- 0:00Speaker 1: So my name is Rock.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I'm a vocalist for the band called Within Destruction.
- 0:05Speaker 1: We're based in Slovenia.
- 0:07Speaker 2: And right now we are releasing our brand new album
- 0:11Speaker 2: called Ani Metal.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's going to be released on April eleventh.
- 0:16Speaker 2: And yeah, we're actually heading out on tour to promote
- 0:21Speaker 2: the album and we're stopping in Australia as well. We're
- 0:24Speaker 2: doing three dates on the East Coast.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Fantastic Rock.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us tonight, Yeah, thank you for having me.
- 0:33Speaker 4: No, right, so we'll start off on the album first, right, Like,
- 0:36Speaker 4: Within Destructions are unleashing your sixth studio album, Animetal on
- 0:39Speaker 4: April eleventh. As you say, so, how you feel and
- 0:42Speaker 4: getting this close to it is? Is it nervousness? Is
- 0:44Speaker 4: it excitement? Is it anxiety?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 0:48Speaker 2: I think it's a bit some business of everything. You know,
- 0:52Speaker 2: we're really obviously excited to release the new album and
- 0:57Speaker 2: we've obviously been working really hard on it, so, you know,
- 1:00Speaker 2: finally ripping the.
- 1:03Speaker 1: What we've sown for the past couple of years.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So that's going to be really exciting, but obviously a
- 1:09Speaker 2: little bit of nervousness as well, because it's a bit
- 1:12Speaker 2: of uh, we're straying a bit away from our older
- 1:16Speaker 2: sound to the newer sounds. So we're a bit anxious
- 1:20Speaker 2: to see how what the reception is going to be like. Uh,
- 1:25Speaker 2: And it's also a bit of a challenge because we
- 1:28Speaker 2: you know, with a newer sound, it's also an adjustment
- 1:32Speaker 2: to how to translate that to live performances and on stage.
- 1:38Speaker 2: But in the end, it's it's all exciting, you know.
- 1:40Speaker 2: It's I feel like if you're always in your comfort zone,
- 1:45Speaker 2: there's no room for growing. So obviously setting challenges for
- 1:50Speaker 2: us ourselves is a good thing to grow as musicians
- 1:56Speaker 2: and as persons or people as well.
- 2:00Speaker 4: You mentioned a new us am I, So can you
- 2:02Speaker 4: tell us be more about Any Metal from a musical
- 2:04Speaker 4: point of view and what you're actually going for it?
- 2:08Speaker 1: Right?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, So obviously if you listen to our older records
- 2:12Speaker 2: and if you listen to Animate Any Metal, there's quite
- 2:17Speaker 2: a bit of sound difference. And the reason why that
- 2:22Speaker 2: is the case is because we've decided to kind of
- 2:27Speaker 2: a stray our own path, to kind of set ourselves
- 2:32Speaker 2: away from the industry, not only through the sound, but
- 2:36Speaker 2: also visually through artwork, through music videos, us as band
- 2:42Speaker 2: members as well. So anytime someone would listen to our
- 2:47Speaker 2: song or see our album or something like that, they
- 2:50Speaker 2: would immediately know, oh, I know this is within this struction.
- 2:54Speaker 2: You know, they wouldn't be have to, Oh, what's this?
- 2:57Speaker 2: This kind of sounds interesting, let's look it up. We
- 2:59Speaker 2: kind of wanted to, I guess, build our own brand
- 3:03Speaker 2: in a way.
- 3:05Speaker 4: So today you released a single cyber Girl and Intemplate.
- 3:07Speaker 4: So are they a good sonic representation of the rest
- 3:10Speaker 4: of the album or they just fecial the surface.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I would say they're a good representation, but they're not
- 3:18Speaker 2: the whole thing, So it's it's one side of it.
- 3:21Speaker 2: But there are songs on the album that sound nothing
- 3:26Speaker 2: like them as well.
