[upbeat rock music] Hey, everybody. Hello.
• 0:17
Heyo, it's Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 169. Dude. I, I'm all backwards over here. It's kinda weird. Yeah, it's we... We're in the... If we had the black curtains up, this would be- Dark...
• 0:33
tin- dark room with tiny white... white room with black curtains. There we go. We're gonna get those up in here. Dirty white room with black curtains. Dirty white, dirty white boy room with black curtains.
• 0:43
This is kind of an interesting little- There's a lot of rock and roll in this room... I don't know what's going on with this thing. It's, I think it was, must have been the warehouse manager's room.
• 0:52
It's the only eight by eight foot section in this whole building that has AC. Yeah. Which is nice, 'cause I saw 103 degrees today. Yeah. It was- Wednesday. Today. Yesterday. Two days ago. Yeah. Yeah. It was hot.
• 1:06
Early in the week it was hot. Hot. Supposed to be s- in the 60s for Fat Tire Tour tomorrow. Sounds lovely. Lovely. Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee folks coming up here, uh, tomorrow, June 18th. At Best Place.
• 1:21
Best Place, up on, on the top of the hill, Juneau Hill there, over there by the Pabst, by the old Pabst Brewery. We don't know the route this year, do we? Never do, right?
• 1:32
Well, usually we're on the planning stages of it- We, uh, we are this year... so I got some idea, but not so much this year. That shit happens. It, it will be a surprise.
• 1:39
My guess, if it's gonna be that nice out, there's gonna be a lot of people- Mm-hmm... and they're gonna go to big places. So, I'm thinking, mm, Gathering Place maybe. I, I think that's too small. Is it too small? Maybe.
• 1:53
Mm. I don't know. We'll find- We'll see... out on Saturday. It's a 15 to 20-mile ride. I would anticipate in the neighborhood of 450 people-ish. Yeah, if it's that nice out- If it-... it could be big...
• 2:04
it's gonna be super sweet, at least according to the forecast. Yeah. We're looking at it from quite a ways away, but it's really just tomorrow. Yeah. Right on, right on. Any- anything can happen. Anything can happen.
• 2:17
I'm digging this room. We gotta do the layout a little different, but it's, like, sweet. We kind of, like, can see everything out of it. It's got windows on. We can spy on people in the shop and stuff, and
• 2:29
I thought about, I thought about- I hate the recessed ceiling, but I always hate recessed ceilings. Yeah. Well, it's actually a cube, so it's not really a recessed ceiling- It's a drop-in... so much as- Yeah, I suppose.
• 2:37
Yeah. I thought about taking it out because I could use the extra room, but then I thought- It's a little dark... well, why don't we just do the podcast from there? Mm. Mm.
• 2:46
For the last couple of weeks we've been doing it in the old, well, in the podcast space, but we didn't have Wi-Fi up there. So, there's something with our call-in studio, call-in software as a service thingy. Ha. Hello.
• 3:01
Ha. Where's the Michael? What time is it? I hear Michael. Oh, I happened to be too early. I hear the Michael. I just opened a beer for you. Thank you. He's hot. Michael, Michael have, Michael have arrived.
• 3:13
Oh, close the door. Don't let the, don't let the cool air out of the room. It's so nice in here. Get off my Kool-Aid. [laughs] Get off my layers. [laughs] Woo. Christ, it's warm to shits.
• 3:26
Right underneath your bag is the coolers. Oh, there's a cooler out here. Ah. Okay. All right. You are- JK has arriveth. Sorry I'm late. So, so now- Sorry I'm late. Sorry... so it, you gotta put the things on this week.
• 3:38
Here. We don't have the microphones down here. 89, 1989, Unknown Pleasures came out. Un- Nice... for 169. Unknown Pleasures. Oh, I gotta make you- That was a goddamn great- I, I gotta make you louder over here.
• 3:53
There we are... Joy Division, Unknown Pleasures- I don't know what's going on... released today- Oh... in 1989. Gotcha. You were alive then. Yeah. So, so now we have the whole crew here. We got the JK. Yeah, finally.
• 4:10
Okay, here's some warm fucking beer. There's cold beer in there. Um, every beer I went to was warm- Yeah, you brought in so many beers... at the place I went to. Well- I even went to the Ham.
• 4:24
[laughs] I'm like, "Please, Ham, something be cool." No. Nope. Everything was lukewarm, like under- Well, that's good beer though, so we'll try that. But first you must have a chilled pre-beer- Yes... beer. Enjoy.
• 4:36
Yeah, it's going in my eyes. I'm crying. I'm not crying, you're crying. What is this? What is this? That's the happy place. Ooh. I am going to a happy place.
• 4:48
[laughs] That's a, that's, that was the title of your- Thank you... in- in your notes. Forgive my sweaty hand. I had, I had a long day at work and I'm like, "You know, I was gonna bring a six-pack in."
