- 1:20[SPEAKER_05]: Hello there and welcome to another edition of film and TV review where we'll look at the offerings of the last month for cross-film and TV.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_05]: And to kick off January, we've got quite a lot of releases over the festive period as well.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_05]: Join by a regular host, Richard, James, Andrew and
- 1:49[SPEAKER_05]: Oscar contender, suppose, or favourite for sure, is what was sent to your bathroom.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, it was a hand-it, which is Gingoffa, justly a historical drama about William Shakespeare and his wife, Agnes screening over the 11-year-old son of a plague-filled strafford.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_05]: Starring, Jesse Buckley and Paul Mascow.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_05]: High praise for this indeed, because the board, where when he's seen it,
- 2:16[SPEAKER_05]: I think dating of themes of loss and grieving and, come on, historical concept text, based on a risk for book.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_05]: And I think all of you, I think here has seen it, so who would like to give us their opinion of Richard?
- 2:34[SPEAKER_05]: You saw this, let's start with you.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_05]: Or believe the hype of the word
- 2:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, well, the world of not has been amazing, and also actually I went to see it, because I heard about the, not only the worst campus, but the overall season was, should we say.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: I obviously kind of knew what would be about, but in a way, I really thought actually, but it was at first, I thought it was a fiction inspired by Amelette.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_03]: And after five years I understand actually that it was kind of the point of view of Shakespeare's lover wife, etc.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_03]: and more of a life and anything else.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_03]: And it's an interesting movie.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_03]: Do you want me to go through the quickly, the synopsis?
- 3:26[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, just a little bit of it.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, well, it's interesting because the movie, I think, but actually Shakespeare's name is never mentioned in the movie, Phantomist Taken, which is kind of funny.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_03]: I try actually to notice that I think it never mentioned the word, though it's just story of a guy in the countryside in Great Britain, who actually is a teacher of some children and falls in love with a girl who,
- 3:57[SPEAKER_03]: according to a girl from the forest or whatever, and that's kind of it, and at first, and the thing is that they fall in love with each other, they stand to have family, and he has aspirations, he wants to actually go to the big city of London to try to write plays and things like that.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_03]: So, and that's kind of it, I would have say more.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, it's funny actually
- 4:27[SPEAKER_03]: In a way, it's a fiction about Shakespeare.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_03]: And maybe think about Shakespeare in love, but it's definitely different, but it's been in love for 20 years ago, so, 25 years ago, but in a very much better way.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: And the strength of the movie are definitely the performances of specially the main actress, the G.C.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_03]: Berkeley, but also someone who actually was a big fan of in the past, Paul Mascado.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_03]: I'm saying I was being a fan, because the only movie that I saw in before was in Gladietto 2.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_03]: And that was a terrible movie, so.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_03]: But to be fair is definitely better in this one.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_03]: Surprising these, let's be nominated at the Oscars.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_03]: No idea why.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_03]: But you know, there are some powerful scenes, extremely powerful scenes, especially, especially, but as 15-20 minutes, but there is also seen at the middle of the movie.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_03]: That's quite extraordinary.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_03]: I think there was a huge silence in the movie theater, but there's a very good sign.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_03]: Everybody was shocked to be on this couple of times in the movie theater, but when I was watching it.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_03]: And you also see the
- 5:42[SPEAKER_03]: the blueprint in a way of, uh, of, uh, Chloe's now directing in this movie.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_03]: Uh, it's definitely not, uh, very great pacing, but at least it takes time all the time, actually, to, uh, not if the characters, but also I'd feed to, uh, have really nice, uh, shots of, uh, I'm all about, say something stupid, uh, but we shot of the native, of nature,
- 6:10[SPEAKER_03]: He's part, taking the time of, before going back actually to more drama, so to his out, who is actually perhaps going to be actually, again, regardless, because she won't also for nomad land, and she was directing my favorite MC movie.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, no, it's not a perfect movie because I believe, but I believe, but actually, but it would be better for me enough as a play and not as a movie itself, perhaps it's a big too long, but the performance is in the direction and definitely make it, yes, one of the best movies I've seen so far this year, but it only February, so.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_05]: James, you share those, please.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I really like the film.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if it workers a play actually because I think a play about a play at the end.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I know it's good to be here.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_03]: And the music on that theme.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, because it goes very something.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_03]: Go ahead.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, I really like it.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think the cinematography is absolutely fantastic all the way through it.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: So when you've got those shots of the forest and things, it just looks beautiful.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: And actually that the pacing's very slow, but I think it's a good pacing if you know what I mean.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of just like that it's a kind of a slow burn film.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, the start it seems to be like a love story in between this, this couple that meet in,
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: Agnes Hathaway, as she's called apparently in the book and the film because her real name was Anne, and they wanted to minimize the confusion with the real life actress Anne Hathaway.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_02]: So she's called Agnes here.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just e-buckly absolutely terrific in this role.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, what you...
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: When you get this sort of stuff with Hamlet and he's kind of the stuff that comes around him.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure whether we're allowed to spoil it or not because it's a trailer and it's historically known.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: But there's kind of an element I think in a film where the love story is obviously tainted by what they go through what happens to their children and there's
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: the sort of these key scenes, I think, where Jesse Buckley said, but you don't seem to be grieving.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: And the way that he grieves is to put his grief into the play.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_02]: And this is kind of a fact in the sense of fan fiction, but there could be truth in it.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: And it does sort of ring emotionally true that he would maybe put that stuff into it.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_02]: There's that there's theories as to how
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: how direct that influences and things.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: But the final scene, I think, I mean, it really got me and it either gets you or it doesn't.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: I know some people have been taken about the piece of music, so the piece of music is apparently overused in a lot of stuff.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know it, so it didn't really start.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, Max Richter from, who did the leftovers of him as well.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: Very good, and there's a big list of stuff.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's been used in East Enders over here,
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: but for me it was just more that it kind of got me and it's very difficult to talk about it without ruin in the end, but I think it is about how writers kind of put their emotions into that and let other people uncover them.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah I thought it was phenomenal that the the child actor I think is Noah Joke and and actually his brother then plays Hamlet in the play
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: at the end in the Shakespeare Globe.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: So that's his real-life brother playing him in there.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I thought it was really good.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: I think Jesse Buckley, looking at the contenders of who's been nominated for Leading Actress, I think if there's only just that she will walk that, she will be the winner of that.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_02]: I've got to say I don't think it is all my skills best performance.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's better than gladiator too.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: I would say try and maybe don't you combine gladiator too.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_02]: Or anybody, really Scott, anybody.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: Ben's a Washington, you know.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean he's fantastic enough to sound, which is probably still his best role, I think, but he's done some really great stuff.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: been here.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've been reluctant to go and rewatch it.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: So I do go and rewatch a lot of stuff, but I kind of feel like if it doesn't hit me emotionally this second time, I might retroactively not enjoy it.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_02]: I might sort of mark it down.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: God, it wasn't as good as I remember, but maybe I'll get around to rewatch.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_05]: Only Andrew, what did you think?
- 10:34[SPEAKER_05]: Didn't really get that many Oscar nominations and more kind of a split between British where we're focusing our wards and where the Americans are with the Oscars, but how did you find it?
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my, yes, I really liked it.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: I actually thought it was one of the, what sort of one of the better films this year and maybe possibly the best.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know a lot of people are picking
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the focus on one battle after another and, you know, understandable given what that film's about and what things are going on in real life.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: But I guess this movie, um, amnit really was times that the emotional, like as hard strings as you would say, uh, this about grief and loss and performances and the film, not just from Jesse Buckley, but everyone else and just,
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: being really best in the story, uh, the soul bit of other information and based on the novel.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: So novel because not everything in the film is quite accurate historically, uh, because people don't necessarily know about magnets she's called in the film and that's why they don't know as much about her life.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of speculation just with regards to things in the film.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, things could have happened a certain way, but they don't know that for sure.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: So for historical purposes, it's not all accurate.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why they say it's a novel and this movie is based on that novel.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's supposed to have a nonfiction book.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, as far as everyone else in the film, you mentioned Paul Mascal, he's done the log, great stuff.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: He was actually nominated for Afterson, kind of interesting, he was nominated for that and wasn't nominated for this, but yeah, that's all other thing.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: And Joe Allen is playing the brother of Jesse Buckley's character.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: and also Emily Watson playing the matriarch of the Shakespeare family.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: So a pretty good cast route, and yeah, as I said, I really liked it.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: And you'll see how it does, you know, with the upcoming awards.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, sure.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_05]: And uh, uh, our fans are used to, uh, have me as well.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_04]: Did you, uh, is it worth the praise or, what does this mixed, uh, well, um, I mean, expect expectations are maybe sometimes work against the picture.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_04]: And in this case, my expectations were, uh, or, or, or, or high of what I was gonna encounter.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_04]: And maybe I was,
- 13:06[SPEAKER_04]: a little bit disappointed not too much, but I guess this seems like, this seems like let's say no scar from Brunner along with one battle after another, for example, and eat
- 13:30[SPEAKER_04]: and I thought that the actors were really good and it was, yeah, well, it was sort of a catharsis also, it kind of worked as a catharsis of like, you know, it's a sad story and it's like a little bit met up because it talks about a sort of catharsis and the movie itself is also a catharsis for the
- 13:58[SPEAKER_04]: at the, at the end.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_04]: So, um, I mean, it's a, it's a good, it's a very good film, but maybe my, I was expecting quite a lot, I don't know, like a mixed back, I guess.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, I will see when there was so many, where it goes and where it lands.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_05]: Right, next.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_05]: a part I guess a franchise I suppose now it's of the 28 years later the bone temple the I guess a very long running franchise that's the bones of the post-opeletic horror sequel
- 14:33[SPEAKER_05]: following the survivors of a zombie apocalypse, which is obviously was the flavor of a few, the last few years anyway.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_05]: Here it's a difficult one to kind of reinvent, but it's the guy who
- 14:49[SPEAKER_05]: start to do it all.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_05]: So Danny Boyle, you know, all that for those years ago.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_05]: So um, it was interesting to see what fresh meat could be baked from the bones of this venture.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_05]: Um, we kind of followed a statistic cult revolving uh, I suppose, an alpha male and uh, a kind of like, it's saying a small isolated little village and then
- 15:12[SPEAKER_05]: you meet a few characters on the way, a good car scenario, Ralph finds his in this as a kind of a strange character as well.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_05]: I was not fan of big zombie thing, but I did give this a viewing and I've seen so far I've seen most of it and it is very well put together very well directed.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_05]: James, you are a quite fan of this genre, and this film, I kind of liked it so far, but how do you find this entry?
