- 2:01So now let's get started.
- 2:03My conversation today is with New York Times bestselling author of 31 books.
- 2:08Every time I have an author on that's written like massive numbers of books, it just like blows my mind because I know how hard it is to write one book, and I've written about three.
- 2:18So 31 books and America's biblical health coach, Jordan Rubin, to talk about his newest book, The Bibliodiet Healing Secrets from the Bible.
- 2:28Jordan, thanks so much for being with me today.
- 2:30It's just such an honor to have you on the show.
- 2:33It is great to be here, Dr.
- 2:34Tenpenny.
- 2:35I appreciate the opportunity.
- 2:36And yeah, my hands are very sore from writing the books because Lord knows we do it by hand and pencil.
- 2:43Imagine if we did, though.
- 2:44That would be even tougher.
- 2:45So takes for real.
- 2:47I mean, it's just it's just astonishing to me that people uh first of all would have that much to say.
- 2:52And second of all, that could take the time to write that many books.
- 2:56That's just so congratulations.
- 2:58I'm just in awe of your work to be able to do that.
- 3:01That's just really wonderful.
- 3:03You know, uh, let's tell us a little bit.
- 3:05You know, what's interesting about your book is that you wrote this with Josh Axe.
- 3:09And so tell how that you did that together and you wove it together so masterfully.
- 3:14And but I did like how at places you would say, this is Josh talking, you know, in parentheses, or this is Jordan talking.
- 3:20So you could sort of tell the difference.
- 3:22But how did you decide to write it together and write it in such a crafty way?
- 3:27Well, uh uh Dr.
- 3:28Josh Axe has been a friend and protege of mine going back, gosh, I want to say almost 17 years.
- 3:35And he was a student in chiropractic college.
- 3:39His mom was going through a breast cancer battle.
- 3:42I think it was metastatic at the time, and he read one of my previous books, The Maker's Diet.
- 3:47It was helpful to him.
- 3:49And ultimately, we crossed paths, and he asked if he could be mentored by me.
- 3:56And when I say ask, uh, Sherry, he showed up on my doorstep.
- 4:00He was single at the time, asked if he could stay at my house, opened my fridge, and ate all my food.
- 4:04So we kind of joke about that.
- 4:07Uh, when you're not married, I almost think men who are bachelors could be considered undomesticated.
- 4:13You know, it's it's uh, I'm saying that I'm outing myself.
- 4:16So Josh and I have worked together on many projects.
- 4:19We started companies together, but we had never written a biblical health book together, and I knew how passionate he was about the topic.
- 4:27And I really believe, Sherry, that in almost anything, uh, two or better than one.
- 4:32The Bible says a cord of three strands is not easily broken.
- 4:37Um, but this partnership was great because as you know, in this day and age, when you have a message, when you write a book, when you believe it's something that is important that's bigger than you, it's great to be able to share each other's burdens.
- 4:52And for example, he could go on a podcast to talk about the book.
- 4:56I could go on a different podcast.
- 4:58And it allowed us to get this important message, this timely message to an audience quicker.
- 5:05And we agree, I would say, on 90% of nutritional topics and content.
- 5:13So where we disagreed, one of us would be more of the focus and uh and the disagreements are small, but uh everybody in our space and what I would say natural health has a different way of treating things or recommending or maybe even personally eating and supplementing.
- 5:33And so uh those differences actually, I believe made for a better book and a better message.
- 5:39You know, you mentioned in passing um the makers, the makers diet, your other book.
- 5:44How does this book, this new book, the bibliodiet differ from or build on what you wrote about in the maker's diet?
- 5:52You know, I would love to tell you that my study in 2003 when I wrote The Maker's Diet of the Bible, which is a book you can hold in your hand.
- 6:02We're not talking about a thousand volumes.
- 6:05You would think that if I set out for a year of my life to write a book about biblical health, that every tidbit of health information in this one book would be able to be uh weaved in my message.
- 6:21However, I believe that the Bible is not just any book.
- 6:25I believe it's living and active.
- 6:27That's what the Bible says.
- 6:28The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword.
- 6:33And for whatever reason, Dr.
- 6:35Sherry, there were things in the Bible that I would best describe as being hidden in plain sight when I wrote The Maker's Diet when I wrote the Great Physicians Prescription Series.
- 6:46These were all biblical health books, but God waited to reveal certain key revelations, as I'll call them for the biblio diet.
- 6:56And for the first time, I believe ever that I read, I share some of these.
- 7:00I share some of these.
- 7:01In addition, back in 2003 and 2004, you probably remember how much resistance we faced in our movement.
- 7:01In addition, back in 2003 and 2004, you probably remember how much resistance we faced in our movement.
- 7:10Now it's uh a little bit easier today, and we have a little more wind at our backs, but we were in a very different time.
- 7:10Now it's uh a little bit easier today, and we have a little more wind at our backs, but we were in a very different time.
- 7:18The health food movement was much more, I'll say behind the eight ball.
- 7:18The health food movement was much more, I'll say behind the eight ball.
- 7:24We didn't have as many resources to recommend to people.
- 7:24We didn't have as many resources to recommend to people.
- 7:27There weren't these really cool health food stores like Whole Foods.
- 7:27There weren't these really cool health food stores like Whole Foods and Sprouts and natural grocers everywhere.