• 4:57
I'm like, "Man, I gotta have a beer." So I did. No matter how cold- They're delicious... whatever I had, it would be warm by the time I got here. Well, that's for sure. It's hot. It's- It's, it's, it's hu- it's humid...
• 5:11
it was like nine- it was 103 two days ago. Yeah. Hey, guess what? Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, Tony. Hi, welcome to the goddamn show, everyone. Hey, hey, wait.
• 5:20
Hey, speaking of welcoming to the show, welcome to the show caller. Who do we have on the line? Hey, it's Silly Dave. Silly Dave. Silly Dave. Oh, I forgot you still have a 414 area code. I'm like, "Who the heck is this?
• 5:33
I don't even know that number." I do. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. You're burnin'. I don't know that I'll ever change that if I don't have to. Why bother? Yeah, I mean, and they're sorta portable these days, right? So,
• 5:44
uh- They are. You know, there's a little sense of pride involved. Right? Especially when you have a really good number and you're like, "Oh, my number is so great, I don't wanna get rid of it."
• 5:53
I mean, my nickname is Silly Dave and my area code or my, you know, is 414 still, so I, I'm, I feel like I've still got a foot in both worlds. Right on. That was a canned beer for a while. 414 That was 414, what is that?
• 6:11
Two, can- however it spells can beer Oh, beer can beer 223 beer [laughs] Oh. Oh, uh- That was my phone number... bless his face, uh, Too Much Metal Fred had a specialty out there for a bit, 414 licensed.
• 6:27
So Sealy Dave, are you gonna make it down for Fat Tire tour tomorrow, the being Saturday, the 18th? I'm not Not- I'm not.
• 6:34
I'm actually considering, and I'm not locked into it, I might go, um, next week Tuesday, but my fat bike is all set up for bike packing. It's loaded and ready to roll for the Valhalla Beach Party.
• 6:52
Oh, you got that going this year.
• 6:54
Uh, you can have- Nice Yeah, you know, and it's not an official event, but I wanna pub- Bikepacking.com just put out another call for like, um, you know, the sort of overnighter routes, and so that's like a 90-mile route that I have up, you know, a, a warm weather fat bike route.
• 7:13
Um, you rode those- Yeah... things- Yeah. Exactly... with, with me. Um, I mean a fat bike is the ideal bike to ride on that. Absolutely. Yeah, I don't think you would do well on any other bike. On that...
• 7:24
It's glacial out wash, so it's the edge of the glacial, you know, area where the, where the glacier sort of melted- Mm...
• 7:30
and all the sand just sort of like washed down the edge of the glacier as it melted, and it filled in that Bayfield Peninsula with sand. So all those forest roads are so sandy as you remember.
• 7:43
And so I have a route that I've, I've kind of finally nailed down that's like 90 miles.
• 7:50
Um, so it's like 45 miles each day, and the overnight spot is you start in, up by that mocha bar that we were at in the town of Hilson. [laughs] The plywood palace. Um- Yep. Yep.
• 8:02
[laughs] Right, the plywood palace, right? And then you ride up towards Conucopia. You, yeah, um, you camp in Herbster, right on the shore of Lake Superior.
• 8:13
You ride over to Twin Ports and then ride back down, uh, to Moqua. And there's like five lakes that you go by that you can swim in if you want. So it's... I, I thought the name...
• 8:24
And I ride Van Helga like fat bike tires on my,
• 8:29
for summer as well, so I thought the Valhalla Beach Party, it sound like if there's swimming and sand and fat bikes, Valhalla Beach Party sound like a good name for a route. Yeah. So I'm- Absolutely... I'm gonna...
• 8:41
Yeah, so I'm gonna, I, I'm gonna try to pre-ride the rec- You know, I've ridden all those roads before, um, with you and with other folks and stuff like that, but, um, I just, before I like try to publish a route, I like to like ride it in its entirety as I'm directing others to do, so I can try to find any mistakes that I may have made.
• 9:04
I like to do it at least once or twice. Yep. So I wanna ride it once, and then I've got some friends, um, Shane Hits from the Wausau area who's a- Wausau... real good bike packer guy, um, and Josh Rizzo from the north.
• 9:19
Um, the three of us are thinking about riding on July 16th. It's a two-day route. You know, ride 45 miles a day, camp, and then you're done at the end of the day, um, back at the plywood palace, so. Sounds good.
• 9:33
So we're gonna do that on July 16th. Um, any listeners wanna join us, PM me. You know, you know how to get ahold of me, um, on Facebook or whatever, and, uh, you're welcome to join us, but I think it'll be fun.
