- 0:51know today's show is brought to you by the support of our listeners, and
- 0:54you can support the show at support dot Great Detectives dot net. Now,
- 0:58I said i'd talk a little bit more about Gil Gordon's career, and it
- 1:03really was a fascinating multifasted one over radio really began in the thirties doing a
- 1:14lot of roles for wide variety of radio serials. Played the villain in Speed
- 1:26Gibson of the International Secret Police. He played Flash Gordon. He appeared in
- 1:32Front Page Drama, which was an early old time radio program, made lots
- 1:38of appearances on the Lox Radio Theater and became kind of a key character actor,
- 1:45appearing on a lot of shows. Really. In nineteen forty he took
- 1:51on the role of Mayor La Trivia and that role in many ways set the
- 1:57direction for a lot of his career because he would end up playing a lot
- 2:01of these somewhat stuffed shirt authority figures, and he would have roles like that
- 2:07in the Great Guilder Sleeve Halls of Ivy, and his best radio role in
- 2:14that regard was, of course his osgood Conklin and Armis Brooks. Over television
- 2:21he continued the same way a lot of series opposite Lucille Ball, and of
- 2:24course he was also the second mister Wilson on Dennis the Menace, but over
- 2:30radio a little bit more of a variety, particularly in the early years,
- 2:34and certainly a private detective series very different from that. But let's go ahead
- 2:39and take a listen out to today's episode of The Case Book of Gregory Hood.
- 2:43The Black Museum three brings you a book of Gregory Hood. Tonight.
- 3:00The Petrie family, the family that took time to bring you good wines,
- 3:05invite you to listen to the story of the Black Museum, another exciting adventure
- 3:09from the case Book of Gregory Hoost. And if you don't mind, I'd
- 3:14like to ask you to do a little something for me and yourself tomorrow night.
- 3:19Along with your dinner. Serve Petrie California Burgundy. Petri Burgundy, you
- 3:23know, is a perfect companion for any kind of meat or meat dish.
- 3:28It's the red wines, just as rich in flavor as it is in colored.
- 3:31It can transform an ordinary meal into a real occasion. Take even a
- 3:37simple dish like hamburger steak. Cook that hamburger exactly the way you like,
- 3:42rare, medium, well done, fried, barbecued anyway, then serve it
- 3:46with a glass of delicious Petrie Burgundy. Why you have a meal that would
- 3:51make anyone happy, even a connoisseur. Remember when you serve that Petri Burgundy,
- 3:55you can serve it proudly because Petrie is the proudest name and a long
- 4:00history of fine wine. Well, it's Monday night in San Francisco and we
- 4:21have a weekly date with Gregory Hood to Night's Rendezvous. Is that one of
- 4:27us city's oldest and best restaurants. The ord of the Titans, furnishing the
- 4:30tasteful, the service, the screeps, and the veal scallipini, so Gregory
- 4:36tells me, is incomparable. Let's join Missippi. You are journey mister hood
- 4:44of Dark. Yes, he tells me, that life is incompleace. Ntil
- 4:47life drives Gallupini fiord of Italian. We do fight ourselves on the dish.
- 4:53Follow me, please, mister Botev. Mister Hood always has the same table.
- 4:57He came in a few moments ago. This is his stable. But
- 5:01where did he go into the kitchen? Perhaps I know he's an amateur cook
- 5:05of some note. He's more than lightly the police who sit down. It
- 5:10is about tell and I will see if I can find it. Thanks miss
- 5:12Leppe, here he comes now. Oh an't in Gregory. Oh, Harry,
- 5:15I see battle Litty taking care of you. Thank you about me.
- 5:17Say later, Harry, this is quite an occasion. I've got it.
