- 0:02Speaker 1: New Met's third Basement Bobachhet with us on foul Tiritory.
- 0:05Speaker 1: How is that sounding? And is everything what you thought
- 0:08Speaker 1: it would be here?
- 0:09Speaker 2: How you doing?
- 0:09Speaker 3: Bo? Hey, what's up guys? Thanks for having me. Yeah,
- 0:13Speaker 3: it sounds good. I mean it's definitely a new experience,
- 0:16Speaker 3: you know, a new challenge, but taking a head on
- 0:19Speaker 3: and trying to get the best.
- 0:20Speaker 4: That can be.
- 0:21Speaker 2: How's third base? Is it weird?
- 0:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a little weird. It's a little weird. I mean,
- 0:25Speaker 3: practice is good in the game. He's you know, I'm
- 0:27Speaker 3: trying to get the point where just letting my athleticism
- 0:30Speaker 3: take over, and you know, I mean at the end
- 0:33Speaker 3: of the day, you just got to catch small throat
- 0:34Speaker 3: at first. But you played different position, you start thinking
- 0:37Speaker 3: of like different ways to make it and things like that,
- 0:39Speaker 3: and so those are the kind of things I'm working.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Through different angles.
- 0:42Speaker 5: And how about you made one throw that was like
- 0:44Speaker 5: way back there and you threw it off line like
- 0:46Speaker 5: I've seen every other third basement in the world do,
- 0:48Speaker 5: and the people.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Are like, this isn't gonna go well, Like, dude, give
- 0:51Speaker 2: him a break. It's spring training.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I've been making that playing practice
- 0:55Speaker 3: and then I get the one in the game throw
- 0:57Speaker 3: it a little offline, But I mean, I don't know.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I understand that I'm under a microscope, you know, new position,
- 1:04Speaker 3: big market, the contract and everything like that. So I'm
- 1:08Speaker 3: just trying to take it day by day and get better.
- 1:10Speaker 6: What's the toughest part about making a transition Because I've
- 1:13Speaker 6: asked different shortstops that when you sign, I've asked different
- 1:17Speaker 6: shortstops that have like made that transition, dudes that are athletic,
- 1:21Speaker 6: and it's like they all had different answers.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think just like finding what mentality
- 1:30Speaker 3: works for you over there too. It's just different. You know,
- 1:32Speaker 3: like the hot smashes are a thing, choppers are more
- 1:36Speaker 3: of a thing. So you kind of got to get
- 1:37Speaker 3: in the right mindset. But I think probably seeing the
- 1:42Speaker 3: ball off the bat is a lot different. At shortstop
- 1:45Speaker 3: you can kind of see everything in front of you.
- 1:48Speaker 3: At third it's almost like you can't really look at
- 1:50Speaker 3: the hitter. So that's been an adjustment for me.
- 1:53Speaker 6: All Right, So are you going to become a unit?
- 1:55Speaker 6: Cause if I'm a shortstop my entire life, I'm super athletic,
- 1:58Speaker 6: like just moving a look how cool I am. Now
- 2:01Speaker 6: I'm at third base, are you doing more like bicep curls?
- 2:05Speaker 6: Like eating everything? Put twenty pounds on and hit forty
- 2:08Speaker 6: five bingers this year?
- 2:11Speaker 3: Now, forty five dingers is never a goal of mine.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I mean, if I believe that, if I'm in the
- 2:17Speaker 3: right mind frame and having consistent at bats, then you know,
- 2:21Speaker 3: you take care of mistakes and you hit homers. But yeah, no,
- 2:25Speaker 3: I'm not looking to get bigger. If anything, I'm trying
- 2:27Speaker 3: to get more athletic. I feel like, you know, I
- 2:29Speaker 3: can get back to kind of the athleticism I had
- 2:32Speaker 3: when I was a younger kid. And yeah, that's kind
- 2:35Speaker 3: of where I want to get to.
- 2:37Speaker 2: What's it like for your dad?
- 2:38Speaker 5: Obviously everyone knows your dad is Dante and he was
- 2:40Speaker 5: a hell of a hitter, but he teaches a little
- 2:42Speaker 5: different than like a lot of guys. So is that
- 2:44Speaker 5: a struggle when you step into the cage and everyone's like, oh,
- 2:47Speaker 5: lift and your dad's like, no, we don't hit like that.
- 2:51Speaker 3: No. I'm lucky enough to have had some pretty good
- 2:54Speaker 3: success very quickly in my career where people didn't didn't
- 2:58Speaker 3: mess with me. I would say that, Uh, the thing
- 3:01Speaker 3: that people would talk to me about was more like
- 3:04Speaker 3: my load and stuff. I mean, I I just have
- 3:07Speaker 3: a flexible torso so I get in different spots than
- 3:10Speaker 3: most people. But yeah, like I've had people try and
- 3:13Speaker 3: coach that out of me, which that's been a little
- 3:16Speaker 3: bit of a challenge for me. But overall, I've been
- 3:18Speaker 3: lucky enough to be left alone.