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I'm not the biggest zombie fan.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sort of as big a fan as anybody else, really.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, enjoy the walking dead.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of respect for dawn on the dead and Shaun on the dead.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_02]: Really liked 28 days later, which is, obviously,
- 15:57[SPEAKER_02]: You know, many years ago, now was all sort of film, one of the first films shot on digital shots sort of very gorilla style in the middle of London to get all those shots in the early hours of the day.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: There was a sequel 28 weeks later, which you can kind of forget about that one.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_02]: And then last year we had 28 years later from Danny Boyle, all the scripts by Alex Garland of Civil War and X-Mac and all that kind of stuff.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: And the first film was sort of about family and about death, I think, which sounds like it's a zombie film, so obviously it would be, but it's maybe about that first one's maybe about death in a way that you wouldn't expect.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: And they say this one's about evil, which is,
- 16:40[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll sort of sell the plot without ruining anything that you, it's difficult at this point to not give away the end of 28 years later, but I can sort of not talk about some of the detail of it.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a young kid called Spike, his parents aren't around for reasons that might not be what you would expect from the first film, go and watch that one.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_02]: and now he's into this sort of game and they are not nice people to be honest this is one of those films where the zombies are horrible but the people some of the people involved are even worse and this one is rated 18 for sort of more sadistic person on person violence rather than zombie
- 17:26[SPEAKER_02]: which is sort of contained in about 15 in the UK.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_02]: So, you have sort of two stories running parallel, which is spiked in part of this gang with Jack O'Connell's Jimmy Christols, a large immigrant.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: And in the meantime, you also have Dr. Ian Kelsen, played by Ralph Fines, really and played by Ralph Fines.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_02]: from the previous movie who is continuing his work of just sort of basically he's disposing of the dead in like a clean way to minimize infection and things like that.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_02]: But there's also a point in the previous film where he's debating some of the zombies rather than killing them.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a story in this involving the alpha zombie called Samson, who is actually terrifying, rips people's heads clean from their bodies with spines still
- 18:17[SPEAKER_02]: And it sounds ridiculous, but this film kind of looks at an unlikely bromance between Ian Kelsey's character and Samson.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_02]: But what I think is really clever is where is that might sound like, oh, it might sound a bit naff.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: They do a really good job of alternative the light and shade in this film.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a very key moment involving Samson.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: which is bookended by two of the worst bits of violence in the film, most horrific bits of violence.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_02]: Jack O'Connell's gang give chat what they call charity to people that they pray upon and steal their riches basically and they indeed their lives.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: Um, that, um, near the cost of just taking over direction duties here, the needle drops in it.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, if you haven't got to the ends,
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: Jason, you're missing so much, but the needle drops in here are perfect.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: There's like five really or six, actually, because I don't want to spoil, but there's kind of six, I suppose.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_02]: But the use of a dry and dry and song very early on is absolutely brilliant.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: Again, at the point that it might sound NAF, they do something with the sound where they make it, they kind of twist the sound and it sounds really eerie and it's like the perfect choice really does this line that it that records about that there's nothing wrong with respite nothing wrong with peace of respite and I think it's it's so good this movie
- 19:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's like I was really, I kind of thought, it's a lot less experimental than Danny Boyle style.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: But actually, near the cost of style, probably suits the story more.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_02]: So, and it's definitely scarier there's moments that really may be jumped the first time the sound find is amazing.
- 19:50[SPEAKER_02]: Well, finds Jack O'Connell amazing, but so is Erin Kellyman who plays Jimmy Inc. one of the gang members, and Sheila is Perry who plays Sam's.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's kind of my favorite film with you at the moment, but like you say we're only in February, but and and it ends with One of the things about 28 years later is nobody understood the end did so everyone said why why does that happen at the end?
- 20:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it happened because it's setting up this film and now actually I've seen I've spoken to a lot of people It said okay, that's fine.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't realize there was another film and it makes sense now clearly at the end of this film You know what's gonna the final scene is kind of this will be what happens in part three and part three's been
- 20:31[SPEAKER_02]: Being late now, even though the box office hasn't been fantastic, obviously it's a bit more of a restrictive certificate in the UK, it's 18, but apparently that they're due to film that in the summer because obviously they need to film these, when there's a lot of daylight to get the early morning trucks and things, but yeah, I really like it.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: And I think, I'll just say as well, although they are zombie films, they're kind of story set in a zombie world.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_02]: So in a sense, there's definitely enough zombie action for.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_02]: for everyone.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_02]: But I feel like there's something else going on in these films.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: So they're kind of about people trying to live whilst that's going on outside.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: There may be the best on-be stuff that's what it is.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, walking dead, like that, and all of the dead's like that a little bit.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, I think this is really like a really good story that's set in the backdrop of, as on the apocalypse.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_02]: And it's sort of like nothing else you've ever seen before.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: And also, there is something with a violence that maybe you don't see as much as you think.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's sort of the idea of what's happening is worse than what you see.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you do seem the aftermath of a lot of stuff in this.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_02]: But I think it's a bit like with the human centipede, right?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: If you ever, if you know what that film is about, you get it's the point when you realise what it's about, you've got, oh my god, that's disgusting.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_02]: But as you in the film, everything is kind of quite restrained in what it shows you.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's leaving more to the imagination than maybe you think.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_02]: But there's still really, there's still really tough sort of torture scenes and things
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think it's great.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's a good mix of horror and beauty.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's such a nice shot.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_05]: Um, uh, our funds are you saw this, uh, it's, yeah, it's, I was quite pleased with that.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_05]: I was so far worth thinking, but you, you've been a fan of this franchise for a while.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_04]: I'd like to thank the previous one very much.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_04]: I very much enjoyed 28 years later.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_04]: This one I liked it less because it kind of changes a little bit the story and to focus more on
- 22:31[SPEAKER_04]: like, well, what Rip basically, what James said, it's, I felt it more like a site quest, in a sense of how this, I thought the story was going to go and what the, the relevance
- 22:58[SPEAKER_04]: So, not really given the focus here, and yes, what James said that the focus was really on this kind of like blonde.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_04]: group, kind of a clock work orage kind of gang.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_04]: So I really thought it was going to be more a little bit more like the previous one with the more light of the infected being like chasing people and all these things and then you have the story line of Samsung being domesticated or something
- 23:41[SPEAKER_04]: the real danger here.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_04]: So, I mean, not what I was expecting, and I, and not what I wanted, baby, I mean, baby, you know, but like, not who I really wanted from this franchise.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_04]: I think in the third one of this trilogy, they will come back to the impact it.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_04]: probably.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_04]: And this will be a movie that you can enjoy it or not, but it's not so important for the whole trilogy, maybe.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe more for the evolution of the of Spike, the protagonist, but yeah, anyway.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, I'm not answering you somewhere in the middle.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_05]: I mean,
- 24:22[SPEAKER_05]: both sides.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, I mean, I would say I like to do the better than the previous film because Tony was more consistent.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you've just filmed had some good moments and then some moments that we're just sort of like.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: what's going on here and then you get to the ending of the previous film and it feels like some other film all together and here is more consistent and at the end of the previous film soul bit can't be and these characters come across as a really can't be and here you see them more as the threat that you would imagine them to be especially given with their dress up as and you know that note it's a combination of
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, anyway, they dressed up as Jimmy Savel, but also as the teletubbies because I guess the person who leads them was a fan of the teletubbies before things went down.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, you see them as a threat to this film.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: The acting you guys mentioned was good.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: Also, I like to mention Chai Lewis Perry, I guess that's how he pronounce his name, the one who plays Samson, you actually see him act a little bit here too, not just as, okay, the brood, you know, the alpha, whatever.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: He still does that, but also he does show some acting chops here as well, because of reasons that you find out about in the film, and he talked about the music, there's a lot of 80s music in the film, there's songs from
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: another song by another group that appears during the climax, and advertised a lot of the posters, but I won't say much more about that here.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then, yeah, just to also clarify, just as not quite a zombie apocalypse, because it's only
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: the island of Great Britain that's affected.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: I say Great Britain and not the UK because it's never mentioned Northern Ireland, but that's probably for someone else to address.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like a ring that up myself anymore.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_04]: So people are not living the UK in this franchise.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_04]: They are so they really like where they live.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's quarantined.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's quarantined.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_04]: They cannot live.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: I can't leave that specific island, so in northern islands on a different island, so.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, on there's a character from Sweden, and then there's something that happens here in this area.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: So you kind of like it brings up other issues, but but yeah, it's basically just this one island that's quarantined the rest of the world.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: More or less is okay.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm not going to go into all the details of the previous films and all the issues that we're bringing up But I'll just say that I generally like this film.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: Again, I thought it was better than the previous film Totally consistent and just well done and hopefully the director near the Costa, you know, hopefully She'll you know, people kind of are hard on her because of what was it the marbles and how they did
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: And also as far as the Walking Dead, I don't know if you're comparing the Walking Dead because of the whole working-up and hospital thing, but that actually started decades earlier or something called day of the trip.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_03]: So, it is not, I mentioned that because I believe, I think I mentioned that already when the previous movie was released.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think at the first movie from the early 2000s, which
- 27:47[SPEAKER_03]: very good, et cetera, a way might actually have started with these new generations, started a new revival of zombie movies in a way, or with the Zack Snyder movie, et cetera.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_03]: Because I'm just saying, I think it's a good, very well-ready movies and movies about zombies.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_03]: My point is that this is not a problem.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_03]: It's not because of this franchise, because of that
- 28:09[SPEAKER_03]: something that we discussed before is the advantages of a TV show and the fact that walking data at 11 years and 200 episodes or whatever factory to deal with zombies and league ends finding out that the monsters in a zombie world is actually the human beings and you have to deal with how people behave to each other in a consecutive
- 28:35[SPEAKER_03]: post-apocalyptic, sorry, world, et cetera.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_03]: All these themes and topics et cetera have been dealt with in working dead through seasons after seasons in the last year, oh, in the last 15 years or so.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_03]: Sometimes good way, bad way, it can be debated, but in my opinion, yeah, there's nothing new but this franchise is bringing.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_03]: I haven't seen one tempo to be fair, it's true.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_03]: But even the previous movie, I was thinking, what does it bring to the table, this movie, and I didn't see anything, but it was bringing.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's right.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think I think, in regards to more of the...
