- 0:04Speaker 2: Ooh, you're scary.
- 0:06Speaker 1: We're bringing you the spookiest sports talk in town. With
- 0:12Speaker 1: Jacob Hester and Matt Lynn.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Terrifying and terrible.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Live from the haunted Raising Cane's.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Studio, here's Jacob Hester and Matt Lynn. Come on.
- 0:46Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in OTB, hour number three, live
- 0:51Speaker 4: from the Raising Cane Studio. It is Tuesday at 9 a.m.,
- 0:54Speaker 4: so that means our guy Nick Underhill, New Orleans Stock Football,
- 0:57Speaker 4: is going to join us now.
- 0:58Speaker 5: Nicholas, how we doing, sir?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Doing good. How you guys doing?
- 1:02Speaker 3: You're doing good?
- 1:03Speaker 5: You're doing good?
- 1:03Speaker 6: What?
- 1:04Speaker 5: We're over here hanging by a thread.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Come on. We're so sad over here.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I'm doing good, man. I'm doing good.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11Speaker 2: How you guys doing?
- 1:12Speaker 4: Again, hanging by a thread. Not a great football weekend.
- 1:15Speaker 4: You know, not the best football weekend.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Like, you know, LSU loss, the Saints loss, Tulane loss,
- 1:22Speaker 5: my Chargers loss. It's not a great football weekend. But
- 1:26Speaker 5: you're in a great mood, so that's good. So give
- 1:29Speaker 5: us the good word after you saw.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Why are you smiling?
- 1:32Speaker 4: Minnesota come in to the Superdome and give the Saints
- 1:35Speaker 4: another home loss.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not good. I mean, they're not good.
- 1:40Speaker 7: They're having bad days. I hope they're having bad days. Man,
- 1:44Speaker 7: that thing was tough, man. It's disheartening with the direction
- 1:48Speaker 7: of the team right now. I think there's even ways
- 1:50Speaker 7: to lose these games. And, you know, Tuesday morning after
- 1:54Speaker 7: the Lions game, you know, no big deal.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Tuesday morning after the Raiders game, no big deal.
- 1:59Speaker 7: I think expectations for the team probably– eight, nine wins,
- 2:03Speaker 7: like somewhere in there. So you're going to lose some games,
- 2:04Speaker 7: but I think it's the way they're losing them. That is, um,
- 2:07Speaker 7: confidence rattling. And it just feels like this collapse is
- 2:11Speaker 7: like accelerated in, in some ways. Like it just kind
- 2:14Speaker 7: of happened so fast. And, um, you know, being around it,
- 2:18Speaker 7: the behind the scenes, it feels like the timelines, like
- 2:21Speaker 7: just accelerated on, on just kind of like where moods
- 2:24Speaker 7: are at and where the feelings at. And, um, Obviously,
- 2:28Speaker 7: you go out, you have a great win against the Giants.
- 2:30Speaker 7: It's back on track. Two weeks ago, Drake May was
- 2:34Speaker 7: a fraud and the worst quarterback to ever live, and
- 2:37Speaker 7: him and Brable were... you know, allegedly not on the
- 2:41Speaker 7: same page and that, you know, so it's a disaster
- 2:43Speaker 7: and then they beat the bills and everything's back on track. Like,
- 2:46Speaker 7: so it's certainly in the season, you can turn things around,
- 2:49Speaker 7: but I feel like this is an incredibly critical game and,
- 2:54Speaker 7: you know, maybe you guys can speak to this, this point,
- 2:56Speaker 7: but you know, one thought I have is, you know,
- 2:59Speaker 7: if you lose to the giants and then Sunday night,
- 3:02Speaker 7: Monday morning, whatever it is, you jump on a plane
- 3:04Speaker 7: and you got to go fly to Paris and you're
- 3:06Speaker 7: just like trapped in this, like, little Petri dish of
- 3:09Speaker 7: emotion and stuck there for a week and you can't
- 3:12Speaker 7: go nowhere or anything. That feels like that could be
- 3:14Speaker 7: a incredibly challenging thing for the culture of the team.
- 3:19Speaker 7: If like they're just completely sequestered in there, you're just losing,
- 3:23Speaker 7: you can't do anything right. People are tapping on you
- 3:26Speaker 7: to be like the mascots and ambassadors of the NFL
- 3:28Speaker 7: and like another country. And it just feels like that
- 3:31Speaker 7: could be something that could be very, very bad for them.
- 3:34Speaker 7: I feel like they have to win this game this
- 3:36Speaker 7: week or it becomes incredibly challenging.
- 3:40Speaker 3: How do they do that? So it's hard to watch
- 3:43Speaker 3: that game this past weekend and say we lost, but
- 3:48Speaker 3: these things look good, but we're doing these things well.
- 3:52Speaker 3: It went from the first three weeks. Like we felt
- 3:54Speaker 3: pretty good about that one and two. Well, we don't
- 3:56Speaker 3: feel very good about where we're at right now. Like,
- 3:58Speaker 3: cause nothing looks good. Nothing looked like it's in sync.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Like the play calling looks bad, but it also looks
- 4:04Speaker 3: like you can't execute the plays you do have.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:08Speaker 7: This is where it gets tough for me because I've spent,
- 4:11Speaker 7: I've been covering the NFL 16 years now. Like, and
- 4:14Speaker 7: I just try to keep it about the football part.
- 4:15Speaker 7: And I don't really try to care about what people say, but.
- 4:18Speaker 7: the messaging here is getting tough too. I mean, it's
- 4:21Speaker 7: kind of what you said, like, well, we had this
- 4:22Speaker 7: good drive. Well, you had 11 drives or whatever it
- 4:25Speaker 7: was that were not good. Like, what about, like, what
- 4:28Speaker 7: about those? Like, it's just tough to hear about those things.
- 4:31Speaker 7: It's like, man, like, are you kidding me? And I
- 4:35Speaker 7: think it's just part of his nature too. Like if
- 4:36Speaker 7: you watch like Boise state interviews, he talked.
- 4:39Speaker 2: The same exact way. I think it's just, just who
- 4:41Speaker 2: he is.
- 4:41Speaker 7: He's going to kind of like verbally squirm through every
- 4:43Speaker 7: answer and try to get out of there as quick
- 4:45Speaker 7: as possible.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And that that's fine. But you know, I think that
- 4:47Speaker 2: stuff doesn't.
- 4:48Speaker 7: Help, but The fact that, like, the whole Chris Alabe
- 4:51Speaker 7: thing last week, so weird. Hey, man, like, we all
- 4:54Speaker 7: saw him get hit at the end of that game. Like,
- 4:56Speaker 7: it was a bad decision to have him out there. Fine,
- 4:59Speaker 7: you didn't have a major injury. Just say he got
- 5:02Speaker 7: banged up, and then he gets stepped on the next day,
- 5:04Speaker 7: and it just makes the whole thing look like this big, giant,
- 5:07Speaker 7: lying cover-up, and then everybody's talking about that, and it
- 5:09Speaker 7: becomes a distraction, and it's just a weird thing. And then,
- 5:12Speaker 7: you know, the Tyler Shuck thing is very weird, too,
- 5:14Speaker 7: how they're trying to act like, I mean, like, when
- 5:18Speaker 7: you're asked if the hand's broken and you can't say,
- 5:20Speaker 7: answer it, like, okay, we already know what it is. Like,
- 5:23Speaker 7: just say yes or, you know, whatever. But we see
- 5:26Speaker 7: the handoffs are weird. We see the run game's weird.
- 5:28Speaker 7: We see they're all kind of going one direction after, like,
- 5:31Speaker 7: the timing's off early in the game.
- 5:33Speaker 2: We see Tyler's not running the ball anymore.
- 5:35Speaker 7: Like, a simple explanation on that might help with, like,
- 5:37Speaker 7: the understanding of it. So, therefore, when people like us
- 5:40Speaker 7: three idiots are sitting around talking about it, like, we
- 5:42Speaker 7: got a little bit more insight in our And our
- 5:44Speaker 7: critiques are aimed instead of just shotgun blast at everything.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Well, okay, they can't do this. So like, how does
- 5:50Speaker 2: that affect things? How does that change?
