Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: All right, it is the next round brought to you
- 0:02Speaker 1: by our friends at Hard Rock Bet here on Sporting State.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Lance off today. Ryan Brown, Jim Dunaway, Tyler Forrester, and
- 0:10Speaker 1: Brooks behind the glass. LT with an issue at home
- 0:17Speaker 1: that he is dealing with. Our friends at Hemp Hill
- 0:19Speaker 1: and other companies are there helping him out. Not a
- 0:22Speaker 1: good one. Yeah, if you're new to the show, Sporting State,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Lance has a beautiful home. beautiful home, but occasionally there's
- 0:28Speaker 1: some issues. We won't get into what the issue is today,
- 0:31Speaker 1: but the issue has now hit two of our six
- 0:35Speaker 1: on-show members. Correct. Tyler, is yours cleared up?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Uh, For the most part, yeah. Like, bathroom's not a
- 0:43Speaker 2: biohazard yet.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Okay.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Do we know if Lance is pissed in his sink yet?
- 0:47Speaker 1: No, we do not. No. You could potentially text him
- 0:51Speaker 1: and ask him if you're like.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I think Lance has more than one bathroom.
- 0:56Speaker 1: By yet, do you mean in his entire life?
- 0:59Speaker 2: Oh, no, not in his entire life. He came on
- 1:03Speaker 2: the show and said he's pissed in many a sink.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah, many a sink. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So... Anyway, Godspeed
- 1:09Speaker 1: to Lance. We hope to see him tomorrow when it's
- 1:12Speaker 1: all said and done. That's a perfect t-shirt at some point.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Have you pissed in your sink? That's right. Have you
- 1:17Speaker 1: pissed in your sink today? It's that time of year.
- 1:20Speaker 1: This happens earlier and earlier now in college football. We're
- 1:27Speaker 1: to the point now where there are obvious coaches who
- 1:31Speaker 1: are on tremendous hot seats and ones that are not
- 1:36Speaker 1: Probably going to survive. And now we're going into week four.
- 1:40Speaker 1: There's still 75% of the season left. And they've got
- 1:44Speaker 1: to do a majority of 75% of news conferences and
- 1:48Speaker 1: get asked about this every week. You know what I'm
- 1:51Speaker 1: talking about? It's got to be. You probably dread this
- 1:53Speaker 1: day rolling around. And let me tell you. They dread
- 1:55Speaker 1: it probably even the best of times. They dread this.
- 1:57Speaker 1: As a guy who's covered coaches that you know are
- 2:00Speaker 1: going to get fired, it's no fun for the media either.
- 2:03Speaker 1: But there are some guys who enjoy it. Yeah. I
- 2:08Speaker 1: will say this for the media, and I'm not saying
- 2:10Speaker 1: this for me. I don't really care. But I think
- 2:13Speaker 1: there are some media guys that once they know, if
- 2:17Speaker 1: they don't like the coach, and this happens, where back
- 2:20Speaker 1: in the day it was primarily either the over-the-top radio
- 2:24Speaker 1: guy or the bombastic newspaper columnist. That's right. Before Feinbaum
- 2:28Speaker 1: became both of those in one person. But Feinbaum was
- 2:34Speaker 1: the first of my... my life because I grew up
- 2:38Speaker 1: in Alabama and with a gentile southern media and then
- 2:42Speaker 1: all of a sudden here comes Feinbaum down to write
- 2:45Speaker 1: a column every week in the Post Herald and I
- 2:47Speaker 1: was like well what is this we brought in a
- 2:50Speaker 1: damn Yankee to write this mean stuff all the time
- 2:53Speaker 1: turns out he's from Memphis not a Yankee at all
- 2:56Speaker 1: but what happens is a lot of times you'll get
- 3:00Speaker 1: members of the media that once they sense that the
- 3:02Speaker 1: tide has turned against the coach, and they don't like
- 3:06Speaker 1: the coach, it's open season. Like now I can really
- 3:09Speaker 1: go after him. I'm not going to have to deal
- 3:11Speaker 1: with all the blowback from the fans. Or the boosters,
- 3:14Speaker 1: more importantly. Or the boosters. They're behind me now. So
- 3:18Speaker 1: that's when it really gets toxic is when you've got
- 3:21Speaker 1: a coach that nobody likes or a large portion of
- 3:26Speaker 1: the media dislike him. When it turns like that, that's
- 3:32Speaker 1: when they'll start going after him. And I get the
- 3:34Speaker 1: feel this may have happened. And sometimes it's not dislike.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I mean, a lot of coaches that I knew were
- 3:40Speaker 1: getting fired, eventually I actually liked them. I really loved
- 3:45Speaker 1: my time with Mike Shula. Loved my time. I did
- 3:47Speaker 1: the Mike Shula show. Yeah, nobody ended up disliking Shula. No,
- 3:50Speaker 1: but it was hard at the end because you knew
- 3:52Speaker 1: it was the end. And I really liked Mike Shula.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Near the end of Tommy Tuberville. Oh, I always liked Tommy.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I love Tommy. Love Tommy. I mean, there really hasn't
- 4:03Speaker 1: been a coach, like Auburn fans don't like Harsin, but
- 4:06Speaker 1: Brian Harsin was very good to us. And I have
- 4:10Speaker 1: no ill will towards Brian Harsin. There's nothing I'm like, God,
- 4:12Speaker 1: I couldn't stand that guy. Hugh, we knew Hugh before
- 4:18Speaker 1: he took the Auburn job. That's right. And again, I'm
- 4:20Speaker 1: just going to say Hugh was always good to us.
- 4:23Speaker 1: His act got old to me once. I mean, I
- 4:25Speaker 1: used to watch it at Ole Miss. It was like, yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's interesting. But then when you had to live it
- 4:30Speaker 1: every day, it kind of got old. So we're getting
- 4:33Speaker 1: to a couple of coaches here. One of them is
- 4:37Speaker 1: Mike Loxley, who I really enjoyed talking to when he
- 4:40Speaker 1: was in Tuscaloosa on Nick Saban's staff. Seemed like a
- 4:44Speaker 1: really nice guy, but I don't know him socially or personally.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Taylor Lyons is a sports writer for the Baltimore Sun.
- 4:51Speaker 1: He'll be the guy asking the question here. And has
- 4:55Speaker 1: since followed up that there's a new policy at Maryland.
- 4:57Speaker 1: You don't get to do follow-up questions. They actually take
- 4:59Speaker 1: the microphone away from you as you try to do
- 5:01Speaker 1: a follow-up question. And listen, Taylor's doing her job, and
- 5:06Speaker 1: these are fair questions, but being a Southerner, I never
- 5:12Speaker 1: really attacked it with this much bite in my questions.
- 5:16Speaker 1: In fact, I never attacked it with this much bite
- 5:19Speaker 1: in the question. This is Maryland coach Mike Loxley on
- 5:22Speaker 1: the other end of a Baltimore Sun question yesterday.
- 5:26Speaker 5: You said it after the game Saturday. You said it
- 5:28Speaker 5: several times after losses over the years that you're going
- 5:32Speaker 5: to learn from it. You're going to get things fixed, corrected.
- 5:35Speaker 5: Yet losses like Saturday continue to happen where you get outcoached,
- 5:39Speaker 5: you get outplayed, and then you come out afterward and
- 5:42Speaker 5: you make those same promises. Do you feel like you
- 5:46Speaker 5: deserved more chances to keep saying you're going to learn
- 5:50Speaker 5: from losses when I think everybody at this point expects
- 5:53Speaker 5: more from you.
- 5:54Speaker 6: So go back and break your question down because you
- 5:56Speaker 6: seem like you went on. What are you asking me?
- 5:59Speaker 1: Let's get to that.
- 6:00Speaker 5: After losses like Saturday, you keep saying that you're going
- 6:03Speaker 5: to learn from them. Got it.
- 6:04Speaker 6: Okay, I understand that. So it goes back to what
- 6:06Speaker 6: my opening statement was, was that I understand why you
- 6:10Speaker 6: asked the question, why you say those things. I understand
- 6:12Speaker 6: why the fans are frustrated. They've earned the right. for
- 6:16Speaker 6: us to play better than we have. It won't get
- 6:19Speaker 6: fixed here at the podium. It gets fixed across the
- 6:21Speaker 6: street with the work we do. We continue to do
- 6:23Speaker 6: the work. We continue to improve. We'll continue to do
- 6:27Speaker 6: the things we have to do to earn their trust back.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, and Loxley handled it well. I mean,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, if I don't know if the words get
- 6:36Speaker 1: to the point you're asking me. Yeah, that's right. Just
- 6:38Speaker 1: let's let's cut to the chase of the hard question.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Go ahead and ask the hard question. I've set it up.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Just ask the hard question and I'm going to answer
- 6:43Speaker 1: and he answered and he didn't blow up at a guy.
- 6:46Speaker 1: If Lexley blows up right there, it's national news. It's
- 6:49Speaker 1: a bad look for him. You know, I don't know
- 6:52Speaker 1: if it's what the reporter wanted. That guy sounds far
- 6:54Speaker 1: from bombastic, honestly, the way he asked the question. But,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I mean, I think Loxley handled it well. Now, with
- 7:00Speaker 1: that said, Loxley is saying stuff no fans want to hear.
- 7:02Speaker 1: No fan at this point. I'll have to pull up
- 7:04Speaker 1: Loxley's record. It's bad, though. It's not good. I mean,
- 7:07Speaker 1: eventually your time runs out. Yeah, his time has. I
- 7:10Speaker 1: think everybody knows. He only came back last year, Jim,
- 7:14Speaker 1: because he couldn't afford to buy him out. And they
- 7:15Speaker 1: were like, let's give him one more year. But they
- 7:17Speaker 1: also gave him some NIL money. That's what they said, yeah.
