- 0:09SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Yanis Cove, a formerly pretentious film school student.
- 0:13SPEAKER_03: Ten years later sees the error of his ways.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: My guest today is improviser, writer, and the illustrator of this podcast's artwork, Bruce Tang.
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: Hey.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: I know I I don't know how to introduce myself.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: I've already introed you.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, but like I I I want to speak about myself, really, but you know, um, but that's fine, whatever.
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: So how how are you doing today?
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Good.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: We me and you, yeah and a few of our comediation friends uh had a fundraiser yesterday, which is great.
- 0:50SPEAKER_02: It's a very fun show.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: I was very nervous before it.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: I don't know how obvious that was.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: I think we were all pretty nervous about it.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: It felt bigger.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: It felt like a lot of pressure.
- 1:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: But that's fine, because I had fun and then I had a drink, and then it was fine.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: You had a drink before the show, which I had half.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: Look, okay.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: I don't want people thinking I drink before workslash shows because I don't.
- 1:17SPEAKER_02: I had a sip of half a can of Estrella.
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which is fine.
- 1:22unknown: Yeah.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it's fine.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: Get off my fucking back, yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: I can't drink before shows.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: I just I cannot do it.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: I know it just makes it just messes me up completely.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: And I just even even one drink is just too much to have any like I can't think straight when I'm done.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: I need a completely clear head.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: I did one time um it was during like the hoopla marathon um and I was on stage after having a couple drinks.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: And I like a never I don't do that, yeah.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: Uh but but it was like a weird time of it.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: And then um I was telling a story which got a a pity like oh and state I went, Fuck you, you don't get to pity me, but and that's why I don't drink on steam anymore.
- 2:16SPEAKER_04: Um yeah.
- 2:21SPEAKER_03: So the the movie you picked is uh Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: The the middle of the trilogy Bridget Jones trilogy Yeah Yeah it's it's I I think I think look I think we should say that when we were discussing this, yeah, it was a choice between two movies.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Um I can't remember what else you said.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: I said wait, I don't know if it's spoilers for anyone else who's chosen.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: Do you care?
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: I'll believe it, I'll just cut it out if it's not.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: You should cut it out.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: Okay, it was um Rocky IV.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Rocky IV or Bridget Jones 2.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, it's not a spoiler then.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, so someone else has done it.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, it's not I mean no one's done it, so it's not a spoiler.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay, okay, okay.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: It's not coming up.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: Fine, fine.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: Um, so I just wanna I just wanted to make it clear that like if you if you wanna know me, it's Rocky IV and Bridget Jones 2, colon, the edge of reason.
- 3:23SPEAKER_03: Emphasis on the colon.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: There are many.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: That sums this up.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, sure.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: Well, well yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: It really does.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: I think it was a really great work from that writing team.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: No, actually, I do want to know, because I know how I feel about it, but I I kinda wanna hear you say what you want.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Okay, so I'll start I'll start by saying like this movie has 27% on Rotten Sapatos.
- 3:51SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: And that that's about where I'd place it.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Did you did you enjoy it?
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: I did not enjoy it at all.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: You didn't enjoy it?
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: Not at all.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: Not at all.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: And I I really like the first one.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: And I haven't seen the third one.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: Um, but it's just, it's bad.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: And we'll get into it as we go along for the reasons I think it's bad, but I for I want to know what your history with it is.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: Uh just just for record, I thought it was jokes.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: I had a great time.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: I was well, okay, so I've got four older sisters, right?
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: Um, and uh with my mum, we lived in this tiny council state, and and it's a lot of basically a lot of female energy in a small space, yeah.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: So um there were always rom-coms on TV.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: And I gotta say I'm a sucker for any movie where two white people fall in love.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: To any movie.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: Well, but there's gotta be like, you know, uh rom-coms rom-coms are great.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: I don't get why people shit on that.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: I love rom-coms, I just don't think this one is a good one.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: Well, what you you're saying that the the chemistry, the the hot chemistry between Colin Firth and Renee Zelogan didn't do it for you.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: It's not there in this one.
- 5:17SPEAKER_02: Was it I can't remember the first one though.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: Was there like is there what between them?
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: Was it hot?
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Was it sex?
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: It wasn't hot, but it was just like it was there at least.
- 5:29SPEAKER_03: I felt like he was so uptight in this one.
- 5:32SPEAKER_04: Like, even if he's uptight in the first one, but I was so much to say about his uptightness.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: It just like what works in the first one with like with their uh differing characters, it doesn't play up well here.
- 5:47SPEAKER_02: No, I oh gosh, I look I've I haven't even shown you this yet.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: These are all my notes.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: Uh you wrote them on post-it notes.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I've I because I thought like it was just gonna be some like I wasn't gonna have much to say.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: I was a bit worried about that.
- 6:03SPEAKER_02: But like okay, on top of it being a rom-com, it's a film set in the UK during the mid-nouties, and that's a yes, fucking wild time.
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: It's crazy.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: This is something about like the first one as well.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, it's just like it's not live anymore.
- 6:21SPEAKER_03: Like, this life does not exist.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, where she works does not exist, and that would not happen.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: She wouldn't live there.
- 6:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: Can we talk about how seemingly every second of her working life she is harassed by one colleague or another?
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: I know that's that's one of the issues I have with this.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: Oh god, I I totally forgot about that.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: Um and I was it was like, wow, this is uh I think I think this film is um uh an art house masterpiece, to be honest, because it's um look it's a critical.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: It's a crit it's a cool, cool darling.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Um it's not a critical darling, it has 27%.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: It's a critical darling of dear dear uh working title productions and Renee Zelogan got together to pop this this passion project through.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: And like and like what better film shows you the state of Britain in 2004?
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 2004.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: Do you know this has four writers?
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, there were like four vignettes, so I I can't believe that.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: This has four writers, one of them is Richard Curtis, who I have issues with Richard Curtis as well.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Oh shit, okay.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: I I think I've watched a couple of songs, but I I can't remember.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: See, I I like I don't know.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: He's both great at what he does and awful.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: Because he lives in this privileged white world that doesn't reflect the rest of us.
- 8:11SPEAKER_02: Not like not like in Bridgetron's 2 Edder Reason, which but which has what?
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Like oh actually no, no, this is spoilers.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: We can't talk about it.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: We can talk about No, because I wanna I wanna get to that sweet chronological point in the in the third act.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm really feeling Bridge Jones struggles, I'm I'm empathizing with this.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: That is my least favourite part of the movie.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: Oh god, it's it's it makes me angry.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: It is wild.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: It made me angry.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: It's wild.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: It was I don't think at any point in this movie, by the way, I don't think any point in this movie was hot.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: None of it turned me on in any particular way.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Like that's what I'm saying.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: They were going for like, yeah, let's get everyone shaggin.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: Everyone's gonna go for a fantastic shag.
- 9:02SPEAKER_02: I know they used the word shag like I've never heard so many people use the word shaggin's quick constitution.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: And and I yeah, everyone's like, oh yeah, you you're having a fantastic shag every night.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Um, or did you take you home for a nice shag?
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: Or shag in a cigarette.
- 9:25SPEAKER_03: Oh, there's so much smoking in this as well.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, there's a bit early on where they're in a pub or a club.
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're smoking in the top.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: And they're smoking their tools! And that was I don't place and they're just like, what are they doing?
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: She's with her friends who have no discernible personalities, except for one of them.
- 9:44SPEAKER_03: One of them, but only because she goes with it.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:46SPEAKER_03: Well, two of them have personalities, but they like they're very stereotypical personalities.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: What are you talking about her kooky white girlfriend and the gay character?
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: I am, those are the two that I'm talking about.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: Talking about the hippie girlfriend and the gay character.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, is she supposed to be a hippie?
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: Oh no, no, the one who goes to on the okay, no, no, no, no.
- 10:07SPEAKER_02: I I wanna no, okay, we've we've jumped right to we're jumping all over things.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: I wanna I wanna I wanna go You wanna go chronologically.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: This is a two-part ep Yannis, this is a two-part episode.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: No, it's not.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: This is it's so little.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: I'm so happy that you invited me on your like season finale when you're like closing out everybody lost critic to on a free episode arc about Bitchetron's two.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: It's three ten-minute episodes.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: It's a little bonus episode I'm about to throw it on to the Patreon that I'm eventually starting.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Am I already your worst guest?
- 10:45SPEAKER_03: Oh what I mean is there's like no worst guest.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: I don't mean that you are the worst guest.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: There's no worst guest.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: I have loved everyone over here.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: Okay, right, we'll see about that.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: Stop giving me things to edit out.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: Oh no, you're not editing this out.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: We're gonna I wanna I wanna run through.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: By the way, I dropped my notepads.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: I dropped my post notes that all the notes are in different orders.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: Perfect.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: So you wanna go chronologically, but all your notes are in different order.
- 11:17unknown: Yeah.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I wanna look.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: Okay, pick a note then.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: Well actually, first of all, because Let's go.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: Let me let me explain the plot then.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: Let's go over the plot.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: So I also I also want to know what happened in the first film, because I I I don't remember.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: So the first film is just her it's essentially like um it's kind of similar, but so it takes all the like everything that you I think you love about this, they is is the stuff they use from the first film.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: So it's her, she she's like I can't remember if she's on the on the edge of 30 or like just turned 30 or something like that, which is already a thing because it's like I'm 31 and I don't like that.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: So really really what you didn't like about this film was how much parents uh I'm talking about this first one, I'm still talking about the first one.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay, sorry.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: No, so uh she gets a new job, which is that place that she's working now in the second one, but um she meets uh Hugh Grant.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: No, sorry, she gets she meets Hugh Grant at the first at this first job that she's working at, and it's really sleazy.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: And they start a relationship and everything, and all this stuff goes on, and then she also meets Colin Fur.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: She remembers Colin Fur from childhood.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: Um and then stuff goes on there with them.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: I did love Yeah, yeah.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: I do I do like the opening callback to Oh, I was gonna say, I I love any British movie that starts or is centred around Christmas.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, that is a big I I completely amoor with that as well.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: Because the minute it opens up on like uh like a c a c a house on a stage, basically and it's always snow, but it never snows at Christmas.
- 13:13SPEAKER_03: I know, this is what Americans think Britain is like, and Richard Curtis.
- 13:18SPEAKER_03: Richard Curtis Richard Curtis, I'm telling you, he lives in his own world.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but like I'm into it though.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: How many Richard Curtis movies are gonna open at Christmas?
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: Wait, hold on to Love actually.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: Oh shit! Oh god, that's it.
- 13:37SPEAKER_03: So that's three movies that he's done.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: He's like Gary Marshall.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: And I feel like, doesn't um what's the other one?
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: Uh what's that time travel one that he has?
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: I feel like that's got a Christmas setting at some point.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: He did a time travel one.
- 13:56SPEAKER_03: He did the one with the he did that British time travel one where he goes, is it in I think not in time in time?
