- 0:11Speaker 3: of the forty five yard.

- 0:27Speaker 3: State has found himself.
- 0:28Speaker 4: A place on this team.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Now here's your host, Nasa Chobie.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk. We are broadcasting
- 0:38Speaker 1: from the Seahawks Podcast Studio, presented by Sony, the official
- 0:41Speaker 1: partner of the Seattle Seahawks. Bump And Unfortunately, we were
- 0:46Speaker 1: hoping to still be working this week, getting ready for
- 0:48Speaker 1: a playoff game at Lumenfield against those Vikings. Unfortunately the
- 0:52Speaker 1: Seahawks are not playing in the postseason.
- 0:55Speaker 5: You still working, I ain't working. You still whim you're
- 0:57Speaker 5: still some work being?
- 0:58Speaker 4: Then? Yeah?
- 0:58Speaker 1: Sure, I see you know, I guess buddy, like we're good,
- 1:03Speaker 1: but no, twenty twenty four was a wild ride, right.
- 1:05Speaker 2: A lot of things happened this time.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Last January, Seahawks moved on from legendary head coach Pe
- 1:09Speaker 1: Carol after a fourteen year run of success. Then they
- 1:12Speaker 1: hired Mike McDonald and began a new air in Seattle. Now,
- 1:15Speaker 1: like we said, the Seahawks didn't make this playoffs, but
- 1:17Speaker 1: you can't say this year was any success. Let's just
- 1:19Speaker 1: look at some of the highlights under first year under
- 1:21Speaker 1: coach McDonald ten and seven record. Anytime you get to
- 1:24Speaker 1: double digit wins, that's a big thing. Mike McDonald passed
- 1:27Speaker 1: Chuck Knox and Mike Homgrian for the most wins by
- 1:30Speaker 1: a first year Seahawks head coach with ten. The Seahawks
- 1:33Speaker 1: achieved their fourteenth double digit win season in franchise history,
- 1:36Speaker 1: first since twenty twenty and the Seahawks tied the best
- 1:39Speaker 1: road record in franchise history at seven to one in
- 1:42Speaker 1: the longest road winning streak at six games.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Bump.
- 1:44Speaker 1: But what stood out to me the most about anything
- 1:46Speaker 1: about this team was how they improved on defense.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Yeah, defense was on point.
- 1:50Speaker 5: It started off kind of shaky, not shaky, but it
- 1:52Speaker 5: just didn't have the pop that we thought it was
- 1:54Speaker 5: going to have. But they went from thirty first against
- 1:56Speaker 5: the run long one hundred and thirty eight yards per
- 1:58Speaker 5: game in twenty twenty three to sixteenth allowing one hundred
- 2:01Speaker 5: and twenty yards per game in twenty twenty four, and
- 2:03Speaker 5: once Ernest and Tyree's night took over, it just felt different.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Man. It felt like a top ten defense. Those dudes
- 2:10Speaker 4: were on point.
- 2:11Speaker 5: And then they went from twenty first and the pass
- 2:14Speaker 5: defense allowing two hundred twenty three yards in twenty twenty
- 2:16Speaker 5: three to eleventh allowing two hundred and eleven yards per game.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Big ups to that d line. You know it starts there.
- 2:23Speaker 5: But then the back end was good. Jay Love had
- 2:24Speaker 5: himself a good season. Witherspoon statistically isn't gonna wow you,
- 2:28Speaker 5: but you watched the games.
- 2:29Speaker 4: He was everywhere, and then Reek had his moments as well.
- 2:32Speaker 5: And then they went from thirtieth in total defense allowing
- 2:34Speaker 5: three hundred seventyards seventy one yards per game to fourteenth
- 2:38Speaker 5: allowing three hundred and thirty two yards per game in
- 2:40Speaker 5: twenty twenty four.
- 2:41Speaker 4: It was improved. That's why Mike McDonald's brought here.
- 2:44Speaker 5: Improved his defense, the team as a whole, but specifically
- 2:47Speaker 5: the defense.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Yeah, and it felt like for a while the Seahawks
- 2:50Speaker 1: were known for defense. Here the standard has been said,
- 2:52Speaker 1: and Mike McDonald's talked about the standard is the standard.
- 2:55Speaker 1: When the Seahaws are getting back to that, it'd been
- 2:57Speaker 1: a couple of years before the defense kind of looked
- 2:58Speaker 1: like it did this year, so that was great to see.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So they're on their way. But like any football season
- 3:03Speaker 1: at any level, there's going to be changes. Whether you're
- 3:05Speaker 1: in middle school, high school, D three, D two, D one, Naia,
- 3:09Speaker 1: the pros, there's going to be changes. That was the
- 3:11Speaker 1: same for the Seahawks. On Monday, the Seahawks has had
- 3:13Speaker 1: to part ways with offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb after one season.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Coach McDonald met with the media on Tuesday, talking about
- 3:20Speaker 1: this season in twenty twenty four, but he is optimistic
- 3:23Speaker 1: for the future.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Yeah, we've had a great I mean, obviously what happened
- 3:28Speaker 6: yesterday with moving on from Ryan took the better part
- 3:31Speaker 6: of the morning. But you know, we've had this since
- 3:33Speaker 6: the team meeting, having a lot of opportunities to talk
- 3:36Speaker 6: to our coaches and our players, and it's been really great,
- 3:39Speaker 6: just really optimistic, fired up for what's ahead of us,
- 3:42Speaker 6: where the direction our team's going. I think, yeah, obviously
- 3:45Speaker 6: we want to be you know, fighting it out in
- 3:47Speaker 6: the playoffs and felt like we had a good enough
- 3:50Speaker 6: team to do some damage, but we didn't earn the
- 3:52Speaker 6: right to do that. So we're moving on. But we're
- 3:55Speaker 6: really man just excited about what's to come and working
- 3:59Speaker 6: through like what the off season is going to look like,
- 4:01Speaker 6: making some tweaks, how do we evolve all those things
- 4:03Speaker 6: that all that stuff's ahead of us, how we build
- 4:06Speaker 6: our roster, all those types of decisions, find a new
- 4:09Speaker 6: offsive coordinator, I mean, all those things. It's an exciting time,
- 4:13Speaker 6: excited about the foundation that we've been able to lay,
- 4:17Speaker 6: and ready to get back to.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Work now that it's been a couple of days. As
- 4:21Speaker 1: coach said, how excited he is about where this team
- 4:24Speaker 1: can go. What stood out to team you the most
- 4:26Speaker 1: this season, Well, we touched on the defense.
