- 0:00Speaker 1: My name is Ceci. I'm the vocalist of album Watis
- 0:02Speaker 1: from Melbourne.
- 0:03Speaker 2: And yeah, we're playing Necrosonic Festival next weekend, which is
- 0:08Speaker 2: super exciting.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Awesome, awesome, So how are you feeling? Mate? Like that?
- 0:13Speaker 4: It's as a bit of a big deal this festival,
- 0:16Speaker 4: the first year of it, but there's a massive lineup.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's crazy.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I'm super excited, like to especially to see Misery is
- 0:25Speaker 2: like a band that I really like, so I'm really
- 0:28Speaker 2: fucking excited to see them.
- 0:31Speaker 1: But no, it's just going to be sick.
- 0:32Speaker 2: There's been a few good festivals happening recently, so I'm like,
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm loving it. Like it's a huge day but it's
- 0:38Speaker 2: so fun and like you get to see all these
- 0:40Speaker 2: different bands and stuff and yeah, it's been cool regarded
- 0:44Speaker 2: what sort.
- 0:45Speaker 4: Of person here, Like do you go to the stuff
- 0:46Speaker 4: like this and do you get out there and watch
- 0:48Speaker 4: the bands or do you like to pace yourself the day?
- 0:50Speaker 3: Like how do you get through a day like that?
- 0:54Speaker 1: Oh?
- 0:55Speaker 2: I think because I mean to the festival kind of
- 0:58Speaker 2: side of things, I'm still relatively probably a bit new
- 1:01Speaker 2: to it, but like I mean playing it at least,
- 1:03Speaker 2: but I think I like to see the bands.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I definitely have.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Like, obviously, just before we're playing stuff, I'd probably just
- 1:12Speaker 2: take a bit of a moment just so I'm not
- 1:14Speaker 2: like making my voice too tired before I'm going to
- 1:17Speaker 2: go out there, but like take a moment.
- 1:18Speaker 1: But yeah, I love to just check out all the
- 1:20Speaker 1: bands that I can like.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Once we've gotten all the gear and if I'm not
- 1:23Speaker 2: selling merch or whatever, I'll be there watching bands.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Very good.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Now there's thirty bands playing over twelve hours and over
- 1:30Speaker 4: three stages, so there's going to be a lot of
- 1:32Speaker 4: people there that haven't heard in quite a few of
- 1:34Speaker 4: the bands there. So just say someone's coming along with Ecrosnic,
- 1:37Speaker 4: what three Alda Morts songs would you recommend they listen
- 1:40Speaker 4: to to get to know the band?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Probably probably Taste the Wound from the demo Welcome to
- 1:51Speaker 2: How with Don Campin, from Waking the Canava and Balls
- 2:00Speaker 2: to Entrails. Probably from the new ep ou es Ace
- 2:04Speaker 2: of Death.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Yeah right, Well, speaking of the new EP, have you
- 2:08Speaker 4: recently released that EP which was called Stages of Death?
- 2:11Speaker 3: So how was it received?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Really good? Really good?
- 2:17Speaker 2: It's sort of it was a bit of like a
- 2:19Speaker 2: long kind of process to kind of get it out
- 2:21Speaker 2: because we've had a few lineup changes over the past
- 2:24Speaker 2: couple of years. But finally once we got it out,
- 2:28Speaker 2: I think we all kind of just had like huge
- 2:30Speaker 2: sigh of relief because we were like, oh my god,
- 2:32Speaker 2: it's out, like because to us, like and I'm sure
- 2:35Speaker 2: anyone in bands and stuff wouldn't, but like that stuff
- 2:37Speaker 2: is quite old to us now, so like, where are
- 2:40Speaker 2: any in the next sort of stage.
- 2:43Speaker 1: So yeah, it's been really good.
- 2:45Speaker 2: But yeah, the reception to it has been fucking awesome,
- 2:49Speaker 2: Like we kind of were like taken back how well
- 2:53Speaker 2: received it's been. So yeah, we're really stoked on it.
- 2:58Speaker 4: There's only five tracks on the EP, so we're going
- 3:00Speaker 4: to run through them individually and you can tell us
- 3:02Speaker 4: a bit more about the song so people get to
- 3:04Speaker 4: know them.