- 29:10[SPEAKER_03]: the debates that it talks about living in this kind of world and how religiously between humans are.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_03]: We're talking about it.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's a very few among you spinners.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_04]: A few among you spinners.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: Do you know what I mean?
- 29:26[SPEAKER_02]: I think for this film, it obviously doesn't appeal to people internationally, but I think for UK audience, there's definitely, there are things that is talking about that
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the first film, particularly, is talking about the death of culture and the rise of kind of the way.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a particular line at the end that gets a bit of a laugh in the cinema.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_02]: I won't ruin it because Jason's here, but there is a line about fascism at the end and how sort of remembering the first world war is so that things don't
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: don't return and we never repeat those mistakes and it's funny that I've seen it a few times and everybody laughs at that line because it's like in this world there are a member in that in our world that seems to have been forgotten slightly and obviously the stuff about Savile which is kind of I mean his name is never mentioned in the film actually.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_02]: but very clearly from that look, like anybody watching that in the UK knows what that look is and that kind of thing of false profits and maybe looking up to people and things like that.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of stuff in the first field where there's a sort of a distrust of science as well and there's a sort of that
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: the kind of reaction that Alan Taylor Johnson's character has to be in Kelsen and that he's very suspicious of him.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't understand why he's burning these bodies.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: He thinks he's a free and it's quite just kind of a lot of stuff like that that's going on in it.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: But I think um yeah, but I mean obviously the Walking Dead plan for years, but it in zombie films aren't new and actually we had a thing suppose.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_03]: Definitely it doesn't seem that the Walking Dead was
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: But obviously, with 200 hours of TV show, you have much more time actually to literally talk and describe what this world and this new society would look like et cetera, but actually a movie but has only two hours to do it.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, this topic that you mentioned now and the photography staff seen in the previous movie, all these things that have seen it in the working dead and they were doing very well with great acting and great writing.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_03]: And so I'm saying, what can I expect more in the movie about that kind of thing about the zombie world nowadays?
- 31:41[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think that will expect, I will see more, but I mean, yeah, I'm wrong, but I don't know.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think what makes this unique is the idea that it's only affecting this one island, the rest of the world is continuing as normal.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: So that's kind of an element, and then I may explore that in the next one too, I don't know yet.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I think there's definitely a Brexit analogy to be my diary, isn't it?
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the kind of, yeah, if Europe is doing okay and we kind of isolated, yeah, so that's definitely in there.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, well, from one post-uplicative franchise, or to another case you hadn't had enough, it's out for all of that, these are two air-a-a.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_05]: Well, but maybe, of course, based on the game, but a game is the same kind of like a post-nuclear event as societies have existed underground in votes, and I think we've had the season two.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_05]: We did really quite well, a very good actually run the few good adaptations from a game-a-i-p-i-p-i-p.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_05]: It followed the characters of Lucy and the more two gankslinger at the goal.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_05]: Played by some very good cast, something Ella, Penao.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_05]: Wought in Goggains and Carmichaelaclan and it kind of like moves between their lives before and their lives.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_05]: Now in this strange mixture of sci-fi, western, kind of, new post-operatic landscape.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_05]: Um, I...
- 33:10[SPEAKER_05]: George, he's in one season two.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_05]: I haven't cut the moderation to actually say it, but Andrew, you've seen this.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_05]: So what am I missing out on season two or four lads?
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, just to find out, it gets some summation because, yeah, this is probably a whole franchise.
- 33:27[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, the idea is coming from the games, but it's not a direct adaptation of the games, because it's more like a series of stories of characters who exist within the world.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: that the games exist.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: So it's part of the same franchise, but it's not like, you know, the last of us where, you know, here's the storyline and we're just adapting that for the series.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: So you have a bunch of new characters who were introduced last year and some of them were introduced this year, but they exist in the world, the games.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: And there's very much a sense of people who play the games,
- 34:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's the stop plays or that person so I mean, you don't have to play the games to really watch the show But I haven't feeling that people play the games will get a lot more out of it.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, on that note Just give a brief idea the first season you're introduced to some characters in this post-apocalyptic world There is a character named Lucy McLean
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: And father gets kidnapped by some people, and then she finds out her father wasn't all that she thought he was, and so the story kind of picks up from that.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: There's another character called the, well, he's referred to as the ghoul because he's very ghoulish in his appearance, and he's, that's what they call these post-apocalyptic mutants.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_01]: basically have his character is kind of like a bounty hunter.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: And so he's kind of got his own little agenda going on that defined out about it as a series progresses.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's another character, I'm just going to focus on the three main ones called Maximus and he's part of this group called The Brotherhood.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: and they're trying to bring civilization to this post-apocalyptic wasteland or simply called the wasteland.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: So season two kind of picks up on their stories, but because there's a lot more stories when season two this seems like
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: the pacing is it's not necessarily anything wrong if it is this because you're kind of trying to focus on all these open stories and so you have like this episode here where they focus on these characters, that's how they focus on this group of characters and then it kind of switches and since I get it's not they're trying to build for multi-season art so this season season two is just part of that so you can enjoy it while watching it but
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: You also may feel like, well, maybe I should wait until the show ends and then I'll just watch all the seasons.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think they want to know the showrunners want to go for maybe five seasons.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what they have announced, maybe six, but whatever the ratings are or whatever the metrics are for streaming.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: Now in addition to all the stuff that's going on in the then present of this post-apocalyptic world, you have a lot of flashbacks to what life was like just before things went down and you focus on Godgons's character.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_01]: Before he became this mutant post-apocalyptic, he was an actor, named Cooper Howard,
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: known for doing Westerns, and that's a little bit of re-context.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: This whole thing takes place in this alternate timeline where...
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: things were kind of in a retro futurist that kind of way, so whatever the 1950s, 1950s version was of the future, it was kind of like that before the pop-lips happened, and so there were all these words over resources, and they led to nuclear conflict, so you're led to believe.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and so you find out certain things about, you know, who's kind of running things, sort of like you see in another video games, like there's like this evil corporation,
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there's maybe this other evil, you know, all these corporations and
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: you know, who's kind of really running things and the side to have a conspiracy.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: So, just focusing on this particular season, it was pretty good, but I do kind of feel like you, maybe you should look at it as part of like a part of a whole rather than the entirety like, you know, some shows, it's like, you know, this is this season, this is what happens here, and then you move to the next season, this is what happens here, and here it's like one part of a larger story arc, as I said.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_01]: And also on the show as a key factor as Kyle McLaughlin's character, he plays the father of Lucie, she's played by El Penel, so, and then also on the show you have Max and Lucie play by Aaron Moton.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's a lot that was made the season of McPully.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_01]: Vulcan's during the cast.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't appear that much, but you kind of get a sense of, he's going to be a more important down the line, so to speak.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, but I do remember there was like a whole lot about him during the cast.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, oh, okay.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then there's also a Justin Thro.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: He plays a canon character.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: from the games.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: So, he's pretty good when you do see him.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: So, yeah, it's good by itself, but I think it's maybe better to just kind of see it as part of have along the season arcs or how many seasons they do.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: So, that's just my impression.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, I think you'll
- 39:02[SPEAKER_05]: Because season one, every everyone was, it was just very watchable.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_05]: And I almost had this semi-conclusion, but then here it seems.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_05]: What more have we got to tell about?
- 39:10[SPEAKER_05]: It seems, it is a whole vast world to exploring there.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_05]: So maybe a bit later to put up in on it and binge later on.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_05]: But production values are everything.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_05]: It's all great then actually, I mean, it's, I can't say it's a bad series, right, next.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_05]: I think I first of all, one of the A sporting biomek, especially in the UK, it's giant.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_05]: This is kind of telling the story of our Prince Nazine.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_05]: I think a boxing, by the way, based in Sheffield is starting to underdog, but then I think rise to basically a world title superstar, starring a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, and a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a male, a
- 39:57[SPEAKER_05]: It's a formative part of his career.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_05]: It was quite supportive.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_05]: Look quite intriguing and quite a character back in the day of the UK.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_05]: James, you did see this.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_05]: Interesting, a lot of stuff to delve into today.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_05]: Is it a good biopic?
- 40:12[SPEAKER_05]: It's interesting to have a story, surely.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_05]: You want mute, of course.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: Apologies.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like you said, Princeton is the same massive personality in the UK, in terms of his personality.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: Not massive in his physicality, and that was one of the unique things about him, really, that he was quite a small guy.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_02]: But he was sort of put his body weight behind a punch like an uppercut, and he was sort of bouncing around the ring and sort of torn his opponents.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: And there was definitely a showman ship coming into boxing, and it's also...
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: like mid-90s was the start of like paper view in the UK, because that was the thing in the U.S. for a while, but it's sort of come to the Tyson Bruno fight, it was all rematch, it was one of the first ones to those.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_02]: But actually this is more a biopic about Brendan Ingol, who was his trainer, and I think it is actually based on a book that was written about Brendan Ingol, who passed away a couple of years ago.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously, if you got Pierce Brosnan in the film, he's going to take up a lot of the
- 41:13[SPEAKER_02]: the screen time.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_02]: It probably gets more screen time than printed the same.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's perfectly functional biopic and that sounds like damning with faint praise, but I mean it's enjoyable, but it's not.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't say it's remarkable or anything.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think again, if you're in the UK, there's little things that you will admire about the detail of
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: the 90s, whether it's sweet wrappers or TV shows that are on or cars or things, it's very, it's got a lot of sort of a very specific nostalgia for the mid 90s if you kind of remember that and the detail of it.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really like the ending.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: the way that they do the ended and obviously I'm not going to ruin what that is, but I thought was a really unique way of kind of showing where these characters a life sort of finally intercepted, it would didn't intersect.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: As they kind of start to fall out over the years.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_02]: So by an angle trained, Prince the scene from a very young age, but as he got older and more to start he questioned more where the Brendan had his interests at heart, or if he was a
- 42:17[SPEAKER_02]: sort of just there for as a financial gain for him and things like that.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_02]: So the film looks at that stuff, but yeah, it's perfectly fine.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: And so what's this alone is build as an executive producer on this.
