- 2:15Speaker 3: welcome to the show, now, doctor Casey Sacks of Bridge Valley.
- 2:18Speaker 3: How you doing, doctor Sacks?
- 2:19Speaker 7: Good morning, Dave. I'm doing much better than you. At
- 2:22Speaker 7: your forgotten note, I.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Mean, guess what I found them. They're right here in
- 2:27Speaker 3: front of all right, And so there goes the whole
- 2:31Speaker 3: thing that I add lib everything right. You would think
- 2:33Speaker 3: that if I add lib that I'd be better. I mean,
- 2:36Speaker 3: I'm sorry, if I had scripted notes, I'd be much
- 2:38Speaker 3: better than what I am.
- 2:39Speaker 7: You know, but you said you forgot your prep. I
- 2:42Speaker 7: just cracked up.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Lasting it's all right here, it's all right here in
- 2:46Speaker 3: front of me now, all right, So how are you,
- 2:48Speaker 3: doctor Sachs.
- 2:50Speaker 7: I'm doing great. How about you?
- 2:52Speaker 3: I'm doing five. It's the little things that keep you
- 2:54Speaker 3: keep you. And I'm glad I could start your day
- 2:56Speaker 3: with a laugh.
- 2:56Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 2:58Speaker 7: See you made my day.
- 2:59Speaker 3: Well, what I do is is, you know, you and
- 3:01Speaker 3: I will talk that day before and I get some
- 3:03Speaker 3: basic ideas of what it is you want to talk about.
- 3:05Speaker 3: You know, Bridge Valley one of the fine sponsors of
- 3:06Speaker 3: the show. And I get that, and I just jot
- 3:08Speaker 3: out a little thing. It's not like I have like
- 3:09Speaker 3: a you know, handwritten questions for everybody. I just write
- 3:12Speaker 3: out some notes so I know basically what I'm talking about.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I got to Sheriff Joe Crawford coming up in the
- 3:16Speaker 3: second segment today, and also the mayor of Hurricane Scott
- 3:20Speaker 3: Edwards is going to join us as well, So I
- 3:21Speaker 3: got to have something. Well between four hours of radio,
- 3:25Speaker 3: you know, one hour here and three in the afternoon,
- 3:27Speaker 3: I got to have some sort of notes that, you know,
- 3:29Speaker 3: you know, to know what I'm doing. Plus in there
- 3:31Speaker 3: somewhere there's something about the stuff I do on the
- 3:33Speaker 3: mountain and on a ninety six one KWS. But there's
- 3:36Speaker 3: also probably a store list in there too. So it's
- 3:39Speaker 3: it's all in the jumbled mind and the jumbled notebook
- 3:41Speaker 3: of Dave Allen.
- 3:42Speaker 7: How's that it seems reasonable?
- 3:44Speaker 3: Nothing seems reasonable when you're talking about me. All right,
- 3:48Speaker 3: I understand you guys are celebrating of a milestone with
- 3:52Speaker 3: your nursing program. Talk about it.
- 3:54Speaker 8: We are.
- 3:55Speaker 7: So the Bridge Valley nursing program turns twenty this year,
- 3:58Speaker 7: which is incredible to Bridge Valley's not that old. So really,
- 4:02Speaker 7: it's quite a historic program. It was at West Virginia
- 4:05Speaker 7: State University. Benett was at Canaw Valley Community and Technical College,
- 4:09Speaker 7: and then Cannaw Valley and Bridgemont merged and we had
- 4:12Speaker 7: Bridge Valley Community and Technical College. That happened eleven years ago,
- 4:16Speaker 7: and so the nursing program is actually twenty years old,
- 4:20Speaker 7: even though the college is only eleven.
- 4:23Speaker 3: And you got anyway, how many, I mean, give me
- 4:26Speaker 3: a ballpark figure. I mean, I know, it's very it's
- 4:29Speaker 3: a complete ballpark figure. At about the number of nurses
- 4:33Speaker 3: that you produce annually.
- 4:36Speaker 7: We're just under four hundred yerolled right now, so about
- 4:39Speaker 7: half graduate every year. It's a two year program.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Awesome, that's awesome. It's again we're talking with not Casey
- 4:44Speaker 3: Saxstonbridge Valley now. In order to celebrate this milestone in
- 4:48Speaker 3: the nursing community, you've got an event coming up. Talk
- 4:50Speaker 3: about that.
- 4:52Speaker 7: We do so October tenth at six point thirty at
- 4:55Speaker 7: the Russner. Our nursing faculty are doing a Murder Mystery
- 4:59Speaker 7: evening and the community is invited. We're asking folks to
- 5:02Speaker 7: go to our foundation and purchase tickets and it should
- 5:05Speaker 7: be a really fun event.
- 5:06Speaker 3: And the Roughner, And we've talked about different events. Doctor
- 5:09Speaker 3: Sax's being held at the Roughner here in Charleston. It
- 5:11Speaker 3: is a fantastic venue. I mean, if you've never been there,
- 5:14Speaker 3: it is really really a cool venue. And this I got.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I had some friends that participate in that, and maybe
- 5:19Speaker 3: not the one you're doing, but in these murder mystery things,
- 5:21Speaker 3: people really enjoy those.
- 5:23Speaker 7: We really hope that they do. Our faculty have put
- 5:26Speaker 7: together what looks like a very fun sort of nursing
- 5:29Speaker 7: related scenario, and then you're right, the Restner is a
- 5:32Speaker 7: very beautiful place.
- 5:34Speaker 3: It is indeed. So I want to talk about a
- 5:37Speaker 3: couple of other things that are going on at at
- 5:39Speaker 3: Bridge Valley. You got your annual Pumpkin Drop that's coming up,
- 5:43Speaker 3: and this is a big, big event. How do this
- 5:45Speaker 3: whole thing? I know you weren't there when it started,
- 5:47Speaker 3: but tell us how this whole thing came about it
- 5:49Speaker 3: and exactly what goes on in the date is on
- 5:52Speaker 3: October the sixteenth, I understand talk about them.
- 5:55Speaker 7: It is so Pumpkin Drop is on the sixteenth, And
- 5:58Speaker 7: what happens if you've never been a part of it,
- 6:00Speaker 7: is that aap comes with those big bucket trucks and
- 6:04Speaker 7: students from all over West Virginia are invited. Right now,
- 6:08Speaker 7: we have twenty six schools registered, so teachers in the
- 6:11Speaker 7: K twelve space bring teams of kids who have created
- 6:15Speaker 7: something to protect a bus, to protect a pumpkin from
- 6:19Speaker 7: being dropped from the bucket truck. So often students put
- 6:23Speaker 7: it in a box or surrounded with pillows or styrophobe
- 6:26Speaker 7: or whatever it is. But they've designed something that's supposed
- 6:31Speaker 7: to protect their pumpkin. And then aep helps us pull
- 6:34Speaker 7: those pumpkins up in the bucket truck and drop them
- 6:37Speaker 7: down what amounts to about a two story drop, and
- 6:40Speaker 7: often the pumpkins splat and sometimes they stay whole. And
- 6:44Speaker 7: so then they get judged based on the design of
- 6:46Speaker 7: how safe they kept their pumpkin, and we give out
- 6:49Speaker 7: prizes every year.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Give me an example of something that was one of
- 6:53Speaker 3: the more unique things that you saw that the students
- 6:55Speaker 3: designed from a particular school. I mean, you said that
- 6:58Speaker 3: the whole idea is to keep the pumpkins from from
- 7:01Speaker 3: breaking apart when they when they hit the ground or
- 7:02Speaker 3: they hit the area. Give me something that was kind
- 7:04Speaker 3: of unique that you saw over the years.
