- 0:01Speaker 1: What is going on, everyone? Welcome to Quick Beer Reviews
- 0:03Speaker 1: with your pals Alan and Rapid Dave.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I'm Alan. I'm BGD. What up?
- 0:09Speaker 1: That's what's up, brother.
- 0:10Speaker 2: We're clearing the fridge.
- 0:11Speaker 1: We're clearing the fridge. I don't know how old this is.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I don't think mine's that old, but it could be.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I feel like I've bought this within the last year,
- 0:20Speaker 1: but who knows?
- 0:21Speaker 3: Mine's two years old at least. I mean, at the
- 0:24Speaker 3: bare minimum, dude. I've had this in the fridge forever.
- 0:27Speaker 1: But we're having from Turning Point, Gennaro. Mm-hmm. is what
- 0:31Speaker 1: we got going here. It's a, uh, West coast style
- 0:34Speaker 1: IPA with mosaic Chinook and Amarillo hops. And would you
- 0:39Speaker 1: say this was 7%?
- 0:39Speaker 2: 7.1.
- 0:40Speaker 3: If I don't remember, if I, if I remember correctly,
- 0:45Speaker 3: I saw it somewhere. Oh, I think I saw it
- 0:47Speaker 3: on the website, like, uh, one of their websites. It's
- 0:50Speaker 3: a year round offering. I thought it was a Christmas beer.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Cause one it's red, it's red, white, and green. And I,
- 0:56Speaker 3: I saw Gennaro. So I was like, Oh, it's from diehard,
- 0:58Speaker 3: but I don't know, man.
- 0:59Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:01Speaker 3: That's the first thing. That's the only time I ever
- 1:03Speaker 3: heard the word Gennaro in my life.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I was like, oh, cool. Christmas beer, huh?
- 1:08Speaker 3: We're getting towards the late October, so we're about to
- 1:11Speaker 3: flip things over to Thanksgiving.
- 1:13Speaker 2: A little early for Christmas, though. I don't skip Thanksgiving.
- 1:16Speaker 2: It's just something I don't do. Can't do it.
- 1:19Speaker 1: I'd be thankful I've almost made it through another year.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Cheers.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Mazel mazel, good things.
- 1:24Speaker 2: There we go. Cheers.
- 1:27Speaker 1: A little hoppy.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that's hoppy.
- 1:35Speaker 1: That's good.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I like that. It's been a while since I had
- 1:39Speaker 2: a West Coast, though. Man, that's good. It's not too.
- 1:43Speaker 3: You know, back in the day when you had, like,
- 1:45Speaker 3: a West Coast beer, it was over the top.
- 1:48Speaker 2: It was super bitter. It's super, like... It just attacked you. Boy,
- 1:52Speaker 2: this is delicious. It's been sitting in the can, obviously.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I mean, look at the head on it. Carbonation's still great.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Clarity's there. I mean, it's checking boxes left, right, and center.
- 2:02Speaker 1: For sure. I'm pretty sure I got this at, like,
- 2:07Speaker 1: Total Wine. Really?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Interesting.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm pretty sure. Which, God only knows how old
- 2:13Speaker 1: it is if I got that at Total Wine.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Oh, buddy. Even if I did buy it this year.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I'll tell you what, though.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It's pretty damn tasty.
- 2:22Speaker 2: It ain't bad.
- 2:23Speaker 1: It's got an average score of 3.82 out of 5
- 2:25Speaker 1: when untapped, out of only 667 ratings. It's pretty low.
- 2:26Speaker 1: What's a description of it? It doesn't really have much.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It says, based on the hops, expect citrus, grapefruit, and
- 2:39Speaker 1: some pine and some noticeable hop bitterness. Unlike a hazy IPA,
- 2:44Speaker 1: a West Coast IPA generally emphasizes a cleaner, crisper finish.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Interesting. Okay.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It does say, for Strikeout Beer, interesting fact, Turning Point
- 2:56Speaker 1: is known for its hazy IPAs, but Gennaro goes in
- 3:00Speaker 1: the more traditional West Coast direction.
- 3:02Speaker 2: It's an American IPA according to this.
- 3:04Speaker 3: No one has checked this in on untapped since January
- 3:08Speaker 3: 26th or 31st of this year.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Really?
- 3:13Speaker 3: I'm looking at untapped. All I can do is report.
- 3:16Speaker 1: All you can do is report?
- 3:18Speaker 2: That's all I can do. Read up, report, move on.
- 3:24Speaker 1: So here's a fun fact. We have checked this in
- 3:28Speaker 1: on untapped. ChatGPT pulled that. We've checked it in twice.
- 3:35Speaker 1: No scores, but we checked it in on June 14th
- 3:39Speaker 1: and June 22nd of 2025.
- 3:43Speaker 2: A week apart. Okay.
