- 1:48this off.
- 1:50So ladies and gentlemen, stop chasing motivation.
- 1:53Make progress your new normal.
- 1:56Series 5, show 41, episode number 7.
- 2:00This is Friday, as I said, October 9,
- 2:022026.
- 2:03Welcome everyone to the ever-popular inspirations for
- 2:06your life show.
- 2:07I am John C.
- 2:08Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 2:12podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, passionate lifelong learner,
- 2:15graduate student at Montclair State University, and a,
- 2:19yes, so grateful now to be a published
- 2:22author.
- 2:23Today we close this big loop, right?
- 2:27That momentum changes everything.
- 2:30Motivation can spark a beginning, but it cannot
- 2:32carry an entire life, right?
- 2:35So what happens on an ordinary Tuesday when
- 2:39you're tired, distracted, or just not feeling it?
- 2:42Maybe that's when the systems matter.
- 2:45Today I have 30 ways to make progress
- 2:48your new normal, followed by our complete seven
- 2:53-day journey rundown.
- 2:55So guys, without any further ado, let's go
- 2:57ahead and get started because I've got a
- 3:00lot to share with you.
- 3:01I hope that you enjoy this because if
- 3:05you listen to the show, guys, you're going
- 3:06to make a very, very big difference in
- 3:09your life.
- 3:09Now it is not going to happen all
- 3:12overnight.
- 3:12That is the first thing I want to
- 3:13tell you.
- 3:13It will not happen all overnight, but I
- 3:16can tell you guys, it will happen, all
- 3:19right?
- 3:20It will absolutely, absolutely happen.
- 3:23So I think that's an important thing to
- 3:26realize that it absolutely will happen, all right?
- 3:30It absolutely, absolutely will happen.
- 3:33And I think we just got to be
- 3:34a little bit patient to how things work
- 3:37and why things aren't going the way that
- 3:39you want.
- 3:40But I can tell you guys that this
- 3:42does work, and you will be in a
- 3:45position that is going to change your life
- 3:47if you just give yourself some time, right?
- 3:51You got to give yourself some time because
- 3:52when you give yourself some time, you're going
- 3:54to say, hey, wait a minute, guys, this
- 3:56is not what I signed up for, but
- 3:58you know, we live and we learn every
- 4:00single day in our life, right?
- 4:01I think that's a very important thing that
- 4:04we're able to do that.
- 4:06And a lot of people, you know, they
- 4:08get stuck, right?
- 4:10They get stuck because they're hearing one thing
- 4:12or another.
- 4:13And for whatever reason, they just don't really
- 4:18know like what to do, right?
- 4:21And I think a lot of people out
- 4:23today are saying, hey, you know, what do
- 4:26I do, right?
- 4:27What do I do?
- 4:28And I want to tell you that there's
- 4:32a lot you can do in life, okay?
- 4:33There's an absolute lot you can do.
- 4:35So I know a lot of you are
- 4:37saying to me, John, you're like, I don't
- 4:38get this.
- 4:38I don't understand this.
- 4:39But I'm here to tell you that you
- 4:41can get it if you just apply yourself,
- 4:45right?
- 4:45I think that's probably the most important thing
- 4:48that I can tell everyone here today is
- 4:51that you have more power than you think.
- 4:54So let's keep on that trajectory.
- 4:56Let's keep growing.
- 4:58And the more that we grow, the more
- 5:00that we can become, yes, guys, a better
- 5:03version of ourself.
- 5:04And I think that's what everybody really wants.
- 5:08They want to become that better version of
- 5:11themselves so that they can actually be amazing,
- 5:15right?
- 5:18Amazing because of who we are and what
- 5:21we're doing and all those things.
- 5:22But then I think a lot of people,
- 5:24you know, they get stuck.
- 5:26They're not going to trap because they're like,
- 5:27well, why is this going that way, right?
- 5:29So let's get into this, okay?
- 5:31Number one, motivation can begin the journey, but
- 5:34systems will keep it moving.
- 5:35I think that's an important piece that many
- 5:38people in life, well, they miss out on
- 5:40it.
- 5:41And the thing about it is that by
- 5:43the time they realize it, they've wasted a
- 5:46lot of their life.
- 5:47So I think that's a very, very important
- 5:49thing.
- 5:50So let's realize excitement gets your attention.
- 5:54Dependable habits keep your promise when excitement disappears,
- 5:59okay?
- 5:59I think that's a very notable thing.
- 6:03Number two, build a life where progress has
- 6:06a regular place.
- 6:07Your goals deserve more than leftover minutes.