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: I thought that was the one with Justin Timberlake and he's all the time.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's about about time.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: About time.
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: Sexy button.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: Not that one, about time.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: Well, he did the good.
- 14:13SPEAKER_03: Does that open on Christmas?
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: It doesn't open I feel like there's a Christmas scene in it.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: But that's that's good anyway.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: That's a good movie.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: Back to the bad one.
- 14:23SPEAKER_02: Back well, okay, alright.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: I will okay, I'll admit it.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: The first time I looked at my watch was ten minutes in.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: But I was doing I was What was happening?
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: Um I think I think it's um I was trying to find out if they passed a backdrop test.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: Oh, interesting.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: Um and I'm not gonna tell you when until we get to that point.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: I Oh, I'm trying to think where it is, and I cannot place a time where it would be.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: My so my understanding of it is that there's two female characters who have a meaningful conversation with each other, but it's not about men.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: That's not about men, yeah.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: So I can't think of a time where that happens.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: And I'm not including any instances where people exchange one line to each other.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that doesn't count.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: Because that happens when she turns up to work for late and and the the the lady receptionist is like, late again.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: That doesn't count.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Off shagging with your new boyfriend.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: See, that's about men again, so it doesn't count.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah!
- 15:39SPEAKER_03: Shit, okay.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: It wouldn't count even if even at one line it doesn't count.
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: Right, no, right, okay, no, no, no.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: You were you okay.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: We haven't we haven't even got to start the movie yet.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: We haven't Okay, so the plot of the movie is it's it's essentially a re a retell not a retelling, but it's just like an extension of the first one.
- 16:02SPEAKER_03: So like um all that's happening is she's in her she's like 32 or something like that, I don't know, something young still.
- 16:13SPEAKER_03: And sure, okay, you baby.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: I don't know who bringing her up that time, that was you.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: I was just okay, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on You are a child still.
- 16:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, daddy, yes daddy.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: That's getting cut.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: No, I I'm making it a point to address uh male friends as daddy just to make them comfortable.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Go on, yes, daddy, slay.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: Okay, so Bridget uh is on the edge of like 30s, early 30s, and she started she's fully in a relationship with Mark Darcy at this point.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: And she's so but it's like six weeks into it or something, they say, don't they?
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: That's wild.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: I have I've scrawled down the words like you've been dating for six weeks.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: She is so intense, she's so intense with him at six weeks, but like she's c yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: But but at the same time, he's so distant.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: So distant.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: He's I think he's the one who phones it in the most.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Um is phoning it in the most.
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: It feels like he doesn't want to be in this.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: No.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: I don't know why he is as well.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure because I know why he is.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: Well, one was a massive success, wasn't it?
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: That was huge.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: It and yeah, it was in the just like Game of Thrones, it was massive in the popular culture.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: Huge, huge disappeared almost immediately.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: Because even though the third one came by the time the third one came around, like nobody really cared that much, did they?
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: I feel like did she have a baby or something?
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's bridge it's called Bridget Jones's baby.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: That feels more like a sequel to Rosemary's Baby than anything.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: You call your movie blank baby.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: Oh I mean all I can think of is like spoilers, demons birthing and stuff.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: Spoil spoilers.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: But I feel like demonicness is more um uh passive aggressive in Bridget Jones 2.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: The there's some.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they could they hold back on it.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: There's some you can tell, look, you can tell this is a Tory movie through and through.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: You can tell there were the Oh, it's a hundred percent a Tory movie.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: It's such a Tory film.
- 18:39SPEAKER_02: And I fucking I friggin', I freaking love that um they they position Bridget Jones, Rennie Zeliger doing a bridge action, as like the the spokesperson for for the working ass working class government.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: She's so posh all our Adam and Abe, Adam Abe.
- 19:00SPEAKER_03: But she's so posh.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: I know, there's this is like and she lives in like this.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: She lives in the center, she lives in central London.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: She lives in London, she lives by London Bridge.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: It's ridiculous.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's in London.
- 19:13SPEAKER_03: That's right on the back of London Bridge, it's ridiculous.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: Do you know that would do you know what that would cost?
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: No, but this is too late.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: This is 2004.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: This is pre-house crash, pre-Fleinstein.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: Back then it was okay to be a dick to women in um the workplace.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: That's not for us to talk about the people.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: I I I've got uh I every time I say anything like that, I'm I'm constantly worried that my sarcasm doesn't come through strong enough.
- 19:43SPEAKER_03: I'm not gonna say it outright.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: Everything I say here, I yeah.
- 19:48SPEAKER_03: Bruce is a very sarcastic person, just know that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: I'm so fluent and sarcasm.
- 19:55SPEAKER_03: So fluent.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: So yeah, this is just like a and then it just goes through the motions of like retelling like the so everything that happens at the beginning of the first one happens again now, but it's like an updated version.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: So she go it's the Christmas scene again, and she's and she goes to her mum's place, but uh for the turkey curry and everything, but she's actually with Mark this time, so when she looks up and sees the jump, so when she sees his jumper, they cut back and she's wearing the jumper this time as well.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: Which so in the first one she hates the jumper, but now she's gonna be a big job.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: But I did like that she's on board with it.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: I did enjoy that scene.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: I did enjoy that.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: It's so forced, and I hate when movies do that.
- 20:43SPEAKER_03: I hate when sequels do that.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: But okay, but like I was I already said that I like Christmas scenes and films, and and I think it's just a nice nod, and then they and then they they rip off um uh the movie with the lady running in a film.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: Sound of music.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: Some music, they they pay homage to it.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: Um she also sings it, doesn't she?
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I did cringe a bit when they started kissing because I was like, this doesn't but oh oh, but then it's it cuts to like her job, right?
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: And then she's she's ostensibly a journalist.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: I wrote down early I wrote down early 2000s media jobs.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: But like what is that, John?
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: I can you I don't know.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: I be like some like sexualized journalist.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: I've never watched a broadcast by a British news company on our tax money funding journalists to jump out of planes into bits of.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: It looks like I think what my understanding of it is it's like a a local.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: TV station.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: I mean they live in London.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: But it's some it's some like low budget, and I'm using quotes, but it's it's something like it's like low budget, but you know, like now it would be a high budget take place.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: That that whole bit screen is a good thing.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: I guess it's the equivalent Yeah, that whole bit screen to me we're we're back, we're better than ever.
- 22:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Jones's back, and she's better than ever.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: It it just makes me angry how much they they just use her in the whole movie just to take the piss out of her and it just feels wrong.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: It feels wrong.
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: Like even with that, it just and then I also wrote down it's like her first time skydiving, and she's gone out with a giant camera on her own.
- 22:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she's on her own.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, and then and then there's like they they she she doesn't want to do it, and they're like, Britt, you have to do this, this is your job.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: She's like, her job is online, she jumps out, she's responsible for her own parachute, and then they'll like ripping into her for not pulling it.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then and then when she does pull it, she's like, honestly, honestly, you forget one thing about your job, and it's like they your employees have chugged you out of a plane without putting you responsible of your own parachute, you blame yourself.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: There's the noise, man.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: The noise are wild, and then she lands she lands in a pig farm.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: And yeah, just to further further humiliate herself.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: They let they land in a pig farm.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, but the then and then they love it, don't they?
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: They love the so she gets very embarrassing.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: Oh, they love it.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's like, oh look at this woman landing the pig farm.
- 23:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, it's filthy.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, look at her, and we're pigs, and oh pigs are pretty sexy too.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: It's just it's just everything is about humiliating her in this, and it just it's just ridiculous.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: I did really like um how they kind of set up like that her narrative.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: Because they say something like she's always she's always like, I'm I'm a complete woman, I've got a man, I have a job.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, those two things complete me.
- 24:22SPEAKER_03: Um but then so I was like she also wants marriage.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, there's finally complete to get that complete.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: Marriage will complete her.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Without marriage, she is nothing.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: That's that's what they imply.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and like I was like, oh okay, so so her whole thing is gonna be like, oh, that's not true, she's gonna be hooked and then blah blah.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: But like No, really, not learn that lesson.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: No, no one learns that lesson.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, so we meet we meet Dan, we see Daniel Cleaver for the first time, and he's like on that TV show, he's doing like some smooth talking guide, and it's it's so disgusting.
- 25:08SPEAKER_03: He's like a travel guide.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: For some reason he's a he's now a travel guide on TV and it makes no sense to his personality.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: What was his job before?
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: I don't remember, but it doesn't fit his personality.
- 25:21SPEAKER_03: Uh it's he he he worked at the s he worked at the place that she worked at originally, but I feel like I I feel like he was like a newspaper editor or something.
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: Back then they can have whatever job they wanted, couldn't they?
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: So it doesn't matter.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: That's fine.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: What do you mean back then?
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: Because the point is, Hugh Grant, whatever job he's doing, that's done because he's done.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: He's now a tall guy, he's now a a travel guide on TV.
- 25:53SPEAKER_03: He's back in the reason.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: He's back, they're on the edge of reason.
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: They brought you to the edge of reason.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: You you think you're you're edging reason.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: This sequel is all about edging, in my mind.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 26:11SPEAKER_03: So Mark is working late.
- 26:18unknown: Yeah.
- 26:19SPEAKER_03: Which brings up a whole issue of her trust her whole trust issue with him.
- 26:23SPEAKER_03: Again, they've been dating six weeks.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it was like a real quick turn of like one thing and I don't know, like her friends give her the worst advice as well.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: But purely to set up her doubt.
- 26:39SPEAKER_03: That's all it is.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: It's just like a way of setting up her doubt.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: So it's like, oh, well, this came from her friends, so it's not all entirely on her.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: I think that's what it is.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: So but but it's even like they they could they they're not they're not portrayed reasonably at all.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: They're they're bitty like, you've been dating six months, he hasn't in six weeks.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, six weeks, he hasn't proposed to you, dumping.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: And and the whole like dignity thing I did not Oh yeah, I didn't like the dignity thing.
- 27:09SPEAKER_02: What I did like was the jellyfish bit.
- 27:13SPEAKER_03: What happened to the jellyfish?
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: She s there's this lady who who they call the jellyfish dance.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: Oh yes, the jellyfish woman, yes.
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: Hold hold on, wait a minute.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: Have we dropped the scene?
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Wait, so so then Oh no, you're right, you're right, you're right.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then and then she that she's like someone who who's real passag and and it's like, listen, uh uh, you're with a boyfriend, but fuck you.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: Uh you got a job, fuck you.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, everything's just a everything is just a geek.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: But it never comes up, it never comes up again.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: It's just like that's the only scene, and I'm just like, oh, she was quite an interesting character actually.
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: I completely forgot about that.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: But I she also these are all like my notes.
- 27:58SPEAKER_02: I'm staring at them trying to make something my handwriting.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: Um she she she to bounce back the the stings, she's Bridget says something like um Mark's working late again tonight because um he's saving all Mexican prisoners.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: And it's like what the fuck does that mean?