- 3:46Speaker 3: So West Coast IPA is a hot forward craft beer
- 3:48Speaker 3: style defined by a crystal clear appearance, prominent bitterness, and
- 3:51Speaker 3: a crisp dry finish, as you mentioned. The appearance should
- 3:54Speaker 3: be typically bright, transparent, and golden to amber. That's how
- 3:59Speaker 3: it varies, right? Um, but it should be pretty bright.
- 4:02Speaker 3: It should be transparent, which as you can tell here, yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 3: very bright.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Mine's more Amber.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Yours actually looks more. Oh yeah.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Mine's golden. Yeah. Bright golden. No Amber here. Yours is Amber. Yeah. Okay.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Uh, hot bitterness and profile features, heavy hop side, boiling additions, uh,
- 4:23Speaker 3: that drive higher IBUs usually range from 50 to 80, uh,
- 4:26Speaker 3: 80 plus, uh, Aroma dominated by a classic American hop
- 4:31Speaker 3: note of pine, resin, citrus, and grapefruit, though modern versions
- 4:35Speaker 3: increasingly incorporate tropical or stone fruit bases. I definitely get
- 4:39Speaker 3: a lot of pine, resin, a little bit of citrus.
- 4:42Speaker 3: So we're definitely checking boxes on the classical note here.
- 4:46Speaker 1: For shizzle.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Malt body downplayed in lean traditional recipes use a touch
- 4:51Speaker 3: of crystal and caramel malt for structure, while modern versions
- 4:55Speaker 3: often trim the malt build down. to a lighter, cleaner base,
- 4:59Speaker 3: like a Pilsner malt, to let the hop shine. Finish highly,
- 5:04Speaker 3: I don't even know what that word is, dry, leaving
- 5:07Speaker 3: a clean, refreshing palate instead of a lingering sweetness.
- 5:11Speaker 2: No sweetness here. No sweetness.
- 5:13Speaker 3: More dry, a little bit of bitterness on the ass
- 5:16Speaker 3: end of it. And so alcohol by volume, they usually
- 5:19Speaker 3: end between 6 and 7.5. And we said this is 7.1. 7.1, yeah.
- 5:21Speaker 2: 7.1 on this one.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I'd say it's pretty damn tasty.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It's quite good. I'll be honest with you. It's quite good.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I think that's interesting that our beers both look different, though.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I mean.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yours is clear and mine's a little bit.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Mine looks like an IPA. Yeah, I don't know.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Weird. I don't know when you bought yours, but I've
- 5:50Speaker 3: had mine for a while. I've had mine for Like
- 5:55Speaker 3: I said, about two years, man.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It has to be about two years.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Like I said, I'm pretty sure I got this at.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Total Wine.
- 6:04Speaker 3: See, I got mine from actual Turning Point.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I rolled out with this mother. You know what I'm saying? Oh, Jesus.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I haven't been there in a while. It's been a minute.
- 6:14Speaker 2: I like going there. So what I do is... So
- 6:16Speaker 2: Turning Point's awesome. They did downsize.
- 6:18Speaker 3: They went to the bigger arena that they had to
- 6:21Speaker 3: a smaller tap room where they got little They did
- 6:24Speaker 3: shut down the slot machines.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I will tell you that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: You see what they're doing, though? They're building like a
- 6:30Speaker 1: little outdoor patio spot.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Nice.
- 6:33Speaker 3: It's a time of the year for it, too. If
- 6:34Speaker 3: you can ever sit in a patio around this time
- 6:36Speaker 3: of the year, do it.
- 6:37Speaker 1: They got construction going on like to the left of
- 6:41Speaker 1: the building where the parking was. That's turning into like
- 6:44Speaker 1: an outdoor.
- 6:45Speaker 2: A little awning and area or whatever. Okay, cool.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I actually sat in the main area the previous
- 6:52Speaker 3: time I was there before the last. Last time, Lizzie
- 6:56Speaker 3: and I, we took up a couch in the back
- 6:58Speaker 3: and just hung out and had a flight.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I like the intimacy.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Even with my brother and the boys were there, we
- 7:04Speaker 3: were sitting there playing cate a little bit, enjoying ourselves.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Had a couple of flights, a couple of good beers.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Live music was going on. I really do like it.
- 7:13Speaker 2: It's a place that I go on my way to the.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Arcades. Arcade. I was going to say the casino, but
- 7:19Speaker 2: I was like, no.
- 7:20Speaker 1: We're not on the way to the casino.
- 7:24Speaker 3: That's the wrong way. If I know I'm going to
- 7:26Speaker 3: Time Rift, then I'll go to Turning Point. If I'm
- 7:30Speaker 3: going to Electric Starship, I'll go to False Idol. That's
- 7:35Speaker 3: the difference between those for me. I like the selection.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Sometimes it's a bit much. The old place, you'd get
- 7:41Speaker 3: there and you're looking all the way. There's 50 different
- 7:44Speaker 3: beers to have.
- 7:45Speaker 1: It was quite excessive.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh, extensive. I don't know about excessive extensive.
