- 0:01Arsenal left side to the middle. What a move by Philip Forsberg.
- 0:06One of the best from Scoresberg. It's the podcast that loves the
- 0:12hockey team you love Sorrow stops him with the blocker.
- 0:16This is the Predators official podcast with Cara Hammer and Max
- 0:20hers for the empty net and hits it on about on 102.5 and 106.3.
- 0:26The game at nashvillepredators.com.
- 0:30Welcome into the Predators official podcast.
- 0:32I'm Karen Hammer along with Max Hers here in the lovely state of
- 0:37Colorado. And Max, the boys are coming off
- 0:40a big two point win against the Dallas Stars.
- 0:42It feels good to have a podcast where we're talking about a win
- 0:45after an 8 game losing streak. Yeah, Kara, I just got off the
- 0:50phone. I had to wait a while to get
- 0:52through, but I called the word back department and I was able
- 0:56to successfully file a claim after the Predators snapped
- 0:58their franchise record tying 8 game losing streak with A41 win
- 1:04against the Stars Thursday night.
- 1:05So the claim has been filed everybody.
- 1:08No need to fill up the phone lines at the word back
- 1:10department. I got it covered.
- 1:11All right, all right, I know everybody was kind of
- 1:14questioning this team then, you know, it felt like what could go
- 1:18wrong did go wrong. It was like the good, the bad
- 1:22and the ugly and there was a lot of ugly, especially going into
- 1:26that Dallas game. Obviously in the the night
- 1:28before you lose, Roman Yossi exits the game.
- 1:32He's listed out the lower body injury.
- 1:34They're already without Jeremy was gone already without
- 1:37Alexander Carrier. You're you're starting to
- 1:39question what's happening with this D team.
- 1:42Obviously Gus Nyquist was out that night.
- 1:44Ryan O'Reilly was out that night.
- 1:46I so going against Dallas Max, I felt like I had a good feeling
- 1:51going into that one. When it was announced that
- 1:53Nyquist and The Factor would be back, you felt like all right,
- 1:57things could be good and things were good.
- 2:01What a crazy way to snap the streak, right?
- 2:03You only have two of your 6 Opening night defenseman Roman
- 2:07Yossi missing his first game in two seasons.
- 2:09He'd played 117 in a row. Similar streaks ended in the
- 2:13past week for Nyquist and O'Reilly.
- 2:15When they had to miss time, both of them got back.
- 2:18So the Preds did have their full forward group, which was good.
- 2:21But yeah, talk about a different looking blue line from what it
- 2:24was supposed to look like for the Preds this year.
- 2:27And Eustace Onanan was in that giving Eustis Soros a night off.
- 2:30So all those things combined to create one of the Predators
- 2:33best, if not their absolute best all around game of the season I
- 2:37thought. Yeah, 35 saves for little juice.
- 2:42Are we sticking with that? Do we have a nickname yet?
- 2:45Well, we were told that Eustace Onanan is big juice because he
- 2:50is physically larger than you see Soros.
- 2:53I like Juice and Juice Junior. I haven't really had a chance to
- 2:58run it by either of them yet, but we're going to keep working
- 3:02on it. You know, I'm OK, I'm all right
- 3:05with big juice. I kind of like it, right?
- 3:07What is E6 for? Every bit of 6 for.
- 3:10Every bit of 6 for So that was a great night for the nutminders.
- 3:15Blue liners, obviously Nick Blinkenberg's in the lineup,
- 3:18Adam Willsby comes in and Max, how do you take away a first NHL
- 3:25goal? I saw, I saw John Buchi gross
- 3:28tweet about it. He said this should be banned in
- 3:31the NHL. You should not be able to
- 3:33challenge this. You should not be able to wave
- 3:34this off ever, at any given point.
- 3:37All cool plays should count. That should be the rule.
- 3:43I agree, all cool plays, especially when it's your first
- 3:46NHL goal. It needs to be banned.
- 3:49Yeah, so Adam Willsby was offside on what became his first
- 3:53NHL goal and what was not his first NHL goal.
- 3:57It was an absolute RIP over Jake Ottinger, one of the best
- 4:01goalies in the NHL. It was a beautiful goal that
- 4:04will not be for Willsby. He did pick up an assist in the
- 4:07second period. A hard earned assist, playing
- 4:10four on four on the Predators first goal of the game by Ryan
- 4:13O'Reilly on another near scoring chance for Willsby.
- 4:17Nearly got his first goal for real on that shift.
- 4:19Ended up with an assist. Willsby gets his first point in
- 4:23the NHL in his eighth NHL game. You mentioned Blankenberg, Kara,
- 4:27I thought he was exceptional. Blankenberg and Brady Shay were
- 4:30the Predators top D pair in this game.
- 4:33I think there's a pretty easy argument that Blankenberg was
- 4:36the Predators best defenseman in this win.
- 4:38Yeah, I know, uh, Brooks Bratton tweeted about it, that, you
- 4:42know, talking with them postgame, they said the D line
- 4:44was pretty banged up going into the game, but they felt they had
- 4:47a strong performance. So I think for the D Core as a
- 4:50whole, they felt pretty positive about that win.
- 4:53And obviously I think some of these young guys have it, have
- 4:56looked up to the veterans. They've been looking for a
- 4:58little bit of an answer. And how much did that start Max
- 5:02with Ryan O'Reilly giving a pregame speech going into the
- 5:05game? Yeah, let's hear it on Preds TV
- 5:09because Ryan O'Reilly missed the last three games and I got a
- 5:15chance to see how hard he was working to get back as soon as
- 5:20possible, even in the midst of a massively disappointing season.
- 5:24O'Reilly on Tuesday during the morning skate time period.
- 5:28The Predators did not hold a morning skate on Tuesday before
- 5:31their home game against the Flames.
- 5:33The only two guys who were out there were two injured players
- 5:36who were working their way back, Ryan O'Reilly and Jeremy Lauzon.
- 5:39They were out there with Prince coach Sebastian Bordello doing
- 5:43the Herb Brooks bag skate. They were going back and forth
- 5:46and back and forth testing their injuries.
- 5:49Both of them have lower body injuries, trying to get their
- 5:51skating back close to 100%, as close as they can to come back
- 5:55into a game. They both pushed it hard for a
- 5:58better part of an hour out there alone.