- 7:33So also my audience at the time when I wrote the Maker's Diet was very uh focused on autoimmune disease, inflammatory bowel disease, real serious illness.
- 7:46So I wrote the maker's diet for someone who wanted a hardcore health plan that would help them climb out of their mess.
- 7:54Whereas the bibliodiet is really a book for everyone that will meet them at whatever point they are on in their health journey.
- 8:03And we really give I would say an opportunity to consume foods that people love that are biblically correct, but we help you walk from worst to good to better to best, so that people can read it and not just immediately close it and give up because they have to get rid of everything in their pantry in their fridge, and what are their kids going to do and what's my husband going to eat?
- 8:28So I think the bibliodiet is an approachable book for everyone who believes that God is the author and finisher of our faith, and even people that don't and simply want to eat in a way that is biologically correct for our bodies.
- 8:45So that is a long answer, but the bibliodet really uh introduces new revelation.
- 8:51And because the Bible is this living and active word, even since we wrote the bibliodiet, there's still new revelation that I'm reading as I go through the Bible systematically, which just blows my mind because you would think we could learn everything in the book, but it's a lifetime of study.
- 9:11Yeah, just the book itself is a lifetime of study, not only just looking for certain things in terms of studying, which is just amazing.
- 9:18You know, and I do like that about your book, the bibliodiet that you you give people grace.
- 9:23You're like, this is the way, you know, that the Bible says to eat, but you know, if you want to eat bacon once in a while, eat bacon once in a while, you know?
- 9:31And so you give people you don't really give them an out, but you give them grace that as they're transitioning more towards a more healthy diet and eliminating things that are not good for them or that they shouldn't eat or to make better choices.
- 9:44Um, it it's kind of because what happens with so many diet books, as you well know, it's an all or nothing.
- 9:51Either you're all in or don't even bother to read the book.
- 9:54And your book, this book, the bibliod, it I guess the best way to say it is it gives people grace.
- 10:01It's like, okay, I know I need to stop eating that.
- 10:03I um I'll cut back to, you know, I'll cut back and I'll cut back and I'll cut back until I get to that.
- 10:08And and you celebrate that with them.
- 10:10So it's a really, it's really cool about the way that you present it that way.
- 10:14Well, I like to say that the bibliodiet is the only health plan I know of that not only allows but recommends red meat, dairy, bread, fat, and salt, because for too long, and I can remember all the diet phases that have come along in the last 30, almost 35 years, and many of them are really just you're just white knuckling, grinning and bearing it, and you can't wait till you get quote unquote off the diet.
- 10:48The bibliod's really a lifestyle, and I think it's one that families can live, love, and thrive on.
- 10:58And I'm kind of a foodie.
- 11:00Josh is definitely a foodie, and we love to eat good healthy food.
- 11:05Sherry, I grew up the son of a chiropractor and a naturopathic doctor.
- 11:09And back in the 70s and 80s, health food tasted like twigs, rocks, and I mean, this stuff was horrible.
- 11:19And now, fast forward, there are delicious, truly healthful foods that we can eat.
- 11:25And I feel like my children who have never eaten fast food, at least uh the ones uh under my roof, they've never had vaccines.
- 11:34I mean, we share a lot of common beliefs.
- 11:36I don't think they're missing anything.
- 11:38In fact, the only thing they're missing is the lack of health, the lack of cognition, the uh multiple sick days, all the other nonsense that people have to deal with.
- 11:49Uh, you'll appreciate this.
- 11:50I have an 18-year-old daughter who has just traveled intensively internationally, and then uh here on a domestic trip, and she came what we'll say came down with a very severe flu.
- 12:02This tells you how medically minded we are.
- 12:05She's 18 years old.
- 12:07Now we adopted her at two days old.
- 12:09So we've had her since she was two days.
- 12:12She had a fever, and we checked her temperature.
- 12:15And Sherry, this was the first time we ever took her temperature in her entire life.
- 12:20She didn't know how to do it.
- 12:21I just said, hold it under your tongue.
- 12:23It's electronic.
- 12:24And it was a pretty good fever, and we were watching it.
- 12:28It got up to 104.
- 12:29We didn't, I don't even have any NSAIDs in the house.
- 12:32We did the natural things, and I told her, I said, you know what, Alexa, this is going to be the best cleanse you've had in a long time because she's like, Dad, my knees are hurting.
- 12:41And I said, Well, those are compounds that the body's producing that we couldn't even buy or inject you with.
- 12:47There's interferons and there's all kinds of interleukins being produced.
- 12:52And so, point being, um, everybody's on their own journey.
- 12:56So many people I meet say, Jordan, I've just learned about the healthy way of living, but I'm so confused.
- 13:03I don't know if this is good or that's good.
- 13:06Should I be keto carnivore, vegan, somewhere in between a lacto-ovopescitarian?
- 13:12I believe, and this is where the the name came about.
- 13:16People talked all about the paleo diet, the paleo diet.
- 13:19And I personally don't believe we originated from apes or that we lived in caves.
- 13:25Well, I guess technically we lived in homes in caves.
- 13:28That's my worldview is not hundreds of thousands of years of human existence.
- 13:33And so I said a lot of people who believe in the Bible want to not go around saying I'm following a paleo diet, but what about a biblio diet?
- 13:43And that's where the name came from, some 10 plus years ago.
