Transcript
- 0:06Speaker 1: Hey, we are back. Normally, they shouldn't normal.
- 0:08Speaker 2: It takes for Wendy and gets weird. I'm Mary Katherine
- 0:12Speaker 2: and I'm Carol Marko. It's how are you married, Catherine?
- 0:14Speaker 2: How was your weekend?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Pretty good? I went to the beach for the weekend.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I a little get away in Nice.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Which beach?
- 0:23Speaker 1: I love it?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Yes, back to where you got married.
- 0:26Speaker 1: That's right. And so got a little, I mean very
- 0:29Speaker 1: little son. I'm me, but I pretended like I was
- 0:32Speaker 1: getting sun and had a cocktail and then came back
- 0:35Speaker 1: ready for to do it all again. Yeah, tan, rested
- 0:40Speaker 1: and ready for my next vacation.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I love it. Thanksgiving my favorite holiday. I really love it.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I love the whole thing.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I love the food, I love the thankfulness, I love
- 0:49Speaker 3: the family. I'm all about it. My brother and his
- 0:52Speaker 3: family are visiting. They're here for their year. You know,
- 0:55Speaker 3: I hate the whole switching off years.
- 0:57Speaker 2: But I mean, you gotta do it right, you got to.
- 1:00Speaker 2: You gotta share him.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I'm excited. We're going to North Carolina, so we'll be
- 1:04Speaker 1: out of here in a couple of days.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Love it all right.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Well, before we get to the turkey and the stuffing
- 1:10Speaker 3: and the side dishes Donald Trump and z or Mom
- 1:14Speaker 3: Donnie had a much too warm situation happened at the
- 1:19Speaker 3: Old Office on Friday, and I wasn't sure if we
- 1:22Speaker 3: would still be talking about this for Tuesday's episode, but
- 1:24Speaker 3: it remains kind of the biggest story around.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I don't think anything else is beating it today. Well
- 1:30Speaker 2: let's talk about it.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Let's talk about those two crazy kids and the fun
- 1:33Speaker 3: they had at the Oval Office together.
- 1:35Speaker 1: They had so much fun. So Mom Donnie comes down
- 1:39Speaker 1: to the Oval Office a couple things from his perspective.
- 1:43Speaker 1: From Mom Donnie's, I do think there's a risk of
- 1:45Speaker 1: losing a bunch of cred with his very liberal folks.
- 1:49Speaker 1: But the problem for him is he needs someone to
- 1:51Speaker 1: fund his socialism.
- 1:52Speaker 3: The funding of the socialism is always the hardest part
- 1:54Speaker 3: of the socialism, and like.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Hookl might not do it, So I guess he's coming
- 1:58Speaker 1: down here. She's definitely not. I think mostly the two
- 2:02Speaker 1: of them like the camera more than almost anything else
- 2:06Speaker 1: that was happening that day, and so the both of
- 2:09Speaker 1: them were like, this is great. Everybody's got all eyes
- 2:11Speaker 1: on us. But it occurred to me that Mamdani is
- 2:14Speaker 1: doing what twenty seventeen Democrats should have done hich.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Oh my god. Yeah, just roll up in that Oval office.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Tell him how many votes he got in your district.
- 2:25Speaker 1: How there's so many people who agree with him on stuff,
- 2:28Speaker 1: How you agree with him on stuff? Here's the things
- 2:30Speaker 1: we should do together, And he's like, maybe we should Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 3: I wrote about this at the time, how Democrats were
- 2:38Speaker 3: missing a huge opportunity. Trump is not in doctrinaire Republican.
- 2:43Speaker 3: They could have gotten so much from him, with him
- 2:47Speaker 3: all around, they chose to fight him instead. Actually I
- 2:49Speaker 3: called this the Kim Kardashian rule. She was like, come
- 2:52Speaker 3: to the Oval office, take a bunch of pictures together.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Get what I want. Policy wise, she got, you.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Know, a party for an yes and policy change about
- 3:03Speaker 3: non violent drug non violent offenders in general.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So yeah, it's the first step back, That's what it
- 3:09Speaker 2: was called.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yes, very effective work on her part, right, something people
- 3:13Speaker 1: should have learned from and perhaps Mom Danny is the
- 3:16Speaker 1: guy who did.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 3: I have to admit to a bit of an emotional
- 3:20Speaker 3: rollercoaster ride about this whole thing.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I don't know I first saw it.
