- 0:19What's going on everybody.
- 0:20This is your host of the GTM podcast, Brad, AKA the triple
- 0:24six with me as always is Eric.
- 0:27We have a few special guests tonight with us.
- 0:29We've got a couple of club members has Matt got Mr.
- 0:32Crutch himself.
- 0:33And then we've got mountain man, Dan.
- 0:35Today's episode.
- 0:37Uh, we're going to do something a little different.
- 0:38We're kind of going to go around the horn style.
- 0:40Basically, we're talking about the one that got away.
- 0:42No, we're not talking about your high school girlfriend that you, you broke
- 0:45up with, broke your heart and you had to go cry to mom and now we're
- 0:47talking about the cars, cars that you used to own between the five of us.
- 0:51We've probably had shoot.
- 0:53I don't even know, probably 5, 000 cars between the five of us.
- 0:56I would say that's an exaggeration, but.
- 0:59probably not too far off.
- 1:00But anyway, we're going to talk about those cars, the ones that we regret
- 1:03getting rid of the one that got away.
- 1:05And then on top of that, we've got a special thing for you all.
- 1:07It's going to be the Desert Island question.
- 1:10All right, so let's hear what Matt has to say.
- 1:12All right, so you the car that got away, huh?
- 1:16Yeah.
- 1:16I mean, you've had several cars since I've known you, and that's only been
- 1:19a short time, five or six years.
- 1:21People used to give me cars.
- 1:22The blue GTI that Eric ultimately ended up with, somebody gave me.
- 1:27And according to the Volkswagen nerds, it was the rarest color ever.
- 1:32And the only thing that made it different from every other GTI 16 valve was it was
- 1:36blue, which apparently is a big thing.
- 1:39When Karzik got away, when I was in college, I, uh, had a good friend
- 1:44who, his father was a mechanic.
- 1:46Owned a repair shop in, in the town of Starr, North Carolina, and they
- 1:49lived in the town of McKinney United.
- 1:52Mr.
- 1:53Jenkins worked on a lot of interesting stuff.
- 1:55First time I had ever seen a Lotus 7, or replica, and he had a Westfield.
- 2:00He kept a 1956 Packard Caribbean convertible for the local millionaire.
- 2:05But he had a car that he offered to me and I should have bought it.
- 2:09It would have paid the same for that 86 gti8 valve that I bought that I
- 2:14kept for many many years In fact, eric probably remembers that car very
- 2:17vividly or I learned to drive on Tried to kill me in more than once The car
- 2:22that I was offered was interesting.
- 2:23It was a Ford Mustang.
- 2:25It was black, and it had gold dust stripes on it.
- 2:28It had this really big, ugly tachometer on the, on the dash.
- 2:32And it had snakes all over it.
- 2:34And, um, I think I know where this is going.
- 2:37The vins started CS.
- 2:39For those, for those who know the Shelby Mustangs, they made the GT350h.
- 2:44They were rental cars.
- 2:45The first 85 of those cars were manual transmission, manual brake cars.
- 2:50Were those Hurst cars?
- 2:52Hurst rental cars.
- 2:54Hurst, yeah, that's what I meant.
- 2:55Hurst shifters, though.
- 2:5685 were rental, sorry, were manual transmission cars.
- 2:58After that, Hurst's excuse was, It took an excessive amount of
- 3:03effort to hear and break the cars.
- 3:05The, uh, the standard 289, I believe was a 271 horsepower motor.
- 3:09The Shelby motor was a 289 made 306 horsepower, which in that day was amazing.
- 3:15The, the, the Mustang that I was offered was, it was not a numbers matching car.
- 3:20But it was a four speed at 13, 000 because it wasn't worth anything at that time.
- 3:25It would have been a hell of a car, but I guarantee you, none of you
- 3:28would know me now because I'd have been dead about 20 minutes later.
- 3:31I remember one morning, I used to spend the weekends there because it
- 3:35was a nice way to get away from school.
- 3:37I remember one morning, Mr.
- 3:38Jenkins looks at me, he says he was about 6'8 and if he said
- 3:42three words a day, that was a lie.
- 3:44And he says, you ridden a Mustang?
- 3:46No, sir.
- 3:47Well, you should.
- 3:48No kidding, you know.
- 3:51Let's go for a ride.
- 3:52He backs it out of the driveway.
- 3:54They were Chevrolet people.
- 3:56You know, that's a big thing in the South.
- 3:58Now man, Dan's smiling now.
- 4:00Oh yeah.
- 4:02He says, he says, It makes all them horrible Ford noises.
- 4:06God damn metal bushings.
- 4:07And he says, well, I'll take it easy.
- 4:08We'll go down, go into town.
- 4:10You know, he takes it easy and he, there's a, there was a bypass from Starr to Ethan.
- 4:14Don't ask me why.
- 4:16There was nothing else out there.
- 4:18It's not like they were bypassing the big city.
- 4:20Got it out on a main drag.
- 4:22Damn if that thing wouldn't catch all four gears.
- 4:26So let's, uh, let's pause there.
- 4:28Cause I have another car in mind that I want to ask you about in a little bit,
- 4:31but I want to, I want to go to Dan next.
- 4:33What's the car that you regret?
- 4:34Either selling.
- 4:36Not buying or even owning or not getting for free.
- 4:40Oh, yeah.
- 4:41That's a big one for him.
- 4:42I'd have to say for me, the car that got away, I never had the chance to buy.
- 4:47But my cousin, when I was in high school, she's a little bit older than me.
- 4:51And her parents, when she graduated, decided to buy her a car.
- 4:55They bought her a first gen Camaro.
- 4:57So she had this nice, beautiful maroon with black racing
- 5:01stripes, black leather interior.
- 5:0368 RS Camaro 327 with a four speed, she decided she was older having kids.
- 5:09It was time to get rid of the car.
- 5:11I begged her to let me buy the car from her.
- 5:15And she was like, that's too much car for you.
- 5:17You couldn't handle it.
- 5:18Dah, dah, dah.
- 5:19I might know truck and I can handle the power.
- 5:21That's not an issue.
- 5:22Fortunately that car, cause it was all original, original paint, original
- 5:25interior, original, everything.
- 5:27With the exception of maybe tires and brakes and things like that.
- 5:30It was an immaculate car and it always was in the garage.
- 5:35I don't think it ever spent a night outdoors.
- 5:37Unfortunately, I did not wind up with it.
- 5:39The gentleman that she wound up selling it to, I got very frustrated with for
- 5:43the fact that being the car that it was, he set it up for the drag strip where
- 5:48he cut it up, put a roll cage in it.
- 5:50Pulled the engine out.
- 5:51All kinds of stuff.
- 5:52Why?
- 5:53That car was perfect the way it was.
- 5:55There was no need to do that to go find one that was already
- 5:57chopped up to do that to.
- 5:58So hold on.