- 6:01And even after Lausanne went back to the locker room,
- 6:03O'Reilly was still out there testing his injury with bursts
- 6:08and pivots, starting at center ice, skating around each zone.
- 6:11And he did it for so long Kara, that the Zambonis were circling
- 6:16him at Bridstone Arena to start clearing off the ice for the
- 6:20Flames to have their morning skate after a full hour.
- 6:23O'Reilly wanted to play Tuesday. He wanted to play Tuesday so
- 6:27badly and he didn't quite get there.
- 6:30But he got there Thursday and ended up with the first 3 point
- 6:34game by a Predators player all season, which is hard to believe
- 6:38in game #30 but that's how it's gone this year for the Preds.
- 6:41O'Reilly had two goals and an assist and as you said, we found
- 6:45out on Preds TV from assistant coach Derek Mackenzie with a
- 6:48good interview by Lindsay Rowley.
- 6:50What O'Reilly did before his big game and return.
- 6:54We. Did nothing and now I'm joined
- 6:56by assistant coach Derek Mackenzie.
- 6:58Coach Ryan O'Reilly returns to the lineup.
- 6:59Two goals in the second period. What did you think of not only
- 7:02the shot on the first one, but the impressive tip on the second
- 7:04one? Yeah, I mean, those are things
- 7:06that he works on all the time and, and just having his
- 7:09presence back in the lineup and actually, you know, even before
- 7:11the game, you know, he addressed the guys and said some really
- 7:14good things that I thought got us off to a good start.
- 7:16So I mean, there's so many valuable things about having him
- 7:18around and you know, to kind of back it up on the ice, it's just
- 7:21fun to watch. Carol, we saw Ryan O'reilly's
- 7:25speech in the Amazon NHL Inside Access series before the
- 7:30playoffs started last year in Vancouver.
- 7:33So I think we got a little taste of what factor speech sounds
- 7:36like getting the boys going. Yeah, plus also we have to
- 7:40mention that that was career game #1100 for for the fact
- 7:45daddy. So he's probably had a little
- 7:48time to practice a few of those speeches.
- 7:50Yeah, and he said in a postgame interview on Fred's TV with
- 7:54Lindsay Rowley that sitting those three games gave him some
- 7:58added perspective about how special it is to be able to go
- 8:02out there with this group. And he doesn't just say that
- 8:05stuff is fluff. O'reilly's an emotional guy.
- 8:08He wears it on his sleeve. And you could tell that he took
- 8:12this whole thing really, really personally.
- 8:16His two goals were really pretty too.
- 8:17A four on four goal going top shelf right in front, getting
- 8:20himself open. Jonathan Marshiso set that one
- 8:23up. And then the Preds third goal
- 8:25was set up by Kevin Gravel in his first game as a Predator in
- 8:30two seasons. Gravel is in his second year as
- 8:33the captain of the Milwaukee Admirals.
- 8:35The 32 year old 11th year pro got back to the NHL and picked
- 8:40up a primary assist with a nice little slap pass for an O'Reilly
- 8:44redirect in the slot. And we got to ask Ravel about
- 8:48that set up after the game on Fred's radio call.
- 8:52O'Reilly, his brother is your assistant captain in Milwaukee.
- 8:55You think you got a text waiting from Cal tonight?
- 8:57Yeah, maybe. He's probably asking me why I
- 8:59haven't found him in front like that.
- 9:02You know, it's I got the blinders on sometimes out there
- 9:04and sometimes you just get a lucky bounce.
- 9:05But no, it was a big goal by him and then you know, good win
- 9:08tonight. That's Kevin Gravel after his
- 9:11first game as a Pred this season and second ever point as a Pred
- 9:16in 24 games. Both of those points are
- 9:18assists. That was a good setup from
- 9:20Gravel who as we heard in the preseason when we interviewed
- 9:24Gravel on the POP, he he is a shameless defensive defenseman.
- 9:29He said he was 4 generations behind on his stick because he
- 9:35never breaks sticks because all he uses them for is defense.
- 9:39Well, he made a play. Yeah, he did make a play, but I
- 9:42think of all the plays that stood out to me, Max and and
- 9:45we're going to play this in in the next segment.
- 9:47But when Ryan O'Reilly tipped in his goal, there was an NHL
- 9:51commercial that came out solely about tipping.
- 9:54And I thought, how timely could this be?
- 9:57Does this, does the league have this plan?
- 10:01So good, so good. You will hear that full
- 10:03commercial starring UC Soros and four other NHL stars coming up
- 10:07in the second segment. We may have a new goalie catch
- 10:11phrase building as well from the creative minds of Chris Mason
- 10:17and Hal GAIL. We have a new catch phrase for
- 10:22new Preds goalie Eustis Anandan and Hal GAIL used it a couple of
- 10:26times during the game. Back pass to Lundquist, loose
- 10:29down low. Robertson backhand safe with the
- 10:31right pad. They got the rebound away from
- 10:34Johnston, too. What do you think, Hammer?
- 10:41Oh my gosh, I don't put anything past Chris and Hal, but I like
- 10:45that. It's like it's like on repeat.
- 10:48And also, he came out with a fresh new mask last night,
- 10:52right? Do you have any details on that?
- 10:54Because we didn't get a full breakdown on Fred's TVI.
- 10:57Do yeah, it was looking sharp at morning skate.
- 11:01So even though he was starting and you're not really supposed
- 11:03to bother the starting goalie on his start day, I had to nose in.
- 11:07I owe it to our listeners. Think of all the things I do for
- 11:11you guys. So on it.
- 11:12And yeah, he got it. He got his new mask done.
- 11:14He said it was expedited because he was getting ready to get some
- 11:17new masks painted in ABS colors. So his artist whose name is Dave
- 11:23Gunterson, who does a large portion of the NHL goalies
- 11:26masks, including all the Preds goalies, you can follow him on
- 11:29Instagram at Dave Art DAVEART. Dave Gunterson, lots of cool
- 11:34goalie mask pictures. He's the one who paints all of
- 11:37them and it's obviously a very detailed and incredible thing
- 11:41and accomplishment of artistry that most people could never do.
- 11:45So Anand and got his mask in. I mean, he was traded 12 days
- 11:48ago. This is a quick turn around.
- 11:50So he didn't really give Gutterson any specifics.
- 11:53He said just kind of wanted a generic preds mask.
- 11:56And it does have a lot of similarities to UC Soros's in
- 11:59terms of the design, the colors, the style he did get.