- 3:25Speaker 3: I was like, oh no, like really didn't like it,
- 3:28Speaker 3: felt that betrayed by Trump, because listen, if we didn't
- 3:33Speaker 3: we didn't talk about it in advance, but had we
- 3:35Speaker 3: talked about it, I would have said Trump is going
- 3:37Speaker 3: to kill him with kindness.
- 3:38Speaker 2: He's going to be super nice. All of that. I
- 3:41Speaker 2: knew that was going to happen.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I had no illusions that they were going to have
- 3:44Speaker 3: some major clash in the Oval Office.
- 3:46Speaker 2: But I felt, I don't know, like I didn't like.
- 3:51Speaker 3: The line that particularly I didn't like was Donald Trump
- 3:54Speaker 3: saying conservatives are going to be happy about some of
- 3:57Speaker 3: his policies, and I was like, no, we're not very much.
- 4:00Speaker 1: No.
- 4:00Speaker 3: But I have been on a little bit of an
- 4:03Speaker 3: emotional rollercoaster about this, and I have ultimately come out
- 4:07Speaker 3: on There was some really wise.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Things that Trump did.
- 4:10Speaker 3: The joke that he made, well we'll play a clip
- 4:13Speaker 3: in a minute, but I'll just tell you the joke
- 4:15Speaker 3: that everybody was sharing where a reporter asked, Mom, Donnie,
- 4:18Speaker 3: do you still think Trump is a fascist? And Trump
- 4:21Speaker 3: is like, go ahead, say yes, who cares, Like you
- 4:23Speaker 3: know it's fine, and m Donnie's like, yes, he's a fascist.
- 4:27Speaker 3: But then he said it again on the Sunday shows.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I think it was Meet the Press at that point,
- 4:31Speaker 3: it sounded completely defangd he he doesn't think he's a fascist.
- 4:35Speaker 3: He can't even say it anymore because you stood next
- 4:38Speaker 3: to a fascist and told him how people in your
- 4:40Speaker 3: district voted for him and share work them together. Come on,
- 4:44Speaker 3: if you think he's a fascist, you're not doing that.
- 4:46Speaker 3: So Trump really did get him in that way. And
- 4:50Speaker 3: I think he doesn't have the kind of nails that
- 4:53Speaker 3: he had going into that meeting.
- 4:55Speaker 2: And that's that's a good thing.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Again, like I said, I think both of their prayer,
- 5:00Speaker 1: he was perhaps being on camera and enjoying themselves. That's
- 5:04Speaker 1: number one. Number two, I do think because Trump doesn't
- 5:08Speaker 1: Trump loves New York City. He is not joking around
- 5:10Speaker 1: when he says I want him to succeed.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Now.
- 5:14Speaker 1: He's also not an ideologue, nor is he that interested
- 5:17Speaker 1: in like economic policy outside of terrorists. So he's not
- 5:20Speaker 1: I don't think he's spent a ton of time thinking
- 5:22Speaker 1: about what those policies will look like. And he's agreeing
- 5:26Speaker 1: that the buses are very slow. It's like, great, but
- 5:28Speaker 1: they're not going to be free and fast. That's not
- 5:30Speaker 1: gonna happens, sir. If they're free, sure, you know, but
- 5:33Speaker 1: I think like both of these people understand the appeal
- 5:37Speaker 1: a they're good on camera, be they're good at appealing
- 5:39Speaker 1: to populism. Trump a right version, Mamdannie a left version.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So he's they're kind of right that they have things
- 5:47Speaker 1: to agree on and yours. And my complaint about Trump
- 5:49Speaker 1: has always been that he's creeping too far left for
- 5:53Speaker 1: us right, and so I think that's a lot of
- 5:55Speaker 1: what you saw. What I did not like is that
- 5:57Speaker 1: Trump defanged arguments against Mam Donnie by plenty of other
- 6:02Speaker 1: people who could correctly, morally and usefully politically run against
- 6:08Speaker 1: this force in New York City at least. Yeah, but Trump,
- 6:13Speaker 1: That's not Trump's number one priority. Phou show. I think
- 6:17Speaker 1: the thing about Trump is if he likes you, he
- 6:19Speaker 1: likes you. Yeah, And I think this guy came in
- 6:22Speaker 1: and he liked him, and he emphasized the right things.
