- 2:38Speaker 2: charleston the director zach harrell joins us this morning good
- 2:40Speaker 2: morning sir welcome to the show.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Good morning dave thanks for having me thank.
- 2:43Speaker 2: You uh for being here there is so much oh
- 2:45Speaker 2: my gosh going on this week and i held on
- 2:48Speaker 2: to my Handy dandy little flyer that you gave me
- 2:50Speaker 2: the last time that you were here. What's one thing
- 2:52Speaker 2: about me you'll learn, Mr. Harold, is I am a
- 2:56Speaker 2: keeper of things. And very, I mean, you know, not
- 3:00Speaker 2: very organized in real life, but like radio life, I'm
- 3:03Speaker 2: extremely organized. Everything's always like in the same spot and
- 3:07Speaker 2: things like that. So, but, you know, rest of my life,
- 3:09Speaker 2: not so much. But anyway, so it's best to fall.
- 3:13Speaker 2: The time has arrived.
- 3:15Speaker 6: Yeah, no kidding. This week, we kick off, well, starting tomorrow,
- 3:19Speaker 6: we have Festive Fall Eve, and then we kick off
- 3:21Speaker 6: five days of art, dance, music, theater, and more with
- 3:25Speaker 6: a jam-packed schedule that's going to take us all the
- 3:28Speaker 6: way through the end of the weekend.
- 3:30Speaker 2: I mean, so I was looking, tomorrow, we'll just kind
- 3:34Speaker 2: of run through the schedule of events here. We're not
- 3:36Speaker 2: going to be able to cover it all in 10 minutes.
- 3:38Speaker 2: That's why it has the all slash fall name on it.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 3:41Speaker 2: We'll cover as much as we can. We'll make sure
- 3:43Speaker 2: people know to go to the social media and the
- 3:44Speaker 2: website if they want the a complete schedule. One of
- 3:46Speaker 2: the things that kind of caught my attention is this
- 3:48Speaker 2: drum circle that's going to be going on. Talk about that.
- 3:51Speaker 6: That is something that we do before every FestiFall and
- 3:55Speaker 6: now FestiVall. Chris Higgins organizes that with his folks over there.
- 4:02Speaker 6: This one is going to be at the Carter Giltman
- 4:05Speaker 6: Community Garden, which is at First Presbyterian Church here in downtown.
- 4:08Speaker 6: That's just a good time. I went to my very
- 4:11Speaker 6: first one within a month of taking this job last year,
- 4:15Speaker 6: and it's Whether you have any experience or not, it's
- 4:17Speaker 6: such a welcoming group. You don't even need a drum.
- 4:21Speaker 6: They'll have some that they bring for you. And everybody
- 4:25Speaker 6: just sits in a circle and jams for a couple hours.
- 4:29Speaker 6: Right up your alley, too. Yeah, it's a really good time.
- 4:33Speaker 6: And they'll help you out. They'll teach you how to
- 4:36Speaker 6: play certain different percussion instruments that don't just involve banging
- 4:40Speaker 6: your hands on them. Such a welcoming group and such
- 4:43Speaker 6: a great way to get started on uh, this week of,
- 4:47Speaker 6: of art, uh, by participating in it yourself.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Now, uh, on the 29th, uh, which is Tuesday, uh,
- 4:55Speaker 2: is that.
- 4:55Speaker 6: No, yeah, we're calling that festival. The drum circle's kind
- 4:58Speaker 6: of initiating.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So last week I had a chance to interview, uh,
- 5:02Speaker 2: and Magnuson on the show, uh, the best name ever
- 5:05Speaker 2: and Magnuson's bong water cabaret. It's happening at the empty glass. Now,
- 5:10Speaker 2: Michael Lipton was on with her last week, and they
- 5:12Speaker 2: said they can't use that word when they go on television,
- 5:15Speaker 2: bong water.
- 5:16Speaker 6: Yeah, we've been expressly told not to.
- 5:19Speaker 2: But I can use it, right?
- 5:20Speaker 6: I mean, I'm assuming as long as nobody writes a
- 5:22Speaker 6: letter to the FCC, right? You can say whatever you want.
- 5:27Speaker 2: You know I'm going to the Hall of Fame, right?
- 5:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 2: So they can't take that away from me. All right,
- 5:32Speaker 2: so that's going to be at the Empty Glass. Let's
- 5:33Speaker 2: move along. Congratulations, by the way.
- 5:35Speaker 6: Yeah, and that Anne Magnuson show is sold out.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Oh, okay. I was going to say there were two shows.
- 5:40Speaker 6: Are they both sold out? They're both sold out. But
- 5:42Speaker 6: in addition to that, if you didn't snag tickets, we're
- 5:44Speaker 6: also doing a little art show, and you can find
- 5:45Speaker 6: out details about this at festivefall.com called The Ultraviolet. Kind
- 5:50Speaker 6: of in that same trippy vibe of Anne's show, we're
- 5:52Speaker 6: doing a blacklight art show at the Ghost Gallery over
- 5:55Speaker 6: on the East End. with 11 local artists. Um, and
- 5:58Speaker 6: then you can buy some exclusive, uh, and Magnuson merch
- 6:02Speaker 6: over there at the same time.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And then you got three things going on. I had
- 6:05Speaker 2: a chance to do that a couple of years ago.
- 6:06Speaker 2: That was a blast.
- 6:07Speaker 6: That show is always so great.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I did that.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 6: You, you featured local, uh, notable local folks like yourself
- 6:13Speaker 6: and they get to interpret that prompt. My first, my favorite,
- 6:16Speaker 6: my future in, in whatever way they want. And, uh,
- 6:21Speaker 6: It's amazing what folks come up with. It's always a
- 6:23Speaker 6: good time. That's at 7 p.m. at the Capital Market tomorrow.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Or Wednesday, I'm sorry. All right, let's move to Thursday.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The Popcorn Social.
- 6:31Speaker 6: Yeah, with our friends at the West Virginia International Film Festival.
- 6:34Speaker 6: It's a free screening of Practical Magic at Goldenrod Kitchen
- 6:37Speaker 6: over there on the west side. And we're going to
- 6:39Speaker 6: have some vendors. We're going to have some live music. And,
- 6:41Speaker 6: of course, we're going to watch the movie.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And Friday, you've got the Downtown Charleston Art and Architecture
- 6:48Speaker 2: Walking Tour.
- 6:49Speaker 6: Yeah, Naomi Bay is doing two walking tours as part
- 6:52Speaker 6: of our schedule. She's doing one on Friday morning and
- 6:54Speaker 6: one on Saturday morning. Friday is the downtown. Saturday is
- 6:59Speaker 6: over in Elk City. And having grown up in this area,
- 7:03Speaker 6: it's always amazing once somebody points something out to you,
- 7:06Speaker 6: you've walked past for 20 years and never noticed. And
- 7:10Speaker 6: you'll just never see it the same way again. There's
- 7:13Speaker 6: so much hidden art and architecture in our town. It
- 7:16Speaker 6: really opens your eyes. And then also Friday evening, we
- 7:19Speaker 6: have an evening with the poets, which is with Mark Harshman,
- 7:25Speaker 6: West Virginia's Poet Laureate and featured guest poet Jane Hicks.
- 7:28Speaker 6: We also have Stories Between Worlds, which is a production
- 7:34Speaker 6: we're doing with a Ugandan musician named Chinobay. He's going
- 7:37Speaker 6: to be over at Poomsie's, which is a listening room
- 7:39Speaker 6: over there on the west side. Just one of the
- 7:42Speaker 6: most incredible musicians I've ever heard. That's a free show
- 7:45Speaker 6: at 7 p.m. at Poomsie's. And then at Folklore Music
- 7:48Speaker 6: Exchange down here on Summer Street, we have Nana Kay
- 7:54Speaker 6: at 7.30. She's Georgian-American. She's got this awesome blend of blues, rock,
- 7:59Speaker 6: alt country. That's also great. amazing georgian american yeah george
- 8:03Speaker 6: like not uh not the state i was gonna say
- 8:06Speaker 6: because this former soviet bloc.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I'm gonna say it is part of the united states just.