- 5:21You've got what the secret. George and Frank manin as they finally broke down
- 5:25and gave me the missing link to that Scillapini into the Olli volumes had a
- 5:28pinchable Reagan, a whist of time, and then no more than a faint
- 5:31murder of top green minutes and the wine. Harry, Ah, that's where
- 5:34the fund starts. When you put Gregory right now, our listeners want an
- 5:40adventure out of the case book of Gregory hoot, it'll be much more profitable.
- 5:43To learn how to cook scallopini. If you're to tell you, Harry,
- 5:45crime is common good cooking for questions may be Gregory, but I'll take
- 5:48the scalluponi later if you don't mind, for the next half hour has about
- 5:53Gregory hood versus the underworld. Well, if you insist, let me see
- 5:56what story did I promise you last week? One that you called the Black
- 6:00Ah? Yes, yes, that was not adventure, Harris. I suppose
- 6:02it really began a couple of months ago in my apartment on nob Hills.
- 6:05Andy Taylor and I had a dinner date with some friends and he'd dropped by
- 6:09from Martini. I thought I had filled myself with the martinis that night.
- 6:12But Sandy thh is my best friend as well as my attorney, is the
- 6:15unfortunate victim of an overdeveloped sense of punctuality. After half an hour, he
- 6:20was championing at his bit to be off. Finally, with the devilish cunning
- 6:24of the season Bachelor, I convinced him that one more martini. He was
- 6:28almost all right. Gregory, you when the snap of your arm was positively
- 6:34deafening, Sandy, Let's watch the time the Austins are expecting us at seven
- 6:39fifteen. They're such nice people that I'm always astonished at their gastronomic indifference.
- 6:43Their cook deserves to be stewed in her own culinary juicing. Pleasant thought,
- 6:46But she'd need a colossal sauce. That true. True. By the way,
- 6:49Sandy, did you know Tim Brady arrived back in time today? Tim
- 6:53Brady? Oh? Yes, he's your agent Don in Mexico. Isn't has
- 6:56he unearthed any treasures this yet? I haven't seen him yet. He called
- 6:59me just before you were all right, that told us to drop by of
- 7:00her drink. Don't know what happened to him. Well, he's better hurry.
- 7:03Oh that must have him there. Oh Lord, give him a fast
- 7:05price, Gregory. There's a martini left. I'll give him that and then
- 7:08he can walk down to the car. Hello, Jim, let's see you
- 7:12again, Gregory. Oh you ollo Brady. Too bad you arrived so late.
- 7:15We've got a rush. We're behind schedule now, Sorry, but I
- 7:18got tied up. Can I walk down to the car with you? Just
- 7:20what I was going to suggest? In the meanwhile, there's one martini at
- 7:24Homeless Not me longer, Gregory. Thanks far things down in Mexico not too
- 7:29promising for Gregory of Hood Imported got them and control. Yeah, most of
- 7:31the good stuff sewed up and smuggling is not what it used to be here.
- 7:34Did you get anything really? Choice? Well, just the one item.
- 7:38Gonna say, honey, what did you think of it? So I
- 7:40went through your last shipment at the warehouse that I didn't notice anything special?
- 7:43And what did you take up Brady on night sacrificial nights. It's a genuine
- 7:46pre conquer item of citian blade cop stone handle, and it's guaranteed to have
- 7:50been using human sacrifices for the war. God good work times. Of course
- 7:54you didn't send it with a regular consignment, no special packaging, but it
- 7:58should have been here by now. It sounds like a real fine. Did
- 8:00you pay a big price for it? A got it for a song?
- 8:03But there's a reason for that. It's previous owner just got himself murdered with
- 8:05it. From what I hear they usually do. Huh. The knife's got
- 8:09a curse on it. Gregory, whoever has it in his possession is supposed
- 8:11to die soon and violently. Dear me follows up on Steel Western, But
- 8:16in the meantime, I guess we must be moving the one who walk down
- 8:18to the car with us. Oh, sures Gregory, we'll get our hat
- 8:20standing with you. I mean I've really got you on your way, wonders.