- 6:24Speaker 1: You could tell mom Donnie had thought about, like what
- 6:26Speaker 1: are the things he likes to hear? Because he kept
- 6:28Speaker 1: emphasizing people who had voted for him and Trump, the
- 6:32Speaker 1: things that Trump and he both want to give to people.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And I did I especially did not love Trump's credulousness
- 6:40Speaker 1: on well he said he doesn't want any crime. It's like, okay, great, same,
- 6:45Speaker 1: how how's that gonna work?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Right? Yeah, So I'm sure they have crossover voters.
- 6:51Speaker 3: But if you look at the New York City voting map,
- 6:54Speaker 3: the ange Cuomo areas, the Angeclomo one were the areas
- 6:58Speaker 3: that went for Donald Trump. So while there is some
- 7:01Speaker 3: crossover in general, there isn't.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Also, I don't want to. I don't want to right
- 7:06Speaker 1: populism and left populism. A while that sounds terrible to me,
- 7:09Speaker 1: This is awful, awful, bad economics for everyone.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Totally. Let's play this clip and then get into that.
- 7:16Speaker 2: He's got views and out there, but who knows he's
- 7:19Speaker 2: going to change.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Also, we all change.
- 7:21Speaker 2: I change a lot.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I think he is going to surprise some conservative people. Actually,
- 7:26Speaker 3: President trumpa's desk, and I've.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Been called much worse than a desk bud.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So it's it's not that insulting.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I expect to be helping him, not hurting him. A
- 7:36Speaker 3: big help because I want New York City to be great.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Do you think you're sitting next to a johnstraight now
- 7:42Speaker 3: in the overwhelper?
- 7:43Speaker 1: No?
- 7:43Speaker 3: I know you say things sometimes in a campaign.
- 7:45Speaker 2: I met with a man who's a very rational person.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Are you affirming that you think Trump's a fascist?
- 7:51Speaker 2: I've spoken about that's okay, you can just say, okay,
- 7:55Speaker 2: it's easier.
- 7:57Speaker 1: It's easier than explaining a pedal. But the pat that
- 8:03Speaker 1: part was very funny.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. It was funny. I mean, look, Donald
- 8:08Speaker 2: Trump has a very good sense of humor. Our concerns
- 8:11Speaker 2: remain that he drifts leftboard when left his own devices.
- 8:16Speaker 2: But you're right, he loves New York. He wants New
- 8:19Speaker 2: York to succeed.
- 8:20Speaker 3: I don't think he cares very much about it succeeding
- 8:24Speaker 3: in a conservative policy way, which you know, you and
- 8:27Speaker 3: I would care more about. But yeah, the left and
- 8:30Speaker 3: right populism thing is a real big issue for people
- 8:34Speaker 3: who are not into that sort of thing. We'll talk
- 8:37Speaker 3: about in the next segment about Twitter x now putting
- 8:43Speaker 3: people's location on their bios and what we found in
- 8:47Speaker 3: the last few days again, we'll get into the next segment.
- 8:49Speaker 3: But the groeper class that pushes the left and right
- 8:53Speaker 3: populism together. I've seen so many tweets in the last
- 8:56Speaker 3: few days since the moum Donnie thing, like we need
- 8:58Speaker 3: we need to.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Have social conservativism and liberal economics, and it's like, no,
- 9:03Speaker 2: we don't. We definitely don't.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Well, and I think he also probably appealed it sounded
- 9:09Speaker 1: like behind closed doors that Mom Donnie was talking a
- 9:12Speaker 1: lot about building stuff. Again, exactly what Trump wants to hear,
- 9:17Speaker 1: but not what you heard from Mom Donnie on the
- 9:20Speaker 1: campaign trail, and Trump pointed that out. He's like, I
- 9:23Speaker 1: didn't really hear much of that when he was running,
- 9:26Speaker 1: but you know, it's a campaign. But now he's telling
- 9:28Speaker 1: me he wants to build stuff. Okay, I'll believe that
- 9:30Speaker 1: when I see it. But that was part of the
- 9:32Speaker 1: message that appealed to Donald Trump, which then makes him
- 9:35Speaker 1: friendly to you in the room, which means when you're
- 9:37Speaker 1: asked about genocide and you affirm that you believe the
- 9:41Speaker 1: Israeli government is committing it, you know, to push back
- 9:44Speaker 1: on you.