- 5:52Speaker 7: But like, there's not even basic information on things. So,
- 5:56Speaker 7: you know, in a time like this, I actually do
- 5:58Speaker 7: think that stuff matters. And it's just, you know, it's
- 6:02Speaker 7: not something I even like talking about. I don't like
- 6:04Speaker 7: complaining about it because if they, if their record was
- 6:06Speaker 7: flipped and we're complaining about the interview answers, people are
- 6:08Speaker 7: just telling us, you know, you're whining, shut up.
- 6:10Speaker 2: And like, I get it.
- 6:11Speaker 7: Like, and you should, but right now it's just all
- 6:13Speaker 7: kind of, it just all feels weird, man. Like it
- 6:16Speaker 7: just all feels like, like underbaked and just not ready.
- 6:21Speaker 5: The saints don't have an identity. I think that's clear.
- 6:24Speaker 4: But if I was to ask you, what do they
- 6:26Speaker 4: think their identity is or what are they trying to
- 6:28Speaker 4: make their identity? Like, what would you say right now?
- 6:31Speaker 4: Because I can't put a, an identity on this team.
- 6:34Speaker 4: If you gave me a hundred tries.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah. It's kind of like.
- 6:39Speaker 7: Someone said this to me and it felt very apt
- 6:41Speaker 7: after this game and said, it's almost kind of like battleship.
- 6:44Speaker 7: like on offense, like they're just kind of, they're just
- 6:46Speaker 7: kind of hoping they hit something and they're doing it.
- 6:49Speaker 7: And it's kind of like, you got your run game
- 6:51Speaker 7: over here and you got your past game over here.
- 6:53Speaker 7: You got two offenses that you're kind of just randomly
- 6:55Speaker 7: calling plays from, and it isn't sequenced together. And, um,
- 6:59Speaker 7: you know, there's no play action connecting it, by the way,
- 7:01Speaker 7: like if his hands messed up, like maybe that's a
- 7:03Speaker 7: reason why, like maybe that, that fakes an effective or
- 7:06Speaker 7: dangerous or something like, you know, maybe you can't, maybe
- 7:08Speaker 7: that's part of it too, but their, their play action
- 7:11Speaker 7: in the second half of games like disappears. Um, It's
- 7:15Speaker 7: even before his hand was messed up. Very, very strange
- 7:17Speaker 7: thing with that. First half of games, like it's kind
- 7:20Speaker 7: of their second half is just gone. I also don't understand, like,
- 7:25Speaker 7: you know, he's asked about, you know, no screens, no,
- 7:28Speaker 7: no screens. Last year was something we used to talk
- 7:30Speaker 7: about on here all the time. Play action. He's like,
- 7:33Speaker 7: we can't get to it. It gets too drop back.
- 7:35Speaker 7: He like, well, just call it. If you want to
- 7:38Speaker 7: run a play action, just call it. If you want
- 7:40Speaker 7: to run a screen, just call it. You ran the
- 7:42Speaker 7: ball six out of your first eight first downs. One
- 7:45Speaker 7: of those could have been a play action. First down
- 7:47Speaker 7: is the most popular play action down in the NFL.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I don't understand. We can't get to it. Well, you can.
- 7:53Speaker 7: And when the game's within eight, you're calling them at
- 7:55Speaker 7: the lowest rate in the entire NFL. So I don't
- 7:59Speaker 7: understand the difficulties that they believe they're facing and kind
- 8:03Speaker 7: of sequencing their plays.
- 8:04Speaker 2: But I agree.
- 8:05Speaker 7: There is no identity there. They tried to change their
- 8:07Speaker 7: run game to be more outside zone this year. That
- 8:09Speaker 7: isn't working for them. You know, I feel like they
- 8:12Speaker 7: got offensive linemen that are built to, you know, be
- 8:16Speaker 7: outside zone players. And then it's just kind of, just
- 8:19Speaker 7: kind of nothing goes together right now. And I would
- 8:21Speaker 7: say that that's the damning thing for them right now.
- 8:23Speaker 7: And again, if they win a game, like all that,
- 8:25Speaker 7: like everything turns and, you know, it puts some patience
- 8:28Speaker 7: into everything, but to have an offensive head coach, to
- 8:32Speaker 7: where you spent the whole off season adding your offense
- 8:35Speaker 7: and granted there's some injuries right now. But, like, you
- 8:38Speaker 7: can't be bad on offense and have no offensive identity
- 8:40Speaker 7: when your whole team's been built on offense. The whole
- 8:43Speaker 7: idea of hiring an offensive head coach was to have
- 8:45Speaker 7: the in-house offensive identity that you build upon, and then
- 8:49Speaker 7: nobody can steal it. Nobody can hire it away. And
- 8:51Speaker 7: that was the whole thing. Like, okay, he's 35. He
- 8:55Speaker 7: might need time to develop, but he has this offense. So, like,
- 8:57Speaker 7: maybe the game management stuff's a little bit spotty, but
- 9:00Speaker 7: the offense is going to be so on point and
- 9:02Speaker 7: they can grow into it.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Okay, fine.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah, sure.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I can buy that idea. But that isn't what it
- 9:06Speaker 2: is right now.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, so I was listening to you talk
- 9:09Speaker 3: about the play action. It's like, you're not going to have,
- 9:12Speaker 3: there's no way to have a effective play action game
- 9:15Speaker 3: when your quarterback, when he hands the ball off, it
- 9:17Speaker 3: looks like he's given the running back soft serve ice
- 9:20Speaker 3: cream in a cone. Like that's what it looks like.
- 9:22Speaker 3: He's handed to him. So like you can't fake that.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Like it's hard to, it's hard to play action off that.
- 9:27Speaker 3: So you see it all the time, coordinators and head coaches,
- 9:31Speaker 3: like when you have, when you're playing with injuries and,
- 9:36Speaker 3: you help your team out, just get completions. And that's
- 9:39Speaker 3: where the screen game comes down. You give your guys
- 9:42Speaker 3: easy completions. And if I had to pick an identity
- 9:45Speaker 3: for the offense, it's been Chuck and Alave, right? But
- 9:49Speaker 3: when you take everything away from them, they can't compete.
- 9:51Speaker 3: And you go against a good defense like that. So
- 9:54Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't, I had a hard time
- 9:55Speaker 3: watching the game and seeing the silver lining in the situation.
- 9:59Speaker 3: And then my, my kid's heartbroken over there. Cause he
- 10:02Speaker 3: loses fantasy. Cause Tyler shut, got him one and a
- 10:04Speaker 3: half points. I don't want to see that anymore.
- 10:06Speaker 6: It's brutal.
- 10:09Speaker 7: Yeah. I, yeah. Him in a lobby or definitely the
- 10:11Speaker 7: identity of the team. That's kind of the only good
- 10:13Speaker 7: thing to have going right now.
- 10:14Speaker 2: But yeah, it.
- 10:17Speaker 7: Like, On one hand, you kind of expected this game
- 10:20Speaker 7: to go like this, but then it's.
- 10:22Speaker 2: So punchless, like the way it looks.
- 10:24Speaker 7: Like you expected Brian Flores to make life hard on
- 10:26Speaker 7: Tyler Schuch.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Like that's what he does.
- 10:28Speaker 7: He's a young quarterback. But it was like they had
- 10:31Speaker 7: nothing to help him. That's the problem. It's like we're
- 10:33Speaker 7: going to just– we're going to put our running back
- 10:36Speaker 7: in the A gap and there's going to be nothing.
- 10:38Speaker 7: And he's going to be sitting so far up. We
- 10:40Speaker 7: have no play action going. We have nothing going. We
- 10:42Speaker 7: have no screen game going. So it's like even when
- 10:44Speaker 7: you have a guy in the backfield, there's nothing that's
- 10:46Speaker 7: even– slowing them down because like you're relying one way
- 10:49Speaker 7: every time.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, sure.