- 3:19Speaker 2: All right, have you gotten over the World Series yet?
- 3:21Speaker 2: I know you're on a new team. I mean you
- 3:23Speaker 2: guys were this like this close to winning. Yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I mean I would say I have no choice but
- 3:30Speaker 3: to be over it. You know, like I got a
- 3:32Speaker 3: new season, I'm with a new team, and I got
- 3:34Speaker 3: to turn the page and you know, be in the
- 3:37Speaker 3: present now. But yeah, definitely that was you know, you
- 3:40Speaker 3: dream winning World so on one leg.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I listen. I was like, I wouldn't play them,
- 3:44Speaker 2: but you played so he too.
- 3:47Speaker 3: By the way, I saw what you said next to
- 3:49Speaker 3: a J must not watch me hit.
- 3:54Speaker 2: That's fair, that's fair.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Yeah, but no, it was definitely, Yeah, make tough one.
- 4:01Speaker 6: What what percentage were you at? Everybody, what what percentage
- 4:05Speaker 6: were you playing at? Because everybody, like AJ does TV stuff,
- 4:08Speaker 6: is like, oh, you know it's probably this or it's that.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Where where would you say you were at during the
- 4:13Speaker 2: World Series.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Hitting? I was totally fine. I had no issues hitting
- 4:21Speaker 3: everything else. I don't know if I'm gonna give a
- 4:22Speaker 3: percentage on it, but I wasn't in a good place
- 4:25Speaker 3: for sure. But I'm feeling good now, so you know
- 4:28Speaker 3: that's all that matters.
- 4:30Speaker 6: All Right, You're gonna have to go and play Philly
- 4:32Speaker 6: either six or seven times this year. What do you
- 4:34Speaker 6: think your reception is going to be like when you
- 4:36Speaker 6: go there?
- 4:39Speaker 3: If I know Philly fans, probably not the best. But
- 4:42Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know. I've never been I've never
- 4:45Speaker 3: been booed by an opposing crowd like that.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So do you need advice. If you need advice, let
- 4:50Speaker 2: me know.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Okay, I got that.
- 4:52Speaker 7: I got I look forward to it, man, I look
- 4:55Speaker 7: forward to that's you know, that's in my opinion, that's
- 5:00Speaker 7: you know, that's something actually pretty cool to experience.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I look forward to.
- 5:04Speaker 5: Just say this when you come when they ask you
- 5:05Speaker 5: about just say, hey, I can't hear him. I was
- 5:06Speaker 5: standing on my wallet and they were so far below
- 5:08Speaker 5: me that I couldn't hear that. A low down there. Listen,
- 5:13Speaker 5: Thanks bo we love you. We appreciate you coming all
- 5:15Speaker 5: with us. I've known this guy and he didn't even
- 5:17Speaker 5: remember this since he was like in ninth grade. He
- 5:20Speaker 5: tried to come to the first Academy and we didn't
- 5:22Speaker 5: want him. We said he wasn't good enough, so he
- 5:24Speaker 5: went to a different school. No, I'm just kidding. We
- 5:25Speaker 5: really wanted him. But I met him. I love him.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I was just guy the best, and no, I just
- 5:31Speaker 5: wanted the best for you. So when I said those
- 5:32Speaker 5: things about the World Series, I just wanted you to
- 5:34Speaker 5: be healthy. You get this contract. I didn't know you're
- 5:37Speaker 5: enough and then but I don't know.
- 5:39Speaker 2: But thanks for joining us. We really appreciate it.
- 5:41Speaker 1: We're chatting now with Sean and Iyah of the New
- 5:43Speaker 1: York match. Seawan, it's great to see you. How's camp
- 5:45Speaker 1: going for you and really for the entire rotation, what
- 5:48Speaker 1: is it looking like?
- 5:50Speaker 8: Yeah, things are going great, you know a little different
- 5:54Speaker 8: than last year. Healthy, you know, coming to camp healthy
- 5:58Speaker 8: and I feel good and a lot of I vps
- 6:01Speaker 8: and I think I'll get into a game on Friday
- 6:04Speaker 8: and you'll go from there. But yeah, I think just
- 6:07Speaker 8: watching everyone pitch has been really fun. Uh, you know,
- 6:11Speaker 8: got some arms out there, and yeah it's been it's
- 6:14Speaker 8: been really good so far.
- 6:15Speaker 5: What did you change this year? Last year or two
- 6:17Speaker 5: years ago you kind of went to the Chris Sale.
- 6:19Speaker 5: So are you trying So are you gonna go like
- 6:20Speaker 5: Kent to Kolbe this year like Lefty's side arm.
- 6:23Speaker 8: I don't think we're going I think we're going to
- 6:25Speaker 8: the opposite. So, oh, you're going up, You're going more up. Yeah,
- 6:27Speaker 8: I'm not going to be here.
- 6:29Speaker 5: But somewhere in the in the middle, are you still
- 6:32Speaker 5: doing the crossfire?
