- 0:07Speaker 2: Rogan podcast, By Night, All Day's It's good to see brother.
- 0:14Speaker 1: What's cracking to be seeing man?
- 0:16Speaker 2: Stuck to be here, stoked to have you? Mane, what
- 0:18Speaker 2: a fucking cute kid you have, dude.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Thank you, thank you. He's the best man, So.
- 0:23Speaker 2: He loves you. When we're trying to put him down,
- 0:25Speaker 2: he's like, no, I.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Think it's because I just spent We just went to
- 0:29Speaker 1: uh Utah and I had three or five days with him,
- 0:33Speaker 1: just like a lot of time with him, and he
- 0:35Speaker 1: has separation anxiety from me as I do with him.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I'm like, that's the best man.
- 0:40Speaker 2: And people that don't have kids, it's like you don't
- 0:42Speaker 2: understand the level of love that you have for them. Yeah,
- 0:46Speaker 2: it's really crazy.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Or people who have kids and don't hang out with
- 0:50Speaker 1: their kids like that. I just I don't get it.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I don't get it either.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'll spend every second I can with my kids.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it's weird. It's weird that people maybe something that
- 0:59Speaker 2: happened to them when they're young or something. I don't know. Yeah,
- 1:03Speaker 2: so what's cracking? What's the latest?
- 1:06Speaker 1: I mean, my dock came out today today, So yeah, yep,
- 1:11Speaker 1: long time coming. What was that experience like, well, the
- 1:18Speaker 1: beginning of it was was shortly after my book came out,
- 1:23Speaker 1: so I kind of understood why people wanted a dock
- 1:27Speaker 1: from me at that point, and I was honored and
- 1:32Speaker 1: I was flattered, and I was, you know, going down
- 1:34Speaker 1: the journey of filming this dock, but it didn't really
- 1:38Speaker 1: have an ending. I guess the light at the end
- 1:42Speaker 1: of the tunnel during that time around twenty seventeen was
- 1:46Speaker 1: that I was sober and I survived a plane crash,
- 1:49Speaker 1: but really I was struggling with ever flying again, struggling
- 1:55Speaker 1: with survivor's guilt, struggling with a lot of stuff. And
- 2:00Speaker 1: at the time the directors had mentioned to me like
- 2:02Speaker 1: can you just look at a plane or act like
- 2:04Speaker 1: you're going to go fly in a plane or walk
- 2:07Speaker 1: towards a plane. I was like, fuck, no, I would never.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I can't even consider it. I can't even do it
- 2:12Speaker 1: for you for for like fantasy purposes for the end
- 2:16Speaker 1: of this doc you know. And I think that's set
- 2:21Speaker 1: in after a while where I had to acknowledge and
- 2:27Speaker 1: and and just understand I was I was afraid to
- 2:31Speaker 1: ever fly agin And this thing had huge power over
- 2:34Speaker 1: me to the point where it you know, it dictated
- 2:37Speaker 1: how I got on tour. How many days I'd travel
- 2:40Speaker 1: on bus to New York, how many days I'd be
- 2:42Speaker 1: on the Queen Mary Too going to England.
- 2:46Speaker 2: How long would that take?
- 2:47Speaker 1: Oh dude, so long?
- 2:48Speaker 2: The England one's crazy.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Comfortably on the bus from here to New York, probably
- 2:53Speaker 1: six or seven days if you want to stop at hotels,
- 2:55Speaker 1: and you know I tour with my kids, you know,
- 2:59Speaker 1: their whole life, so stopping and doing some cool stuff
- 3:02Speaker 1: for them, six seven days and then a ten day
- 3:06Speaker 1: boat ride from New York to the Hamptons fuck crazy. Yeah,
- 3:13Speaker 1: So yeah, my band would leave, they'd be in England
- 3:16Speaker 1: in ten hours whatever. It would take me three weeks.
- 3:19Speaker 1: It sucked. And then sometimes I'd be on the Queen
- 3:22Speaker 1: Mary Too and we'd have wild weather, thirty foot waves,
- 3:27Speaker 1: one hundred and seventy mile per hour winds, and I
- 3:28Speaker 1: was like, is this any better than being on a plane.
- 3:32Speaker 3: But the ocean freaks me out? Yeah, it started to
- 3:37Speaker 3: in particularly, they freaked me out.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:39Speaker 1: We got into a couple storms on one of the
- 3:42Speaker 1: Transatlantic crossings that yeah, believe me, like something was festering
- 3:46Speaker 1: inside where I had this urge to try to figure
- 3:53Speaker 1: out what had this power over me, which was flying.
- 3:56Speaker 2: And yeah, well it's totally understandable.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I think about it every day after a certain point.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And then plus my kids, you know, they grew up
- 4:04Speaker 1: not flying. They they grew up associating a plane to
- 4:10Speaker 1: a metal container where people die. I think, you know, unfortunately,
- 4:13Speaker 1: because that's what happened, you know, to my two best
- 4:18Speaker 1: friends and the two pilots who were on my plane.
- 4:22Speaker 1: So yeah, it was, it was, It was hard. And
- 4:24Speaker 1: then I knew the day I did it, I could
- 4:27Speaker 1: show them that they could also do it and it
- 4:29Speaker 1: would probably break the the trauma and the spell that
- 4:33Speaker 1: my my accident caused, however many years ago. And yeah,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I think after my accident and that whole process, I
- 4:41Speaker 1: just everything people said I couldn't do after that, I
- 4:43Speaker 1: would just check them off one by one. Oh you're
- 4:45Speaker 1: not going to run again. Oh you're not going to
- 4:47Speaker 1: play the drums again. Oh you're not You're not gonna
- 4:49Speaker 1: do this again. And uh, And the one that I
- 4:51Speaker 1: gave myself, the restriction I gave myself is I'd never
- 4:54Speaker 1: fly agin, you know, and I broke it and I
- 4:58Speaker 1: fly again.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And how many years did it take you before you
- 5:01Speaker 2: got on a plane again?
- 5:02Speaker 1: Twenty And I even think back to that, I'm like,
- 5:05Speaker 1: twenty years. I lost twenty years with this thing having
- 5:08Speaker 1: power over me. But it just it was like a monster.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It kept getting bigger and bigger, and I was like,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I gotta.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Well, you gotta look at it, like in terms of
- 5:17Speaker 2: the odds, you survived a plane crash, which is the
- 5:20Speaker 2: odds of that are astronomical. The odds are you getting
- 5:23Speaker 2: in another plane crash are super low. Yeah, I know
- 5:27Speaker 2: nobody thinks about it like that because it's the opposite
- 5:29Speaker 2: because you've actually experienced it, so you know what it is, like,
- 5:32Speaker 2: Oh my god, this is a real possibility.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I can see that now because my son, who's
- 5:39Speaker 1: twenty two, he doesn't love to fly, and I always say, like,
- 5:41Speaker 1: we just worry. In Utah and I took a flight,
- 5:44Speaker 1: you know, he ended up driving, and I was like, son,
- 5:48Speaker 1: that's way more dangerous, Like fly with me. I'm never
- 5:51Speaker 1: gonna put you on a plane that I think is unsafe.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I'm so adamant about making sure the pilot's great. The
- 5:59Speaker 1: planes had maintenance whatever else.
- 6:01Speaker 2: How do you check all that stuff?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Well, just if we're flying private, you're able to, like,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you know, really make sure it's a great plane. Sometimes
- 6:09Speaker 1: even we'll fly on like someone's plane that we know,
- 6:12Speaker 1: so that makes me feel better. But yeah, he just
- 6:16Speaker 1: drove sixteen hours round trip. I was like, son, that's
- 6:19Speaker 1: way more dangerous it is. But yeah, that's what I
- 6:22Speaker 1: tell myself. And I just got to have faith. And yeah,
- 6:28Speaker 1: what was.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The first plane trip like after twenty years?
- 6:34Speaker 1: It was nothing like I'd imagined it. I I made
- 6:42Speaker 1: a deal with my wife and I just said, hey,
- 6:43Speaker 1: if there's ever somewhere we can't go because she was
- 6:46Speaker 1: a champ man, she was on tour buses with me,
- 6:48Speaker 1: she was on whatever, just you know, going kind of
- 6:51Speaker 1: close by for trips that we'd go on. And I said,
- 6:54Speaker 1: if there's ever a trip that you want us to
- 6:55Speaker 1: go on that I need to fly, just don't tell me,
- 6:59Speaker 1: and tell the night before and let's leave in the
- 7:01Speaker 1: morning and I'm gonna do it. So that's what it was.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And the flight was awesome, had contained none of the
- 7:09Speaker 1: awful nightmares that I had fabricated in my head that
- 7:12Speaker 1: it would be like over the years, and yeah, I
- 7:17Speaker 1: think I just needed a positive experience to cancel the
- 7:21Speaker 1: last bad one that I had. Yeah, you know, yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 1: that helped a lot. And I think I think also
- 7:29Speaker 1: coming to terms with being so close to my godson
- 7:33Speaker 1: who was my assistant's son who passed away in my
- 7:36Speaker 1: plane crash, and his mom and Chay's mom, and just
- 7:40Speaker 1: knowing that there was no there was no hard feelings
- 7:46Speaker 1: and the survivor's guild I was feeling was was my own.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And to just think about them and if the roles
- 7:56Speaker 1: were reversed, would they want me to really just sit
- 7:59Speaker 1: around not flying again, or have this thing have power
- 8:02Speaker 1: over me? Or if I was in their shoes, what
- 8:05Speaker 1: I want that for them? Like? Of course not.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's an experience that so few people ever have.
- 8:14Speaker 2: I mean, I can't imagine what it's like, especially losing
- 8:16Speaker 2: your friends, and yeah, the trauma of the actual impact,
- 8:21Speaker 2: the whole thing just stuck in your head.
- 8:24Speaker 1: It's Yeah. I mean, to this day, I always like,
- 8:27Speaker 1: my wife's a great flyer. My band they're all good flying,
- 8:31Speaker 1: you know, I think they can my wife can probably
- 8:33Speaker 1: envision a trip, plan a trip, envision how rad it's
- 8:36Speaker 1: gonna be. How cool it's going to be doing rock
- 8:39Speaker 1: climbing or whatever we're gonna do. All I can think
- 8:41Speaker 1: about until I get there is like, am I gonna
- 8:43Speaker 1: make it? Is? Is this gonna You know, I did
- 8:48Speaker 1: this once and I almost died, so you know, I
- 8:50Speaker 1: had just stop that pattern of thinking. To the best
- 8:54Speaker 1: of my ability. It still happens a little bit, but
- 8:56Speaker 1: I still can't. I have trouble booking planes, trouble booking
- 9:00Speaker 1: flights without thinking of those things.
- 9:04Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, I can only imagine, Well, it's awesome
- 9:07Speaker 2: that you got through it and got over it and
- 9:09Speaker 2: did it publicly so that other people can get inspiration
- 9:14Speaker 2: from that. Yeah, and just realized like, hey, maybe you know,
- 9:17Speaker 2: maybe for them it was a car accident or a
- 9:19Speaker 2: bus accident or whatever. It is, like you can keep moving.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. And I at the time, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 1: am Am survived with me, and then he lived for
- 9:30Speaker 1: another year and passed away with a drug overdose. But
- 9:34Speaker 1: during that time, where after I'd gotten out of the
- 9:37Speaker 1: burn center and did most of my recovery, it was
- 9:40Speaker 1: hard to find anyone who had been in a plane
- 9:43Speaker 1: crash that was severely burnt, like you know, and lost people.
- 9:48Speaker 1: There was a lot of there's a lot of groups
- 9:50Speaker 1: and a lot of people that like support systems for
- 9:53Speaker 1: people who had were grieving and lost someone in a
- 9:55Speaker 1: plane crash, you know. So it was kind of just
- 10:00Speaker 1: lonely trying to navigate figure it out. Just recently, just
- 10:03Speaker 1: like a few days ago, before my dot came out,
- 10:07Speaker 1: someone kept tagging me and I saw it. It's this
- 10:10Speaker 1: young lady named Riva. She had a similar experience where
- 10:13Speaker 1: she was in a plane crash. Fifty percent of her
- 10:15Speaker 1: body was burnt and she lost her mom in the
- 10:18Speaker 1: plane crash. I was like, this is really similar to me,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and I've never met anyone that had even remotely kind
- 10:24Speaker 1: of the same experience. So I flew her out and
- 10:26Speaker 1: she was at my premiere and it was just it
- 10:28Speaker 1: was just cool, And I said, you know, it's it's
- 10:31Speaker 1: just as cool for me to meet you as for
- 10:32Speaker 1: you to meet me. Like this is I don't see
- 10:35Speaker 1: anyone or meet anyone like you, you know. Yeah, so yeah,
- 10:39Speaker 1: it's cool.
- 10:40Speaker 2: That's a very cool human experience. Yeah, I'll just share
- 10:43Speaker 2: it with somebody and realize, like you've both been through
- 10:47Speaker 2: something pretty horrible, but you came out on the other
- 10:50Speaker 2: side and be comfort in each other.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I think the closest thing that I came to that
- 10:55Speaker 1: was right after my accident and I was out to dinner.
- 10:57Speaker 1: The guy who flew the plane and landed in the river,
- 11:01Speaker 1: remember that. Yeah, he came up and shook my hand
- 11:03Speaker 1: at dinner. Didn't say a word to me, but I
- 11:05Speaker 1: was like, oh, wow, that's awesome. You know, that's a
- 11:08Speaker 1: bad story.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Is fucking crazy crazy birds? Yeah, birds took the plane down. Yeah,
- 11:15Speaker 3: you would think they would have figured that out by now.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, the smallest error. You know, it's insane.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, finds weird. But I preferred over the boat.
- 11:29Speaker 1: M hm.
- 11:30Speaker 2: The boat thing.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You got to Queen Mary's Wild. There's a morg on
- 11:34Speaker 1: there too, because yeah, most people that are on there
- 11:37Speaker 1: are eighty years old and they're doing their one Transatlantic
- 11:40Speaker 1: crossing and so some of them die, a lot of them.
- 11:43Speaker 1: There's a lot of I think every trans Atlantic crossing.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Because I'm on there with my crew and my assistant,
- 11:50Speaker 1: my tour manager. It's like, yep, someone past.
- 11:53Speaker 2: You know, wow. A morgue on the boat.
- 11:56Speaker 1: A morgue on the boat.
- 11:58Speaker 2: There's a morg a jail a jail.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a jail.
- 12:02Speaker 2: How many people are on the Queen Mary Too thousands?
- 12:05Speaker 1: Whoa yeah, I mean if someone pops off on the boat,
- 12:07Speaker 1: they got it. You know, there's there's police. It's legit.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It's legit.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Wow.
- 12:13Speaker 1: And the whole experience. They almost celebrate when you're crossing
- 12:16Speaker 1: the Titanic where the Titanic sits there, they're like playing
- 12:22Speaker 1: the movie on the ship. They're now like this is
- 12:26Speaker 1: this is just different? Yeah?
- 12:29Speaker 2: Fuck that? Yeah, oh my god.
- 12:32Speaker 1: But it was honestly, I would I would practice all day.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I would practice all day. I would run miles across
- 12:39Speaker 1: the ship just on the outside of the ship. There's
- 12:42Speaker 1: a lot of cool, cool times on the boat as well.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Well.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I'm sure you know you usually fly to tour you land.
- 12:51Speaker 1: That's what I do now, and it's like go where
- 12:54Speaker 1: I would just train every day, play drums four hours
- 12:56Speaker 1: a day, run two hours a day. By the time
- 12:59Speaker 1: I got ready, you know, to where I was going,
- 13:01Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm so ready for tour. It's like whatever
- 13:04Speaker 1: whatever life throws at me, I'm good.
- 13:07Speaker 2: It's just crazy that even the Queen Mary Too getting
- 13:09Speaker 2: across in ten days. That's got to be like way
- 13:11Speaker 2: fit faster. Than the old boats used to do it, right.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I don't know, dude, You're going so slow it just
- 13:17Speaker 1: doesn't even look like you're moving. Sometimes you're like, are
- 13:20Speaker 1: you serious. You don't see shit for ten days, just water.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Once in a while, you'll start seeing birds when you
- 13:28Speaker 1: know you're getting close to land. But other than that, nothing.
- 13:32Speaker 2: How many times have you done that trip?
- 13:33Speaker 1: Seven? Yeah?
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think I'd rather fly for sure. It's
- 13:42Speaker 2: just the idea of something going wrong in the middle
- 13:44Speaker 2: of the ocean.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I started to think about it. You're fucked.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you're fucked.
- 13:49Speaker 1: There's no place to land a helicopter on there.
- 13:51Speaker 2: How does someone even get to you. It's a middle
- 13:53Speaker 2: it's thousands of miles out to sea. Yeah.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Both suck to me. Right, Falling out of the sky
- 13:58Speaker 1: in a plane crashing into the ocean sucks. Also, being
- 14:03Speaker 1: sinking in a huge ship with thousands of people fending
- 14:06Speaker 1: for their lives sucks.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I've just watched too many boat videos of like them
- 14:11Speaker 2: navigating insane waves that look like like a building coming
- 14:14Speaker 2: at them.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Dude, I was in it, Yeah, we were in it.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I think I think we had We lost a couple
- 14:20Speaker 1: of windows in the ship and you're basically confined to
- 14:24Speaker 1: your room, but huge where you just see the boat
- 14:27Speaker 1: go up and then you go crashing down and you're
- 14:31Speaker 1: you know, you're four or five days into the trips.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You still got You're in the middle of your crossing.
- 14:36Speaker 2: What does that feel like? A giant boat with thousands
- 14:40Speaker 2: of people sucks?
- 14:41Speaker 1: The Internet goes out usually on the boat and you're
- 14:45Speaker 1: just watching something in your room, just waiting for everything
- 14:48Speaker 1: to get more calm.
- 14:50Speaker 2: How big were these waves?
- 14:52Speaker 1: I think we were in thirty five foot waves? Oh yeah, like, yes, exactly.
- 14:58Speaker 1: It looks exactly like that.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yeah, this freaks me out. Man. Yeah, it's like something
- 15:04Speaker 2: when they this is not that bad. How much the
- 15:07Speaker 2: boats moving though?
- 15:07Speaker 1: This is the hurricane force Windsors says, Yeah, that's like
- 15:11Speaker 1: choppy weather. I mean there's positives too. We saw the
- 15:15Speaker 1: Northern Lights from our cruise one time and it was like,
- 15:18Speaker 1: I've never seen it anywhere else, but it was beautiful.
- 15:21Speaker 1: It's cool.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to make a trip to somewhere like
- 15:25Speaker 2: Norway or wherever you can see it like this. Yeah,
- 15:28Speaker 2: this is yeah.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I almost did that one time. I almost went on
- 15:32Speaker 1: a not a passenger ship, but a cargo ship because
- 15:36Speaker 1: I was trying to find ways to get to Australia.
- 15:43Speaker 2: You were gonna go to austree.
- 15:44Speaker 1: You told me about it. You know, Els doesn't fly
- 15:46Speaker 1: and was on the Queen Mary twice with me. Was
- 15:49Speaker 1: KRS one really Yep? He was like I'm right there
- 15:54Speaker 1: with you traveling. I was like, did something you know
- 15:57Speaker 1: happen to you were why you just confined to being
- 16:00Speaker 1: on ships? He's like, no, I just don't like flying.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So him and his family. Actually, he had told me
- 16:05Speaker 1: about the cargo ship for some of the other places
- 16:08Speaker 1: that didn't have actual cruises.
- 16:11Speaker 2: How long does a boat ride to Australia.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Dude, month? I think it's a month. I mean I
- 16:17Speaker 1: never went. I never went. The plane fight is hard
- 16:20Speaker 1: enough twenty something hours or whatever it is.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Yeah, fuck that fuck a month, which just makes you
- 16:27Speaker 2: really think about the insane adventure spirit of the people
- 16:32Speaker 2: that just took off on canoes and made it across
- 16:36Speaker 2: the ocean.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the people that ask people that do
- 16:39Speaker 1: it by themselves just here to Hawaii.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot of those people. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 16:44Speaker 2: know a dude who just did that. But that's I
- 16:46Speaker 2: mean the people back when there was no internet, back
- 16:50Speaker 2: when there was no newspapers or no nothing. Like the
- 16:53Speaker 2: Polynesian people that just got on boats made it to Hawaii.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Insane.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Yeah, like did you have what? What was Plan B?
- 17:05Speaker 2: What's you know? What do you do if you're out?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Where are you getting water? How do you how are
- 17:09Speaker 2: you staying alive? Yeah?
- 17:11Speaker 1: I think Plan B is making Plan A work.
- 17:13Speaker 2: That. Yeah, that's it, there is no plan. But how
- 17:16Speaker 2: bad does life suck that you're willing to get in
- 17:19Speaker 2: a boat and just hope there's some food when you land?
- 17:24Speaker 2: And they didn't have big boats either, so what what
- 17:27Speaker 2: the fuck were the waves like for them? Also, no
- 17:30Speaker 2: no weather app on the iPhone. You have no idea,
- 17:34Speaker 2: what's coming, zero idea, what's waiting for you? And you
- 17:39Speaker 2: know you're with your family and you're paddling out there.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the unknown, absolutely unknown.
- 17:46Speaker 2: And then how do you get back or do you
- 17:48Speaker 2: or do you just say well, this is where we are.
- 17:49Speaker 2: I mean it must have taken months and months and
- 17:51Speaker 2: months to get out there. How do they stay alive?
- 17:54Speaker 2: Like human ingenuity, Like people's ability to thrive and survive
- 17:59Speaker 2: is pretty insane when pushed to the limits.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Yeah, like people. I have a friend who fasts half
- 18:07Speaker 1: of the year. He's just drinking juice and water for
- 18:11Speaker 1: six months, one hundred and sixty days a year. He
- 18:14Speaker 1: does it every year. How he's a chef. You though
- 18:20Speaker 1: he's a chef. He's actually a chef that took a
- 18:23Speaker 1: vowel silence thirty years ago, a plant based raw chef.
