- 1:03Well, now, folks, it's time for today's episode of Nick Harter.
- 1:07A Cat Brings death? But the matter? What is this another case
- 1:23for Nick Carter, Master Detective. Yes, it's another case for that most
- 1:36famous of all manhunters. The detective was ability at solving crime is unequaled in
- 1:40the history of detective fiction. Nick Cutter, Master Detective. The Night's Curious
- 1:46Adventure, A cat Brings Death for Nick Cotter and the mystery of the missing
- 1:53persian, all the confounded dog gun things to have. You don't seem very
- 2:04happy to see me this morning. I ain't something I've done or just things
- 2:07in general, things in particular. Here's your glass of water? All right?
- 2:12What do you get it so cold for? Is alright? All right?
- 2:15Get out? Get out? Would I put them pills? Taking your
- 2:19items recommenly, I see excellent idea for anyone in plan to be nervous.
- 2:23Vitamin's nothing, them's asked for tablets for headaches. But Riley, do you
- 2:29mind if I sit down this lovely morning? Get down, but don't bother
- 2:31me. I've got too many troubles of my own to be bothered with yours.
- 2:35But I have no troubles with tenant. I feel freeze about. You.
- 2:38Would care to tell old Uncle Nick with the trouble, in case you're
- 2:42interested, Mister Nicholas, kind of shut up if you want to hear this
- 2:46sorry plea, In case you're interested. I just had to release Colley Greer
- 2:50from his temporary residence in my jail. I couldn't get enough on him to
- 2:53hold him for a jury, in spite of the fact that every cup in
- 2:57town knows he's guilty, and we've been trailing his hidekicks sabing for more than
- 3:00a week's teddy without a sign of results. The same with that blonde.
- 3:05What do you call a riba dows? You're right back where he started.
- 3:08Three smooth jobs pulled this month without a smell of a clue, three big
- 3:14jewel robberies, and my little boy scouts are still out chasing rainbows. You
- 3:19know, Raley, I haven't been following this case very closely, but I
- 3:23have a hunch. Hunch you can't hold a crook and a hunch there's been
- 3:28enough high class Parker's lifted around here in the last thirty days. Just tuck
- 3:31a pawn shop and we can't put a finger on nobody. Now, you
- 3:35got a hunch you can't. I know you can't hold a crook. On
- 3:38the hunch you gotta pin something and I'm gonna make it stick. I've heard
- 3:43you say that before. That's true, Why Nick, right, Lieutenant Riley,
- 3:49Police Headquarters Commissioner. Oh yes, yes, yes, Sir, Commissionery.
- 3:53Hello. OK. If somebody doesn't turn up something on these duel robberies
- 3:55pretty quick, now, there's gonna be some changes around here. We've been
- 3:59working hard, Commissioner, and I ain'd hardly been home long enough to eat
- 4:02her. That's a fact. So trouble with you. Rally in your head,
- 4:05not in your stomach. Maybe we need some new blood in that department.
- 4:09Now, Commissioner, we can't find clues, whether it ain't none to
- 4:12find. We're doing all we can, so you'll have to know better.
- 4:15I expect results within forty eight hours. Goodbye, goodbye, Commissioners. I
- 4:23take it that was the commissioner, you take it. Oh look, Nick,
- 4:28couldn't you go someplace else for a while? By Riley, your lack
- 4:30of hospitality amazes me. I only came down. Yeah, yeah, the
- 4:34buzzer looks at all. Right, Well, what is it now? More
- 4:38trouble. There's a woman out here demanded to see you, and I mean
- 4:41demand. I ain't receiving visitors today. It'd better be. It's Missus Dudley
- 4:46Banks herself, Missus Dudley Banks, you know, Commissioner's favorite aunt. I
- 4:51know who she is. What does she want some more contributions for that?
- 4:56She's been robbed, lieutenant robbed? Oh don't tell me we got another case
- 5:01to break. I can't stand much more than all right, tenderly, And
- 5:05you know, Riley, I remember reading recently that Missus Dudley Banks had the
- 5:09finest collection of ruby is in the country. Or nonick, not rubies.
