- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hey, hey, everyone.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another episode of Crushing Strongholds.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: This is a podcast that helps turn pain into power and trauma into triumph and a place where we can just focus on being better versions of ourselves.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I am Mickey and I am a Christian life coach.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: And today I am your host.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: So I thank you for chiming and joining us today.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: I just can't wait to share what I have for you today.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: And for those of you that know me, know that I just love to share the joint and the love of Jesus, as well as help people to break free from bondage and to crush strongholds.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: That's what this podcast is all about.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: So in today's episode, this is episode number six.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: This episode is titled, Who is the captain of your ship?
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Let me ask you that again.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Who is the captain of your ship?
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Are you running your ship or is your ship running you?
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Are you about to be shipwrecked?
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Have you been shipwrecked?
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Overcome being shipwrecked.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Where are you at today?
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: We want to talk about that today.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Let's dive into that.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: So, in the word of God, which I hope that you get your Bibles ready because we're going to dive in to the Word of God today and um take a look at some scripture that is going to help us decide who is the captain of your ship.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Now, I know who the captain of my ship is, but for a long, long, long time, I'm pretty sure that I wasn't the captain of my own ship.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: So I heard this once that you are a captain, you don't let the enemy come in and take captivity of you and your ship.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: So this episode is actually going to be talking about um captivity.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So let's look at 2 Corinthians, and we want to go to chapter 10 and verse 5.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: We're going to look at verse 5.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: So 2 Corinthians is in the New Testament.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: It's after 1 Corinthians and it's before Galatians in the New Testament of the Bible.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: So I would love for you guys to read along with me so we can knock out this um verse and we can talk about it and we can figure out who is actually the captain of your ship today.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So 2 Corinthians 10 and 5, casting down arguments and everything that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, what does that mean?
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: That means we are supposed to take our thoughts captive before our thoughts take captive of us.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: So when I think of a thought taking captive of me, if I want to be the captain of my ship, I can't allow my thoughts to take captive of me because then they become captive, captain of my ship.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: And that's what we want to avoid.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: We want to be very careful when we have thoughts come into our mind and this mindset that we get to keep our thoughts focused on God and in obedience to Christ.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: If we're doing that, then we will always stay the captive of our own ship.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: There's not going to be anything that comes in and takes us captive.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: So I want to talk about that a little bit.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: So now that we've gone through that scripture, I want to ask you this.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: What does it take?
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: What does it take to um break down the process of capturing your thoughts?
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: It seems like when I think of when I think of it, sometimes I think of like um a little kid running around with a butterfly net and they're trying to catch a butterfly, and they're trying and they're trying and they're trying until they catch the butterfly in the net.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I feel like with myself, that's that's the struggle.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: We're running around chasing the thoughts because we have so many of our thoughts that come into our mind and we're trying to put them into perspective and we're trying to take responsibility for them, and we're trying to decipher which ones need to stay and which ones need to go.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: So here's all these thoughtful butterflies running around, and me running around with the net, trying to capture the ones that I need to capture and let go of the ones that don't need to be captured.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: We want to make sure that we do not hold on to thoughts that don't belong in our mindset, in our thinking, and in our lives.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Because a lot of our thoughts actually turn into um actions and behaviors and patterns, and it helps to do one of two things actually.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's not helpful, sometimes it's hurtful.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: So it can um be a good thing if you have good thoughts, positive thoughts, happy thoughts, um loving thoughts, and um it could be a bad thing if you have negative thoughts, um, angry thoughts, hurtful thoughts, um, oh, destructive thoughts.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: So we want to make sure that we are prioritizing and kind of organizing, if you will, the thoughts that we have in mind.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So let's talk about um understanding the concept of what it means to capture our thoughts, okay?
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Um we need to manage, we need to manage what's going on.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Kind of like when you run a business, um, you have to be um ahead of the game and you always you always have to be managing everything that's going on, okay?
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you have to uh compartmentalize what you're doing in life, okay?
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: So um taking your thoughts is the same thing.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: You have to do that with your thought process.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: What's coming, what thoughts are coming in, what you're gonna do with them, okay?