- 7:07Speaker 7: Pool noodles was a pretty unique one. Say that's the
- 7:10Speaker 7: pumpkin and pool swimming pool noodles.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Swimming pool noodles, Okay, you know what those are? I
- 7:17Speaker 3: do not. I've never heard the term. Okay, and again
- 7:20Speaker 3: I'm not very worldly. What are swimming pool noodles?
- 7:23Speaker 7: When you go to the swimming pool with little kids,
- 7:26Speaker 7: you throw toys in at them. And one of the
- 7:29Speaker 7: toys that is sort of popular is a long styris olm,
- 7:34Speaker 7: I don't know, cylinder. It's called a pool noodle.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Pool noodle. Ryan, were you familiar with pool noodles? Okay,
- 7:41Speaker 3: of course, Ryan was?
- 7:42Speaker 4: All right.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Ryan's my go to anytime I want to feel dumb.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I just talked to Ryan because he knows everything. Okay,
- 7:46Speaker 3: pool noodles. Okay, all right.
- 7:48Speaker 7: So well this year, something that we're doing this a
- 7:51Speaker 7: little bit different is instead of a traditional trophy, there
- 7:54Speaker 7: will be a belt so the students who win the
- 7:57Speaker 7: grand prize it looks like a wrestling belt. And so
- 8:01Speaker 7: our sponsors have stepped up. Toyota, TC Energy, US Methanol, ACNS, VMM,
- 8:08Speaker 7: and Steven T. New Law have all signed up to
- 8:11Speaker 7: help support and we give cash prizes to the kids
- 8:14Speaker 7: who win. So it's really such a fun event.
- 8:16Speaker 3: We're talking to doctor Casey Sachs of Bridge Valley and
- 8:19Speaker 3: I will say that generally speaking, our man animal from
- 8:22Speaker 3: our sister station ninety eight to seven the month and
- 8:24Speaker 3: is usually out there as well. I think he dislikes
- 8:26Speaker 3: He just likes the ability to break things and then
- 8:29Speaker 3: to eat the leftover pumpkin. I'll be honest with you.
- 8:31Speaker 7: See, he's the best. He actually sees the event every year.
- 8:35Speaker 7: He's a lot of fun. The kids love him.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yeah, well he's because he's, you know, got the mind
- 8:38Speaker 3: of an eight year old. That's why. All right, you
- 8:42Speaker 3: got Family Fund. Speaking of kids, you got Family Fun
- 8:44Speaker 3: Night coming up? Talk about that.
- 8:46Speaker 7: We do. Family Fun Night is an annual event that
- 8:48Speaker 7: we put on in October. It's for Halloween. Families come.
- 8:52Speaker 7: It's designed for little kids to come and trigger treat
- 8:55Speaker 7: in the safe space. We do it in partnership with
- 8:58Speaker 7: WVU Medicine Thomas Hospital. So we all get together and
- 9:02Speaker 7: have groups of folks who have cars and trucks with
- 9:04Speaker 7: candy in the trunks, and little kids come in their
- 9:08Speaker 7: costumes and we have music and face painting and that
- 9:11Speaker 7: sort of activity. It's in the parking lot of Building
- 9:15Speaker 7: two thousand up at Bridge Valley at the Tech Park,
- 9:17Speaker 7: and we always have thousands of people show up. It's
- 9:20Speaker 7: a lot of fun.
- 9:20Speaker 3: I'm sure it is. And you're already thinking about the
- 9:23Speaker 3: spring semester.
- 9:24Speaker 7: There we are, can you believe it? And you know
- 9:28Speaker 7: the fast has already been launched for next school you're already,
- 9:31Speaker 7: So it's really thinking about the future. If people are
- 9:34Speaker 7: thinking they want to come to school in the spring,
- 9:36Speaker 7: our spring twenty twenty six. Applications are open now and
- 9:39Speaker 7: we'd love to have you.
- 9:40Speaker 3: All right before we let you go, I want to
- 9:42Speaker 3: ask you about AI because doctor sachs AI is all
- 9:46Speaker 3: the rage everywhere. It's being used in one form or
- 9:49Speaker 3: another in just about every business, and I mean we
- 9:56Speaker 3: use it to a certain extent here at the station.
- 9:58Speaker 3: How is higher education developing or how is it going
- 10:02Speaker 3: along with AI? Because there's good, just like with any innovation,
- 10:06Speaker 3: Doctor Saxon, you know there's good and there's bad. How
- 10:08Speaker 3: is how is how is higher education? And specifically Bridge Valley,
- 10:14Speaker 3: how are you working with AI?
- 10:16Speaker 7: So at Bridge Valley we're really workforce focused. I think
- 10:20Speaker 7: you and I have talked about this many times. That
- 10:22Speaker 7: we care very much what our local employers want, and
- 10:25Speaker 7: then we try and reverse design our classes and programs
- 10:28Speaker 7: so that we're meeting our employer needs. And so this
- 10:30Speaker 7: has been a fun challenge because employers all over the
- 10:33Speaker 7: valley are thinking about how to use AI and their businesses.
- 10:36Speaker 7: I was just talking to a position who's using AI
- 10:39Speaker 7: to help chart patient notes, and so the use cases
- 10:45Speaker 7: are infinite, really, and so what our faculty are trying
- 10:50Speaker 7: to do is pay attention to what's going on in
- 10:52Speaker 7: the businesses and then reverse design that into how they're
- 10:55Speaker 7: designing their classes, because we recognize that businesses are expecting
- 11:00Speaker 7: students to graduate from school and understand how to use
- 11:03Speaker 7: the technology. So it's been really quite fun to hear
- 11:07Speaker 7: what all the different possible use cases are across the valley.
- 11:11Speaker 3: I mean, you know, just like with any innovation, there's
- 11:15Speaker 3: good and bad. As you said, there's and there's always apprehension.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I don't know that bads are right word. Apprehension is
- 11:20Speaker 3: because people, you know, we if it's any kind of change.
- 11:22Speaker 3: But here's the thing, just like when computers become such
- 11:26Speaker 3: a part of our such a big part of our life,
- 11:28Speaker 3: going back, you know, forty you know, forty five in
- 11:30Speaker 3: the business world fifty years ago. You can't fight technology,
- 11:35Speaker 3: you know, and this but AI to me, and I'm
- 11:38Speaker 3: not as well versed of it on it as some
- 11:41Speaker 3: people are, but AI is is fundamentally changing everything. And
- 11:47Speaker 3: as you said, Bridge Valley really prides themselves on being
- 11:49Speaker 3: employer focused, and AI is going to be a part
- 11:53Speaker 3: of every every job out there somehow is going to
- 11:57Speaker 3: have AI in it.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Now.
- 11:58Speaker 3: They're not going to replace people, okay necessarily, but there
- 12:01Speaker 3: will be some sort of AI in the coming years
- 12:03Speaker 3: in every job field no matter what.
- 12:06Speaker 7: That's treasure. Are you using it yet?
- 12:09Speaker 3: I said? There are company is? How's that?
- 12:12Speaker 5: Ye?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Our company uses a lot. I am not because I
- 12:17Speaker 3: you know, I'm not. Maybe I need to do AI
- 12:19Speaker 3: to help me keep up with my notes for the show.
