- 0:03Hello and welcome to The Price of Music, brought to you by
- 0:05Music Ally. It is our final show of 2025.
- 0:09So it's a slightly different kettle of fish this week as we
- 0:13conclude proceedings for the year with our Price of Music
- 0:172025 pop quiz, which I don't know about you, Stuart.
- 0:22I mean, I've said this before, but I'm very nervous of this.
- 0:24As someone whose memory recall has more holes in it than you
- 0:28know, than a sieve. This, this, this could be a bit
- 0:30career bruising, I think. What what do you reckon?
- 0:35Hopes high hopes high in the in the Dredge household for taking
- 0:39home the trophy. There isn't a trophy, but if
- 0:42there was. If it was to I'd note you know
- 0:44to your comments last time. I watched Mastermind last night
- 0:46where someone came on with their specialist subjects and
- 0:48completely spooned it. Really.
- 0:51You could tell they were having an internal nightmare as it went
- 0:53on did. We talk about that in the lock
- 0:56in, just in case you don't know, I was, I was saying that, and
- 1:00this is by no means trying to big myself up in any way, but
- 1:05twice I've been approached by the researchers on Celebrity
- 1:10Mastermind inquiring as to whether I would like to take
- 1:13part in Celebrity Mastermind. And on both occasions I said no,
- 1:16thank you very much, but purely for that, for the fear of
- 1:20sitting there and going blank. Did you ever see Tom Ravenscroft
- 1:24when he did Celebrity Mastermind?
- 1:26How did it go? Oh, and he, it was, you know,
- 1:28he's picked a specialist. His specialist subject was
- 1:31something to do with music and it was a label, I think maybe a
- 1:34certain record label. And you could see the pain.
- 1:38And he's either asking you in questions and he was just just
- 1:41blanking, blanking. I just can't.
- 1:44And within seconds I'm sure of the buzzer going to beep at the
- 1:48end. He'd been going, oh, well,
- 1:50that's obviously that and that's that.
- 1:51But that's what, that's why I've never done it.
- 1:54And that's why I am quite scared of this.
- 1:57Anyway, nevertheless, we would like to to thank all our super
- 2:00fans who have contributed questions for this quiz.
- 2:05So there's some questions set by them and some which have been
- 2:08compiled by our producer who is also taking on the role of
- 2:13quizmaster for this episode. So ladies and gentlemen, will
- 2:17you welcome the man behind the scenes, the man who gets us
- 2:20online every week, the Ken Bruce of Music Industry Podcast.
- 2:24It's Captain Joe Sparrow. Thank you very much.
- 2:27Good to be here. Everyone applauds.
- 2:29That is the, I mean that's my now new benchmark for being
- 2:32introduced. Thank you, Steve.
- 2:33Appreciate that by the way, is that worth a point?
- 2:37Well, put it this way, when I'm feeling generous later when the
- 2:41questions get particularly tricky, I'll keep that in.
- 2:43Mind Well, I'm nervous today because you both have great
- 2:46radio voices. Both of you like 2 of my the two
- 2:49best radio voices I know. And I'm going to be sitting here
- 2:51as the guy who writes for a living who's trying to talk.
- 2:53So that's why I'm really worried about I'm going to be the loser
- 2:56on that front. That's a very good point.
- 2:57So you can take a point off Stuart for for not having a
- 3:01radio voice. The Dirty tricks are starting
- 3:04early, aren't they? Yeah, I see.
- 3:05There's no, there's no points for voices here, Stuart.
- 3:07It's all, it's all we call on knowledge you'll be pleased to
- 3:09know. And in keeping with the topics
- 3:11discussed this year, I'm happy to say that I've used AI to
- 3:13generate a 1990s TV game show style theme for this quiz, which
- 3:18I'll play now. Hang on, here we go.
- 3:28That that actually is very good. That is pretty much spot on,
- 3:32isn't it? Thought I'd go the extra mile if
- 3:34it's seeing as we've been talking about it all year.
- 3:37And yeah, so we've got 7 short themed rounds of questions and
- 3:41in some rounds you'll need to write down your questions, but
- 3:45your answers to the questions. But I will give you answers
- 3:47after each question and I'll tot up the scores as we go along.
- 3:51Some multiple choice questions, some questions are provided by
- 3:55listeners, others are from me based on stuff you've discussed
- 3:59on the podcast this year, and one question is from a indie
- 4:02special guest. And then at the end we'll reveal
- 4:06the scores and crown one of you. Quiz Champion 2025 round one if
- 4:12you're ready, is your knowledge on things that are featured on
- 4:16The Price of Music this year. Question one is the price of
- 4:20Music is the music industry's number one Peppa Pig and Baby
- 4:23Shark music news service as you know, but which one has been
- 4:26mentioned in the most episodes of the Price of Music this year?