• 9:47
Swimming, sand, fat bikes, beer. What's not to love? What's not to love? So they can... I- is Life Above Eight, E-I-G-H-T, the best place, or what's the best place to hit you up? Yeah. Yeah. Um, I mean, or Facebook.
• 10:02
Just look for Dave Schlabowski on Facebook and PM me or message me, so you know, something like that and if anybody wants to come along. But I, I'm gonna do that either... I'm not sure.
• 10:12
My daughter's coming up this weekend, and we got stuff going on, and so I was gonna go tomorrow, but I'm thinking maybe it's not a good idea right before we're hosting my daughter.
• 10:24
So I might go Tuesday, Wednesday next week, 'cause Liz is, she works Lutsen 99er. She sells all the merch at the Lutsen 99er, so she's gonna be gone next week Thursday through Sunday, so I can't really do it,
• 10:39
um, while she's gone 'cause I gotta watch the dogs. Right on. Well, it sounds cool. I'd like to- Stir the sauce... is, so is the route on, uh, Ride with GPS or some other such- Yeah.
• 10:49
If you Google, if you Google Valhalla Beach Party, one of the routes will come up. There's, there's more than one, but like one of them will, will come up. Okay. Um, and the, there...
• 11:01
I, 'cause I've got some shorter versions and stuff that I've done.
• 11:04
Um, I was thinking about doing it as like a, a, you know, a 40-mile like summer fat bike race that you and I were talking about that the last time you were up here riding. Um,
• 11:16
so I was thinking about doing that, like a 40, 50-mile summer fat bike race 'cause there really aren't any of those- That seems like a great idea... which completely surprises me. I know.
• 11:25
Why, why doesn't like Arizona or New Mexico or somebody own like some, you know, really cool warm weather version of the Schwarm again- 'Cause they suck... home bike festival or the Fat bike Birkie or some...
• 11:39
You know what I mean? Yeah. A big time- 'Cause they suck... you know, fat bike race- No... in, in warm but not overly hot weather, um, on sand where... 'Cause fat bikes race- 'Cause they suck...
• 11:50
so many, you know, lots of people race fat bikes in just regular mountain bike races. Right. Yeah, of course. Yeah. Yeah. But there is no actual advantage- Of course... other than the grin factor, right? Right. Right.
• 12:01
Yeah, I think the closest- But if you hit the sandy areas- And the closest thing...
• 12:05
I was gonna say, the closest- For me, like that- The closest thing to what you're s- talking about I think would be that- The, the Fat Bike Beach Open out in, uh, like Wilmington, North Carolina.
• 12:16
They do it on a beach, and it's in, like- Right... late March or something, but that's not really summer. Right. But it is at least sand. Not the, not the Funduro when I almost lost my testicles?
• 12:25
The Funduro was so great. [laughs] Pets. Gomez. AJ. G- Gomez. No, it's, uh- Gomez, do another, uh, Funduro. And be grudgingly invited. So here, here's an idea. Yeah. [laughs] Here, here's a question for you. Um, so-
• 12:42
Suffin... I, so I wanna make a logo for the Valhalla Beach Party, and I was wondering, Greg- Spinner... do you have a picture of Spinner in full Viking regalia? [laughs] No.
• 12:54
Do you have like a- [laughs] I'm like, Spinner... a picture- Spinner... that, that I could like, just like turn into like a- Hijack completely? [laughs]... you know, like- Yeah, definitely...
• 13:01
I could put in, like, in like Illustrator and copy and trace- Yeah, well, I've-... make at least expand, you know- I've got a couple different ones... and turn into a logo? For sure. [laughs] For real.
• 13:10
I've, I've got him, you know, definitely during the Showamagon races. Slamming, slamming. So you could turn slime into sand. Body slamming lungs. [laughs] Body slamming lungs would be a nice one.
• 13:17
Yeah, but he didn't have Viking regalia on when he did that. Well, you can put it on him. Right. So- Um. Well. [laughs] I got a couple of them. Could we...
• 13:24
If, if you're going to Zion or anything this summer, like get a, get a side, you know, a profile photo of [laughs] like Spinner, like doing a wheelie, and make him bring his full Viking gear, like his leggings and all his- Oh, he carries that everywhere...
• 13:39
that he can already bring. Yeah, I think that's more of a winter garb for him with the shorts and the horns. I know, but just have him bring it just for a photo. [laughs] Okay.
• 13:47
'Cause like, 'cause then I could just like trace it in Illustrator or Photoshop or something and turn it into a logo. Yeah. I'll, I'll, I'll curate that. [laughs] All right, Dave. Well, here's, here's the good thing.
• 13:57
You could keep the natural. Here's the good thing. You, uh, you proved my hypothesis that we have to be on a real Wi-Fi network for this cockamamie call-in studio thing to work, so. Ah. Uh, one of our- Okay...