- 5:59Could you have gotten that car for less than a thousand dollars?
- 6:02Because I mean you have a reputation to maintain.
- 6:05That car.
- 6:06I don't believe so, but I wouldn't have been willing to pay that
- 6:08little, especially for what it was.
- 6:10It was worth well more than 1, 000, 1, Bob, 1.
- 6:16I think I may have mentioned when I was younger, my stepfather used to
- 6:19haul scrap vehicles a lot of times.
- 6:21And so we go to Down in Virginia too, there was a family down there
- 6:26that owned some property and over the years vehicles accumulated on it.
- 6:29We go down, started hauling the cars out of there because they decided
- 6:32they wanted to clean the property up.
- 6:33Many of these cars were in horrible condition where they'd sat in the
- 6:36same spot so long that it was, they'd sank into the ground almost five, six
- 6:39inches up past the bottom of the door.
- 6:42Into the mud and everything.
- 6:43This is a very familiar scene you're painting here, but please continue There
- 6:48were a couple of nice gems that we pulled out of there and one of them just so
- 6:52happened to be 64 chevy 2 nova just an inline six car an automatic The automatic
- 6:58was a paraglide, so that's a good thing.
- 7:00Sitting so long, the bottom floor pans were shot.
- 7:03We started restoring it a little bit, took care of replacement floor pans and stuff.
- 7:06I was only probably 12 years old at the time.
- 7:09The intent was for me to fix this up until I became 16.
- 7:11Unfortunately, hard times came.
- 7:13Needed to sell it, so it got sold, and I didn't ever wind up with it.
- 7:16But it did turn into a very phenomenal looking car.
- 7:19So in an earlier episode, we heard from from a crutch and he talked
- 7:22about one of the cars he regretted.
- 7:23So Mike, do you want to unpack that?
- 7:26Or do you have a even better story?
- 7:28Oh, there's, there's a little backstory about how, while we lived in Germany,
- 7:31we had a E90 325 BMW, we had, I don't know, about six months before we came
- 7:36back and the, the new one series was coming out first time in the U S.
- 7:40And so we went to take a look at ordering one of those.
- 7:44But when we stopped by the dealership, they had an E92 M3 there at the time.
- 7:48So I was kind of weighing my options of either getting the E92 or the one series.
- 7:52And we had bought the prior BMW here.
- 7:54So the, uh, the guy who worked there said, Oh, you want to take that out
- 7:58for a test drive and handed me the keys to a brand new E92 M3 about 500 yards
- 8:04away from an unrestricted Autobahn.
- 8:05So that's a test drive and a half.
- 8:08It very, very quickly hit 155 miles an hour, which was the governor on that.
- 8:13We ended up buying the one series.
- 8:14Part of me wishes we had bought the E92, but that would have probably
- 8:17meant we got rid of it even sooner after we got back to the States.
- 8:20The one series was a Hoot.
- 8:21It's a 300 horsepower twin turbo inline six, six speed manual convertible.
- 8:26A lot of, uh, interesting road trips with that car all over Europe, up
- 8:30and down Sylvia pass, which is just as amazing as it looked on top here.
- 8:34I am so, I am so jelly.
- 8:37You don't even understand.
- 8:39And to this day, there are two pictures hanging in my house of that car.
- 8:42Uh, one from the top of Selvia pass where we pulled over to take a photo of
- 8:46just the car and then another entering the carousel on the Nürburgring with my
- 8:52wife actually driving it at that time.
- 8:53There is another famous photograph of that car though, where my boss at the
- 8:57time came along with me to Nürburgring and was sitting in the passenger seat.
- 9:01And most people don't even realize he's in the photo.
- 9:03Because they're distracted by the fact that the car is airborne,
- 9:06uh, as, as we enter a braking zone for a sharp right hand corner.
- 9:10So airbrakes.
- 9:11That's when you put your hands up, right?
- 9:15You work as the airfoil to slow the car down.
- 9:17Well, well, my forehead was an airfoil because my head actually rifted above
- 9:22the windshield because the top was down.
- 9:24No helmets required.
- 9:25Very, very different world, uh, over there on the track.
- 9:27So, so what you're saying is you wouldn't have passed the
- 9:30broomstick test in that car?
- 9:32No, no, not, not in the slightest.
- 9:35We'll save that comment for another episode.
- 9:40All right, Mr.
- 9:40Montequatro, your turn.
- 9:42Oh man, I got a list of them, but you know what, I'm going to
- 9:45start with the earliest regret.
- 9:47And it kind of popped into my head today for, for various reasons, but I actually.
- 9:52I had mentioned this on a previous episode, and I've talked to you guys
- 9:54about it before, especially to Matthew.
- 9:56Uh, my dad, you know, we were always, we had coupes in the house, you know,
- 10:00always two door Volkswagen Sciroccos, all sorts of stuff, Corrados, et cetera.
- 10:04My dad had pre ordered one of the first 16 valve Sciroccos, the A2s, and it was
- 10:09a triple black, black leather, black car with black basket weave BBS wheels.
- 10:15And I thought that was the coolest car in the world as a kid, right?
- 10:19It was an 86 and I'm like, man, one of these days when I'm old
- 10:23enough, I'm going to have this car.
- 10:24It's going to be amazing.
- 10:25Right?
- 10:26Fast forward a couple of years.
- 10:27He used to autocross that car.
- 10:29The wheels ended up, you know, I think Matt ended up with a
- 10:31set of wheels from that car.
- 10:32Parts went all over the place and he ended up deciding that he wanted
- 10:35to sell it because he was moving on.
- 10:37He was buying the Corrado.
- 10:38They had bought my mom a second gen Kuquatro.
- 10:41They got rid of her eight valve Scirocco and I was, and I was just heartbroken.
- 10:45And the worst part was when my dad sold the car, he had it all
- 10:49packaged up, all cleaned up, you know, it was real anal about keeping
- 10:52the cars in really nice shape.
- 10:53The guy that came to pick it up, came and got it at night.
- 10:56And my dad actually happened to be away on some sort of trip or
- 10:59business trip or something like that.
- 11:00And I just remember when my mom handed him all the stuff and then they drove away
- 11:04and I could hear the exhaust of the car.
- 11:06I just started.
- 11:07And I looked at my mom, and she'll verify this whole story.
- 11:10And I looked at my mom and I'm like, that was supposed to be my car.
- 11:13And I'm just like, you know, and it is, it's a, it's a memory.
- 11:16And it's a feeling that has always, you know, stayed with me.
- 11:19And then I drove Matt's 16 valve Scirocco many years later.
- 11:23And I kind of got over it, but
- 11:28remember, remember what I always say.
- 11:30Don't drive your hero.
- 11:31Absolutely.
- 11:32And I've made that mistake several times, unfortunately.
- 11:35But how about you, Brad?