- 3:04Speaker 3: So the first one is called seven.
- 3:07Speaker 2: YEP, so seven it's a short and sweet one. I
- 3:16Speaker 2: think we kind of because I had made the whole
- 3:19Speaker 2: idea of the like EP, I wanted it to kind
- 3:22Speaker 2: of flow, so I wanted the intro sort of like
- 3:26Speaker 2: the experimental intro that we did that was kind of
- 3:29Speaker 2: had like I don't know, like I've had a few
- 3:32Speaker 2: sort of variations of it, but like I had tried
- 3:35Speaker 2: to make something that was like I've taken a bit
- 3:42Speaker 2: of like inspiration from like Deeds of Flesh and having
- 3:45Speaker 2: like that actual flesh sound sort of like in the background,
- 3:49Speaker 2: and I don't know, I just wanted that to kind
- 3:50Speaker 2: of like lead up into like this big kind of.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Crescendo of like just brutality.
- 3:57Speaker 2: So that's kind of severed. It's it's short and sweet,
- 4:01Speaker 2: but I don't know, it packs a good punch. I
- 4:03Speaker 2: reckon it's it. We're usually open with it. It's a
- 4:06Speaker 2: good it's a good.
- 4:07Speaker 1: One, yeah, girl.
- 4:09Speaker 4: And next is the song you were talking about before,
- 4:11Speaker 4: Eyeballs to Entrails Love the.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Title, Yeah, So it's funny that song is actually like
- 4:20Speaker 2: sometimes when I'll introduce it, I'll be like, oh, like
- 4:22Speaker 2: it's a love song because.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I basically.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I don't know about like I don't know, like a girl,
- 4:29Speaker 2: like a couple, and they're kind of like I love
- 4:32Speaker 2: the whole like old horror movie trope of like lovers
- 4:35Speaker 2: laying murder type sort of thing, like e BacT In,
- 4:38Speaker 2: like the old style like type of thing.
- 4:40Speaker 1: So I wanted to have that kind of vibe in it.
- 4:43Speaker 2: But then like the girl is actually the one that
- 4:45Speaker 2: sort of like kills and eats the boyfriend.
- 4:49Speaker 1: So that was and the title.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I actually got the idea for the title for an
- 4:56Speaker 2: old Buffy the Vampires to like a comic. Yeah, so
- 5:01Speaker 2: like Spiked the Vampires talking to his like girlfriend and
- 5:05Speaker 2: she says like eyeballs to entrail my sweet and I
- 5:07Speaker 2: was like, that's hard, that's hard.
- 5:11Speaker 1: That's kind of story behind that.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Very nice.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Now I kind of really read my writing to Eli,
- 5:17Speaker 4: but I'm pretty sure the next one, I says, intravenous idolatry.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Yep, that's the one.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So this one so something that I've tried to, like,
- 5:28Speaker 2: particularly with the first with the demo, I kind of
- 5:32Speaker 2: so this Alga is like the first band that I've
- 5:35Speaker 2: ever done, so I kind of wanted I think I
- 5:38Speaker 2: was very like just sort of I was just kind
- 5:42Speaker 2: of fucking around meally with like songwriting and stuff, and
- 5:45Speaker 2: I kind of like, I love horror movie, so I
- 5:47Speaker 2: just sort of use that as a lot of my.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Inspiration for writing lyrics and stuff.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Particularly, I'm gonna challenge myself a little bit more and
- 5:57Speaker 2: I'm going to try and like actually basic it kind
- 6:00Speaker 2: of on I don't know, use using my life experiences
- 6:04Speaker 2: and stuff and just real life things covering drug addicts
- 6:09Speaker 2: and ALCOHOLO and I so I'm completely sober. I've been
- 6:13Speaker 2: so over for like six years almost, and so I
- 6:17Speaker 2: sort of talk about that a little bit, and it's it's.
- 6:19Speaker 1: A common theme in actually a lot of my lyrical
- 6:21Speaker 1: content because it's pretty it's a good.