- 7:20Speaker 1: So the time has moved on. I mean, he's 39-50
- 7:24Speaker 1: at Maryland, 17-48 in the Big Ten. I don't expect
- 7:27Speaker 1: a lot from Maryland. I don't, but I expect more
- 7:28Speaker 1: than that. But I know Maryland people expect something from
- 7:31Speaker 1: Maryland more than that. I mean, 17-48 in the Big
- 7:33Speaker 1: Ten is really, really bad. And they've renamed their stadium
- 7:35Speaker 1: The Shell, so that's good. I want to get to
- 7:37Speaker 1: a guy in the SEC, though. Shane Beamer, who comes
- 7:40Speaker 1: to Tuscaloosa this week. And I always warn people. I
- 7:44Speaker 1: always warn people, and he's going to bring this up,
- 7:48Speaker 1: there's 75% of the season left. I mean, you can,
- 7:52Speaker 1: and I've seen it happen on this show, on this
- 7:55Speaker 1: show in 17 years, that you can start throwing dirt
- 7:58Speaker 1: on somebody and they do the old Undertaker. They come
- 8:03Speaker 1: out of nowhere. That's right. And they come back and
- 8:06Speaker 1: save their job. And I've seen teams that's been dead, buried.
- 8:09Speaker 1: They had us buried and they come back and win
- 8:11Speaker 1: a national championship under Nick Saban. So you can make
- 8:14Speaker 1: assumptions early on. But it doesn't look good for Shane
- 8:18Speaker 1: Beamer right now. And he gets a little worked up
- 8:20Speaker 1: in his trip before coming to Tuscaloosa News Conference. Here's
- 8:24Speaker 1: Shane Beamer yesterday. Got to respond. I mean, we've got
- 8:28Speaker 1: a loss.
- 8:29Speaker 7: Texas A & M has a loss in the SEC.
- 8:32Speaker 7: I don't think they're just packing up their stuff and
- 8:36Speaker 7: calling it a season. LSU's got a loss in the SEC.
- 8:40Speaker 7: Auburn's got a loss in the SEC. I think there's
- 8:42Speaker 7: five teams that haven't played a game in the SEC, Mingo.
- 8:45Speaker 7: So we have a loss. So that's the message is
- 8:49Speaker 7: we lost a football game. And now we've got nine left.
- 8:52Speaker 1: We've moved on.
- 8:53Speaker 7: I mean, in this building, like, we've moved on. Saturday sucked.
- 8:58Speaker 7: We're not going to sit around and feel sorry for ourselves. Like,
- 9:00Speaker 7: that's life, guys.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Stuff happens. And we've moved on. And everybody else can
- 9:05Speaker 1: talk about what does that look like.
- 9:06Speaker 7: And how are the comparisons to 26 and 25 and
- 9:09Speaker 7: 24 and what are you telling your team. I ain't
- 9:11Speaker 7: got to tell my team anything.
- 9:12Speaker 1: And guess what?
- 9:13Speaker 7: If it's called sports, they may play better and coach
- 9:16Speaker 7: better than us Saturday night. And they may win the
- 9:18Speaker 7: football game. And we'll come back in here on Sunday
- 9:20Speaker 7: and get right back to work again because that's what
- 9:23Speaker 7: life in the SEC is. I mean, Alabama, I just
- 9:27Speaker 7: talked about them last year. Notre Dame lost to Northern
- 9:29Speaker 7: Illinois two years ago. They didn't shut down the program
- 9:33Speaker 7: and blow everything up. They responded and they went and
- 9:34Speaker 7: played for the national championship game in the same season.
- 9:37Speaker 1: So that's how, that's easy. That's the message. it seems
- 9:43Speaker 1: like he has to do that press conference a lot, though,
- 9:45Speaker 1: doesn't it? It does. I mean, I feel like I
- 9:48Speaker 1: know Scott is telling us this was from yesterday, and
- 9:52Speaker 1: I'm not saying I distrust Scott that this is from yesterday.
- 9:55Speaker 1: But it could have been from last year. is distrust
- 9:57Speaker 1: a word but Scott I.
- 9:58Speaker 8: Mean I can confirm this was yesterday but Scott can you.
- 10:01Speaker 2: I can confirm distrust is indeed a word.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Thank you Tyler Scott could you also confirm that you
- 10:06Speaker 1: probably have played this same clip for us 15 times.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Some variation of it, yes.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I mean, he says this a lot. He's having to
- 10:14Speaker 1: do this a lot. I don't know if South Carolina
- 10:16Speaker 1: fans are... I mean, they're passionate fans. You'll grant that, right?
- 10:20Speaker 1: They pack that stadium out a lot for bad football products.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I mean, their crowd was almost as good as the
- 10:25Speaker 1: Florida-Atlantic-Florida game this past weekend. More on that later. But
- 10:29Speaker 1: I feel like Shane Beamer has to defend himself an
- 10:32Speaker 1: awful lot. And I don't know if maybe their media
- 10:34Speaker 1: is saltier than we give credit for in Columbia, South Carolina.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Gentile man. We're all sipping on bourbon. We're Southern gentlemen.
- 10:41Speaker 1: The truth of the matter is for him, I mean,
- 10:45Speaker 1: I don't know that he can save his job at
- 10:47Speaker 1: Bryant-Denny Stadium. I don't know if he can lose his
- 10:49Speaker 1: job at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Well, win over Alabama doesn't carry the... Oh, no, don't.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Wait a minute. You're going to have to back this
- 10:56Speaker 1: statement up.
- 10:57Speaker 7: Go ahead.
- 10:57Speaker 1: The win over Alabama doesn't carry the same crescendo moment
- 11:01Speaker 1: in your career that it did when it was Nick
- 11:03Speaker 1: Saban on the other sidelines, but... Still a top 10
- 11:06Speaker 1: road win. But if you let me finish my thought, Brown. Sorry, Jim.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Go ahead. But a win over Alabama still resonates with
- 11:13Speaker 1: your fans, and it is a top 10 road win.
- 11:15Speaker 1: So this would be a huge win for him this weekend.
- 11:17Speaker 1: It would be. Is it a job saver? It used
- 11:20Speaker 1: to be. Probably still could be for him.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know if you're to that
- 11:25Speaker 1: point where, like... Like, Saturday was a massive moment for Stein,
- 11:30Speaker 1: for Will Stein. It was pretty big for Jeff Lebbe
- 11:32Speaker 1: against that guy, too. Oh, it was, yeah. No, you're
- 11:34Speaker 1: absolutely right, for both those guys. You don't even have
- 11:36Speaker 1: to leave the stadium. Jeff Lebbe was a big one
- 11:38Speaker 1: for him. Now, Lebbe's problem is he was 3-0 last year, too, so...
- 11:42Speaker 1: He didn't have a win like this, but he was
- 11:43Speaker 1: 3-0 last year. If you're Levy, you've got to build
- 11:46Speaker 1: on the 3-0 now. Yeah, but he's gone to a
- 11:49Speaker 1: Big Ten stadium. Levy has. Not against Alcorn State. Feels different.
- 11:53Speaker 1: And he's won an SEC road game. His second. No, no, no.
- 11:57Speaker 1: It feels totally different. I'm with you. It feels like
- 11:59Speaker 1: a different 3-0 for him right now. But if he
- 12:01Speaker 1: doesn't build on it, you'll grant me that they'll be
- 12:03Speaker 1: right back where we started this year with him. But
- 12:06Speaker 1: for Beamer... Like, I don't think you're to the— well, I
- 12:09Speaker 1: was going to say it was a big moment for
- 12:10Speaker 1: Stein because it was early on, and now Kentucky fans
- 12:12Speaker 1: are like, all right, we're not the team that melted
- 12:14Speaker 1: down to Alabama in the second half. This is not us.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I believe what this guy's saying. That's right. We can
- 12:18Speaker 1: go on the road and win. But if Beamer goes
- 12:21Speaker 1: on the road and wins this game, they'll be like—
- 12:23Speaker 1: I don't know, man. I've seen so much football out
- 12:25Speaker 1: of this guy. I can't get excited and change my
- 12:29Speaker 1: whole feeling on one win. And the truth is, Jim,
- 12:31Speaker 1: win or lose in this game, the remaining schedule for
- 12:34Speaker 1: him is very daunting. Like it is with every SEC team.
- 12:36Speaker 1: That's what I was about to say. This is where
- 12:38Speaker 1: we say, well, even if he beats Alabama, their schedule's tough.
- 12:41Speaker 1: But it's true. But you want to be redundant. That's
- 12:43Speaker 1: what we say everywhere. When we talk about everybody in
- 12:45Speaker 1: the SEC, it is tough for everybody. Which is why
- 12:48Speaker 1: you can't make this a make or break for Beamer.