- 42:29[SPEAKER_02]: And it just feels like they've sort of gone to him and said, can you put your name on this because you did rocky, you know, it doesn't look because, and I mean, the fight scenes in it, and nothing remarkable, they're not like the sort of one shot that you get
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: It is perfectly worth all.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, um, it, uh, or connects.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_05]: Another comes supporting, moving by a big almost, but is, uh, he's, uh, Marty Supreme.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_05]: Um, it is, uh, basically with, uh, we see it's got 1950s, uh, sports.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_05]: I guess, Dramedy, he's from our
- 43:14[SPEAKER_05]: to my family as a title roll.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_05]: Come on, it's so interesting comments on that and some love it, but you were...
- 43:25[SPEAKER_05]: You saw this, this was a, well, I guess James, you saw this as well.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, is this a better one as in a, I was sporting, oh yeah, oh, but is it better than giant?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, 100% why did we do giant first?
- 43:39[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's, it's funny because yeah, it's a, it's a, it's a massive loads of stuff.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, just saying it's a drama.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's fine.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: But I never thought of it as a drama.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's bits in it that made me laugh.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: Is it a desert, a Zion, who plays his sort of girlfriend in this?
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's absolutely phenomenal in this movie.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: She's so good.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it is set in the 1950s.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's, it's, it's, it's all in the fictional character that is loosely based on somebody else, I believe.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and quite a growth powertro's great in this.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I like how it's set in the, the 50s, but there is 80s music in it.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not just on a child of the 80s, and I like 80s music.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: There's sort of,
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: a lot of use of tears for fears and stuff, and it just works in the context of the film.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say there's like every half an hour, every 20 minutes, half an hour, there's like a WTF moment.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: And so there's a moment involving a barf, and there's a moment involving a car, and there's a moment involving
- 44:39[SPEAKER_02]: trousers and there's just bits that make you go, what, you know, you know, it's all made me think of, you know, in Paul fiction where and apologies for the spoiler for a 30 to your old film, but the moment where Marvin gets showing the face and it just comes out of nowhere, but in the best way, not in a rubbish, it comes out of nowhere way, like, oh, wow, that happens in real life, most accidents happen, things go up and there's bits in this way, oh my god, I won't forget that moment.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_02]: you know so it's I really liked it and I know people are talking about this in the same breath as one battle and sinners it's really really good I don't like it quite as much as those movies so actually I've seen this after my top 10 of the year but it come out boxing day in the UK it probably still weren't going to my top 10 that it would be in like my easily my top 15 I think
- 45:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought it was really, really enjoyable movies, kind of crazy, and he's maybe one of those classic, unlike Paul Protagonist, but by the end of the film, I do kind of like him.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_02]: He's a bit of a douche in a lot of ways, but I think what he's after in life are completely
- 45:47[SPEAKER_02]: understandable things.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_02]: He wants to succeed, you know, and he kind of wants the best for himself, and there's nothing wrong with that.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe the way he goes about it, certain parts of the film are on the best, but yeah, it's great when you see a film like this with an unlikeable protagonist, but you're still rooting for him.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a real feat of the right in directing and
- 46:10[SPEAKER_05]: Andrey, you saw this as well, so I'm kind of the conversing the way the table tennis, but I say it's kind of semi-fictional account of accounting there.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_05]: Did you enjoy this?
- 46:20[SPEAKER_05]: I'm somewhat worried about this though, so it's on my list.
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's sort of, or like inspired by the real-life person, Marty or Iceman.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's not quite that story, but I guess that's where the idea came from.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a different Marty, real-life.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: in the movie, it's a Marty Bowser, so anyway, I don't know if I would say I liked it as much as other people, I mean, the look of the film and the acting and all that was fine, I just kind of by myself watching the film and
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and it's one half of the Safdi brothers directed it, I guess it's Josh Safdi and I know when the two brothers worked together, they would do films where you'd follow a character who wasn't really that likable, but, you know, that was kind of, you know, part of the story.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: Here, you're kind of like, well, you're supposed to root for this character because it starts out kind of like a sports drama type thing and more typical and then it kind goes into its own thing so maybe you're not supposed to because it seems like a lot of the characters in this film have
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: less-than-positive quality, so let's just say, so like it's not like all this person's really great in this other person's like like everyone's kind of flawed or everyone's kind of does things that are kind of like a lot of them you may think all this person's sympathetic and then they do something underhanded.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: So
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: I guess in this film, because it starts out as the sports drama and this kind of uplifting story, and then it kind of goes into something else, and then you're like, oh, okay, you know, he's does a lot of things to survive this protagonist, and so do some of the other characters, so, and yeah, it does follow some of the more typical sports biopic or sports drama
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: I guess if you just kind of detach yourself from it and kind of say, well, you know, this is a story and you're not really supposed to root for him in the more typical way than maybe I just kind of found like the movie was trying to get you to sympathize or root for him and, you know, he's not exactly that kind of person and he's at least a protagonist, he's kind of, or really anyone else and I don't know, you know, they kind of are, you know, not exactly on the up and up.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, that's fine in some other films that the two of them, Sapri Brothers, that worked on, but here it's just one of them, and as I said, it looks fine filming cinematography, the acting, all that's fine.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I don't know if I would say I'd like to as much as other people did.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's just this one.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, and I think our phones are used for this as well.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_05]: Be quick, opinion on this as well.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but I am in the I love the camp.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_04]: I really love that.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_04]: I loved it more than one but a lotter or noters, sinners and that I really really enjoyed it.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_04]: It's very enjoyable film.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_04]: I I subscribed what Andrew and James said about the well, a likeable character but very, very determined and and not so and likeable really.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_04]: It was a well,
- 49:41[SPEAKER_04]: Moralian, not a good person, but with a very, very clear objective and very, a lot of hurdles of cycles to get there.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_04]: So the movie, it's always going forward, things are happening all the time.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_04]: he's trying to overcome everything and creating even click creates new obstacles for himself.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_04]: But he always has the will and the audacity to always try to come up with the next solution that we'll take him closer to his objective.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_04]: And I think, yeah, the movie is very propulsive.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_04]: And I really am in the, I loved it kind of part of it.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, um, next.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_05]: More fictional horror genre here is primate.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_05]: It's, um, it was like a movie plot by his like a since island set natural horror where as a family's adopted chimpanzee goes rabbit after a bite and then it turns onto a, I think it's a family on vacation
- 51:00[SPEAKER_05]: Advocation into a bloody siege, I think, I theorized by this chimpanzee.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_05]: Um, this sounds...
- 51:08[SPEAKER_05]: Being with me, but is it fun?
- 51:10[SPEAKER_05]: Is it good?
- 51:11[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, I thought you did say this.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_04]: And is it fun not very much to me I mean I thought it quite generic you can have some it up perfectly what you said is basically that it's not doesn't have anything else it's basically yeah a long key that gets a rain breeze and goes well he kind of loses his
- 51:36[SPEAKER_04]: mind and attacks everyone.
- 51:38[SPEAKER_04]: That's it.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_04]: That's the movie.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, I thought it was going to be something more.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_04]: But no, it was like a monster in the house movie typical, but this time with a monkey with a rabbit.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_04]: So, nothing else to say, I was quite bored because I was, it was a little bit by the numbers of these kind of films and then boring to me.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_05]: I'm Andrew, you saw this, anything fresh here, or is it worn out and something?
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll just give a little context, I guess I'll get to it with my issues with the dominant moment up.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: But basically, in the film, you have these university students who were, I guess, our home and break, they're coming home to Hawaii, the state of Hawaii.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: And the Chimp is basically, basically, they're a late mother,
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: rather of the, I guess there's like one student who's kind of like the protagonist, so like basically her late mother was like a researcher and worked with, I guess, animals and taught this sign language, your American sign language, on that note, the father who's still alive,
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: when he asked her, so he's hearing impaired both in the movie and in real life, so he's able to communicate with the champ because the champ knows a sign language, you know, and then the late mom would talk the champ sign language and
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I imagine the father did as well.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: So, and that sort of like a real-life context, you know, that the work some research has actually taught chimps, sign language.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, so the student is home, she's reconnecting with her family, with her sister, her younger sister, and her father,
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: After the mother passed away, sometimes not too long before the movie takes place.
- 53:45[SPEAKER_01]: And then they have the friends who are also home from university.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: So, and the chimp has been said, gets rabies, and so it's going to rampage.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: in the house.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, so I mean, that's what it is.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think my main issue with the film is it's fine.
- 54:10[SPEAKER_01]: In terms of the horror scenes and all that and there's some pretty gruesome scenes, I guess pictures not here.
- 54:18[SPEAKER_01]: But pretty violent scenes, yeah, for those who were like that kind of thing,
- 54:28[SPEAKER_01]: choosing the set the story in Hawaii.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: And this does get mentioned in the film eventually, but without trying to get too much away.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_01]: But as with the UK, as I understand it, Rabies is not a thing in the state of Hawaii.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's a series of islands.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_01]: And even you have an island.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: these can't really travel, that's in real life, and it does get mentioned in the film, but why would choose a place where Ruby doesn't exist?
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: And since that's something that the film touches on a little bit, I thought, well, that could be like an interesting thing in itself, but it doesn't really get addressed that much.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, briefly, but I thought, well, that could be
- 55:13[SPEAKER_01]: how did this disease get to Hawaii?
- 55:15[SPEAKER_01]: And what does this mean?
- 55:17[SPEAKER_01]: But it doesn't really get mentioned a whole lot just briefly.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of like, you know, the why couldn't they have said it somewhere else in the US?