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: What does that mean?
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Is she stupid?
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: She's a dumbist, I think.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: They try and portray her as very dumb.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: Tory film.
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: But she like gets so basically that jellyfish woman gets in her head, so she goes to spy on Mark um just to see what's going on, and she like climbs onto the roof.
- 28:46SPEAKER_03: It's so it's oh why are you doing it's so over the top, like and it doesn't fit with no like the first one is fun and she wouldn't do that in the first one.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: I can't remember but it wouldn't be that uh slapstick in the first one.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: Slapstick is the right word?
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's set to Jim, she's doing all of the like insane snooping around to a cover of Sam Brown Stop.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think I wrote somewhere like I wrote somewhere great soundtrack, then I crossed it out, and I wrote, then I wrote, these are all great songs, but they're bad covers.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: They are, they really are and it's all it's all people of the time as well.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: It's like just like who's number one around now?
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: Let's let them do a cover on it.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: But that's what I'm saying.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: It's like it's like uh so of the time, it really is into 2004.
- 29:48SPEAKER_03: It really is.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Like but but I think that like that's around the crossover point of when it started getting weird.
- 29:56SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: Wait, wait, wait, in the film or in life?
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: No, no, in life.
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: So like early 2000s to around then, yeah.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: It was like you can kind of understand it.
- 30:06SPEAKER_03: Then it starts like anything beyond that, it starts to get weird if they had to do that sort of style.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: So I think it's the turning point of when it started getting like, okay, this is too much.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: I don't know, I don't know if I've been with that, because but it was a it was a post-9-11 world.
- 30:22SPEAKER_02: It was but don't really see what that has to do with it, but I I kind of feel like everything pre that has a different like aesthetic or feeling.
- 30:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: But that's that's my point.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: That's my point.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: I think like there's a different thing.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: She she's saying like I am insecure about my man.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm secret into security, I need it.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Where when where else have we felt a need for more security than PS9-11?
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: So I'll take that silent as as agreement, yeah.
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: Um so she's spying on Mark, she climbs to the roof, and he's having a group meeting.
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: She thinks he's cheating on her.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: He's having a group meeting.
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: And then he got like she falls down, ring library.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: That could be the that could be the entire plot of this movie.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: She falls down so much, so much.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: That's what I mean.
- 31:39SPEAKER_03: This movie is so much more slapstick than the first one.
- 31:43SPEAKER_04: See, the man that I'm like thinking about her falling down, and it's it's god, this movie's great.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: I don't even know.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: We're so early into movies twice already.
- 31:59SPEAKER_04: That's what's that like 15 minutes?
- 32:03SPEAKER_04: Something like that.
- 32:07SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: So instead of instead of like getting angry at her for watching nice, he invites her to dinner.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is a wild because he's like, what does he say?
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: He says um He looks angry the whole time as well.
- 32:22SPEAKER_03: Like he just looks pissed off with her the entire movie.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's like, I'm disappointed in you.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: Um no, I'm not disappointed in you.
- 32:28SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm frankly I'm disappointed that I can't take you to bed or something.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: It's like this woman has aligned onto your roof because she does not trust you.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: If I'm not too root, she's covered in mud again.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: It has been six weeks.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: I I get that they supposedly know each other from childhood, but it has been six hueks.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: Okay, no, here's the thing though, they know each other from childhood, but they didn't see each other again for like th 25 years.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: Oh my god! Oh my god, I didn't know that.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: Okay, that's wow.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: They really don't And also I'm pretty sure he was he was like seven or eight years older than her at childhood.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: I think that was the whole thing.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: I think he was like bordering on a teenager.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: Oh man.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: Which does make it really weird thinking about that now.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: Because you're because you you identify with Bridget Jones and you're looking for an older person to look after you, for example.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: I I now identify with Mark and then.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: I'm old enough to be Mark.
- 33:38SPEAKER_04: Because he's really boring.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: He's really I don't get I I I because I watched one ages ago.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: I at the time they they seem like they have something in common.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: In this, I have no idea why they're together.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: But that's what I mean.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: That's it's no, there's nothing connecting them in this one.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: And yeah, and I think that the only reason they do that is for later down the line.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Um yeah.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: I think like, but let's like jump through this.
- 34:09SPEAKER_02: No, I wanna dissect this man.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, so they go she she uh they have sex and then she wraps herself in sheets to like walk away.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: Oh I wrote down um a line from that scene which is Colin Fur saying, um, I tend to fancy all your wobbly bits.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Um what do what's that mean?
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: She's not even fucking overweight.
- 34:37SPEAKER_03: Not even overweight.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: That's that my beef with that is um actually not my beef.
- 34:44SPEAKER_02: It's more like I they would just try to chuck in as many Britishisms.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that's Richard Curtis through and through.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: They're like, oh love watching your your um uh your apples and watching you run up the apples and pears.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Oh you're a bit cheeky, aren't you?
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, a bit cheeky, you're going for a cheeky shag, and uh oh you're looking shagtastic.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: Shagtastic, isn't it?
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: Do you know Austin Powers is in this?
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: Shagtastic, baby, yeah.
- 35:20SPEAKER_03: Um the next thing I wrote that wrote down is Shag Therapy.
- 35:25SPEAKER_03: Shag therapy Oh is that like oh he entered out of shag therapy um Oh yeah, because that oh that that that was it so she meets Daniel in the VT room and he's like sneaking up on her and then and then they run into Jeremy Paxman as well.
- 35:43SPEAKER_04: Jeremy Paxman cutting himself I was like Jeremy Paxman and cameo with this.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: I don't know who is that appealing to who's watching Billy Jones and they're like, oh Paxman, that's what we need.
- 36:03SPEAKER_02: I will I will give it to him.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: He delivers that line with shagtastic energy.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: That's where Daniel has been in shag therapy.
- 36:11SPEAKER_03: Oh that's what that's about.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: Shag therapy.
- 36:15SPEAKER_03: Who the fuck calls it shag therapy?
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, look, you gonna get those like shaggressive attitude all of your life.
- 36:26SPEAKER_02: Oh we haven't even got to like the inciting instant of this film.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Well, if if we can even call it the inciting instant.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: But they they um so he wants to take her to dinner, uh she doesn't want to go, she has a boyfriend now, very much in uh I guess she's in love with him, but she hasn't said it or anything.
- 36:50SPEAKER_03: Um then they start playing Kylie music, of course.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: When?
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: They play Kylie right after that.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: And that's because I wrote down that's when I started writing down about the music.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: Was that when they're doing the like classic montage of outfits?
- 37:03SPEAKER_03: It's gotta be a montage at that point.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: I love uh changing clothes montage.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: I think those are always solid and always fun.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: Always of like white women and gay dudes giving thumbs up and shaking their heads and going.
- 37:20SPEAKER_03: That's no, you're thinking of later on in the movie.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: Is that later on?
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: No, right.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: Are there multi no no no there are multiple training montages?
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, and it's always like, oh that's that's uh at least four shags, that's four shags address.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: Um and and they they settle on like that gold.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yes.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: Which is really gross.
- 37:41SPEAKER_03: I wrote yeah, I wrote down something like they act like she's obese as well.
- 37:45SPEAKER_03: Because like the way they treat her is just like it's this movie hates women.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: This movie really hates women.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: Like it's most of the main characters, most of the people who have lots of speaking lines are women, but they all are portrayed as like stupid.
- 38:03SPEAKER_03: They're all portrayed as stupid, bitchy to each other, yeah, men, like men hungry.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: It's just like their whole lives are based around like the the purpose of getting a man.
- 38:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: That's what it feels like.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: And it is mad considering how little well actually I think it's maybe more fitting, because it's like n a lot of them, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, yeah, have like ministry roles in this film.
- 38:29SPEAKER_02: But they're put on this pedestal and and like idealized.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: Um uh which says a lot about yeah how how great men are, really.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: They don't have to do anything.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: We're still idealised.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: We we don't have to do shit.
- 38:49SPEAKER_02: I mean we we just just act boring.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: We we just need to wait for them shags to come to us.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm gonna sort of the inciting incident.
- 39:05SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 39:07SPEAKER_03: Um they go to the they go to the dinner uh with the all the lawyers and everything, which is what she wanted to get invited to in the first place.
- 39:16SPEAKER_03: Um and she embarrasses herself and Mark in front of everyone.
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: She's wearing like too much pink makeup, and it's like covering she says that people should give to charity.
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: So embarrassing.
- 39:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so embarrassing.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: And also he's a human rights lawyer, so just bear bear that in mind.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: That is really weird.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: I thought that was such a like a massive plot hole for me.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: My most the most gre egregious or plot holes is that they're at this dinner, he's talking to his friends, he calls them his friends, yeah.
- 39:50SPEAKER_03: But two of them are like, fuck Terry, fuck poor people.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and they are if he's a human rights lawyer and they're his friends at work, they must be human rights lawyers.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: What is going on here?
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: And he also seems to agree with them.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: He doesn't dis he doesn't say anything.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: No, he doesn't.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: He's angry at Bridget for saying that.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: She has look I was I was I I stand behind her when our hero, because she's like calling them out on their bullshit.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: But but the film, Richard Curtis and us, apparently, are meant to be like, what an embarrassment.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: I was just like, what is wrong with what she hasn't said anything wrong?
- 40:37SPEAKER_03: And also like when So they do the they have a quiz, and it's all these like lawyer questions and everything.
- 40:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: And then the final final round of the quiz is general knowledge, and she gets all of them right, and she like really really like he gets like really proud of her, and then suddenly she gets the last one wrong, and it's like the worst thing in the world that she gets a Madonna question about Madonna wrong.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: Madonna, can you believe it?
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: And they treat it like she's done the worst thing ever.
- 41:06SPEAKER_03: She's like nobody else in the fucking room knew it.
- 41:08SPEAKER_02: She's outstanding for the British woman, and Madonna is ostensibly the icon, the Jesus Christ of uh Hello Magazine.
- 41:24SPEAKER_03: I don't even know what you're saying.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Someone will! Nobody knows what I'm saying, no one ever knows what I'm saying.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: She gets into an argument with Mark about everything, and then um She's actually she runs home.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he comes.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: Along South Bank.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, along South Bank, literally.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: Along South Bank to back the London Bridge.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: Forgetting that we're in London, and it's like because so far what we've seen of London are posh flats and posh um dinners, right?
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: Literally places that nobody can afford.
- 42:09SPEAKER_02: We go to fancy core dinners and run along south and declare marriage.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm gonna say I'm gonna state this for anyone that's that doesn't know London that well.
- 42:19SPEAKER_03: This where she lives would cost so much money.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it she would be paying probably like two grand a month to live in that place.