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah, until the higher angle. Yeah, just refining it a
- 6:37Speaker 2: little bit.
- 6:37Speaker 8: Okay, So I think last year I was doing a
- 6:40Speaker 8: little too much, like get a little too far down
- 6:42Speaker 8: and crossfier, trying.
- 6:43Speaker 2: To do all that, and yeah, it just wasn't wasn't.
- 6:46Speaker 5: That's one of the craziest things I've ever seen for
- 6:48Speaker 5: people that don't know. I'm sure you know, Scott and
- 6:50Speaker 5: Eric know, but you went like one start and we're like,
- 6:54Speaker 5: you know what, screw this, I'm just gonna start throwing
- 6:56Speaker 5: like Chris Sale. And you did it and you were
- 6:57Speaker 5: super successful.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:59Speaker 5: To me, that's one of the most wild things, wildest
- 7:01Speaker 5: things I've ever heard in my life.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, sometimes you just gotta I just gotta
- 7:05Speaker 2: try it out see what happens.
- 7:07Speaker 8: And I'm a big field guy, so it feels good,
- 7:09Speaker 8: and you know, it just gives me confidence and then
- 7:11Speaker 8: just like a snowball effect after that, you know. So, yeah,
- 7:14Speaker 8: that was that was one of those things that felt
- 7:16Speaker 8: good and then I just ran with it. So yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 8: if you ever hear a big leaguer say that, that
- 7:21Speaker 8: just means they're supremely talented and much better than everybody
- 7:24Speaker 8: else when they're like, oh, I'll just try this and
- 7:27Speaker 8: then go ahead and have like a cy young second
- 7:29Speaker 8: half of the season. But as a whole, asked or
- 7:33Speaker 8: Scott asked about the group as a whole, how many
- 7:36Speaker 8: conversations were had since the end of last year for
- 7:41Speaker 8: you guys as a pitching staff, the starting rotation about
- 7:44Speaker 8: going deeper into games, about the shortfalls that you guys
- 7:48Speaker 8: had as a group last year.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean.
- 7:51Speaker 8: That's uh, that's definitely a like a big point of
- 7:58Speaker 8: the season. Right like last year we started off extremely
- 8:02Speaker 8: well and then you.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Know, toward the end of the season, you know it.
- 8:06Speaker 8: Wasn't and yeah, it's it's no uh, no secret or
- 8:11Speaker 8: anything like that.
- 8:12Speaker 2: That's definitely.
- 8:14Speaker 8: You know, when when the starting pitchers are going deep
- 8:15Speaker 8: into games, Uh, they're doing their job, taking pressure off
- 8:19Speaker 8: the bullpen, you know, and let our letting our offense
- 8:22Speaker 8: work and do do his thing. You know, I think
- 8:25Speaker 8: that's our success. And you know, it definitely starts with us,
- 8:27Speaker 8: uh setting the tone and doing all that and uh,
- 8:30Speaker 8: yeah last year, you know, we we didn't do that
- 8:33Speaker 8: at the end, and it's definitely, uh, you know, it
- 8:36Speaker 8: was frustrating how things ended. But yeah, I think everyone
- 8:40Speaker 8: that was on the team last year going to the season,
- 8:42Speaker 8: you know, we kind of kind of know that.
- 8:44Speaker 2: And yeah, I think everyone you know, did good jobs
- 8:46Speaker 2: this offseason. And yeah, I was just going out there
- 8:49Speaker 2: and doing it.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Hey, Sean, you're a veteran guy, been in the game
- 8:52Speaker 1: for a minute. It felt like last year, at least
- 8:54Speaker 1: for us as a show, we're covering your team and
- 8:56Speaker 1: we're like, hey, there's some concern about the starting staff,
- 8:59Speaker 1: there's some injuries up right, and it's just like you mentioned,
- 9:02Speaker 1: it was a great start and then things started to unravel.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Did it bother you and did you feel like it
- 9:07Speaker 1: was overblown when eventually the coverage turned to oh well, clubhouse,
- 9:12Speaker 1: So that's why the team didn't perform. You know, and
- 9:15Speaker 1: you've been around the block with some teams, like do
- 9:18Speaker 1: you really look around and say, oh, well, I guess
- 9:21Speaker 1: everyone wasn't best friends at all times and doing you know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: the the Jose Glaciers sing along and the whole thing,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and that's why we didn't make it. So what was
- 9:30Speaker 1: your take.
- 9:30Speaker 3: On all of that?
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, yeah, you've been around.