- 55:25[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe because otherwise then they would have to, you know, that may affect other issues within the bot line or something.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 55:33[SPEAKER_01]: I just felt like they could have said it somewhere else, otherwise it's like, I mean it looks nice in a way, but I don't think it was actually a film there, I think was filmed.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_01]: The outdoor scenes, I think were filmed in Portugal maybe, and the indoor scenes were filmed in the UK, but yeah, I don't know why they said it in Hawaii, but it looks nice in the scenery, but yeah, that was, I guess, my main issue with the film.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_05]: Well, okay, fine.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_05]: Well, uh, next, like as we are in the season of Biopics, cause we next we have, is this thing on, let's cover a bit of sweet comedy drama, about struggling stand-ups, messy life, and create, and a particular stage of his life.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_05]: Based on John Bishop who's kind of like a TV regular and just a stand-up comedian, I'll pick from Liverpool really originally.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_05]: And this has been directed by Bradley Cooper,
- 56:26[SPEAKER_05]: transmitted to a US same story, but it is his story, but it's only had these things translate, but it's got we are net, nor a den, and it is, I think it's okay, Matt recently here.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_05]: James, you saw this, is this, does this travel well this story?
- 56:46[SPEAKER_05]: Because it is common, very local story in the UK with them during the US.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_02]: Surprisingly, surprisingly, it does, and that was my concern about going to see it,
- 56:56[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I know John Bishop is very well and obviously he was a companion in Doctor Who briefly as well for one series, but very well known UK stand up for maybe the last 15 years, particularly on TV over here.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's literally that it's just transported to America and it works very well.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_02]: So instead of the comedy stories, it would probably be if it was in the UK or that's not where John Bishop did his first gig.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think it would have been like a frog and bucket in live for something.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_02]: So he's sort of transported the comedy center and basically it's yeah,
- 57:36[SPEAKER_02]: Moses breaking down and one night he just sort of stumbles across a comedy club and it's an open mic tonight and he tries to stand up for the first time and basically because he's got no material he just starts talking about his life and then he finds it quite therapeutic and decides to keep going back and keep going back and that's your hosting this twice now and what I noticed the second time is it's much though he's stuff about comedy and it all seems
- 58:04[SPEAKER_02]: very authentic, and I believe JavaScript had some sort of input into that side of things.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_02]: But the story about the relationship that's breaking down is really sort of the meat of it, I think, particularly in the second part.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, one of the final scenes on stage is that I suddenly thought, oh, I haven't haven't seen him on stage for a long time, but yeah, it's really good.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of like
- 58:27[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's a drama really, but it's got funny moments in it.
- 58:31[SPEAKER_02]: I'd say rather than a comedy drama.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_02]: And that works quite well, I think, because it could have been tempting to just make it a comedy.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I think actually that wouldn't have worked.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_02]: And Will Arnett is really good here.
- 58:42[SPEAKER_02]: Laura Don't's always brilliant in everything.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_02]: This is one of those films where it's a brilliant, dual title, you know, is this thing on?
- 58:51[SPEAKER_02]: Is what comedians say when nobody's laughing about the microphone, but is this thing on?
- 58:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's about is the relationship between Laura Dern and will our next characters?
- 59:00[SPEAKER_02]: Is it on or off because they haven't gone through the final stages of divorce, they're separated and they're trying to work it out.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I think there's some really lovely touch in moments in this.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_02]: Bradley Cooper also has a cameo.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_02]: as Willonet's friend, Alls, who is a struggling actor, and he definitely has some of the best lines.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's one of those things.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_02]: The director's just keeping the funniest lines for himself, and he kind of steals a show every time he's in.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_02]: The only thing I'm good about is that he's the only thing I'm good about.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_02]: He's the only thing I'm good about.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's the only thing I'm good about.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's the only thing I'm good about.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's the only thing I'm good about.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_02]: He's the only thing I'm good about.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's the only thing I'm good about.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_02]: He's the only thing I'm good about.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_02]: I will have a little bit of a winge about what this, right?
- 59:32[SPEAKER_02]: And we mentioned after son earlier, under pressure is used in the trailer.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_02]: So I think I'm okay to say, because it's not, it's not massive spoiler.
- 59:39[SPEAKER_02]: But towards the end of the film, they use under pressure, which is used really in being after son.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_02]: and it's used in a particular way where they strip the instruments out and they just leave the vocals.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_02]: They do that in this.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: They literally still that idea, but it doesn't feel earned.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, it feels really weird because it's sort of like, why are we listening to this without any music?
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't make any sense.
- 1:00:03[SPEAKER_02]: But that's one...
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_02]: tiny gripes that I've got, that they've kind of, it feels like they've plagiarized that fruit from after some week, which did it first.
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I was really surprised I didn't think this would work at all, but actually I think it works very, very well.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, okay, yeah, I did hear out the size three that he, when they approached him, I think we'll aren't that really pushed to get this done and I think before John Bishop agreed to it he said, uh,
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, I'll let you have a shot here, but you've got to come over here to Liverpool and you've got to come and do some send-up yourself and actually before you get that story to so it's quite quite.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_05]: But I think that this is a thing he was doing.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_02]: Will our net was being introduced as the character because he's not John Bishop.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_02]: The character is called Alex, no vacuum mix, rather than John Bishop.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_02]: Just don't probably give a bit of distance between the character.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_02]: But apparently he was introduced at comedy clubs as Alex, no vacuum, when a station obviously some people recognise him as well are net to try and get that authentic stand-up experience.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_02]: And it's that thing that stand-up scenes work very well because they're not
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_02]: hilarious, but they're not total in either.
- 1:01:07[SPEAKER_02]: They're just kind of in the middle, which is what you'd expect it to be.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if somebody's starting out, they wouldn't be killing it with amazing original material.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_02]: It's all kind of very basic material if you like, but in the best possible way.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_02]: And that's where I think the authenticity of the film has for the stand-up scenes comes through.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_05]: Next.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_05]: We've got to have a dark comic survival thriller, as opposed to that territory, send help.
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_05]: This is about an employee in a dormery boss, Stranded in a deserted island, after a plain crash, we two make items and didn't have one.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_05]: Directed by Sam Raimi, always a good pedigree of horror, obviously, for me, with Dead Series.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_05]: So, always good stuff when he is in this wheelhouse.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_05]: So, um, see, James, you saw this?
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we've got all the directors from the Terrible MCU films today.
- 1:02:08[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you very much.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_05]: Back to their resume.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's a good one, actually.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_03]: The reason he has actually.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_05]: Just change the phantoms, fights breaking you.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, I mean, like, Sam, maybe he has his, despite what the script is, he always has his unique.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_05]: You know, I on that and a very stylistic and he's he does good work in this just give him a good script And he does some great work, but I'm guessing send help.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_02]: He's that kind of like a pretty good really really good And I got to say I saw the trade and I think the trader is one of those trades that doesn't really do the film justice and mainly makes it look like a slightly different film to the film it is
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Rachel McAdams, who I think is incredible in, it sounds bad to say in the first third of the film, but she, the physicality of her in the opening, where she is a dowry, obseshum, stunningly attractive actress, and she is so dowry and plays this sort of like crumpled woman at the start who just keeps getting overlooked at work and speaks to her boss
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_02]: Sand would roll down her face and stuff and it's just such a great performance at the start and yet They go to this desert island and the tables are turned much like we're trying to a sadness I know where that film come out think it won the palm door a couple years ago And I think when we were talking about somebody said it was like an eat the rich film But I think that that does the justice to that film.
- 1:03:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's really about the triangle is that the the the High-warky flames so once they end up on the desert island
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_02]: had the skills now have the sort of upper hand.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_02]: And her boss is injured in the flight, but she's always had this desire to go on a reality show, sort of I'm a celebrity type show and be like living in the jungle, so she really thrives in this environment.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_02]: and suddenly she is the one with the uphand over her box.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it's really good.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's mostly those characters for the whole film.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_02]: But we've got really good chemistry together.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's got that Sam Rayme thing where there was a moment in the film I thought, well, this is going off in a different direction, and you go, no, it's not going in that direction, because it's the Sam Rayme film.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_02]: I know what direction it's definitely going to go in.
- 1:04:26[SPEAKER_02]: But there's some really gross out moments
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_02]: Relic the room in the best way in the cinema.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_02]: So half the people are laughing and half the people are appalled But yeah, it's it's it's really fun.
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think obviously there'll be better films in this year But I don't think there'll be any as fun as this and it completely held my attention for the the whole throughout I didn't look at my watch what once Yeah, I really enjoyed it.
- 1:04:52[SPEAKER_05]: I thought it was great.
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_05]: I think okay
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_05]: Yes, when he's that kind of a journey, it was done as well.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_05]: I think if he is going to drag me to hell, we need to return to this after many years.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_05]: But is this as good or better, Andrew, you saw this?
- 1:05:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's very much in the tone of, because, you know, to say, or, I mean, it's kind of a mix of different genres, like a tharsav more sort of this dark comedy set in an office and then things take a turn and then becomes like a survival thriller.
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then the horrorish elements come later in the film.
- 1:05:27[SPEAKER_01]: So it's really a mix of genres.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just one thing.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_01]: And also when the horror or that kind of stuff happens, it's kind of done from a Sam Ramey perspective.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_01]: So people think horror or they think one thing.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_01]: And then I remember when drag me to hell came out.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_01]: So some people who were horror films were kind of disappointed because they thought,
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: I was a little too campy, whatever, and then realized that that was a Sam Ramie film, and when Sam Ramie does horror, he adds a lot of camp a lot of, kind of, yeah, as violent, but it's sort of like, wink and smile type of thing, like, that's much the first evil dead, but like, evil dead too, and army of darkness, and then
- 1:06:09[SPEAKER_01]: again, years later, it would drag me to hell.
- 1:06:11[SPEAKER_01]: So this is kind of in that tone, some of the more violent scenes.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_01]: And they do happen.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, there's very much what James said about the dynamics of how the things, how roles of the switch, you know, when they're on the island.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_01]: But even before that, that seems in the early private film where you're introduced to the characters, and particularly the character play by Rachel McAdams, character called Linda Little.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's sort of like a letter rate of name, so you get into like the story in the office, and how she does all this stuff for her.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: employers and the company and initially the head of the company was going to give her this promotion and then he passes away his son, played by Dylan Bryant takes over and he seems to take a different approach with regards to Rachel McAdams's character and sort of like, yeah, I'm not really big on her, she's
- 1:07:13[SPEAKER_01]: It looks funny and smells funny, she saw these tuna sandwiches at her desk, so that's kind of like what things are established, like the boss, the new boss, Dylan and Brian's character is sort of like this, like he's got his bro friends from the paternity days at university and that kind of that dynamic kind of comes to play way around and things get kind of switched
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I won't try to give way too much because there's stuff that happens during the film that's to kind of like, oh, okay.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but, uh, yeah.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_01]: And then so stories that, you know, you think it's going to go one way and then it's not.