- 18:29Speaker 1: And for half of the year he doesn't eat. He
- 18:32Speaker 1: just fasts, and it's more for like health reasons like
- 18:36Speaker 1: cleansing and and to prevent disease whatever else. But he
- 18:42Speaker 1: gets really thin and then just goes back to his
- 18:45Speaker 1: normal weight the second half of the year.
- 18:48Speaker 2: I don't know if that's good.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I don't know either. But who told you he does
- 18:52Speaker 1: it every year? He might not even he might it
- 18:56Speaker 1: might not even be good, or so he just does
- 18:58Speaker 1: these things. Yeah, I don't think it is for the
- 19:00Speaker 1: year fasting.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I don't think it's good. This episode is brought to

- 19:56Speaker 2: plan features and network management details. I can't imagine that
- 20:01Speaker 2: just eating nothing but juice for six months is good
- 20:04Speaker 2: for you. Yeah.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I have a hard enough time fasting a day before
- 20:08Speaker 1: surgery or something. You know.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Well, it's all dependent upon whether or not your body's
- 20:13Speaker 2: eating a lot of carbohydrates or not. Yeah, if you're
- 20:15Speaker 2: on a ketogenic diet, it's a lot easier. Your body
- 20:18Speaker 2: just immediately goes to burning fat and your your appetite
- 20:21Speaker 2: is not as strong. It's not as insane a pole
- 20:25Speaker 2: the gravity of it. But I can't even imagine why
- 20:28Speaker 2: you would do that fast for six months. Like, I
- 20:31Speaker 2: think there's a lot of data that shows that fasting
- 20:35Speaker 2: for three days and five days and things along those
- 20:37Speaker 2: lines is good causes autophagy makes your body clean out
- 20:40Speaker 2: bad cells. It's very good for people that are recovering
- 20:44Speaker 2: from cancer or going through cancer. It's one of the
- 20:47Speaker 2: first things a lot of doctors tell you. Get on
- 20:49Speaker 2: a ketogenic diet and fast because cancer cells want glucose.
- 20:55Speaker 2: That's what they want to survive, and you starve them.
- 20:59Speaker 2: And when you're your bodies like on a carbon you're
- 21:02Speaker 2: still on a plant based diet, so your body's eating
- 21:04Speaker 2: mostly carbohydrates all the time, so get you have to
- 21:07Speaker 2: kind of refuel all the time. It gets used to it.
- 21:10Speaker 2: So when someone like you takes a day off of food,
- 21:13Speaker 2: it's like the pole of the carbohydrates, like the insulin dump.
- 21:17Speaker 2: It's a lot.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I eat so much protein though. I
- 21:20Speaker 1: get so much protein from lentils, like an insane amount
- 21:23Speaker 1: of protein from lentils, beans, all the natural stuff, not
- 21:27Speaker 1: like mock meats. So like all all my blood work
- 21:32Speaker 1: that I do, my protein is top notch. Yeah. You
- 21:37Speaker 1: kind of figured it out though, too, Like there's a
- 21:39Speaker 1: lot of I mean there's a lot of junk food
- 21:42Speaker 1: meat eaters, a lot of junk food vegans. It's about
- 21:45Speaker 1: dialing your shitt in, you know what I mean, and
- 21:48Speaker 1: figuring it out.
- 21:49Speaker 2: But even you, when you were recovering for your burns,
- 21:51Speaker 2: you started eating meat.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Well, because I had doctors that were super old school
- 21:56Speaker 1: in the in the in the hospital with me that
- 22:00Speaker 1: I figured out I wasn't eating because they were trying
- 22:04Speaker 1: to feed me a bunch of meat and they stuck
- 22:05Speaker 1: a hose down my throat and that just sucked.
- 22:09Speaker 2: So they stuck a hose down your throat.
- 22:11Speaker 1: To feed you like that because I was like secretly
- 22:15Speaker 1: just eating kind of like what I wanted, but not
- 22:17Speaker 1: eating a bunch of the meat because I told him
- 22:19Speaker 1: I don't really meat. So there was like a miscommunication
- 22:24Speaker 1: where they just put a hose down my throat and
- 22:27Speaker 1: we're feeding me like that. And then during that time,
- 22:31Speaker 1: one of my nurses was super cool and he started
- 22:33Speaker 1: making me bags of beef jerky, So I would eat
- 22:36Speaker 1: beef jerky in the hospital to get whatever protein that
- 22:40Speaker 1: they wanted me to have, and then down peanut butter
- 22:45Speaker 1: blast smoothie from what is that? Is it roebucks or
- 22:48Speaker 1: something like that, like one of those, and it's three
- 22:51Speaker 1: thousand calories, so I was averaging. I basically had I
- 22:55Speaker 1: had a six to seven thousand calorie diet. I needed
- 22:58Speaker 1: to hit every day, wow, in order to heal because
- 23:02Speaker 1: I had just had thirty surgeries in six months. So
- 23:07Speaker 1: it was just just trying to to get.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Enough just thirty times. Being anesthetize for six months is
- 23:14Speaker 2: fucking hard on your body.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Yeah it was. I was so out of it. I
- 23:19Speaker 1: didn't really know until towards the end, you know, but but.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Yeah, jeez, man, did you ever try using a hyperbaric chamber?
- 23:32Speaker 1: I couldn't do it after.
- 23:34Speaker 2: You know, my.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Best friend that was in the accident with me, am
- 23:40Speaker 1: was he was I think six percent of his body
- 23:42Speaker 1: was burnt and he went in the hyperbaric and I
- 23:48Speaker 1: think he had a small graft on the back of
- 23:51Speaker 1: his head. He was out of the hospital a week
- 23:53Speaker 1: and a half. But I had seventy percent of my
- 23:56Speaker 1: body burnt. So there was no way I was getting
- 24:00Speaker 1: out of the hospital no matter how much I did
- 24:02Speaker 1: it or didn't do it. I tried doing it, and
- 24:05Speaker 1: I was just in such a awful place after my
- 24:09Speaker 1: accident where I was. I had so much trauma with
- 24:13Speaker 1: like losing my best friends, and I was definitely my
- 24:18Speaker 1: reaction was much different than Adams, and I couldn't. I
- 24:23Speaker 1: couldn't go on the small tube. There was no way.
- 24:27Speaker 1: I think at the time it reminded me too much
- 24:29Speaker 1: of the inside of the plane.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Really.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I just felt really claustrophobic. And I was also
- 24:37Speaker 1: having a hell of a time. Am was sober, sober
- 24:41Speaker 1: for fifteen years.
- 24:42Speaker 2: What happened.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I was a drug addict, you know, before my plane crash.
- 24:47Speaker 1: And you take a person who's self medicating, put them
- 24:51Speaker 1: through thirty surgeries, give them a bunch of pain meds
- 24:54Speaker 1: and they're not working. That was me. So I was
- 24:56Speaker 1: waking up every surgery dreaming, swinging on doctors. Oh complete madman,
- 25:03Speaker 1: you know, until until they weaned me off. And by
- 25:08Speaker 1: the time I got out of there, I was I
- 25:12Speaker 1: never wanted to put anything in my body again. And
- 25:16Speaker 1: I had a great relationship with all my doctors and
- 25:19Speaker 1: doctor Grossman, who owns the Burn Center, the Grossman Burn Center.
- 25:22Speaker 1: It was Yeah, it was full circle.
- 25:27Speaker 2: But that's a crazy trial by fire to get off drugs.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that was my that was my That was my rehab.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Wow, m fuck, dude, that has to be mean. You're
- 25:40Speaker 2: confined to a bed, You're stuck, they're giving you pain medications,
- 25:43Speaker 2: you're going through thirty surgeries, you have seventy percent of
- 25:46Speaker 2: your body burnt, your friends just died, and you're in
- 25:49Speaker 2: this hospital by yourself.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Huge wake up call.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Why the fucking what a wild ride your mind must
- 25:57Speaker 2: have been going through.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's you know, I was coming home from
- 26:03Speaker 1: a show. I was coming home from a gig, and yeah,
- 26:08Speaker 1: who would think you'd get in get in a plane
- 26:11Speaker 1: coming home from a show and you're going to end
- 26:15Speaker 1: up in a burn center for six months. You know,
- 26:18Speaker 1: four people are gone and seventy percent of your body's
- 26:21Speaker 1: burns takes a minute to process.
- 26:25Speaker 2: You know, why did they think you were never going
- 26:26Speaker 2: to be able to play the drums again?
- 26:29Speaker 1: Well, there was a point where they were going to
- 26:31Speaker 1: amputate my foot because they didn't think they could. They
- 26:33Speaker 1: could they they had enough skin left to heal my
- 26:39Speaker 1: foot or save it.
- 26:41Speaker 2: And then.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Because of the amount of burns I had over my body,
- 26:48Speaker 1: they weren't they weren't positive I was even going to
- 26:51Speaker 1: make it. So it was like once they knew I
- 26:55Speaker 1: was out of critical condition and I was going to
- 26:57Speaker 1: make it. They were you know, all my nerves were
- 27:00Speaker 1: messed up in my hands, like my owner nerve was
- 27:03Speaker 1: shot in both hands. My hands were numb. There was
- 27:05Speaker 1: a lot of It's just the unknown, you know.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I can only imagine. I think it sucks that you
- 27:14Speaker 2: couldn't use the hyper bearer because it definitely accelerates healing.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Yeah, even now I go in. I go in sometimes.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Now there's a hyperbaric in Los Angeles that seats two people,
- 27:24Speaker 1: and that's perfect for me. It's just like I could
- 27:27Speaker 1: stay in there for two hours and I'm fine.
- 27:31Speaker 2: It's just a confined space thing for you.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I just don't love being in confined spaces.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't love it still, but I do it. Yeah,
- 27:37Speaker 2: but I've never been through what.
- 27:39Speaker 1: You know, what the mind fuck is is that the
- 27:41Speaker 1: time it takes to depressurize it. So even if you're
- 27:44Speaker 1: like okay, I'm done, they're like seven minutes, eight minutes
- 27:47Speaker 1: whatever while we do pressurize it. I think that's that's
- 27:50Speaker 1: why I just feel better in the two seater.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Yeah that makes sense. Yeah, fuck dude, what now, when
- 27:57Speaker 2: you're doing this documentary, are you. Does it relive all
- 28:01Speaker 2: this stuff for you every time?
- 28:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I was so excited to come on this with
- 28:07Speaker 1: you because I'm like, I'm gonna talk fights with Joe,
- 28:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk whatever, cars, whatever, could do that. But
- 28:14Speaker 1: some of them have been I mean, they've all been great.
- 28:17Speaker 1: But I mean, to tell the truth, I think since
- 28:22Speaker 1: I'm not sure why, but maybe since I was a kid.
- 28:25Speaker 1: You know, I lost my mom at a young age,
- 28:26Speaker 1: like thirteen, Like I could a stranger could come up
- 28:30Speaker 1: to me outside this place and be like, dude, I
- 28:31Speaker 1: just lost my dad, and I'd probably start bawling because
- 28:34Speaker 1: it's sensitive to me. It like triggers something to me.
- 28:37Speaker 1: So yeah, it's like talking about certain parts of the
- 28:42Speaker 1: dock is like gutting me with a knife.
- 28:45Speaker 2: You know, were you conflicted as to whether or not
- 28:47Speaker 2: you wanted to go through with this and relive all
- 28:49Speaker 2: that stuff.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I think I was already far past it. It was.
- 28:54Speaker 1: It was to the point where my dock was done
- 28:57Speaker 1: in twenty seventeen. But I'm like, there's no ending. The
- 29:00Speaker 1: ending sucks. I won't look out a plane, I won't
- 29:02Speaker 1: do anything. And then fast forward. You know that was
- 29:07Speaker 1: their dream ending just stare at a fucking plane for me, right,
- 29:11Speaker 1: and I'm like, nah, you know so. And then fast
- 29:14Speaker 1: forward to now twenty twenty four or whatever it was
- 29:17Speaker 1: when I flew or twenty twenty five, it was like, Yo,
- 29:20Speaker 1: I fly, I fly again, my kids fly, I'm married,
- 29:25Speaker 1: They're like so many things have changed. And that kind
- 29:28Speaker 1: of triggered me to finish it because there was a
- 29:32Speaker 1: huge light at the end of the tunnel now right.
- 29:34Speaker 1: It was like, yeah, I had this thing that had
- 29:36Speaker 1: power for me for twenty years, but I fla agin
- 29:38Speaker 1: and and and I think the other parts of the
- 29:41Speaker 1: dock like an amazing, like rough relationship with my dad
- 29:46Speaker 1: when when I was younger turned into something like beautiful
- 29:49Speaker 1: where he's like my best friend. I wasn't. I wasn't
- 29:53Speaker 1: born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I grew up,
- 29:56Speaker 1: you know not. We didn't even have like running hot
- 29:59Speaker 1: water my house. So it wasn't like my dad was
- 30:02Speaker 1: in the music industry and my mom was an agent.
- 30:06Speaker 1: It was like, nah, I fucking didn't know how I
- 30:09Speaker 1: was going to get out of where I grew up.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And I just played every day and I was relentless,
- 30:14Speaker 1: and I joined every band and I played with everyone
- 30:17Speaker 1: and I practiced two to five hours a day, you know,
- 30:21Speaker 1: So just even giving some kid hope knowing that he
- 30:24Speaker 1: can do the same thing was like a big part
- 30:29Speaker 1: of my documentary that I felt like could help a
- 30:30Speaker 1: lot of people. And then just to see me get
- 30:33Speaker 1: knocked down and just have to fight, you know, over
- 30:38Speaker 1: and over again when fucked up things happened to me,
- 30:42Speaker 1: and just watching me have these things just make me
- 30:48Speaker 1: stronger and stronger and unbreakable. I think that's the resilience.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I think that that that is something for people to see,
- 30:57Speaker 1: you know.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Yeah, there's two great messages in there. The big one
- 31:00Speaker 2: is that you can overcome that no matter how fucked
- 31:04Speaker 2: up things are if you keep going, and if you
- 31:07Speaker 2: keep you stay positive, you do the right thing, you
- 31:09Speaker 2: trust the process. At the end of it, you'll come
- 31:11Speaker 2: out better. Yeah. And then the formula for success is
- 31:15Speaker 2: the same formula almost everyone has. That it is really
- 31:18Speaker 2: awesome at something. Become obsessed, become driven, and just throw
- 31:23Speaker 2: everything you have in that thing, and you come out
- 31:26Speaker 2: better and you eventually get to where you want to
- 31:29Speaker 2: be or get to where you are. It's it's it's
- 31:32Speaker 2: an undeniable formula and kids need to hear that, especially
- 31:36Speaker 2: kids in this world where everybody thinks everything comes quick
- 31:39Speaker 2: and everybody wants to you know, it's a TikTok mindset,
- 31:42Speaker 2: and everybody wants a pill to lose weight, and everyone
- 31:44Speaker 2: wants to it's all the process is the most important thing,
- 31:48Speaker 2: and just get become becoming obsessed and in love with
- 31:51Speaker 2: the process.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and so many people, I don't know, they there's
- 31:57Speaker 1: not a lot of balance, right, Like I've I've found
- 31:59Speaker 1: more bad now. But it's like, no, You've got to
- 32:02Speaker 1: be fucking obsessed, and you gotta be relentless, and you
- 32:05Speaker 1: gotta while all your homies are out doing whatever, you
- 32:08Speaker 1: should be practicing, you know what I mean. You gotta
- 32:10Speaker 1: be disciplined like I'm so you know my parents were,
- 32:14Speaker 1: they were They were really strict with me, Like, yo,
- 32:16Speaker 1: if you want to go skateboarding, you want to go
- 32:18Speaker 1: ride BMX bikes, go whatever, fuck off with your friends.
- 32:21Speaker 1: You gotta go play drums for three hours. So thankful
- 32:24Speaker 1: they did that. Can you imagine if they didn't, you know,
- 32:27Speaker 1: cause the one thing also in my doc is like
- 32:29Speaker 1: every time like my mom dies, what do I do?
- 32:32Speaker 1: I just throw myself into music and drumming, like obsessed
- 32:36Speaker 1: with drumming, you know, join marching band, orchestra, jazz band.
- 32:40Speaker 1: You know, like just literally eat, sleep and breathe it.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Same thing after my accident, What did I do? Dad
- 32:47Speaker 1: got home, I'm outside with scabs all over my body
- 32:50Speaker 1: and I'm playing the fucking drums cause it's like what
- 32:53Speaker 1: I know. And also I think for kids even that
- 32:57Speaker 1: don't have to hopefully endure anything I encounter, it's like
- 33:00Speaker 1: it gives you confidence when you're good at something. It's
- 33:03Speaker 1: like when I don't know anything. I think when kids
- 33:07Speaker 1: bully you, when whatever else, if you're good at something,
- 33:09Speaker 1: you're like, fuck you. Like, I know, I'm really good
- 33:13Speaker 1: at football, I'm really good at jiu jitsu, I'm really
- 33:15Speaker 1: good at guitar. I feel like it just gives you
- 33:17Speaker 1: confidence and it helps you just kind of navigate through
- 33:22Speaker 1: life better.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's a vehicle for developing you as
- 33:26Speaker 2: a human being in totally whatever it is, whether it's art,
- 33:29Speaker 2: whether it's music, whether it's literature, whatever you're doing with writing,
- 33:33Speaker 2: whatever you're doing, carpentry, whatever it is. Just become obsessed
- 33:37Speaker 2: with a thing, get better at it, and you realize
- 33:40Speaker 2: that Okay, I there's a process. I can get better
- 33:43Speaker 2: at things. I'm valuable, I can do something. I'm not
- 33:48Speaker 2: just the lazy sack of shit.
- 33:50Speaker 1: The problem is the masses aren't like that, right, So,
- 33:52Speaker 1: like sometimes you feel lonely being like that, But yeah,
- 33:57Speaker 1: I feel like have you ever read Relentless by Tim Groll?
- 34:00Speaker 2: No?
- 34:01Speaker 1: Fuck, it's my bible. But uh, I just had my
- 34:05Speaker 1: premiere in LA and he introduced my doc It's it's
- 34:09Speaker 1: it's a book, and he basically talks about being a cooler, closer,
- 34:13Speaker 1: a cleaner, you know, and like cleaners are are like
- 34:17Speaker 1: people like you and I that are obsessed with shit.
- 34:20Speaker 1: And you know, if we want a Grammy today, we're
- 34:24Speaker 1: not going to like party for the next week. We're like,
- 34:25Speaker 1: what's next, you know what's next. We're not uh, we're
- 34:29Speaker 1: on vacation and we're practicing, and we're not feeling bad
- 34:31Speaker 1: about it. We're it's just it's it's a mindset that
- 34:36Speaker 1: not a lot of people have, and that almost make
- 34:39Speaker 1: you feel like you're doing something wrong because you're so
- 34:42Speaker 1: obsessed with something.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Yeah, well, people will make you feel like there's something
- 34:45Speaker 2: wrong with you.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Like and I've and it took me a while. Honestly,
- 34:50Speaker 1: after I read his book, I'm like, oh, I'm not alone.
- 34:52Speaker 1: There's a bunch of fucking psychopaths like me that just
- 34:56Speaker 1: I love the fucking drums. I love to make music.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I could stay in the studio for twenty five hours,
- 35:01Speaker 1: you know, and and I don't feel burnt out, and
- 35:05Speaker 1: it makes me feel alive, and it's therapeutic. And I
- 35:10Speaker 1: always I'm never content with where I'm at. I always
- 35:12Speaker 1: know I have room to grow. I know there's things
- 35:14Speaker 1: I can get better at. Yeah, there's and then there's like,
- 35:19Speaker 1: you know, there's people that are very content just being like,
- 35:23Speaker 1: I'm not gonna get any better. I'm just I'm cool
- 35:26Speaker 1: with where I'm at. I know this is kind of
- 35:27Speaker 1: peak level for me. I can never think like that.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I guess that's just how it has
- 35:35Speaker 2: to be in order for there to be outliers. There's
- 35:38Speaker 2: always going to be people that just whatever, for whatever reason,
- 35:42Speaker 2: never follow through, never do what they really want to do.
- 35:47Speaker 2: You know, what is that throw comment the row quote
- 35:51Speaker 2: most men live lives of quiet desperation. There's a lot
- 35:55Speaker 2: of that. There's a lot of people that wish, they
- 35:58Speaker 2: wish they have the energy or the inspiration or the
- 36:02Speaker 2: discipline or whatever it is to do the thing that
- 36:05Speaker 2: they want to do, to get up and just to
- 36:08Speaker 2: do something that really brings them joy, really brings them excitement,
- 36:12Speaker 2: really makes them feel fulfilled, really like ignites that creative
- 36:18Speaker 2: fire inside of them where you do something and it's done,
- 36:21Speaker 2: you're like, fuck yeah, there's a lot of people that
- 36:24Speaker 2: never experienced Fuck yeah, Yeah, it's a rough life.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I feel like that's the journey. Find that, you know,
- 36:30Speaker 1: like yeah, or like that quota, find something you love
- 36:33Speaker 1: and figure out a way to get paid for it,
- 36:35Speaker 1: Like that's the That's great. But I think, yeah, things
- 36:38Speaker 1: like that have just especially after my accident, I'm like, Yo,
- 36:42Speaker 1: life is short.