- 8:10Speaker 6: So you know that but i've got some family in
- 8:12Speaker 6: the united states version of georgia and it's a different
- 8:15Speaker 6: world down there i was born in.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Georgia okay you know all about it all right uh
- 8:19Speaker 2: all right so let's uh move ahead to let's let's
- 8:21Speaker 2: hit up saturday because that's when the things i mean
- 8:23Speaker 2: when you got a oh yeah higher days worth of.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Well we talked about the walking tour already we have
- 8:28Speaker 6: morning yoga But the Harvest Art Fair over there at
- 8:31Speaker 6: the Capital Market, just like our Capital Street Art Fair
- 8:34Speaker 6: during the summer, Harvest Art Fair is the crown jewel
- 8:36Speaker 6: of our schedule. We have 30 vendors who will be
- 8:40Speaker 6: over there selling their stuff. Great place to take care
- 8:42Speaker 6: of some early holiday shopping. We'll have Saturday and Sunday
- 8:47Speaker 6: two full days of free live music over there on
- 8:51Speaker 6: the stage with some great regional and local acts. We'll
- 8:56Speaker 6: have a bike tour. At 1130 that day with Sam Nygaard,
- 9:00Speaker 6: talking about public art, riding all around town. And then
- 9:03Speaker 6: at 4 p.m., we'll have our dance buses. Brand new
- 9:06Speaker 6: program with the West Virginia Dance Company, the state's only
- 9:09Speaker 6: professional touring dance company. With our friends at KRT, where
- 9:14Speaker 6: we do the art bus, where we wrap KRT buses
- 9:17Speaker 6: in local artists' work. The idea is the dancers, the attendees,
- 9:21Speaker 6: everybody files onto one of these dance buses, and then
- 9:23Speaker 6: we go on a five-stop tour of notable public art
- 9:27Speaker 6: in Charleston, which will be led by Jeff Pearson, head
- 9:29Speaker 6: of Charleston's Office of Public Art. And at each stop,
- 9:33Speaker 6: the dancers, everybody file off. The dancers will perform a
- 9:37Speaker 6: piece inspired by that art, and then it's back on
- 9:39Speaker 6: the bus and to the next stop until we reach
- 9:42Speaker 6: our finale at City Center. which will coincide almost exactly
- 9:47Speaker 6: with the beginning of City Center Dead, John Ingram's Grateful
- 9:52Speaker 6: Dead tribute. You know, why didn't he call his band
- 9:55Speaker 6: Uncle John's Band?
- 9:56Speaker 2: I mean, trademark.
- 9:57Speaker 6: It was right there.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Trademark.
- 9:59Speaker 7: Just.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Saying.
- 10:00Speaker 6: And I would bet that there's probably a Grateful Dead
- 10:02Speaker 6: tribute band somewhere already named Uncle John's Band.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I'm sure there is. Until the attorneys get a hold
- 10:08Speaker 2: of it.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:09Speaker 2: But that's going to be a great show.
- 10:10Speaker 6: Oh, my gosh.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Always.
- 10:11Speaker 6: I mean, he's got Jake Brownstein of the jam band
- 10:13Speaker 6: Eggie and Jason Hahn of the jam band String Cheese Incident,
- 10:17Speaker 6: as well as his regular bandmates, Brad Goodall. Brandon Bold's, J.P.
- 10:21Speaker 8: Novak.
- 10:22Speaker 6: That's always a great time. Whether you're like a Die
- 10:24Speaker 6: Hard Dead fan or not, it's just a good evening
- 10:27Speaker 6: over there at City Center.
- 10:29Speaker 2: With live music. That's the thing about it.
- 10:31Speaker 6: People get hyped for it.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:33Speaker 6: That's the best way to experience, I think, the music
- 10:35Speaker 6: of the Grateful Dead anyway is live in an open
- 10:39Speaker 6: venue like that.
- 10:40Speaker 8: All right.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Let's fast forward to Sunday.
- 10:42Speaker 6: Harvest Art Fair coming back. We have our carriage trail
- 10:44Speaker 6: leaf walk over there on the carriage trail across from
- 10:47Speaker 6: downtown with something new across every turn. We have some
- 10:51Speaker 6: great surprises over there. That's from 1 to 4 over
- 10:54Speaker 6: there on the carriage trail. You can either park downtown.
- 10:56Speaker 6: I would recommend parking downtown and walking across the bridge
- 10:59Speaker 6: or the Farmer Klein and Campbell lot. They let us
- 11:02Speaker 6: have people park up there too. So either park at
- 11:05Speaker 6: the top and walk down or park downtown and walk over.
- 11:08Speaker 6: Adventures in Motion, the West Virginia Dance Company, is back.
- 11:11Speaker 6: For that, at 1 p.m. at Capitol High School, that's
- 11:14Speaker 6: going to be a performance that kind of examines West
- 11:17Speaker 6: Virginia's history through the lens of modern dance. It'll be
- 11:20Speaker 6: an interesting time. And then we have this program at
- 11:23Speaker 6: 3 p.m. at Cavendish Hall in Kanawha City, which is
- 11:27Speaker 6: a venue that not a lot of people have heard about.
- 11:29Speaker 6: But John Cavendish bought this house like 30 or 40
- 11:32Speaker 6: years ago. It was a former Methodist church. that had
- 11:36Speaker 6: since gone defunct, and he preserved the sanctuary and turned
- 11:40Speaker 6: it into– it's his living room most of the time.
- 11:43Speaker 6: But throughout the year, he and his wife host concerts
- 11:47Speaker 6: in their living room. They push the furniture back and
- 11:50Speaker 6: set out chairs. They have two giant grand pianos in there,
- 11:52Speaker 6: and it's just one of the most beautiful places. And
- 11:55Speaker 6: it's this hidden gem that hardly anybody knows about, it seems.
- 11:59Speaker 6: That's at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October the 4th. Cavendish
- 12:02Speaker 6: Hall is having this afternoon of art song is what
- 12:05Speaker 6: we're calling it with a pianist and a singer over there.
- 12:08Speaker 6: And that's a free show. Donations encouraged to support the performers.
- 12:12Speaker 6: But that's a chance to see a music venue that,
- 12:18Speaker 6: like I said, is one of the hidden gems of
- 12:19Speaker 6: our city. And then wrapping it all up with Mountain Stage.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Yeah, Mountain Stage is going to be a great event
- 12:25Speaker 2: as it always is. All right, so. We've thrown a
- 12:28Speaker 2: lot of things about people. We pretty much run down
- 12:30Speaker 2: the entire schedule. We'll get the website and the social media.
- 12:33Speaker 2: But if somebody runs up to you and just says,
- 12:36Speaker 2: what exactly is FestiFall? Let's do something to make the
- 12:39Speaker 2: news people happy now. Give them a nice little sound
- 12:42Speaker 2: bite there.
- 12:43Speaker 6: FestiFall is an opportunity for us to highlight the local
- 12:47Speaker 6: talent in Charleston, as well as bring in talent from
- 12:50Speaker 6: outside town. here so our folks can enjoy it. And
- 12:55Speaker 6: the most important thing to us is that this is
- 12:57Speaker 6: family friendly and it's accessible to everybody. Even our ticketed
- 13:01Speaker 6: events are extremely cost effective. Most of the things we
- 13:05Speaker 6: do are free. So Festivall, I always say we take
- 13:09Speaker 6: the all part very seriously. We want to represent all
- 13:12Speaker 6: forms of art and we want it to be accessible
- 13:15Speaker 6: to all people. And that's what we try to do
- 13:17Speaker 6: twice a year. Festivall, we do this 10 day schedule
- 13:21Speaker 6: every As we begin our autumn season here. And then
- 13:25Speaker 6: we do it again in summer as a kickoff to summer.
- 13:27Speaker 6: And been doing that for almost a quarter of a century.
- 13:31Speaker 9: All right.
- 13:31Speaker 2: And where can people see the entire schedule and run
- 13:33Speaker 2: down everything?
- 13:34Speaker 6: Festivefall.com has the entire schedule. You can also check us
- 13:39Speaker 6: out on Facebook and Instagram, and we'll have all the
- 13:41Speaker 6: event information posted there as well.
- 13:43Speaker 8: All right.