- 13:46And I said, Well, you don't have to be a pescatarian, a vegetarian, a vegan, a carnivore, a keto.
- 13:53You can be a bibliotarian and follow the historical diet and lifestyle found in the Bible.
- 14:00Found in the Bible.
- 14:01And that's what we're trying to do is raise up a uh an army of bibliotarians.
- 14:01And that's what we're trying to do is raise up a uh an army of bibliotarians.
- 14:06That's great.
- 14:06That's great.
- 14:08I just love the way that you explain that too.
- 14:08I just love the way that you explain that too.
- 14:10You know, one of the things that you you spend a lot of time on, and you talk about a lot in your book, The Biblio Diet is about fasting, and that you're a big fan of fasting, and you even define several different types of fasts.
- 14:10You know, one of the things that you you spend a lot of time on, and you talk about a lot in your book, The Biblio Diet is about fasting and that you're a big fan of fasting, and you even define several different types of fasts.
- 14:23What is the benefit of fasting, both physically and spiritually for people?
- 14:23What is the benefit of fasting, both physically and spiritually for people?
- 14:27And how do you choose the right fast for you?
- 14:27And how do you choose the right fast for you?
- 14:30Sherry, I would almost ask another question and say, what aren't the benefits of fasting?
- 14:35So let me go back historically and say that fasting not only unlocks the healer within, not only in Isaiah 58, starting with verse six in the Bible, does the word of God say that fasting can unlock your health potential?
- 14:51It can transform your mood, it can break addictions, but it also says that when you do it, God speaks to you about ways to help mankind.
- 15:01Such a great passage of scripture.
- 15:02And that really is the definitive passage on fasting.
- 15:06But in medical literature, there have been documented cases of severe autoimmune disease, including juvenile rheumatoid arthritis with symptoms being completely ameliorated with fasting.
- 15:21That and I would say water fasting.
- 15:23Now we all know that as a child or even as an adult, you cannot go on extended water fasts without losing muscle and even other healthy tissue.
- 15:35And especially when you're a child or a teenager, that prime growth period, you want to be very careful with that.
- 15:42So what we have done is tried to make fasting approachable for everyone.
- 15:47Case in point, it is where I am 11, 18 a.m.
- 15:53And I haven't eaten anything, and I'm not even thinking about eating anything, perhaps today until dinner.
- 15:59I will fit food in when it works for my schedule, but I am sharp.
- 16:03I am alert.
- 16:04I feel like if I'm going to do a podcast, if I'm going to write, if I'm going to research, if I'm going to participate in a sport, I would rather do it in a fasted state because my metabolism is working more.
- 16:19My brain is being powered likely by an alternate fuel source, ketones, and I'm going to enjoy and even digest my food better when I eat this afternoon or this evening because I've given my body a rest.
- 16:36So many people are struggling with excess inflammation.
- 16:40Maybe they're dealing with a cancer diagnosis or an overabundance of toxicity.
- 16:46The body wants to heal if you will give it the opportunity.
- 16:51But when we're constantly eating, especially an ultra processed borderline garbage diet, your body is fighting off friendly fire, and it doesn't have a chance to go and truly cleanse.
- 17:06I'm a big believer in cleansing and detoxification.
- 17:09I think you can consume certain herbs and spices and certain beverages and fats and more.
- 17:16But the best way to detoxify is to let your body do what it was created to do.
- 17:21And if you can't fast or you feel like it's difficult to go a day or three days or a week, then try a modified intermittent fast.
- 17:33Maybe it's something you could call time restricted eating and skip breakfast.
- 17:37And then if you feel like it, skip lunch.
- 17:40The term breakfast, break fast should be whenever you break your fast, because we all fast for presumably the night overnight.
- 17:50The first time you eat should not be three hours, six hours from the last time you eat.
- 17:57We have it backwards.
- 17:58And in the Bible and also through history and all my research that I've done, people did not eat three, four, five, six times a day.
- 18:07And they certainly didn't have a midnight snack and some kind of junky donut at 6 a.m.
- 18:13in the morning.
- 18:14In fact, I have ancestors, relatives that are Jewish, and when I interview them, and this they lived all over the world, primarily Eastern Europe, they barely ate anything in the morning.
- 18:26They had a light lunch.
- 18:27Their primary meal was really at dinner when the work was done.
- 18:31If you're in a battle, when the fighting is over and you eat in the evening, but you don't eat after it gets dark because back in the day we didn't have artificial light.
- 18:41So eating and living within the balance of the body is the best way to go.
- 18:46And again, I'm not going to tell you to eat twigs, rocks, and a few berries.
- 18:51I mentioned earlier, and if you're just joining, the bibliod not only allows but highly recommends red meat, dairy, red, salt, and fat, but I give you the types of each food that are the healthiest, the most natural, and have caused our ancestors to thrive in a way far greater than we have in this generation for millennia.
- 19:19You know, that's so interesting.
- 19:20And you talk about that, what you just explained in your book about eating that big meal at the end of the day after you've been out working in the fields all day.
- 19:28And that's when you sit down to break bread, and when you read about back in the day in the Romans time, they would recline at dinner time and it would take hours, and they would they would it would be community and family and just they would commune and all those things.
- 19:42But we've been taught differently.
- 19:44You know, we've been taught to eat like a king at breakfast, a prince at lunch, and a pauper at dinner, and don't eat anything after seven o'clock at night and get all your calories in during the day because that's when you're going to burn them up the most.
