There was some fun nuggets that we talked about then. We'll get into some new stuff this week, as well as ⁓ handful of grip of trailers that we're gonna cover. I just want to double check that. Yeah. You heard the intro music, yeah. jesus: Ha ha Say what? Yeah, I did hear it, yeah, for sure. Nolan: Okay, just wanna make sure, you know, because the new UI that's going on with the the application. I just want there's no like preview and live button for the music anymore. So it's like I press play and it's just praying to the Lord above that it's actually coming through the the headphones. You know what I mean? ⁓ all right. Righteous, righteous. Okay. So starting off, we're gonna get into it. Sharing my screen, bing bang boom. jesus: No, it does. It does. A hundred percent. Hundred percent. Hundred percent. You're good. Nolan: Little bit of ⁓ you know, some ⁓ some pain for some movies and some glory for others. ⁓ last weekend scary movie six premiered as well as Masters of the Universe. Now starting off on the latter half of that, Masters of the Universe did open to only fifty-four point three million worldwide. ⁓ on a budget of nearly 200, which means the marketing in included and it's probably boosting that up to a break-even point of like four four four twenty-five, maybe four hundred, four hundred thirty million, who knows? ⁓ lot of VFX. They did a lot of marketing. I'm gonna give it ⁓ give them a hand because they really tried to push this. ⁓ I just want to know your take on this Jalen because as far as I know I I'll I'll cross reference this. ⁓ jesus: Somewhere in there. Lot of VFX in that one. Lot of VFX. Nolan: The movie did not get bad reviews. And this was a movie that, you know, kind of is I would say jump starting the summer blockbuster season. And this was something that has a 68 on critic rating and an 87 on audience rating. So by no means is this movie a bad movie. Apparently, this movie Yeah. Yeah, this is this. Yeah. Yeah. jesus: It's not like people hate it, you know? It's not like there's a zero percent rating on the the critics or the fans score, right? It could be worse. Nolan: This is definitely a movie that is enjoyable for the audiences. ⁓ critics here far and wide seem to you know, majority enjoyed the movie, liked it. ⁓ but this is this is setting a a track for them to not reach their break even point. ⁓ what do you what are your thoughts on this? A movie that, you know, is it just because it's the the IP is too far out of its time? Is it because maybe the marketing just didn't play to exactly what they were supposed to? What do you what are your thoughts on this? jesus: Think so. I think it's it's just an IP that's just too old, man. You know what I mean? Like it's like it's if this movie came out maybe in the twenties like when we were in college, right, in the twenty sixteens, twenty fifteens era, twenty tens, right, maybe, maybe, right, 'cause there was some pull for that kind of stuff back then. I just feel like that Nolan: Yeah, yeah. jesus: at this point in twenty twenty six no one really cares about He Man. Anybody that does is well into their adulthood and has like grandchildren probably, like at this point, you know what I mean? so it's just yeah, I think the I P might just be a little bit too cooked. I think like Nolan: Yeah, yeah. jesus: Especially when you get into like the eighties and late like the late seventies, early eighties type of cartoons and animation and those IPs, like we're kinda too far gone. We're barely too far gone for the nineties IPs, like Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers and those kinds of things. but yeah, I just I think this IP is just a little too a little too far. A little too far away for most people to really gravitate and connect and understand how crazy that world is unless you're like just a absolute sweat lord, you know? Nolan: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, no, absolutely. And ⁓ when you and I can and we'll get to the the former half of that post. ⁓ Scary Movie Six, you know, ⁓ it made a hundred and twenty-one million thus far worldwide. ⁓ a hundred and twenty one million compared to where we're looking at at Masters of the Universe. regardless of what the critic rating was, the audience rating was, whether you thoroughly enjoyed the film or not, this money this money came in and it it won its its budget, I would say. ⁓ your thoughts on that were we you know, we we've been very divisive on where we lie with this. We loved the old school scary movie one and two, how that humor kind of really just kinda jabbed the culture, ⁓ the this pop culture, I guess you could say. And now we're looking at s ⁓ scary movie six. twenty five years removed from the first installment coming out and it's made a hundred and twenty one million. Comedies nowadays rarely reach that pinnacle. You know what I mean? ⁓ and it's still going. It's it's only in the second weekend it's starting this that as of this recording. ⁓ what are your thoughts on that? jesus: Pretty lit. Shout out to the return of some comedy, man. Like we were kinda asking for that and here we are. So sounds like there is definitely an appetite of kinda getting back to like less PC, less you know, everybody's got, you know, big sharing feelings and whatnot, and we're just gonna say some stuff that's really funny and probably a little bit offensive and kinda just roll with it, you know. ⁓ if you don't like it, you don't have to watch the movie, Matt, and you can just move it along and say it's not for you and not ruin it for other people. So yeah, I think that's just kind of the the progress of what we needed to have happen happened with this movie. So there we go. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. Right on. Right on. I dig that. ⁓ but yeah. Did scary movie deserve to get knocked down a peg? You know, let us know what you think. Next news nugget. Obsession. It has broken yet another record. And this record is not necessarily anything too crazy, ⁓ by any standards, but Nonetheless, you gotta give it its flowers. On its twenty-fifth day, it has outperformed some of the highest growthing grossing movies of all time. ⁓ I believe as of last weekend, its fourth weekend, it made twenty-five million. ⁓ that is insane for something coming out in its fourth weekend. ⁓ I believe that the as you can see in the article title here. Beat out things like Avengers Endgame as well as The Force Awakens, two of the top five most highest grossing films domestically. ⁓ Jalen, your thoughts on obsession. Now I have seen it. And I am actually really stunned at how performative this movie is. Com like you the way they they use subtle, ⁓ there's not necessarily like jump scares, but the way they use the subtle intensifying moments, the way they use the shadows in the darkness, and how they kind of use just like the the thought of not necessarily not necessarily anything physically formed as supernatural, but the thought that this is kind of like an everyday. currents in a sense. ⁓ what do you think about this as how it's gone? jesus: Yeah. I mean, kudos to the movie, man. ⁓ the I can't these young guns are coming in hot and they're coming out swinging, it seems like. They're like they're ready to go. So congrats to the film, congrats to all the people that worked on the film. So that's set production, the crew, the director, the actors, obviously everybody involved, because it's very, very difficult to do things like this in Hollywood in a in a in the modern climate. So I I think there's needs to be credit where credit is due. They did a phenomenal job. Beating something like Endgame with a big IP where you're just this little rinky dink indie movie. You know what I mean? Like that is monumental. That's a thing that's probably not gonna happen at least within our lifetime again, I would guess, to be honest. so yeah, what a what a time to be alive and to witness that and well done to everybody involved. Well done. Extremely well done. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. No, side note, there was I didn't put it as a a main topic today, but there was something that did come out recently about one of the ⁓ I don't know if it was necessarily a production crew member, ⁓ but kind of filing a I don't want to say a grievance, maybe it wasn't necessarily a lawsuit, but some sort of like appeal in a sense, ⁓ where they they're looking at it as they wanted to get kind of a after the film bonus for how it per performed. Like and this was a movie that I believe was not made under union standards just based off of the budget and things like that. Not like they did anything illegal. I promise you that. ⁓ but ⁓ it was this a th ⁓ article that came out where the person was just saying like, Hey, we think like jesus: Mm-hmm. Nolan: Now that there is a precedent for this, like should there be any sort of like back end pay, like where, you know, we kind of get bonuses based off of how this movie performed? If it's a film made for seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars and you make over two hundred million, is it in the rights of the crew to ask for maybe some some little, you know, sprinkles on top of what they just can? Yeah. jesus: A thousand percent it is. Yeah, that's what Tom Cruise was like. That's why he like kinda revolutionized movie star contracts back in the days. That was something that he started. So like I think it's well within, you know, the rights of the actors and crew to ask for that. Especially like again, if you're making it for dirt ⁓ nothing in the time and you've got to grind and make that sacrifice to get the movie made and then it ends up doing crazy numbers, yeah, you should be getting the back end of that because you know that like during the time of filming you weren't gonna get paid a ton, but you knew if it hit it could, you know, have a long end. Nolan: Yeah, yeah. jesus: payoff. So there's there's like a career stability argument there. There's like a you know a family security argument to be made there as well, ⁓ for all that kind of stuff 'cause everybody there has a family that they're probably trying to take care of with while they're working and that's what this is what they're doing with movies and all that kind of stuff. So yeah. Nolan: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. ⁓ as before we move on, it's also good to note she didn't attack the directors in the production comp or the the studio or anything like that. She was just saying she was she was requesting, like, hey, you know, throw me some scraps, dog. Come on, let me let me let me get a little let me get a little skin, dog. ⁓ jesus: No, no, it's just saying hey. Nolan: But yeah, I I'm in agreement with you. I think that there there should be some sort of ⁓ like after the after the fact be like, hey, you guys did phenomenal in helping bring this to life. You're just a part of everybody that was on the screen as it was before behind the screen. ⁓ so good on ya. ⁓ next news nugget, Jalen. It's happening, Jalen. ⁓ twenty four jump street is in the works. now let's let's first jesus: I did see that the other day. Nolan: give out some real stuff first. No one has signed on yet. So Jonah Hill, Channing