- 36:45Speaker 2: There's anything can go at any time.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I can go, anytime. I've I've learned, I've been smacked
- 36:50Speaker 1: in the face over and over again, you know, yeah,
- 36:53Speaker 1: and just always feeling like remember, uh, there's this guy
- 36:57Speaker 1: named Harry Shannon that was like very instrumental in helping
- 37:01Speaker 1: me get sober or me trying to get sober before
- 37:03Speaker 1: my accident. When I got sober, and he's like, you know,
- 37:06Speaker 1: I have to ask men, like if you died right now,
- 37:08Speaker 1: would you be the man you'd want people to remember
- 37:10Speaker 1: you by. And I'm like, I need to get to
- 37:14Speaker 1: that place, you know, that's just where I want to sit,
- 37:17Speaker 1: That's where I want to live.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, why I was tell people live your life as
- 37:21Speaker 2: if there's a documentary crew following you around and you're
- 37:26Speaker 2: doing something awesome, Like if you wanted to be inspired
- 37:29Speaker 2: by somebody and watch a documentary on somebody doing something,
- 37:32Speaker 2: just someone who's like, Wow, that fucking dude's getting after it. Yeah,
- 37:36Speaker 2: be that person in real life. The other thing I
- 37:38Speaker 2: always tell people, become the person you pretend to be
- 37:41Speaker 2: when you're trying to get laid.
- 37:42Speaker 1: It's so funny, or who you're pretending to be on
- 37:46Speaker 1: the internet or so, Yeah.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Just actually become that person. It's so much easier than
- 37:50Speaker 2: pretending because there's obviously someone that's like that. That's why
- 37:55Speaker 2: we understand the archetype. That's why we understand like this
- 37:58Speaker 2: very exceptional person. So become that person. Yeah, you could
- 38:02Speaker 2: do it. Anybody could do it. We all change and grow.
- 38:05Speaker 2: And that's what's I think really important about people like
- 38:07Speaker 2: you telling your story is that there's a lot of
- 38:10Speaker 2: young people out there that don't have anybody like you
- 38:12Speaker 2: in their life and they can see it and relate
- 38:15Speaker 2: to you, and it gives them fuel. It can your
- 38:19Speaker 2: story and just you talking about things passionately can change
- 38:23Speaker 2: a young person's life. There's a young girl or a
- 38:26Speaker 2: young guy out there that can hear you, and that
- 38:29Speaker 2: just your story makes them take a step, makes them
- 38:32Speaker 2: go in the right direction, makes them make a move
- 38:35Speaker 2: to something. We all need something from other people. We
- 38:38Speaker 2: feed off of other people's energy.
- 38:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel that. Like it's like when people see
- 38:43Speaker 1: David Goggins for the first time and you're like, oh,
- 38:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna get after it. I'm gonna get out, you
- 38:47Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like that's important. Yeah, And I
- 38:50Speaker 1: didn't know. I said, you know, I've watched my doc
- 38:53Speaker 1: like fifteen twenty times now, and I just I even
- 38:55Speaker 1: watched it the other day at the premiere and I'm
- 38:57Speaker 1: like holding back tears and I'm like, fuck, it's so heavy,
- 39:01Speaker 1: you know. But just the reaction from everyone is like, Yo,
- 39:08Speaker 1: that changed my life. Like I can't look at life
- 39:11Speaker 1: to save And I'm like, if anything.
- 39:13Speaker 2: That's I love that, you know, we all need that.
- 39:16Speaker 1: I hate to put out. Also, it's not like I
- 39:18Speaker 1: made my own documentary. But I was honored and flattered
- 39:23Speaker 1: someone wanted to do this documentary with me, but like
- 39:25Speaker 1: hate to put out something that doesn't help people. You know,
- 39:29Speaker 1: is this water right here?
- 39:30Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, there's a glass right of running.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I ran what is it called Lake Austin. I ran
- 39:37Speaker 1: it today.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's dope. So nice, isn't it beautiful?
- 39:40Speaker 1: So beautiful?
- 39:41Speaker 2: This is such a great place.
- 39:43Speaker 1: If I lived here, I would be out there every
- 39:45Speaker 1: day and tons of people running.
- 39:47Speaker 2: So a lot of healthy people in this town.
- 39:49Speaker 1: And I didn't. My goal was to just wake up
- 39:52Speaker 1: and walk. I went to like this good espresso spot
- 39:55Speaker 1: that has like cortadoes, had a coffee and then I
- 39:59Speaker 1: have like long shorts on, like sweatshorts, cut off sweats,
- 40:02Speaker 1: suicide of tendency sweats and high socks and just regular shoes.
- 40:06Speaker 1: And where I come from, where I grew up, was
- 40:08Speaker 1: called the Inland Empire, like and I'm like, oh my god,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I look so Inland Empire right now, no shirt, sweat,
- 40:15Speaker 1: suicide of tendency. People are like, he's not from here,
- 40:17Speaker 1: you know, But hey, I'm here with you, guys.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but you blend right in. Everybody blends in here.
- 40:22Speaker 2: This is a very blend in town. I love.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I love Austin.
- 40:25Speaker 2: It's great cool. Yeah, but that lake is a really
- 40:28Speaker 2: fun spot and again very inspirational too because there's a
- 40:32Speaker 2: lot of people getting after it. Yeah, a lot of
- 40:34Speaker 2: people that look good, they look healthy.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it was like, uh, I don't know, honestly, I
- 40:39Speaker 1: was surprised really from the moment I touched down yesterday,
- 40:42Speaker 1: just walking like my wife and Rocky, we just went
- 40:46Speaker 1: walking and there was everyone was running even yesterday and
- 40:49Speaker 1: then today it was like similar to when that feeling
- 40:53Speaker 1: where you in LA where you have like those boot
- 40:56Speaker 1: camps or whatever, but there's no organized boot camp. There's
- 40:59Speaker 1: just people off out there getting after it. Yeah. I
- 41:02Speaker 1: love I love being around that.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Well, this is a very fit town. I mean it's
- 41:06Speaker 2: become the jiu jitsu hub of the country.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Really.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's kind of crazy. And it all happened during
- 41:11Speaker 2: the pandemic. You know, there's a lot of things that
- 41:14Speaker 2: changed about this place because people got sick of whatever
- 41:16Speaker 2: the restrictions were for where they lived, whether it was
- 41:19Speaker 2: New York or LA and they came here and a
- 41:22Speaker 2: lot well, it started out with Gordon Ryan, Gordon Ryan
- 41:24Speaker 2: and John Donaher who are the like Gordon's the greatest
- 41:27Speaker 2: jiu jitsu athlete of all time, and he moved here.
- 41:29Speaker 2: And John Donnaher is the greatest coach of all time,
- 41:32Speaker 2: and he moved here, and they set up shop, and
- 41:34Speaker 2: then all the guys they trained with came here, and
- 41:36Speaker 2: then a ton of other people just moved here and
- 41:39Speaker 2: started up schools too. So there's a ton of jiu
- 41:42Speaker 2: jitsu going on here, a ton of mma going on here.
- 41:45Speaker 2: His gym's everywhere, all these functional fitness gyms. It's like,
- 41:49Speaker 2: is like a feeling here. There's an energy of people
- 41:52Speaker 2: that want to do something, that really want They want
- 41:55Speaker 2: to be active, they want to be excited about something,
- 41:58Speaker 2: they want to make something happen. And I think a
- 42:01Speaker 2: lot of that was accentuated by the fact that this
- 42:03Speaker 2: town became like a symbol of change for them, Like
- 42:09Speaker 2: wherever the fuck I used to live before, Now I'm
- 42:11Speaker 2: gonna move to this new thing, and I'm gonna really
- 42:13Speaker 2: take advantage of the fact that this is different, that
- 42:16Speaker 2: this place is different. This is my new place, this
- 42:18Speaker 2: is my new feeling of my life. It's a new environment.
- 42:22Speaker 2: And then all these other people that moved here have
- 42:24Speaker 2: this similar desire to like excel and make their life
- 42:29Speaker 2: more exciting. And it's just it's an awesome place.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel that. I think you usually see it
- 42:34Speaker 1: in New York or LA, but you see it here. Yes,
- 42:38Speaker 1: Like everyone's in shape where it's like it feels like
- 42:41Speaker 1: it's a head.
- 42:42Speaker 2: You know, there's energy here. Yeah, And there's energy here
- 42:46Speaker 2: because of the people that moved here. You know, when
- 42:48Speaker 2: we opened up the Comedy club, I mean we all
- 42:51Speaker 2: came here because there was nowhere we could perform in La.
- 42:54Speaker 2: La was locked down for comedy. And just like you
- 42:57Speaker 2: playing the drums doing music, medians are addicted. They're addicted
- 43:02Speaker 2: to performing, they're addicted to writing, they're addicted to like
- 43:05Speaker 2: and a lot of these guys were young people where
- 43:08Speaker 2: their career just was shut off. And you know, they're
- 43:11Speaker 2: in their twenties and they're they're pursuing their dream and
- 43:14Speaker 2: they're barely getting by. They're making no fucking money. But
- 43:17Speaker 2: they're in Hollywood, they're at the comedy Store and Alsodden,
- 43:19Speaker 2: the Comedy Store is closed for a year and a half.
- 43:22Speaker 2: It was fucking nuts. And so when we came out here,
- 43:26Speaker 2: you know, it started off, it was Ron White and
- 43:28Speaker 2: then me and Tony Hinchliffe and then it was like
- 43:31Speaker 2: we lit the fire and good come on. And then
- 43:34Speaker 2: next thing you know it, there's like twenty world class
- 43:37Speaker 2: comedians moved to Austin and we set up the club.
- 43:42Speaker 2: And then now there's five clubs on my street. On
- 43:45Speaker 2: a street where my club is, there's five other clubs there.
- 43:47Speaker 2: It's crazy. There's so many comics here and it's just
- 43:51Speaker 2: exploding with creativity and enthusiasm and momentum. There's like so
- 43:56Speaker 2: much momentum. Cam Patterson who came out of here just
- 43:58Speaker 2: got snl you know. Shane Gillis obviously just became like
- 44:02Speaker 2: the biggest comic in the world and it's all killed.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Tony's the biggest live comedy show in the world.
- 44:06Speaker 1: That's out of my well, that's out of your club.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Yeah, every Monday it's I get.
- 44:11Speaker 1: All the clippings from it all the time, and I'm like,
- 44:15Speaker 1: he's so funny. Also, Ron, I saw, I saw Ron
- 44:18Speaker 1: White and Shane Gillis uh at the Netflix sucks. Oh right,
- 44:22Speaker 1: Hollywood ball.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Yeah so good. Yeah. I worked with Ron last night
- 44:26Speaker 2: and he's great. He's the best.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Shane Gillis is my favorite. Obviously, he's so he's
- 44:31Speaker 1: so funny.
- 44:32Speaker 2: He's the best.
- 44:33Speaker 1: He doesn't even say anything just in his face.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Well, he's just a great guy. Like you just love
- 44:38Speaker 2: you when you're around him, you're having fun. He's just
- 44:41Speaker 2: a big he's a big smile.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I could imagine. Yeah, they were like, hey,
- 44:46Speaker 1: do you want to go meet him before the thing?
- 44:47Speaker 1: I'm like no, no, no, no, okay, I just want to
- 44:50Speaker 1: I just want to watch this show.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Like, yeah, I'm sure he'd love to meet you. Yeah.
- 44:54Speaker 2: It's just, uh, having a place where a bunch of
- 44:58Speaker 2: like minded people are to do the same thing is
- 45:01Speaker 2: so important and if you don't have that in your life.
- 45:03Speaker 2: That's what I was talking about, Like your story and
- 45:05Speaker 2: your documentary and just hearing you talk about stuff is
- 45:08Speaker 2: so important for people because we all need other people
- 45:11Speaker 2: that are doing a similar thing, or at least doing
- 45:15Speaker 2: a thing that we wish we were doing. That it
- 45:17Speaker 2: gives us. And it might not be for them. It
- 45:19Speaker 2: might not be playing the drums, it might be painting,
- 45:21Speaker 2: it might be something else, but it's like, oh, that
- 45:24Speaker 2: guy has that feeling about drums the way I have
- 45:27Speaker 2: this feeling about playing guitar, or I have this feeling
- 45:30Speaker 2: about drawing pictures, whatever the fuck it is. It's like,
- 45:33Speaker 2: you need to know that this feeling that you have
- 45:36Speaker 2: inside of you and wanting to do something special is
- 45:38Speaker 2: not unique. There's other people that have it. You just
- 45:41Speaker 2: have to find them. You have to find those people
- 45:43Speaker 2: and if they're not around you, at least now we
- 45:46Speaker 2: have this amazing ability to connect with these people through
- 45:49Speaker 2: the Internet. It's incredible.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like they say, like you are who You're
- 45:54Speaker 1: the closest five people that are around you. Yep, it's
- 45:57Speaker 1: like the same.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Thing, completely true.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel that too, and they don't have to
- 46:02Speaker 1: be doing exactly what you're doing. Uh. Yeah, I'm like
- 46:06Speaker 1: in our old neighborhood where because were you on Khalifa? Yes, okay,
- 46:10Speaker 1: so I'm on Khalifah. You know I moved my studio.
- 46:13Speaker 1: You literally left, like COVID hit you left and I
- 46:17Speaker 1: moved in over there.
- 46:18Speaker 2: Yeah I know, I heard.
- 46:19Speaker 1: So I wonder how close we were too.
- 46:22Speaker 2: I think we're real closely. I think we're right down
- 46:24Speaker 2: the street from each other.
- 46:25Speaker 1: So, uh, even just being in that neighborhood, like I
- 46:29Speaker 1: run a lot in there, right and one day I
- 46:30Speaker 1: was running. It was so it was so weird. I
- 46:32Speaker 1: think I saw your pod and Geane Jacques was on it,
- 46:36Speaker 1: right John Jacques Machado. And and then the maybe two
- 46:41Speaker 1: days later, I'm at I'm I'm at Blue Bottle grabbing
- 46:46Speaker 1: a coffee, and him and all his boys from his
- 46:48Speaker 1: his gym come up. They're like, hey, come train, come training.
- 46:51Speaker 1: I'm like okay. And then the next day I'm running
- 46:54Speaker 1: and I don't even know where his spot is and
- 46:56Speaker 1: I'm running and then there's his his dojo, like you know,
- 46:59Speaker 1: his jam and uh, and I just walked in and
- 47:02Speaker 1: started training. But being around him and like his story,
- 47:06Speaker 1: like being around people who have inspiring stories and are
- 47:08Speaker 1: motivating and and are are productive and are hungry, and
- 47:14Speaker 1: you know, it's the biggest, the biggest difference in the world.
- 47:18Speaker 2: John Jack is an awesome soul. Yeah, awesome guy, what
- 47:21Speaker 2: a great guy. Yeah. I started training with him in
- 47:23Speaker 2: nineteen ninety eight. Yeah.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Wow.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:27Speaker 1: I was training a lot, and then I was also
- 47:32Speaker 1: running a bunch and I tweaked my leg. Uh, and
- 47:36Speaker 1: I kind of learned, I think, like me running all
- 47:38Speaker 1: the time. Uh. It wasn't the best for jiu jitsu.
- 47:43Speaker 2: No, you need some strength training. Yeah too.
- 47:46Speaker 1: So now now it's a good balance.
- 47:48Speaker 2: But what do you do for strength training?
- 47:51Speaker 1: It's tricky. I used to just work out. If I
- 47:55Speaker 1: was here, i'd find someone, I'd work out with them,
- 47:57Speaker 1: or have have friends i'd work out with or trainers
- 48:00Speaker 1: back home. But a lot of people see me and
- 48:02Speaker 1: they're like, oh, let's get let's get you jacked. Well
- 48:06Speaker 1: that's not that's not functional for me.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Not functional.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Need to be fucking fast, yes, and I need to
- 48:12Speaker 1: be fluid and yeah, so a lot of people. I
- 48:17Speaker 1: figured out after years and years and years of working
- 48:20Speaker 1: out with different people, what's best for me is is
- 48:24Speaker 1: fast twitch and lots of reps uh, lots of sprints,
- 48:30Speaker 1: quick explosive energy. I love boxing, I love jump roping.
- 48:35Speaker 1: And then a few days is more like slow strength training,
- 48:39Speaker 1: but only followed by like I have to finish with
- 48:42Speaker 1: something fast, whether it's ten rounds on the bag or
- 48:46Speaker 1: whatever else or I literally I remember there was a
- 48:49Speaker 1: tour and I was working out with someone and we
- 48:52Speaker 1: hadn't yet figured it out. We work out still together,
- 48:55Speaker 1: and we do we do something called tempo training, So
- 48:57Speaker 1: whatever music is on, you're doing it to the tempo.
- 49:00Speaker 1: You're doing it for the length of the song, so
- 49:02Speaker 1: it's much longer than you would normally do something, and
- 49:05Speaker 1: it's much quicker than you normally do something. But that's
- 49:08Speaker 1: how I played the drums, and that's gonna that's gonna
- 49:13Speaker 1: help me once I go back to what I do
- 49:14Speaker 1: and it's functional for what I.
- 49:16Speaker 2: Do like that.
- 49:16Speaker 1: But when I wasn't doing that and I was just
- 49:19Speaker 1: throwing around heavy weights and I was putting on muscle,
- 49:22Speaker 1: I was I got behind a kit and I remember
- 49:24Speaker 1: I hadn't really tested it out, and it was the
- 49:27Speaker 1: worst feeling in the world. I was so tight, I
- 49:30Speaker 1: was so slow. I didn't look like this, but I
- 49:32Speaker 1: felt like this.
- 49:33Speaker 2: You know.
- 49:33Speaker 1: It was terrible. I was like, oh my gosh, this
- 49:36Speaker 1: isn't me. I need to be, you know, right. And
- 49:39Speaker 1: my goal, my only goal is to be able to
- 49:42Speaker 1: think something and do it execute stamina wise, endurance wise,
- 49:47Speaker 1: and skill wise. So I'm always practicing and my stamina
- 49:52Speaker 1: is always on point.
- 49:54Speaker 2: So drumming is like sprinting with your arms. Yeah, I mean,
- 49:58Speaker 2: you're just like long term fast running with your arms.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like volume punches.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Like all drummers have a similar build they're all like
- 50:07Speaker 2: wiry and strong and have like crazy endurance with their arms.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Like what you could do with your arms is probably bananas.
- 50:14Speaker 2: I bet you could hit a fucking speed bag all
- 50:16Speaker 2: day long.
- 50:17Speaker 1: I could do battle ropes. I love speedbags. Yeah, I
- 50:20Speaker 1: have one at that at the gym and imagine that. Yeah,
- 50:24Speaker 1: and it's all it's all tempo. You have to find
- 50:27Speaker 1: the rhythm. If the rhythm's not right, you can't keep
- 50:29Speaker 1: the bag going. You know, battle ropes, Oh yeah for
- 50:33Speaker 1: thirty forty minutes okay without stopping that insane.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Yeah, just it's like different thing for drumming. I would
- 50:41Speaker 2: imagine it's such a similar motion.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, but it's so different than like the
- 50:46Speaker 1: average person that wants to work out, Like I don't
- 50:48Speaker 1: get to do that. You know, even though it's cool
- 50:50Speaker 1: or you look cool, you put on a certain amount
- 50:53Speaker 1: of muscle or whatever, it's just I can't do it.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Well. It could get in your way for sure. I
- 50:57Speaker 2: mean I think a drummer wants to be built like
- 50:59Speaker 2: a alter weight boxer. You know, you want to be
- 51:02Speaker 2: like lean and wiry and just have crazy endurance. And
- 51:07Speaker 2: if you just get an intelligent trainer, they understand what
- 51:10Speaker 2: you're trying to achieve. They could achieve both goals, Like
- 51:14Speaker 2: you can strengthen things so that you don't get injured
- 51:17Speaker 2: in jiu jitsu, if you want to do jiu jitsu
- 51:19Speaker 2: but not overwhelm you with mass.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, yeah figured out Like there's yeah, there's
- 51:26Speaker 1: definitely certain exercises I could do once I start training
- 51:29Speaker 1: jiu jitsu again to make sure my legs are cool.
- 51:31Speaker 2: Well, a lot of like really elite jiu jitsu guys
- 51:34Speaker 2: are not bulky at all. There's a lot of like
- 51:36Speaker 2: really thin guys that are like very very high level,
- 51:39Speaker 2: especially because there's weight classes, and you know, what's really
- 51:42Speaker 2: important is technique, you know.
- 51:44Speaker 1: As tricky as the hands too, like not not crushing
- 51:47Speaker 1: my hand and making sure I'm always like gripping properly
- 51:51Speaker 1: and not leaving my fingers out or oh yeah.

- 52:41Speaker 2: break a finger, that's fucked.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Now he's always so good about that.
- 52:45Speaker 2: It's like, well, you just have if you're rolling and stuff,
- 52:48Speaker 2: you just have to make sure you're not rolling with
- 52:49Speaker 2: anybody that's spastic. Anybody that's just like that doesn't have
- 52:53Speaker 2: controlled energy, you know. Yeah, that's the great thing about
- 52:56Speaker 2: rolling with black belts. Like, if I'm rolling with a
- 53:00Speaker 2: black belt, it's very controlled, Like we both know what
- 53:03Speaker 2: we're doing, so everyone's like moving in a very controlled pace.
- 53:07Speaker 2: You very rarely get injured. When you get injured is
- 53:10Speaker 2: when you're rolling with like some young blue belt who's
- 53:13Speaker 2: on steroids, who's fucking jacked out of.
- 53:15Speaker 1: His mind, trying to choke you out, and he's just
- 53:17Speaker 1: a yeah, totally dude, I've been that. I was at
- 53:23Speaker 1: a UFC gym uh, I forget where I was. I
- 53:26Speaker 1: was somewhere on tour and he's like, okay, let's spar
- 53:28Speaker 1: a little bit. We're supposed to be doing light sparring whatever,
- 53:31Speaker 1: just kick boxing boxing, and he does a spinning backfist
- 53:36Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh my gosh, I have a show
- 53:39Speaker 1: in forty five minutes.
