- 0:15What is going on, everybody? I am.
- 0:18I'm excited for today. I have my buddy Ash back.
- 0:24Ashley there. I can't see you at the moment.
- 0:26You there? I am here, yes.
- 0:29Alright. Cool.
- 0:30No, you're good. You're good.
- 0:31Yeah, I don't have to see you. I just I, I, you know, cuz this
- 0:34is a podcast, but I just want to make sure you're there.
- 0:37So I got to tell you something, brother.
- 0:39The first one of these we did on our podcast network, sports card
- 0:44Clubhouse. We've posted about 60 podcast
- 0:48episodes now, and by far the most listened to podcast is the
- 0:55one with Meno. What do you think about that?
- 0:59Amen. I give all the glory to God for,
- 1:01for the community supporting us and, and you, you know, just
- 1:05just wanting to hear what, what we have to say.
- 1:07Greg, I, I think it's great. And you, you know, candidly,
- 1:11that's why we're here now, right to, to, to talk, talk more
- 1:14baseball cards and to answer some questions and, you know,
- 1:18give everybody a feel of, of what we see in the hobby and,
- 1:22and and so forth. I mean, so I'm I'm hey, it, it,
- 1:25it's great, man. Makes me feel good that people
- 1:28like to hear what we say. And we got to have the boys on
- 1:31here one day, Greg, somebody I, so I made a post with the
- 1:36original podcast and one question was for Dalen and JB
- 1:41and I, I, I could answer it, man, but I, I think it comes
- 1:44better from them because let them organically say what
- 1:48they're going to say. And yet yet, you know, and and
- 1:50so forth. So.
- 1:51For sure. And they're they're great dudes.
- 1:53And, you know, anybody who's been to one of your booths at a
- 1:56show, I know those two guys. Yeah, I mean, I'm with you,
- 2:01dude. It's like we're just couple of
- 2:03guys hanging out who like cards. You get to talk about this
- 2:06stuff. And if, if what we do could be
- 2:08entertaining for people, then we'll keep doing it.
- 2:11You know, I said from the beginning, if we could try to do
- 2:14about one of these a month at minimum, maybe some months even
- 2:18more, depending on schedules and stuff.
- 2:20But I'm looking forward to continuing and doing this.
- 2:24Now let I have I have a lot of questions.
- 2:27And one of the things you just said I think is important.
- 2:30You said if people have questions that they can post
- 2:32them. If you're listening to this on
- 2:34Spotify or Apple or wherever it is that you listen to your
- 2:37podcast, there should be a way for you to post questions.
- 2:41So feel free. If there are things that you
- 2:43want us to talk about, things that you want me to ask Ash
- 2:46about, feel free to do that because that's one of the things
- 2:51I think we want is we want to be talking about things that people
- 2:54want to hear about. And I got to tell you before we
- 2:58got on about 15 minutes ago, I was texting with a few of my
- 3:02hobby buddies and I was telling that we were going to talk.
- 3:04I was like, what do you want me to ask him about?
- 3:07And, and I got it, my boy Mookie, who I don't know if you
- 3:11know him by his name, Mookie, but my buddy Mookie and then
- 3:14Mike Petty, who that's his alter Eagle eager name.
- 3:18He said. They both said, we've listened
- 3:21to Ash doing eBay lives and he sounds like he's having so much
- 3:26fun doing them. Like I have two questions from
- 3:31that What, what, what inspired you to suddenly jump into the
- 3:37eBay world and do the eBay lives?
- 3:40And what is it about eBay lives that you're having fun doing?
- 3:45So eBay live, I have a buddy that works at eBay that you
- 3:52know, that I've known for several years and he kind of
- 3:55came up the, the thought to, hey, you know, why don't you do
- 3:58eBay live and get, you know, bring some vintage on there.
- 4:02And I'll be honest with you, Greg, I have a lot of the stuff
- 4:05that we sell on eBay live. I have a good amount of it.
- 4:09I probably have a couple of 1000 slabs that are that just
- 4:13unfortunately we can't bring to the shows, right?
- 4:16And so, so, yeah, you know, we, we pull anywhere from 50 to 75
- 4:23cards and we, we run them on eBay live.
- 4:26And yeah, you know, I said I'd give it a shot.
- 4:28And so I gave it a shot, see how it went.
- 4:31And yeah, you know, it went well.
