- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Reality TV Cringe. I am one
- 0:10Speaker 1: of your hosts, Delia, and I'm here with my real
- 0:14Speaker 1: tight homegirl and my daughter-in-law, the quintessentially exuberant, jubilant, and gorgeous.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Jubilant. Jubilant.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Beatrice.
- 0:23Speaker 2: That's me.
- 0:24Speaker 1: We are here to talk about Something that is currently
- 0:28Speaker 1: swirling in the pop culture zeitgeist. You know, sometimes we
- 0:32Speaker 1: like to just talk about the things we're talking about,
- 0:35Speaker 1: but we want to talk about them with you.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:37Speaker 1: And I don't know if you have heard about this
- 0:40Speaker 1: thing that happened recently at a sports competition put on
- 0:45Speaker 1: by a company called High Rocks. I'm going to stop
- 0:49Speaker 1: right here because... It's so crazy and I want to
- 0:53Speaker 1: give it the proper amount of decanting in time. So
- 0:56Speaker 1: before we get into all of the facts around this story,
- 1:00Speaker 1: we do have to issue a disclaimer, especially for this one, guys.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Please hide your wife and hide your cats. This is
- 1:08Speaker 1: an irreverent podcast. We talk about things that we would
- 1:11Speaker 1: typically laugh about and we are very bawdy women. We
- 1:15Speaker 1: swear a lot. We don't at all and so if
- 1:19Speaker 1: you're one of them sensitive.
- 1:21Speaker 2: People sensitive if you don't like nasty stuff this ain't
- 1:24Speaker 2: for you.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Right now you might want to find.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yourself another dumpster this is your warning but if you're
- 1:30Speaker 3: ready to hear about a really shitty situation literally happen
- 1:34Speaker 3: like such a shitty situation then welcome to this dump
- 1:40Speaker 3: And if you.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Like what we do over here and you don't think
- 1:42Speaker 2: that we're shitty, please follow us on Instagram at Reality

- 2:13Speaker 1: and subscribe. Because seriously, every single thing you do helps
- 2:17Speaker 1: us in the algorithm. Allegedly. Oh, you know what I forgot?
- 2:19Speaker 2: What?
- 2:20Speaker 1: Did you hype your girls up?
- 2:21Speaker 3: Oh.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Did you hype your girls up? I didn't see it.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Because apparently if you hype us up, the algorithm puts
- 2:28Speaker 1: us out there to other raccoons who can then join
- 2:31Speaker 1: us in the dumpster.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And it's free, so why don't you just freaking hype
- 2:35Speaker 2: us up already?
- 2:35Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Good.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And thanks.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So back to the story at hand. I don't know.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I caught stinky wind of it probably. We're filming this
- 2:49Speaker 1: on a Thursday. So I caught stinky wind of this
- 2:53Speaker 1: like at the tail end of last weekend. I think
- 2:55Speaker 1: the competition, it was held in Beijing, China, right? I
- 2:59Speaker 1: think it was last weekend.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It was like at the beginning. I think it was
- 3:02Speaker 2: like the 14th or something like that or the 12th.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I don't know. Okay. It happened recently.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It was very recent.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And all of a sudden my timeline on Instagram, because
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'm not on TikTok, was just Person after person after
- 3:15Speaker 1: person showing these graphic images, which we will also show
- 3:18Speaker 1: to you, but I will blur them out.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Because I've got class.
- 3:21Speaker 2: And it's gross.
- 3:22Speaker 1: It's so gross. But just person after person discussing one
- 3:26Speaker 1: of the elite competitors at this competition who was also
- 3:30Speaker 1: being sponsored by Puma. So like a big sponsorship. And
- 3:34Speaker 1: was Puma also sponsoring the event?
- 3:36Speaker 2: No, I think they were just sponsoring this athlete.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Just the athlete.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Okay.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So she's being sponsored by... puma she is an elite
- 3:43Speaker 1: athlete and she's competing in this event and all i
- 3:47Speaker 1: saw on my timeline were pictures of her competing with
- 3:51Speaker 1: literal fecal matter shit.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Dookie the doodoo doodoo all.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Up and down her legs in the front in the
- 4:00Speaker 1: back the.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Back of her arms in her pussy in her crack.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Honey, it was everywhere. And it wasn't just on her body.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Like that's bad enough. Okay. I'm already going astral. I'm
- 4:10Speaker 1: already needing to be disassociated. But it was also like
- 4:15Speaker 1: on the rowing machines because even though she defecated all
- 4:19Speaker 1: over herself, she continued to participate.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Finish the competition.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah. She finished it.
- 4:23Speaker 2: She won. She finished it. Yeah.
- 4:24Speaker 1: But like she had to get, this is a closed competition.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So it's not like a marathon where you're running 26
- 4:29Speaker 1: miles in the outdoors or you're doing some sort of
- 4:32Speaker 1: mountain trek and you're outdoors and you can go shit
- 4:34Speaker 1: in the woods or whatever.
- 4:35Speaker 2: No, this is an indoor competition that's shared with hundreds
- 4:39Speaker 2: of athletes and also hundreds of staff members that are
- 4:42Speaker 2: in control of the competition. All of the equipment is
- 4:45Speaker 2: shared there. It's not just throwing machines. It's like kettlebells.
- 4:49Speaker 2: It's sandbags. They also have to do burpee exercises on
- 4:54Speaker 2: a carpeted floor in which she had her shit on
- 4:59Speaker 2: the floor.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Do you see where we're going?
- 5:01Speaker 2: Going where she's like got her face down in it
- 5:03Speaker 2: and then other people have to do that and put their.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Because she's again she's an elite athlete so she's at
- 5:08Speaker 1: the front of the pack most people are behind her
- 5:12Speaker 1: correct they're bringing up the rear no pun intended there's
- 5:16Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of that after she does the
- 5:19Speaker 1: rowing machine link there's gonna be countless others who have
- 5:22Speaker 1: to get on that same rowing machine and sit in
- 5:26Speaker 1: her shit Which this is the wild part. And I'm
- 5:29Speaker 1: going to let Beatrice describe what has happened. But like this,
- 5:31Speaker 1: this was the entire controversy.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So on my timeline. So let me just describe my
- 5:35Speaker 1: experience with this.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Okay.
- 5:37Speaker 1: As I'm at home in bed with my velvet covers
- 5:40Speaker 1: over me, like just going through Instagram, like what the
- 5:42Speaker 1: fuck is all this about? Because there were so many
- 5:44Speaker 1: people who had been in Beijing and competed in the
- 5:48Speaker 1: very same event who were like, what the fuck? Because
- 5:52Speaker 1: with high rocks, apparently they're very, very strict. Again, it
- 5:56Speaker 1: is a closed competition. So like if you spit... Or
- 5:59Speaker 1: if you like clear your nose out, snot rocket... You
- 6:02Speaker 1: get a penalty, like a two minute penalty. Or you'll
- 6:05Speaker 1: get disqualified. They do not put up with any of
- 6:08Speaker 1: that nonsense. And so these competitors who were used to
- 6:12Speaker 1: these very strident rules were like, okay, we can't spit...