- 6:12Make showing up expected, okay?
- 6:15Number three, schedule what matters before distractions claim
- 6:19the time.
- 6:21If your priorities aren't on the calendar, someone
- 6:24else's priorities, they fill it soon.
- 6:27Number four, guys, and I think number four
- 6:28is a really important one, and that is
- 6:31create routines.
- 6:34Create routines that make action easier.
- 6:38A familiar starting sequence removes friction.
- 6:41Begin with one familiar action, just one.
- 6:44Number five, reduce unnecessary decisions around important habits.
- 6:49Choose your time, location, and first task ahead
- 6:55of time.
- 6:57Number six, make your environment support the person,
- 7:03that's right, to support the person you're becoming.
- 7:10Put helpful tools within reach, and distractions out
- 7:14of sight, yeah.
- 7:17Number seven, keep your next action visible.
- 7:21Keep the next action visible, and when you
- 7:23do that, you'll have a lot of power.
- 7:27A giant goal can overwhelm you.
- 7:30A clearly written next step invites movement upon
- 7:34it.
- 7:35Number eight, finish today knowing what tomorrow begins
- 7:41with, that is.
- 7:42Before you stop, write down tomorrow's first meaningful
- 7:46task.
- 7:47Start with direction, okay?
- 7:50Start with direction.
- 7:51When we have direction, we can get clear,
- 7:54and then we can really figure out where
- 7:56we're actually going.
- 7:58Number nine, protect momentum without becoming obsessed.
- 8:05So without becoming obsessed, guys, understand that you
- 8:09can do more.
- 8:12Don't become obsessed with the speed.
- 8:15Fast isn't always forward.
- 8:17Move deliberately, not frantically.
- 8:19I know a lot of people that move
- 8:20frantically, like, oh my gosh, what do I
- 8:22do, right?
- 8:23Number 11, learn your productive rhythms.
- 8:26Notice when your concentration naturally peaks.
- 8:29Use those windows for demanding work.
- 8:33Number 10, work with your energy, intelligently, that
- 8:37is.
- 8:37So save deep thinking for your strongest periods
- 8:41and routine tasks for quieter moments in your
- 8:45life.
- 8:46Number 13, build recovery into your system.
- 8:51I think that's a key piece that a
- 8:53lot of people don't realize, but they need
- 8:55to be doing that.
- 8:57They need to be building that key task
- 8:59in, right?
- 9:01Because if you don't, you're going to find
- 9:03yourself stranded, right?
- 9:06That's a very important thing to understand.
- 9:12Rest isn't the opposite of progress, guys.
- 9:15It helps you return with the focus and
- 9:17resilience needed to continue in your life, okay?
- 9:21Number 14, measure enough to recognize progress.
- 9:25Track results that actually matter.
- 9:28Completed tasks, practice skills, or step toward your
- 9:32goal.
- 9:33Do not be afraid.
- 9:35Number 15, guys, stop measuring so much that
- 9:40tracking replaces doing.
- 9:44If updating your spreadsheet takes longer than the
- 9:47work itself, simplify what you're working.
- 9:50I think that's probably one of the most
- 9:52important things that I can tell you.
- 9:55Simplify it.
- 9:56Number 16, review what works.
- 10:00And then go ahead, ladies and gentlemen, and
- 10:02repeat what works.
- 10:04I think that's an important thing.
- 10:09Number 17, remove what repeatedly slows you down.
- 10:13Identify the obstacle or obstacles that shows up
- 10:16against, and again, preventing you to getting to
- 10:20your success.
- 10:21Maybe it's clutter, it's alerts, or unclear priorities.
- 10:27Identify them.
- 10:28Eliminate them in your life, because when you
- 10:30eliminate them, your life will change.
- 10:34Your life will change for the better.
- 10:36Number 18, keep improving the system.
- 10:39Around your goals, your routine isn't sacred.
- 10:43Adjust it as your responsibilities and knowledge morph
- 10:47or change.
- 10:49A lot of people I know don't wanna
- 10:50change.
- 10:52They feel, oh my gosh, if I change
- 10:53something, the whole thing's gonna be broken.
- 10:56No, it's not.
- 10:57It might actually get better.
- 11:01It might actually get better.
- 11:04That's important.
- 11:06Because maybe I said it's clutter, alerts, or
- 11:10unclear priorities, like you could be getting notices
- 11:12from your phone, right?
- 11:13Number 18, keep improving, guys, the system around
- 11:18your goals.
- 11:18Your routine isn't sacred, as I said, so
- 11:21adjust what you're doing.