- 12:21Speaker 3: How's that?
- 12:22Speaker 7: It might be a real asset Dade?
- 12:25Speaker 3: All right, Doctor Casey Sackson, Bridge Valley, It's always a
- 12:27Speaker 3: pleasure to talk to you a couple of times. Well,
- 12:29Speaker 3: tell us the website where people can learn more about
- 12:31Speaker 3: what's going on.
- 12:33Speaker 7: It's Bridge Valley dot edu.
- 12:34Speaker 3: All right, looking forward to the pumpkin drop here in
- 12:37Speaker 3: a couple we'll probably have you on before then to
- 12:39Speaker 3: talk about that. Okay, great, thanks all right, Doctor Casey

- 13:18Speaker 3: appreciate that. I just I knew what they were. I
- 13:21Speaker 3: had just never heard them referred to as pool noodles.
- 13:24Speaker 3: When let me just say this, and Ryan, if you
- 13:26Speaker 3: need to cut me off here you can. When I
- 13:28Speaker 3: heard the term pool noodle, the first thing I thought

- 16:35Speaker 3: know what a pool noodle is, and it confidently states
- 16:37Speaker 3: AI will be in every job. How serious can we
- 16:42Speaker 3: take prediction from a guy who doesn't know what a
- 16:43Speaker 3: pool noodle is? I did not. I'd never heard it
- 16:46Speaker 3: called that. Okay, Doctor Sachs educated me on someday in
- 16:49Speaker 3: which you referred to a pool noodle. I had no
- 16:51Speaker 3: idea what it was. And then my listeners sent me
- 16:56Speaker 3: various pictures of pool noodles. I'd never heard them called that.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I don't know what I heard them called, but I
- 17:01Speaker 3: didn't know they were called. But I've learned something today.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I can learn just as easily as the listeners can.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Sheriff Joe Crawford stops by the studio, Okay, help me
- 17:12Speaker 3: out here. Am I the only person that didn't know
- 17:14Speaker 3: what a pool noodle was? Nope, I'll agree with you
- 17:17Speaker 3: on that one. So they got two of it.
- 17:22Speaker 8: Well, she was.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Talking about you. I don't know if you heard the interview,
- 17:25Speaker 3: but I talked to doctor k Cy Saxonbridge Valley and
- 17:27Speaker 3: the whole thing. They have their pumpkin drops it up, Sheriff,
- 17:29Speaker 3: and that's when they drop the things, and the students
- 17:32Speaker 3: are are tasked with designing things that will protect them
- 17:34Speaker 3: from breaking. And I asked her what the most unique
- 17:37Speaker 3: thing and she said that a student students a grade
- 17:40Speaker 3: school did some sort of a thing that they made
- 17:43Speaker 3: out of pool noodles. And I had to ask what
- 17:45Speaker 3: a pool noodle was.
- 17:46Speaker 4: It's styrofoam, so kind of and the only reason I
- 17:49Speaker 4: know that my daughter's told me.
- 17:50Speaker 3: So okay, Well that's the problem. I don't have kids,
- 17:54Speaker 3: don't have I don't have kids to tell me these days.
- 17:56Speaker 3: But Ryan showed me our producer and we got several
- 17:59Speaker 3: text of pool noodles here. So are you sure of
- 18:02Speaker 3: you doing all right?
- 18:02Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 18:03Speaker 4: Yeah, we've been good. It's been busy.
- 18:04Speaker 3: It's been busy. And I got to start off the
- 18:06Speaker 3: top was we have a story posted that on our
- 18:09Speaker 3: on our websites that there was an incident involving a cruiser.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Do you want to overnight? You want to explain what happened?
- 18:15Speaker 4: Thanks? Thanks for asking. Last night we had one of
- 18:18Speaker 4: our deputies working a crash on I seventy nine. And
- 18:22Speaker 4: while he's working a crash, of course, it was heavy
- 18:24Speaker 4: rain during the rain storm. Vehicle I guess lost control
- 18:29Speaker 4: and uh slid into our cruiser, the deputies cruiser that
- 18:34Speaker 4: was working the wreck. Thank god, there was no injuries.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Everybody was fine, you know, some damage to some vehicles,
- 18:40Speaker 4: but that can be repaired. So we're thankful that the
- 18:44Speaker 4: deputy's okay, and the other people that slid into him
- 18:49Speaker 4: as is okay as well.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Everybody's well, and it's just one of those things that
- 18:52Speaker 3: happens sometimes. I mentioned on the area yesterday about how
- 18:54Speaker 3: there are far more accidents in rain than there are
- 18:56Speaker 3: snow or ice or anything else because people people. My thought,
- 19:01Speaker 3: sheriff has always been people see snow and they see
- 19:04Speaker 3: ice and the okay, I gotta slow down, right, But
- 19:06Speaker 3: they don't do that in rain.
- 19:07Speaker 4: No, they just think it's invisible rain. It's not really there, right.
- 19:10Speaker 3: And the speed limit, you know, is to is designed
- 19:15Speaker 3: for perfect driving records. So if you're on the interstate
- 19:17Speaker 3: and you see seventy, that's when it's sonny in eighty
- 19:21Speaker 3: five degrees. Correct. Little common sense has got to come
- 19:23Speaker 3: in here, and honestly, that's what happened in this case.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I'm just saying that, you know, you got to you
- 19:27Speaker 3: got to adjust accordingly, and when you got rain and
- 19:29Speaker 3: you got the ponding of the of the liquids on
- 19:32Speaker 3: the road. Not a good idea to do the speed limit.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Maybe do a little bit to slow down. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 3: But the deputy was okay and the other people were
- 19:37Speaker 3: over and I let enough Davi.
- 19:38Speaker 4: This is our second one. We had one about a
- 19:40Speaker 4: month ago. Same It wasn't the same stretch of seventy nine,
- 19:43Speaker 4: but it was on seventy nine we had one, and
- 19:46Speaker 4: that cruiser was total so uh, but there was a
- 19:49Speaker 4: little bit more involved in that one. There was an
- 19:51Speaker 4: impair driver. So okay, that's the second one we've had,
- 19:53Speaker 4: probably within the last month.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Well, and I think it just goes to show you,
- 19:56Speaker 3: especially when you're on a sheriff on those kind of roads.
- 19:59Speaker 3: And you know, West Virginia's passed this move over law
- 20:02Speaker 3: that that basically says that if you are driving, get
- 20:05Speaker 3: in your mental car with me right now, listeners. If
- 20:07Speaker 3: you're driving down let's see the interstate, and that there
- 20:10Speaker 3: is a vehicle that's pulled over to the side, you
- 20:12Speaker 3: know it's in distress or whatever. That by law now
- 20:15Speaker 3: you have to move.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Over, absolutely absolutely, And you know it's common sense if
- 20:20Speaker 4: you think about it. It's common sense. I catch myself
- 20:22Speaker 4: every time i'm you know, I'm looking up the road
- 20:24Speaker 4: and if it's not even a cruiser, if it's a
- 20:26Speaker 4: d u H State worker or just a private company
- 20:29Speaker 4: contractor that's flagging, you know, just use some good adjudgment,
- 20:34Speaker 4: common sense and you just need to move over and
- 20:36Speaker 4: make sure because you never know what, uh, you know
- 20:39Speaker 4: what what may arise. You may have some may come
- 20:41Speaker 4: over in front of you, so you always got to
- 20:42Speaker 4: drive on the defensive.