- 6:17Speaker 1: or like have a snot rub. This woman can like
- 6:19Speaker 1: literally shit all over herself and all of the equipment.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And she continues to be able to participate. So people
- 6:24Speaker 1: were going hog wild. And that's where I picked up
- 6:27Speaker 1: on it. And so let me just throw it over
- 6:29Speaker 1: to Beatrice. She'll start from the beginning. She'll bring you
- 6:32Speaker 1: all up to speed and we'll get there together.
- 6:35Speaker 2: So the athlete in question is named Joanna Wettrick. She's
- 6:39Speaker 2: an Australian competitive athlete and She, for her, to her credit,
- 6:43Speaker 2: she's very skilled at what she does. She trains really,
- 6:46Speaker 2: really hard. And high rocks as a competition is not
- 6:50Speaker 2: necessarily like the Olympics or anything like that, but it
- 6:54Speaker 2: is like a high intensity.
- 6:55Speaker 1: It's like CrossFit, isn't it? Kind of like it's more
- 6:58Speaker 1: of an elevated CrossFit.
- 7:00Speaker 2: It's more of like a high intensity workout type of
- 7:03Speaker 2: a thing. So it's not necessarily CrossFit, but you are
- 7:05Speaker 2: doing some kind of CrossFit exercises, but you're doing like
- 7:07Speaker 2: weight exercises as well. And the whole point of it
- 7:10Speaker 2: is to like do it In a very fast, short timeframe,
- 7:15Speaker 2: Joanna Redtrick actually finished with world records. Um, especially for
- 7:19Speaker 2: the female division, she finished in just under an hour
- 7:23Speaker 2: and you have to do like an eight kilometer run.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And then you have to do several, I think like
- 7:28Speaker 2: eight to 10, um, additional high intensity exercises. One of
- 7:32Speaker 2: them are, is the rowing machine. Some are the burpees,
- 7:35Speaker 2: some are weightlifting, some are running with sandbags on your shoulders.
- 7:39Speaker 2: So like it is a high intensity competition, but it's
- 7:41Speaker 2: not something like the Olympics or in a marathon or
- 7:46Speaker 2: anything like that. It's also unique because it is completely indoors.
- 7:50Speaker 2: All of the athletes are sharing the equipment. A lot
- 7:53Speaker 2: of professional athletes have commented after this incident saying that
- 7:56Speaker 2: they wouldn't have done a high rocks competition in general
- 7:58Speaker 2: because it's kind of grody because you are touching a
- 8:01Speaker 2: bunch of sweaty equipment that everybody else is using and
- 8:03Speaker 2: It's not like it's cleaned in between each athlete.
- 8:06Speaker 1: So it's not cleaned in between.
- 8:07Speaker 2: No, it's not. Okay. Even in general, like before the
- 8:09Speaker 2: shit gate happened, like they don't clean in between. So
- 8:14Speaker 2: it's not necessarily a hygienic course or anything like that.
- 8:19Speaker 2: It's just a high intensity workout thing, competition. So Joanna Wittrich,
- 8:24Speaker 2: high intensity athlete, whatever. She goes, starts this competition about
- 8:28Speaker 2: halfway through. She has bowel incontinence. She suffers bowel incontinence
- 8:33Speaker 2: and it's like pretty severe. She literally shits herself halfway through.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And it's not just like a little bit of dookie
- 8:39Speaker 2: in her pants. It's dookie in her pants, in her
- 8:43Speaker 2: coochie that is literally sliding down her legs all the
- 8:47Speaker 2: way down to the floor. She ends up, doing the
- 8:50Speaker 2: rest of the exercises, somehow gets shit on her arms
- 8:54Speaker 2: and stuff in between that and continues and finishes the race.
- 8:59Speaker 1: But wait, because what I had read on more than
- 9:03Speaker 1: one occasion is that she didn't just shit once. She
- 9:06Speaker 1: shit the first time. but she continued to have bowel
- 9:09Speaker 1: incontinence throughout the rest of her performance.
- 9:12Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that is, yeah. She lost control of her bowels.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And continued to do so. So it's like one thing
- 9:19Speaker 1: to like, shit, oh my God, my bad. Let me
- 9:21Speaker 1: go clean myself up. But it's another thing to continue
- 9:23Speaker 1: and then continue also to shit. So there's fresh shit
- 9:26Speaker 1: coming out at all times.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Well, yeah, that's incontinence. It's like she literally lost control
- 9:30Speaker 2: of it.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Do you know what I'm saying though?
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I'm just trying to make the distinction.
- 9:34Speaker 2: She lost control of her bowels. Gross. And continued to
- 9:36Speaker 2: lose control of her bowels and continued to push through
- 9:38Speaker 2: to finish the competition. And so where the controversy arises.
- 9:43Speaker 1: She won the competition.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Is that she finished knowing that she had shat herself everywhere.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And this is a thing that does happen to high
- 9:51Speaker 2: performance athletes. It's not necessarily an abnormal thing that happens.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It can't happen when your body goes through intense physical stress.
- 9:58Speaker 2: There's nothing to necessarily be ashamed of with that, but
- 10:02Speaker 2: she continued to do this competition, knowing that she was
- 10:04Speaker 2: going to share all of this equipment with all of
- 10:06Speaker 2: the rest of the athletes. And she did so as
- 10:09Speaker 2: kind of a way to like push through a very unfortunate, uh,
- 10:15Speaker 2: incident she had trained really hard for this competition she
- 10:18Speaker 2: wanted to finish it out as did everyone else and
- 10:20Speaker 2: as did everybody else and after she finished it she
- 10:23Speaker 2: posted an instagram story that she since deleted where she
- 10:28Speaker 2: said a win is a win but for real though
- 10:31Speaker 2: like i'm good and i'll talk to y'all later yolo
- 10:34Speaker 2: she didn't apologize she didn't make a statement about it
- 10:38Speaker 2: or anything she posted this instagram story while she was
- 10:40Speaker 2: in a hospital bed So obviously she was getting checked
- 10:44Speaker 2: out because.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Probably IV fluids.
- 10:45Speaker 2: And stuff like that. Yeah, she was having incontinence through
- 10:48Speaker 2: this competition. But she received massive backlash for this because
- 10:53Speaker 2: she didn't have any kind of regard for any of
- 10:56Speaker 2: the other athletes. She didn't apologize for shitting everywhere and
- 10:59Speaker 2: getting shit on the floor and on all of the
- 11:03Speaker 2: equipment that everybody else had to share.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And then get.
- 11:07Speaker 2: shit upon themselves and then get shit upon themselves and
- 11:09Speaker 2: the high rocks competition organizers didn't bother to stop her
- 11:14Speaker 2: while noticing that she was shitting herself and that is
- 11:18Speaker 2: where the real controversy lies because high rocks prior to
- 11:22Speaker 2: this incident like you had mentioned had pretty strict guidelines
- 11:26Speaker 2: about hygiene but their guidelines specifically did not outline the
- 11:32Speaker 2: Hygiene past spitting or like snot coming out of your nose.
- 11:36Speaker 2: They didn't have any guidelines or bio contamination guidelines about
- 11:42Speaker 2: fecal matter about blood or urine or anything like that.