- 4:28Speaker 5: I think that was huge, And what stood out to
- 4:30Speaker 5: me is that Mike McDonald isn't afraid to make the
- 4:33Speaker 5: tough decision. You cut two linebackers, one who played every
- 4:37Speaker 5: single stat for you, the other one you brought over
- 4:39Speaker 5: from Miami thought was going to be a guy, and
- 4:41Speaker 5: you bring over Ernest Jones, and you start a rookie
- 4:43Speaker 5: that you drafted, not afraid to make the tough decision,
- 4:45Speaker 5: and then end of the season you let go Grub
- 4:47Speaker 5: just wasn't a good fit. What stood out to me
- 4:49Speaker 5: is that there is an energy about this team right
- 4:52Speaker 5: now that I feel like can kind.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Of pass over roll over to next year.
- 4:57Speaker 5: And him being a thirty seven year old head coach,
- 4:59Speaker 5: he did know what he didn't know he was in
- 5:01Speaker 5: the league. He's been a coordinator for Baltimore obviously and
- 5:03Speaker 5: then for Michigan. He's an experienced coach. But to be
- 5:06Speaker 5: in this position and to make tough decisions at thirty
- 5:09Speaker 5: seven years old your first year and get your team
- 5:11Speaker 5: to ten wins was impressive.
- 5:13Speaker 4: So he is a head coach.
- 5:14Speaker 5: I think that's the question when you hire young guys,
- 5:17Speaker 5: how he's going to handle the keyword in football adversity.
- 5:20Speaker 4: And my man did a good job.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Yeah, when you look back at his season, at no
- 5:24Speaker 1: point did you feel like the moment was too big. Ever,
- 5:27Speaker 1: when come about game management, whether it's managing the roster
- 5:30Speaker 1: or any of that stuff.
- 5:31Speaker 2: So that was cool to see.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I mean, there's been different coaches throughout the league, different
- 5:34Speaker 1: things that happened in Chicago, things like that, nothing ever
- 5:37Speaker 1: happened like that. In Seattle. He did a lot with
- 5:39Speaker 1: his defense, So I'm excited about that. But then I'm
- 5:41Speaker 1: also excited about bump guys like Jason. We're going to
- 5:44Speaker 1: talk about our all season long playmakers, but guys like Kim,
- 5:47Speaker 1: guys like Derek Call taking that second step. And when
- 5:50Speaker 1: you look at it, there's a lot of good players
- 5:52Speaker 1: on this offense. There's a lot of good people on
- 5:53Speaker 1: this team. And when you come to finding that next
- 5:57Speaker 1: person who's going to be that next offensive coordinator, here's
- 5:59Speaker 1: a coach Mike McDonald's looking for in that position.
- 6:02Speaker 6: I think it's a heck of a job. I mean,
- 6:03Speaker 6: it starts with the organization. I mean, all the things
- 6:06Speaker 6: that all the reasons why I felt like this is
- 6:09Speaker 6: such a great place to be has been backed up,
- 6:11Speaker 6: you know, tenfold. So that starts there, and then our
- 6:16Speaker 6: players are really the next best. I mean, and shoot,
- 6:17Speaker 6: we got great players, man, I mean we've got a
- 6:19Speaker 6: great young core, and I think I mean, shoot, I
- 6:24Speaker 6: think it's a heck of a job.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I think it's the best job.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Out there now. Assuming everything is status quo. Everyone who's
- 6:29Speaker 1: under contract is still here Geno, DK Tyler. Everybody just
- 6:33Speaker 1: operate under that assumption. What makes his job so attractive.
- 6:36Speaker 1: If you were going to take, like, let's say, Michael
- 6:38Speaker 1: Bump is gonna be the next offensive quarter why would
- 6:41Speaker 1: this be so intriguing for you?
- 6:43Speaker 5: It would be intriguing because of the personnel. One you
- 6:46Speaker 5: look at Geno Smith. Okay, I understand fifteen interceptions. I
- 6:50Speaker 5: get that, you break down the film like our colleague
- 6:53Speaker 5: b Walt did and really get specific. You realize half
- 6:55Speaker 5: of those weren't on him. But I love the leadership
- 6:58Speaker 5: of Gino and I like composure. I was watching I
- 7:02Speaker 5: forgot what game I was watching, and there was chaos
- 7:04Speaker 5: going on around the pocket and the quarterback has eyes
- 7:06Speaker 5: down and he's jitterering all that stuff. Gino don't do that.
- 7:09Speaker 5: He is the most composed guy I see in the pocket.
- 7:11Speaker 5: So it starts with your quarterback. I like Geno personnel.
- 7:15Speaker 5: You can have all the coaches in the world. If
- 7:16Speaker 5: you have the personnel got luck to, it ain't gonna work.