- 10:50Speaker 7: At certain times, like you probably do got to set
- 10:52Speaker 7: up like that to give your QB a little bit
- 10:54Speaker 7: of time and you don't care if they know if
- 10:55Speaker 7: you're passing, but it was just everything they did just
- 10:58Speaker 7: kind of like, I get so annoyed when people are like,
- 11:01Speaker 7: it's predictable, but this is like legitimately predictable. Like you,
- 11:05Speaker 7: you just see it. Like you just see what they're
- 11:06Speaker 7: going to do every time. Oh, CJ Donaldson's out there
- 11:09Speaker 7: and they're lined up under center.
- 11:10Speaker 5: Well, okay.
- 11:11Speaker 7: That like, we know what's happening here. Oh, CJ Donaldson's
- 11:13Speaker 7: out there and they're in shotgun.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Okay.
- 11:15Speaker 2: We know what's going to happen here.
- 11:16Speaker 7: Um, it's just kind of everything they're doing, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 7: you can see what they're, they're trying to accomplish right
- 11:21Speaker 7: off rip. And then, you know, some of the stuff
- 11:23Speaker 7: they were doing well last year, attacking the seams and
- 11:25Speaker 7: all that stuff.
- 11:26Speaker 2: You look since week one, they.
- 11:27Speaker 7: They have not completed a pass between the hashes and
- 11:30Speaker 7: it's not, I don't think that that's a shuck thing necessarily. Um,
- 11:33Speaker 7: he attacked that area of the field all last year.
- 11:35Speaker 7: It's just kind of, you look and there's not a
- 11:37Speaker 7: lot happening there. And like, they're really good, good on
- 11:40Speaker 7: slants this year. I think 11 or 13 completing them, like,
- 11:43Speaker 7: but they don't really lean into it too much. They're
- 11:44Speaker 7: good on crossing routes, but they don't really like lean
- 11:46Speaker 7: on them. Um, It's kind of like everything's outside the numbers.
- 11:50Speaker 7: And look, if Chris is out there, that's kind of
- 11:52Speaker 7: where I want all my dots on the throw chart
- 11:53Speaker 7: to be. But you got to hit some stuff, you know,
- 11:56Speaker 7: over the middle at times. And like that aspect of
- 11:59Speaker 7: the offense has disappeared too. Now I don't think Tyler
- 12:02Speaker 7: can run if this hand's actually messed up. Like you
- 12:04Speaker 7: probably don't want him, you know, doing the Josh Allen scrambles.
- 12:09Speaker 5: So I don't know.
- 12:10Speaker 7: I don't know what they're supposed to be right now.
- 12:11Speaker 7: I think they're in a very, very critical place. And,
- 12:14Speaker 7: you know, you can figure it out and beat the Giants.
- 12:16Speaker 7: But if like Jameis beats you.
- 12:19Speaker 2: That's going to be loud, man. I think it's going
- 12:21Speaker 2: to be loud.
- 12:21Speaker 3: When do you start talking about a hot seat?
- 12:25Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, it's a great question.
- 12:27Speaker 7: When, when do we start talking about a hot seat or,
- 12:30Speaker 7: or when do they start talking about a hot seat?
- 12:32Speaker 2: Like, I think if.
- 12:34Speaker 7: They lose this game, you know, I think next Tuesday,
- 12:38Speaker 7: like we're, we're probably, yeah.
- 12:39Speaker 5: All right.
- 12:40Speaker 2: If they lose this game here. Yeah. They lose this game. Okay.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Like now you're going into Paris. I don't know. I
- 12:49Speaker 2: don't know if they can survive two lot.
- 12:51Speaker 7: Like, I don't know if you can lose two losses
- 12:54Speaker 7: in a row and then take that flight back and
- 12:56Speaker 7: everybody's okay.
- 12:57Speaker 2: When they land, they got, it's just really.
- 13:00Speaker 5: We've heard it.
- 13:01Speaker 3: We've heard it must wins. Is this a must one-on-one
- 13:03Speaker 3: right now in the next two weeks?
- 13:05Speaker 2: I think so. Yeah. Here's the thing though.
- 13:07Speaker 7: I don't think they would make a move right now,
- 13:10Speaker 7: but I think the seeds could be sown.
- 13:13Speaker 5: It would start a real conversation behind the scenes of,
- 13:16Speaker 5: What do we do? What can we do? What's the
- 13:18Speaker 5: future look like, right?
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, because, like, let's just.
- 13:23Speaker 7: Play through it right now. You got a young quarterback,
- 13:25Speaker 7: Tyler Matters. Like, you know, all that stuff, his development,
- 13:27Speaker 7: and it's the most important thing for your team. If
- 13:30Speaker 7: you had Jack Cullen, who's even calling plays?
- 13:34Speaker 4: That's a great point because there's not, like, a Pete
- 13:36Speaker 4: Carmichael on the staff.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Scott Tolzien.
- 13:41Speaker 7: It could be like it told Z would probably be like,
- 13:43Speaker 7: I don't, I don't know that Nussmeyer is doing it. Like,
- 13:45Speaker 7: I just, I don't even know where you go from there.
- 13:47Speaker 7: So even from that point of view, like Staley, I
- 13:49Speaker 7: think would be a great interim coach, but like, I
- 13:52Speaker 7: don't think, I don't think that you, I don't think
- 13:54Speaker 7: it'd be the good thing for, for, for your quarterback.
- 13:56Speaker 7: So even if you decided now, um, look, I run
- 13:58Speaker 7: a business. I decided people are fired all the time
- 14:00Speaker 7: and like, they don't know until months later when, you know,
- 14:03Speaker 7: everything's in place. That's just kind of how stuff goes.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Um, so yeah, I don't know. I don't know that, uh, Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 2: I don't know that.
- 14:12Speaker 6: That would be the right thing.
- 14:13Speaker 5: I've heard Flynn have to fire somebody and him talk
- 14:16Speaker 5: about it for three or four weeks.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I've heard him go through that. You had a great
- 14:22Speaker 3: answer to that. When does it get hot actually? And
- 14:25Speaker 3: then when does it get hot with the fan base?
- 14:27Speaker 3: But I think we've seen with Derek Carr, if it
- 14:30Speaker 3: gets hot with the fan base, I don't know if
- 14:32Speaker 3: there's any returning. And he's not doing himself any favors
- 14:35Speaker 3: with how he answers questions and presents himself and talks like,
- 14:40Speaker 3: though the furthest thing from candidly with the fans or
- 14:44Speaker 3: to the fans, at least I was saints fan base, man.
- 14:47Speaker 3: If they turn on you, there ain't no going back.
- 14:50Speaker 7: See that you make a great point there. Cause like I,
- 14:52Speaker 7: like I said, I hate talking about it and I
- 14:54Speaker 7: hate being the person that complains about it, but I
- 14:57Speaker 7: really do think in a disaster time, you gotta, you
- 15:00Speaker 7: gotta just open up a little bit. You don't have
- 15:02Speaker 7: to give anything away, but right. You can aim the critiques.
- 15:06Speaker 7: I'm a person that critiques for, unfortunately, and I hate
- 15:10Speaker 7: looking at it like that, but I'm a person that
- 15:12Speaker 7: critiques for a living. And if I have the information
- 15:14Speaker 7: on why something happened and how it broke, I'm going
- 15:18Speaker 7: to explain that instead of being like, I don't know
- 15:20Speaker 7: what he's doing. And I don't know what he's doing
- 15:22Speaker 7: enough times. And we're all looking at it and we're like,
- 15:25Speaker 7: I don't know what he's doing. That's a bad place
- 15:27Speaker 7: to be. That's how things get hotter faster. But if
- 15:29Speaker 7: there's a little slowdown, at least a speed bump, hey, look,
- 15:33Speaker 7: they were trying to do this. Hey, they didn't play
- 15:35Speaker 7: action because Tyler's hand is broken. That offsets, you know,
- 15:39Speaker 7: a lot of what's being talked about right now.