- 11:46Speaker 2: There've actually been reports after this incident of other athletes
- 11:49Speaker 2: saying that it was a known thing at these high
- 11:52Speaker 2: rocks competitions that people would literally pee and leak urine
- 11:57Speaker 2: on the equipment and on the ground and everything. And
- 11:59Speaker 2: nobody said anything about it. So like, this was obviously
- 12:02Speaker 2: like a known issue. High rocks never, um, penalized any
- 12:06Speaker 2: of these other previous athletes for peeing or anything like that,
- 12:09Speaker 2: but they would penalize you. If you spit on the
- 12:11Speaker 2: course or if you had snot coming out of your nose,
- 12:14Speaker 2: they would penalize you with not only a time deduction, um,
- 12:18Speaker 2: with your race, but also with a possible disqualification. If
- 12:21Speaker 2: they thought that your snot was too hygienic, too unhygienic,
- 12:25Speaker 2: but with Joanna Wettrick, they let her finish the course.
- 12:28Speaker 2: They let her finish the race. And they didn't clean
- 12:31Speaker 2: in between. There are reports saying that some of the
- 12:34Speaker 2: competition organizers were cleaning the equipment in between. But then
- 12:38Speaker 2: a lot of athletes who were at that competition allegedly
- 12:40Speaker 2: said that there was no cleaning protocols in between. And
- 12:44Speaker 2: the race was allowed to continue on. Despite this very
- 12:48Speaker 2: disgusting biohazard of literal shit spreading everywhere around all of
- 12:53Speaker 2: these other athletes. And so... After Joanna posted her Instagram
- 12:59Speaker 2: story saying a win is a win, she wasn't apologizing,
- 13:02Speaker 2: people obviously came for her and they were like, what
- 13:04Speaker 2: the fuck, you selfish ass. Oh, what are you doing?
- 13:08Speaker 2: You literally could have gotten so many people sick because
- 13:11Speaker 2: you were so selfish and didn't care about anybody else
- 13:16Speaker 2: but yourself because all you wanted to do was win
- 13:17Speaker 2: even though you had shit running down your legs.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Right, but in her defense... This is a 22-year-old girl.
- 13:26Speaker 2: 24, yeah.
- 13:27Speaker 1: She's young.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Her brain is not fully formed.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Sure.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And also when you're competing athletically, you get into sort
- 13:33Speaker 1: of this zone, this gamma state zone where you're just
- 13:36Speaker 1: really honed in on what you're doing.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And wanting to finish. And so I'm sure that contributed
- 13:42Speaker 1: to her not really thinking about everybody else in the
- 13:46Speaker 1: competition and what she was doing. Personally, though, I can't believe...
- 13:52Speaker 1: that she didn't have any thoughts about what she was doing. She,
- 13:57Speaker 1: at some point, right, she had to make a choice. Yeah. Like, hmm,
- 14:01Speaker 1: I shit my pants. Let me just go to the bathroom.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm going to lose time, but I can clean myself
- 14:05Speaker 1: up and I can come back to the competition and
- 14:07Speaker 1: maybe I'm not going to win or whatever, but like
- 14:09Speaker 1: I can at least clean myself up and not expose
- 14:11Speaker 1: other people to biohazards. She had to make a choice
- 14:14Speaker 1: at some point to continue on and complete this race
- 14:17Speaker 1: with shit smearing all over herself and other people because
- 14:21Speaker 1: they came into contact with the equipment. So that's a choice.
- 14:24Speaker 1: That's a bad choice. Is it a choice that a
- 14:27Speaker 1: younger person who's just got their eye on the prize
- 14:30Speaker 1: might make?
- 14:31Speaker 2: Yes.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I do think we should give her a little bit
- 14:35Speaker 1: of grace as somebody like this is her entire life
- 14:38Speaker 1: and identity is being an elite athlete. That's, this is
- 14:41Speaker 1: what she does. And I'm sure she was in the
- 14:43Speaker 1: zone and I'm sure she's just like, no, I'm going
- 14:45Speaker 1: to be brave. I'm just going to do it anyway.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I'm just going to go for it. Yeah. It's shitty.
- 14:50Speaker 1: but I'm going to go for it. This is what
- 14:52Speaker 1: athletes do. I can see a kid thinking thoughts like
- 14:55Speaker 1: that and not really zooming out and thinking about everybody
- 14:58Speaker 1: else in their experience. So I'm just saying that there's
- 15:02Speaker 1: a difference between her response and the response that High
- 15:05Speaker 1: Rocks ultimately comes out with.
- 15:07Speaker 2: That's the thing. In my opinion, the real responsibility falls
- 15:11Speaker 2: on High Rocks and all of the competition organizers, because
- 15:13Speaker 2: what do you mean? you saw this lady shit all
- 15:16Speaker 2: over herself and you didn't bother to stop her. You
- 15:19Speaker 2: didn't bother to pull her from the competition. Like that
- 15:21Speaker 2: makes no fucking sense to me. It's the responsibility of
- 15:25Speaker 2: the competition organizers to have all of the safety and
- 15:28Speaker 2: health and wellness concerns of all the other athletes in
- 15:31Speaker 2: their forefront. They didn't give a shit, literally. Like they
- 15:34Speaker 2: just took photos of her, multiple photos of her competing
- 15:38Speaker 2: the competition with shit all over her and let her
- 15:40Speaker 2: finish and let her win. That's crazy to me. So
- 15:43Speaker 2: then after this, controversy went viral like literally everybody saw
- 15:47Speaker 2: the photos and they were like what are you kidding
- 15:51Speaker 2: me high rocks released a statement that they have since
- 15:55Speaker 2: deleted and you'll see why after i read this statement
- 15:58Speaker 2: so the statement reads to our community as our sport
- 16:01Speaker 2: continues to evolve we are encountering new and increasingly complex
- 16:05Speaker 2: situations that challenge us and where additional clarity is needed
- 16:09Speaker 2: this happened this weekend in china We ask our athletes
- 16:12Speaker 2: to push themselves to the highest levels. At times they
- 16:15Speaker 2: will go beyond what even we thought was possible. That courage, resilience,
- 16:20Speaker 2: and refusal to give in are precisely what makes elite
- 16:23Speaker 2: athletes so extraordinary. Our role is to give them the
- 16:27Speaker 2: right framework and the right boundaries within which they can compete, perform,
- 16:31Speaker 2: and express themselves at their very best. Hyrox has clear
- 16:35Speaker 2: biocontaminant and medical procedures in place. In this instance, an
- 16:39Speaker 2: unforeseen situation arose in which protocols designed for elite competition
- 16:44Speaker 2: and mass participation became blurred, creating ambiguity in how they
- 16:49Speaker 2: were applied and understood. We recognize that this can understandably
- 16:53Speaker 2: lead to frustration, questions, and strong views within our community.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Those concerns are legitimate, and as organizers, we must be
- 17:00Speaker 2: prepared to hear them, examine what happened, and take responsibility
- 17:03Speaker 2: for continuing to improve. And we will. But there is
- 17:06Speaker 2: an important line. Frustration should never be directed towards the
- 17:10Speaker 2: athlete themselves. They are the people who put themselves on
- 17:13Speaker 2: the line, compete at the highest level, and make competition
- 17:16Speaker 2: what it is. There is no place in our community
- 17:19Speaker 2: for threats of violence or encouragement to harm an athlete.