- 6:25Speaker 2: One to draw from, I don't know, the real life
- 6:28Speaker 2: shit of like how rough that can be and sort
- 6:30Speaker 2: of like transfer into like a kind of theatrical.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Glory, like.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Visceral kind of songwriting lyrical content. So yeah, I don't know,
- 6:42Speaker 2: I mean walking around with that. So intravenous is about
- 6:45Speaker 2: that basically, just yeah, drug addiction pretty much.
- 6:51Speaker 3: What does idolatry mean? Is that a made up word.
- 6:54Speaker 3: I've never seen it before.
- 6:55Speaker 2: So basically like intravenous idolatry, it's basically like like a
- 7:00Speaker 2: like an idol, like a deity, like a god, so
- 7:04Speaker 2: like it.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Like how.
- 7:07Speaker 2: The wider scheme of things in that song is particularly
- 7:10Speaker 2: like how the pharmaceutical companies basically prey on individuals to
- 7:16Speaker 2: make money pretty much the whole just like yeah, like
- 7:21Speaker 2: them becoming somewhat of like a god for like the
- 7:25Speaker 2: sick individuals who are unfortunately dealing with drug addiction.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Yeah, col all right, then you got rotten or another
- 7:32Speaker 4: great great title.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, hm hmm rotten. It's funny because, like I the song,
- 7:43Speaker 2: like I've mentioned before, the songs are kind of like
- 7:46Speaker 2: had been written sort of all over the place, So
- 7:48Speaker 2: this one is a bit of an older track. I
- 7:51Speaker 2: think I probably wrote this one mm, God, I don't know,
- 7:57Speaker 2: probably two and a half years ago, and we've been
- 8:00Speaker 2: t like trialing it at shows for quite some time
- 8:05Speaker 2: and just tweaking it along the way before we had
- 8:07Speaker 2: recorded it. But yeah, it's that one for me was
- 8:11Speaker 2: just kind of like just your standing kind of horror gore,
- 8:17Speaker 2: nothing real, nothing real, yeah, not pretty, just.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Classic kind of death metal lyrics and yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Very cool. And then it finishures up with sadistic enlightenment.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Yeah, this one, God, how did I describe it? I
- 8:39Speaker 2: don't know, if you know, like the movies like like
- 8:43Speaker 2: I Spit on Your Grave and stuff, they're like old
- 8:45Speaker 2: kind of Yeah, so like it's basically like a revenge,
- 8:48Speaker 2: like a female revenge.
- 8:51Speaker 1: That whole gist of the movie.
- 8:54Speaker 2: In a song, I tried to like transfer contents us. Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 2: that's all that one's about. I'm like a few people
- 9:00Speaker 2: were like ship that those lyrics are hectic, but I
- 9:05Speaker 2: love I love playing that song and like, you know, uh,
- 9:08Speaker 2: it's god, it's I don't know, it's got it's merit
- 9:11Speaker 2: in my life and stuff. So I love to play,
- 9:14Speaker 2: like playing playing those songs, in particular the songs that
- 9:16Speaker 2: have a bit more.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Meaning.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I guess I can draw from a lot of that,
- 9:22Speaker 2: So I enjoy to play them because I kind of
- 9:25Speaker 2: mean what I say, So there's more of a yeah,
- 9:29Speaker 2: like there's there's I feel like you can feel it
- 9:31Speaker 2: a bit more, you know what I mean. So those
- 9:32Speaker 2: ones are really fun to play.
- 9:33Speaker 4: So try not to make eye contact with you when
- 9:35Speaker 4: you're singing those songs, and people won't take offense.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Your music is the unique branding of old school death
- 9:46Speaker 5: metal with hardcore. So when when is there in the
- 9:49Speaker 5: writing development process? I guess, like, how do you how
- 9:52Speaker 5: do you get the balance between those genres to make
- 9:54Speaker 5: it sound good?
- 9:56Speaker 2: M I think we're basically like so four particularly for
- 10:04Speaker 2: like for stages, we kind of wrote it a bit
- 10:07Speaker 2: miss like mishmashy, like it was a bit all over
- 10:10Speaker 2: the place like we'd have one of the boys writing
- 10:13Speaker 2: it and like tabbing out like doing like a little
- 10:15Speaker 2: demo thing and sending it to us, and then we
- 10:17Speaker 2: would kind of go back and forth that way. Whereas
- 10:20Speaker 2: the next stuff that we're writing, it's very much like
- 10:22Speaker 2: we are writing all in the same room. We wanted
- 10:25Speaker 2: to really try that, and I think because like the
- 10:27Speaker 2: lineup that we've got now we're like super tight, so
- 10:30Speaker 2: like I think it's like we really mesh well together.
