January 25 - Loving God with an Undivided Heart · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 25th.
• 0:11
Guard your heart, Guard your future.
• 0:13
Temptation rarely shows up wearing warning labels.
• 0:16
Most of the time it looks exciting, flattering, and
• 0:19
harmless. It sounds like an opportunity,
• 0:22
not a threat. It feels like something you can
• 0:24
control, not something that could control you.
• 0:27
That's why Proverbs Chapter 7 is so detailed.
• 0:30
God isn't being dramatic, He's being honest.
• 0:33
He tells the story of someone who didn't plan to fall, didn't
• 0:36
think it would go that far, and didn't see the cost until it was
• 0:39
too late. The danger wasn't just the
• 0:41
moment, it was the path that led there.
• 0:44
In Proverbs Chapter 7, verses 4 to 5, we hear this invitation
• 0:49
say to Wisdom, You are my sister, and call insight your
• 0:52
intimate friend, to keep you from the forbidden woman, from
• 0:55
the adulteress with her smooth words.
• 0:58
Notice how personal that language is.
• 1:00
Wisdom isn't meant to be a distant idea.
• 1:02
It's meant to be close, trusted, familiar, and protective.
• 1:06
When wisdom is near your heart, it speaks up before temptation
• 1:09
pulls you in. It helps you see past smooth
• 1:12
words and quick thrills to the consequences hiding underneath.
• 1:16
Jesus gives us the anchor for guarding our hearts.
• 1:18
In Matthew chapter 22 verse 37, he says you shall love the Lord
• 1:23
your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
• 1:26
your mind. That kind of love changes
• 1:28
everything. When your heart is fully focused
• 1:31
on God, temptation loses its shine.
• 1:34
When your mind is anchored in truth, lies don't sound as
• 1:37
convincing. Loving God fully doesn't make
• 1:40
you immune to temptation, but it makes you stronger than it.
• 1:43
Here's the truth. Whatever has your heart will
• 1:45
shape your future. If your heart is filled with
• 1:48
desire for approval, attention, or pleasure, those things will
• 1:51
guide your choices. But if your heart is filled with
• 1:54
love for God, wisdom, and truth, your decisions start to reflect
• 1:58
that love even when no one is watching.
• 2:00
Guarding your heart isn't about fear.
• 2:03
It's about direction. It's about protecting the future
• 2:06
God is building in you. Temptation always promises more
• 2:09
than it delivers. It offers excitement but leaves
• 2:12
regret. It offers escape but creates
• 2:15
  bondage. God's way may require
• 2:17
self-control, but it leads to freedom.
• 2:19
When wisdom is your close friend and love for God is your deepest
• 2:23
desire, you don't have to fall for every trap that looks
• 2:26
  appealing. You're not missing out.
• 2:28
By guarding your heart, you're protecting your peace, your
• 2:30
purpose, and the future God has prepared for you.
• 2:33
  Choose wisdom. Choose love.
• 2:35
Choose the path that leads to life.
• 2:38
Let's pray Heavenly Father, help me guard my heart with wisdom
• 2:41
and truth when temptation tries to pull me in with smooth words
• 2:45
and false promises. Give me clarity and strength to
• 2:48
walk away. Teach me to love you with all my
• 2:50
heart, soul and mind and let that love guide every choice I
• 2:53
make. Protect my future as I choose
• 2:56
your way today in Jesus name, Amen.
• 2:59

• 4:18
Bible reading plan. Proverbs Chapter 7, verses 1 to
• 4:23
27 World English Bible. My son, keep my words.
• 4:27
Lay up my commandments within you.
• 4:29
Keep my commandments and live guard my teaching as the apple
• 4:33
of your eye. Bind them on your fingers.
• 4:35
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
• 4:37
Tell wisdom you are my sister. Call understanding your
• 4:41
relative, that they may keep you from the strange woman, from the
• 4:44
foreigner who flatters with her words.
• 4:46
For at the window of my house I looked out through my lattice.
• 4:49
I saw among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths a
• 4:53
young man, void of understanding, passing through
• 4:55
the street near her corner. He went the way to her house in
• 4:58
the twilight, in the evening of the day, in the middle of the
• 5:01
night and in the darkness. Behold, there a woman met him
• 5:04
with the attire of a prostitute and with crafty intent.
• 5:07
She is loud and defiant. Her feet don't stay in her house
• 5:11
now. She is in the streets now, in
• 5:13
the squares and lurking at every corner.
• 5:15
So she caught him and kissed him with an impudent face.
• 5:18
She said to him, sacrifices of peace, offerings are with me
• 5:22
today. I have paid my vows.
• 5:24
Therefore I came out to meet you, to diligently seek your
• 5:27
face and I have found you. I have spread my couch with
• 5:30
carpets of tapestry with striped clothes of the yarn of Egypt.
• 5:33
I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.
• 5:37
Come, let's take our fill of loving until the morning.