- 19:56But I find that it's true that if you don't eat in the morning, you you're you have more clarity.
- 20:02I I had a doctor tell me one time I was at a conference years ago, it was a it was an integrative conference.
- 20:07We were eating lunch, and I had him tell me that he thought that from a blood chemistry perspective and an energy perspective, some of the healthiest people, and I say that in air quotes, that he ever took care of were anorexics because they didn't eat and they didn't have all this inflammatory stuff in it.
- 20:25Now, I don't want anybody to think that I'm advocating for that, but I'm just saying that we eat so much that we really don't need to eat, and we eat it at the wrong times of day.
- 20:35And I really appreciate in your book, The Bibliodiet, where you actually talk about the types of red meat and the types of grains and the types of fermented dairy like kefir and things like that that are so much better for you.
- 20:48The one thing that you talk about a lot too is the the bad, the downside of seed oils, and that seed oils are just, you know, I feel sometimes when I go to the grocery store, I always told my patients you're you you should shop around the edges, and the only aisle you're allowed to go down is the one with laundry detergent and toilet paper, because everything else in those aisles is pretty much junk, and you see these bright color packagings, and they sort of like leap out on you, like with they're like, you know, all over.
- 21:00Should shop around the edges, and the only aisle you're allowed to go down is the one with laundry detergent and toilet paper, because everything else in those aisles is pretty much junk.
- 21:09And you see these bright color packagings, and they sort of like leap out on you, like with they're like, you know, all over.
- 21:16And you talk about in the book the hateful eights that come from vegetable oils.
- 21:16And you talk about in the book the hateful eights that come from vegetable oils.
- 21:21Give us just a little sampling of that of what of why they're so bad for us.
- 21:21Give us just a little sampling of that of what of why they're so bad for us.
- 21:25Well, first, let me tell you I have this sort of deadly dozen.
- 21:25Well, first, let me tell you I have this sort of deadly dozen, and I've had this and taught it for over 25 years.
- 21:34And it starts with unclean or detestable animals, and that would primarily be pork and shellfish.
- 21:40And I can't unpack that all now, but I do believe that certain meats are designed to eat and certain animals are designed to clean up the waste.
- 21:50That would be the pig, that would be the shrimp, the lobster, the muscle, the crab, etc.
- 21:56Number two, I would say diet or artificial sweeteners.
- 21:59And back in the day, I would say in pink, yellow, and blue packets, if people remember or if they're still around.
- 22:06I don't eat at places where I have those packets, but I'm sure they do.
- 22:10And number three, I would say damaged, ultra processed oils.
- 22:15Calling them vegetable oils is probably uh a little bit of a farce, but these oils are highly processed.
- 22:22And really, Sherry, the bottom line is they could not have been made a couple of hundred years ago.
- 22:27So there's no way to get oil that is clear and stable out of a sunflower.
- 22:34Like it's just not possible.
- 22:36In the Bible, you look at olive oil and olives.
- 22:39If you hold them in a press, extra virgin olive oil.
- 22:44And I've seen this in Greece and other European countries and Israel, they have olives and they have a stone.
- 22:51And the weight of the stone, without you doing anything, gently presses the oil out of the olive fruit primarily.
- 23:01And that was easily done without modern technology.
- 23:06When it comes to canola oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, grape seed oil, cotton seed oil, rice bran oil, and more.
- 23:17The processing that you have to go through to create a stable, deodorized, basically tasteless golden oil is immense.
- 23:30You need to build massive infrastructure and factories to extract oil from these seeds.
- 23:37And when you do, they have been processed, they've been stripped of any nutrients, and they are high in a inflammatory fat called linoleic acid, which is not bad for us in the appropriate amounts, but in the modern diet, it makes up well over 10% of our total calories.
- 24:00Whereas in the quote unquote olden days, it was probably three percent or less.
- 24:07And if you eat a diet even more geared towards ultra processed foods, think consuming cereal for breakfast and then some kind of bread that has seed oils in it for lunch with maybe peanut butter that has added seed oils for that lunch.
- 24:26And then for dinner, you're eating processed foods, processed desserts, things that you get at a bakery where they print out a label that has 60 ingredients.
- 24:35One of my I'll say uh diet lessons or advice would be thou shalt not eat anything with 20 or more ingredients.
- 24:45There's just not enough good ingredients.
- 24:47I like ingredient lists that say Apple contains apple.
- 24:52Of course, you could argue that our apples have all this stuff on the skin.
- 24:55And anyway, um, I'm not suggesting that food hasn't changed in many ways for the worse, but you can still eat single ingredient foods no matter where you live, no matter what budget you're on, you can do it affordably, in fact, even more affordably than quote unquote fast food, and you can begin to see the diseases of the modern day evaporate.
- 25:20And it's interesting, Sherry.
- 25:21I'm working on a new book or at least an outline of a new book, and I'm looking at the top diseases by population in America, and it's just so scary.
- 25:34I was trying to create chapters on certain diseases, and at first I thought, well, I'll do 10 chapters on the top 10 diseases.
- 25:43Sherry, I'm up to 35 chapters because there's so many diseases that are common.
- 25:48I don't want to leave any out because I want to give people hope and information.
