- 0:02some of my clients journeys of getting into flight and how they
- 0:05utilize coaching to help them create success of getting hired
- 0:08with less confusion and more ease.
- 0:10Make your dream a reality of getting into flight.
- 0:12Listen in as you hear some of the stories of the people
- 0:14getting there and come join the flight prep group.
- 0:16Hey guys, welcome to this Instagram live.
- 0:19I wanted to do something a little bit different for you
- 0:23guys as I'm recording this week's podcast episode.
- 0:27This week's podcast episode, I am titling the three things I
- 0:31wish I knew when I was starting to get to flight.
- 0:34I was thinking this week as I was thinking about the theme for
- 0:38the podcast episode, what would be something that I wish that I
- 0:43could tell my pre flight nurse self and all the students that
- 0:48I'm currently working with and all the ones that want to get
- 0:50into flight that are going to help you create momentum to get
- 0:54there. Three things that I wish I would
- 0:56have known and someone would have told me while I was trying
- 1:00to get into flight nursing. So I'm going to talk about what
- 1:04those three things are today on this live and this is going to
- 1:08also drop as a episode this week, but I thought it would be
- 1:11fun to do both of these simultaneously.
- 1:14So for those of you guys who are joining me who I haven't met
- 1:16before, my name's Janessa. I'm a flight nurse and flight
- 1:19paramedic coach. I run an entire program that
- 1:22helps nurses and medics that want to get into flight get
- 1:26there. I take you through a five step
- 1:28process that I've created that has helped people get on track
- 1:31and get hired in flight in a shorter amount of time.
- 1:33In fact, I've been running it the last almost four years now,
- 1:36and I'm helping people cut their time virtually in half of
- 1:39getting into flight. This is the mentorship, the
- 1:42program, the things that I wish someone would have told me while
- 1:47I was trying to get into flight. And so I want to just share a
- 1:51couple of those things with you guys today and the three
- 1:53pertinent things that that I wish I would have known and that
- 1:57I share with my students today and the people inside of my
- 1:59program. And for those of you guys who
- 2:03want to get into flight, I really just want to share this
- 2:06wisdom with you guys as well. So I want to start out by saying
- 2:10if flight has been on your mind and you felt unsure, under
- 2:16qualified or have thoughts or feelings of I don't, I don't
- 2:21know if I'm enough. I don't know if I have the
- 2:23confidence. I don't know if I have the time
- 2:25and experience. I don't know if I'll ever feel
- 2:27like I have enough. And for those of you guys who
- 2:30think, oh, I have to be 100% confident before getting there,
- 2:33I want you to know you're not alone.
- 2:37I want to also let you know that those same thoughts do not go
- 2:40away once you get hired. Those are thoughts and things
- 2:43that I still continue to help my flight nurses and flight medics
- 2:47work through because imposter syndrome is something that is
- 2:50always gonna be there with you. Doubt is something that is
- 2:52always gonna be there with you. That's why the most common
- 2:55mistake that I see people make is waiting to feel 100%
- 2:59confident before going to this goal.
- 3:01And I am really going to show you today and talk to you today
- 3:06a little bit about starting to take actions and what actions to
- 3:10start taking towards this goal right now that are going to move
- 3:12you forward. I want to start out by
- 3:15ingraining and telling you guys that you belong here.
- 3:18If you know that you want flight nursing or flight paramedicine,
- 3:22you belong in this career. And I just wish that someone
- 3:27would have told me that earlier on, that you can believe in this
- 3:31goal before you've even done it, that you can start to really
- 3:35work towards it and feel like it's obtainable before you do
- 3:39it. You can have the confidence and
- 3:41start to grow the confidence of getting to this goal before
- 3:44obtaining it. And I just want to offer you
- 3:47like if you've had this thought, I knew that I wanted to get into
- 3:50flight as soon as nursing school.
- 3:52And if flight nursing or flight paramedicine has been the thing
- 3:56that you have wanted to create ever since you started your
- 3:59nursing journey or your EMT or medic journey, know that really
- 4:05that thought was created for you for a reason and you are meant
- 4:08to be doing this job. So I just want to offer you a
- 4:10couple thoughts before we get started and I share with you the
- 4:13three things that I wish someone would have told me.