- 15:41Speaker 2: But there's that piece of information isn't there. So, yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 15:44Speaker 7: But look, also, not just Derek Carr, Dennis Allen, like
- 15:48Speaker 7: football didn't want to fire him.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Mickey didn't want to fire him. They tried to stand
- 15:52Speaker 2: in the way of that. It got loud enough. It
- 15:53Speaker 2: got hard enough.
- 15:54Speaker 7: Gail Benson said, hey, you know what? Like Nah, like
- 15:57Speaker 7: this isn't happening. Get them out of here. Like this
- 15:59Speaker 7: is done today. So yeah, I mean, it does matter.
- 16:02Speaker 7: Like oftentimes people get fired in the fan base, in
- 16:05Speaker 7: the media before, before they do in real.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Catching up with the guy, Nick Underhill, new Orleans, South
- 16:10Speaker 4: football here on OTB. I do want to get at
- 16:12Speaker 4: least one question on the other side of the football.
- 16:16Speaker 4: And we were talking about this yesterday.
- 16:18Speaker 5: The draft.
- 16:21Speaker 4: And if it doesn't play out the way that it did,
- 16:23Speaker 4: the chiefs don't move up. do you think there's a
- 16:25Speaker 4: real chance the Saints would have gone after Mansoor Delane?
- 16:28Speaker 4: Because when I watch the Saints on defense, there is
- 16:31Speaker 4: not one corner that I would say, oh yeah, I
- 16:34Speaker 4: feel good about that matchup with him on their one.
- 16:37Speaker 5: And I think that's a problem. And honestly, Nick, it's like,
- 16:41Speaker 5: do they have a, do they have like a two?
- 16:44Speaker 5: Like that's what it feels like right now at corner
- 16:46Speaker 5: for the Saints. Like they have nobody like, Justin Jefferson,
- 16:49Speaker 5: like who's going to cover that guy this week? Malik neighbors.
- 16:52Speaker 4: Who's going to cover Malik had 20 targets last game, 20.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Like who's going to cover that guy. We could go
- 16:58Speaker 4: on and on and on down the same schedule. And
- 17:00Speaker 4: I just wonder like if, if my sword lane would
- 17:03Speaker 4: have been there, if they would have made the moves
- 17:05Speaker 4: or an asset to ask if they felt good enough
- 17:08Speaker 4: at what they had at corner to go forward this season.
- 17:12Speaker 7: So, you know, The last several drafts, I've prepared one
- 17:16Speaker 7: or two stories for every draft, and one or two
- 17:19Speaker 7: of those people have gotten drafted every time. So there
- 17:22Speaker 7: was one guy that we recorded a 45-minute podcast for
- 17:26Speaker 7: and wrote an article on and had it ready and
- 17:29Speaker 7: published it before Roger Goodell went up.
- 17:32Speaker 2: And it was on Jordan Tyson.
- 17:33Speaker 7: We had a story, a secondary story prepared on Sonny
- 17:36Speaker 7: Stiles in case he had fallen, and I thought Sonny Stiles.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Would have been the pick.
- 17:40Speaker 5: Oh, I've been listening.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Like I thought that would have been it.
- 17:44Speaker 7: And then the third guy that we were kind of
- 17:45Speaker 7: really thinking that, that it could have been for a
- 17:48Speaker 7: while until it became incredibly clear. There wasn't going to
- 17:51Speaker 7: be a path to move up to get him was
- 17:53Speaker 7: Jeremiah love. Like that was the other guy early on,
- 17:55Speaker 7: maybe through February. It was like, okay, like we're hearing
- 17:58Speaker 7: some stuff, credible rumors. And yeah, like I think they
- 18:03Speaker 7: might try to do this. And then even, even leading
- 18:06Speaker 7: up to the draft, like there was some stuff about
- 18:07Speaker 7: calls and it's like, this could be, they could be
- 18:09Speaker 7: trying to do this, but, It kind of became clear, like,
- 18:12Speaker 7: at some point in February that it wasn't going to
- 18:14Speaker 7: be that.
- 18:15Speaker 2: But, you know, like.
- 18:18Speaker 7: Delane was someone that I had heard that they liked,
- 18:22Speaker 7: but the way, like, where that name was listed in
- 18:25Speaker 7: the order, like, it wasn't something where I'm going to
- 18:28Speaker 7: extend that.
- 18:28Speaker 4: So they felt good about Ulay McKinstry being a number
- 18:31Speaker 4: one corner.
- 18:33Speaker 7: Or they felt, look, as I look at Kellen Moore,
- 18:38Speaker 7: why was he great in Philadelphia?
- 18:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 7: He had an all-world offensive line. He had two number
- 18:44Speaker 7: one wide receivers. He had the best running back of
- 18:47Speaker 7: all time. He had Dallas Goddard at tight end. I
- 18:51Speaker 7: think that their idea for success is just load up
- 18:55Speaker 7: on offense and you can kind of call whatever and
- 18:58Speaker 7: it works if you have enough guys. You can be
- 19:01Speaker 7: just this aggressive play caller. You just call whatever. Okay, look,
- 19:05Speaker 7: our first halves aren't working well. They worked in Philly
- 19:08Speaker 7: because they had all these players. I don't know that
- 19:10Speaker 7: he's suddenly... has forgotten how to prepare for a game
- 19:12Speaker 7: or script 15 plays.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I think just maybe the firepower is different.
- 19:15Speaker 7: So I think it, you know, their idea is if
- 19:18Speaker 7: you have so much on offense, everything works. Like there's
- 19:21Speaker 7: an answer for everything. If you, if you just show
- 19:23Speaker 7: up with answers and you're prepared. So I think they
- 19:26Speaker 7: just wanted to build out the offense first and have
- 19:28Speaker 7: that be the reason that they're winning games. And that's why,
- 19:30Speaker 7: you know, when you're not winning games and offense isn't good,
- 19:33Speaker 7: that's why you're looking at it. But no, I don't
- 19:35Speaker 7: know that they, they felt like Kool-Aid was, you know,
- 19:37Speaker 7: Marshall and Lattimore. I think they kind of, know that
- 19:40Speaker 7: he's solid. And yeah, I think next offseason, it's pure
- 19:44Speaker 7: Brandon Staley. Go get all your guys. Until then, find
- 19:48Speaker 7: a way to survive. And I would say out of
- 19:50Speaker 7: all the things happening right now, I think Atlanta game aside,
- 19:53Speaker 7: I do think Staley is probably getting every drop that
- 19:56Speaker 7: he can out of his talent level. I don't think
- 19:59Speaker 7: they're the major issue, especially when you look at how
- 20:02Speaker 7: the team's built.
- 20:04Speaker 5: All right, there he is, our guy, Nick Underhill.
- 20:05Speaker 4: NewOrleans.football joins us every single Tuesday here on OTB.
- 20:09Speaker 5: Nicholas, we appreciate the time as always, sir.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Flynn really brought it today, man. I felt like he
- 20:15Speaker 2: brought some good stuff out of this conversation.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Thanks, brother. Good energy today. All right, guys. All right, Nick.
- 20:22Speaker 5: Positive vibes.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Well, real positive vibes today. I told you. I told
- 20:26Speaker 3: you guys. Ninja get up.
- 20:28Speaker 5: No, from Nick, not from you.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know. He gave me a great question.
- 20:32Speaker 5: Not a good. You were Debbie Downer yesterday. Everything we said,
- 20:36Speaker 5: you're like, nope.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I'm surprised you didn't cry yesterday. You're so sad.
- 20:42Speaker 5: At least I care.
- 20:46Speaker 3: I do care.
- 20:47Speaker 5: I'm not going.
- 20:50Speaker 3: To paint everything rose-colored over here.
- 20:54Speaker 6: Ain't no shape.
- 20:57Speaker 5: What color are you going to paint it?
- 20:59Speaker 3: Probably just regular gold.