- 4:30This is excluding the lock insurance it's public episodes.
- 4:32Is it a Peppa Pig, is it B baby shark or is it C?
- 4:36They were both mentioned the same amount of times.
- 4:42OK. OK.
- 4:43OK. OK, the answer is see three
- 4:47episodes each. I was sure that was baby shark.
- 4:52I was sure that's baby shark. That's zero for both of you on
- 4:56that one. And question #2 what was the
- 4:58name of the world's only old female Slade tribute band
- 5:02mentioned by Steve back in October?
- 5:08OK. OK.
- 5:10OK, the answer, of course, is slady.
- 5:13Slady. Yeah, that's ladies.
- 5:16Ladies, dude, no, I'm being difficult half for that.
- 5:19Nope, Steve. Very.
- 5:22Harsh. Yeah, I had this lady.
- 5:23Lady OK, one for Steve Question 3 Lily Allen has had a really
- 5:28great 2025, but this time last year she was featured on The
- 5:32Price of Music for a story where she was making good money
- 5:36selling photos of her feet on Only Fans.
- 5:39OK, but what was the star rating out of five for her feet on foot
- 5:45enthusiast platform wiki feet? Was it 4 stars out of five, 4.5
- 5:50stars out of five, or five stars out of five?
- 5:56I mean, this, this is what you guess, right?
- 5:59So I'm, I, I, I'm going to guess 4 1/2 four.
- 6:04And a half. I'm guessing 5.
- 6:06Stu's getting guessing 5. The correct answer is five, in
- 6:10fact. So a point for Stu.
- 6:12Wow. I wouldn't expect either of you
- 6:14to be a regular users of wiki feet, so you probably.
- 6:19I'm wondering if any of us have run it?
- 6:21Well, only one way to finance you.
- 6:23We'll resource that later. OK, question number 4 then.
- 6:29The podcast reported on an exploding toilet cancelling a
- 6:32gig recently. But which venue was that?
- 6:35Oh, right. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:38Do you do you want to go first, Stuart?
- 6:40Go on, Steve King tuts. Whoa, hat.
- 6:42Yeah, King tuts. I'll give you one point.
- 6:44Congratulations and follow up question.
- 6:48What was the name of the band whose show was cancelled?
- 6:57It was a band, wasn't it? And then there was there was the
- 6:59female artists who'd come all the way from somewhere like New
- 7:02Zealand to support, and I can't remember the name of either of
- 7:06them. I'm looking for.
- 7:09Oh, he's very strict, isn't he? Yeah, we.
- 7:14Can't even come up with any Pooh pans or anything, can we?
- 7:16Like I'm going to have to pass. Yeah, OK, It was fickle friends.
- 7:22Fickle friends. Sorry, fickle friends.
- 7:24OK, and then a bonus question, which ties together both King
- 7:29Tut's and another major event of the year.
- 7:32There's three points available in this one.
- 7:33This year saw the glorious return of Oasis playing live,
- 7:38who of course discovered at the venue.
- 7:39But which 1990s Oasis songs sounded similar enough to songs
- 7:45by other artists that Oasis had to pay settlements or offer
- 7:48songwriting credits? One point for each of these
- 7:51three songs. Oh.
- 7:54What's the oh, that's really, I should really know this.
- 8:03What's the one that has the Gary Glitter sample?
- 8:09Oh yes, that's one. Can't remember the title of it.
- 8:15I mean, you know, if we were being waggish about this, you'd
- 8:19probably say most of the first two albums.
- 8:23But I mean actual, actual laws, and they were actual lawsuits,
- 8:27were not lawsuits, but but a copyright infringement was
- 8:30upheld, was it? Correct.
- 8:32So these are the ones I'm going to, I'm going to help you out
- 8:35here and say it is not the Gary Glitter one because that was a
- 8:38an agreed use in advance. So it's 3 songs that later went
- 8:43either for settlements or songwriting credits.
- 8:46Are they famous songs? They are.
- 8:48Well, yes, two of them I would say are famous.
- 8:51Did. I mean, and the and the titles
- 8:54are No, we didn't for that. Almost.
- 8:57Almost it's. Because we wanted to discuss
- 8:58this really rather but so I'm going to I'll go with one is
- 9:00cigarettes and alcohol the beginning bit That's a.
- 9:02I'm afraid not, no. Which is interesting, isn't it?
- 9:07That's the that's. What's the one that begins like
- 9:08a Sex Pistols song? You know, I mean about half a
- 9:13dozen of them. Yeah, I like the way you're
- 9:15bobbing your head around as if that's going to down.