- 12:03And I tweeted this picture on Thursday at Max Hurst talks on
- 12:07Twitter. The Saber toothed tiger on the
- 12:11side is like legitimately scary looking, like it has massive
- 12:16fangs you can kind of see down its gullet through its gums.
- 12:21It's like a big scary Nashville Predator and I love it.
- 12:24It's intimidating. So.
- 12:26So wait, the artist just had like a week and a half to
- 12:30redesign the helmet? Is that what you're telling me?
- 12:33Yeah, this is this is this guy's job.
- 12:35It's incredible. And we should try to get him on
- 12:37the podcast. I think that we would be able to
- 12:39get in touch with him. But yeah, it's it's incredible.
- 12:42Yeah. If you go to his Instagram
- 12:43account, Dave Art, you'll see that he does masks for almost
- 12:48every goalie on almost every team and is refreshing them
- 12:52throughout the season. Guys are asking for different
- 12:54things for teams that are in outdoor games, they'll get masks
- 12:57that match their special uniform.
- 12:59Some guys will get a mask that matches their third jersey,
- 13:02things like that. It's interesting.
- 13:05Yeah. We have to talk to this guy
- 13:06because I'm curious, you know, if you had already started it
- 13:09for the Avalanche and you and you had to go in in their team
- 13:11colors like the maroon, the blue, didn't you just set that
- 13:14aside and save it and hope like the next goalie coming up wants
- 13:19some similar design? Like is it is it does this what
- 13:22does it go on sale now? Like is this on clearance I
- 13:25have? An extra well, I think if
- 13:27there's another goalie with the same size noggin as Eustis
- 13:30Anand, and then maybe. But I think the fit is more
- 13:33important than the paint job. And we actually saw it in
- 13:35Anand's Fred's debut in Montreal last week.
- 13:38He had like a generic mask, which presumably was sent to him
- 13:42by his apparel company. Then they slapped some Fred's
- 13:45stickers on it and it actually looked good.
- 13:48But it's like, it's almost like the type of mask you would see
- 13:50on a youth goalie. Like, yeah, we slapped some
- 13:52stickers on there. We're not going to get an
- 13:54expensive paint job. We got to get it going with our
- 13:57logos. Yeah, it's, it's like a solid
- 13:59water bottle. You know you get the Stanley.
- 14:02On it. But yeah, Ottoman looking good.
- 14:05I don't think he will start again in the next game against
- 14:09his very recent former employer, the Colorado Avalanche.
- 14:12I was kind of hoping for Onnoman versus Wedgwood double revenge
- 14:16game two weeks later. We will see if either of them
- 14:19goes. I actually think we might not
- 14:22see either goalie, but we don't know that for sure yet.
- 14:25So we'll figure that out over the weekend.
- 14:27But the Preds are in Denver on Saturday night to face the
- 14:29Avalanche in their next game. Anandan's former team Anandan a
- 14:33big win. He has allowed three goals in
- 14:36two starts as a Pred and none of those three were his fault.
- 14:40A short handed breakaway A5 on three goal and then a laser beam
- 14:44open shot on the rush for the only goal for the Stars last
- 14:48night. Can I give you a little history
- 14:50lesson, Kara? Do we have time?
- 14:52I would love it. I would love it.
- 14:53So the 8 losses in a row, the streak that just ended on
- 14:57Thursday night, that tied the worst losing streak in Predators
- 15:01franchise history. And it had only happened once
- 15:04before. It happened in April 2013, which
- 15:07was the shortened lockout season.
- 15:11And they snapped that losing streak with the final win of the
- 15:14year against the Calgary Flames in April of 2013.
- 15:18The biggest thing that happened in that game?
- 15:21Philip Forsberg scored his first NHL point with an assist.
- 15:26Oh my gosh, that is some history.
- 15:29And Hal Gill was roaming the blue line and Chris Mason was
- 15:32backing up Pecorina. I love it.
- 15:37I think that would that started a good point streak for Phil
- 15:41Forsberg, right? I mean 10-11 years later.
- 15:45Yeah, he's had a few more, that's for sure.
- 15:48But we wanted to give Phil an opportunity to introduce his
- 15:52young self as his old self. He was in a video for the NHL
- 15:58with players masquerading as public address announcers
- 16:02introducing themselves, and Phil was by far the best at it,
- 16:07starting at left wing. Lexan, Sweden #9 on the back,
- 16:12but #1 in your heart. Philip Forsberg Don't make me do
- 16:18that again. How good was that?
- 16:23I love it so much. And when I worked in minor
- 16:26League Baseball, this is how we announced the mascot to come
- 16:30out. We would say he wears number 00,
- 16:33but he's #1 in your heart. So I like, I was like rooting
- 16:37for Phil that this is the line he chose to introduce himself.
- 16:40I know some of the other guys did it and it just, it didn't
- 16:44have the same like pizzazz that Phil was bringing.
- 16:47Yeah, we've gotten some very ridiculous NHL videos recently
- 16:51and one of them at the top of the list is this goalie
- 16:53commercial with UC Soros. That will play for you in the
- 16:56next segment here on the podcast.
- 16:58But did you see this clip that's been going around of some of the
- 17:03Canadian Four Nations players introducing themselves and all
- 17:07of them having the most different tones of voice
- 17:10possible? No, I've missed this one.
- 17:13They're no president, but but some of them are like very
- 17:16standard excitement level. Nathan McKinnon does not want to
- 17:19be there as he never does. He goes, this is Nathan
- 17:21McKinnon, Team Canada, Colorado Avalanche.
- 17:24And then Quinn Hughes goes, hey, guys, it's me, Quinn Hughes.
- 17:29And then Austin Matthews hits him with the jazz hands and
- 17:32goes, hey, it's Austin. And it's just absolutely
- 17:36ridiculous. Oh my gosh, I love all the
- 17:39content that they've been putting out recently.
- 17:42Yeah, they've turned it up. These players actually do have
- 17:44personalities. Guys, we promise those of you
- 17:46who listen to The POP know it because we show them to you.
- 17:48But everybody's got one. We swear.
- 17:52One other thing we always do on The POP that we've been slacking
- 17:55on a little bit recently, but I'm proud to bring you Fight
- 17:58Confidential. Every time a Predators player
- 18:00gets in a fist fight in a game because it's fun to watch.