- 7:18Speaker 5: You still have DK, one of the most explosive receivers
- 7:21Speaker 5: in the game. You got Jsen who's turning into one
- 7:23Speaker 5: of the more dynamic receivers in the game. And then
- 7:26Speaker 5: the backfield, you got three running backs. Now you came
- 7:28Speaker 5: in this season when okay, yeah, ken Walker as the one.
- 7:31Speaker 5: We'll see what Zach and Kenney does. And now you
- 7:33Speaker 5: have three. All three have shown that they can get
- 7:35Speaker 5: it done. And then you have some bookend tackles. Of course,
- 7:38Speaker 5: you got to address some some issues on the offensive line,
- 7:40Speaker 5: but you still got young talent in the interior too.
- 7:42Speaker 5: So I think it's because of the personnel that's established
- 7:45Speaker 5: here already and then the potential of these young guys.
- 7:48Speaker 5: I look at this job, and you can run whatever
- 7:50Speaker 5: offense you want to run, but I have a feeling
- 7:52Speaker 5: I know what type of offense Mike McDonald wants to run.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:55Speaker 1: And the cool thing about it too is you got
- 7:56Speaker 1: to remember this staff came in late last year. Mc
- 8:00Speaker 1: donald was hired after the Ravens lost AC title game,
- 8:02Speaker 1: so it's almost February, so they got a late start
- 8:05Speaker 1: hiring the staff doing all that stuff, and he's worried
- 8:07Speaker 1: about building the staff, building culture, all that other things.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Not even you know they didn't go to the combine
- 8:13Speaker 1: things like that. So now that coaching staff, whoever is
- 8:15Speaker 1: going to be there, is going to make the combine.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Another year of him and Josh Schneider learned how to
- 8:19Speaker 1: work together and they you talk about the relationship, it
- 8:21Speaker 1: seems great. So I think they're miles ahead. Obviously, Yeah,
- 8:25Speaker 1: you want to be in the playoffs right now, but
- 8:26Speaker 1: they get a head start to this offseason figuring out
- 8:29Speaker 1: who they want to be here, how they're gonna get
- 8:30Speaker 1: it done, and they can really focus on the football
- 8:32Speaker 1: part of things and get things going. That being said, Bump,
- 8:36Speaker 1: what type of person do you think is going to
- 8:38Speaker 1: be in here when you come to the offensive coordinator
- 8:40Speaker 1: and offense? What meshes well with the personnel the Seahawks
- 8:43Speaker 1: have here in the style you think Mike McDonald wants
- 8:46Speaker 1: to play.
- 8:47Speaker 4: You got to be a teacher.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I met with Mike McDonald's so of you right we're
- 8:50Speaker 5: in the building, and he is big on being a teacher,
- 8:53Speaker 5: and that's what coaches are. Essentially. You're the professor. Yea,
- 8:56Speaker 5: Your students are showing up to class every single day.
- 8:58Speaker 5: Can you get the best out of them? When it
- 9:00Speaker 5: comes to the type of offense. I go back to
- 9:03Speaker 5: his roots. Where does he come from? Baltimore, Michigan. What
- 9:07Speaker 5: do they do? They pack it in tight, they run
- 9:09Speaker 5: the football, they still throw it. Don't get it twists,
- 9:10Speaker 5: and they will still throw the football. But it's hard
- 9:13Speaker 5: nosed type of football. It's downhill type of football. And
- 9:16Speaker 5: that's kind of what we saw with Zach Charpay and
- 9:17Speaker 5: Kenny Mackintosh towards the end of the year with Ken Walkerson.
- 9:20Speaker 5: Now as they started to get downhill, but they couldn't
- 9:22Speaker 5: really as Big Ray said, marry the pass with the run.
- 9:27Speaker 4: When I saw them running that pen and pool, I
- 9:28Speaker 4: got excited. I couldn't wait to see how they built
- 9:30Speaker 4: off of that.
- 9:31Speaker 5: And I think that he wants to have a concept
- 9:33Speaker 5: that is their identity, and then you build off of that,
- 9:36Speaker 5: like that's the tree trunk, and then you got all
- 9:38Speaker 5: these branches that are off this run in this style
- 9:41Speaker 5: of play. So a guy who understands that running the
- 9:44Speaker 5: football controls the game, controls the temple, and it helps
- 9:46Speaker 5: your defense out as well. So I'm not necessarily saying
- 9:49Speaker 5: run the football fifty times, but their identity has to
- 9:52Speaker 5: be a hard nosed, downhill type of team.
- 9:55Speaker 4: That can still be explosive on the outside.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Going back to Baltimore, they're downhill and my man Lamar
- 10:01Speaker 5: Jackson is still throwing for four thousand yards yeah, and
- 10:04Speaker 5: forty one touchdowns, So don't get it twisted.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I think that's kind of what he's looking for. Yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 1: it'll be a fun watch as this off season goes on.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Hopefully they'll have someone in place here soon. But yeah,
- 10:13Speaker 1: it's gonna be fun because, like you said, the personnel's there,
- 10:15Speaker 1: we know the culture set, we kind of know what
- 10:18Speaker 1: it is. Now it's this film, that last piece and
- 10:20Speaker 1: seeing where these guys can go. But like we said,
- 10:22Speaker 1: it was a good season. A lot of good things
- 10:24Speaker 1: went on. There's a lot of people making plays all
- 10:26Speaker 1: season Long's talk about them, playmakers, touch up, playmakers.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Told him what time it is?
- 10:37Speaker 1: Ho Wait, we are broadcasting live from the Seahawks Podcast Studio,
- 10:41Speaker 1: presented by Sony, the official partner of the Seattle Seahawks Bump.