- 3:27Speaker 1: So yeah, the.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Cover fits in with the title also with an anime
- 3:33Speaker 4: pieces of featured image. So is that a conceptual theme
- 3:36Speaker 4: around anime on the album? Was it just a cool
- 3:38Speaker 4: way to try in the cover in the title.
- 3:44Speaker 1: A little bit of both.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I'd say with this album, we've tried to pour our
- 3:49Speaker 2: own personal interests into the music, but not only the music,
- 3:54Speaker 2: the music videos and everything as well. And I personally
- 3:59Speaker 2: am a cute anime fan and enthusiasts, So obviously the
- 4:04Speaker 2: name originated from anime, anime, and metal, you know, put
- 4:09Speaker 2: those things together. It's animetal And we're also doing a
- 4:14Speaker 2: manga which will be available with the release of the album,
- 4:17Speaker 2: so that's also part of my interest. But the other
- 4:21Speaker 2: band members are They also pour their own personal like
- 4:26Speaker 2: stuff into it. For example, our drummer is really into cars,
- 4:31Speaker 2: so the music video for the song called Demon Child
- 4:36Speaker 2: is a lot is basically oriented around cars and stuff
- 4:41Speaker 2: like that. So yeah, it's bits and pieces of everyone's
- 4:43Speaker 2: interests into the into the album. Yeah, so that's where
- 4:48Speaker 2: all of this kind of the creative energy comes from.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I sort of touch on this a little bit eli
- 4:55Speaker 3: by it.
- 4:55Speaker 4: But the pressure release refers to your ability to innovate
- 4:58Speaker 4: and push boundaries with your music. So is that something
- 5:02Speaker 4: you're conscious of you sit down and plan it out
- 5:05Speaker 4: in an album cycle, say this is what we're going
- 5:07Speaker 4: to try and govern this direction or is it more
- 5:09Speaker 4: show and experimentation in the creative process.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I feel like it's more trial and experimentation.
- 5:16Speaker 2: We don't really set a specific goal we want to achieve.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Usually how our creative process works is that our guitarists
- 5:26Speaker 2: will kind of write a demo song with all the guitars,
- 5:31Speaker 2: all the production and the drums and everything, and he
- 5:36Speaker 2: will then send that song to us, so me and
- 5:40Speaker 2: our drummer, and then we'll just balance the song back
- 5:43Speaker 2: and forth with ideas. You know, what if we put
- 5:47Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe some scenes over there, What if
- 5:49Speaker 2: we put this effect over here, What if we put
- 5:52Speaker 2: some I don't know, pop elements electronic elements over there there.
- 5:57Speaker 1: So it's basically just.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Trial and error until we feel like, oh this fits,
- 6:01Speaker 2: this doesn't fit, And once we go through this cycle
- 6:06Speaker 2: a few times and we feel like, okay, this sounds
- 6:09Speaker 2: like a finished product. Yeah, it's just the goes through
- 6:13Speaker 2: this cycles as as long as or until we find
- 6:19Speaker 2: the version that we're all happy with it.
- 6:21Speaker 4: That that would be pretty difficult to you, like, how
- 6:23Speaker 4: would you how do you set the limits? So how
- 6:25Speaker 4: do you know if you're going too far with your
- 6:28Speaker 4: experimentalization or actually not far enough, like if you got
- 6:32Speaker 4: certain guidelines or.
- 6:33Speaker 1: As well by year, mostly by ear.
- 6:37Speaker 2: But we're also fortunate enough to have a producer in
- 6:41Speaker 2: Italy who's kind of like our let's say, unbiased objective.
- 6:49Speaker 2: He gives us some bi a subjective feedback. So yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 2: we all basically create a song and then we also
- 6:56Speaker 2: bounce it with him and he will put his inputs
- 7:00Speaker 2: what he thinks of the song as well, and that
- 7:02Speaker 2: we really value that and I feel like maybe that's
- 7:06Speaker 2: kind of like our gosh. I guess that he gives
- 7:11Speaker 2: us a realistic opinion, and yeah, I feel like.