- 20:43Speaker 3: We hear these stories all the time about people that
- 20:45Speaker 3: are that you know, tragically were killed or seriously injured
- 20:48Speaker 3: when when you know, they were tending to a vehicle
- 20:51Speaker 3: on the side of the road and somebody just didn't
- 20:53Speaker 3: seem what was the damage to the cruiser?
- 20:55Speaker 4: Uh, it was there was some damage, minimal moderate damage.
- 20:59Speaker 4: So we had to have it toad. So we'll look
- 21:01Speaker 4: at it and see, uh it should be able to
- 21:03Speaker 4: be repaired, I think.
- 21:04Speaker 3: So now we're talking to Sheriff Joe Crawford. The Dave
- 21:07Speaker 3: Island Show on five eighty Live is brought to you
- 21:08Speaker 3: in part by JUTE j o OT Security Systems of
- 21:11Speaker 3: tays Valley Visit Protective by JUTE dot com or followed
- 21:14Speaker 3: them on Facebook. Have Commission President of Ben Slango, Sheriff
- 21:17Speaker 3: on the show yesterday and we talked at a length
- 21:18Speaker 3: about this law enforcement training center. We have a story
- 21:21Speaker 3: posted about it this morning at wv Metronews dot com,
- 21:24Speaker 3: at WCHS network dot com. It's going to be voted
- 21:26Speaker 3: on tonight at the County Commission Media.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Your thoughts on this facility, well, first, first and foremost, Yeah, absolutely,
- 21:34Speaker 4: I want to thank the Commission. You know, they've been
- 21:37Speaker 4: so supportive of really the Sheriff's department and obviously that
- 21:42Speaker 4: we couldn't do no this without the support and the
- 21:44Speaker 4: financial backing of the County Commission. So we thank each
- 21:47Speaker 4: one of those. We've had conversations with each one of
- 21:51Speaker 4: them leading up to this, and we'll make a presentation tonight.
- 21:54Speaker 4: So our facility out at campvergilitate. A lot of people
- 21:59Speaker 4: don't know this, but we have over forty law enforcement
- 22:03Speaker 4: agencies that use that facility. It's to a point where
- 22:07Speaker 4: we have to have somebody control the scheduling, make sure
- 22:10Speaker 4: we have people available people there. We're also starting to
- 22:14Speaker 4: teach more classes with our in house instructors by offers
- 22:17Speaker 4: and training to other agencies as well as ours. We've
- 22:23Speaker 4: got some great people in our staff that's that's certified
- 22:26Speaker 4: to teach, and so we're starting off some of those classes.
- 22:29Speaker 4: So it's it's a hidden gym so to speak. Where
- 22:33Speaker 4: it's at. It's just in need of some repair. And
- 22:39Speaker 4: you know, with the vision that we had to to
- 22:41Speaker 4: move this project forward, we started looking and trying to
- 22:43Speaker 4: think of creative ways that we could make this come
- 22:46Speaker 4: to fruition and sit down with the Commission, and the
- 22:48Speaker 4: Commission was so receptive of it. So you know they've
- 22:53Speaker 4: they're all on board that we know of, and but
- 22:56Speaker 4: it's it's going to be stay of the art. You know,
- 22:58Speaker 4: when you got state agencies, federal agencies using our facility,
- 23:02Speaker 4: that says a lot about kind of trying to model
- 23:05Speaker 4: it after what they're doing in Pittsburgh. Right outside of Pittsburgh.
- 23:08Speaker 4: It's like a regional training facility. So we have military
- 23:11Speaker 4: assets that that use that range. All the federal agencies
- 23:15Speaker 4: use it for their qualifications in training, FBI, uh de
- 23:19Speaker 4: AH atf all the federal law enforcement agencies, state government,
- 23:25Speaker 4: and then we have, like I said, the military assets
- 23:27Speaker 4: that also use that So that range, UH if you
- 23:29Speaker 4: look at my phone. I get all those put on
- 23:33Speaker 4: my phone on my calendar, so it looks like a
- 23:36Speaker 4: kid with a calling book. But uh, we use that range.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Uh I want to say every week, but I guarantee
- 23:42Speaker 4: you three probably two to at least two to three
- 23:44Speaker 4: weeks out of the year we're using that facility.
- 23:46Speaker 3: And you talk about again, all of those other law
- 23:49Speaker 3: enforcement agencies you mentioned, FBI uses it, uh you know, UH,
- 23:53Speaker 3: the DEA, all these all these people come in and
- 23:55Speaker 3: use it. I mean, it's a it's a big thing
- 23:56Speaker 3: for for this area. But as far as you as
- 23:59Speaker 3: a law enforcement officer goes, And this is something I
- 24:01Speaker 3: really hadn't thought about when I was talking to Commissioner
- 24:02Speaker 3: Selango yesterday. It's going the more space you have, and
- 24:06Speaker 3: it's going to allow for enhanced training for everyday law
- 24:10Speaker 3: enforcement offers like like your Sheriff's department.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Absolutely new techniques, you know, the military uh uses, we've
- 24:18Speaker 4: had aviation assets that that that deploy uh out there
- 24:23Speaker 4: in their training scenarios. And another thing, our bomb squad
- 24:27Speaker 4: you know, State of West Virginia. We're really fortunate and
- 24:29Speaker 4: we're blessed here in Kanak County. We're one of two
- 24:32Speaker 4: bomb squads in the whole state. State Police has one
- 24:35Speaker 4: and then we have one. So we work joint jointly
- 24:38Speaker 4: together a lot. But that's the only two E O
- 24:41Speaker 4: D components in the state of West Virginia. So, uh,
- 24:45Speaker 4: the bomb squad uses that, our squad team uses that. Uh.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Then we do our departmental qualifications and departmental trainings. So
- 24:54Speaker 4: you can see the need and the necessity because at
- 24:57Speaker 4: the end of the day, it's an ever changing world.
- 24:58Speaker 4: We want to stay up to date the modern technology
- 25:01Speaker 4: and the best training that we can provide our people.
- 25:05Speaker 4: You know, I think Commissioner Schlango spoke about yesterday. We
- 25:08Speaker 4: have a place up there and we're incorporating in nowadays.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Who had ever thought that you would be discharging a
- 25:14Speaker 4: weapon from inside your vehicle when you're ambushed. So there's thinnings,
- 25:20Speaker 4: updated training like that that we've incorporated we're doing. Uh.
- 25:24Speaker 4: So we're always looking to do that, but this facility
- 25:26Speaker 4: will take it to the next level. It'll be one
- 25:30Speaker 4: hundred by two hundred. The new range will be like
- 25:34Speaker 4: one hundred by two hundreds what we're looking at. We're
- 25:37Speaker 4: still in the early stages, but then there'll be a
- 25:39Speaker 4: long gun range where we can incorporate our patrol rifles
- 25:42Speaker 4: in with that train as well. So we're very excited
- 25:48Speaker 4: to see where this is going and how it plays out,
- 25:51Speaker 4: because I think it's gonna be a tremendous asset not
- 25:53Speaker 4: only for the Sheriff's Department, but the other agencies that
- 25:56Speaker 4: use their facility well.
- 25:57Speaker 3: And you know, we're blessed, I think in West Virginia
- 26:00Speaker 3: because overall, and uh, Sheriff, you've been doing this for
- 26:03Speaker 3: a long time, you know. Over overall we have our
- 26:05Speaker 3: issues with crime in West Virginia like everywhere else does,
- 26:07Speaker 3: and we have them in Canowc County as well, But overall,
- 26:09Speaker 3: West Virginia's crime rate is low compared to the rest
- 26:12Speaker 3: of the rest of the nation. And we have not
- 26:14Speaker 3: seen the type of horrors that we see on television
- 26:17Speaker 3: playing out in some larger cities sometimes in some smaller areas.
