- 0:02Speaker 1: Terry Francona is here, manager of the Reds, a legend
- 0:06Speaker 1: in our sports. I've been told we have like sevenish minutes.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I am by that, right, Let's not forget playoff Reds.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Playoff Reds. That's right, first season at the Helm playoff team. Okay, well,
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm gonna hit him with the hard question right away,
- 0:19Speaker 1: like what's your pitch to a free agent like Kyles
- 0:22Speaker 1: Forber about why.
- 0:23Speaker 3: They should join your little set of really talented players.
- 0:28Speaker 4: You know what, I I don't want to talk about
- 0:32Speaker 4: any player specifically, because I don't think that's respectful. I
- 0:37Speaker 4: tell anybody that wants to listen, though, the truth. I
- 0:40Speaker 4: love our guys. You know, people talk about leadership and
- 0:45Speaker 4: all this stuff. The guys in that room know the
- 0:48Speaker 4: difference between right and wrong, and they choose to try
- 0:51Speaker 4: to do right.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I mean, AJ knows this.
- 0:54Speaker 4: You know, every manager stands up there the first day
- 0:56Speaker 4: and says, hey, we can't be late. We're gonna hustle.
- 0:59Speaker 4: Our guys were never late, never. I appreciate that. You know,
- 1:04Speaker 4: was is it perfect?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Some days?
- 1:06Speaker 4: No, It's never gonna be. But it's a group that
- 1:09Speaker 4: I love trying to see how good we can get.
- 1:13Speaker 3: And there were some guys late in prior tenures with
- 1:16Speaker 3: other teams.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Did some Reds games. I did some Reds games down
- 1:21Speaker 2: the stretch, and he said the same thing to me.
- 1:24Speaker 2: He's like, these guys get it. Yeah, they work, they do.
- 1:27Speaker 2: They really do.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Like you ask them to do something, they look at
- 1:30Speaker 4: you and they try, and their competitive as hell. And
- 1:36Speaker 4: I think because of our age, you know, I think
- 1:38Speaker 4: I hope our trajectory is still going this way because
- 1:42Speaker 4: you know, our goal isn't to win eighty three games
- 1:45Speaker 4: kind of sneak into the playoffs. You know, we want
- 1:47Speaker 4: to be better than that. But our guys got to
- 1:52Speaker 4: feel getting downs to a champagne and then three days
- 1:55Speaker 4: later they got to feel how much it hurts when
- 1:57Speaker 4: you get sent home early. And I told them to
- 1:59Speaker 4: remember both feelings.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Hey, for a free agent that might ask this question,
- 2:04Speaker 1: Amcrats is not on with us the second. But he's
- 2:06Speaker 1: got this conspiracy theory that the ballpark there actually is
- 2:09Speaker 1: playing like a little more a little less great American
- 2:13Speaker 1: small park.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Do you think that's the case or is the pitching
- 2:15Speaker 3: just so much better?
- 2:16Speaker 4: I think we did hit home runs, okay, that's fair,
- 2:21Speaker 4: But I think being serious. I think it's hard to
- 2:25Speaker 4: hit now. I mean, god, dang man, guys. You know
- 2:30Speaker 4: some of these guys they don't command, but they're throwing
- 2:32Speaker 4: a hundred when you're facing them once in the sixth inning.
- 2:36Speaker 4: That's no day at the beach. Hitting is really hard.
- 2:39Speaker 4: They're just pitching has evolved so much and it's changed,
- 2:44Speaker 4: and it's just hard for hitters.
- 2:47Speaker 1: My favorite player to watch is Ellie de la Cruz.
- 2:50Speaker 1: No secret there. And we heard that there was some
- 2:53Speaker 1: injury issues down the stretch. What did you experience being
- 2:55Speaker 1: with him every day? Because I know it was important
- 2:57Speaker 1: for him to play every day, but did that hold
- 2:59Speaker 1: him back?
- 2:59Speaker 4: And I I was just telling some of the other
- 3:01Speaker 4: guys I needed to own up to that I probably
- 3:03Speaker 4: didn't do him any favors. I mean, I love the
- 3:06Speaker 4: fact that how much he wanted to play every day,
- 3:08Speaker 4: and I respect that a ton. I do think I
- 3:11Speaker 4: need to probably step in occasionally and go, hey, hey,
- 3:13Speaker 4: get off your legs today, and and I think that
- 3:16Speaker 4: will help him in the future. He'll hate it, but
- 3:19Speaker 4: I think it'll be good for him.
- 3:21Speaker 3: You have experience with that. Jose Ramirez battled you, didn't
- 3:24Speaker 3: he do.
- 3:24Speaker 4: You want to piss him off, tell him he's not
- 3:28Speaker 4: playing now. Josey in his would would d H and
- 3:33Speaker 4: he is. He got a little older. Ellie fights me
- 3:36Speaker 4: to the nail and and like I said, I really
- 3:39Speaker 4: respect it, but I still need to probably step in
- 3:41Speaker 4: and go, hey, I need to explain it better to
- 3:43Speaker 4: him why it will help him.
- 3:45Speaker 2: You love that though. As a manager, you want guys
- 3:47Speaker 2: that want to love the same thing.
- 3:48Speaker 5: You much rather have guys that say I want to
- 3:49Speaker 5: play a guys are like, oh thanks, I'll take the
- 3:52Speaker 5: week off.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Like people ask you all the time, like when you
- 3:54Speaker 4: go to take a picture out and they're mad, I
- 3:56Speaker 4: hope they're mad.
- 3:58Speaker 2: The ball Now that's a little too far.
- 4:01Speaker 4: But I don't want somebody looking in the dugout after
- 4:03Speaker 4: the fifth and like hey, come get me. You know,
- 4:05Speaker 4: I'll figure it out. But I like the fact guys
- 4:09Speaker 4: that want to stay out there.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 1: One more on the transaction front, Hunter Green's name came
- 4:14Speaker 1: up like early this offseason, and I was like, why
- 4:17Speaker 1: the heck would the Reds do that? So I know
- 4:19Speaker 1: that's not your job, but if you see a rumor
- 4:21Speaker 1: like that come out, do you make a phone call like, hey,
- 4:24Speaker 1: I think we should hold on to this guy, no.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Because I actually remember when it did because I was
- 4:29Speaker 4: with I was with Nick, and I go where he goes.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 4:34Speaker 4: You know, sometimes things in today's world with internet and everything,
- 4:38Speaker 4: as we all know, if it's on the internet, it
- 4:40Speaker 4: has to be true, of course. But that got legs
- 4:43Speaker 4: for some reason. And we can't go get those guys
- 4:48Speaker 4: in our market, so for us to trade them, somebody
- 4:51Speaker 4: better give us their whole team. And actually we love
- 4:57Speaker 4: our starting pitching. So I don't know where that got
- 4:59Speaker 4: legs and it shouldn't have.
