- 0:00The life force brings mobility and increased responsiveness
- 0:04compared to the physical being. It operates primarily under the
- 0:08impulsion of attraction and repulsion.
- 0:12The predominant quality or guna is rajas, which brings energy,
- 0:17action and progress, while at the same time its deformations
- 0:22can bring all manner of vital disturbances such as reactions
- 0:27of anger, greed, lust, vanity, fear, et cetera.
- 0:34Rajas tends to push beyond limits and if it does this to
- 0:38the physical body, eventually suffering can result, including
- 0:43breakdown of the body if the force was more than it could
- 0:46handle. When Rajas is rebuffed or
- 0:49disappointed, it tends to respond by falling into a
- 0:53temassic state. The vital being has a strong
- 0:57hold over the entire human being, and it is skilled in
- 1:02gaining the acquiescence and support of the mental being to
- 1:06justify and aid it in fulfillment of its desires.
- 1:11Without a strong vital nature, nothing much can be accomplished
- 1:14in the outer world, yet care must be exercised to eventually
- 1:19bring it under control of more disciplined and suck Wick
- 1:23impulses and to direct it towards the development of the
- 1:28higher consciousness. Once that happens, the vital can
- 1:32become as strong an ally as it can be an obstacle in its usual
- 1:37state of focus on the satisfaction of the desires of
- 1:41the external nature. Doctor de Lal notes quote the
- 1:48vital being intermediate between the physical and the mental.
- 1:53Is the vital made-up of life energies, sensations, pleasure,
- 1:58pain et cetera, instincts and impulses, anger, fear, lust, et
- 2:03cetera, desires, feelings and emotions?
- 2:09The vital from the Latin word Vita life is aptly so-called
- 2:14because it is the source of life force and seeks afterlife for
- 2:18its own sake, clinging to life even if it brings more of
- 2:23suffering than of pleasure. The vital consciousness is
- 2:26characterized by likes and dislikes, the search for
- 2:31pleasure and enjoyment, and the avoidance of pain and
- 2:34discomfort, desire to possess and to accumulate.
- 2:40Common attitudes based on the vital consciousness express a
- 2:44hedonistic orientation in life, what Freud referred to as the
- 2:48pleasure principle. Besides the quest for pleasure,
- 2:53these attitudes are characterized by a need for
- 2:55perpetual variety and change, ambitiousness, attachment and
- 3:00repulsion, aggression, fear, and impulsiveness.