- 26:21Speaker 3: We haven't seen those here. And you know, only I
- 26:23Speaker 3: don't want to be pessimistic, but you've got to be
- 26:26Speaker 3: vigilant about these things, and you got to you got
- 26:27Speaker 3: to train your your folks because you never know when
- 26:30Speaker 3: a situation that we've seen in some larger city or
- 26:34Speaker 3: as I said, in some rural areas could happen here
- 26:37Speaker 3: in West Virginia, I just cane On County, But in
- 26:39Speaker 3: other places absolutely.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I think you know the bar set. Uh. We have
- 26:43Speaker 4: to prepare ourselves to our people, because if not, we're failing.
- 26:46Speaker 4: If we're not training our employees and our deputies and
- 26:48Speaker 4: our law enforcement officers across the state and county, Uh,
- 26:52Speaker 4: with these types of events that are taking place, Uh,
- 26:56Speaker 4: then we're failing. We're not immune from that. Uh. We
- 27:00Speaker 4: hope and pray that it never happens, but I think
- 27:02Speaker 4: at the end of the day, you know, we just
- 27:03Speaker 4: this past summer. We do an active shooter training at
- 27:06Speaker 4: one of the high schools every year and we invite
- 27:09Speaker 4: local responders, police, fire, and the MS all come together
- 27:12Speaker 4: and we do that every year.
- 27:14Speaker 7: Uh.
- 27:14Speaker 4: That's just one event. But what we're seeing now in
- 27:18Speaker 4: today society is raising the bar for us, and shame
- 27:23Speaker 4: on us if we're not keeping up and raising our
- 27:26Speaker 4: our level of training uh to that level.
- 27:30Speaker 3: Talk can you share, Jill Crawford, I had a text
- 27:32Speaker 3: here for you. It says, for the sheriff, we usually
- 27:34Speaker 3: ask the shelter about abused animals. That's a secondent I
- 27:37Speaker 3: do every Friday shot, but never any info on abusers.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Do you know if there's any information on who the
- 27:42Speaker 3: evil person was that through innocent kittens off the Patrick
- 27:45Speaker 3: Street bridge several weeks ago. We need to be voices
- 27:47Speaker 3: for justice for innocent animals. If it happened here, that
- 27:49Speaker 3: may have been more of a City of Charles truston
- 27:52Speaker 3: police department as well. But but we do have an issue,
- 27:56Speaker 3: and I'm an animal lover. I'm sure you are too.
- 27:58Speaker 3: We have we have an issue with people abusing animals,
- 28:02Speaker 3: but that's not I mean, the law enforcement can only
- 28:04Speaker 3: do so much. You got to you need to go
- 28:06Speaker 3: down the street to the capitol, I mean and talk
- 28:08Speaker 3: to and talk to these folks to make it make
- 28:10Speaker 3: it a serious, serious crime.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think you know that that's a good point, Dave.
- 28:15Speaker 4: But I think at the end of the day, we
- 28:17Speaker 4: get there, we can put the case together. But there's
- 28:20Speaker 4: a lot of moving components with that. You know, you've
- 28:22Speaker 4: got law enforcement, there's one piece, but you have the
- 28:24Speaker 4: animal control piece, the shelter, and like you said, the
- 28:27Speaker 4: other most key component is we can only force what
- 28:31Speaker 4: laws are on the books to reach out to your
- 28:33Speaker 4: legislators to have them look at the codes that that
- 28:36Speaker 4: are currently existing and checking see if there's things that
- 28:40Speaker 4: need to be changed. Enhance penalties. I mean, that's something
- 28:44Speaker 4: that there. Again, it's always an ever changing yeah event.
- 28:49Speaker 4: So we encourage people to reach out to the legislators
- 28:53Speaker 4: and also see if we can tackle it from not
- 28:57Speaker 4: just an enforcement perspective, but from a legislative expect uh
- 29:01Speaker 4: expectation as well.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Before we let you go, I want to talk about
- 29:05Speaker 3: recruitment of law enforcement officers. We all across the nation
- 29:10Speaker 3: have seen the need for more and more people to
- 29:14Speaker 3: get involved in law enforcement. There's just not as many
- 29:16Speaker 3: people going into it anymore for one reason or another.
- 29:18Speaker 3: It's not a West Virginia issue. It's a it happens
- 29:21Speaker 3: across the country. I have frequently said, Joe that there's
- 29:26Speaker 3: you know, there's a lot of everybody thinks that their
- 29:28Speaker 3: profession is undervalued. But there's two professions I think that
- 29:30Speaker 3: really are and it as me as an individual, I'd
- 29:33Speaker 3: have to say, why do I want to do that?
- 29:35Speaker 3: And one of them is law enforcement and the other
- 29:37Speaker 3: is being a teacher, you know, who would at least respected,
- 29:40Speaker 3: you know, for one reason or another. But how are
- 29:43Speaker 3: the numbers looking at Kanawha County and what can we
- 29:44Speaker 3: do to try to get more people to go into
- 29:46Speaker 3: law enforcement because I know you guys, you guys need
- 29:48Speaker 3: to hire, as does every department.
- 29:50Speaker 4: Absolutely and you know you bringing us on the show
- 29:53Speaker 4: and talking about you know, I can't say enough about
- 29:56Speaker 4: what you all do to help us. But you know,
- 29:58Speaker 4: recruiting attention is probably the top priority of every law
- 30:01Speaker 4: enforcement agency, not not just in West Virginia kanaw Counties,
- 30:05Speaker 4: it's nationwide. Everybody's dealing with the saint that that same issue.
- 30:09Speaker 10: UH.
- 30:09Speaker 4: And there again, I want to take my hat off
- 30:12Speaker 4: to the County Commission. You know, last month we just
- 30:15Speaker 4: received our deputies foreign members received an eight percent pay increase,
- 30:20Speaker 4: which you know, we've always been kind of towards the top, uh,
- 30:23Speaker 4: and we've prided ourselves on that competitive salary and benefits
- 30:27Speaker 4: and training and equipment. UH, and that's continuing. So that
- 30:32Speaker 4: that eight percent increase took us back to where we
- 30:35Speaker 4: needed to be and couldn't have done without the Commission
- 30:38Speaker 4: realizing that and knowing that how important that was for
- 30:41Speaker 4: us to recruit and retain. So we're right there. There
- 30:46Speaker 4: are some other incentives. You know, our benefit packages is
- 30:51Speaker 4: really really good with hospitalization, retirement and so forth. But
- 30:56Speaker 4: we're giving another test. This is the third test that
- 30:59Speaker 4: we've given this year. Back in the day, and I
- 31:02Speaker 4: won't go back too for but back in the day,
- 31:04Speaker 4: when I started back in the eighties, we'd give one
- 31:08Speaker 4: test that was nineteen eight, okay, sure clarify that nineteen eights.