- 4:34And we did good on some cards. And, you know, some cards, not
- 4:37so much. But I mean, it's a learning
- 4:38experience, right? So, so we learned and we learned
- 4:42what the people want. I, as many of you guys know, I
- 4:45don't really sell on eBay that much, right.
- 4:47It's it's, you know, thankfully fake Facebook has been great,
- 4:54the shows have been great. And just just the way we've
- 4:56organically built Legacy Guards has been phenomenal.
- 5:00Well, you know, we did all of that without eBay.
- 5:03So now when we bring eBay into the fold, it just, you know, we
- 5:09listed all of our inventory was, it was a perfect storm actually.
- 5:13So we listed like all of our inventory, November, December,
- 5:17eBay had a special in December where it was like half off of
- 5:21final value fees and we crushed it in the month of December,
- 5:25man, we absolutely crushed it. And there's not many people that
- 5:29have kind of the selection that we're able to bring.
- 5:33And, and so, so, you know, we we sold a lot of cards and it was
- 5:39good. And, and so we said, OK, we were
- 5:41looking for other ways to kind of branch out, right?
- 5:44Whether it's it's having somebody help me sell some of
- 5:48the cards that we have or get, you know, something like that.
- 5:51It's something that we spoke about for 2026.
- 5:54Well, you know, eBay kind of became that somebody to help me
- 5:58sell more cards, except it's just, it fits right into our
- 6:01model because we, we're basically an online business.
- 6:04We ship cards every day. It helped me hire a friend that
- 6:09was looking for a job that, that, that he's very good at
- 6:14shipping. He's very meticulous.
- 6:16He's very detail oriented. So you know, you as you know,
- 6:19when you ship something, you got to ship it right?
- 6:21You got to ship it with care, got to ship it with love.
- 6:24Obviously you got to make sure the people are getting the right
- 6:26cards and, and so it just just worked that it just, it was a
- 6:31perfect storm. And, and so now we have really
- 6:35high aspirations for the year of 2026 with eBay.
- 6:39And, and actually Greg Thursday, this coming Thursday, we're
- 6:43doing our biggest eBay live ever.
- 6:45They have something called Gem Midnight.
- 6:47And if you go to our eBay page now it's legacy cards with AZ
- 6:51777. You can just click on yet you'll
- 6:55see if you cannot miss eBay live under our under our name.
- 6:59Like you look, look at any of our listings and then you click
- 7:02what we have December 20 or January 29th, sorry.
- 7:06And you'll see it's about 65 cards, but there's a, a Babe
- 7:11Ruth card, a Gaudi Ruth, a 51 Bowman Mantle, 52 Bowman, like
- 7:15some really, really awesome cards that we're putting up for
- 7:20up for sale. eBay kind of incentivized us to to put some
- 7:24nicer cards up there up on their gym midnight.
- 7:27So, you know, we're, we're just, we're just going to try to hit
- 7:30it out of the park this Thursday and and see what happens so.
- 7:36That's awesome and one of the things that Mookie was saying is
- 7:40that when you do your lives you've got all the cards pre
- 7:44scanned and loaded in there so people can get a good picture of
- 7:47it. Sometimes you hear about these
- 7:49stories about what not and stuff and it's like you can't really
- 7:52see the card that great. But he, he was saying, and I
- 7:55haven't seen one of your live. So he's seen two or three of
- 7:58them, I think. And he was saying that you've
- 8:00got the pictures preloaded so people can get a really good
- 8:03look at it. And the length of the auctions
- 8:05are like 1520 seconds and, and it's enough time to look the
- 8:08card over on the scan and stuff. And so they, they were really
- 8:12complimentary about that. I want to circle back to
- 8:15something you just said. You said not many people have
- 8:18the kind of selection that we can bring.
- 8:21I won't. This is one of the things I
- 8:22wanted to ask you about. There are a lot of dealers out
- 8:26there, but there aren't a lot of destination dealers.
- 8:30There aren't a lot of dealers that when people walk in the
- 8:32door, they go, I'm going there first and a lot of people go to
- 8:36your table first and a lot of that is because of the selection
- 8:40that you have. What is the strategy that you've
- 8:43used to be able to to produce continually the kind of
- 8:51selection that you have? Like what do you think is your
- 8:53secret sauce to getting people to sell to you or you just in so
- 8:58many? Like what is the answer to how
- 9:00you keep getting amazing stuff? Well, I'll give you an example.
- 9:05So the Dallas show, which I think you want to talk about,
- 9:09right? Yeah.
- 9:10So the weekend, the Dallas show, I think it was January 12th
- 9:13through 15th, whatever it was, Dalen was in Dallas.