- 42:31SPEAKER_03: It's a one it's yeah, uh two thousand pounds a month to live in that place.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: And she would also and her salary would probably be like 30 grand as well.
- 42:41SPEAKER_03: There is no yeah.
- 42:43SPEAKER_03: I I hope okay.
- 42:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, you think less?
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: I mean more.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: No.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Oh okay.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: Now, now I'm talking.
- 42:52SPEAKER_03: I'm talking if if that was her job now.
- 42:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: Uh it's because it so the equivalent would be like a YouTube news place.
- 43:01SPEAKER_03: She would be on like 30 grand.
- 43:03SPEAKER_02: I mean the market's changed, right?
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the market's changed.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: I know, but that's that's the point I'm making.
- 43:08SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: Um god, I just realized as well.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: This would have been pre-Youtube.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: YouTube 2005.
- 43:19unknown: Yeah.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: This was pre-Youtube.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: Well, that doesn't make a difference.
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: Well it does, because she couldn't she couldn't get chucked out of a plane after YouTube, could she?
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: Cause because that that's that's dime a dozen.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: You see someone get thrown out of a plane.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: I don't know, back in that there were still viral things back then.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: I don't know about that.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: I mean, you're too young to remember that 2004.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: 2004, there was like EBOM's world and things like that.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: I was too young for e Bombs.
- 43:45SPEAKER_03: I had Bebo, but then we had like I was too old for Bebo.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: Who do we have?
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: Is it Rick Roll?
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: No, Rick World have been YouTube.
- 43:53SPEAKER_03: Rick Roll was YouTube.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: No, EBOM's World was the uh the website where they used to host all things, but they used to steal content from RuRails.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Taylor's all this time.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: Ooh.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: I had my first laugh out loud.
- 44:09SPEAKER_02: I had my first laugh out loud moment in this.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: When they they have their like breakup.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: An argument?
- 44:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they have an argument and then she goes to the door, he goes to her door and she gives him a key to get in.
- 44:25SPEAKER_03: And they love each other.
- 44:25SPEAKER_03: They say they love I love you to each other.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: That was my first laugh out loud moment.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: Not that they say I love you to each other, but um when she's on the phone to him and on the answer phone too.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: I thought that was good.
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: I enjoyed that.
- 44:37SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 44:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because she's like, if you are coming here to break up with me, then I'm going to ask you to sod off.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: Oh right, yeah.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: That was pretty funny.
- 44:46SPEAKER_02: Well, also, if you're not here, then let's shag or something like that.
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: Whatever she was saying.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 44:51SPEAKER_04: And then like the the the kids outside are like, Oyoi, oyoi, oh, oy.
- 44:59SPEAKER_04: I wrote that down.
- 45:01SPEAKER_04: I didn't even see it.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: I love you, oyoi.
- 45:08SPEAKER_03: I love you, oy.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: Flashing classic.
- 45:16SPEAKER_03: Look at these chabs.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: Look at these chabs outside my fancy London bridge track.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: And they're off in the distance under darkness, so you can't see them.
- 45:28SPEAKER_03: They're literally they're under the bridge.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: They're standing under the bridge.
- 45:34SPEAKER_03: They wouldn't even hear you.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: Hello.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: So they go on a s they take he takes her on she thinks he's gonna propose or something, but he takes her on he invites her on a ski break.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: The classic tori the classic Tory uh invitation.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: Let's go on a ski break.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: Have you ever been skiing?
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: What?
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: Have you ever been skiing?
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: Once.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: Ah.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: Well.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: I've ever been.
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: It does feel like a classic, rich, white person's holiday.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: It it felt very much that.
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: Or maybe like just middle class lower middle class?
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's like middle class, some kind of middle class thing.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: But it's just it's yeah, I I don't love it.
- 46:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, how come?
- 46:22SPEAKER_03: It's I don't know.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Too boring.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: No, it's kind of boring.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: Not enough women falling over.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: Not enough.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: She chooses, they put her in the really stupid outfit for that scene.
- 46:40SPEAKER_03: She falls on her face.
- 46:41SPEAKER_03: She never skied before, but she tells him this is an expert for some reason.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: For whatever reason.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: There's no way reason for her to say that to him.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: Um, she immediately falls on her face.
- 46:52SPEAKER_02: She likes him a lot in this film, actually.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, for no reason.
- 46:55SPEAKER_03: It doesn't help anything.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: Um so she uh Rebecca's there too.
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: Oh Rebecca! So Rebecca is his assistant.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: And she's jealous of Rebecca the entire time.
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because women hate women.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: Or do they?
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: Or do they or do they no actually we have to we have to come back to that later?
- 47:20SPEAKER_02: We've got to pump in that because I have a lot to say about it.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: Oh, I've got a lot to say about it as well.
- 47:24SPEAKER_03: She goes skiing on her own, she ends up in a race, and it's the slapstick, stupid part of the movie.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: But she wins bronze.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: They the announcer says that she wins bronze, and it's like she has not filled in the paperwork to sign up for this race.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: She just comes in, barging in with her pink puffer outfit thing.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: And she just like skis straight, she like goes flying, she keeps going past the race, ends up directly in front of the directly in front of the pharmacy where she goes to get a pregnancy test.
- 48:02SPEAKER_02: It reminded me of like those Ribina adverts from the like big pink purpley ball bouncing between things.
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: We need to skip a hit, we're gonna we're like so over time.
- 48:19SPEAKER_02: See, I told you, look, if this for your for your season finale, we're bringing so much stupid stuff.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: So yeah, like um, I told we were texting we were okay.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: I I just want to say we were texting because I watched this last week and we went to the side.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, we both watched it last week.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: And and I remember messaging you being like, I've got so much to say it's a lot, and and I've I feel like we've gotta give it its respect and say everything.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: Fine, fine, fine.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: I just want to make sure we talk about there's one specific th part of the movie I want to make sure we're talking about a lot, because I got a lot to say about it.
- 49:01SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: I just want to make sure we are exploring this to reason.
- 49:09SPEAKER_03: She goes to get a pregnancy test because she thinks she thinks she's pregnant, and um she has like this whole she can't describe how uh like she's trying to describe it to them, and they're like, Oh, are you bloated?
- 49:22SPEAKER_03: Are you well all this sort of stuff?
- 49:24SPEAKER_03: Because she's in a foreign country, so she can't speak the language, like she can't speak any words.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: Um and then and then she finds out Mark and they talk about like having the baby Oh shit.
- 49:37SPEAKER_03: And he wants her to go he wants her to go to a uh private school and I wrote down eat and eat and prick Mark Darcy the Tory.
- 49:45SPEAKER_04: He says some like such Tory bullshit.
- 49:50SPEAKER_03: Hold on, I definitely wrote some stuff down because kids.
- 49:53SPEAKER_03: He doesn't want to go to a state school.
- 49:55unknown: Yeah.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: An imaginary kid that he doesn't want to go to a state school.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: He's like, I I could not all the Darcy men, all the Darcy boys have come to Eaton.
- 50:06SPEAKER_03: Um it's not even like it's not even like oh they have to go to a private school, it's like no, it has to be Eaton.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: She she she calls Eton uh a something institution.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: A fashion institution.
- 50:23SPEAKER_02: I'll pretty take all that.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, correct.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: I'll lose that.
- 50:30SPEAKER_02: Oh, actually, another thing.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: Um I looked at the credits pretty long um and the film is sponsored by the tourism board of Austria.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying I was because at that point when they go to Austria, I was like, where is this budget coming from?
- 50:58SPEAKER_03: And anime test Are you serious?
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: Where's this budget from the coming from?
- 51:02SPEAKER_03: The movie was massive, the first one was massive.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but what I mean is like Austria were like we love listen, we love Mr.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: Curry's coming in, we love your movie where this bumbling Rybina has fantastic shags with British men across the island.
- 51:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:23SPEAKER_02: Can you bring it to Austria?
- 51:26SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
- 51:30SPEAKER_03: You're going off on so many like tangents.
- 51:34SPEAKER_03: And thought that's what you wanted.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: I want to discuss the movie, not the tangents about Austria.
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: Okay, go on, go on then, talk about the movie.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: They go back to the they go for lunch.
- 51:49SPEAKER_03: Like it's all awkward, they go, they come back, they go to lunch at her at her parents, and everyone just tweaks her awfully.
- 51:55SPEAKER_03: Rebecca calls, and she gets into a fight with Mark.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: Bridget gets into a fight with Mark, and she leaves, and you realise they've broken up.
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: It cuts her five weeks later, she's single, and the parents are getting remarried.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: What what a slap to the face, eh?
- 52:13SPEAKER_02: What a follow-up from Bridget Rings 1.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: But she should nearly be over it by now because she was sick for six weeks and then it's five weeks.
- 52:21SPEAKER_02: It was at that point where I was like, well, in a rom com, that would be end of act two.
- 52:26unknown: Yeah.
- 52:26SPEAKER_02: This is like end of act one, or like halfway through end of act halfway through two.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: It becomes so blurry because I was like, There's no like there's not a clear structure to it, but yeah, it's about like halfway through.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: And by the way, we still haven't we're about are we about halfway through the movie?
- 52:44SPEAKER_02: Uh yes.
- 52:45SPEAKER_03: I think we're about halfway.
- 52:47SPEAKER_03: Still have not passed the backdale test at this point.
- 52:50SPEAKER_03: Oh really?
- 52:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: Doesn't surprise me, but I don't think we're I I'm gonna state now I don't think we I don't think it passes.
- 52:57SPEAKER_03: Okay, alright.
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: I don't think it I don't think there's a point where it happens.
- 53:00SPEAKER_03: Alright, alright.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna guess that.
- 53:02SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: Um unless there's one there's one specific scene that might pass it, but I'm not entirely sure if it does.
- 53:10SPEAKER_02: There were actually in this bit where she's like having shags with Ben and Jerry, um she there's two things in it that I thought were wild, which was like so well wild is maybe the wrong words.
- 53:26SPEAKER_02: The first thing is um she has that voice message what tells her that she's gonna die alone, blah blah blah.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:31SPEAKER_02: I really like that.
- 53:32SPEAKER_02: I really like any kind of abstract like thing.
- 53:36SPEAKER_02: I feel like they don't they should have done that more in the movie.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: Because they at the beginning they had the Piccadilly Circus bit Yeah to remind us that London is the fifth character, um, and followed by Austria and Thailand.
- 53:52SPEAKER_02: Um but they're like Bridget and Mark Forever or something.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: I I thought they should have done more.
- 53:56SPEAKER_02: I thought she's done more.
- 53:57SPEAKER_02: They do more in the first one, I feel like.
- 53:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 53:59SPEAKER_02: I'm sure they do.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: Um but then there was also another line.
- 54:03SPEAKER_02: So she's on the phone with her mum.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: And she says to her, I've been suicidally depressed.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:12SPEAKER_02: Did you write that down to the phone?
- 54:14SPEAKER_02: No, I just remember it.