- 4:16One is you belong here, you are enough and flight companies are
- 4:21looking for who you are, what you value and the team player
- 4:24you are. They really are not looking for
- 4:27time and experience. And I'm going to touch on that a
- 4:29little bit today throughout this episode and throughout this this
- 4:33training with you guys. So the first thing that I wanted
- 4:38to share with you guys was a little bit about my story.
- 4:40It took me 4 years of working medical surgical ICU before I
- 4:44decided to apply. And for most like companies in
- 4:48the United States, it's only three years, either ICU or ER
- 4:52experience. Now it does not matter if it's
- 4:54rural bed level, on what type of specialty, ERICU, it doesn't
- 4:59matter. And they don't want both.
- 5:01And I'm going to talk about that a little bit in this life as
- 5:04well. But it took me 4 years of
- 5:07working ICU before applying. And let me tell you why it took
- 5:12me an additional year and why I didn't get in it at the three
- 5:16years. And it was only because I didn't
- 5:20have this belief in myself, I thought I had to be 100%
- 5:25confident about this goal. I thought that I needed to make
- 5:28myself look better. And that extra time that it
- 5:31really took me to get on board with it was time that I was
- 5:34taking away from eventually getting into flight.
- 5:37And so I just want to offer you earlier on to start building
- 5:41that belief for yourself. That's really what we're doing
- 5:43inside of my program is starting to build the belief and then
- 5:47also starting to learn how to take that imposter syndrome and
- 5:51that doubt with you while working towards this.
- 5:54The only difference between people making it and the ones
- 5:56who don't are the ones who map out their plan and the ones who
- 5:59are starting to learn how to take imposter syndrome and out
- 6:03with them and still continue to take action.
- 6:06Because once you get into flights, your imposter syndrome
- 6:10and your doubt will be 10X. And it doesn't mean you have to
- 6:13be 100% confident. It just means you have to grow
- 6:15the capacity to become the person who can have doubt and
- 6:18still take action anyway. Who can have doubt and still run
- 6:22the mission and the call. And so I'm really gonna teach
- 6:24you how to start building that belief for yourself.
- 6:27The other thing that was a major factor for me to really push
- 6:30play and eventually go for it after four years of working ICU
- 6:34was I had a major death in my family.
- 6:36My brother died all of a sudden from an addiction.
- 6:40And I realized like life was so short to be just wondering, am I
- 6:46good enough? And wondering, do I want to keep
- 6:49working towards this goal or am I going to just go for it
- 6:52eventually? And I could just feel this pull
- 6:55of like, this is my time, this is when I need to seize the day,
- 6:59this is when I need to just go for it.
- 7:01And that major life event was, was what really changed it for
- 7:06me to really just take the next step and go.
- 7:09And one thing that I want to offer you guys with this is that
- 7:14a lot of you guys think that you need to have your family on
- 7:17board. You're, and this might be a
- 7:19little bit triggering for some of you guys who are going to
- 7:21hear this, but a lot of you guys have this thought.
- 7:23I have to have my family on board.
- 7:25I have to have my best friends on board.
- 7:26I have to have my spouse on board.
- 7:28I have to have my kids on board. And I want to offer you, you are
- 7:33the one who is going for this goal.
- 7:35You are the one who has to be on board.
- 7:38When I wanted to go for this goal, so I didn't 100% have my
- 7:41husband on board, my kids on board, my family.
- 7:45I remember my parents didn't want me to do it or my best
- 7:48friends that I worked with. And that was the first time that
- 7:52I realized I have to hold the belief for them.
- 7:56And there is a lot of courage that is required with that
- 8:01because as you level up, as you continue to grow in these ways,
- 8:06both in your nursing career and personally, the people that you
- 8:12hope will go with you don't always go with you.