- 10:44Speaker 2: We're gonna start with the quarterback, you know Smith, like
- 10:46Speaker 2: we normally do.
- 10:48Speaker 1: You know, for as much of a lightning rod he
- 10:50Speaker 1: was for certain people because of the interceptions and things
- 10:52Speaker 1: like that. You know, had a really good season. He
- 10:54Speaker 1: finished it four one hundred and seven of five to
- 10:56Speaker 1: seventy eight, a seventy point four completion percentage for fourth thousand,
- 11:00Speaker 1: three hundred and twenty yards, twenty one touchdowns, fifteen interceptions.
- 11:03Speaker 1: He was also sacked fifty times. He had fifty three
- 11:05Speaker 1: carries for two hundred and seventy two yards and two touchdowns.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Here's where he ranked in the National Football League. He
- 11:11Speaker 1: was fourth in passing yards, fourth in attempts, second in completions,
- 11:14Speaker 1: fifth in completion percentage. He broke his own franchise records
- 11:18Speaker 1: for single season attempts, completions, yard completion percentage, tied Russell
- 11:22Speaker 1: Wilson for the most three hundred passing games. And despite
- 11:24Speaker 1: the narrative, like I said, by some he put together,
- 11:27Speaker 1: he has put together two of the best statistical seasons
- 11:30Speaker 1: ever by a quarterback to play for this franchise. We
- 11:32Speaker 1: know there's a lot of good ones from the zorn,
- 11:34Speaker 1: said David Craig, the Matt hasselback Russell Wilson.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Obviously, so yeah, could he turn.
- 11:39Speaker 1: The ball over less than the red zone, of course,
- 11:41Speaker 1: but we also know a lot of those interceptions were
- 11:43Speaker 1: on him. He still did a lot of things. He
- 11:44Speaker 1: was being asked to throw that many times and he
- 11:47Speaker 1: still had over seventy percent completion percentage. That means he's
- 11:49Speaker 1: obviously doing some good things. You watched that Rams tape. Yes,
- 11:52Speaker 1: maybe they weren't playing all their starters, but some of
- 11:54Speaker 1: those way he was moving in the pocket, the way
- 11:56Speaker 1: he spun out touchdown.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I mean, Gino had a great year and showed in
- 11:59Speaker 2: the statue.
- 12:00Speaker 5: What I like about his year is that he broke
- 12:02Speaker 5: all of his records in a seventeen game season. Because
- 12:05Speaker 5: you know, the haters go, oh, he broke all those
- 12:07Speaker 5: records and he had one more extra game, Like, okay,
- 12:09Speaker 5: now I'm gonna bring my own records with the same
- 12:11Speaker 5: amount of games of the season. So I like seeing
- 12:13Speaker 5: that in them. The seventy percent completion percentage is big
- 12:16Speaker 5: for me. Russell Wilson was so close to doing it
- 12:19Speaker 5: a couple of times and never got it done. And
- 12:21Speaker 5: it's so hard to do. There's only about a handful
- 12:22Speaker 5: of quarterbacks every year that can do it. And when
- 12:25Speaker 5: you are what fourth in completion no excuse me, attempts
- 12:29Speaker 5: in the league and you're completing seventy percent of your passes, man,
- 12:32Speaker 5: you tippy cap and you say, job well done, forty
- 12:34Speaker 5: three hundred yards. Geno was just composed. All the stuff
- 12:38Speaker 5: that was going down, all the talk outside of this building.
- 12:42Speaker 5: He never wavered. He was the same guy every single day.
- 12:44Speaker 5: I appreciate Geno for that.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah, No love what we saw from Geno. How about
- 12:48Speaker 1: Jason I alluded to him earlier, but he did his
- 12:49Speaker 1: thing this year too, Bump.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Jay and sim Man. I was hoping he broke that record,
- 12:52Speaker 5: but he tied. And it's almost it's almost the perfect ending, right.
- 12:55Speaker 5: You got Tyler Lockett. We'll see what happens with him
- 12:56Speaker 5: next year. Your tighest record of one hundred receptions. He
- 12:59Speaker 5: had eleven hundred and thirty yards and six touchdowns, he said,
- 13:02Speaker 5: a single season career high in receptions, yards and touchdowns.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Like I mentioned, he tied Tyler Locke at single season
- 13:08Speaker 5: receptions record with one hundred and became the tenth player
- 13:10Speaker 5: in franchise history to have a thousand yards in a
- 13:13Speaker 5: single season. It's almost like this came out of nowhere.
- 13:16Speaker 5: It was a slow start for JSM and people are
- 13:19Speaker 5: questioning and.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Was he the right pick?
- 13:21Speaker 5: And then boom, DK goes down and he kind of
- 13:23Speaker 5: takes off it was really before DK went down against
- 13:26Speaker 5: the Rams is when he kind of showed up and
- 13:29Speaker 5: let people know I can go for a buck eighty.
- 13:31Speaker 5: I really probably should have went for like two fifty,
- 13:32Speaker 5: but I had a bunch of yards called back to
- 13:34Speaker 5: the penalties.
- 13:35Speaker 4: But yeah, no, Jysen he is, he's here, he's emerging.
- 13:38Speaker 5: He is a top ten receiver in this league right
- 13:40Speaker 5: now and someone that will be relied upon heavily.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just the beginning, and it's crazy they think, yeah,
- 13:44Speaker 1: six games in the season. I think he had one
- 13:46Speaker 1: hundred yard game against the Patriots, but everything else is
- 13:48Speaker 1: a lot lower than that. And the conversation they're being had, well,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I think those conversations are over. He's established who is
- 13:53Speaker 1: the National Football League. So I'd love to see what
- 13:55Speaker 1: JSN did this year. His other receiver made DK metcalf gosh,
- 14:00Speaker 1: another record that was just short eight yards sort of.