- 9:19You're going to kick yourselves when I tell you.
- 9:21Whatever. Don't look back in anger.
- 9:24OK, Stu, got a point there. What?
- 9:26There was one. I'll tell you all three
- 9:29whatever. Which was settled with Neil
- 9:32Innes, who was awarded a Co writing credit.
- 9:35Yeah, it was found person. Parts of it are closely
- 9:39resembled his song How Free to Be an Idiot Shaker Maker.
- 9:45The band, of course famously settled with the rights holders
- 9:47of I'd Like to Teach You All to Sing, and according to it, I
- 9:51think this is Wikipedia reportedly paying around half
- 9:53$1,000,000. And then finally from the second
- 9:56album Step Out, which was removed from the main album just
- 10:00ahead of release after Stevie Wonder and Co writers challenged
- 10:03its similarity to his song Uptight Brackets.
- 10:06Everything's All Right. And then they later received a
- 10:08writing credit when it was released as a peace.
- 10:10So there you go. One point to Stu.
- 10:12And then after that first round, then I should probably play the
- 10:15game show team again. Yeah, please do.
- 10:20OK, so yeah, after the first round, Stu has three points and
- 10:24Steve has two points. OK, alright, this is where you
- 10:29say it's plenty of time or still everything to play for every
- 10:33time. Lots of points available, lots
- 10:35of points you. See.
- 10:36You're you're still playing for the checkbook and pen now round
- 10:39#2 are these are listeners questions.
- 10:42And so we put the we put a call out to the patron super fans.
- 10:47They could have chosen to submit questions in one of three
- 10:50categories, which were tricky music trivia name that year or
- 10:54the answer is your favorite artist and they all pick tricky
- 10:57music trivia. So these are their favorite.
- 11:01This is the four super fans here their favorite music trivia
- 11:05question. OK, so again, write down your
- 11:08these are, write down your answers and I'll announce the
- 11:13correct ones after each question.
- 11:15This is from Kate Collins. Kate says.
- 11:18How many UK #1 singles has Billy Bragg had?
- 11:27OK. OK, Stu.
- 11:30OK, Steve, we'll go first with you. 1.
- 11:34And Stu. 1. One the correct answer is one it
- 11:39was the charity AA side she's leaving home with Wet, Wet Wet.
- 11:44That's right in 19. 88 Thank you, Kate.
- 11:48Got that one. OK, one each.
- 11:50OK. Second question from Richard
- 11:51Bose, which indie band were the first choice?
- 11:58But also turned down the song Believe which then became A7
- 12:02week number one hit to share. I was.
- 12:05I was. What an actual an actual indie
- 12:09band, really. Yes, I would say it's stretching
- 12:14the stretching the term a little bit.
- 12:15I'll give you a clue there, but I would probably drop them in
- 12:17that bracket. So what sort of era is so I
- 12:23think? That was sort of 1999.
- 12:27Was that Stu trusting you? I saw it on the top of the
- 12:34Pope's, you know, rehash show the other week and they were
- 12:37talking about it getting turned down.
- 12:38God damn it. Yeah.
- 12:40Do you know what I haven't? I, I, I have no idea.
- 12:44But this is good because whatever the answer is, I'm
- 12:47going to be using this in in my own show.
- 12:50Hang on, Stu's digging deep, folks.
- 12:53No, I know it. I know it.
- 12:55OK, Yeah. What is it?
- 12:57It's an Etienne, isn't it? It is indeed St.
- 13:00Etienne. Congratulations and the only.
- 13:02Reason I know that is because we were talking and I couldn't
- 13:04imagine Sarah Kraknell singing it.
- 13:07It's because I just can only hear Cher singing it.
- 13:10There you go. It would, yeah.
- 13:11That's that's my evening's in watching top of the pups.
- 13:15Reruns kindly your your weekend rewards.
- 13:19So thank you, Richard. Good.
- 13:23OK, question #3 this is from Ian Beresford.
- 13:26Now Ian says, what is the connection between Lost in Music
- 13:30by Sister Sledge, Victoria by The Kinks, and There's a Ghost
- 13:35in My House by R Dean Taylor. Oh.
- 13:37Nice one. I've got no idea in this.
- 13:43This thank you very much. This place to our strengths.
- 13:47They've all been covered by the fall.
- 13:50Correct. Straight in there.
- 13:52Very, very good. Yeah.
- 13:54Exactly. All been covered by the fall.
- 13:56And then a final question from the Patron Super fans is from
- 14:01Gerard G OK, now there's a there's two parts of this.