- 9:44Speaker 2: That's right.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I would really like to see because he knows
- 9:47Speaker 1: better than that.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Yeah right, yes, taking me back to Friday where I
- 9:51Speaker 3: was like all angry and then had the weekend to
- 9:53Speaker 3: like digest. Yeah, you're absolutely right. Trump loves to be loved.
- 9:58Speaker 3: He loves and people say no thanks to him. It
- 10:01Speaker 3: is an achilles heel. I always worried about this, and
- 10:04Speaker 3: we saw it in action here.
- 10:06Speaker 1: We'll see where at least Stephonic takes it from here,
- 10:08Speaker 1: because she again is running against Kathy Hochel for governor
- 10:11Speaker 1: of New York and the idea is to use him
- 10:13Speaker 1: as a foil. But if Donald Trump is saying I'd
- 10:16Speaker 1: have no problem living in New York under Mom Donny,
- 10:18Speaker 1: that's gonna be a little bit of an issue.
- 10:19Speaker 2: But he totally will you know what I mean?
- 10:21Speaker 3: Even as a billionaire, even as you know, among the
- 10:25Speaker 3: richest people living in New York, you still as soon
- 10:28Speaker 3: as you leave your golden palace, you have homelessness on
- 10:33Speaker 3: the street, you have disarray in the city. Donald Trump's
- 10:37Speaker 3: not going back to that. I'll put my five bucks
- 10:39Speaker 3: on it right now. I'm getting too gambling. In the
- 10:41Speaker 3: last segment five bucks, Donald Trump does not go back
- 10:44Speaker 3: to New York after his presidency.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Also, Trump reserves the right to change his mind about
- 10:49Speaker 1: everything he said a beating tomorrow. Yeah, and he probably
- 10:53Speaker 1: will in like a several days.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Yeah. I think at least Devonic should still run against
- 10:57Speaker 3: creeping socialism and Kathy Hockel's embrace of that, and I
- 11:01Speaker 3: wish her the best we'll be right back with more
- 11:04Speaker 3: on normally and where is your favorite X account from Malaysia, Tunisia, Turkey,
- 11:11Speaker 3: we'll find out. We are back on normally where X
- 11:18Speaker 3: introduced a very popular new feature where you can click
- 11:23Speaker 3: on somebody's profile and see where they signed up for
- 11:27Speaker 3: X and where they are based. Basically where what app
- 11:31Speaker 3: store they use to log on. So maybe you were
- 11:34Speaker 3: on vacation and decided to join Twitter in like you know,
- 11:37Speaker 3: twenty fifteen, and you joined from Aruba, but then your
- 11:41Speaker 3: app store still is US. So a lot of people
- 11:45Speaker 3: have been exposed because of this, and there's a lot
- 11:48Speaker 3: of hoopla around it. I think it's an amazing policy.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I actually think you should not have to click through.
- 11:54Speaker 3: I think it should be right on the profile so
- 11:55Speaker 3: you see where the people are from and what their
- 11:58Speaker 3: bias is.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I think it's very important.
- 12:01Speaker 3: And a lot of a lot of accounts have been
- 12:03Speaker 3: exposed in the last few days, including one of my
- 12:05Speaker 3: personal favorites, because it does hit the real world, not
- 12:08Speaker 3: just in our ex world. Palestinian journalist allegedly that was
- 12:13Speaker 3: writing for the BBC turns out doesn't live in Gaza
- 12:17Speaker 3: at all, lives in Turkey, so yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Yeah, this is an interesting thing because it is by
- 12:24Speaker 1: its very nature extremely online, right, But there was the
- 12:28Speaker 1: background is that was there was always this suspicion that
- 12:31Speaker 1: we were being messed with by a lot of accounts
- 12:34Speaker 1: that pose as true patriotic America First accounts or tint
- 12:39Speaker 1: dwelling Gaza residents who are happily regurgitated by the BBC
- 12:44Speaker 1: and others that weren't misrepresenting themselves. And we've found that
- 12:49Speaker 1: out on a case by case basis at times. But
- 12:51Speaker 1: I believe and I don't think I'm incorrect about this,
- 12:53Speaker 1: but somebody, Katie Pavlich, suggested this change on Twitter and
- 12:58Speaker 1: Elon Musk took it up and then show these things,
- 13:02Speaker 1: so well done her. And there is a fun sort
- 13:04Speaker 1: of flattening of the earth that happens on next where
- 13:07Speaker 1: you can just say like, hey, elin you should try this.