- 9:36Speaker 8: You're not you're not best friends with every single one
- 9:40Speaker 8: of your teammates and that's okay, you know, it's it's
- 9:43Speaker 8: not always like that, even in twenty twenty four. You know,
- 9:46Speaker 8: we're not now all of us are best friends with
- 9:48Speaker 8: each other. But the excuse me, that doesn't mean you
- 9:53Speaker 8: can't be a good team, right, And you know, things
- 9:59Speaker 8: were very frustrating last year, and I take you know,
- 10:02Speaker 8: a huge part of that. You know, it was definitely
- 10:04Speaker 8: a huge part and the reason why you know, the
- 10:07Speaker 8: Mets didn't perform well, obviously being injured at the beginning
- 10:11Speaker 8: and then you know how performed at the end. You know,
- 10:14Speaker 8: just wasn't That's not how successful teams win. And yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 8: it's you know, it's different coverage, different, you know, new stuff,
- 10:25Speaker 8: but you know, at.
- 10:25Speaker 2: The end of the day, we just weren't performing.
- 10:27Speaker 8: And I don't think I had anything to do with
- 10:29Speaker 8: you know, the clubhouse vibes or anything like that, you know,
- 10:32Speaker 8: I don't. I don't think that was the main reason
- 10:36Speaker 8: why we were like not performing as well as as
- 10:39Speaker 8: we could have.
- 10:41Speaker 2: It just happened to be like that. Listen.
- 10:42Speaker 5: I've been on good teams that didn't get along, and
- 10:45Speaker 5: I've been on bad teams it got along great.
- 10:46Speaker 2: So when you win, everything is fine. If you win.
- 10:49Speaker 2: But you guys didn't have any skits last year.
- 10:52Speaker 5: You didn't have the OMG, you didn't have grims, you
- 10:54Speaker 5: didn't have the pumpkin.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you didn't have all that stuff. You were just
- 10:57Speaker 2: kind of van Ella made. Do you guys need some
- 10:59Speaker 2: skits this year?
- 11:00Speaker 5: If you talked to to Bo and Simeon and some
- 11:02Speaker 5: of the new guys and said, man, we.
- 11:04Speaker 8: Need some skits y'all, maybe I haven't brought that up yet,
- 11:07Speaker 8: but now that you bring that up, yeah, maybe we'll
- 11:10Speaker 8: uh want to do that.
- 11:11Speaker 5: You know, you guys had the EyeBlack with the numbers,
- 11:13Speaker 5: you had all that, you had all these things though.
- 11:14Speaker 8: We were you know, we did all the things. So yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 8: maybe maybe that's one reason why.
- 11:19Speaker 5: All right, well, I mean you've got to start now
- 11:21Speaker 5: at spring train. You got to start practicing your skits. Yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 5: maybe the day we'll start it up.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:27Speaker 6: No, if you if you throw strikes and strike people out,
- 11:29Speaker 6: that's that's the best skit that you can that you
- 11:31Speaker 6: can ever have. Twenty twenty four, you guys had your
- 11:35Speaker 6: starting rotation. You guys stepped up. You had, you know,
- 11:38Speaker 6: that career year platform year for you to get that
- 11:41Speaker 6: nice free agent contract. Jeremy Hefner was your pitching coach.
- 11:44Speaker 6: Now you have a new pitching coach and Justin Willard,
- 11:47Speaker 6: am I correct on that? Yes, he has to learn
- 11:51Speaker 6: this staff, he has to learn you guys, how hard
- 11:55Speaker 6: is that as the pitching coach? Because in other sports,
- 11:58Speaker 6: like in football, if you have a brand new offense,
- 12:00Speaker 6: some coordinator, defensive coordinator like that's talked about a lot,
- 12:04Speaker 6: how hard is that for you? And how hard obviously
- 12:08Speaker 6: we'd have to ask him, but how how easy has
- 12:11Speaker 6: this transition been for him? Coming in for somebody? And
- 12:14Speaker 6: Jeremy Heffner, who to me that you guys had one
- 12:17Speaker 6: blip in the radar in the last two years and
- 12:20Speaker 6: you know he was gone.
- 12:22Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I think as a as a pitching coach,
- 12:26Speaker 8: like you said, it's it's not an easy transition. But
- 12:30Speaker 8: I think what he's been doing, what he's been showing
- 12:32Speaker 8: in spring training has been you know, nothing short of
- 12:36Speaker 8: incredible so far. You know, it seems like he's gone
- 12:39Speaker 8: out of his way to you know, get to know guys,
- 12:42Speaker 8: get to know the routines, get to know you know,
- 12:44Speaker 8: what you know, makes makes them click, makes them work,
- 12:48Speaker 8: and you know, as far as like what he's able
- 12:51Speaker 8: to do, and right now in this moment, I think
- 12:54Speaker 8: he's doing a you know, a very very good job.
- 12:57Speaker 8: Seems like every day, every time you talk to him,
- 13:00Speaker 8: every day he's prepared. You know, if you have any
- 13:03Speaker 8: any sort of questions, you know, if he doesn't, you know,
- 13:05Speaker 8: he'll point you in the right direction. Stuff like that,
- 13:08Speaker 8: which you know is kind of like the baseline. But
- 13:11Speaker 8: you know, spring training, you know, it's a little bit
- 13:13Speaker 8: different kind of like routines and stuff like that as
- 13:17Speaker 8: you would in season. So you know, ultimately, you know,
- 13:20Speaker 8: you won't won't know until we get there. But as
- 13:23Speaker 8: far as you know, I'm conservaive spring training and you know,
- 13:26Speaker 8: all the guys has got to go.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Jog.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I think he's been doing a good job. Sean, you
- 13:30Speaker 2: know you have to go.