- 13:44Speaker 2: We'll be talking about it throughout the week. Zach Harreld,
- 13:46Speaker 2: always a pleasure to have you on the show. And again,
- 13:48Speaker 2: everything is going on all this week. Can't say there's
- 13:51Speaker 2: nothing to do, man. And again, as Zach said, the
- 13:53Speaker 2: majority of the things are free. I mean, so there
- 13:56Speaker 2: you go. Appreciate you being here. It's 921, the Dave
- 13:58Speaker 2: Allen Show on 580 Live, brought to you by the
- 14:00Speaker 2: Charleston Dirty Birds Go-Mart Ballpark, being transformed into an outdoor
- 14:04Speaker 2: movie theater October the 9th for the Halloween Double Feature,

- 14:09Speaker 2: out Hocus Pocus, followed by the Addams Family, starting at
- 14:11Speaker 2: 7 o'clock. And again, that's on October the 7th at
- 14:14Speaker 2: Go-Mart Ballpark. Details available at DirtyBirdsBaseball.com. Danny Jones coming up
- 14:18Speaker 2: a little bit later on. And when, hold on, hold on,
- 14:21Speaker 2: hold on. I think I got a text here for you.
- 14:23Speaker 5: Hold on.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Zach, have you ever considered having a 50s sock hop
- 14:27Speaker 2: for families to introduce kids and grandkids to great music,
- 14:29Speaker 2: fun clothes, and a fun atmosphere?
- 14:31Speaker 10: That's a good idea.
- 14:32Speaker 2: There you go.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Noted.
- 14:34Speaker 6: I love the music. I was about to show Dave
- 14:36Speaker 6: a video of Chuck Berry after we get off air.
- 14:38Speaker 2: We were just talking about Chuck Berry. He and I
- 14:40Speaker 2: were off the air. All right. I appreciate that text.
- 14:43Speaker 2: As I was saying, Danny Jones coming up a little
- 14:44Speaker 2: bit later on, and we've got the folks from the
- 14:47Speaker 2: Spark of Love coming up next on The Voice of
- 14:49Speaker 2: Charleston WCHS.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Brought to you by the Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses.

- 15:13Speaker 3: The savings are on all summer long at Walker Chevrolet
- 15:17Speaker 3: in Nitro. Listen, if you're planning on dragging that old
- 15:20Speaker 3: worn out ride up and down the turnpike one more time,

- 17:43Speaker 2: They're calling it Hot Wheels for Santa. I love the name.
- 17:46Speaker 2: It's a car show and a cornhole tournament. Other stuff
- 17:48Speaker 2: going on at Ollie's in Dunbar. Saturday, October the 10th
- 17:51Speaker 2: from 11 to 4, presented by the Spark of Love Foundation. C.J.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Scalf is the director of Spark of Love, and he
- 17:57Speaker 2: joins us in the Jera Construction Studios along with a
- 17:59Speaker 2: friend of the program, Josh Higginbotham. Gentlemen, good morning and
- 18:02Speaker 2: welcome to the show.
- 18:04Speaker 10: Good morning. Thanks for having me. Appreciate it, Dave.
- 18:06Speaker 2: So, first of all, tell us what is the Spark
- 18:08Speaker 2: of Love Foundation, exactly what is it?
- 18:10Speaker 10: Uh, we are a charity for kids.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Um, we make sure we, well, we try our best
- 18:14Speaker 4: to make sure there's no kid that goes without a
- 18:17Speaker 4: Christmas present or a holiday meal during the holidays. Um,
- 18:21Speaker 4: last year we provided Christmas toys to around 2,500 kids.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Now, where did this come from? Where'd the whole idea
- 18:28Speaker 2: come from?
- 18:29Speaker 4: That's the crazy part about all of it.
- 18:31Speaker 10: Um, this will be our six years.
- 18:34Speaker 4: So six years ago, my wife and her grandma, which
- 18:38Speaker 4: she passed away at the about the third year into this,
- 18:41Speaker 4: but they was at Hobby Lobby out here at South Ridge.
- 18:44Speaker 4: And her grandma looked at Crystal and said, why don't
- 18:46Speaker 4: you and CJ start a toy drive to where it's
- 18:48Speaker 4: raised local stays local, you know, gets just make sure.
- 18:53Speaker 4: I mean, if you met her grandma, she was the
- 18:55Speaker 4: type of grandma that hugged everybody.
- 18:57Speaker 8: Oh yeah.
- 18:58Speaker 2: And, uh, stereotypical grandma. And I mean, in the best
- 19:00Speaker 2: possible way.
- 19:01Speaker 8: Yes.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Probably a good cook too. Oh yeah.
- 19:04Speaker 10: I missed the food.
- 19:05Speaker 2: They teach you that in mamaw school.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 10: But, uh, so we done it.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Um, The first year, when Crystal brought it to me,
- 19:12Speaker 4: I thought she meant start it right away. Well, she's
- 19:16Speaker 4: actually talking about planning. Because it's like two weeks before Thanksgiving,
- 19:20Speaker 4: something like that. And so I went at the fire
- 19:23Speaker 4: department that I was on at the time. I went
- 19:25Speaker 4: down there and pitched the idea. They were like, let's
- 19:27Speaker 4: do it. So we had two weeks to get it
- 19:31Speaker 4: all going. We still helped close to 300 kids. And
- 19:34Speaker 4: ever since then, it's doubled every year. Then our third year,
- 19:38Speaker 4: my dad passed away the second year into it, right before, um,
- 19:43Speaker 4: right before he's giving toys out so yeah which it
- 19:47Speaker 4: helped me get through you know losing my dad and
- 19:50Speaker 4: stuff then the third year her grandma passed away and
- 19:53Speaker 4: that's when which my me and my wife make this
- 19:55Speaker 4: joke about the angel in the outfield movie like where
- 19:58Speaker 4: they flap their arms.
- 19:59Speaker 10: And from september december that year we.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Raised thirty thousand dollars for this thing so at that
- 20:04Speaker 4: time uh a buddy of mine which officer messer which
- 20:08Speaker 4: he's another good partner of ours and does, he does
- 20:11Speaker 4: tremendous stuff for kids too. He's like, y'all need to
- 20:13Speaker 4: get your 501c3 so you can span this out.
- 20:16Speaker 10: So we did.
- 20:16Speaker 9: And ever since then, it's just. 2,500 kids last year. Josh,
- 20:22Speaker 9: I want to, this is Josh Hagebotham. What's your involvement
- 20:24Speaker 9: in this? Yeah. Well, so I, uh, I was an
- 20:27Speaker 9: early helper, uh, five or six years ago.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Uh, I knew him through the fire department.
- 20:33Speaker 9: And then this year he approached me a couple months
- 20:35Speaker 9: ago about this car show idea on October 10th in Dunbar.
- 20:39Speaker 9: And so I decided, you know, my company, Higginbotham Consulting,
- 20:43Speaker 9: is going to be the title sponsor. It'll be their
- 20:45Speaker 9: first ever car show that they've ever had. They just
- 20:48Speaker 9: had their golf tournament last Saturday, raised a ton of money,
- 20:51Speaker 9: got some donations. And, of course, they're going to have
- 20:55Speaker 9: their toy drives throughout the fall and on into Christmas.
- 21:00Speaker 2: But this is their first.
- 21:01Speaker 10: Event, and they're really, really excited.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Now, if people come out to the— and we'll give you
- 21:05Speaker 2: all the details on the car show. If people come
- 21:07Speaker 2: out and they want to make monetary donations, I'm presuming
- 21:10Speaker 2: you could take them there. I mean, do you want
- 21:12Speaker 2: people to bring toys when they come out? Whichever one
- 21:15Speaker 2: they— But new unwrapped toys. Yeah, this is really kicking
- 21:18Speaker 2: off the toy thing. This is like the kickoff for it.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Then October 23rd, 24th, and 25th will be— That's, I guess,
- 21:28Speaker 4: technically the official start of the toy drive at Cross
- 21:30Speaker 4: Lanes Walmart.
- 21:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 21:31Speaker 1: All right.
- 21:32Speaker 10: But this is like, you know, getting the Christmas theme
- 21:35Speaker 10: into it.
- 21:35Speaker 2: What made you decide to want to do a car show?