- 8:24We'll never see here's the car, Gregory, Bory wed have to rush
- 8:39to him. Well that's okay. I've got a day too. We'll see
- 8:41you the office in the morning. Well, I'll go over to the other
- 8:43stuff with him. Oh hello, mister Markham. Here ready when you get
- 8:46back to town. That's this afternoon. Oh, this is mister Hood.
- 8:48That's to tell it. How do you know your greggree Hood? Aren't you
- 8:52ahead of the importing firms? Right? I have a neighbor of yours just
- 8:56a block down the hill from here. I wanted to meet you. I
- 9:00think I've got some stuff that will interest you quite a bit. Gregory.
- 9:03Yes, I'm afraid we have to go. Mister Markham. What kind of
- 9:07stuff are you referring to? How would you like to see the very hatchet
- 9:11with which the broad and murders would commit it? You have it, mister
- 9:16markin and more clacious. I think I have one of the finest collections of
- 9:20murder weapons in the world. Why not stop by and see them. It
- 9:22would only take a few seconds. How about tomorrow, mister Martin, Well,
- 9:26I'm afraid I'll be out of town for the next few days. I
- 9:28will not come now. Well, Gregory, we can't. Or quarter of
- 9:31an hour won't hurt Sandy. Come on, you can figure with missus Olson
- 9:35on fault. Oh, Gregory, Here, mister Hood is the carving knife
- 9:48which Henry White, to Pete mont Pammer, used to decapitate his wife.
- 9:52I remember the case. They never did find her head, did they?
- 9:54Strikes me as a rather grizzly hobby, mister Markham, though I'm sure your
- 9:58collections prices wouldn't have criminology like myself, mister Taylor, it's far from grizzly.
- 10:03Naturally, I knew mister Food's reputation as an amateur detective, and I
- 10:07was certain he'd be intercee. I am, I am immense. It's a
- 10:09superb black museum. Just think of it. Every one of these choice implements
- 10:15have actually tasted human blood, and usually in a celebrated case. And that's
- 10:18why I regard the hobby as a grizzly one. You you wouldn't consider selling
- 10:22any of these trophies would you, mister Markham selling the print Scott know would
- 10:26I'd like to buy more to add to the collection? It concuse me,
- 10:30mister Markham? He yes, for what is it? Your wife would like
- 10:31to suspeak to you for a moment. He's in the dance very well.
- 10:35I'll be back in a moment, gentlemen, I look after my guests for
- 10:39I'm Paul Jackson, mister Markham secretary. You are mister Gregory heard answer yes,
- 10:43and this is Sandra Taylor. Gregory is now a halftime. As soon
- 10:46as mister Markham gets back, will be on our way. Mister Hurd,
- 10:48I've got a business proposition to make you well, I'm a businessman. What's
- 10:52proposition? You're an unfort with connections all over the world, mister Hoods.
- 10:56It has to me that occasionally you would be found to come as something that
- 11:00would be a perfect addition to mister Markham's museum. I've just been thinking the
- 11:03same thing myself, me too. It would be the first opportunity I've ever
- 11:07had to put my interest in murder on a strictly commercial basis. The propositions
- 11:11to Jackson, I'd love to handle such a deal on a commission that hardly
- 11:15seems ethical. Mister Markham's your employee, and he has more money than he
- 11:18knows what to do with. We could jack the price up and split the
- 11:22extra three ways. I don't want to appear stuffy, mister Jackson, but
- 11:24my firm doesn't do business that way. No dice, my friends. Now
- 11:28here he comes an hour with his wife. Please don't be people, I
- 11:31said, gentlemen, and I want you to meet my wife, right dear
- 11:35Gregory's heard me, Missus Markham, and mister Taylor, how do you do?