• 14:09
one of our, one of our longtime listeners, uh, 55 time callers is, is also [laughs] waiting in the, in the wings and, uh, I know he's- Oh, is that, is that Big Sexy? Large Sexy. Yeah, yeah.
• 14:20
Do you wanna- [laughs] Do you wanna listen in, or do you got things to do? No, no, I'm at the sawmill. Oh, right on. Okay. So I just stepped outside. Oh, right on. Tipp went, Tipp went back for me.
• 14:31
It's a banner night at the sawmill. Tipp went back for me. Yay. Yeah, well, thanks for, uh, helping us test out the... I just wanted to make sure it, we're back to working, 'cause I know that, uh- All right... uh,
• 14:39
we'll talk to you soon. All right. Thank you, see you today. Thanks. Bye. You, you, you text, I will re- I will reply. Okay. [laughs] All right. All right. Talk to you guys later. Yep. Bye. All right. Bye. Oh, oh, oh.
• 14:51
Is it- [sighs] It's- Hey, welcome to the radio program. Who do we have on the line? Uh. What's happening, y'all? It's Big Sexy. I saw, I saw you lurking.
• 15:02
I just, uh, Dave, you and Dave called at like the same time, and I know you'll just sit there and listen because you did that the last couple weeks, and I didn't even know you were there until, like last week- Yes...
• 15:14
I, I refreshed the, the browser on the computer, and I saw your number, and I'm like, "Oh, I guess this thing isn't doing it the way it's supposed to," 'cause our technology was wonky the last few weeks.
• 15:24
But anyway, how's it going there, Big Sexy? It, it was, it, it, it was the most of your show I've ever listened to. Yeah. Well, I just couldn't see that you were on there, so we couldn't bring you into the show.
• 15:34
But, uh, now I, now I did, and now we're working. Of course. Of course, I'm kidding. Um, yeah, things are not good. Heather is very hurt. Oh. The left wheel fell off again. What?
• 15:49
The axle broke and the left wheel fell off again. Holy mackerel. That's not good. It happened in Ke- it happened in Keokuk, Iowa, in 2020, and now it happened in Hannibal, Missouri. Hannibal. 100 miles,
• 16:06
100 miles south of Keokuk, Iowa. That's delicious Clarice. Huh? Delicious Clarice Hannibal. [laughs] Yeah, but so- Come on, look for the sunny side of life.
• 16:21
Come on, I'm sweating my balls off in this fucking sweat lodge we're dealing with here. Sweat lodge. Yeah. [laughs] Schwi- Schwinn is, Schwinn is, Schwinn is sending me, uh, a new frame.
• 16:34
It was supposed to, uh, it, uh, FedEx said it was gonna be here today, but I don't think it made it. A new frame? It's gonna be here tomorrow, so I... Yeah, a new rear frame. Wow.
• 16:45
'Cause that shouldn't, that axle isn't supposed to break like that, man. That wouldn't be Heather then. Yeah, Heather II. It, it, it wouldn't be Heather. Covering Little Hamilton.
• 16:58
But, but- [laughs] I think it's Heather 2.0. I don't know. Big Sexy, we got kind of a weird connection with you. Um, I'm getting a lot of, uh, crackly, crackly. Okay. Hold on. Um- Hold on, hold on. Um, power off.
• 17:13
[laughs] How was that? What? How's this? Any better? Yeah, a little better. Future power. Yeah, that was pretty cool though, whatever happened. Power off. Yeah, it's better now for sure. Yeah.
• 17:23
The, the, I, I have a blue- The meta, meta communication. So where are you currently- I, I, um- Where are you currently, uh, waylaid with this Heather issue?
• 17:35
Well, I am, uh, sitting about 50 feet from Mark Twain's boyhood home. Whoa. Quiz. Quiz time. How was that? In Missouri. Yeah. I, that's cool. I, unfortunately- Sweat shield...
• 17:49
we're s- we're still having problems, Big Sexy. I'm gonna have to, uh, uh, move along here, at least for now. It's all crackly crack. Yeah. All right. Well, we'll catch up with you soon. Sorry about that.
• 18:01
Call us back, br, br, br, next week, br, br. Yeah, I just like to... Otherwise, I would have to go ahead and edit all that. Yeah. And I just, nah I'm not 100% sure ahead.
• 18:12
So while, you know- I mean- While we're talking about bike stuff... you leave it in for the effect of wind You know what we could do now that we... You're really... You were riding to get here, weren't you? Yes.
• 18:21
Push, push the lower left button. Let's see what the air conditioner sounds like. Uh. Is that the on one? I think it is. I don't- It lit up... give a shit if there is one. [laughs] I didn't even know a fucking was there.
• 18:31
[laughs] Um. You silly bastards. I just don't wanna- So I, I got a, uh- It was super cool in here before you got here. Talk. [laughs] There we go.
