Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Of course I am your host Clay and with me
- 0:25Speaker 2: like always is. Of course, Katie, Katie, how are you
- 0:29Speaker 2: doing today?
- 0:31Speaker 3: You know, I'm doing pretty good other than getting stabbed
- 0:33Speaker 3: at thirty two times in my head. But to feel better,
- 0:39Speaker 3: you told.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Me this and whenever I heard that you were getting
- 0:44Speaker 2: botox for migraines. It's an actual thing, people, Yes, for
- 0:51Speaker 2: some reason in my mind, it's just like you know,
- 0:56Speaker 2: just I just thought, oh, one little tiny syringe just
- 0:59Speaker 2: going in three your temple and then boom, migraine gone.
- 1:04Speaker 2: No the way you described it, of how like it's
- 1:09Speaker 2: like basically I feel like it could be possibly like
- 1:13Speaker 2: torture porn, like just seeing all these needles just go
- 1:16Speaker 2: like claw. Just like.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Matt said that, I grabbed his hand and squeezed it
- 1:25Speaker 3: harder than I did in labor or during the delivery process.
- 1:30Speaker 3: So but yeah, thirty two all over into my shoulders too.
- 1:37Speaker 2: But yeah, that's terrifying. Like I understand that you said that,
- 1:42Speaker 2: like it's worth it to get rid of the migraine
- 1:45Speaker 2: and get rid of the pain. But like just the
- 1:49Speaker 2: thought of thirty two needles. How long does that process take?
- 1:52Speaker 3: By the way, it's about twenty minutes.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Twenty minutes, so less than a minute per needle.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yeah, because it's like three to five pokes per area,
- 2:05Speaker 3: so like they like move your hair and like adjust
- 2:07Speaker 3: and everything, and then so they're all able to go
- 2:11Speaker 3: in the same area pretty quick. My neurologist says she
- 2:16Speaker 3: typically gets it done in ten minutes, but because I
- 2:19Speaker 3: almost passed out twice, it takes a little bit longer.
- 2:24Speaker 2: That is insane. But we have two reviews for you today,
- 2:35Speaker 2: and I think I'm gonna leave it all as one episode.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I'm not entirely sure. Yeah, me and Katie will talk
- 2:40Speaker 2: about it later after the live is through and after
- 2:44Speaker 2: we're done recording. But because these two are actually relatively
- 2:50Speaker 2: small in size as far as listening. Because yes, Seeds
- 2:57Speaker 2: of Starlight is a original, but Tempest Breaker is not
- 3:05Speaker 2: necessarily an audible original, but it is voiced with a
- 3:09Speaker 2: full cast, and it's meant as an audio drama. Correct.
- 3:14Speaker 2: We probably will be getting a script book, just like
- 3:19Speaker 2: we did with.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Yes it is due out in May.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Okay, yes, it is due out in May. We got
- 3:26Speaker 2: one for every single phase. So far, we got one
- 3:28Speaker 2: for Tempest Runner, which was in the first phase, then
- 3:33Speaker 2: we had the Battle of Jetta, which was in this
- 3:39Speaker 2: second phase, and now Tempest Breaker with this phase. On average,
- 3:47Speaker 2: I'm not going to be able to tell you the
- 3:48Speaker 2: exact hour and minute, but Seeds of Starlight is a
- 3:56Speaker 2: little more than four hours, while Tempest Breaker is a
- 3:59Speaker 2: little more than six hours. So if you're wanting to
- 4:05Speaker 2: listen to both, if you have a pretty chill work week,
- 4:09Speaker 2: I think you can get both of these done within
- 4:12Speaker 2: about three days, so it's really nice. I listened to
- 4:19Speaker 2: both of these on regular speed. I didn't speed them
- 4:22Speaker 2: up until today when I was re listening to Seeds
- 4:26Speaker 2: of Starlight. But these were pretty good stories. I really
- 4:33Speaker 2: really enjoyed Tempest Breaker. That one was really fun, and
- 4:40Speaker 2: I thoroughly enjoyed what Seeds of Starlight brought to the
- 4:46Speaker 2: overall story with Tap Tap and Killedo and all of
- 4:52Speaker 2: the younger Patawans and Jedi within the story of the
- 4:57Speaker 2: High Republic. But that's my non spoiler kind of baseline thoughts. Katie,
- 5:05Speaker 2: what'd you think?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I liked what we got with Seeds of Starlight mostly,
- 5:11Speaker 3: I feel like the difference between Tempest Breaker and Seeds
- 5:16Speaker 3: of Starlight is that we only got one narrator for
- 5:18Speaker 3: its Seeds of Starlight, which it's a junior novel. Like
- 5:21Speaker 3: it's like, if you think of what this would be
- 5:25Speaker 3: on your shelf, it's probably like a middle grade is
- 5:30Speaker 3: what you're looking at. And so it doesn't make sense
- 5:34Speaker 3: to bring in multiple narrators. But when you have an
- 5:38Speaker 3: audio original type thing. Because I won't call Seeds of
- 5:42Speaker 3: Starlet an audio drama because there's not a full cast,
- 5:44Speaker 3: but when you have an audio specific story, you want
- 5:51Speaker 3: to be able to distinguish the different voices that are
- 5:54Speaker 3: at play. And while I like the narrator for Seeds
- 5:58Speaker 3: of Starlight, I'm gonna have to pull up who it
- 5:59Speaker 3: was because I totally forgot. He just doesn't articulate well
- 6:06Speaker 3: the different changes. Uh, Todd Havebercorn. He does, He's done
- 6:16Speaker 3: some of the middle grade books previous, it's like, but
- 6:19Speaker 3: he just he doesn't hit the different vocal instances, especially
- 6:24Speaker 3: between tup Cup and Kildo is where I had a
- 6:26Speaker 3: lot of issues with. King is the main character in Seeds.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Cam Cam is different because he's got a vocoder instead
- 6:37Speaker 3: of like vocal chords. Yeah, because it was he was injured,
- 6:43Speaker 3: and everything will get into that, but the difference is
- 6:47Speaker 3: kind of astounding when you put them together, because like
- 6:49Speaker 3: I put on Seeds of Starlight this morning and I
- 6:51Speaker 3: kept for my second listen. I have listened to it
- 6:55Speaker 3: once already, but I was like trying to pay attention
- 7:00Speaker 3: to it during work, and while I was able to
- 7:03Speaker 3: pay attention to Tempest Breaker just fine, because of the
- 7:05Speaker 3: audio differences, I kept getting lost with Seeds of Starlight
- 7:09Speaker 3: because there's no like Cam said this, Tip Tup said this,
- 7:14Speaker 3: Like it's just kind of the changes made.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Like I am not a huge fan of the
- 7:24Speaker 2: voice that he chose for tip Tep.
- 7:29Speaker 3: It was.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Very high pitched and very whiny kind of voice. When
- 7:40Speaker 2: when I think of tip Tup and like how she
- 7:45Speaker 2: is characteristically, that's not really the voice I gave her. Yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 2: you know, so I and I had to come back
- 7:54Speaker 2: because I believe he has done all of the other
- 8:00Speaker 2: like younger aged books, and so I think he was
- 8:05Speaker 2: he did the one where tip Tep was a main
- 8:08Speaker 2: character before, so I need to go back and actually
- 8:11Speaker 2: listen to see if he gave the same voice to
- 8:14Speaker 2: tep Tep. Now that yeah, he did.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Escape from Vala, and Be Aware the Nameless. Okay, he
- 8:24Speaker 3: also did Race to Crash Point Tower, and Midnight Horizon.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, which are all the younger uh uh, young adult books.
- 8:34Speaker 3: They Horizon is a young adult the other three are.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Middle grade middle grade. Yeah, that's what it was. Sorry,
- 8:42Speaker 2: Now I think we can go ahead and kind of
- 8:45Speaker 2: go into the spoiler territory with this one again. Guys,
- 8:49Speaker 2: if you want to listen to yourself, you can totally
- 8:51Speaker 2: do that. Go ahead and pause this review, go listen
- 8:54Speaker 2: to the story. Like I said, it's only a little
- 8:57Speaker 2: over four hours long.