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_01]: And then you things you've maybe seen another.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_01]: films like this, you know, you think like, oh, okay, I could see what this is going and then maybe true, but, you know, there's other things going on.
- 1:08:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, so yeah, I mean, I would say it's, uh, and that's just a horror film.
- 1:08:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of different genres as I said, so yeah, I generally liked it and, uh, you know, we're checking it.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_05]: I found some of you who enjoyed this as well.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, and I loved it.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_04]: It's like, Marty's a pretty before I, it's a loved it a lot.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_04]: It was really, really fun, really twisty, both actors were amazing.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_04]: As James said, Rich and McCanns has a wonderful role that goes through iterations
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_04]: you don't expect where the story is going these the stakes are going up and up all the time you don't feel like it's just two characters because it's just I mean there are more characters in the film but it's always very engrossing, always things moving happening and danger and twist and really well defined the characters and they what they want and they often want the
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, yeah, yeah, really, really.
- 1:09:15[SPEAKER_04]: Really, I want the full time too.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_05]: That's good.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:09:20[SPEAKER_05]: I almost really kind of in safe hands with Sam Remy, when he's kind of like quirky dark material.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, it was, uh, so can I please just doing well as well?
- 1:09:31[SPEAKER_05]: Next.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:09:32[SPEAKER_05]: It's sentimental value.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_05]: This is more of an intimate family driver, exploring into generational trauma.
- 1:09:40[SPEAKER_05]: and motion inheritance, so it's quite heavy here this one.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_05]: A good anchored ensemble car in this one.
- 1:09:47[SPEAKER_05]: So, after you did see this, who's in this and what is it?
- 1:09:53[SPEAKER_04]: Well, sentimental value, it's a film about the director.
- 1:10:00[SPEAKER_04]: who is working on a new film and tries to cast his own daughter who he has not been connected to for a little while for a few years I guess and he tries to reconnect with her via casting
- 1:10:28[SPEAKER_04]: And the movie that they are trying to do has to do also with the family history.
- 1:10:33[SPEAKER_04]: Um, it's a great film.
- 1:10:36[SPEAKER_04]: I know the film that I really loved.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_04]: They are all the actors and artists are fantastic.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, the titles, the history of a family through generations, uh, embodied in the house that the film is going to take place in and it's also the family house.
- 1:10:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's a style and scar scar, it's wonderful when the film, and the founding, it's wonderful when the film, Hakine Trier, who we knew from the worst person in the world, also with this act, just not this recipe, right, Zvi?
- 1:11:15[SPEAKER_04]: It's like a cold director, I would say, many people really like the worst person in the world, and I,
- 1:11:21[SPEAKER_04]: I enjoyed that, but I enjoyed this one more.
- 1:11:25[SPEAKER_04]: I thought the deactivating was fantastic.
- 1:11:28[SPEAKER_04]: The script was fantastic as well.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_04]: And it had a lot of sentimental value.
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, yeah, a wonderful film.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_04]: And I was very nominated for a best picture, very deservedly so.
- 1:11:43[SPEAKER_05]: Let's try talking in the running there.
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, let's go on and look out for.
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_05]: Next, another biopic.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_05]: This is more of a musical, biopic, following a married new diamond and, well, a new diamond tribute act.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_05]: Signing what the Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, this blue colored dreamers, Mike and Claire.
- 1:12:04[SPEAKER_05]: This come out of the UK quite early on actually in January, so it's kind of common gone already here,
- 1:12:10[SPEAKER_05]: and, well, Andrew, you saw this.
- 1:12:15[SPEAKER_05]: Is it good?
- 1:12:16[SPEAKER_05]: Is it something fresh in there?
- 1:12:18[SPEAKER_05]: Is it quite light-hearted material, but I don't know if it's someone chasing their dream, is that kind of like, revive I'm getting from this?
- 1:12:25[SPEAKER_01]: Well, the thing for me is I don't even see the documentary that this is sort of a remake of, I guess, you can say, of the documentary.
- 1:12:34[SPEAKER_01]: This is all based on a two story.
- 1:12:39[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a documentary about them that came out way back in 2008.
- 1:12:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's where the director, Craig Brewer, got the idea from.
- 1:12:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I think my issue is that with the film, is that you see the documentary and that's like the real people and the real story and my comparison is this seems a little bit more Hollywood-ized.
- 1:13:00[SPEAKER_01]: So just to give you some background, they couple in the film,
- 1:13:05[SPEAKER_01]: They, the names are Mike Sardinia and, well, Claire Sardinia, or Claire Stangle, she was known, but Mike and Claire Sardinia are Sardinia.
- 1:13:18[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, Mike and Claire Sardinia.
- 1:13:22[SPEAKER_01]: They, I guess, covered Neil Diamond songs, a rather, he was more into Neil Diamond than she was into other artists, but she kind of came to be into Neil Diamond through marrying Mike, and they would perform at different venues in the state of Wisconsin, like those
- 1:13:48[SPEAKER_01]: around, around there.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_01]: So, and I guess when the highlights of their musical career was getting a chance to perform with Pearl Jam back in the 90s.
- 1:13:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, as I said, I recently seen the documentary, and then watching, I think the documentary is maybe available on YouTube, so I don't know.
- 1:14:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's sort of ticking out.
- 1:14:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I've seen it.
- 1:14:11[SPEAKER_01]: So, I guess my issue when you compare the two versions
- 1:14:18[SPEAKER_01]: This is them, and when I see the movie, it's kind of like, well, or this new film, it's kind of like, well, yeah, it's fine.
- 1:14:27[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't know anything else before, and you just introduce to this story for the first time.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_01]: And you kind of get like, okay, this is just like great story, really.
- 1:14:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, knowing about these people and their love of music, but seeing the documentary first sort of like, yeah, this is more Hollywood eyes.
- 1:14:47[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, like I Kate Hudson kind of looks like Clara Sardina, maybe, but to Jackman, this looks like Hugh Jackman to me.
- 1:14:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, maybe he looks like Mike Sardina, but
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, this is, and also the way that stuff is played on the film.
- 1:15:06[SPEAKER_01]: This one other thing is that their ex name was Lightning and Thunder.
- 1:15:11[SPEAKER_01]: So Lightning is Mike Serdina and Thunder is Claire Serdina.
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_01]: So lightning and thunder when their story gets covered in the documentary, certain things get introduced early on and then those things get introduced later on in this version of the story.
- 1:15:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm sorry I'm going off and haul that but as I said, if you if you don't know this story and you're just watching it for the first time and you're just watching these people play these versions of
- 1:15:37[SPEAKER_01]: these real life personalities and then you watch, you know, the new film, it's like, you know, that's fine, you know, you watch it, you enjoy it, you get their story, you get the basics and it's maybe you feel a certain way coming out of the film.
- 1:15:52[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like having seen the documentary
- 1:15:55[SPEAKER_01]: you maybe should get bad chance and it's not really the most uplifting story and you realize how tough it is.
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_01]: Even the best of circumstances to get into the music business and especially with all that stuff that these two people go through, this couple that have a lot of health issues that the film both films really touch on.
- 1:16:20[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, I
- 1:16:22[SPEAKER_01]: I was there.
- 1:16:22[SPEAKER_01]: I would probably feel differently if I hadn't seen the documentary first.
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think this film is all right, but I guess I'm just more partial to the documentary since I've seen that first.
- 1:16:31[SPEAKER_01]: So, let's do it.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_05]: I want that was sung sung blue.
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_05]: I think that kind of go the time.
- 1:16:37[SPEAKER_05]: But that's uh, that's common done already.
- 1:16:40[SPEAKER_05]: But that's uh, it's put on streaming somewhere.
- 1:16:42[SPEAKER_05]: Right, next we move to a conspiracy for this series where an FBI agency investigate a series of gruesome supermodel deaths and expose a global corporate plot.
- 1:16:58[SPEAKER_05]: This has got hashton culture and Rebecca Hall.
- 1:17:03[SPEAKER_05]: It seems like the premise is a lot like sounds a bit like the substance
- 1:17:10[SPEAKER_05]: Hmm, um, this is an Amazon Prime.
- 1:17:13[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not sure, but uh, I've once I use saw this where this is a series, right?
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_05]: So yeah, where is this found on it?
- 1:17:20[SPEAKER_05]: Is it good?
- 1:17:21[SPEAKER_05]: It is.
- 1:17:23[SPEAKER_06]: Well, it is good enough.
- 1:17:26[SPEAKER_04]: It is, um, it is, uh, you know entertaining from, um,
- 1:17:33[SPEAKER_04]: beginning to well it's we are in the middle of the season more or less so but yeah it's that basically there is let's say there is a cure for being your body getting older and everything and so with this kind of thing that you can get in different ways
- 1:17:57[SPEAKER_04]: but it can also be sexually like getting in bed with someone that has it.
- 1:18:02[SPEAKER_04]: You can get it too.
- 1:18:03[SPEAKER_04]: Well, what did with this?
- 1:18:05[SPEAKER_04]: Do you get younger and very much hotter?
- 1:18:09[SPEAKER_04]: So, but it has, it has, well, let's say secondary effects that are quite deadly.
- 1:18:20[SPEAKER_04]: So it's an also an expect so this to FBI agents are trying to discover what is happening and the other characters played by people like, like, as an creature.
- 1:18:37[SPEAKER_04]: to add the film.
- 1:18:38[SPEAKER_04]: Other interesting actors.
- 1:18:40[SPEAKER_04]: By the way, Rebekah Hall, see, that's a great performance here.
- 1:18:45[SPEAKER_04]: I wasn't expecting that she would turn such a great performance in, I mean, it's not like,
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_04]: like something that she really made for her to shine.
- 1:18:56[SPEAKER_04]: But I really thought that she was really giving her best to this, let's say, fun and entertaining series that doesn't try to be I think with much depth.
- 1:19:07[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, it's just like a twisted thriller with hot people going around Italy, you know, in New York and different places, and
- 1:19:18[SPEAKER_04]: And it has a tongue, it's very tongue-in-cheek too.
- 1:19:22[SPEAKER_04]: People know that it, nobody takes it very seriously.