- 5:01Speaker 3: You got last.
- 5:02Speaker 5: I love Nick by the way. Oh he's unbelieved, he's
- 5:04Speaker 5: been on He's unbelievable.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and bad there, I'm telling you, man, I've never
- 5:10Speaker 4: been accused of being the smartest person, and I know that.
- 5:14Speaker 4: But I came here for the right reasons. And when
- 5:16Speaker 4: you're with people every day, because it's challenging man sometimes,
- 5:19Speaker 4: and I love going through with guys like that that
- 5:21Speaker 4: I respect and they care about me.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And look out for me.
- 5:24Speaker 5: He lost one of your guys though, Yeah, Millsey he retired.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Yeah what are you going to do without Milsey? Because
- 5:30Speaker 5: he's been with you for how long?
- 5:32Speaker 4: Well, since our first year together was nineteen seventy eight.
- 5:35Speaker 4: Think about that, I mean cribbage games, you think about that.
- 5:39Speaker 4: But we're so close that. I was so happy that
- 5:44Speaker 4: he was able to be in a situation where he
- 5:46Speaker 4: could handle it coming back family wise, and then so
- 5:50Speaker 4: for him to say he did it, not to be
- 5:52Speaker 4: able to go home and be with his family. Everybody's
- 5:55Speaker 4: happy for him. I mean, it's just that guy is
- 5:58Speaker 4: He's everybody's either uncle or grandpa or brother. He's just
- 6:02Speaker 4: the salt of the earth and that will never change.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and it was good.
- 6:05Speaker 1: That's a good final question there for May say we'll
- 6:10Speaker 1: see you at reds Fast. We're going to be there
- 6:12Speaker 1: for our show.
- 6:13Speaker 3: We are.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I don't think he is, but I'm going to be
- 6:15Speaker 1: there with Todd Fraser and Danny Green. We're gonna get
- 6:19Speaker 1: That was the promise. Five with now ten with him
- 6:21Speaker 1: when we see him at reds Fast, appreciate you be
- 6:24Speaker 1: right back.
- 6:24Speaker 3: How's life with him? Bloom?
- 6:27Speaker 2: It's been good.
- 6:28Speaker 6: The transition has been seamless, man, because he was around
- 6:30Speaker 6: quite a bit the last couple of years, specifically last
- 6:33Speaker 6: year having Mo and him, it was as smooth as
- 6:38Speaker 6: I could have ever anticipated the the way they handled
- 6:41Speaker 6: everything from just Mo really focused on the big league team.
- 6:45Speaker 6: Him was kind of implementing a lot of different systems
- 6:48Speaker 6: of the process down the minor leagues and hiring down
- 6:51Speaker 6: there in order to set us up for success. So
- 6:53Speaker 6: as we got past the trade deadline, a lot more
- 6:55Speaker 6: communication and meeting with him a lot more often.
- 6:59Speaker 3: The off season has been great. Man.
- 7:01Speaker 6: I love the way he thinks, he cares about people,
- 7:03Speaker 6: loves the game, So that part of it's been really
- 7:05Speaker 6: really good.
- 7:07Speaker 7: Should it be seamless? Like I mean, you when you
- 7:10Speaker 7: have a new guy come in, do you kind of like, hey,
- 7:12Speaker 7: how's he gonna like? How's he gonna mix this up?
- 7:15Speaker 7: Because it hasn't gone the way we wanted it the
- 7:17Speaker 7: last two years. Or is it like I'd rather have
- 7:19Speaker 7: it seamless and then we figure it out.
- 7:22Speaker 6: No, I mean when I say seamless, all those conversations
- 7:25Speaker 6: have been taking place for months now, even spring training
- 7:30Speaker 6: this past year, so there's no surprises as far as
- 7:33Speaker 6: how he thinks and what he's looking to implement, and
- 7:36Speaker 6: he's done exactly what he said he was gonna do.
- 7:39Speaker 6: So from from that standpoint, that's what I mean by seamless.
- 7:41Speaker 6: Is there's been no surprises in how he communicates and
- 7:43Speaker 6: what we're trying to accomplish.
- 7:45Speaker 5: Yeah, is there anything different he's brought to the table already,
- 7:48Speaker 5: meaning terminology things he looked for was there forever I
- 7:54Speaker 5: played with no doubt?
- 7:55Speaker 2: Right, So is there is he?
- 7:57Speaker 5: Is he changing terminology? Is he changing what they look for?
- 7:59Speaker 5: Is he changed how you guys go about you know,
- 8:01Speaker 5: the off season?
- 8:02Speaker 6: A combination of all those things, right, He definitely wants
- 8:06Speaker 6: to do things a little bit different and change things
- 8:08Speaker 6: up from the way we've done it in the past.
- 8:11Speaker 6: There's obviously a lot of history and things that have
- 8:14Speaker 6: been sustainable here that he will keep. But there is
- 8:16Speaker 6: an element of changing how we look at player acquisition
- 8:19Speaker 6: in the draft and how we look at even development
- 8:22Speaker 6: minor leagues. A lot more horsepower and resources be important
- 8:26Speaker 6: to that how we develop guys at the big league level,
- 8:28Speaker 6: adding staff members that could aid in that as well.
- 8:30Speaker 3: So that's been a positive.
- 8:33Speaker 6: And he communicates well with me, But he does a
- 8:36Speaker 6: really nice job of communicating with our staff as well,
- 8:38Speaker 6: so that everybody's on the same page and understand that
- 8:40Speaker 6: there's one common language and here's what we're headed towards.
- 8:42Speaker 7: Yeah, I worked with him or worked for him for
- 8:46Speaker 7: like two months when I was with the Red.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Sox and he was he was a Red Sox.