• 5:40
  Let's solace ourselves with loving.
• 5:42
For my husband isn't at home. He has gone on a long journey.
• 5:46
He has taken a bag of money with him.
• 5:48
He will come home at the full moon.
• 5:50
With persuasive words she led him astray.
• 5:52
With the flattering of her lips she seduced him.
• 5:55
He followed her immediately. As an ox goes to the slaughter,
• 5:58
as a fool stepping into a noose, until an arrow strikes through
• 6:02
his liver, As a bird hurries to the snare and doesn't know that
• 6:05
it will cost his life. Now, therefore, sons, listen to
• 6:08
me. Pay attention to the words of my
• 6:10
mouth. Don't let your heart turn to her
• 6:12
ways. Don't go astray in her paths,
• 6:15
for she has thrown down many wounded.
• 6:17
Yes, all her slain are a mighty army.
• 6:20
Her house is the way to she all going down to the rooms of
• 6:22
death. Psalm chapter 110 verse one
• 6:26
world English Bible a Psalm by David Yahweh says to my Lord sit
• 6:30
at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool for
• 6:33
your feet. Matthew Chapter 22 World English
• 6:37
Bible Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables,
• 6:41
saying the Kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who made a
• 6:45
wedding feast for his son and sent out his servants to call
• 6:48
those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would
• 6:51
not come again. He sent out other servants
• 6:53
saying, tell those who are invited, behold, I have prepared
• 6:57
my dinner, my cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all
• 7:00
things are ready come to the wedding feast.
• 7:03
But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own
• 7:06
farm, another to his merchandise, and the rest
• 7:09
grabbed his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed
• 7:12
them. When the king heard that, he was
• 7:14
angry and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers and
• 7:17
burned their city. Then he said to his servants,
• 7:21
the wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren't worthy.
• 7:24
Go, therefore to the intersections of the highways
• 7:26
and as many as you may find, invite to the wedding feast.
• 7:30
Those servants went out into the highways and gathered together,
• 7:33
as many as they found both bad and good.
• 7:36
The wedding was filled with guests, but when the king came
• 7:39
in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn't have on
• 7:42
wedding clothing, and he said to him, Friend, how did you come in
• 7:45
  here not wearing wedding clothing?
• 7:48
He was speechless. Then the king said to the
• 7:50
servants, bind him hand and foot, take him away and throw
• 7:53
him into the outer darkness. That is where the weeping and
• 7:56
grinding of teeth will be, for many are called, but few chosen.
• 8:00
Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap
• 8:03
him in his talk. They sent their disciples to him
• 8:06
along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that
• 8:09
you are honest and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom
• 8:13
you teach, for you aren't partial to anyone.
• 8:16
Tell us, therefore, what do you think?
• 8:17
Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?
• 8:20
But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, Why do you
• 8:23
test me, you hypocrites? Show me the tax money.
• 8:27
They brought to him a denarius. He asked them, whose is this
• 8:30
image and inscription? They said to him Caesar's.
• 8:33
Then he said to them, Give therefore to Caesar the things
• 8:36
that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are gods.
• 8:39
When they heard it, they marvelled and left him and went
• 8:42
away. On that day Sadducees, those who
• 8:44
say that there is no resurrection, came to him.
• 8:47
They asked him, saying, Teacher Moses said, If a man dies having
• 8:51
no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up
• 8:54
offspring for his brother. Now they were with us seven
• 8:57
brothers. The first married and died, and
• 9:00
having no offspring, left his wife to his brother in the same
• 9:03
way the second also, and the 3rd to the 7th.
• 9:06
After them all the woman died in the resurrection.
• 9:09
Therefore whose wife will she be of the seven?
• 9:12
For they all had her, but Jesus answered them.
• 9:15
You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of
• 9:18
God. For in the resurrection they
• 9:20
neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like God's
• 9:23
angels in heaven. But concerning the resurrection
• 9:26
of the dead, haven't you read that which was spoken to you by
• 9:29
God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac,
• 9:33
and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead,
• 9:36
but of the living. When the multitudes heard it,
• 9:39
they were astonished at His teaching.
• 9:41
But the Pharisees, when they heard that He had silenced the
• 9:44
  Sadducees, gathered themselves together.
• 9:46
One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.
• 9:50
Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
• 9:52
Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all
• 9:55
your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
• 9:58
This is the first and great commandment.
• 10:01
A second likewise is this. You shall love your neighbor as
• 10:03
yourself. The whole law and the prophets
• 10:06
  depend on these two commandments.
• 10:08
Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked
• 10:11
them a question, saying, What do you think of the Christ?
• 10:14
Whose son is he? They said to him of David.
• 10:17
He said to them, how then does David in the Spirit call him
• 10:20
Lord, saying, the Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand
• 10:24
until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.
• 10:27
If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?
• 10:31
No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare
• 10:34
ask him any more questions from that day forward.