- 8:15And I think some of you guys will hold you back is the belief
- 8:18that everybody needs to be in your corner before you go for
- 8:22it. But I just want to offer you,
- 8:24you have to be in your corner. You have to hold the belief, you
- 8:27have to believe it for everybody else because you're the one
- 8:31doing it, you're the one going through it, you're the one
- 8:35striving for it. And so I, I wanted to share that
- 8:39with you guys that not everybody was on board in my life that I
- 8:43wanted to be on board with me and going for this goal.
- 8:45And that was OK. And so hold the belief for
- 8:49yourself and for everyone else. OK, so let's start in.
- 8:53These are the three things that I wish someone would have told
- 8:56me as I was getting into flight. Number one, start mapping out
- 9:00your plan as soon as you know you want flight.
- 9:03I get asked the most when should I start working towards this
- 9:07goal? I say as soon as you want it.
- 9:08So if you know you want it in nursing school, if you know you
- 9:10want it pre nursing school, that's when you want to start
- 9:13mapping out your plan. I created a road map where there
- 9:16are things that you want to be working on every step of the
- 9:19way, no matter where you're starting.
- 9:21And so knowing what your plan is is so important because if
- 9:25you're anything like me and you're a doer and you make a
- 9:27like to make a long list of things to do, you're going to
- 9:30want to hustle and overwork to get there.
- 9:32And having a plan will keep you on track and not hustle and
- 9:37overwork. It's going to keep your To Do
- 9:39List very short. So you know what it is that you
- 9:42need to be working towards every month, every year leading up to
- 9:46this goal and what things that you want to take out.
- 9:49Because as you're getting to this big goal, this doesn't mean
- 9:52you let it take over your life. This means you live your life
- 9:55and you work towards the school at the same time.
- 9:57So having a mapped out plan is really important because it's
- 10:00going to prevent you as a doer for doing a bunch of different
- 10:03things and hustling and overworking.
- 10:06It will also help you cut out the fluff.
- 10:09A major thing that I did and I see a lot of people do is chase
- 10:13a lot of departments and chase a lot of time and experience.
- 10:16And this will help you not do that and stay on track because
- 10:20most flight companies do not require certification anymore.
- 10:23So you don't even need your CN or CCRN.
- 10:26People even ask me should I get my CFRN?
- 10:28I say always wait because a flight company is going to pay
- 10:32for your CFRN and they're going to pay for your study materials.
- 10:35I'm going to go over like time and experience next and the next
- 10:37lesson that I wish I knew. But mapping out your plan and
- 10:41doing it as soon as you want flight is imperative.
- 10:44It's about having a plan. It's not about having time and
- 10:47experience. So you want to know every step
- 10:49of the way what you're working on so that you can stay on track
- 10:52and not hustle and not overwork. OK #2 The second thing that I
- 10:57wish someone would have told me as I was trying to get to flight
- 11:00is focus on making connections, doing ride alongs, and
- 11:05leadership within the department that you're working.
- 11:09People think that it's all about time and experience and building
- 11:12your resume to get to flight. Flight companies are not looking
- 11:15for time and experience. There is a reason why flight
- 11:18companies only require three years of ER or ICU time.
- 11:22Now the reason why focusing on ride alongs and making
- 11:25connections is so important is because you want to do this as
- 11:28soon as you want flight. You want to start doing ride
- 11:30alongs as soon as you're in nursing school.
- 11:33I actually recommend and I teach the people inside my program to
- 11:35be doing 6 to 8 ride alongs a year.
- 11:38And the reason one why this is so important is because getting
- 11:41into flight is all about making connections.
- 11:43So as soon as you do ride alongs and you're making connections
- 11:46with flight companies, they know, hey, Janessa wants flight
- 11:49nursing. She's going to be there in three
- 11:50years. She's we need to start focusing
- 11:53on her. And every time she does a ride
- 11:54along with her, we're going to start thinking about her being
- 11:56on our team. And so This is why ride alongs
- 11:59are so important. Yeah, you need the three years
- 12:01of ERICU, but you want to be doing these ride alongs and
- 12:04making connections ongoing with multiple flight companies and
- 12:08dating multiple flight companies.
- 12:09Meaning you want to be doing as many ride alongs and making
- 12:13connections with flight companies multiple times, even
- 12:15with the same ones as you can. Because this is eventually
- 12:18what's going to get you an interview and this is what's
- 12:20going to get you a seat at the table.