- 11:23And number 19, let consistency become part of
- 11:28your identity.
- 11:28Each time you follow through, you prove to
- 11:32yourself that you're someone who takes action in
- 11:35your life.
- 11:36You're not somebody who sits on the sideline.
- 11:39Number 20, become someone who returns quickly after
- 11:43interruptions set in.
- 11:44Life will interrupt you.
- 11:46Your strength is measured less by never stopping
- 11:50and more by how promptly you resume meaningful
- 11:53work.
- 11:55Hmm, so we're allowed to take breaks.
- 11:59You know, in other countries, they actually have
- 12:02a reward system for people napping on the
- 12:06job in China.
- 12:07I mean, you would think that that's not
- 12:08allowed.
- 12:09They think that's an admirable quality to take
- 12:12a nap on the job.
- 12:13Hmm, I guess they have different priorities over
- 12:17there.
- 12:18Number 21, stop expecting yourself to be perfect.
- 12:23Don't get in the perfect crisis mode.
- 12:26A missed day isn't a verdict on your
- 12:28character.
- 12:29Learn from it without turning one imperfect moment
- 12:32into a reason to quit.
- 12:35Missing your diet for a week, no big
- 12:40deal.
- 12:40Just go back on the track.
- 12:44Number 22, number 22 is one of my
- 12:47favorites.
- 12:48Make improvement an ordinary part of your life.
- 12:53Growth isn't always a breakthrough with applause waiting
- 12:57for us.
- 12:58Often it's quieter choices repeated until it changes
- 13:03how you live.
- 13:06I think that's a real important thing.
- 13:09Number 24, allow your goals to evolve as
- 13:13you grow.
- 13:14New experiences reveal new priorities.
- 13:17Adjusting a goal thoughtfully can be progress, not
- 13:22failure.
- 13:23Keep the purpose while reconsidering the path.
- 13:27I know a lot of people that have
- 13:28done things and their boss or senior people
- 13:31say, oh, you can't do that.
- 13:33Not because it's not good, because they don't
- 13:36wanna look bad.
- 13:38They don't wanna know that there's a better
- 13:40way and your way, ladies and gentlemen, might
- 13:43be better than the way they're doing and
- 13:44they don't wanna hear that.
- 13:46That's poor management.
- 13:48Number 25, use success as a platform for
- 13:51the next meaningful challenge.
- 13:54I said, meaningful challenge.
- 13:57And I think that's a very important thing.
- 14:01Meaningful challenge, meaningful challenge.
- 14:08What does that mean to you?
- 14:12Celebrate your achievements, absolutely.
- 14:16Then ask what that accomplishment or accomplishment makes
- 14:20possible in your life.
- 14:21Let success open a door or two rather
- 14:23than end the journey before you wanna stop.
- 14:28Just because things get hard doesn't mean it's
- 14:30time to stop.
- 14:31Number 26, keep curiosity alive after achievement.
- 14:37Don't let reaching one milestone, close your mind,
- 14:43ask now.
- 14:44Questions, develop new skills and remain willing to
- 14:49be a beginner again.
- 14:50I think the success and key of life
- 14:53is to realize you are always a student.
- 14:57And if you decide you're above being a
- 15:00student, that's when you start losing traction in
- 15:04life.
- 15:04We always need to be humble, need to
- 15:08be humble.
- 15:09Number 27, please ladies and gentlemen, I say
- 15:12this to you and I say it very
- 15:14sincerely, help other people create momentum too.
- 15:19Encourage someone who's hesitating, share a lesson, offer
- 15:24a useful hand and celebrate their small wins.
- 15:28Progress becomes richer when it lifts others up
- 15:32high.
- 15:36A lot of people don't wanna lift those
- 15:37up high because they think that if they
- 15:39do that, it's gonna take away from them.
- 15:41But when we help others, we actually become
- 15:43better ourselves.
- 15:46That's the ego getting in the way that's
- 15:48saying, hey, I don't wanna help that person.
- 15:49I don't want them to get any better.
- 15:52Number 28, look back occasionally so you can
- 15:56see how far you've moved.
- 15:58We all look in our rear view mirror.
- 16:00We do that a lot.
- 16:01We go through the left, the right.
- 16:03We look at the center mirror.
- 16:04Look in that rear view mirror, see what's
- 16:06going on.
- 16:09When you're focused only on unfinished tasks, you
- 16:13can miss your growth.
- 16:15Compare today's abilities with where you started.
- 16:18I think that's a big kicker and a
- 16:21big key, guys.
- 16:22Where you started.