- 7:16Speaker 1: That that that's how that works.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Across your albums.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Might like you started off more with Death Course or
- 7:24Speaker 4: the band, then you develop into what you hated. I
- 7:26Speaker 4: wouldize sixth albums so one noise mind. How much musical
- 7:30Speaker 4: growth do you think? But in destructions got left in here.
- 7:33Speaker 2: I think there's no boundaries, to be honest, because we
- 7:39Speaker 2: always try to there's no not a premeditated sound. We're
- 7:47Speaker 2: always trying to.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Go for.
- 7:51Speaker 2: It's like with every album cycle, we just, I don't know,
- 7:54Speaker 2: sit down and just talk about what we feel like
- 7:58Speaker 2: writing at that point, and if you know, if it's
- 8:01Speaker 2: something completely out there, we'll we'll just go for it.
- 8:05Speaker 2: We just don't set any limits for us, but it
- 8:09Speaker 2: has to be something that we're all comfortable with and
- 8:12Speaker 2: that we're all wide with. It's not oh, let's just
- 8:16Speaker 2: push it to the limits, you know, without we have
- 8:21Speaker 2: to enjoy it as well, so it's it's not like
- 8:23Speaker 2: just pushing the limits for the sake of pushing the limits.
- 8:28Speaker 4: And you also have a headlining tour of Australia coming
- 8:30Speaker 4: up which starts in Melbourne eye for the third then
- 8:33Speaker 4: you hit Sitting in Bridge private consecutive night, so that's
- 8:36Speaker 4: not far away, all bro, You packed it ready to go?
- 8:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, we're we're.
- 8:42Speaker 2: All rehearsing and yeah, making preparations to make sure that
- 8:49Speaker 2: tool tour goes as smoothly as possible. We've just uh yeah,
- 8:54Speaker 2: we've actually returned home two weeks ago from our US tour,
- 8:58Speaker 2: so we're all still a bit than jet legged, but
- 9:01Speaker 2: we're working hard on uh yeah, on our Australian tour preparations.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So everything is in motion at the moment.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Wait. So, but as they don't know too much about
- 9:13Speaker 4: With in Destruction teal, what do we expect from your
- 9:15Speaker 4: live show runners through a typical With in Destruction live set?
- 9:20Speaker 2: So for this through specifically, it's gonna be I want
- 9:24Speaker 2: to say, mixed back or a melting pot. Because we
- 9:28Speaker 2: know we have a lot of fans who really like
- 9:31Speaker 2: our old music, and we also have fans that really
- 9:34Speaker 2: like our new music, and then we have all the
- 9:37Speaker 2: people in between who like basically everything. And since we're
- 9:42Speaker 2: doing this huge headlining set, we have more available time
- 9:47Speaker 2: to play all the songs from our older records, from
- 9:53Speaker 2: you know, the records in between, and also from our
- 9:56Speaker 2: new albums. So and everyone can expect. I feel like
- 10:00Speaker 2: everyone will get at least something that they enjoy from
- 10:04Speaker 2: within Destruction, whether that's old music, whether that's new music,
- 10:07Speaker 2: or if you like everything, then you're you know, you
- 10:11Speaker 2: get the best of both worlds.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Respect before about how it sounds progressed from the death
- 10:17Speaker 4: chor ando what you hear today and then the newest
- 10:20Speaker 4: sound again on the next album. So how difficult is
- 10:22Speaker 4: it to get your set list sort of flowing in
- 10:24Speaker 4: cohesive jumping from Jonas over the years.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it's definitely a bit of a challenge, but we
- 10:33Speaker 2: kind of we try to transition through in between songs with.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Kind of like.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I really don't have can't remember a good word for it,
- 10:50Speaker 2: but I guess it's kind of like an intermezzo, like samples,
- 10:55Speaker 2: things that kind of like gives a bit of a breather,
- 10:59Speaker 2: you know. If there's a heavy song, we live a
- 11:02Speaker 2: little bit of room, so it kind of comes down
- 11:05Speaker 2: and then we transition to maybe a softer or a
- 11:08Speaker 2: newer song, and vice versa. So it's not like, you
- 11:11Speaker 2: know this inconclusive setlist.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I guess.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Before we let you go, mate, have you started up
- 11:20Speaker 4: a new segment called photo Bombs. So basically before we
- 11:23Speaker 4: speak you, I troll through your social media and I
- 11:25Speaker 4: come up with a few photos that I want to
- 11:27Speaker 4: ask a bit more about. So the first one I've
- 11:30Speaker 4: got is this one man, like, what's your standing up
- 11:36Speaker 4: on stage and you see that starting to form in
- 11:37Speaker 4: the pit, what's the first thing that goes through your mind?