- 8:50Speaker 7: He does an incredible job of communicating well with everybody,
- 8:54Speaker 7: but he also here's your input. What's the one thing
- 8:58Speaker 7: that you can tell us that you're like, hey, I
- 9:01Speaker 7: really need more of this since he's come on board, Like, hey,
- 9:05Speaker 7: you know, I enjoyed this from MO, but we lacked
- 9:08Speaker 7: some of this that I would like a little bit
- 9:10Speaker 7: more of as managers of the big league team that
- 9:12Speaker 7: I want to win.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Yeah, the thing that comes to mind is when you
- 9:18Speaker 6: look at some of the resources that have been important
- 9:20Speaker 6: to the minor leagues, that was a big part of
- 9:21Speaker 6: it is not being spread too thin down there and
- 9:24Speaker 6: guys trying to do several different jobs. So I think
- 9:28Speaker 6: the process that has been put in place, the hiring
- 9:30Speaker 6: process and the people that have been brought on man
- 9:33Speaker 6: is already seeing the benefit of that, and we're going
- 9:35Speaker 6: to continue to being able to add a couple guys
- 9:38Speaker 6: at the big league level as well. So I think
- 9:40Speaker 6: that more than anything, is just being able to have
- 9:42Speaker 6: more manpower behind what we're trying to do.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Before we go on. You know, your answer should have
- 9:49Speaker 5: been to that money to get players. That should have
- 9:52Speaker 5: been your answers time you gave it to give us money?
- 9:55Speaker 5: Do you get players?
- 9:57Speaker 2: What do you mean money? It's good players.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I hear you, yes.
- 10:02Speaker 2: But I mean I'm just saying. It's my opinion.
- 10:04Speaker 6: You like things that you know, things that you can say.
- 10:08Speaker 3: You know. That's why you have that seat. That's perfect,
- 10:11Speaker 3: the best role in the world where you're just like
- 10:13Speaker 3: money for players. Can we spend money? Yes? Okay, great,
- 10:16Speaker 3: well all right, let's get it money. Of course that
- 10:23Speaker 3: is true. All right, let's get to some specific players.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I want to start with Sonny Gray, who obviously is
- 10:30Speaker 1: not with the team now, but your thoughts on that
- 10:33Speaker 1: move and you're.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Always looking for some storyline at the winter meetings.
- 10:37Speaker 1: The sexy storyline to start things off is did he
- 10:40Speaker 1: want to.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Be a Yankee?
- 10:41Speaker 3: And his agents are.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Plaguing and all that, And you just spent a lot
- 10:44Speaker 1: of time with Sonny, So.
- 10:46Speaker 3: What are your thoughts.
- 10:48Speaker 6: I love Sonny, I love the way he competes, the
- 10:50Speaker 6: way he prepares its next level, and guy's feet off
- 10:54Speaker 6: of that man even when he came in first spring training.
- 10:56Speaker 6: The way he goes about his bullpens and just the
- 10:57Speaker 6: days in between. You want your young guys to notice
- 11:01Speaker 6: a lot of that and and try to mimic it.
- 11:04Speaker 6: I hate seeing him go, but when you look at
- 11:06Speaker 6: I mean him was pretty clear on what the objectives
- 11:09Speaker 6: are and what we're trying to do. Like he said,
- 11:11Speaker 6: we're not going to concede anything for this upcoming year.
- 11:13Speaker 6: We're gonna compete and keep the standard high, but at
- 11:15Speaker 6: the same time set ourselves up for success in the
- 11:17Speaker 6: futures where we show up and you know you're gonna
- 11:20Speaker 6: win and having that type of club that's extremely competitive
- 11:23Speaker 6: and that's part of the Sunny trade, and there's going
- 11:25Speaker 6: to be more down the road here shortly.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So wait what what it's wait what?
- 11:31Speaker 6: So it's it's it's it's unfortunate to see those type
- 11:34Speaker 6: of guys go. But at the same time, you know
- 11:35Speaker 6: you're setting yourself up for success and everybody's on the
- 11:37Speaker 6: same page as to what that needs to look like.
- 11:39Speaker 2: He snuck it in.
- 11:40Speaker 5: I got, I got, I heard that. But who's going
- 11:42Speaker 5: to take over the leadership role? Sonny was kind of
- 11:44Speaker 5: the leader of the of the starting rotation and kind
- 11:47Speaker 5: of the pitching staff. Who's going to take over that
- 11:48Speaker 5: role on your team?
- 11:50Speaker 3: Now, I think you have to grow that.
- 11:52Speaker 6: It's hard to sit here and say this guy is
- 11:53Speaker 6: the guy, but you do have guys that are young
- 11:56Speaker 6: that have leadership qualities. In a liberatore in am agreevy
- 11:59Speaker 6: that you you're wanting them to take that next step.
- 12:02Speaker 6: Doesn't mean they have to be the guy because usually
- 12:05Speaker 6: it's a guy that's been in the league, that's has
- 12:06Speaker 6: ups and downs at the big leagues already that can
- 12:08Speaker 6: speak to that. But these guys couldn't take that next
- 12:10Speaker 6: step together and collectively grow into that type of role.
- 12:14Speaker 3: So I look forward to that.
- 12:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean when you look at each one of
- 12:20Speaker 6: those guys are very different in how they go about
- 12:21Speaker 6: their business. But Deliberator, he does have the leadership qualities
- 12:26Speaker 6: to be able to do it like Libby's.
- 12:27Speaker 3: He's a dude man.
- 12:28Speaker 6: The way he thinks about the game, the way he
- 12:30Speaker 6: prepares you can he gets punched in the face and
- 12:32Speaker 6: there's not a whole lot of emotion, which is something
- 12:34Speaker 6: you want to see in that type of role.
- 12:36Speaker 3: So he's someone that can definitely grow into it.
- 12:38Speaker 7: Yeah, had Sonny accepted the trade before last season. How
- 12:43Speaker 7: much different would this season this past season have been
- 12:46Speaker 7: for you guys in the sense of like scrambling during
- 12:49Speaker 7: spring training to try to find somebody. Is it better
- 12:51Speaker 7: that it happened now and then you have the off
- 12:54Speaker 7: season to figure it out, because if he had accepted
- 12:58Speaker 7: the trade from last year, how different would it have
- 13:01Speaker 7: been for you guys throughout this this season that you
- 13:04Speaker 7: have you still on michaelas.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, we did.
- 13:07Speaker 6: We still had guys that can take the ball, and
- 13:09Speaker 6: thankfully all of our starters took the ball every every
- 13:12Speaker 6: time out. But it did give an opportunity for like
- 13:14Speaker 6: a Libertore to be in the rotation this year, and
- 13:16Speaker 6: it gives us an opportunity to see what a Kyle
- 13:19Speaker 6: lay he comes into spring training built up, and give
- 13:22Speaker 6: him an opportunity to start as well. So you have
- 13:25Speaker 6: enough time and and him's been clear he'd like to
- 13:27Speaker 6: add another one before we get the spring training, So
- 13:31Speaker 6: that'll be interesting to see kind of how that pans
- 13:33Speaker 6: out as well.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Since your whole coaching still well not all of them,
- 13:36Speaker 5: but most of your coaching staff his ex cardinals, great,
- 13:42Speaker 5: can we fire descalso and hire me as the bench coach?