- 12:22And so if you're waiting to do ride alongs and make
- 12:25connections, so you hit the three-year mark, that is too
- 12:28late. I'm seeing flight companies now
- 12:30interview people 18 months to two years in advance.
- 12:34Meaning if they like you, they're going to start
- 12:38interviewing you a year and a half to two years prior to when
- 12:41you can get hired or prior to when they're hiring people.
- 12:44They're creating rosters of people.
- 12:46And so this is for people who know that they want flight.
- 12:49You need to be starting to do these ride alongs and making
- 12:52connections early on from the time that you know you want
- 12:54flight. The second part of this is
- 12:57building leadership in ER or ICU.
- 13:00So a common question that I get is, is ER better or is ICU
- 13:04better to flight? And I tell people, steer
- 13:07yourself towards ER or ICU depending on which one you're
- 13:12more more interested in. One is not better than the
- 13:15other. And it also does not matter if
- 13:18you work a rural bed ERICU or a level 1 ERICU.
- 13:22Flight companies are looking for everything in between and not
- 13:26just level 1. The most common mistake that I
- 13:28see people make is bouncing around from department to
- 13:30department or chasing level 1 experience.
- 13:33That's the worst thing that you can do.
- 13:35Flight companies are not wanting people who are bouncing around,
- 13:37they're wanting people who are most likely going to stay in one
- 13:40department. The reason for this is because
- 13:43they are really looking at leadership qualities where
- 13:47you've gone above and beyond your staff position.
- 13:49What committees have you been in?
- 13:51What fill in leadership have you done?
- 13:53Fill in chart, fill in RT? What trainings have you helped
- 13:57roll out? Have you been a super user for
- 13:59anything? These are the candidates that
- 14:01they're looking for and so you don't want to focus on time and
- 14:05experience. You want to stay in one
- 14:06department, grow your leadership qualities and do as many ride
- 14:10alongs and making connections as you can.
- 14:12I teach you exactly how to do this inside the Flight Prep
- 14:16Academy. OK #3 The third thing I wish
- 14:21someone would have told me as I was trying to get to flight.
- 14:24Get a mentor, get a coach, get support.
- 14:28The reason why I think that this I, I've created so much success
- 14:32in my nursing career is I've always had a mentor of, of
- 14:36someone of where I wanted to be. So when I was in nursing school,
- 14:40I got a mentor of a nurse, a critical care nurse.
- 14:42When I became an ICU nurse, I got a mentor of someone who's a
- 14:45critical care nurse for 15 years.
- 14:47When I became a flight nurse, I, I got a mentor of someone who
- 14:50was a flight nurse. And so mentorship support is
- 14:53really important to level up. There's a couple reasons for
- 14:57this. One, they're not going to let
- 14:59you go out alone. I think it's really important to
- 15:01have someone who understands what you're going through that
- 15:04you can vent to and that will also point out your crap.
- 15:08That person that can be like, no, like this is some critical
- 15:12feedback that I want to give you.
- 15:13And they know what you're feeling, where you've came from,
- 15:18they know where you're going, what obstacles that you might
- 15:21face. And they're also helping you
- 15:23face prevent yourself from making the same common mistakes
- 15:27that a lot of people make. And so as your coach and as a
- 15:32flight coach specifically, I know the common mistakes people
- 15:36are making and I don't want you to get stuck making the same
- 15:39ones. These are the mistakes that I
- 15:41see people pull back, quit ahead of time and not get to flight.
- 15:45So that's why I think this third lesson of having a mentor,
- 15:49having a support group, having a community is so important.
- 15:53Mentorship gives you direction too.
- 15:56It gives you accountability, and it also helps you not quit.
- 16:00I really have this belief that 90% of people don't get to
- 16:03flight because they don't have the support of not having
- 16:07someone let them quit. I think accountability is so
- 16:12important in having a coach because some people want to rely
- 16:18on friends and family to give them that support.
- 16:20And I just don't think when you're going for a professional
- 16:24goal like this, you can rely on your friends and family.