Channing Tatum, Ice Cube have not signed on to return yet, but they are in talks. ⁓ from my understanding, they are having Jonah Hill co write this film. ⁓ and they are saying that it's called Twenty Four Jump Street because Just kind of playing on the little jab on it, like took too long to do 23, so we're just gonna skip that one and go to 24 Jump Street, which I think is marketing hilarious. I I I love that idea. Yeah. ⁓ but here we are. We're getting two ⁓ two actors potentially c returning for this that are absolutely like key to the success of this next installment if it comes out. ⁓ jesus: That is also very funny. Yeah. Nolan: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, I don't ⁓ for separately, their comedic timing is fantastic. Combined their chemistry and how they play off of each other was what made 21 and 22 Jump Street absolutely sing. Throw an ice cube in that, throw in a lot of his his nuances and how he's he is nowadays and his movies. I think this is gonna be fantastic for them. ⁓ but I do wanna get your thoughts. Do you think that this film, if everyone's signed on, everyone returns to it, they get everything rolling. Does this movie have a chance to reignite the flame of what their first two films had? jesus: ⁓ a hundred percent. Like I said, these two to ga these two guys together are awesome. Like that's why the first two movies work and that's why they're so amazing and so funny. Like they when they're when they're in the same vicinity, like their timing was just impeccable. ⁓ and also the first one really kinda got Channing Tatum out into the world as more of a comedic talent because initially like nobody really thought about him that way like as an actor and then he does twenty one jump street and everyone's like, ⁓ he's got those kind of chops, I guess, huh? ⁓ so he's not just the ⁓ the dance guy anymore. So that was ⁓ very cool to see it's especially back in the day. And the second one I felt like we did a really good job of just kind of doing what the first one did really well, but then they added so many layers of kind of like levity and the messaging about like real friendship and like what you go through and all those changes and that kind of stuff. ⁓ that was really good. So I think if they keep kind of that same Nolan: Yeah, yeah. jesus: theme of like knowing what works and then adding some kind of new wrinkle or like new kind of theme to this new third installment for sort of for this particular relationship with these two actors and these these two characters. It's gonna be absolutely phenomenal. But I will say I don't think this works if they're gonna do like Jonah Hill comes back but then Channing Tatum can't or vice versa where Channing Tatum can go and but like Jonah Hill can't. And if Jonah Hill's writing it they I mean I I doubt that they would have greenlit it if they weren't gonna get both of the actors back at a Nolan: Yeah, I agree. I I have a feeling jesus: minimum. Ice cube I could see being a like a fifty-fifty. Like you could probably get away with not having ice cube and you know. Nolan: else has he got going on? We saw how his ⁓ what was it World of the World film did? I I don't think he's he's fighting for work right now. ⁓ but jesus: Yeah. Nolan: Yeah, I'm in agreement though. I d I do think like if it's only one of the two that actually decides to sign on, I'm pretty sure Jonah Hill's just gonna scrap it. Like there's there's no way I mean, ironically, it's probably gonna be Jonah Hill that agrees to come back, but only under the terms that Channing is there as well. ⁓ I yeah, I definitely could see them just shelving the whole thing if they can't get both of them. ⁓ my last question for you regarding this topic though. Now we know how the first two films and the the whole plot device of what twenty one jump street as a whole is. Are they doing undercover work like they did in the first two? High school and then college, respectively. What is the setting this time, Jalen? jesus: say they did high school, they did college. I think this might just be more like they could probably do like stock standard FBI work, I would I would say. 'Cause it's kind of hard to go as they get older to keep going back to like the school setting. Yeah, that'd be a really, really, really old looking eighteen year old or whatever. ⁓ or twenty year old, I guess. ⁓ so yeah, I think there's still a route to go for sure. I think I'll probably just be more like Nolan: They're both in their forties, you know what I mean? Like jesus: some kind of crazy they're underqualified situation to be in for the undercover work, but they just get this reputation or something like that and they get thrown in there. ⁓ they'll figure something out to make it work. But yeah, I don't I don't think necessarily like a a school or a college setting again will be where we're going. Could be yeah, it could be like some maybe some of that, some like Wolf on Wall Street kinda espionage thing or something. Nolan: It would be like a white collar corporate office setting? Could they could they completely bash it over the head and like send them undercover to play for like a professional sports team? Cause I mean he'd played college football in like the in the f second film. So like what if they just put him on like this professional football team, like Jonah Hill's coming in as a punter and then Channing Tatum can just do his thing as like the athlete, the real athlete of the two. ⁓ I don't know. That's just thoughts, just some spitting, some ideas out there. But ⁓ jesus: That would be hilarious. Yes. Yes. Nolan: Yeah, let us know what you guys think in the comments down below. Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube potentially returning for this third installment of 24 Jump Street. And ⁓ where do you want to see them go undercover? ⁓ next news nugget. California as well as New York are in talks of challenging the Paramount Warner Brothers deal. ⁓ You know, we thought we were done. We thought we were out of the woods talking about this thing, Jalen, but here we are once again. ⁓ they're trying to block it just because of the the fact that it would create lesser competition for what can be made in Hollywood. ⁓ and we've talked about this like in the the precedent before that is Disney getting the rights to or buying out twenty ⁓ twenty first century Fox, right? ⁓ and here we are. jesus: Unbelievable. Mm-hmm. Nolan: You know, this is gonna be like completely shelving everything into two majority stakes in when it comes to Hollywood. And it seems like the states are trying to to battle against it. I believe there's also something where the the UK is also trying to fight against this deal as well. ⁓ Jalen, your thoughts on this where we're getting governments involved to try to stop this thing from happening. Is it gonna go through? jesus: I mean it might go through, for sure. I mean it again there's precedent to be made because of Disney and I just don't see a world where like they're not gonna say it's the same thing and Disney kinda got away with it, but they're probably not gonna let Paramount get away with it. ⁓ but there's also the other side of like, well if Disney got away with it, then why don't we get to get away with all of it? ⁓ and those kinds of things. But I I if I'm me if I'm picking one option, I think it's probably gonna get blocked. ⁓ And all those kinds of things, 'cause it would monopolize a lot. ⁓ and currently because of good old ⁓ Daddy Trump doing what he's doing, the owner paramount and all those kinds of things and what the goal of it w a would actually be. ⁓ no, I d I don't see I'm hoping that we don't see that just somebody just caving to to submitting that ⁓ in the course system at all. We'll see what happens. But yeah, that's a that's a big concern if it does go through. Nolan: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I mean if it doesn't go through, like Netflix can just slide back in there like we'll take you for cheaper. We'll we'll we'll be back in we'll put we'll be back in the game, you know what mean? The Tao Bang. ⁓ but yeah, I'd there's a world where this goes through and Hollywood is shifted forever. ⁓ I'm hoping that's not what happens, but it it's it's getting closer and closer. ⁓ jesus: There you go, we'll take it for cheaper. Dow Bang. Nolan: And I believe that there are some conditions set in where like if the deal doesn't officially go through by October, ⁓ Paramount is l legally obligated to pay out the shareholders. I think it was like upwards of like six million a month once it once ⁓ once that October date hits. ⁓ so it'll be kinda interesting. Netflix already got paid. Everything's gonna be good for them, but this is gonna be quite the battle for them. And I'm intrigued to see, but let us know down in the comments below what you guys think. Do you want this deal to go through? Do you want it to just kinda shift, sit down, relax, take a back seat? ⁓ let us know. Next news nugget. Last news nugget of the day, Jalen. ⁓ some bad news. ⁓ this is anything but sweet liberty. ⁓ Jason Momoa has exited the Sony Helldivers movie. ⁓ look, Helldivers, insane concept. I've played it for a good minute. Jalen's still playing it nowadays. It has continued to grow and make its its its presence felt. ⁓ and it's a fun IP. I'm not gonna deny that. Even though I don't play it anymore, I can't deny that. They w they it got your blood boiling. ⁓ But jesus: Unfortunate. It's a good time defending defending freedom and democracy. Nolan: Defending freedom. ⁓ but we talked about when the first announcement came out that Jason Momo was joining this this movie. ⁓ he would have fit in perfectly for what this film's atmosphere would have been. Like the way he he acts, the way his physicality, this would have been like hand, glove fit. jesus: Yeah, for sure. Nolan: Unfortunately, he has exited the franchise. ⁓ it didn't say why, is it unknown reason? I'm assuming it's probably because of scheduling conflicts. It may have been something where now he's tied up with a lot more things. It's unfortunate. Jalen. Two questions. One. Who would you like to see replace him as the lead guy in this film? And two If they can't find someone that's of the same stature as Jason Momoa, is this thing going to get greenlit? jesus: I don't know if it'll stay greenlit. I think the game's in kind of a weird spot right now too from like community feedback ⁓ sentiments right now. So it's it's a bit of a weird time to be pushing for a Helldivers movie, with the game being in kind of a a little bit of a testy water state. ⁓ but as far as somebody to replace Jason Momoa and like bring what he could have brought to whatever they were gonna do in this movie, that's Nolan: Okay. Mm. jesus: Kind of a hard hard sell, man. I honestly don't really know off the top of my head. I I think immediately maybe like a Chris Pratt angle would be fun. ⁓ 'cause he can kind of weave in some more layers to a performance that I think maybe Jason Omoa couldn't quite do and still do with all the charisma and all that kind of stuff. but that's like the first one immediately that comes out of my head. Glenn Powell's obviously red hot. I think this is definitely a something so corny