- 54:15SPEAKER_02: Do you remember what her mum says to her?
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: Something really light back, I can't remember what it is.
- 54:21SPEAKER_02: So she's in there doing her aerobics and she's like, Don't be silly, Bridget.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: And it's never brought up again.
- 54:29SPEAKER_03: That is room level.
- 54:32SPEAKER_03: I got the test results back, I definitely have breast cancer.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Don't be a silly cow.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: That that is a 2004 moment.
- 54:44SPEAKER_02: That that feels very tough.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: Let's not talk about mental health.
- 54:51SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, they caught so they want they she goes to the work and they want her to be a smooth guide, they call her, they call it a smooth guide.
- 55:03SPEAKER_03: Okay, right.
- 55:04SPEAKER_02: Oh, oh, and she like she like gets harassed in the middle of a big ass meeting.
- 55:11SPEAKER_02: And and the even like the the other non-speaking woman in the room is is like laughing alongside the room, and it's yes, it's a real like example of of how the patriarchy works in British industries in the British workplace in 2004.
- 55:30SPEAKER_02: This is why it's an art house classic.
- 55:33SPEAKER_02: It's not an art house classic.
- 55:34SPEAKER_02: It's a close examination of Britain.
- 55:36SPEAKER_02: I don't get what what's the using that.
- 55:40SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to think of when I first worked.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: Um I I think I the first office like work experience job I ever had was in 2004.
- 55:52SPEAKER_02: And for that office job, did you have a Huguen in a chair spinning around clapping his hands?
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: No, but it was at Warner Brothers, so it could have happened.
- 56:02SPEAKER_02: Oh shit! Are you gonna talk about it?
- 56:05SPEAKER_03: I was only there for a week.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: It's work experience, it's like the the job that you don't want.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: And it wasn't it could have been in fact it could have been colour because it was in the law section.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:21SPEAKER_02: That's not as glam.
- 56:22SPEAKER_02: That's not as glad.
- 56:23SPEAKER_02: It wasn't glamorous.
- 56:24SPEAKER_02: That's not as glam as Hugh Grant's job, where he says, quote, and this is a bit where he's in New York, quote, I've seen sex in the city.
- 56:34SPEAKER_02: Um here in New York, it's not a TV show, but a promise.
- 56:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, hot, it's so uh just was getting I was jacking it from the get-go.
- 56:55SPEAKER_02: The minute he span around from that chair, I was spinning around in my chair.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: So Daniel is hiding at the desk.
- 57:06SPEAKER_03: I don't know how to transition anything you say.
- 57:13SPEAKER_03: How do I transition anything you say?
- 57:15SPEAKER_03: It's all shit.
- 57:21SPEAKER_03: I don't know what else you were expecting.
- 57:22SPEAKER_03: How do I how do I transition you you talking about jacking it at a chair?
- 57:34SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: Um so they they offer her a job of like working with Daniel, but they want her so he's the smooth guy, and they she would be the smooth guy desk.
- 57:46SPEAKER_02: Which they talk about her like she's not in the room.
- 57:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:50SPEAKER_03: Because I wrote down like Daniel's hiding at the desk, and then they take the piss out of her and he says, like, oh she doesn't even know where Germany is.
- 57:57unknown: Yeah.
- 57:57SPEAKER_03: And I wrote down like, oh fuck this movie.
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: That's when you were that's when you were done.
- 58:03SPEAKER_02: That's when you were done.
- 58:05SPEAKER_03: I was done early on, but like I was just like I was just like, why the f she's gonna know what Germany is?
- 58:11SPEAKER_03: She's like moron.
- 58:13SPEAKER_03: Remember you've got the best bit of the film when it goes to Thailand.
- 58:16SPEAKER_03: Oh we're hearing it okay, so we're getting that point.
- 58:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so they they sent so she had she's in the slum class, they call it, on the plane.
- 58:25SPEAKER_03: And then she gets uh she ends up in the middle seat, she got takes her friend with her for some reason.
- 58:31SPEAKER_03: There's no reason I don't know how her friend ends up going with her.
- 58:33SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 58:34SPEAKER_02: I was excited because I was like, oh, we're gonna find out who her friend is because so far her friends have just spoken about Bridget's life.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they even introduce a new character who's like the adult character friend, yeah.
- 58:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but she serves the same purpose to like talk about Bridget's love life.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, she needs someone to talk about it with.
- 58:56SPEAKER_03: So I was excited, yeah.
- 58:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 58:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, isn't it?
- 58:58SPEAKER_03: Is that the only reason that she's there?
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: So it's literally it's the reason it's so like that they can bring up uh anything to do with Bridget and have like a back and forth between it.
- 59:07SPEAKER_03: But that's literally all the purpose of everyone else in this movie.
- 59:10SPEAKER_03: Because like she's not gonna talk to Michael, she's not gonna talk to Michael Daniel about it, so who like who else is she gonna talk to about it?
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: They do give her a tiny subplot.
- 59:21SPEAKER_03: But again, it only serves Bridget later on.
- 59:23SPEAKER_03: Only to serve Bridget's plot later on.
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: Okay, fair enough, fair enough, yeah.
- 59:27SPEAKER_03: Um so she goes to they go to Bangkok, uh she flies, she flies in the slum class, they call it, and then it's all really embarrassing.
- 59:35SPEAKER_03: Um and then she gets bumped up to first class to sit with Daniel, um, who is obviously in first class.
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 59:46SPEAKER_03: And I as soon as I get to Bangkok, I said, this is offensive as hell.
- 59:50SPEAKER_03: Yes, they were so offensive.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: There were some bits of it.
- 59:53SPEAKER_02: I think overall they're the way they present Thailand is offensive.
- 59:59SPEAKER_02: It's incredibly offensive.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: I think there is there are specific scenes where I think um they they would like I was I was like, okay, maybe just this is coming towards it.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: The end of their whole Thailand art just fucking blows any progress out of water.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_03: So I'll tell you I'll I'll tell you something to give context to this actually, and this you might find this quite interesting about this.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_03: I I have a connection to this movie.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, you are holding on to that.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_02: I was holding on to that.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_02: I was waiting for this bit.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_03: Okay, alright.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_03: So I was in Thailand staying at the same hotel that they were staying at, but we uh we we left a week before they came.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: Oh damn.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_02: Did you have the same experiences?
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_03: I did not.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_03: And that's the whole per that's that's what's that's why I'm like, this is offensive as hell.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: Because I was there at the very same time and know what it was like.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: In the same place.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_03: How old are you?
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_03: Uh 15.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, I I don't know much about uh sex work in Thailand.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_02: Spoilers! Uh there's a movie, a British movie that goes to Thailand mentions Thai sex work.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: I'm surprised they didn't bring up like anything to do with ping pong balls, because that's like that's just like the do they?
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_02: They do.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: There's a like a there's a off-coloured joke about it.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what I'm I'm surprised.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_02: I think something about Hugh Grant saying like no Brida Jones is making fun of him.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_02: Oh right.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_02: Only liking women who can do tricks with ping pong balls.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, of course.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_03: Um Yeah, so they there's like there's the the whole massage thing.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: By the way, I wrote Slunk off as well.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_03: But I reckon Richard Curtis probably writes it that way.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_03: He probably considers it a slum class.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_03: Um they go there's the massage stuff, so obviously is that.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_03: Then there's like um they're eating insects and they're like, oh, this is so disgusting.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_02: I fucking hate any film that goes to disgusting food to be like this, they're so out of their comfort zone being away from British food, which is exciting in comparison or or something.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, I gotta love that bland British food.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_03: We're really coming up against like Britain.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_03: Oh I'm not coming up against Britain, I'm just so angry at the This movie is so offensive.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's 2004.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_02: Which is offensive.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_02: It's the same thing.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_02: It's too expensive.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_03: They all go to Kosamui, and oh, I forgot to say, while they're on the plane, her friend meets another guy.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_03: Like this other guy, because it's the I would only only bring that up because it's later important later on.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_03: This other young guy.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_03: He's not young.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_03: He how young is he?
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_03: He's younger than he he's supposed to be like early 20s, I think.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_03: He looks like 40.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_03: But they call him a younger guy.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_03: They call him like a toy boy.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_03: They call him a toy boy.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_02: I mean he looks 40.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_03: He's definitely younger than her.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: But she also doesn't look the same age as Bridget.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_03: She looks older than Bridget, so about 10 years older than Bridget.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_03: Um so later on they'll they go they all have like a magic mushroom omelette.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, a d a d who when so you never seen Bridget Jones 2, right?
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_02: I'd never seen it until now, no.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_02: Did you think watching beforehand that you would watch a movie where Bridget Jones takes mushrooms and goes on a drug bender in Thailand?
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_03: Oh, you gotta give credit to that.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: I knew that well, obviously I knew she was in Thailand, but yeah, but through a personal um experience.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_03: It's very personal to me at 15 with my whole family.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_03: We all went on a drug bender.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_02: A drug bender.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_02: You were taking in lots of clay snake figurines.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_03: Everything in this movie does not reflect what any part of Thailand has.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_03: Um so she flirt she she trips again.
- 1:04:31unknown: Does she?
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_03: Oh no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_03: Sorry, I wrote down she trips as in she's tripping on magic mushrooms.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_02: Oh well she she trips in many different ways.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_02: She trips in many ways.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_03: Deep! So deep characters Then she flirts with Daniel, she goes to his room, and they start stargazing.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_02: I will say, actually, before we go into this bit, while they're flirting, right?
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_02: This is something I completely missed the first time I watched this one.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_02: Daniel says something like you're the best shag I ever had.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_02: And then he follows up with like, well, not since um Charlie something uh in the seventh grade locker room.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_02: So it's like a m malastation joke, isn't it?
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_00: Was that was that a malestation joke?
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_02: I thought it was uh it was a he's such a sexual demon that he dares to have sex with a man.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_03: I don't think that's what it was.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_03: I think he was just like making a it's either a gay joke or it's like a yeah.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_03: Oh okay.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_02: I thought they were trying to put position him as a bi pan character.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_02: Definitely not.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: This is a 2004 monk.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but you say that and none of this matters.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_02: What has Tom we've been chatting about this?
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_02: You're saying as if none of this conversation.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: Brought up again.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_02: It's never brought up again.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_02: They uh well, well, I don't know about that.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know about that.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_03: Not brought up again for him.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_03: Okay, well say I obviously don't remember I missed something then.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_03: Um so they he treats her like she's dumb when they're scargazing, but then it turns out he doesn't even know himself.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_03: Just bullshitting.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_03: Um, that's very cute.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_02: Well, I like the idea that two people can goop around with each other and have fun.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_03: I like the idea of that, but he just treat That's not what's happening.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_03: Okay, alright, alright.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_03: He's treating her like she's an idiot.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_03: Um asks about her giant panties again.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_03: He wants to know if they're still on that.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_03: Of course they are.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_03: She's still wearing them.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: The seventh character of this franchise.