- 12:50Speaker 1: It may be a break. You can't make it a
- 12:52Speaker 1: make for Beamer because even with this win, like if
- 12:55Speaker 1: they went, just listen to this group and tell me
- 12:57Speaker 1: if they go 500 in this group, okay? Kentucky at home,
- 13:00Speaker 1: at Florida, Tennessee at home, at Oklahoma, Texas A &
- 13:03Speaker 1: M at home, at Arkansas, Georgia at home, at Clemson. Yeah,
- 13:07Speaker 1: other than Arkansas. There's no guarantee. There are no guarantees,
- 13:11Speaker 1: and that's my point. Even if he goes. 500 and
- 13:14Speaker 1: you get to the end of the year and you're like,
- 13:15Speaker 1: are we where we want to be? I know we
- 13:17Speaker 1: beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. That was a great win. I
- 13:20Speaker 1: got excited about it. But are we where we want
- 13:23Speaker 1: to be as a program? Yeah, basically they're 0-1 in
- 13:26Speaker 1: their regular season after two preseason games. Exactly. I mean,
- 13:30Speaker 1: that's by NFL standards. But look how tough the rest
- 13:32Speaker 1: of the schedule is. Other than Arkansas, there's no guaranteed win,
- 13:35Speaker 1: and that doesn't get you a bowl game, and that
- 13:36Speaker 1: doesn't save your job.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:38Speaker 1: That, to Shane Beamer's words, is life in the SEC.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Which I guess if they beat Alabama and then go
- 13:43Speaker 1: 400 the rest of the way, they're 7-5. So maybe
- 13:46Speaker 1: they look at that and they're okay with it. But
- 13:48Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know that South Carolina fans will
- 13:50Speaker 1: look at 7-5 with a win in Tuscaloosa and be like,
- 13:52Speaker 1: let's keep the guy. I think that would be an
- 13:54Speaker 1: over their win total, their expectation this year. I think
- 13:57Speaker 1: it would be an over. I think they were around
- 13:58Speaker 1: six and a half. You're in a tough spot, though,
- 14:00Speaker 1: when you've had this coach this long and you have
- 14:02Speaker 1: to take seven and five as a fan base and say, OK,
- 14:05Speaker 1: we're good. We're seven and five. But boy, we won
- 14:07Speaker 1: in Tuscaloosa. I've used this phrase. I've used this phrase
- 14:10Speaker 1: with you. You and I have been together 20 years now.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I've used the theory of large numbers with you many,
- 14:15Speaker 1: many times. And in the SEC, there were 16 teams
- 14:18Speaker 1: and you were playing nine games. there are going to
- 14:20Speaker 1: be really good football teams that are 7-5. There are.
- 14:23Speaker 1: But you know who never pays attention to the theory
- 14:26Speaker 1: of large numbers are fans. That's right. So you can
- 14:28Speaker 1: say it all you want. I mean, I just don't
- 14:32Speaker 1: know that this is make or break anymore just because
- 14:34Speaker 1: of the way the SEC is. But at some point,
- 14:36Speaker 1: Beamer has got to, I guess, show. I don't know
- 14:40Speaker 1: what they want out of him, Jim. I really don't.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I don't know what South Carolina fans want out of Beamer.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think they loved him the year they almost made
- 14:45Speaker 1: the playoffs. They want Steve Spurrier. They want Steve Spurrier years.
- 14:50Speaker 1: That was two trips in a very weak SEC East,
- 14:55Speaker 1: two trips to the SEC Championship. I think I've seen
- 14:58Speaker 1: enough of this guy to say you're not going to
- 14:59Speaker 1: get that out of him. I like him. I like me.
- 15:02Speaker 7: Me too.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I like him. I like Loxley. There's two guys I like.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I know, but I don't know what Maryland wants out
- 15:07Speaker 1: of Loxley. I mean, you're probably... Whatever you want out
- 15:10Speaker 1: of Loxley, you're never going to get out of anybody, probably,
- 15:13Speaker 1: unless you convince Nick Saban to come out of retirement.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I don't know what South Carolina fans want out of
- 15:17Speaker 1: Shane Beamer. If it is the Spurrier years, I would
- 15:20Speaker 1: tell you I don't think that guy's going to get
- 15:22Speaker 1: you there. Let me see my list. I also don't
- 15:24Speaker 1: know if that's realistic. I got 13 cuts. We played
- 15:27Speaker 1: two of them. I'm seeing if there's any more. Any
- 15:29Speaker 1: more hot seat coaches? Oh. Give me cut 11. Oh,
- 15:33Speaker 1: we got another hot seat.
- 15:34Speaker 7: Coach, huh?
- 15:34Speaker 1: I mean, he's not on a hot seat because they
- 15:36Speaker 1: give him a contract every other year. I know. This
- 15:39Speaker 1: is amazing. Brent Venables, Oklahoma. God, do they have an
- 15:43Speaker 1: easy game this week, Forrester? Where does Oklahoma play?
- 15:46Speaker 3: They do not. They got a little bit of a
- 15:48Speaker 3: test over in Athens.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Number two Georgia on the road.
- 15:51Speaker 7: Oh, no.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Oh, for Oklahoma. Brent Venables. Scratchy voice. He's going to
- 15:56Speaker 1: have a scratchy voice. He is because he's yelled his
- 15:58Speaker 1: ass off in practice, probably at the offense.
- 16:01Speaker 3: He's got that bandit voice.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Bandit has to drink water to keep it. He gets
- 16:06Speaker 1: asked about the offensive problems, and here's Brent Venables, not
- 16:10Speaker 1: in a hot seat, but he's hot.
- 16:13Speaker 9: I don't want to be the offensive coordinator. I want
- 16:15Speaker 9: the offensive staff to come up with a great game
- 16:17Speaker 9: plan and have great balance, to be physical, take care
- 16:20Speaker 9: of the ball, run the football, create explosive plays, have
- 16:23Speaker 9: great balance, attack people's weaknesses, all of those types of things.
- 16:28Speaker 9: And I want them to play with more confidence and
- 16:31Speaker 9: more continuity and being a better rhythm. And so we're
- 16:35Speaker 9: working hard and diligent at doing that.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't want to be the offensive coordinator, but
- 16:39Speaker 1: I want them to do this, this, this, and this.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I want to tell them what to do. I mean,
- 16:44Speaker 1: he's the head coach. That's his job. Have we ever
- 16:46Speaker 1: seen an offensive coordinator fired mid-season? That sounds like— I mean,
- 16:51Speaker 1: I didn't hear the question. I didn't hear the rest
- 16:52Speaker 1: of the news conference. Pete Golding got elevated to defensive
- 16:55Speaker 1: coordinator one year privately, right? Privately, yeah. I mean, a
- 16:59Speaker 1: lot of people think— Tosh LaPois last year in Tuscaloosa and Al—
- 17:03Speaker 1: I won't remember what specific year that was. I want
- 17:06Speaker 1: to say 18. I want to say 18 as well.
- 17:08Speaker 1: That Pete Golding had to take over the play calling there.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Maybe it was 19. Whenever it was, Pete Golding had
- 17:14Speaker 1: to take over the defensive play calling there because LaPoi
- 17:16Speaker 1: was out of his depth. I wonder if we're at
- 17:19Speaker 1: that point. in Norman, Oklahoma. I mean, that sounded like
- 17:24Speaker 1: frustration with Ben Arbuckle, right? I didn't hear the whole...
- 17:27Speaker 1: Play it again. Hit start it one more time for
- 17:29Speaker 1: me here. This is Brent Venables, I assume, yesterday.
- 17:32Speaker 9: I don't want to be the offensive coordinator. I want
- 17:35Speaker 9: the offensive staff to come up with a great game
- 17:36Speaker 9: plan and have great balance, to be physical, take care
- 17:39Speaker 9: of the ball, run the football, create explosive plays, have
- 17:42Speaker 9: great balance, attack people's weaknesses, all of those types of things.
- 17:47Speaker 9: And I want them to play with you know, more
- 17:49Speaker 9: confidence and more continuity and being a better rhythm. And
- 17:54Speaker 9: so we're working hard and diligent doing that.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'll tell you, if you're watching in Oklahoma or you're
- 17:59Speaker 1: an Oklahoma fan, here's what I have a problem with that.
- 18:03Speaker 1: And I hate to go back to Nick Saban all
- 18:04Speaker 1: the time, but I had a chance to spend some
- 18:06Speaker 1: time around him. Nick Saban was a defensive minded coach,
- 18:10Speaker 1: former defensive coordinator. He was as much a part of
- 18:14Speaker 1: the offensive game plan as he was the defensive game
- 18:17Speaker 1: plan every week as a head coach. He was also
- 18:20Speaker 1: a part of the special teams plans. He broke down
- 18:22Speaker 1: film on the offense and the defense and special teams.
- 18:25Speaker 1: He had meetings every day to come up with the
- 18:28Speaker 1: plans with the offensive, defensive staff. He's like, I don't
- 18:31Speaker 1: want to be the offensive coordinator. I want them to
- 18:33Speaker 1: come up with a game plan, blah, blah, blah. That's
- 18:35Speaker 1: not your job, bro. I know you're the defensive coordinator too,
- 18:38Speaker 1: but you're also the head coach. You need to be
- 18:39Speaker 1: in those offensive meetings, helping them come up with the
- 18:41Speaker 1: plan that you want. You need to be in the
- 18:43Speaker 1: special teams meeting, helping them come up with the plans
- 18:46Speaker 1: that you want. And you're the defensive coordinator. You need
- 18:48Speaker 1: to be doing that as well. That's part of being
- 18:50Speaker 1: the head coach. That's why you make all the money.
- 18:52Speaker 1: So I like Brent Venables too, but It's not all
- 18:56Speaker 1: on the offensive coordinator. You need to be in there, too,
- 19:00Speaker 1: to making sure you're getting the offensive game plan you want.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I was going to say, Ryan, worth noting, Jim just asked,
- 19:08Speaker 4: has there ever been firings midseason? Brent Venables fired his
- 19:11Speaker 4: offensive coordinator in 2024, first year in the league, Seth Luttrell,
- 19:16Speaker 4: seven games into the season.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Seven games in. We're week four. So right now people
- 19:22Speaker 1: are asking– Arbuckle, hey, what do you want for dinner?
- 19:27Speaker 1: You can have anything. You want lobster? You can have lobster.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Glass meal. Anything you want. You'd say Arbuckle needs to
- 19:32Speaker 1: sleep with one eye open? Like the meal they give
- 19:34Speaker 1: you before they send you off to war. Here's the pastor.
- 19:38Speaker 1: He's going to walk you down to Brent Venables.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Wow.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Brent Venables' office.