- 53:40Speaker 2: Man, Like, you know, he can get concussed forty five
- 53:45Speaker 2: minutes before, but I do. I do love very hard
- 53:48Speaker 2: to control too. Yeah, once you start that rotation and
- 53:51Speaker 2: that spin and that armed going around.
- 53:53Speaker 1: I was I was almost done. So yeah, my son
- 53:56Speaker 1: was there. He's like, oh, I was like, yeah, I
- 53:58Speaker 1: probably wasn't that and good? But yeah, but training is Yeah,
- 54:03Speaker 1: it's it's so awesome.
- 54:05Speaker 2: It's great for getting rid of aggression too, like cleans
- 54:08Speaker 2: your mind up. It makes you relaxed.
- 54:10Speaker 1: For sure, and it humbles you. I think, oh yeah,
- 54:13Speaker 1: I feel like everyone should train or at least do
- 54:15Speaker 1: it at some point in their life because it humbles you.
- 54:17Speaker 1: And yeah, I feel like there'll be a lot less
- 54:21Speaker 1: like hot heads are you know.
- 54:25Speaker 2: Jiu jitsu people are some of the most laid backed
- 54:27Speaker 2: and chill people that can kill you that you'll ever meet.
- 54:30Speaker 1: Yeah, totally.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Most of them are like very easy going, really kind
- 54:35Speaker 2: and very relaxed.
- 54:38Speaker 1: And I feel like it's something you can do even
- 54:40Speaker 1: as you age.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Yeah, as long as you're training with good, smart people.
- 54:45Speaker 2: You know, that's the thing. You got to pick your
- 54:47Speaker 2: training partners wisely, because that's what gets you injured is
- 54:49Speaker 2: spastics people that freak out. And you know, I used
- 54:52Speaker 2: to be a spastic. I get it, you know when
- 54:54Speaker 2: I was young, when I was first starting out, I
- 54:56Speaker 2: was very aggressive and trying to just just force everything.
- 55:01Speaker 2: You do everything fast and then but then one day
- 55:03Speaker 2: you'll train with something like John Jacques, and John Jacques
- 55:06Speaker 2: just he never explodes. He he's never had a balance,
- 55:10Speaker 2: he's never had a position. Everything's just smooth and effortless.
- 55:14Speaker 2: And he's talking to you like why he's rod Joe Hogan,
- 55:17Speaker 2: look out for your Joe Hoogan.
- 55:19Speaker 1: He's like he's having a fun good yeah.
- 55:23Speaker 2: And it's that's It's an art. It really is, especially
- 55:26Speaker 2: when it's done well, like the way Jean Jacques can
- 55:29Speaker 2: do it. It's like it is an art. It's beautiful
- 55:31Speaker 2: to watch. You watch someone with a beautiful guard pass
- 55:33Speaker 2: and then nail a triangle and it's like, oh my god,
- 55:36Speaker 2: it's beautiful.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think I'd done it in the past,
- 55:40Speaker 1: and it was it was it was a lot of fun,
- 55:42Speaker 1: and it was almost like chests up here, mm hmm.
- 55:44Speaker 1: But I didn't feel like it was a much of
- 55:48Speaker 1: a workout, whereas with him, it's like two hours. He's
- 55:54Speaker 1: making it like a show. There's no there's no stopping
- 55:58Speaker 1: for long periods of time, and we're just dripping sweat
- 56:02Speaker 1: and I weigh a buck fifty and he's whatever, two hundred,
- 56:05Speaker 1: you know, and he's just yeah, it's it is a workout,
- 56:09Speaker 1: and it's just challenging and you're engaged the whole time,
- 56:12Speaker 1: and yeah, feel it just feels good.
- 56:14Speaker 2: And when then, if you watch fights, you really appreciate
- 56:18Speaker 2: what's going on because you've tried to do that. And
- 56:20Speaker 2: you know, because a lot of people get very delusional
- 56:23Speaker 2: when they watch fights, like.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Oh, yes, get in there, all fucking these guys up,
- 56:28Speaker 4: Like yeah, most men have a very delusional understanding of
- 56:33Speaker 4: or belief in their ability to fight.
- 56:35Speaker 2: So doing it gives you like, oh, well, this is
- 56:38Speaker 2: fucking really hard. And then you watch people at an
- 56:41Speaker 2: elite level. You know, you watch Jugashan O'Malley or something
- 56:44Speaker 2: like that, and you're like, oh, fuck, that's hard to
- 56:46Speaker 2: do what he just did. That's crazy. Yeah, it gives
- 56:49Speaker 2: you a real true appreciation of the amount of effort
- 56:53Speaker 2: and the amount of just discipline and intensity that this
- 56:56Speaker 2: guy's put in over years and years and years to
- 56:59Speaker 2: achieve this level where you're watching something spectacular in front
- 57:02Speaker 2: of fifteen thousand people and millions of people on television.
- 57:06Speaker 1: I couldn't imagine.
- 57:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:08Speaker 1: I was with Don one time and me and Dom cruise.
- 57:11Speaker 1: He was just like try to sleep me, and I'm
- 57:13Speaker 1: like okay, and you know how fast he is and
- 57:15Speaker 1: how like I swing and he's over here. You know,
- 57:18Speaker 1: it was like, oh, I was so humiliating. But and
- 57:21Speaker 1: then he just was just grappling me and not letting
- 57:25Speaker 1: me move. And he's like, he's like, don't ever, don't
- 57:29Speaker 1: ever when you're in a fight, be like do something,
- 57:31Speaker 1: do something. This is what it feels like. You know,
- 57:33Speaker 1: he was just keeping me there, and I'm like, oh,
- 57:36Speaker 1: I have much more respect for just Yeah, when someone's
- 57:41Speaker 1: even just holding someone against the fence, that that feels awful,
- 57:44Speaker 1: you know.
- 57:45Speaker 2: It drains you. It drained me.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and then to start a fresh round where I'm
- 57:49Speaker 1: trying to sleep him was it was it was impossible.
- 57:52Speaker 1: It was impossible to begin with, but it was even
- 57:54Speaker 1: more impossible.
- 57:55Speaker 2: You know, his footwork is ridiculous. It's ridiculous, and he
- 57:58Speaker 2: really invented a lot of his footwork, Like his footwork
- 58:01Speaker 2: is very Dominic. Cruz when he was the champion, when
- 58:04Speaker 2: he was a bantamay champion, had some of the most
- 58:07Speaker 2: elusive footwork that anybody had ever seen before. It was
- 58:11Speaker 2: so unique and so different, and you couldn't get anybody
- 58:14Speaker 2: to emulate it in training because dom system he pretty
- 58:18Speaker 2: much developed on his own. And there's a lot of
- 58:20Speaker 2: videos of him training it, a lot of videos of
- 58:22Speaker 2: him moving and it's so unusual that you see guys
- 58:26Speaker 2: in front of him and they're just mesmerized because it's
- 58:29Speaker 2: step step here, step step there, pop step step here,
- 58:33Speaker 2: kick step step here, elbow and you're like, fuck, where
- 58:36Speaker 2: is he? Yeah? You know, and that was such a
- 58:39Speaker 2: smart because he's such an intelligent guy, which is why
- 58:42Speaker 2: he's such a great like MMA analyst, yea, so smart
- 58:46Speaker 2: and he just really figured out like Okay, I don't
- 58:50Speaker 2: have the most power. I'm not the strongest guy. I'm
- 58:52Speaker 2: not the biggest guy. What what can I have? What
- 58:56Speaker 2: can I develop that gives me an advantage over everybody? Well,
- 58:58Speaker 2: I can be like the most elusive, the most slick
- 59:02Speaker 2: moving guy that's ever existed.
- 59:04Speaker 1: And I feel like a lot of people in his
- 59:06Speaker 1: division adopted it from him. Oh for sure figured it out.
- 59:09Speaker 2: You know, well they had to adapt. Yeah, you know
- 59:11Speaker 2: when that guy's you know, dominating people and you can't
- 59:14Speaker 2: do anything about it. I mean he humiliated a lot
- 59:17Speaker 2: of people. He was in front of them, and they
- 59:19Speaker 2: they developed this style that was fine if someone's standing
- 59:23Speaker 2: right in front of you and engaging with you, like
- 59:25Speaker 2: right in front of you and there to be hit
- 59:27Speaker 2: and taking a shot and then giving one back. Donald's
- 59:29Speaker 2: doing none of that. He's like, whoop here, I'm over here.
- 59:32Speaker 2: But he's like, you know, very much like Lomachenko did
- 59:36Speaker 2: in boxing, just doing weird shit that people hadn't seen before,
- 59:40Speaker 2: and really kind of again developed it on his own.
- 59:42Speaker 2: If you look at like his the camp that he
- 59:44Speaker 2: came out of in San Diego, there was another guy's
- 59:47Speaker 2: doing it like that. It was really just him. Yeah,
- 59:51Speaker 2: very very unique guy. But I love that there's styles
- 59:56Speaker 2: that sort of rise, that that exist that someone just
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: sort of creates. They just realize, like, what what do
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: I have physically as uh, you know, as my tools,
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: and how can I implement these tools in a way
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: that's different than anything that these guys have seen before.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Yeah, because there was nothing like him, No, there was nothing.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: But then you see guys that came up after him,
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: guys like TJ. Dillshaw, who was also awesome with footwork,
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: and you know, a lot of his footwork, guarantee was
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: inspired by watching Dominic and a lot of these other
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: guys that are these Corey Sanhagen guys that are constantly
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: switching stances. They all this this style developed out of
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: that because before Dominic Cruz, there really was no one
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: who had footwork like that, not even close. And so
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: when you see TJ. You know, like who, in my opinion,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: was one of the greatest band of weights of all time,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: like when he beat Hennon Barrau, like one of which
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: was Hennon Barrow at the time was thought to be,
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: if not the best poundful pound fighter in the world,
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: at least number two behind Josey Aldo, and he was
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: undefeated and TJ just styled on him. I mean it
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: was and he went out there like he was sparring.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: It wasn't even like he was fighting for the world title.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: He went out there like super loose and focused and
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: relaxed and just switching stances and cutting angles and hitting
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: them with shots and move to the left and hitting
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: them with a head kick to the right, and like,
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: fuck yeah.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: He put on a show that way.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: One of the greatest title winning performances in the history
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: of the sport. For sure.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: I wish I wish he didn't, you know, struggle with
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: so many injuries, yeah, and everything because he was. It's
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: a tragic phenomenal.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: It is a tragedy. I mean, he has significant shoulder injuries,
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: like to the point where I think he's gonna have
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: to get artificial shoulders because he had no super spinnatus
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: on both arms that was just completely ripped off, and
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: he would just like strengthen all the other muscles and
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: just deal with it and then it would just pop out.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: You know. When he fought al Jamaine Sterling, he told
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: the referee in the green room, he said, my shoulder's
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: gonna pop out, but it's okay. I'll put it back,
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: let me keep fighting. Imagine that you're going to fight
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Aljamine Sterling for the world title, who's a beast and
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: one of the best grapplers ever, and you're thinking, uh,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: I have to deal with the fact that my shoulder
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: is going to definitely get dislocated in this fight because
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: it just doesn't stay. Yeah, it's just this loose fucking
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: thing that just pops out all the time. And he's
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: trying to fight and just just all will and discipline
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: and intensity.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: That was Dombs shoulder too.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Right towards the end, Dom had a bunch, he had
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: a cls, he had the shoulder was the last one.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: That was the last straw, his last shoulder surgery. Yeah.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: I mean, look, it's the human body is not designed
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: to be punched and kicked and to be grappled and
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: strangled and twisted and armbard. It's like, at a certain
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: point in time, it just gives out. Yeah, that's just
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: how it is. Yep. And it sucks because you know,
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: some of these guys have so much more to give
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: in their mind and their body just fails them after
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: a certain point in time. And you see that with
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: some of these older guys. It's like they've just had
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: a bunch of knee surgeries and maybe a back surgery
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: and this and that, and then they're a shadow of
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: themselves inside the octagon.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes it's sad to watch, you know, but I
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: also understand the feeling of that's all you know, and
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: you just want to keep fighting.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Well, it's also they have this insane belief in themselves
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: and they always think that.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: It's what got them there.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Also, you know, that's how they became a champion in
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: the first place. Like people telling you you never play
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: the drums, you're never gonna run, you ever gonna and
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: you're like, I'll show you. And that's how they all are.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: They're all like I'll show Like it's over. You got
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: to hang it up, it's over. Your time is gone.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: Like no, no, no, I got one more in me. Yeah,
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: I got I got three or four more fights in me.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: I'm gonna fight until I'm forty one or whatever it is.
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: That would be so hard. I think of Dustin and
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: I think of like even his fight against Islam m
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: HM and his fight against uh, what's the French fighter?
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Then while siuneder kneath Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Dog, I couldn't tell myself, I need to hang up
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: the gloves if I fought like that, are those fights?
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: He's a fucking beast. Yeah, he's a beast like Dustin
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: to me, isn't He doesn't look like he's at the
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: end of his career. He's still very competitive. And I
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: think that was the best fight against Islam anyone's fought.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: You know, it was a very good fight. He's an
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: elite I mean, Dustin's an elite fighter.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: So I could see being Dustin and struggling with like, ah,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: this is hard for me to stop fighting because you're
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: that fucking good.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: Well with Dustin, the physical issues aren't even really like
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: joints and neck, and it's his head. He's had too
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: many brain injuries and that's he's got some sort of
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: a separation between the two halves of his brain. There's
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: like some issue with the center of his brain.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I don't even know about that.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he's talked about it pretty openly, but I mean,
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: you know, he had that that incident where he got
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: drunk and got crazy. But that's a lot of that
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: is CTE, I guarantee, And you know, he's doing a
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: lot of things to try to mitigate that, and he's
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: seeking help. And really there are some ways that you
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: can recover at least in some way and improve on
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: what you're doing. But I think for him it's best
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: to not be fighting anymore. You know. It's just at
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: a certain point in time, you're only going to accumulate
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: more damage and then whatever you're dealing with now is
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: just gonna get worse and then maybe you can't recover
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: from it. True, And you know, he's got a family,
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: and he's in this situation where it's like, I want
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: to be there for my family. I don't want to
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: be this guy that's like completely compromised when I'm fifty
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: sixty years old, where I can't walk anymore and someone's
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: got to take me around and hold my hand. Yeah,
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: because there are guys like that, you know, especially like
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: older boxers. You run into some old boxers and it's
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: like it's really sad man. Yeah. You know, you see
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: guys like Tommy Hearns talking. It was like not much
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: older than me, and you see him talking and moving around,
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: You're like, fuck, like he paid a price. Yeah, these
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: guys pay a price. It's a rough way to make
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: a living.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Yeah, the fight game is crazy.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: It's the craziest.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: I'm happy my drums don't hit me back straight up,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: you know, I'm like, yeah.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: It's also you can do what you do for a
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: long time. I mean, you can play drums for a
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: long time when you're fighting. Your peak is such a
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: small window of life, and it's just there's so much
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: that you have to pour into it, and then eventually
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: you have to realize that that windows closed and you
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: have to move on, even though you're still young and
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: you still have all this life. And look at a
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: guy like Dustin. He looks fucking great, you know, he
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: looks great, he sounds great, and he talk to him
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: he seems like he's all there physically, he looks like
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: he's never been better. But the window was closed, you know.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: There's Yeah, there's these young guys coming up and they
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: don't have the injuries that you have, they don't have
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: the problems that you know, they don't have the wear
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: and tear, and they're going to get to you before
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: you get to them. And maybe they wouldn't have gotten
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: to you five years ago or six years ago, but
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: they again now and it's just not there anymore, and
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: it's hard for guys to accept because their entire identity
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: is based on this one thing. It's very fleeting.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: So that's that would be the most difficult thing in
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: the world.
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but the glory that they experience is above and
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: beyond anything we're ever going to know.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I heard someone talking about it and they were saying,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: imagine being a cage fighter, and it's all you've prepared
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: for for the last twenty years, to be locked in
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: a cage and your underwear, to scrap with someone and
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: have the most grueling fight camps, and then you're just
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: we're just going to take you out of it, and
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: you can't do that anymore. It's like that's all you've known.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: You know. It's a they experienced a different life than us.
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: You know, highs are way higher.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: And highest of high's lowest the low's.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: The rest of the life is kind of gray and
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: dull in comparison to the bright lights. I mean, it's
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: sort Connor keeps trying to come back. It's like all
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: these guys, it's like that thing like Connor is worth
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: like a half a billion dollars. He doesn't have to
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: do anything anymore if he doesn't want to, but he
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: still has this thing inside of him where he wants
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: to reclaim that lost glory.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: Whatever the discipline that could be bad, where he could
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: just he completely walked out on top right on top
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: of that. That's beautiful, huh. And And if everyone could
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: have the the discipline to do it like that, that,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: you know, that's rare.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: That guy's got Mount Everest discipline. It's like a different
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: kind of discipline. And his why is one of the greatest,
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: one of the greatest of all time. And that's why.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: You know what's interesting is he's stayed training. He's been
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: training ever since he retired, and he says he's much
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: better now than when he retired. Wow, could you imagine,
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: isn't it crazy? He says he watches his old fights
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: and he sees mistakes that he made and how he
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: would do it differently now, and how he does things
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: differently in training now. And I know guys who trained
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: with him, and they say, he's fucking malls people. He's
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: mauling these like, you know, top ten UFC contenders, and
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: he gets in there with them, they can't hold on
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: to him. He's fucking He's an animal.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: I believe it.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: And he's not even thinking about fighting again. But he's
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: an awesome coach now too, And having a guy like
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: that in your corner, imagine the inspiration that a young
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: fighter gets having Kabeeb Norma Gametov coach them, Like you're
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: being coached by one of the most ruthless, disciplined guy
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: that's ever competed in the sport, retired, undefeated, one of
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: the rare ones, and he's your coach, and you want
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: to make him happy, you want to make him proud.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Yeah, having his guidance.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: Yeah, well, he's going to be in Islam's corner this weekend.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: I'm leaving tomorrow. He's gonna be That's a good fight,
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: very very interesting fight because Ian Machao Gary is a
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: very difficult guy to get a hold of, very tall
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: and long, fast as fuck, very smart, knows how to win,
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: knows how to adapt and change.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Islam striking fierce too though.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, it's a lot better than it used
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: to be. And uh at like the same level as
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: all the other guys in the sport, which is really
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: crazy because his grappling is above and beyond. So it's
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: like you're dealing with a guy who there's no picnic
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: on the feet. He'll fuck you up on the feet.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: I mean he knocked out Volkanovski with a head kick.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: He's elite on the feet. And then when it comes
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: to the ground, there's no one like him. There's no
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: one like him in the division, in any division. He's
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: he is a crusher, and he just crushes people.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Yeah, he's nasty.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: I mean, think about how good Charles Oliveria is, one
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: of the greatest submission artists of all time. Islam got
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: him down to the ground and just smushed him, just
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: crushed him quickly, just made him tap quick.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: It was incredible. It was going to be more competitive
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: everybody did. Yeah.
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's how good Islam is, you know. And
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: he's also a guy that, like you, cannot train harder
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: than him, It's not humanly possible. So he goes into
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: every event knowing it is impossible for someone to train
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: harder than him. It's impossible for someone to have tougher
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: people in camp than he has. I mean, those guys
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: out of Daghistan are on a completely different level. I
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: mean there is an entire room filled with absolute savages
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: and they're just getting after it every day, full discipline.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: No one drinks, No one parties, no one does everything.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: They pray five times a day. They're super religious and
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: they're just driven. Yeah, and you know he comes into
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: that fight with that kind of confidence. Because of that,
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: it's gonna be a fun weekend. Yeah. That main event
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: is very tricky because Ian can move.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: He's a really slick guy, really tall, and he's also
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: very fast and long, so he's going to have a
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: significant height and reach advantage. He's going to be moving
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: all over the place landing, and if Islam is not
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: careful in how he engages, he could get caught. And
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: you can only get caught by a guy like Ian
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: a couple of times, if at all, you know, before
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: you're in trouble. So it should be very interesting. Those
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: are the kind of fights I love that are a puzzle.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like styles make fights. Oh that one, that's
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: like a great example.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: Yes, And it's also Ian has this insane confidence. He
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: has this insane belief that he's special, that you know,
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: this is his destiny and that you know, I mean,
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: he's It looks like that at every way in. It
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: looks like that at every stair down, it looks like
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: that at every press conference, like this is his destiny.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: He really believes that, which is another huge thing that
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: a fighter has to have, like almost a delusional belief
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: in themselves. Yeah.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: I saw an interview where he was he actually said
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: he believes in the balance, uh, with his family, with
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: every part of his life. Where most fighters will only
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: focus on fighting during the eight to ten weeks they're
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: fighting or their training, and he's like, no, I actually
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: need everything to be in order to make this one
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: thing go great. So I believe in more balance than imbalance.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: I think it interesting.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: Depends entirely on the person and also depends entirely on
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: what does your family look like? You know, what is
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: the relationship with your wife and your children? Like is
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: it harmonious and is it you do you get love
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: from it and strength and inspiration? Or is there chaos?