- 9:18Him, JB and Frankie were in Dallas the first couple of days.
- 9:22And then there was a show in New York.
- 9:24And So what I did is I flew to New York and I was in New York
- 9:29and trying to trying to buy cars there.
- 9:31Well, I bought a literally I bought 2, I bought 2.
- 9:36I filled up two slab cases of cards and now granted one of
- 9:41them, probably 3/4 of 1 was a 55 tops set.
- 9:46That was all PSA slab that I, that I had a, a kind of a
- 9:50pre-existing deal and, and we, it came to fruition there.
- 9:54But, but the rest, you, you know, the, the dealer support us
- 9:58well. But at the end of the day,
- 10:00nobody gives you anything. Greg, you, you, you know that I,
- 10:03I, I break bread, right Yet, you know, somebody wants some money
- 10:06and, and guess what they get, they get the, they get the money
- 10:11and, and you know, I try to make it easy too, right.
- 10:13But if I, if I, if I walk up to a dealer and I'm able to pick
- 10:17out a decent amount of cards from them, yeah, I can't buy
- 10:19from all the dealers, but I can buy from some and from the ones
- 10:24that I buy from, we're able to, you know, make deals and, and
- 10:29make things happen pretty, pretty, pretty darn well.
- 10:32And it's just just just great, man.
- 10:35I mean it's. One of the things that I, I was,
- 10:38I think is for one of the your, your kind of secret sauces, if
- 10:43you will. I've got, I'm going to be at the
- 10:47the West Coast Card Show and I'm looking forward to being able to
- 10:50hang out, give you a hug, talk a little bit and be in there.
- 10:53And one of the things is I've got a buddy who's going to go
- 10:57down to the show and he's bringing some stuff to sell.
- 11:00And I'm like, we'll go to Ash 1st.
- 11:03And he's like, well, why you think Ash and I go?
- 11:05Because Ash pays strong. And if you pay strong, you're
- 11:10going to attract the buyers. But the days of guys paying, you
- 11:13know, 6570%, like there are still some dealers that that's
- 11:17what they'll pay. But the guys who see, you know,
- 11:21high quality stuff, they see liquid stuff and they're willing
- 11:25to step up for it and, and do volume and, and make a thinner
- 11:30margin, but, but do better because they're buying good
- 11:34liquid stuff. Like to me, that's the way to
- 11:37go. And, and it seems to me because
- 11:40I mean, I've sold stuff to you before, pretty much all of my
- 11:42friends have sold stuff to you before.
- 11:45And I think it's largely because you pay well.
- 11:48I mean, if somebody, if there was a guy 2 boots down paying
- 11:5310% more than you, they'll be selling there.
- 11:57Tell me about the Dallas show and tell me about was the Dallas
- 12:01show as busy as I heard that the Dallas show was?
- 12:05And if so, was it busy for Pokémon and modern or was it
- 12:08busy for Vintage too? The Dallas show was always a
- 12:12great show. It's I think one of the great
- 12:16things about the Dallas show is that it's got something there
- 12:20for everyone. And and and so it was it's I
- 12:27think if you talk to any deal at the Dallas show, they're going
- 12:29to tell you, hey man, we did. We did great.
- 12:32And and and so. So yeah, would you say it was
- 12:36busier than it has been in years past or is it similar in how
- 12:40busy it was? For me personally, it was a
- 12:46normal Dallas show. Like we always do pretty good at
- 12:49the Dallas show. It was a normal Dallas show.
- 12:52Now, more people there. Yes, there were more people
- 12:55there and I know a lot of dealers that did really well.
- 13:00We we helped a lot of dealers do really well, right, because we
- 13:04bought a insane amount of stuff from the Dallas card show.
- 13:09We bought an insane amount of stuff from the Dallas show.
- 13:11We bought an insane amount of stuff from the from the the the
- 13:16White Wing show. Yeah, exactly.
- 13:20And and so, you know, we just again, just a great show and.
- 13:26Now, let me ask you this because one thing a lot of people are
- 13:29always curious about is like over the last, you know, six
- 13:35months, year, even 2 years, if you look back over the amount of
- 13:40time, there are certain players that are always in demand.
- 13:43I mean, people are always buying Mantle, they're always buying
- 13:46Ruth. You know, they're buying those
- 13:48big names like that, Cobb. But there are some guys that I
- 13:53have to believe you've seen more people ask about and more
- 13:57frequency like who's kind of trending up.