- 19:42Speaker 4: But this is who Brent Venables replaced Seth Luttrell with,
- 19:44Speaker 4: was Ben Arbuckle. So he's now maybe struck out two
- 19:47Speaker 4: times in a row.
- 19:48Speaker 1: So maybe Brent Venables. can't have good offense, is what
- 19:51Speaker 1: you're telling me, Brooks. Is that what we're getting at here,
- 19:52Speaker 1: that Brent Venables can't have good offense? Here is a
- 19:55Speaker 1: question that comes from Stuart Mandel's mailbag at The Athletic.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I'm just picturing somebody opening. Ben Arbuckle's office door. There's
- 20:05Speaker 1: a pastor. The other guy with the white collar standing there.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Walking him down to the office. I was doing the
- 20:12Speaker 1: last meal thing, too. I got your joke. Stuart Mandel, mailbag.
- 20:18Speaker 1: The other assistant coaches see the power. We've got a
- 20:24Speaker 1: new offensive coordinator, guys. Who's calling plays this week? Stuart Mandel, mailbag.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Ask this question. Which is the better team? Lincoln Riley,
- 20:34Speaker 1: head coach, Brent Venables, defensive coordinator, or Brent Venables, head coach,
- 20:38Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley, offensive coordinator? Which is the better team? I'll
- 20:43Speaker 1: go around the table. Brooks, you first. Who's the better team?
- 20:46Speaker 1: Lincoln Riley, head coach, Brent Venables, defensive coordinator, or Brent Venables,
- 20:51Speaker 1: head coach, Lincoln Riley, offensive coordinator?
- 20:55Speaker 4: I lean Lincoln Riley head coach Brent Venables defensive coordinator.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Here's why I can't go there, Brooks, because Lincoln Riley
- 21:01Speaker 1: has brought in all these good defensive coordinators and none
- 21:04Speaker 1: of them work. And I think right now we question
- 21:07Speaker 1: whether Gary Patterson is going to work, right? Right now, yeah.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Based on early returns. They are early returns.
- 21:12Speaker 4: Based off early returns on Brent Venables as the head coach,
- 21:15Speaker 4: he's brought in all these offensive coordinators.
- 21:17Speaker 1: This is why this is such a tough question. Hats
- 21:21Speaker 1: off to whoever sent that into Stewart's mailbag. Who would
- 21:24Speaker 1: you go with, Forrester?
- 21:25Speaker 3: I don't think this is that tough.
- 21:27Speaker 8: I think Lincoln's got to be the head coach with
- 21:30Speaker 8: Venables as the DC.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Yeah, here's why I would go with Scott here. Did
- 21:34Speaker 1: you just flip? No, I'm saying neither one of them
- 21:38Speaker 1: are appealing. But I'm going to go with Scott. Oh,
- 21:40Speaker 1: you said it too, Lincoln, with Brent. Here's why. Because
- 21:43Speaker 1: at least Lincoln can score some points and win a
- 21:47Speaker 1: track meet.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Yes.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Like, even if, I mean, it's been proven with Brent Venables,
- 21:52Speaker 1: like at Michigan, you keep it close, your quarterback could
- 21:55Speaker 1: still screw it up. Like, I mean, he had kept
- 21:57Speaker 1: that game. His defense had kept them in that game.
- 22:00Speaker 1: All they had to do, Jim, is find a way
- 22:02Speaker 1: to make a drive or hit a big play. And
- 22:03Speaker 1: what's his quarterback do? He goes out and throws a
- 22:05Speaker 1: terrible interception. Defender undercuts the pass. And now Michigan gets
- 22:08Speaker 1: cheap points and you can't win the game. I mean,
- 22:12Speaker 1: at least Lincoln Riley could win you a track meet.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And he did a lot of that at Oklahoma. God,
- 22:17Speaker 1: that was a good first segment. And we're not done yet.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Let me tell you about our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 22:21Speaker 1: And then Brown and I are going to give you
- 22:24Speaker 1: our four votes for the Heisman right now. And you
- 22:27Speaker 1: can get odds on the Heisman Trophy at Hard Rock Bet,
- 22:31Speaker 1: Florida's only legal sports book, therefore the most trustworthy option
- 22:34Speaker 1: in the market. Hard Rock Bet is also available in Arizona,
- 22:36Speaker 1: Colorado with Florida, Illinois, Indiana with Florida, Michigan, New Jersey
- 22:41Speaker 1: with Florida, Ohio, Virginia with Florida, and the great state
- 22:44Speaker 1: of Tennessee. If you're in any of those states, Hard
- 22:47Speaker 1: Rock Bet is available for you. Download their app. It
- 22:50Speaker 1: has new features, app updates, and promos like that. When
- 22:53Speaker 1: you see on your screen, bet five, you get $ 100
- 22:55Speaker 1: in bonus bets. That's for all customers, not just new customers.
- 22:58Speaker 1: And tomorrow, on Thursday, you can look out for the
- 23:01Speaker 1: same game parlay profit boost for the Thursday night game.
- 23:05Speaker 1: What does that mean? I don't know. But you can
- 23:08Speaker 1: find out by going right now to hardrock.bet backslash clay.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Hardrock.bet backslash clay. All right. In this opening segment, you
- 23:17Speaker 1: get four votes. Who are your four Heisman Trophy winners?
- 23:23Speaker 1: people right now if the Heisman started today. If the
- 23:26Speaker 1: Heisman started today, if we were in New York City today,
- 23:29Speaker 1: I'm going to go Trinidad Chambliss. He's going to be
- 23:31Speaker 1: my Heisman Trophy winner. I'm going to give it to
- 23:32Speaker 1: Trinidad Chambliss, and he's narrowly going to beat his in-state rival.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Camario Taylor, Super Camario. Darian Mensah, the ball has barely
- 23:41Speaker 1: touched the ground for him, but they barely played anybody either.
- 23:43Speaker 1: And then I got Jaden Ball. Wow. Number four. Jaden Ball,
- 23:47Speaker 1: second leading rusher in the country. He's going on the
- 23:49Speaker 1: road in the SEC. Had a terrific game. We haven't
- 23:52Speaker 1: given the Heisman to a running back since Derrick Henry
- 23:55Speaker 1: in 2015. Yeah, I know. And he only won the
- 23:57Speaker 1: Heisman because Jake Coker was so good at giving him
- 24:00Speaker 1: the football.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Wow.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and because all Alabama Devils run, I mean, they're
- 24:05Speaker 1: 395 carries. I don't think Jaden Ball's going to get there,
- 24:07Speaker 1: but Jaden Ball's been terrific already this season. Ironically, I've
- 24:11Speaker 1: got the same four. Different order. Trinidad first. I, too,
- 24:14Speaker 1: went first name. Mensah, last name, second. Ball, I put
- 24:18Speaker 1: him third. And Camario, I went first name as well there.
- 24:22Speaker 1: I don't know why you went Taylor and not Camario,
- 24:24Speaker 1: the first name. I don't know. Trinidad, Mensah, Baugh, and
- 24:27Speaker 1: Camario for me. Well, that's crazy we've got the same four.
- 24:30Speaker 1: This is rising. I thought Baugh was going to be
- 24:32Speaker 1: the off-the-beaten-path one for me. Yeah, I mean, me too.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I thought for sure you'd have Jeremiah Smith in there,
- 24:36Speaker 1: who I had to consider. I went with Baugh, really,
- 24:40Speaker 1: instead of Jeremiah Smith. Yep. I mean, you could go
- 24:44Speaker 1: a lot of routes there, but both of us have
- 24:46Speaker 1: a Trinidad number one. Here's what I like about John Summerall.
- 24:48Speaker 1: You know what he says?
- 24:49Speaker 6: What?
- 24:49Speaker 1: You know what he tells his offensive coordinator? Work the cut.
- 24:52Speaker 8: What?
- 24:52Speaker 1: Work the cut. He does say that a lot. Work
- 24:54Speaker 1: the cut. And you know what working the cut is?
- 24:56Speaker 1: What's that? If you don't know what to call, hand
- 24:58Speaker 1: it off to Ball. Let's see if this guy can
- 24:59Speaker 1: get three yards. That's what Summerall told him. He's like...
- 25:02Speaker 1: If you're in doubt on what to do, hand it
- 25:04Speaker 1: off to Bob. Buster Faulkner was in doubt. There's the headline.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I thought that guy invented offense. So both of these
- 25:11Speaker 1: guys rising with a bullet. Trinidad got to go on
- 25:15Speaker 1: the road this week. Mensah's eventually going to play somebody good.
- 25:18Speaker 1: It's a good four right there. No arch. No Jeremiah Smith. Right. Interesting.
- 25:23Speaker 1: So that's our hardrock.bet backslash clay. Go and get your
- 25:28Speaker 1: Heisman votes in right now. Maybe you get some good
- 25:30Speaker 1: odds right now on Bob before it goes. I mean,
- 25:33Speaker 1: I don't know where Jaden Baez, but you could get
- 25:34Speaker 1: a deal on him. OK, there is a show on
- 25:36Speaker 1: Sporting State that comes on before us. The name of
- 25:38Speaker 1: that show is Hutton and Withrow. Hutton and Withrow. Did
- 25:43Speaker 1: I say his last name correctly? Hutton or Withrow? I
- 25:46Speaker 1: got Hutton right. I can do Hutton. With throw? Yeah.
- 25:49Speaker 1: What did you call him that one time? And now
- 25:50Speaker 1: it's stuck in your head.
- 25:51Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I think I called him went throw or something. Oh,
- 25:55Speaker 1: there was something else. I can't remember. Anyway, go ahead.
- 25:57Speaker 1: On their show this morning, they had the five worst
- 26:02Speaker 1: vibes in college football. Bad vibe programs right now. Bad
- 26:05Speaker 1: vibe programs. So like we like to do sometimes. That's right.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Do your own list. We like to take somebody else's list.