- 18:03We've got to fight confidential. From Cole Smith's fight in
- 18:06Ottawa last Saturday, going up against a young buck after a hit
- 18:10on Alex Carrier and defending his teammate.
- 18:12Here's Cole Smith talking about a fight.
- 18:15Good scrap for you. Last game in Ottawa against
- 18:17rookie Zacko. Stop, Chuck.
- 18:19How'd you think you did? Yeah, did all right.
- 18:21Could have been better. I think I stepped on, stepped on
- 18:24a stick there and kind of lost my balance a bit.
- 18:26But, you know, anytime I'm able to be able to do something in a
- 18:29game like that, credit to him for standing up to it's, it's
- 18:33part of the game. And you know, it's I think at
- 18:35that time is something that we kind of needed.
- 18:38It was pretty recent when you were the young guy fighting the
- 18:40more established NHL Lers. Now you're the established guy
- 18:44fighting the rookie. What's it like having kind of
- 18:46all that turn for you so fast here in the NHL?
- 18:49I think when I was a young guy, I fought a guys that were a lot
- 18:53tougher than I am now. So it's, it's definitely cool
- 18:57the other way around. You know, obviously any time
- 19:00some of that young guy steps in to fight, that's a that's a good
- 19:02thing for them. It's a big milestone.
- 19:04I know when I was trying to break into the league a little
- 19:06bit, that's something that I had to do.
- 19:08And you know, it's not easy for sure be able to stand in and
- 19:11fight like that. And so, you know, it's it's cool
- 19:15and do it both ways. And you know, they're the hard
- 19:18way from the start. I thought that was a cool
- 19:21opportunity and moment of reflection for Cole Smith as his
- 19:25NHL career gets toward veteran status pretty quick.
- 19:28His third full season. But he's 29, so he's the old
- 19:32guy. Drop in the midst now.
- 19:33He is I've always wondered this too.
- 19:36Do you think they they, he takes tips, you know, like like are
- 19:40him and Lucian, are they discussing tactics?
- 19:42Like, you know, you've seen videos kind of come out on
- 19:45social media of other teams and other players working on a maybe
- 19:48like a right hook or how to hold hold something like how much do
- 19:52you think that they're having these conversations?
- 19:56If I were wanting to be an NHL fighter, I would ask Luke Shan
- 19:59every freaking question in the book because his form is so
- 20:02good. He has fought everybody.
- 20:04And. He seems to always land his
- 20:06punches. Well, I mean, he's Luke Shin.
- 20:10He's a big bodied guy. We we talked about this when
- 20:12like the pulp Biss and that stuff was coming out about his
- 20:15little scrap of what? What if that was Luke Shin in
- 20:18the restaurant at the time? Like, who's standing a chance
- 20:23here? Hockey people are forces for
- 20:26good. They're vigilantes out there and
- 20:28we've lived it. We're going to take a break,
- 20:30come back, We're going to play the great new NHL commercial.
- 20:35If you're mad about having a tip at a restaurant where you order
- 20:38at the counter, UC Soros is on your side.
- 20:41We'll hear about that next. She's Garrett Hammer from Fred's
- 20:43TV. I'm Max Herz from Fred's radio.
- 20:45You are listening to the Predators official podcast here
- 20:48on your exclusive radio home for Nashville Predators hockey, it
- 20:52is ESPN 1025 and 1063. The game.
- 21:00Promise that you hold me clothes.
- 21:01Don't let me go. Welcome back to the Predators
- 21:07official Podcast here on ESPN 1025 and 1063.
- 21:11The game. My name is Max, Hers from Fred's
- 21:14radio along with Kara Hammer from Fred's TV.
- 21:17You're on this Friday the 13th, December the 13th.
- 21:22Hammer Are you a believer in Friday the 13th?
- 21:27You know, not really, are you? Oh no, not at all.
- 21:31But I thought you would be. Really.
- 21:33I come across as a Friday the 13th.
- 21:36No, I don't think I am. I mean, you've worked in hockey
- 21:41a long time, so you got to be at least a little stitious.
- 21:45I have said that, I've said this before, that my superstition is
- 21:49I drive to the rink the same way every day.
- 21:53And if I take a different route, I feel like things are not going
- 21:57to go well. And I'm not talking about on the
- 21:58ice. I feel like this is like a
- 22:00personal I'm not going to have a great broadcast.
- 22:02I'm going to stumble over my words, you know, But, but other
- 22:08than that, I don't know if I'm not superstitious.
- 22:11Interesting. I think it's more of like being
- 22:14like a creature of habit. That's what they say about these
- 22:16guys, right? They're creatures of habit.
- 22:19Yeah, well, I do have some big news.
- 22:21I don't think I told you this yet, but as we record here in
- 22:24the late morning on Friday, December 13th, the Preds are in
- 22:28Denver and there is no practice today before the game against
- 22:31the Avalanche on Saturday night. So I think we're in line for a
- 22:35little bit of Preds broadcaster pickleball going down somewhere
- 22:39out here in the Denver area. Oh yeah, we I've taken part in
- 22:42this over in the Cherry Creek area.
- 22:44I've have had a good a good match going against Gilsey and
- 22:47Mace. So I don't know if my luck will
- 22:51be good on Friday the 13th the way the pickleball bounces or
- 22:55bad the way the pickleball bounces.
- 22:57But I love playing pickleball because I can play against our
- 23:00crew. Obviously.
- 23:02Mason Howell are former very high level professional
- 23:05athletes. Willie Donnick and Lindsay
- 23:07Rowley were both college athletes.
- 23:10Our 6th man Nick Barnowski from Fred's PR is not athletic at
- 23:14all, but at least has some size that I don't.
- 23:16And the best part about pickleball is it's the great
- 23:19equalizer. Anyone can be average at it no
- 23:22matter how athletic you are. And I can drop shots in between
- 23:25two former professional athletes no problem.
- 23:28Have you had a chance yet to play pickleball against
- 23:30Sebastian Bordelo? If people don't know, obviously
- 23:34an assistant coach with the Predators and he is a pickleball
- 23:39player. We wanted to loop the coaches in
- 23:42today. I don't think Bordy is on this
- 23:45trip, and if he is, he's joining us in Denver.
- 23:48I don't think I saw him in Dallas.
- 23:49But sometimes when players are injured, he will stay back and
- 23:53not travel on the trip. And there's at least one injured
- 23:56player who is not here on the trip.