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_03: And she starts panicking, and then there's a knock at the door, and it turns out he's ordered a prostitute, of course.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_03: Twist! Who would have who would have guessed who would have guessed the sexual deviant?
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: Her accent is I don't know I don't know what that is.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_02: I don't know what that is.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: Because Renee Zellweg's accent is has become something else in this film.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's good in the first one, and in this it's not.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_02: But the the Thai um sex worker who I don't think is given a name.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_03: No, of course not.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_03: It's a Thai sex worker.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_00: And I will say though, on the plus side, first personal colour to have a speaking line in this film.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_03: First person of colour.
- 1:07:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, I have a prostitute.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_02: There is there is there I think there's gotta be more than that.
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: There's there's I don't think there's any other person of colour who speaks in this one.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_02: Oh wait, no, no, no, no, sorry, there are more.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_02: No, no, there's a big section where there are more people.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, there's way more, yeah, there's way more.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_03: Which we're getting to now.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_03: She gets stopped at she got they're gonna leave.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_03: She goes to the airport and they they're she's carrying her friend's bag, uh, because her friend doesn't have enough room.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_03: Then they get searched, and there are drugs in the bag that the the guy that the her friend met had plant planted for her to smuggle.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_02: Keep serving up twists after twists.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_03: And then I wrote down you can't do this in English, but I I must have meant you can't do this in England, I think she says to them.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, that is such a colonial mindset.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_02: I'm in your country.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_02: You can't do this in England.
- 1:08:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_02: Which really, really annoyed me.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_02: I um and I will say, I think in the f I wrote this down.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_02: We're at one hour fourteen.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_02: Um we're heading towards the end.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_03: We're nearly the end.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_02: This is where they pass the Backdel tests.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_03: Are you s this is where I thought it was gonna be.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_03: But okay, what's the context?
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_03: Or is it like or or is it like something I haven't explained yet?
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_03: Um no no, you haven't got there yet.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_02: So so it's the bit where um I can't remember her name.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_02: Um I think it's like Sarandal or something like that.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_02: I've probably butchered that.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_02: Um she asks Bridget about her bra and and swapping it for some cigarettes.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_03: That's asking about that.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_03: That's what I thought you were gonna say.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_03: But I couldn't remember if that scene passed it or not.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, like she's she gets stuck in she gets sent to prison, she's stuck, she's been there for 28 hours, and she's still stuck.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_03: Um, and then they start asking her about Madonna and like a virgin, the song and everything.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_03: And they start singing it and performing it.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_02: You look, you gotta leave it to the one white woman in the room to get it.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_03: They're all they're all obsessed with her.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_03: They're all absolutely obsessed with her.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_03: They would not be obsessed with her.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_02: Well, well, she's she's the she's like, all you people of colour, get into shape.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_02: We're gonna rally you up and uh I'm gonna teach you how to say I'm gonna lead you in diction, in pronunciation, in virginity.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_02: And sh and and um I think that's just really uh an allegory for um uh her liberal her liberal persuasion.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_03: It's very it it's also very Thailand and it's so white liberal.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_03: It's so it's so white liberal.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_03: Anyway, the Tory arrives and he's managed because he's human rights lawyer, he's managed to get them to drop the charges.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, acting her acting in that scene is like off the wall.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_02: I don't know what she's trying to communicate.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_03: I said that he's shaming her though.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_03: He shames her for for Thailand and he shames her for uh potentially sleeping with uh Hugh Grant.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_03: But the thing is they are broken up, they've been broken up for nearly as long as they were together at this point, probably longer than they were together at this point.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_03: There's no he's got no say in this.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_03: He doesn't get to shame her for this.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_02: He does Well well they kind of He's got no grounds in this They kind of like address his whole mood during that game at the end.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_02: I mean it's not great.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_02: It's not great, you can't but it's it's it's fine that she's got her corral of um Thai women to support her.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_03: I wrote down something about white exceptionalism fantasy.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: It is a classic W E F.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: It's a wef.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_02: It's a wef.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_02: It's a wef.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_02: It's a wef.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_03: It's a weap.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_03: But they go like I said, that she Darcy Mark Darcy goes back to England.
- 1:12:37SPEAKER_03: Uh she has to wait there, she has to stay for like a few more days or something in the prison.
- 1:12:40SPEAKER_03: I can't remember what it is for wherever I don't get why that is.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, she goes to Darcy goes to meet Daniel in like Daniel's filming in a gallery.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_02: And oh I don't I don't want I don't want to go over that bit, yeah.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_02: I I feel like we're gonna be.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, you want to talk about because they they go back.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_02: She she has her like epiphany, which is that um this is another classic wef situation.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_02: She has her epiphany where she's like, I've been treated horribly.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_02: I I I feel the opposite of shagtastic, and um I feel sh shag awful or whatever.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can't think of puns, okay?
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_02: Um and then all the Thai women are like, oh yeah, he treated you bad, my man treated me bad because I've got the beat.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_02: I've I've I was forced to sell drugs.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_03: I was forced to take heroin.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_02: And that is a heavy subject.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_03: Very heavy, and then she's like, yeah, me too.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_02: She's like, no one, me too.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_02: But secondly, her big takeaway from this is it's not, oh, these women are going through terrible situations.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_02: It's more like I need that man back in my life.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_03: But it's also it's also everything they say is played to be a joke.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_03: Like, these what what they're going through is awful.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_03: Don't use that as a joke.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_02: They do drag her ass though.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_02: They do drag her ass.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_02: They're they're they shut her down because she realizes her exceptionalism.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_03: Well, half sort of realises it.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_03: She's she's halfway down.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_03: I don't agree.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_03: I don't think she is.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_02: Um I think, but it did give me my second big laugh out loud moment when she was talking about how Codin Fur hit her.
- 1:14:32SPEAKER_02: I think the idea of her lying about that is what's funny.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_02: It's so awful.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's such an awful thing to myself.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_03: Um but she like that's it that that makes me not like her.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_03: That's that's the bit in the film where you're you don't like her.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I don't think she's a bad person up until then.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_02: I think she's a pretty pretty bad person throughout the film.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_03: She's not a great person, but she's not a she's not like bad to other people for the most part.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_02: She's quite mean about Rebecca.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, okay, so Rebecca she is mean, yeah.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_03: I'll give that.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_03: Um That's also one of her friends.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_03: Um But anyway, like they Daniel Darcy goes to meet Daniel in the gallery because he's like really angry at Daniel.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_03: Um they have a fight in a fountain, which is just like the second version of the original fight in the first one where they have a fight in the restaurant outside the restaurant.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I was like Sorry?
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_02: I was gonna say the bringing that fight back was I wasn't super into it.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_03: But it wasn't it wasn't a good fight this time either.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_03: It wasn't funny.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_03: Like the first one was funny, this one was kind of just like uh it's the same again.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_02: It wasn't it wasn't funny, but I do like how in obviously Annette both of them are at fighting.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I appreciate that.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_03: I appreciate they're not it's not I like that it's made to look like a realistic fight, at least.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know what else.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Bridget gets home.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_02: Her dad delivers a joke that I enjoyed, which was um I like cigarettes.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_02: I take great comfort in things that will end my life before it gets worse.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_02: It is pretty solid.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_00: I'll give them that.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_03: But her friend, yeah, her friends are in her house when he drops the when they they get she dropped her friend her parents drop her off and her friends are in the house just sitting there and um which is weird.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_03: Like they all have a set of keys or something.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_03: And then they find then she finds out that Mark saved her because he lied and said that oh no, it was such and such that did it.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_03: I didn't do anything, I'm just here to deliver the message.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_03: Turns out he saved her.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_03: He must still love me then because he saved me.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_03: Which doesn't add up, it just means that he I don't think that does.
- 1:16:58SPEAKER_03: No, it just means he tried to help someone he cares about, it doesn't mean he loves her.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_02: Look, he all of this amazing human rights lawyering he does, which he does off-screen.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we see none of it.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_02: We see none of it.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_02: Um that's he they say how he like tr goes to Dubai and all these places, all these tourism boards that wouldn't give funding for a set uh shot.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_02: But but yeah, he does all of that stuff, and and I think that's um that's pretty weird and pretty pretty intense.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_00: They're both really intense people, and that intense redemption for that.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_03: So she goes running for him.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_03: Uh she goes to his house, shows up at his door, and it's Rebecca answering the door.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_02: Oh that villain.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_02: Oh but it was a real showdown.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_03: But however, she said she says that she's actually in love with Bridget.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_03: Not in love with Mark.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_03: Oh shit.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_03: Gay people on existing.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_03: It comes out of nowhere.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_03: Why would she be in love with Bridget?
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_03: Did you see that coming?
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_03: No, because it's so dumb.
- 1:18:18SPEAKER_03: It's like there's no reason.
- 1:18:21SPEAKER_03: I don't think she has any reason to like Bridget.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_03: She's met Bridget like three times, had about three sentences with her.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_03: And is in love with her.
- 1:18:30SPEAKER_02: Everyone in this falls in love like immediately.
- 1:18:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_03: And then she kisses her.
- 1:18:38unknown: Yeah.
- 1:18:39SPEAKER_03: Because they have to have that.
- 1:18:40unknown: Yeah.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_03: And then Bridget's like, oh, thank you, and then runs away.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_02: Um and there's or there's that one guy who's like, go on, men love women kiss, and then he gets in the back.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_02: I will I will have to I have to say, like, so prior to this thinking, oh no, no, no.
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_02: Daniel Radcliffe.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_02: No, Daniel Radcliffe?
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_02: Daniel, what's his face?
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_03: Cleaver.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_02: Cleaver.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_02: He has his fight with Colin Fur.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:06SPEAKER_02: And and then and then he tells him that they didn't have sex.
- 1:19:11SPEAKER_02: They didn't shag.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_02: Um at that point, they he says something like, I actually ended up having sex with a Thai sex worker who turned out to be a guy.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_03: Oh, that's what I got written down.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_03: I was trying to work out what that was, and I couldn't I ignored it.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_00: Um So that's why I was like, he he doesn't say he didn't enjoy that.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_00: He speaks quite fondly about that.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_03: Good point.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_03: I think it's just made for it to be a like uh another uh transgender joke.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_03: I think that's all it is.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_02: Well, that's me trying to be optimistic.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_02: Oh actually, I wasn't optimistic at in the first place because when the Rebecca stuff happens, and think about the Daniel Team stuff, they're the only two characters in this who are shown to be uh non-hetero.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:20:05SPEAKER_03: Um and they also don't there's no like establ there's no lead up to it, there's no established uh path for it.
- 1:20:18SPEAKER_03: So at least we're gonna.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_02: Well I guess she has she has a gay best friend as well, so that's how he's a massive stereotype as well.
