- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter five the Book of Religion, by renouncing fruit of
- 0:04Speaker 1: works Arju. Now, yet Krishna, at the one time thou
- 0:10Speaker 1: dost Lord, surcease of works, and at another time service
- 0:15Speaker 1: through work. Of these twain plainly tell which is the
- 0:20Speaker 1: better way, Krishna. To cease from works is well, and
- 0:26Speaker 1: to do works in holiness is well, and both conduct
- 0:30Speaker 1: to bliss supreme. But of these twain, the better way
- 0:34Speaker 1: is his, who working piously refraineth not. That is the
- 0:39Speaker 1: true renouncer, firm and fixed, who seeking nought rejecteth nought,
- 0:46Speaker 1: dwells proof against the opposites, that is joy and sorrow,
- 0:51Speaker 1: success and failure, heat and cold, etc. Oh, valiant Prince,
- 0:57Speaker 1: in doing such breaks lightly from all deed. Tis the
- 1:03Speaker 1: new scholar talks as they were two, this Sankia and
- 1:07Speaker 1: this yoga. Wise men know who husband's one plucks golden
- 1:13Speaker 1: fruit of both the region of high rest which Sanchian's
- 1:18Speaker 1: reach yogins attain. Who sees these twain as one sees
- 1:23Speaker 1: with clear eyes. Yet such abstraction chief is hard to
- 1:28Speaker 1: win without much holiness. Who is fixed in holiness, self ruled,
- 1:34Speaker 1: pure hearted, lord of senses and of self lost in
- 1:39Speaker 1: the common life of all which lives a yoga yucht.
- 1:44Speaker 1: He is a saint who wends straightway to Brahm. Such
- 1:48Speaker 1: an one is not touched by taint of deeds, nought
- 1:53Speaker 1: of myself. I do. Thus will he think who holds
- 1:57Speaker 1: the truth of truths in beeing, hearing, touching, smelling, when
- 2:03Speaker 1: he eats or goes, or breathes, slumbers or talks, holds
- 2:08Speaker 1: fast or loosens, opens his eyes or shuts, always assured.
- 2:15Speaker 1: This is the sense world plays with senses. He that
- 2:20Speaker 1: acts in thought of Brahm, detaching end from act with
- 2:25Speaker 1: act content the world of sense can no more stain
- 2:29Speaker 1: his soul than waters mar the enameled lotus leaf with life,
- 2:34Speaker 1: with heart, with mind, nay, with the help of all
- 2:38Speaker 1: five senses. Letting selfhard go Jogan's toil, ever towards their
- 2:44Speaker 1: soul's release. Such votaries renouncing fruit of deeds, gain endless peace.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The unvowed, the passion bound seeking a fruit from works,
- 2:56Speaker 1: are fastened down. The embodied sage with drawn within his
- 3:01Speaker 1: soul at every act sits godlike in the town which
- 3:06Speaker 1: hath nine gateways, I either body, neither doing aught nor
- 3:12Speaker 1: causing any deed. This world's lord makes neither the work,
- 3:18Speaker 1: nor passion for the work, nor lust for fruit of work.
- 3:22Speaker 1: The man's own self pushes to these. The master of
- 3:26Speaker 1: this world takes on himself the good or evil deeds
- 3:30Speaker 1: of no man. Dwelling beyond mankind heirs here by folly
- 3:37Speaker 1: darkening knowledge, but for whom that darkness of the soul
- 3:41Speaker 1: is chased by light, splendid and clear shines manifest the truth,
- 3:47Speaker 1: as if a sun of wisdom sprang to shed its
- 3:50Speaker 1: beams of dawn, Him meditating, still him seeking with him, blended,
- 3:56Speaker 1: stayed on him. The souls illuminated take that road which
- 4:01Speaker 1: hath no turning back, their sins flung off by strength
- 4:05Speaker 1: of faith. Who will may have this light? Who hath it?
- 4:10Speaker 1: Sees to him who wisely sees the Brahman with his
- 4:15Speaker 1: scrolls and sanctities, The cow, the elephant, the unclean dog,
- 4:20Speaker 1: the outcast gorging dog's meat, are all one. The world
- 4:26Speaker 1: is overcome. I even hear by such as fix their
- 4:30Speaker 1: faith on unity. The sinless Brama dwells in unity. And
- 4:35Speaker 1: they in brama be not over glad attaining joy, and
- 4:40Speaker 1: be not oversad encountering grief, but stayed on Brama still constant.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Let each abide. The sage, whose soul holds off from
- 4:51Speaker 1: outer contacts in himself, finds bliss to Brama. Joined by piety,
- 4:58Speaker 1: his spirit takes eternal peace. The joys springing from sense
- 5:04Speaker 1: life are but quickening wombs which breed sure griefs. Those
- 5:09Speaker 1: joys begin and end. The wise mind takes no pleasure
- 5:14Speaker 1: Kunti's son in such as those. But if a man
- 5:18Speaker 1: shall learn, even while he lives and bears his body's chain,
- 5:23Speaker 1: to master lust and anger, he is blessed. He is
- 5:28Speaker 1: the Yuctar. He hath happiness, contentment, light within his life
- 5:34Speaker 1: is merged in Brahma's life. He doth Nirvana touch. Thus
- 5:40Speaker 1: go The rishis unto rest, who dwell with sins, effaced
- 5:45Speaker 1: with doubts, at end, with hearts governed and calm, glad
- 5:51Speaker 1: in all good. They live nigh to the peace of God.
- 5:55Speaker 1: And all those live who pass their days exempt from
- 5:58Speaker 1: greed and wrath, subduing self and senses, knowing the soul.
- 6:04Speaker 1: The saint who shuts outside his placid soul all touch
- 6:08Speaker 1: of sense, letting no contact through, whose quiet eyes gaze
- 6:13Speaker 1: straight from fixed brows, whose outward breath and inward breath
- 6:18Speaker 1: are drawn equal and slow through nostrils, still and close.
- 6:23Speaker 1: That one with organ's heart and mind constrained, bent on deliverance,
- 6:28Speaker 1: having put away passion and fear and rage, hath even
- 6:33Speaker 1: now obtained deliverance, ever and ever freed YEA, for he
- 6:38Speaker 1: knows me. Who am he that heeds the sacrifice and
- 6:43Speaker 1: worship God revealed, And he who heeds not, being Lord
- 6:48Speaker 1: of worlds, lover of all that lives, God unreveal'd. Wherein
- 6:55Speaker 1: who will shall find surety and shield? Here ends Chapter
- 7:01Speaker 1: five of the Bagavad Geeta