- 16:26Most of the time. They, I mean, aren't in
- 16:29healthcare. None of my friends and family
- 16:31were in healthcare, so they didn't understand what I was
- 16:33facing. And also they're not they're
- 16:37they're not going to give you point out critical feedback.
- 16:40They love you so much and want to support you so much that
- 16:43they're always going to give you pleasantries and nice things.
- 16:45Oh, you're doing so well. Hang in there.
- 16:48A coach and a mentor specifically like myself.
- 16:51I'm going to tell you exactly where I see you going wrong so
- 16:54that you can get yourself back on track, you can evaluate, you
- 16:58can get back up. You can not quit and you can go
- 17:00at it again. One big common thing that I talk
- 17:04about with my clients a lot is I'm not willing to listen to you
- 17:09unless you're playing inside the arena.
- 17:11Meaning a lot of people just think that they need to have all
- 17:15their friends and family on board and all this support and
- 17:19feel heavily confident before going for this goal.
- 17:21But the problem with that and the problem with being afraid, I
- 17:27think another common thing that I see is people don't want to
- 17:31tell other people that they're going for this goal because
- 17:34they're afraid they're going to fail or they're afraid of what
- 17:38people's reactions are going to be, that they might not be on
- 17:41board with them. And so when I give you like this
- 17:43thought, it's important to have a mentor and a coach, it's
- 17:47because we are playing in the arena for you.
- 17:51Meaning sometimes our brains very much go to people pleasing
- 17:56and wanting the support of people who are sitting in the
- 17:59Coliseum. And when I say playing in the
- 18:01arena, I want to listen to the people who are standing,
- 18:05fighting in the arena with me. And that's what a coach and a
- 18:08mentor is gonna do for you is they're playing in the arena
- 18:11with you. So I'm not willing to listen to
- 18:14anyone who's not playing in that arena with me because lots of
- 18:17people are going to have their thoughts and their opinions.
- 18:20And this is what having a mentor and a coach is really going to
- 18:23do for you. OK, so I just want to recap, and
- 18:25I'm going to get to some of these questions that you guys
- 18:27are asking, too. But I want to just recap the
- 18:30three things that I wish I would have known when I was trying to
- 18:33get to fly and that I really teach you inside my program.
- 18:36One, map out your plan earlier on as soon as you know so you
- 18:40want flight, that's when you want to start mapping out your
- 18:42plan so that you can stay on track and you can not hustle and
- 18:45overwork #2 focus on ride alongs and making connections with
- 18:50flight companies right away. You want to start doing 6 to 8 a
- 18:53year. I teach you exactly how to ask
- 18:55for them and how to do them anywhere in the United States
- 18:57inside my program. You also want to focus on your
- 19:00leadership qualities inside the unit that you're working in.
- 19:03So ERICU and not jumping around. You want to work ER or ICU and
- 19:09stay in one department. Doesn't matter if it's World
- 19:11Bed. Doesn't matter if it's a level
- 19:121. They need nurses all in between.
- 19:14Don't just chase level 1 #3 get a mentor and a coach.
- 19:20You do not want to go out this alone.
- 19:21You go out alone, you're going to quit.
- 19:23Inside the Flight Prep Academy, I not only give you weekly
- 19:27coaching, but you have a community private group chat
- 19:30where you can tap into support either personally or
- 19:33professionally 24/7. It's so pivotal, so important to
- 19:38be in a supportive community and group with people who are
- 19:42working towards the same goal. It's really important to have
- 19:45that type of support because they're are not going to let you
- 19:48quit and they know exactly what you're going through and you do
- 19:51not feel alone in some of these thoughts and feelings that
- 19:53you're having. So those are the three things
- 19:56you do not have to feel confident before you start going
- 19:59for this goal. I see a lot of people wait for
- 20:01that to feel ready. You will never feel ready once
- 20:03you get hired in the flight. You still won't feel ready.
- 20:06And so it's really just deciding to take action before then
- 20:09decide you belong in this industry.
- 20:11This dream that was placed in your heart was placed there for
- 20:15a reason. And I.