and up his alley that he could probably knock out and be fine. Nolan: Yeah. jesus: Those are the those would be the immediate thoughts in my head of like who to call and replace Jason Momoa for like the Helldivers movie. So Yeah. Nolan: Mm. Any thoughts? Getting Jack Black in there. jesus: Jack Black would be a shout. I I think that would be hilarious to see Jack Black in a Helldivers movie. Nolan: Like in my head, and I don't know if this is like too on the nose, if you take all four characters from the live action Jumanji or not the current Jumanji movies and put them in to Helldivers, would that not be a a solid squad to have for this film? You kind of got like the stoic rock in there. You got the the jesus: I mean that's that's a shout as well. We just take the Jumanji crew and throw ⁓ in there. Nolan: Kinda like timid, Kevin Hart not knowing what to do, and Jack Black's just like the whole time. And then Karen Gillen's just there to like to offset their their crazy testosterone built stuff. ⁓ But yeah, I'm I'm I'm I'm a little worried for the film because this is definitely something that I would go out and watch because it's just so bananas. ⁓ jesus: Just Jack Black, yeah. Yeah. Nolan: But it is difficult to to now imagine this movie without someone like Jason Momo. So I am hoping that they find the right person. I am hoping they find something to really kinda hang their hat on for this. ⁓ I think that this is a movie that you can do gratuitous cameos for no reason and just have them off immediately, 'cause that would be like just the funnest thing in the world. Like you just throw in Tom Cruise and randomly he just gets dropped in and immediately Or something like that and then just have someone else feeling. I I don't know, but this is definitely a film I'm looking forward to. So I am holding out some hope. ⁓ but we'll figure that out as we kind of move forward with this pre-production. ⁓ moving on to our trailer review section. We got a g grip of them. Nothing crazy, but some fun stuff that we did notice. First one, ride or die. Hannah Waddington, Octavia Spencer, ⁓ two fantastic actresses. Octavia Spencer, clearly a fantastic actress. Hannah Waddington, ⁓ more known from Game of Thrones as well as ⁓ her Ted Lasso days. ⁓ Fantastic actress. She's gotten a lot of notoriety since then, and she's really built something for herself. This is a movie that's gonna be releasing on Amazon Prime. sorry, Prime Video, Prime Streaming, whatever you want call it. ⁓ it is about two friends who reconnect after so many odd years. Hannah Waddington is actually a spy, and then of course, ⁓ Octavia Spencer is someone that's being hunted down, so I guess their reunion was not necessarily, you know, all just for friendship. It was so that Hannah Waddington could protect. protect her longtime friend from the forces of evil that are impending on them. ⁓ Jalen, your thoughts on this trailer? jesus: Absolutely phenomenal trailer. ⁓ ten out of ten. Looks interesting. ⁓ I'm definitely definitely interested to see what that looks like. And I'm glad it's coming out on Prime. ⁓ it's not like a theater release or anything, but ⁓ definitely one I'm interested in watching whenever it drops, 'cause it looks very, very funny. Very much has those same vibes as the ⁓ the the one with that had the ⁓ it was ⁓ god, what were the two actresses? It was Sandra Bullock and Nolan: Yeah. jesus: The bigger gal. I can't remember her name off the top of my head. Melissa McCarthy, yeah. Heat. Yeah, it was like heat vibes to that kind of stuff. Like when Melissa McCarthy was on her like big run of movies and stuff. So it just kinda felt like that was another vibe they could do with this combo. so I yeah, I love I love the fact that they're kinda going back to that and tapping in a little bit more of that style of comedy 'cause it's it's really fun when it works. So good on them. Looks fun. I had a great time watching the trailer, thought it was hilarious for sure. Nolan: ⁓ Melissa McCarthy. ⁓ heat? ⁓ is that heat? jesus: Cannot wait to see it drop. Nolan: Right on. Right on. The next trailer that we're reviewing today, Heart of the Beast. Now, one, it's Brad Pitt, come on. And two, it's got a dog. Come on. Though that's two recipes for a successful movie. You got the you got the heart throb that is bad Brad Pitt, and then you got the heart throb that is a dog being a main character in a film. ⁓ jesus: What a movie. It's Brad Pitt. It's it's Bread Pitt. Beautiful German Japan. Nolan: Yeah, but it is ⁓ a ⁓ a former veteran or not former, I guess he is a veteran. A veteran from ⁓ who's been to war, and his companion, his dog, his you know, I guess you could say his his friend, but ⁓ let's say it's it's family. ⁓ who went through the war with him and they're both kind of just exploring, being those like outdoorsy camping adventurous types together, still suffering from PTSD as you can see in the trailer. ⁓ and then they get on a plane ride and unfortunately their plane goes down and it's a matter of the dog Helping him survive as now he's wounded and they get into some running with nature, ⁓ the environments, wolves, things of such. ⁓ and it looks like it's just a a long adventure, I don't want to say a buddy cop, of two family members together fighting the odds and coming out unscathed, ⁓ hopefully unscathed. But Jalen, your thoughts on Heart of the Beast trailer. Directed by David Eger. jesus: I mean it the trailer is literally just y here's Brad Pitt, here's the dog, here's the adventure, and that's that's all you really need to know. Like I don't think like plot wise it's gonna