- 21:05Speaker 4: Go to ktozblinds.com, ktozblinds.com, KTOZ Interiors and Outdoor Living. But
- 21:11Speaker 4: in the game since 2004, have Brandon Barton and team
- 21:14Speaker 4: come out to your space. Say it every day because
- 21:16Speaker 4: it's factual. Know your space, learn your space, change your
- 21:19Speaker 4: space in a matter of minutes. Done it for me,
- 21:20Speaker 4: they'll do it for you. They can do it inside
- 21:23Speaker 4: and outside, outside and inside. And look, I got a
- 21:25Speaker 4: motorized screen on the patio and it changes that space
- 21:28Speaker 4: and it also changes the living room and how the
- 21:30Speaker 4: sun comes in and the energy bills. So schedule that
- 21:34Speaker 4: consultation today. Again, ktozblinds.com. More OTB when we come back
- 21:39Speaker 4: here live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 21:42Speaker 8: Off the bench.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn. Presented
- 22:11Speaker 1: by Community Steel.
- 22:12Speaker 8: All right, welcome back in OTV.
- 22:26Speaker 4: We are going to be at Rouse's again on Friday.
- 22:28Speaker 4: It's a football Friday. Home games, away games, night games,
- 22:31Speaker 4: day games, 11 a.m.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Games. It does not matter. We'll be there. So on Friday...
- 22:37Speaker 5: Since it is an early game, come pick up your
- 22:39Speaker 5: tailgating packages.
- 22:41Speaker 4: They're already pre-made. They're ready to go. They make it
- 22:43Speaker 4: incredibly easy for you. That's at any of your local Rouses.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Go to Rouses.com to find a location that's most convenient
- 22:49Speaker 4: for you.
- 22:50Speaker 5: Come hang out with us, though, on Friday morning.
- 22:52Speaker 4: Have a little breakfast bar, a little sushi bar.
- 22:54Speaker 5: A little bit of everything there.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Better get there earlier or it's going to be gone.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Because your boys are going to be eating it.
- 23:01Speaker 5: The eggs and hash browns, that is for sure.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Doesn't stand a chance.
- 23:05Speaker 5: Hates to see Flynn coming. Brosses.com.
- 23:10Speaker 4: All that Kellen Moore talk, and I'm not trying to
- 23:12Speaker 4: put a coach in the grave right now, but it's
- 23:15Speaker 4: got to get better. And if you go 0-2, and
- 23:19Speaker 4: you're coming back across the pond from Perry, it's.
- 23:23Speaker 5: Going to be some real conversations.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Nick.
- 23:28Speaker 5: Nick didn't say that for no reason.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Nick didn't say that for no reason. And then he
- 23:32Speaker 3: expanded on that towards the end of that conversation about
- 23:35Speaker 3: Kellen Moore and said, look, You look at the past.
- 23:40Speaker 3: He had the best receivers, the best running back, the
- 23:42Speaker 3: best line. That's how he was successful. So, I don't
- 23:48Speaker 3: know what he was really getting at there, you know.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Well, you mentioned they tried to overload.
- 23:55Speaker 4: They tried to have Jordan Tyson, Chris Alave, Devon Bailey,
- 23:58Speaker 4: Juwan Johnson. They went and signed A-Chan at running back
- 24:01Speaker 4: for 53 milli. They signed Edwards at guard. I think
- 24:06Speaker 4: he I think the whole point was they tried to
- 24:08Speaker 4: overload the offense. The problem is, ATN's hurt. They haven't
- 24:13Speaker 4: been able to run the football. We couldn't find Jordan
- 24:16Speaker 4: Tyson right now with a search warrant.
- 24:18Speaker 5: I haven't seen him.
- 24:20Speaker 3: What about all those first-rounders on the line, though? Got
- 24:22Speaker 3: to be doing pretty good there.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Well, the one that was doing good is on IR.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Oh, shoot.
- 24:30Speaker 5: And again, this conversation is not close. I don't think
- 24:34Speaker 5: it's happening. No, no, it's not.
- 24:35Speaker 4: But if the Saints... If they do make a move,
- 24:40Speaker 4: I would love to see a different personality, I think.
- 24:47Speaker 4: It's not to say that that personality, like, that can't win,
- 24:50Speaker 4: but it's not hitting right now.
- 24:52Speaker 5: With this football team. I don't know. I just– I
- 24:56Speaker 5: don't know. I don't see what you need to see, like,
- 25:02Speaker 5: week in and week out.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Well– For a team that's not having success, you're not
- 25:10Speaker 3: getting what you want. The fan base isn't getting what
- 25:13Speaker 3: they want. Okay, I see the product on the field.
- 25:18Speaker 3: It's not what we want, but come on, coach, tell
- 25:21Speaker 3: me why. Give me a reason to believe. Give me
- 25:24Speaker 3: a reason to hope. Tell me, show me, make me comfortable.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Give me some comfort in knowing that there's a method
- 25:30Speaker 3: to the madness. There's a plan in place. Here's why
- 25:33Speaker 3: it's not working now. but this is what I have
- 25:35Speaker 3: to look forward to. Give me something. As a fan base,
- 25:39Speaker 3: a fan base deserves that. Bill Belichick, his whole spiel
- 25:46Speaker 3: with the media was cute because they won. If they
- 25:49Speaker 3: were bad, people would be like, well, this guy's a prick.
- 25:52Speaker 3: You know what I mean? They still said that, but
- 25:55Speaker 3: they're like, hey, it doesn't matter. He's winning. I'm not
- 25:57Speaker 3: comparing that to what Kellen Moore does, but he doesn't
- 26:00Speaker 3: give you anything. When you're bad and trying to build
- 26:05Speaker 3: franchise with a young quarterback like this fan base is
- 26:09Speaker 3: powerful man we talked about it like if you get
- 26:12Speaker 3: in bad graces with the fan base there's really like
- 26:15Speaker 3: there's really no coming back it is tough to come
- 26:18Speaker 3: back from if not impossible.
- 26:20Speaker 5: So like.
- 26:22Speaker 3: It's not good on the field tell me why explain
- 26:25Speaker 3: to me the path forward explain to me what the
- 26:27Speaker 3: future holds explain to me what the plan is to
- 26:32Speaker 3: be better yeah why should i still be excited as
- 26:35Speaker 3: a fan base, because what you showed on the film,
- 26:38Speaker 3: what you showed on the field is the furthest thing
- 26:42Speaker 3: from exciting me about the future.
- 26:45Speaker 5: I'm right there with you.
- 26:46Speaker 4: And I look, I had a chance to catch up
- 26:47Speaker 4: with 16 or 17 NFL head coaches this off season
- 26:51Speaker 4: in person. And so I got a chance to see
- 26:53Speaker 4: how they work. I got a chance to see how
- 26:55Speaker 4: they interact with their players. I got a chance to
- 26:57Speaker 4: kind of feel their energy through an interview as well.
- 27:01Speaker 5: And, There's a lot of different ways to do it.
- 27:03Speaker 5: There is.
- 27:04Speaker 4: But the ones that are the best just think that
- 27:08Speaker 4: they do everything that you just said. They make you
- 27:13Speaker 4: believe everything that you say. And if it's not going right,
- 27:16Speaker 4: the words that come next are very believable and you
- 27:19Speaker 4: buy into it. Even Todd Munkin, who's with the Cleveland Browns.
- 27:25Speaker 4: I was like, this football team I don't think is
- 27:27Speaker 4: very good. I watched practice today. They got some deficiencies.
- 27:31Speaker 4: And My co-host, Pat Kerwin, had never met Todd before.
- 27:35Speaker 5: He goes, well, I know why you're so high on
- 27:37Speaker 5: Todd now.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:38Speaker 5: After meeting him. Right? Like, that.
- 27:43Speaker 4: You just need to get some of that. Like, a
- 27:45Speaker 4: lot of people, you know, I remember when Dan Campbell
- 27:48Speaker 4: got hired and Hunt and Moscona made fun of his
- 27:51Speaker 4: kneecaps biting or whatever.