- 14:07The first question is which British synth pop musician and
- 14:11songwriter had four UK top four hit singles with four different
- 14:17acts in the 1980s? You can get a point for the
- 14:21musician and a bonus point if you can name all of the singers
- 14:26in the four other acts. This one.
- 14:30Is tough, I'll be honest. Right.
- 14:33But the clue is British synth pop musician and some.
- 14:35Yeah. And it's it's a what's the
- 14:41period again? 1980s.
- 14:44OK. Well, listeners at home, there's
- 14:55some very furrowed brows going on here.
- 14:57There's a lot of thinking happening.
- 14:58I mean, it's the ISIS that's that's.
- 15:02OK. Are we ready?
- 15:04If you can remember the 80s, you weren't ashamed enough.
- 15:06Yeah, right. Stu, do you want to go first
- 15:08with your answer? I get a Mark Holmond.
- 15:12I'm afraid not, Steve. Vince Clark.
- 15:16It is Vince Clark. So Alison Moyer, correct?
- 15:22What was this? What was his name?
- 15:23Andy? Andy Bell?
- 15:24Was it Andy? Bell from Eurasia, yes.
- 15:29And that's, I think on that's my done who I'm never going to get
- 15:33two more, I don't think. Was he in early Depeche Mode?
- 15:37No, he was. Correct the Depeche.
- 15:39Mode was the oh, I didn't think of that.
- 15:41Right. OK, I'm I'm merely thinking of
- 15:43what he did post Depeche Mode, but yeah, OK, so so Dave gone.
- 15:47Dave gone. I don't know Jimmy Somerville.
- 15:50Very close. It was the assembly with Fogle
- 15:52Sharky. Oh, there you go.
- 15:55There you go. Very close to the bonus point
- 15:57there, Steve, but I'm, I'm going to be very strict and say very
- 16:01strict and say that this round was a, oh, hang on pop music,
- 16:04hang on there. We go.
- 16:09So at the end of this round, it's a reversal of the first
- 16:12round. That was 2 points to Stew, three
- 16:14points to Steve, and the running total therefore is 5 all.
- 16:19Bless you super fans. Thank you.
- 16:21That's all to. Play for Yes.
- 16:23Thank you for those. There are some more super fan
- 16:27questions coming up later. You'll be thrilled to know round
- 16:30#3 is where we start blending together music industry and pop
- 16:35trivia knowledge. OK, so this is band names and
- 16:39music biz big cheeses. OK, three points to play for
- 16:43here. Now the UK music business has a
- 16:45bunch of industry organizations that have ex artists at the helm
- 16:49and this is a round that is about those artists and their
- 16:52artists names. So these are multiple choice
- 16:55questions. You can say your answers
- 16:57immediately afterwards. Question #1 Sam Duckworth works
- 17:00for the UK music venue Trust, but is better known, or was
- 17:03better known at one time as the artist Get Cape where Cape fly.
- 17:07But where did the name, and I'm going to use the word allegedly
- 17:10here, come from? OK 3 three options.
- 17:13Is it A from a video game magazine?
- 17:16Is it B from a short story that Duckworth wrote in GCSE English
- 17:20about 1980s strongman Jeff Capes?
- 17:24Or is it C from an advert in a local shop that sold waterproof
- 17:28clothing for fly fishermen? I mean, two of those, two of
- 17:34those are so preposterous, they're, they're probably right.
- 17:37Yeah. I should know this as well,
- 17:40Seth. I'm really sorry, Sam.
- 17:42I was, I was really excited there thinking, I know it.
- 17:44He's get careful. Yeah, I knew his artist name,
- 17:46but that wasn't the. Question.
- 17:48No, that's not the answer you need.
- 17:49I think it's the first one which is the sensible 1.
- 17:52The video game. So you're both going for the
- 17:54video game? Magazine.
- 17:58Yes, sadly you are correct. According to him, his original
- 18:02staging came from Retro Gamer magazine about a walk through a
- 18:07video game that was the enemy in 2006.
- 18:10Digging deep here. OK second question.
- 18:13Tom Gray is now a big cheese in the industry organizations.
- 18:17The Ivars Academy PRS for music and UK music, but he was also in
- 18:21the band Gomez. However, where did the band
- 18:23named Gomez come from? Was it a named after Gomez Adams
- 18:29from the Adams family TV show? Was it BA friend of the band
- 18:33whose name was Gomez? Or was it C the late 90s Chilean
- 18:37international footballer Jorg Gomez?
- 18:42I've got the Adams family theme in my head, so that's that's how
- 18:45I'm going to think. Can I go with the footballer
- 18:48because I'd love that to be true.
- 18:51So C. Steve's going for C, Stu A going
- 18:56for A Gomez, Adams, the Adams family.