- 13:44Speaker 1: No chance change every day, right, every day, every day
- 13:49Speaker 1: you imagine my life.
- 13:51Speaker 3: You're a saint, You're a saint. No chance?
- 13:55Speaker 2: What about Controllers? Yeah, I mean that's kind of the
- 13:57Speaker 2: next big name, right.
- 13:58Speaker 5: It has a no trade in Nolan, So it's it's
- 14:01Speaker 5: kind of Wilson and Nolan are the next two that
- 14:03Speaker 5: have no trades.
- 14:04Speaker 6: And Wilson's been clear about he loves being here in
- 14:08Speaker 6: Saint Louis and he loves the group and being a
- 14:10Speaker 6: part of building this group up to get to where
- 14:12Speaker 6: we want to get to. But at the same time,
- 14:14Speaker 6: it's gonna have to make sense more so for not
- 14:16Speaker 6: on him but his family.
- 14:17Speaker 3: And he's the type of guy you can have these
- 14:19Speaker 3: conversations with. He's very upfront.
- 14:21Speaker 6: He loves where he's at, he loves the situation in
- 14:23Speaker 6: Saint Louis, he feels at home. But at the same time,
- 14:26Speaker 6: if it makes sense, then it's a conversation. So we'll
- 14:30Speaker 6: see kind of where that leads. But the other one
- 14:33Speaker 6: with with Nolan, Yeah, I mean, we've got a couple
- 14:36Speaker 6: of months, we'll see kind of how this song plays out.
- 14:40Speaker 7: This might be super idiot question. Any chance Contraires can
- 14:44Speaker 7: still catch did he put a mid on his hand
- 14:46Speaker 7: at all last year. As far as like Cardinals trade value,
- 14:50Speaker 7: it's tougher to trade just a first baseman who had
- 14:54Speaker 7: a catcher would be way different.
- 14:56Speaker 6: He has a passion for it and if needed I
- 15:00Speaker 6: I wouldn't put it past them to be able to
- 15:02Speaker 6: go back there and still do it. He took the
- 15:04Speaker 6: first a lot better than I anticipated, Like I thought
- 15:07Speaker 6: he would be good over there, Like he did a
- 15:09Speaker 6: really nice job man. Footwork around the bag was good,
- 15:11Speaker 6: and his dedication to it was awesome. So I think
- 15:14Speaker 6: there's some versatility there.
- 15:15Speaker 5: What will it take And I know you don't have
- 15:18Speaker 5: all the answers to this question for you guys to
- 15:21Speaker 5: compete with the Milwaukee with the with the Cubs, right,
- 15:24Speaker 5: because for the years and years and years it was
- 15:27Speaker 5: always the Cardinals dungeon right, and then the last few years,
- 15:29Speaker 5: obviously Milwaukee's taking off the Cubs made the playoffs. What
- 15:32Speaker 5: will it take for you guys to give back to
- 15:35Speaker 5: the Cardinal way, which for me was always man, they
- 15:37Speaker 5: win and they compete every year.
- 15:39Speaker 6: That's when you talk about the sunny Gray move and something.
- 15:42Speaker 6: It's setting yourself, setting us ourselves up for success down
- 15:46Speaker 6: the road, and that doesn't mean a ways away like
- 15:49Speaker 6: that can be pretty soon. But it's a combination of
- 15:52Speaker 6: some of these young guys taking the next step in
- 15:54Speaker 6: their career and being able to do what we think
- 15:56Speaker 6: they're capable of doing and doing what they know they're
- 15:58Speaker 6: capable of doing, but also strengthening the pitching side and
- 16:02Speaker 6: getting some guys that can miss some bats and and
- 16:06Speaker 6: and compete in that kind of top of the rotation
- 16:08Speaker 6: type of guys. So that's something that we've we've lacked,
- 16:12Speaker 6: we've lacked death and at the moment we do have
- 16:15Speaker 6: some young guys that are coming through that we're pretty
- 16:18Speaker 6: talking about.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Yeah, oh wait, sorry, go ahead, crauch.
- 16:23Speaker 7: Oh no, How surprised were you with how Hellsley did
- 16:27Speaker 7: when he went to New York? And if like, what
- 16:30Speaker 7: did you see? What did you see from him? Did
- 16:32Speaker 7: you see anything in his mannerisms? Did you see anything
- 16:35Speaker 7: in his pitch usage? I know you're not You're you're
- 16:38Speaker 7: managing your own team, but I'm sure you kept.
- 16:40Speaker 2: You know, Oh.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Yeah, you do keep track because you want to see
- 16:46Speaker 6: how these guys do once they leave. And it's something
- 16:49Speaker 6: he battled with even with us, and he was in
- 16:52Speaker 6: and out of it. Obviously there's a ton of noise
- 16:54Speaker 6: around the pitch tipping, which is a real thing for
- 16:56Speaker 6: him that he falls in and out of, and at
- 16:59Speaker 6: times there's there's several things that he does that that
- 17:01Speaker 6: can give it away that he's well aware of. But
- 17:04Speaker 6: in the heat of the moment, game speeds up on
- 17:06Speaker 6: you and you fall into it. So there's some things there, man,
- 17:08Speaker 6: but this is a real competitor. I enjoyed having Healsley Man.
- 17:12Speaker 6: We went through times where it was just keeping him
- 17:16Speaker 6: healthy and there was times where man, he wanted the
- 17:17Speaker 6: ball all the time, like last year. So I enjoyed
- 17:20Speaker 6: having him. I think, I think he'll bounce. That can
- 17:23Speaker 6: be just fine.
- 17:24Speaker 5: When you when you say pitch tipping, Yeah, did you
- 17:26Speaker 5: guys know he was doing that? And did you guys
- 17:29Speaker 5: work with him on that? And then so it was
- 17:30Speaker 5: a constant because once a tip, are always a tipper.
- 17:33Speaker 5: And so I don't know what it was. I'm not
- 17:34Speaker 5: going to get into all that, but you guys identified
- 17:36Speaker 5: that in the Cardinals.
- 17:38Speaker 1: It was documented too though, I mean there's articles about
- 17:40Speaker 1: it right. It's it was a pre pitch delivery for
- 17:43Speaker 1: fastball and slider where it's like a little.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Bit of a bend and you can tell.
