Speaker 1: What's up Longhorn? Thank you for joining us here on
• 0:02
Speaker 1: College Football Addiction presented by PrizePix. Today we are going
• 0:07
Speaker 1: to dive into the latest buzz surrounding Texas Longhorns football.
• 0:11
Speaker 1: National preseason accolades are rolling in and the hype around
• 0:16
Speaker 1: this program is reaching an entirely new level. Between high
• 0:20
Speaker 1: profile stars on offense and massive, massive news on defense
• 0:25
Speaker 1: as well, the ceiling in Austin feels higher than ever.
• 0:29
Speaker 1: At the same time, fall camp is pushing several critical
• 0:33
Speaker 1: position battles straight into the spotlight. There's a new intensity
• 0:37
Speaker 1: on defense where key transfers and schematic changes are tasked
• 0:41
Speaker 1: with fixing last year's issues. There's a demanding schedule ahead
• 0:45
Speaker 1: of you guys, and every single rep on the practice
• 0:48
Speaker 1: field is going to batter this fall. I've got a
• 0:51
Speaker 1: lot that I want to talk about today, so let's
• 0:53
Speaker 1: jump right into it. The Maxwell Award has honored college
• 0:57
Speaker 1: football's player of the year every single season since 1937.
• 1:00
Speaker 1: I'd venture to guess very few of us were around then,
• 1:06
Speaker 1: but if you were, let me know down in the comments.
• 1:09
Speaker 1: This year, the Maxwell Football Club placed 81 names on
• 1:13
Speaker 1: its preseason watch list, and two of them wear burnt orange.
• 1:18
Speaker 1: Texas quarterback Arch Manning made the list for the second
• 1:21
Speaker 1: straight season in junior wide receiver Cam Coleman joined him
• 1:26
Speaker 1: on that watch list also for the second consecutive year.
• 1:30
Speaker 1: That level of national recognition is no accident for this
• 1:34
Speaker 1: program because Texas has now placed two players on the
• 1:37
Speaker 1: preseason watch list in five of the last six seasons.
• 1:41
Speaker 1: Manning earned his spot with a 2025 campaign that did
• 1:45
Speaker 1: check a lot of boxes over 13 starts, he completed
• 1:48
Speaker 1: 248 of his 404 passes. He had 3,163 yards and
• 1:54
Speaker 1: 26 touchdowns. He finished the season with a 61.4% completion rate.
• 1:59
Speaker 1: He certainly progressed throughout the year and got to the
• 2:03
Speaker 1: level that I think a lot of fans expected after
• 2:05
Speaker 1: a rocky start. He also finished as the team's second
• 2:09
Speaker 1: leading rusher. He had just under 400 yards while 10
• 2:12
Speaker 1: rushing touchdowns led the entire roster. Then there's the standout
• 2:16
Speaker 1: statistic that separates him from nearly every other quarterback in
• 2:20
Speaker 1: the country. Manny recorded three separate games with at least
• 2:23
Speaker 1: 300 passing yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Only Baylor,
• 2:30
Speaker 1: Sawyer Robertson, and Ohio State's Julian Sane did it as
• 2:33
Speaker 1: many times as he did. That was the most any
• 2:36
Speaker 1: Power 4 quarterback did during the regular season. It was
• 2:40
Speaker 1: also the most by a Longhorn quarterback since... Major Applewhite,
• 2:44
Speaker 1: back in 1999 for your trivia question of the day
• 2:47
Speaker 1: for your Longhorn message boards. Inside his home stadium, the
• 2:51
Speaker 1: numbers become even more remarkable. His career home passing touchdown
• 2:55
Speaker 1: rate of 9.5% is the highest of any active Power
• 3:00
Speaker 1: 4 quarterback. He closed out 2025 with his very loudest
• 3:05
Speaker 1: performance yet. In the 41-27 Citrus Bowl over Michigan, he
• 3:09
Speaker 1: threw for over 220 yards He had two TDs. He
• 3:13
Speaker 1: added a career-high 155 yards rushing, which is remarkable, and
• 3:17
Speaker 1: he had two more scores on the ground. He walked
• 3:19
Speaker 1: off the field with the game MVP honors. So the
• 3:22
Speaker 1: storyline for Manning writes itself. The family storyline is obvious.