- 17:22Speaker 2: As this has happened this weekend, we want to be
- 17:24Speaker 2: very clear and direct. Any person identified as engaging in
- 17:28Speaker 2: this behavior, whether through comments, direct messages on social media,
- 17:33Speaker 2: will be permanently banned from all High Rocks events. We
- 17:36Speaker 2: are currently reviewing and identifying those responsible, and action will
- 17:40Speaker 2: be taken. So obviously this statement got a lot of
- 17:44Speaker 2: backlash as well. That's why High Rocks has since deleted
- 17:47Speaker 2: it because there was no apology. There was no acknowledgement
- 17:51Speaker 2: for all of the other people that had to literally
- 17:53Speaker 2: work out with Joanna's shit on their hands and in
- 17:57Speaker 2: their vicinity. And High Rocks also lied about saying that
- 18:02Speaker 2: they had clear biocontaminant protocols in place because they didn't.
- 18:06Speaker 2: They literally had to change their rules and regulations after
- 18:10Speaker 2: this incident to include fecal matter and blood and stuff
- 18:14Speaker 2: like that. And what they had said in their verbiage
- 18:17Speaker 2: was if any of this material becomes evident on the course,
- 18:22Speaker 2: then the competition organizers may be able to remove the
- 18:26Speaker 2: athlete or remove or stop the competition. So they didn't
- 18:29Speaker 2: even really put in there like the competition needs to
- 18:33Speaker 2: be stopped so that way the equipment can be cleaned
- 18:36Speaker 2: or they need to stop for the health and welfare
- 18:38Speaker 2: of all the rest of the athletes. Like High Rocks
- 18:40Speaker 2: very obviously doesn't care about the athletes that are competing
- 18:44Speaker 2: because if they did, they would stop that shit, literally.
- 18:48Speaker 1: No pun intended. And more to... The point is the
- 18:52Speaker 1: fact that they then kind of went on this defense
- 18:56Speaker 1: of the athlete. Like, for those of you who are
- 18:59Speaker 1: saying bad things about her, for those of you who
- 19:02Speaker 1: are making threats to her or whatever, like, I haven't
- 19:05Speaker 1: seen anybody do that. Oh, I have. Oh, you have?
- 19:07Speaker 1: Making direct threats to her? Oh, yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Yeah, people were pissed at Joanna Westrick. Making threats, though?
- 19:12Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, gosh, I haven't seen anything. Personally, I haven't. But, like,
- 19:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't put it past social media at all. Like,
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm not doubting that, but they seemed to be more
- 19:20Speaker 1: concerned in that statement about what people were saying about
- 19:25Speaker 1: this girl and how they were treating this girl as
- 19:28Speaker 1: opposed to like what they actually did really wrong. And
- 19:32Speaker 1: around this time too, we had a lot of photographs
- 19:35Speaker 1: that were coming out from not just, I don't know,
- 19:37Speaker 1: I don't know that High Rocks was releasing pictures of
- 19:40Speaker 1: this girl with crap all over herself, but other participants
- 19:43Speaker 1: were people who were actually there in the building. And
- 19:46Speaker 1: there was a picture that I, I, zoomed in on.
- 19:50Speaker 1: which was of the the staff picking up the mats
- 19:54Speaker 1: where they were doing the burpees cleaning up after her
- 19:57Speaker 1: but like they didn't even have gloves on and a
- 20:00Speaker 1: lot of people said that this was unpaid staff like
- 20:04Speaker 1: these people who were there monitor and to make sure
- 20:07Speaker 1: that everything was happening. These people are unpaid and they're
- 20:10Speaker 1: out there without gloves handling these mats and this equipment,
- 20:13Speaker 1: I would imagine, that has defecation on it. And this
- 20:17Speaker 1: is the professionalism of your organization and you don't have
- 20:21Speaker 1: anything to say about that. You want to kind of
- 20:23Speaker 1: lead with, yeah, but don't talk bad about Joanna and
- 20:26Speaker 1: don't do anything. Don't be aggressive to Joanna and let
- 20:29Speaker 1: it not be unsaid. You shouldn't be making threats, death
- 20:32Speaker 1: threats or being cruel and mean to people online. Like that's,
- 20:35Speaker 1: that's not appropriate. But at the same time, there is
- 20:38Speaker 1: a reason why there is a lot of anger and
- 20:41Speaker 1: there's a lot of reaction from the community and especially
- 20:44Speaker 1: outside of the community. I, I, I don't do high rocks. No.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I mean, I'm kind of an athlete. I walk, I
- 20:51Speaker 1: walk on the street every day.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Oh my God. She's a competitive athlete.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Starting strength training. But like, I, I'm not, I'm not
- 20:56Speaker 1: part of this whole zeitgeist, but at the same time
- 20:59Speaker 1: I can acknowledge when something was mishandled or really badly,
- 21:02Speaker 1: not just the competition, but your response afterward sucked. And
- 21:07Speaker 1: then in the comments of that first post, I was there. Yep.
- 21:10Speaker 1: People were going ham.
- 21:13Speaker 2: People were going off. And so then High Rocks deleted
- 21:15Speaker 2: that statement because it wasn't a good statement, really. And
- 21:18Speaker 2: then they made a second one saying, this actually came
- 21:22Speaker 2: from the co-founder of High Rocks named Moritz Fursti. I
- 21:27Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know how to pronounce his name,
- 21:28Speaker 2: but he said, quote, I need to address all of
- 21:31Speaker 2: you directly concerning the recent events in China. I apologize
- 21:34Speaker 2: to all that were directly or indirectly affected, as well
- 21:38Speaker 2: as to everyone who felt like we did not handle
- 21:40Speaker 2: the situation like we should have. High Rocks made a
- 21:43Speaker 2: mistake by not reacting immediately during the race. In the end,
- 21:46Speaker 2: it is my job to foresee these potential incidences. And
- 21:49Speaker 2: I did not, of course, we started improving event processes,
- 21:53Speaker 2: plus making rule book changes immediately. As of this moment,
- 21:57Speaker 2: there are new rules and procedures in place to prevent
- 21:59Speaker 2: situations like this from happening again. We learn and try
- 22:02Speaker 2: to get better every day. Signed, Mo.
- 22:05Speaker 1: We listen and we do not judge. We listen and
- 22:07Speaker 1: we do not judge. That's what it feels like.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And it's like, you know, I understand. It's a little
- 22:13Speaker 2: bit better. I understand that they didn't obviously predict for
- 22:16Speaker 2: a situation like this to happen. This is definitely the
- 22:20Speaker 2: first time. an incident like this has happened in an
- 22:23Speaker 2: indoor closed competitive athletic race. I mean, they're really like,
- 22:29Speaker 2: this has happened with athletes who have been competing in
- 22:33Speaker 2: multi-mile long marathons, you know, where there's long stretches in
- 22:37Speaker 2: between the athletes. So there isn't like a risk of contamination.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Like marathon runners have totally shit themselves in the middle of.
