- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 95, can you believe it? We're almost at a hundred. Lucas: I know, it's amazing. And today we're going to talk about weather again, but a specific kind. We've done wind and rain, and hot and cold, but what about when the sky is full of clouds? Luna: Oh, cloudy days. I love those. They're cozy. How do you say 'it's cloudy' in Amharic? Lucas: Great question. So the word for cloud is ደመና. And to say 'it's cloudy', you say ደመናማ ነው. Listen again: ደመናማ ነው. Luna: ደመናማ ነው. ደመናማ ነው. That's a mouthful! Let me try: ደመናማ ነው. Lucas: Perfect. You got it. Now, what about fog? Fog is a bit different. In Amharic, fog is ጭጋግ. And 'it's foggy' is ጭጋጋማ ነው. Say it with me: ጭጋጋማ ነው. Luna: ጭጋጋማ ነው. That one's a little trickier. ጭጋጋማ ነው. Did I get it? Lucas: Almost. The 'ጭ' sound is a bit harder. Try saying it like 'ch' in 'church' but with more force from the back of the throat. ጭጋጋማ ነው. Luna: ጭጋጋማ ነው. ጭጋጋማ ነው. That feels better. So we have ደመናማ ነው for cloudy and ጭጋጋማ ነው for foggy. What about asking 'how is the weather?' I think we learned that before. Lucas: Right, that's አየሩ እንዴት ነው? Let's put it together. So if someone asks you አየሩ እንዴት ነው? you can answer ደመናማ ነው or ጭጋጋማ ነው. Let's practice a short dialogue. Luna, you ask me. Luna: Okay. አየሩ እንዴት ነው? Lucas: ደመናማ ነው ዛሬ. That means 'it's cloudy today'. Your turn. Luna: አየሩ እንዴት ነው? ደመናማ ነው ዛሬ. Good. Now what if it's foggy in the morning? Lucas: Then you say ጭጋጋማ ነው ጠዋት. ጠዋት means morning. So ጭጋጋማ ነው ጠዋት. Luna: ጭጋጋማ ነው ጠዋት. That's useful. I can imagine saying that when I look out the window in the morning. Lucas: Exactly. And you know, since we're talking about weather and making progress with Amharic, I want to mention something.