- 31:12Speaker 4: We'd give one test and that test would last for
- 31:14Speaker 4: two years, and you'd have three hundred people, all right,
- 31:16Speaker 4: so you understand the magnitude of what we're seeing. Now
- 31:19Speaker 4: this last test we just give. We had one hundred applications,
- 31:23Speaker 4: one hundred applicants filed applications. Thirty showed up for the
- 31:28Speaker 4: test date. Out of that thirty Levin felled the physical
- 31:33Speaker 4: agility test, So that took us to nineteen. And then
- 31:36Speaker 4: we give the written tests the same day. We do
- 31:38Speaker 4: that testing all on the same day so we can
- 31:41Speaker 4: not have to bring them back. So that three didn't
- 31:45Speaker 4: pass that, so that took us to sixteen. Then you
- 31:46Speaker 4: started into the background phase and the polygraph, so you know,

- 32:26Speaker 4: We work not only just with us, but the state
- 32:28Speaker 4: police and other municipal agencies uh as well. So we're
- 32:33Speaker 4: all fighting the same battle. And probably you know I've
- 32:36Speaker 4: said this time and time again day that we uh,
- 32:39Speaker 4: we're all trying to compete and recruit the same people.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Right yeah, And and I mean again these when I

- 36:39Speaker 3: want to spoil it a little bit, but coming up
- 36:41Speaker 3: tomorrow morning on the show, they have gifted me with
- 36:44Speaker 3: something to give away on the air tomorrow morning. And
- 36:48Speaker 3: let me just say, if you're a WVU football fan,
- 36:50Speaker 3: you're gonna want to know about this and be listening
- 36:53Speaker 3: at some point between nine to ten tomorrow morning, because
- 36:55Speaker 3: those folks really came through that contact me yesterday and
- 36:57Speaker 3: so we'd like to give something away to your listeners.
- 37:00Speaker 3: So tomorrow morning, if you're a Mountaineer fan, you want
- 37:02Speaker 3: to be listening sometime between nine and ten because I
- 37:04Speaker 3: got a great giveaway coming up courtesy of the folks
- 37:07Speaker 3: at Pinnacle. We had a quick text and I'm going
- 37:09Speaker 3: to get to the mayor. Somebody was asking about the
- 37:12Speaker 3: pay raise for county employees in Kanawa County and the
- 37:15Speaker 3: sheriff Crawford had mentioned that there was a raise for
- 37:19Speaker 3: deputies and they wanted to know what that percentage was
- 37:23Speaker 3: for all employees or just deputies, and so basically what
- 37:27Speaker 3: it is, and sorry I didn't the sheriff had already
- 37:30Speaker 3: left before I got to read the text. It's a
- 37:31Speaker 3: six percent raise for employees, eight percent to deputies. So yeah,
- 37:35Speaker 3: everybody is from what I understand there and talking to
- 37:38Speaker 3: him off the air and doing a little research, everybody
- 37:40Speaker 3: got that race. Welcome into the show now, Hurricane Mayor
- 37:43Speaker 3: Scott Edwards? How you doing, my friend, Mayor Edwards? Where
- 37:51Speaker 3: are you sir?
- 37:54Speaker 11: What do you mean? Where say?
- 37:56Speaker 3: I could barely hear you?
- 37:59Speaker 11: How about now?
- 38:00Speaker 3: It sounds like you're in a honkey talk. You got
- 38:02Speaker 3: music on the background. What are you doing?
- 38:05Speaker 11: Well, that's leading into our conversation.
- 38:07Speaker 3: I got a little background, a little background on a
- 38:10Speaker 3: good job. They're well played, sheriff. All right, So the
- 38:12Speaker 3: announcement has been made. We've got a big entertainment venue
- 38:16Speaker 3: that is coming to the city of Hurrican. Talk about it.
- 38:19Speaker 11: Yes, we have an entertainment venue downtown Hurricane, the old
- 38:22Speaker 11: fire Department. We're converting part of that into an outdoor
- 38:26Speaker 11: indoor entertainment venue where folks can come to downtown Hurricane
- 38:32Speaker 11: can listen to maybe a country band, maybe a bluegrass,
- 38:37Speaker 11: maybe a gospel you know, a gospel group comes and
- 38:41Speaker 11: people can hang out underneath to avoid any weather or sun,
- 38:45Speaker 11: or hang out outside in the parking lot. Maybe there'll
- 38:47Speaker 11: be a food truck. Maybe they go across the street
- 38:50Speaker 11: grab a pizza from balnapp or walk down a block
- 38:53Speaker 11: and grab some food from Sergio's, or shop a little
- 38:56Speaker 11: on main Street. But it's going to be awesome. But
- 38:58Speaker 11: we're really looking for for somebody to participate in our
- 39:02Speaker 11: first karaoke event, and that's that's why we were playing
- 39:04Speaker 11: that music, which you you've already volunteered via Texas Morning.
- 39:09Speaker 11: You are going to be our first person to karaoke
- 39:11Speaker 11: in downtown Hurricane and it's a I know you love Skinnered,
- 39:15Speaker 11: Is that correct?
- 39:16Speaker 3: It's the greatest band ever.
- 39:18Speaker 11: Right right, So you're going you are going to to karaoke?
- 39:22Speaker 11: Uh uh and we can't wait. You already get me
- 39:24Speaker 11: your word.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you what my dad used to
- 39:27Speaker 3: say about my singing. And I'm the only one in
- 39:29Speaker 3: my family that has no musical ability. Mayor my dad
- 39:31Speaker 3: was a gospel singer or a published songwriter. My sister
- 39:34Speaker 3: can sing. My dad would say that boy sings in
- 39:37Speaker 3: the key of L, and then you'd say L, and
- 39:39Speaker 3: then he would say it rough ast to go, Well,
- 39:40Speaker 3: it sounds like L. And you just got to say
- 39:43Speaker 3: that over and over in your head.
- 39:44Speaker 11: And you'll get I've already I've already done that. But
- 39:47Speaker 11: you have committed to me via text and you will
- 39:49Speaker 11: be there, and I will let you know. We'll schedule
- 39:51Speaker 11: around your schedule, all.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Right, all right, I'll see what I can do.
- 39:54Speaker 11: And it is, it is. It is going to be
- 39:55Speaker 11: a really nice venue to Peter's in it have tables,
- 40:00Speaker 11: have chairs, you can bring your uh you know, bring
- 40:02Speaker 11: your back chairs and just hang out the big Really
- 40:06Speaker 11: people on Hurricane are this fellowship and just having something
- 40:10Speaker 11: to do on Frida here Saturday night. And I already
- 40:12Speaker 11: had bands contact me. I've had another one this morning
- 40:15Speaker 11: contact me via Facebook messenger and they said, please keep
- 40:19Speaker 11: me in mind. We got the actually the message said,
- 40:21Speaker 11: we got the boys back together. We were in a
- 40:23Speaker 11: band for a long time. We got the boys back together,
- 40:25Speaker 11: and we've been practicing. We would love to love to
- 40:28Speaker 11: show off who we are.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Well, how did a saw thing come about? Marmon? Who's
- 40:32Speaker 3: I mean? Where did this idea come from? And you
- 40:33Speaker 3: mentioned it's going to be in the hurricane the old
- 40:36Speaker 3: Hurricane Fire Department building. How did this whole idea come about?
- 40:40Speaker 11: Well, it was brought up Hurrikan Construction Services. That's our
- 40:45Speaker 11: team of people that do a lot in Hurricane. Uh.
- 40:47Speaker 11: They brought up some ideas and and then I started
- 40:50Speaker 11: talking to people in town, you know, started talking to
- 40:53Speaker 11: the folks and said, hey, this idea has come up.