- 22:46Speaker 1: A marathon before. I wanted to poop on my walk.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Have you shit yourself?
- 22:50Speaker 1: I haven't.
- 22:50Speaker 2: No, but I get it.
- 22:51Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Can relate.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Like it does happen. There's even been incidences in UFC
- 22:57Speaker 2: and boxing fights. Like your daughter's a really big UFC fan.
- 23:01Speaker 2: And so when this came out, she was totally pulling
- 23:03Speaker 2: out all the stops with UFC. There have been UFC
- 23:05Speaker 2: fighters who have shit themselves in the middle of fights.
- 23:08Speaker 2: And they've been allowed to compete, you know, and continue
- 23:10Speaker 2: the fights and stuff like that.
- 23:11Speaker 1: With shit on themselves?
- 23:12Speaker 2: But the difference is with UFC... is that they test
- 23:15Speaker 2: their fighters for any kind of bloodborne pathogens or diseases
- 23:19Speaker 2: that can be transmitted through blood or fecal matter and
- 23:22Speaker 2: stuff like that. So they heavily regulate. Because it's a
- 23:24Speaker 2: contact sport. It's a contact sport. And of course, in UFC,
- 23:28Speaker 2: there's always blood if it's a good fight. And you're
- 23:32Speaker 2: mixing that blood with other fighters. And so they have
- 23:35Speaker 2: to test their fighters for safety. And they do also
- 23:38Speaker 2: call fights when there's too much blood or people have
- 23:41Speaker 2: injured themselves too much. And If there was a situation
- 23:44Speaker 2: where a Joanna Wettrick kind of a fighter had massive diarrhea.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Shit all over the octagon.
- 23:49Speaker 1: I'm shitting all over the octagon.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Shitting. And like had diarrhea on her arms and stuff,
- 23:56Speaker 2: they would totally call that fight and they would clean
- 23:59Speaker 2: the octagon and they would fix that. So there's differences
- 24:02Speaker 2: in how other like competition organizations handle their shit, literally.
- 24:07Speaker 2: High Rocks, Failed completely. They not only failed Joanna, but
- 24:11Speaker 2: they failed all of the other athletes that had to
- 24:14Speaker 2: be in contact with Joanna's diarrhea. And that's the issue
- 24:18Speaker 2: here that I think there's a lot of people that
- 24:20Speaker 2: are making like reels and stuff like really coming for
- 24:24Speaker 2: Joanna and talking about how horrible of a person she
- 24:27Speaker 2: is for not stopping the race. And like, we can
- 24:29Speaker 2: have a conversation about how Yeah, maybe you made the
- 24:32Speaker 2: wrong choice by finishing that out and you didn't have
- 24:35Speaker 2: any regard for the other athletes. But like you had said,
- 24:37Speaker 2: she's a competitive athlete. Athletes in that kind of a
- 24:40Speaker 2: mindset are inherently selfish a little bit because they're thinking
- 24:43Speaker 2: about winning and they don't give a shit about anybody else.
- 24:46Speaker 2: They want to win. They will do whatever they can
- 24:48Speaker 2: to win. People need to be coming for High Rocks.
- 24:51Speaker 1: So let me ask you a question. What would have
- 24:53Speaker 1: been the appropriate response from High Rocks out.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Of the gate? After they let her finish the race?
- 25:02Speaker 2: I would have said, yeah, we're sorry to all of
- 25:04Speaker 2: the athletes that had to compete with Joanna's shit. We're
- 25:09Speaker 2: going to refund all of your High Rocks fees that
- 25:12Speaker 2: you paid to get into this competition. We're also going
- 25:15Speaker 2: to pay for any of your medical care if any
- 25:17Speaker 2: of you guys have like, E. coli infections after this
- 25:21Speaker 2: or staph infections. C.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Diff. C.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Diff. C.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Bo.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Like, if you have any fucking diseases after this, we'll
- 25:27Speaker 2: pay for your medical care. Like, that would have been
- 25:29Speaker 2: more of an appropriate response and more of a considerate
- 25:33Speaker 2: response to the rest of the people that had to
- 25:35Speaker 2: compete with this.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Furthermore, I would say they should have disqualified her or
- 25:39Speaker 1: they should have taken her title away because the fact
- 25:42Speaker 1: of the matter is the people that were bringing up
- 25:44Speaker 1: the rear... several of those people actually DQ'd themselves because
- 25:48Speaker 1: the stench was so foul. I mean, shit smells on
- 25:51Speaker 1: a good day, but for whatever reason, Joanna's shit really
- 25:55Speaker 1: did stink and it stunk up the whole place and
- 25:58Speaker 1: people couldn't actually finish. And that's not fair. There could
- 26:01Speaker 1: have been somebody back there who was like nauseous and
- 26:04Speaker 1: vomiting who could not compete because you shit yourself and
- 26:07Speaker 1: you allowed yourself to smear it everywhere and you should
- 26:10Speaker 1: be DQ'd for that. And some people say she should
- 26:12Speaker 1: be banned for that. I don't agree. I don't feel
- 26:15Speaker 1: like this is a bannable offense, but she shouldn't get
- 26:17Speaker 1: the title to me. What do you think?
- 26:19Speaker 2: I don't think she should have been allowed to continue
- 26:21Speaker 2: the race, period. I think the second that they saw
- 26:23Speaker 2: shit running down her legs, she should have been taken out.
- 26:26Speaker 2: And this is something that happens in the UFC. I
- 26:28Speaker 2: hate to bring it back to that, but it's just
- 26:30Speaker 2: the reference that I have in my mind. If somebody...
- 26:33Speaker 2: has like a medical issue in the UFC they will
- 26:37Speaker 2: disqualify and they will end the fight and they won't
- 26:40Speaker 2: let the fighters continue if somebody looks like they are
- 26:43Speaker 2: having a medical issue and like if you look at
- 26:46Speaker 2: this from an objective lens of her having such severe
- 26:48Speaker 2: bowel incontinence That's a medical issue. She should have been
- 26:52Speaker 2: pulled from the race and then she should have been
- 26:54Speaker 2: taken over to the medical tent.
- 26:55Speaker 1: And so she never would have won in the first place.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 26:57Speaker 1: And that's a really good metric to me. Like what
- 26:59Speaker 1: should you have done in the moment? Well, we should
- 27:01Speaker 1: have pulled her.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Immediately.
- 27:02Speaker 1: And so if you should have pulled her, then you
- 27:04Speaker 1: should consider her pulled now at that point and DQ
- 27:07Speaker 1: her or take away the title.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:09Speaker 1: For like medical reasons. And if you would read through
- 27:12Speaker 1: the thousands upon thousands of comments underneath both of these
- 27:16Speaker 1: posts at the time, people were like, okay, but what
- 27:18Speaker 1: about the title? What about DQing her? What about banning her? Like,
- 27:22Speaker 1: what about all the other people who weren't even able
- 27:24Speaker 1: to finish because she did this?
- 27:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:26Speaker 1: And they seemed very tone deaf in the moment when
- 27:29Speaker 1: dealing with that criticism. They didn't even deal with it
- 27:31Speaker 1: at all.