- 11:36I've had, I'm looking at my, I made a little, uh, diagram here, a little list,
- 11:41like you might, much like you'd see at the bottom of a Wikipedia for like bands,
- 11:44like who's in the band and who's not.
- 11:45And I've got a list of all the cars I've owned and it totals 23 vehicles.
- 11:50Since I was 16 years old.
- 11:52Now I say that to a bunch of car guys and they're like,
- 11:54yeah, so I've had double that.
- 11:56You say that to my wife and she's like, Oh my God, look at all that money you wasted.
- 12:02But anyway, so there in that list, there are.
- 12:05Two to three vehicles that I really, really wish I had.
- 12:09The first one I'm going to say is my, my Ducati motorcycle.
- 12:13I was 20 years old, 18, 19, 20 years old or something.
- 12:18I don't know why, but I got this hair up my ass that I really wanted a motorcycle,
- 12:22but I didn't want any motorcycle.
- 12:24I wanted a Ducati.
- 12:24New Ducatis at the time were.
- 12:2613, 14, 000 and you just completely out of my price range, but I knew
- 12:30somebody who knew somebody who knew some other people who happened to
- 12:34know someone that was a mechanic at a Ducati dealership selling a used 748.
- 12:38I got in contact with the guy.
- 12:40He had some cool cars as well.
- 12:41He had a, a fourth gen Supra and he had a CJ lifted and all that other good stuff.
- 12:47So I ended up buying this Ducati from them, had it for a couple
- 12:50years, but then I found that I never really rode motorcycles.
- 12:53Like, I had them.
- 12:54I've had three, but I never rode them.
- 12:57I mean, it's always a pain to put on all the gear and everything and, you know,
- 13:00someone my size in the middle of summer.
- 13:02Riding a motorcycle, you get somewhere and you lost five pounds of water because
- 13:05you sweated it all out on the way.
- 13:07Plus the Ducati was air cooled.
- 13:08So that didn't, you know, all that heat and everything you need to really
- 13:12keep it moving or it got really hot.
- 13:13Uh, so that's, that's the first one that they got away that
- 13:15I'm really, really sad about.
- 13:17The second was a 98 Chevrolet Camaro SS.
- 13:21Now I had a 99 Camaro Z28 that I bought used a dealer after I
- 13:25got rid of the first GTI I had.
- 13:27The 99 Z28, I had full suspension on it and it was, it was a fun car.
- 13:32I ended up wrecking it as I explained in the, in our origin stories.
- 13:36Um, but the, the 98 that I bought several years later, I actually
- 13:40bought from a club member.
- 13:41I bought from Andrew Mason.
- 13:43He was having a family.
- 13:44He was downsizing his fleet.
- 13:45Uh, he needed to get rid of the, the cool, you know, sports car
- 13:49to get something more practical.
- 13:50So I bought the car from him and it was, it was a lot of fun.
- 13:53It was set up kind of similar to the 99 I had, but it was bright red.
- 13:57It was a beautiful car and I ended up selling it because all my friends
- 14:01around me were getting Subaru STIs and I was like, Oh, I want an STI.
- 14:04So I sold the Camaro and got an STI.
- 14:06And I regret it now because that would have been a great track car.
- 14:08Uh, and just for cruising around the street and everything.
- 14:11Uh, so that's number two.
- 14:12And then number three that I will have again someday.
- 14:14I will get into that later.
- 14:16Is it my, my Jeep Wrangler, my 97.
- 14:18It was a TJ, which I think is the better body style had the upgraded
- 14:23suspension and everything, but it had the more traditional looks.
- 14:26It was green lifted three and a half inch lift, 32 inch tires and
- 14:31manual transmission and everything.
- 14:32And I just, I love that vehicle and I regret getting rid of it.
- 14:36I am going to call a yellow flag on that, uh, flag on the play, gentlemen.
- 14:40I believe he said in a previous episode, he was buying a Murano cross
- 14:44cabriolet in champagne rose metallic.
- 14:47This is what we settled on.
- 14:49That's in, that's in the future.
- 14:50And I have a three car garage so I can have two and I guarantee you all
- 14:56that is a future regret right there.
- 15:01I mean, when you get that Jeep, we're going to LS swap it, right?
- 15:03Of course, of course.
- 15:04I mean, that's, it's got to be the plan.
- 15:06We're going to also, we're going to add that to the regret column too,
- 15:09just mark my words on that one.
- 15:10Well, my, my, my, my, you mean my mechanic is going to be doing the swap, but
- 15:16anyway, Rio is no geometric convertible.
- 15:19Ah, see, that's what I was.
- 15:21I was holding that Jim for me because I know he regrets.
- 15:27Come on.
- 15:27He, he regrets not buying one of those yet.
- 15:30Come on now, Matt.
- 15:31That is true.
- 15:31That was true.
- 15:32I, someone give me, if, if I did, I'd have bought one by now.
- 15:34What's really, really funny, we tried, we tried actually really hard.
- 15:37Me and a bunch of your, your friends, Matt, for your 50th birthday, we tried to
- 15:41find a Fusia Geo Metro convertible manual.
- 15:45We were, we were gonna buy it . We were . We had a whopping budget of $52 to spend.
- 15:51That's about all their worth.
- 15:53And believe you, we couldn't find one.
- 15:55That was the worst part.
- 15:56It was like, there was a point there where they were everywhere.
- 15:58You're like, ah, geometric convertible, yellow, white, whatever.
- 16:01And the closest thing came with some clapped out stoner, but you
- 16:05know, electric blue car in Denver.
- 16:07And I'm like, I am not going that far, but we will find that fuchsia geo for you.
- 16:12I, you know what, they all bought the, uh, Chrysler PTD cruiser convertible.
- 16:17The standard purchase requirement.
- 16:19for any geometric convertible is you had to weigh at least as much as the car.
- 16:23And as they got older and heavier, they needed to get bigger cars.
- 16:26And that's why they bought the PT cruiser convertible.
- 16:28I have to say, you say they went from the Metro to the PT convertible.
- 16:33I think there was a transition period where a lot of them got, uh,
- 16:36the Chrysler Sebring convertible.
- 16:37I rented, I rented one of those in Detroit and I autocrossed it.
- 16:41And it was phenomenal.
- 16:43Wait, wait, wait, wait, hold on.
- 16:44You autocrossed a Chrysler Sebring?
- 16:46Was it John Voights?
- 16:47I flew in and out of Cleveland because it was cheaper.
- 16:50I had, I had amassed enough points.
- 16:52And I said, uh, they, the first thing tried to give me a Grand Prix was
- 16:55like 40, 000 miles, which in rental car miles, as all, as those of you
- 16:59who travel, no, that's like what, like 200, 000 miles in dog years.
- 17:03And so I, I went back and no way, we can give you a convertible.
- 17:07Well, it's like March, I think in Detroit.
- 17:09Sure.