- 16:25Number 29, build a life where forward motion
- 16:29feels familiar.
- 16:30Time for another sprig of water here.
- 16:36You shouldn't need a crisis or even a
- 16:39burst of inspiration to act.
- 16:42Let's study purposeful effort become the part of
- 16:49an ordinary day for you.
- 16:50Don't just do it when it's convenient because,
- 16:52oh, you know what?
- 16:53I think I can try it today.
- 16:55Do it all the time.
- 16:57Do it all the time.
- 16:59Number 30, stop waiting to feel motivated and
- 17:03become someone who knows how to move.
- 17:07Motivation is a welcome visitor but it shouldn't
- 17:11be your manager.
- 17:16Let commitments and systems guide your next step.
- 17:22Guidance doesn't mean doing it for you, right?
- 17:25I think that's a real key.
- 17:28We have to learn these things.
- 17:30If we don't learn them, we're gonna be
- 17:31destined to repeat them and we're not gonna
- 17:34learn the lesson of life that we've been
- 17:36so wanting to know so very badly.
- 17:42Stop chasing momentum.
- 17:45Keep working on progress.
- 17:46But what does that really mean, John?
- 17:49Well, momentum is good, don't get me wrong
- 17:55but we have to work on progress.
- 17:56We have to make steps, right?
- 18:00We have to be consistent.
- 18:03One day we don't take 10 steps and
- 18:04the next day we take one or none.
- 18:06We wanna be consistent in what we do
- 18:10because when we do, we get rewarded.
- 18:15We get rewarded.
- 18:17That's powerful, guys.
- 18:22It's very, very powerful.
- 18:24And I think if you understand that whole
- 18:28concept, then you're gonna be able to say,
- 18:31wait a minute, I think this makes sense.
- 18:40Does that make sense?
- 18:44I mean, I'm asking, does it make sense?
- 18:47If the answer is no, then what does
- 18:52that mean to you?
- 19:00What does that really mean to you?
- 19:05I think it means that we've gotta look
- 19:09at things differently in life.
- 19:11A lot of times we wanna look at
- 19:13things differently but then we don't look at
- 19:15them differently.
- 19:15You know why?
- 19:17Because we're stuck in this paradigm.
- 19:22We're believing what other people say.
- 19:27That's a real problem, guys.
- 19:32A problem that I think a lot of
- 19:34people don't realize.
- 19:43Think about that for a minute.
- 19:50What does that mean to you?
- 19:52I think it means that we have to
- 19:54realize what we're doing.
- 20:02And if we don't realize what we're doing,
- 20:04we're never gonna be anywhere.
- 20:08Not because we can't be anywhere, but because
- 20:12we believe that we can't get anywhere.
- 20:16We have believed that.
- 20:19And once we put that belief in our
- 20:20head, it becomes our reality.
- 20:25It becomes our reality.
- 20:32And I say this to you because a
- 20:34lot of times, we think of one thing
- 20:38and then we're on the fence, can we
- 20:39do it or not?
- 20:40So Henry Ford said something, guys, a long
- 20:42time ago and I wanna repeat it.
- 20:43He said something, which is pretty amazing.
- 20:45He said, you know, ladies and gentlemen, if
- 20:48you believe you can't do something, you're right.
- 20:50But you know what?
- 20:51If you believe you can, you are also
- 20:54also right.
- 20:59You're also right.
- 21:02So that's a very important thing for us
- 21:07to just understand what does that really mean
- 21:10for us?
- 21:11How does that adopt?
- 21:12How does that play out in our lives?
- 21:14If we believe we can, we're right.
- 21:17And if we can't, we're also right.
- 21:23Sounds mind boggling, doesn't it?
- 21:27It's not meant to be mind boggling, but
- 21:28it is meant to give you an understanding.
- 21:33An understanding to believe that you have more
- 21:35power than you think.
- 21:43You have more power than you think.
- 21:50I think sometimes we hear this, we're like,
- 21:53well, how do we do this?
- 21:54Where do we go from here?
- 21:57Right?
- 22:00And then you're like, I don't know.
- 22:04And then you're like, what do I do?
- 22:10And then you're asking yourself, well, I don't
- 22:12really know what to do, but I know
- 22:15I need to do this.
- 22:16But you see, as soon as you believe,
- 22:19okay?
- 22:21As soon as you believe you can't do
- 22:23something, you've automatically X'd off your chances.
- 22:31You've X'd off your chances.
- 22:34Not because you're not smart or anything like
- 22:36that.
- 22:39Comes down to a lot of stuff.