go crazy deep at all, but I mean it's it is what it is. If you're into a good Brad Pitt emotional roller coaster of a adventure film, then here you go. So if you're a dog person, this one's definitely for you. Go check it out and have a good time. Nolan: Also starring J.K. Simmons. But yeah, this is this is one of those films that, you know, ⁓ the context of the film may not give it, you know, its box office boost. But maybe Brad Pitt and The Love of Dogs will kind of give you a little bit of a little a little flavor. ⁓ it is releasing in theaters on September twenty-fifth of this year. ⁓ so we are hoping that this is a film that does really well because, you know, Brad Pitt's been doing some fun stuff lately on screen and he seems to finally be jesus: Maybe. Nolan: Doing a film that's more artsy than just kind of fun, like he did Bulletrain and things like that. You know, this is gonna be something more exciting for not exciting, more more depth for him. next trailer review, Jalen. The Dog Stars. Now, this is a interesting movie, ⁓ based off of a novel from 2012, ⁓ starring Jacob Alordy, Margaret Qually, ⁓ James Roland. No, Josh Brolin, sorry. James's dad. Josh Brolin. ⁓ Guy Pierce, Benedict Wong. This is gonna be a fun film of another dog and his owner. But this time it's a post-apocalyptic world. ⁓ not zombies. It looks like it's just barbaric people who are crazy and want to, you know, either kill you, maybe eat you, or take everything that you own and leave you for dead. ⁓ Jalen, this trailer, what did you think? jesus: Very good. ⁓ I I was glad I didn't get like zombie vibes 'cause I feel like we've kind of in the last fifteen years we've we beat it over the head with the zombies. Yeah. ⁓ so I'm glad that th I didn't get those vibes at least from it. Definitely just felt like more like post a nuclear apocalypse like Nolan: We've yeah, that's a little we've returned to that well quite quite a few times. jesus: what people would do after all the radiation settled and everyone's coming back to the surface or something. Or if you survived it somehow, you know mean? so that's that's really what I got away from it. Looks like another good role for Jacob Alardi, man. That's dude's kinda just crushing it on all levels right now. He's he's he's racking it all up. ⁓ he did the the that other movie with ⁓ Harley Quinn, which was apparently fantastic, and I guess since then he's just really pfft taken off. Nolan: I saw it. It was ⁓ Nicole wanted to see it. It was a it was a I didn't like it. I I really d look, for those of you who wanted to see Wuthering Heights, you're probably a female Yeah. You're probably a female between the ages of eighteen and thirty five. ⁓ jesus: Okay. All right. Margot Robbie. Sorry. No now the name the name's come back to me. Nolan: It was just a you know, everything was oversexualized, but not necessarily completely raunchy. Like it it wasn't like too gratuitous. ⁓ yeah, yeah, but it it was just a film about bad people, and you were like, Am I supposed to root for these people? Like, I just don't get like Margot Robbie was not a good person, Jacob Ballorty. jesus: It was a smut book brought to life. That's what yeah, that's what it was supposed to be. Yeah. Nolan: was not a good person. Like I don't it was just one of those films where it's like I I need to latch on to something. I don't want to just watch a film about two me feeling bad about two bad people. I just yeah. Nonetheless. Jacob Lordy's doing fantastic. Jalen, continue with what you say. jesus: Right. Right. I I was just saying, yeah, he just it seems like he's just on a on a tear right now, so good for that kid and ⁓ I'm sure some one of the superhero IPs is looking to do something with him in some point or fashion, then I would ⁓ like to put my ticket out for him to be Nightwing Dick Grayson somewhere. That'd be a good shout. Thank you. You're welcome. Nolan: Interesting, interesting. What do you think about the thoughts of the rumors of him being bonded? jesus: I don't know if he's quite a Bond. I think he could pull off a Dick Grayson, but I don't think we're on Bond levels, my guy. That's different gravy from what I've seen, so Nolan: Okay, okay. So now in that sense, would you have to find a Batman that is taller than Jacob Ballorty, who I believe is six five? Actually, let me double check how tall he is. jesus: I mean, yeah, it's a big dude. No, 'cause you can just ske there's there's ways you that filmmakers are always working around that kind of stuff. I don't I really don't think it's a big deal. If anything, he does a bunch of solo work and all that kind of stuff. If somebody needs a step stool, they bring the step stool out and he can act around it. It's not a big deal. Nolan: Gotcha. Then that means we can just book Tom Cruise's Batman, you know what mean? ⁓ but yeah, I am looking forward to this movie. Probably gonna be a couch watch for me. ⁓ not necessarily something I'm I'm eager to go out to the theaters to spend some money on, but it does look like a fun film, another another notch in the belt of Jacob Lordy's acting career. ⁓ and Margaret Quali kind of ⁓ stretching her legs, her acting chops a little bit more in this film. Next trailer, Whale Fall. jesus: Mm-hmm. Nolan: Now, Jalen, ⁓ this trailer actually kind of instilled a little fear of the ocean in me again. ⁓ you know, I haven't had that fear since I saw like the Jaws and Deep Blue Sea as a young kid where I just didn't want to go in the water anymore. ⁓ this one was a little little creepy, you know? It was about ⁓ young man. I believe this is Austin Abrams who's starring in the