- 26:12Speaker 1: And cut it to shreds. We'll do it with our
- 26:14Speaker 1: friends on Sport and State when we come back here
- 26:16Speaker 1: on the next round. The next round rolls on. Presented
- 26:20Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet on Sport and State. Steve Sarkeesian.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Hard to remember. Texas is number one in the country,
- 26:26Speaker 1: by the way. Ole Miss got a lot of love.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Georgia's really good. There's other teams that are trending up
- 26:33Speaker 1: right now. But Texas sitting there after a lull game
- 26:36Speaker 1: this past week coming off the Ohio State win is
- 26:39Speaker 1: number one in the country. And they take that heavy,
- 26:42Speaker 1: heavy cross of being number one on their back in
- 26:46Speaker 1: the Knoxville, Tennessee this weekend. And they go there with
- 26:49Speaker 1: a quarterback that's catching criticism. Here is Arch Manning, not
- 26:54Speaker 1: on our Heisman list, Arch Manning criticism discussion from Steve Sarkeesian.
- 27:02Speaker 10: I think at the end of the day, you're the
- 27:03Speaker 10: quarterback at Texas. Your last name's Manning. Yeah. Regardless of
- 27:09Speaker 10: what you do, you're going to get critiqued. You're going
- 27:11Speaker 10: to get criticized. I'm the head coach at Texas. Regardless
- 27:15Speaker 10: of what I do, I'm going to get critiqued. I'm
- 27:17Speaker 10: going to get criticized. Who really gives a crap? Just
- 27:20Speaker 10: go play, man.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Go be you.
- 27:21Speaker 10: You can't try to be something you're not. I want
- 27:24Speaker 10: him to be him, and I want him to be
- 27:26Speaker 10: him every Saturday. I want him to be him every series.
- 27:29Speaker 10: Who he is is an engaging leader. Who he is
- 27:32Speaker 10: is a guy that picks other people up. Who he
- 27:34Speaker 10: is is a guy that... doesn't play the position like
- 27:38Speaker 10: a robot. He uses his legs to his advantage, but
- 27:41Speaker 10: he doesn't use his legs all of the time. And
- 27:43Speaker 10: we don't call design runs for him all the time,
- 27:46Speaker 10: but I want him to be Arch Manning. I don't
- 27:48Speaker 10: want him to be Archie. I don't want him to
- 27:49Speaker 10: be Peyton. I don't want him to be Eli. I
- 27:52Speaker 10: don't want him to be Colt McCoy.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I don't want him to be Vince Young.
- 27:54Speaker 10: I want him to be Arch Manning. And Arch Manning
- 27:56Speaker 10: is plenty good enough for us to put us in
- 27:58Speaker 10: position to win.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I like the way he answered that.
- 28:01Speaker 4: I agree.
- 28:02Speaker 1: What you what you don't see on my sheet of
- 28:04Speaker 1: 13 cuts today is an Arch Manning cut. Since the A.I. incident,
- 28:10Speaker 1: Forrester would agree with me here. Arch Manning has been
- 28:13Speaker 1: short answered and as vanilla as you possibly could be
- 28:16Speaker 1: in his interviews.
- 28:18Speaker 8: Not only that, Texas didn't even put it up that.
- 28:22Speaker 8: They made him available, but you had to be there
- 28:24Speaker 8: to get it.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I mean, Arch wasn't great before, though, was he, Scott? No.
- 28:28Speaker 1: But he was coming out of his shell. He was
- 28:31Speaker 1: starting to show a little bit more personality.
- 28:33Speaker 3: It depends on what he got asked.
- 28:34Speaker 8: If you asked him about a teammate, he would give
- 28:38Speaker 8: good answers. If you asked him anything about his own
- 28:42Speaker 8: game or anything like that.
- 28:44Speaker 1: His new PR plan now is, I'm not going to
- 28:47Speaker 1: give you guys anything. That's right. I'll just say nothing.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I'm going to play quarterback. That's right. There's a First Amendment.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I'm entitled to free speech, and I'm entitled also not
- 28:58Speaker 1: to give anything. I'm going to take the fifth. I'm
- 29:00Speaker 1: going to not say anything. XXXY, speaking of free speech,
- 29:04Speaker 1: and that'll get us now to our discussion about bad
- 29:07Speaker 1: vibe programs. Founded by Jennifer Say, the former national champion
- 29:10Speaker 1: gymnast and former Levi's brand president, she walked away from
- 29:14Speaker 1: a corporate job rather than say something she didn't believe in. Well,
- 29:17Speaker 1: she started XXXY Athletics. Instead, here's their mission, in their words,
- 29:21Speaker 1: empower female athletes and take a stand for fair competition.

- 30:09Speaker 1: that launched a movement. That's right. Just like the Boston
- 30:12Speaker 1: Tea Party. People were throwing t-shirts in the water. And
- 30:14Speaker 1: Clay is just learning about me about this. I always have...
- 30:18Speaker 1: an opinion about other people's work. That's right. Can you
- 30:20Speaker 1: give me the New York Balls logo again that's up
- 30:23Speaker 1: there or the Nashville Balls logo that's back up there?
- 30:25Speaker 1: You said New York because it's a little Knicks looking. Yeah,
- 30:28Speaker 1: it's the Nashville skyline back there. My problem with that
- 30:32Speaker 1: logo is the ball sack is ripped. Yeah, I wondered why.
- 30:35Speaker 1: That seems to be painful. Yeah, I wondered why. That
- 30:37Speaker 1: would hurt. Yeah, the netting is ripped to where I
- 30:39Speaker 1: can see both balls sitting inside of that. You would
- 30:42Speaker 1: not want that to happen in real life.
- 30:45Speaker 2: One sits higher than the other as well.
- 30:48Speaker 1: That is actually biologically correct. Interesting. Yeah. Feel free next
- 30:53Speaker 1: commercial break to go check it out.
- 30:55Speaker 2: There's not enough time to go check.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Bathroom on either side.
- 30:58Speaker 2: We only have two minutes in between segments and it's
- 31:00Speaker 2: a minute each way.
- 31:01Speaker 1: You can step into the ball check room right to
- 31:03Speaker 1: your left there. I didn't know we had a ball
- 31:05Speaker 1: check room. Well, it's a coat check room. You'll still
- 31:07Speaker 1: get a ticket. All right. I haven't even seen this
- 31:10Speaker 1: list yet. I acted like I was going to cut
- 31:12Speaker 1: it to shreds. I may agree 100% with this. Oh,
- 31:14Speaker 1: on his bad vibes? Yeah. I didn't say you would
- 31:17Speaker 1: cut it to shreds. I just thought I wanted to
- 31:19Speaker 1: see if you agreed with it. Okay. Chad Withrow puts
- 31:23Speaker 1: a lot of effort into this. Yeah. I teased going
- 31:26Speaker 1: to break we would cut it to shreds. Okay. This
- 31:29Speaker 1: is Withrow's college football programs with the worst vibes. Man,
- 31:34Speaker 1: this is a good-looking graphic. Brooks, why don't you build
- 31:37Speaker 1: graphics like this, man? Some would say I do. Some
- 31:43Speaker 1: would say you do it for Sporting State, too. Yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 1: It does look like a Brooks graphic. There was somebody
- 31:50Speaker 1: else who put a watermark on at Brooks and make
- 31:51Speaker 1: it their own. Don't worry. How about that? Did you
- 31:54Speaker 1: see that yesterday? That guy took Brooks graphic, took his
- 31:56Speaker 1: watermark off and put his own watermark on like Brooks
- 31:59Speaker 1: had next round live watermark on. I mean, we've had
- 32:02Speaker 1: stuff stolen and that happens all the time, but for
- 32:04Speaker 1: a dude to take a watermark off and then put
- 32:06Speaker 1: his own one on there, It was amazing.
- 32:08Speaker 4: And he just removed the background. That's all he did.
- 32:10Speaker 4: He photoshopped. He AI'd in a different background. That's pretty crazy.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Keep in mind, though, I'm literally stealing this segment from
- 32:16Speaker 1: another show that was on two hours ago. You're stealing
- 32:19Speaker 1: it from Brooks. Perfect credit. And it's under the same platform. Okay.
- 32:22Speaker 10: All right.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Go ahead. Here is the worst vibes list. Arkansas 1,
- 32:26Speaker 1: NC State 2, Maryland 3, Colorado 4, Oklahoma 5. Your disagreement.
- 32:35Speaker 10: Where?
- 32:35Speaker 2: Where?
- 32:35Speaker 1: My first disagreement is NC State. That was a horrible loss. Yeah.
- 32:41Speaker 5: Horrible loss.
- 32:42Speaker 1: And now they've had a couple of them. But I
- 32:45Speaker 1: don't know if they make the five worst vibes. The
- 32:47Speaker 1: key here is worst vibes of college football programs. Colorado
- 32:52Speaker 1: is trending that direction. Boy, they got smoked by Northwestern.
- 32:57Speaker 1: They did.
- 32:58Speaker 6: 41-7.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Now, I need Withrow on the line here to know,
- 33:01Speaker 1: is he talking about just coming out of this weekend,
- 33:03Speaker 1: or is he talking about Do you know Brooks? Yes.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Just this weekend? Yeah, he does one of these every week. Okay.
- 33:10Speaker 1: So it's not overall.
- 33:11Speaker 2: No.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Just this weekend. Okay.
- 33:13Speaker 4: Because he actually had Colorado as best vibes after week one.
- 33:17Speaker 4: That's funny how things change.
- 33:18Speaker 1: It is funny how things change. So this is every week.