- 21:37Speaker 2: Because you got a car show, you got corn holes, 50-50.
- 21:40Speaker 2: We'll run down the schedule, as I said. But what
- 21:42Speaker 2: made you decide to want to do the car show
- 21:44Speaker 2: aspect of it?
- 21:44Speaker 4: Well, all these manager Bob down there in Dunbar, he's
- 21:48Speaker 4: a big car guy and he's a big helper with
- 21:50Speaker 4: the toy side of it. And he's like, have y'all
- 21:53Speaker 4: ever thought about doing one? And I was like, we
- 21:55Speaker 4: thought about it, but. we never really, you know, put
- 21:59Speaker 4: it together. So we started playing it. Like Josh said,
- 22:02Speaker 4: when we thank you so much for being our title sponsor.
- 22:06Speaker 10: Um, that's another thing.
- 22:07Speaker 4: We couldn't do none of this stuff without donors like
- 22:09Speaker 4: Josh and sponsors and all that.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Do you need more sponsors at this point, guys? I mean,
- 22:15Speaker 2: we're always looking.
- 22:16Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 22:18Speaker 10: We're always looking for sponsors.
- 22:19Speaker 8: Um, yeah.
- 22:20Speaker 4: Like the golf tournament just off sponsors alone. We raised
- 22:23Speaker 4: almost $ 11, 000 in sponsors. And that was our second year
- 22:27Speaker 4: for the golf tournament. I'm not a golfer, which I'm
- 22:30Speaker 4: trying to learn. I'm trying to learn.
- 22:32Speaker 7: Are you a golfer?
- 22:33Speaker 9: Uh, no, no, I I'm bad at it. I, uh,
- 22:36Speaker 9: I like to ride in the cart.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Does that, does that count for anything?
- 22:39Speaker 9: Uh, I can, I can bring water to people and
- 22:41Speaker 9: watch them. I get out of breath just watching. That's
- 22:44Speaker 9: pretty much what I do. Uh, but well, that's amazing.
- 22:47Speaker 2: And if people want to get this out there, your
- 22:49Speaker 2: people would like to be a sponsor. Uh, you guys,
- 22:52Speaker 2: Higginbotham Consulting, you're going to be the title sponsor, but
- 22:54Speaker 2: if there's other sponsorship, you have them tiered or is it,
- 22:56Speaker 2: I mean, how's the sponsorship work?
- 22:58Speaker 4: Just on this one, we could just kind of, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 4: we'd So far, Josh is our, he's the big only sponsor.
- 23:06Speaker 4: We've had some smaller tiers. I didn't really go into
- 23:09Speaker 4: the tiers on this because where it.
- 23:10Speaker 10: Was straight off.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Right, I got you.
- 23:12Speaker 10: Straight off the golf turn.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I get you.
- 23:14Speaker 10: But, I mean, just, I mean, if they want to
- 23:16Speaker 10: donate toys, well, toys is sponsored. I mean, it's.
- 23:20Speaker 9: Monetary or, of course, in-kind toy donations. And you guys
- 23:24Speaker 9: do even gift cards that you all can go buy
- 23:27Speaker 9: the toys.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's an easy way for people.
- 23:30Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Um people to come out there all right so um
- 23:33Speaker 2: and i've been to the ollies and dunbar numerous times
- 23:35Speaker 2: i'm trying to picture do you think i mean we
- 23:37Speaker 2: could fill up that entire parking lot yeah.
- 23:39Speaker 4: That's what that's reason that's another reason bob the manager
- 23:41Speaker 4: down there mentioned doing it there because it's such a
- 23:43Speaker 4: big flat lot there's plenty of room like i would
- 23:48Speaker 4: be really thrilled if the whole lot's just filled up
- 23:50Speaker 4: with cars for these kids.
- 23:51Speaker 9: And right now yes of course sponsorships but We need
- 23:54Speaker 9: people to sign up and actually be there with their
- 23:57Speaker 9: antique vehicles. This is kind of a new group of
- 24:00Speaker 9: people that the Spark of Love Foundation is reaching out to.
- 24:03Speaker 9: Of course, a lot of golfers, first responders, fire departments,
- 24:07Speaker 9: they've been very involved in that for years. Uh, but, uh,
- 24:10Speaker 9: this is a community that's very tight knit. Uh, and, uh,
- 24:14Speaker 9: I know for a fact based on other car shows
- 24:16Speaker 9: here in the area, there's a lot of antique car.
- 24:18Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 24:18Speaker 2: And it doesn't have to be antique or can it
- 24:20Speaker 2: be any kind of car? No, we've got, if you're
- 24:22Speaker 2: proud of one of the folks that puts on car
- 24:24Speaker 2: shows says our, our deal is if you're proud of
- 24:27Speaker 2: your vehicle, we want it to be there. That's pretty
- 24:29Speaker 2: much doesn't matter whether how old it is or whatever.
- 24:32Speaker 2: We want it to be there.
- 24:33Speaker 10: That's how we look at it too.
- 24:34Speaker 4: I mean, if anybody wants to come out and support
- 24:36Speaker 4: these kids, it's going to be benefiting from this. We
- 24:38Speaker 4: love to have it. Everybody's welcome. We've got some different classes,
- 24:41Speaker 4: like the awards so far. We're still setting some of
- 24:44Speaker 4: these up, but we're going to have best of show,
- 24:46Speaker 4: best classic, best modern, best motorcycle. We're probably going to
- 24:51Speaker 4: throw in a best Jeep.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Okay. I did notice that you were talking about motorcycles
- 24:55Speaker 2: and ATVs and stuff like that. That's a little different
- 24:57Speaker 2: because not a lot of car shows have categories like that.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Well, we even got one for, I was 50-50 on
- 25:05Speaker 4: mentioning it, but I was trying to save the surprise.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Well, you'll have to mention it if you want.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 25:12Speaker 10: It's a good one.
- 25:13Speaker 4: Even the best power wheel for kids. So if the
- 25:15Speaker 4: kids got a nice power wheel, load that thing up. Now,
- 25:20Speaker 4: we're not charging the entry fee for kids. If they
- 25:23Speaker 4: want to come show off their power wheel truck, but
- 25:25Speaker 4: they're still going to.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Now, explain what a power wheel is.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Like the little trucks, like the little electric vehicles you
- 25:33Speaker 4: see kids.
- 25:33Speaker 6: Driving around in.
- 25:34Speaker 10: I mean, it can be any of them. I mean.
- 25:37Speaker 10: They got F-150.
- 25:38Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 25:38Speaker 4: I mean, they pretty much make them and everything now.
- 25:41Speaker 4: But like I said, we want kids involved. So if
- 25:46Speaker 4: they want to bring their power wheel out. And that's
- 25:51Speaker 4: what it's all about. I mean, that's how we do
- 25:54Speaker 4: the golf. Anything we do, we like the kids. We
- 25:56Speaker 4: want it family friendly. Because, I mean, that's what. Our
- 25:58Speaker 4: foundation is about us. There will be food trucks there
- 26:01Speaker 4: as well.
- 26:01Speaker 8: Okay.
- 26:02Speaker 2: All right. Now you really have my– cars get my
- 26:04Speaker 2: attention anyway, but now you've really got my attention. Do
- 26:06Speaker 2: we have any– do you have the names of the
- 26:08Speaker 2: food trucks yet?
- 26:09Speaker 10: Yeah, we got Wild and Wonderful Rolls.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Oh, they're fantastic. They actually won at least one year
- 26:14Speaker 2: that I'm aware of, Rolls on the River, down here
- 26:17Speaker 2: in Charleston. I believe they did.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:19Speaker 4: And then Old Goodness Mini Donuts and Juanita's Mexican Truck.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:26Speaker 1: All right.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Can you still accept more, I mean, as far as, like,
- 26:29Speaker 2: food trucks go and things like that?
- 26:30Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I'd say we've got room for at
- 26:33Speaker 10: least a couple more.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Okay, so if you've got a food truck and you've
- 26:36Speaker 2: got a– and the thing about car shows is you
- 26:38Speaker 2: really have a captive audience, you know, because, I mean,
- 26:41Speaker 2: it starts at, what did you say, 11?
- 26:42Speaker 12: 11.