- 18:59The correct answer is the mundane one.
- 19:01I'm afraid it's B the friend of the band.
- 19:04This is according to Wikipedia. The band played its first gig in
- 19:061996 in Leeds at the Hyde Park Social Club.
- 19:09At the time, they didn't have a formal name, and the band left a
- 19:12sign outside which read Gomez in Here for a friend of theirs
- 19:16whose surname was Gomez. People saw the sign and assumed
- 19:20it was the band's name and it stuck.
- 19:23That's the mundane. OK, That's the father.
- 19:25Lovely. Yeah, that's his.
- 19:27Did I ever tell you how the bands there was the UK punk band
- 19:31Snuff, How they got their name will have proportively how they
- 19:33got their name. They all went to the pub early
- 19:36one evening because this, they've been trying to pick a
- 19:38name for weeks and weeks and weeks.
- 19:40And they said we'll, we'll sit in the pub until we actually get
- 19:43a name. And and so they carried on
- 19:47drinking, swapping suggestions of names, none of which they
- 19:50could agree on, until one of them just collapsed basically on
- 19:54the table and say snuff, that's enough.
- 20:00Fantastic Snuff. I think every band name should
- 20:03involve a line in the anecdote saying they carried on drinking
- 20:07and then the band name. Well into the evening, yeah.
- 20:11All right. OK, so final question in this
- 20:13round is a Crispin Hunt is also a Grande Fromage at the Ivar's
- 20:17Academy and Purist Music, but was of course in the band Long
- 20:21Pigs. But what does Long Pig mean?
- 20:23I know this one OK. Is it?
- 20:26Is it A and a brand of animal feed seen on Hunt's father's pig
- 20:32farm? Is it BA word for the cooked
- 20:36human body when eaten by cannibals?
- 20:38Or is it CA type of surfboard that Richard Hawley learned to
- 20:42use when he went on holiday to Hawaii?
- 20:48I think it's there's no, there's no why Richard Hawley went on
- 20:51holiday to Hawaii. Is there?
- 20:53Can we stick with that image of Richard Hawley surfing in Hawaii
- 20:56though? I mean, I quite like it because,
- 20:57I mean, he'd look, I mean, he looks cool anyway, but Can you
- 21:00imagine Richard Hawley on a surfboard?
- 21:02I mean, apart from, you know, his skinny for seek might let
- 21:06him down something, but his hair man.
- 21:09Actually, that's probably why he wouldn't ever go surfing for
- 21:11fear of damaging his quiff. Yeah.
- 21:15Wild guess at Bee. What is it then, Stuart?
- 21:18At Bee, I think cannibals. It's that's correct.
- 21:21It is indeed an obsolete term translated from Maori in
- 21:25Polynesian. It's human flesh eaten by
- 21:27cannibals. Can I bust out a long pig's
- 21:30anecdote? Oh, why not?
- 21:33I interviewed, they were my first ever interview when I was
- 21:35at university and they've been on the radio.
- 21:37Might have been your show Steve, I don't know.
- 21:39They played a session and they played, she said inches by
- 21:41saying this is a song about fashion and how I despise it.
- 21:45That was his line. So I asked him what we thought
- 21:47about fashion, what's that about?
- 21:48And he, he basically Crispin said, well if we all have Big
- 21:52Blue baboons, asses, we wouldn't give a shit about fashion, would
- 21:55we? And that was the perfect
- 21:57explanation. And that's my first interview
- 22:01and I was there going. I haven't really prepared for
- 22:03how to follow that. No.
- 22:05My follow up question doesn't really match.
- 22:07I'm picturing Richard Hawley now on a surfboard with the Big Blue
- 22:10baboons, ours and his. Quote, boys, boys, can we keep
- 22:16this, keep this clean? It's This is tea time viewing.
- 22:23You're having a bad fever dream later you'd like.
- 22:24Guys, Yeah. OK, well, running score then
- 22:27it's all it really is all to play for seven all at the
- 22:30moment. And so I've got a good job.
- 22:35I've got a tiebreaker question right at the end.
- 22:36That's all I'm going to say. Round 4 is where we move on to
- 22:41our special Celebrity Superstar question, and the special
- 22:46Celebrity Superstar guest is Eddie Argos from Art Brute.
- 22:52Hello Steve, it's due Merry Christmas.
- 22:54Here's my pub quiz question for you from an actual pub art brute
- 22:59often sing about Top of the Pops.
- 23:01Yeah, sadly never performed on the show.
- 23:03The last ever regular edition of Top of the Pops was on the 23rd
- 23:06of July 2006. The Which Guitar Band performed
- 23:10the final ever song in the studio?
