- 0:00Hello and welcome to the Everyday Eurasia podcast,
- 0:04Inspiring Faith for Every Day. Each day we are on a journey
- 0:08with Jesus in our churches, our homes, our workplaces, and in so
- 0:13many different places around the world.
- 0:16Is it beautiful that no matter where we are, we can walk with
- 0:20him every single day? Jesus is the one who connects us
- 0:24all and stands at the very center of our lives day after
- 0:28day. Through this podcast, you'll
- 0:30hear voices from across the region sharing devotionals that
- 0:34reminds us of God's presence in our everyday moments.
- 0:43This week, we'll be journeying together with Chet Gibbons.
- 0:46Chet serves as the Neswing Discipleship International
- 0:49Coordinator for the Eurasia Region.
- 0:52As a missionary, he lives and serves alongside his wife
- 0:55Crystal from the regional office in Businger, Germany.
- 0:58You will take a look together at the five core principles of NDI
- 1:02but. We're going through the five
- 1:04core principles of NDI here on the Everyday Eurasia podcast,
- 1:07and I want to take a moment just to explain what NDI is stands,
- 1:13of course, for Nazarene Discipleship International.
- 1:16But what is the purpose of it? Well, the purpose of NDI is to
- 1:20help our church fulfill the Great Commission that Jesus gave
- 1:24us and indeed the mission statement of our church to make
- 1:29Christ like disciples in the nations.
- 1:32We exist as a church to do this. Now, a lot of times people think
- 1:36of churches just the place that you get together on Sunday
- 1:40morning, and that's great. But if that's all we're doing,
- 1:45we may not be making disciples the way Jesus intended us to be.
- 1:50Nazarene Discipleship International exists so that
- 1:55we're not dependent on just one person on a Sunday morning,
- 1:59giving us everything we need to become a disciple.
- 2:03Discipleship often times happens outside of the Sunday morning
- 2:08church, where we're gathered together in prayer, we're
- 2:11gathered together to read the scriptures, we're gathered
- 2:14together to encourage one another to grow closer together
- 2:18in relationship. And Nazarene Discipleship
- 2:21International's goal is so that the work of discipleship would
- 2:26be spread throughout the church family.
- 2:29Hopefully there are people who are passionate about
- 2:32discipleship in your church. If you're one of those people,
- 2:36we need you to pray for your church family to be thinking
- 2:41about the people in the church, where they are in their walk
- 2:45with Christ, and what do they need to go to take that next
- 2:48step. And so NDI exists to get the
- 2:52resources to empower God's people and to encourage the
- 2:56church body to become disciples and to make disciples and not to
- 3:00just put it on the pastor to do everything.
- 3:05Now, the fourth core principle of NDI is comprehensive biblical
- 3:09learning. The Bible is essential to our
- 3:14walk with Christ. It's it's many times how we
- 3:17encounter Christ is through the testimony of the witnesses that
- 3:23knew him and wrote about him. Jesus as he was resurrected,
- 3:28walked with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.
- 3:33And in Luke 24, 27, Jesus says how foolish are you and how slow
- 3:40to believe all that the prophets have spoken?
- 3:43Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then
- 3:46enter into His glory? And beginning with Moses and all
- 3:50the prophets, Jesus explained to them what was said in all the
- 3:54scriptures concerning Himself. One of the things the
- 3:58resurrected Jesus thought was very important was to go through
- 4:02the Scriptures together to explain to us that everything in
- 4:08the Scriptures points to Jesus himself.
- 4:12We need to be people of the Scriptures, not just so we know
- 4:16more Bible stories, although that's good, but to understand
- 4:20the one big Bible story and how all of it points to Jesus, and
- 4:26to learn how we fit into the story that the Bible is telling.
- 4:33Comprehensive biblical learning isn't just about learning facts.
- 4:36It's about understanding our place in what God has been doing
- 4:41since creation and is continuing to do into the consummation.
- 4:46In order for us to play a part in what God is doing, we have to
- 4:49know not just what we're supposed to do.
- 4:53Many times we ask ourselves that question, What am I supposed to
- 4:56do in this situation? Well, before you can answer the
- 4:59question of what you're supposed to do right now, you need to
- 5:03know first what story you're a part of.
- 5:08And once you understand the story you're a part of, then we
- 5:12will naturally know what to do in any given situation because
- 5:17we will understand the direction that God is taking the story and
- 5:22our part in it. But comprehensive biblical
- 5:25learning was essential to the resurrected Jesus.
- 5:29And it's it's essential to our discipleship as Christians.
- 5:33Let's pray. God thank you for not leaving us
- 5:39in the dark concerning your plans and what has gone before,
- 5:43but that you have given us a light to our feet and a
- 5:47direction for our lives that you have made in desire to make our
- 5:52paths straight as we walk with you.
- 5:55Lord, I pray for all of the churches, all of our churches
- 5:58and all of the people that are listening to this that if there
- 6:01are those that are passionate about discipleship that they
- 6:04would get together and say we need to help our brothers and
- 6:07sisters grow in the knowledge of Christ.
- 6:12And I pray that your spirit would be upon us as we fulfil
- 6:15the Commission that you gave to us in Jesus name, Amen.