• 3:28
Speaker 1: Both of his uncles won the exact same trophy. Peyton
• 3:30
Speaker 1: took it home in Tennessee's Orange in 1997. Eli won
• 3:34
Speaker 1: it at Ole Miss in 2003. If Arch wins the award,
• 3:38
Speaker 1: he'll become the fifth Longhorn in history to do so.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: joining Tommy Nobis in 1965, one of my favorites, Ricky Williams,
• 3:46
Speaker 1: in 1998, Vince Young in 2005, and Colt McCoy in 2009.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: Coleman represents the other half of that watch list, and
• 3:54
Speaker 1: he is the primary reason the ceiling has risen so
• 3:57
Speaker 1: much for this offense. He arrived as a transfer from
• 4:01
Speaker 1: Auburn after playing in 23 career games with 22 starts
• 4:04
Speaker 1: for the Tigers. In 2025, Coleman led Auburn with 56 catches,
• 4:07
Speaker 1: 708 yards, and five touchdowns. A closer look at that
• 4:12
Speaker 1: stat sheet reveals the clear frustration behind those numbers. He
• 4:15
Speaker 1: averaged just 12.6 yards per reception, a figure that never
• 4:20
Speaker 1: really matched his explosive tape. Served as a major reason
• 4:24
Speaker 1: he wanted out of Auburn's offense. Just look at what
• 4:27
Speaker 1: their quarterback play has looked like. Preseason honors already treat
• 4:32
Speaker 1: that quarterback-receiver connection as an elite pairing. Coleman was named
• 4:36
Speaker 1: to the Walter Camp preseason All-American first team. and the
• 4:40
Speaker 1: preseason All-SEC first team, while Manning secured a spot on
• 4:44
Speaker 1: Walter Kemp's first team and the All-SEC second team. The
• 4:48
Speaker 1: offense has its headline stars and has its price tag,
• 4:53
Speaker 1: and its key deadlines are in place. That shifts the
• 4:56
Speaker 1: focus directly toward the question that nobody in Austin can avoid.
• 5:01
Speaker 1: Before we get to that, I want to give some
• 5:03
Speaker 1: love to PrizePix. Right now, you can take the more
• 5:06
Speaker 1: on Arch Manning's touchdowns. I love that number. I love
• 5:09
Speaker 1: the more on Cam Coleman's yardage. Go pair both those together.
• 5:14
Speaker 1: Go pair something like Jaden Ball's rushing or LJ Martin's rushing,
• 5:17
Speaker 1: whatever you like, and you can set a lineup today.
• 5:20
Speaker 1: College football is back and certainly is ready to be
• 5:23
Speaker 1: played on the PrizePix app. Use our code HMA to
• 5:28
Speaker 1: get $ 150 in lineups if you win your first $ 5 lineup, again,
• 5:31
Speaker 1: on the PrizePix app. Texas surrendered 20.3 points per game
• 5:36
Speaker 1: in 2025, one of the better marks in the SEC.
• 5:38
Speaker 1: And yet the linebacker who anchored that defense in the
• 5:41
Speaker 1: middle was Anthony Hill Jr. He's now gone. Only one
• 5:44
Speaker 1: Texas defender appeared on the sports premier linebacker watch list
• 5:48
Speaker 1: this month. His resume explains exactly how Texas plans to
• 5:52
Speaker 1: replace that production. Senior linebacker Rasheem Biles was named to
• 5:56
Speaker 1: the preseason watch list for the Butkus Award. The Butkus
• 5:59
Speaker 1: Award honors the nation's top linebacker. He was added to
• 6:03
Speaker 1: that list for the second consecutive year. The Butkus Foundation
• 6:07
Speaker 1: deliberately keeps that list at 51 names as a tribute
• 6:11
Speaker 1: to Dick Butkus and his iconic No. 51 jersey. Biles
• 6:15
Speaker 1: stands as the only Longhorn included in that group. The
• 6:18
Speaker 1: competition surrounding him is fierce, featuring Whit Weeks of LSU,
• 6:21
Speaker 1: Arian Carter of Tennessee, Chris Cole of Georgia, Ray Coney
• 6:25
  Speaker 1: of Texas A & M. Biles is a Columbus, Ohio
• 6:28
Speaker 1: native who transferred from Pitt this year after totaling 31
• 6:32
Speaker 1: games and 19 starts across three seasons. His 2025 production
• 6:36
Speaker 1: is the exact reason Texas moved aggressively to land him.