- 23:15Oh, that's, that's a good question.
- 23:18Yeah, 2006. 2006 Last performance in the Studio 2.
- 23:241000 Guitar Band 2006 OK, so. What's what era is that in
- 23:29indie? That's.
- 23:30Let me give you a slight clue, which is my original wording of
- 23:32the question said which indie band and Eddie refused to call
- 23:36this artist an indie band. Oh, is it like a sort of a cold
- 23:40place, new patrol type? I'm.
- 23:42Not going to give you any more clues.
- 23:46Coldplay. Stew's going for Coldplay.
- 23:51Well, because I don't know, and I'm being tactical about this, I
- 23:56am also going to say Coldplay. See, it's getting it's getting
- 24:02under hand when it gets so close.
- 24:03The correct answer is Snow Patrol with.
- 24:09Chasing cars, yeah. So at the end of that round,
- 24:13it's still 7 all. Do you know, do you know what
- 24:17the terrible thing this quiz is like normally?
- 24:19Like what are they? There's about 12 years between
- 24:20us, isn't there Steve? And normally if I was in a face
- 24:23off in a quiz with a with someone who's 12 year old, I'm
- 24:25like, well, at least when you get the Brit pop questions, I'll
- 24:27have an advantage. But I don't, because you're
- 24:29Steve Lemak. OK.
- 24:34All right. So there we are.
- 24:36Thank you to Eddie Argos for providing that.
- 24:39And OK, the next round. So we've got rounds 5 and 6.
- 24:43Round 5 is questions for Stu about Steve based on what we've
- 24:48been doing on the podcast this year.
- 24:50So Stu, Are you ready? OK, so in in these rounds,
- 24:53there'll be 3 questions for each of you.
- 24:55About the other one, you can say the answers immediately because
- 24:57only one of you is replying. There are four questions.
- 24:59There are four points for the three questions.
- 25:03So Stu, question number one, what is the name of the OAP
- 25:08themed band that Steve has been infusing over in recent months?
- 25:14OAP themed band. Yeah.
- 25:16Oh, little granddad. Little granddad correct one
- 25:20point question #2 Steve went to a party this year.
- 25:25This is all information that has been taken from the podcast, by
- 25:28the way. Steve went to a party this year
- 25:29and chatted to which Britpop superstar singer.
- 25:32Oh, Damon Orban. Damon Orban Correct, 2 points
- 25:36and the final question has two points.
- 25:39The first question is which venue was it and what was Damon
- 25:43drinking? One point for each.
- 25:49I remember it was a party for what's his name?
- 25:51Wasn't it Mike Smith the the IT? Was, but there's no points for
- 25:55that piece. Of it was in a, it was in, it
- 25:56was in a social, I'm going to say social.
- 25:58We've talked about that sometimes.
- 25:59I'm afraid not. It was the 100 Club.
- 26:02And oh, and he was drinking lager.
- 26:09It was a double vodka. I'm afraid so.
- 26:13Two points out of four. There you go.
- 26:17Can I, can I, can I just before you ask the questions, can I
- 26:22just say black crows is the answer for all of them Black
- 26:26crows and the darkness which those are my, those are my
- 26:31answers. You may be under something here
- 26:33Steve. So Steve, your questions are
- 26:36before we get onto the Black Crows questionable one.
- 26:40Again, 4 points for these three questions.
- 26:43Stu made an AI generated song to demonstrate the capabilities or
- 26:47otherwise of the technology. But which London borough was
- 26:50mentioned in its terrible lyrics?
- 26:54Camden. It was Camden indeed in the song
- 26:57Camden Knights, which I will not talk to you.
- 27:00I was going to say again, we play that again.
- 27:04Question #2 this is digging deep now, but so there's a bit of a
- 27:07clue here. When we were talking about fan
- 27:09clubs a few months ago, the first fan club that Stu was a
- 27:13member of was for Which? Journalistic children's BBC
- 27:18show. There is only one journalistic
- 27:25BBC show for kids. It's what?
- 27:28What was it, Newsround? Stu, was it Newsround?
- 27:32It was. I was in the press pack.
- 27:34It was indeed. The news pack.
- 27:37Press pack. OK, so in the final question, as
- 27:41predicted and the the way that there's two points on offer here
- 27:48you get. But let me explain the question.
- 27:50In how many episodes has Stu mentioned the black crows?
- 27:55This is excluding the lock in on the standard show.
- 27:57How many times of all time since the podcast started has Stu
- 28:01mentioned the black crows on the podcast?
- 28:04You get 2 points if you're within one digit of the correct
- 28:07number, and one point if you're within 3 digits of the correct
- 28:12number. I mean, I don't know how many
- 28:15shows, how many shows have we done in in since we started?