- 8:59Speaker 3: All right, y'all, we're hit our first ad break and
- 9:01Speaker 3: we will be right back in three two one.
- 9:05Speaker 2: We said that Cam was the main character for this story.
- 9:14Speaker 2: He is a very interesting character due to the fact that,
- 9:21Speaker 2: like we said, he does have a vocoder. He is,
- 9:28Speaker 2: he got injured, and it talks about how he had
- 9:33Speaker 2: to get used to the fact that, like, hey, my
- 9:36Speaker 2: voice will never come back from this injury and this
- 9:39Speaker 2: is the new normal. Now, I will say there was
- 9:44Speaker 2: one moment that I thought was really cool in the
- 9:48Speaker 2: thought process behind this being an audio book or audio
- 9:55Speaker 2: original is the fact that in the moments where he
- 9:59Speaker 2: is reaching out in the force. He does not have
- 10:03Speaker 2: the votecoder sound. He has his original voice, and I
- 10:06Speaker 2: thought that was a nice touch.
- 10:09Speaker 3: It is because that tells you what he thinks about himself,
- 10:14Speaker 3: and the votecoder is not necessarily a part of him, though.
- 10:17Speaker 3: I would like to see because I'm seeing. I pulled
- 10:20Speaker 3: up the Seeds of Starlight on Wikipedia just to see
- 10:26Speaker 3: who the narrator was. Apparently this is the first of
- 10:28Speaker 3: two parts. I don't know where that was listed because
- 10:33Speaker 3: I had I didn't know.
- 10:34Speaker 2: That, So I'm Seeds of Starlight. Where does it say
- 10:38Speaker 2: part one?
- 10:40Speaker 3: And is the first of two parts? At the very end?
- 10:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Audible that is part of their Star Wars
- 10:49Speaker 2: Adventures Audible originals. See. This is weird because there was
- 10:56Speaker 2: an Audible original that was not part of the High
- 11:00Speaker 2: Republic m m. And then there's this one. Hmm.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I wonder I had no idea about this.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll have to go back to see because the
- 11:14Speaker 2: first we ever heard about Seats of Starlight was when
- 11:16Speaker 2: somebody randomly founded. There's nothing that had like a press
- 11:21Speaker 2: release or an announcement or anything, so I think maybe
- 11:28Speaker 2: we should or hopefully somebody has kind of scoured some
- 11:33Speaker 2: interviews or something since it's been found, and possibly somebody
- 11:38Speaker 2: did say, hey, this is a part you know, of
- 11:41Speaker 2: a two part thing.
- 11:43Speaker 3: That the because I definitely don't see a reference to
- 11:47Speaker 3: that in the Wikipedia, because typically like they cite the
- 11:50Speaker 3: references and everything. But in the second part, I would
- 11:54Speaker 3: be hoping that Cam kind of grows to accept the
- 11:58Speaker 3: vocoder as part of himself, because like, I think that
- 12:02Speaker 3: would feel like a lot of maturity and like, hey,
- 12:05Speaker 3: like I'm accepting this part of myself, the vocoder's part
- 12:08Speaker 3: of me kind of thing.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah, And that was like a big part of this
- 12:13Speaker 2: story is the fact that, like, because of his injury,
- 12:17Speaker 2: because of his voice, he became very reclused. He didn't
- 12:22Speaker 2: talk a whole lot. He was kind of shy, he like,
- 12:26Speaker 2: and it was a very big point of him and
- 12:30Speaker 2: his master, like whenever there was moments where he was like, hey,
- 12:34Speaker 2: you know, I want to say this, or hey, I
- 12:37Speaker 2: have a feeling about this, or you know, these small
- 12:40Speaker 2: little moments that they had together, his master did say, hey,
- 12:44Speaker 2: that's good, Like I encourage you to speak up when
- 12:48Speaker 2: you have these feelings or when you have this thought,
- 12:51Speaker 2: like speak up, So that way we can hear you
- 12:54Speaker 2: on these things. And when I say speak up, it
- 12:56Speaker 2: doesn't mean volume wize, it means like actually speak instead
- 13:00Speaker 2: of just.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Yeah what you're thinking.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Yeah. But the overall story here is uh, well here
- 13:10Speaker 2: I could just read the publisher summary. When people start
- 13:14Speaker 2: going missing on the oceanic world of Iram, we were
- 13:17Speaker 2: going back to Iram. One Jedi master and three Padawans
- 13:21Speaker 2: are all that the Jedi can spare to investigate. Upon
- 13:25Speaker 2: their arrival, the Jedi quickly realized that there is more
- 13:28Speaker 2: at stake than they could possibly have imagined. A dangerous
- 13:32Speaker 2: threat has emerged from the crashed Starlight Beacon beneath the
- 13:35Speaker 2: ocean depths, and no one is safe, not even the Jedi.
- 13:40Speaker 3: And to dive into spoilers, this brings back the drink
- 13:44Speaker 3: heear because we've kind of been wondering with the a
- 13:52Speaker 3: Balance Volume three, what kind of was going on with
- 13:57Speaker 3: the drink year. I mean, we had seen the drink
- 13:59Speaker 3: gear and I think it was temptation of the Force
- 14:04Speaker 3: and so kind of okay, what's going on with this?
- 14:06Speaker 3: Is the Great Progenitor back, like what's happening? And so
- 14:09Speaker 3: this does go to to show like that the dream
- 14:13Speaker 3: gear is trying to amass like an army to like
- 14:16Speaker 3: protect itself and get itself off world at the end
- 14:19Speaker 3: of this because it's scared of what's coming. Okay, Like,
- 14:24Speaker 3: one of the problems that I had with this one
- 14:27Speaker 3: is it's not clear where this is at in the timeline,
- 14:33Speaker 3: And so.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I was thinking the exact same thing, because one of
- 14:40Speaker 2: the big things is that Cam mentions that tep Tep
- 14:45Speaker 2: and Keldo have gone up against the nameless. The last
- 14:50Speaker 2: time we spoke about about Keldo and tep Tap was
- 14:58Speaker 2: they're very direct, you know, fight with the nameless. In
- 15:05Speaker 2: what was the title of the book, It was Beware
- 15:08Speaker 2: the Nameless. And at the end of that book, tep
- 15:12Speaker 2: Tep had direct contact with a nameless and she became
- 15:18Speaker 2: unconscious and that was the And we had all of
- 15:23Speaker 2: these like like tinfoil hat thoughts of like, oh, she's
- 15:26Speaker 2: gonna be like a really big part of like the
- 15:29Speaker 2: you know, the the finishing of the nameless, and like
- 15:32Speaker 2: what's going to happen to them and all these other things,
- 15:35Speaker 2: and nothing, nothing happened, and they're just gonna skip over that.
- 15:42Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think this is where the disconnect kind
- 15:46Speaker 3: of lies with not having a defined timeline in this
- 15:53Speaker 3: case because like the other thing, so I didn't even
- 15:57Speaker 3: put tep Tap and Kieldo together, like I knew like
- 16:00Speaker 3: that had faced the Nameless. So this is after Beware
- 16:02Speaker 3: the Nameless and stuff. But Eve Bayer, who we saw
- 16:06Speaker 3: lost her pad one in Tiers of the Nameless, and
- 16:11Speaker 3: it was.