- 13:09Speaker 1: So transparency is very helpful because I don't mind if
- 13:13Speaker 1: you're from another country, and America is a superpower. We
- 13:17Speaker 1: have a lot of influence. You have thoughts, Fine, I'm
- 13:19Speaker 1: not gonna take your thoughts with the same weight that
- 13:21Speaker 1: I would other people's, but don't lie to me about
- 13:25Speaker 1: where you are and what you're in and so I
- 13:27Speaker 1: think the transparency is very helpful. And like we always
- 13:31Speaker 1: talk about, these very online things become part of the discourse,
- 13:34Speaker 1: which then is broadcast on media and then sort of
- 13:38Speaker 1: trickles down to become this idea of what our country is.
- 13:42Speaker 1: And if our country is not actually as populated or
- 13:45Speaker 1: animated by groidbers, I would like to know that. I
- 13:48Speaker 1: want to know if they're real.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it, That's what it is.
- 13:52Speaker 3: It's like, is what we're seeing online something that's actually
- 13:56Speaker 3: happening or is it manufactured outrage? And I think that
- 14:00Speaker 3: a lot of what we've seen in the last few
- 14:02Speaker 3: days turns out that many of these accounts are in
- 14:06Speaker 3: other countries and they're not actually the farm girl in
- 14:09Speaker 3: Iowa baking pies for her husband and being a good
- 14:13Speaker 3: trad wife and commenting on how the Jews are taking
- 14:15Speaker 3: everything over. It turns out that's just a dude living
- 14:18Speaker 3: in like Morocco and he has some thoughts.
- 14:22Speaker 2: But I'm with you.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Like the thing is, if you're honest, it doesn't matter right,
- 14:26Speaker 3: put it right in your bio Moroccan man interested in
- 14:30Speaker 3: American politics, and then put whatever you want and tweet
- 14:33Speaker 3: whatever you want and.
- 14:34Speaker 2: See if it becomes popular.
- 14:35Speaker 3: It still may, but this lie that you're American and
- 14:40Speaker 3: that you have as much of a stake in it
- 14:42Speaker 3: as the rest of us do. It's really appalling, and
- 14:46Speaker 3: I'm so glad it's being exposed well.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And there's the larger issue of the attention economy and
- 14:51Speaker 1: the fact that monetization of X, although I think admirable
- 14:55Speaker 1: in some ways, incentivizes both rage baiting people sure crazy
- 15:01Speaker 1: things that you don't actually believe, and incentivizes people in
- 15:04Speaker 1: countries that are not as prosperous as ours to log
- 15:08Speaker 1: on and pretend to be Annie in Iowa and put
- 15:13Speaker 1: some rage bait out there and make a couple hundred
- 15:15Speaker 1: bucks a month, which is quite good money and it's
- 15:18Speaker 1: not a chicken scratch anywhere, but it's much better money
- 15:21Speaker 1: in smaller countries with smaller economies, and so you sort
- 15:24Speaker 1: of incentivize that situation. That being said, there are plenty
- 15:28Speaker 1: of Americans who have these detestable views in many places.
- 15:32Speaker 1: In many cases, I do think perhaps that these points
- 15:37Speaker 1: of view are being favored and amplified in a way
- 15:41Speaker 1: that distorts how many of these people there actually are.
- 15:45Speaker 1: And then that leads people to think you and I
- 15:48Speaker 1: don't do it, but like to think that to talk
- 15:50Speaker 1: to your audience, you must adopt these views because your
- 15:53Speaker 1: audience is animated by these views. But how animated actually
- 15:57Speaker 1: are they? Is it real? Is it not? And I
- 15:59Speaker 1: think that's what we're getting a little closer to understanding, right.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's absolutely right.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Other you know, changes that i'd love to see on
- 16:08Speaker 3: X is just I guess to keep up with that.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Does the person still you know, check in from wherever
- 16:15Speaker 3: people are?
- 16:16Speaker 2: They do move they you know, all of that does happen.
- 16:19Speaker 3: But if you're an American and who moved to Russia
- 16:21Speaker 3: because you like their system better, I kind of want
- 16:23Speaker 3: that information in your bio.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that's important information.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Many other changes you want to see X make. The
- 16:30Speaker 3: edit button needs improvement, by the way, Elon, if you're listening,
- 16:33Speaker 3: I can never edit my tweets.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Well, so my edit button mostly works. I would say
- 16:38Speaker 1: that I know you're a blocker. I'm a muter and
- 16:41Speaker 1: the mute doesn't work properly.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Blocking also doesn't work properly. Yeah, I saw blocking this weekend. Actually,
- 16:49Speaker 3: I had I unblocked somebody because I wanted to follow
- 16:52Speaker 3: along with their drama.