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Are you going to um have a reaction to them?
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Are you going to just allow them to penetrate your thinking?
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Um, maybe even come in and ruin your whole entire day.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Or are you just gonna put the put put put the door uh the we are out of out of business, we're closed, whatever sign on the door to keep them out, keep them at bay.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Um, we want to keep them um captive so they can't come into our ship.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: That makes any sense at all.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, hopefully I'm making some kind of sense here.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: So let's look at a scripture to look at um one more scripture, Philippians 4, 8.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: This is gonna be a whole Philippians 4 8.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Let's turn there.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: It is the New Testament as well.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: It is uh Philippians 4 and chapter 8, and it says, finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there's anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, we are to be meditating on good things.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: That means whatever we're thinking about, they should be good things.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: So if we have thoughts that are coming our way, like negative thoughts, we need to not meditate on those.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: We need to switch the switch over to the things that we need to be thinking about.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: So if a thought comes into your mind, you have to ask yourself: is this true?
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Is this honest?
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Is this pure?
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Is this praiseworthy?
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Is this noble?
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Is this of good report?
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: These are questions you could actually ask yourself with your own thought process to see where you're at, to see what's going on in your own thinking, in your own mind.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Challenging negative thoughts is basically um questioning your thoughts and then replacing them with good thoughts and making sure that the thoughts honor God.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's the alternative.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: If you have a thought that comes to you and you're not sure if it doesn't, if it's doesn't honor God, it's not going to be pleasing to God, it's not gonna be obedient to God, it's probably not a thought that you want to hold on to.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: You want to just say, no, not today.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: I'm not, I'm not, I'm not accepting that day.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: So it's hard to focus on every single thought that comes into your mind because we're busy every day.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: We have routines, we have habits, we do things um um sometimes just randomly.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: So sometimes we just get ransom without even um paying any attention to to whether we should be accepting those thoughts or not.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: So another huge part of taking captivity of thoughts that don't belong in our mind is to stay focused, to stay.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: And if you're always focusing on positive outlooks and positive thinking, then you will have less negative thoughts coming to you because you won't have time for just random negative thoughts to come into your mind, if that makes sense.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, so what are the benefits?
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: What are the benefits of managing your thoughts?
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Some people will be like, hmm, um, not sure I ever thought about it like that.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: Well, if you're managing your thoughts, um, it will reduce your anxiety, it can also reduce depression, it can reduce negativity, and it can reduce stress in life.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: If you just simply allow only the positive thoughts to come in your mind, there's no room for negative.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: And all of the other symptoms and side effects, they will they will lessen, they won't be as intense.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Also, if you are trying to keep your thoughts in line with the word of God and trying to be obedient to God's word with your thoughts, you're gonna grow spiritually, you're gonna get closer to God, and God is gonna honor that, and he's gonna bless you.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: So there's another benefit to that.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: So we know he said there's benefits to how we think in our life, okay?
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Also, positive actions, positive actions are gonna happen when thoughts are aligned with God's will, positively influence what you do in life, what what choices you make.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: You're if you're having positive attitude, positive thinking, you're more than likely gonna make positive decisions.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna be making negative decisions because you'll think about it ahead of time, okay?
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: So when you're taking every thought captive, it's a process, okay?
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: It's self-regulation.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: You're actually regulating what you are allowing to come in or out of your mind.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: You get to set the standards, okay?
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And I know that sounds kind of kind of strange.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh my goodness, um, how do I set the standard of my own thoughts?