- 17:46Speaker 6: So there's a combination of things there, and we'd have
- 17:48Speaker 6: to get two into the nitty gritty, but he would
- 17:52Speaker 6: fall into it, and then the correction for it would
- 17:55Speaker 6: kind of lead to a different type of tipping. Right,
- 17:58Speaker 6: So there's this back and forth of just trying to
- 18:01Speaker 6: mask it so that he didn't fall into it.
- 18:04Speaker 5: But somebody the Ryan Dempster, where you just did everything,
- 18:06Speaker 5: all the crazies.
- 18:07Speaker 6: It is hard, man like creature of habit, and sometimes
- 18:09Speaker 6: you fall, especially in the heat of the moment. Man,
- 18:11Speaker 6: you're fifteen pitches into an outing and you're just trying
- 18:13Speaker 6: to and you fall back into it and the next
- 18:16Speaker 6: thing you know, it snowballs on you. So it's not
- 18:18Speaker 6: the easiest thing. He's definitely aware of it, and I
- 18:20Speaker 6: think we'll be fine. Pressure rams up your your weaknesses
- 18:22Speaker 6: come out big time.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Right like you know those cratch.
- 18:25Speaker 5: The more pressure there is, the more your weaknesses appear.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Whether it's tipping, whether it's you know, hitting, whatever it is.
- 18:32Speaker 5: That's when you're like, oh, everything gets exposed. And so
- 18:34Speaker 5: that's why with pictures it's so hard for them to
- 18:36Speaker 5: stop doing it all right, before we let you go.
- 18:38Speaker 5: Since you're a hometown guy like me, what's your favorite restaurant?
- 18:41Speaker 2: Orlando?
- 18:41Speaker 3: Dude, I haven't been here and so like you were
- 18:43Speaker 3: living here. That was back in like two thousand and four.
- 18:47Speaker 2: So okay, what was your favorite restaurant?
- 18:48Speaker 3: You can't say like somebody I got nothing?
- 18:52Speaker 2: You got nothing?
- 18:53Speaker 3: No, not Christine, I'm not just like favorite thing to do?
- 18:55Speaker 3: Like did you go? Were you a Parks guy? Did
- 18:58Speaker 3: you go?
- 18:59Speaker 2: Like?
- 18:59Speaker 3: What did you do in here? I was in high school?
- 19:02Speaker 5: So I have lived here high school. I haven't been No,
- 19:04Speaker 5: you haven't been here sin high school school?
- 19:06Speaker 3: Because then I want to treat.
- 19:07Speaker 2: You because when I was a DV we had skipped in.
- 19:09Speaker 6: We all went to Universal for sure, Like I can
- 19:11Speaker 6: see the roller coaster form the my math class. Yeah yeah, yeah, okay,
- 19:15Speaker 6: but I have to live here since high school we
- 19:17Speaker 6: burn Jupiter for twelve years.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Can he have the year defensively? Yeah, dude, he had
- 19:20Speaker 2: one of the greatest years of all time.
- 19:22Speaker 6: This dude, when I say, he's an absolute like savage
- 19:25Speaker 6: when it comes to wanting to be that guy, every
- 19:27Speaker 6: year he cares and he wants several of those gold gloves.
- 19:33Speaker 6: He's passionate about it, and I think the bat's going
- 19:35Speaker 6: to be a real thing for him.
- 19:38Speaker 3: He can spray it all over the place.
- 19:39Speaker 6: He's got some pop, and I think as he continues
- 19:41Speaker 6: to get older, we're going to see a really good
- 19:42Speaker 6: version of that side of him. But defensively, man, he
- 19:45Speaker 6: cares and he wants to be the best to ever
- 19:46Speaker 6: do it, and it'll be fun to watch him.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:49Speaker 5: By the way, DP alumni game is December nineteen. Are
- 19:52Speaker 5: you in you going? No, I'm out of town, but.
- 19:54Speaker 3: You can don't ask me, dude. Good to see you,
- 19:58Speaker 3: Good to see you, brother. Hey, we're back, Stephen. Vote
- 20:01Speaker 3: is here. You should do the intro.
- 20:03Speaker 5: Here, turn back to back, back to back, manager the back.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Did you I mean, did you think it was coming?
- 20:11Speaker 5: Because I didn't think they would. I thought they would
- 20:13Speaker 5: have vote tired to vote, tired of Murph and then
- 20:15Speaker 5: both of you guys won.
- 20:16Speaker 8: Yeah, it was pretty cool. I mean, Uhpe.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Written this year. We'll see, we'll see.
- 20:22Speaker 8: I mean, honestly, it means so much, right, It's like
- 20:25Speaker 8: it's an organizational award. It really is recognizing what our
- 20:27Speaker 8: guys did. And it was a unique year, to say
- 20:30Speaker 8: the least for us, but so really honored to get
- 20:32Speaker 8: that happy for Murf and but you know, I was
- 20:35Speaker 8: not expecting it at all.
- 20:38Speaker 1: So part of it is there's always a narrative with
- 20:40Speaker 1: these awards, right, whether it's the team had lower public
- 20:44Speaker 1: perception of expectations. I feel like this one had just
- 20:47Speaker 1: had to do with the fact that during the season
- 20:50Speaker 1: the team had essentially no shot of winning the division
- 20:53Speaker 1: and then they storm back. So where was a point
- 20:56Speaker 1: where you looked and you were like, this is cute.
- 20:59Speaker 1: It's just not gonna happen this year.
- 21:01Speaker 8: You know, you try not to go there, right because
- 21:04Speaker 8: as soon as you go there, you make up your
- 21:05Speaker 8: mind that you can't. And I think the beauty of
- 21:08Speaker 8: our game is we play one hundred and sixty two
- 21:10Speaker 8: of these things and until you have an E next
- 21:12Speaker 8: to your name, you're not out of it.
- 21:13Speaker 2: And that was really the rhetoric we used.
- 21:16Speaker 8: And then to try and get the guys, it's, hey,
- 21:18Speaker 8: we're here to win today. We can't control what happened yesterday,
- 21:21Speaker 8: and we can't worry about tomorrow.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Yet, so you gotta you gotta at Tito.
- 21:27Speaker 8: So you you have to you have to keep your
- 21:28Speaker 8: head down and you have to focus on today and
- 21:30Speaker 8: our guys did a phenomenal job of that and they
- 21:32Speaker 8: were able to come back.