- 1:20:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_03: Um but yeah, Bridget goes tries to find to after having the kiss, she goes, goes to find Mark at his office or something like that.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_03: I can't remember where they're going.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_03: It doesn't matter, but she has to go home first to get change.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_03: And she gets in a taxi, of course, because everyone gets taxis in this.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_02: She's not gonna get a bus.
- 1:20:49SPEAKER_02: Everyone gets spent so much money on taxis.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_02: Buses are beneath her, she's she's up with the high flyers running along southwards, I don't think I'm gonna afford a taxi.
- 1:21:04SPEAKER_03: Um and then here's the clip changing montage.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, set to Diana Ross or something.
- 1:21:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that's also that's a that's a callback to the first one, because that's the same music.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_00: What that's cheap.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_03: So the end of the movie in the last one has the same song as the end of the movie in this one.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna blame this movie then for uh this movie reused Diana Ross's song.
- 1:21:35SPEAKER_02: It walks with Diana Ross so that Mamma Mia could run with Mamma Mia 2, Here We Go Again.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_02: Colin, Here We Go Again.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_02: Because they I c I still it still upsets me that uh there's a sequel to a film which reuses this entire musical catalogue.
- 1:21:57SPEAKER_03: Also, Colin Fur's in those.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah! He's bad in that number two as well.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_04: What?
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_03: I haven't seen either of them.
- 1:22:07SPEAKER_03: I'm just like talking out my ass here.
- 1:22:09SPEAKER_00: I don't he has he has good roles.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_00: He but then Colin Firth.
- 1:22:17SPEAKER_03: Hmm.
- 1:22:17SPEAKER_03: It's I yeah she gets uh she has the changing montage and the and the taxi driver's like, uh uh, what are you wearing?
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_03: Uh what you wearing, and they're like, nah, that's perfect.
- 1:22:27SPEAKER_03: Um she immediately gets soaked in water.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_03: And then she talks about and then she talks about it.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no, I gotta talk about this one.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_03: She talks about it.
- 1:22:41SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_03: Alright, alright, okay.
- 1:22:43SPEAKER_03: Sorry, I gotta I gotta mention this before we get it.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_03: Talks about all of this, and then she's like, it's not about the looks, it's not about what things, but she spent so much time determining the kid to him.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_03: She just did it! She just did it, and then we spent five minutes watching her get changed.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_04: I maybe what have we just watched then?
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_04: What are we watching?
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_02: I well look, Bridget Jones, she's not infallible, but she's she's the woman of our nation.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_02: She's our representative.
- 1:23:25SPEAKER_02: She's our representative if I've learned anything from this, is that we can all learn a lot from BJ over here.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_02: Haven't we all been at the edge of reason at one point last?
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_00: Do you think we've ever reached the edge of reason in this film?
- 1:23:43SPEAKER_02: Where would that be?
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_02: Thailand?
- 1:23:47SPEAKER_02: So she goes to a Oh blank me, sure.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_02: What are you talking about?
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_02: I don't know what edge of reason do we get to.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_03: I mean we're at the edge of my insanity.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_03: Um I just want to end this movie.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_02: You don't end it.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_03: We are so over time.
- 1:24:17SPEAKER_03: We're so over time, and I'm not making this a two-part episode.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_03: We have two sections to cover still, Bruce.
- 1:24:29SPEAKER_04: You have to do this in like three parts.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_02: Uh well your audience is gonna be mad because there's quality quality uh streams of thought that go nowhere from me that they're gonna miss out on.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_02: They're not missing out, they're still reading this um we just putting them out, they're misery.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_02: That's what that's what you want to do.
- 1:24:56SPEAKER_03: Yes, I'm trying to end the movie.
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_03: We are so close.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_03: Go on then, go on, do it, do it, do it.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:25:04SPEAKER_03: She shows up to his office, it's a panel, it's one of those like uh he's having a meeting with like the delegates of Chile or something, I can't remember where they say.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_03: And she walks in.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_03: She walks in.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_03: She walks in.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_03: Walks straight in, confesses her love.
- 1:25:21SPEAKER_03: They tell her to like, oh yeah, it's fine.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_03: Say what you need to say in front of all of us.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_03: She confesses her love.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_03: If you were if you were that guy at the desk, yeah.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_03: Go away.
- 1:25:35SPEAKER_02: If you were that guy at the desk and and that's what I'm talking about, I'd say go away.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_03: You tell her to go away.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_03: No, I wouldn't say that, but I'd be thinking it.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_02: I'd be kind of like, I I kind of want to see where this is going.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_02: I'd be on this side.
- 1:25:48SPEAKER_02: I'd be like, uh I want to see her uh embarrass herself called Woolworth.
- 1:25:53SPEAKER_03: Then you're as bad as everyone else in this movie.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_02: Oh that's what I've learned today.
- 1:25:57SPEAKER_02: This is that's the that's the edge of my reason.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_02: Uh I need to go beyond beyond that.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_03: He proposes to her.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_03: But but she like she's like, oh, you're not gonna propose to me or anything, are you?
- 1:26:16SPEAKER_03: And then he's like, and then you find out, oh yeah, he was actually, and then she's like, oh no, I'm embarrassed to do it again, do it again, I'll come in again, and they and then he proposes.
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_02: That was one of the worst um closing up rom-com speeches I've heard.
- 1:26:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_03: There's no like it because he doesn't have anything to say.
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_03: Oh I was talking from her, she's like, I know, but like he he I know I know, but there's like nothing.
- 1:26:41SPEAKER_02: She's like, I'm just a girl soaking wet, um, you're just a boy who's extracted uh a drug trafficker from a Thai prison.
- 1:26:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:26:53SPEAKER_02: Um, and uh because I'm white, it's very easy to take me away from those dangerous situations.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27:01SPEAKER_02: Compared to other people.
- 1:27:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:27:05SPEAKER_02: Um, and and she's like, all I'm asking you to do is not roast me.
- 1:27:15SPEAKER_03: It's awful.
- 1:27:16SPEAKER_03: Like, it's uh and that's the end of the movie, except for one scene where it cuts to a wedding and you're like, Oh, is it gonna be their wedding?
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_03: No, it's her parents getting remarried.
- 1:27:27SPEAKER_03: Callback, swish, bringing it to the circle.
- 1:27:30SPEAKER_02: You would have forgotten about no any other person would have forgotten about those characters because there's two lines in this film.
- 1:27:37SPEAKER_03: It's there's an Oscar nominee playing one of them, and he has two lines in this movie.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_03: But no, they're like, Rich Curtis is like, uh uh uh.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_02: We're coming back, we're bringing it back.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_03: We are only in this to serve the joke at the end of the movie.
- 1:27:51SPEAKER_02: This is a full herald now.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_03: And then the mum throws the bouquet, Bridget misses it, but no, she actually.
- 1:28:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I did not like that scene.
- 1:28:03SPEAKER_03: And then she talks about and now I'm 33, and I'm like for fuck's sake.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_03: That's the end.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_02: I was like.
- 1:28:13SPEAKER_02: Oh well, actually, just well done for Game Crew that you guys first of all.
- 1:28:17SPEAKER_02: Um unclapping for you, bud.
- 1:28:19SPEAKER_02: Unclapping for myself as well.
- 1:28:21SPEAKER_02: But I I I was cringing really hard when they were like kissing at the end.
- 1:28:29SPEAKER_02: And then and then Sardet plays over them.
- 1:28:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:28:33SPEAKER_02: And I like that song.
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_02: So do I know how I associate it with uh Christmas British scene.
- 1:28:42SPEAKER_03: So the thing is, I like a lot of the songs that they would put in the movie, but not the way they put them in here.
- 1:28:48unknown: Yeah.
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_02: She She learns zero of this film.
- 1:28:55SPEAKER_02: I don't think anyone actually learns anything.
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_03: Nobody learns anything, and that's like I think that's why it took so long for the next one to come out.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_03: What did it doesn't come out?
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_03: I'm free.
- 1:29:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Rosenberg Baby came out like uh two or three years ago.
- 1:29:12SPEAKER_03: Oh crap.
- 1:29:13SPEAKER_03: I don't know that.
- 1:29:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:29:15SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_03: And apparently Ed Sheeran's in it.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_03: So Well that's that's that's the sure sign of a great movie.
- 1:29:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_02: Oh man, but like, so you you tell me you did not enjoy any of that.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_03: I I really didn't enjoy it if you couldn't tell.
- 1:29:35SPEAKER_03: Uh let's let's talk let's talk about like forget about what forget about my views.
- 1:29:38SPEAKER_03: What what I want to know why you love the movie.
- 1:29:44SPEAKER_02: I feel like that was supposed to be your first question, what two hours five hours ago?
- 1:29:49SPEAKER_03: No, I I get through the movie, we discuss it, and then I wanna know why you love it.
- 1:29:53SPEAKER_02: I love it because um well a lot of it is ironic.
- 1:30:00SPEAKER_02: I I will admit to that.
- 1:30:01SPEAKER_02: A lot of it is me going like this is crazy.
- 1:30:05SPEAKER_02: Um but uh another part of me is is I'm a sucker for those like basic run con tropes.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_02: You know, you got two opposites and and they do seriously unhealthy things to one another until they fall in love because they realise no one else will pull it over their shit.
- 1:30:22SPEAKER_02: Um so and and I I I'm I'm a big fan of British things from a specific time.
- 1:30:34SPEAKER_02: So me constantly referring to 2004 is like is almost like through a nostalgic lens.
- 1:30:43unknown: Weird.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:30:45SPEAKER_02: 2004 London.
- 1:30:48SPEAKER_02: Strange.
- 1:30:49SPEAKER_03: Wait, how how old were you in 2004?
- 1:30:51SPEAKER_03: 10.
- 1:30:52SPEAKER_03: 10?
- 1:30:54SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 1:30:56SPEAKER_02: Thanks for telling people how old I am on this.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_03: Um do you want me to cut that?
- 1:31:02SPEAKER_03: Or should I leave it in?
- 1:31:04SPEAKER_03: I'm leaving everything in.
- 1:31:05SPEAKER_03: I'm leaving this all in.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_03: It's mad.
- 1:31:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, leave it all in.
- 1:31:07SPEAKER_02: Leave it all in because I want people to know that you are outing people for I gave my age.
- 1:31:19SPEAKER_02: Okay, alright, alright.
- 1:31:20SPEAKER_02: But no, um there are there are some bits I enjoy.
- 1:31:24SPEAKER_02: Like like the bit with the the Piccadilly Circus stuff and like anything that has to voice some bits I enjoy.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_03: The the one passing moment in a where you see a Piccadilly circus sign.
- 1:31:39SPEAKER_02: But what I mean is there were like touches in this film where it feels like they're going more abstract, and I'm I'm like, oh, and then they just they just pulled a rug too quick too early.
- 1:31:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:31:49SPEAKER_02: Um and um Yeah.
