- 0:27Hey, good morning from the chicken coop everybody.
- 0:30So today I want to talk to you about time and a specific angle
- 0:34on time. Today the Buddha is quoted as
- 0:38having said. The problem is you think you
- 0:40have time. Such a hard phrase to hear,
- 0:43right. The problem is you think you
- 0:45have time. And in the big scheme of things,
- 0:49we all believe we have time to do the things we want to do.
- 0:52We all believe that we are going to have the time to take the
- 0:55vacation by the RV, go on the trip, write the book, you know,
- 1:01have the kids, get the dog, do whatever it is that we might
- 1:04want to do. But really, do we have time.
- 1:08And the question that this is a very big question for you to
- 1:13contemplate today is all really it comes down to what are you
- 1:18putting your focus on? And if something is truly
- 1:21important to you, are you making the time in your life for it?
- 1:25Because none of us are here for a guaranteed amount of time.
- 1:29None of, none of us know when our expiration date is.
- 1:32Even those that have been told they have an expiration date
- 1:35don't necessarily know if that's true.
- 1:37And it doesn't mean that it will be true just because another
- 1:39human says it does not make it true.
- 1:42And we get very hung up on the fact that we we'll put things
- 1:47off and put things off and put things off because we are
- 1:50dealing with minutiae. We are dealing with things that
- 1:52are, you know, everyday stuff like doing laundry and cleaning
- 1:58and, you know, taking care of paying bills and doing all the
- 2:02crazy stuff that humans have to do in our daily lives to quote
- 2:07UN quote, survive. And those things end up eating
- 2:10us up and they take up our mental space.
- 2:12They take up our capacity and put us in a place of just mostly
- 2:18overwhelmed because there's so many of those menial tasks
- 2:21around us all the time that we forget about the stuff that is
- 2:25on maybe the bucket list, maybe it you call it the bucket list,
- 2:28maybe you don't. I don't have a bucket list, but
- 2:30I I have definitely, I have a list of things that will be done
- 2:36in my lifetime and planning them all out.
- 2:40And the challenge we have is we think we have time and we put
- 2:44them off and we say well I'll get to that next year or I will
- 2:48get to that in a five years. And we we put things on a
- 2:52spectrum, assuming we will have all this time.
- 2:56And the reality is we don't. We don't have all this time.
- 3:00Life goes by very quickly. Anybody who has gone from the
- 3:05age of 25 to 50 understands how quickly life goes by.
- 3:10That feels that span of time in in digits seems like a long
- 3:15time. But the truth is it goes by in a
- 3:18heartbeat. It goes by when you see it.
- 3:21You know, you're all of a sudden your kids that you had when you
- 3:24were in your 20s are now in their 20s.
- 3:26And you're going, holy cow, how did this happen?
- 3:29And you're being presented with the fact that they're having
- 3:32children and you're going to be a grandparent.
- 3:34And you're like, how can I be a grandparent?
- 3:36I still feel like I'm a kid. And there's this shock in you
- 3:40that said, Oh my gosh. And even if you're not, think
- 3:44about the time, even if you're young and you're listen to this,
- 3:46think about the time you were in high school to now that you're
- 3:48in your 20s, that is a chunk of time.
- 3:51And it feels like it went by just in a snap of a finger.
- 3:55So this, this concept of time that we have, it screws with us
- 4:00and it makes us think, Oh yeah, I'll get to it, I'll get to it,
- 4:03I'll get to it. But the reason I wanted to have
- 4:06this conversation with you today is the exact reason why I I'm
- 4:10out here in the chicken coop recording.
- 4:12Because I had put this off and put this off and put this off
- 4:16and I ran into this quote in one of my books.
- 4:20I have it written down multiple times throughout my journals, my
- 4:23notebooks, everything. The problem is you think you
- 4:26have time. The problem is you think you
- 4:27have time. And I've always been heavily
- 4:30moved by the quote. Over the years I've done things,
- 4:33I've taken trips, I've, I've jumped into jobs and done stuff
- 4:38that people thought were absolutely insane, going to work
- 4:41for Tony Robbins and giving up advertising and everything else.
- 4:44Everyone thought, what are you doing?
- 4:46It was based around this. The problem is you think you
- 4:49have time because I lost my dad when he was 57 years old.
- 4:54And to me, he was so young. And he said, you know, when he
- 4:58was, he knew he was ill. He said, well, I've had a really
- 5:02great life and I can't imagine, I can't imagine what that must
- 5:08have felt like because I still feel like I have so much to do.
- 5:13And I can't believe that now at that age, I'm sitting there
- 5:17going, holy cow, I can't imagine that what he must have felt
- 5:21like, because I feel like I have so much more that I want to do.
- 5:25So when I come back to this whole thing, the problem is you
- 5:27think you have time Now I recognize I don't.
- 5:31So this was one of these things that I had talked about doing,
- 5:34having chickens, they're a major force in my life to the
- 5:38happiness and having them, having them just be a part of my
- 5:42everyday life again. And I made it happen.
- 5:46And when it came up to doing the the podcast and I had talked
- 5:49about doing it for so long as I've said another podcast, this
- 5:53was my natural. Like it just went off and it was
- 5:56like a natural bells going off and saying, yes, this is it, go
- 5:59do it in the chicken coop. And ever since I made the
- 6:02decision, it's been every single day since then.
- 6:06And I have not regretted it at all.
- 6:09But it put me in a place or I had to think about, well, if
- 6:13you're not going to do it now or when are you going to do it?
- 6:15Because the problem is you think you have time.
- 6:18So you either make the time or you sit there and think about
- 6:21when will it be time. And I think that's the conundrum
- 6:25that you have to ponder today. If you're not going to do it,
- 6:28when will you do it? When will you make the time?
- 6:31Because time goes by quickly. And the problem is we think we
- 6:34have lots of it and we don't. So if there are things that just
- 6:38you've always wanted to do, and there are things that you've
- 6:41always wanted to experience, and there are things that you've
- 6:43always wanted to say you tried. And even if it's sitting down
- 6:47and doing something as solo as writing a book, whatever it
- 6:50might be, you have to make the choice to say now is the time
- 6:55and make those things happen. Because if you wait for the time
- 7:00to show up, I promise you it won't.
- 7:02It's just like there's never a good time to have a kid or buy a
- 7:04house or get a puppy, whatever it might be.
- 7:07It it this is all about what you put your focus on and your
- 7:10intent. So don't go down the road of
- 7:12constantly being under the illusion that you think you have
- 7:15time because it's not promised to anybody.
- 7:19So figure out what's special to you and make sure you understand
- 7:23that I want to do this because it's important to me and I'm
- 7:27going to make the time. I'm not just going to wait for
- 7:29the time. I hope you guys have a blessed
- 7:31day and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