- 5:14You don't suppose, Missus Dudley Banks. Lieutenant Riley, Lieutenant Riley. Now
- 5:19I have come to you personally to report a most distressing thing. I've been
- 5:25robbed in broad daylight and under the most distressing circumstances. Youbbed, I most
- 5:30certainly have, and I shall expect you to take immediate action. You can
- 5:34depend on us, Missus Dudley Banks. You know just what was the nature
- 5:39of your loss? My cat? Cat? You said, your cat?
- 5:44Precisely? My cat a lemon colored Persian of the female sex. She's known
- 5:48as Fluffy. She disappeared from my upstairs living room sometime this morning. Will.
- 5:55Isn't it just possible that she's the cat just straight off the premises?
- 6:00Like Fluffy? What stolen of that? I am certain she's not given to
- 6:03wandering away, is of course, ma'am? He Will? What do you
- 6:08expect me to do? Why do you suppose I came down here for sympathy.
- 6:14I expect you to recover the animal, apprehend the criminal and punishing.
- 6:18Oh sure, sure, I should be home after four o'clock. At that
- 6:23time you will be at liberty to inspect the premises. You have my address
- 6:27of course, good day. Hm hmmm mm hmmm, a persian cat.
- 6:39I'm all the confounded number, Riley. Riley, think think how lucky you
- 6:44are that it wasn't her Ruby's lucky you call it? Well, Lieutenant,
- 6:47what do you want to do about this? Pardon my pardon, catastrophe?
- 6:53Do? But it is if I didn't have enough troubles now that old clock,
- 6:57maybe the commissioner's free times. But here she thinks I'm going to assign
- 7:00anybody to round up a tray cat. She's a little Riley. This case
- 7:05interests me? What? Yes? Why? Case like this might develop some
- 7:10startling angles before we get through with it. Oh, Nick, quit your
- 7:14kidden No, No really, Riley, I'm serious. This, I feel
- 7:16sure is a case worthy of my talents. There'll be a pleasure for me
- 7:20to turn from the pursuit of murderers and other such small time criminals to the
- 7:24really important work of discovering who walked off with a lovely feline pet of Missus
- 7:28Dudley Banks. Are you kidding? Nick? Definitely not, Riley. At
- 7:32four o'clock this afternoon, I shall ring Missus Dudley Bank's bell, wipe my
- 7:36feet on a door, mat, hand my hat to the butler and see
- 7:40what I can uncover about the mystery of the missing persian. So long,
- 7:44Lieutenant. Yes, sir, I'm from police headquarters. Lieutenant Riley sent me
- 8:09to investigate the loss of Missus Dudley Banks cat. Oh, yes, sir,
- 8:15Missus Dudley Banks is expecting you. Come in. Please thank you this
- 8:20way please. Missus Dudley Banks is in her sitting room. Thank you.
- 8:28A police person, madam, A police person, Yes, madam, about
- 8:33the cat, madam? Oh, yes, of course, come in.
- 8:37That would be all Carrington. Very good, madam. My name is Carter.
- 8:41Missus Dudley Banks. Lieutenant Riley sent me here to see if I can
- 8:45find your cat, to see if you can find her. You must find
- 8:48her, That's what I mean, madam. Now, will you please tell
- 8:52me what you know about her disappearance. She's very little to tell. I
- 8:54was obliged to be absent from the house this morning for about two hours.
- 8:58I left my poor fluffy right here in her own little basket. Hit that
- 9:03one there with the pink ribbons on it? Yes? Oh, who was
- 9:07here in the house while you were gone? My butler and my maid were
- 9:11both here but neither of them paid the slightest attention to poor Fluffy. It
- 9:15was not until I myself returned at noon that she was missed. She was
- 9:18a lemon yellow colored Persian I believe, yes, yes, a beautiful little
- 9:22creature. Here. Let me show you her picture. Oh, I don't
- 9:24think that'll be necessary, missus, do win bank? Not necessary? That's
- 9:28absurd. Surely you can find her more easily when you know what she looks
- 9:31like. Very well, madam, if you insist, of course I insist
- 9:37here now this one was taken about two months ago. It's not a very
- 9:41good picture because this stupid photographer sent his assistant instead of coming himself. Oh,
- 9:48I see hall A very pretty cat, isn't it she she is?
