- Lucas: Velkommen til Episode 29 of Learn Danish with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey Lucas, our last episode was all about breakfast – morgenmad. I've been craving smørrebrød ever since! Lucas: Oh, a classic. But today, we're going somewhere else. We're hitting the streets. Luna: Ooh, are we going out? I need to stretch my legs. Lucas: Exactly. Today we're learning how to give and understand directions in Danish. Imagine you're in Copenhagen and you need to find the bakery. Luna: Right, I remember we learned 'til venstre' in an earlier episode? That means 'to the left'? Lucas: Yes! 'Til venstre' means 'to the left'. Let's start with that. Repeat after me: til venstre. Luna: Til venstre. Lucas: Perfect. 'Til' is like 'to', 'venstre' is 'left'. So you can say 'Drej til venstre' – 'turn left'. But for now, just 'til venstre' is fine. Luna: Til venstre. Got it. And what about 'to the right'? Lucas: That's 'til højre'. Say it with me: til højre. Luna: Til højre. That's a bit tricky. Højre sounds like 'hoy-reh'? Lucas: Close! Højre – the 'ø' sound is like in 'søster'. Try again. Luna: Til højre. Lucas: Yes! Much better. And then we have 'lige ud' – 'straight ahead'. Repeat: lige ud. Luna: Lige ud. That's like 'lee-eh ooth'? Lucas: Almost. The 'd' at the end is very soft. Lige ud. Say it with me: lige ud. Luna: Lige ud. Lucas: Yes. So now we have three directions: til venstre, til højre, lige ud. Let's practice a little scene. Luna: Okay, I'm ready. Give me directions. Lucas: Alright. You're at the train station. I say: Gå lige ud. Luna: So I go straight. Lige ud. Lucas: Yes! Then: Drej til venstre ved bageriet. Luna: Turn left at the bakery. Til venstre. Lucas: Perfect. Then: Drej til højre. Luna: Turn right. Til højre. Lucas: Nailed it. Now, one more very useful phrase: 'Undskyld' – which means 'excuse me' or 'sorry'. When you're asking for directions, you start with 'Undskyld'. Luna: Undskyld. That sounds like 'oonskyl'? Lucas: Close. Undskyld. The 'd' is silent. Try: Undskyld. Luna: Undskyld. Lucas: Yes. So you'd say: Undskyld, hvor er bageriet? – Excuse me, where is the bakery? Luna: Undskyld, hvor er bageriet? And then they'd say something like: Gå lige ud, drej til venstre. Lucas: Exactly. Let's put it all together. I'm a stranger on the street. You ask for directions. Luna: Undskyld, hvor er bageriet? Lucas: Gå lige ud, og så drej til venstre. Luna: Lige ud til venstre, okay. Tak! Lucas: Yes! And if you need to go right, they might say: Drej til højre. Luna: I think I have it. Let's do a quick review. Til venstre is left, til højre is right, lige ud is straight, and undskyld is excuse me. Lucas: Perfect summary. Let's do one more round. Repeat after me: til venstre. Luna: Til venstre. Lucas: Til højre. Luna: Til højre. Lucas: Lige ud. Luna: Lige ud. Lucas: Undskyld. Luna: Undskyld. Lucas: Fantastic. Now you can navigate the streets of Denmark. Remember, practice these with a friend or out loud. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas! And thanks to Fexingo for this episode. See you next time! Lucas: Tak for i dag! Vi ses! Practice til venstre, til højre, lige ud, and undskyld. Goodbye!