- 13:30Speaker 5: But since you didn't win the Good Guy Award last year,
- 13:33Speaker 5: Clay Homes, your teammates stole it from you from the
- 13:35Speaker 5: New York writers, were you trying to win it back?
- 13:38Speaker 5: When you went and saw Indiana State play against Miami
- 13:40Speaker 5: and you sat in a bullpen during the game.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Where do you talk about?
- 13:44Speaker 4: What?
- 13:44Speaker 5: What do you talk about with a college kid when
- 13:46Speaker 5: you're sitting in the bullpen, You're you're just like hanging out,
- 13:49Speaker 5: Like I mean, look at you, You're just like down
- 13:51Speaker 5: there hanging out. You couldn't get your j couldn't get
- 13:54Speaker 5: you a pullover to wear, you had to go street clothes.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Well I didn't.
- 13:59Speaker 8: I mean I planned to go out there, like I
- 14:00Speaker 8: knew they were going to be down there in Miami,
- 14:03Speaker 8: and I'd seen Indian State played and since I left,
- 14:05Speaker 8: so it's been you know, twelve thirteen years, and this
- 14:08Speaker 8: is as closest they they'd been to anywhere I played.
- 14:11Speaker 8: So I was like, you know what, I gotta gotta
- 14:13Speaker 8: make the drive. Let's go see the boys support him,
- 14:15Speaker 8: And yeah, you know, I just sat there and I
- 14:18Speaker 8: got a.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Little bored just sitting there like watching it.
- 14:22Speaker 8: I was like, I have nobody to talk to, and
- 14:24Speaker 8: so I was like, you know what, I'm just gussing
- 14:25Speaker 8: if I can get down into the into the bullpen,
- 14:28Speaker 8: and you know, I asked the coaches and they were
- 14:30Speaker 8: totally cool with it.
- 14:31Speaker 2: So I was like, all right, any of them know
- 14:33Speaker 2: who you were? Yeah, as soon as I walked down there,
- 14:36Speaker 2: not the coach, you know, the players.
- 14:37Speaker 8: Okay, down in the bullpen, they saw me like so yeah,
- 14:42Speaker 8: I sat down there, and you know, they you know,
- 14:44Speaker 8: had some great questions. I just talked about, like in
- 14:46Speaker 8: Indiana State baseball, you know.
- 14:50Speaker 2: A range of topics as you do in the bullpen.
- 14:52Speaker 2: And yeah, it was awesome.
- 14:53Speaker 8: I I wasn't trying to be like viral or anything
- 14:57Speaker 8: like that. It just, I don't know, it just happened
- 14:59Speaker 8: to be and it was cool to kind of just
- 15:01Speaker 8: relive that, you know, the college called days in college moments,
- 15:05Speaker 8: and yeah, these young guns have a different vocabulary than
- 15:09Speaker 8: I do.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yes, I'm now that I'm now the old guy that's
- 15:15Speaker 2: a screaming at the cloud. I guess so, but no,
- 15:18Speaker 2: it's it was.
- 15:18Speaker 4: It was awesome.
- 15:19Speaker 1: It was a yeah, cool organic viral moment, so it
- 15:22Speaker 1: was fun to watch. Well, it was great to see
- 15:24Speaker 1: you man, great to catch up. We'll get you right
- 15:25Speaker 1: to your meeting. I appreciate you. We'll talk to you
- 15:27Speaker 1: during the year.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Sounds good. Thanks so much, guys.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Matt's outfielder Carson Bene up next in Port Saint Lucy. Carson,
- 15:41Speaker 1: great to have you on the show. Has camp for you, man.
- 15:44Speaker 1: It's got to be a lot of fun so far.
- 15:45Speaker 9: Right, definitely, you know, meeting all the guys, getting around
- 15:49Speaker 9: new faces, just being around everybody again. It's just really
- 15:53Speaker 9: fun and looking forward to see what this season hasn't sotore.
- 15:57Speaker 2: For me, dude, you were hitting bombs out there.
- 15:58Speaker 5: I was watching your beef even Simmy and was comment
- 16:01Speaker 5: commenting on your VP. I told Marcus, I'm like, wait
- 16:04Speaker 5: till he's our age though, because you lose the excitement
- 16:07Speaker 5: of being in BP every day. But yeah, I mean,
- 16:11Speaker 5: tell me about just meeting these guys meeting you know, Sodo,
- 16:15Speaker 5: I know is not here, but he was here earlier,
- 16:17Speaker 5: right Marcus, Simmy and Francisco Lindor. When you walk into
- 16:20Speaker 5: the clubhouse and you see these guys what's that feeling like?