- 23:57So Bordelo may be home with him. So we may we may have lost our
- 24:01ace there, but I would love to. Now, now I'm curious if we if we
- 24:06loop in the coaches. I mean, my money would have to
- 24:08be on on Derek McKenzie. I feel like he still looks like
- 24:11he could go out there and, and, and do some work on the court.
- 24:16You know, all the, all the coaches are still pretty fit.
- 24:18Darby Hendrickson, you know, Derek Mackenzie.
- 24:23What do you think here? Max, do you have a chance?
- 24:25I feel like pretty fit is underselling it.
- 24:28I think they are very fit. It's like they never stopped
- 24:32playing the game. Yeah, they love the game, and
- 24:36the game is pickleball sometimes, but they love all
- 24:38games. So yeah, we'll report back.
- 24:40Remind me next week on the podcast, we'll do some amateur
- 24:43stat keeping and I'll let you know how we all did all.
- 24:46Right, all right, well, I love the pickleball, but what I don't
- 24:49love is I'm here with the NHL in the tipping commercial.
- 24:52I think they hit it right on the head.
- 24:54I am over tipping at the counter on a take out order.
- 24:58Yeah, this has become a scourge on society.
- 25:01Larry David S complaint from everybody.
- 25:04And now the NH LS goalies are in the mix on a new NHL commercial
- 25:08that debuted this week on the NH LS Instagram, TikTok, and
- 25:13YouTube. It's all over the place.
- 25:14You'll see it on TV during games and during the Four Nations Face
- 25:18off This year. It features 4 goalies who will
- 25:21be part of the Four Nations face off representing their
- 25:23countries. The first voice you'll hear is
- 25:25Jeremy Swayman from the Boston Bruins.
- 25:27Second up, our man, our favorite commercial actor reprising his
- 25:31role from last year, Mass Mutual.
- 25:34UC Soros advertising for the NHL and then third up Jake Markstrom
- 25:39from the New Jersey Devils and 4th up Jake Ottinger who the
- 25:43Predators just beat last night for the Dallas Stars.
- 25:46And then a guest appearance by a non goalie who loves tipping.
- 25:51Brad Marchand. Enjoy the NH LS newest
- 25:54commercial masterpiece starring juice.
- 25:59Tipping is out of control these days, but a tough one for a
- 26:03goaltender. Everywhere you look, tape, tape,
- 26:06tip and goal under the arm of sorrows.
- 26:09Sometimes all they did was stand it.
- 26:11This goes off the left leg. That's pretty much how you're
- 26:13going to beat Marx from. It's always when you're trying
- 26:15to say no chance for what? I love tipping.
- 26:28The ending gets me every time. Brad Marchand leaving a 63% tip
- 26:33and then shoving it in all the goalies faces.
- 26:36Yeah, that's a great commercial. I love it.
- 26:39I love Juice's part. Everywhere you look.
- 26:42But it looks it's exactly what I was talking about in Ryan
- 26:45O'reilly's goal against Dallas last night, Max.
- 26:48I mean, he stood right in front of the net and tipped it in.
- 26:51I actually think, I mean you UC kills it with the everywhere you
- 26:55look, tip, tip, tip. I actually think my favorite
- 26:58line is Jake Markstrom with the double meaning sometimes all
- 27:03they do is just stand there and it shows the puck gracing off of
- 27:08a Senators player and then going past Markstrom for a goal.
- 27:12And it's like, why would you tip someone at a counter who just
- 27:17stood there? But sometimes you get a tip when
- 27:20you just stand there in the NHL. And I could never have come up
- 27:24with this. You know, my brain is always
- 27:26working to stupid jokes like this.
- 27:27And I don't think it could have ever gotten to any of these
- 27:30lines. So major props to everyone at
- 27:32the league who came up with this.
- 27:33It was actually filmed very recently.
- 27:36UC Soros filmed his portion right before Thanksgiving when
- 27:40the Predators were in New Jersey to take on the Devils.
- 27:43And I will add that while the cameras were there, there may
- 27:46have been another Preds player who also is prepping for another
- 27:49commercial coming up later this year that was filmed.
- 27:52Oh, you have a little inside scoop, do ya?
- 27:55Yeah, I can't tell you who it is, but it will be coming soon.
- 27:59All right, I'll be looking forward to it.
- 28:01Obviously, I was a big fan of Sorrows commercial last season
- 28:05with Ryan talking about the the no goals, no goals.
- 28:09I know that's still one of your favorite lines.
- 28:11You love it every time Sorrows makes the saves.
- 28:13That's what you're thinking about.
- 28:15Yeah, and now I got to retrain my brain every time he makes a
- 28:17save on a tip shot. I got a hit with him everywhere
- 28:20you look. Tip, tip, tip.
- 28:23It's the best I think Max, we were we were talking about this
- 28:27dirt during the break between segments, but going into this
- 28:30Colorado game, this is a chance. I we've talked about how many
- 28:35games are meaningful. The you know, the guys really
- 28:37have have nothing to lose at this point in the season, but
- 28:40this is an opportunity for them to come out and have a
- 28:44statement. When you know you beat the
- 28:46Dallas Stars, a Central Division opponent, It's a big two points.
- 28:50They need to be able to carry some of this momentum over and
- 28:53find a way to win against the Avalanche.
- 28:56Yeah, one win was not enough and even though it was really the
- 28:59Predators best start to finish win of the season here in game
- 29:02#30 to add an 8 game losing streak, they got to follow it
- 29:06up. And it's been a problem all
- 29:08year. But the offense has been there
- 29:09this week. Seven goals in two games.
- 29:12That is tied for the most goals that the Preds have scored in
- 29:16two consecutive games all season.
- 29:19Some of the offensive numbers are just staggering how low
- 29:22they've been for the Preds. And they got to start doing it
- 29:25game after game after game. But the formula is there.
- 29:28The Stars and the ABS are tied for third place in the Central
- 29:31Division. Fred's just beat the Stars in
- 29:33Dallas, where they had only lost one home game all season.
- 29:37They were 11 and one. And Jay Gottinger had not lost a
- 29:40single home game all season. And the Fred's made him look
- 29:43pretty human throughout that game.
- 29:45So they're going to have to do it again against an Avalanche
- 29:47team that has completely flipped their entire goalie depth chart
- 29:51over the last couple weeks. But they have all their big
- 29:54guns. They've gotten found at Shushkin
- 29:55back since the Preds were last year last month.