- 16:12Speaker 2: The same Master I thought it was. I wasn't entirely
- 16:15Speaker 2: sure if it was the same one.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Yeah, so she was kidnapped by a child of the
- 16:20Speaker 3: Storm and basically, like portured with the Nameless, lost her
- 16:24Speaker 3: paddlewan and everything and is like a shell of herself
- 16:28Speaker 3: at the end of Tears of the Nameless and then
- 16:30Speaker 3: comes into this and is like, oh, yeah, I got
- 16:33Speaker 3: another pad one. Like that's not how she is, obviously,
- 16:36Speaker 3: but like that's how it kind of feels.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Well, it kind of feels like that. But at this like, God,
- 16:43Speaker 2: now everything's hitting me all at once, and I'm not
- 16:44Speaker 2: entirely sure how I feel about this original now for
- 16:48Speaker 2: the fact that Master Bayer is very encouraging, very soft spoken,
- 16:53Speaker 2: and of course I think she needs to be that
- 16:54Speaker 2: way because Cam is who he is and not saying
- 16:58Speaker 2: that like oh he's sensitive, you know, we need to
- 17:00Speaker 2: treat him special or anything. But he's just been in
- 17:03Speaker 2: an accident. He's a lot younger, it seems like, than
- 17:07Speaker 2: her old padawan. But also she went through a very
- 17:12Speaker 2: traumatic experience with having to stay inside the same ship
- 17:17Speaker 2: as a nameless for weeks, I think on end, depending
- 17:23Speaker 2: on how that all goes down as far as the
- 17:25Speaker 2: timeline in Tears of the Nameless and then from being
- 17:31Speaker 2: tortured by a child of the Storm to being manipulated
- 17:37Speaker 2: and controlled by the drin gear in this one, Hey,
- 17:43Speaker 2: take a sabbatical, retire from the freaking Jedi counselor or
- 17:47Speaker 2: whatever you're a part of in the Jedi Academy and
- 17:49Speaker 2: just go home. Like if I was manipulated like that
- 17:55Speaker 2: and tortured all within a matter of like probably a
- 17:59Speaker 2: month or two. Yeah, sorry, being a Jedi is not
- 18:03Speaker 2: for me. Peace out. Uh, somebody else could take cam
- 18:07Speaker 2: as a master. I can't do this anymore. That's insane.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Yeah, And like I get we're in the middle of
- 18:18Speaker 3: the Guardian protocols and I get like, okay, hey, we're Jedi,
- 18:22Speaker 3: Like we got to take care of other people first,
- 18:24Speaker 3: Like that's the whole like mission of the Jedi right,
- 18:29Speaker 3: but it's still wild to me, like very wild that
- 18:36Speaker 3: we're just kind of moving in this direction. So yeah,
- 18:44Speaker 3: O than that, I really enjoy Tapped Up and Kill though,
- 18:48Speaker 3: as always I think they're an amazing duo. Uh. They're
- 18:54Speaker 3: both kind of our LGBTQ representation in this with Tep
- 18:57Speaker 3: tep Trance and killdo kind of having that attraction to
- 19:02Speaker 3: oh my gosh, what's his name? From Escape from Valow
- 19:05Speaker 3: It starts with the.
- 19:06Speaker 2: G uh oh wait he was mentioned but not actually here?
- 19:15Speaker 2: Do they not have him? Gaby Gaby?
- 19:18Speaker 3: Yes, So those are kind of our LGBTQ representation. I
- 19:26Speaker 3: can't remember if Cam talked about it in this book either,
- 19:31Speaker 3: but those are the ones I know of, so uh yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 3: So this one came out November fourteenth. It did get
- 19:42Speaker 3: a lot of like headway in that first week of release,
- 19:47Speaker 3: so it's been about two weeks at this point. And
- 19:51Speaker 3: I think George Mann is definitely an artist. He definitely
- 19:54Speaker 3: writes a good story, but I think there was some
- 19:56Speaker 3: storytelling decisions here that just kind of failed with But.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I also wonder if this was solely a like, hey,
- 20:07Speaker 2: we have to kind of add this story just for
- 20:11Speaker 2: the fact that we want to do an audible original,
- 20:14Speaker 2: not necessarily like, hey, this is a staple of our
- 20:17Speaker 2: phase and so you have to put a lot of
- 20:20Speaker 2: thought into this, you know type of story. Yeah, so
- 20:22Speaker 2: I wonder if that's kind of like it he kind
- 20:26Speaker 2: of just what's the what's the phrase that I'm looking for?
- 20:30Speaker 2: He kind of just like wrote it in, you know,
- 20:35Speaker 2: he kind of just like yeah, here you go. Like
- 20:37Speaker 2: he just turned in a very simple script probably and
- 20:42Speaker 2: they're like, okay, yeah, this can work.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Yeah, And that's kind of honestly what it feels like.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I will be interested to see part two and see
- 20:51Speaker 3: kind of how things continue to play out, because I
- 20:54Speaker 3: do think Cam is an interesting character. I mean, we've
- 20:58Speaker 3: never like growing up with legends like okay, you just
- 21:03Speaker 3: throw away the back to and everything's repaired. So to
- 21:06Speaker 3: add in kind of the disabilities of hey you lost
- 21:08Speaker 3: your voice, Hey, like how does this work now for you?
- 21:14Speaker 3: And like refinding that storytelling capability that you had as
- 21:19Speaker 3: a young thing. So I do think he's a promising character.
- 21:25Speaker 3: And I like that we got the drink gear back
- 21:28Speaker 3: and like fully kind of understand what's going on, Like
- 21:30Speaker 3: they are frightened of the blight, they want to get
- 21:34Speaker 3: away as Yeah, so because at first with Phase three
- 21:43Speaker 3: it felt like we had just forgotten about the drink hear,
- 21:46Speaker 3: like the drink here were just something to add on
- 21:49Speaker 3: and kind of the occlusion zone slash the blight kind
- 21:52Speaker 3: of replaced the drink gear for Phase three storytelling. So
- 21:56Speaker 3: to get those back was good.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I do like and they were like a very
- 22:04Speaker 2: small port, a very small part of Temptation of the Forest.
- 22:09Speaker 2: They but they only showed up at the very very end,
- 22:12Speaker 2: and we had that small subplot that Bury and Bell
- 22:20Speaker 2: were kind of like feeling that the drin gear might
- 22:24Speaker 2: be a part of things. So this is kind of
- 22:27Speaker 2: like leading up to some sorts of either huge confrontation
- 22:34Speaker 2: with the drin gear and the Blight. And I'm really
- 22:38Speaker 2: curious as to how this will make its headway because
- 22:43Speaker 2: of stuff that we are now seeing also in Tempest Breaker.
- 22:48Speaker 2: So it's going to be very interesting how all of
- 22:51Speaker 2: this kind of wraps up because we're at the end
- 22:57Speaker 2: of twenty twenty four. We're looking to end this story
- 23:02Speaker 2: of the High Republic mid twenty twenty five, summer of
- 23:07Speaker 2: twenty twenty five, and if I'm correct.
- 23:09Speaker 3: I think the release date is June twelfth, four Trials
- 23:15Speaker 3: of the Jedi.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Oh, I was June seventeenth, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, So
- 23:26Speaker 2: we were just having this conversation with of course guys
- 23:30Speaker 2: over at geek first. You know, this is this is
- 23:35Speaker 2: the end of this story. Of course, we've seen from
- 23:41Speaker 2: Tom and Michael over there at Lucasfilm Publishing that they've
- 23:50Speaker 2: kind of teased and sinuated like, hey, you know, don't worry,
- 23:54Speaker 2: we still have stuff in the works. But that doesn't
- 23:58Speaker 2: necessarily mean that it'll be High Republic related, but it
- 24:02Speaker 2: might be. And that's the kind of hope that I'm
- 24:04Speaker 2: willing to cling onto when it comes to these novels
- 24:07Speaker 2: of Star Wars. But like, that's you know, I said
- 24:11Speaker 2: it tonight in our in our Star Wars group chat,
- 24:15Speaker 2: and I'll say it here. I think it is absolutely
- 24:19Speaker 2: okay that this large story that has introduced us to
- 24:23Speaker 2: the era of the High Republic. I think it's perfectly
- 24:27Speaker 2: fine with this story having a definitive ending. It was
- 24:33Speaker 2: the rise of Marchion Row and what we can only
- 24:40Speaker 2: assume will be the downfall of Marchion Rowe and the
- 24:44Speaker 2: conclusion of the Blight and all of that stuff, and
- 24:48Speaker 2: the drink gear like that is one full story, and
- 24:53Speaker 2: I'm okay with that ending. But the High Republic era
- 24:57Speaker 2: is so vast and so large, and you've kind of
- 25:01Speaker 2: already created these little stems of stories that we could
- 25:06Speaker 2: branch off to and be like, I want to know
- 25:09Speaker 2: more about this, and I want to learn more about that.