- 33:20Speaker 1: This is an every week thing. Okay. Then you can't
- 33:22Speaker 1: disagree with NC State being on the list. I mean,
- 33:24Speaker 1: that's pretty bad vibes. But overall, no. But Arkansas is,
- 33:29Speaker 1: if you're just going where the program is right now,
- 33:32Speaker 1: Arkansas is the worst vibes. Of any program that should
- 33:35Speaker 1: be winning football games. I don't know. I don't know
- 33:39Speaker 1: what NC State. Yes, Arkansas is terrible. They're going to
- 33:41Speaker 1: be number one on this. I mean, Brooks, whatever Withrow
- 33:45Speaker 1: sends you, I would say go ahead and start with
- 33:47Speaker 1: Arkansas at number one on your template every week because
- 33:50Speaker 1: I don't know how they're going to pull out of this.
- 33:51Speaker 1: And Maryland, too. That's a year-long thing. If you're not
- 33:54Speaker 1: just going week to week, just overall bad vibes of
- 33:57Speaker 1: college football programs, those two are on your top five list.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Colorado is getting there.
- 34:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 34:04Speaker 1: I mean, Deion's time seems to be approaching.
- 34:07Speaker 4: And did you see overnight where they suspended several players?
- 34:11Speaker 1: No, I think they're no longer on the team. Some
- 34:14Speaker 1: are suspended. I think some are actually off the team.
- 34:16Speaker 4: And there was some– I read where they apparently, after
- 34:20Speaker 4: the Northwestern game, he ripped into a few players because he–
- 34:23Speaker 4: there were players smiling and cutting up and laughing after
- 34:26Speaker 4: they got beat 38-7.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's a– I do like Coach Prime, his–
- 34:32Speaker 1: what he expects out of his players i really do
- 34:35Speaker 1: like that part of him and i just don't know
- 34:39Speaker 1: if colorado is going to give him enough for some
- 34:41Speaker 1: reason it's not working like i thought it was going
- 34:43Speaker 1: to work i thought players would flock to deon sanders
- 34:47Speaker 1: and it's just not happening um by the way jordan
- 34:51Speaker 1: one thing we hadn't talked a lot about jordan seaton
- 34:52Speaker 1: did not have a good game against ole miss i
- 34:54Speaker 1: mean that was supposed to be that's the for those
- 34:56Speaker 1: that don't know the left tackle that LSU way overpaid for.
- 35:00Speaker 1: From Colorado. From Colorado, who's a sophomore now. Did not
- 35:04Speaker 1: have a good game. And he shows up in a
- 35:06Speaker 1: couple of clips where he just looks lost. I do
- 35:10Speaker 1: want to focus on number two at NC State, though.
- 35:12Speaker 1: You say, like, ah, bad vibes this week, not bad
- 35:14Speaker 1: vibes overall. And, again, I'll say the same thing I
- 35:17Speaker 1: said about Maryland and maybe South Carolina. I don't know
- 35:19Speaker 1: what NC State fans want out of a football program, Jim.
- 35:22Speaker 1: At least eight or nine wins. Well, they get that
- 35:24Speaker 1: a lot, and they should be happy. Because here's Dave Doran.
- 35:28Speaker 1: All right. There's a lot of numbers here, but just
- 35:30Speaker 1: stick with me and see if you find a trend.
- 35:32Speaker 1: His first year, he was three and nine. We'll throw
- 35:34Speaker 1: that one out. That's the first year. All right. After that,
- 35:36Speaker 1: eight and five, seven and six, seven and six, nine
- 35:39Speaker 1: and four, nine and four, four and eight, eight and four,
- 35:41Speaker 1: nine and three, eight and five, nine and four, six
- 35:43Speaker 1: and seven, eight and five. Yeah. I gave you a
- 35:46Speaker 1: lot of eights right there. I mean, that's an NC
- 35:47Speaker 1: State program to me, though. So you just, you think
- 35:50Speaker 1: NC State, I mean, I don't know. I mean, I
- 35:52Speaker 1: don't think any fan base wants that. That's what I'm saying.
- 35:54Speaker 1: No fan base just, and now he's one and two.
- 35:57Speaker 1: So this is going to trend towards, we're not even
- 35:59Speaker 1: going to get to eight and five this year. Okay,
- 36:01Speaker 1: let's just, let's lose the Withrow graphic. All right. He
- 36:04Speaker 1: does that every week. I misunderstood that. That's coming out
- 36:07Speaker 1: of the weekend, yes. Overall worst five in major college football.
- 36:12Speaker 1: The five programs with the worst vibes right now. Well,
- 36:15Speaker 1: you've got Arkansas is one. Arkansas is one. I mean,
- 36:18Speaker 1: their board of trustees had to release a statement. saying
- 36:21Speaker 1: that they're not as competitive as they want to be.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Now Hunter Urachek is making the rounds today. He did
- 36:25Speaker 1: an interview, I think, with Brett McMurphy, saying, hey, our
- 36:27Speaker 1: football program's not where we want it. So you got,
- 36:30Speaker 1: I mean, this dude has coached three games, won one
- 36:32Speaker 1: of them, but he's coached three games, and he's already
- 36:35Speaker 1: got his board of trustees and his athletics director having
- 36:37Speaker 1: to say, we know we're not where we need to be.
- 36:39Speaker 1: It could not be worse vibes than Arkansas. They're going
- 36:42Speaker 1: to retire the trophy. Maryland's a Big Ten team. It's
- 36:44Speaker 1: on that list. Rutgers is a Big Ten team. Even
- 36:49Speaker 1: though they played USC close, I think they're on that list.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I would agree. Of just bad vibes. Purdue seems to
- 36:57Speaker 1: be trending up. Yeah. A little bit. They're traditionally on
- 37:03Speaker 1: this list. Another SEC team, I don't think you can.
- 37:08Speaker 1: North Carolina coming off the loss. That's who I just said. Oh,
- 37:12Speaker 1: did you? North Carolina. Coming off the loss to Clemson
- 37:15Speaker 1: and with everything that's going on and you've got your
- 37:17Speaker 1: son that's the defensive coordinator. No more. He's got to go.
- 37:22Speaker 9: He resigned.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I know. That's what I'm saying. By the way, they
- 37:25Speaker 1: have asked the school for $ 9 million from the endowment
- 37:30Speaker 1: of the institution to be put into the athletic department
- 37:34Speaker 1: so that they can make ends meet this year. That's
- 37:37Speaker 1: big news. North Carolina's got a lot of money. It's
- 37:40Speaker 1: a big brand, and they're getting $ 9 million, asking for
- 37:43Speaker 1: $ 9 million from the endowment, which I don't know if
- 37:47Speaker 1: what I saw was correct, but their endowment is $ 8. 2 billion.
- 37:50Speaker 1: That seems low for North Carolina for me.
- 37:52Speaker 6: Low, huh?
- 37:53Speaker 1: Yeah. And that's a 37% increase on their endowment because
- 37:57Speaker 1: they invested in SpaceX and got a big kickback from that. Oh,
- 38:01Speaker 1: that's a good investment.
- 38:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:03Speaker 1: So they.
- 38:06Speaker 1: So basically they're a broke program is what you're saying. Well,
- 38:08Speaker 1: not broke, but they're asking for a loan. $ 9 million
- 38:11Speaker 1: from the endowment just to make ends meet. I mean,
- 38:15Speaker 1: who hasn't asked for $ 9 million from the endowment? I
- 38:17Speaker 1: wonder what that is in our terms. Yeah, they did
- 38:21Speaker 1: have it. So an initial investment of a few million
- 38:24Speaker 1: dollars 15 years ago was a $ 1 billion share sale
- 38:27Speaker 1: for them. What an investment by North Carolina. I wonder
- 38:32Speaker 1: how many other programs did that. I don't know. $ 17
- 38:35Speaker 1: billion is what I'm seeing. Not another SEC school. Oh,
- 38:37Speaker 1: Chapel Hill is $ 8. 2 billion. I'm sorry. That's right. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:40Speaker 1: So the overall $ 17 billion. I mean, South Carolina's getting there,
- 38:45Speaker 1: but I don't know if I'd put them on overall
- 38:47Speaker 1: bad vibes right now. But South Carolina's getting there. Auburn's
- 38:50Speaker 1: trending up. It would have been in the discussion last year.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 38:53Speaker 5: I mean.
- 38:54Speaker 1: For some reason, I don't know how many of the
- 38:56Speaker 1: bad plays John Cohen called this weekend, but boy, John Cohen,
- 38:59Speaker 1: you said it yourself the other day very well. John
- 39:01Speaker 1: Cohen is wearing this loss. He is wearing this loss.
- 39:04Speaker 1: And somebody's got to explain to me, I know you
- 39:06Speaker 1: always want to have a scapegoat, and you can't make
- 39:09Speaker 1: it Alex Gullish because he literally only coached his third
- 39:11Speaker 1: game in your uniform. John Summerall is going out of
- 39:15Speaker 1: his way to.
- 39:19Speaker 1: To make it appear that John Cohen pissed him off
- 39:22Speaker 1: somewhere along the way. Yeah, I mean, if you just
- 39:24Speaker 1: watch all the volumes of videos that Florida is pumping out,
- 39:28Speaker 1: it makes it look like John Summerall was... coaching a
- 39:30Speaker 1: very personal game Saturday night. Yeah, I think I'm okay
- 39:33Speaker 1: with South Carolina being in there. That would be the
- 39:35Speaker 1: five bad vibes. I'm sure we're missing one on the fly.
- 39:38Speaker 1: I'd love to chat, but Arkansas, Maryland, Rutgers, North Carolina,
- 39:41Speaker 1: and South Carolina. FSU. Oh, that's right. Bump everybody down.
- 39:46Speaker 1: They're right behind Arkansas. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Arkansas, FSU. Thank you, Russell.