- 1:19:26[SPEAKER_04]: It's kind of thriller with models or not models, but everyone can have the, anyone can have the body.
- 1:19:35[SPEAKER_04]: of a model.
- 1:19:36[SPEAKER_04]: In reality, it's, well, yeah, but the thing is that, yeah, it's like, let's say like a cure for being decrepit little by little by life, but it's in a testing phase.
- 1:19:51[SPEAKER_04]: Let's say.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_05]: Anyway, it's fun.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_05]: Fine, like hey, all right, a skin deep fryer, I guess.
- 1:19:59[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, next.
- 1:20:01[SPEAKER_05]: A crime filler movie with some favorite two body body actors, Matt Damon and bit of benefit.
- 1:20:13[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, sorry, there's a couple of Miami cops.
- 1:20:15[SPEAKER_05]: who uh, who's unity and that was when they, I guess, find millions in a warehouse and then I think they have to safeguard it and then see if their loyalty to the force of themselves went out.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_05]: I think that's the premises, Kak, one loan premise on that, but uh, um, the good cast, is it, uh, is it a good movie?
- 1:20:35[SPEAKER_05]: Um, it's uh, Andrew, Richard, Richard, you saw this as well.
- 1:20:41[SPEAKER_05]: Uh, looks like
- 1:20:42[SPEAKER_03]: It was, okay, it was actually a better than I thought, doesn't mean that it was great.
- 1:20:49[SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, I know me, though.
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, I don't know why I actually have watched this movie in the first place.
- 1:20:57[SPEAKER_03]: I think I was tired, so I really wanted to go out and say, okay, what's on Netflix?
- 1:21:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I saw this whispering.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, when you have to be a starring bull for Ben Affleck in my demon, that's kind of,
- 1:21:08[SPEAKER_03]: in a way interesting, it's definitely different from wheel empty, I can tell you that.
- 1:21:18[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, it's what's about, just some of the synopsis that we did, we're not going to spoilers.
- 1:21:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, so Ben Affleck and my demon are working in some police departments.
- 1:21:35[SPEAKER_03]: Kind of a DA, kind of, kind of, not to DA, but anyway, among other things we are working to fight drug traffic.
- 1:21:46[SPEAKER_03]: And
- 1:21:48[SPEAKER_03]: One of the colleagues is Kils' prologue of the movie on it.
- 1:21:52[SPEAKER_03]: So those pointers, she's killed straight away.
- 1:21:55[SPEAKER_03]: And obviously, it kind of shook them both up.
- 1:22:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of shocking for them.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_03]: And for the other colleagues, it's like a group of cops, but they are all shaken by this death of this colleague.
- 1:22:16[SPEAKER_03]: I think if others are correctly, basically, just before she died, kind of was working on some kind of big case and Matt Damon, who is kind of the boss, that decides to follow her, follow her, you will do a follow-up case as well, and try to, to prep his case as well, and their path,
- 1:22:42[SPEAKER_03]: gets them all towards the house, where there is a lot, a lot, a lot of money, like more than the thoughts and things gets worse by the minutes from the moment they enter that house.
- 1:22:58[SPEAKER_03]: I'm trying to actually always boil it again, because there are some twists in this movie, but actually I did see coming, which is cool.
- 1:23:05[SPEAKER_03]: That's the good thing about this thing,
- 1:23:12[SPEAKER_03]: However, not so much.
- 1:23:13[SPEAKER_03]: They were actually kind of, yeah, twist, interesting.
- 1:23:17[SPEAKER_03]: You have a supporting role by the kind from the World War Street, is it Dave Chandler or something like that?
- 1:23:26[SPEAKER_03]: What's his name?
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_03]: Kai's Chandler, Kai's Chandler, I'm sorry.
- 1:23:29[SPEAKER_03]: And what I came about, the Walking Dead, is also Steven Young in this movie.
- 1:23:35[SPEAKER_03]: So here, no, no, it was a bit of an effort.
- 1:23:42[SPEAKER_03]: Again, it's definitely not worth any Oscar.
- 1:23:46[SPEAKER_03]: But it was a good movie to watch on Netflix, they're talking about what is a good Netflix movie, that's a good Netflix movie, that's a movie that should be released in the newspapers, that's a good string movie.
- 1:23:56[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, yeah, I did look like it was one of those Netflix movies which you had during the old COVID, where they're releasing big budget movies and the ticking, it belonged to that kind of thing.
- 1:24:07[SPEAKER_05]: I was like, yeah, production values, but not quite good enough to be in a cinema, but anyway,
- 1:24:12[SPEAKER_05]: Andre, so this is well, punching above, it's weight, was it?
- 1:24:17[SPEAKER_05]: So, yeah, do you like this song?
- 1:24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a, it's a, it's entertaining, I guess it's one way to put it.
- 1:24:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's a crime thriller, maybe action, a little bit dumb.
- 1:24:29[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, just had, I'm not with Richard or he said, it has a decent cast, you know, addition to one, I've already been mentioned.
- 1:24:38[SPEAKER_01]: You have Tiana Taylor, who's in it?
- 1:24:40[SPEAKER_01]: people are talking about her maybe winning possibly this year for a one the battle after another.
- 1:24:45[SPEAKER_01]: So she's part of the cast with this film also Sasha Kaia, Kailina, San Dino, Mauriano.
- 1:24:53[SPEAKER_01]: She's in the film.
- 1:24:55[SPEAKER_01]: And some of the ones that I've mentioned, so yeah, it's entertaining.
- 1:25:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's also a good context.
- 1:25:04[SPEAKER_01]: What I understand is the title of the RIP refers to the stash of hash that they find.
- 1:25:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a basically the action that film without trying to give too much away takes place at a stash house or a house where this drug cartel has stashed away some money.
- 1:25:25[SPEAKER_01]: And so a lot of what happens in the film is sort of like trying to figure out what the characters are going to do or what they're not going to do in regards to finding out about this money.
- 1:25:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then you also have the opening part of the film where that other police officer gets murdered, that police captain gets murdered.
- 1:25:47[SPEAKER_01]: So trying to figure out who killed
- 1:25:51[SPEAKER_01]: Murder mystery kind of aspects of the film, sort of trying to figure out what happened to her and why did she get killed and and how cold her and how that ties into what happens through the rest of the film with regards to the the the rip of the film's title.
- 1:26:07[UNKNOWN]: So
- 1:26:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a training film.
- 1:26:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, again, I'm going back to where Richard's said about whether it's something that would have been worthy to be released from cinemas.
- 1:26:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but for something out of Netflix.
- 1:26:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's fine.
- 1:26:23[SPEAKER_01]: There's probably better films of this genre out there, maybe I imagine.
- 1:26:28[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, this is fine.
- 1:26:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's fine, film.
- 1:26:31[SPEAKER_05]: Well, from one ad-hating cop drama,
- 1:26:34[SPEAKER_05]: to another.
- 1:26:35[SPEAKER_05]: It's animated, a buddy cop sickle.
- 1:26:39[SPEAKER_05]: Zootopia too.
- 1:26:40[SPEAKER_05]: The only difference is this has made human manga synapses of money in the box office this year and it's it's sickle.
- 1:26:50[SPEAKER_05]: It's the animated sequel where Judy and Nick investigate missing reptiles and I took cover up all very very dark business here which could be a city.
- 1:27:01[SPEAKER_05]: It's going to be a good win in Jason, Batman Return.
- 1:27:06[SPEAKER_05]: This must be phenomenal, because I haven't even watched the first one, but the amount of box offices is made must be hard hitting stuff.
- 1:27:14[SPEAKER_05]: James, you saw his YouTube here too.
- 1:27:17[SPEAKER_05]: and you'll meet it again.
- 1:27:18[SPEAKER_03]: And you're good to get it.
- 1:27:20[SPEAKER_05]: To make you look good.
- 1:27:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, you're good to get it.
- 1:27:22[SPEAKER_02]: I saw, I saw Zootropolis, so as it's called in the UK, because when Zootopia.
- 1:27:30[SPEAKER_02]: What?
- 1:27:30[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
- 1:27:31[SPEAKER_02]: Because?
- 1:27:32[SPEAKER_02]: Why?
- 1:27:32[SPEAKER_02]: In 2016, when Zootopia was due to open,
- 1:27:37[SPEAKER_02]: There was a company called Zootopia that was registered on company's house in the UK, and there was a zoom into open up called Zootopia, right?
- 1:27:46[SPEAKER_02]: And Disney were like, well, we don't, we can't, they were their first, so we can't tell them not to do that.
- 1:27:52[SPEAKER_02]: But we don't want them to, so we're going to rename it.
- 1:27:54[SPEAKER_02]: The zoom never opened.
- 1:27:56[SPEAKER_02]: But in the UK, the whole of the first film is re-dupped with the words Zootropolis instead of Zootopia.
- 1:28:02[SPEAKER_02]: So, fast forward to 10 years later, they've done the same thing for Zootroplets towards Zootopia 2.
- 1:28:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, following Hop some wild again, and I really, like I really love the first one.
- 1:28:16[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to watch it, Richard, because it's just so...
- 1:28:20[SPEAKER_02]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 1:28:42[SPEAKER_02]: We're really good characters and it's basically about them becoming partners, sort of cop partners, so that the rabbit and the fox, you know, so it's a nice little story and you've got these wonderful really big voice cast in it, Intercellbers in it, who is obviously instantly recognisable, Shakira, lots of in-jokes of people voicing.
- 1:29:05[SPEAKER_02]: animals that are close to their their namesake and things like that and you also have flash the slot the slow because I wonder why I watched this film and it's because of the sequence where they're talking to flash the slow reaction very slowly to everything that said and it's hilarious right my big wipe about this new film is flashes barely in it exactly like he almost needs his own spin-off and I think I would watch that even with the pauses I think it would
- 1:29:34[SPEAKER_02]: Don't get me wrong.
- 1:29:35[SPEAKER_02]: It was really fun to be back in this world.
- 1:29:37[SPEAKER_02]: It really was, but I feel it's lacking the story just isn't as good as the first one.
- 1:29:42[SPEAKER_02]: So it's kind of like, oh, what comes next?
- 1:29:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm sorry.
- 1:29:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to drop it in.
- 1:29:48[SPEAKER_02]: Robo cut.