- 27:31Speaker 2: No, they didn't deal with it whatsoever. And like, they
- 27:34Speaker 2: had a bunch of photographers at the competition that I
- 27:37Speaker 2: could only presume were hired by High Rocks that were
- 27:39Speaker 2: taking photos of this happening. So you knew it was happening.
- 27:43Speaker 2: It's not like She had a little bit of dookie
- 27:45Speaker 2: in her butt. Nobody saw it.
- 27:47Speaker 1: She was prairie dogging.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:51Speaker 2: It was very obvious. And I've seen reports that they
- 27:56Speaker 2: had to not only just clean the equipment that she used,
- 28:00Speaker 2: but they had to throw out the rowing machine. that
- 28:03Speaker 2: she used because it had shit like soiled into the rowing.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Seat like the gears i'm sure yeah all of it
- 28:09Speaker 1: would be smeared they had to throw.
- 28:10Speaker 2: It out you know what i mean like it wasn't
- 28:13Speaker 2: like just a little bit on the on the weights.
- 28:16Speaker 1: And stuff allowed people to sit down on that same
- 28:18Speaker 1: seat and use that machine after she used it it
- 28:21Speaker 1: doesn't even matter if you like wiped it down or
- 28:23Speaker 1: whatever no there is still fecal matter yeah within the
- 28:25Speaker 1: gears within the handles within everything.
- 28:28Speaker 2: And that's what I don't understand about this whole situation.
- 28:30Speaker 2: It's like, why didn't any of the High Rocks competition
- 28:33Speaker 2: organizers do anything about this? Why didn't they clean the
- 28:37Speaker 2: equipment in between? They didn't even do that, you guys.
- 28:41Speaker 2: They didn't even clean the equipment in between. They let
- 28:44Speaker 2: other people. sit on her shitty bum bum rowing seat.
- 28:49Speaker 2: I just don't understand. I don't.
- 28:50Speaker 1: It just seems like common sense to me. And what
- 28:52Speaker 1: it says to me at the end of the day
- 28:55Speaker 1: is this is an unprofessional organization. And based on your
- 28:58Speaker 1: first two PR statements, which were very ill advised, like
- 29:01Speaker 1: you guys ain't shit. I wouldn't trust you to conduct
- 29:04Speaker 1: another event or whatever. I wouldn't pay money to attend.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I just wouldn't be a part of Anything that you do.
- 29:11Speaker 1: And I have seen a few affiliated gyms, High Rocks gyms,
- 29:14Speaker 1: come out and say, yeah, no, we don't want to
- 29:16Speaker 1: be a part of whatever it is that you think
- 29:18Speaker 1: you're doing because the way that you've handled it is terrible.
- 29:20Speaker 1: What you did in the moment was terrible and we
- 29:23Speaker 1: don't agree. And so there's a lot of like affiliates,
- 29:26Speaker 1: professional affiliates that are like, like what the hell? We
- 29:29Speaker 1: do not want to be aligned with that.
- 29:31Speaker 2: There was another statement that I think came out by
- 29:33Speaker 2: High Rocks and I couldn't find like a screenshot of it,
- 29:36Speaker 2: but it said something to the effect of, you know,
- 29:38Speaker 2: we didn't have the rules in place. and so that's
- 29:41Speaker 2: why it was pretty ambiguous because the organizers like please
- 29:44Speaker 2: don't fault them they didn't know what to do in
- 29:47Speaker 2: this unforeseen situation and i'm just like again common fucking
- 29:51Speaker 2: sense it's not like she had snot in her nose
- 29:55Speaker 2: If you penalize for snot, doesn't it stand to reason?
- 29:58Speaker 2: Can't you extrapolate out from there that if snot's not
- 30:02Speaker 2: allowed and saliva's not allowed, literal shit is also not allowed.
- 30:06Speaker 2: I don't understand. What's going on?
- 30:09Speaker 1: But maybe there was just confusion amongst the staff. They
- 30:11Speaker 1: didn't really know. Plus, there was the kid gloves that
- 30:15Speaker 1: they were treating Joanna with because she's this, again, elite athlete.
- 30:20Speaker 1: She's coming in with a high-level sponsorship. And I don't
- 30:24Speaker 1: remember what it was. And so I'm going to be
- 30:25Speaker 1: talking out of my ass a little bit, but I
- 30:27Speaker 1: think High Rocks right now stands at some sort of
- 30:30Speaker 1: a precipice. I don't know if they're going public. I
- 30:33Speaker 1: don't know if they're trying to do something bigger with
- 30:36Speaker 1: the business in general. They're like right at the edge
- 30:39Speaker 1: of doing it. This came at the worst possible time.
- 30:43Speaker 1: So I think they wanted an athlete aligned with Puma.
- 30:47Speaker 1: They wanted that kind of exposure and connection. And they
- 30:50Speaker 1: did it to the detriment of the regular person who's
- 30:54Speaker 1: trying to compete, the me and the you who's been
- 30:56Speaker 1: training all year, walking three miles a day with my dog,
- 31:00Speaker 1: trying to do the High Rocks competition and buying a
- 31:03Speaker 1: flight to Beijing and my hotel and everything. And here
- 31:05Speaker 1: I am competing with somebody shitting all over your course
- 31:08Speaker 1: and you're okay with it though.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Yeah. And I think there, I've seen a couple comments
- 31:12Speaker 2: going around on the internet of people saying that they
- 31:16Speaker 2: thought High Rocks was trying to treat this situation the
- 31:20Speaker 2: same way that um there was an athlete a couple
- 31:23Speaker 2: months ago i think it was in a marathon situation
- 31:26Speaker 2: that while she was finishing the race she got her
- 31:29Speaker 2: period and so she had blood running down her legs
- 31:32Speaker 2: and stuff and so a lot of people were speculating
- 31:34Speaker 2: that hyrox was trying to treat this shit gate situation
- 31:37Speaker 2: as the same as that but the difference is that
- 31:41Speaker 2: A period is normal. Women can't control that. And it's not,
- 31:45Speaker 2: I mean, it's kind of a biohazard, but poop is
- 31:48Speaker 2: normal too. But like that was in a marathon situation. Outdoors.
- 31:52Speaker 2: It was outdoors. So the risk of contamination was extremely low.
- 31:56Speaker 2: And even though she had photos going around of her
- 31:58Speaker 2: starting her period, like people weren't as judgmental about it.
- 32:01Speaker 2: That's a normal human thing, whatever. And so people were
- 32:04Speaker 2: kind of speculating that High Rocks was trying to treat
- 32:07Speaker 2: that as the same situation.
- 32:08Speaker 3: No.
- 32:09Speaker 2: No. It's not the same situation when you have diarrhea
- 32:12Speaker 2: running down both of your legs and other people are
- 32:15Speaker 2: coming in contact with it.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Like, that's just nasty.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Like, are you dumb? Like, are you stupid?
- 32:20Speaker 1: I don't understand.
- 32:21Speaker 2: And so since this, after all this backlash.
- 32:23Speaker 1: So much backlash, guys.
- 32:25Speaker 2: All of this going completely viral across the world. Joanna
- 32:29Speaker 2: Wettrick was silent on Instagram and on social media for
- 32:32Speaker 2: a bit.
- 32:32Speaker 1: For several days.