- 16:23Speaker 9: Well, I mean, at first it was kind of a
- 16:25Speaker 9: surreal you know, like watching all these guys as I'm
- 16:28Speaker 9: in college or growing up and then just being in
- 16:31Speaker 9: the same clubhouse as them is pretty surreal. But I
- 16:35Speaker 9: think as time went on, it's kind of feeling more
- 16:37Speaker 9: and more normal, getting more and more comfortable.
- 16:39Speaker 4: But Soto, he's been all the guys have been great.
- 16:43Speaker 9: They've all taken me under their shoulder and just let
- 16:47Speaker 9: me know right I'm wrong, what to do, what not
- 16:49Speaker 9: to do, And I'm really blessed to have that.
- 16:52Speaker 6: All Right, First of all, you never lose the joy
- 16:54Speaker 6: for BP, only AJ lost a joy for it. And
- 16:57Speaker 6: how do you stay fix that, fix that ice like that?
- 17:01Speaker 6: How do you stay comfortable but also stay yourself because
- 17:06Speaker 6: sometimes when guys come into Big League camp, it's like, oh, crap,
- 17:09Speaker 6: is this guy gonna make fun of me for this?
- 17:11Speaker 6: Or is this guy gonna like how do you? How
- 17:14Speaker 6: do you keep that balance?
- 17:17Speaker 9: You know, I came into the camp, you know, just
- 17:20Speaker 9: trying to be the best version of myself that I
- 17:22Speaker 9: can be, and in my meeting, they just told me.
- 17:24Speaker 4: To be myself.
- 17:25Speaker 9: So I feel like that just helped me get more
- 17:27Speaker 9: comfortable with it, and you know, I feel like being
- 17:30Speaker 9: myself is the best way to go about my business,
- 17:34Speaker 9: not trying to be anything I'm not. So I feel
- 17:37Speaker 9: like with that, just being myself has always been one of.
- 17:42Speaker 2: My core values. Is that part of it the mustache and.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I just I just shaved a little bit so it's
- 17:46Speaker 4: pop a little more, but it looks good.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Hey, Carson, So the Mets did a lot this offseason, right,
- 17:55Speaker 1: a lot of shoppling, a lot of new additions. How
- 17:58Speaker 1: much did it mean to you that they kept a
- 18:00Speaker 1: lane open for an outfield spot for you to be
- 18:03Speaker 1: able to earn that, Because often with a prospect, even
- 18:06Speaker 1: a highly rated prospect that doesn't matter right, a team
- 18:08Speaker 1: will just still say, hey, they're gonna have to break
- 18:10Speaker 1: their way through. You're gonna have to do that. But
- 18:13Speaker 1: they put you in a position where it's not like, hey,
- 18:15Speaker 1: there's three guys that would be really difficult to suddenly sit.
- 18:19Speaker 1: There is a lane here for you to play every
- 18:21Speaker 1: day very soon.
- 18:24Speaker 9: You know, I feel the competition in right field is great.
- 18:29Speaker 4: Everyone's mashing right now.
- 18:30Speaker 9: So being able to compete with all those guys is
- 18:34Speaker 9: really special, and being able to learn from them and
- 18:38Speaker 9: see how they go about their business.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I think will help me tremendously.
- 18:41Speaker 5: You went to Oklahoma State Holidays, Josh is a coacher,
- 18:46Speaker 5: Matt is around there all the time. Then you had
- 18:49Speaker 5: Jackson and Ethan running around that place all the time.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Do you ever call it Jackson Ethan and be like, Hey,
- 18:54Speaker 5: I'm gonna well maybe Ethan, not Jackson. I'm gonna be
- 18:56Speaker 5: in the big league soon with y'all right into the holidays?
- 18:59Speaker 5: What did the Holidays do to help you get to
- 19:01Speaker 5: where you are now?
- 19:02Speaker 9: I'll talk to them every now and then, you know,
- 19:04Speaker 9: not to not like an everyday basis, but like in
- 19:08Speaker 9: the off season, just like being around then. I feel
- 19:11Speaker 9: like has helped me a lot. Especially Matt. He's a
- 19:13Speaker 9: great resource for me.
- 19:14Speaker 2: That wasn't a right fielder though he was, but he
- 19:17Speaker 2: wasn't he could hit, Yes, thank you, that's yes, That's
- 19:21Speaker 2: what I'm saying. But did did did? What do they do?
- 19:23Speaker 5: Because Matt Holiday knows how to hit right yeah, and
- 19:26Speaker 5: Josh Holiday is a great college coach. And then you
- 19:28Speaker 5: have the other two sons that obviously were the first
- 19:30Speaker 5: first round picks and you were a first round pick.
- 19:33Speaker 2: What did Matt say to you.
- 19:34Speaker 5: What was his advice that Matt said to you or
- 19:36Speaker 5: Josh said to you that said, hey, this will help
- 19:38Speaker 5: me now in my big ley career.