- 17:09Give me the freaking convertible.
- 17:11And so I ended up driving it.
- 17:13I went to Erie for the weekend.
- 17:14Cause I have a family friend I grew up with and they had an autocross there.
- 17:18The car was amazing.
- 17:19You would turn in and it would literally lay down on the, on the, uh, rocker panel.
- 17:24And as you turn in, you could watch the rear of the car twist
- 17:27in the opposite direction, the, uh, your sarcasm knows no bounds.
- 17:32So, so are you saying you regret not buying a Chrysler Sebring?
- 17:37Is that what I'm hearing?
- 17:37Is that the one that got away, Matt?
- 17:39I think he regrets that rental.
- 17:42You know, he said he got that with rewards points.
- 17:45I don't think a Chrysler Sebring convertible is a
- 17:47reward, that's a punishment.
- 17:51One of my many trips involved going to Chicago, and the reward
- 17:56car that I got was a Taurus.
- 17:58With a sunroof.
- 18:02Are you cashing in like the Monopoly things from McDonald's?
- 18:06You're in gluttony for punishment, Matt.
- 18:08Are you taking enterprise reward points and cashing them in?
- 18:11It hurts?
- 18:12Yes.
- 18:13No, I Fortunately, I had hurt, but still, oh, well, you know, the beauty is as I,
- 18:18as I started traveling more and became more, uh, more educated, I gravitated
- 18:23towards the Crown Vic because A, they didn't get beat up like the little cars
- 18:28did, and B, I usually got them in white.
- 18:30Because that way I kind of blend it in, except for the one, the one night I
- 18:35got lost in the Garment District in LA.
- 18:37Who drives around, who drives around the Garment District at 10 o'clock at night?
- 18:41No one!
- 18:42No one with a brain!
- 18:43But my, my co worker who would travel with me was a little gal, a little older than
- 18:47I am, but she was like five foot tall.
- 18:49You're only five foot two.
- 18:51Thank you.
- 18:52And she, she would ride in that car, she couldn't see over the dashboard, and she,
- 18:56I said, what do you think of these things?
- 18:57She goes, well, it's like my father's father's Oldsmobile.
- 19:01So we, I love those cars.
- 19:02They were comfortable.
- 19:03You could park them anywhere because it was so damn big.
- 19:06No one would get in your way.
- 19:07Well, there, there you have it.
- 19:08Never a dull moment.
- 19:10So, so we've, we've gone around the horn, we've gotten everybody's, uh, regrets.
- 19:14Oh, no, no, no.
- 19:15I have, I have a list.
- 19:16I didn't cover them.
- 19:17Oh, all right.
- 19:19Well, let's, let's keep it going.
- 19:20Let's keep it rolling.
- 19:21Let's see what you got, buddy.
- 19:22All right.
- 19:24Regrets.
- 19:24So I will say I'll, I'll throw it in for my mom real quick.
- 19:27She regrets my dad selling our wide body 911 that we talked
- 19:31about in the first episode.
- 19:32Reason being was that was the car that he apparently bought for her.
- 19:36And I'm gonna put air quotes around that.
- 19:39Yeah, the red one that she never that she never drove the one that I drove
- 19:44and I think everybody in the Porsche club ship themselves because I drove it.
- 19:48Yeah, exactly.
- 19:50I'm sensing a theme here.
- 19:51He had a tendency to sell the vehicles that were earmarked for other people.
- 19:55Yeah, right.
- 19:56So with that being said, big regrets.
- 19:59I regret buying that BMW, but we're going to save that for the BMW episode.
- 20:02I think everybody regrets buying a BMW.
- 20:06Oh, geez.
- 20:07And that's actually a car I was going to bring up for Matt, and we'll talk
- 20:09about it in a second, is his E28 M5.
- 20:13So on my list to just kind of wrap that up, one of the cars I really wanted to buy
- 20:18and regret the fact that Volkswagen never produced it is a car you all are going to
- 20:22have to Google, which is a vehicle known as the VW Concept R came out about 2001
- 20:272002 time frame as a prototype built on the Boxster, but it was powered by a 3.
- 20:322 liter four Beetle RSI Golf R32 engine, and they were going to
- 20:36bring it in as a kind of base market sports car, you know, 30, 000.
- 20:41And it was fantastic.
- 20:42I love the look of it.
- 20:43It's actually what inspired the look of the, uh, the mark five GTIs with that
- 20:47kind of Chrome nose kind of beakish.
- 20:49It actually has the same headlights as an EOS.
- 20:51You know, stuff like that, they never ended up producing it.
- 20:54And I still have that picture, you know, as one of my desktop wallpapers.
- 20:57I mentioned in a previous episode, my wife and I both
- 20:59regret selling our SS trailblazer.
- 21:01I blame Dan entirely for buying it.
- 21:04I blame myself entirely for getting rid of it, but that was
- 21:07the ultimate hashtag track truck.
- 21:09It was an absolute pleasure to drive.
- 21:11Granted it was 1998, you know, Chevy interior.
- 21:15So you had to kind of put up with that, but everything else it offered was.
- 21:19Fantastic.
- 21:20And the last car, big regret, and it's a car I've said probably many times over
- 21:24that I would still have to this day.
- 21:26Much like my dad who pre ordered cars, I pre ordered a 2004 VW Golf R32.
- 21:34Now, for those that don't know, and if you happen to be in the DMV, in the
- 21:37late 2003 timeframe when the Baltimore auto show was still in the fall and the
- 21:42DC auto show was then in the winter.
- 21:44It's kind of moved a little bit over the years.
- 21:46The car that was on display at both of those shows is actually my car.
- 21:49Now, 50, 000 public butts sat in my car.
- 21:51Unfortunately, thank God they fumigated it after it was over, but my car
- 21:55was actually 2003 triple black.
- 21:57And I had that car for three plus years and unfortunately was stolen
- 22:01right out from underneath of me.
- 22:02It's a void in my life.
- 22:04It wasn't one of those things that I could get closure on because it was taken.
- 22:07And I've said many times before, I would still have that car to this day.
- 22:11I mean, I found things that are as fun, if not more fun to take its place.
- 22:15But for me, that was my first big boy sports car that I bought on my own.
- 22:21I wanted it so bad.
- 22:23You know, I bought my 24 valve VR six, the first one.
- 22:26And I put a down payment on the R 32 the same day when I had heard, you
- 22:29know, yes, you can get one of these.
- 22:31And I actually had, I had a down payment to two dealerships.
- 22:35Cause I wasn't sure which one was going to get it first.
- 22:37So, uh, yeah, so that's a huge one for me.
- 22:39And it's oddly enough, Baltimore calls me every once in a while and
- 22:41says, did you ever find your car?
- 22:43Is that really my job?
- 22:45But we'll just leave it there.
- 22:46So you, uh, you bring up the concept, but I seem to recall there was a
- 22:49different Volkswagen that didn't get made, that you wanted more.