- 1:29:48[SPEAKER_02]: We talk about Robo.
- 1:29:49[SPEAKER_02]: I was planning to do this, right?
- 1:29:51[SPEAKER_02]: But with Robo cut, we always say maybe the original story, the origin story is the best thing.
- 1:29:56[SPEAKER_02]: and then that they do the TV series and it's just other cases, other cases.
- 1:30:00[SPEAKER_02]: And like with this it's about that initial meeting and the stuff and there is stuff here about the partnership and that's fun, but it's all been explored in the previous one.
- 1:30:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't know how much it would have just been fun to revisit the first film.
- 1:30:13[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously now this has taken, I mean the original was a budget of 150 million.
- 1:30:19[SPEAKER_02]: and it made over a billion.
- 1:30:21[SPEAKER_02]: In the time when everything made a billion.
- 1:30:23[SPEAKER_02]: But now this has made close to two billion.
- 1:30:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's the second biggest box office film of last year apart from Nizarb II, so it's the biggest Hollywood film, and it's significantly bigger than Box office III, which has got a sting a little bit at the people that assumed that that would would walk to.
- 1:30:42[SPEAKER_02]: But it's done really well in China.
- 1:30:43[SPEAKER_02]: I think, as well, the other thing that happened with Moana too, because that was one that they were going to put to streaming.
- 1:30:49[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, having that gap, a really big gap between sequel is often a good thing for the box office, because there's a bunch of kids who never saw the first one in the cinema.
- 1:30:58[SPEAKER_02]: Or if you're six, it didn't even exist.
- 1:31:01[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 1:31:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you couldn't have gone back in time and seen it when you were
- 1:31:05[SPEAKER_02]: So you watch this at home on streaming, and suddenly, wow, there's a new zoo, trouplets, there was a phobia film, and so you go and see it at the cinema.
- 1:31:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's good, and it is good, it's fine, but I don't think it's of the caliber of the first one, and it's just the originality.
- 1:31:19[SPEAKER_02]: I'm always a little bit like, you know, what can you do, bring that's new to the table, you know.
- 1:31:27[SPEAKER_02]: But it's really durable, it's done very well,
- 1:31:31[SPEAKER_02]: The idea of releasing it, Christmas is quite shrewd moved because people will go and see it.
- 1:31:37[SPEAKER_02]: If there's something that's family friendly, you know, even when you've got this year, you're going to have a June stay as it's being called, you know, there is still that thing of you might not take very young children see this, but this is suitable for all the family.
- 1:31:49[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, it's really fun.
- 1:31:51[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, because it's now made near to 2 billion and it'll probably cost 2 billion.
- 1:31:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's not slowing down actually.
- 1:31:57[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it, you know, I'm sure as a topia 3, we won't be waiting another 10 years for the next one.
- 1:32:03[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure the next one will become very, very soon.
- 1:32:06[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:32:06[SPEAKER_05]: And all right.
- 1:32:08[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:32:08[SPEAKER_05]: And just I mean, we'll go around a couple of special recommendations.
- 1:32:13[SPEAKER_05]: James, you've got one for us, hate for horse.
- 1:32:17[SPEAKER_05]: What's that?
- 1:32:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, H for Hawke, based on a true story and it's a lady who's, she works at a university, her father dies and she fathered by Brendan Gleason and the character played by Claire Foy and after Brendan Gleason's character dies, she feels very cut off sort of very isolated from the rest of her family.
- 1:32:43[SPEAKER_02]: She doesn't really breathe sort of maybe in the traditional way and
- 1:32:48[SPEAKER_02]: and she decides to adopt the gospel, which is one of the most difficult words to train by by all accounts.
- 1:32:55[SPEAKER_02]: And it's a very nuanced performance by Claire Foish.
- 1:32:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's really, you know, really stunning performance, I think.
- 1:33:03[SPEAKER_02]: And it's very difficult, different to the depiction of grief by Jesse Buckley in Amnet, but I think it's maybe more believable.
- 1:33:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think the clear for you one, it's sort of a more restrained performance, but I think it's maybe how people more often react.
- 1:33:19[SPEAKER_02]: And it's in a very short time frame, but there's a real gospel unit and there's scenes that are real scenes of the gospel content and things like that.
- 1:33:28[SPEAKER_02]: It's only like half a minute, but it's a really good little film, I think, so H for Hall.
- 1:33:34[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, thanks.
- 1:33:35[SPEAKER_05]: Richard, you've got a couple of recommendations.
- 1:33:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:33:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 1:33:40[SPEAKER_03]: Two dimensions.
- 1:33:43[SPEAKER_03]: The first one is an animating movie, so it's a fresh animation movie, but had literally critical acclaim, I think, anyway, it has been a reason, I think it was released first in
- 1:33:55[SPEAKER_03]: the festival of unseen friends at his celebrating truly animated movies, and then it went abroad and it gets even nominated at the Oscars.
- 1:34:07[SPEAKER_03]: So, I'm in a metaphysics, you've been French.
- 1:34:10[SPEAKER_03]: It was released abroad as little a million of the character of reign.
- 1:34:16[SPEAKER_03]: It is an adaptation.
- 1:34:17[SPEAKER_03]: Lose the adaptation, lose the adaptation from a book by Aminine Torbe, with a very famous French writer from Belgium, with famous French, French, sorry, extremely popular in France.
- 1:34:32[SPEAKER_03]: Perhaps the most popular female writer of the last 50 years in France, every single one of a book is like a best seller.
- 1:34:40[SPEAKER_03]: And Metaphysi de Tribe is one of the most popular one,
- 1:34:48[SPEAKER_03]: funny way, a childish way, it tells her own story of Amin in a tone, how she grew up in Japan.
- 1:34:58[SPEAKER_03]: Because actually, it's true, but actually, Amin in a tone grew up in Japan.
- 1:35:01[SPEAKER_03]: She is actually the daughter of a Belgian diplomat who lived in Japan.
- 1:35:05[SPEAKER_03]: And it kind of is
- 1:35:07[SPEAKER_03]: She's a very smart writer, and you can see the animated movie of a book by, I mean, Tom is extremely good idea actually, I mean, surprising that nobody had thought about that in France before, because she's as great imagination, because she's able to talk about serious stuff and also
- 1:35:33[SPEAKER_03]: Very simple stuff, but with her own words and her own images, own imagination, and it's always funny to read.
- 1:35:41[SPEAKER_03]: She did everything from kind of biopic to free loads, et cetera.
- 1:35:47[SPEAKER_03]: In that case, it's kind of a biopic, but it's a funny biopic.
- 1:35:50[SPEAKER_03]: It's, I mean, it was like three years old, and she tried to understand the world around her.
- 1:35:56[SPEAKER_03]: It's extremely funny, it's tribute, sadder, sometimes.
- 1:35:59[SPEAKER_03]: And the animation is pretty amazing.
- 1:36:02[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it will win the Oscar, unfortunately, because in this category, they are some very strong contendance.
- 1:36:11[SPEAKER_03]: And the very popular ones, more popular than I mean, but anyway, it's always good actually to have some recognition.
- 1:36:17[SPEAKER_03]: And the second one is kind of a French movie, but we have an international cast.
- 1:36:25[SPEAKER_03]: Another French movie called Remashri Kremlin, or the Wizard of the Kremlin, another adaptation from the book.
- 1:36:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's directly about Oligia Zayas, but he tells us an international cast with a name of Hugh Bodano, Jude Low and different rights to name of Hugh Adacet.
- 1:36:47[SPEAKER_03]: And again, so there is a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie, the very important disclaimer, especially in that word,
- 1:36:54[SPEAKER_03]: I'm guessing that it was almost dangerous to release a movie like this because let's say I'm kind of describe in a few words.
- 1:37:03[SPEAKER_03]: If you remember the apprentice, the movie about Donald Trump couple of heels back in a way, in a way.
- 1:37:11[SPEAKER_03]: The Wizard of the Kremlin is the apprentice, but for that they may put him.
- 1:37:16[SPEAKER_03]: And it's
- 1:37:18[SPEAKER_03]: It's a through the eyes of a fictional character, who perhaps existed with his name, a fictional character, fictional guy who actually was a student who rose to prominence in Moscow, and who became one way or another, he became a very powerful guy ahead of the first TV channel
- 1:37:48[SPEAKER_03]: Let's say the first political advisor of a very important guy who will become the leader of Russia by the way Putin played by Jude Low.
- 1:37:58[SPEAKER_03]: So, Paul Danow is playing the advisor and Jude Low is playing by the way Putin.
- 1:38:02[SPEAKER_03]: I would have talked much about the performance of Jude Low because he's literally meeting Mimi King by the way Putin most of the time.
- 1:38:09[SPEAKER_03]: That's not just strength of the movie.
- 1:38:11[SPEAKER_03]: The second movie is how it's written because obviously every single time you think
- 1:38:17[SPEAKER_03]: Is it true?
- 1:38:18[SPEAKER_03]: Is it true?
- 1:38:18[SPEAKER_03]: Is it true?
- 1:38:18[SPEAKER_03]: Is it true?
- 1:38:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's not true.
- 1:38:20[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, I'm guessing that the writer would say that nothing is true and imagine everything, but they are a lot, they play with, they play with this because there are a lot of real footage in between the movie, among fictional scenes.
- 1:38:35[SPEAKER_03]: So,
- 1:38:36[SPEAKER_03]: You have a line between reality and fiction is very, very thin.
- 1:38:40[SPEAKER_03]: And I think it's worth watching it.
- 1:38:43[SPEAKER_03]: Again, not a good idea to think that everything is true to take the thing for granted.
- 1:38:50[SPEAKER_03]: But still, I think it's an interesting analysis of what happened in Russia and in Europe for the last 25 years, even more, 35 years.
- 1:39:06[SPEAKER_03]: but also some moments that make you think.
- 1:39:09[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, I really, really enjoyed this movie too.
- 1:39:11[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's yeah.
- 1:39:12[SPEAKER_03]: Great.
- 1:39:13[SPEAKER_05]: Thanks for that, Richard.
- 1:39:14[SPEAKER_05]: And thanks for our hosts.
- 1:39:15[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you for joining me.
- 1:39:17[SPEAKER_05]: James Andrew, I have one, sir.