new Resident Evil movie that's gonna be coming out. So this kid is also once again starting to to gain some traction in his acting career. ⁓ Josh Boland once again in this film as his father, who seems to be someone who's like wants to show him the ropes from a young age of the sea and scuba diving. and as he's exploring the ocean, we see that he starts getting tracked by a whale. ⁓ only to be, you know, latched on by what seems like an octopus. The whale eats the octopus. But of course, because he's holding on to young young Abrams here, he gets pulled into the mouth ⁓ of that whale. And we have a whole, you know, Jonah and the whale story going on. ⁓ I did like that this was not like a a gratuitously large whale where it's just kind of like there's no way that thing exists. This is something that's a little ⁓ jesus: It's like this is this could probably happen to you. Which makes it worse. Yeah. Nolan: This could happen to you, you know? Yeah, exactly. ⁓ but Jalen, your thoughts on this suspenseful trailer. jesus: Also didn't like this whole bit of like imagining this being a thing. Like this is definitely something that could happen to someone and I don't like it. ⁓ I hope he had a knife on him and maybe he can kinda like, you know, just jab his way out of there, you know what I'm saying? Kill the thing and get out scot free. That's really the only option you'd have left after that point. Nolan: T-da-da-da-da- Side note, this means that the trailer worked, everybody. This is how you do a trailer to get your fear. Yeah. Yeah. It seems like a very isolated film for what like it's gonna be, yeah. jesus: Yeah. It really wasn't like a super big trailer, it was just a clip of him fighting this whale and like, yeah, that's all you really need to just show how intense the movie's gonna be. Yeah. Yeah, but no, this is ⁓ definitely definitely a trip for sure to go watch that ⁓ little two thir ⁓ two minute thirty second ⁓ sequence there with ⁓ Jacob Ballardi ⁓ and the whale. So Yeah. ⁓ definitely not cool, man. Not cool. Didn't like that one. Nolan: Now ⁓ does he survive this? He has to, right? jesus: I mean surely, right? Right? Be kind of shite if he dies. Nolan: Right. Does he survive on his own his his own skill set or does like jesus: I think if he's gonna survive it's gotta be like a a plot armor thing where like somebody's just coasting by that happens to be a giant machine gun whale hunter thing. Yeah. Nolan: Whale hunter. Isn't it illegal to hunt whales? Yes, but I saved your life, didn't I? jesus: Yeah, but like you know. Nolan: You know, you know. ⁓ yeah, I mean the the premise of the film, the suspense that they built in this trailer, I am very excited to see. But of course, y it's not a matter. ⁓ for me, like it's not a matter if he survives. He's gonna survive, but it's like how is he gonna do it? And I think that's that'll be the fun part of this movie. Definitely very excited to see it. ⁓ let me double check when this comes out. This will be releasing This thing loads. October 15th. So we are getting in into the horror season. So I guess that kind of makes sense. You know, this is a horror. ⁓ in this in its own. ⁓ a realistic horror, if we will. ⁓ so go out to theaters. I think this may be something if I if I got some time, I might dive into that a little bit in the theater. ⁓ just to get get the blood flowing. Next and final trail that we got today, Jalen. The social reckoning. ⁓ jesus: Woo! This one was a banger. Nolan: This is a sequel ⁓ a sequel, not sequel to the social network that starred JC Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of ⁓ Facebook as well as now Meta AI and all that good stuff. instead, now we have Jeremy Strong as the main protagonist, Mark Zuckerberg. ⁓ we got Mikey ⁓ Madison as well as Jeremy Allen White. as I believe two reporters who are kind of bringing things to light. ⁓ this is set more in current time of what's been going on with Mark Zuckerberg and everything. ⁓ but wow. ⁓ you know we we we saw a fantastic performance by Jesse Eisenberg ⁓ in a in a role where we hadn't really gotten a lot of exposure to who Mark Zuckerberg was in the real world because social media was still kind of pumping out back in two thousand was it two thousand ten, two thousand eleven jesus: Yeah. Yeah, when that movie came out it was still pretty early days of like the internet, you know what I mean? Like 'cause No. Nolan: Yeah. You didn't really see who Mark was and this kind of set a tone. Now we've seen a lot of court cases, interviews, things that Mark Zuckerberg has done in nowadays memes that he's done nowadays. And I gotta say Mark Zucker not Mark, sorry. Jeremy Strong in this role is perfect. He's got depth, he's got strength, aura. Yeah. jesus: Memes He's he's encapsulated the character, man. Yeah. Nolan: ⁓ but Jalen, your thoughts on this trailer and what we're getting from the social reckoning. jesus: I mean if they go like if they do a trifecta and really do like a trilogy of all this stuff, like is it it could be up there, I would say if this movie hits is one of the best trilogies ever made, 'cause it's just like we might have to wait another fifteen years to do that, but that's okay 'cause it gets more stuff in there. But yeah, I'm I'm glad I'm both I'm a little sad that it's not Jesse Eisenberg, ⁓ to do to get another shot at doing a different take on the ca on on his Mark Zuckerberg. Nolan: Huh. Do we gotta wait another fifteen years for the next one? jesus: ⁓ but this guy is just phenomenal in the trailer. He's he's doing amazing work 'cause he has that I think it's also the tone of the trailer