- 16:53Speaker 2: But when you block someone, you can't see their tweets?
- 16:56Speaker 2: Like why not?
- 16:58Speaker 3: Like, if they block me, I can't see their tweets,
- 17:01Speaker 3: that's fine. But if I block them, I can't see
- 17:03Speaker 3: their tweets. But what if I want to see what
- 17:05Speaker 3: they're what their little fight is about, which I did.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Yeah, well, the drama shall continue, but I do think
- 17:13Speaker 1: we have a better handle on parsing who the Americans
- 17:16Speaker 1: are in the drama now?
- 17:18Speaker 2: Which is nice America first? You know?
- 17:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean we got to run our elections here,
- 17:22Speaker 1: so I'd like to know which ones are real.
- 17:25Speaker 2: We'll be right back with more on normally and gambling
- 17:29Speaker 2: on Thanksgiving? Should you do it?
- 17:34Speaker 1: All? Right? We are back on normally with some festive
- 17:38Speaker 1: ad making for Thanksgiving, some ideas for things you could
- 17:42Speaker 1: do with your family. This is FanDuel. Let's just play
- 17:45Speaker 1: the ad and then we'll talk about it.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Okay, what passion leg?
- 17:48Speaker 2: What's past the leg? It's a party you built with
- 17:50Speaker 2: your friends. Leg passed it on, not him one bad.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Wait, why don't you passed the leg yet?
- 17:58Speaker 2: You can't rush the leg? Dad working on it. Everybody
- 18:07Speaker 2: in the leg has been passed off. Thanksgiving? Bet together
- 18:10Speaker 2: like never before, get a profit booth, build a group parlay.
- 18:17Speaker 2: I hate it. I hate it so much. And you
- 18:20Speaker 2: know I'm I'm very squishy on gambling. I'm a poker player.
- 18:24Speaker 2: It is a game of skill, but.
- 18:25Speaker 3: It has a gambling component that is necessary to the game.
- 18:28Speaker 3: I hate this so much. It's like just infuriated me.
- 18:32Speaker 3: If you if you didn't see the ad at the end,
- 18:34Speaker 3: the family sitting around on their phones at Thanksgiving dinner
- 18:38Speaker 3: placing bets. It's awful. If you don't know what a
- 18:41Speaker 3: parlay is. It's basically the probability of hitting some random
- 18:45Speaker 3: thing in a game. And if a bunch of people
- 18:47Speaker 3: are placing parlays which are already extremely unlikely to ever hit,
- 18:52Speaker 3: it's it's just the lowest odds of anything. So there's
- 18:55Speaker 3: not only saying go gamble, encourage your family to do it, but.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Place the worst possible bets that you can.
- 19:03Speaker 1: And do it while sitting at your Thanksgiving table, and
- 19:05Speaker 1: do it with all of your family.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I feel like I'm a bit of a squish on
- 19:11Speaker 1: the gambling thing as well, because I don't really have
- 19:13Speaker 1: a dog in this fight. I don't gamble. It's just
- 19:16Speaker 1: never been interesting to me, But it is a thing
- 19:19Speaker 1: that I'm willing to listen to both sides on because
- 19:21Speaker 1: my libertarian side is like, okay, well let me listen.
- 19:23Speaker 1: If you're an adult, you're not hurting anybody else. But
- 19:27Speaker 1: I can see well enough to know that like this
- 19:30Speaker 1: probably has some real downstream bad effects. And the part
- 19:34Speaker 1: that's changed over the years since you and I have
- 19:37Speaker 1: been paying attention to this is that you can just
- 19:39Speaker 1: do it from your phone for everything, anytime, anywhere. And
- 19:43Speaker 1: there used to just be a lot more effort involved
- 19:45Speaker 1: in going to a place to do the thing that's
- 19:49Speaker 1: like maybe not the best use of your time and money,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and now you're just like, let me do it here
- 19:54Speaker 1: with my family at Thanksgiving dinner.