- 25:54But this is horrible that I can't write a document with less than 35 disease names because I'm gonna leave a big part of the population out if I don't, and I've even left things out like for current urinary tract infections, which is a big issue, but you can't leave out depression and anxiety, you can't leave out heart disease, you can't leave out dementia, Alzheimer's, et cetera.
- 26:18But then what about acne and eczema and psoriasis and not just osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis again, and it can't be one type of cancer because cancer is wreaking havoc with so many different diagnoses.
- 26:33So if we continue to consume processed foods, as you mentioned, in the middle of the store with shiny bright labels and boxes, we are digging our grave, or worse, we're setting up decades of pain and suffering in body and mind, and it's just not okay anymore.

- 34:14Boy, I love that title.
- 34:16Jordan Rubin to talk about his book, The Biblio Diet and Healing Secrets from the Bible.
- 34:21Let me tell you just a little bit more about Jordan Rubin.
- 34:24Jordan is a New York Times bestselling author.
- 34:27Um in the early 1990s, a near fatal struggle with Crohn's disease led him to discover a biblically based diet that became the foundation of his healing.
- 34:36His recovery was the foundation of The Maker's Diet published in 1996.
- 34:42He later overcame terminal cancer in 2008 after being told he had just 90 days to live.
- 34:48From these battles, Jordan Rubin founded Garden of Life or Beyond Organic and Ancient Nutrition.
- 34:56With a degree in naturopathic medicine and certifications and nutrition and fitness, Jordan has served as an expert lecturer around the world.

- 35:16Jordan, thank you so much for being on our show here today.
- 35:16Jordan, thank you so much for being on our show here today.
- 35:19Man, you don't have a spare minute in your life, do you?
- 35:19Man, you don't have a spare minute in your life, do you?
- 35:22Uh, it doesn't appear that way.
- 35:22Uh it doesn't appear that way, but you know what?
- 35:24But you know what?
- 35:24I love what I do.
- 35:24I love what I do, and I think um the Bible verse to whom much is given.
- 35:26And I think um the Bible verse to whom much is given, much is required or expected, has really been something I've tried to live by.
- 35:34And it's I would say easier for people like us to broadcast, to do interviews, to write books, et cetera.
- 35:42But what I am most, I'll say blessed by is being able to help individuals, which I don't do it all the time, but I get opportunities kind of one-on-one and see them overcome lifelong or even recent debilitating diseases.
- 35:59So I know that without someone extending a hand to me and reaching into the mire and pulling me out of that pit, ultimately inspired by God, I wouldn't be here.
- 36:10So it's exciting to share this message.
- 36:13And when I write a book, I want to always be cognizant of the one person that's on the other end reading it that I can offer people information that doesn't just give them answers, but gives them hope.
- 36:28You know, Sherry, I've been around the world speaking to people about health and nutrition for almost 30 years.
- 36:34And I know people are deficient in minerals like zinc.
- 36:37They need more omega-3s.
- 36:39Their microbiome is completely out of whack and they need more probiotics.
- 36:44But the number one deficiency that I see from coast to coast and around the world is hope.
- 36:49So more than anything, I want to be an ambassador of hope.
- 36:53I want to shout from the rooftops that I've been able to overcome inflammatory bowel disease, terminal cancer, and more uh through the grace of God and the power of his creation.
- 37:05And I think that's gonna be for somebody listening or watching right now, because they maybe are hopeless.
- 37:12Maybe it's their child, maybe it's their aging parent.
- 37:15Maybe it is a diagnosis that's left them with years or months to live.
- 37:23I am here to tell you there is hope.
- 37:26There is answers, and God is able to meet you at your deepest point of need.
- 37:33He doesn't need a book or a food or a beverage or a product, but sometimes he chooses to use a process for healing.
- 37:41And I often find Sherry that that is more for somebody on the other end than even for you, because when I was a hundred and four pounds in a wheelchair battling Crohn's colitis at 19 years old, I went from doctor to doctor, and they had these great credentials and diplomas on the wall.
- 38:03And I didn't want to know how much they knew or how many people they've treated.
- 38:08I wanted to know and find someone who had been where I was and was now an overcomer, a conqueror.
- 38:15And I ultimately made the commitment that if I would get well, I would be someone who could share that message of health and hope and say, I was where you are, and I want to help you join me in healing.
- 38:30Wow.
- 38:31What a what an incredible mission, Jordan.
- 38:33That's just really incredible.
- 38:34You know, right before the break, we were talking a lot about vegetable oils and you know, seed oils.
- 38:40And in your book, um, there's there's a quote that I want to I want to share with the audience.
- 38:45You said in the in your book, The Bibliodiet that quote, vegetable oil is the cash cow of the food service industry.
- 38:53And without it, the food industry would likely destruct.
- 38:57Why did you why do you say that?
- 38:59And uh, what can we what can we eat healthily instead?
- 39:03Well, I'm gonna answer the second part of the question and say that the same oils and fats that our ancestors have eaten are still so good.
- 39:11And some of the ones in the bibliodiet may surprise you.
- 39:14I am a big fan of dairy fat, butter.
- 39:18If you can't tolerate butter, ghee, which is clarified butter, I think cream is amazing, particularly if it's raw and uh unprocessed.
- 39:28In fact, since writing the bibliodiet, I was reading in the book of Job as this man who had lost everything, his wealth, his family and his health.