• 18:41
But we'll have the, we'll have the dulcet tones of the air conditioner- Yeah... humming in the background. What? So I got a, uh- You actually turn that off... I got a, I got a message. Yeah, 'cause it makes noise. Dude.
• 18:51
What, what's more important? It's 90 fucking thousand degrees outside. It was, like, 87. Come on. No. When I walked in. No, no, no. No, no, and no. It's- Where's your thermometer? I want- It was thir-... visual evidence
• 19:04
... nine- 93 at all times. No. Heat index being 98. That's those people living in Waukesha and shit. No, it was 103 here today. No, no, no. All right. Let's see what we got. On asphalt? Yeah. Bah. Bah. No. Just- Bah.
• 19:18
Bah... with the driving. Yeah. 91. All right. Let's- 91. 80. Heat index? 92. I thought it said 102. No. But whatever. No. [laughs] 102 sounds better. All right. So shoot. So I, I got a, uh- Whatever, 92 is not any joke.
• 19:31
That's why I'm sitting here- I got a text message, uh, today from-... with my titties hanging out... yes. Um, I got a text message- [laughs]... from- How do you-...
• 19:38
Julie in the River West 24 asking, you know, has there been any discussion about practice laps and- Oh, no... what are people gonna do with Humboldt all ripped up?
• 19:49
Yeah, what are people gonna do with Humboldt all ripped up? Well, I, I responded, well, I ride a fat bike- There are-... so I'm just gonna ride down Humboldt... four, there are four checkpoints.
• 19:56
However you get to- Right. Exactly... you get them however you wanna get to them. I was gonna respond with, you know, there is no real course, but I understand that there are people that like, like to follow a course.
• 20:07
Sure. Or- But it does definitely change matters pretty significantly for a- Yes... fair amount of riders. Probably ride a, ride a fat bike or a mountain bike and- No... take the whole park...
• 20:16
well, I mean, if you're ri- I mean, but not people have all that, all that many people have that luxury. I mean- What do you mean?... the deal is, is take- No, everybody in this race has at least three bikes.
• 20:24
I don't know if that's true. Well, then they're- I think there's-... then they're doing it wrong. Yeah. Well. But I do think there's people that go up, um, Hour and go up Bramen. Um, and, and- Bramen? Bramen?
• 20:35
Yeah, to kinda hit it to check from- Bramen? You go to- You're assuming that anyone knows- You go to Burleigh to checkpoint two... what the hell you're talking about. I, well, look at the map, man. It's River West 24.
• 20:42
Nobody knows what you're talking about. So you hit checkpoint two, and Humboldt's all ripped up, so you go up Hour or Bramen over to checkpoint three. Bramen? You're saying- Bremen. It's called Bremen. No, it's not.
• 20:55
It's Bramen. It's Bremen. Bramen? It's Bramen. [bell rings] Oh, it's that way. Top of the fucking hill Bramen. I'm gonna have... I... JK brought some, some warm beer. I wanna taste it because- Yeah... it's a good beer.
• 21:06
It's a good, warm beer. It's Bramen. But, well, it's an, it, it's- IPA of a warmness... it's Squeezy Rider West Coast IPA, and he- Bramen...
• 21:14
he really, really went out of his way, and also got heat stroke- Ooh, it is warm... just to get this beer for us. It is a Deschutes beer, so you know it's gonna be good. It's probably sitting in the shed.
• 21:22
You know it's gonna be good. I got the shits. It's effort- Got shits. It's effortlily, [laughs] effortlessly West Coast, intensely tropical, freshly squeezed.
• 21:33
They had the freshly squeezed, but we've had that before, so I said this one is the other one. No fruit was harmed in the making of this beer. Exactly. Squeezy Rider. [sighs] Yeah.
• 21:43
And I, you know- Are you finally cooling off now that we have the- Getting there. Getting there... AC running for you? Getting there. I had to deal with PDA, man, too. [laughs] Watch out for th- Watch out...
• 21:53
it's, it's not open yet. Watch out for that thing. But yeah, dealing with PDA and getting all that. Oh, boy. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of... Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right.
• 22:01
A lot, a lot of, uh- Still moving around over there. Still tapping. Well, fuck yes. Still, still, still greasy booty-ing. Still, still got the- Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, realistically- Dude...
• 22:09
all right, are you gonna ride a fat bike? I mean, are you going to enjoy that entire, like, kinda gravel area? A gravel bike would be fun. You can completely avoid Humboldt. It's really not very hard.
• 22:20
You just go on different streets. Well, I know that, but there also- That's what you do... those streets have stop signs, things like that, whereas Humboldt lets you just rip it. Oh, people are gonna have to suffer.