- 11:39I was telling Howard that I was so anxious to meet you, mister
- 11:41Hurd, but I wish you'd warned me when he's saying this is I look
- 11:45perfectly awful. You look charming, Missus Markham. But I'm afraid that's we
- 11:48must be getting along neglection. Yes, yes, it's destinaly. That's how
- 11:54I didn't show you my contribution. He doesn't think it's worthy of the rest
- 11:58of the stuff. I mean, and let me show you. Here's this
- 12:01the moment. It's never been proven to be your benty, so Howard brought
- 12:07let me keep it connection. It's vanished to the study. What is the
- 12:11treasure a dating quest. Somebody's supposed to have concert fifty girls and on the
- 12:16head with it forty two pips be brought to the study for the test.
- 12:20I brought it in China down. Oh is it on the desk? Yeah,
- 12:26it's yes. You have to talk about the quest. The bomb is
- 12:31scream Okay, let's not talk about him. Well the last enough you have
- 12:37yes, yes, and I'm late for it. Now blonde bring white hair.
- 12:41And in the late fifties she must have a daughter. She has to
- 12:45play chow plans for third place. That's when you want. You have to
- 12:48go yes once to drop five O. How it's going to club? You're
- 12:56crazy about Howard, aren't you? Oh? Sue the tenantry, the nineteen
- 13:00hundred from one, Yeah, welcome. Yes. If I'm not, I'm
- 13:09suffering from a rush of epics to the head. Then foot, Yes,
- 13:16this moves a man leaving a number and looks at this time? Where good?
- 13:26Do you think it's so authentic? I rather doubt it's mister bottom that
- 13:30then it's hard to say, Oh, Sandy, what's the time? Seven
- 13:33o'clock? Cracker? Ain't that an o'clock stand? You're a dope? Why
- 13:35don't you keep an eye on your watch? We're late, all right,
- 13:48track, I'll come up to your apartment for John's one glass of port.
- 13:52But pot ROAs was worse than usual, and I was in a standing and
- 13:56I can't think why even the Austin folks decided that brilliant scene? Is that
- 14:00faces for a salad dressing? Oh? It wasn't that grey? Yeah?
- 14:05I don't never quite understand you. What makes you say that you're equally tommy
- 14:09both to missus Markham, who had all the subtlety of a steamroller, and
- 14:11to miss Austen, was really a very nice girl. Obviously you didn't like
- 14:16either of us. What kind of a woman do you like? Where's my
- 14:18keys? O? Here we are? What kind of a woman do I
- 14:22like? Oh? I don't ask much, Sandy, just an off beat
- 14:26sense of humor, great use in a certain way with animals that shouldn't be
- 14:33too hot, fine nose not. What I had in mind was something like,
- 14:39yes, just might easily be someone very nice to you? Who she
- 14:43or she's just? And who are you? And how did you get in
- 14:48here? It's managed to him service? He thought you might take me to
- 14:52stay. That's friendly of him. But I have not come to manasses,
- 14:58and you don't have a here to sit down. I have come here to
- 15:01warn you about the Knight. What's nice the fact official knife of the which
- 15:05approaches the God of wars. That's nice belongs to the followers the God.
- 15:11You must not keep it, misterhood. Listen to what did I say?
- 15:15Whoever onto knife promises will die? We will die by the Knight? Are
- 15:20you sure you haven't reading too many mystery stories? And way not in front
- 15:24of me. I've come here to bring you warning. That's very nice of
- 15:26you. Who are you? I am? How do you see a saka?
- 15:33As I am? And I think I see you? I warn you
- 15:37others follow you while you're on the knife with that. If you must threaten
- 15:43me, I do wish to sit down with all the more comfortable. That
- 15:46is all I have to say. Remember what I have said. Now,
- 15:48wait a minute, Joe Bathers has been a one track conversation. Why do
- 15:52you have to leave you? So? I want to leave good. I'll
- 15:54be back in standing. Why do you follow me or not? You?