- 39:50Speaker 1: We missed FSU. Arkansas, FSU, Maryland, Rutgers, and North Carolina
- 39:54Speaker 1: of the power conferences. Yeah, I think that's fair. Yeah.
- 39:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Maybe at some point Colorado ahead of North Carolina, but
- 40:02Speaker 1: that's the bad vibes. Absolutely. When we come back, we
- 40:07Speaker 1: will continue. Our conversation, drop a little NFL in because
- 40:11Speaker 1: bad news in the quarterback world. Top of the hour,
- 40:14Speaker 1: back to college football with a slice of NFL. Mike Johnson,
- 40:18Speaker 1: Alabama great, Atlanta Falcon great, joins the show for hour
- 40:22Speaker 1: two here on Sporting State as we roll on today.
- 40:25Speaker 1: This is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet
- 40:28Speaker 1: right here on Sporting State. We're back in a moment. Hey,
- 40:31Speaker 1: bad news, bad news for New York Giants fans. Good
- 40:36Speaker 1: news for a former Tennessee Titan, a guy who eats
- 40:40Speaker 1: the banana without peeling it. Will Levis has been picked
- 40:43Speaker 1: up by the Giants because Jackson Dart's knee injury is
- 40:47Speaker 1: worse than expected and is possibly going to cost him
- 40:50Speaker 1: the entire season. So what a roller coaster of reports
- 40:55Speaker 1: that was because it started out yesterday. coming off Monday
- 40:59Speaker 1: Night Football, as Ian Rappaport and the NFL Network guys
- 41:02Speaker 1: reporting not as bad as it appeared. Sprained MCL, going
- 41:05Speaker 1: to have it reevaluated, probably not going to miss the year.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Then there were the reports that the Giants had to
- 41:12Speaker 1: basically take not just his helmet, but his jersey away.
- 41:15Speaker 1: He wanted to go back in the game so badly.
- 41:17Speaker 1: They weren't going to let him do it. The doctors
- 41:19Speaker 1: were not. And then you end the day with Adam
- 41:21Speaker 1: Sheffer reporting, Yeah, not so good that this may cost
- 41:24Speaker 1: him the season, looking at season-ending surgery. So of the
- 41:27Speaker 1: three major quarterback injuries of Sunday, that one clearly, or
- 41:31Speaker 1: Sunday and Monday, that one clearly appears to be the
- 41:33Speaker 1: worst one. And boy, that looked like a playoff team.
- 41:36Speaker 1: I agree. And then they lose dart and are non-competitive
- 41:40Speaker 1: against the Rams. And Jameis Winston looked unprepared, but he's
- 41:45Speaker 1: the starter now. And here comes Will Levis, former Titan.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Good luck. Banana peel eating will love us. And he's
- 41:54Speaker 1: going to get a shot maybe to compete and eventually
- 41:56Speaker 1: be the Giants starter. But you know that you've now
- 41:58Speaker 1: got Giants fans, and this is such an overreaction, knee
- 42:01Speaker 1: jerk to stuff like this. But understandably, with Dart having
- 42:04Speaker 1: had a couple injuries now, saying can his style of
- 42:07Speaker 1: play hold up in the NFL? Like does he run
- 42:10Speaker 1: too much now? And that's who Jackson Dart is, so
- 42:12Speaker 1: you don't want to dial that back as much. Brown,
- 42:15Speaker 1: I would say it's a valid question. Not just for
- 42:19Speaker 1: Jackson Dart, but for anywhere in the NFL. We're about
- 42:22Speaker 1: to kick off week three in the NFL. The Giants,
- 42:26Speaker 1: the Bears, the Seahawks, the Commanders, the Giants, and the
- 42:29Speaker 1: Falcons will all have started two quarterbacks by the time
- 42:33Speaker 1: the weekend is done. That's six teams already, and we
- 42:36Speaker 1: have not played a third game yet. I know, and...
- 42:41Speaker 1: It's never... Dart's a runner. Williams is a runner. Jaden
- 42:44Speaker 1: Daniels is a runner. I put Dart on here twice.
- 42:47Speaker 1: I don't know why. Well, he's been hurt twice. Penix
- 42:50Speaker 1: is a runner-ish.
- 42:52Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Tua's not. Darnall's not anymore. But some of those are runners,
- 42:58Speaker 1: and you just put your body at risk. Well, the
- 43:02Speaker 1: wild thing is it's never been safer to play quarterback
- 43:05Speaker 1: in the NFL. All the rules protect the quarterback. Unless
- 43:07Speaker 1: you run. Unless you run. When you pull it down
- 43:09Speaker 1: and start to leave the pocket, that's when they don't
- 43:11Speaker 1: protect you anymore. And that's when you see why they
- 43:14Speaker 1: protect them in the pocket. Because as much as I
- 43:17Speaker 1: get frustrated with personal fouls and roughing the passer in
- 43:20Speaker 1: the NFL, do you want to watch? I say it
- 43:23Speaker 1: all the time. Do you want to watch this product?
- 43:25Speaker 1: I turned off Monday Night Football the other night as
- 43:26Speaker 1: soon as Winston came in. Yeah, I was like.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Yep.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Game over. I know who's winning this game.
- 43:30Speaker 5: Yep.
- 43:31Speaker 1: I mean, and especially when Malik Neighbors went out and
- 43:33Speaker 1: Winston was in, I'm like, I don't have to watch
- 43:34Speaker 1: the rest of this. If it were my team, if
- 43:36Speaker 1: I were Lance, sure, I would have watched it. But
- 43:38Speaker 1: I had better stuff to do on Monday night than
- 43:39Speaker 1: watch a backup quarterback try to beat the best team
- 43:41Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 43:42Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 1: One of those things is to tell us about Clay
- 43:44Speaker 1: Travis Law. Clay Travis Law. Listen, life comes at you fast.
- 43:47Speaker 1: The old saying goes, right? Things can happen. You're not
- 43:50Speaker 1: prepared for them. Clay Travis Law, that's where he steps in, right,
- 43:55Speaker 1: and can take care of you when those crazy situations happen.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Clay Travis Law. Accidents just don't wait for a good time.
- 44:02Speaker 1: A wreck, a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly,
- 44:05Speaker 1: you're fighting an insurance company. They do this every single day.
- 44:08Speaker 1: You don't. It is why Clay started Clay Travis Law.
- 44:12Speaker 1: He built the firm around one idea. People deserve someone
- 44:15Speaker 1: willing to pay attention, ask the hard questions, and push
- 44:18Speaker 1: back when things don't add up. We're talking about experienced
- 44:21Speaker 1: trial attorneys who bring the fights, corporations and insurers. They
- 44:24Speaker 1: are based in Nashville. They are trusted across. The country.
- 44:28Speaker 1: I'm talking about car and truck wrecks, ride share accidents,
- 44:30Speaker 1: medical malpractice, premises liability, product liability. If you were wronged,
- 44:34Speaker 1: they want to hear about it. The one thing they
- 44:36Speaker 1: promise you, above all else, is honesty. They don't sugarcoat
- 44:40Speaker 1: your case. You'll hear what it's actually worth, not what
- 44:42Speaker 1: you want to hear. And that's a free case evaluation,
- 44:45Speaker 1: by the way. They're not going to charge you for that.

- 45:21Speaker 1: All the time. Not that.
- 45:22Speaker 4: I think it's... based off your demographic.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Okay. So Brooks is saying, yes, Jim, it is because
- 45:28Speaker 1: you're old.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Mine are typically political. Somebody's trying to either get me
- 45:32Speaker 2: to contribute to their campaign or call me on their phone.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I'm getting those too. How did I get in on
- 45:38Speaker 1: that list? There's been some sort of data leak or
- 45:40Speaker 1: something because I get a lot of payday loan stuff.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Do y'all get those calls? I don't get payday loans.
- 45:45Speaker 1: Not necessarily payday loans, but like... predatory loans yeah predatory
- 45:49Speaker 1: loans like uh you can borrow up and my i
- 45:52Speaker 1: don't use voicemail in fact my voicemail message if you
- 45:55Speaker 1: call me says i don't check my voicemail text me
- 45:59Speaker 1: if you need me yeah but i need to change
- 46:02Speaker 1: mine because i don't check my voicemail either that's right
- 46:04Speaker 1: my phone is all the spam calls all the spam
- 46:06Speaker 1: calls go to voicemail and i got this message the
- 46:08Speaker 1: other day my voicemail was 100 full uh By the way,
- 46:12Speaker 1: don't care. I'm not going to check it. It can
- 46:13Speaker 1: stay 100% full. Now people can't leave the voicemails. Yeah,
- 46:17Speaker 1: I don't. Look, I mean, as we talk about this,
- 46:18Speaker 1: I'm getting one right here. Yeah, I tried. It says
- 46:21Speaker 1: maybe this is Kayla. This is not going to be Kayla.
- 46:23Speaker 1: You know what it's going to be? Yeah, it's going
- 46:25Speaker 1: to be this right here.
- 46:26Speaker 3: You should answer it.
- 46:27Speaker 1: I am.
- 46:28Speaker 3: We can compare different amounts and payments to see what.
- 46:31Speaker 1: I get this all the time. Yeah, yeah. And they
- 46:34Speaker 1: want me to press two. I'm going to press two. No, don't.
- 46:36Speaker 1: I mean, now you're just falling into it. By pressing two,
- 46:39Speaker 1: you've now opened up to spam.
- 46:41Speaker 3: How are you?
- 46:43Speaker 1: Are you calling Ryan Brown? Excuse me. Are you calling
- 46:47Speaker 1: Ryan Brown? Thank you very much for calling. This is
- 46:50Speaker 1: the Shelby County Sheriff's Department. Ryan is deceased. Do you
- 46:55Speaker 1: know him? How do you know Ryan Brown? Excuse me, ma'am.