• 6:40
  Speaker 1: He had 101 tackles, 17 for loss, 4.5 sacks, 6
• 6:44
Speaker 1: pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 picks. Then he
• 6:46
Speaker 1: returned 85 total yards for a couple of touchdowns. He
• 6:50
Speaker 1: earned second-team All-ACC honors. His disruptive rate in the backfield
• 6:54
Speaker 1: was one of the most telling metrics of all. He
• 6:56
Speaker 1: led the entire country with 1.7 tackles for loss per game,
• 7:00
Speaker 1: while his 17 total tackles for loss tied for 8th
• 7:03
Speaker 1: most in the FBS. His game tape consistently backs up
• 7:07
Speaker 1: those season totals. He recorded 11 stops against Central Michigan,
• 7:11
Speaker 1: 14 against West Virginia. Against Louisville, he took an interception
• 7:14
Speaker 1: 75 yards to the house. He also racked up nine
• 7:17
Speaker 1: tackles in a second pick six against Notre Dame. He
• 7:19
Speaker 1: also had a sack and a forced fumble against Boston College.
• 7:22
Speaker 1: The national award circuit took immediate notice of his impact.
• 7:26
Speaker 1: He sits on the preseason watch list for both the
• 7:28
Speaker 1: Lombardi Award and the Nargiski Trophy while earning Walter Camp
• 7:32
  Speaker 1: preseason first-team All-American and preseason first-team All-SEC selections. He was
• 7:37
Speaker 1: not the only Texas defender honored in that same news cycle.
• 7:40
Speaker 1: As senior defensive back McDonald landed on the Jim Thorpe Award.
• 7:45
Speaker 1: Steve Sarkeesian singled Biles out after the first day of
• 7:47
Speaker 1: fall camp, noting that he was flying around the field.
• 7:50
Speaker 1: New defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is installing a more aggressive
• 7:55
Speaker 1: pass-heavy scheme, which is a direct response to a unit
• 7:58
Speaker 1: that gave up that 20.3 points a game a year ago.
• 8:02
Speaker 1: Biles is working against his own key dates, with Butkus'
• 8:05
Speaker 1: semifinalists announced on October 28th, finalists revealed on November 20th,
• 8:10
Speaker 1: and the winner named during the week of December 7th.
• 8:13
Speaker 1: On paper, the middle of the defense is probably solved. However,
• 8:16
Speaker 1: the starting spot right beside him remains completely open, marking
• 8:20
Speaker 1: the central question of fall camp. The primary contenders are
• 8:24
Speaker 1: third-year linebacker Ty Anthony Smith, who recorded 76 tackles and
• 8:27
Speaker 1: three picks in two seasons, but carries a lighter 214-pound frame.
• 8:32
Speaker 1: and five-star true freshman Tyler Atkinson, whose talent might make
• 8:36
Speaker 1: him impossible for the staff to not keep on the field.