- 32:33Speaker 2: For several days after she deleted her A Win is
- 32:36Speaker 2: a Win Instagram story. And then since she has released
- 32:39Speaker 2: an official apology that reads, I want to offer my
- 32:43Speaker 2: sincere apology to the people of China, my fellow competitors,
- 32:46Speaker 2: the spectators and the high rocks organizers for what happened
- 32:49Speaker 2: during the race in Beijing. I felt completely fit and
- 32:53Speaker 2: healthy at the start of the race with no reason
- 32:55Speaker 2: to expect any illness. Looking back, I regret the decision
- 32:59Speaker 2: to not have stepped off the track. I recognize that
- 33:02Speaker 2: I should have made a different choice. I take responsibility
- 33:05Speaker 2: for my decision to continue and am deeply sorry for
- 33:08Speaker 2: the discomfort and the disruption it caused. I know my
- 33:11Speaker 2: actions had an impact beyond myself and I am genuinely
- 33:14Speaker 2: sorry to everyone who was affected. I am learning from
- 33:17Speaker 2: this experience and will carry those lessons with me, including
- 33:20Speaker 2: remembering that there is more to life than racing and
- 33:23Speaker 2: knowing when it is the right time to step away.
- 33:27Speaker 2: On reflection, I have decided to retroactively withdraw from the
- 33:30Speaker 2: race and forfeit the points that I earned. Thank you
- 33:33Speaker 2: to those standing by me, both as an athlete and
- 33:36Speaker 2: as a person during this time, and to everyone who
- 33:39Speaker 2: has reached out with kindness and support. It means more
- 33:41Speaker 2: to me than I can properly express right now. I
- 33:44Speaker 2: will be taking some time to recover, reflect, and look
- 33:47Speaker 2: after myself and my family away from the noise. Love, Joe.
- 33:51Speaker 2: And then after this as well, Puma straight up dropped her,
- 33:55Speaker 2: I think, as a sponsor entirely.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I don't know if it was after this. That's actually
- 33:59Speaker 1: kind of a curious point because a lot of people
- 34:02Speaker 1: are speculating that she makes this statement because Puma dropped
- 34:07Speaker 1: her apparel. They had some sort of a collaboration with Joanna,
- 34:11Speaker 1: some apparel thing, merch stuff, and they took it off
- 34:14Speaker 1: their website. And I'm sure there's like PR people, people
- 34:18Speaker 1: in her camp, her management that are telling her like, no,
- 34:21Speaker 1: You need to come back out and you need to
- 34:22Speaker 1: make an actual statement because this is becoming a much
- 34:26Speaker 1: bigger deal. And I think that is, in my opinion,
- 34:30Speaker 1: that is why she comes out with a statement. Was
- 34:32Speaker 1: that today? That was yesterday, today? Yeah. It was very,
- 34:34Speaker 1: very recently. That's very, to me, two things. Number one,
- 34:40Speaker 1: it's a very chat GPT response.
- 34:42Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 34:42Speaker 1: It's a very PR response. Yeah. And I guess that
- 34:46Speaker 1: she wants to be careful and I guess she's probably
- 34:48Speaker 1: running it by... her PR team and okay, I guess,
- 34:52Speaker 1: but like the way she ended it, which is the
- 34:54Speaker 1: second thing that I've got an issue with by referring
- 34:56Speaker 1: to the noise, the noise of social media, I would
- 35:00Speaker 1: assume she means and like the, just the reaction that
- 35:04Speaker 1: she's getting from the general public, as well as the
- 35:06Speaker 1: high rocks community. She's, she's calling it the noise. And
- 35:10Speaker 1: if you go into her comments, I don't know if
- 35:11Speaker 1: they're still up, but they were when I was looking
- 35:13Speaker 1: at them, people were taking issue with her referring to
- 35:15Speaker 1: their legitimate complaints and and criticisms about her choices and
- 35:20Speaker 1: her behavior as well as high rocks as noise, as
- 35:22Speaker 1: something to be dismissed and or to be like gotten
- 35:26Speaker 1: away from. Like it was just kind of a way
- 35:28Speaker 1: to trivialize everybody's concerns. I'm sure she didn't mean to
- 35:33Speaker 1: do that. I'm sure if she knew people would react
- 35:35Speaker 1: that way, she would have phrased it differently. But why though?
- 35:38Speaker 1: That's the thing. It's like, why are you doing it?
- 35:39Speaker 1: Are you doing it because you're losing brand deals? Because
- 35:43Speaker 1: you're now the poopy girl? Yeah. the high rocks, poopy girl.
- 35:46Speaker 1: And that's a bummer. And I actually feel bad about
- 35:48Speaker 1: that for her. Or are you doing it because you
- 35:51Speaker 1: actually thought about it and said, yeah, that really sucked.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I should not have done that. I should not have
- 35:57Speaker 1: exposed all of these people to a literal biohazard that
- 36:01Speaker 1: I was responsible for. That was wrong. Like which was,
- 36:05Speaker 1: which one was the motivation? And I'm not quite sure.
- 36:08Speaker 1: I mean, the cynical part of me thinks she did
- 36:10Speaker 1: it because she's losing brand deals.
- 36:13Speaker 2: I think it's one of those situations where because she
- 36:16Speaker 2: didn't react well after the incident, like immediately after, nothing
- 36:21Speaker 2: she could have really said would have been good enough
- 36:25Speaker 2: after that. And I think because this situation has gone
- 36:29Speaker 2: so viral and people have been so pissed off about it,
- 36:32Speaker 2: rightfully so in a lot of instances, there's nothing she
- 36:35Speaker 2: could really say that would be not subject to scrutiny.
- 36:39Speaker 2: You know, like she... is going to be damned if
- 36:41Speaker 2: she does, damned if she doesn't. And I do feel
- 36:44Speaker 2: bad for some of the really harsh criticism about her because, again,
- 36:49Speaker 2: you can't really help sudden bowel incontinence, especially when you're
- 36:53Speaker 2: a high-performance athlete and you're pushing your body to the limit.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I think a lot of us can't really understand that
- 37:00Speaker 2: happening to us because we're not competing in high rocks competitions.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Like we're not, you are training for it. I should
- 37:08Speaker 2: say me. Um, I'm not competing for a competition. So
- 37:12Speaker 2: I can't understand it, you know, but I do want
- 37:14Speaker 2: to have respect for athletes that do push their bodies
- 37:17Speaker 2: to this kind of a limit where this does happen.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Cause it is a thing that happens. I've seen a
- 37:22Speaker 2: lot of people comment online saying that she did this
- 37:25Speaker 2: on purpose. And I think that that's really ignorant and stupid.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I don't think that she did it on purpose. I
- 37:30Speaker 2: think the thing that she did do on purpose was
- 37:33Speaker 2: continuing the race with shit running down her legs and
- 37:36Speaker 2: all over her arms without a regard for anybody else
- 37:39Speaker 2: around her. Like I said earlier, you know, when you're
- 37:41Speaker 2: a competitive athlete, you know, you kind of are in
- 37:44Speaker 2: a selfish mindset. You are just wanting to focus on
- 37:46Speaker 2: the prize and focus on the goal. And that's probably
- 37:49Speaker 2: what happened. She was kind of just single-minded, focused on
- 37:54Speaker 2: one thing and, you know, didn't even think about the
- 37:58Speaker 2: repercussions or think about the ramifications that she was putting
- 38:01Speaker 2: other people through. I think High Rocks was the failure here.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Yeah, there's the bigger brunt of responsibility. I do want
- 38:07Speaker 1: to say, though, that I respect that Joanna has forfeited
- 38:12Speaker 1: her win.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:14Speaker 1: I don't know if there was a monetary prize that
- 38:16Speaker 1: was assigned to this competition. And if there was, does
- 38:19Speaker 1: that mean that she's going to be returning the money?