- 26:42Speaker 13: 11, okay.
- 26:43Speaker 12: 11 to 4.
- 26:43Speaker 2: 11 to 4, so– Those folks that are there are
- 26:48Speaker 2: going to spend a couple hours probably walking around looking
- 26:50Speaker 2: at the cars. But the people that are actually there
- 26:52Speaker 2: displaying their cars, well, you've got a captive audience there.
- 26:56Speaker 2: So if you've got a food truck out there, you
- 26:58Speaker 2: should be able to make a little bank out there
- 27:00Speaker 2: with those cars, especially if the weather is really nice.
- 27:03Speaker 2: If we should have inclement weather, you don't have to
- 27:05Speaker 2: give me a date because we don't put that bad
- 27:07Speaker 2: vibe out there. But do you have plans if you
- 27:10Speaker 2: would have to postpone it? You don't have to tell
- 27:12Speaker 2: me the date, but would you?
- 27:13Speaker 10: Yeah, if that happens, we'll definitely reschedule it.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Okay.
- 27:17Speaker 10: All right.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Well, hopefully we'll work with Brian Hughes and hopefully we'll
- 27:20Speaker 2: get that taken care of. We have a Texas's day.
- 27:21Speaker 2: They need to award best import car also. And this
- 27:24Speaker 2: is a great program talking to the spark of love.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:27Speaker 10: Well, I'll add that to the list.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Best import car. Like I said, all, all types are welcome.
- 27:32Speaker 4: I mean, they've got to push them in there. It's
- 27:35Speaker 4: if they're proud of it.
- 27:36Speaker 2: As long as it looks good. That's all that matters.
- 27:38Speaker 2: And look, I have been around the car show culture
- 27:40Speaker 2: for a long time. I've talked, told the listener before
- 27:42Speaker 2: my brother-in-law is big in the car shows. And I have, uh,
- 27:46Speaker 2: I have been around a lot of car shows, driving
- 27:48Speaker 2: his cars there, you know, and it's a culture. I mean,
- 27:52Speaker 2: it really, really is. And especially here in the Kanawha
- 27:55Speaker 2: Valley and in West Virginia, we love our cars here.
- 27:57Speaker 2: It's a lot bigger deal here than what it is
- 27:59Speaker 2: in some areas. Josh, you know. That's true.
- 28:01Speaker 10: Absolutely.
- 28:02Speaker 9: And here's the beautiful thing about having this in the fall.
- 28:05Speaker 9: The weather is much cooler.
- 28:07Speaker 10: People are more willing to come out.
- 28:09Speaker 9: And I love these car shows. I've gone to the
- 28:11Speaker 9: ones in Nitro, out here on the boulevard. It's always
- 28:13Speaker 9: during the summer and I'm fat and it's hot. And
- 28:16Speaker 9: so I like the fact that this is in October,
- 28:18Speaker 9: which is why I wanted to be the title sponsor.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Where can people learn more? You got social media websites?
- 28:23Speaker 2: What you got?
- 28:23Speaker 4: Yeah, our social media is just the Spark of Love Foundation.
- 28:26Speaker 4: And our website's just thesparkoflovefoundation.org.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Where did you come up with the name, Spark of Love?
- 28:33Speaker 10: My wife done that in memory of her grandma.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Okay, okay. I didn't know that's where the actual name
- 28:37Speaker 2: came from, though.
- 28:38Speaker 10: That and it's a combination of things, but she came
- 28:41Speaker 10: up with it.
- 28:41Speaker 5: I like it.
- 28:41Speaker 10: It's mainly her grandma. Then our logo's got the angel
- 28:44Speaker 10: wings around the heart.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Good stuff. Again, give us the date, the times.
- 28:48Speaker 9: It is October 10th in Dunbar at Ollie's. And it
- 28:53Speaker 9: is from 11 a.m.
- 28:54Speaker 10: To 4 p.m.
- 28:55Speaker 2: All right. And we'll be talking about it as we
- 28:56Speaker 2: get a little bit closer. Website, social media. Again, just
- 28:59Speaker 2: want to make sure people get it.
- 29:00Speaker 10: The Spark of Love Foundation is on Facebook.
- 29:03Speaker 4: And the website's just thesparkoflovefoundation.org.
- 29:06Speaker 8: All right.
- 29:07Speaker 5: Hold on.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Got another question here for you guys. We have a
- 29:10Speaker 2: DJ set up playing some music.
- 29:12Speaker 10: No, but we would love to have one.
- 29:13Speaker 2: All right. Well, I don't know if he's in right now,
- 29:15Speaker 2: but right down this hallway, Matt Guitar Murphy. One of
- 29:18Speaker 2: the best around. There's several here in Charleston. I would
- 29:22Speaker 2: advise you, if you can, to get somebody to play
- 29:25Speaker 2: some music because it really goes along with it. I mean,
- 29:28Speaker 2: kind of to the whole vibe, especially if you get
- 29:30Speaker 2: somebody like a man. I'm doing commercials for Matt Murphy now,
- 29:33Speaker 2: but somebody that understands that you want to play a
- 29:35Speaker 2: different variety of music. You want to hit the 50s, 60s, 70s,
- 29:38Speaker 2: little bit of modern stuff. but just feel good dance music.
- 29:42Speaker 2: Get yourself a DJ. You got to do that.
- 29:43Speaker 6: Okay.
- 29:44Speaker 2: All right.
- 29:44Speaker 10: We'll do. All right.
- 29:45Speaker 2: All right, guys. Appreciate you both being here. Thanks a lot.
- 29:48Speaker 2: The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live is brought to
- 29:50Speaker 2: you in part by Morgan & Morgan, America's largest injury
- 29:52Speaker 2: law firm. It is 937. We are going to take
- 29:54Speaker 2: a break. And when we come back, Danny Jones is here.
- 29:57Speaker 2: A car guy himself, I don't know whether you know
- 30:00Speaker 2: Danny or not, but Danny is actually out in California
- 30:02Speaker 2: right now. And so somebody suggested he's got a classic.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I got a couple of them, actually. Somebody suggested he
- 30:09Speaker 2: bring it there. He hauled it to California, so I
- 30:11Speaker 2: don't know if he wants to haul it back or not.
- 30:13Speaker 2: But we'll try to get Danny out there as well.
- 30:15Speaker 2: We'll talk to Danny when we come back on The
- 30:17Speaker 2: Voice of Charleston WCHS.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Brought to you by the Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses have been creating jobs in
- 30:25Speaker 1: West Virginia since 1997.
- 30:28Speaker 7: I'm Jason Lowe, the lead pastor of Faith Community Church
- 30:30Speaker 7: in Beckley. If you are looking for a construction company,
- 30:33Speaker 7: I would strongly recommend Jarrett Construction. John and his team
- 30:35Speaker 7: walked us through the process of building our church from
- 30:37Speaker 7: conceptualization to having a finished, fully functional building. When you build,
- 30:41Speaker 7: there are always challenges, and you need a partner who
- 30:43Speaker 7: will be present, take responsibility for the finished product, and
- 30:45Speaker 7: effectively manage time and money. The team at Jarrett Construction
- 30:48Speaker 7: was a godsend to us, and I'm excited to recommend
- 30:50Speaker 7: them to other churches, businesses, or anyone needing a construction
- 30:54Speaker 7: company they can trust.
- 30:55Speaker 2: License number WV030133.
- 30:58Speaker 13: It's week six of the high school football season on
- 31:00Speaker 13: Metro News TV, including Linsley Academy at University and Ravenswood
- 31:05Speaker 13: in Roan County on Metro News TV, plus your favorite
- 31:08Speaker 13: daily shows and state of minds. Download the app on
- 31:11Speaker 13: your smart TV or streaming device and get more information
- 31:14Speaker 13: at WVMetroNewsTV.com. Metro News Television is powered by Dancava GMC, Go-Mart,
- 31:21Speaker 13: Lewindel Marine, and Panhandle Cleaning and Restoration.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Biggest Ram sale in years is underway right now at
- 31:31Speaker 3: Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Hurricane. Now, if you've
- 31:34Speaker 3: been eyeing a new truck, now is the time to
- 31:36Speaker 3: make it happen. You're not going to find deals like
- 31:38Speaker 3: this anywhere else in the Kanawha Valley. Right now at Walker,
- 31:42Speaker 3: new Ram 1500 trucks are in stock with up to $ 21, 000
- 31:46Speaker 3: off MSRP.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right.