• 22:26
No, it's a race. It's all wheel. It's a ride. Don't worry about it. It's a wheel. You know, so- Now, oh, hey, guess what? Now it's a wheel. Just to ride. Just to ride. Yeah. What's happened to this room, man?
• 22:34
We've suddenly just turned into a broadcast. I took my shirt off and you're all- Yeah. Right. That's, uh- I'm, I'm, I'm freaking out. I know. Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller.
• 22:42
You ha- you have to [laughs] be y- you have to be on the line now. Now is the time for you to be on the line. Hi. Slappy. Hi. Who's this? How are you doing? [laughs] Hey, hello? [laughs] I hear you. Falling apart.
• 22:53
I can hear you. How are you doing? I'm getting old and falling apart. Leave me alone. [laughs] Where you at? What you doing? Looking fat and ugly. What's the, what's the buzz?
• 23:01
I, I literally just pulled back in the driveway. I thought I was gonna run and do a quick errand before I called, and I ran into a couple of ex-hockey- And we lost him. What? Where's Ron now? Ron? Hello, Ron. Oh, Ron.
• 23:16
The dear Ron Ron. Two-way. Ron, the dear Ron Ron. Well, Ron, we can't hear you now, then. [sighs] All right. Well, give us a call back. Maybe that'll work. Yeah. Or- Motherfucker.
• 23:30
[laughs] I'm gonna be rude and just drop the call. By, well, even though the technology's working as- Yeah... properly, but it's- But you see that? Yeah, that's cold reset. Yeah. It, but- Call back... but it's working.
• 23:41
Happens, man. Happens. Yeah. That's- But it's at least working, which is good... that's how I work at work. Oh, let me just unplug this and replug it in. Ta-da. Oh, look. It works. It works. Ta-da. Yep, I've been there.
• 23:57
Oh, Michael, you are a goddamn miracle worker. [laughs] Like... No. All right. Let's give this another try. All right. Hey, welcome to the radio program, caller. We're back. Who do we have on the line? [laughs]I'm back.
• 24:12
Ka, ka, ka, ka, ka, ka. Yeah, something happened. You were- Yes, he was back in that closet... you were completely inaudible in the silent mode variety of being not a- available to hear.
• 24:21
[sighs] I, I was gonna say, do you think it's on your end or do you think it's on my end? It's your end. I think it was on your end- Your end... but I'm not discounting the fact- Oh...
• 24:28
that we could have some shit going on over here. Um, I did figure out our previous problem- But, uh-... but, you know, maybe there's other gremlins. We're, we've, we've moved. Yeah. [laughs] We're- We're-... still here.
• 24:38
[laughs] We're in this little, tiny, eight-by-eight room. JK made us turn the air conditioner back on, 'cause it's the- Jesus Christ... only air conditioner in about 250,000 square feet of building.
• 24:48
[laughs] And I'm starting, I'm starting to get naked. Yeah. No, he's peeling- [laughs]... peeling like a, like a grape. He's not good naked. I'm totally peeling like a fucking Canadian surfer now. He's not good naked.
• 24:59
[laughs] Yeah. All right, Ron, how's it going? What do you got going on? Good. How are you guys? Um, I just... Let's see, what else we got going on here?
• 25:07
Um, just got back from vacation, which was actually kind of fun for a change. Um, I've got, uh...
• 25:14
Well, hey, we're gonna do a podcast, um, and I'm going to argue e-bikes with a guy that's actually got a pretty good excuse for riding an e-bike. Okay. He has no legs or what? Uh,
• 25:27
oh, yeah, you know, uh, do you know Matt Turn? He's from Decorah. I don't think so. Um, I don't think so. I mean, he's... We'll get into it later, but he's, he's got a good excuse.
• 25:38
He does ride with some of the fast guys. He rides with Mark Focadel and some of those guys, and he has a decent excuse for having a gravel road [bike pump hissing] e-bike.
• 25:45
And then, so on top of that, because it's a gravel road e-bike, and it's not that I'd ever want one, but it's like, where are you going with this? Um, I've been watching YouTube, uh, is it GSM, that has...
• 25:59
Um, they've been extensively racing their roadie guys against different e-bikes, and like the one guy was out there with his dad.
• 26:08
So they're actually pretty interesting to watch, and just makes it so I still don't think there's a need for an e-bike. So- So the-... so it's gonna be fun. Um- Do the fast guys still beat the, the electric guys?
• 26:20
Not very often. [laughs] I mean, it's like, um- Boy, he does... so there, there, 'cause, well, because here's the, here's the thing. They're not... So a fast guy that's on an e-bike is still a pretty fast guy in my mind.
• 26:30
I mean, they're, they're racing against world-class racers of course- Right... but at the same time you're a decent rider and you're on an e-bike.