too. It sets him up as such a big bad, you know what I mean, for Nolan: Yeah. jesus: what the plot is. ⁓ and generally I think that's what the narrative is too in in regards to the case that they're covering. Like Mark he is the ultimate s shady villain, bro. Like he's gonna get in and do what he wants to do when he wants to do it and that kind of stuff. So yeah, I I think this trailer was phenomenal. So great great job all the way around for that one. Nolan: Yes, definitely. I do wanna see how they kinda bring this in because if I remember correctly, they said that it's gonna be kinda like slightly based on real life events that have occurred, but it's also gonna kinda take its own dive into something that's not necessarily ⁓ Verbatum, I guess is the best way to put it. ⁓ but ⁓ that is something that I'm intrigued to see. This is the very first trailer for this film. It is releasing October 9th of this year, so be on the lookout for that. Aaron Sorkin has returned from the very first installment to come and do this film, so you know that he has a vision for what what this is gonna bring. Jalen, did you get a chance to see Mandalorian? jesus: I did. I did get his chance to see The Mandalorian. here's here's the T L D R is it worth paying to go see in the theater? I would say yes. If you are kinda neutral on a lot of Star Wars stuff and just want a good fun movie to go take your kids to, that's definitely what this is. There's plenty of Grogu in it. Grogu does get to do some cool stuff in the movie. ⁓ Nolan: Take it away, my man. jesus: I will say this though, it did it it did hit that concern if you're like a diehard fan. It did feel like they just kinda stitched together three episodes of of the show and ⁓ that's that's what the the thing was. Like nothing moved universe wise, nothing progressed ⁓ for either character really. Like they're they're the same characters they are at the beginning of the movie that they are at the end of the movie. ⁓ versus you know, what we've grown to know them to become and morph as we watch them in a show format. Nolan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. jesus: So this is just one of those things where it's definitely a fun movie. I'm glad I went to go see it in theaters because of the effects and the that those kinds of things. ⁓ but I think at the end of the day I also could have just had this be season four of Mando and been like, Yeah, it was an okay season four of Mando on Disney Plus that I didn't have to go to the movie theater for. and all that kind of stuff. But the action sequences hit, they look great. ⁓ I will say this, it it did feel like we kind of got some of Din's aura back. Nolan: Mm-hmm. jesus: in this movie. ⁓ which I felt like I think if you're a fan you've felt like it's kind of been missing the last season or so of of The Mandalorian. so you do kinda get some of that aura back in this movie and it feels a little bit more like season one. ⁓ Nolan: Mm. Mm. jesus: Which is cool, but again it just it's one of those things there are a lot of parts that kinda drag and it's just a weird transition with how the plot goes and it just really feels like they didn't know how to really make a real movie that would progress these characters into something else and move the universe around them more heading into another season of the show. It just felt like they had all these ideas for one plot line and then stitched together th Nolan: For a season and then they just said, Why not put it on this big screen? jesus: Yeah, let's just stitch it together and and put it in in in the big screen. So that was my main concern. Unfortunately that's what happened. But it was still a good time and I still I still enjoyed the movie. So it's like a you know, like Zero. Zero moving of the universe. Nobody's affected from the grandstand of like Ahsoka or any of those characters, you know what I mean? Like any a thrawn, not even a wink or a nod to in this movie. So Yeah, ⁓ that's definitely Nolan: Did it move the universe forward at all? jesus: Unfortunate, I think performance wise, everybody did a great job. ⁓ I have no complaints there. Obviously, again, I think the movie was just not in a place where narratively they really took the time to do something that would have warranted it being a movie. You know what I mean? You need to make something change and do something that we really haven't seen with Din, or do something out of character for Grogu that he has to progress with, or no that kind of stuff. There was no CGI Luke, so that's cool. ⁓ I wouldn't have been mad if they decided to shoehorn that in either, just because of where we're at timeline wise. Like I would have been okay with the, you know, face replace Mark Hamill thing again, but yeah, that's just one of those things, man. It's a it's ⁓ it's what it could have been a lot more, I felt like, if we're gonna do a movie version of the Mandalorian and Grogu. ⁓ the the stuff they chose to do was just kinda Meh. So yeah, that's really all I got for that one. I give like a solid, you know, go like it it's it's like a six out of ten, probably. It just passes. It's just a D plus, you know. Just it does the basics, but you're you know, if you miss it, you miss it. I wouldn't sweat over it. But if you really want to go out and have a good time, you don't know what movie to watch and you're a Star Wars geek, this is definitely gonna fill that void. So Nolan: Okay. Well, I'll wait for that one to come out in Disney Plus, you know what I mean? jesus: Yeah, y yeah, I think that's also a shout. You might as well. Yeah, it won't be too long. Nolan: Yeah.