- 25:12Speaker 2: So I hope it does stay in kind of like
- 25:18Speaker 2: the little box of knickknacks that Star Wars has and
- 25:22Speaker 2: is able to kind of like, oh, we need a
- 25:25Speaker 2: story for you know, this quarter of twenty twenty six,
- 25:29Speaker 2: let's go ahead and throw a High Republic story out there,
- 25:32Speaker 2: you know. Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 3: I would say we're probably looking at a break for
- 25:38Speaker 3: the Higher Republic, probably to give it a couple of
- 25:41Speaker 3: years and just kind of see how the story matures
- 25:44Speaker 3: and how the audience continues to kind of sit with
- 25:48Speaker 3: the High Republic and what's come out of it, to
- 25:51Speaker 3: kind of see popularity. I would say the end of
- 25:55Speaker 3: twenty twenty five and early twenty twenty six we're looking
- 25:58Speaker 3: at some test case stories for like, Okay, what is
- 26:02Speaker 3: gonna work now, and then maybe end of twenty twenty
- 26:06Speaker 3: six we'll see another Higher Republic story to kind of
- 26:10Speaker 3: see how things play out, We're gonna go into our
- 26:15Speaker 3: second ad break and we'll be right back.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I think that's it for the Seeds of Starlight. If
- 26:22Speaker 2: you want to move on to Tempest Breaker. This is,
- 26:28Speaker 2: of course a audio drama with a full cast of characters.
- 26:38Speaker 3: This is and this was absolutely fun and y'all, just
- 26:43Speaker 3: so we did get this early, and this audio drama
- 26:47Speaker 3: is available on all audio platforms, so unlike Seeds of Starlight,
- 26:51Speaker 3: which is an audible original, this one is available on
- 26:54Speaker 3: all audio platforms next week, December third, so that is
- 26:59Speaker 3: when you can expect this. We are gonna go into
- 27:02Speaker 3: some spoilers today just because this is a roughly six
- 27:07Speaker 3: and a half hour story, so we want to be
- 27:12Speaker 3: able to talk about some of this stuff, and with
- 27:14Speaker 3: the fact that it is so short, it kind of
- 27:17Speaker 3: lends itself to be talked about. If you are waiting
- 27:20Speaker 3: on a script release for this one, you are gonna
- 27:22Speaker 3: have to wait sometime because it is not due out
- 27:26Speaker 3: until May thirteenth of next year. So that is that.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Yeah, And we won't, like Katie said, we won't go,
- 27:38Speaker 2: you know, step by step every single chapter of this story.
- 27:43Speaker 2: We're only gonna hit some highlights we're gonna have There's
- 27:46Speaker 2: some conversation pieces here that I'm sure that we both
- 27:49Speaker 2: want to touch up on, but just like any in
- 27:53Speaker 2: all reviews that we do, we want to avoid the
- 27:55Speaker 2: heavy spoiler stuff. So again, this is gonna be available
- 28:00Speaker 2: December third. It was given to us, and we did
- 28:04Speaker 2: have the green light to start talking about it on
- 28:07Speaker 2: the twenty six, which is technically yesterday at the time
- 28:10Speaker 2: of this recording. So that's why we're gonna go ahead
- 28:13Speaker 2: and talk about it today and of course release this
- 28:16Speaker 2: episode on its regular schedule.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Oh and yeah, so if you want to kind of
- 28:23Speaker 3: know where we're at with Tempest Breaker, I would recommend
- 28:28Speaker 3: reading the first ten issues of the Marvel comic. That
- 28:32Speaker 3: is also true, very important. It is a big part
- 28:36Speaker 3: of the story. This is kind of like the hiatus
- 28:39Speaker 3: issue for that because the High Republic Marvel comic will
- 28:45Speaker 3: be picking back up in February, so this is kind
- 28:48Speaker 3: of your middle piece to kind of get you between
- 28:53Speaker 3: the two runs for the Marvel line. Sorry, y'all, I'm
- 28:57Speaker 3: suggested apparently.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Also, I want to say, if you were a big
- 29:02Speaker 2: fan of Tempest Runner way back in twenty twenty one,
- 29:10Speaker 2: then I think you're gonna absolutely love this, love this story.
- 29:14Speaker 2: They have some callbacks to that story as well, So
- 29:20Speaker 2: I think if you want to make a full event
- 29:23Speaker 2: of it, I would say listen to Tempest Runner, read
- 29:27Speaker 2: the first ten issues of the current ongoing High Republic comic,
- 29:33Speaker 2: and then listen to this.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Yeah, because it is one big story overall. And as
- 29:41Speaker 3: much as they would like to say, oh, you can
- 29:43Speaker 3: listen to the or you can read the individual mediums
- 29:47Speaker 3: on their own, you just can't in this phase unfortunately.
- 29:51Speaker 3: And Clay and I have talked about that, so we're
- 29:52Speaker 3: not going to go into it again. But Clay, why
- 29:55Speaker 3: don't you dive into it. I'm gonna go grab Pseudo fed.
- 29:58Speaker 3: I'll come right back.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. So one thing is I believe this was
- 30:04Speaker 2: also something that Tempest Runner did. This is a uh
- 30:14Speaker 2: interview just like in the first one with oh shoot,
- 30:19Speaker 2: who was the interviewer? She was also in uh uh
- 30:27Speaker 2: oh shoot? What was this?
- 30:30Speaker 1: Uh?
- 30:32Speaker 2: Dang it? Katie is coming back, so hopefully she remembers
- 30:37Speaker 2: the name of the Katie. Do you remember the name
- 30:44Speaker 2: of the interviewer that was in uh A Temptation of
- 30:51Speaker 2: the Force.
- 30:53Speaker 3: So it is real. It is the one with the
- 30:57Speaker 3: eyepiece from like the Rising Storm.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yes, uhm real, uh real, I'm trying to see is
- 31:14Speaker 2: she's not even in the Wikipedia. That's why I couldn't
- 31:17Speaker 2: find her name. But we do see.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Again, I don't think she was named as like an
- 31:25Speaker 3: interviewer in the in any previews or anything, like. I
- 31:33Speaker 3: had no idea she was going to be on this.
- 31:38Speaker 2: But yeah, I I really like this part because again,
- 31:42Speaker 2: just like in Tempest Runner, this is a Lorna d story.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Now I did tell this to Taylor and Travis. This
- 31:54Speaker 2: does have very big implications for the greater story of
- 31:58Speaker 2: the Higher Republic. It deals with the Light. It deals
- 32:01Speaker 2: with the Jedi trying to find a cure for the Blight,
- 32:05Speaker 2: and all of these other things. Uh even with like
- 32:10Speaker 2: dealing with the fact that you know, the nameless and
- 32:13Speaker 2: they still need to find a solution to them as well,
- 32:18Speaker 2: you know, kind of. So there's small parts of the
- 32:22Speaker 2: greater story that do fall into here, which is why
- 32:25Speaker 2: I think that it does fit very well in the
- 32:29Speaker 2: story of the High Republic. But this story deals with
- 32:37Speaker 2: Avar Cris, with Keiv Trenis Skier and oh shoot, what
- 32:46Speaker 2: is the little girl's name?
- 32:50Speaker 3: They haven't named her. It's just the Yacomb Child.
- 32:55Speaker 2: The Yacomb Child, yes, and the Yukomb Child, which we
- 32:58Speaker 2: actually talked about in the very end of the first volume,
- 33:03Speaker 2: which is I think the first ten issues.
- 33:06Speaker 3: The first five we have not talked.
- 33:10Speaker 2: We have not not yet that is coming out in
- 33:12Speaker 2: volume two. But yeah, the first five issues of the
- 33:17Speaker 2: ongoing comic series.