• 26:36
Like the one, the one episode they actually took a, um, the Canon, um, gravel e-bike and made it illegal and like took away all the, all the things that, that hold it back, and the guy was, and the, and the guy on the road bike was actually not doing too bad against that setup, so.
• 26:52
Huh. Well, what you- Ron, um-... what you get there is limited range... Ron, what I'm really scared about is you know way too much about e-bikes for hating e-bikes. I have to require- You have to know your enemy.
• 27:04
[laughs] Yeah. Things are kinda cutting out now. Oh. Oh, I, I said- Oh, of course... I said you know way too much about electric bikes to not like e-bikes. I think you're lying.
• 27:14
Oh, n- no, I just, I don't know anything about them other than the fact that I just, all them doing is stockpiling- So what about the derby and the-...
• 27:22
and making themselves their, their [beep] What about the derby and the fun with e-bikes? How does that work? Um, I don't know. We can try. Um- You'll zap out? I, I don't know. Who's gonna zap out? Worth a try. Mm.
• 27:37
Yeah, who's gonna zap out first? Well- Yeah, so we'll, we'll look forward to that. I s- Well- I still have a couple in the can that I've gotta finish off for you with, uh, Chuck, but, uh, you know.
• 27:47
Um, and then- Oh, he's-... and then the other thing is, um-... going right out in smoke in the back... the other cool- That's awesome.
• 27:52
[laughs] The other cool thing that's going on this, you know, this weekend is- [laughs] Sorry. Shh. Am I saying that out loud? [laughs] That's good. I like, I like hearing you in pain. Yeah, he's not in pain.
• 28:04
He's in pleasure right now, which is even more disturbing. [laughs] No. Yeah, no, I mean, pain, yeah, yeah, anybody can... That's funny, but pleasure, that's just, I'd wanna kinda move out of the room. I'm sorry.
• 28:17
I'm sorry. [laughs] I'm sorry. [laughs] All right. Yeah. So you're going up to... What is the, what is the car show?
• 28:23
Oh, uh, it's back to the '50s this weekend, so it's the, you know, the entire Minnesota State Fairgrounds is covered in street rods from 1964 and older. It's gonna be a blast. Like I...
• 28:35
It'll be interesting to see how it was. You know, they didn't do it the year of the pandemic. They brought it back last year limited, um, so the numbers were... I mean, they get like 13,000 cars up there.
• 28:44
That's a lot of cars. And then now this one is gonna be... Yeah, and it's a lot of cool cars. And it'll be interesting to see because- Especially at five bucks a gallon... you know- Right? Yeah. Well, no, no.
• 28:52
If you're driving one of those cars you're paying like eight- Right... 'cause you're using race fuel or something in them. Right. Um, so- Um, yeah, well- Um, keep your, uh, keep-...
• 29:00
and it's one thing, but I, but there's- Keep your... keep your eyes open- Yeah, you might open them... for a specific car i- in the 13,000 cars.
• 29:08
Uh, my buddy Mark down here just sold, uh, a Chevy, uh, one of the older Novas, like whatever, or Chevy II. It's like the early '60s. I forget the exact year. But it has the most beautiful ru- Okay...
• 29:20
it has the most beautiful ruby red paint job on it and he called it the, the Ruby Slipper. And get this- [laughs]... he got rid of it because it has way too much motor. The thing has like 550 horsepower.
• 29:32
It's just ridiculously powerful. And to try and just kinda drive it- I did a-... drive it around and have fun, it's like, nah. Not really. No. You, you can't. I, I got rid of those.
• 29:44
I have a '62 Dodge pickup that I drive that's got a, a, a 390 out of a, out of an old Dodge Dart, so it sounds really fast and it doesn't go fast, and I'm perfectly fine with that. [laughs] Yeah.
• 29:54
[laughs] Yeah, there you go. Makes sense to me. It still cost me 40 bucks to drive back from Decorah, 'cause I had to buy the better gas. So- Yeah... it was, uh, $40 to drive 80 miles.
• 30:05
I'm like, "Oh, this is gonna be fun." So i- I do think, I wonder how many cars are not gonna come because of the gas prices. I, I think anybody- Right...
• 30:11
that has something that special to them, uh, uh, so figure it like this. Uh, last year it would've been 3.50, so you're only really paying a dollar and a half a gallon more. So it's not like you're- Mm-hmm...
• 30:23
paying really five or six bucks a gallon. You're only paying a buck and a half. There's a lot more to factor in there. It seems like- How far are they driving?
• 30:28
It seems like math should work in your favor in this situation. Greg, if you slow that down, you'll get very- I- I-... Christopher Walken-y. If you slow it down- And you might be right... enough- You might be right-...
• 30:39
it will be fine... because I don't, I thought, I think, I think that the non-oxidized is, hasn't gone up as high. Like, it was, it was...