- 40:56Speaker 11: We have a really good building and it needs something,
- 41:00Speaker 11: you know, it needs it needs to be doing something
- 41:02Speaker 11: for Hurricane. So as I started talking to people, nobody
- 41:06Speaker 11: said no. You know, the community, the people that I've
- 41:09Speaker 11: talked to, everybody thought it was a great idea because
- 41:12Speaker 11: it can bring people together, bring people to Main Street
- 41:16Speaker 11: and it will be a vast array of bands. You know,
- 41:19Speaker 11: think about a gospel band on a Friday night, Saturday night,
- 41:22Speaker 11: a country band maybe the next Friday night of bluegrass
- 41:25Speaker 11: band and these this local talent can can show off
- 41:29Speaker 11: what they do, and that's that's what's really important. But
- 41:32Speaker 11: driving people to Main Street and Fellowship is what it's
- 41:35Speaker 11: all about.
- 41:36Speaker 3: And uh so what else will go along with that?
- 41:38Speaker 3: Because I mean you mentioned maybe a food truck and
- 41:41Speaker 3: uh and some other things. What it's We're not going
- 41:44Speaker 3: to hold you to it because plans change. But what
- 41:45Speaker 3: are some of the other ideas that you'd like to
- 41:48Speaker 3: see with this entertainment center.
- 41:50Speaker 11: You know, maybe a local dance studio wants to wants
- 41:54Speaker 11: to show off to the not really show off, but
- 41:57Speaker 11: show the public what they do. Uh, that would be
- 41:59Speaker 11: great for the You know, we've got a couple of
- 42:01Speaker 11: awesome dance studios right in Hurricane and they could they
- 42:04Speaker 11: could use it and show the community what, you know,
- 42:06Speaker 11: what they do. You on stage doing stand up comedy,
- 42:10Speaker 11: I've really thought, We've had thought a lot about that.
- 42:13Speaker 11: Will dedicate an hour just to you.
- 42:14Speaker 3: Well now, now listen, I have done some stand up comedy, okay,
- 42:18Speaker 3: but I'm not No, I'm just a guy that warms
- 42:21Speaker 3: up the crowd. I can hook you up with people
- 42:23Speaker 3: like Brian Thompson BT and and people like that. We
- 42:26Speaker 3: got a lot of them here from from Hurricane. Uh, well,
- 42:29Speaker 3: we'll get all those folks there and we'll make that happened.
- 42:32Speaker 4: That would be great.
- 42:33Speaker 11: And even magicians on stage, yeah, I have a kid,
- 42:36Speaker 11: not have some have some magic and some giveaways and
- 42:39Speaker 11: that type of thing. Just just be a really fun event.
- 42:41Speaker 11: And again, plans will change, will add to this, but
- 42:44Speaker 11: it should be really really good for downtown Hurricane and
- 42:47Speaker 11: for really everybody Tupton County and all around to come
- 42:49Speaker 11: over and fellowship with What is the timeline?
- 42:51Speaker 3: Approximately? Things change, we know, but I mean when when
- 42:54Speaker 3: would you ideally like to see this thing up and
- 42:56Speaker 3: running by spring? So what you said, Mayor, you just
- 43:04Speaker 3: take a piece during the winter, all right? All right,
- 43:06Speaker 3: I'm sorry you cut out a little bit. So you
- 43:07Speaker 3: said spring?
- 43:08Speaker 11: Right? Oh, yes, there a spring?
- 43:10Speaker 3: All right?
- 43:11Speaker 11: Uh.
- 43:11Speaker 3: I got a question here for you, Mayor, because I
- 43:13Speaker 3: know you're always good, but somebody wanted to know if
- 43:15Speaker 3: you and if you can't comment on that's fine. Somebody
- 43:17Speaker 3: text has shown one wanted to know what was being
- 43:19Speaker 3: put in down. Putting in a Hurricane Creek road is
- 43:23Speaker 3: what it says. The exact text is asked, Scott, what
- 43:25Speaker 3: is being put in down Hurricane Creek Road.
- 43:29Speaker 11: Okay, so just just past the entrance to Walmart, some
- 43:34Speaker 11: land has been purchased and the land is being wearied
- 43:36Speaker 11: right now. And that's the only permit that the company
- 43:38Speaker 11: has pulled is to clear land. It looks like it's
- 43:41Speaker 11: going to be three to four acres of flat cleared land.
- 43:44Speaker 11: But we don't know yet, right Okay, actually I really
- 43:47Speaker 11: don't know.
- 43:48Speaker 3: All right, that's not politically something.
- 43:50Speaker 11: There will be something. There will be something going in
- 43:52Speaker 11: fairly soon. I have a feeling because it's it's wonderful land.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Here's a text for you, mayor since somebody says, consider
- 43:58Speaker 3: a kind of a masked singer to karaoke out at
- 44:01Speaker 3: that facility. That would be fun. I could see that
- 44:04Speaker 3: working because you get people that are well known in
- 44:07Speaker 3: the community, you put a mask on, having them go
- 44:08Speaker 3: out there and have people try to guess who they are.
- 44:10Speaker 3: How's that?
- 44:12Speaker 11: I love it? I love it. It would work for you. You know,
- 44:14Speaker 11: you've got the voice for in the face, for red face.
- 44:17Speaker 11: I've never heard that we could mask you right up.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I'm just thinking about how much fun
- 44:21Speaker 3: that could be. You know, you get you get some
- 44:24Speaker 3: people from like you know, I'm thinking County Commission. Uh,
- 44:28Speaker 3: you know some We'll get our friend Ashley from the
- 44:30Speaker 3: Chamber of Commerce, or Kelly Steele or somebody like that.
- 44:33Speaker 3: Uh uh, we could get Zach Creed because everybody would
- 44:36Speaker 3: be able to know Zach Creed right away. I'm just
- 44:38Speaker 3: talking about some well known Putnam Countians right now.
- 44:40Speaker 11: So I will say, right now, we will do that,
- 44:42Speaker 11: and that will be on a Friday or Saturday night
- 44:44Speaker 11: in the future, and we will put that on our
- 44:46Speaker 11: schedule and we will do that, and I will let
- 44:48Speaker 11: you help me coordinate the people.
- 44:50Speaker 3: All right, Can you handle one more text before I
- 44:52Speaker 3: let you go. Somebody wanted to know about paving on
- 44:54Speaker 3: Route sixty. I know it's out of your wheelhouse, but
- 44:55Speaker 3: do you have any updates on that?
- 44:58Speaker 7: I do not.
- 44:58Speaker 11: That's all Department of Highway and we work at the
- 45:00Speaker 11: Department Highways, but I do not have a date on that.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Mary. It's always a pleasure to have you on the show.
- 45:06Speaker 3: And I'm already warming up. Just so you know, my
- 45:08Speaker 3: go to karaoke is skinnered. Give me three steps, so
- 45:12Speaker 3: I will do that. I'll do give me three steps.
- 45:14Speaker 3: How's that?
- 45:15Speaker 11: Okay, it's on. It's a deal.