- 33:20Speaker 3: The interviewer.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I have to ask Katie, did you and
- 33:33Speaker 2: I think this is a this is like I feel
- 33:37Speaker 2: like I know the answer to the question. But we
- 33:41Speaker 2: have seen Lorna d all over the map when it
- 33:47Speaker 2: comes to the spectrum of good and evil. She's a
- 33:51Speaker 2: good guy, she's a bad guy, she is neutral. She
- 33:56Speaker 2: you know, it is kind of there just to save
- 33:58Speaker 2: her own behind. How do you feel with where Lorna
- 34:06Speaker 2: D like kind of fell in this story?
- 34:17Speaker 3: I feel like I would have rather seen this on
- 34:19Speaker 3: comic And I know that publishing continuously can be an issue,
- 34:26Speaker 3: and Cavin honestly deserved a break, if writing this story
- 34:32Speaker 3: could even be considered a break, But like, I feel
- 34:39Speaker 3: like a lot is left the imagination when this character
- 34:45Speaker 3: has become such a focal point for the comics, and
- 34:51Speaker 3: I know she's going back to the comics, because we've
- 34:53Speaker 3: seen the covers and everything for issue line. But that
- 35:00Speaker 3: do where I struggle with this, and especially like the
- 35:02Speaker 3: ballroom scene. I'm getting off topic from what you asked,
- 35:05Speaker 3: I know, but the ballroom scene in particular where Laurna
- 35:11Speaker 3: is like, man, if you didn't want to be noticed,
- 35:15Speaker 3: then Sarah should have found your marshal another dress.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Like, oh, so okay, this, you make a good point.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Screw my question. Let's talk about this real quick. I
- 35:27Speaker 2: I I people are gonna not like this comment that
- 35:31Speaker 2: I'm about to make, but I'm gonna say it anyway
- 35:34Speaker 2: because I think it's glorious. I love how gay this
- 35:39Speaker 2: book is.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Okay, so Quinn just drooling over Avar Chris in this dress, Okay,
- 35:52Speaker 4: you're right.
- 35:54Speaker 2: I need I need somebody to drop some concept art
- 36:00Speaker 2: just to see what Avar Chris looked like. But the
- 36:04Speaker 2: whole time, this like, this is a very serious mission.
- 36:09Speaker 2: We see Quinn and Lorna de have teamed up with
- 36:15Speaker 2: Avar Chris and with uh oh shoots, yes Keeve Trinis
- 36:26Speaker 2: under special circumstances. They've basically made Lorna d a bountie hunter.
- 36:35Speaker 2: They're like, hey, you can be a bounty hunter but
- 36:39Speaker 2: only with a sponsor, and Avar Chris is her sponsor,
- 36:44Speaker 2: and so they are and I.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Do yeah, because, especially after the way it ended in
- 36:53Speaker 3: Phase one's comic, like to get the pairing and to
- 36:56Speaker 3: see the to collaborate, but also like Lorna actually ends
- 37:00Speaker 3: up saving Amars but a couple of times. Yeah, I
- 37:03Speaker 3: loved it. Loved it so much.
- 37:06Speaker 2: I I love how they are forced to work together
- 37:10Speaker 2: because they know each other so well that it only
- 37:13Speaker 2: makes sense that they work together. But so they're they're
- 37:18Speaker 2: they're working together, and they find out about this ball
- 37:21Speaker 2: that you know, this planet is having four Marchianroe and
- 37:25Speaker 2: they're saying, hey, he is the guest of honor. He's
- 37:30Speaker 2: going to be protecting us from anything and everything. So
- 37:34Speaker 2: he's gonna be here. He's gonna have his nameless he's
- 37:37Speaker 2: gonna have his bodyguard, and this whole party is for him.
- 37:41Speaker 2: And the whole reason why our team of heroes is
- 37:46Speaker 2: even going there is to find information on uh Bulin,
- 37:55Speaker 2: who is of course the UH the the the scientists,
- 38:01Speaker 2: the evil scientists UH for Marchian Rowe, and he's been
- 38:06Speaker 2: experimenting on the blight the nameless even Skier in this story,
- 38:14Speaker 2: So there's a side mission that, uh that they are
- 38:19Speaker 2: also looking for Skier to you know, to bring him
- 38:22Speaker 2: back home and everything else. But they need Buland for
- 38:25Speaker 2: the fact that he is doing all of these tests
- 38:27Speaker 2: for the blight and everything else. So they're only looking
- 38:30Speaker 2: for information. They're not looking to get in trouble at all.
- 38:35Speaker 2: But I love that Quinn was just like, you know, hey, hey, hey, HEYVR, Chris,
- 38:39Speaker 2: it's how you doing, you know kind of thing. And
- 38:43Speaker 2: I loved it because Lorna and Quinn have there. They're
- 38:49Speaker 2: they're an item. They have history and it's rocky, and
- 38:52Speaker 2: you know, they hate each other, but they also care
- 38:55Speaker 2: about each other and everything else. But Quinn doesn't care.
- 38:58Speaker 2: She doesn't care that that Loura is gonna hear any
- 39:02Speaker 2: of this because she, like I said, is a drooling
- 39:06Speaker 2: for Avar Chris. And I thought that was absolutely hilarious.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Yes, and it's like there's just some like where Lorna
- 39:15Speaker 3: says something or I think I love Tay in this too,
- 39:19Speaker 3: tays Derek, hysterical.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Yes, he is also a really good He says a.
- 39:23Speaker 3: Couple of things, and we do get Craig Art back
- 39:28Speaker 3: the bartender from Jetta and he they helped supply a
- 39:35Speaker 3: ship to get tay Laurna, Avart and Kiev back into
- 39:41Speaker 3: the occlusion zone. And you just hear Craig Ar in
- 39:46Speaker 3: the background like, oh, you know what you could do
- 39:50Speaker 3: for me? You could pay your tab, you could pay
- 39:53Speaker 3: your husband's tab, you could pay your friend's tab. And
- 39:57Speaker 3: Tay's like like, sorry, can't hear you.
- 40:01Speaker 2: It's breaking up, And did you just hear your husband?
- 40:06Speaker 3: Only five hundred credits?
- 40:09Speaker 5: And I'm like, dude, what I love about this is
- 40:17Speaker 5: I had always thought that Phase two.
- 40:22Speaker 2: Was just a fun way to add some additional history
- 40:28Speaker 2: to the High Republic. You know, we're going back so
- 40:32Speaker 2: far behind. There's no way that anything that was done
- 40:40Speaker 2: in Phase two would have dramatic implications other than, of course,
- 40:45Speaker 2: what we are seeing. The descendant, that is Marchian Roe
- 40:50Speaker 2: create this chaos in the universe, right and they're in
- 40:53Speaker 2: the galaxy. So it's like, okay, you know, that's just
- 40:56Speaker 2: a fun little backstory history thing. But dun, dunt, dun.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Spoiler warning three two one. We find out that Bulan
- 41:10Speaker 2: is a part of the Path of the Open Hand.
- 41:15Speaker 3: This we knew that already.
- 41:19Speaker 2: I didn't. I don't know why I didn't know this.
- 41:22Speaker 2: I don't know why. This was like such like a
- 41:25Speaker 2: moment for me again because it came up.
- 41:28Speaker 3: It came up when we were talking about Cataclysm because
- 41:32Speaker 3: Bulan is mentioned in there.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, yes, Okay, now it's starting to come
- 41:37Speaker 2: back to me.
- 41:38Speaker 3: But the thing but like we go deeper into it,
- 41:41Speaker 3: like there deeper into easter Egg connection with having Bullan's
- 41:45Speaker 3: father in Cataclysm. But now we go deeper into it
- 41:49Speaker 3: and it's actually confirmed.