- 31:48Speaker 3: New Ram 1500 trucks starting at just $ 45, 000.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Look, deals like this are practically unheard of these days.
- 31:56Speaker 3: And you already know that you're going to get the
- 31:57Speaker 3: best deal possible in Walker because Gene and Ryan built
- 32:00Speaker 3: their business the old-fashioned way by making friends. There are
- 32:04Speaker 3: no gimmicks or games in Walker, just honest.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Fair deals.
- 32:07Speaker 3: And when it comes to trucks, nobody does it better
- 32:09Speaker 3: than Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. But hurry, because at
- 32:13Speaker 3: these prices, these trucks aren't going to last long. So
- 32:16Speaker 3: take that short 20-minute drive from Charleston or Huntington to
- 32:19Speaker 3: Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Just off the Hurrican exit
- 32:21Speaker 3: of I-64, Walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram. Making friends one
- 32:25Speaker 3: deal at a time.
- 32:38Speaker 2: That's the sounds of the Amos Steel Band, the official
- 32:41Speaker 2: band of the Dave Allen Show. If you've got an
- 32:43Speaker 2: event coming up, those guys would be perfect to play.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Matter of fact, I don't know why I didn't think
- 32:48Speaker 2: of this earlier. Perhaps maybe we get them to play
- 32:50Speaker 2: at this car show that we were just talking about.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Huh?
- 32:52Speaker 10: How's that?
- 32:53Speaker 4: All right.
- 32:53Speaker 2: So, Mr. Higginbotham, Mr. Scalf, maybe we'll get you hooked
- 32:56Speaker 2: up with the Dunbar, with the folks at Spark of Love.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:00Speaker 2: So anyway, if you need to get an event coming up,
- 33:02Speaker 2: you got a fall festival going on, you got a
- 33:04Speaker 2: car show, you got something like that, and you need
- 33:06Speaker 2: a band, look up the guys. The name is Steel Band.
- 33:07Speaker 2: They are on Facebook. The Dave Allen Show on 580
- 33:10Speaker 2: Live brought to you in part by Pinnacle Consultants, helping
- 33:13Speaker 2: to identify environmental concerns like asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor
- 33:16Speaker 2: quality issues in buildings all across the state, providing inspections, testing,
- 33:20Speaker 2: and accredited lab services you can trust. Check out PinnacleCorp.net,
- 33:24Speaker 2: helping you understand your environment because what you don't know
- 33:26Speaker 2: can't hurt you. I understand we are efforting to Danny Jones,
- 33:29Speaker 2: it is early out in California for Danny, but I
- 33:32Speaker 2: know Danny, he's kind of like me, he's an early riser.
- 33:35Speaker 2: And so it is 6.41, I guess, out there in
- 33:37Speaker 2: California right now. And I hope everything is okay with Danny.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Producer Ryan is working to try to get him on
- 33:44Speaker 2: the show with us right now. It would be a
- 33:45Speaker 2: shame if we didn't have our weekly visit with Danny,
- 33:47Speaker 2: but he's living it up out there in the LBC,
- 33:50Speaker 2: as Snoop Dogg once said. So we will try our
- 33:53Speaker 2: best to get Danny on the show with us. Coming
- 33:55Speaker 2: up later today, Metro News Midday. We've been telling you
- 33:59Speaker 2: about this event that WCHS is sponsoring late this afternoon
- 34:03Speaker 2: and early evening at the Capitol Market featuring Kathy Garver,
- 34:07Speaker 2: who played Sissy on Family Affair.
- 34:10Speaker 10: Mrs.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Gilligan at Dream of Denver. We had her on the
- 34:12Speaker 2: show last week. And Julie McCullough from Growing Pain. She
- 34:15Speaker 2: was also on this show, Sharknado. They're going to be
- 34:18Speaker 2: at Capitol Market this afternoon. starting at 4 o'clock for
- 34:22Speaker 2: a meet-and-greet type of event. And there's no charge or
- 34:25Speaker 2: anything like that just to come out. Now, I will
- 34:27Speaker 2: say that I think at least a couple of those
- 34:29Speaker 2: folks are going to have books to sell. Dream of
- 34:30Speaker 2: Denver has actually written a couple of books, including, as
- 34:33Speaker 2: she mentioned to us last week, a children's book. So
- 34:36Speaker 2: they are going to actually join us in studio today.
- 34:40Speaker 2: So we're looking forward to talking to them. uh mrs
- 34:42Speaker 2: gilligan dream of denver who is an absolute gem of
- 34:46Speaker 2: a human being julie mccullough who i've never met she
- 34:49Speaker 2: was on the show sharknado and growing pains and also
- 34:52Speaker 2: uh sissy from family affair kathy garver i've never met
- 34:55Speaker 2: her either they're all three going to be at capital
- 34:57Speaker 2: market starting at four o'clock today and again it's free
- 35:01Speaker 2: event if you want to come out you want to
- 35:02Speaker 2: get pictures you want to get autographs burke allen big
- 35:05Speaker 2: brother is going to be doing i think a little
- 35:07Speaker 2: q a i'm going to be there i think coop
- 35:09Speaker 2: and some of the others from the stations are going
- 35:10Speaker 2: to be there so Hopefully you can join us. All
- 35:12Speaker 2: three of those ladies will join us in studio coming
- 35:15Speaker 2: up on the show today. TJ Meadows is going to
- 35:18Speaker 2: stop by with commentary. You know, I got to say,
- 35:21Speaker 2: if you want to get a little preview, and I
- 35:23Speaker 2: actually heard it this morning when I was driving in
- 35:25Speaker 2: and read it at the website, wvmetronews.com. TJ has questions
- 35:30Speaker 2: about the gift shop at the Culture Center. And his
- 35:34Speaker 2: take on it is because, I mean, there's been all
- 35:36Speaker 2: kinds of problems apparently with it. You know, the Not
- 35:39Speaker 2: really a profit and loss report has been done or
- 35:43Speaker 2: anything like that. So T.J., kind of his take on
- 35:47Speaker 2: it is that the state should not be involved in
- 35:49Speaker 2: things like that to begin with. Leave that up to
- 35:51Speaker 2: private entrepreneurs. And not everybody agreed with him. I'm just
- 35:56Speaker 2: going to say not everybody agreed with him if you
- 35:58Speaker 2: go and read the comments on the website. So T.J.
- 36:02Speaker 2: is going to join us to talk about that. Jeff
- 36:03Speaker 2: Jenkins will have the news. The director of the West
- 36:05Speaker 2: Virginia Film Office, Dave Lavender, is going to stop by
- 36:09Speaker 2: the show today. Also, I told you on the local
- 36:11Speaker 2: show a week or so ago about these Chick-fil-A Inspiration Awards. Now,
- 36:17Speaker 2: the folks at Union Mission, which is based here in Charleston,
- 36:20Speaker 2: have already picked up $ 35, 000 in grant money, and they
- 36:23Speaker 2: have a chance for even more. They are the only
- 36:25Speaker 2: nonprofit in the state of West Virginia that's in the
- 36:28Speaker 2: running for this big-time award from Chick-fil-A. They are Chick-fil-A
- 36:34Speaker 2: looking for people doing great things in their community. And again,
- 36:38Speaker 2: Union Mission, based here in Charleston, is the only one,
- 36:41Speaker 2: only representative, only person in the, only entity, I should say,
- 36:44Speaker 2: in the running for this. And so, but it all
- 36:48Speaker 2: depends on you voting for them by downloading the Chick-fil-A
- 36:51Speaker 2: app and then going from there. So we're going to
- 36:53Speaker 2: be joined by Tom Mintern, who owns a few of
- 36:56Speaker 2: the Chick-fil-A's here in the area, and also Jason Quintrell
- 36:58Speaker 2: from Union Mission. They will join us on the show
- 37:01Speaker 2: today as well. All that and more coming up later today.