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Um, you're allowed, especially if if you're if you're focusing on in on the word of God, like the scripture says that we need to take every thought, not not just one thought here and there, every thought captive and bring it to the obedience of Christ.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: If we're actually doing that, our lives are going to be so much more fulfilled because God is going to um not only bless us, he's gonna keep us full of jewel and life, and he's gonna help us to thrive and he will help us overcome obstacles.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: So when you're thinking of positive thoughts most of the time, all the time, anytime you can, when a negative thought comes to you, you're gonna catch it really quickly, just like that.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: You're gonna be like, nope, you're gonna recognize it right away.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Now, if you're used to always just being negative, negative, negative, negative, negative, and you rarely have a positive thought, then it's gonna be a little harder.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a little bit harder, it's gonna take some training, it's gonna take some time, it's gonna take some practicing, it's gonna take literally going around and talking maybe to yourself positively, um, talking about your situations, thinking it over.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, you need to meditate, you need to focus in on it, you need to dial in and and and try to decipher what your thoughts are.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: So, I have another scripture that I want to share with you, share with you real quick.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: So let's turn in our Bible, in our Bibles to John 10 10.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Okay, and I I want to bring this scripture into play because sometimes our thoughts come from us, and sometimes our thoughts come from the enemy.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: So I want to share this scripture with you, okay?
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: So John, New Testament John um 10 10 says, The thief does not come except I have to turn the page, except to kill, to steal, to kill, and to destroy.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: So you see, God wants us to have abundant life, the enemy does not.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: So if you are already thinking negatively all on your own, the enemy is probably jumping up and down joy right now because he's delighted in that, that he doesn't even have to come and bother you because you're already doing it on your own.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Now, if you're trying to change and you're starting to take your thoughts captive, now the enemy's gonna start coming at you and start trying to trigger you, and he's gonna start turn uh throwing stuff at you and wanting you to um have other thoughts that you didn't have.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: So we got to be mindful, constantly thinking about the thoughts um that we're having.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Are they thoughts that we ourselves are bringing on?
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Are they thoughts from the enemy, or are they both?
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Okay, sometimes we have thoughts um because just because of generational curses, some of the thought process processes that I've dealt with in my lifetime were things that were spoken over me from um my family from my mom, um, and specifically my mom.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: And so it allowed me to constantly think that about myself because that's what I was told about for years and years and years and years and years.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: Um, stuff like um, you're not gonna measure up, you're not gonna be any good at that.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Um, you're not very smart, you don't know how to do that.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: Um negative things, a lot of negative things, okay.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: And I know that for my mom, I can almost guarantee that these were the things that were spoken to her, and so she's kind of paying it forward kind of thing to me.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: So um we have to be careful also who we allow to give us thoughts, okay?
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: If someone's talking to us negatively, we don't have to, we don't have to allow it or put up with it.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: We can say, you know, that's you know, I don't accept that.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: I don't accept that.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, they can think what they want, but you don't have to think that way.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: You don't have to think that way about yourself because God created you, He created you to be um masterful.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: You are an individually created person with a purpose and an assignment that is going on in your life, and God literally specifically designed you for a reason, and nobody can take that away, but the enemy will try to, general rational curses, curses will try to.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Our own negative thoughts will try to keep us from fulfilling the God given purpose that God had ordained for our lives.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, I want to share one more scripture to you, real quick.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: So let's turn to 2 Corinthians 3 17.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, and I actually really love this scripture because in this scripture, um when we're talking about crushing strongholds, the whole idea of crushing, crushing strongholds is to become free from things that hold us back from where we should be, where we can be, where we need to be, um where God has literally um designed us to be.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: So if we're not living up to our God-given purpose and fulfilling that, then we don't have freedom in it.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: We don't have freedom in anything.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: So I love this scripture.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: So this is 2 Corinthians chapter 3, and it says, Now the Lord of the Spirit, and where the spirit is the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, some Bibles say freedom in place of liberty.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Um, this is the K or this is the new King James Version.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: The King James Version also says liberty.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: The NIV actually says freedom.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: And I don't know if you know that song by um uh Josh Baldwin is his name that is um uh what does it say?
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: Uh spirit, where there where the spirit is, there is freedom.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Sorry, I had a mind blank there for a moment by Josh Baldwin.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Really, really great song, and it's completely scriptural.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: That song is entirely scriptural and it's so powerful because there's so much truth in it that if we are not in line with the Holy Spirit and in God's word and we're not in obedience, then we're gonna draw control.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: We're never gonna get to the freedom heart, we're never gonna get to be the captain of our own ship because our thoughts are the captain of our ship.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: They're taking over our ability to take control of what we should be taking control of.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: We are entitled to get a hold of our mind and our thinking and our thought process.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: And it's so exciting when we think about um being like even just delivered from our own thought process.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: It's amazing when we think, you know what?