- 41:51Speaker 2: Yes, it's actually confirmed. We go back to freaking Jetta
- 41:56Speaker 2: like it is. We are actually moving in to territory
- 42:01Speaker 2: that was solely from Phase two. And I think that's
- 42:05Speaker 2: what I love overall, is that, like, hey, this wasn't
- 42:09Speaker 2: just something that was like just a part of the
- 42:12Speaker 2: small history of the High Republic. This is actually stuff
- 42:15Speaker 2: that was set up for you to have this aha
- 42:19Speaker 2: moment in here.
- 42:21Speaker 3: Yeah, And.
- 42:23Speaker 2: I love this because Bullin' and this was almost as
- 42:31Speaker 2: much of a like gasping moment as like the very
- 42:36Speaker 2: confused look that we both had when we read one
- 42:41Speaker 2: story that had path of the open hand and then
- 42:44Speaker 2: he immediately turned to the closed fist and you're like
- 42:47Speaker 2: what the hell happened? Right well here, we like he
- 42:52Speaker 2: reveals quote unquote reveals that he's a part of the
- 42:55Speaker 2: path of the Open Hand. And that's when even Tay
- 42:58Speaker 2: is like, don't you mean the closed He's like, I
- 43:01Speaker 2: love that. This was like so cool because we are
- 43:04Speaker 2: plugging well, go ahead, go ahead.
- 43:07Speaker 3: I I was like, this is so cool because we
- 43:09Speaker 3: are plugging things in, we are making sure it all connects,
- 43:13Speaker 3: the red strings are coming together.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Yes, But what I love more about it, even more so,
- 43:20Speaker 2: is the fact that we had conversations even when this
- 43:26Speaker 2: was happening. When in Phase two, when there was the
- 43:32Speaker 2: definitive like moment when all of those members of the
- 43:37Speaker 2: Path of the Open Hand were down underneath in that
- 43:42Speaker 2: large bunker, they were all like looking towards the mother
- 43:45Speaker 2: to make a decision and all of these other things,
- 43:49Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, you just see everybody
- 43:51Speaker 2: like we are the path of the closed fist, and
- 43:53Speaker 2: you're like, oh my god. Like we even talked about like,
- 43:58Speaker 2: are there gonna be people who don't want to go
- 44:01Speaker 2: down this path? And we even saw that during the
- 44:04Speaker 2: Battle of Dolma, that there was members running to ships
- 44:12Speaker 2: to run away to flee. These were people that did
- 44:17Speaker 2: not agree with the idea of becoming this violent group.
- 44:23Speaker 3: And we're about to jump into our third ad, y'all.
- 44:27Speaker 3: We promise we'll be right back, we promise.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Bulin, in some form of fashion, lays in a very
- 44:35Speaker 2: weird amalgam of both, because he is such a weird, sadistic,
- 44:42Speaker 2: angry individual doing all of this testing with science and
- 44:48Speaker 2: everything else so like and working with Marcion Roe, so
- 44:51Speaker 2: that path of the closed fist is there, like deep
- 44:54Speaker 2: rooted into him. But he still holds the values of
- 44:59Speaker 2: the path of the the open hand, with gifts freely
- 45:03Speaker 2: given and freeing the force and kind of like the
- 45:10Speaker 2: ignorance of all of that because he talks like all
- 45:12Speaker 2: of these things with Skier and Series like, hey, that's
- 45:15Speaker 2: not how any of this works, Like you're you're saying
- 45:19Speaker 2: all this, but that's not how it works. And that's
- 45:21Speaker 2: what makes the ending of this story kind of heartbreaking,
- 45:27Speaker 2: is because Bullan had this idea of like, oh, I
- 45:31Speaker 2: finally get to fulfill the promise of the Path of
- 45:33Speaker 2: the Open Hand, and then it completely goes sideways.
- 45:36Speaker 3: For him, and I think it was such an important
- 45:39Speaker 3: moment for Bullan and I'm obviously not like a, oh yeah,
- 45:43Speaker 3: let's like redeem the villain who's been torturing the nameless
- 45:47Speaker 3: and like experimenting on them and like the children of
- 45:52Speaker 3: the Storm and everything not for that. But I think
- 45:55Speaker 3: it was such a big growth moment where he looked
- 45:58Speaker 3: at his virus that he like basically manipulated the blight
- 46:03Speaker 3: off of so like because and we're just full there.
- 46:08Speaker 3: So Marchion had promised a cure, and so he was
- 46:10Speaker 3: after Bulan for a cure, and the Republic was after
- 46:13Speaker 3: Bulan for a cure. So at the end of this,
- 46:16Speaker 3: Bullin is like, ha, here's my cure, and it like
- 46:19Speaker 3: fixes people for a time, but then they get these
- 46:22Speaker 3: blisters and like basically they start disintegrating.
- 46:27Speaker 2: And I again, I love the ignorance of Bulin because
- 46:30Speaker 2: again his idea is freeing the force. He wants to
- 46:34Speaker 2: destroy anybody who manipulates the force. Yep. So in his
- 46:40Speaker 2: testing and all of this other stuff, he is manipulating
- 46:43Speaker 2: this virus to touch those who touched the force. But
- 46:47Speaker 2: when everything goes.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Sideways, realizing a.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Idiot, everybody is touched by the force, and he's like,
- 46:56Speaker 2: oh crap, and then he freaking dies, like.
- 47:00Speaker 3: He doesn't die, He's alive. By the endivis, Oh, that's
- 47:02Speaker 3: that's true, that's true virus.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Yes, so but he's he's touched with the virus that
- 47:06Speaker 2: he's about to Like that was like, that's kind of
- 47:09Speaker 2: like I again, I love how this audio drama works
- 47:14Speaker 2: because it goes in these moments of like, hey, this
- 47:17Speaker 2: is technically all a flashback because it is an interview.
- 47:22Speaker 2: So we go back to real and Laura and they
- 47:25Speaker 2: have conversation a bit and then they're like, oh, so
- 47:28Speaker 2: what happened here? And it's like, oh, well, let's go
- 47:30Speaker 2: back and talk about it. And so it's it's revealed
- 47:33Speaker 2: then that Bulan actually survived. There's side notes.
- 47:38Speaker 3: The interview process is how the novel of FAsMA plays out.
- 47:43Speaker 3: So this is not the first time Star Wars has
- 47:45Speaker 3: done that. That's what I really like about FAsMA too.
- 47:48Speaker 2: But like continue, but I like there's a little bit
- 47:53Speaker 2: of like for me and the way that this story
- 47:56Speaker 2: is told that I kind of have to roll my
- 47:59Speaker 2: eyes little bit of like, oh, the people who were
- 48:03Speaker 2: going to die, let's just throw them in stasis and
- 48:07Speaker 2: it's all fine. I had to roll my eyes a
- 48:10Speaker 2: little bit at this idea, especially.
- 48:13Speaker 3: When you've had the stasis, but then like you're just
- 48:16Speaker 3: letting the blight kind of go with the yukomb child
- 48:21Speaker 3: the sah like Okay, why haven't they already been in stasis?
- 48:27Speaker 2: But we've seen that stasis works before with the chopping
- 48:33Speaker 2: of the hand.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Of Oh gosh, I was trying to think of it.
- 48:40Speaker 2: I was thinking of his name today and I can't
- 48:44Speaker 2: think of it. But yeah, in the prior novels, we've
- 48:47Speaker 2: seen that a stasis field can slow down or completely
- 48:52Speaker 2: stop the growth of the blight. And when it's like, oh, well,
- 48:59Speaker 2: how are these people all going to stuff? Right? Because
- 49:01Speaker 2: there's this like dramatic moment of like.
- 49:05Speaker 6: Eve and Avar and Lorna and Tay and Skier and
- 49:10Speaker 6: Eils are man, they're all kind of together when all
- 49:13Speaker 6: this is happening, and they're like oh what, And then I.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Think it's Keev and Avar that's like, oh no, and
- 49:22Speaker 2: they have been infected.