- 28:21I don't know the exact number, but let's say it's at least 70.
- 28:25Well, no. Maybe 60, yeah.
- 28:28So say say we've done 60 shows, so the answer will be 59.
- 28:34No one. I think I don't mention that
- 28:36often, but I think the reaction is so fiscal that seems like
- 28:40more than it is. I'm going, I'm going to say 13
- 28:45times. This is unfortunate because
- 28:49you're 4 digits away. It was 9 times. 9 * 9 feels like
- 28:54a lot more than that. Are you sure you haven't missed
- 28:57some subtle references to the black crows along the way?
- 29:01I do. Get a lyrical reference in every
- 29:02show but no one you know any fans to know.
- 29:05You were talking about direct mentions of the band, stuff like
- 29:09that. There you go.
- 29:10So that's two points each in that round, which means hang on,
- 29:19at the end of round six, it's nine points each.
- 29:23Remarkably, head for head to head all the way along.
- 29:27So back into the final round, back to our super fans.
- 29:31This is round seven. We asked super fans for
- 29:35questions relating to Christmas music.
- 29:38That's Christmas pop music. I've got 3 questions here and
- 29:43they are all multiple choice. So give me your answers
- 29:46immediately and let's see if we can break this tie by the end.
- 29:52OK, first question from Kate Collins again.
- 29:56Kate's question is which was the first UK Christmas number one
- 30:01with the word Christmas in the title?
- 30:05Was it a Muds lonely this Christmas?
- 30:11Was it B Christmas Alphabet by Dickie Valentine or was it CI
- 30:16Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day by Wizard?
- 30:20And let me just say that one of these songs is a red herring and
- 30:22never actually made it #1. Yeah, that's the thing, isn't
- 30:26it? So did Wizard?
- 30:31Did wizard go to #1? Wasn't didn't Wizards come out
- 30:34at the same time as the other big famous Christmas one?
- 30:37What's the you know? The You mean?
- 30:39You mean Slade? Yes, Slady.
- 30:44Yeah, might have done. They had kept Wizard off.
- 30:47So I don't even know if I'm going for the the middle one,
- 30:54which I don't I can't remember. Dickie Valentine I see.
- 30:57I think the most obscure 1 is like a 50s thing and it probably
- 31:01did go to #1. Yeah, I'm going to, I'm going to
- 31:04go, I'm going to go with that. Otherwise, if Wizard went to
- 31:07number one, that's, I think that's the year before.
- 31:11Isn't that 73? And then lonely this Christmas
- 31:14is 74. It's definitely goes #1 and 74,
- 31:18right? I'm going to the middle one.
- 31:20I'm going for. You've got for Christmas
- 31:21alphabet. Stu yes.
- 31:23Same. Yeah, we could take this to a
- 31:25tie break just by answering the same all the time.
- 31:28OK. So you've both gone for
- 31:30Christmas Alphabet. The correct answer is Christmas
- 31:31Alphabet by Dickie Valentine 1955.
- 31:35That went to #1 and Steve, your pop knowledge is spot on.
- 31:41Muds Lonely This Christmas went to number one in 1974 and I Wish
- 31:44it Could be Christmas Everyday by Wizard has never been to #1.
- 31:47The song was beaten to the 1973 Christmas number one spot by
- 31:50Slades. Merry Christmas everybody.
- 31:52There you go. Between us, we basically sketch
- 31:54that plot out. Very, very well done.
- 31:57Very good, very good. OK.
- 31:59Yeah, remind me if I'm ever in a panic room to take take you with
- 32:04me. Thank you.
- 32:07Yeah, good. All right.
- 32:08What's next? OK.
- 32:09Next is from Richard Bose. What was the first Christmas
- 32:13number one of the new Millennium by which we had to consult?
- 32:18There's some controversy over when the Millennium begins, but
- 32:21I'm taking the year Christmas 2000.
- 32:24So what was the Christmas number one in the year 2000?
- 32:28Was it a Bob the builders, can we fix it?
- 32:32Was it B Westlife's double aside monstrosity I Have a Dream
- 32:36backed with Seasons in the Sun? Or was it C Robbie Williams and
- 32:39Nicole Kidman's Something Stupid?
- 32:48I'm just staring at the the image of Stuart on the screen in
- 32:53the hope that I can freak him out somehow.
- 32:54Can I see inside your head? What are you thinking?
- 32:58I can hear? The thoughts moving in students.
- 33:00Do you know what I'm thinking? I feel like there was and what
- 33:04were the three options again? Bob, the Builders.
- 33:07Can we fix it? Yeah.