- 9:54That picture doesn't do her justice. Now what happened when he discovered she was
- 9:58missing? I was hearted? No, I mean, did you look for
- 10:03her? What silly question? Of course we'll look for her. Who searched
- 10:07the whole house thoroughly? But Fluffy was gone? Has she ever run away
- 10:11before? I should say not? She adored me. I see, madam,
- 10:16this is a very baffling case. There are a number of angles.
- 10:20Are you sure nothing else is missing? Beside the cat. Nothing. We
- 10:24checked everything and there were no visitors this morning while you were out, No
- 10:26one, No one except the young woman from the ladies auxiliary of course.
- 10:31Ah what did she come here for? Every Wednesday afternoon, my friends and
- 10:35I meet here to roll bandages, and this young woman comes the day before
- 10:41to bring us the materials. She's been coming here regularly every week. Do
- 10:43you know her name? I believe this young lady's name is miss Conroy.
- 10:48She took over the job only last week. Oh, she hasn't been here
- 10:52before last week. No, not a girl did it before that? But
- 10:58why are you asking all the questions about her? Surely you can't think she
- 11:01had anything to do with it. You never can be sure, madam.
- 11:05But she's such a sweet girl, a blonde with beautiful green eyes, just
- 11:09like my poor dear. Yes, yes, thank you, missus Dandy Banks.
- 11:13I be getting back to headquarters now. You mean you solved the mystery
- 11:16of dear Fluffy's disappearance. Perhaps, will you have your butler show me up
- 11:22please? Yes, of course, of course, Kennington, Yes, show
- 11:26mister Carter out, Yes, display sir. Good day, missus Dandy Banks.
- 11:35Thank you Carrington. Not at all, sir, good day. Very
- 11:41interesting. This may produce results, after all. This is the headquarters of
- 12:01the Ladies Auxiliary. This is the office of Brown, Brown, White and
- 12:05Brown Attorneys. Yes, would you give us the address of a Miss Conroy
- 12:09who works with you. We have a legal communication for her, Miss Conroy.
- 12:13Wonder please, Andrew, things have happened. Miss Conroy lives at seventy
- 12:18sixth East Dover Place. Thank you, not all the driver. Why are
- 12:35you stopping here? Man? This is the address you'd give me. Mister.
- 12:39This is seventy six East Dover Place. Well, it's as near as
- 12:43I can get to it. This is an empty lot. I can't help
- 12:46that, mister. It's seventy six East Dover Place. Just the same,
- 12:50okay, take me to the Mayflower Restaurant fifty six and thirty fourth. Right.
- 13:05You're a little early for dinner tonight, mister Carter. Nobody gets in
- 13:07here before six generally, I'll never mind. Katy, bring me a nice
- 13:11thick slab of roast beef. Oh, you're just fooling, mister Carter.
- 13:15This is meatless cheesby. Oh, yes, so it is, Katy.
- 13:16I never seen your remember that. Well, what's on the menu here you
- 13:20can look for yourself. If you had to buy meat for a family the
- 13:24way I do, you'd remember it's a job getting things these days. Why,
- 13:30just this afternoon, before I come to work, I went to the
- 13:33butcher shop to get some liver. My husband calls it cat food, but
- 13:35eats it just the same. Well, I got some and a nice piece
- 13:39it was, too, but I had to fight for it. Fight for
- 13:43it. Yeah, blonde, little chit, try to get it away from
- 13:46me, last piece there was, but I got it. I slapped her
- 13:48face too, I did. And she didn't want it for herself at all.
- 13:54Wanted it for a cat. Imagine her cat? What kind of cat?
- 13:58What's the difference? What kind of a cat? It was the idea
- 14:01of hard working folks having to go without for some cat can eat the best?
- 14:05There is this blond She wouldn't be young and pretty. Would He lives
- 14:09in the neighborhood. Maybe, Oh she's pretty to look at? What the
- 14:13language she used to make your hair curl? Yeah? Yeah, she lives
- 14:18around here. I've seen her going in and out of the Mecca apartments across
- 14:22the park. She's a movie actress. Maybe apartment Well, I wonder if
- 14:26she's home now here. Don't you want any dinner? I thought you'd come
- 14:33in here to eat. Oh sorry, Katie, I'll be back later.
