- 0:10Welcome back to the Slippery Slope podcast.
- 0:13I'm Jay Fallon, obviously. So today's episode, what I want
- 0:19to talk about the story we're covering is it's just it's not
- 0:24just another headline to myself, it's about dysfunction inside
- 0:29Queensland's institutions. It's a story.
- 0:34It's a story I lived the Korean males reporting that the
- 0:37Queensland police union. Queensland Police Union is
- 0:40urging more than 60 seconded officers police officers to walk
- 0:45out of the Crime and Corruption Commission.
- 0:48Why? Because a Supreme Court
- 0:51challenged has raised the possibility that 20 years of the
- 0:56Triple C investigations may have been conducted by officers who
- 1:02weren't legally authorised to be there.
- 1:06And it's so I've got to talk about that not just not just as
- 1:11a commentator, obviously, but as someone who was one of those
- 1:14seconded officers. So what's happened?
- 1:18The the article reveals two major issues the Triple C has
- 1:22been disciplining seconded officers, seconded police
- 1:27officers under its own internal regime, not under the Queensland
- 1:32Service Administration Administration Act.
- 1:36The second issue, major issue, legal advice now suggests that
- 1:40seconded officers may not have been properly authorised under
- 1:46the Crime and Corruption Act, meaning their powers, their
- 1:51appointments and potentially their investigations could be
- 1:57invalid, potentially so. So this isn't this isn't, it's
- 2:03not just a, a paperwork error, this is a, it's a structural
- 2:07failure that that could undermine 2 decades of
- 2:12corruption investigations and the QPU, the Queensland Police
- 2:16Union knows it. That's why they're telling
- 2:20officers to get out now. So my experience inside the
- 2:25triple C OK, so here's how or here's where this story for me
- 2:30anyhow, it becomes, it becomes personal.
- 2:31I was a Queensland Police service officer.
- 2:34Just in case you don't know anything about me or this
- 2:37podcast, this my podcast, the Slippery Slope.
- 2:40So I was a Queensland Police Service officer and I was
- 2:43seconded to the Triple C to the Crime and Corruption Commission.
- 2:48I worked inside that organisation.
- 2:50I saw how it operated. I saw the culture, the pressure,
- 2:55the politics, the the internal contradictions.
- 3:01And I also saw how quickly you can be discarded when you don't
- 3:06beat the narrative. When Queensland police mandated
- 3:11the COVID vaccination, I made a personal personal decision not
- 3:16to take it. The triple C responded by
- 3:20terminating my secondment, even though the mandate came from
- 3:23QPS, not the triple C. Then QPS punished me again,
- 3:29standing me down and cutting off my pay.
- 3:31So we had two institutions, 2 punishments, one decision, and
- 3:38now years later we discover that the triple C, the Crime and
- 3:43Corruption Commission, may not have even had the legal
- 3:48authority, authority to second officers in the 1st place.
- 3:55You just let that sink in for a second.
- 3:58They were happy to remove me from a secondment that may not
- 4:02have been legally valid. They were happy to enforce
- 4:06discipline under a framework that may not have applied to me.
- 4:12And they were happy to punish me twice while operating under a
- 4:16system that is now being questioned in the Supreme Court.
- 4:21This is the hypocrisy. This is, this is the rot, the
- 4:26kind of rot that I've been talking about for several years
- 4:29now. So what this all reveals, I
- 4:33believe this reveals about the triple C and about QPS, the
- 4:37Queensland Police Service. This story exposes something
- 4:42I've been saying for years, if you've been following me.
- 4:46OK. Queensland's institutions are
- 4:48not built on truth. They are built on a facade.
- 4:54They are built on, like the good doctor said to me years ago,
- 4:56it's all about perception. It's all about perception, Jay.
- 5:01They're built on power, process, and self protection.
- 5:06That's that's all they're built on, not on truth.
- 5:09When when you're useful, they keep you.
- 5:13When you're inconvenient, they discard you.
- 5:16When you raise concerns, they ignore you.
- 5:19And when you stand on principle, they punish you because these
- 5:25institutions don't stand on principles.
- 5:29And now the very foundations of the triple CS operations, the
- 5:34legality of secondments, the validity of coercive powers, the
- 5:40disciplinary framework, their disciplinary framework are being
- 5:46challenged. This isn't an accident.
- 5:51It's the inevitable result of leadership that values
- 5:55compliance over integrity. So let's take a brief look at
- 6:01moral and spiritual the spiritual dimension to all this
- 6:05The Bible warns repeatedly about corrupt systems and leaders who
- 6:12twist justice. Isaiah 10 says woe to those who
- 6:17make unjust laws and to those who issue oppressive decrees.
- 6:24This is what happened during the mandate.
- 6:26Unjust laws throughout all of society and oppressive decrees
- 6:31going out with that oppressed the rights of all individuals,
- 6:37whether you agreed or not. That's, that's what we're seeing
- 6:41here, Institutions that demand obedience but don't follow their
- 6:46own legislation, leaders who enforce rules selectively and
- 6:51systems that punish the principled and protect the
- 6:55powerful. And why I say all that is
- 6:58because the Queensland government, they always say that
- 7:01they stand by and they stand for human rights, OK, with, if you
- 7:08work within the Queensland government and within that
- 7:10framework, you have to, you have to agree to stand by, to work
- 7:14within human rights framework. However, the Queensland
- 7:18government, QPS, the triple C, if something's too hard for
- 7:23them, OK, it becomes difficult to, to work within the human
- 7:28rights framework that they say they stand behind, OK.
- 7:32They, they just like the facade of saying it.
- 7:34If it becomes too difficult, then they will come up with a
- 7:37clause, they will come up with something that says, Oh well,
- 7:40OK, we stand by it. But right at this time we can't
- 7:43uphold human rights. So they always give themselves
- 7:46an out. And then that's why I say they,
- 7:49they demand obedience, but they don't follow the very
- 7:53legislation they say that they follow.
- 7:55They just have that facade so they can put up a plaque and say
- 7:59to the outside world, oh, look, we, we stand by this, we stand
- 8:02by this legislation. We stand by human rights, except
- 8:05for when it becomes too hard. But they demand that everyone
- 8:07else follows the law. Everyone else follows
- 8:10legislation. Everyone else follows what what
- 8:13they want you to follow. So the bigger question is this.
- 8:20If the Triple C, the Crime and Corruption Commission has been
- 8:24operating with invalid secondments for 20 years.
- 8:28If if it has, what happens to past investigations?
- 8:33What happens to coercive hearings?
- 8:37What happens to disciplinary actions?
- 8:41What happens to people like me who were removed under a
- 8:45framework that may not have been lawful?
- 8:50And most importantly, how does a corruption watchdog fail to
- 8:57follow its own legislation for two decades?
- 9:00That's if. That's if.
- 9:03If it's been invalid. OK, let's, I'm not jumping the
- 9:08gun. I'm not.
- 9:09I'm just saying these are the questions that that are being
- 9:12that will be raised. This is not a small issue.
- 9:16This is a, it's a crisis of legitimacy.
- 9:22The story isn't over. The Supreme Court will decide
- 9:25the legal questions, but the the moral questions are already
- 9:30answered. Queensland's institutions are
- 9:34broken. They punish the wrong people far
- 9:38too often, they ignore their own rules far too often, and they
- 9:44operate without the accountability they demand from
- 9:48everyone else. It's not just Queensland, this
- 9:52is Australia wide in in actual fact.
- 9:56As always, this is just my opinion.
- 10:00I'm Jay Fallon, thank you for listening to the Slippery Slope
- 10:04podcast. They just.