- 29:58And he's scoring a goal every other game.
- 30:00So the ABS have the offense going.
- 30:03We'll see if anyone can return from injury for the Preds.
- 30:06I think if anyone were to on the back end, it would be Jeremy
- 30:09Lozan, who did participate in morning skate on Thursday.
- 30:13He's already missed eight games and those were all during the
- 30:16losing streak before that win. So it'd be great to get Luzon
- 30:19back. Roman Yossi is on the trip.
- 30:23I'm not sure if there's a chance that he will play, but the Preds
- 30:27would be hoping for some reinforcements going into, as
- 30:29you said, Kara, a massive game against the Avalanche, who lost
- 30:33on home ice on Thursday night against the utes 41 against the
- 30:38Utah Hockey Club. Can we highlight a player who
- 30:41has seemed to kind of come into his game a little bit?
- 30:44Tommy Novak? He's had goals and, and
- 30:47back-to-back games. It it feels like the first goal
- 30:52came for him. Max was a sigh of relief.
- 30:55And I love so much that when we shot to the bench, he's sitting
- 30:58next to Luke Evangelisa, who's literally like slapping his leg,
- 31:03has a smile on his face. It was something that we were
- 31:06questioning. Are the guys having fun?
- 31:08You know, like they're they're in such a spiral downfall of
- 31:11what's really happening down there in that locker room.
- 31:13So to see that moment of the players really picking each
- 31:16other up, it felt like, OK, this is it, it can start to carry
- 31:20over. Jonathan Marshall was able to
- 31:21find the back of the net. And, you know, putting Steven
- 31:25Sam close at center was really showing a lot of his speed.
- 31:27He was able to open the game up a little bit more in the
- 31:30offensive zone, find some good passing.
- 31:32I think now, Max, maybe it's time to turn the corner.
- 31:36Yeah, things are happening. You just got to do it again and
- 31:40again and again. Novak's goal in Dallas on
- 31:43Thursday skate to stick. That's the play making wizardry
- 31:47that Tommy Novak needs to be doing more frequently.
- 31:49So seeing a lot of what we need to see from the Preds.
- 31:52And they may have found a second line too with Philip Forsberg,
- 31:56Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marshiso together on the top
- 31:58line. And as you said, Stamkos playing
- 32:00center and looking good there this week at even strength, Ryan
- 32:04O'Reilly and Gus Nyquist are going to need a third on the
- 32:06second line. And Zach LaRue emerged as that
- 32:09guy as the game went on on Thursday.
- 32:10So I would expect that to be the second line to start things on
- 32:14Saturday night. And the Predators next game in
- 32:16Denver, which will be at 8:00 central time.
- 32:20That's 7:00 Mountain time in Denver where the game is being
- 32:24played. And the game also, in addition
- 32:27to being televised on FanDuel Sports Network and broadcast on
- 32:30102.5 the game as usual, that game Saturday will be on News
- 32:33Channel 5. That's Nashville's CBS
- 32:35affiliate, one of three games here in this month, all on the
- 32:38road, airing on CBS in Nashville, in addition to their
- 32:42usual methods. So those of you who do not get
- 32:45FanDuel Sports Network, make sure you DVR this game, you
- 32:48watch this game. We want to know that you guys
- 32:50want more games over the year in Nashville available on streaming
- 32:54services. Watch the game if you are
- 32:56interested in more of that Saturday night.
- 32:58And there will also be a special pregame show before the Preds
- 33:02pregame show, which as always, will start half an hour before
- 33:05the game. On TV, there'll be a Channel
- 33:07News Channel 5 special with Steve Lehman and John Burton
- 33:11from Channel 5 talking Preds with some exclusive interviews,
- 33:14including a Shea Weber Hall of Fame interview at 7:00 on
- 33:18Saturday night for the Preds and the ABS on Channel 5.
- 33:21So that'll be a lot of fun. Really great to have their
- 33:24partnership. And Kara, did you see these
- 33:26videos of Nash over in The Newsroom at Channel 5, just
- 33:29causing havoc as usual? I was, I was just going to ask
- 33:33if you've had a chance to catch some of these promo commercials.
- 33:35I mean, they they're pulling out like the ESPN stocks here.
- 33:38They have they have a Nash coming in and running the
- 33:41reception counter. But obviously he's got pause
- 33:44Max. He can't press the right buttons
- 33:46to answer the phone. He put people on hold and you
- 33:50know, Lindsay and Mace were there, they were doing a promo
- 33:52and obviously Mace with with the high kick.
- 33:55So I'm excited about this. And obviously Steve Lehman and
- 33:58John Barton, two of my very favorite people in Nashville.
- 34:01It's going to be a great night and a great opportunity for fans
- 34:04in Middle Tennessee to watch the game for free.
- 34:06Yeah, that's Saturday night, December 14th.
- 34:09Many of you are hearing this on 1025 The Game on that day.
- 34:12So watch the game on news Channel 5 tonight.
- 34:15Preds and ABS at 8:00. Coverage begins at 7:00 with a
- 34:18Pred special on Channel 5 before the pregame show takes over from
- 34:22Denver at 7:30. As always, we will be on Preds
- 34:26Radio there for you, available for anybody to stream around the
- 34:29world at thegamenashville.com. We'll take a break, come back,
- 34:32tell you about tons of holiday happenings in Smashville over
- 34:35the next couple weeks as the Preds get ready to begin A4 game
- 34:39homestand leading into Christmas coming up starting on Tuesday
- 34:42night. She's Kara Hammer from Preds TV.
- 34:45I'm Max serves from Preds Radio. You're listening to the
- 34:47Predators official podcast on ESPN 102.5 The game, Little Mama
- 34:58and Avril Lavigne. Little Mama.
- 35:01And. Avril Lavigne, welcome back to
- 35:06the Predators official podcast here on ESPN 102.5 and 106
- 35:10through the games. Cara, you're not going to
- 35:13believe this, but I've been bumping a lot of Avril Lavigne
- 35:15recently and I had to go with Girlfriend Remix for this
- 35:19second. His little Mama.
- 35:21Kind of a classic. Isn't she Canadian?
- 35:24I think she is, yeah. There you go.
- 35:27She's touring this year. I don't know if she's coming to
- 35:29Bridgestone, but she's making a heck of a comeback.