- 37:04Speaker 2: on Metro News Midday, powered by Solango Law. Now, on
- 37:07Speaker 2: this show tomorrow, this Saturday, is October West in Charleston,
- 37:12Speaker 2: presented by Charleston Urban Works. Rick Caveter from Charleston Urban
- 37:16Speaker 2: Works is going to be here. And again, this is
- 37:19Speaker 2: a big event. It happens, I mean, a couple thousand
- 37:21Speaker 2: people will be on the west end of Charleston this
- 37:23Speaker 2: coming Saturday afternoon. All of our stations will be there.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Rick Caveter from Charleston Urban Works is going to join
- 37:28Speaker 2: us to talk about that. Also, if you were listening
- 37:33Speaker 2: to our one of our sister stations, 96.1 KWS this morning,
- 37:37Speaker 2: you may have heard a familiar voice. Billy Brown, who
- 37:41Speaker 2: previously worked for us, is back. Billy is the new
- 37:45Speaker 2: morning guy at 96.1 KWS, and so he is going
- 37:49Speaker 2: to join us on the show tomorrow. And Billy worked
- 37:53Speaker 2: for us a couple years ago. He's been away, I think,
- 37:55Speaker 2: for three or four years, and now he is taking
- 37:58Speaker 2: over the morning show, starting 96.1 KWS, 5 a.m., 5
- 38:01Speaker 2: to 10 a.m., Again, 96.1 KWS. So great to have
- 38:07Speaker 2: Billy back with us. And I had a chance to,
- 38:09Speaker 2: didn't want to bother him this morning because he was
- 38:11Speaker 2: in there, you know, working a little bit this morning.
- 38:14Speaker 2: But I did get a chance to talk to him upstairs.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Great to have Billy back with us. Great talent. Great guy.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Great in the community. And so he's going to join
- 38:21Speaker 2: us coming up on the show tomorrow. Quick programming note.
- 38:24Speaker 2: I am going to be away from this show and
- 38:26Speaker 2: the midday show this coming Thursday and Friday. Taking a
- 38:29Speaker 2: couple days off. I will be at an undisclosed beach
- 38:33Speaker 2: with a drink in hand. So I will be off
- 38:35Speaker 2: Thursday and Friday. I will be back with you, though,
- 38:38Speaker 2: next Monday. I don't know whether you happen to catch
- 38:43Speaker 2: this or not. There was an event. I don't mean
- 38:51Speaker 2: to laugh about it, but if you go over to
- 38:54Speaker 2: my my social media, if you go over to Dave
- 38:56Speaker 2: Allen Radio and Facebook around 10 o'clock last night, a truck.
- 39:01Speaker 2: ended up right in the middle of the Hurricane Reservoir. Now,
- 39:05Speaker 2: this is the waterway that if you are driving on
- 39:08Speaker 2: Taze Valley Road, it's next to Hurricane City Park, where
- 39:11Speaker 2: they just had the fall festival on Saturday, and across
- 39:13Speaker 2: from Mid-Valley Square. You always see folks out there fishing
- 39:16Speaker 2: and whatever. Dude drove right in the middle of the reservoir. Now,
- 39:19Speaker 2: to be fair, from what I've been told, is that
- 39:22Speaker 2: it was some sort of a mechanical issue on his vehicle.
- 39:25Speaker 2: That's what I've been told. And Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards
- 39:28Speaker 2: actually posted the video online on his social media, and
- 39:31Speaker 2: I shared it to mine. The gentleman, thankfully, was not injured.
- 39:33Speaker 2: So that's why I guess we're able to, I don't
- 39:35Speaker 2: want to say laugh about it, but, you know, grin
- 39:38Speaker 2: about it.
- 39:38Speaker 6: How's that?
- 39:39Speaker 2: But so if you need a video of a truck
- 39:42Speaker 2: jumping into the reservoir in Hurricane, I've got it posted
- 39:45Speaker 2: right now, on Dave Allen Radio, so go and check
- 39:47Speaker 2: that out. I invite you to join me every Friday morning, 9-0-6,
- 39:50Speaker 2: for the Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week from
- 39:52Speaker 2: the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, brought to you by Almost Heaven Interiors, family-owned,
- 39:56Speaker 2: proudly serving the community for over 50 years. They specialize
- 39:59Speaker 2: in custom blinds, shade shutters, upholstery, and beautifully crafted sewn goods,
- 40:03Speaker 2: homes to hospitals, classrooms to commercial spaces. They can do
- 40:06Speaker 2: it all. They're located at 516 D Street in South Charleston.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Let me knock out a couple texts. I don't know
- 40:11Speaker 2: whether we're going to have Danny today or not. We
- 40:14Speaker 2: are working to get Danny. Text, heard Billy on the
- 40:18Speaker 2: air this morning with Crash. Welcome back, Billy Brown.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Indeed.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Billy's a good dude, and he and I like to
- 40:23Speaker 2: talk football. As big a Dallas Cowboy fan as I am,
- 40:26Speaker 2: he's that big of a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. So we
- 40:28Speaker 2: like to go back and forth a little bit. But, again,
- 40:30Speaker 2: I'll have Billy on the show. And what Billy doesn't
- 40:32Speaker 2: know is, as I said, I passed him in the
- 40:35Speaker 2: hall this morning, and I said, hey, are you available
- 40:39Speaker 2: 9-20 tomorrow morning to come in and talk to me
- 40:40Speaker 2: a little bit? He goes, oh, yeah, yeah, sure, that'll
- 40:42Speaker 2: be fine. He doesn't know that I'm going to be
- 40:44Speaker 2: playing the infamous 10 questions game with him. So he
- 40:47Speaker 2: doesn't know that. So don't tell him. Text, is there
- 40:53Speaker 2: therapy for overly aggressive capitalists? I don't know. I guess
- 41:00Speaker 2: maybe that's a reference to Mr. Meadows or myself.
- 41:03Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I don't know. It is 949. Tell you what we'll do.
- 41:07Speaker 2: We'll take a break and we'll come back after this
- 41:09Speaker 2: on The Voice of Charleston WCHS.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Brought to you by the Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses are small businesses with big impact,

- 42:37Speaker 2: That sounds the name of Steel Band, the official band
- 42:39Speaker 2: of the Dave Allen Show. Check them out. It is 9.50
- 42:42Speaker 2: on a Monday morning. Still efforting, Danny. I'm sure everything's
- 42:45Speaker 2: okay with Danny. Ryan, we may have to put you
- 42:47Speaker 2: in a vehicle and send you out to California to
- 42:50Speaker 2: see Again, I hope everything's okay. It's not like Danny
- 42:54Speaker 2: not to be on the show. I mean, normally... We'll
- 42:57Speaker 2: text a couple times, and I told him last week,
- 43:00Speaker 2: he said, I will be out in California, but call me.
- 43:02Speaker 2: You know I'll be awake. Well, I know for a
- 43:04Speaker 2: fact Danny will be awake. So hopefully everything is okay.
- 43:07Speaker 2: So hopefully if we don't have him this week, we'll
- 43:09Speaker 2: have him back on next week. So the rest of
- 43:11Speaker 2: the show is yours. Guarantee Bank Hotline, 304-345-5858. Tony the Tailor,
- 43:14Speaker 2: text 304-935-5008. We talked on midday about the House Democrats'
- 43:16Speaker 2: kitchen table tour. They kicked this off last week in Fairmont. Now,
- 43:28Speaker 2: the next one is going to be tonight in Charleston
- 43:30Speaker 2: at City Center Slack Plaza, in case you want to
- 43:33Speaker 2: check that out. And I got a text earlier this
- 43:35Speaker 2: morning from Delegate and State Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin
- 43:38Speaker 2: reminding me of that. I said, I got you, Pushkin.
- 43:41Speaker 2: I was going to mention it anyway. Starts at six o'clock. Now,
- 43:44Speaker 2: he's referring to it as a rally. The other one,
- 43:47Speaker 2: I think, was more of a, I mean, you call
- 43:48Speaker 2: it whatever you want, but basically the House Democrats, and
- 43:52Speaker 2: they did this, I think, a couple of times before,
- 43:53Speaker 2: they go around the state and they meet with people
- 43:56Speaker 2: of whether they're Republican, Democrat, whatever the case is, and
- 44:00Speaker 2: just find out what's on people's mind. And it's interesting
- 44:02Speaker 2: to me in talking to the people that took place
- 44:05Speaker 2: or took part, I should say, in these kitchen table
- 44:07Speaker 2: tours in the past when they did them, that there
- 44:10Speaker 2: were some, I think, common denominators in all of them.