- 39:37He was talking to God and he said, in my prime, the streets flowed with cream and the rocks poured out olive oil.
- 39:47And I said to myself, Sherry, if Job, who is a blessed man, now lost everything, was talking about the prime of his life and he used terminology related to dairy fat, cream, and olive oil, how are these not good for us?
- 40:02So those are two good examples.
- 40:04Dairy fat, olive oil, nuts, and seeds can be good in their unprocessed form, not in the form of seed oils.
- 40:11But the reason that we avoid those fats, coconut oil is good, even cocoa butter is good.
- 40:18These are good oils.
- 40:19The reason we avoid them in uh stead, using seed oils is seed oils are abundant, they're cheap, they last a long time because they're stripped of all nutrition, and they give extra calories, mouth feel, and they can be the backbone of sauces, dressings.
- 40:41Sadly, there's a health food chain.
- 40:43I'm not going to name names.
- 40:44There are actually a few of them.
- 40:45If you go to their prepared food section and read the ingredients, which most people don't because they assume that if food is in this particular health food store, it's got to be good.
- 40:56They almost all contain canola, safflower, sunflower oil, or worse, it gives you calories.
- 41:02It gives you that mouthfeel, fills you up, and it's so cheap.
- 41:08Butter actually has to come from a cow and it is minimally processed and it doesn't have a long shelf life.
- 41:15These are things that we need, but we are not getting them because the processed foods or ultra-processed foods that our children and we are eating for convenience are loaded with what is now being deemed as seed oils.
- 41:33We used to call them hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils, damaged fats, whatever they are, they are death to us.
- 41:41We need to get back to fats that are more natural.
- 41:44I didn't mention a couple of others because I have a whole chapter uh that's devoted to the fat of the land, which is considered a blessing in the Bible.
- 41:52If you follow my decrees, do what I've called you to do, says the Lord.
- 41:57You will eat the fat of the land.
- 41:59And even from God's perspective, Sherry, dating back to Cain and Abel, they, those two brothers, the sons of Adam and Eve, they each made a sacrifice to God.
- 42:00Even from God's perspective, Sherry, dating back to Cain and Abel, they, those two brothers, the sons of Adam and Eve, they each made a sacrifice to God.
- 42:13Cain from the fruit of the land and Abel from the flocks.
- 42:13Cain from the fruit of the land and Abel from the flocks.
- 42:18And the fat portions were a pleasing aroma unto the Lord.
- 42:18And the fat portions were a pleasing aroma unto the Lord.
- 42:22We call fat fat.
- 42:22We call fat fat.
- 42:24We named it that way.
- 42:24We named it that way.
- 42:25So people don't want to be fat, so they think fat's bad.
- 42:25So people don't want to be fat, so they think fat's bad.
- 42:28Fat is a blessing.
- 42:28Fat is a
- 42:30We use terminology like the cream always rises to the top, the cream of the crop.
- 42:35That's how a dairy farmer used to judge if they were doing a good job or not, was by the fat.
- 42:40Fat can be great or fat can be downright terrible.
- 42:44And the processed food and food service industries, they are being propped up by seed oils.
- 42:52I don't want to get into all these details, but your show probably welcomes it.
- 42:56There's government subsidies on these crummy monocrop genetically modified grains that are destroying the soil.
- 43:06They're from corn, they're from soy, they're from canola, and it is a travesty.
- 43:12You know, Sherry, I was in Greece two years ago to the Greek islands, and we went to some amazing olive groves and orchards.
- 43:20And what I noticed in Greece, at least where I was, when you have any empty land, there were olive trees there producing beautiful fruit, oil, and leaves.
- 43:32But in America, I live in the Nashville, Tennessee area.
- 43:36Everywhere there's an empty space, it's corn and soy, which is going to be used as animal feed, oil for the industry, citric acid, all these chemicals, such a difference.
- 43:49We are taking this precious land we have, and we are creating garbage food stuff.
- 43:57And it is again causing so many issues that we deal with today, but there is hope.
- 44:04There are good fats.
- 44:05And here's the thing, Sherry.
- 44:06Most people love butter.
- 44:08Most people love coconut.
- 44:10Most people love avocado.
- 44:12Most people love egg yolks.
- 44:13Most people love fatty cuts of meat or salmon.
- 44:18And now we're giving you permission or even an admonition to eat them.
- 44:23Wow.
- 44:24That's really really good news because that really is the best stuff.
- 44:27You know, towards the end of your book, and you mentioned it a little bit in passing about with your trip to Greece.
- 44:33Toward the end of your book, you have an entire chapter on healing leaves.
- 44:38Tell us about healing, the benefits of healing leaves.
- 44:42This is going to be, I'm going to say this now, the most amazing revelation.
- 44:49I don't want to say discovery because it was always there of my life.
- 44:52I have read the Bible through easily 50 times, probably more than a hundred times.
- 44:58And I have consistently come across a passage in Ezekiel chapter 47, verse 12, and another that echoes a very similar message in Revelation 22, verse 2.
- 45:12And if you piece them together, you see a future city, which some people call heaven or eternity.
- 45:20And you see a sanctuary with water flowing from it that forms a river.
- 45:24And on the sides of the river are trees, fruit trees.
- 45:29In Revelation, it says it's the tree of life, which is what gave Adam and Eve eternal life when they would consume it.
- 45:37God removed them from the garden and from the tree because of sin.