- 14:02And that's a common thing that people ask me is they say, hey,
- 14:07when you talk to dealers, who are they saying like, yeah, all
- 14:11of a sudden it's Rodgers. Hornsby's the guy, you know,
- 14:14he's a guy that I hear people asking for more than others.
- 14:18Or is it pre war more than post war now than it was a year or
- 14:23two ago? Or is it the crackerjack said?
- 14:25Or what are the things that you feel like over the last six
- 14:29months or so you're seeing either move faster or players or
- 14:35there's more people asking about like what's kind of the trend
- 14:38right now in vintage? Because you know, it's like
- 14:40Ohtani, of course, he has a huge season.
- 14:42Judge has a huge season. But with vintage guys, the
- 14:46trends are a little bit harder to see and they're probably a
- 14:48little bit more muted. Is there is there any set or era
- 14:53or player that you feel like his seems to have been moving up
- 14:57recently? I would say in the last let's
- 15:03call it six months, OK, last six months, I mean everything has
- 15:06been moving to be honest with you.
- 15:10Now I appeal is really is really important to people and you
- 15:18could tell by comps how how important it is right and how
- 15:22much people are paying 4 cards that have really good I appeal.
- 15:26I mean, you know, Mike Baker has really stormed the storm the
- 15:32hobby with his NBA gold and silver labels and his I appeal
- 15:37stickers and so forth, right. I mean, if he goes to a show,
- 15:41he's got, he can't sit at his table.
- 15:43He's got to have he, he sits in a in a different room and has
- 15:48his guys bring cards back and forth to him.
- 15:51So that way he can actually sit and focus on what he needs to
- 15:56do. And I'll, I'll be honest with
- 15:58you, Greg, he's really tough. And so I mean, I, I would, I
- 16:03would say the I appeal factor in cards.
- 16:06It has really has just really taken off.
- 16:11I mean, I, I think we all all love cards that look beautiful,
- 16:14right? I mean, remember the cob that
- 16:15you bought for me at the National, the, the red one and
- 16:18how much you, you how beautifully read that was.
- 16:21And and, you know, we could say that about a lot of cards and,
- 16:26you know, the banks, the banks 5 that you bought, right?
- 16:29Phenomenal, phenomenal card. I mean, yeah, you know, you
- 16:32know, so, so I think we all love awesome cards.
- 16:35And I think now just more people getting into the hobby are
- 16:40learning about I appeal and paying a little more, paying
- 16:44more for I appeal. But you know, honestly, man,
- 16:48people are buying, especially Greg with me being on eBay.
- 16:53It's a whole different world, right?
- 16:55A lot of people like to complain about eBay.
- 16:57And sure, I mean, look, you run a billion dollar company, you're
- 17:00going to have some screw ups. I mean, it just is what it is.
- 17:04But they they bring such a diverse amount of collectors to
- 17:11your inventory and all kinds of things sell stuff that, you
- 17:18know, I could have sitting at a show for months sells on eBay
- 17:21quickly and get, you know, and this is just to experience,
- 17:25right? We've just started our eBay
- 17:27experience in the month of December.
- 17:31So people are buying tobacco cards.
- 17:33People are buying, like you said, Cracker Jacks.
- 17:35I mean, they look, people love the Cracker Jack set, the 48
- 17:40leaf short prints, right? Those have really gotten a lot
- 17:45of you know, people are collecting that set and they
- 17:49want higher grades and and so forth.
- 17:51But you know, I I think just anything that is a rarity and
- 17:56and good stuff is is is just in demand.
- 18:00Joe Jackson cards. I mean he he doesn't have any
- 18:03cards, right. And so through his, through him,
- 18:07you know, hopefully being elected to the Hall of Fame,
- 18:10right, or being eligible to be elected to the Hall of Fame.
- 18:13Well, people like, oh, Joe Jackson, I got to get my Joe
- 18:16Jackson's, I got to get my Joe Jackson's and there's not, but
- 18:18so many to have. And then there's not, but so
- 18:20many that are affordable, right? So, so it's, it's, it's, it's
- 18:25tough to have a, you know, to say you have a Joe Jackson card
- 18:28in your collection means you probably have a pretty valuable
- 18:31card. And and so.
- 18:35So yeah. So let me ask you the the I
- 18:38appeal thing like there's no doubt that there's a premium and
- 18:42there's no doubt that it when it when there's a Mike Baker
- 18:45sticker on there, it draws a lot.