- 19:56Speaker 3: That seems bad, awful, and PoCA remains illegal online in
- 20:02Speaker 3: most places, so it just it makes no sense to me.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I will say that my brother and his family are
- 20:07Speaker 3: visiting for Thanksgiving, and I had told my brother that
- 20:10Speaker 3: Florida recently got open carry. You're now allowed to open
- 20:14Speaker 3: carry your guns. So he's like, so let me get
- 20:17Speaker 3: this straight. He lands yesterday, He's like, you can go
- 20:19Speaker 3: to like a seven eleven in sweatpants with two guns
- 20:21Speaker 3: in your whole store exposed. But I can't place a
- 20:24Speaker 3: bed online because you actually can't Florida.
- 20:27Speaker 2: So yeah, no gambling for Thanksgiving, a little brother.
- 20:31Speaker 1: We are governed by our community standards, you know. That's
- 20:34Speaker 1: that's the way it works. And he's in Florida.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I do think that there are dark stories underneath a
- 20:40Speaker 1: lot of this online betting and sort of the real
- 20:42Speaker 1: mainstreaming of it over the past five years. And this one,
- 20:46Speaker 1: like you said, seems un wise, not a great use
- 20:49Speaker 1: of your time on Thanksgiving, And it's like, do we
- 20:51Speaker 1: want to treat that like wordle like exactly right. It's
- 20:54Speaker 1: sort of treated as if like, oh, we're just doing
- 20:57Speaker 1: a game together as fam and I don't know, just
- 21:01Speaker 1: sit down and play par cheesy or something.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Totally. Do you have a wordle chat.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I don't have a world chat, but I know other people.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not in touch with the people on
- 21:11Speaker 1: these things, but they.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Do have a wordal chat.
- 21:15Speaker 3: It's very, very, very active every single day.
- 21:19Speaker 1: So that's good. You're learning new things. Yeah, it's doing
- 21:22Speaker 1: the vocabulary.
- 21:24Speaker 3: Yeah, vocabulary is better than betting on people you don't
- 21:27Speaker 3: know playing a sport, and that you have no, you
- 21:30Speaker 3: have no possibility of affecting.
- 21:32Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Like where I always say like poker is different, and
- 21:35Speaker 3: it is different than even table games and casinos. You're
- 21:39Speaker 3: playing against the house, and poker you're playing against other
- 21:41Speaker 3: people and you're playing with your own skills.
- 21:43Speaker 2: So if poker is illegal.
- 21:44Speaker 3: I don't understand how betting on sports is legal. I'll
- 21:47Speaker 3: just you know, I'll be the bummer and say that
- 21:49Speaker 3: it shouldn't be quick.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Exit question before we go? What dish are you most
- 21:54Speaker 1: looking forward to?
- 21:55Speaker 3: Nobody agrees with me on this. It's the green beans.
- 21:58Speaker 3: It's the green beans.
- 21:59Speaker 2: They're so good. I make one with a cornflake topping.
- 22:04Speaker 3: And it is delicious and it's next to me because
- 22:07Speaker 3: nobody else eats it, and I love it.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I love We're the same, but I love a green
- 22:11Speaker 1: bean carast. Well, I am going to shout out a
- 22:13Speaker 1: different cast role that I only have on Thanksgiving. Well,
- 22:16Speaker 1: my dad makes a corn bread stuffing that is very
- 22:18Speaker 1: special for Thanksgiving too. It's very arduous and we only
- 22:21Speaker 1: do it once a year. But there is a potato
- 22:24Speaker 1: cast role in the South that's just like potatoes, cheese,
- 22:28Speaker 1: sour cream, male like all the things that are fat,
- 22:31Speaker 1: and then you put cheese on top and make that crispy,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and then you put the corn flakes on top with
- 22:39Speaker 1: the with the butter on top, and it is so
- 22:41Speaker 1: decadent and ridiculous, and I only eat it once a.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Year, and I love all Right, ship me that recipe.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Let's do it so we can. We can.
- 22:48Speaker 1: We can trade off our our green beans and our
- 22:50Speaker 1: potato casroles. Care we go.
- 22:53Speaker 3: Well, I hope you're having a very happy Thanksgiving with
- 22:56Speaker 3: your families this week.
- 22:57Speaker 2: We will be back with more normally on Tuesday. We're
- 23:00Speaker 2: gonna have a rerun on Thursday. We wish you all
- 23:04Speaker 2: the best. Have a happy and safe and healthy Thanksgiving.
- 23:09Speaker 1: M