- 22:51It didn't get made or wasn't brought to the U S that didn't get made.
- 22:55It was the, uh, Volkswagen blue sport.
- 22:58Oh yeah.
- 22:59The wannabe nine 14.
- 23:01Uh, God, don't remind me if you're gonna go with that, but you know what
- 23:05Chrissy would kill for right now.
- 23:06What's that?
- 23:07The Arteon?
- 23:09Yeah, I saw that that's pretty hot and we're gonna we're gonna talk
- 23:12about that when we do our uh, What car should I buy wagons edition?
- 23:16Oh, it looks so beautiful by the episode entitled the cool stuff that
- 23:20europe gets that we'll never see Uh, Buick just discontinued theirs
- 23:25too, but that Tour X was pretty hot.
- 23:27I can get, I can get you one of those Buicks.
- 23:29I have a friend who just bought one.
- 23:31Does he own small French cars?
- 23:33One.
- 23:33Okay, then I know where my vote goes.
- 23:36Yeah, so I'm gonna have to add on to the, uh, got away list, Eric's Trailblazer.
- 23:41Because when he did decide to sell it, He wanted to buy it.
- 23:44That didn't offer until 30, 000.
- 23:47Well, no, it was the fact that at that time I didn't have spare funds
- 23:50to pay what it was worth, and I would have loved to have, but I couldn't
- 23:53justify buying it when I had the collection that I do have already.
- 23:58If we're gonna go with a couple other cars, while I was stationed
- 24:01over in England, most people don't think it's much, but for
- 24:04me, I had a German spec Carado G6.
- 24:06Loved that car.
- 24:07Unfortunately, when I went to ship it back stateside, things with the
- 24:10importer and didn't work out and that didn't make it stateside with me.
- 24:14So it's somewhere still cruising around over in Europe,
- 24:17hopefully, and enjoying its life.
- 24:18Other vehicle that I kind of kicked myself for not getting while I was over there,
- 24:22buddy of mine that was stationed over there with Rizzo had a Hillman Super M.
- 24:26So those of you who don't know what that is, look it up.
- 24:28Most people are going to look at it and think it's an ugly car, but I
- 24:30thought it was a really cool rear engine car that was, you know, it
- 24:34was an older car, but it was just.
- 24:35Somebody, I think it would have been fun to go out and cruise around on
- 24:38the weekends with, and Brad, since you said you mentioned your Ducati,
- 24:41I almost brought a Ducati back from Europe with me because I knew what
- 24:44they were selling for here in the U.
- 24:45S.
- 24:46So over there, I could get it for like a quarter of the price, and
- 24:50with the military, they would ship motorcycles as our household goods, so
- 24:53it didn't count as shipping a vehicle.
- 24:54So I almost brought one back just for the purpose of selling it.
- 24:56So I could have told you had I known, I'd have bought it and brought it.
- 24:59There's one other vehicle that I want to talk about that I got I had for a
- 25:02short time, and it's a 71 Super Beetle.
- 25:05I got it from my well, my grandfather owned it.
- 25:08You know, when I was very young, he passed away.
- 25:10It ended up in my uncle's hands.
- 25:11I had the grand idea that I was going to get it and fix it up and
- 25:14just turn it into a street rod and make it really cool and everything.
- 25:18Of course, I was in my early twenties, and I made it.
- 25:20Early twenties money, though I wasn't able to do that.
- 25:23I ended up selling it to some guy for like 500 bucks and he took the, uh,
- 25:26the rear end out of it, the suspension out of it and use it for a trike.
- 25:29So I regret getting rid of that car.
- 25:31And if I could have a super beetle today, name a grandpa and have it
- 25:34done up the same way he had it.
- 25:36Daniel, I've got one other question for you.
- 25:38Of all the cars on your property that are not running, for those of
- 25:42you that don't know, he's got about 472 cars on his property right now.
- 25:47No, last time it was just over 30.
- 25:49Which one, which, which of the cars on your property do
- 25:51you regret is not running?
- 25:53That would be the Mercedes Sable wagon.
- 25:56Or three Sable wagon.
- 26:00That's a hard pass on that.
- 26:02That's why he has two.
- 26:04Okay.
- 26:05No, there's only one fable.
- 26:06The other's a Taurus.
- 26:08Excuse me.
- 26:10One's for blue collar, the other's for mid level management.
- 26:14Yes, there's a difference.
- 26:16Available today at your local Hertz.
- 26:19Yes.
- 26:19Anybody interested in one, hit me up.
- 26:21I can make you a great deal on it.
- 26:22You can find him on Facebook Marketplace.
- 26:27For all of them on the property right now that do not run, I would have
- 26:30to say it does run right now, but it's not at its final product, which
- 26:35is going to be my crew cab square body them doing the Duramax swap.
- 26:39I thought you were going to say your Grand Prix.
- 26:41Your Pontiac or was it?
- 26:42Is that a Bonneville?
- 26:43It's a Grand Prix.
- 26:44It does run.
- 26:45I could start it up and drive it right now.
- 26:46But the reason I haven't is the fact that I'm planning to put a stroker
- 26:50motor in that and that vehicle doesn't have the hundredth digit on the
- 26:53odometer and it's sitting all zeros right now because it's just 100, 000.
- 26:56Right.
- 26:56I figure what better way to track mileage than putting it in with it reading zero.
- 27:01You can't argue with that logic.
- 27:02I wonder though, if there's a, you know, with Mike and Dan on the line, if there's
- 27:07anything about the Burgundy E36 that we need to cover, talking about regrets.
- 27:11Yeah, caging it in the first place?
- 27:13How's that?
- 27:15Frankenstein will live.
- 27:16I bet Mike regrets keeping it for as long as he did and Dan regrets buying it.
- 27:23But I want to talk about BMWs for a second, Matt.
- 27:26I mean, for me to you, I really liked Das Boot and you had that 740i BMW.
- 27:32That was such a fantastic riding car.
- 27:35Granted, I didn't have to live with any of the misery you did with its
- 27:38maintenance and stuff like that.
- 27:40Every yuppie in America drove one, you know, that the, hello, I'm a stockbroker
- 27:45and I am very wealthy and I have a BMW.
- 27:47The ones who drove those were the same people who drove 450 SEL Mercedes.
- 27:51My esteem for BMW plummeted was the E36 was the first car that
- 27:55they compromised on so heavily.
- 27:57The E36 was the M car that had a single throttle body.
- 28:01It was production line built and they ultimately offered an automatic because
- 28:06the market whined that my wife won't let me buy one because it's a manual.
- 28:11Well, and to be wholly honest with you, that's probably the one car
- 28:15I regret selling is the E28 M5.
- 28:17Compared to today's BMWs, it's horrible.
- 28:20The seats are hard, the ride was stiff.