- 18:48How much has that changed how you comp cards?
- 18:52I mean, because at one point it was like a three is a three.
- 18:57This is a high end 3. This is a maybe a lower end 3,
- 19:00but it's still a fairly tight range.
- 19:03Like when you're not just when you're selling, but when you're
- 19:06buying, how far out of that range does a high I appeal card
- 19:14take? It does does 3 sell for a normal
- 19:184? Now if it's a really high or if
- 19:20it has the I appeal or doesn't even touch a a file, like how
- 19:24much does it go up 10/20/30 percent, 50% like when you're
- 19:29selling, but also when you're buying when somebody brings a
- 19:32card to your table and it's like this is a stunning 4.
- 19:36Like like how does it affect what you pay and how does it
- 19:40affect what you price it at? Yeah, it's a it's a good
- 19:45question. And a lot of times, Greg,
- 19:47sometimes you got to let stuff go because people want too much
- 19:50money. I'll I'll give you an example
- 19:52though. I bought a 52 Eddie Matthews ESA
- 19:561 and I I paid the guy 4000 bucks for it, right.
- 20:02It was a fresh grade, really, really nice one.
- 20:07And I don't know, I, I just said, hey, did this car doesn't
- 20:10look like a one. It looks like a.
- 20:13It looks like a four or five right now.
- 20:16It had a wrinkle down the middle, but yeah.
- 20:17And you can only see it if you turned it to an angle.
- 20:20And and so when you have things like that, you know, you just
- 20:24pay up for the card. I mean, you know, there was a
- 20:27Dandy Mantle 1.5 that I had and I paid, I paid the money that a
- 20:35three would cost for that 1.5. Guess how long it lasted?
- 20:40Not even 1 show. Yeah.
- 20:42And, and, and so, so you know, it's, it's just, sometimes you
- 20:48just got to go with your gut. A lot of times when I get really
- 20:52high, I appeal cards because, you know, it's, it's hard to
- 20:56justify it with your brain that, Oh my gosh, this George Miken
- 21:01card in a 5 is a $12,000 card. But this one, this one that's
- 21:06perfectly centered with a Mike Baker gold label is, is worth 30
- 21:13grand. Well, how do you mentally
- 21:15justify that? You don't, but you drop that
- 21:18sucker in Heritage or you drop it at, you know, one of these
- 21:23other auction houses that charge, you know, whatever they
- 21:27charge, you know, Heritage charges X percent, Rea charges Y
- 21:31percent, etcetera, etcetera, right.
- 21:33The auction houses, there's a reason why they charge that
- 21:37because they get the bidders that don't come to the shows.
- 21:41They get the bidders and the eyes that, that don't come.
- 21:43And guess what? Those guys click buttons and,
- 21:47and so I'll the, the Miken is an example, right?
- 21:50I, I have the George Miken card and I gave it to, gave it to
- 21:54heritage because I, I, I didn't, I don't think anybody's going to
- 21:59pay me what I want for that card.
- 22:00But, but I, but, but I think Heritage is going to get the
- 22:03eyes that deserve to see that card.
- 22:06I mean, they sold A6 for $50,000, right?
- 22:09There's no way you can logically look at a six and be like, oh,
- 22:13you know what? The last 6 sold for 15.
- 22:16I'm going to pay 50. I'm going to pay 40.
- 22:18Well, it doesn't even make sense.
- 22:20But guess what? When you see that stupid cop out
- 22:22there that somebody paid it, it's like, oh, or you know what?
- 22:26Somebody might pay it now. Then again, somebody might.
- 22:29I've been wrong about this stuff too, and stuff is done short
- 22:32money. It's just, you know, some
- 22:34sometimes, man, it's just the roll of the dice and you just
- 22:38take a shot and see what happens.
- 22:40Is that what you do when there's a card that you just say, man,
- 22:44it's it's worth more? Like, I mean, so take that mic
- 22:48in. Like if you put that price tag
- 22:51on it and you put it in your case, people are going to look
- 22:54at it and go come on. But if you put it up in in a
- 22:57heritage auction, it'll probably get the number that you think.
- 23:01Is that what you do with the cards that are clearly better
- 23:07and are going to sell for way more is instead of sticking them
- 23:10in the case, you put them up for auction?
- 23:11Because that seems like a really, I mean, people are weird
- 23:16about that. Like they see a card in your
- 23:17case and they go, dude, that's double comps and you're like,
- 23:20dude, it's it's worth every penny of it.