- 16:00Gentlemen? And seeing you to your card? Who's thinking here? Where do
- 16:02you live? I should not tell you what's your phone? Mimes? Douglas
- 16:06sixty nine seven seven? What's your other names? Last? And I came
- 16:08here, you can't here to try and scare me, And now I'm scaring
- 16:11you, fellow. Oh well, let me drive you home. Oh Willa,
- 16:17we'll meet again. I promise you will meet again. Should have been
- 16:32here a week ago instead of waiting, arrived this morning. Strange things happenings.
- 16:36Opened the window when it's stuffy in anyway, it was well worth waiting
- 16:40for. It's a beautiful specimen. No, remember what the girl said last
- 16:42night, Draggory. Whoever owns the night wrongfully will die? Was that girl
- 16:48Gregg, last name, address, telephone number unknown, But she put on
- 16:52quite a convincing act. He didn't glam it us herself, though, I'll
- 16:53find out if the rupt to it. Oh this is nice excercy. I
- 17:00hold it up by the window, Sandy to fetch a lot of money,
- 17:02Gregory if I feel it, Markham and probably give his I teth for him.
- 17:04It is, and there's his eye teeth undoubtedly detachable. I don't think
- 17:10it would do much of a bargain. Look at the blood stains on this,
- 17:14probably fifty centuries oh, smut. Somebody chucked a knife through the window,
- 17:21and there's an office building opposite. But I see anyone. I didn't
- 17:23expect you to. You're dealing with an expert. He only missed me by
- 17:26a few inches, hopefully bad to the redwood paneling, though. I see
- 17:33a nice as modern Nate, Gregory, But it's the same pattern as the
- 17:34one I got in Mexico? Shall I call the police? Oh? Brady,
- 17:37this is hood company, but we can take care of it well.
- 17:40And what are you going to do? Thanks this unknown individual for tossing me
- 17:42a nice new import for free, and plan to thank him in person as
- 17:47soon as possible. Gregory is I'm crazy about riding in the open section of
- 18:04these table cars? Good so am I? But we've been up knob Hill
- 18:07twice and down at once. This is the second trip down. Where is
- 18:10it's getting it up and down knob Hill? Table cars are conducive to clear
- 18:15thinking. I think I've been thinking. Man get rid of that sacrificial night,
- 18:18the only sensible thing to do. And you've got a perfect market.
- 18:22You mean mister Markham's Black Museum. Sure, I know, Sandy, but
- 18:25there's something about this whole business that smacks the fourth rate melodrama, Gregory.
- 18:29I'd say turn the case over to the police and sell the knife to Mark
- 18:32and admit that I'm scared. No, standy, that isn't what I've mentioned
- 18:34to another night thrown after Gregory? Is this time it is really close?
- 18:41Then? The fourth rate melodrama or not. I'm beginning to think I'm unpopular.
- 18:53That's Dixon. Take this letter please here, mister Harris, with regard
- 19:00to your letter of the sixteenth instant, as attorney for the firm of Gregory
- 19:04Hood Importers, I hereby give notice, and your receipt of this registered letter
- 19:10will acknowledge such notice. Whereas the party of the first Oh, yes he's
- 19:18right here, thank you. Mistake, Yes, Gregory, Sandy, I'm
- 19:22phoning from a bar. Oh, very unusual. Yes, this is sady.
- 19:27Let me tell you something. I phone lock him. He's crazy to
- 19:30buy the sacrificial knives. Good sell it, Gregory. But I had a
- 19:32bright idea supposing this guy was purchasing me with knives, decides to take a
- 19:36crack a box. If we shall, then it would weld. Don't worry,
- 19:40Gregory, I'll work out out formal waiver of damages or something. I'm
- 19:42glad you've come to your senses, though, and decided to sell. I
- 19:45haven't come to Sandy. I just wanted to know what Gregory's I heard a
- 19:49man scream. I hope not Gregory. Gregory Gregory. You'll hear the rest
- 20:07of gregory hood story in just a second. So in the meantime, I'm
- 20:11going to tell you about a white wine that's really marvelous with chicken. The
- 20:15wine is Petrie California So Turned. Petri So Turn is a delicate, subtle
- 20:22wine, beautifully golden in colored. One sip and you'll know that you've discovered
- 20:26the kind of wine you've long looked for. And let me tell you,
- 20:30Petri So Turn is not only great with chicken. Wait did you serve it
- 20:33with fish or any other kind of seafood? It's just about well, I've
- 20:40sort of run out of words. You just taste Petri so Turn yourself and
- 20:44you'll know how good it really is. Remember, there are lots of wine,
- 20:48so be sure you get a good wine. Always gets a Petrie wine.