- 35:32I'm surprised you're in the in the Avril Lavigne stage right
- 35:36now, Max. I thought you'd be more into
- 35:37like a little bit of the Mariah Carey holiday holiday Christmas
- 35:41special that's been going around.
- 35:42Yeah, if you haven't noticed, I'm really off trend chronically
- 35:48so. You just do random stuff all the
- 35:54time. Yeah, it's just bounces around
- 35:56in my brain until something comes out.
- 35:58But usually interesting stuff comes out.
- 36:00Now we got a lot of interesting stuff going on in Smashville
- 36:02this holiday week. The Predators will be home for
- 36:06four straight games in seven days, starting on Tuesday night
- 36:10against the New York Rangers, Thursday night against the
- 36:13Pittsburgh Penguins, Saturday afternoon against the LA Kings,
- 36:17and then Monday night, December 23rd against the Carolina
- 36:21Hurricanes. A4 game home stand leading into
- 36:24Christmas. 4 big games, 4 cool teams.
- 36:29I think it's going to be a whole lot of fun at Bridgestone Arena
- 36:31all week long. All week long and of all the
- 36:34games, I'm definitely looking forward to Saturday.
- 36:36I love a day game. I always have to go back to
- 36:39Lindsay and I's favorite Peter Laviolette line of wake up, eat
- 36:43your eggs and punch somebody. So this is our motto.
- 36:46Every early game, Lindsay and I go into this, we look at each
- 36:49other, we say this line, we have the best broadcast.
- 36:53And I know for a fact some of these guys love these early
- 36:56games, especially Cole Smith. He's a player.
- 36:57He told me he's like, I love it. I love to just wake up, put on
- 37:00the skates, get out, play hockey.
- 37:02It it beats kind of like waiting around all day.
- 37:05So the earlier start also, this is a great opportunity to bring
- 37:09the kids out, bring your families out, come out early,
- 37:12watch some Pretz hockey and I don't know, maybe we'll see
- 37:15somebody punch somebody. Yeah, I make sure to get there
- 37:19early because that's the first of our 4 Music City Bobblehead
- 37:23Series games on Saturday, December 21st.
- 37:26The 1st 10,000 fans in attendance.
- 37:30So get there early. Gates will open an hour and a
- 37:32half before the game at 11:00 AM before the game at 12:30 next
- 37:36Saturday, the 1st 10,000 fans in attendance will get a Tim McGraw
- 37:40Bobblehead, first of four in the Music City Bobblehead Series.
- 37:45Hammer. Those are going to be hot items.
- 37:47They are going to be a hot item. I, I am always a big fan of our
- 37:50Preds giveaways. I, I probably have all of them
- 37:53and I am, I'm a little bit of a hoarder here.
- 37:55I did see that the Kraken we're giving out like Cousin Eddie
- 37:59Beanies, and I might have to text Sean Henry and see how we
- 38:04make this happen in Nashville. Wow, yeah, the the Kraken have
- 38:08had some good stuff when I've been up there for games.
- 38:11I got a John Forslan bobblehead there play by play announcer
- 38:14that talks when the Preds played the crack at last season.
- 38:18Nobody needs a bobble head of you talking Max.
- 38:21No, but I think they need one of Pete Weber talking.
- 38:23Yes, yes, definitely AP Weber or or even I would even take a
- 38:29crispy bobble head talking. Keep your head on his.
- 38:31Wibble Yeah, that'd be awesome. And while your kids are at that
- 38:36game, make sure you're in the Nashville Predators Kids Club
- 38:40because it is time to get your Kids Club Holiday packs at any
- 38:44of those four games. If you're already in the kids
- 38:46club, go to the new Nashville Fun Zone, which I know has
- 38:49become a favorite spot for all the kids in Smashville new this
- 38:52season. Down the fan information
- 38:54hallway, under the escalator, past the Catfish tank, by the
- 38:58main entrance to Bridgestone Arena.
- 39:00The new Nashville Fun Zone has tons of games, a little hockey
- 39:03rink, bubble hockey and that is where you can pick up your Kids
- 39:06Club Holiday Pack. If you're not in the kids club,
- 39:09you could still join and get your holiday pack by going to
- 39:12nashvillepredators.com/kids Club.
- 39:16So that is all on Saturday. You can pick up your Kids club
- 39:19bag any game this week. The first game is Tuesday and
- 39:22before the game on Tuesday if you can come down early, 4:00 PM
- 39:26on the Plaza at the corner of 5th and Broadway.
- 39:29Jack Daniels will be partnering with the Preds to host Carols by
- 39:33the Barrels with music from country singer Brett Young.
- 39:37And you can buy a barrel to support Operation Ride Home,
- 39:41supporting U.S. military men and their families and also the
- 39:44Nashville Predators Foundation. Get your picture with the barrel
- 39:47tree, which was lit this past week, and follow Jack Daniels on
- 39:51Instagram to learn more. So that is Tuesday Carols by the
- 39:55Barrels at Bridgestone Arena. Is this is the barrel full?
- 40:01I don't know, you might have to roll it home to find out.
- 40:05This is a great question because if you've taken the Jack Daniels
- 40:09tour, you know Don and Lynchburg, they talk about the
- 40:11barrels and how people repurpose them all the time.
- 40:14But if this is a full barrel, the broadcast team would gladly
- 40:18accept it as a donation. Shocking.
- 40:23Shocking to support a great cause.
- 40:27And all week, so that's on Tuesday before the game against
- 40:30the Rangers. The event is free and open to
- 40:32the public outside of the arena. You don't need a ticket to come
- 40:35to Carol's by the Barrels on Tuesday at 4.
- 40:37We've already got going Wayne DS 12 days of hockey holidays
- 40:41leading up to Christmas. As we talk here on Friday the
- 40:4513th, that is day two. Saturday the 14th is day three.
- 40:49It's presented by Wayne D's primary employer, 97.9 the Big
- 40:5398, the station where he hosts his nationally syndicated
- 40:56country music radio show. That is quite good, but we like
- 40:59Wayne D even better in Smashville, so we've stolen him
- 41:01for Christmas. And at 9:00 AM every day this

- 42:43Do you know the legitimate Predators radio connection to
- 42:47Loveless Cafe? I do not.