- 11:41Speaker 2: Oh, it's just like crazy insanity. That's That's basically probably
- 11:47Speaker 2: one of my favorite things as an artist or as
- 11:49Speaker 2: a musician is just standing on stage and seeing people
- 11:53Speaker 2: enjoying the music we're playing. You know, the energy exchange
- 11:58Speaker 2: from the audience to the stage is one.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Of the best feelings in the world.
- 12:03Speaker 2: So yeah, even if I'm feeling like really bad that day,
- 12:07Speaker 2: if I step on stage and I see the crowd
- 12:10Speaker 2: reaction like this, it's It's just makes my whole day
- 12:14Speaker 2: one hundred percent better.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Nice.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Then sometimes bright this happens and you get out of
- 12:22Speaker 4: the hair and get in amongst it.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's that's also one of
- 12:28Speaker 2: the best things ever. But with these kind of things,
- 12:31Speaker 2: you need to be a bit more careful. So I
- 12:34Speaker 2: always kind of like, uh, check or see how the
- 12:43Speaker 2: crowd is vibing with the show, because if they're just
- 12:47Speaker 2: you know, standing there and enjoying, not really moving around,
- 12:52Speaker 2: I usually won't go for a crowd surf because you know,
- 12:55Speaker 2: who wants to see someone jumping in their face when
- 12:58Speaker 2: they're just standing there and watching. But if I see
- 13:01Speaker 2: them really being really energetic, and especially if there are
- 13:05Speaker 2: a lot of guys who I feel like can handle
- 13:08Speaker 2: me jumping into the crowd in front of them, then
- 13:11Speaker 2: I'll definitely go for that one. And it's it's a
- 13:13Speaker 2: super nice feeling, and I feel like people enjoy seeing
- 13:18Speaker 2: that as well, whether they're carrying me around or standing
- 13:21Speaker 2: on the side of the venue just watching this crazy
- 13:26Speaker 2: person jumping into the crowd and screaming into a microphone.
- 13:30Speaker 2: I feel like it's a sight to be seen.
- 13:33Speaker 3: I never go on pay shape, but I didn't catch
- 13:35Speaker 3: it or something.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Like that, luckily, no, But there have been a couple
- 13:40Speaker 2: of shows where they would carry me for I don't
- 13:44Speaker 2: know a few seconds and then they would drop me.
- 13:46Speaker 2: But luckily I'm I feel like like I'm a cat.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I always land on my feet, so no injury is
- 13:54Speaker 2: there so far.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Thankfully for join.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Us dry the album Any Metal is that I put eleventh.
- 14:00Speaker 4: The Australian tour keeps off in Melbourne on April third,
- 14:03Speaker 4: so there's heat's coming at You're from within destruction, so
- 14:05Speaker 4: get amongst
- 14:06Speaker 1: It, Allieah, thank you so much for having me