- 21:33Speaker 5: I remember we had I did a game of yours.
- 21:35Speaker 5: It was in submit September ish, and you guys are
- 21:38Speaker 5: right there, and I never forget You're in your office
- 21:41Speaker 5: and he pulls up his chair you know, you know
- 21:43Speaker 5: most managers kind of stay by on their desk. He
- 21:45Speaker 5: literally pulls up his chair like dis closed. He's like,
- 21:47Speaker 5: what do you got? And I was like, oh man,
- 21:49Speaker 5: this guy's locked.
- 21:50Speaker 2: In and I asked him.
- 21:51Speaker 5: I literally I literally looked at you and go, how
- 21:54Speaker 5: are you guys doing this right? Because you look at
- 21:56Speaker 5: their lineup? But then I watch you guys play and
- 21:59Speaker 5: I was like, oh, every piece fits, every guy knows
- 22:02Speaker 5: what they're doing.
- 22:02Speaker 2: And to me, that goes to the manager.
- 22:04Speaker 5: You having good communication skills and saying, hey, you're this,
- 22:08Speaker 5: I need you to do this, You're this, You're this OZI,
- 22:10Speaker 5: You're the star.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Go be the star. Boom boom boom boom boom.
- 22:13Speaker 5: So yes, you won Manager of the Year again, But
- 22:15Speaker 5: I was just so impressed when I talked to you
- 22:17Speaker 5: and you're like, what do you got?
- 22:18Speaker 2: It was.
- 22:19Speaker 5: It was one of the coolest things ever and then
- 22:21Speaker 5: to see you guys make it. And obviously the playoffs
- 22:23Speaker 5: didn't go as well as you wanted. But with all
- 22:25Speaker 5: the things you lost, you know, losing nail or losing
- 22:28Speaker 5: Class A, losing all the things you lost along the way,
- 22:31Speaker 5: and here you are that that is all credit to
- 22:33Speaker 5: you well in the organization.
- 22:34Speaker 8: No, and I and I appreciate it, and I think,
- 22:36Speaker 8: really what it comes down to, and our coaches do
- 22:38Speaker 8: a phenomenal job of this, it's every one of our guys.
- 22:41Speaker 2: We have to play perfect baseball.
- 22:43Speaker 8: We we have to make plays, we have to throw strikes,
- 22:46Speaker 8: and we have to take advantage of things when we
- 22:48Speaker 8: when we get opportunities. And to our guys credit, they
- 22:51Speaker 8: did that the last two months of the season especially.
- 22:53Speaker 8: I mean, this was a team that you know, like
- 22:55Speaker 8: you said, we could have easily folded and no one
- 22:57Speaker 8: would have cared, No one would have thought twice. And
- 23:00Speaker 8: but that wasn't enough for our guys, and they wanted
- 23:01Speaker 8: to keep going. And man did they play some really
- 23:03Speaker 8: good baseball down the stretch. Wait, but now I'm going
- 23:05Speaker 8: to spin it forward. Okay, we're at the winter meetings.
- 23:07Speaker 8: We want to figure out what the Guardians are going
- 23:10Speaker 8: to do. So it was a great story, but it
- 23:13Speaker 8: didn't go where you wanted it to go. Ultimately, what
- 23:16Speaker 8: do you think the team needs to do?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Like, try and give me, if you can, something really tangible,
- 23:21Speaker 1: like I really need more pop, I really need you know,
- 23:24Speaker 1: give me something that you really want when you have
- 23:26Speaker 1: a discussion with your front office.
- 23:28Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, you know it's been this way in
- 23:30Speaker 8: Cleveland but since before I got here. But you know
- 23:33Speaker 8: the majority of our success is going to be with
- 23:34Speaker 8: the group we have. We need to continue to develop
- 23:37Speaker 8: these guys. We need to continue to push them and
- 23:39Speaker 8: help them grow up. We're still super young, right, and
- 23:42Speaker 8: it's exciting. You look at our offense in September. We're
- 23:45Speaker 8: we're the thirteenth best offense in September with all young guys.
- 23:49Speaker 8: There's a lot to be excited about. And those guys
- 23:50Speaker 8: have another year under their belt. So what we have
- 23:52Speaker 8: to do, the tangible thing is we have to help
- 23:54Speaker 8: our guys figure out who they are individually as hitters,
- 23:57Speaker 8: because if we get our entire group to get better individually,
- 24:01Speaker 8: we're going to have more offense. So whether it's more pop,
- 24:03Speaker 8: whether it's better to strike, hitting more execution, whatever, those
- 24:06Speaker 8: things are, That's what we're going.
- 24:08Speaker 2: To continue to coach, and that's what our guys are
- 24:09Speaker 2: working on. This winner.
- 24:10Speaker 8: So to say we need this, I don't think you
- 24:12Speaker 8: can put your finger on on one thing.
- 24:15Speaker 2: And I really like our group that we have. How
- 24:18Speaker 2: do you do that?
- 24:20Speaker 5: Are you or your hitting coach or someone calling these
- 24:23Speaker 5: guys all winter? Are you flying around the country to
- 24:25Speaker 5: see guys? How do you have them call video? How
- 24:28Speaker 5: do you how do you work with guys even though
- 24:30Speaker 5: because you.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Live in Seattle? Right? Yeah?
- 24:32Speaker 5: So how do you how do you work with these guys?
- 24:36Speaker 2: A lot of it is conversations.
- 24:37Speaker 8: A lot of it is just talking, and it's helping
- 24:39Speaker 8: guys understand Hey, what were your reflections?
- 24:41Speaker 2: We're you know, our coaching staff.
- 24:42Speaker 8: There's no off season now there isn't, right, I mean
- 24:45Speaker 8: players don't stop training, we don't stop coaching at Yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 7: No.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I used to take a few weeks off.
- 24:52Speaker 8: You know, I didn't touch a bat for three months
- 24:54Speaker 8: because I didn't want to think about hitting.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Right. So, but it's changed, the game has changed.
- 24:58Speaker 8: I think there's some good and bad with that, right,
- 25:00Speaker 8: But our hitting coaches are diving in with these guys.
- 25:02Speaker 8: They're sharing video our hitting coaches will fly around to
- 25:05Speaker 8: work with guys from time time, but it's also their
- 25:07Speaker 8: career and their time, so we try to leave them
- 25:09Speaker 8: alone as much as possible, but also we want to
- 25:11Speaker 8: support them throughout the year, and I feel like we
- 25:13Speaker 8: do a pretty good job of that.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you about Sorry and this never happens,
- 25:20Speaker 1: but the name is escaping me postseason rookie the latter. Yeah, right,
- 25:24Speaker 1: I just wanted I didn't want to Butcher that it's
- 25:26Speaker 1: been a long.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Day his first game.