- 27:52Speaker 5: I was like, poof. You kidding me? I would take
- 27:55Speaker 5: that ish right now. Right now.
- 27:58Speaker 3: What if he really bit a kneecap, though?
- 28:01Speaker 5: I'd double it.
- 28:01Speaker 6: I'd be like, He'd probably get fired because that's illegal.
- 28:05Speaker 5: No, that's fine. If he's fighting, I don't care. But
- 28:08Speaker 5: like when Dan Campbell like walked into the room, it
- 28:12Speaker 5: was like a jolt of energy.
- 28:15Speaker 6: That's what you got to have because you hired Kellen
- 28:19Speaker 6: Moore philosophically because he was everything Dennis Allen wasn't, right?
- 28:23Speaker 6: Like you hired Dennis Allen. He's a veteran coach, a
- 28:25Speaker 6: defensive-minded guy. Hey, let's go with the guy who's considered
- 28:29Speaker 6: a really good offensive coach, the young guy, hasn't been
- 28:31Speaker 6: a head coach before. Really the only similarities between Kellen
- 28:35Speaker 6: Moore and Dennis Allen is their subdued personality, and he
- 28:38Speaker 6: hasn't worked in two cycles now.
- 28:44Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 28:45Speaker 4: You don't have the answers right now, but I would
- 28:47Speaker 4: like to have the study guide.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:52Speaker 5: Tell me what it looks like.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Yeah. What's that thing they give you at the beginning
- 28:55Speaker 3: of the school year?
- 28:57Speaker 5: Syllabus.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Right?
- 28:58Speaker 5: Syllabus. Syllabus.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Syllabus.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Syllabus.
- 29:01Speaker 5: Syllabus. Syllabus.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Syllabus. I want the syllabus.
- 29:05Speaker 5: Hey, I worked it out before you got there. It's
- 29:08Speaker 5: probably a word. I haven't said syllabus in a long time.
- 29:10Speaker 3: Like collegiate. No.
- 29:12Speaker 5: You know? No, I just haven't said it in a
- 29:13Speaker 5: long time. Like, you know? And I worked myself there.
- 29:15Speaker 5: You did.
- 29:16Speaker 3: You found it. I'm proud of you.
- 29:19Speaker 5: Thank you. I'll take a syllabus. I'll take a study guide.
- 29:25Speaker 5: I'll take some note cards, flash cards. Something.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Just show me how to get there. Right now, I'm
- 29:35Speaker 4: going into the test. I just went to the union,
- 29:39Speaker 4: bought my schedule. got me a pencil, and that's the
- 29:43Speaker 4: only prep that I did.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Yeah, because as of right now, I've been taking a
- 29:48Speaker 3: test with a number three pencil, and you're not telling
- 29:50Speaker 3: me that I need a number two. I failed every
- 29:55Speaker 3: single one of them because of it.
- 29:56Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a lie. Number three, pencil.
- 30:01Speaker 3: No, Mom and Dad, it's just I had the wrong pencil.
- 30:04Speaker 5: All right, we'll take a break. That made me sad.
- 30:08Speaker 5: Saints make me sad right now.
- 30:10Speaker 3: What makes you happy?
- 30:12Speaker 5: Telling me how they're going to be better from the
- 30:15Speaker 5: head coach.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Telling me why they're going to run the football better
- 30:18Speaker 4: from the head coach. Not thinking about Kool-Aid McKinstry covering
- 30:23Speaker 4: Malik Neighbors.
- 30:26Speaker 5: Those things. Who's going to cover Isaiah Likely?
- 30:31Speaker 3: He got a little banged up last game.
- 30:32Speaker 5: Who? Likely. And he likely had 11 catches. So did Malik.
- 30:39Speaker 5: They both had 11 catches.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Yeah, we're going to get right game for the Saints.
- 30:42Speaker 5: All right, more OTB when we come back.
- 30:45Speaker 6: Off the bench.
- 30:46Speaker 4: All right, go to FABT.com, FABT.com, First American Bank and Trust.
- 30:53Speaker 5: They've been in the game since 1910. That was a
- 30:55Speaker 5: long time ago. You stay in business, Matt. Over 100
- 30:59Speaker 5: years if you're doing things the wrong way?
- 31:02Speaker 3: Probably not likely.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Well done.
- 31:06Speaker 4: They have been in South Louisiana since then. They've stood
- 31:09Speaker 4: a long time here because they do things the right way.
- 31:12Speaker 4: And they make you feel like a relationship because it
- 31:15Speaker 4: is a relationship.
- 31:15Speaker 5: You're a name. You're a face. They know you. You
- 31:18Speaker 5: know them. You're not just another account number. Those decisions
- 31:21Speaker 5: are made right here.
- 31:23Speaker 4: In South Louisiana. They don't call and ask for permission.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Go to FABT.com today.
- 31:26Speaker 3: That's right, FABT.com, the website for First American Bank and Trust,
- 31:31Speaker 3: your Louisiana bank that you should trust for any personal
- 31:34Speaker 3: need that you have. Maybe it's a mortgage. Maybe it's
- 31:36Speaker 3: a line of credit or a commercial need, a commercial loan.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Maybe you started a business right here in Louisiana. You'd
- 31:42Speaker 3: need a little bit more capital, a little bit more runway. Well,
- 31:45Speaker 3: make sure you're doing it with somebody that's here in
- 31:46Speaker 3: Louisiana making those local decisions. FABT.com.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn. Presented
- 31:58Speaker 1: by Community Steel.
- 32:32Speaker 3: All right, welcome back here. Off the bench. In the
- 32:39Speaker 3: capital city. Tuesday show brought to you by Community Steel. Hey, Tay-Tay.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Quick question for you.
- 32:47Speaker 5: What's up? Razor.
- 32:49Speaker 3: Is he kind of grown into being a football fan
- 32:53Speaker 3: yet or what?
- 32:54Speaker 6: Kind of. Man, we want him to stop crying when
- 32:56Speaker 6: we stick him in front of that TV. Oh, dude,
- 32:59Speaker 6: he loves it. I think he likes it more than
- 33:00Speaker 6: I do.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Really?
- 33:02Speaker 6: I'm trying to turn off the TV, and he's like, hey, Dad,
- 33:04Speaker 6: can you get out of the way? Josh Allen and
- 33:06Speaker 6: Matthew Stafford are playing. Okay, let's back up. Also, bad news,
- 33:10Speaker 6: I think he's going to be left-handed.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Tough news.
- 33:13Speaker 6: I don't want him to be left-handed.
- 33:14Speaker 5: Why is that bad news? Because I'm left-handed. I have
- 33:18Speaker 5: two of my five children left-handed.
- 33:19Speaker 6: Everything's just a little bit harder.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Tough day for the Sharps.
- 33:23Speaker 6: I know.
- 33:24Speaker 5: Why is it a little bit harder?
- 33:25Speaker 6: You know, I mean, you're right in the binder at school.
- 33:28Speaker 6: The rings are here. It's harder to find. Like, it
- 33:31Speaker 6: took a while for me to find a set of
- 33:32Speaker 6: golf clubs that I wanted. Everything's just a little bit harder.
- 33:36Speaker 6: All right.
- 33:38Speaker 5: Seems like a skill issue.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 6: Just be ambidextrous. If it feels easy, everybody would do it. Yeah,
- 33:44Speaker 6: that's true. I mean, guys, I feel like y'all are
- 33:48Speaker 6: making fun of my disability right now.
- 33:50Speaker 2: You called it a disability, not us.
- 33:52Speaker 6: I mean, you know.
- 33:53Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely not. Preaching to the choir, brother. Taylor's a leftist.
- 33:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I love him. This is me.
- 34:00Speaker 5: Razor can play for the Atlanta Falcons right now. They're
- 34:03Speaker 5: calling you a leftist. He could. Yeah, that's all they have.
- 34:05Speaker 6: He'd be the most healthy one in their QB room.
- 34:10Speaker 5: I hate smart Brunel, I guess.