• 30:46
The difference between that and regular, um, gas last year was probably greater than it is now. Do you want to know- So it's 50 right this-... about my gas last year? [laughs] Old man. I- [laughs]
• 30:59
Yeah, no, for sure, yeah. I, I- [laughs] It- it's kind of hovered around eight bucks a gallon, hasn't it? Globally- Um-... this is nobody's goddamn fault except the fucking baron merchant bullshitteries. Wow. Yeah.
• 31:14
Lu- What- Lunds will love this show. [laughs] Yes. [laughs] Lunds will love this show. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. Well, I... So take some pictures. Yes, Lunds, I did pre-game, thank you. [laughs] Take some pictures.
• 31:28
See if, see if there's any fat bikes up there at the car show. Yeah. Ah, pre-gaming. God, I wish I could do that again. I'm too old to pre-game. Cut it out. You're just not in Wisconsin. Oh.
• 31:41
You need to come get some popcorn for your wife. Dude, it's been, like, 900 degrees out here for the past two days, so I'll... Yeah, I have to do what I- But Chewy, that's your excuse.
• 31:50
Tell your wife you have to go get her some popcorn. Yep. Yep, yep, yep. Oh. Oh, yeah. Popcorn. Well, I'm about to. I- Right now? It's gonna be too hot to ride bikes out there this weekend. Just right now.
• 32:01
No, I, I do need to do that, though, so I will be down for something. After it gets through June. Once it gets through June- [laughs]... I'll be, I'll be- [laughs]... uh, hopefully back on the road again. Okay.
• 32:10
Right on. All right, well- Well-... we- Thanks for, thanks for helping us, uh, test out and make sure the system works. I appreciate you calling in. We, we- We... all of us appreciate you calling in.
• 32:22
And, uh, what we're gonna- All right, see you guys later... yeah, [laughs] what we're gonna do now- Bye... is sit in this little air-conditioned- No shit... cubicle of wonderfulness and drink warm beer, which is fine.
• 32:31
Man. Yeah. Bye, Chewy. Bye, Chewy. All right, see you guys. Always a pleasure. Talk to you later. Bye. Bye. Bye. [imitates motorcycle] All right, Chewy. Chewy there, folks. Chewy.
• 32:42
We had a, we had a, we had a schlabowski, a brief, uh, big sexy. No one else called in? I don't think so. Okay. All right. Sexy. I would've- Sexy... pushed the button, and I did not push the button. Sexy.
• 32:53
So I don't know. We got FTTM tomorrow, blah, blah, blah. You did that, you did that. Um- Put a antenna in the thing... Boy Dirt- There. Boy- Boy Dirt Car. Boy Dirt Car, and, uh... Am I on? We didn't talk about stuff.
• 33:06
We'll talk about it next week. Yeah, Boy Dirt Car. Boy Dirt Car, and... Well, no, everything on Saturday. There's a lot on Saturday. Going to see Quills. Uh, Hawk as a Weapon is down at, um- Solstice. Nope.
• 33:21
Nope, nope, nope. Uh, The Backyard down in Bayview. Mm-hmm. And I, I, I have no idea what, uh, the fat tire thing is- Me either, but I'm-... gonna go... gonna start there, and we're using clunkers, so. Yes, yes, and yes.
• 33:34
I have to talk to you on this other, on the other part. But yes, this, that, and the other thing, and Six Ways to Richard- And Boy Dirt Car... at Circle A. Do you- Down low... do you really want me to ride a clunker?
• 33:47
Yes. Uh, it's kinda mandatory. It's mandatory. 'Cause we get to do our own thing, then. We can have a club that nobody else can join unless they have what we have.
• 33:57
I, can I bring my other thing in here, if somebody can look at my derailleur? Sam's coming. [laughs] Uh, yeah. Not today, though. S- Sam Man- Exactly... Sam's coming. [laughs] All right.
• 34:06
  I'm like, "No, it's, like, a little clunky." We're gonna really... Like, yeah, 'cause I can't ride a, a clunker 25 miles. I'll die. Yes. It's not 25. Dude, you were- It's, like, 15...
• 34:15
dude, you were- Well, I, depending on what we do... riding that little baby- You're gonna... It'll be fine... you were, like- It'll be fine... you were riding- It's only three-speed... the little baby three-speed.
• 34:20
I didn't think it was a three-speed. I think it rolled. You rode that all the way to fucking Hillard Park. 'Cause that thing hauled ass. Don't, don't, don't, don't give me that- Well, that was in third gear...
• 34:29
don't give me that shit- And you're older... that was a great riding bike... that was, like, two years ago. I know. Fucking piss- And that bike rode so well... no, no, no. [upbeat music] [laughs] No, no, no,
• 34:40
no, no, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Uh, thank you. Uh, thank you very much. Come again.
• 34:57
  [upbeat music]