- 14:02Speaker 1: One thousand yard season, sixty six receptions, nine hundred and
- 14:04Speaker 1: ninety two yards, five touchdowns on the season joined Randy
- 14:08Speaker 1: Moss as the only players in NFL history to record
- 14:10Speaker 1: fifty receptions, nine hundred yards and five touchdowns in each
- 14:13Speaker 1: of his first six seasons. Anytime You're on a list
- 14:15Speaker 1: with just Randy Moss and you you're obviously doing something
- 14:18Speaker 1: well past Daryl Jackson for fourth play some seattles all
- 14:21Speaker 1: time receiving touchdown list with forty eight. He has the
- 14:23Speaker 1: most receiving yards, receptions, and touchdowns in the first six
- 14:26Speaker 1: seasons in franchise history. Did all that while missing two games.
- 14:30Speaker 1: DK is obviously a threat for this team and they
- 14:32Speaker 1: are better with him on it. I'm really hoping he
- 14:35Speaker 1: can build off this next year. Again, he says, healthy
- 14:37Speaker 1: the whole season, we know what he can do. Yep,
- 14:39Speaker 1: we know what he does imposing defenses. And despite missing
- 14:41Speaker 1: a couple games and having a couple of things not
- 14:43Speaker 1: go his way batting, knee injury, batting, some other stuff,
- 14:45Speaker 1: he still had a pretty good year.
- 14:47Speaker 5: He was still that force man. He was still the
- 14:49Speaker 5: downfill threat. At one point before he got injured. I
- 14:52Speaker 5: believe he was like second in the NFL for big
- 14:55Speaker 5: plays receptions over twenty yards.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Essentially, we know what he can do. Man.
- 15:00Speaker 5: You don't find DK Metcalfs walking down the street. You
- 15:03Speaker 5: don't physically, you just don't find it. You might find
- 15:05Speaker 5: a JSN walking down the street, but you ain't finding
- 15:07Speaker 5: a dk metcalf walking down the street. Tyler Lockett a
- 15:12Speaker 5: down year for him, but these numbers that he put
- 15:15Speaker 5: up will allow receiver to play in the league for
- 15:17Speaker 5: seven eight years.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Right.
- 15:19Speaker 5: Forty nine reception, six hundred yards and two touchdowns is
- 15:21Speaker 5: a down year for my man, but he still makes
- 15:24Speaker 5: a big plays. He became the second player in franchise
- 15:26Speaker 5: history with thirteen thousand combined yards. His streak of eighty
- 15:30Speaker 5: one games with the catch came to an end earlier
- 15:32Speaker 5: this season against Arizona, which was the second longest streak
- 15:35Speaker 5: in franchise history. He ranked second in Sea Our history
- 15:38Speaker 5: and receptions yards and receiving touchdowns, only trailing the Hall
- 15:41Speaker 5: of Famer Steve Largin. The season that Tyler Lockett had
- 15:46Speaker 5: was what the Hawks needed from him in this situation. Right,
- 15:51Speaker 5: there were years where you needed him to be the
- 15:52Speaker 5: thousand yard guy, to have ten plus touchdowns, but you
- 15:55Speaker 5: just didn't need that ten years in the game. It's
- 15:57Speaker 5: all right, Og, you go ahead and you make your
- 15:59Speaker 5: big plays, make these first downs. Let these young bulls
- 16:02Speaker 5: get all these yards. He's been just a pleasure to
- 16:04Speaker 5: cover over the years. Man, I've been so grateful to
- 16:06Speaker 5: meet this dude to talk to him and interview him.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Just a class act, one of a kind.
- 16:10Speaker 5: You don't find Tyler Lockett in the NFL, and then
- 16:13Speaker 5: you match his personality with just a longevity that he's
- 16:16Speaker 5: had in his career.
- 16:17Speaker 4: In his career, it's a blessing. Man. I'm happy I've
- 16:20Speaker 4: been able to cover him.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Tyler's been the og the longest, ten yured Seahawks, never
- 16:24Speaker 1: missed a beat from twenty fifteen. He was the same
- 16:25Speaker 1: person he was when he walked in this building. He's
- 16:27Speaker 1: the same person today. So I love Tyler Lockett. Everything's
- 16:30Speaker 1: been able to do. We'd love to see him back,
- 16:31Speaker 1: but we'll kind of wait and see. But again, anytime
- 16:34Speaker 1: you're second to the goat, Steve Large, you obviously had
- 16:37Speaker 1: a great career flipping over defense. I want to touch
- 16:39Speaker 1: on Leonard Williams man big.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Cat, come on now.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Sixty four tackles, eleven sacks, sixteen TFLs, twenty eight QB hits,
- 16:46Speaker 1: a ninety two yard pick six, three passes defended, and
- 16:49Speaker 1: a block kick his ninety two yard pick six. As
- 16:51Speaker 1: we know, as long as a turn for an interior lineman.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Someone went over three hundred pounds in NFL history. He
- 16:56Speaker 1: also became the first player since nineteen eighty two with
- 16:58Speaker 1: multiple sacks, interception or a turn touchdown, and a block
- 17:02Speaker 1: kick in one game. He became the first Yawks player
- 17:05Speaker 1: with double digit sacks since Frank Clark and Jared Reid
- 17:07Speaker 1: in twenty eighteen. Unreal, obviously, how he's.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Not a pro bowler. We talked about that, We got
- 17:12Speaker 2: that our chest. We know that was complete nonsense.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Hopefully the writers will make it right and make him
- 17:16Speaker 1: an All Pro and big cat. I mean, you sign
- 17:19Speaker 1: him in the offseason because of that. That is the
- 17:21Speaker 1: guy you signed, and he showed up ball that one
- 17:23Speaker 1: of the MVP's on defense level.