- 19:40Speaker 9: You know, I've just been hearing the same thing from
- 19:42Speaker 9: them over and over. Never change for yourself and you're
- 19:46Speaker 9: gonna be good.
- 19:48Speaker 6: What about what about some of the other guys that
- 19:50Speaker 6: have been in your shoes but just a few years ago.
- 19:54Speaker 6: Do you feel like you get more or do you
- 19:57Speaker 6: think you'll get more if you haven't yet? More advice
- 20:00Speaker 6: from like a Brett Baty, like a Mark Viento, so
- 20:03Speaker 6: I know he's go and play for WBC, but like
- 20:06Speaker 6: then like a Juan Sota who made it up to
- 20:08Speaker 6: the big leagues at nineteen and hasn't looked back since.
- 20:10Speaker 6: But like Brett Baty's had that up and down. Different
- 20:12Speaker 6: guys have had the up and down. Who do you
- 20:14Speaker 6: think you can get more good advice from? Because it's
- 20:18Speaker 6: more recent.
- 20:21Speaker 9: I feel like any of those guys are a great resource.
- 20:23Speaker 9: You know, they're all willing to talk about it, willing
- 20:26Speaker 9: to talk me through it. But you know, being able
- 20:30Speaker 9: to have guys like that who are willing to have
- 20:32Speaker 9: my back is just really special.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Hey, Carson, gonna kind of throw you a different kind
- 20:38Speaker 1: of question here. So one of the other top prospects
- 20:41Speaker 1: in the sport, Max Clark, like dropped a fly ball
- 20:44Speaker 1: the other day and then social media just goes crazy like, oh,
- 20:47Speaker 1: he has too many chains on. I don't know if
- 20:49Speaker 1: you caught that at all. I mean, you've got some
- 20:51Speaker 1: ice on now, do you think that's ridiculous? And people
- 20:54Speaker 1: are just trolling? And he spoke about it and kind
- 20:57Speaker 1: of backed it up like really, that's what we care
- 20:59Speaker 1: about here and said he's going to be him. And
- 21:02Speaker 1: we see tons of guys in the bigs with with chains,
- 21:05Speaker 1: all kinds of you know, ice and accessories that they
- 21:07Speaker 1: wear that relate to them and sometimes it's from a
- 21:10Speaker 1: family member, whatever it is. So just wanted to get
- 21:12Speaker 1: your take, you know, on that and if you caught that,
- 21:15Speaker 1: because it starts to get to a point where some
- 21:17Speaker 1: you know, people are just bullying online.
- 21:19Speaker 9: In my mind, yeah, I feel like he's probably got
- 21:24Speaker 9: He's got a lot of like social media attention, a
- 21:26Speaker 9: lot of followers, all that.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Since high school.
- 21:29Speaker 9: So I feel like he's been the same throughout his
- 21:31Speaker 9: whole like up and coming. As for chains, I don't care.
- 21:35Speaker 9: Where as many as you want.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I mean, your's just thick.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I like it. I just got her yesterday.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Hi.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Yeah, But where as many as you want, you know,
- 21:44Speaker 4: be yourself. That's that's what he's doing. All right.
- 21:48Speaker 6: You were picked in twenty twenty four. Last year you
- 21:51Speaker 6: played in hi A, Double A and Triple A. Are
- 21:55Speaker 6: any of your teammates from those levels in big league
- 21:59Speaker 6: camp with you? And if they're not, they're over on
- 22:01Speaker 6: the minor league side. Do you talk with them and
- 22:04Speaker 6: they like, hey, let's go out to dinner and you pay?
- 22:08Speaker 9: Oh no, not yet, not yet, but I definitely do
- 22:11Speaker 9: still talk to him.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Uh.
- 22:13Speaker 9: We got quite a big group of guys that I've
- 22:16Speaker 9: played with over the last year here in big league
- 22:19Speaker 9: camp and then quite a few more over on the
- 22:21Speaker 9: minor league side. But I still talk to everyone. Keep
- 22:24Speaker 9: good relationships, you know, they're all friends.
- 22:26Speaker 4: And special to me. Who are you living with, Nolan McClain.
- 22:30Speaker 2: He's not here, So you're living by yourself.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Living by myself.
- 22:34Speaker 2: You have to pay rent by yourself? Then no, you
- 22:36Speaker 2: got it? Oh you still split it?
- 22:37Speaker 4: He split it?
- 22:38Speaker 5: Oh wow, I was generous of them. Yeah, all right,
- 22:41Speaker 5: did Nolan know you pitched. Also, yeah, we went to
- 22:44Speaker 5: Oklahoma State together.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Oh you guys were there together. Oh okay, So do
- 22:47Speaker 2: you miss pitching?
- 22:49Speaker 4: I do. It was fun. I just like going out
- 22:51Speaker 4: there and competing.
- 22:52Speaker 9: But I also don't think my attention span could be
- 22:55Speaker 9: in the dugout for a few days at a time.