- 20:53Well, it was a fine place to lead me, Cliff Haying,
- 20:56Were you killed Gregory this early in the series, Oh, Harry, by
- 21:00a happy work of faith. I wasn't too. Oh, I'm so glad
- 21:03that Sandy was worried, though he was. He tried unsuccessfully to trace the
- 21:07call and waited anxiously until I called him back. Yes, Gregory, you're
- 21:12scared the daylight, thought him. Sorry. I caught it back soon as
- 21:15that good. Well, what happened? Another night? Prone at you?
- 21:18Yes? But this time an they bring barfly lets in front of me.
- 21:19That was the yelp you must have heard. Did it get him? Take
- 21:22his shoulder? Nothing serious except that he might sign the plane. It made
- 21:26me mad. It's giving me an idea. I think I know how to
- 21:29settle this business now, Gregory, leave it alone, or at least let
- 21:30me okay, okay, counselor you're enough beat me at Sam Macklin's office for
- 21:36happen out? Who's Sam Macklin? What the heck do you tell you?
- 21:40When I see you? Well, Sam House business, greg and business ain't
- 21:51what he used to me. I don't think it ever has been. What
- 21:53can I do for you this time? Greg You're chasing down the phone number
- 21:56of another ballet dancer. I do want to find a dance, I assure
- 22:00you it's strictly business this time. Hm. Well, I'll see what I
- 22:03can do. I want the addresses of any female Spanish dancers now in San
- 22:07Francisco. Spanish dancers, I can find you one hundred Mexican No, no
- 22:11sam real Spanish dancers, not Mexicans. Okay, I will do my book,
- 22:15and while you're at it, see if you can track down any knife
- 22:18throwers for me. Spanish dancers and knife throwers. Gregory, my boy,
- 22:25your taste is certainly changing, Gregory, why are we doing the round to
- 22:40the night? I'm trying to catch the right floor show, the one that
- 22:42has a certain Spanish dancer. But I think we will recognize where does the
- 22:45Spanish dancer fit into the picture of records. That girl Pillar, the so
- 22:49called Aztec priestess, descried to scare me last night. I have a hunch
- 22:52she's a dancer. What makes you think that? Well, at first,
- 22:55when I heard that luscious voice, I thought you might have been a singer.
- 22:57But when I saw the way she moved around and how she skimmed down
- 23:00the stairs, I changed my mind. Yes and day, I have a
- 23:03definite hunt. She's a dancer. One thing is certain. He's obviously not
- 23:07an as say, how do you figure that one? Not great? Right?
- 23:08She said, how do you say in English? A taker? As
- 23:12taka? She gave the z a th eight sound. That's Castilian, Spanish,
- 23:18Mexican or any Spanish American would say as taker. So she's a phony,
- 23:22and that's why we're calling the night club trying to find it. I
- 23:25hope she can lead us to whoever's at the back of this night's throwing business.
- 23:27Well, we've seen three Spanish dancers so far, you've made two dates.
- 23:32I hope this is the right place now, Ah, it is it
- 23:38is. Let's we setting out in the spotlight, Sandy. It's the same
- 23:41girl, all right. How as soon as her numbers over, we're going
- 23:42to persuade her to take a cab ride with us to the officers are putting
- 23:45company. And I bought it? What men, why are you take me
- 24:00from the club? It must downstair kemp to night. Oh don't worry,
- 24:03Palla, I'll get you back there in time and stay to watch you.