• 8:39
Speaker 1: A pass-heavy defensive scheme only works if the personnel behind
• 8:42
Speaker 1: it can hold up. That reality is why early reports
• 8:46
Speaker 1: from fall camp carry far more weight than any preseason
• 8:49
Speaker 1: watch list does. Those initial dispatches suggest Texas might possess
• 8:53
Speaker 1: the most complete roster in the SEC. Brad Crawford of
• 8:57
Speaker 1: CBS Sports reported that Jelani McDonald has generated a ton
• 9:01
Speaker 1: of noise to open camp, standing out as a vocal
• 9:03
Speaker 1: leader in a secondary that also features Bo Masco, Xavier Filsimi,
• 9:08
Speaker 1: Cade Phillips, and Grayson Littleton. McDonald already delivered 80 tackles
• 9:13
Speaker 1: and three pass breakups and three picks in 2025. He
• 9:18
Speaker 1: carries legitimate first-round buzz for the 2027 NFL Draft. On
• 9:22
Speaker 1: the offensive side of the ball, Eric Henry of Horns
• 9:24
Speaker 1: 247 reported that former five-star recruit Kalik Lockett is making
• 9:28
Speaker 1: a name for himself after catching just Five passes for
• 9:31
Speaker 1: 47 yards and a touchdown last season. If Lockett emerges
• 9:35
Speaker 1: as a reliable third option behind Coleman and Wingo, opposing
• 9:39
Speaker 1: defenses simply cannot double-team everyone. Sark sounded satisfied after the
• 9:43
Speaker 1: early part of fall camp. I thought Arch had a
• 9:45
Speaker 1: good day. I've seen a lot of rough quarterback days,
• 9:47
Speaker 1: but I thought he looked good. He praised strong runs
• 9:50
Speaker 1: from Hollywood Smothers and Michael Terry III, while also noting
• 9:55
Speaker 1: Jermaine Bishop's return to the offensive side of the ball.
• 9:58
Speaker 1: When asked how many starting jobs were truly up for grabs,
• 10:01
Speaker 1: Sark responded, a lot of them, before adding, this team
• 10:04
Speaker 1: is really deep, and we're going to need a lot
• 10:06
Speaker 1: of these bodies. The goal is to be quality too
• 10:09
Speaker 1: deep at every spot. Sark also pointed directly to the
• 10:13
Speaker 1: demanding schedule ahead, which includes nine conference games for the
• 10:16
Speaker 1: first time, plus a clash with Ohio State, along with
• 10:20
Speaker 1: matchups against Texas State and UTSA that both look like
• 10:23
Speaker 1: they could be bold teams this year. The most closely
• 10:26
Speaker 1: watched position battle is at left guard, where Lawrence Seymour,
• 10:31
Speaker 1: Jadon Chapman, and Devin Coleman are competing to protect Manning.
• 10:35
Speaker 1: In the secondary, Kobe Black and Derrick Williams Jr. are
• 10:38
Speaker 1: fighting for the starting safety role next to McDonald, while
• 10:40
Speaker 1: the edge spot opposite to Colin Simmons is still unsettled.
• 10:44
Speaker 1: Texas checked in at No. 4 in the USA Today
• 10:46
Speaker 1: coaches poll behind Ohio State, Oregon, and Georgia. They have
• 10:51
Speaker 1: seven ranked opponents on their schedule. For the first time
• 10:54
Speaker 1: in three years, the Longhorns entered fall camp without a
• 10:56
Speaker 1: ton of major injury concerns. Everything builds towards September 5th
• 11:01
Speaker 1: in the opener against Texas State at Royal Memorial Stadium.
• 11:04
Speaker 1: That matchup serves as the first real data point on
• 11:07
Speaker 1: whether any of this is real, especially after a 10-3
• 11:10
Speaker 1: finish in 2025 that saw Texas outside of the playoff.
• 11:14
Speaker 1: The national watch list closed in October and November 2021,
• 11:17
Speaker 1: while the depth chart gets locked in during August. Between
• 11:21
Speaker 1: those two dates, it's the one game that will decide
• 11:23
Speaker 1: how the rest of the season is judged, and it's
• 11:25
Speaker 1: already circled on every calendar in the building. You know
• 11:28
Speaker 1: what I'm talking about with the Ohio State-Texas game that'll
• 11:31
Speaker 1: happen in Week 2 in Austin. It's an opportunity for
• 11:34
Speaker 1: Texas to respond to last year's loss, and we'll see
• 11:37
Speaker 1: how they do. I'd love to hear your thoughts, your comments,
• 11:40
Speaker 1: your questions on Texas down in the comments. We appreciate
• 11:43
Speaker 1: you guys for tuning in to College Football Addiction.