- 46:59Speaker 3: Don't worry about it.
- 47:00Speaker 1: He's deceased, right? No, no, he's deceased.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Don't worry about it.
- 47:06Speaker 1: That might be the worst. Don't worry about it. I'm
- 47:08Speaker 1: outside your house. Don't worry about it. Don't worry about it.
- 47:12Speaker 1: He's deceased. Did she hang up immediately? Oh, yeah, she
- 47:14Speaker 1: hung up. She didn't want to deal with the Shelby
- 47:15Speaker 1: County Sheriff's Department. Call back. I get some about how.
- 47:19Speaker 2: Yeah, call back and tell her that you're pursuing charges.
- 47:22Speaker 1: Call back. It's the FBI and this phone's actually part
- 47:25Speaker 1: of the murder trial. How do you have this number?
- 47:28Speaker 1: She said, don't worry about it. He's deceased. Oh, don't
- 47:30Speaker 1: worry about that. Do you need a loan by chance? See,
- 47:33Speaker 1: I don't click on anything because I'm afraid if I
- 47:35Speaker 1: click on it, people are going to steal my Facebook again.
- 47:37Speaker 1: I'm going to be a cryptocurrency guy again.
- 47:41Speaker 2: There was a scam a few years back where it
- 47:43Speaker 2: would be an automated voice. And it would ask you
- 47:47Speaker 2: a question, and people would say yes, or they would
- 47:50Speaker 2: answer the phone with yes, and then they would call back,
- 47:54Speaker 2: usually an elderly person, and say, it's like we've got
- 47:57Speaker 2: your recording of you agreeing to pay X amount for this.
- 48:01Speaker 1: That's right. They've gotten pretty sophisticated with it. Basically, it's like, yes,
- 48:04Speaker 1: and you're signing off. You're on a $ 15- whatever- thousand- dollar loan or
- 48:08Speaker 1: this and that. You've agreed to it. So I just
- 48:11Speaker 1: don't respond to it at all. And I get one like, hey,
- 48:15Speaker 1: is your property at 1262 Waverly Street? I get that
- 48:18Speaker 1: all the time.
- 48:18Speaker 3: That's what I was just going to say.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I never touch that one. I'm like... You know what
- 48:22Speaker 1: I respond? They're like, do you want to buy it?
- 48:23Speaker 1: I say, $ 2 million cash. Every time I respond. In
- 48:27Speaker 1: a brown bag. I mark bills.
- 48:28Speaker 3: $ 2 million cash.
- 48:29Speaker 4: I've been getting window replacement calls and texts like crazy
- 48:33Speaker 4: since May. Like when I put my old house on
- 48:35Speaker 4: the market. I mean, it was just nonstop, like berated
- 48:39Speaker 4: with window replacement.
- 48:41Speaker 2: I've got someone... That wants me to refinance my house.
- 48:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I'm very upset by that.
- 48:45Speaker 1: What's your problem with that?
- 48:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a one-bedroom apartment that I rent.
- 48:50Speaker 1: It's got sewage in the toilet.
- 48:52Speaker 2: Which I had a house.
- 48:52Speaker 1: And then, of course, all the erectile dysfunction. You guys
- 48:55Speaker 1: are all getting that, right? No. No. I'm kidding. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Me either. Me either.
- 49:02Speaker 2: You signed up for that one.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Speaking of still having his fastball, how about Jacob Mizorowski
- 49:09Speaker 1: of the Milwaukee Brewers? He, the lowest batting average allowed
- 49:16Speaker 1: ever in Major League Baseball history. Look at the name.
- 49:19Speaker 9: He.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Batters against him this year, hitting. 150 Brownie. That's going
- 49:24Speaker 1: to break the Major League record set by Pedro Martinez,
- 49:28Speaker 1: who is a. 167. Louis Tiant, so old it's black
- 49:32Speaker 1: and white pictures. He used to turn his back on
- 49:34Speaker 1: the batter. He did for the Red Sox back in
- 49:36Speaker 1: the day. Nolan Ryan on there twice, 171 in back-to-back years. Verlander,
- 49:42Speaker 1: who will make his last start this Saturday for the Tigers, 172.
- 49:47Speaker 1: Another guy who I can't read his name, and another
- 49:49Speaker 1: guy I don't care about. That's an amazing list, and
- 49:53Speaker 1: Miz is right there at the top of that, and
- 49:56Speaker 1: that's pretty crazy. Pretty crazy. That's wild. Also pretty crazy.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Keep this in mind for your NFL schedule this weekend.
- 50:04Speaker 1: If you're going to hard rock bet to make a wager,
- 50:07Speaker 1: if you're in one of those states, there's a nor'easter.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Is it nor'eastern? Nor'easter. I said it right the first time. Nor'easter.
- 50:16Speaker 1: There's a nor'easter blowing through the northeast this weekend that's
- 50:22Speaker 1: going to impact the end of the Major League Baseball season.
- 50:25Speaker 1: which is going to force a lot of wild, wild
- 50:28Speaker 1: card scenarios, tie-breaking scenarios. But more importantly, on the Saturday
- 50:33Speaker 1: college football and then the Sunday NFL games, keep an
- 50:36Speaker 1: eye out on the weather that could impact some of
- 50:39Speaker 1: the games. You may want to jump on some numbers early. Yeah,
- 50:41Speaker 1: get some unders for a nor'easter. Maybe some nor'easter unders
- 50:45Speaker 1: quickly with our friends at Hard Rock Bet, if you're
- 50:48Speaker 1: in a state where it's legal, to get ready for
- 50:50Speaker 1: the weekend. And I guess I've got to talk about it.
- 50:54Speaker 1: The Tampa Bay Rays won the American League East last night.
- 50:56Speaker 1: I noticed your shirt today. You got the Rays shirt on.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Good job out of you guys. My team won the
- 51:01Speaker 1: American League East last night. Where did they do it?
- 51:04Speaker 1: In freaking Yankee Stadium. Is that the name of it now?
- 51:07Speaker 1: They went into freaking Yankee Stadium, won the second part
- 51:10Speaker 1: of the doubleheader. They win the American League East for
- 51:12Speaker 1: the first time since 2021 to do the champagne celebration
- 51:17Speaker 1: in the Yankees visiting locker room. It's amazing for a
- 51:21Speaker 1: franchise that spends as little money as Tampa Bay. At
- 51:24Speaker 1: least y'all may not have to beat them again in
- 51:26Speaker 1: the postseason to advance. The playoffs where the bracket is
- 51:29Speaker 1: jacked up to where we'd have to play the Yankees
- 51:31Speaker 1: in our first playoff series, too. It makes no sense.
- 51:35Speaker 1: But a pretty cool celebration. With as little as you
- 51:38Speaker 1: guys spend, what you guys have accomplished over the years
- 51:40Speaker 1: has been incredible. It's really a fascinating franchise. Drew Rasmussen,
- 51:44Speaker 1: the pitcher last night, seven innings of no-hit baseball. He
- 51:48Speaker 1: has won every start since the All-Star break. 12 starts,
- 51:52Speaker 1: 12 wins. How many times can you pitch him in
- 51:54Speaker 1: the postseason? As many times as we can roll him
- 51:57Speaker 1: out there. Until his arm falls off?
- 51:58Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 51:59Speaker 1: Pretty crazy weekend in baseball there. Keep that Nor'easter in mind.
- 52:05Speaker 1: By the way, Forrester, is your White Sox? I see
- 52:07Speaker 1: the White Sox hat. How close are you to clenchings?
- 52:10Speaker 8: Uh, they hold a one game lead over the Indians.
- 52:14Speaker 8: They're basically a lock to at least get a wild card.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Oh, basically. The Guardians, you mean. The Guardians.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Yeah, the Guardians.
- 52:20Speaker 1: That's okay.
- 52:21Speaker 3: I forget the, uh, I forget the Indians got canceled.
- 52:23Speaker 1: If we were playing Family Feud, it would have clicked up. Ding! Cleveland.
- 52:28Speaker 6: Um.
- 52:28Speaker 8: But, but, if the White Sox were to finish tied,
- 52:33Speaker 8: they win the division.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Yeah, but what really makes me mad is, okay, you
- 52:37Speaker 1: guys will get a bye. Right? Correct. With a miserable record.
- 52:43Speaker 1: And you will play the winner of the Cleveland or
- 52:47Speaker 1: Texas-Houston series.
- 52:49Speaker 8: You understand this team lost 120 games two years ago.
- 52:53Speaker 3: That was miserable.
- 52:54Speaker 1: I'm only making the point that Tampa Bay is the
- 52:55Speaker 1: number one seed, and they're going to play the winner
- 52:58Speaker 1: of the Red Sox-Yankees.
- 52:59Speaker 3: Miserable.
- 53:00Speaker 1: You are going to win the division White Sox and
- 53:04Speaker 1: play the winner of Cleveland. And whoever wins the American
- 53:07Speaker 1: League West Texas in Houston wins. Those two teams, Texas
- 53:10Speaker 1: and Houston, right now are 78 and 79. That's kind
- 53:13Speaker 1: of weird. There is a chance that we'll have the
- 53:16Speaker 1: first ever losing record major league baseball playoff team. Right now,
- 53:21Speaker 1: the worst playoff team record ever, 2005 San Diego, 82
- 53:25Speaker 1: and 80. And these guys aren't going to get there.
- 53:29Speaker 1: Pretty crazy. And we have to play the Yankees.
- 53:32Speaker 3: Hate it for you.
- 53:32Speaker 1: In the second round. When we come back, the great
- 53:35Speaker 1: Mike Johnson talks Alabama football with us, talks college football
- 53:39Speaker 1: with us, and talks the NFL with us. That's all
- 53:41Speaker 1: next on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets
- 53:43Speaker 1: on Sporting State.