- 7:50Speaker 1: There's a lot, there's a lot. Um, but I didn't
- 7:53Speaker 1: mind it. Like, I'm not like, Oh no, you've got
- 7:56Speaker 1: too many beers. This place sucks. No, no, it was,
- 8:01Speaker 1: it was cool.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Yeah. Really nice. Nice staff. Cool place.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Everybody else that's in there is really cool as well.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Chill. It's a chill vibe. It really is.
- 8:10Speaker 3: I mean, you're there to have some beers and enjoy yourself.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Everybody's keeping to themselves. No one's too loud. Um, It's
- 8:16Speaker 3: in a strip mall. It used to be next to a,
- 8:18Speaker 3: I don't think that church is that church still there?
- 8:20Speaker 1: No, it's a pickleball place now.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Oh my God. Kill me now. Anyways.
- 8:24Speaker 3: So it used to be a cool place before and
- 8:25Speaker 3: now pickleball is taking over.
- 8:27Speaker 1: But, uh, do you want pickleball next door or do
- 8:31Speaker 1: you want them? You want the church out front with
- 8:34Speaker 1: the keyboard singing hymns while you're drinking?
- 8:37Speaker 2: What do you think I want?
- 8:39Speaker 1: Well, the people playing pickleball, they're indoors and they're not
- 8:41Speaker 1: bothering you.
- 8:43Speaker 3: David, I'm willing to drive by on a, uh, little
- 8:47Speaker 3: sermon every so often.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I don't... You're very.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Well known for not liking the people of the church. What?
- 8:56Speaker 2: What are you talking about? I'm a devout Catholic, sir.
- 8:59Speaker 2: What are you talking about?
- 9:01Speaker 1: We've abandoned Judaism.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I can't take it no more.
- 9:05Speaker 3: I mean, it's just crazy. Anything's better than pickleball. I mean,
- 9:10Speaker 3: pickleball sucks. Like, it's so... All the videos you see
- 9:14Speaker 3: are just so bad. I'm out. But anyways, I do
- 9:19Speaker 3: like Turning Point. Turning Point's awesome.
- 9:20Speaker 2: A lot of parking.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I love the inside. Obviously, hopefully they'll have the out.
- 9:25Speaker 3: I mean, just give me a patio, man. Just give
- 9:28Speaker 3: me a patio.
- 9:29Speaker 2: And I'm in.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Got cool weather ahead of us here. We're in October now.
- 9:32Speaker 3: We're in the ass end of things.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Can't wait. So cheers, buddy.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Cheers. Mazel mazel, good things. Let's finish her off.
- 9:46Speaker 2: There you go.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Pretty good. I'm not going to give it a score
- 9:48Speaker 1: just because I don't know how old it is.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But definitely thumbs up for sure. Okay.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I got 805 total check-ins. 733 of those are unique.
- 10:00Speaker 3: 3.82 average score out of 667 ratings i am going
- 10:04Speaker 3: to go four on this one okay it is a
- 10:07Speaker 3: banger for a west coast really good i love the
- 10:10Speaker 3: style uh 7.1 percent alcohol volume na on the ibus
- 10:14Speaker 3: which let's be honest it's about 40 to 60 on
- 10:17Speaker 3: this one You know, it's quite hoppy, but they really
- 10:24Speaker 3: tone it down. And if you can get your hands
- 10:26Speaker 3: on this one, I would recommend it.
- 10:29Speaker 2: It's damn good.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I would say it's good and good for you.
- 10:33Speaker 2: There you go. Dr. Allen's in the house. There you go.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Thumbs up. Two thumbs up. Okay.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So fun fact.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Hold on here.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Maybe this is a Christmas beer. Because there's a label here,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and I don't know if this label is from Turning Point,
- 10:56Speaker 1: but there's a label that pulled for it when I
- 10:59Speaker 1: looked it up on ChatGPT. And over on the left
- 11:02Speaker 1: side of it, it says Gennaro on here, and it says, yes,
- 11:06Speaker 1: Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
- 11:08Speaker 3: I'm telling you, I think this is a Christmas beer.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Oh, wait, no. This is Surf City Brewing.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Oh, God. Let's just go. It's over there to the right.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Thanks for hanging out, pal.
- 11:19Speaker 1: You know what, though? Knowing them, it might have something
- 11:22Speaker 1: to do with.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I don't know why it'd be named Gennaro.
- 11:26Speaker 1: They do a lot of pop culture references. They used
- 11:30Speaker 1: to have Rick and Morty October. I can't remember what
- 11:35Speaker 1: it was called. They had seven or eight different Rick
- 11:40Speaker 1: and Morty inspired beers that they all released. Okay. Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 2: But no, yeah, Turning Point. Go check it out.
- 11:46Speaker 1: It's good and good for you. As always, I'm Alan.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I'm Marty. We'll talk to you later.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Deuces.