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: Is there like arguing all the time and bickering and
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: pettiness and bullshit.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: And like the Mark car fight, the Curve fighting Machine,
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: Oh my god, when she's fighting, when she's squabbing with
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: them right before he goes out to fucking fight. I
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: was like, ah, I was like I could feel for him.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Oh dude, I've seen him before. I've seen that with
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: multiple fighters. Multiple I know one guy who, during the
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: night before the fight, his girlfriend at the time would
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: always start fights with him, like huge fights, like because
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: she didn't like that this one thing fighting was more
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: important to him than her. She wanted to be the
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: entire focus of his attention. And when there was this
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: thing that was taking away she was a complete narcissist,
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: this thing that was taking away from his attention to her,
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: she would sabotage it. So she would start fighting. She
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: would storm out of the hotel room, slam the door
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: and just be gone, shut her phone off. And here
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: he is, freaking out. He's got a fight for the
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: world title in you know whatever, twenty hours and he's
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: he's dealing with this nonsense.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: It's the worst. So I can't imagine.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: Well, I think that's why some guys they'd rather take
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: that isolated approach. They just they would rather or just
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: do the spartan thing and just be alone in camp
- 1:15:04Speaker 2: and sleep on a cot and wake up in the
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: morning and run and just live this like very hard
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: six to eight week life.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: I feel that part, like I can't even even leading
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: up to shows. I can't be too comfortable. Really, Oh, no,
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Like I can't get a massage before I go play
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: or be chilling in my hotel room. I need to
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: be uncomfortable.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: Really, Yeah, why is that?
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: I don't know, It's just it's all I've known too,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: you know, it's like that. I don't know. I came
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: up like lugging my own gear around, setting up my
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: drums and then waiting for the show to start. And
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: I don't. I can't just watch a movie before I
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: play or wake up from a nap. It's just it's
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: just not in me. I'm up jump roping, I'm up
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: like watching fights. I'm up going for a run, practicing,
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: learning something new. That's the best headspace for me to
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: be in.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: Well, I would imagine what the difference between drumming and
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: I think any other kind of musical instrument is it.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: It's so physical. It's so physical that it's like a workout,
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: like you you have to be in shape to drum,
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: you have to.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, sluggish, Like, I don't know, I'm I'm a fucking
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: weirder though. I'm like worried about like what I eat,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Like do I have enough energy? Have I?
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Yeah?
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: And just jump roping before I play.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: Dialing it in right and knowing what you need because
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: of the experiences that you've had, You've had so many experiences,
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: so many performances, that you can just dial it in.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: I think that in that way, it's very similar to fighting,
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: is that every fighter has to have their own approach.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: And Ian's approach is to have his family with him
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: all the time, and Islami Katschev's approach is very different.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: It's like Spartan, all those guys together, you eat and
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: train with the guys, just separate yourself from everything.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's super personal.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's got to be personally because everybody's got a
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: different Everyone has a different personality, different mindset, different different
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: trick different things that fuck with them, different things that
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: calm them down, you know. Yeah.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: Also, I have all these weird whatever where I'm jump roping, running,
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: practicing for hours before I go on stage. And then
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: there's the times where everything I get thrown a curveball
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: and I get to the venue five minutes before and
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I can go up and do it like like no
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: problem because I think I've done all this other preparation, right,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: It's like I also know it works without it.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: Yeah, right, you're always ready. Stay ready, so you're always ready.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, I live by that. Yeah, stay ready so
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: you don't have to get ready. Yeah, that's the that's
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: the goal.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Well fighters have that too, because the fighters that
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: get like really out of shape in between fights, they're
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: the ones that really struggle.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Because Patty, Yeah, where you see him blow up like
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: a week later, it's like, yeah, but in the.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Same person, Patty, it's a little deceptive. Really, Patty gets fat,
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: but he doesn't get out of shape. Patty's got incredible
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: and an insane work ethic, but he also really loves
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: to live and live life. You know, also have a
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: few beers, eat some pizza, get fat, but he still
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: could go to the gym and probably outwork everybody. Like
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: it's there's no way you're in the kind of shape
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: that that guy's in if you're not training all the time.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: So even when he gets fat, it's just eating. He's
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: just eating piles of food. I'm sure. If you if,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: I'm sure when you see him with his big moon face,
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: if you got to the gym and worked out, you'd
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: be like fuck yeah. Still, it's not like he's going
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: to be exhausted and lying on his back after one
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: round on the bag, not like he's it's only fat, yeah,
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: you know, and then he's got the And then there's
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: also this part of the discipline of the weight cut
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: is like this locking in and focusing where you're measuring
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: all your food and like there's there's a certain like
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: shift in the mindset that takes place when he goes
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: from being fat to ripped, and he goes from being
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: fat to rip Yeah, I mean he does it better
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: than anybody because everyone looks at him like, oh, that
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: guy's never gonna make weight, and then he shows up
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: at the weigh ins shredded, chiseled.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: I don't think I see anyone with as big of
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: a transformation.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: No, No, his is beyond and people love him for
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: it too. That's also part of the craziness of it.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: They celebrate it because I'm so silly.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: Yeah, he's so likable, Yeah he's he's Yeah, he's great.
- 1:19:29Speaker 2: So fucking skillful too. What he did the ben Walls
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: under knee was nuts, and oh yeah, that was.
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: One of the best fights I've seen in person. I
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: was like, what the fuck just happened?
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: Well, you see what Gaatechie just did to Iliot Daporia
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: And now you realize how fucking tough Patty is. Yeah,
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: Patty's tough. He's he's silly and he's playful and he's
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: a lot of fun and everybody loves him and he's
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: all likable and he's dancing around, but when it gets
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: down to it, that motherfucker is tough as nail.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: Yeah, scary, how quick that was?
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: And gay Chee's just fuck thank god for him. Yeah,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: he's so so I was so happy me too.
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: It was incredible. And seeing him do that in the
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: White House on the lawn of the White House and
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: win the world title when everybody thought, I mean, he's
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: like a six to one underdog on some sports books,
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: which is nuts. I thought that was very disrespectful. Was crazy.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: Yeah, And when he was like, I couldn't. I couldn't
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: let him fucking win just based on what I how
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: bad he was going to disrespect me after he beat me,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: mm the ship he was going to say on the
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: mic or whatever. I was like, Nah, it wasn't going
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: to happen. I love that.
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: I love that Sometimes you fuck with a guy's head
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: so much that you give him fuel to recover and
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: survive when he might not be able to ordinarily. But
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: the thing about Gai Chee is he has zero quit
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: in him. You can't get him to quit. He's never
- 1:20:57Speaker 2: going to quit. It's like you could break his body
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: down like Max Hollwi did and knock him unconscious and
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: there's nothing you can do about that. You get knocked unconscious,
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: you're knocked unconscious. It's just physical.
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: I've never seen I've never seen Gaygee like that. You know.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: In the Max fight, that was no and I love
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Max and I just yeah, that was like shocking.
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it was pretty crazy. It was pretty crazy. It
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: was that was uh. And then to have him go
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: from that to become the world champion just a year
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: and a half, two years later whatever it was, it's amazing.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Sixth story.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a great sport man. I mean, there's nothing
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: like it in terms of like the true intensity and
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: the emotions and the excitement. There's nothing like it. I
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: think the last time I saw you was at a
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: UFC at the Apex. I think that's the last time
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: we went into each other.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: And Ghanua and Stepe fought.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Was that what it was? Wow, wasn't that crazy? Oh?
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Being in that small venue when that.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: Happened, was like small venue, no audience. Why, there was
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: probably like maybe fifty people in the whole room, maybe
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: one hundred in the whole room.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: You could hear a needle drop two when it happened.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: I think that's the first fight I took my wife
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: to and she was like, what, like yeah, yeah, oh.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: That was a devastating fight too. And there was also
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: you have a heavyweight fight in the small octagon. So
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: the Apex for people that don't know, has an octagon
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: that I think is thirty or forty percent smaller.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: Damn is it that much smaller?
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: Yeah? How much smaller is? Let's put that into perplexity,
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: ask it. How much smaller is the UFC Apex octagon
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: versus the regular octagon that they use in arenas, And.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: You're trapped in there with Francis exactly exactly, and also
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: Francis looking for revenge.
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: Yeah, because this is steep a beat Francis in his
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: first loss. Okay, thirty percent, thirty percent last space, that's
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: a lot, man, thirty percent is crazy. So you could
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: see the images there when you see the Apex next
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: to the big one, the pay per view one like
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: that is a lot of space and you're just stuffed
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: in there with a guy who is one of the
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: absolute scariest fucking guys that's ever lived, and you can't move.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: You know, there's not a lot of movement. A lot
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: of people like that because it's kind of you know,
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: it forces action, but I think the space provides more
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: of a canvas. You know, no pun intended for them
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: to paint their masterpiece. You got to be able to
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: have angles to get out. And if you're just constrained
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: by an object, which is a fence, when maybe if
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: that object wasn't there, you could move to the side,
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: move in and counter. You know. I think like when
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: Sugar Shan Omalley knocked out al Jamaine Sterling and Aljamain
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: is pressing forward. Now, if the cage was closer, he
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: wouldn't have been able to move back as far. It
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: cuts off a lot of the possibilities, cuts off a
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: lot of things. That was another shocker, right, Oh, it
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: was amazing. Yeah, when Sean did that at the White
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: House and saluted when he knocked out that guy, and
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: then and.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: The walk off walk off and it's hard, so hard.
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: And he said he envisioned it, which is even cooler,
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: like he saw it in his mind. Mm hmm, that's
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: what he was gonna do.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that was great he had Actually we were texted
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: back and forth. He's like, I need to knock him out,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: and I was like when it happened, I was like, oh,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: that's that's just like right off into the sunset.
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: You know. Well, in his position, he really needed something
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: special because Morob versus peoter Yan wasn't formally wasn't form
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: formally announced yet, and it was thought like maybe if
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: Sean had a spectacular event, he could get the next
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: shot at the title because he has a victor over
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: peeld Yon. That didn't come to be. So now peoter
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Yan and Morob are having a rematch, and after that rematch,
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: if I had a guess, it's most likely got to
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: be Sean fighting for the title again to.
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: Put and he has that win over Peter, so that's
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: he's guiding, right, But.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: He doesn't have a win over Morob. So Marob wins
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: the title again, he's gonna be like fuck.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like you said, styles make fights, that's it.
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean it doesn't mean that he can't beat Morob.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: I mean I think Sean could beat anybody. But it's
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: just he's got to figure out whatever it is that
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: he needs to figure out to solve that puzzle. That
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: is that little Georgian Tasmanian devil that never gets tired.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: Yeah, just he's like the energizer a rabbit, like just
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: keeps going.
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: Dude, have you ever seen what Morob's face looks like
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: when they did like an X ray of his face
- 1:25:36Speaker 2: an mri just broken nose. No, it might be the
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: most insane broken nose I've ever seen in my life.
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: Don't say he's not going to get it fixed.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: He's not gonna get it fixed because then he'll have
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: to take a year off of fighting. Not only a
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: year off of fighting. I don't think he can even
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: spar for a long time, So he can't. That's what
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: his nose looks like.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: Whoa yo, it looks like. Do you know who Pusshead is? No, okay,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: puss Head's the illist artist. Where he did like Misfits,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: he did like Metallica stuff. He did these skulls. Tell
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: me that doesn't look like that looks like Morob's face
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: the top right right there, So he did like Zorlak
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: skateboarding did a bunch of thrashold stuff. Yeah, dude, exactly,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: we gotta, Yeah, Morob's gotta do a skull t shirt
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: or some kind of merch with that.
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: To look at he totally should that should be his logo.
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: Look at that nose, man, Look at the break of
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: the bone. How hard it's turned towards his right eye.
- 1:26:34Speaker 2: I mean, it's really insane. I mean he must not
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: have any ability to get oxygen out of that nose.
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: Yeh.
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: His cardio must be all mouth breathing, which is even
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: more insane when you think about how much endurance that
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: guy has. Look at his nose, I mean it's crazy.
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: The twist in that thing is fucking insane. I mean
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: it's like it covers part of his vision.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like he's he's been out what six
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: seven months.
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: Now, it's been a while. Yeah, it's been a while
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: since he fought again. I mean, but it was because
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: he lost the title to Pyota and now they're going
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: to have a rematch.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: And what he had defended the belt three times in
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: that year, right m h.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: It was three times? Yeah, well it was definitely a
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: strength of schedule was tough because you know, you're going
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: through these camps, you have these brutal weight cuts. It's
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: like your body gets worn out. And but then there's
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: also peoter Jan who had fought Marab before and lost
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: to him and realized what was necessary to beat the
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: guy and fought a perfect fight.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: Yeah, that performance was amazing.
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: Joan's a fucking assassin too. Man, He's a scary guy.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: He's a ruthless, mean, technical, vicious guy. And now he lred.
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: He knows that he can beat Morab. So it's going
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: to be interesting to see, like who makes the adjustments
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: in the rematch. When is is that happening? Is that
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: scheduled the Morab fight? I think it is. I don't
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: know when it is, but I'm ninety percent sure that
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: they've scheduled that fight. That might be Salt Lake City.
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: Is that the Salt Lake City fight? I don't know,
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: but it's exciting. Yeah, Yeah, it's a It's a great
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: time for the sport. I mean the sport is it's
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: on fire right now TBD, but it is announced No,
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: I mean no, the Salt Lake City has a TBD
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: for that. Oh but does if you look up Morob
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: versus Podion too, does it say where it's happening.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: Usually it says his next fight on the thing I'm
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: looking at.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: It doesn't have anything popped up. I'm pretty sure they've
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: announced that that's happening La card. It looks yeah you going, Yeah,
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: I think so that should be fun. Yeah, the are you?
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: How are you touring right now at all? Like? What's
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: going on?
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: No, I'm just in the studio this year. Oh okay,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: writing and producing a few albums and then was finishing
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: this doc.
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: So what is the LA card right now? It's Pantosia
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: versus Joshua Van samsing a post that says it's reported
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: to happen in Abu Dhabi in October. Oh, the rematch
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: with and Morob Okay, that sounds that makes sense. That'd
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: be a good one for Yeah. Yeah, the LA card
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: is gonna be sick. So it's armand Sarukian versus Mauricio Hoofi.
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: That's gonna be insane.
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: Like Kano versus Ortega.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: That's this weekend. Oh, sorry, which one? Did you want?
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: The LA Card?
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: No?
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: Worris Uh that's it? Yeah, so the rematch between Joshua Van.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: And I can't wait to see what happens.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: Man, That Pantosia arm break was such a bummer to
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: have him fall back like that. Yeah, my Kano versus
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: Brian Ortega. Yeah, it should be fun gable Steve since
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: again Cheeto, Yeah against Charles Jordaane. Yeah, should be fun.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: LA crowds are always fun too, because UFC doesn't get
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: to La very often. It's always pretty hyped up.
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm excited when it comes to LA. I love Vegas,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: but something about LA. You know you still like living
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: there Los Angeles? Yeah, yeah, I love it.
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: I mean, do you feel any difference over the last
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: five years, six years since the pandemic.
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean for me, my goal is to not
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: drive past De Soto's. That's the goal. That's like my
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: living is is wake up with you know, my wife
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: and my kids, go to the studio, come back. Well.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: I actually I just bought a garage where I keep
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: all my cars. So some days I'll leave my house.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: It's a three mile run. I'll run to my garage,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: pick up one of my old school cars, drive to
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: the studio, then drive back home. That's the perfect day.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: Oh I don't drive past to Soto that's nice. Yeah.
- 1:31:04Speaker 2: Yeah, if you could do that and avoid the real
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: chaos that's the center of the hive of LA.
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: Yeah, once in a while, I'll get out if it's like,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: you know, someone's a show or something that you know,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: me and the wife want to do, or me and
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: the kids. But other than that, studio home, studio, home, train.
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: Smart Yeah, yeah, that's definitely a better life.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: I have friends that live in the heart of it,
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: like in West Hollywood. I'm like, what is it like, Like,
- 1:31:34Speaker 2: it's not the same. Yeah, it's not the same.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: It's just yeah, I couldn't do it. The days I'm
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: in the city, I have a bunch of stuff I'll hit,
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: you know, like I'll go to crossroads, I'll go do whatever.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: But it's rare.
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I can only imagine. Yeah, did you ever think
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: about getting out?
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: I don't know if I could do it yet. I think, like,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: for what I do, you know, besides like playing Blink
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: or touring. When I'm home, I'll get a call and
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: they'll say it, can we come by the studio. I
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: want to make this with you. I want you to
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: play drums on this. I'll see game walking in my neighborhood.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: Travel.
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: I need you on this. Record, blah blah blah. I
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: just there's so much that happens right there. For me,
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: I think there'll come a time where I don't need
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: to be there. But right now I feel like I'm
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: in demand, and I'm playing on a bunch of stuff,
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: and I'm recording a bunch of stuff, so it makes
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: sense for me.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: Do you ever have some thought about like living in
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: the country and retiring somewhere, just like laying back. Yeah.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: We we were on tour and there was a huge
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: storm in Nashville area, so we were in Franklin for
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: a few days, Franklin, Tennessee, and we immediately started looking
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: at houses like that, we gotta go here. But we
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: we kind of do that everywhere we go, you know.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: We you know, you travel, you go on vacation. You're like,
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: we want to live here, we want to get a
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: spot here. But I do. I do love southern California.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: We have a spot up north, like in Santa Barbara.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: I love Santa Barbara as well. I love the desert.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: I feel like moving around in southern California keeps things fresh,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: like going to the desert for a week or a
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: few days, going to Santa Barbara and then during the
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: week staying in Calabasas or like Los Angeles, and you know,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: working out of there.
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: The Monacito area is insane.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Monaco. And I also feel like the desert, like
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: Coachella out there is you feel like you're in a
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: different world. You feel much further away from LA and
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: all the chaos than you are.
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: Yeah. It's cool, Yeah, no doubt. I mean, how many
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: people have gone out to the desert just to try
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: to find themselves? Yeah. True, It's it's a very unique
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: environment out there. Yeah. Kind of weird that they decided
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: to put music festivals out there. I know, it's wild.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: One of my best friends I when I when I
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: left home at at around like sixteen seventeen, my dad
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: had given me a couple options to He said, join
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: the military, like me, start paying rent, or take off.
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: So I took off right. Was a trash man in
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: the Gunna Beach for a while. Then I moved to
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: Riverside and I lived with my friend Bill Fold. He
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: had this promoting company called ninety eight Posse, and he
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: would do everything from raves to punk rock shows, hardcore shows, anything,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: and he ended up starting Coachella and it's just been
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: he was obsessed, Like what we talked about earlier, he
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: was one of those people that were obsessed, and I
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: watched him build this amazing festival, and yeah, he's just
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: pretty pretty awesome. But the city of Coachella is it's
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: crickets all the rest of the year, there's nothing. It
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: gets so hot, it's one hundred and fifteen. Most businesses
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: closed down halfway you know, through the day. They're open
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: for the morning, and then when Coachella happens, the city
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: thrives and it's just, you know, chaos.
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: Are they happy with that? That seems like there's probably
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: a lot of conflicted people.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't own a business out there,
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: but I bet for everyone that's struggling when it's one
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: hundred and fifteen, hundred and twenty and no one's coming
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: out of the house, right, I feel like they're almost
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: like Coachella saves them, Like the festival saves everybody.
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: Oh, definitely, just the volume of people in the town.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: The volume of people that comes through, I think saves
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: all the businesses. For sure. You have a business when
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: we're out there and it's not like the season or
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: whatever they call it, and it's considered too hot. Most
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: businesses are open from nine to one pm.
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: That drive out to the desert though, it is like, like,
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: better make sure your air conditioning works. Yeah, and no
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: old school cars. Don't be taking none of your old
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: school cars on that trip.
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Well, the only thing I've driven from LA to Lakinita
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: out there is have you ever heard of Velocity? Yeah?
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: I got a K five from them. Oh you could
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: drive that out there, but seconds one of those Yeah
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: they're sick.
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he got one of their their blazers.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: They make such a great K five.
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Yeah, he loves his. Yeah, they I think
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: I see it. Yeah, it's all black.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: Oh it's brown, it's brown. I'm color blind?
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: Are you really?
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: I'm fucking severely color blind. I have to ask my
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: two and a half year old son what color things
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: are sometimes how bad It is like I'll be like,
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: what color is your favorite? And then he'll tell me
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: what colors?
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: Tom does that.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: Kind of Yeah that really looks black to me.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's pretty okay. That's in the shadows.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: That's like I have all I have an all black one.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: What a sick looking truck.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: So a lot of people build these k fives and
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: they do resto mods, but they they're either overbuilt and
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: they don't drive great, or it's like, uh, it's it's
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: over it's either overbuilt or it doesn't run great, or
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: they do too much. Like this isn't overdone. They make
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: the perfect rest of it.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: It's reliable.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's reliable. Oh yeah, there's mine.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: Oh nice. Oh you got a very old school looking
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: I love it. Yeah.
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: I wanted it to look almost like bone Stock.
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: It does.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: I have a couple k fives, but this is the
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Velocity one. I have a og orange one with plaid
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: interior that's seventy two that still has the old school
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: engine and everything.
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: Oh really, and it.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: Just stays in Palm Springs and that's where we drive
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: that one.
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: Does it have the old school breaks too?
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: Nah? Yeah, fuck that that's it right there. But see
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: how it looks like it shouldn't leave the Palm Springs.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: It's you know, my wife drives it a lot.
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: Oh that's cool. Yeah. Kvives are dope. I have a
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: seventy two Bronco from Icon Sick.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: Icon was great. Yeah they made a blazer.
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: Yeah they did.
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: I almost bought it. It was so good and he's
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: so cool. John Yeah, yeah, I feel like he he
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: kind of set.
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: It all off. Jonathan Ward, Yeah, that's the one.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: Okay, So I built I built that with a Delmo
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: and a couple people around LA. I just took it
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: from shop to shop. This was my version of a Velocity.
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: But nothing's sick.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: It didn't drive as good as a Velocity restaurant.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: Well, it's also you're so lifted. Yeah, like the handling
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: of the thing must be rough, like going around corners
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: and shit.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: It was really cool. I was really proud of it.
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: It's beautiful.
