- 0:11Hello, friends, It's Sean here. It's Tuesday.
- 0:15It is the 18th of November, and I am delighted to have your
- 0:19company on today, Mickey Mouse's birthday.
- 0:22Yes, it is today in 1928 that Mickey Mouse first debuted on
- 0:28the small screen in Steamboat Willie.
- 0:30So this is commonly known as Mickey Mouse's birthday.
- 0:33So happy birthday, Mickey Boy. Disney has come a long way since
- 0:38those early days of a whistling mouse steering about.
- 0:42But I will leave commentary of social behemoths aside as we are
- 0:47here not for that, but we are here to read God's Word.
- 0:51We're here to continue along this journey of Second
- 0:53Thessalonians to see what it is that Paul and Silas and Timothy
- 0:58are going to be saying to these Christians who are surrounded by
- 1:01people having a go at them, not happy with the changes that
- 1:04they're seeing in these new Christians and the way that
- 1:07they're choosing to live. So today we will see our authors
- 1:11encouraging them to stand firm. Stand firm in what they know to
- 1:14be true and how a faith in Christ leads them to live.
- 1:18Good advice for all of us. So let us read today Second
- 1:22Thessalonians chapter 2. Now, dear brothers and sisters,
- 1:36let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus
- 1:39Christ and how we will be gathered to meet Him.
- 1:43Don't be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that
- 1:46the day of the Lord has already begun.
- 1:49Don't believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual
- 1:52vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us.
- 1:57Don't be fooled by what they say, for that day will not come
- 2:00until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of
- 2:04lawlessness is revealed. The one who brings destruction,
- 2:08He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call God
- 2:13and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple
- 2:18of God, claiming that he himself is God.
- 2:21Don't you remember that I told you about all this when I was
- 2:24with you? And you know what is holding him
- 2:27back? For he can be revealed only when
- 2:30his time comes. For this lawlessness is already
- 2:34at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who
- 2:38is holding him back steps out of the way.
- 2:41Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus
- 2:46will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the
- 2:50splendour of his coming. This man will come to do the
- 2:54work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles.
- 2:59He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those in their
- 3:02way to destruction because they refuse to love and accept the
- 3:06truth that would save them. So God will cause them to be
- 3:10greatly deceived and they will believe these lies.
- 3:15Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than
- 3:19believing the truth. As for us, we can't help but
- 3:25thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters, loved by the Lord,
- 3:29we are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first
- 3:33to experience salvation, a salvation that came through the
- 3:36Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the
- 3:40truth. He called you to salvation when
- 3:43we told you the good news, and now you can share in the glory
- 3:48of our Lord Jesus Christ. With all these things in mind,
- 3:51dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on
- 3:57the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter.
- 4:02Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who
- 4:07loved us and by His grace gave us eternal comfort and a
- 4:11wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good
- 4:17thing you do and say. Lord Jesus, thank you for this
- 4:30encouraging text that describes this man of lawlessness who will
- 4:35push back against you and your rule, but that no matter what
- 4:39the world has to offer, no matter who the most powerful
- 4:42person is who will cause such disruption that you have already
- 4:47won that fight. That you are victorious and
- 4:51seated on the throne. And just with the breath from
- 4:54your mouth, that is enough to take out any opposition in front
- 4:59of you. So Lord, as we come against
- 5:02challenging situations that feel so difficult to get around, our
- 5:07Lord, remind us that you have the victory and that in your
- 5:12victory you hold us and you breathe your love and acceptance
- 5:18to us in our lives. So, Lord, we stand before you
- 5:24and pray that it is your roots that would grow down deep and
- 5:28strong through our feet so that we would stand firm no matter
- 5:32what it is that presents itself before us.
- 5:36Standing firm in You and the surefire knowledge of your
- 5:40victory. We love you, Jesus, and we rest
- 5:44in your embrace. And we pray this all in your
- 5:47name. Amen.