- 49:25Speaker 3: Only Keev, so he gets the blisters yeah, and she's
- 49:29Speaker 3: like okay, everybody else going to the ward next door
- 49:33Speaker 3: so you don't catch this, and Avar is like, well,
- 49:35Speaker 3: you have to come too, and Keev's like that coming
- 49:40Speaker 3: like shows her hands and is like, you guys, gotta
- 49:44Speaker 3: save us, like it's gotta work. So and then Lorna
- 49:49Speaker 3: comes in and is able to help Keev, and then
- 49:51Speaker 3: she goes into stasis too because they can't risk her
- 49:54Speaker 3: spreading it and everything. But I think like having one
- 49:59Speaker 3: of the Nihills one of the path okay, not necessarily
- 50:03Speaker 3: the Nighthill, because the Night Hill don't want to eliminate
- 50:05Speaker 3: the Force. The night Hill ultimately are just a band
- 50:08Speaker 3: of pirates that don't like the Jedi because their leader
- 50:11Speaker 3: doesn't like the Jedi. So to see one of the
- 50:16Speaker 3: paths of the Open Hand, go, okay, I can eliminate
- 50:19Speaker 3: those who manipulate the force. But then he figures out, okay,
- 50:23Speaker 3: but I can't because everybody is kind of manipulating the
- 50:27Speaker 3: force just by simply being alive. Yeah, So I think
- 50:33Speaker 3: that was a big moment. Let's talk about Kiev, because
- 50:37Speaker 3: I feel like Kiev is like the secondary character here
- 50:41Speaker 3: compared to Warna, and I feel like Kiev ultimately has
- 50:46Speaker 3: the bigger moments here because so we know for a
- 50:50Speaker 3: fact that she leaves the Jedi at the end of
- 50:54Speaker 3: at the end of the Higher Republic.
- 50:56Speaker 2: I okay, yes, let's talk about this because I have
- 50:59Speaker 2: a question for you keep and this.
- 51:01Speaker 3: Should be our final ad break. So y'all, thanks for
- 51:05Speaker 3: bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be right back Eve.
- 51:11Speaker 3: And I found this very interesting. Evar in this instance,
- 51:14Speaker 3: first calls her a failure when they get back with
- 51:18Speaker 3: Baron Bullen and Lorna and the Ataraxia and everything, and
- 51:24Speaker 3: Avar is like, you are the biggest failure of the Jedi.
- 51:26Speaker 3: I cannot believe that you would do such a thing,
- 51:30Speaker 3: talking about Kiev going off to go find Skier in
- 51:33Speaker 3: the occlusion zone without permission, even though created the exact
- 51:38Speaker 3: same thing. And Avar does say Ilzar called me out
- 51:45Speaker 3: on this, pointing out that I basically did the exact
- 51:48Speaker 3: same thing, so I'm sorry, and she does apologize, But
- 51:51Speaker 3: then she calls Kiev the light of the Jedi. And
- 51:58Speaker 3: in the first book, everybody kind of assumes that Avar
- 52:01Speaker 3: is the light of the Jedi, So transitioning this role
- 52:06Speaker 3: to Kiev, especially knowing that she leaves the Jedi, I
- 52:12Speaker 3: don't know how I feel about this.
- 52:14Speaker 2: Not only that what happens literally at the end of
- 52:18Speaker 2: the story, Kiev is granted a new title Marshal. This like,
- 52:30Speaker 2: I'm kind of upset. Okay, why this is the question
- 52:36Speaker 2: that I had to ask? Why do all of this?
- 52:40Speaker 2: And again I feel like it might be because they
- 52:43Speaker 2: want it to be more dramatic. When you finally see
- 52:46Speaker 2: her like drop her lightsaber and legitimately walk away from
- 52:49Speaker 2: the Jedi. I don't know if we'll ever actually see that,
- 52:54Speaker 2: but she is now a Marshal. She is seen as
- 53:00Speaker 2: like the best of them now from probably the one
- 53:08Speaker 2: Jedi that is highest on a pedestal out of all
- 53:12Speaker 2: of the Jedi. Right now, Oh why do this?
- 53:18Speaker 3: She literally no Avar literally walks in and tastes her
- 53:22Speaker 3: because like, is that the hero of Hetzel?
- 53:24Speaker 2: Yes?
- 53:25Speaker 3: But hey even does that? Like? So sorry?
- 53:29Speaker 2: It's like, like, why do all of this for her character?
- 53:34Speaker 2: When we know that it is that she walks away
- 53:40Speaker 2: that she like it almost makes me believe that the
- 53:47Speaker 2: Jedi are not going to which is really stupid of
- 53:52Speaker 2: me to even say this out loud. It makes me
- 53:55Speaker 2: feel like Marcion Rowe is not gonna be held fully
- 54:00Speaker 2: responsible for the things that are happening right now, and
- 54:03Speaker 2: she's going to be so pissed that she's like good guys,
- 54:08Speaker 2: I'm out like, is that possible? Am I too out
- 54:14Speaker 2: there for that assumption?
- 54:18Speaker 3: So here's what I'm thinking for Marquion after this. I'm
- 54:22Speaker 3: thinking mark On is going to go off into the
- 54:25Speaker 3: never ever and he's going to raise little ever any babies.
- 54:34Speaker 3: I don't think he's actually going to be punished because
- 54:37Speaker 3: I don't think the Republic is going to be able
- 54:39Speaker 3: to find him.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Oh no, no no no no no no no no
- 54:44Speaker 2: no no no no.
- 54:48Speaker 3: Ray's going to be facing.
- 54:51Speaker 2: Katie, Katie, k Katie. If this story ends with Marcion
- 54:58Speaker 2: Roe saying you'll never catch me kappas and runs off
- 55:05Speaker 2: into the outer rim, into the unknown space, like I'm
- 55:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna be so pissed.
- 55:12Speaker 3: No, I'm totally joking. Going back to Kevin Scott's newsletter,
- 55:17Speaker 3: he said there is a definitive end for this, and
- 55:19Speaker 3: I think if Marcion wrote gets to escape or doesn't
- 55:24Speaker 3: face the consequences of his actions, I don't think that's
- 55:28Speaker 3: a definitive end. So I was totally joking.
- 55:32Speaker 2: But see, I kind of disagree with you because things
- 55:35Speaker 2: can resolve, Things can get resolved without the villain getting
- 55:42Speaker 2: his comeuppance, Like no, you know, No, I don't know.
- 55:50Speaker 2: I think we'll have to agree to disagree there. But
- 55:54Speaker 2: but in all honesty, the way that this could end,
- 56:02Speaker 2: and I had that thought today is like why give
- 56:05Speaker 2: her such a title and do so much for her character?
- 56:10Speaker 2: Like what does the Jedi have to do as a
- 56:14Speaker 2: group of individuals to get Kiev to be so angry
- 56:20Speaker 2: at them to walk away? And I think it will
- 56:23Speaker 2: be to let Marchion ro go.
- 56:27Speaker 3: I think she walks away for another reason. I think
- 56:32Speaker 3: ultimately Skier may fall back into the syndrome that Baron
- 56:38Speaker 3: Boleen killed cures him of in this, but he may
- 56:42Speaker 3: fall back into that and want to stick around as
- 56:45Speaker 3: a theoretical Jedi, not necessarily like an active force using Jedi.
- 56:51Speaker 3: But Skier still has very useful knowledge that can be
- 56:55Speaker 3: applied and everything, and if the rage can be maintained,
- 57:00Speaker 3: and then he can still teach and everything. And so
- 57:03Speaker 3: I think ultimately it's going to come down to Skiers
- 57:07Speaker 3: exiled for something that's out of his control. With the
- 57:12Speaker 3: I think it's mcgrax syndrome.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Well, now that I even think about it, because of
- 57:17Speaker 2: Bullin's very ignorant decision with the blight, Is it POSSI. Yeah,
- 57:26Speaker 2: could he not have even cured Skar?
- 57:29Speaker 3: I think that it's fully possible because it just like
- 57:39Speaker 3: I don't think because he's even says and I know
- 57:42Speaker 3: he meant like with the blight cure that he did
- 57:46Speaker 3: that he was he said, well, I gave you back
- 57:49Speaker 3: your force powers for a little time, Like, so is
- 57:54Speaker 3: that like in regards to the blight cure or is
- 57:58Speaker 3: that I.