- 28:23The coolest thing about it was, and I read this, so it's not actually, I didn't come
- 28:27up with this, but as you drove it, and you got on it really hard, almost hear
- 28:31an F1 race somewhere in the background.
- 28:34You could, you could definitely tell when you opened up the throttle.
- 28:37I, I made a point of telling people that the short shift kit in my car had
- 28:40been installed by Rob Levinson himself.
- 28:42And I had the exhaust system that he designed for those cars.
- 28:46Uh, I also visited him in, I think it was New York or Connecticut.
- 28:50I was forced to drive his E28 M5 with a Dinan turbo.
- 28:56Forced to.
- 28:57Yeah.
- 28:57Terrible, terrible thing.
- 29:00And it's interesting, you know, as much as I've never owned a turbo
- 29:03car until now, the other car that I regret not buying, and I should
- 29:07have, Alan R has an 86 930 turbo.
- 29:10My uncle had a 78.
- 29:11That's one that, uh, I could see owning.
- 29:14I, my uncle was incredibly generous, man.
- 29:17I went out for a wedding in the Bay area and asked if I could take the car.
- 29:21And he said, Oh, take the Porsche.
- 29:22Go ahead.
- 29:23Nothing like coming across Dumbarton bridge at two o'clock in the morning
- 29:27at 125 miles an hour, because.
- 29:31I just want to say, it was just us lowly Americans who
- 29:34got the bastardized M3 motor.
- 29:36The Europeans actually got independent throttle body M3 motor.
- 29:40That's how we used to piss off the E36 owners.
- 29:43They were the ones that were the freshly minted millionaires.
- 29:45They would go into the store and they'd whip out the 100 bills
- 29:48and said, Oh, yeah, real M cars have individual throttle bodies.
- 29:54And to show you what an idiot I am, there was a period of time
- 29:57where I owned two of the rarest German sports sedans ever built.
- 30:00I had Audi V8 and an E28 M5.
- 30:03And I used to have people who would talk about, dude, dude, my, my, my GTI is rare
- 30:09because they only made 20, 000 in white.
- 30:12And I, I, I used to piss people off.
- 30:13I said, I'll tell you what.
- 30:14When you have total production under 1, 200, call me.
- 30:17Mic drop.
- 30:18Boom.
- 30:18So Bradley, I guess the final challenge here, right?
- 30:21What three cars would you have in your garage?
- 30:24Exactly, exactly.
- 30:25And I guess I can go ahead and kick us off here.
- 30:27I thought about it.
- 30:27For me, my, my wants and desires change.
- 30:31Like I change my underwear every single day.
- 30:33It's just, it's hard to keep, keep my mind on one, you know, thing.
- 30:36But for today, the three cars that I would have in my garage,
- 30:39I'd have a Dodge Cummins diesel.
- 30:41I'd have the Dually just because I just think they're, They're bad ass man.
- 30:45Has anybody seen lethal weapon two?
- 30:47When, uh, Mel Gibson takes his dually, it's a Chevy dually in that movie.
- 30:50And he pulls down that, that house up on stilts from the beach and everything.
- 30:54I've seen a better video.
- 30:55That's one of our members, Nick doing donuts around the
- 30:58skid pad in a dually diesel.
- 31:00Big girls need love too.
- 31:01I want a, I want a dually.
- 31:02So, so that's, that's the first one because I need something
- 31:05to tow my track car, right?
- 31:06Right?
- 31:07So the next vehicle I'm going to have in my garage is a Porsche 911.
- 31:10I've wanted one.
- 31:12I don't know why since I was a kid.
- 31:13I used to be a huge Ferrari fan, but they're fragile and they
- 31:16like to barbecue themselves.
- 31:17So I, I think I really want a 911.
- 31:19It's, it's advertised as the everyday supercar.
- 31:22I mean, you can drive it to the grocery store.
- 31:24You drive to the track the next day, go pick up your kids, your whatever.
- 31:27You can do anything with it.
- 31:28So I kinda, I want a 911.
- 31:30I don't know which one I want, a GT3 RS would be cool.
- 31:34Um, but just a base, a regular 911 with a manual, I thought, but it'd be a
- 31:38great car to have, uh, in, in my garage.
- 31:40And then.
- 31:41A Wrangler with a motor swap, something I can take the doors off of the, to the
- 31:44top off of, uh, and just enjoy, you know, the weather that would be my convertible.
- 31:48So, yeah.
- 31:49And then for an honorable mention, the Volvo V90 wagon, because I just
- 31:52think that they're beautiful cars.
- 31:53So mountain man, Dan, you guys know that I have trouble with limiting down to three,
- 31:58three, three, four, that's more realist.
- 32:03I would have to say one of the cars I would definitely have only because
- 32:07it's been one of my favorite cars since I was a kid, 57 Chevy Bel Air.
- 32:10Some people think it's an overrated car because so many other people
- 32:13like them and everything, but any of the Tri 5, you know, 55 through 57,
- 32:17but I like the big fins on the 57.
- 32:18If I had one, I would definitely have it modernized with an LS in
- 32:21it, but I should actually ask a question prior to listing them all.
- 32:25How big is this island?
- 32:26Because the island is a metaphor.
- 32:31It's just the question is, if you're going on a desert island, you can
- 32:35only take so many things with you.
- 32:37Essentially your island is your three car garage.
- 32:39You can only have three cars for the rest of your life.
- 32:41Did, did anybody just hear the theme music from Sanford and Son?
- 32:47Other than that, I would definitely have one of my square bodies.
- 32:49Shocker!
- 32:51I would have to have one of my square bodies.
- 32:53Of the, of the 15 year span of square bodies, which year do you pick?
- 32:59And the span of square bodies is more than 15 years.
- 33:01Yeah, yeah, it's like that Johnny Cash song, 51, 52, 53.
- 33:06Honestly, like, so if I were to take one over, it would probably be
- 33:09between my K5, which was my brother's.
- 33:13Before, uh, he was killed or it would be my short bed, two wheel drive that my
- 33:18brother helped me build before he died.
- 33:19So probably one of those two, although I'd possibly option for one of the
- 33:24four wheel drive crew cab trucks, square bodies that I have because
- 33:27I might need to tow something.
- 33:28And then for my third car in the garage for years, I've always said
- 33:33I would never own one, but now
- 33:38Um, for the longest time, I always said that I would never own a Cadillac because
- 33:43they were an overpriced Chevrolet.
- 33:44And then Cadillac did me dirty and came out with the CTS B and I fell in love.
- 33:48Man, I thought he was going to say the XLR because that was going to
- 33:50be a big points win right there.
- 33:52I want the Cimarron.
- 33:54Yeah, or the Catera.
- 33:55He wants the Catera.
- 33:56I'm cheap.
- 33:57I'm cheap.
- 33:58I will take the citation.
- 33:59Thank you very much.
- 34:02But so, so those will be my three vehicles.