- 23:24How do how do you is that basically the deal is those are
- 23:27the cards you put up for auction?
- 23:30I put them in my case, right? But but I I also mentally know
- 23:35that you know what? I get the eyes, I get people to
- 23:37look. I don't want to hang one of the
- 23:39cards for forever. And, and so I'll give stuff a
- 23:43shot. But also if, if I know I'm
- 23:46overpaying for a card and it's going to take a certain buyer
- 23:51for this specific card, especially a higher end card,
- 23:54lower end card, you know, a card that's 3456000, maybe a little
- 23:59bit different, maybe I'll hang on to it longer.
- 24:01But you know, if comps on the card are 3000 and I'm asking
- 24:04seven, well, I'm asking 7 for a reason, right?
- 24:08Because I think it's, I think it's worth that or close to that
- 24:11or whatever the case. And, and so you may not agree,
- 24:15Mike Petty may not agree, but guess what?
- 24:18Tony might agree and say, you know what, I want that card.
- 24:22I've been looking for that card that looks like that within this
- 24:26price range. I know if I get a five that
- 24:29looks like that, it's going to cost me 3X.
- 24:32So I'll buy your three and I'll gladly overpay for your three,
- 24:36quote UN quote overpay for your three because I'm getting the
- 24:39card that I want. And, and you know, so, you know,
- 24:45it's not a perfect science, Greg, if it was a perfect
- 24:47science, then you know, whatever.
- 24:50But, but, but you know, I, I like, I, I don't know, I, I, I
- 24:55live and breathe this stuff. So, so I, I know what happens at
- 24:59the show. Guess what?
- 25:01I know what happens online. Why do I know what happens
- 25:03online? Because I clicked those buttons
- 25:05and, and so when, when cards are going off and when golden just
- 25:09sold the 52 mantle PSA one for $44,000, which doesn't even make
- 25:17any sense, right? I know that's a real sale
- 25:21because guess who was the underbidder?
- 25:24I'm guessing. I was, I was right.
- 25:26I, I, I, I did. I put a, a bid in that I thought
- 25:30was too high, but I wanted the card and it wasn't the best 11,
- 25:34but it was a good one. And in my opinion and I, I saw
- 25:38value in it and I said, Hey, I'm going to put my bid up to here.
- 25:41And you know, guess what? I, I, I help the market out with
- 25:45that card and you know, so I'll pay really strong on some stuff.
- 25:50And, but, you know, I think that's the thing about us is we
- 25:54have such a variety of outlets for our cards that that
- 26:00sometimes I could pay pretty aggressively.
- 26:03But there's other things that we do, whether it be a break,
- 26:05whether it be eBay, whether it be Facebook, whether it be, you
- 26:09know, a show, There's just, and, and so that's why, and to your
- 26:15point, that's why we have such a wide variety of cards because we
- 26:20have a wide variety of platforms that we show the cards at.
- 26:26And so people see it. People see it and you know,
- 26:30people collect different things and like different things.
- 26:34It's, it's so interesting to hear you say some of this and,
- 26:37and I know that your network of dealer friends and, and who
- 26:42you've kind of rubbed off on at times.
- 26:46Like I know Garrett ballpark memories that he was kind of
- 26:49your protege for a little while and he was kind of working with
- 26:52you and, and he's a super smart guy and seen and I know you guys
- 26:57still do a lot of deals together.
- 26:58He was just talking on his podcast the other day about some
- 27:01deals that you did, I think at the Dallas show, maybe even and,
- 27:06and, and it's interesting because like I see Garrett and,
- 27:10and he's, you know, he, he vlogs himself at shows buying stuff
- 27:15and you kind of see what he's paying.
- 27:17And there are times where you're like, he's paying pretty strong.
- 27:21He's paying, he's paying like comp, but it's because he sees
- 27:26that card is worth way more than comp because it's a 59 Gibson
- 27:31that's never centered and it's perfectly centered.
- 27:34And so he can, he can, you know, raise the price above it because
- 27:37he knows from his experience. And it's fun to see some of your
- 27:41fingerprints. You know, it's like the, the
- 27:43family tree of like, you know, Saban and stuff where you know,
- 27:47there's, there's some of that, that you can tell you there's
- 27:50some fingerprints, some ash fingerprints out there and, and
- 27:52like what Garrett's doing and stuff.
- 27:54And that's pretty cool. I have one last question.