- 57:59Speaker 2: Think it's I think it's I think him saying that
- 58:02Speaker 2: was like, hey, like I gave you back your powers
- 58:06Speaker 2: for this short amount of time. Now this cure is
- 58:09Speaker 2: going to kill you. Like I think that's what he meant.
- 58:12Speaker 2: I don't know that he meant, oh, by the way,
- 58:15Speaker 2: that here like it's still coming to get you like
- 58:18Speaker 2: that that it didn't actually cure anything, like I don't think.
- 58:23Speaker 3: I don't know, I am, but I think it's going
- 58:27Speaker 3: to have something to do with Skier. It could also
- 58:30Speaker 3: have something to do with Avar, like maybe Avar wants
- 58:33Speaker 3: to publicly have her relationship with l Zar because I
- 58:39Speaker 3: could see that fight coming to a head.
- 58:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it because again, a very vocal part
- 58:51Speaker 2: of the Jedi is Vernestra, and we know that Vernestra
- 58:58Speaker 2: is very like Anti l'sar Man. So if anything is
- 59:05Speaker 2: going to ruin that relationship, I think Avar will fight
- 59:09Speaker 2: for it, and I think Kiev could be like, hey,
- 59:18Speaker 2: this is the wrong fight to have. This is stupid.
- 59:22Speaker 2: If y'all are going to fight over this small shit
- 59:24Speaker 2: when we had to deal with all of this like
- 59:28Speaker 2: galaxy ending scenarios that we've had to deal with in
- 59:32Speaker 2: the last few years, then peace out. I can't do
- 59:35Speaker 2: this anymore.
- 59:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I think giving her the title just kind of shows,
- 59:43Speaker 3: like I think it does articulate what the authors are
- 59:47Speaker 3: trying to do with like, Okay, hey, because Keev at
- 59:51Speaker 3: this point is maybe like twenty two. So I think
- 59:55Speaker 3: a lot of the thematics for what the Higher Republic
- 59:58Speaker 3: has been about is like, Okay, the younger people of
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: our generations can't actively change the way things are done
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: and like make an impact. So giving her the title
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: continues that thematically, and having her leave the order is
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: also a part of that theme, because you're stepping away
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: from something that no longer matters in the in the
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: end to you.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: So, yeah, it's my opinion, No, I I agree with that.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: I can totally agree with that for sure.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: So going back to Lorna. This does I feel like
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: complete Lorna's story because Lorna has kind of made her
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: transition and she kind of knows what truly matters to her.
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: At the end of this, like having Quinn by her side.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: I love At the end, real is like, so this
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: is the Lorna d right, and Laura's like, she's named
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: after her captain and the captain is Quinn. And Quinn
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: comes in and is like, no.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: No, when it's such a dumb this is such a
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: dumb name for a ship, Like, no, it's not gonna happen,
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: But I love again. We talked about this during Tempest Runner,
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: the fact that names means so much to Lorna. It
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: really shows who she is as a character. Yep. And
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: you know, there is this big conversation piece at the
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: ball with her and mark On and we even questioned this,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: like we talked about this when the art piece. When
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: the concept art came out of Lorna and mark On
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: dancing at the ball, We're like, oh, like, how is
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: this going to be? Is it gonna be very violent?
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: Are they gonna be flirtatious? And they were both they
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: were both kind of like leaning into it, but also
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: like secretly like, hey, you know I hate your guts
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: kill me now, well you could kill me now, why
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: don't you do it? You don't get like it was
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: such a good moment, and I do agree with you
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: on this moment, Like I think that having this visually
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: would have been amazing. I think it would have been
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: great to have this. But you know, Lorna tells mark
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: On like, oh, like you you made a wish and
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: it came true, and now what do you got? You
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: got nothing. You are sitting on top of the galaxy
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: and now you're bored. You got nothing else to do.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: And you know you got nothing on me now because
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: you are just Marcian Roe, the eye of the storm,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: and that's all you'll ever be. And I love that
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: because names mean so much to her, titles mean so
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: much to her, and giving that to mark On like it,
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: like even though she says near the end like oh, like,
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: I still fear you a little bit, like I highly
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: doubt that now, yep, because of everything she's been through
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: being able to confront Marchianro the way that she did
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: at the ball, Like I think that, she, like you said,
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: has fully like I think, of course, everybody has the
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: chance to develop as a character, but for this story,
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: I think it's gone full circle. I think her story
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: is mostly done. I could see her being added into
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: small little pieces here and there, but like, this is it,
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: and I really did love this story for her.
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I Cavin tells such a very succinct story, and
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: I know he's told it over the comics too, but
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: I feel like Tempest Runner Tempest Breaker is a very
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: complete story that it is phenomenal, to say the least.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: So yeah, I think that's the big points. Yeah, Lorna,
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: Tay and Skier and the Bond Twins and kill Naka
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: all return in February when the Marvel High Republic Comics
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: starts up.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I am going to enjoy reading that I have.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: I will say this, I have been able to kind
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: of manipulate my day to day stuff and I'm able
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: to actually read comics sometimes during the week. I am
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: going to try after, especially after Timm's Breaker, I'm going
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: to try to catch up on the main story and
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: try to read it week to week. I don't know
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: if I necessarily will be able to, but I've enjoyed
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: this enough to be like, hey, yeah, I'm back on
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: board with the comics, and not that I haven't been,
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: but just because we had talked about like it's so
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: much easier just to grab the trade, read it all
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: at once and everything else. This has given me the
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: you know, be like, hey, maybe I can, you know,
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: read it from week to week if I have the
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: opportunity to. But yeah, it's a lot of fun. I
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: really love the intensity of it. I love the implications
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: of it because even the final showdown between Lorna and
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Marcian Row, they are literally going at it freaking blades
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: to lightsaber, fist to fist, and he gets stuck under
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: like a whole bunch of like sheet metal and stuff,
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: and he is actually like, don't kill me, Like I
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: like I need to tell you what Bullin's plan is
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: and all this stuff, and Real even says like at
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: the end of the story, she's like, so you can't
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: really say anything about this, you know, you can't say
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: he is dead or anything else. And she's like, hey,
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: like his ship going into the atmosphere, like into orbit,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: like that's all in the records. She's like, yeah, but
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: it like almost immediately left after that. So like it
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: has this implication of like how slimy and slythery Marcianroe
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: still is, but like we've seen it more than ever
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: now because even even Laura said it in this in
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: this story, like he can bleed, which means he can die,
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: Like he is just another person, just and he even.
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: Tries to take out the full planet to prove to
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: people like to like he's like take out everybody who
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: saw it. Nobody can know that I bleed, Like.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was the thing, like the fact that
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: she bit him and made him bleed. I was like,
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: this is amazing. But it was pretty intense where he's
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: just like kill everybody, kill everybody, and like Laurna is like, yeah,
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: this is what happens. He's a psychopath. But like even
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Avar was like Lorna, like why would you do that?
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: Like the implications of this literally killed thousands, Like why
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: did you do that? She's like, well, I just add
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: to would you rather be die? Like come on? But yeah,
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: I really love this story. Again. I think I will
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: be very sad if there is a indefinite hiatus of
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: the High Republic when all is said and done. But
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: I really do hope that you know, the sale of
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: the script book in May does really well and they're like, hey,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: we should continue like it. I hope that it's just
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: one more thing that reaffirms the publishing initiative to be like, hey,
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: maybe we should keep going with this.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll see for sure, but everybody hope you have
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: a great Thanksgiving. Yes Americans at least.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: Yeah, my boss said it today. What was the quote
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: that he said. I'd never heard anybody say it like this,
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: and I thought it was absolutely hilarious. He said, happy
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: Thanksgiving to all and to all a full belly, and
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: I was like, that is that is great words? Ye
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: wise words for Thanksgiving. But yeah, happy Thanksgiving for everybody
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: who celebrates American Thanksgiving. And we will see you guys