- 34:04But I'm going to add a cheater to that.
- 34:06One of my Harleys is going to be in the bed of the truck.
- 34:07That's a smart move.
- 34:10Well, I've got a garage big enough to fit a dually in.
- 34:13So, I mean, come on now.
- 34:15If we do it right, we can build some sort of a rack system.
- 34:18We can drive a Lotus in the back of my truck.
- 34:21Challenge accepted.
- 34:23All right.
- 34:24So, Mike.
- 34:25What's your three on your island?
- 34:26I'm weird.
- 34:27I, uh, Where it goes without saying.
- 34:30I have a thing for wagons, and I don't know why.
- 34:32There's one wagon in particular that Volkswagen actually made, which I just
- 34:36feel like having to screw around with.
- 34:37B5 Passat wagon, all wheel drive, stick shift with the W8 motor.
- 34:43Yes!
- 34:44Yes!
- 34:45Yes!
- 34:46Excellent choice!
- 34:47The unicorn of unicorns!
- 34:49I actually saw one for sale not that long ago.
- 34:51There's a reason it was for sale.
- 34:53Well, yeah, because of the W8 maintenance.
- 34:55It came with a spare Audi 4.
- 34:582 that you can swap into it.
- 35:01The best thing about those cars is how you change the O2 sensor.
- 35:04Engine out.
- 35:06Lift the carpet and drill a hole in the floor.
- 35:08You know, as something that can be kind of dual purpose, CTSV wagon.
- 35:12That's a win right there.
- 35:13Major points.
- 35:14Good luck finding one of those at a price.
- 35:16Well, and they have a habit of getting stolen these days.
- 35:19That's what I mean.
- 35:19I mean, you know, what were they new?
- 35:20They were 50, 000 new and now they're 70, 000?
- 35:23I don't know.
- 35:24Number three, probably something stupid like an R8.
- 35:26I figured you would have thrown in that Kiwi station wagon you wrote about
- 35:31while you were over in New Zealand.
- 35:32What was that?
- 35:33The Holden Commodore HSV wagon or whatever that was.
- 35:37No, no, it was.
- 35:38So yeah, actually there's a Holden Commodore HSV ute.
- 35:43I mean, just a whole bunch of the stuff I saw over there was really cool.
- 35:45But those, uh, some of those Holden HSV.
- 35:49worked over utes are amazing.
- 35:51They did the full thing like Dodge did with when they came out with Challenger.
- 35:54They offer them in bright, obnoxious colors that look amazing on that thing,
- 35:59like a bright lime electric green.
- 36:01I hope you and Dan enjoy your Mary Kay Cadillacs.
- 36:04That's, that's nice.
- 36:06But we'll move on to Matthew.
- 36:08The colors Chrysler used, they were from the, they were from the 70s.
- 36:11They were, they were just retro, you know, what was it?
- 36:13Vitamin C and, uh, plum.
- 36:15Plum crazy.
- 36:16Oh, they were, they were, I mean, they were great names, you know, because
- 36:18you, you see 'em today and they're just, I'll pause you there in the colors
- 36:22just to add a little bit of color.
- 36:23Uh, have you ever seen, and this was a factory card, the color pattern
- 36:28challenger, which featured every stripe of every color that was
- 36:33available at that time from Chrysler.
- 36:35It was a factory produced car, and apparently it exists.
- 36:38Today in a museum, it was reproduced or whatever.
- 36:41It's actually really, really neat.
- 36:42And the story behind why that car was developed to showcase all those crazy
- 36:46colors, like sublime green and plum crazy.
- 36:48And all these other ones that we talked about.
- 36:50So that's pretty neat piece of history there.
- 36:52Well, it's like the Harlequin gold.
- 36:54I hate to admit that I like the new Challenger, because I really wanted
- 36:57to hate it, and then I drove one, and, well, you know, the 392, you just can't,
- 37:01you just can't, uh, you just can't say no to it, but I wanted to find one in
- 37:05purple, and I have yet to find one.
- 37:07Yeah, I was gonna say, it was a hard choice between going with the 911 for
- 37:12my, you know, dream garage, or the Hellcat, because I really want a Hellcat,
- 37:16but I just feel that the 911 would have been a better, just all around
- 37:21performer, which is why I elected to have that in my, my theoretical garage.
- 37:25Well, what about you, Matt?
- 37:27What are you thinking for your, your garage, your dream garage?
- 37:29If I could afford to do it every day, I would drive that pickup truck of mine.
- 37:33Not, not worry about a car.
- 37:34I alternate between liking the dually and liking the single rear wheel.
- 37:38I drove the exact same truck I have now in a dually and ended
- 37:42up buying this one instead.
- 37:4322 years later.
- 37:45A single rear wheel ain't bad.
- 37:46It fits in parking spaces better.
- 37:48Although with a 20 foot long truck, as Dan knows, you don't really
- 37:52fit in parking spaces anyway.
- 37:54So I'd probably have something like that.
- 37:56You know, the full size truck.
- 37:58The key thing about yours is it's manual instead of the
- 38:00automatics they have behind it.
- 38:01In fact, I would tell the dealers as I was looking for those.
- 38:04I says, you know, I'm looking for an F 350.
- 38:06You know, you'd see that look.
- 38:07And they, uh, you know, I want the diesel.
- 38:09And of course you get even more excited.
- 38:11And I looked at him, I says, Oh yeah.
- 38:13And it's gotta be a manual.
- 38:14Cause I never learned how to drive an automatic.
- 38:16My mom says the exact same thing.
- 38:21As much as I like the 930 turbo, I've had a fascination with these
- 38:25cars since I was 10 years old.
- 38:27I want a real Cobra.
- 38:28My high school friend, his dad, you've heard me talk about him, my friend
- 38:32Bill, he had a Superformance Cobra, which is the factory approved fiberglass
- 38:38version of the original AC Cobra.
- 38:40His, however, happened to have a 427 side wheeler in it.
- 38:44You know, the motor that the block is worth, like, 20 grand.
- 38:46There's just something about those cars.
- 38:48They said more than one buyer did not make it to the first payment.
- 38:52They said, you wouldn't give A first time shooter, a 44 Magnum, just like
- 38:57you wouldn't put them in a 427 Cobra.
- 38:59I agree.
- 39:00And I, and I like that.
- 39:01I like, I like a car you've got to respect.
- 39:03So, so we've got your, your Ford.
- 39:04We've got your, your, the biggest truck in the world and the smallest
- 39:07car in the world, your Cobra.
- 39:09What are you going to put in between?
- 39:10If I could find another one and there were only 53 ever built.
- 39:14I really liked my Audi V8.
- 39:15It was an interesting car.
- 39:17Nobody knew what the hell it was.
- 39:18The automatic transmission.
- 39:20It was a four speed that was geared for Europe.