- 34:12Speaker 6: You're doing a great job, Tua. We're proud of you.
- 34:14Speaker 6: Keep up the great work. Aw, poor Tua.
- 34:17Speaker 5: Said Tua.
- 34:19Speaker 8: Said Tua.
- 34:21Speaker 6: Said, Tua's burner account.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:24Speaker 5: Wonder who that is.
- 34:25Speaker 3: That's weird.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Oh, man, when he threw that pass. Man, I even
- 34:31Speaker 5: feel bad making fun of Tua now.
- 34:34Speaker 3: His first play was pretty good. It was a dot.
- 34:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Second play. I could see what he was trying to do.
- 34:38Speaker 6: I know that we all, like, give him crap and
- 34:44Speaker 6: all that. I get it. The injuries have to have
- 34:46Speaker 6: played some sort of factor in this. Because, like, dude,
- 34:48Speaker 6: he led the Dolphins to the playoffs. He was never
- 34:51Speaker 6: this bad. He had some years early on.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Look, we were talking about the other direction, how good
- 34:59Speaker 3: Mike McDaniel was. Because he had Tua, look what he did. Well,
- 35:04Speaker 3: maybe it was the other way around. Now that this
- 35:06Speaker 3: whole Chargers situation, maybe Tua was good and he made
- 35:09Speaker 3: Mike McDaniel look good.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Yeah, they did have Tyreek when Tyreek was still Tyreek Hill.
- 35:15Speaker 3: He's about to be Tyreek again.
- 35:16Speaker 6: Okay, I mean.
- 35:17Speaker 7: Okay.
- 35:19Speaker 6: Okay. 2022 was the year they went to the playoffs.
- 35:26Speaker 6: Tua had 25 touchdowns, 8 picks. I mean, he's had
- 35:30Speaker 6: moments in this league and then it all fell apart.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Sad.
- 35:34Speaker 3: It all fell apart with, unfortunately, his brain.
- 35:37Speaker 4: Right. Y'all remember in the draft a couple years ago
- 35:41Speaker 4: when we got some real strays for saying Malik Nabors
- 35:45Speaker 4: was better than Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 35:46Speaker 5: Yeah. People were like, Basically calling us crazy.
- 35:51Speaker 4: That might be the take that we've had that people,
- 35:53Speaker 4: not LSU fans, but just people that we put out
- 35:56Speaker 4: a video and people would get a hold of it
- 35:58Speaker 4: and they would just comment. Feel pretty good about that
- 36:01Speaker 4: one still.
- 36:02Speaker 6: Texans wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 36:04Speaker 4: Now, right?
- 36:05Speaker 5: Yep.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Yep.
- 36:05Speaker 5: They traded second round pick in a late round swap.
- 36:11Speaker 3: What makes a, it's still a very new relationship, right?
- 36:18Speaker 3: Maybe not very new. It's year three for Marvin. What
- 36:21Speaker 3: makes it deteriorate like that to where you just trade
- 36:24Speaker 3: him after the fifth week?
- 36:26Speaker 5: I think he doesn't show signs of getting better. Michael
- 36:30Speaker 5: Wilson's a better receiver right now. Trey McBride's the first
- 36:35Speaker 5: option on that team.
- 36:37Speaker 3: See that catch he had?
- 36:38Speaker 5: Yes. And so I would say that, and I don't
- 36:41Speaker 5: know this, but I would assume that inside the building,
- 36:45Speaker 5: that wasn't something that he was very happy about.
- 36:49Speaker 3: He hasn't come, like, at least the public had shared,
- 36:54Speaker 3: him coming off as a problem.
- 36:56Speaker 5: No, and not even a, like. Like a locker room problem.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Which we've seen that with receivers. Like a problem. Like,
- 37:01Speaker 5: I haven't heard that.
- 37:03Speaker 4: But also, when you're expected to be your top ten pick,
- 37:06Speaker 4: you're expected to be the guy. And now you're running,
- 37:09Speaker 4: you're the third receiver in 11 personnel. And you're the run,
- 37:13Speaker 4: you know, you're running decoy routes.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:16Speaker 5: Like, body language could be– like, I don't know.
- 37:18Speaker 4: Like, we're not there, but, like, Kendrick Bourne has more
- 37:24Speaker 4: catches than Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Did.
- 37:26Speaker 4: He played in four games and had five catches for
- 37:28Speaker 4: 85 yards. Elijah Higgins, tied in, had three more catches
- 37:37Speaker 4: than Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Had.
- 37:40Speaker 4: Six-round pick from Stanford from a couple years ago. So–
- 37:47Speaker 4: I don't know what happened, but they got a second-round pick.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Yeah, they did.
- 37:50Speaker 4: Now they use a top-ten pick on him, but they
- 37:52Speaker 4: got a second-round pick in return.
- 37:53Speaker 5: I think that's really good value for a guy that
- 37:55Speaker 5: hasn't done anything. God bless you, Alondra.
- 37:57Speaker 6: Y'all seen the news that came out yesterday about he
- 38:00Speaker 6: uses a special jugs machine at Ohio State. It's called
- 38:04Speaker 6: the Seeker. It's like 50K. And, like, you can adjust
- 38:07Speaker 6: it to, like, speed and all that. It's like this
- 38:09Speaker 6: high-tech jugs machine. He requested the Cardinals to buy one,
- 38:12Speaker 6: and they told him no. So he had to bring
- 38:14Speaker 6: his own. So it's like that relationship– Well, I would
- 38:17Speaker 6: have told him to buy it.
- 38:19Speaker 3: You know what can also throw passes to you in
- 38:22Speaker 3: different locations at different speeds? Just like a human.
- 38:27Speaker 7: Right.
- 38:28Speaker 5: But they don't. But like him and C.J. Stroud reunited.
- 38:31Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 38:34Speaker 5: So.
- 38:34Speaker 3: All right.
- 38:35Speaker 4: I mean, maybe that's, you know. Because the Texans didn't.
- 38:39Speaker 4: It's not their most pressing need. Their offensive line is horrid.
- 38:45Speaker 4: And they already had. Receivers, Nico Collins is a one
- 38:48Speaker 4: in this league. They traded for Kayshaun Booty. They got
- 38:53Speaker 4: Jalen Noel.
- 38:54Speaker 6: That's so true. I forgot that they just got Kayshaun.
- 38:58Speaker 5: Hank Dale, Hutchinson, even with their injuries, they still got receivers.
- 39:03Speaker 5: I don't know. To give up a second-round pick when
- 39:07Speaker 5: you are.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Bad, bad at run blocking, a little shocking.
- 39:12Speaker 3: David Montgomery is out. They must still have a really
- 39:15Speaker 3: high grade on him. obviously. And then just, they, there's
- 39:19Speaker 3: some sort of inside information they think they have about
- 39:23Speaker 3: how bad the Cardinals are and what they're not doing
- 39:25Speaker 3: with him. We can fix some type situation. And maybe
- 39:28Speaker 3: they can. Seems like a good enough kid.
- 39:31Speaker 6: You can never fix him. Can't fix him.
- 39:35Speaker 4: He's that bad. He was a good college player. I
- 39:37Speaker 4: am not saying he wasn't a very, very good college
- 39:40Speaker 4: football player. There's going to be questions like if his
- 39:45Speaker 4: last name was Smith. Would they have talked as much
- 39:49Speaker 4: about him? It's probably unfair, but I've already seen that
- 39:52Speaker 4: a ton.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Right. And that's for the media to do, right? That's
- 39:56Speaker 3: for the media to make too much of a last name.
- 39:59Speaker 3: It's not for an organization to do. That's actually the
- 40:02Speaker 3: one writing the check, right? That's not for them to do.
- 40:04Speaker 3: So I got a hard time believing that they actually
- 40:05Speaker 3: did it.
- 40:06Speaker 5: I think in a draft process, it can cloud you
- 40:08Speaker 5: a little bit.
- 40:09Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:09Speaker 5: But not, to your point, not in a trade. It shouldn't,
- 40:12Speaker 5: at least. When.