- 45:41And we've been spending arguably our entire life trying to get back to that garden, that tree of life.
- 45:48So in Ezekiel and Revelation, the verses say some version of the fruit will be for food, which we all have no problem eating fruit, love fruit, and the leaves are for healing or the healing of the nations.
- 46:03Sherry, I had God speak to me out of Ezekiel 47, 12, as close to audible as one could speak in April of 2019, seven-ish years ago.
- 46:21And I knew I would never be the same.
- 46:23I realized as a farmer and as a, I'll say health and wellness educator, that these leaves of fruit trees could be the answer to healing from most of the conditions we battle.
- 46:41And what's crazy is the trillions of people that have read the Bible throughout history, have seemingly like me missed this fact.
- 46:49Now we consume green tea and black tea and white tea.
- 46:52We consume peppermint and all kinds of herbs and spices.
- 46:56But there's only two things in scripture that God says are healing, medicine or therapy, and those are fruit tree leaves.
- 47:05Sherry, in the ancient Hebrew, the word is terufa.
- 47:10The leaves are for healing, terufa, which Rafa is the root word for healer, God the healer, and terufa is the modern-day therapy in Hebrew.
- 47:24Then fast forward to the Greek in Revelation, where the Bible says the leaves are for the healing of the nations.
- 47:31The Greek word is therapea, again, medicine, healing therapy.
- 47:37And I felt like this was a physical recommendation by God.
- 47:44And I started in 2019 making a tea out of fruit tree leaves.
- 47:51And what's great about this, Sherry, is that these aren't only apples, oranges, and grapes.
- 47:57These extend to trees, bushes and shrubs, and nuts and fruit that we wouldn't even consider a part of our normal diet.
- 48:10In fact, if it's spring where you are getting to be in the summer, you could go into almost any forest or botanical garden or even your backyard and find fruit trees or leaves from oak or walnut or muscadine or mulberry.
- 48:29My grandparents had mulberry bushes in New York in their backyard.
- 48:32We have oak trees.
- 48:34And someone might say, Jordan, oak trees, these leaves fall on the ground and we rake them up and throw them in the trash.
- 48:40Yes, you do.
- 48:41But many of us during the COVID period were buying quercetin, which is a supplement.
- 48:47It's a flavonoid that's great for your immune system, anti-allergy.
- 48:52Sherry quercetin was discovered from oak tree leaves.
- 48:56Oak is from the genus Quercus.
- 48:59So a white oak is called Quercus Alba.
- 49:00Is called Quercus Alba.
- 49:02All of these trees are hidden in plain sight.
- 49:02All of these trees are hidden in plain sight.
- 49:06Their abundant leaves are free.
- 49:06Their abundant leaves are free.
- 49:09In fact, if you trim a tree, it usually grows better.
- 49:09In fact, if you trim a tree, it usually grows better.
- 49:12They capture the power of the sun.
- 49:12They capture the power of the sun.
- 49:14They're loaded with antioxidants.
- 49:14They're loaded with antioxidants.
- 49:16And here's what I love about God's healing message called healing leaves.
- 49:16And here's what I love about God's healing message called Healing Leaves.
- 49:21The nations that are first and second world that are the poorest on the planet have the greatest access to fruit tree leaves because they don't have all the
- 49:21The nations that are first and second world that are the poorest on the planet have the greatest access to fruit tree leaves because they don't have all the industry.
- 49:30We didn't cut down all the trees in Africa and India and other remote regions of the planet.
- 49:37If people would just take the Bible at its word, and instead of following the latest health fad, use something that God calls healing, I believe you will see anti-inflammatory results, immune boosting results.
- 49:53You'll see lower blood sugar or more stabilized blood sugar, and these fruit tree leaves contain compounds that are antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic.
- 50:07In fact, Sherry, we have goats and sheep, water buffalo, cows, all kinds of animals.
- 50:11And instead of deworming them with medicine, we use fruit tree leaves as natural dewormers.
- 50:18They contain similar compounds and benefit that you would find in ivermectin, fenbendazol, mabendazole.
- 50:25This is God's plan for us.
- 50:27So I've been consuming fruit tree leaf tea for seven years, including one quart or liter this morning.
- 50:34I've recommended it to about 50 people.
- 50:36And I first talked about it in the biblio diet.
- 50:40Anyone can do it.
- 50:41And uh, in fact, where we most recently saw each other at that health event in North Carolina, that was the first time I actually shared a ready-made healing leaves product with, I'll say the world, but it was with the kind, wonderful people in Tryon, North Carolina.
- 50:58So I have been uh passionate about this.
- 51:01I will uh when my life is over, I believe I will look back and say that one of the greatest things that God has done through me is illuminate these two verses.
- 51:12And if I could get people, instead of consuming black tea, green tea to consume fruit tree leaf tea, they will be doing something directly based on God's word.
- 51:24And what could be better than that?
- 51:26Wow, that's fabulous, Jordan.
- 51:29That's absolutely fabulous.
- 51:31Um, you know, we've just got a couple of minutes left in our in our time here together today, but just excuse me, there's two questions I want to ask you.
- 51:39The first one is where do people get this marvelous tea that they're gonna they're gonna hear you that they've heard you talk about this fruit leaf tree, fruit leaf tea.
- 51:48That's kind of a tongue twister.
- 51:50First, where can they get that?