- 22:57Speaker 2: So you're a leaver.
- 22:58Speaker 9: So I like I like, well a little bit about
- 23:01Speaker 9: the little closer. And I started some games, but I
- 23:04Speaker 9: always hit in the games I pitched, so it's nice.
- 23:08Speaker 9: But like throwing and then like down for five days,
- 23:11Speaker 9: four or five days, I don't think that would be
- 23:14Speaker 9: for me.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you got to be in the one day.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Well, Nolan obviously has found himself pretty quickly here in
- 23:22Speaker 1: the big leagues. So I got a couple Nolan questions
- 23:25Speaker 1: for you. Let's start with this, How crazy is the rise?
- 23:28Speaker 4: Right?
- 23:28Speaker 1: You know, people talk about you, you work hard, you
- 23:30Speaker 1: do your thing, You've been able to follow what he's doing,
- 23:33Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden it's Mets shining off
- 23:37Speaker 1: season conversations about him being one of the top starters
- 23:39Speaker 1: in baseball already. Stuff wise, Boom World Baseball Classic might
- 23:43Speaker 1: pitch in the title game if they make it. So
- 23:45Speaker 1: what have you observed from the rise here from someone
- 23:49Speaker 1: who I think was kind of still figuring things out late? Bloomer,
- 23:52Speaker 1: He wasn't you know, all the rage at sixteen seventeen
- 23:55Speaker 1: years old?
- 23:56Speaker 4: Right?
- 23:56Speaker 1: Didn't you pick up pitching a little late too?
- 24:00Speaker 4: In college?
- 24:01Speaker 9: We always knew he had the grossest stuff on the staff,
- 24:04Speaker 9: so it was never a stuff issue.
- 24:06Speaker 4: But uh, I mean for him, I feel like it
- 24:09Speaker 4: all happened so fast.
- 24:10Speaker 9: Like I'm pretty sure last year he wasn't in big
- 24:13Speaker 9: league camp and then bang, he's up there making an impact.
- 24:17Speaker 9: So I feel like seeing that is just like how
- 24:20Speaker 9: fast your life can change.
- 24:23Speaker 4: Yeah he was pitching.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yeah, he was pitching and hitting, and then they're like,
- 24:27Speaker 1: all right, dude, you're you're too good on the mound.
- 24:29Speaker 1: You gotta just pitch right, last one here on him.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Give us one thing we got to know about him,
- 24:34Speaker 1: because we we we haven't you know, obviously, learned much
- 24:36Speaker 1: about you and him yet, but one thing, like it
- 24:39Speaker 1: could be funny roommate thing. Give us, like one quirk
- 24:42Speaker 1: does do the dishes like.
- 24:45Speaker 5: Clown.
- 24:46Speaker 9: His clown loves his video games, loves his jokes.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Are you a video game guy too? What do you
- 24:51Speaker 2: play Call of Duty?
- 24:52Speaker 4: Rocket League? Rocket League's like.
- 24:53Speaker 2: What is it? Rocket League? We drive around the car? Yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 2: the best?
- 24:59Speaker 4: Yeah, you made the game. I'm not bad.
- 25:05Speaker 2: You know that Rocket League? I don't know.
- 25:07Speaker 4: My buddy made.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I know Call of Duty I know, but I don't
- 25:11Speaker 2: know the Rocket League.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Yeah, rocket League? Just car soccer.
- 25:13Speaker 2: You know you play on teams?
- 25:15Speaker 4: Yeah, like two B two three three?
- 25:18Speaker 2: Can you play online? What's your gamer? Text?
- 25:20Speaker 5: For people out there will know? I don't say it
- 25:23Speaker 5: unless you want.
- 25:24Speaker 4: People to know, probably something like sea baby.
- 25:27Speaker 9: Okay, baby, I think I'm c baby.
- 25:31Speaker 2: What's your rank? G C Two's not good?
- 25:36Speaker 4: It's up there. It's not quite like at the top.
- 25:38Speaker 4: It's not, but it's up there.
- 25:40Speaker 6: He's not he's not consistently pinching the ball on the wall.
- 25:43Speaker 6: But I mean, I'm I'm gonna let you. I'm gonna
- 25:45Speaker 6: let you play in my in my stadiums if you
- 25:48Speaker 6: want to play.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Wow.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Okay, I don't even know what that means, but it
- 25:53Speaker 2: sounds fun.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Well, Carson, this was great, great getting to know you.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Appreciate the time man, good luck the rest of case.
- 25:59Speaker 2: The way.
- 26:00Speaker 5: He just picked up chess too, just picked up chess
- 26:02Speaker 5: he told me a week ago. So I said, stay
- 26:04Speaker 5: away from like Will Benson, Joey Vato. Stay away from
- 26:07Speaker 5: those guys. I'll take all your money.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Cars with soccer and chess. All good, Carson, thanks man,
- 26:13Speaker 1: great talking to you, Thank you you too.
- 26:15Speaker 4: Nice meeting you.