- 14:35Right now, we have to follow a hunch and see a girl about a
- 14:37cat. So long Verma does the name of the donor is big his life?
- 15:03Hey, that's the young lady. Riley's been trying to pin something up
- 15:07for the past few weeks, if I recall correctly, Well, Nick,
- 15:09let's see what happens. Well, very well, thanks here. What's the
- 15:22idea of pushing into my apartment like that? We'll just dropped in the sale?
- 15:24O? What do you want here? Kitty was right? You are
- 15:30good looking. Listen, fella, if you don't clear out of here,
- 15:33all pretty catch? He goes there too. Persian, isn't it? Never
- 15:35mind the cat? What's the game? Come on? Talk up or get
- 15:41out? All right? Here? It is you call yourself Conray. You
- 15:45get to be a worker for the lady's auxiliary, get chumming with missus Dudley
- 15:48Banks, and then walk off with a pet persian under your raincoat. What's
- 15:50the answer? Oh what dick are you could be? I think Lieutenant Riley
- 15:56would like to have a chat with you down at headquarters. Lieutenant Rally had
- 16:00me down at headquarters and had to let me go. He's got nothing on
- 16:03me. Then you won't have to worry, will you. We'll go down
- 16:07to confer with him anyway. We'll take Fluffy along with us. You let
- 16:10that cat aloan. I'm not leaving here for you or anyone else. No,
- 16:15missus, Dudley Banks didn't like the idea of you taking Courby. He
- 16:18better answer that it's somebody I'd like to see and be yourself. I don't
- 16:22want to have to get rep watch yourself. I'll be right behind these curtains
- 16:27watching you. Oh, Scully, it's you. Sure it's me, babe?
- 16:33Who'd you expect? Oh? I don't know. I just surmed a
- 16:37babe. You look scared. No, I'm not scared. Ready to travel.
- 16:41We're rolling the nice Scully. I say, you did a nice job
- 16:44getting us the lay out of the old lady's place. Time proud out of
- 16:47you. You know that lady's auxiliary right get worked out? Okay? Me
- 16:51and Saban turned the trick in no time. The wall safe was a pipe
- 16:53deck crack, and we cleaned it. We put the maid and the old
- 16:56lady to sleep and dumped them in the closet. Never got a squint at
- 17:00us at all. You had to get rough with a butler. You old
- 17:03try to make a getaway, and we had to give him awake. Kelly,
- 17:07say, are you sick of something? I got something to tell you
- 17:11because I dicked me on the curtains. Want to keep your hands in side?
- 17:15Get him up, Scully's see, if you're carrying a gun, just
- 17:18keep him up, Scully, and you too, read. I'm not pointing
- 17:21this gun of mine at you for exercise. Oh no gun? Huh?
- 17:27What's the matter? Don't you wish I had one and you could pull me
- 17:32for carrying a concealed weapon? Nothing doing, Copper, I don't carry any
- 17:36hardware outside of business. How I see? What are you doing here anyhow?
- 17:40I've just been waiting around for you to show up. Hey, look,
- 17:42baby, how come this dick's parked here in your place? I tried
- 17:45to tell you, Scully, he just busted in on me just before you
- 17:48came. Must I had some reason for busting in. I'll never mind that
- 17:52now, Scully. That's all. Go down to see Riley. You should
- 17:56have held you in jail a little longer today it would acquired the job you
- 17:57just pulled it, Missus Dudley Bank residence. Well that's the answer to my
- 18:02problem. I'll just stand there, you two while I give Riley a ring.
- 18:07Life will be a great deal happier for him when I tell him he's
- 18:10coming down to see him least headquarters. Lieutenant speak, Oh, Riley,
- 18:14I have a surprise for you. I already got one. Nick. You
- 18:17know what was pulled off not half hour ago. I do if all Missus
- 18:21Dudley Banks and her maid bottled up in her closet and the butler shot to
- 18:22death, probably the walls safe have been cleaned up, and Missus Dudley Banks
- 18:26prize collection of rubies is missing. Nick, how did you where did you?