- 51:51And and then I'll ask you the follow-up question as we close out today.
- 51:54Well, let me give two uh destinations.
- 51:57So, number one, if you're listening and you want to learn about healing leaves and the recipe, because really I want to give it to the world, you can go to JordanRubin.com and download chapter 14 of the Biblio Diet for free.
- 52:12You can send it to anyone you want to.
- 52:14It'll tell you about healing leaves and give you the recipe.
- 52:17If you want to purchase healing leaves, because after hearing God's voice, I planted with my team nearly one million fruit trees in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
- 52:30And now they are producing leaves and fruit.
- 52:33So we have combined 12 regenerative organic certified fruit tree leaves into a loose leaf tea or tea bags, and you can check that out at healingleaves.com.
- 52:46Wow.
- 52:47That's that just gave me goosebumps.
- 52:49That's just fabulous.
- 52:50That's just so cool.
- 52:51I hope we'll put those that also down in the show notes and make sure that everybody does that because this is this is your gift to the world.
- 52:57I mean, it's God's gift through you to the world amazing.
- 53:00And one last thing, just as we have a couple of minutes left here, you know, there are thousands, literally, thousands of different diet books out on the on the market.
- 53:09Why should people take this one seriously and buy this one and incorporate that into their lifestyle?
- 53:15Well, we do believe that the bibliodiet can help you master metabolism.
- 53:21It can help you reduce pain, it can help you fight depression, it can help you live longer and even conquer cancer with the healing secrets from the Bible.
- 53:31And I believe, Dr.
- 53:33Tenpany, it's a diet for life.
- 53:36And if somebody believes that God created us, I think it's imperative that they understand what He created for us to eat and live a long abundant life like our biblical heroes, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, and so many others who live long abundant lives with the same body that we have.
- 53:59So I think this is a plan that can be generational.
- 54:03You're gonna love what you eat.
- 54:04Remember, you can eat red meat.
- 54:06In fact, I highly recommend it.
- 54:08You can eat salt, fat, dairy, and bread.
- 54:12I'll tell you the best kinds you can eat.
- 54:15And I think you're gonna see a great improvement, not only by eating what God created, but by honoring him and saying, God, I believe what you said, not what the latest and greatest health influencer said, not what the uh diet that's named after a doctor said, but this is a plan straight out of the pages of scripture.
- 54:39And if that's what you're interested in, then this is the book for you.
- 54:44Amen to that.
- 54:45Woohoo.
- 54:46Amen to that.
- 54:46I just want to stand up and shout, amen to that, because it's so true.
- 54:50And your walk with the Lord is just so inspiring, also, Jordan.
- 54:53And just it just radiates through you.
- 54:55And that's what we are intended to do.
- 54:57We're supposed to make disciples and share the word of God and you do it through your work and through uh the processes that you do and on all of the books that you've done.
- 55:06And it's just been such a pleasure to spend this time with you here today.
- 55:09And I'm I'm right behind you on saying that this book, The Biblial Diet is really, really a good book.
- 55:15It's easy to read, it's easy to incorporate and uh and really make it into a lifestyle and not just uh uh a white knuckle grip till uh maybe I can do this for 30 days, sort of feeling.
- 55:26So thank you again so incredibly much for all of your work.
- 55:30Thank you for being an instrument for the glory's work and not being afraid to talk about it.
- 55:34It's just amazing.
- 55:35And uh, Dr.
- 55:36Tempany, I need to say this.
- 55:37I appreciate what you have been doing for so many years now.
- 55:41We've met a few times at different conferences, and you are taking bullets and fighting battles that will benefit us for future generations, and it does not go unnoticed and unappreciated.
- 55:53So I want to thank you not only for hosting me, but for being somebody who has shared the truth under great scrutiny, pressure, threats, and fire.
- 56:00Great scrutiny, pressure, threats, and fire.
- 56:03And I believe and I decree that God will bless you abundantly, restore what the locusts have eaten, and uh give you the opportunity to see the fruits of your labor uh come to pass in health transformation.
- 56:03And I believe and I decree that God will bless you abundantly, restore what the locusts have eaten, and uh give you the opportunity to see the fruits of your labor uh come to pass in health transformation.
- 56:17So uh again, uh on behalf of myself and so many others, thank you for being there fighting a battle for us.
- 56:17So uh again, uh on behalf of myself and so many others, thank you for being there fighting a battle for us.
- 56:24Well, what else can you say after that, Jordan?
- 56:24Well, what else can you say after that, Jordan?
- 56:27Thank you so much.
- 56:27Thank you so much.
- 56:28And I appreciate that praise.
- 56:28And I appreciate that prayer.
- 56:30Thank you so much.
- 56:31So, for everybody that's been listening for here today, I hope you enjoyed this.
- 56:34Watch it, share it, spread all this information around.
- 56:37And I'll close with one of my favorite verses from the Bible.
- 56:40I close all my podcasts with, whether they are live or pre recorded, which is Romans 12, 12.
- 56:45Rejoice in hope, be patient in trouble, and be persistent in prayer.
- 56:49Lean into God, trust Him for everything.
- 56:50He won't let you down.
- 56:52We'll see you again here tomorrow at 3 p.m.
- 56:54Eastern time, Monday through Friday or the next time on the 10 Penny Files.
- 56:59Have a great rest of your day, everybody.