- 20:17I can confidently tell you with all of the people that I've
- 20:21helped get hired and myself for flying for seven years to clock
- 20:25into a job or you feel fulfilled and you feel like what this is
- 20:29what you are meant to be doing. And you walk in with this level
- 20:32of autonomy, fees, level of skills and to be working with
- 20:35the best of the best is just something that you cannot
- 20:39recreate. And you will know if you are not
- 20:42living up to your full potential.
- 20:43If you feel burnt out in your current job and you feel
- 20:46unfulfilled and you still have thoughts of what if, if that is
- 20:49you and you know you want flight, come join us inside the
- 20:52Flight Prep Academy. Right now I am offering a bonus
- 20:55until this Saturday, July 19th. You're going to get a 20 minute
- 21:00bonus road map, one-on-one call with me.
- 21:03Meaning we're going to spend one-on-one time together
- 21:05building out your plan no matter where you are to get you on
- 21:08track as soon as you join the Flight Prep Academy.
- 21:11You do not have to do that before Saturday, the 19th.
- 21:15This Saturday you just have to join the program and then I send
- 21:18you a scheduling link where you can schedule out in the next
- 21:20couple months this 20 minute road map call.
- 21:22But this is where we're going to simplify your plan and build the
- 21:25belief together. Inside the Flight Prep Academy,
- 21:29you're going to get your exact process of how to get to flight.
- 21:32I cut out all the fluff. You don't have to Google
- 21:34anything. You don't have to ask anybody
- 21:35anymore. I have a five step process that
- 21:37I take you through that has gotten dozens of people hired
- 21:39into flight before their three-year time, three-year
- 21:42time. I actually just had four people
- 21:45in their recent couple months get hired at the 2 1/2 year mark
- 21:47and one at the one year mark. And that's because I am really
- 21:51just focused on cutting out all the fluff and just the five
- 21:54things that you want to be working on as you're getting to
- 21:56flight. So you're going to get the five
- 21:57step process inside a member portal that you can tap into
- 22:00anytime. You're also going to get weekly
- 22:03calls with me. So we meet together as a group
- 22:06every Tuesday. Everybody work shift work in
- 22:08this group. So you don't have to make it
- 22:09live to every call, but every call will be recorded and how
- 22:12inside the member portal for you to go back and watch any time
- 22:15together. So you're going to have that
- 22:17weekly call support. You're also going to get
- 22:19guidance on how to secure a ride along anywhere in the United
- 22:23States and how to prepare for them, which is really important.
- 22:26You want to go in and be fully prepared for these ride alongs
- 22:31because I am seeing them use this as a part of the interview
- 22:34process as well. Inside the member portal, you're
- 22:36also going to get how to build your flight resume, even if
- 22:40you're just starting out, even if you're in nursing school.
- 22:42And then you're going to get critical care interview prep to
- 22:45get hired in critical care as a new grad, new grad.
- 22:47And then flight interview prep for specifically what to focus
- 22:51on for flight interviews, for panel interviews and for case
- 22:53scenarios. And then all of this you're
- 22:55going to get for a lifetime access to this group, to the
- 22:59member portal to the live calls with a private community group
- 23:02chat as well that you can tap into 24/7.
- 23:05So again, if you join by this Saturday the 19th, you're going
- 23:08to get a bonus 20 minute one-on-one road map building
- 23:12call with me so that we can plan out your individualized plan.
- 23:16You guys can DM me flight or comment flight in the notes
- 23:20right now to get information about joining sent directly to
- 23:25you and to your direct message. And if you are listening to this
- 23:28podcast right now, you can also click on the show notes to find
- 23:32out more on how to join. I just want to end with if
- 23:36flight doesn't happen by waiting, OK, It happens by
- 23:40deciding. And this week, I just want to
- 23:42offer for you to decide to start taking action now towards this
- 23:45goal. This is the only difference
- 23:47between the people who make it and the people who don't.