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:38:20Speaker 2: That's very cool looking. There's something about that iconic dis design.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: There's something with the way those things look like that. God,
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: it looks awesome.
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: I just remember as a kid seeing topless Chevy trucks,
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: Like I was like.
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: What this is?
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: It doesn't get any better than this.
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it is a There's a weird thing about old
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: school cars. They just they spark something in you. Yeah,
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: they're they're more excited. Like I like new cars. I
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: love new cars. They're cool, but they don't have the
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: same feeling. There's something about those old schools. It's just
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: like it's mechanical like you're connected to it, you know.
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I'm a sucker for old Chevy's and
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: Cadillac and I have a bunch.
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: That's like, how many cars do you have now?
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: I think I have twelve. I have a lot of
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: old school and Paula's real school, like sixty fives. I
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: have a fifty nine.
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: Oh whoa real old school.
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I have a sixty two wagon in Paula sixty
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: three convertible in Pola, sixty Cadillac.
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: G and x Bro sixty Cadillacs. We wow, it's so.
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: Do you have a picture of that thing?
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: I think it might it might be on the interweb somewhere.
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: Nineteen sixty Cadillacs were crazy.
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: Oh that's my old that's my old nineteen sixty Caddy.
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: I used to have that. Look at that thing.
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: That is wild.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: Good luck parking mat.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: And nothing feels like that when you drive those cars.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: Oh, I'd imagine it's a boat. That feels like you're
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: in the middle of the Queen Mary. Yeah.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: Look that was my fifty three.
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: That's yours of the far right.
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: These are all my cars in my collection from at
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: some point in my life.
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're an old soul dude, I am there
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: must be there's something about you that connects with these things.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Yeah, old cars move. I don't know. I like the
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: smell of them. I like everything.
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: They're just hard to maintain. Yeah, really good mechanic.
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: It's hard. Do you know what kind of feels old
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: school that I got recently? That but that's new is
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: the Chevy Fox truck.
- 1:40:28Speaker 2: What is that?
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: Thing's a fucking beast. See if you can pull it up,
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: it's the Fox, the Fox Chevy Silverado.
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: Is this a new recently?
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: It's Chevy's answer to the Raptor or the the TRX.
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: That's mine right there. So it's usually they usually have
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: orange accents, but I did online Matt Black. So it's
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: just I think it has six or seven hundred horse power.
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: It has like Baja suspension. You could drive it anywhere,
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: So it's just like a Raptor.
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: Yeah, why do I not know about this? That's crazy?
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: The Fox Factory Silverado.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: That's my that's my daily Fox shocks.
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: Yeah, so Fox shocks that are collaboration with them.
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: Yeah, the guts, like you could literally jump this truck
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: wherever the fuck you would, you know, So.
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: That's your daily driver yeah, I have a Raptor.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: I love the raptors too.
- 1:41:22Speaker 2: I have a Hennessy Raptor. R.
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: Oh those are hard.
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: That's fun. That's a beautiful truck. Yeah, thank you. There's
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: something about those kind of trucks too that's exciting. Thousand
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: horsepower trucks ridiculous. It's like, how do they look at
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: that thing in the air? That's so crazy? Do you
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: ever take it on the dunes?
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: I haven't yet. When they when I bought it, they
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: came out to Uh, they came out to the desert
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: and brought a couple and we just whipped them around
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: the desert and we're supposed to plant a day where
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: we go out and jump and do everything. And they're like,
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: we'll even let you use one of your our trucks
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: so we don't fuck up yours. I was like, oh,
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: that's nice that yeah, because it is all carbon fiber fenders,
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: it's pretty cool.
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: Yeah. So they stretched it out and widen the wheelbase
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: and everything. Yeah.
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: And you can't even buy them in the States like
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: you have to. I mean in California you have to.
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: I had to ship it from Vegas because of all
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: of the the extras.
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: Because it's supercharged, So California won't let you buy it, and.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: I had to go through this process of pretending I
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: bought it somewhere else. Yeah, what a goofy fucking st Yeah,
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: super happy with it.
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: We are doing another studio and we're going to do
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: a studio at the circuit of the America's Racetrack and
- 1:42:42Speaker 2: so like this, uh huh cool, Yeah, exactly at that place,
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: that racetrack so, which is in Austin. And so what
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: we're gonna do is have it set up where you're
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: gonna be able to go around the track. We'll you know,
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: do some laps and then pull in and then have
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: a podcast.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: Cool.
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: I love that, which would be great because you'll, I
- 1:43:01Speaker 2: feel like, for your mind, your mind will be so
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: jazzed up after you do a bunch of laps on
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: a racetrack that you'll you'll come in you'll.
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: Be like, ah, oh ready to go.
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: For sure. It'll be really fun.
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: Because I bet some people row themselves up, like to
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: come up in here and get really nervous or like,
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: Some people did it's crazy. Well, you've done it a bunch.
- 1:43:20Speaker 2: You and I have talked and hung out before. So
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: it's like it's easy for some people. It's like doing
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: anything that's got a lot of views, get some weirded out.
- 1:43:28Speaker 2: It's hard. Yeah.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you were honestly one of like the
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: first podcasts I did. Besides like Rich role back in
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: the day.
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: But how's Rich doing.
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: He's great?
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: Okay, he was. He had some health issues.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Right, I think I think he just had like a
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: back surgery or something. Yeah, but he's all, man, he's
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: so cool.
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: He reached out. I mean, he just reached out a
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: couple of days ago saying I love I love your doc,
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: and I'd really love to talk to you again. So
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: I'll definitely visit him. But when I was when I
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: started my running journey, he had reached out and was
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: like anything you need.
- 1:44:02Speaker 2: Oh that's cool, Yeah he was. He's super nice guy,
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: so cool. Yeah, very very nice guy. But yeah, I'd
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: read something about him having back problems, and I always
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: get sad when I hear about people that have back
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: problems and I hear they had surgery. Oh he looks
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: fucking great.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: It looks like he's healthy.
- 1:44:17Speaker 2: Yeah, fucking shredded.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: I feel like if you're running all the time or
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: training all the time, you're bound to have some type
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: of injury too.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: The back thing scares me though, when people get surgery,
- 1:44:28Speaker 2: because there's a lot of options other than surgery that
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: are probably going to be better for most people. Yeah,
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: depending upon the situation. Of course.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: I broke my back in four places in my accident,
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: oh Jesus, and I didn't know about it because I
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: was laid out in a burn center for six months
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: and I never got any surgeries. Like my doctor exactly
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: said what you just said, it's like you healed perfect,
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: Like it's me doing surgery. I can't guarantee you'd be
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: in a better place than you are now.
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: Yeah. So I have friends that have had back surgery
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: and they have gotten better because of the back surgery.
- 1:45:03Speaker 2: But I also have a lot of friends that got
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: back surgery and they never were the same again, and
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: they had to get another back surgery and then another
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: one and they have nerve damage and their arms go numb,
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: and then they have atrophy and their limbs.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: And surgery sketch.
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: Well, it can be, but there's other ways around it.
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: When it comes to like disc issues, and this is
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: one of the things that I try to highlight to people.
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: There's PRP. There's a place in la and Santa Monica
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: called life Cycle. Is that it? But they do something
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: called regeni Keine, and regina Kine is a type of
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: I've gone to them a bunch of times. How can
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: I not remember the name of it? Isn't it? Life cycle?
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: Life Cycle, Santa Monica? What's that? Lifespan? Lifespan, Sorry, Lifespan,
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: Santa Monica, Lifespan medicine, phenomenal place. Shout out to Mosha,
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: my friend there. But they do PRP, but it's a
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: different kind of piece. It's called Regenikine, and what they
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: do is they take your blood, they pull it out
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: of your body, they spin it in a centerfuge and
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: do some sort of process to it, and then they
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: reinjected into you the next day into the discs. And
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: it's an insanely potent anti inflammatory agent. And it was
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: the first thing that I did that ever fixed my
- 1:46:20Speaker 2: bulging discs where I had bulging discs in my neck
- 1:46:23Speaker 2: to the point where I was getting numbness in my fingers. Yeah,
- 1:46:27Speaker 2: all from jiu jitsu, damn. And it was really getting
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: me to the point where I was like, I don't
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: think I could train anymore, Like every time I train
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: him in agony, like it keeps getting worse. And I
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: would go in a chiropractor and he was full of
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: shit and they weren't helping me at all. And then
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: this Regenikine thing, and like within a week I started
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: feeling better. Two weeks later, no more numbness, no more
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: tingling in my fingers. And then within a couple of
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: months after that, I was fully healed. I got another MRI.
- 1:46:54Speaker 2: My disc had completely gone back in place.
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: Wow, it's game change.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: Yeah, because it was pulling, it was pushing out and
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: pressing against the nerve, and it was causing pain, like
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: nerve pain in my elbow and it was the ulnar nerve,
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: same nerve that you were talking about.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: Scary, right when you start getting like tingly feelings in
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: your fingers you can't feel them.
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: Yeah. It was also one of these things where I
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: was like, Okay, I think I might be done with
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: jiu jitsu, Like this is a real problem. But I
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: got back into it because of this. So Regena Keen
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: fixed that. And then I've also had stem cells now,
- 1:47:27Speaker 2: Like stem cells can especially if you go to a
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: place that really is on top of everything, and then
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: they're using state of the art stem cell technology. Like
- 1:47:37Speaker 2: there's a lot of places you have to go out
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: of the country, like CPI down in Mexico.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: So I was going to ask you, is there places
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: in the States.
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: Ways to well? Waste to well right here in Austin
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: is the best place I've ever been to. I haven't
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: been to the places overseas, but I've had phenomenal results
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: with Waste to Well and I brought a bunch of
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: people in that have had fun out. Like we just
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: brought John Jones in recently he's got hip problems. His
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: hip feels much better, he said. We brought a bunch
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: of MMA fighters in al jaminer Sterling, who was just
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: here a couple days ago. He was there a waste
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: well on Monday, and so Waste Well as like my
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: friend Brigham who runs it is it's literally like state
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: of the art, whatever the fucking science is at the moment,
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: he's on top of it. And they've got hyperbaric chambers,
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: they've got red light therapy, they've got every every single
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: method of treating injuries and recovery. They're always on top
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: of everything. They have a full gym, down there, it's
- 1:48:31Speaker 2: really sick. It's an awesome place. But for you being
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: you know, either when you're out here, if you ever
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: want to get treated, if there's something wrong, if you
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: have an injury, you could definitely go to here to waste. Well,
- 1:48:41Speaker 2: we could also go to Tijuana, like Tijuana where the
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: CPI is. That's the place that has the They have
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: a partnership with the UFC, the Cellular Performance Institute in Tijuana,
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: amazing place. I know the guys who run it, and
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: that's another very similar state of the art place, but
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: they aren't restricted with the type of there's different restrictions
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: in America in terms of what you can and can't do.
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: Down there, it's the wild West. You can kind of
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: do anything. And so I know a lot of people
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: that have had pretty phenomenal results going there.
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm wondering. I have this. I have this gene
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: factor five where I clot really easy. So I wonder
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: if I could do it.
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: Let's find out what why would that like?
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: For example, I can't do IVS really how come because
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: I have really thick blood. I have a blood disorder.
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: Not really easy and that's a genetic variant.
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I didn't. I didn't really know about it
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: when uh, when my accident happened, I had a bunch
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: of clots and just so I put a filter that
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: lives in my body forever. It's like a permanent filter
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: that kind of like funnels the blood so it doesn't
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: get stuck.
- 1:49:57Speaker 2: Where's the filter.
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: It's like between my back, in my stomach. Wow, yeah,
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: to stop anything coming up, like big clots from my leg.
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: Holy shit, hard on my head. So a filter?
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: What's it made out of?
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: It's plastic. Unfortunately, because I've read a bunch about him,
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: I went on this whole journey because when I found
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: out about it, and they said, we had to put
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: this in you or you could have died because you
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: had huge clots. But you can't remove it. And they
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: have a life expectancy of about twenty years. And then
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: sometimes the filter breaks inside of you or oh can
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: cause whatever. But yeah, I just have PMA positive mental attitude.
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: It's not going to happen.
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: How long ago did you get it put in?
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: It was like my accident whatever year that was two
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: thousand and eight.
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: So it was almost twenty years ago. So you might
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: have to get it taken out.
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: You can't take it out. It's cemented to the wall. Yeah,
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: so like you can't you can't do anything with it. Now.
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: About ten years later they started making ones that are removable. Yeah,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: mine's not removable IVC filter. Yeah, that's exactly it.
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: They can't take it out and put a new one
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: in that's removable.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: Sure, positive.
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: That seems crazy.
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: They say that the surgery to take it out would
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: be more life threatening than leaving it in.
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: Whoa yeah, and so what happens if this thing breaks
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: and fails?
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: So ironically, it could do the same thing a clock
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: would do. It would go up to your heart or
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: your head, kill you.
- 1:51:39Speaker 2: Oh fuck man, that's it, huh. IVC filter devices top
- 1:51:45Speaker 2: blood clots to prevent them from traveling to the heart
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: and lungs. Wow, do you have to take any kind
- 1:51:50Speaker 2: of medication for this?
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: Just blood thinner? When I when I fly fly, because
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: I know I clock, or if I'm if I'm on
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: a tour bus for law long long periods of time,
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: I got to take a blood dinner. But then I
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: don't take them every day because it's also a risk
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: to be on blood dinners and if you get in a.
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: Car or whatever, any kind of cut.
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: Yeah right, but I honestly I forget about it. I
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: forget it's even in there. Just but yeah, just like
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: but you know how some people will go on, they'll
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: do a marathon and then they'll get an IV. I
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: can't do that, or I just have to really be
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: cautious about getting poked. Yeah, I had a I had
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: an incident that happened years ago where someone was just
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: trying to find my vein and she had poked me
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: tons of times, this nurse, and I had thirty clots
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: just in one of my arms.
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: Holy fuck dude.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: So yeah, I've also learned the lesson of not being
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: really cautious in what happens, you know.
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: Yeah, so I can't believe you still spar when you
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: have that. That seems nuts because like you get leg
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: kicked and develop in your legs.
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: Yeah I could. My doctor's pretty cool and he doesn't
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: over worry about too much or anything. He said, I'd
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: rather you not have a blood thinner in your system
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: if you're playing drums and you cut yourself open, or
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: if you're boxing or light sparring. So yeah, me knock
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: on wood.
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: So it's called factor five.
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Factor five.
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's just a rare genetic condition.
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Wow, well I think a lot of people have it.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: I think there's I don't know how rare it is,
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: but yeah, the people do. You can have half a
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: gene or a full gene, and I have the full one,
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: so I'm really prone to clotting. Where my kids, like
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: my one daughter Alabama, she has half of it, so
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: it's not as concerning, but she has to be cautious.
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: Huh whoa Yeah.
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: And is there anything you can do with the supplements
- 1:53:55Speaker 2: or anything like that that aids that, uh.
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: Like a natural blood dinners, beat beat juice or like
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: beat shots. So I pretty much have one every day
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: baby aspirin.
- 1:54:08Speaker 2: Beat juice is supposed to aid also in like oxygen utilization, right, yeah,
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: I mean it ritual was actually the guy who told
- 1:54:16Speaker 2: me about that.
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: It was the pre workout before pre workouts. Really yeah. Yeah,
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: people would just slam beat juice or or a shot
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: at beat juice. I do it every show, beat juice,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: shoot beat juice, like an hour before you go on stage.
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: Drinking about one cup two hundred and fifty milliliters of
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: beatroot juice daily can help lower systolic blood pressure. The
- 1:54:40Speaker 2: top number by a few points. The natural dietary nitrates
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: in beats convert into nitric oxide in your body, which
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: relaxes and widens your blood vessels to improve blood flow.
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: Oh so it's like nature's viagra.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it is, basically.
- 1:54:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: No, that and gentsing my go.
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: Is awesome for energy, so good. Yeah, it's kind of
- 1:55:04Speaker 2: amazing how many different natural remedies there are that really work.
- 1:55:09Speaker 2: And we were all sort of brainwashed when we were
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: younger to think that the only thing that's good for
- 1:55:15Speaker 2: you are drugs from the pharmaceutical company that if you
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: have anything wrong with you, the medicine is all medicine,
- 1:55:22Speaker 2: that's petroleum based pharmaceutical drug medicine and that's what's good
- 1:55:27Speaker 2: for you. And all that other herbal stuff is all
- 1:55:30Speaker 2: for retards. It's all for nonsense and hippies and people
- 1:55:33Speaker 2: that don't read books.
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: Well because they brainwash us.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: Hight.
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't take any medicine. I don't take advil,
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: Thailand all good for you anything.
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: That stuff that The thing about Thailand or advil, I
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: should say for people that take non steroidal anti inflammatories
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: like ibuprofen, that stuff is terrible for your gut.
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: Is it thailand All super bad for you?
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: Now? Well, Thailand All. Well, there's a really sad story
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: that I read during the pandemic of this lady who
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: had COVID and she was in so much pain that
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: she kept pounding tailand all, and she died from liver
- 1:56:09Speaker 2: toxicity because tailand all, which has a seed of menaphon
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: in it, kills people every year. How many people? I
- 1:56:17Speaker 2: know we've looked this up before, but I don't remember
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: the number. But it's not a small number of people
- 1:56:21Speaker 2: die from a ceda menaphine poisoning from things like thailand
- 1:56:25Speaker 2: All every year. It's quite a few. Yeah, It's like
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: you think, oh, Thailand All is not going to kill you.
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: It's just like a pill, and it won't if you
- 1:56:33Speaker 2: just take one, or if you take two or whatever
- 1:56:35Speaker 2: you're supposed to take. But if you take a lot,
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: you're fucked. Five hundred death per year, largely through overdose
- 1:56:41Speaker 2: related acute liver failure. Some estimates put it roughly for
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: what does that mean? Four fifty eight? About five hundred
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: reasonably shorthand, Yeah, a cedamnifhin is fucking poisoning, it can
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: get you. You know, if you take a lot of
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: it and the I don't think that's the same with
- 1:56:59Speaker 2: ib prof I don't think there's a lot of ibuprofen desks.
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: But I do know that my friend Cam Haynes, who runs.
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: I Love Cam.
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: Have you ever met him? Yeah?
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: Yeah, we run together.
- 1:57:09Speaker 2: Oh really yeah? No shit.
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: He actually did one of my uh you know how
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: I was saying, I'm like really into temple training where
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: like you'll temple train, you'll do like a vigorous like
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: resistance weights and then you'll sprint, you know. He came
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: and did one with me and he was like, fuck drive.
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: He was like that was that was a lot, you know,
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: and we went on. Uh we we run anytime he's
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: in l a I Love Cam. Like, people get so
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: pissed that we're friends, wow, because they're like, how do
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: you like someone that hunts? I'm like, cause that's my guy.
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: I love him. I don't care if he hunts. I
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: don't care who he votes for. I don't care what
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: he eats, Like, that's my dog. Like you guys, he
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: gave me a bow. It was so cool. We shot
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: it at my studio. It was so he's so cool
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: and I think likewise, probably a bunch of people are like,
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: why are you homies with a vegan Cam? Whatever?
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: Whatever?
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: Whatever? People think, you know, like we I love Cam.
- 1:58:05Speaker 2: I think there's way more accepting people on the other
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: side than the vegan side. The vegan side is very hardcore.
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: Those people get very adamant about like not being around
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: other people that don't share their.
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: Values, or I don't care what anyone does. That's good,
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: you know, I love everyone the same. I don't care
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: what president you vote for. I don't care if you're gay, straight,
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: I don't I don't care about anything, you know. I
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: just judge people if they're a good person.
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: You know, I agree, and that's how we all should be.
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: But yeah, I met I met Cam. I showed up
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: to actually showed up to Tom and Bert's. Like five
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: K was the first time I ever ran. And I
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: just showed up. My my Homietoby invited me, and I said, fuck,
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: I'll go run a five k whatever. I've never ran
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: a five k. I always run by myself just because
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: I like running. And I show up there and uh,
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: right when I get to the starting line, Cam greets me,
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: and I don't know who he is. He's like, what
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: are you gonna pay today. What's your number? And I'm like,
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: fuck if I know. And he's like, what about you?
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: And he gave me some number and he's like, what
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: are you gonna do? I said, I'm going to try
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: to keep up, and I just ran my ass off
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: like I had, just like tried to keep up with
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: Cam and then and then we just stayed friends after that.
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: Oh that's awesome.
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: And I did pretty pretty good in that five K
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: actually did way better than I thought I would have.
- 1:59:23Speaker 2: You know, that's awesome. That's awesome.
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: And then we became friends and he's.
- 1:59:27Speaker 2: One of my best friends. Yeah, I love him to death.
- 1:59:30Speaker 2: So what I was getting at was that he was
- 1:59:33Speaker 2: taking ibuprofen. He was taking eight hundred milligrams a day,
- 1:59:37Speaker 2: and I didn't know he was taking that much. And
- 1:59:39Speaker 2: I was talking to him on the phone once and
- 1:59:41Speaker 2: he was telling me, yeah, I take eight hundred milligrams day.
- 1:59:43Speaker 2: I was like, whoa wait a minute, how much I go?
- 1:59:46Speaker 2: You do that every day? And I go, why, I'm
- 1:59:49Speaker 2: in pain. I'm in pain all the time, and I
- 1:59:50Speaker 2: want to keep running. And so then I sent him
- 1:59:53Speaker 2: some information that Ronda Patrick, doctor Ronda Patrick put out
- 1:59:57Speaker 2: about the problem with ibuprofen, the problem with taking large
- 2:00:01Speaker 2: doses of it on a regular basis, and what it
- 2:00:03Speaker 2: does to your gut biome. So he stopped taking it.
- 2:00:07Speaker 2: He said, well, fuck, I don't want to ruin my body.