- 17:25Speaker 2: We saw from him all year long.
- 17:26Speaker 5: This might be one of the best acquisitions in John
- 17:30Speaker 5: Schneider's tenure here with the Seahawks. When you get a
- 17:32Speaker 5: defensive lineman who can do the things that Leonard Williams
- 17:36Speaker 5: can do, it affects the ball game and it's almost fitting.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I was watching Get Up the other day and the
- 17:42Speaker 5: disrespect is real. They had him as like the second
- 17:47Speaker 5: biggest play for a big offense, our defensive lineman of
- 17:50Speaker 5: the year, and then they have the wrong pitcher up
- 17:52Speaker 5: there for him.
- 17:53Speaker 4: They had.
- 17:55Speaker 5: Robertson Harris. But you know what, I go, I go,
- 17:59Speaker 5: that's fitting. You know what that is fitting? Keep your
- 18:01Speaker 5: chip on your shoulder, being all pro and make these
- 18:03Speaker 5: dudes recognize how impactful you are in a game. I
- 18:07Speaker 5: was saying this earlier in the season, like he's blowing
- 18:10Speaker 5: stuff up. You might not see the sacks early got
- 18:14Speaker 5: going late, you might not see the sacks, but he
- 18:16Speaker 5: is blowing stuff up.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Man.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Just a massive human being and an athletic human being.
- 18:22Speaker 5: When I saw him take that pick ninety two yards
- 18:23Speaker 5: and saw the forum and saw the knees get up,
- 18:25Speaker 5: I go, yeah, my man played running back when he
- 18:27Speaker 5: was a kid back in the day. Just super athletic,
- 18:29Speaker 5: good dude. And I don't know if he is a captain.
- 18:32Speaker 5: I know they rotated captains this year, but if they
- 18:34Speaker 5: had a captain on defense, he would be one of
- 18:36Speaker 5: them for sure.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Yeah, no question about it. And also disrespect Espniard kidding me.
- 18:40Speaker 1: He played for both New York teams. Crazy, he's done it.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Crazy.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Come on, that's bad. I'm yelling at the TV byself.
- 18:45Speaker 1: Come on, man, anyway, Leo, absolute style level we saw
- 18:49Speaker 1: from this year.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Julian Love consistent.
- 18:52Speaker 5: He got paid the soft season and he like the
- 18:55Speaker 5: performed like he got paid this AFT season. One hundred
- 18:57Speaker 5: and nine tackles, three TFLs, twelve passes the A, three intercessions,
- 19:01Speaker 5: two forced fumbles, one funnel recovery, and one block kick.
- 19:04Speaker 5: He tied for the team lead and interceptions. Posted a
- 19:07Speaker 5: third consecutive one hundred tackles season. Julian Love one is
- 19:12Speaker 5: a professional. It's hard time to get up on the
- 19:16Speaker 5: podium after loss and answer these questions and then do
- 19:20Speaker 5: it after a win and give love to everybody else.
- 19:23Speaker 5: Met the man before, and he's just he shows up
- 19:25Speaker 5: to work. He is a true professional man. When you
- 19:28Speaker 5: think of a safety who can be relied upon and
- 19:31Speaker 5: can be a leader, it's Julian Love. And he didn't
- 19:34Speaker 5: miss many tackles. Of course, guys missed tackles. This the
- 19:36Speaker 5: NFL is going to happen, but he did not miss
- 19:38Speaker 5: many tackles. Super reliable on the back end.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I loved you and love He does everything the
- 19:42Speaker 1: team asks for him from a media standpoint, talking to
- 19:45Speaker 1: the media, doing all the interviews, and then on the field,
- 19:47Speaker 1: he was a difference maker. He was making splash plays
- 19:50Speaker 1: TFLs keeping guys in front of doing all that thing.
- 19:53Speaker 1: So Julian love big ups number twenty for a huge year.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Shout out to him and his family. I know he's
- 19:57Speaker 1: got a young one at home, so doing his thing there.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Then Ernest Joe another you're talking about acquisitions, another guy
- 20:03Speaker 1: that was complete game changer. The Seahawks are nowhere near
- 20:06Speaker 1: ten wins if Ernest Jones is not on this football team.
- 20:08Speaker 1: He comes to Seahawks in week eight and then since
- 20:10Speaker 1: week eight he had ninety four tackles, half a SAG,
- 20:13Speaker 1: one TfL, two passes have been into one ie one
- 20:16Speaker 1: force fumble.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 20:18Speaker 5: Ernest Jones brought this light, this toughness to a defense.
- 20:23Speaker 5: You had it on the D line with Leo, but
- 20:25Speaker 5: you needed it on that second level and Ernest brought him.
- 20:28Speaker 5: And I like how he's affecting the young man next
- 20:32Speaker 5: to him too, Tyres nine. I mean, it's such a
- 20:34Speaker 5: blessing to have Ernest Jones leath away who's still young,
- 20:38Speaker 5: what is like twenty four to twenty five years old,
- 20:40Speaker 5: young dude. Yeah, and then you got Tyre s Nyde
- 20:42Speaker 5: to the right of them.
- 20:43Speaker 4: To the left. However, they line up. But it's bigger
- 20:46Speaker 4: than just Ernest.
- 20:47Speaker 5: It's the effect he had on the defense of the
- 20:48Speaker 5: mentorship that he has with Tyres Knight.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, goodness, gracious, he was just that stabling force.