- 25:28Speaker 3: That's what I wanted to aspects we haven't told.
- 25:30Speaker 2: I don't remember he.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Doesn't either, But Chase thrown into the mix like that.
- 25:36Speaker 1: So what was that experience like for you as a
- 25:39Speaker 1: manager to try and get this dude into playoff mode
- 25:42Speaker 1: when he doesn't even know what big league mode is,
- 25:43Speaker 1: and then what's he going to be like in the future.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, the sky's the limit for Chase.
- 25:48Speaker 8: Obviously with him, it's health, right, He's he's had a
- 25:50Speaker 8: hard time staying on the field, regardless of the level.
- 25:53Speaker 8: But when we've seen this guy healthy, he absolutely rakes.
- 25:57Speaker 8: He plays a good outfield and that's why we felt
- 26:00Speaker 8: thrown him in there. He had been working, he'd played
- 26:02Speaker 8: in a few games in Arizona, and I mean why not.
- 26:04Speaker 8: We were searching for offense, and he had great plate
- 26:08Speaker 8: appearances throughout the course of the postseason. And you know,
- 26:11Speaker 8: first fly ball, your first opportunity in the big leagues,
- 26:14Speaker 8: and he gets a sunball the one spot that the
- 26:16Speaker 8: ball could not get hit, It got hit there, and
- 26:18Speaker 8: to his credit, he didn't let that shake him. He
- 26:21Speaker 8: came right up his next to bat, worked in two
- 26:22Speaker 8: to four to two walk through, made the play of
- 26:25Speaker 8: the game that won the game for us, throwing the
- 26:26Speaker 8: runner out, the lead runner making a perfect throw. I mean,
- 26:29Speaker 8: he's a he's a solid player. He walked in confident,
- 26:31Speaker 8: he was not big eyed, and I knew he was ready.
- 26:34Speaker 8: And we felt like as a group that that was
- 26:35Speaker 8: the right decision. Who's the guy you think on your
- 26:39Speaker 8: team side to him? Obviously you think he can take the.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Next ship, But who's the guy, whether that guy that's
- 26:45Speaker 5: either in the minor league or a guy that was
- 26:47Speaker 5: on your team that can take the next jump and
- 26:49Speaker 5: help you guys the most bow Naylor Naylor.
- 26:52Speaker 8: He made some really good adjustments with his lower half
- 26:54Speaker 8: this last year and now this offseason clean up the
- 26:57Speaker 8: path a little bit more to get some more consistency.
- 26:59Speaker 8: But Bonnaylor is one of the best athletes in the
- 27:01Speaker 8: big leagues. I mean, he can catch, he can throw,
- 27:03Speaker 8: he can block, calls a great game.
- 27:05Speaker 2: He's the leader of.
- 27:06Speaker 8: That pitching staff along with Loston Hedges and David Frye,
- 27:08Speaker 8: and but the offense is coming for Bonnaylor, and I
- 27:11Speaker 8: think he's going to be a huge piece of our
- 27:13Speaker 8: team next year.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Hey, you mentioned it.
- 27:14Speaker 1: It's no secret this team can't go big in free
- 27:17Speaker 1: agent spending and all of that.
- 27:19Speaker 3: They dropped what it was it four million bucks on
- 27:21Speaker 3: Austin Hedges.
- 27:23Speaker 1: He thank you, proud, like you're in the that was you.
- 27:27Speaker 8: Whatever hedge he's making, it's not enough. I mean you
- 27:30Speaker 8: can look at his offensive numbers. You can pick apart
- 27:33Speaker 8: any player and say, oh, they're not. Austin Hedges is
- 27:36Speaker 8: the leader of that clubhouse. He makes our pitchers better,
- 27:39Speaker 8: he makes the position players better, he makes everyone around
- 27:41Speaker 8: him better. And he's a really good catcher and a
- 27:44Speaker 8: really good hitter. And the numbers may not always back
- 27:46Speaker 8: it up, but he had a seven to fifty ops
- 27:48Speaker 8: the last six weeks of the season.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Like he can hit.
- 27:51Speaker 8: He's a leader, he's elite, and the value that he
- 27:53Speaker 8: brings our clubhouse and our team is invaluable.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Does he want to be a manager one day?
- 27:57Speaker 2: He's open to it. Okay, you know the couple of years.
- 28:00Speaker 8: Calm down. Yeah, yeah, he's gonna have to reel it
- 28:03Speaker 8: in a little bit.
- 28:04Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean you've done that. Yeah right, Yeah,
- 28:07Speaker 3: we're measured.
- 28:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:08Speaker 8: When and when there's no cameras on, we have a
- 28:10Speaker 8: good time, you know, so exactly, head, you can.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Do whatever he wants in this game.
- 28:13Speaker 8: He's an elite leader, he's a smart baseball person, and
- 28:16Speaker 8: I think he's gonna do whatever he wants.
- 28:18Speaker 5: Okay, who from your bullpen? How do you guys keep
- 28:21Speaker 5: finding these guys? It's just like, oh, we'll throw him
- 28:23Speaker 5: in the bullpen one hundred with a split and a
- 28:25Speaker 5: big curveball. Who's who's the next guy for the bullpen
- 28:30Speaker 5: for the Cleveland Guardians.
- 28:31Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean it's a testament to our scouting, player
- 28:34Speaker 8: development or pitching group of just identifying these guys as
- 28:38Speaker 8: amateurs and then bringing them in and developing them and
- 28:40Speaker 8: bringing them up and getting them prepared to do it.
- 28:42Speaker 2: And we have a really exciting guy.
- 28:44Speaker 8: Franko Alamann six eight six', nine you, know ninety six ninety,
- 28:50Speaker 8: seven good.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Slider, uh he's.
- 28:52Speaker 8: Coming he's had some health, issues but, uh we've got
- 28:54Speaker 8: a number of pitchers we're really excited. About but that's
- 28:57Speaker 8: an area we need to we need to, address is
- 28:58Speaker 8: our bullpen and where we're working on.
- 29:00Speaker 1: That i'm gonna give you one tough one just while
- 29:02Speaker 1: we're on. It i'm not gonna ask you anything to
- 29:04Speaker 1: do with obviously like class a ortise all, that but
- 29:06Speaker 1: just from a managing, perspective you all of a sudden
- 29:09Speaker 1: just got two players plucked, away, RIGHT i mean you
- 29:11Speaker 1: deal with that with.