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: Let me just stop taking it. The pain that he
- 2:00:12Speaker 2: was experiencing went away after he stopped taking eight hundred
- 2:00:17Speaker 2: milligrams of ibuprofen a day, and he realized that the
- 2:00:20Speaker 2: pain that he was experienced was accentuated by the fact
- 2:00:23Speaker 2: that he was causing inflammation in his body by taking
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: anti inflammatories that were destroying his gut biome. So he's
- 2:00:30Speaker 2: taking exactly exactly, so he's taking all this eight hundred
- 2:00:35Speaker 2: milligrams of ibuprofen every day. It's torching his gut biome.
- 2:00:38Speaker 2: That's causing this cascade of inflammatory responses in his body,
- 2:00:43Speaker 2: and he's in pain all the time. He gets off
- 2:00:45Speaker 2: of the ibuprofen, the pain goes away. Not wild, yeah,
- 2:00:50Speaker 2: but you get brainwashed and it's thinking, I need all
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: these things. Meanwhile, tramaeric and curcumin, and there's a bunch
- 2:00:57Speaker 2: of different anti inflammatories that don't cause any sort of
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: gut disturbance and they're much better for you. And healthy
- 2:01:04Speaker 2: and you can you know, get it from food.
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: Yeah, all the natural stuff. And then I feel like
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: contrast therapy is so helpful too, you know, like doing
- 2:01:12Speaker 1: sauna cold plunch, Sauna cold plunch. Oh yeah, anytime I'm injured,
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: that's that's what I go to.
- 2:01:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: I hit up Cam actually one time, and I was like, Cam,
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: I just did a half marathon. I'm about to do
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: another one. What do you suggest? He's like, try get
- 2:01:26Speaker 1: yourself an milk, just like I was like, I can't
- 2:01:30Speaker 1: remember who you're talking to, you know, So for.
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: You is the vegan thing? Just all animals. It's an
- 2:01:35Speaker 2: animal love thing.
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: Uh nah, I wasn't even it is. It is that
- 2:01:41Speaker 1: like I am kind of under the the thought process
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: of if I love one, if I have a dog
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: and I love a dog, I love I kind of
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: love all animals, right, Like I love all animals the same.
- 2:01:52Speaker 1: I'm not like I'm gonna eat that one. I'm gonna
- 2:01:55Speaker 1: shoot that one. But I love my dog. It's a
- 2:01:57Speaker 1: little contradicting to me, you know. But uh, but I
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: didn't even know any of these things at a young age.
- 2:02:04Speaker 2: I remember.
- 2:02:06Speaker 1: Food would be put in front of me and there
- 2:02:08Speaker 1: would be ham whatever, and I would just naturally put
- 2:02:11Speaker 1: the hand in my ham in my pocket and eat
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: like the mac and cheese or whatever else, the spinach.
- 2:02:16Speaker 1: And because my dad had this rule, He's like, you
- 2:02:18Speaker 1: eat everything, you don't get up from the fucking table
- 2:02:20Speaker 1: straight up. I don't care if you're there for three hours.
- 2:02:23Speaker 1: That's what it was. Because your mom spent time making
- 2:02:25Speaker 1: the food. You got to eat the food or you
- 2:02:26Speaker 1: don't leave the table. So I'd pocket it and then
- 2:02:29Speaker 1: my mom my mom would find it when she'd go
- 2:02:32Speaker 1: wash clothes. So it started like that, and then next was, oh,
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: ham is actually this hot dog? Is actually this hamburger
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: is this? And I'm like, whoa, I just thought hamburger
- 2:02:43Speaker 1: was a hamburger. I didn't really really know cow me
- 2:02:46Speaker 1: yeah yeah, So I just naturally didn't lie. I was
- 2:02:49Speaker 1: already like not liking the taste or the texture, right,
- 2:02:52Speaker 1: So I was like, okay, whatever, and so vegetarian from
- 2:02:55Speaker 1: the time I was a kid, all the way up
- 2:02:57Speaker 1: until my accident, and then after my accident vegan. So
- 2:03:02Speaker 1: it wasn't really about animals. It was just at that
- 2:03:05Speaker 1: time it was like I just I wasn't drawn to
- 2:03:08Speaker 1: eat that stuff. That's not what I was into eggs.
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: I loved bean and cheese burritos. I grew up on
- 2:03:14Speaker 1: bean and cheese burritos from just from where I grew up,
- 2:03:17Speaker 1: you know, hot sauce. Yeah, you can't beat it. So
- 2:03:22Speaker 1: that's kind of like what I.
- 2:03:23Speaker 2: Was raised is cheese and bean and cheese burritos.
- 2:03:25Speaker 1: Yeah. So I wasn't vegan until twenty years ago. I
- 2:03:28Speaker 1: would have dairy.
- 2:03:29Speaker 2: But do you ever eat eggs? Never? No, you know,
- 2:03:32Speaker 2: if you have your own chickens, it's a pretty karma
- 2:03:35Speaker 2: free food. It's like I have chickens. I have nineteen
- 2:03:39Speaker 2: chickens and their pets. So they wander around the yard
- 2:03:43Speaker 2: have a good time, like hey ladies, Like there's they
- 2:03:45Speaker 2: have no cruelty, no one's doing anything bad to them.
- 2:03:49Speaker 2: They go in their nest boxes and they lay eggs
- 2:03:51Speaker 2: and then you just gather the eggs. The eggs will
- 2:03:53Speaker 2: never be a chicken because they're not fertilized. It's just food.
- 2:03:58Speaker 2: It's just free food. I mean, it's not free. You
- 2:04:00Speaker 2: pay for chicken food and you take care of them
- 2:04:02Speaker 2: and all that stuff. But I mean in terms of
- 2:04:04Speaker 2: like it's karma free. No one's getting hurt. Like literally,
- 2:04:08Speaker 2: no one is getting hurt. The chickens will lay an
- 2:04:10Speaker 2: egg almost every day. Yeah, and so we have like
- 2:04:13Speaker 2: baskets of eggs in my house.
- 2:04:14Speaker 1: We always have eggs, I think for whatever, for whatever reason,
- 2:04:18Speaker 1: now it's like anything and there's this amazing it's actually
- 2:04:23Speaker 1: I think they market it as a protein, a vegan protein,
- 2:04:27Speaker 1: but you make egg whites out of it, and it's
- 2:04:29Speaker 1: phenomenal and it has the same amount of protein as
- 2:04:33Speaker 1: egg whites do.
- 2:04:34Speaker 2: Does it have the same amino acid profile?
- 2:04:36Speaker 1: I think so maybe I see if it comes up
- 2:04:39Speaker 1: what is it called? Um, I have it in my
- 2:04:43Speaker 1: phone somewhere, but I don't have my phone.
- 2:04:45Speaker 2: Should you probably find it?
- 2:04:46Speaker 1: Yeah. So it's like it's like and it's not just
- 2:04:48Speaker 1: egg or one of the basic ones. It's one that
- 2:04:51Speaker 1: my daughter had sent me and it's bananas. You make
- 2:04:55Speaker 1: you make omelets out of it, and it's just incredible
- 2:04:58Speaker 1: and you get tons of protein. But I think after
- 2:05:01Speaker 1: I after I eat beef jerky in a hospital for
- 2:05:04Speaker 1: six months, I was like, peace, I'm gonna be vegan.
- 2:05:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna be vegan watch this, and then I stopped,
- 2:05:10Speaker 1: like I stopped kind of having anything that came from
- 2:05:13Speaker 1: animals period, just to see what it would be like.
- 2:05:16Speaker 1: Like I don't have honey even, Yeah, no honey, And
- 2:05:22Speaker 1: I just feel fucking good like I have tons of energy.
- 2:05:26Speaker 1: I can, I have no lack of energy. I you know,
- 2:05:31Speaker 1: I feel great. I feel like I operate like I
- 2:05:35Speaker 1: have I don't know, just feel the best I've ever
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: felt like. Call I am right now, you know.
- 2:05:39Speaker 2: Well, I mean I think everyone's different. Yeah, And that's
- 2:05:41Speaker 2: one of the cool things about having a bunch of
- 2:05:43Speaker 2: different diets out there's a bunch of different options for
- 2:05:45Speaker 2: people to try and find whatever works for you.
- 2:05:48Speaker 1: Yeah, even within my family, like my one daughter is vegetarian,
- 2:05:52Speaker 1: my son eats meat, my wife eats meat, my youngest
- 2:05:55Speaker 1: son has meat. Sometimes it's like whatever, whatever everyone decides
- 2:06:00Speaker 1: is what I'm cool with, you know, and that's just
- 2:06:02Speaker 1: what works for me.
- 2:06:03Speaker 2: That's a great attitude. But I think you also have
- 2:06:05Speaker 2: it dialed in, like you have whatever diet you're on
- 2:06:08Speaker 2: dialed in where you know you're getting the right amount
- 2:06:10Speaker 2: of protein. And there's a there's quite a few different
- 2:06:13Speaker 2: plant sources of protein that have a complete amino acid profile.
- 2:06:18Speaker 1: Yeah, those perfect aminos that Gary Abreca, Yeah, those are
- 2:06:23Speaker 1: a game changer. You take five in the morning, five
- 2:06:26Speaker 1: at night game changer.
- 2:06:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but it was.
- 2:06:29Speaker 1: It was. I won't say it's like not hard to
- 2:06:32Speaker 1: dial it in. It is difficult to dial it in.
- 2:06:35Speaker 1: It is. You got to navigate, just like anything else, right, Right.
- 2:06:39Speaker 2: There's too many people that they go vegan, but then
- 2:06:41Speaker 2: they just eat like vegan pizza and they don't know.
- 2:06:45Speaker 2: Crossroads your restaurant. I still have never been, but everybody
- 2:06:48Speaker 2: that I know that went says it's fucking phenomenal. Like
- 2:06:50Speaker 2: even Dana who does not like Dana White, who does
- 2:06:53Speaker 2: not like vegan food, He's like, dude, it's fucking incredible.
- 2:06:56Speaker 2: He goes it's incredible.
- 2:06:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I think, I think when you probably don't know
- 2:07:00Speaker 1: what to expect right when you go to a plant
- 2:07:02Speaker 1: based restaurant, right, but Tall Ronan, the chef from Crossroads,
- 2:07:07Speaker 1: is just he's incredible and and uh the food, it's
- 2:07:10Speaker 1: an afterthought that you ate something that was vegan. It's
- 2:07:13Speaker 1: not even on the menu that it's plant based.
- 2:07:15Speaker 2: That's awesome. There's a place in the valley that I
- 2:07:17Speaker 2: used to go to all the time. God, I can't
- 2:07:19Speaker 2: remember the name of it now. Escaping me was it
- 2:07:21Speaker 2: Folly of your Heart? Yes, I go every day. Yes,
- 2:07:25Speaker 2: that's so good. That place is great. Yeah, that's another
- 2:07:27Speaker 2: completely plant based restaurant. We used to go there all
- 2:07:30Speaker 2: the time. Yeah, lived in l A. Yeah, Fault your
- 2:07:33Speaker 2: Heart was pretty close.
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: Yeah they have they have a little cafe where you
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: can eat an grocery shore supplements and stuff.
- 2:07:40Speaker 2: It's yeah, it's great. They're nut burger very good. Yeah,
- 2:07:44Speaker 2: it's like really, I would crave it.
- 2:07:46Speaker 1: Yeah, that's cool. Like I love I love just everyone
- 2:07:50Speaker 1: being open minded and you know what I mean.
- 2:07:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'll try anything. Yeah. For me personally, what
- 2:07:57Speaker 2: I've tried. I eat more meat than anything I meet,
- 2:08:00Speaker 2: mostly meat, mostly wild game play a lot of rabbis
- 2:08:04Speaker 2: and steak, and that just makes me feel the best.
- 2:08:06Speaker 2: You know. I don't love animal cruelty. I don't like it.
- 2:08:10Speaker 2: I don't think it's good in any way, shape or form.
- 2:08:13Speaker 2: But I also realize that animals eat animals, life eats life. Yeah,
- 2:08:16Speaker 2: this is just And the thing about hunting is I
- 2:08:22Speaker 2: am in complete contact with where my food's coming from.
- 2:08:26Speaker 2: I know the source of it. I'm there when the
- 2:08:28Speaker 2: animal dies, I'm there. I do it. I participate in
- 2:08:32Speaker 2: the whole thing. I carry it out of the woods,
- 2:08:35Speaker 2: you know, I cut it up, bring it to a
- 2:08:38Speaker 2: butcher shop and have it, you know, package and mistakes.
- 2:08:41Speaker 1: I'm thinking of cam right now because when he was
- 2:08:43Speaker 1: in my neighborhood, you know, we have deer in Calabasas,
- 2:08:46Speaker 1: he was eyeballing him. He was eyeballing him. I'm like,
- 2:08:49Speaker 1: don't even fucking think about it.
- 2:08:52Speaker 2: Of course he was.
- 2:08:53Speaker 1: Yeah, he was like, oh look at that.
- 2:08:54Speaker 2: Look at that.
- 2:08:56Speaker 1: I'm looking at him like, oh, look at the cool
- 2:08:58Speaker 1: family of deer. He's like, oh shit, that's food.
- 2:09:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's food. So funny, well, especially him.
- 2:09:04Speaker 1: But yeah, I totally, like I said, I get it.
- 2:09:07Speaker 2: You know, it's cool that you're so open minded about
- 2:09:10Speaker 2: that that you do and you're not judgmental. It's I
- 2:09:14Speaker 2: think that's a great attitude to have that more people
- 2:09:16Speaker 2: should have adopt with everything with political ideologies, religion, whatever
- 2:09:20Speaker 2: it is. Yeah, because don't fuck with me. I won't
- 2:09:23Speaker 2: fuck with you. I'd like to hear your opinions on
- 2:09:25Speaker 2: things because i'd like to know where people where they
- 2:09:28Speaker 2: form their thoughts from. What's your perspective?
- 2:09:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hate when anyone from either side
- 2:09:36Speaker 1: of things are so aggressive that we're like, you just
- 2:09:39Speaker 1: bum everybody out, you.
- 2:09:41Speaker 2: Know they do. And I also think that a lot
- 2:09:43Speaker 2: of times it's not coming from a healthy place to
- 2:09:45Speaker 2: begin with. I think a lot of people find a
- 2:09:48Speaker 2: thing that they can use as an excuse to be
- 2:09:51Speaker 2: an asshole, and whether that thing is their political beliefs,
- 2:09:56Speaker 2: or their religion or whatever their social idea, whatever it is,
- 2:10:01Speaker 2: they find a thing that they can call you out
- 2:10:04Speaker 2: because you fuck you, you're the fucking's man, Fuck you man.
- 2:10:08Speaker 2: And it's just what's really going on is they're just
- 2:10:11Speaker 2: looking for a reason to be an asshole, and they're
- 2:10:15Speaker 2: not a balanced person or a happy, healthy person. It's
- 2:10:18Speaker 2: one thing if someone is confronting you personally and yelling
- 2:10:22Speaker 2: at you and you're yelling back at them and you're
- 2:10:25Speaker 2: in an argument. But if you're starting that initiating that
- 2:10:29Speaker 2: because someone doesn't does someone disagrees with you, or doesn't
- 2:10:33Speaker 2: see things the way they're doing, first of all, you're
- 2:10:35Speaker 2: a shitty communicator. Until you're probably a shitty person because
- 2:10:38Speaker 2: that's why you're behaving the way you're behaving, and you're
- 2:10:40Speaker 2: using this point whatever it is, whether it's being a
- 2:10:44Speaker 2: vegan or being a Republican or being a Democrat, or
- 2:10:46Speaker 2: being in is a Muslim or being a Christian, or
- 2:10:49Speaker 2: whatever the fuck it is that you've decided is more
- 2:10:52Speaker 2: important than being civil and kind and courteous. You're what
- 2:10:57Speaker 2: you really are is just a shitty version of a person.
- 2:11:00Speaker 2: Whether you realize it or not. You probably don't, probably
- 2:11:02Speaker 2: don't even probably think you're justified and that's why you're
- 2:11:04Speaker 2: doing it, and you probably think I'm doing the right thing.
- 2:11:06Speaker 2: And everyone's like, I love it that you have no chill.
- 2:11:09Speaker 2: He's got no chill, Like, no, No, he's a cunt.
- 2:11:12Speaker 2: This guy's a cunt, and he's a miserable and sufferable
- 2:11:15Speaker 2: person to be around, regardless of what his belief system
- 2:11:17Speaker 2: is versus the other person's belief system. And if he
- 2:11:20Speaker 2: had a perspective that was I don't know why you
- 2:11:24Speaker 2: think the way you think, but I think differently. Let's
- 2:11:26Speaker 2: have a conversation. You might find common ground, yeah, and
- 2:11:29Speaker 2: you might be able to realize, like, oh, you can
- 2:11:32Speaker 2: have friends that don't think the way you think. I
- 2:11:35Speaker 2: have friends that are Muslims, I have friends that are atheists,
- 2:11:38Speaker 2: all I have gay friends. I have a ton of
- 2:11:41Speaker 2: friends that are completely different than me. And that's fine,
- 2:11:44Speaker 2: there's nothing wrong with that. I love them. It's great,
- 2:11:47Speaker 2: you don't. Everyone doesn't have to be you. Everyone doesn't
- 2:11:50Speaker 2: have to be the same as you, nor do they
- 2:11:51Speaker 2: have to agree with you. Yeah, but there's too many
- 2:11:54Speaker 2: people that what they're looking for is some reason why
- 2:11:57Speaker 2: they're right and some reason to be an asshole to
- 2:12:00Speaker 2: other people that don't think the same way they think,
- 2:12:03Speaker 2: and they think that they're justified by it, and I
- 2:12:05Speaker 2: think there it's a real problem. It's also a real
- 2:12:08Speaker 2: problem with social media because those people, their voices get
- 2:12:10Speaker 2: amplified and people piloting yeah, you go boy or you
- 2:12:14Speaker 2: go girl.
- 2:12:14Speaker 1: And I feel like anyone who can like, look at
- 2:12:18Speaker 1: I mean social media is it's corny to begin with, right,
- 2:12:20Speaker 1: but you're gonna go on Instagram and then you're gonna
- 2:12:22Speaker 1: say something extreme or fucked up to someone. It's like
- 2:12:26Speaker 1: you're so you're so lame, like that you actually took
- 2:12:30Speaker 1: the time to think about writing something bad, then wrote
- 2:12:34Speaker 1: it then press send, like you're fucked up, you know
- 2:12:37Speaker 1: what I mean? Like straight up, like anyone that's gonna
- 2:12:39Speaker 1: say or spew negativity, I'm like, yep, yeah, I just
- 2:12:43Speaker 1: it's just a week place for it.
- 2:12:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just weakness. And I guarantee you you're not
- 2:12:47Speaker 2: doing the maximum amount you should be doing with your
- 2:12:50Speaker 2: life with whatever you're pursuing. You're you're not.
- 2:12:53Speaker 1: They're lacking, soubptimized.
- 2:12:55Speaker 2: Yeah, sure, you know, like that's why they choose the
- 2:12:58Speaker 2: time to just lash out at people or mischaracterize people,
- 2:13:02Speaker 2: or have the least charitable take on people. It's usually
- 2:13:07Speaker 2: they're lacking. They're usually at least somewhat mediocre. There's always
- 2:13:10Speaker 2: usually some flaw in their game and what they're doing
- 2:13:14Speaker 2: and then lashing out at other people, which is fine,
- 2:13:17Speaker 2: but it's also like other people can learn from that too, Like, God,
- 2:13:20Speaker 2: it seems like a cunt, and then don't be a cunt,
- 2:13:22Speaker 2: you know, realize that and go, oh okay, I kind
- 2:13:26Speaker 2: of see that myself. Sometimes maybe we should a little
- 2:13:29Speaker 2: self correction.
- 2:13:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you're like, I don't ever want to be like that, exactly.
- 2:13:33Speaker 2: It's great exactly or the opposite, when someone's like has
- 2:13:38Speaker 2: like a really objective, charitable take on someone, like, hey man,
- 2:13:42Speaker 2: maybe he thinks this way, and you know, maybe the
- 2:13:45Speaker 2: right way to approach it is to approach someone civilly.
- 2:13:49Speaker 2: And we can find common ground. Like some you read
- 2:13:51Speaker 2: someone saying something like that, and you go, oh, I
- 2:13:54Speaker 2: want to be more like that guy. Like that guy,
- 2:13:56Speaker 2: like I like the way that guy thinks. Like that
- 2:13:58Speaker 2: that's inspiring to me, Like that to me, like that's
- 2:14:00Speaker 2: probably a cool person to have a conversation with. They're
- 2:14:03Speaker 2: not going to be They're not going to use it
- 2:14:05Speaker 2: as an excuse to be aggressive, an excuse to be
- 2:14:08Speaker 2: shitty and insulting and mean, because you're not changing anybody's
- 2:14:11Speaker 2: opinion when you do that, you're just not you know,
- 2:14:14Speaker 2: and what will you get the peanut gallery to pile in? Great,
- 2:14:18Speaker 2: So you've got team Cunt, You've got a little cunt
- 2:14:21Speaker 2: farm behind you, and you're all attacking all these other people.
- 2:14:24Speaker 2: And you think, somehow know that you're justified because there's
- 2:14:26Speaker 2: some other flawed people that agree with you, that you're
- 2:14:30Speaker 2: allowed to be shitty to people because they don't think
- 2:14:32Speaker 2: the way you think, or because they only eat plants,
- 2:14:35Speaker 2: or because they worship this god or come.