- 20:53Speaker 1: The Seahawks were giving up one hundred and fifty yards
- 20:56Speaker 1: a game. It was like back to back to back
- 20:58Speaker 1: to back weeks. He comes in there, resets it. The
- 21:00Speaker 1: first time he actually has a full week of practice
- 21:02Speaker 1: was that first Rams game. Now is the first time
- 21:04Speaker 1: the defense started playing well big you know, obviously got
- 21:06Speaker 1: attribute a lot of that to Ernest Jones, So love
- 21:08Speaker 1: what he did there. And then another one bump. I'll
- 21:10Speaker 1: go with Devin Witherspoon. You talked about it earlier. If
- 21:14Speaker 1: this isn't a great statistical season, I would sign up
- 21:17Speaker 1: for this every single year. Ninety eight tackles, one sacks,
- 21:20Speaker 1: six TFLs, nine passes, defend in one force fumble. Yes,
- 21:23Speaker 1: he didn't have the big splash interception or anything like that,
- 21:25Speaker 1: but he was voted to the Pro Bowl for the
- 21:26Speaker 1: second consecutive year.
- 21:28Speaker 2: And his energy and motor is just unmatched.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I mean, the way this guy plays, he's NonStop bump
- 21:33Speaker 1: Like you can't teach what he does on a football field.
- 21:35Speaker 1: You talk about I think, case in point, the interception
- 21:38Speaker 1: Kobe's interception, what he was able to do. Think it's
- 21:41Speaker 1: a run, spin out, pressure, Kyler Williams or Kyler murrayscuse me,
- 21:45Speaker 1: the fastest dude at quarterback in this league, and then run.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I mean everything that he was able to do this year.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Devin Witherspoon is a cornerstone for this defense. At his stature,
- 21:55Speaker 1: was still able to play in every single game this year.
- 21:57Speaker 1: He's a difference maker. I love to see what we're
- 21:58Speaker 1: seeing from him.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Play him at corner, get him at nickel, he'd be
- 22:02Speaker 5: in the box trying to mix it up as well.
- 22:04Speaker 5: He he's probably listed at a buck eighty five. He's
- 22:08Speaker 5: probably a buck seventy five. Yeah, but he plays like
- 22:11Speaker 5: he's two h five out there. The energy, the passion,
- 22:14Speaker 5: the talk. You need guys like him out there, and
- 22:17Speaker 5: it's he's slowly becoming the leader already and it's only
- 22:20Speaker 5: a second year in the NFL.
- 22:22Speaker 4: That's fine.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Derek Hall loves seeing the growth of this dude. He
- 22:26Speaker 5: used to be a one trick pony. Now he got
- 22:28Speaker 5: like three Foux tricks down. He's doing his thing, thirty
- 22:31Speaker 5: seven tackles, eight sacks, six TfL's, two force fumbles, one
- 22:34Speaker 5: fumble return for a touchdown, and took a second year jump.
- 22:38Speaker 5: Very similar to our guy boy Mafe. Derek Hall is
- 22:43Speaker 5: a guy who plays with like force.
- 22:46Speaker 4: You know.
- 22:46Speaker 5: I think of like just the most powerful thing in
- 22:49Speaker 5: this world to me, and the scarce thing is the ocean,
- 22:51Speaker 5: right the waves, the force that it plays with. That's
- 22:53Speaker 5: what I see when I see Derek Hall. He plays
- 22:55Speaker 5: with just the force of waves, man, and he's getting confident.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Like I said, he used to a bullrush. Now he's
- 23:00Speaker 5: got some hand movement. He took a huge jump this year.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it. He's strong, He's a physical dude.
- 23:06Speaker 1: That's the dude that we thought were getting from Auburn. Yeah,
- 23:08Speaker 1: and it takes a while you come to the league.
- 23:09Speaker 1: You're kind of figuring things out. He took that step
- 23:11Speaker 1: and just kind of played a role between him and
- 23:13Speaker 1: Jay Reid and Leo what that defense can do. So
- 23:16Speaker 1: I love what we saw from him. And then Kobe
- 23:18Speaker 1: Bryant loved the story from Kobe comes in as a corner,
- 23:22Speaker 1: moves inside to the slot, has a great year, forces
- 23:25Speaker 1: four fumbles, doing his thing there. And then second year
- 23:28Speaker 1: they draft Evan Witherspoon, he kind of loses the spot,
- 23:30Speaker 1: doesn't pout, doesn't do anything they asked him to change
- 23:33Speaker 1: his safety another position, twitches he do because everything he's
- 23:36Speaker 1: asked to him comes in this year, took his opportunity,
- 23:39Speaker 1: was kind of in some nickel packages and personnel early on.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Then Rashawn Jenkins went down and he took that job
- 23:44Speaker 1: and did not give it back. Seventy three tackles, three interceptions,
- 23:47Speaker 1: six passes defended, one force fumble, one sixty nine yard
- 23:50Speaker 1: pick six did that well starting just eleven games. Like
- 23:53Speaker 1: I said, took over for Jenkin's spot, and I just
- 23:56Speaker 1: love his journey and what he was able to do.
- 23:59Speaker 2: And Kobe's dog.
- 24:00Speaker 1: He's one of the one of the really good dudes
- 24:02Speaker 1: in the locker room again, another guy that will always
- 24:04Speaker 1: speak to the media, win, lose, draw. Kobe's that dude.
- 24:08Speaker 1: We could spend time talking about so many guys in
- 24:10Speaker 1: our locker room. Those are who we spot shot out tonight.