- 29:12Speaker 3: Injuries but what was that like to deal with as
- 29:14Speaker 3: a manager this?
- 29:15Speaker 2: Year it was.
- 29:16Speaker 8: Difficult there's no there's no playbook for that, one, right
- 29:18Speaker 8: that one's not in like a handbook or you, know
- 29:21Speaker 8: there's no bingo card with that one on. It so
- 29:23Speaker 8: it was A and obviously the investigation is still going,
- 29:26Speaker 8: on so it's it's a it's a tough situation for,
- 29:29Speaker 8: us AND i couldn't be more proud of the way
- 29:30Speaker 8: our guys handled. It you, know we talked about, it
- 29:33Speaker 8: we made ourselves available to, you, know.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Talk it, out whatever you need to.
- 29:36Speaker 8: Do but we have a game tonight and we have
- 29:38Speaker 8: a choice to make and we can either feel sorry
- 29:40Speaker 8: for ourselves or we can go out and we can.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Win and to.
- 29:43Speaker 8: Credit to our, guys they they rallied with each other
- 29:46Speaker 8: and it feels it felt like we didn't skip a.
- 29:48Speaker 2: Beat and that's a testament to our.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Players that's exactly WHAT i was thinking that the.
- 29:51Speaker 5: BULLPEN i, mean, yeah how good Can Gavin Williams because
- 29:59Speaker 5: the second half of the year he was one of
- 30:00Speaker 5: the best pitchers in? Baseball big twelve to six are
- 30:03Speaker 5: throwing the high heater with big.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Rig, right, yeah a big. Rig how good can he
- 30:07Speaker 2: be because he figured something? Out he can be.
- 30:09Speaker 8: ELITE i, mean the dude made three delivery, adjustments added
- 30:13Speaker 8: a pitch in. Season those are things you just not
- 30:17Speaker 8: many people can. Do and the stuff is. Real he
- 30:21Speaker 8: is an absolute. Bulldog he doesn't show, it but this
- 30:24Speaker 8: dude's got passion And gavin can.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Be as good as he wants to.
- 30:29Speaker 8: Be And Carl willis and the pitching team do a
- 30:31Speaker 8: tremendous job with all of our. Starters our starting pitching
- 30:34Speaker 8: was really the story of our. YEAR i mean all
- 30:36Speaker 8: of these guys stepped up in a huge. Way we
- 30:39Speaker 8: saw huge strides from From gavin And Joey, Cantillo Slade,
- 30:42Speaker 8: Seconi Logan allen was as steady as you can be
- 30:45Speaker 8: for you so really And Tanner bibe had a great second.
- 30:49Speaker 8: Half so we're really excited about our starting.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Pitching there's a big difference from this past season to
- 30:54Speaker 3: the season. BEFORE i felt.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Like there was a lot more solidified right with the starting,
- 30:58Speaker 1: rotation because even when we're trying to, look, hey who's
- 31:00Speaker 1: going to pitch playoff? Games and if they keep going,
- 31:02Speaker 1: further probably had a little more comfort in what was there.
- 31:07Speaker 2: No, DOUBT i mean that was our biggest, growth right
- 31:09Speaker 2: was our starting.
- 31:10Speaker 8: Pitching and these guys stepped up when when we did
- 31:13Speaker 8: Lose CLASS, a the starters picked up the sixth.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Inning the starters Took Kate smith's sixth.
- 31:17Speaker 8: Inning so That kate could be in the ninth and
- 31:20Speaker 8: all the credit goes to our starting pitching for what we.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Accomplished, hey last, one But.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Kate smith took over the ninth, inning, Right Hunter gaddis
- 31:29Speaker 5: took over the eighth. Inning you move out a lot
- 31:31Speaker 5: of these guys, back did you think at the, end
- 31:34Speaker 5: they got a little bit tired because.
- 31:36Speaker 2: You use them a lot and you relied on.
- 31:40Speaker 5: Them, basically this is the second year in a row
- 31:41Speaker 5: where you really relied on these guys are. Studs did
- 31:44Speaker 5: you think a little bit they had to HAVE i,
- 31:46Speaker 5: know you try to stay away from but and, yes
- 31:48Speaker 5: you're starting pitching was.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Better but still you're, like we're In we're trying to
- 31:51Speaker 2: win every.
- 31:52Speaker 8: Game it's, hard, RIGHT i, mean we play a ton
- 31:54Speaker 8: of one run, games one and two run games a,
- 31:56Speaker 8: week and these guys stepped up and they were damn
- 31:59Speaker 8: near per ficked again for two years in a. Row
- 32:01Speaker 8: and there's always a little bit an element of. Fatigue
- 32:04Speaker 8: AND i think each one of these guys is learning
- 32:06Speaker 8: more and more about their, bodies learning more and more aout.
- 32:08Speaker 8: Themselves and you, know we throttled back their workload a
- 32:10Speaker 8: little bit this year that compared to the year before
- 32:12Speaker 8: when they all through seventy eight eighty games the year.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Before so it's definitely something we're aware. Of we talk with.
- 32:19Speaker 8: Them they're they're having great offseasons right now to prepare
- 32:21Speaker 8: their bodies to do it. Again and you, know anytime
- 32:23Speaker 8: you can give those guys a night. Off it's a good,
- 32:25Speaker 8: thing but, uh we don't get too many of those.
- 32:26Speaker 8: OPPORTUNITIES i love that.
- 32:28Speaker 5: LOVE i just like When cleveland's good at, baseballs someone
- 32:31Speaker 5: that played in that division for a long.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Time Like i'm, like one of my first big league road.
- 32:35Speaker 5: Trips was jacob when it Was Jacobs field and they
- 32:37Speaker 5: were and it was Just and when you go back
- 32:39Speaker 5: there and like you turn on the playoffs and there's
- 32:41Speaker 5: forty thirty five, Thousand like to, me that Is, yeah
- 32:44Speaker 5: they get behind.
- 32:45Speaker 2: You it's an unbelievable sports. Town and we our fans are.
- 32:49Speaker 8: Incredible they support us all year whether we were doing
- 32:52Speaker 8: well or, not and we CAN'T i can't be more
- 32:55Speaker 8: thankful for.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Them we were the warm. Up he's got to do, press,
- 32:57Speaker 1: confidence all that. Stuff see changed much that.
- 33:00Speaker 2: The full jacket on the. Style we'll see about the award.