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: There is no reason that we have to continually um be stuck in a negative thought process.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: We can have a positive outlook, we can have a positive outcome, no matter even what the situation.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: I've been asked before um by some of my clients, they say, but not every situation is a fun one, not every situation is um happy, it could be sad, it could, it could be frustrating, it could be um infuriating, it could be all kinds of different things that could bring on and trigger negative um thoughts in our mind.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: And that is true.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of things in the world that we are going to be tested from.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be tested, and God wants to know if when we're being sitting in these areas, are we gonna be obedient or are we just gonna let it just tear us down?
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: And for me, so many times in my life did I let the situation tear me down.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: And I had to figure out how to overcome that.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: I had to figure out a rise above and be like, you know what, no matter what happens today, I'm gonna be okay.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have a good day, I'm not gonna let it bother me.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: This is gonna how gonna be how my day is going to go.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: And and we can do that.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: You can do that.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: It's not, it's it, it's not as hard as it seems, but it can be struggle.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: It can be a struggle if you're not used to doing it.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: And if you're not used to doing it and you need help doing it, that's what I'm here for.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: I am a Christian life coach, and I actually help people that struggle with their own negative thought process.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: I help people that struggle with um depression and anxiety and fear, fear and the rejection and abandonment that comes with the strongholds that are in people's lives.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: And trust me when I say this, if you if that's you, you're not alone.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: You're not alone in it.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: A lot of us, most people in the world have struggled at one point in time or another with strongholds.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: Now, the thing is, is are you crushing them?
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: Are you are you working on them?
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Are you going to just sit and dwell on it and stay stuck in it and never move forward and just stay idle?
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: Or are you going to dive in and be like, I need help in this area.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: I want to get free from this.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: I want the freedom.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: I want this freedom.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: And that's what I'm telling you today.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: You can have this freedom.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: And if you want it, just reach out to me.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: I'll be glad to help you with a program that will help you bring some much joy, not some, much joy in your life, happiness, and um just help you get a new perspective on a new way of living from being always stuck in the negative, always never getting anywhere, always feeling just like you constantly have failed at something.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: I always felt that way for years.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: I felt I was just never gonna measure up, I was never gonna be good enough.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: I had to go through this myself.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: I actually went and got counseling for myself, and then I went and got educated.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: I went to school, associated, got my associates to my bachelor's degree, my life coaching certificate, and um and um my ministry degree because I really wanted to learn what it was that God wanted for me because I wasn't sure that even God loved me.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: That's how that's how down I didn't even think I was lovable by God.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: I thought I was such a screw up in my life because I was always told, you know, um what you know, what a misfit I was basically, that I could never measure.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: So I literally struggled with even even being gut for God.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: So I had to figure it out, and I did, and I went and I I went to school for it and I learned it, and God changed my entire life.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And I'm here today to tell you that I can help you do the same thing.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: I I I really can.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: And I know that um there's a lot of people out there that are okay, just staying miserable.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: And I hope that's not you today.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: I don't want you to be in a in a place of misery.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: I want you to find some joy in your life.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: I want you to be able to to grab life and and enjoy it for what it's really worth.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: And I know that we live in a dark world right now, and it makes it seem even harder to go, well, we're already the world's already messed up.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: There's no hope.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: There is hope.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: God is hope, okay?
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: And and God wants us to um get in and get that hope and put that hope within us and then share it with others.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: That's what that's what the word is all about.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: That's what God does.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, so anyhow, I just want to say thank you, thank you so much for being in here and thank you for listening.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: And if you need prayer for anything, or if you have any questions at all today about this scripture that I went over today, if you have questions about it, just DM me, let me know.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: And also ask yourself this who is the captain of your ship?
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Who is that?
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: What does that look like?
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: Are you running your ship, or is something else like your thoughts running you?
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: We need to take those thoughts captive before they become captains.