- 45:18Speaker 3: Mayor Scott Edwards appreciate you being here. We'll talk Soonboddy
- 45:20Speaker 3: thinks a lot. Thanks eight minutes away from ten. Well,
- 45:23Speaker 3: I didn't say I did it well. But the whole
- 45:25Speaker 3: idea behind karaoke is it's not supposed to be good,
- 45:28Speaker 3: so's supposed to be fun. I love that idea. From
- 45:30Speaker 3: a texture though. You get some well known people, you
- 45:33Speaker 3: mask them up and you have them karaoke and then
- 45:35Speaker 3: have people guess who they are. I think it'd be
- 45:37Speaker 3: a great fundraiser if you wanted to guess, to participate
- 45:40Speaker 3: and pay ten dollars. It goes to, you know, some
- 45:42Speaker 3: sort of a shelter, an animal shelter. My mind always
- 45:45Speaker 3: goes there or something like that. I think it'd be
- 45:48Speaker 3: a great idea. Okay, we're overdue for a break. The

- 46:54Speaker 10: built their business the old fashioned way by making friends.
- 46:57Speaker 10: There are no gimmicker games in Walker, just honest fear deals,
- 47:01Speaker 10: and the process at Walker is remarkably simple. They help
- 47:05Speaker 10: you find a vehicle that you love and a deal
- 47:07Speaker 10: that makes you smile and don't forget. Walker is still
- 47:10Speaker 10: buying cars too.
- 47:11Speaker 11: Now.

- 47:16Speaker 10: buy somewhere else.
- 47:17Speaker 3: But why would you?
- 47:18Speaker 10: You know, It's good to know that in a world
- 47:20Speaker 10: full of constant change, there are some things that remain
- 47:23Speaker 10: consistent and that some car dealers still believe in treating
- 47:26Speaker 10: you like a friend with a smile and a handshakee
- 47:29Speaker 10: head to Walker Chevrolet and Nitro in the shadow of

- 48:31Speaker 3: including the death penalty for anyone who would go into
- 48:33Speaker 3: our schools and harm students, teachers, administrators, and staff period.
- 48:37Speaker 3: Tex says Dave. We are blessed to have Mayor Scott
- 48:40Speaker 3: Edwards as our mayor in Hurricane Thank you, Texa, Dave,
- 48:42Speaker 3: what about micro wrestling, Well, you know, it sounds to
- 48:45Speaker 3: me like the Mayor's up to up for about anything.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Tex says Dave. Digital speed limit signs on all of
- 48:51Speaker 3: our West Virginia interstates would save lives. We know where
- 48:53Speaker 3: the accident prone areas are and could lower speed limits
- 48:56Speaker 3: during bad weather. It's been discussed for years. I suppose
- 48:58Speaker 3: West Virginia can't afford it. I'm not opposed to it,
- 49:01Speaker 3: but I don't know how many people are going to
- 49:02Speaker 3: pay attention to it. I mean, to be honest with you,
- 49:04Speaker 3: it's a great idea, but I mean, you know, people
- 49:07Speaker 3: don't pay attention to the other lines or the other
- 49:09Speaker 3: signs I should say, So, I don't know why they
- 49:10Speaker 3: would pay attention to those. I mean, look, I had
- 49:13Speaker 3: to run an errand for a family member to Barbersville
- 49:18Speaker 3: last week, and I had drop someone off, and I
- 49:22Speaker 3: was on my way back, and I was on sixty
- 49:23Speaker 3: four getting on the interstate from around Barbersville and coming
- 49:27Speaker 3: back toward Hurricane and I'm in the construction zone and
- 49:30Speaker 3: I am doing fifty five miles an hour and I've
- 49:33Speaker 3: got and I think I'm going to get ran over
- 49:35Speaker 3: in a construction zone because the speed limit is fifty
- 49:37Speaker 3: five miles an hour, that particular stretch could have actually
- 49:40Speaker 3: been a little bit lower than that. And I'm doing
- 49:42Speaker 3: you know, I'm doing the speed limit fifty five in
- 49:45Speaker 3: the construction zone, and I mean I am getting I
- 49:49Speaker 3: practically got ran over. So I don't know how you
- 49:53Speaker 3: fix that. I mean, signs will I don't know what
- 49:56Speaker 3: signs will do any good to be honest with you.

- 50:31Speaker 3: Elite Wrestling AEW is coming to the Martiall Health Network
- 50:35Speaker 3: Arena in Huntington Saturday night. One of the guys participating,
- 50:38Speaker 3: he's one of the hottest guys out there in the
- 50:40Speaker 3: business right now. His name is Kyle Fletcher, and he's
- 50:43Speaker 3: actually going to stop by the studio tomorrow. And the
- 50:45Speaker 3: only thing I can say is is again, I'm an
- 50:47Speaker 3: old school wrestling guy, spent a lot of years in
- 50:49Speaker 3: the business. I don't really follow it as much now.
- 50:54Speaker 3: I rely on guys like Matt Sutton and Adam Harrison,
- 50:56Speaker 3: Tim Brady to tell me what's going on. This guy
- 50:59Speaker 3: is a big, big deal and he's going to be
- 51:01Speaker 3: in studio whether it's tomorrow prior. Of course, the show
- 51:04Speaker 3: is Saturday night in Huntington. And I will say this,
- 51:08Speaker 3: the girls out front were very excited that Kyle Fletcher's
- 51:11Speaker 3: coming to the studio tomorrow. That's all I got to
- 51:13Speaker 3: say about that. They were very we were very excited
- 51:18Speaker 3: about that. Going back to the entertainment venue in Hurricane,
- 51:21Speaker 3: text has also had throw back an eighties style roller
- 51:24Speaker 3: skating rink, all skates and couple skates. Today's kids just
- 51:28Speaker 3: don't know DJ Meadows is here. So if you miss
- 51:33Speaker 3: the interview, because I know you're busily prepared for the show,
- 51:35Speaker 3: we're getting it big and you live in Putnam County
- 51:37Speaker 3: as well. We're getting a big entertainment venue really coming
- 51:40Speaker 3: to downtown Hurricane. I just had Mayor Scott Edwards on
- 51:42Speaker 3: talking about multi level type deal concerts and this thing,
- 51:46Speaker 3: and the idea was thrown out there. I texted the
- 51:49Speaker 3: mayor this morning and I said, would you be willing
- 51:51Speaker 3: to come on the show. It's short notice. He said,
- 51:52Speaker 3: only if you agree to do karaoke, So they're doing
- 51:55Speaker 3: a high end karaoke there too, And I've agreed. Is
- 51:58Speaker 3: this thing a done deal? It's going to happen. Yeah, yeah,
- 52:00Speaker 3: it'll open in spring. Oh wow, that's I mean, anytime
- 52:04Speaker 3: you deal with winter and supply chain, that's the best
- 52:06Speaker 3: case scenario. I've already agreed to do Gimme three Steps,
- 52:08Speaker 3: which is my go to skinnered song. So if I
- 52:11Speaker 3: am willing to do that, Meadows, don't you step up
- 52:13Speaker 3: with me?
- 52:14Speaker 4: Oh buddy, I'll do karaoke.
- 52:15Speaker 3: That's okay. What would your song be? Oh geez, maybe
- 52:18Speaker 3: I'll do some Dean Martin kicking the head. Yeah, a
- 52:22Speaker 3: little Sinatra Dean Martin or Sinatra Dean mart Yeah, kind
- 52:25Speaker 3: of thing. All right, quickly, what's on the show today?
- 52:27Speaker 3: I just want to go around in circles with my
- 52:29Speaker 3: roller skates. You let's leave it there. How's that because
- 52:33Speaker 3: sometimes sometimes on your show, on my show, we do
- 52:35Speaker 3: frequently go around a circus. Meadows and Wilson coming up
- 52:39Speaker 3: with talk Line. I'll be back later today with Metro News,
- 52:41Speaker 3: Midday with thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor Manda Baron,