- 33:08Westlife. I Have a Dream.
- 33:09Seasons in the Sun, Robbie Williams, Nicole Kidman.
- 33:11I felt like there was a chart battle between Westlife and Bob
- 33:14the Builder. Am I remembering that right?
- 33:16I, I am, I'm saying Bob the Builder.
- 33:18OK, I'm going to say Westlife. I'm I'm fairly sure they were,
- 33:20they were scrapping for #1 in that year, but so let's go for
- 33:23different ones. Westlife.
- 33:25Well, that's a point to Steve. It was Bob the Builder.
- 33:30Can we fix it? Westlife went to number one in
- 33:321999 and Robbie Williams, Nicole Kidman in 2001.
- 33:36Do you know why? Partly how I, Well, it was an
- 33:39informal guess, but I do remember that year that there
- 33:43was a radio plugger who I knew who instantly became the most
- 33:47popular man inside every time he visited the Radio One building
- 33:52because he was plugging Bob the Builder and had been given,
- 33:56let's just say, a fair, fair amount of Bob the Builder
- 34:00merchandise. And so I think there were a
- 34:04number of radio producers who were giving their children or
- 34:09their nieces or nephews free Bob the Builder toys.
- 34:14I think you. Might have sparked the next BBC
- 34:16inquiry, Steve. I think it's going to be Daily
- 34:20Mail gets hold of this. It's.
- 34:21Trouble. I mean Westlife were giving tour
- 34:23jackets away but that's nothing anyway.
- 34:25It was a, it was a battle that I feel like I remember being quite
- 34:28pleased about the world we got #1 because Westlife were not
- 34:31#1I. Think you might be under
- 34:33something there? Yes, but so maybe they were
- 34:36going for two consecutive years at #1 which also sounds
- 34:39plausible for Westlife, but clearly not.
- 34:42Three years in a row was not not not Landmark Christmas number
- 34:45ones. I don't think it's.
- 34:46Not sausage roll calibre. No, it's not lad baby quality.
- 34:51So that moves us into our final question, which is which is not
- 34:55multiple choice, it is just a straight answer.
- 34:57And this is so this is a tricky finish.
- 34:59It's from Ian Beresford. So this is the final question
- 35:03which which Christmas chart fact links Under the Moon of Love by
- 35:10Shawadiwadi, Build Me Up Buttercup by Foundations and
- 35:14Happy by Pharrell Williams. So this relates to the chart.
- 35:22This is about Christmas time and the chart Under the Moon of Love
- 35:27by Shawari Wadi, Build Me Up, Buttercup by Foundations and
- 35:29Happy by Pharrell. So, So what?
- 35:40What? So there's a connection between
- 35:42them? So it's a chart.
- 35:45Fact connection. It's auk chart fact, singles
- 35:48chart fact and they all achieved the same thing at Christmas.
- 35:56Did they? OK, I've got an idea.
- 35:59Go on then, Stuart. Did they like return to number
- 36:01one for Christmas, having been #1 earlier?
- 36:05You're on the right track, but it's not quite right.
- 36:09They were #1 the week before Christmas, Weren't number one at
- 36:13Christmas, went back to #1 after Christmas.
- 36:18I like your thinking. Again, not quite right.
- 36:19They were all #2 in the chart on Christmas Day.
- 36:24Oh, there you go. Should have, just should have
- 36:27had a punt with that. Well, after after that quiz,
- 36:33there's only one thing to do, and that's to tart up the
- 36:35scores. Now it was neck and neck the
- 36:42whole way and it was it's it's quite fulfilling, I think, to
- 36:45say that it was the superfan questions at the end there, that
- 36:48it was the only thing that separated you and Stu.
- 36:53I'm sure you'll feel unhappy that it was your lack above the
- 36:57building knowledge that is going to cause me to announce the
- 37:01winner with 11 points to 10 of the price of Music Christmas
- 37:05Queers as Steve Lamac. Congratulations, Steve.
- 37:08Thank you very much. Stuart, gracious in defeat, is
- 37:13is shaking his head. I'm.
- 37:16Just thinking it's just elect his pop crime perpetuated by
- 37:18Westlife. But no that was well won and
- 37:20well deserved. I I had no hard.
- 37:22Feelings and and really well hosted as well wasn't it yeah.
- 37:26Thank you very much, Joe. That was that was that was much
- 37:30better than I thought it was going to be.
- 37:32And not just because because I win the not trophy.
- 37:37Yes to the winner that spoils to the loser a whole year to dwell
- 37:42on your mistakes. Look at yourself in the mirror
- 37:46and let's just agree not to talk about this.
- 37:49Episode every morning as motivation with my training.