- 18:30Simple? Riley? Katie had liver for supper tonight, see and help
- 18:33put on those lights again. Don't try it, okay, River, end
- 18:41of light? Sun? What's going on now? You stay put right way?
- 18:48Yeah? Okay, Skelly, just as you say, good way,
- 18:51Babe, you tend the lights Sun just at the right time. We better
- 18:53pick up the table and put that phone back, okay, lights which was
- 18:56just behind me. I figured we'd have a better chance you off for quickskelleyin't
- 19:00too quick for that copper. He didn't get a chance to spell anything to
- 19:03Riley. We ain't in the picture at all, and we won't be either.
- 19:07I was pretty scared for a minute. Hey, we're saving We're meeting
- 19:11him. Had Jake bring me here to get you. He's waiting for us
- 19:12downstairs. Nowre you ready to travel? You're up and ready to pass the
- 19:15hour? Thought it was you at the door in this Dick not, That's
- 19:18why I opened it so quick. May let's get going there. Hey,
- 19:19ain't you going to take care of the flat foot before we leave? Not
- 19:22here? The one he did? Dick's tie you up with it and maybe
- 19:26hook me in two. Just take him along with us for a while.
- 19:30Keep Riley guessing too, how right? And n I see you to take
- 19:33me along and meet Saving Skelly. Then i'll have all three of you together
- 19:36in one place where it'll be easier to take you in. You know,
- 19:40Riley'd hate to see you leave town. That kept that comedy copper. You're
- 19:44going along, but not far so. Pick up your hat, big boy,
- 19:47and match yourself downstairs, and don't forget I'll be right behind you.
- 19:49All the way. Okay, Skelly, you're the boss now that you've got
- 19:53my gun. Oh, don't forget your cat reb Gosh, that's right.
- 19:57I almost did. Come Come on, Fluffy, Okay, where'd that thing
- 20:02come from? And she a dear picked her up today, just couldn't resist
- 20:10her. You're gonna drag that along with you? Sure? I can't leave
- 20:14her behind. She won't be any trouble. Okay, let's get going.
- 20:18I don't want to keep Jake waiting anybody, buddy. While he was waiting
- 20:32Jake, so it was there with your Scully when o' riley's Bloodhounds, he
- 20:36was that in front with Jake. Kay. Right, Hey, what's happened?
- 20:40Scully? Get going? And we're behind schedule now on account of this
- 20:45guy. Okay, but I don't like it. You gotta get rid of
- 20:48him. Wait, well when the time comes. Hey, look, gum
- 20:52shoes, how come you happen to drop in on Reeby to night? Just
- 20:56a hunt? Yeah? Yeah? How things break, isn't it? You

- 21:10isn't it? Yeah? I can't stop laughing. What's so funny,
- 21:12Scully? Yes, that dick, he knows the answers. I'll tell you
- 21:17when the time comes. But first let's find Sabin. Yeah, here's the

- 21:42we don't get upstate before morning, we're gonna be who's that with you?
- 21:45Keep your shirt on and close the garage doors for some fool. Cup shows
- 21:49up and begins asking questions. Okay, come over here, Saban. I
- 21:59want to show you up price package. I picked up tonight, a real
- 22:02live blood hum straight from Riley's kennels him. How do you get into the
- 22:06picture? Walked him on his own two feet, and he won't go out
- 22:08that way, and I have to carry him when we get through with him.
- 22:11Yeah, that's what I've been telling him. But it don't seem to
- 22:14worry him none. Qu's the use of worrying. I can't do anything about
- 22:17it yet, not yet. I have a copper. You're a dead duck.
- 22:22Give Jake the guns, Cully, he can stay here and hold it
- 22:25on the gum show you and really be coming to the house with me a
- 22:26minute. Okay, Saban here, Jake, keep this pointy that that Dick's
- 22:30hot. Yeah, I have to live when I think it's his own gun
- 22:34that's keeping him quiet. He'll keep quiet, all right, something's gonna happen
- 22:40to him. Hey, how long you're gonna be gone? There's a couple
- 22:42of minutes. We'll be right back. Everything's all set to go as soon

- 24:41not that fast. I don't choke. Don't choke. You know I ain't
- 24:42got no gun. Just have another look to make sure you're clean. I'll
- 24:48just take savings again. I'll make sure he doesn't have another one on him
- 24:52anyway, he's clean too. I'll keep those hands where I can see them.