- 27:57We're at 30 minutes. This has been, as always, this
- 28:01is a lot of fun. A lot of talk has been about how
- 28:04hot the Pokémon market is, and I know that the Dallas show has a
- 28:10good amount of Pokémon and a lot of us sports card guys have
- 28:15opinions about Pokémon and oh, it's, you know, it's taking away
- 28:19tables is taken away with this making things more crowded.
- 28:23Whatever. My question for you is from your
- 28:26perspective as a vintage dealer as really like the premier
- 28:30vintage dealer in the country is, is Pokémon?
- 28:36In your opinion, is Pokémon good or bad for sports cards?
- 28:42I think it's good for sports cards because guess what?
- 28:44The 6789101112 year old that buys the Pokémon?
- 28:51He's got a parent and their parent, maybe, maybe, maybe they
- 28:57get into doing Pokémon together. Maybe they don't.
- 29:00Maybe they go to a show and dad goes to buy baseball cards and
- 29:04basketball cards and football cards and little little Johnny
- 29:08goes and buys his Pokémon. And like, it's a hobby, man.
- 29:13It's supposed to be fun. And like, if you can't bring
- 29:16your kid to a show and have a good time, then that's like,
- 29:21that sucks, right? Like you, you know, because life
- 29:23is all about like we want to, we want to nurture and take care of
- 29:26our kids. And if your kid likes Pokémon,
- 29:30then good, good for good for him, man, go get a Charizard or
- 29:34whatever, whatever it is Like I, I'm Dalen likes Pokémon, right?
- 29:39I don't know nothing. I don't, I, I, I know Charizard
- 29:42and I know what, I know how to look up comps, right, whatever.
- 29:45But I don't, I don't really deal with Pokémon.
- 29:48And if I buy a Pokémon card, I try to get rid of it ASAP.
- 29:53And you know, but he genuinely likes this stuff.
- 29:58Like he really likes it. And so, you know, good for him.
- 30:02I mean, it's what he grew up on, right.
- 30:04So just like we grew up on 89 upper deck Griffey's, guess
- 30:08what? Dalen's 22 years old.
- 30:10He grew up ripping Pokémon packs.
- 30:13He grew up playing Pokémon. And you know, I think, I don't
- 30:17think it's a bad thing if I opened up a card shop, OK, we've
- 30:21had this conversation. I'd love to open up a card shop,
- 30:24but like, I don't want to open it.
- 30:26Like it's just like, it's just a lot, man, to do a card shop.
- 30:29So, you know, because then you got to understand Pokémon, then
- 30:33you got to understand all the modern stuff.
- 30:37And it's just a whole different world of collector, whole
- 30:42different world of people. And it's just not what I'm
- 30:45really into. And so like, I don't know if my
- 30:49son ends up doing it one day, good for him.
- 30:52It's not what I want to do. Although I, I like, I gently
- 30:57thought about it because like, also I thought, hey man, Pokémon
- 31:00would be really good for my community, right?
- 31:03Because the kids would have somewhere to go.
- 31:05They'd have to be able to go to the local card shop, mom and dad
- 31:08be able to come and whatever, buy the cards and, you know,
- 31:11you'd be able to get in touch with the community.
- 31:13So I, I think it's just, it's, it's how you look at it.
- 31:16Pokémon is not a bad thing. It's just a different thing.
- 31:20And, but, but guess what? It's all about collecting.
- 31:23And they like their, they like to open their Pokemons and put
- 31:26them in the little sleeves, just like we did with our 8384858687
- 31:32tops. We did the same thing, but just
- 31:35with baseball cards. OK.
- 31:36They got weird pictures on them and we don't get it.
- 31:38So what life goes on, right? Like it, it, it, it's OK.
- 31:42Like I think it's good that they're collecting something and
- 31:46that they like something and they want to do it.
- 31:48That's and, and if that takes dad into the show with them to
- 31:52look at some Pokémon and and dad gets, gets, gets the Jones back
- 31:56to buy baseball cards as many of us have, right that you talk,
- 32:02you talk you, you asked me earlier and I never answered.
- 32:05Why do I like to do eBay live? Because like I'm, I'm selling
- 32:08$100 cards, like, you know, so it's not what what I really do,
- 32:13but man, it's fun, right? It's just fun to talk baseball
- 32:17cards, to talk shop, to see people from all over the country
- 32:21ask us questions and stuff like that.