- 10:33Speaker 2: So we were like, let's just write it together. Let's
- 10:36Speaker 2: see how we go writing it all together. So I
- 10:37Speaker 2: think a lot of a lot of the it's basically
- 10:41Speaker 2: we just go, oh, like here's here's a reference of
- 10:45Speaker 2: a song. Yeah, let's try and let's do something like that.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Let's change it up. Let's put like a bit of
- 10:50Speaker 2: like a breakdown in there or like a little two
- 10:52Speaker 2: steppy bit like but then like just make it super brutal.
- 10:55Speaker 1: With like blast beats and stuff.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Like.
- 10:57Speaker 2: It's basically just like yeah, that's hard, or like nah,
- 11:00Speaker 2: that's not hard.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So what can people.
- 11:07Speaker 4: Expect from an Algam Mortis live show when they come.
- 11:09Speaker 6: To see you dexpersonic run Us through a typical show?
- 11:11Speaker 6: If there is one, well probably I don't know that
- 11:18Speaker 6: they're they're different. I think I think one thing that
- 11:21Speaker 6: we try to always provide is like good high energy from.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Us on the stage, and I think like I want to,
- 11:32Speaker 2: like we all want to put on a good show,
- 11:35Speaker 2: and I think.
- 11:35Speaker 1: That encourages the crowd to.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Bring more energy on their end too, because it's like
- 11:42Speaker 2: I don't want it to feel like like a segregated thing,
- 11:46Speaker 2: Like I want us to all feel like we're having
- 11:48Speaker 2: the moment, you know what I mean, Like we're all
- 11:51Speaker 2: doing it together. And that's something that like because I
- 11:54Speaker 2: grew up going to hardcore shows, so that's always been
- 11:56Speaker 2: something that like I shouldn't the crowd participation or something
- 12:09Speaker 2: to definitely like in my late teenage years, like it
- 12:11Speaker 2: sort of felt like us and them, and that's something
- 12:14Speaker 2: that I kind of wanted.
- 12:15Speaker 1: To bridge a little bit.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Like I think there definitely has been bands that have
- 12:18Speaker 2: done that in the past, like especially like I love
- 12:20Speaker 2: a lot of New York death metal stuff, so like
- 12:22Speaker 2: that sort of like hardcore infused death metal like has
- 12:28Speaker 2: definitely done it before. But I just I want that, like, oh,
- 12:32Speaker 2: we're going to an Alba show, like it's going to
- 12:34Speaker 2: be crazy, Like I love that vibe.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But that's something.
- 12:38Speaker 2: That yeah, like I always had people coming up to
- 12:41Speaker 2: us afterwards in the Boys do too, but like just
- 12:43Speaker 2: being like that's crazy and like a lot of people
- 12:45Speaker 2: have been like I did not expect that. I'd never
- 12:47Speaker 2: heard of you guys. Like just the energy. That's something
- 12:50Speaker 2: that I think, like we're all really like as we've
- 12:54Speaker 2: gone on, I think something that we really like pride
- 12:56Speaker 2: ourselves on, Like we like bringing it whether there's five
- 13:00Speaker 2: people at the venue or five hundred, that high energy.
- 13:05Speaker 1: We want people to feel like, yeah, you're here with.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Us, I see you, like this is we're doing this
- 13:10Speaker 2: and it's fucking crazy and like let's just yeah, let's
- 13:14Speaker 2: just fucking go off.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So that's yeah, that's the typical album show I think.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Thanks right see everyone, Thanks for your time today. It's
- 13:21Speaker 3: good to finally catch up.
- 13:23Speaker 1: You'll.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Alga Mortis will be at an Necrosonic Festival at the
- 13:26Speaker 4: Mansfield Tavern in Brisbane on August of thirty first with
- 13:29Speaker 4: a heap of others.

- 13:34Speaker 4: More So August thirty first means with Tavin Brisbane I'll
- 13:38Speaker 4: see you there.