- 23:49They're not the smartest, they're not the most
- 23:51experienced. They're just the ones who have
- 23:53decided that they're going to start taking action on it now
- 23:55before they feel 100% confident. I'm going to go through and
- 23:59answer some questions that I see on this live before we finish
- 24:02up. And after I'm doing that, if you
- 24:04guys have any questions while I'm going through the comments,
- 24:07if you want to put them in the question box below, I'm able to
- 24:10get to them quicker as well. What experience is a travel ER
- 24:14nurse? I'm not really sure where your
- 24:17question is, if you're still on that, Sophia, if you wanna give
- 24:21me more clarification, but I it doesn't matter that you've been
- 24:25a travel ER nurse, You just need ER time.
- 24:27So if that's in travel nursing, if that's in CCT nursing, I'm
- 24:32seeing a lot of my nurses now come from travel experience or
- 24:35critical care transport. And that's fine.
- 24:37You just need three years critical care time.
- 24:39So it can be ERICUCCT travel nursing, but it needs to be in
- 24:43critical care. But again, if you want it, you
- 24:46want to be starting to do these right alongs and making
- 24:48connections as soon as you know that you want flight.
- 24:51OK, someone asks how is scheduling as a flight nurse?
- 24:53Really depends on the base, the company and where you live.
- 24:59So there are companies where you do 24 hour shifts.
- 25:05That's like the company I worked for.
- 25:06We did 24 hour shifts. So we did 2 shifts a week.
- 25:09I actually worked 124 on, had 124 off, worked my second 24 on,
- 25:14and had five days off in a row. It was seriously like winning
- 25:17the time lottery. I loved it.
- 25:19It felt like I wasn't even working a full time job and I
- 25:21had five days off in a row to spend with my four kids at home,
- 25:24which was like the perfect job for me.
- 25:27A lot of flight nurses decide to go back to school or work a
- 25:30second job. That's when I decided to get my
- 25:32BSN was when I became a flight nurse because I had so much more
- 25:35time left and available. But you do not to have to have
- 25:41your BSN prior to getting the flight.
- 25:43You just need to have your associates.
- 25:45Scheduling can also depend on if you take a travel flight
- 25:49position. So they have travel flight
- 25:50nurses where you may work like a seven days on and then have
- 25:5514-14 days off. There's flight nurse positions
- 25:58that are hospital based where you just do 312 hour shifts.
- 26:01They're all pretty different, but I would say the majority of
- 26:05them are 12 or 24 hour shifts. Another common question that I
- 26:10get asked to is how much do flight nurses make?
- 26:12And this is all dependent on where you live, the base in the
- 26:14company you you work for. Just like regular nursing, it
- 26:18depends on the state you live in, the hospital you work at.
- 26:21But for the most part, I mean, I doubled my salary when I went
- 26:25into flight and it was mostly because you're getting, I got
- 26:28paid time and a half and double time for every shift that I
- 26:30worked. Someone said advice for someone
- 26:35in Canada. I know that I do have a couple
- 26:38Canadian students that are in the flight prep Academy.
- 26:41I know that Canada flight requirements are pretty much the
- 26:43same. They're about three to five
- 26:45years of ER or ICU experience. US is about 3 years.
- 26:50So just really depends on what part of Canada that you live in.
- 26:55But my process will still take you through the same process of
- 26:59getting to flight as is required in Canada.
- 27:01So good question. OK, that's all I see for the
- 27:04questions. I just want to remind you guys
- 27:07of this bonus that I'm offering till Saturday.
- 27:10This is going till July 19th. It's a 20 minute one-on-one road
- 27:14map call where we're going to map out your plan.
- 27:16So if you join by Saturday, July 19th, you'll get an opportunity
- 27:21to book that one-on-one call with me.
- 27:23And no matter where you are starting, if you know that you
- 27:27want flight, decide now that you want to start taking action
- 27:30towards it. And if you know that you want
- 27:33flight nursing or flight paramedicine, join us inside the
- 27:36Flight Prep Academy. I'm going to help you create
- 27:37success all the way there. And I'm going to help you all
- 27:40the way to an offer with lifetime access.
- 27:42OK, that's it this week. Thanks guys.
- 27:44We'll talk to you later. Bye.
- 27:46Anything in the this episode sparked your interest into
- 27:48getting into flight? Come join my flight flight