- 2:14:38Speaker 1: On, yeah, the world, Like David Goggins has it figured
- 2:14:41Speaker 1: out how he like how he just listens to all
- 2:14:43Speaker 1: his haters or whatever, and he like runs or exercises
- 2:14:46Speaker 1: like that's the that's the shit, Like use it as
- 2:14:49Speaker 1: a tool, you.
- 2:14:50Speaker 2: Know, Yeah, I think you're better off not even listening
- 2:14:51Speaker 2: to the haters. He's insane every time I talk to him, Like,
- 2:14:54Speaker 2: you're so insane.
- 2:14:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, like I said, yeah, anyone that's gonna
- 2:14:59Speaker 1: say anything is so so lame right off the jump.
- 2:15:03Speaker 2: But there's a lot of lame people in this world, unfortunately,
- 2:15:05Speaker 2: because there's a lot of people that don't have a
- 2:15:07Speaker 2: you know, it's hard to be a person. It's complicated.
- 2:15:10Speaker 2: People don't have a guidebook on how to be a
- 2:15:13Speaker 2: person and be happy.
- 2:15:15Speaker 1: And I think you have to. Like I'm disciplined. Like
- 2:15:18Speaker 1: sometimes I'll read something and I'll be like you motherfucker,
- 2:15:20Speaker 1: like and I'm like, oh no, I can't do I
- 2:15:23Speaker 1: can't do what they do, right, Like I can't. I can't.
- 2:15:27Speaker 2: Especially you're Travis Barker, you're a famous guy. Like if
- 2:15:31Speaker 2: you do what they do, it's a different thing. Like
- 2:15:33Speaker 2: if you go back at them, it's that is one
- 2:15:35Speaker 2: of the lamest things when you see celebrities never going
- 2:15:39Speaker 2: at like fans in the comments like what are you
- 2:15:44Speaker 2: take your phone away? Take his phone away? Who's letting
- 2:15:48Speaker 2: We don't want to see you do that.
- 2:15:49Speaker 1: The people who love your music or no whatever.
- 2:15:52Speaker 2: Oh no, no, no, no, no. How many people have
- 2:15:57Speaker 2: like ruined other people's opinions of them because they're doing
- 2:16:00Speaker 2: something like that or going on some lame fucking rant
- 2:16:03Speaker 2: against someone because of the way they voted or the
- 2:16:06Speaker 2: way they view this or the way they you know whatever.
- 2:16:09Speaker 2: It is.
- 2:16:10Speaker 1: Luckily like the hate the hate, like I get the
- 2:16:13Speaker 1: weird I get the weirdest hate. It's not even really hate,
- 2:16:16Speaker 1: but it's just something like they know they're like throwing
- 2:16:18Speaker 1: darts from across the room at me. Is like, oh, bro,
- 2:16:21Speaker 1: he's like a Kardashian now, or he married a Kardashian.
- 2:16:25Speaker 1: I'm like, motherfucker, that's the most punk thing I could
- 2:16:28Speaker 1: do is marry a Kardashian and just say fuck you,
- 2:16:30Speaker 1: you know what I mean. It's about like the like
- 2:16:33Speaker 1: that even shows you I clearly don't give a fuck
- 2:16:36Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like, and my my wife
- 2:16:39Speaker 1: isn't like uh, I can't label her like that. She's
- 2:16:42Speaker 1: my wife. She's my soulmate, right. I love her to death.
- 2:16:46Speaker 1: But to think like, have you seen me change? Well,
- 2:16:50Speaker 1: have you seen me like dressed?
- 2:16:52Speaker 2: Dog?
- 2:16:53Speaker 1: I dress so different obviously than my wife or her family.
- 2:16:56Speaker 1: Like I'm continued to be my own person's I'd look
- 2:17:00Speaker 1: the same, I've wore the same Dicky's pants, the same
- 2:17:03Speaker 1: band shoes, had the same tattoos that stopped me from
- 2:17:06Speaker 1: getting a real job since I was sixteen years old.
- 2:17:09Speaker 1: Fuck you, you know what I mean, straight up fuck you?
- 2:17:12Speaker 1: And uh And that's why I mean. Punk rock is
- 2:17:15Speaker 1: not about music either. It's about like you don't you
- 2:17:17Speaker 1: don't care what anyone thinks, right, as long as you're
- 2:17:20Speaker 1: going you're doing. Yeah, you are who you are and
- 2:17:22Speaker 1: you're not hurting anybody. That that's punk rock.
- 2:17:25Speaker 2: I know a lot of people thought it was cool
- 2:17:27Speaker 2: that you guys got together, Like look at those two
- 2:17:29Speaker 2: people from totally different worlds that love each other. That's cool.
- 2:17:32Speaker 1: Oh, it's the best, it's the best. It's just only
- 2:17:35Speaker 1: a hater would would think that other way though, right, you.
- 2:17:38Speaker 2: Know, but if you started getting but it's the one
- 2:17:40Speaker 2: that you're off off and you started wearing clothes.
- 2:17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I started dressing like a lame and I started yeah,
- 2:17:46Speaker 1: of course, like dude, come for me, you know, right,
- 2:17:49Speaker 1: please please? Uh, but yeah, that's like that's one that's
- 2:17:53Speaker 1: always like funny to me.
- 2:17:54Speaker 2: I'm like, well, there's the problem with like, you know,
- 2:17:56Speaker 2: whenever there's anything that's happening publicly, you're living your life publicly,
- 2:18:00Speaker 2: there's always gonna be hate.
- 2:18:02Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and Wayne said it. Lil Wayne said it
- 2:18:04Speaker 1: a long time ago. I remember he told me. He's like,
- 2:18:06Speaker 1: dog you you you haven't made it until you have haters.
- 2:18:11Speaker 1: You know you're successful the minute motherfuckers start hating on you.
- 2:18:15Speaker 2: Have you ever seen Kat Williams sit on haters? Oh?
- 2:18:18Speaker 2: Pull that up?
- 2:18:19Speaker 1: Oh I bet, I bet it's great.
- 2:18:22Speaker 2: He's kind of fantastic bit on haters about people complaining
- 2:18:26Speaker 2: about haters. It's the same kind of thing. Have you
- 2:18:32Speaker 2: found it anywhere? You can't say Kat Williams on haters,
- 2:18:39Speaker 2: but I guess it does say haters. Hold on. Yeah,
- 2:18:42Speaker 2: he's gotta I think the bits. Okay, give me some volume.
- 2:18:47Speaker 5: You gotta get your motherfucker hustle. Understand, niggas is gonna
- 2:18:49Speaker 5: hate you regardless. Get that out of your head, that
- 2:18:52Speaker 5: fantasy world where niggas ain't hating on you. You gotta be grateful.
- 2:18:56Speaker 5: You need haters. What the fuck is you complaining about?
- 2:18:58Speaker 5: What the fuck do you think I hater's job is
- 2:19:01Speaker 5: to fucking hate, So let them motherfuckers do they goddamn job.
- 2:19:05Speaker 5: What the fuck if you complaining about ladies? If you
- 2:19:08Speaker 5: got fourteen women hating on you, you need to figure out
- 2:19:10Speaker 5: how to fuck to get the sixteen before the summer
- 2:19:13Speaker 5: get hit?
- 2:19:14Speaker 2: The fuck is you mad about?
- 2:19:18Speaker 1: Amen?
- 2:19:19Speaker 5: If you got twenty haters, you need forty of them motherfuckers?
- 2:19:21Speaker 5: What is you complaining about? If there's any haters in
- 2:19:24Speaker 5: here right now that don't have nobody that hate, don't
- 2:19:26Speaker 5: feel free to hate on me. Sit back there and
- 2:19:28Speaker 5: say my hair ain luxurious when you know it is pitch.
- 2:19:34Speaker 1: That's so good, so true, so true.
- 2:19:37Speaker 2: It comes with the territory. Yeah, this is the job
- 2:19:41Speaker 2: we chose, This is the life we chose. You're gonna
- 2:19:43Speaker 2: get haters, totally, but it's your you know, it's your
- 2:19:48Speaker 2: obligation to manage the waters. You You don't have to
- 2:19:52Speaker 2: dive in and fucking never swing in their own shit
- 2:19:56Speaker 2: and waddle around with them like pigs.
- 2:19:59Speaker 1: Totally, it's not necessary, but it's never would I you know.
- 2:20:05Speaker 2: No, A lot of people do, unfortunately. Just but it's
- 2:20:09Speaker 2: also this is a new thing, like this new thing
- 2:20:12Speaker 2: where people have direct access to everybody like that on
- 2:20:15Speaker 2: the line, if you know, people choose to be on
- 2:20:17Speaker 2: social media, like you have direct access to all kinds
- 2:20:20Speaker 2: of people, and they're going to read your comments and
- 2:20:22Speaker 2: people know that, yeah, if you're a person who reads comments,
- 2:20:25Speaker 2: and so they go and attack you. And it's a
- 2:20:27Speaker 2: weird world that a lot of famous people don't know
- 2:20:29Speaker 2: how to navigate, and a lot of people they get
- 2:20:31Speaker 2: like severe anxiety because they do read that shit and
- 2:20:35Speaker 2: then they're like hold up their home by themselves, staring
- 2:20:37Speaker 2: at their phone. You're in a fucking giant mansion, living
- 2:20:40Speaker 2: like a ball, or you got a Ferrari. Meanwhile, you're
- 2:20:42Speaker 2: in hell.
- 2:20:43Speaker 1: Like I said, yeah, if you're not hurting anybody, and
- 2:20:45Speaker 1: it's like you know what I mean, like life, life's good.
- 2:20:49Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it also you'll feel better if you're not
- 2:20:52Speaker 2: doing that totally.
- 2:20:54Speaker 1: Or they say like if you do read it and
- 2:20:56Speaker 1: you find any truth in it, like it's your chance
- 2:20:59Speaker 1: to fix it. It's your chance to whatever or or
- 2:21:02Speaker 1: use it as like motivation, you know.
- 2:21:04Speaker 2: Like God does.
- 2:21:05Speaker 1: Yeah, even if the ship they're they're spewing is so
- 2:21:08Speaker 1: false and fairy tale, it's like still, you know what
- 2:21:11Speaker 1: I mean, go go lift, or go box, or go
- 2:21:16Speaker 1: play drums or go do whatever you do, you know,
- 2:21:19Speaker 1: use those that always feels good because yeah, none of it,
- 2:21:21Speaker 1: none of it really like sits with you, you know.
- 2:21:25Speaker 2: And I understand haters too. I've always said this that
- 2:21:28Speaker 2: if I was a fifteen year old kid and somebody
- 2:21:30Speaker 2: gave me a Twitter account, I could get a hold
- 2:21:32Speaker 2: of someone like me and talk shit to him. I
- 2:21:35Speaker 2: would oh, yeah, fuck yeah as a kid, like I
- 2:21:39Speaker 2: don't even know it would be like because we didn't
- 2:21:40Speaker 2: have it.
- 2:21:41Speaker 1: But I also know, like from where uh you know,
- 2:21:44Speaker 1: punk rock was has always been very finicky, very very sensitive, right,
- 2:21:50Speaker 1: you know, the band gets popular, everyone's like, I fucking
- 2:21:53Speaker 1: hate them, they're on the radio. Fuck that band. Yeah,
- 2:21:56Speaker 1: bands now they can they can eat, they can fucking
- 2:21:59Speaker 1: you know what I mean, he ran fucked them.
- 2:22:01Speaker 2: You know.
- 2:22:01Speaker 1: It's like that, you know, skateboarding, which I like changed
- 2:22:05Speaker 1: my life and raise me. Skateboarding is also they're very strict,
- 2:22:09Speaker 1: you know about about who can call themselves a skater
- 2:22:13Speaker 1: or you know, there's just all the all these things.
- 2:22:16Speaker 1: There's like when when all these things should just be celebrated,
- 2:22:20Speaker 1: Like skateboarding is fucking cool. It's like some of the
- 2:22:23Speaker 1: coolest people in the world, you know, skateboard and and
- 2:22:27Speaker 1: skateboarding's taught most of the world like how to dress
- 2:22:30Speaker 1: properly and serious, like I mean, a lot of rappers
- 2:22:35Speaker 1: basically nowadays just dressed like skateboarders. Skateboarders like set it
- 2:22:39Speaker 1: off like they had the best taste from the jump.
- 2:22:42Speaker 2: How do you think that happened? Well, how did skateboarders
- 2:22:44Speaker 2: develop such a great sense of style in your opinion,
- 2:22:49Speaker 2: I don't, I don't know.
- 2:22:50Speaker 1: It's just it's just one of those things, like even
- 2:22:53Speaker 1: from back in the day, like.
- 2:22:54Speaker 2: Why that particular activity would have like a whole like
- 2:22:57Speaker 2: style associated with it.
- 2:22:59Speaker 1: I mean with like huge pants and like T shirts
- 2:23:03Speaker 1: and just vans, you know, skateboarding and beanies. You know.
- 2:23:08Speaker 1: That's that I don't know. But everything from the times
- 2:23:12Speaker 1: skate videos were released, they were secretly maybe they didn't
- 2:23:15Speaker 1: know about it, but they were teaching everyone what the
- 2:23:18Speaker 1: coolest music was. And at the time, music was so
- 2:23:20Speaker 1: categor gized, like you're either a punk rocker, you like country,
- 2:23:24Speaker 1: you like rap, you like that. Skate videos were everything,
- 2:23:28Speaker 1: the illest, best music of every genre. So a bunch
- 2:23:33Speaker 1: of skate kids were growing up listening to Operation Ivy
- 2:23:36Speaker 1: and loving the Far Side, you know, so it was
- 2:23:40Speaker 1: like happily confused. They just knew the best of every world.
- 2:23:45Speaker 1: It was different.
- 2:23:46Speaker 2: You know. It's just interesting that a style of clothing
- 2:23:49Speaker 2: is associated with physical activity.
- 2:23:52Speaker 1: Well then you had Lo Wayne, who learned how to
- 2:23:54Speaker 1: skateboard halfway through his career, and I feel like everyone
- 2:23:59Speaker 1: around him look to him for also style and started
- 2:24:03Speaker 1: dressing like him. Wow. So and some people don't even know.
- 2:24:08Speaker 1: I feel like punk rock and skateboarding. I mean, Playboy
- 2:24:12Speaker 1: Cardi wears punk rock clothes. His whole aesthetic is punk rock.
- 2:24:16Speaker 1: You know where did he get it from? Got it
- 2:24:20Speaker 1: from punk rock? You know, like it was born there?
- 2:24:23Speaker 1: And uh, I hate gatekeepers, right. I love what he's
- 2:24:28Speaker 1: done with it, and I love that all these new
- 2:24:31Speaker 1: groups of kids that love Cardi and love Ken Carson
- 2:24:34Speaker 1: are they're dressing like punkers. They might not even know it.
- 2:24:37Speaker 1: They just think they're dressing like, you know, their favorite rapper.
- 2:24:40Speaker 1: But it stems and it's rooted from punk rock and skateboarding.
- 2:24:43Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah, I can't think of another activity that has
- 2:24:47Speaker 2: a style associated with it like that.
- 2:24:50Speaker 1: Yeah, there really isn't like BMX people, you know, they
- 2:24:54Speaker 1: were wearing pads and stuff. I mean BMX was really cool.
- 2:24:57Speaker 1: I love BMX, but yeah, and there's like, it's not like.
- 2:25:00Speaker 2: Skatebo style that's associated with Yeah.
- 2:25:03Speaker 1: And skateboarding and punk rockwere like this.
- 2:25:05Speaker 2: Right, Well it's rebellion, right, Yeah, being an outcast. It's
- 2:25:08Speaker 2: doing something that's either frowned upon or only other people
- 2:25:12Speaker 2: that are like you understand it.
- 2:25:14Speaker 1: But it could have been, right, like skateboarding could have
- 2:25:16Speaker 1: been well, couldn't have I can't even say this, like,
- 2:25:20Speaker 1: but like it's a skateboard. It could have been athletic,
- 2:25:23Speaker 1: it could have been sporty. Yeah, it was from the
- 2:25:26Speaker 1: get go. It was raw and it was gritty and
- 2:25:28Speaker 1: it was It's also one of the hardest things as
- 2:25:32Speaker 1: far as like the amount of falls and injuries you take.
- 2:25:35Speaker 2: It.
- 2:25:35Speaker 1: Gotta be a tough motherfucker to skateboard.
- 2:25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of concussions. Yeah, a lot of guys
- 2:25:40Speaker 2: when they're doing tricks, falling their fucking head.
- 2:25:43Speaker 1: The board, hitting your shins over and over again, breaking arms,
- 2:25:46Speaker 1: breaking legs. It's Yeah, it's a gnarly sport.
- 2:25:50Speaker 2: Especially if you're doing it in these urban environments where
- 2:25:52Speaker 2: people are trying to go down railings and.
- 2:25:55Speaker 1: Yeah, street skating. It's like it's just whatever you find
- 2:25:58Speaker 1: while you're skateboarding down the street, you know. Pretty cool.
- 2:26:02Speaker 2: It is interesting that it has a style of clothing
- 2:26:05Speaker 2: and dress associated with it, yeah. Yeah, and it's that
- 2:26:12Speaker 2: it kind of mirrors like punk rock aesthetics.
- 2:26:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and both the genres are very protective, you.
- 2:26:20Speaker 2: Know, yeah, weird. It's cool, it is cool.
- 2:26:23Speaker 1: But maybe it should be protected. Maybe that's why it's
- 2:26:26Speaker 1: still so cool, you know, well.
- 2:26:29Speaker 2: For them, for the people that are protecting it, like
- 2:26:31Speaker 2: and it means something to them. It's probably their haven
- 2:26:35Speaker 2: from the standard society, the pressures of fitting in and
- 2:26:40Speaker 2: conforming that they don't want, and so like this thing
- 2:26:43Speaker 2: is like a church to them. It's like sacrifice. It's
- 2:26:46Speaker 2: like religious.
- 2:26:47Speaker 1: I mean when I was thirteen, I felt like an
- 2:26:49Speaker 1: outcast and it was skaters against jocks. Where I grew up,
- 2:26:53Speaker 1: it was like jocks and you played football or you
- 2:26:56Speaker 1: were a skateboarder, which basically you listen to punk rock music,
- 2:27:01Speaker 1: you listen to faction, you listen to d r I,
- 2:27:04Speaker 1: you listen to whatever. And we looked really different. So
- 2:27:06Speaker 1: we were we were outcasts.
- 2:27:08Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, all right, yeah, should wrap this up.
- 2:27:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it was amazing, brother.
- 2:27:15Speaker 2: Always good to see you, man, Always good to see you.
- 2:27:18Speaker 2: This documentary. When can people watch it?
- 2:27:20Speaker 1: It's out on Hulu right.
- 2:27:22Speaker 2: Now, right here, and we're looking at the.
- 2:27:27Speaker 1: Crash, and when I think about it, I have the
- 2:27:31Speaker 1: worst flashbacks.
- 2:27:32Speaker 5: I've got you on the brown over here.
- 2:27:38Speaker 6: You know, the last thing my mom said to me
- 2:27:48Speaker 6: is just play drums.
- 2:27:50Speaker 5: The drums are literally the heartbeat of the musical body.
- 2:27:53Speaker 2: A lot of people came just to watch him. You
- 2:27:56Speaker 2: just had this.
- 2:27:56Speaker 1: Oh you're gonna get picked up by a band and
- 2:27:59Speaker 1: you will be a star attraction.
- 2:28:01Speaker 2: You better get yourself a job, boy, And he said, no, Dad.
- 2:28:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna go play in a punk rock band and
- 2:28:06Speaker 1: I won't have a plan.
- 2:28:07Speaker 6: B Rob, Mark and Tom come up to me and
- 2:28:13Speaker 6: he said.
- 2:28:13Speaker 1: Our drummer just left. Would you consider playing? The show
- 2:28:16Speaker 1: starts in an hour.
- 2:28:21Speaker 2: Effortless. Thinks we're just exploding. That was quite a wild ride.
- 2:28:26Speaker 1: I was torn with Blink NonStop. I was taking so
- 2:28:29Speaker 1: many pills that I had a security guard whose only
- 2:28:31Speaker 1: job was to watch me sleep, make sure I was breathing.
- 2:28:35Speaker 1: It was all a blur, and then came the crash,
- 2:28:43Speaker 1: just fire and chaos everywhere. Sixty five percent of my
- 2:28:47Speaker 1: body was bent twenty seven surgeries.
- 2:28:51Speaker 2: Falling from the sky like Acorus. Probably do some to
- 2:28:54Speaker 2: your head.
- 2:28:56Speaker 6: I walk in the room and I don't cry.
- 2:28:58Speaker 2: Ever he cried.
- 2:29:00Speaker 1: Bro Chaye and Chris were like brothers to me. And
- 2:29:04Speaker 1: then I am passing away a year later? Why am
- 2:29:09Speaker 1: I here and everyone else isn't how to ask myself
- 2:29:13Speaker 1: who I was going to be after this accident.
- 2:29:17Speaker 2: I could never truly understand what he went through.
- 2:29:22Speaker 1: I had this burning desire to become the greatest person
- 2:29:25Speaker 1: and father. I could be.
- 2:29:29Speaker 6: Changed to the whole family, and I feel like brought
- 2:29:31Speaker 6: us closer together.
- 2:29:33Speaker 1: We loved him, trying to cook for us, going on
- 2:29:36Speaker 1: bike rides more knowing how close I got to not
- 2:29:39Speaker 1: being here. My appreciation for life is something I can't
- 2:29:42Speaker 1: even explain.
- 2:29:43Speaker 2: Why every hit it's him communicating his story to the world. Dude,
- 2:29:52Speaker 2: he has got a crazy story. One more Wow, looks awesome.
- 2:30:02Speaker 2: Thank you, fuck thanks brother.
- 2:30:04Speaker 1: Thanks, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 2:30:06Speaker 2: Bye bye.