- 1:31:57SPEAKER_03: Do do do you have a different view of it now than when you first saw it?
- 1:32:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, definitely.
- 1:32:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:32:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:03SPEAKER_02: It has aged well.
- 1:32:05SPEAKER_03: How old were you when you first saw it?
- 1:32:07SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't know.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_03: Young enough.
- 1:32:10SPEAKER_03: Young enough is not an answer to it.
- 1:32:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's young enough for it to start its reruns, its permanent reruns on IT V2.
- 1:32:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, so it could be any any time.
- 1:32:24SPEAKER_02: That's not that that's another one.
- 1:32:27SPEAKER_02: But that's but that's another vibe.
- 1:32:29SPEAKER_02: So there are like I feel like there's a genre of films which are Sunday hangover films.
- 1:32:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:32:36SPEAKER_02: And that's like a prime Sunday hangover film.
- 1:32:39SPEAKER_03: I would rather watch the first one on a Sunday hangover.
- 1:32:42SPEAKER_02: That is true.
- 1:32:44SPEAKER_03: That I agree with you in that.
- 1:32:46SPEAKER_03: I yeah, because like I really like the first one.
- 1:32:49SPEAKER_03: I think the first one is a classic British movie.
- 1:32:51SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 1:32:52SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 1:32:54SPEAKER_03: And this just doesn't hold up.
- 1:32:57SPEAKER_03: This one does not it doesn't work, and I don't care about anyone in this movie.
- 1:33:03SPEAKER_03: Uh again, yeah, like you say, they're all awful.
- 1:33:07SPEAKER_02: Everyone everyone is terrible to each other.
- 1:33:10SPEAKER_03: Darcy, Mark Darcy in this movie, like, it completely changes his personality from the first one.
- 1:33:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:33:17SPEAKER_02: How many how many shags would you give this movie?
- 1:33:21SPEAKER_02: Out of um five shags.
- 1:33:24SPEAKER_03: Five shags?
- 1:33:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:33:26SPEAKER_03: Uh like one and a half shags.
- 1:33:31SPEAKER_02: One and a half.
- 1:33:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:33:34SPEAKER_03: I don't like it.
- 1:33:35SPEAKER_03: This is at least a two.
- 1:33:37SPEAKER_03: Two this is a two shags.
- 1:33:39SPEAKER_02: At least two shags.
- 1:33:42SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:33:44SPEAKER_03: So five is Shagadelic and then five.
- 1:33:47SPEAKER_02: Five is Shagdelic.
- 1:33:48SPEAKER_02: Then we get to Shag Tastic.
- 1:33:50SPEAKER_02: Shagtastic.
- 1:33:51SPEAKER_02: Uh Shaggy.
- 1:33:54SPEAKER_02: No, no, but that's gotta be like um uh mediocre.
- 1:34:01SPEAKER_04: Mediocros and um yeah, I I don't know what two or one are.
- 1:34:10SPEAKER_04: Shagger rating, shaggating.
- 1:34:12SPEAKER_03: Shagger rating and um and uh blue balls.
- 1:34:22SPEAKER_03: No no no not blue balls.
- 1:34:26SPEAKER_02: Reason edging.
- 1:34:28SPEAKER_02: Reason reason yes, edging.
- 1:34:31SPEAKER_02: Edging 100% edging.
- 1:34:34SPEAKER_02: Edging of reason.
- 1:34:35SPEAKER_02: Are you saying one shag is equal to a hundred percent edging of reasons?
- 1:34:41SPEAKER_03: Shaggy like one yes one is edging of reason.
- 1:34:45SPEAKER_02: One is edging of reason okay.
- 1:34:47SPEAKER_02: Uh well then for me, this is at least um uh I forgot what word was sh sh shag something, you said.
- 1:34:57SPEAKER_03: I don't remember.
- 1:34:57SPEAKER_03: Shagonizing?
- 1:34:58SPEAKER_03: No shag something like that.
- 1:35:03SPEAKER_03: It doesn't matter.
- 1:35:07SPEAKER_03: It does not matter.
- 1:35:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:35:13SPEAKER_02: Moving on.
- 1:35:14SPEAKER_02: Fine, fine, fine, let's move on then.
- 1:35:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, go on.
- 1:35:18SPEAKER_03: Let's move on to and talk about a different thing.
- 1:35:20SPEAKER_03: So I would like to know a movie that's reviewed well and loved by people that you think is bad.
- 1:35:28SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 1:35:29SPEAKER_03: What did you write down?
- 1:35:32SPEAKER_03: Guess.
- 1:35:32SPEAKER_03: I want you to guess.
- 1:35:34SPEAKER_03: Guess.
- 1:35:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:35:35SPEAKER_03: Um can you give me the genre at least?
- 1:35:37SPEAKER_03: Um that would give it away.
- 1:35:40SPEAKER_02: I think I'll give it away.
- 1:35:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:35:42SPEAKER_02: Let's just say let's just say it's a cultural touchstone.
- 1:35:49SPEAKER_03: Cultural touchstone.
- 1:35:50SPEAKER_03: As in like British cultural touchstone.
- 1:35:52SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:35:53SPEAKER_03: No?
- 1:35:53SPEAKER_03: Um pop cultural touchstone.
- 1:35:58SPEAKER_03: Uh The Matrix.
- 1:36:02SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:36:02SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:36:03SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm gonna go with Star Wars 4.
- 1:36:09SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna be silent.
- 1:36:13SPEAKER_03: Um, explain yourself.
- 1:36:15SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:36:16SPEAKER_02: Um, so I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I first watched it when I was 20.
- 1:36:21SPEAKER_02: So I didn't grow up watching it.
- 1:36:23SPEAKER_02: I grew up watching a lot of Studio Jibli.
- 1:36:26SPEAKER_02: Um but what irks me about it a lot is that it's a big pastiche of um Japanese Ronin films.
- 1:36:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:36:39SPEAKER_02: But doesn't in any way acknowledge that in any way that I think is is good enough.
- 1:36:45SPEAKER_02: I also kind of think it's uh like Bridget Jones 2, it's quite a meandering film.
- 1:36:51SPEAKER_02: I'm constantly waiting for the next thing to happen.
- 1:36:55SPEAKER_02: How are you comparing Star Wars to Bridget Jones 2?
- 1:37:02SPEAKER_02: I look, okay, it was either gonna be Star Wars Avatar.
- 1:37:10SPEAKER_03: Um do people like Avatar?
- 1:37:13SPEAKER_03: Not so much anymore, I don't think.
- 1:37:14SPEAKER_03: I think when it came out, but I don't think it holds up.
- 1:37:17SPEAKER_03: Um it's not like people are excited for the next one, am I like?
- 1:37:21SPEAKER_00: Can I say Harry Potter?
- 1:37:22SPEAKER_00: Does that count?
- 1:37:23SPEAKER_03: If you if Oh definitely count.
- 1:37:25SPEAKER_00: I might just definitely count.
- 1:37:29SPEAKER_02: Star Wars and Harry Potter.
- 1:37:31SPEAKER_03: Star Wars and Harry Potter, I do not like Chuck in Lord of the Fucking Lord of the Rings.
- 1:37:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, I can I can talk a lot about why about it like like about Star Wars.
- 1:37:46SPEAKER_02: I think let's focus on Star Wars.
- 1:37:49SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:37:49SPEAKER_03: Um yeah, you said you said it's a fascinating of of um like Japanese Roman films, but it's also like it borrows a lot from like early like 1930s German films as well, like it takes from like and Russian films.
- 1:38:03SPEAKER_03: It takes from it takes from uh Battleship Potemkin a lot, I think.
- 1:38:07SPEAKER_03: And then um it's also like the Nazi symbolism and all those sorts of things.
- 1:38:13SPEAKER_02: I think I think okay, I think it's a bit unfair for me because the reasons why I I don't like it uh is because of uh I think it's just a bit oversaturated in my mind.
- 1:38:24SPEAKER_03: And like Yeah, I can understand like getting rich I do understand like getting to it later on in life.
- 1:38:28SPEAKER_03: It's just like it doesn't, it's not gonna hold it's not gonna affect you in the same way.
- 1:38:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and like yeah, it's that that just that's what it is for me.
- 1:38:35SPEAKER_02: I didn't grow up with it, so it doesn't mean anything to me.
- 1:38:37SPEAKER_02: And people other people it can mean a lot of things.
- 1:38:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you already saw it for the first time this year, so this would be this well Okay but it just it it never stood out to me.
- 1:38:55SPEAKER_02: Nothing in it made me I think a big part of it as well, it's just parodied everywhere.
- 1:39:01SPEAKER_02: So I know yeah when you go back to a film that meant so much to newer filmmakers, yeah, they've all taken elements of whatever that is and made it their own and dare I say it in better ways.
- 1:39:19SPEAKER_02: Um that when I watched it, it felt like a mash of a bajillion films I've seen.
- 1:39:26SPEAKER_02: Fair.
- 1:39:27unknown: Yeah.
- 1:39:28SPEAKER_03: I understand that.
- 1:39:29SPEAKER_03: Have you out of interest, have you listened to that uh Nicole Bayer and uh Lauren Lapkiss podcast on it?
- 1:39:34SPEAKER_02: I have not.
- 1:39:37SPEAKER_03: I feel like you would side with them on a lot of it.
- 1:39:40SPEAKER_03: Because they are it's them watching it for the first it's them watching the whole series for the first time.
- 1:39:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:39:45SPEAKER_03: So you should listen to it and see how much you it relates.
- 1:39:49SPEAKER_02: Look, I d look, I I just want to say I tried, yeah.
- 1:39:52SPEAKER_02: I watched four, I watched Tom Don Boyega.
- 1:39:57SPEAKER_02: Um basically the same film.
- 1:40:03SPEAKER_02: Okay, but that's on JJ Abrams, that's not on Jrams.
- 1:40:07SPEAKER_03: Jumbrams.
- 1:40:10SPEAKER_03: That's on him, you're saying they're basically the same film.
- 1:40:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'd I'd say Yeah, that's on JJ Abrams then for writing the same thing.
- 1:40:18SPEAKER_02: That's not Shagtastic behaviour.
- 1:40:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, I'll I'll say that.
- 1:40:22SPEAKER_02: I'll give that to him.
- 1:40:24SPEAKER_03: Bring it back to Bridg bringing it back to Bridget Jones.
- 1:40:27SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:40:28SPEAKER_03: It's the basically the same film, but worse.
- 1:40:31SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't know, I mean we've we've we've had a very long chat and about the the political nuances about his uh criticisms of British society and uh liberals and Tories and shagging.
- 1:40:54SPEAKER_03: I mean I I think it's let's end this fantastic episode here.
- 1:41:04SPEAKER_03: Fine.
- 1:41:08SPEAKER_03: Thank you very much for being a guest.
- 1:41:10SPEAKER_03: Can I get any plugs from you?