- 38:21Speaker 1: What does that mean for the person who came in second?
- 38:24Speaker 1: Does that mean that they are now the person who
- 38:26Speaker 1: holds the title? I don't know, but it seems like
- 38:28Speaker 1: she's trying to do the right thing. And I think
- 38:30Speaker 1: that that's important to note. For sure.
- 38:33Speaker 2: And then High Rocks, I guess, did come out today
- 38:37Speaker 2: saying that they were going to give full refunds to everybody.
- 38:41Speaker 2: This is an article from the South China Morning Post
- 38:43Speaker 2: where they said, High Rocks China has given full refunds
- 38:48Speaker 2: to competitors affected by last weekend's incident in Beijing. while
- 38:52Speaker 2: the global governing body has updated its rulebook to allow
- 38:55Speaker 2: race directors to remove athletes if they pose a risk
- 38:58Speaker 2: to the hygiene of the event. So they did change everything.
- 39:03Speaker 2: They are giving people refunds, which is good.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Yeah, well, what I saw was they were giving refunds
- 39:08Speaker 1: to people who competed at a certain time, and that
- 39:10Speaker 1: time is specifically tied to the folks that were competing
- 39:14Speaker 1: when Joanna was and behind Joanna. So I think they
- 39:18Speaker 1: took a period of time. And they said, if you
- 39:20Speaker 1: were competing from like 240 to 640 or something like that,
- 39:23Speaker 1: then you can get a refund. To me, I would
- 39:26Speaker 1: refund everybody. I would give everybody back their money.
- 39:29Speaker 2: I would.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Have already taken away Joanna's title. I would have, as
- 39:33Speaker 1: High Rocks, made that administrative decision to do that just
- 39:36Speaker 1: to be fair to absolutely everybody.
- 39:38Speaker 2: And you should probably also compensate the workers that had
- 39:41Speaker 2: to clean all of that literal shit up with no
- 39:44Speaker 2: gloves because you didn't provide the organizers any gloves or Hygiene.
- 39:48Speaker 1: Guidance or guidance. It's terrible. It's an awful situation for Joanna.
- 39:53Speaker 1: She should have handled herself differently. I'm sure in the
- 39:56Speaker 1: future she absolutely will. But as it concerns high rocks,
- 39:59Speaker 1: I just feel like it's a very corporate response. They
- 40:03Speaker 1: waited until the backlash was at a fever pitch before
- 40:06Speaker 1: they offered to give anybody their money back. Even though
- 40:08Speaker 1: I think they're worth like $ 83 million or something like that.
- 40:11Speaker 1: There's like a big multimillion dollar corporation. You should have
- 40:14Speaker 1: done the right thing right out of the gate. You
- 40:17Speaker 1: chose not to do it. And in fact, your co-founder
- 40:19Speaker 1: was pretty defensive. And in the comments, because I was
- 40:21Speaker 1: in the comments at the time, he was being pretty
- 40:24Speaker 1: snarky to people who were calling him to the carpet. Like,
- 40:26Speaker 1: are you going to DQ her? Like, what are you
- 40:28Speaker 1: going to do in the future? And he was being
- 40:30Speaker 1: pretty combative. Like he's just doesn't have media training and
- 40:34Speaker 1: that's unfortunate. And I do just want to say one
- 40:36Speaker 1: more thing before we wrap up, which is that people
- 40:38Speaker 1: like me who again, I'm not a High Rocks participant.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I'm not an elite athlete.
- 40:43Speaker 2: I thought you said you were.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Well, whatever. Okay. But like people like me or you,
- 40:46Speaker 1: like we find this on our timeline because there's a
- 40:48Speaker 1: furor that's happening in the zeitgeist around this particular story.
- 40:52Speaker 1: People like us flooding into comment sections, whether it's High
- 40:55Speaker 1: Rocks or Joanna and like demanding apologies and disqualifications and refunds.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Like it's not, really our apology to receive. We weren't
- 41:05Speaker 1: the participants. We weren't in Beijing. And yeah, that's fucked up.
- 41:09Speaker 1: And yeah, we can all sit here in the dumpster
- 41:10Speaker 1: and agree that that was handled badly. Like, ooh, that's
- 41:13Speaker 1: a bad look for High Rocks. But like to go
- 41:15Speaker 1: into comment sections, not that any of us would, and
- 41:18Speaker 1: just demand apologies for stuff. Like as people on social media,
- 41:22Speaker 1: I feel like we need to stop doing that.
- 41:23Speaker 2: For real.
- 41:24Speaker 1: And it's never good enough anyway. Even if you try
- 41:27Speaker 1: to give the best apology possible and be as honest
- 41:30Speaker 1: and authentic as As you can be, there's going to
- 41:32Speaker 1: be some harpy out there or some dude out there
- 41:35Speaker 1: who's just not going to accept your apology. It's not
- 41:37Speaker 1: for you, honey.
- 41:38Speaker 2: How does it affect you personally?
- 41:39Speaker 1: It doesn't affect you at all. Just come on now.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Like, chill out. You can have an opinion for sure.
- 41:45Speaker 2: But like, it's not your personal issue.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Were you there?
- 41:49Speaker 2: You weren't there. You were on your couch eating Doritos.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Well, I was walking. I did have to poop. Well,
- 41:56Speaker 1: this was like, for me, I was entertaining.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Oh yeah, me too.
- 42:00Speaker 1: I was sitting in my bed in my velvet blankets,
- 42:02Speaker 1: just like, I'm obsessed with what's happening with these athletes
- 42:07Speaker 1: out there.
- 42:07Speaker 2: It's pretty extreme, yeah.
- 42:09Speaker 1: But we all shit and that's a fact.
- 42:11Speaker 2: Everybody poops.
- 42:12Speaker 1: And women, we have our periods, not all women, but
- 42:14Speaker 1: like women, this happens to us. This is part of
- 42:16Speaker 1: bodily functions. It is. I just can't imagine being Joanna
- 42:19Speaker 1: and having to deal with this for the next few years, probably.
- 42:21Speaker 1: It's going to become part of your identity, but you
- 42:23Speaker 1: know what? Just roll with it, babe.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Now you're Miss... Shitty McDoodoo poopoo pants.
- 42:28Speaker 1: From Australia.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Australia.
- 42:30Speaker 1: The wonderful country that gave us Raygun. Thanks, guys. Well,
- 42:34Speaker 1: is there anything else that we want to say to
- 42:36Speaker 1: these beautiful raccoons before we get up on out of here?