- 42:50So Chase McCabe, host and program director on 1025 The
- 42:53Game. His late father ran Loveless
- 42:57Cafe for a long time. I did not know this history.
- 43:01Yeah, Chase's dad, who we lost a few years ago and miss very
- 43:05much, was a restaurant tour and ran a ton of restaurants in
- 43:09Nashville and would kind of run a place for a few years and then
- 43:13move on to the next place. And it is all the Primo places
- 43:17in the city. It's all the classic spots, and
- 43:19Loveless was one of them. Oh my gosh, that's super cool.
- 43:22Yeah, shout out to Loveless Cafe.
- 43:24Yeah, yeah. And Chase McCabe.
- 43:27We'll take a break and come back with our interview of the week
- 43:30here on THE POP. She's Kara Hammer from Fred's
- 43:32TV. I'm Max Hearst from Fred's
- 43:33Radio. This is the Predators official
- 43:35podcast. Welcome back to the Predators
- 44:00official Podcast final segment here on Friday, December 13th.
- 44:04Many of you are hearing this on the radio on Saturday, December
- 44:0714th for the Fred's take on the Avalanche tonight in Denver at
- 44:118:00. That game is watchable on news
- 44:14Channel 5 CBS in the Nashville market so make sure you tune in
- 44:18on Channel 5 FanDuel Sports Network One O 25 The Game as
- 44:22Fred's look for two wins in a row after ending their losing
- 44:25streak on Thursday night in Dallas as they take on the ABS.
- 44:29We played for you back in the first segment.
- 44:30A clip from Kevin Gravel's postgame interview after that
- 44:34win with Hal and I on Fred's radio.
- 44:38And as I listen back to the interview for a second time,
- 44:41Kara, I heard something in the background.
- 44:45Listen and see if you hear what I hear, right?
- 44:47So This is why you work so hard down in the American League
- 44:50there and, you know, just wait and hopefully you get a call and
- 44:53get a chance and you got to do what you can to take advantage
- 44:55of the opportunity. So, you know, a great group of
- 44:58guys here, happy to happy to come in here, help him get a win
- 45:01and you know, feels good to get a win.
- 45:03Did you hear what I heard in the background there, Kara?
- 45:06I didn't quite catch it. All right, can we hear it one
- 45:08more time, please? Nick Frazier, you know, a great
- 45:10group of guys here happy to happy to come in here, help him
- 45:13get a win and, you know, feels good to get a win.
- 45:15I believe. I believe that.
- 45:19At around 10:00 on Thursday night, Philip Forsberg was
- 45:22standing next to the microphone where Kevin Gravel was
- 45:25conducting his interview, watching the Thursday Night
- 45:28Football game and complaining that his best friend George
- 45:31Kittle was not getting the ball thrown to him enough.
- 45:37Well, Kittle's kind of been on fire lately, right?
- 45:39Yeah, and apparently I did not get to watch any of this game
- 45:42because Fred's were playing at the same time.
- 45:44There were no touchdowns in this game, Rams and Niners.
- 45:47It was all field goals. Interesting.
- 45:50You know, I'm a Broncos fan, so I don't always, don't always
- 45:53watch what else is going on? I know the week previously
- 45:57though Kettle had he had broken up a record, right?
- 46:00Yeah, yeah, he's having a great season, but I just love it,
- 46:03Phil. Phil finishes off a win and
- 46:06immediately wanting his boy to get the ball more.
- 46:08Hey, can't complain, let's get off the ball.
- 46:11Philip Forsberg, Good guy, good friend.
- 46:14Get his friends the Dang ball. Come on, Brock Purdy, you're
- 46:17letting us down. One more story before we end the
- 46:21show here. We've talked about a couple of
- 46:22giveaways on the program today. We got a great giveaway in
- 46:26Ottawa when the presents were there last Saturday.
- 46:28It was Senators Gravy Boat Day and I was a little confused
- 46:32about the occasion because it was past American Thanksgiving.
- 46:37Canadian Thanksgiving is a month and a half before American
- 46:41Thanksgiving in October. So I went to the Sense
- 46:43announcers, my guys Dean and Gord up there in Ottawa, and
- 46:47asked them what the occasion was for Gravy Boat Night.
- 46:51And they said it was supposed to be back in October, in the last
- 46:55game before Canadian Thanksgiving, at a game early in
- 46:58the season. And because there was a
- 47:01longshoremen strike at Halifax Port on Canada's East Coast, the
- 47:08boat that brought the giveaway item over was not unloaded for
- 47:12multiple weeks while the longshoremen were striking.
- 47:16And we're happy to report that the longshoremen did get their
- 47:19strike settled. They got what they wanted.
- 47:21And according to Dean and Gord, you do not want to be on the
- 47:25longshoremen's bad side. So we support them here on The
- 47:28POP. So so did they.
- 47:33They didn't get the gravy boats, then held a special giveaway
- 47:37night to give out the gravy boats once they arrived.
- 47:39Yep. That's great.
- 47:46Did you get a gravy boat to take home?
- 47:48Oh, I absolutely did. Will you be using it?
- 47:51That's Hanukkah. I don't know if gravy is is
- 47:54quite a Hanukkah treat, but maybe.
- 47:58It could be like your table decoration.
- 48:00Yeah, one final thank you as we sign off here.
- 48:03Thanks for bringing it up. Cara Jewish Community Night was
- 48:05awesome this week. Everyone make sure you ask Terry
- 48:09Crisp about lighting the menorah because he really wanted to.
- 48:14The I don't know if he left the manure, but he did like the the
- 48:17barrel, the barrels right for the Christmas tree barrels
- 48:20outside of the outside of Pete and Terry's.
- 48:23He had it all covered. He had every religions lighting
- 48:26covered on Tuesday night in Smashville.
- 48:28And that's why we love the crisps.
- 48:29That's why we love you guys. Fred's back in the win column.
- 48:32Easy to celebrate. Talk to you guys.
- 48:34Coming up early next week, we'll be back with another episode of
- 48:37the Preds Begin a homestand on Tuesday.
- 48:39Thanks so much for listening to the POP Thank you to Nick
- 48:42Frazier, Doctor Crane for producing this episode back in
- 48:45Nashville with the POP on the road for Kara Hammer from Fred's
- 48:48TV. I'm Max Hearst from Fred's
- 48:49Radio. Thanks for listening to the
- 48:51Predators official Podcast and ESPN 102.5 The Game.