- 32:24And just to just to screw around baseball cards for a little bit
- 32:28and it not be so serious. Like, you know, we make a couple
- 32:32bucks. I mean, we don't, you know, I
- 32:34mean, it is what it is, right? We make a couple bucks, but it's
- 32:36it's like, you know, it's not life changing money, but it's
- 32:40fun. It's fun to auction off some
- 32:42cards. It's fun to talk about a 73
- 32:45Clemente and APSA 6 right? Cool card, 607080 dollar card.
- 32:50And you get to talk about Clemente for a little bit or
- 32:53somebody in the chat talks about Clemente and or you learn
- 32:56something new. So many people, Greg, have so
- 32:59much baseball knowledge. It's just insanity, right?
- 33:03We were talking last night about Willie Mays's last card.
- 33:06Greg, when's What is Willie Mays's last Tops card?
- 33:10Oh boy, you're putting me on the spot.
- 33:12It's going to be like, it's 70. It's 72, isn't it?
- 33:17Is it 72? So he had a regular card in 73.
- 33:21Tops. No 7373 is in the Mets uniform,
- 33:24right? I think it's 70. 3 So he had a
- 33:2773 TOPS card card. I think it's #660 if I'm not
- 33:31mistaken, I don't remember the exact card number, he had a 73
- 33:34TOPS card. But then somebody in the chat
- 33:37was like, oh, he's got a 74 World Series card with the Mets.
- 33:43And so that is his last tops card is the the 74 tops card now
- 33:49I think 75, you might have those MVP cards and stuff like that.
- 33:53We don't really count that. But but that was something that
- 33:56yet, you know, like I said, this guy had a wealth of knowledge
- 33:59and he was like, Hey, you, you know, it's it's this is the
- 34:02card. So it's just fun, man.
- 34:04Like, you know, if you man, if you can't have fun doing this
- 34:07like me and you talking right now, it is fun.
- 34:10I'm not like the only reason I'm here is because, like, you're
- 34:15cool and it's fun to it's fun to talk with you and people.
- 34:19People like when we get together and talk about the hobby, well,
- 34:23that, that, that praise God, that's a great thing that we're
- 34:27able to bring to the community just with me.
- 34:30And you would talk like this if we weren't doing a podcast.
- 34:33Yeah. You know, you may ask.
- 34:36Me some questions or tell. Right.
- 34:38Like it's just, you know, we're just living and and so to be
- 34:42able to do that and and to talk about something you enjoy, you
- 34:48know, is, is a good thing. There's so many bad things we
- 34:51could do with our time. Guess what?
- 34:54Look, you're, you're calling me from your man cave.
- 34:56You got your headphone going. And like, you know, we're just
- 34:59talking baseball cards. Like, yeah, you know, life could
- 35:02be way, way, way, way worse. And and, and so it's, it just
- 35:07brings, brings joy and enjoyment to something that we already
- 35:12love. So well said my friend.
- 35:16I'm looking forward to it. We're we're about what, 3 weeks
- 35:19away from getting to see each other.
- 35:21I'm looking forward to checking out your inventory, seeing what
- 35:24you got and hanging out a little bit there down in Ontario, CA.
- 35:30So we'll do this again. Again, my goal is at least one a
- 35:35month. If not, you know, 1 1/2, two a
- 35:37month. I know that there are times
- 35:38where you're busier than others and same with me, but this is a
- 35:42lot of fun for me. I, I was talking with a buddy
- 35:45last night on the phone for about 45 minutes and I said,
- 35:48man, this would have been a great episode.
- 35:49We should have just recorded this and that's basically what
- 35:52we just did. So everybody out there
- 35:55listening, appreciate it. Again, this is Ash
- 35:59legacycards.net cards with AZ at the end of it.
- 36:04He does his eBay lives, which I've heard great things about.
- 36:08He'll be at the Ontario show. Any shows between now and
- 36:11Ontario that you'll be at? We're going to Tristar in
- 36:15Houston this weekend as well. Yeah, we always check that out.
- 36:18I get to hang out with my buddy Kevin and and so so just good
- 36:23man get to get to enjoy, enjoy that show.
- 36:26They always have great autographed guests and stuff
- 36:29there and so. Yeah, they have great
- 36:32autographed guests at that show. Tristar is great with that.
- 36:35Yeah. All right, buddy.
- 36:37Well, thank you. We'll talk soon.
- 36:39Again, if there's something you want to hear us talk about, hear
- 36:43Ash's opinion on, put it in the comments.
- 36:45I'll check those out and bring them to the next one.
- 36:49All right, Greg, good talking. All right, buddy.
- 36:51Bye.