- 44:15Speaker 2: But then there were some things that were totally different.
- 44:18Speaker 2: And if you go to one, you know, in the
- 44:20Speaker 2: Eastern Panhandle, what those folks may have said would have
- 44:23Speaker 2: been something like, well, you know, how do we– our
- 44:27Speaker 2: issue has to do with affordability. I'm just using that
- 44:29Speaker 2: as an example. Maybe here in the Charleston area, it's
- 44:32Speaker 2: about data centers. But that's what they're doing. They're just
- 44:35Speaker 2: going out and they're just talking to people and Doesn't
- 44:37Speaker 2: matter whether you're Republican, Democrat, whatever the case is, they're
- 44:40Speaker 2: asking you to come out. So the weather's going to
- 44:41Speaker 2: be great. You want to go meet with them. Six
- 44:43Speaker 2: o'clock tonight at Slack Plaza. There, Pushkin, I got you
- 44:46Speaker 2: taken care of. Guaranteed Bank Hotline 304-345-5858. Tony B. Taylor,
- 44:51Speaker 2: Tax 304-935-500. I don't know if you saw this or not.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I think the Talk Line boys are going to get
- 44:57Speaker 2: into this a little bit. This blow up over the
- 45:01Speaker 2: Trump commercials. that aired during college and NFL football over
- 45:06Speaker 2: the weekend. I saw them a couple times, and I
- 45:11Speaker 2: thought it was a little odd. And basically, what they
- 45:15Speaker 2: did was they took a President Trump campaign ad from
- 45:20Speaker 2: a couple of years ago, and they're running these almost,
- 45:26Speaker 2: and I don't want to put words in the president
- 45:27Speaker 2: of the administration's mouth, but almost running them as public
- 45:32Speaker 2: service announcements, saying, you know, all about patriotism, which is
- 45:38Speaker 2: all great and, you know, things of that nature. However,
- 45:41Speaker 2: in the world of politics, if it is a campaign ad,
- 45:45Speaker 2: there has to be certain things in it. Now, it said,
- 45:47Speaker 2: the one I saw, I think it said something to
- 45:49Speaker 2: the effect of paid for by the U.S. government or
- 45:52Speaker 2: something like that. It appeared to me to be a
- 45:54Speaker 2: little bit more of a campaign ad. I mean, I
- 45:57Speaker 2: don't know if you saw them. If you saw it
- 45:59Speaker 2: as that, I... I got a little bit of a
- 46:01Speaker 2: problem with it. And no, don't hit me with the
- 46:03Speaker 2: Trump derangement syndrome. It's not that. I don't care who
- 46:05Speaker 2: did it. I just it just seems to me a
- 46:07Speaker 2: little to be a little bit disingenuous to me. And
- 46:11Speaker 2: the battle between the Trump administration and the press continues.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Of course, the judges come out, put a restraining order
- 46:17Speaker 2: now on the the idea that the president banned Politico,
- 46:23Speaker 2: MS Now and CNN from their press conferences. And there
- 46:26Speaker 2: was the incident on Air Force One. last week that
- 46:30Speaker 2: cnn wasn't allowed to be a part of and the
- 46:32Speaker 2: way it works it's called pooling because of space constraints
- 46:38Speaker 2: they can't have every network on there so basically what
- 46:40Speaker 2: will happen is it could be cnn one week and
- 46:42Speaker 2: then what cnn does they take the feed and they
- 46:45Speaker 2: send it to fox news and they there's just one
- 46:47Speaker 2: it happens locally sometimes as well with our local tv
- 46:50Speaker 2: stations and radio affiliates as well only one entity can
- 46:54Speaker 2: come because there's not enough space and then that entity
- 46:56Speaker 2: will then feed it to the others Well, because Fox
- 47:02Speaker 2: News was– I'm sorry, CNN wasn't there. The other ones
- 47:05Speaker 2: ended up kind of missing out on it because they
- 47:07Speaker 2: were the select pooler, if you will, for that particular day.
- 47:12Speaker 2: So kind of sitting back and watching this whole thing
- 47:14Speaker 2: right now, I did catch the attorney general on This
- 47:19Speaker 2: Week yesterday with Martha Raddatz. And it was interesting, the
- 47:24Speaker 2: conversation that took place because– He keeps saying that this
- 47:28Speaker 2: whole thing with the Trump administration banning those entities, MSNOW, CNBC,
- 47:33Speaker 2: and Politico, is because it is in national interest. It's
- 47:38Speaker 2: a security risk. But in what the president said on
- 47:44Speaker 2: his truth social and other places, I don't think he
- 47:46Speaker 2: ever mentioned the word national security. He just talked about
- 47:49Speaker 2: it being unfavorable press toward him, which, look, I mean, again,
- 47:55Speaker 2: I'm a First Amendment absolutist, okay, 100%, whether I agree, disagree, whatever.
- 48:01Speaker 2: But it's not the job of the press to make
- 48:04Speaker 2: a president look good or to look bad. It's just
- 48:07Speaker 2: to report. And there's going to be a certain slant.
- 48:11Speaker 2: I mean, I 100% get that. But I don't think
- 48:15Speaker 2: this is going to end well for the president. I
- 48:18Speaker 2: really don't. And a lot of the polling has kind
- 48:22Speaker 2: of gone along those lines as well. And speaking of polling,
- 48:25Speaker 2: keeping a close eye on the midterms now as October
- 48:27Speaker 2: kicks in here in a couple days, the president, of course,
- 48:34Speaker 2: has been out and he was at a ball game
- 48:36Speaker 2: over the weekend and he was at the Tennessee game,
- 48:39Speaker 2: Tennessee-Texas game. In my opinion, they're intentionally keeping him away
- 48:46Speaker 2: from areas where That could be a swing state in
- 48:50Speaker 2: the midterms either way, because quite frankly, a lot of
- 48:53Speaker 2: those candidates do not want him involved. And there was
- 48:59Speaker 2: there's been some and I watched some of the news
- 49:01Speaker 2: shows over the weekend, some very interesting conversations back and
- 49:04Speaker 2: forth about this. But bottom line is people like Mike Rogers,
- 49:07Speaker 2: I know Danny's a big fan of they don't want
- 49:09Speaker 2: the president involved at all because he is a incredible
- 49:13Speaker 2: outside West Virginia caveat outside West Virginia. He is incredibly
- 49:17Speaker 2: unpopular on everything, and especially with independents. That's where he's losing.
- 49:23Speaker 2: He's losing some ground with Republicans, not as, not that,
- 49:28Speaker 2: you know, he's never popular with Democrats, but he's lost
- 49:30Speaker 2: some ground with Republicans. But where the president is really
- 49:33Speaker 2: struggling right now is with independents, and those independents are
- 49:38Speaker 2: or what he needs, or what those candidates, not he needs,
- 49:41Speaker 2: what those candidates need. The Dave Allen Show and 580

- 50:37Speaker 2: with so many activist judges now in place appointed by anti-constitutionalists,
- 50:41Speaker 2: Obama and Biden are basically DEI appointments. How many of
- 50:46Speaker 2: them actually have relevance and true standing when they believe,
- 50:51Speaker 2: can they legislate from the bench? Look who's here, ladies

- 51:10Speaker 5: I hit a couple of different times, golfed a bit.
- 51:12Speaker 5: It was great to be out. This is the time
- 51:15Speaker 5: of year that a lot of golfers like myself really
- 51:18Speaker 5: like because it's good weather. It's warm enough, obviously. It's fall.
- 51:22Speaker 5: You're not sweating so much. It's a great time to

- 51:37Speaker 5: What's it mean? What are we really doing? We'll get
- 51:39Speaker 5: into that. Jail bills in West Virginia. Ben Salengo joins

- 51:49Speaker 5: have a national declaration of war. He says we need one,
- 51:52Speaker 5: that and much more. Maybe even get into this thing
- 51:55Speaker 5: about the gift shop that I've stirred up. We'll see.