- 24:12Speaker 1: So a lot of cool players, a lot of good
- 24:14Speaker 1: guys that can figure ways out next year to really
- 24:17Speaker 1: cont contribute help this football team. So I'm excited about
- 24:20Speaker 1: that we're broadcasting live from the Seahawks Podcast Studio presented
- 24:23Speaker 1: by Sony, the official partner of the Seattle Seahawks. In
- 24:26Speaker 1: this NFL season, feel every play, every hit, every moment
- 24:29Speaker 1: with the Sony one thousand XM five noise canceling headphones,
- 24:32Speaker 1: the official headphones of the Seattle Seahawks. With premium noise cancelation,
- 24:36Speaker 1: You're in the zone, no distractions, just pure football. Whether
- 24:39Speaker 1: you're in your living room or on the go, You'll
- 24:41Speaker 1: never miss a beat with Sony Headphones.
- 24:43Speaker 4: Bump.
- 24:43Speaker 2: We gotta look at the rest of the offseason, what
- 24:46Speaker 2: it's going to look like. What's on tap? What's on tap?
- 24:52Speaker 1: So coming up, we got the NFL Combine that's February
- 24:55Speaker 1: twenty fourth to March third. Free agency gets going on
- 24:58Speaker 1: March twelfth. Everything kind of it gets while there offseason
- 25:01Speaker 1: program with teams that have returning head coaches. So the
- 25:04Speaker 1: Seahawks here in Seattle April twenty first, that's when the
- 25:07Speaker 1: players have kind of come back and they can start
- 25:08Speaker 1: doing activities. Then you have the NFL Draft April twenty
- 25:11Speaker 1: fourth to the twenty six, and then rookie Minicamp is
- 25:14Speaker 1: typically you know, either the first or second week of May.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Then you got the schedule release OTA's mandatory mini camp,
- 25:20Speaker 1: and then we're back here at training camp. It feels
- 25:22Speaker 1: like a lot bump, but we'll be back here very shortly.
- 25:25Speaker 5: Right now, it's gonna crawl because we gotta watch other
- 25:28Speaker 5: teams play football, but as soon as it's over, it's
- 25:31Speaker 5: gonna happen fairly quickly. And I'm so excited to see
- 25:34Speaker 5: just how this organization progresses off of this ten and
- 25:38Speaker 5: seven season, when you were so close to making the playoffs.
- 25:41Speaker 5: You go back and you reflect on the season. There
- 25:42Speaker 5: are things that you wish they could have gotten done.
- 25:45Speaker 5: But this is what I expected, and I'm happy that
- 25:48Speaker 5: Mike MacDonald got off to the start that he did,
- 25:50Speaker 5: and now he has.
- 25:51Speaker 4: A full off season to really both this thing to
- 25:53Speaker 4: what he wants.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Yeah, between him and John SCHNI have been doing a
- 25:56Speaker 1: lot a long time. Obviously, that pairing's gonna be great,
- 25:59Speaker 1: just like it was Carol. So I'm excited what this
- 26:01Speaker 1: team can do. Unfortunately, this season, though the clock did
- 26:04Speaker 1: run out.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Knee taken by Uny, They're just gonna let the clock
- 26:10Speaker 3: wind down. I'm not even gonna bother taking that last
- 26:12Speaker 3: time out.
- 26:13Speaker 1: You talked about a bump. How this season off scene
- 26:15Speaker 1: is gonna be fine. We get to see what Mike
- 26:17Speaker 1: McDonald John Snyder can build. The biggest thing is gonna
- 26:20Speaker 1: be finding the offensive coordinator that's kind of set this
- 26:22Speaker 1: thing off and see how the rest of the offense
- 26:24Speaker 1: shakes out.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Lots of build on, lots look forward to.
- 26:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I gotta find out OLC. Well, step number one,
- 26:29Speaker 5: fine the OLC and just keep building. Man, you're stacking days,
- 26:34Speaker 5: you're stacking weeks, and you're creating something special here. And
- 26:39Speaker 5: it gets me excited about next season because of just
- 26:42Speaker 5: the steps that we're taking defensively. Offensively, they still did
- 26:45Speaker 5: some great things. At one point they were a top
- 26:47Speaker 5: five passing team in the game. Gino hit some numbers,
- 26:51Speaker 5: he got paid big us to getting his incentives extra
- 26:53Speaker 5: six million. Good for you, Gino. But but yeah, it's
- 26:56Speaker 5: all about just stacking. My son, I tell him every
- 26:59Speaker 5: day second days. So so there they're gonna be second
- 27:01Speaker 5: days over here.
- 27:02Speaker 1: That's what coach McDonald preaches, that there stacking wins and
- 27:05Speaker 1: it's one performance after another. So it's exciting, you know,
- 27:08Speaker 1: and in terms of me and you, we'll be back
- 27:10Speaker 1: periodically through off season. Obviously, were gonna take a little
- 27:12Speaker 1: bit of break here, but when news breaks, we'll probably
- 27:14Speaker 1: jump back on and me. And you've been doing this
- 27:16Speaker 1: for a little while now, bump this is six you're
- 27:18Speaker 1: doing this first season on YouTube. So we appreciate all
- 27:20Speaker 1: of you guys for listening. We're not gonna be gone
- 27:22Speaker 1: for too long. We will be back. And uh, I
- 27:24Speaker 1: just want to clarify one click thing bumps about our name.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I've seen people like hawk Talk like someone else has
- 27:29Speaker 1: that name. I just wanted to be clear. Hawk Talk
- 27:32Speaker 1: is an extension of the Seahawks Postgame Show, which is
- 27:35Speaker 1: the last hour of the postgame show.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yep, that has been going on for decades, decades, So
- 27:40Speaker 2: we copyed no one there now. I just want to
- 27:42Speaker 2: put that out there.
- 27:42Speaker 4: You guys can make assumptions off of what he just said.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Yeah, No, we're good. We're good.