- 24:56Really, just want to get a handkerchief out of my hand, all
- 25:00right, But no tricks. Can't a girl use around handkerchief when she had
- 25:03the block? Sorry to have to suck you on the jaw, lady,
- 25:07I suppose I might have known you'd have a gun in your handbag. All
- 25:11right, you too, pick her up and put in the back of the
- 25:12car, and then get in yourself, Sculler, you drive save when you're
- 25:15sitting back with rib and me just pushed Jake over, Scully. He won't
- 25:18bother you. How I get going? Okay? Then we'll all drive down
- 25:23and surprise with Dennet Riley. Won't that be fun? And after they left
- 25:41you alone with Jake, then what well, Patsy? When the three of
- 25:44them went into the house, I knew the chance I've been waiting for had
- 25:47come. I was in the back seat and Jake was in the front seat
- 25:49holding my gun on me. So I got up out of my seat,
- 25:52moved over to Jake, took the gun away from him, and punched him
- 25:56in the jaw. He went out like a light. Nick, You moved
- 25:59up on a man holding a pill on you. Why in the world didn't
- 26:02he kill you? Sounds to me like a hair bred Harry's story. He
- 26:04tried to kill me all right, Patsy, but he didn't know what I
- 26:07knew. That's why I had the advantage on him. No, stop teasing
- 26:11it. Tell me why in the world didn't he shoot you, as I
- 26:12said, Patsy, He tried to, but the gun wasn't loaded. Wasn't
- 26:17loaded. No, That's why I felt perfectly safe and just taking it away
- 26:19from him, Patsy. You should have seen the look in his face when
- 26:22he pointed the gun at my heart and pulled the trigger three times. But
- 26:26I thought you said it was your gun. He did, Patsy, And
- 26:30it wasn't loaded. No, Patsy, with shame and remorse, I admit
- 26:33it wasn't loaded. You see when Scully jumped on me in Reaver's apartment to
- 26:37try to shoot him with it, but the trigger simply clicked me and I
- 26:40suddenly remembered that I've been cleaning it the night before when I got that long
- 26:42distance phone call, and I just forgot loaded again. That's a dangerous mistake
- 26:47to make, Nick, even if it did save your life this time,
- 26:48tried write, Patsy. Quite right, I certainly had a lot of fun
- 26:52watching Scully pointing that empty gun at me all the time. We were going
- 26:55to meet Saban. You know, I really enjoyed it. I wish all
- 26:59my mistake Skitzernat as well. This has been another of the strange adventures of
- 27:21Nick Carter, Master Detective, which are brought to you regularly by w R.
- 27:26Mutual. Well, Nick, what's next week's story going to be about?
- 27:30Before I tell you that, John, there's something else I want to
- 27:32say, something very special, And this is addressed to you, our audience.
- 27:37We've been with you every week for the past year now bringing you the
- 27:41strange and exciting adventures of Nick Carter, and now I'm very happy to be
- 27:45able to announce that, beginning next Monday, April seventeenth, we're going to
- 27:48have the pleasure of being with you five times a week, five quarter hours
- 27:52a week Mondays through Fridays at nine to fifteen pm Eastern wartime over most of
- 27:57these stations. And I assure you that we're looking forward to these meetings with
- 28:00you very eagerly. So remember we won't be back Saturday nights anymore, but
- 28:06we will be here every evening Monday through Friday at a quarter past nine Eastern
- 28:08wartime, beginning this coming Monday, April seventeenth, and we hope you'll be
- 28:14with us as regularly in the future as you have been in the past.
- 28:15Genick, that's well, isn't it? Five times a week? And do
- 28:18we have a lot of exciting stories to tell? How? You bet?