- 24:06Right now, we want information who hired you to come up and try and
- 24:10scare me last night? It would not be there to tell you he turned
- 24:12me. It was only a joke, and he takes me away. It
- 24:15would not be right to give the joke away. Listen to La, I'm
- 24:18a lawyer, and I assure you you're not mixed up with a joke.
- 24:19You're mixed up with attempted murder. Not Oh no, sure, you must
- 24:25believe me. You are right. They just answer my questions and you'll be
- 24:29all right. It's try to murder me through apparently, though of course they
- 24:33really after someone else. How'd you figure that burger if they were really after
- 24:36me? No expert knighte thrawers that have failed in three attempts. Therefore,
- 24:40the whole act of sending Pala with the warning and the knight thrawing was a
- 24:41deliberate plan to scare me selling the knife fairs, Now, who would be
- 24:45the obvious customer? Mister MARKT sure? So what we've uncovered now is a
- 24:49plan to murder Mark them. I understand it now. By making the killing
- 24:53seem to hinge on the knife, it cast suspicion away from a personal motive
- 24:56for killing Mark. Every perver of you that Gregory, if I may say,
- 25:00you may send it, please me to I do not understand what you
- 25:04bought to talk about I'll explain it at suffer La. Now just tell me
- 25:08who hired you. I do not know his name and I hardly say s
- 25:11face. He came to the club and spoke to me outside the stage doors.
- 25:15It was very dark. I would not to him again, but you'd
- 25:18know his voice, Tiller, I wouldn't you. Oh yeah, I never
- 25:21forget a voice. Then we'll say, Gregory, why are we going to
- 25:23your office instead of Markham's house. You know my methods and me as well
- 25:27as you do, which is that you make him up as you go along.
- 25:32All right, but you do recall one of my basic ideas. Find
- 25:34out what you want to know, then see the guy that knows it.
- 25:37That's why we're going to the office right now. I want to see our
- 25:40Mexican experts him. Brady, Well, that's the situation to him. Somebody
- 25:53is scheming to murder Markham. Doesn't seem possible. Yes, have you any
- 26:00idea? Who's the back of it? All right? Tilla? Now here
- 26:03are mister Brady? You heard me? Hi? Reckon? Thank your voice?
- 26:07Are you crazy? Brady? She is? It had to be him
- 26:11because Pilla approached me with the warning before I got the knife at that time.
- 26:15You were the only man in California who knew that I was going to
- 26:17receive an ancient sacrificial knife. You didn't foresee the delay, Gregory, You're
- 26:21nuts. What possible motives could I have? You know the Markham if you
- 26:25introduced me, and the motive for any man of average susceptibility is obvious enough.
- 26:29After you've met missus Markham. Very ingenious. You could bring in Tilar
- 26:33as a witness of court. Will Brady and my old pale Lieutenant Silvers at
- 26:37the San Francisco Police has put a tracer out for me for night brawers.
- 26:41I imagine you told the man who threw the knives that it was a joke
- 26:42too, this business of throwing near missus the final knife that would not have
- 26:48missed Markham. I imagine you planned to wield yourself. You're making a good
- 26:51case, Gregory, But of what No crime has been committed, Yes,
- 26:55all of otters a detective who forced all the murder for a chase. But
- 26:57it seems to lave me and not quite Tim. That man who was wounded
- 27:02in the bar and the knife nicked in this afternoon infection set him. He
- 27:04died in the hospital an hour ago. I'm afraid of the murder charge.
- 27:07Brady, he died. Okay, you're the only one to go up.