- 39:23So, just like a Mercedes, if you've ever driven a Mercedes, as
- 39:26you pull away, it starts off in second gear, and it's really soft.
- 39:30Now, when you're going about 100 miles an hour, you put your foot down, it moves.
- 39:33Unfortunately, until you get to about, I don't know, 40?
- 39:37It's a slug.
- 39:37I, I, I, I hate to say, I like the car.
- 39:40I mean, Quattros are Amazing cars to drive.
- 39:43They stick like glue.
- 39:45The sophistication in the, in the, uh, Quattros is amazing.
- 39:50Uh, I would, I would venture to say that it was more technically advanced in
- 39:54its day than anything else on the road.
- 39:56You know, there, there, there certainly weren't a lot of all wheel drive cars.
- 39:59This thing had switchable ABS, uh, front and rear fog lights,
- 40:02which were unheard of in the U.
- 40:03S.
- 40:04Not to mention when my parents were looking at their coupe Quattro, the
- 40:08salesman, you know, was showing off a black on black V8 Quattro, which
- 40:12was very rare color combination.
- 40:14Cause all of them were pearl white.
- 40:15For the most part, it was, uh, one of the only cars at the
- 40:18time to have an integrated.
- 40:20car phone and that was a selling point.
- 40:22Yes.
- 40:22Yes.
- 40:23Well, you know, the neat thing was it had a ski sack and all four seats were heated.
- 40:27Put that all in perspective.
- 40:28You know, we, uh, Eric and I have had this, this, these conversations
- 40:31before as well, which is, yeah, but that car, you know, that car sucked.
- 40:35Right.
- 40:35But in 1988, was amazing, but the V8, the V8 was more practical.
- 40:43I, I made the mistake of driving the E28 M5 to work one day when it snowed.
- 40:47My boss's boss and I were, were in the car as I am idling out of the parking lot,
- 40:52sideways, and he's laughing at me because he goes, what the hell's with this thing?
- 40:56Well, that's how a high horsepower car with, uh, with independent
- 40:59suspension and, and, and summer tires happens to handle the weather.
- 41:03The Quattro, as long as you put real tires on it, and I learned that
- 41:06from experience, was unstoppable.
- 41:08Uh, I drove it to work one day, and there was probably two inches
- 41:11of snow in the fast lane, and all the, uh, all the big giant SUVs were
- 41:16poking along in the, in the clear slow lane at about 20 miles an hour.
- 41:20And I went by them at about 35, you know, rooster tails of snow, with
- 41:23my seat heater on, and the radio on, cruising along as if it were dry.
- 41:27But yeah, I think, I think, I think those would be my, my, my three.
- 41:31So what I've heard so far is we're on an island.
- 41:33Yes, there's no price point We got guys bringing trucks to transport.
- 41:38I don't know coconuts or something We got Mike with the station wagon
- 41:41for to move Aborigines around again.
- 41:44The island is a metaphor So I'm defining the island here and I
- 41:50find my island as Nurburgring.
- 41:53Yeah Really a racetrack.
- 41:55I mean New Zealand has racetracks And is kind of an island.
- 41:58And you're transporting sheep.
- 42:00I mean, you got all these wagons on your island.
- 42:02I'm not sure what's going on here.
- 42:04Seven sheep per person.
- 42:05Yes, they are warm and affectionate animals.
- 42:07Indeed.
- 42:07Thank you, Matthew.
- 42:08So on my island, on the other hand, I would have a 70 Challenger RT in white
- 42:15with a vanity plate that says Kowalski.
- 42:18Yes.
- 42:18Very straightforward car that's dirt primitive, big V8, and just
- 42:23go rip roaring and have some fun.
- 42:25In addition to that, I want a metallic emerald green Mark 1
- 42:29Scirocco with a 16 valve swap.
- 42:31I swear, I thought you were going to say a Buick Skylark convertible there.
- 42:35Again, my money is on the Chevy Citation.
- 42:38Thank you very, very much.
- 42:40HHR.
- 42:42That will not be on my island.
- 42:44No Priuses, there will be bazookas and turrets ready to
- 42:47blow those cars up at first sight.
- 42:49So in addition to that, I would have to say, I gotta have a Gen 1 Viper, but
- 42:54not the Gen 1 Viper you're thinking of.
- 42:56It's not a GTS Coupe.
- 42:58It's not a Targa.
- 42:59I would have the Defender from Viper the TV series, because hey, it's my island,
- 43:04and apparently no one else lives on there, so why not enjoy my boyish fantasy?
- 43:08So I have to ask, The defender does it count as multiple vehicles since it's
- 43:12got your off road option your water option Well, that's why I want it on my
- 43:16island because realistically it is an suv Okay, it is a sport utility vehicle.
- 43:22I can turn it into a pontoon.
- 43:24I can turn it into all sorts of things He's gonna use it to get off his island
- 43:30Yes, and I will also use it to blow up Priuses and HHRs, but realistically,
- 43:36because I can't have a movie car, it's a really hard tie between what's available.
- 43:41Since we're in, we've set no budget.
- 43:43If I could get an F40, that would definitely be in my garage.
- 43:47That is a car that in 87, when it came out, I have never stopped loving that car.
- 43:52It's an incredible design.
- 43:54It still looks good today.
- 43:54I've seen him in person.
- 43:56I can't wait to drive one in my afterlife.
- 43:58I don't know.
- 43:59What if I couldn't have one of those?
- 44:02I would definitely have a black on black Alpha GTV6.
- 44:07And this is the 1980s version, like we saw on Top Gear not too
- 44:10long ago, or the Grand Tour.
- 44:12All kidding aside, Brad, take us home.
- 44:14I think we've heard some really interesting debate here on what
- 44:18people want and why they want it.
- 44:20I don't necessarily agree with everybody's choices, but I'm sure
- 44:23nobody agrees with my choices either.
- 44:24And that's the beauty of individuality.
- 44:27And that's the debate we call, What Should I Buy?
- 44:30What should I buy?
- 44:30Yep.
- 44:31Which there will be plenty of other episodes discussing all kinds of different
- 44:35car categories for what should I buy?
- 44:37So on that note, I guess we'll go ahead and wrap it up.
- 44:40Thank you.
- 44:40Thank you, Matt, Mike, and Dan for, for stopping by and we welcome
- 44:44you guys for future episodes.
- 44:45So just, uh, since you mentioned you were making a list of your vehicles, I
- 44:49decided to start I'm nowhere near done.
- 44:51So when I do get it done for a future episode, we'll know how many
- 44:54vehicles I have owned over my ass.
- 44:55Man of life, but I'm only up to high school years and I'm sitting at about 30.
- 44:59Is there a database big enough to store this list?
- 45:02What's the over under on him?
- 45:03Finishing that list.
- 45:06And on that utter disappointment, exactly.
- 45:16In full disclosure, our high level assessment of all the cars on