- 28:22We do, Patsy, a lot of really exciting cases. And I think
- 28:26we'll start next Monday with a story which I call Kidnapped for Sale or the
- 28:30Mystery of the Missing Babies. Have you heard of the latest racket stealing young
- 28:34babies from their parents, not for ransom, but to sell them to people
- 28:37who want the baby for their own. Well, it's one of the dirtiest
- 28:41and lowest forms of kidnapping phone on the underworld to day. And when a
- 28:45young mother who'd lost a baby became to Nick for help, he was glad
- 28:48of the chance to break up the kidnap ring and catch the fiends who stole
- 28:51innocent and helpless children and then sold them to the highest bidders. So,
- 28:55if you want to be in on the beginning of one of the most exciting
- 28:57chases I've ever had, this next Monday evening at nine to fifteen Eastern wartime
- 29:03to the story Kidnapped for Sale. So long everybody so long and solong to
- 29:08both of you, Nick and Patsy. In the strange adventure you have just
- 29:12heard. Nick Carter was impersonated by Lon Clark, Patsy by Helen Choate,
- 29:17Lieutenant Raley by Humphrey Davis. Original music was played by Luke White. The
- 29:22entire production was written and directed by Jack McGregor. Next Monday evening at nine
- 29:40fifteen Eastern wartime, listen to the beginning of another curious experience of Nick Carter,
- 29:44entitled Kidnapped for Sale for Nick Carter and the Mystery of the Missing Babies.
- 29:56This story is a copyrighted feature of Streudent Smith Publications, Incorporated, and
- 30:00beginning next Saturday night, the popular series True Detective Mysteries will be broadcast over
- 30:04most of these stations every Saturday night at ten fifteen Eastern wartime, in addition
- 30:11to Wednesday afternoons at four thirty Eastern wartime. This is mutual welcome back.
- 30:34I have to admit that I both liked and dislike the closing a commercial.
- 30:42It was a great taser. It made it so you couldn't wait to get
- 30:47to those serial episodes. Unfortunately, none of those serial episodes are in circulation.
- 30:53So I can't bring them to you and I can't hear them, which
- 30:56is a bummer. In fact, that entire five day a week serial run,
- 31:03accounting for five months was missing. But it sounds so interesting, so
- 31:07good, and I think, as we're hearing with the Johnny Dollar program,
- 31:14uh there, you know, you can really do some fantastic things with five
- 31:21shows a week. I will say I would not say that these are lost
- 31:26Radio Goold index dot com a website I mentioned before. If you go there,
- 31:32they have a little summaries and snippets on just a huge catalog of shows.
- 31:40It's certainly not complete, and it's not one accurate, but it does
- 31:47give you an idea of what may be out there among collectors. And they
- 31:49have around two hundred more episodes of Nick Carter, including I think three or
- 31:56four of the serial runs complete. That doesn't mean that it was that it's
- 32:00in the possession of the people who run that website, so don't email or
- 32:06contact them or anything. But it means that they were able to catalog it,
- 32:10which means that it was out there once and hopefully is still out there.
- 32:15So maybe one of these days we'll be able to listen to that.
- 32:19Well. Another thing, I you know, and this was I think just
- 32:22a fun story. One thing I found interesting was people fighting over liver,
- 32:30you know, just going to such ends. You know, in our country
- 32:32today, we are far more logical. We don't get into those fight fights
- 32:37over things other than if it's the latest tech or toy on Black Friday.
- 32:42But I imagine it was a little more orderly than that most times. But
- 32:46you know, at least the woman whose family needed the meat got the meat.
- 32:52And I guess, you know, and liver obviously not the favorite meet
- 33:00by most folks, but any meat during World War two was much sought after,
- 33:07and I guess that's a good opportunity to remind you if you are interested
- 33:12in World War Two. We have another podcast, The War, in which
- 33:17we examine great old time radio war programming, and this week I'll have Adventures
- 33:25of Superman on Monday, Life of Riley on Tuesday, the Pacific Story on
- 33:31Wednesday, and Man Behind the Gun and Cavalcade of America, with our weekend
- 33:37music portion being from the Melody roundup in the National Barn Dance. So you'll
- 33:44want to go ahead and check that out in the meantime. Sendor comments to