- 27:17That's a honey, knocked him out. Told and and to think that I
- 27:21selected that you had to represent our Mexican interest. I call the police,
- 27:23Sandy, when you went right away. You did not hurt yourself, be
- 27:26though, No, just ruse my knuckles a Sandy. Tim pulled a gun
- 27:30on as I imagine, we can book him on the source of intention to
- 27:33commit murder country. Sure, but this man that cried, Gregory, why
- 27:37didn't you tell me? Because I only dreamed it up just now. It
- 27:38seems the one way to make Tim joy his hands. Gregory, you're completely
- 27:44unprincipal. Sure, I think you're wonderful. When Tim pulled that gun just
- 27:49now you called me, Gregory, why go back to mister yare But please
- 27:56must take me back to my club soon. Just as soon as the police
- 27:59get here, Bill, the two of us take you back, and later
- 28:02on tonight we will really show you the town. Oh not me, Gregory.
- 28:04I'm going home to marry and the children. Give me police record,
- 28:07then plan and I will do the town alone. It's the date sella very
- 28:11much. You red, Well, that story was a duty, Greg.
- 28:34But there's one thing I'd like to know. I'd like to know if if
- 28:38I kept my dates of pillar. Yeah, that's right, But you know
- 28:44I was going to ask that everybody else does, why not you? And
- 28:48I can tell you that your next question is going to be, so what's
- 28:51your i's phone number? Right? And your answer, as they say at
- 28:55the phone company, I'm sorry, we cannot devout that information. Okay,
- 29:00okay, let's order dinner and forget good? Shall we try the scilipedi?
- 29:03George T Are you sure? Let's see wine? Shall I order? As?
- 29:10If you don't know? All right? Go ahead kid me. But
- 29:12you know as well as either that we can't mess with Petrie wine. Sure
- 29:17why? The Petrie family has been making wine for generation. The art of
- 29:22making fine wine is their heretic, a heritage, hand it on down from
- 29:26father to son, from father to son. No wonder Petrie wine is so
- 29:32good, and no wonder the Petrie business is grown and grown so that today
- 29:37the Petrie family are America's largest independent wine making Yes, the making of Petrie
- 29:42wine is a family affair, and the Petrie family intends to keep it that
- 29:47way, because by so doing they can be sure that every bottle of wine
- 29:52that bears the name Petrie is and always will be good wine. Well,
- 29:59Gregory, what story out of your case book are you planning to tell us
- 30:02next week? A little tale that concerns the date at the top of the
- 30:04mark Hoskins was killed and a certain gunman by the name of lem Carter who
- 30:08was convinced that I'd looked so much better as the course. See you next
- 30:12Monday, Harry. The Case Book of Gregory Hood is written by Dennis Green
- 30:33and Anthony Barker. Original music is composed and played by Dean Foster. Gail
- 30:40Gordon plays the part of Gregory Hood, and Sanderson Taylor is played by Art
- 30:45Gilmore. The Battery Wine Company of San Francisco, California invite you to tune
- 30:55and again next week, same time, same space. The Case Book of
- 30:59Gregory Heard coming to you from Hollywood, Kidio. This is Harry Bartel saying
- 31:07good night for the Petry family. Welcome back. I guess I got a
- 31:14reminder of the power of radio as I was sitting here kind of feeling very
- 31:22grossed out by the Black Museum, which was not actually there was just reading
- 31:26a radio script, but I was just kind of like, oh, that's
- 31:30ikey. But it's really does kind of establish the character of Gregory Hooding.
- 31:41You can kind of see certainly the character's definitely a connoisseur and with very particular
- 31:49taste, but not quite a snobbish, which I think makes an interesting character.
- 31:56All right. Well, oh and I also love the joke about when
- 32:01Harry Bartell asked him did you get killed? Which was obviously an absurd question,
- 32:07and his answer was equally absurd. What this early in the series was
- 32:13cute. All right, Well, that'll do it for today. Join us
- 32:15back here tomorrow and we'll continue on with the Star of Cape Town Matter.
- 32:21And we'll be back next Tuesday with another episode of the Casebook of Gregory hood