- 40:14Speaker 3: When the poo hits the fan, and you've got to
- 40:16Speaker 3: cut a check and make a decision and turn in
- 40:18Speaker 3: a card, you're doing it based on your own valuation. Now,
- 40:21Speaker 3: we see guys get the valuation wrong all the time.
- 40:24Speaker 3: How many people were picked in front of Patrick Mahomes?
- 40:28Speaker 3: We can say Malik was better, but they believed. They
- 40:31Speaker 3: weren't listening to media talk. They truly believed that he
- 40:33Speaker 3: was going to be a difference maker. That's why he
- 40:36Speaker 3: made that pick. They were wrong, but they believed it.
- 40:40Speaker 3: They believed it themselves.
- 40:45Speaker 4: All right, we'll take a break. We'll ask the bench
- 40:49Speaker 4: when we come back to wrap it up here. We'll
- 40:52Speaker 4: do it live from the Raising Cane Studio.
- 40:54Speaker 6: Off the bench.
- 40:55Speaker 5: All right, go to TrashRangers.com. TrashRangers.com. Residential commercial trash pickup service.
- 41:01Speaker 5: Roll-off dumpsters, three different sizes to choose from. Make sure
- 41:04Speaker 5: you have the right size on your project. Give them
- 41:06Speaker 5: a call.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Tell them what you've got going on. And don't forget
- 41:08Speaker 4: about the sanitation department as well. So if you are
- 41:13Speaker 4: hosting an event maybe, at your home and you need that,
- 41:16Speaker 4: call them up. They'll drop it off, pick it up.
- 41:18Speaker 4: If you have a job site where you need a couple,
- 41:20Speaker 4: they're going to drop it off. They're going to pick
- 41:22Speaker 4: it up, right? They make it incredibly easy for you.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Same thing with roll-off dumpsters. If you fill it up,
- 41:28Speaker 4: they'll empty it, bring it right back, put it in
- 41:30Speaker 4: the same exact spot.
- 41:31Speaker 5: Go to TrashRangers.com.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Yeah, I told you I got a roll-off dumpster at
- 41:34Speaker 3: my house right now. I got the big boy.
- 41:35Speaker 6: I got the 30-yard.
- 41:36Speaker 3: There's three sizes to choose from, but the other day
- 41:38Speaker 3: we got up, probably we're still doing a little demolition
- 41:40Speaker 3: around the house. That thing got to the top. It
- 41:44Speaker 3: got filled. And the next day, there was a brand-new
- 41:46Speaker 3: dumpster there. And they are the best. The customer, they
- 41:48Speaker 3: understand your project, they understand your needs, and they can
- 41:51Speaker 3: fit everything. They're the best in the business. TrashRangers.com.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn. Presented
- 42:00Speaker 1: by Community Steel.
- 42:16Speaker 5: All right, welcome back in OTB.
- 42:18Speaker 4: I want to remind you, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
- 42:21Speaker 4: and Ochsner Health reminds you that early detection can make
- 42:24Speaker 4: a life-saving difference. Take a moment to talk to your
- 42:27Speaker 4: doctor about your personal risk factors and when you should
- 42:30Speaker 4: begin regular mammograms and remind the women you love to
- 42:33Speaker 4: do the same.
- 42:34Speaker 5: Remember, you can learn more.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Schedule your mammogram today at Ochsner.org. You can also go
- 42:39Speaker 4: to myOchsner app. That's where you can schedule your appointments,
- 42:42Speaker 4: refill those prescriptions, do a lot there at the MyOshner app.
- 42:45Speaker 5: But go to the website today.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Again, Oshner.org, October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
- 42:52Speaker 5: Make sure that you have that screening. Oshner Health, innovating
- 42:56Speaker 5: health care for a healthier Louisiana.
- 42:58Speaker 4: All right, let's get to some of your questions. We'll
- 43:01Speaker 4: ask the bench brought to you by Dos Equis. It's
- 43:05Speaker 4: always a great time to go for dos. That's a
- 43:11Speaker 4: good one.
- 43:11Speaker 2: Hashtag.
- 43:11Speaker 6: You're getting so much better at glugging.
- 43:14Speaker 4: How come Flynn gets a cameo appearance in the series
- 43:16Speaker 4: Saban and not Hester?
- 43:19Speaker 5: Two years to one year. I mean, more screen time. Yeah,
- 43:22Speaker 5: it's volume.
- 43:22Speaker 3: I haven't watched it yet.
- 43:24Speaker 5: I'm not watching that. It's too much Alabama.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Too much, like, PTSD.
- 43:28Speaker 5: If I did close my eyes, I'm like. Like, the
- 43:32Speaker 5: first one I saw was like, man, we had, like,
- 43:34Speaker 5: These 10-yard sprints, and they had to be perfect. And
- 43:37Speaker 5: I was like, yeah. We used to have 40-40s, and
- 43:39Speaker 5: they had to be perfect.
- 43:40Speaker 3: What's this guy's deal?
- 43:41Speaker 5: I was like, I remember the 35-110 day that we
- 43:45Speaker 5: had to run. Some guy tried to tell me that
- 43:48Speaker 5: it was harder to do perfect 10s than 110s.
- 43:52Speaker 6: What?
- 43:52Speaker 5: I swear. In the comments, I'm like, oh, buddy.
- 43:56Speaker 3: Sure.
- 43:57Speaker 5: The 40-40s was probably the most difficult thing.
- 43:59Speaker 3: 40-40s really are, especially when you had to do the workout.
- 44:02Speaker 5: It was two 40s tests. If you got in trouble, automatic, 40-40s.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Go ahead. Somebody didn't go to class in your group, 40-40s.
- 44:09Speaker 3: That's a tough one. Because you would time at the
- 44:13Speaker 3: beginning of the summer. You'd test on a 40, and
- 44:16Speaker 3: you want to run fast. Then you've got to realize, oh,
- 44:18Speaker 3: the conditioning test. It's like I've got to run 10
- 44:20Speaker 3: of them with 10 seconds of rest. And the last
- 44:23Speaker 3: one has to be a certain percentage of my max speed.
- 44:26Speaker 5: Yep. Or you fail. Hashtag ask the bench.
- 44:32Speaker 4: If Mississippi State plays the walk-on quarterback, is there anything
- 44:35Speaker 4: that LSU should be worried about with this team?
- 44:38Speaker 5: Yes. Evan's a receiver. I don't care who's throwing the football.
- 44:40Speaker 5: He is dynamic. And if Fluff plays a running back,
- 44:44Speaker 5: he's a good player, too. They got some Jimmies and
- 44:46Speaker 5: Joes on offense.
- 44:48Speaker 6: Fluff Bothwell.
- 44:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:50Speaker 6: Kind of soft. It's a great name, though.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Watch out.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Watch out for the Fluffer.
- 44:55Speaker 5: He's a good player. They have other good players, just
- 44:57Speaker 5: Camario's their best A.
- 44:59Speaker 6: Couple years ago, he was in South Alabama. Played against him.
- 45:02Speaker 6: LSU did. He was good there, too.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Yeah. And we all know how good Jeff Lebby is.
- 45:06Speaker 3: We all know.
- 45:07Speaker 5: We all know it.
- 45:08Speaker 3: We all know it.
- 45:08Speaker 6: Most recognizable coach in the conference, arguably.
- 45:11Speaker 3: Arguably.
- 45:11Speaker 5: For sure. Arguably, yes.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Jake, do you think you could get in on the
- 45:14Speaker 3: broadcast this weekend? Punches me.
- 45:19Speaker 5: Or can we get moon stats on there? I can
- 45:21Speaker 5: get punches me.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Okay.
- 45:23Speaker 5: Some moon stats? Nah. I kind of tuned you out
- 45:26Speaker 5: when you were talking about that.
- 45:28Speaker 3: He does not love the moon.
- 45:29Speaker 5: No, I don't care about it.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I'm more of a sun guy myself. When the job