- 22:41Comes down to your ego.
- 22:43Your belief is really important.
- 22:45So now I wanna go back and put
- 22:49our week in review.
- 22:50Saturday, we started out, we discovered that action
- 22:55creates energy.
- 22:57Starting before you're completely ready can produce the
- 23:00clarity that endless thinking cannot.
- 23:04Sunday, we decided.
- 23:08We confronted hesitation.
- 23:10We chose a direction and decided to take
- 23:14responsibility, the bull by the horns for your
- 23:17next step.
- 23:17Instead of waiting for certainty, get rid of
- 23:21hesitation.
- 23:22Monday, we rolled into winning.
- 23:25We saw how small victories build confidence.
- 23:30Each complete action gives you proof that you
- 23:33can keep going.
- 23:34Anything you do in life, social, business, et
- 23:38cetera.
- 23:40Tuesday, we went into adapt mode.
- 23:43We stopped waiting for perfect conditions.
- 23:45When life changes, the circumstances change your approach.
- 23:49Without abandoning what matters, on Wednesday, we rolled
- 23:54into continuing.
- 23:57We learned that difficult days still count.
- 24:02Doing a little bit is still enough.
- 24:05Show steady, continuous effort as it'll carry you
- 24:10forward.
- 24:10Even when results aren't visible just yet.
- 24:15Thursday, guys, we talked about restarting.
- 24:19We learned that losing momentum doesn't erase our
- 24:22progress.
- 24:24Return with one useful action instead of punishing
- 24:27yourself for the interruption.
- 24:28So many people like, oh my gosh, I've
- 24:30gotta do this.
- 24:31I've gotta do this.
- 24:31And it's because you feel that you have
- 24:34to punish yourself.
- 24:35You do not need to punish yourself at
- 24:38all, guys.
- 24:39A lot of people think they do.
- 24:41And this is a big problem for so
- 24:43many people.
- 24:44On Friday, which is today, we wrapped up
- 24:48with sustaining.
- 24:49Today, we built and learned how to build
- 24:51routines like protecting our energy and making things
- 24:55consistent, being part of our identity.
- 24:58So when we make these skills part of
- 25:03our everyday life, life gets easier.
- 25:06We achieve our goal quicker and with less
- 25:10effort.
- 25:12Nobody said we had to put all of
- 25:14our effort to our burning out.
- 25:15Nobody said we had to do that.
- 25:17We can work smarter.
- 25:19We can build those routines and create a
- 25:24better identity.
- 25:25That's how temporary excitement becomes, well, lasting progress.
- 25:32But many people never give it a chance.
- 25:34They just say, well, you know, I can't
- 25:37and I'm never gonna be able to.
- 25:40That's sad.
- 25:41Because there's so much, ladies and gentlemen, that
- 25:43you can do right now, but you just
- 25:46gotta give yourself a chance.
- 25:47You've just got to listen.
- 25:54You've just got to listen.
- 26:02Does that make sense, guys?
- 26:04I mean, I'm just asking you.
- 26:10I'm just asking.
- 26:13What does that mean to you right now?
- 26:16Or what did it mean to you a
- 26:17week ago?
- 26:17What did it mean to you a year
- 26:19ago?
- 26:20And think about those differences right now today.
- 26:24So we start, we decide, we win, we
- 26:29adapt, we continue, we restart, we sustain.
- 26:34Let me say it again.
- 26:35We start, we decide, we win, we adapt,
- 26:41we continue, we restart, we sustain, and we
- 26:45do it again.
- 26:45See, that's the momentum that we have that'll
- 26:49change everything journey.
- 26:53And here's my challenge.
- 26:56Choose one action you could repeat tomorrow or
- 26:59the next day if it's a holiday.
- 27:01Put it on your calendar right now.
- 27:05Make it easy to begin and follow through
- 27:08even if motivation doesn't show up.
- 27:10I'll give you an example.
- 27:11I'm putting a task on my calendar tomorrow
- 27:14that I'm gonna start brainstorming for my new
- 27:16book, which is the truth about AI, the
- 27:19world's never gonna tell you.
- 27:20I'm putting on my calendar so I can
- 27:22start.
- 27:25Now, that wasn't supposed to brainstorm until December,
- 27:27but I'm gonna make that choice now.
- 27:31Put it on your calendar, make it easy
- 27:35to begin and follow through.
- 27:37I'm John C.
- 27:39Morley, serial entrepreneur.
- 27:40I thank you so much for choosing to
- 27:41join me on another empowering episode of Inspirations
- 27:45for Your Life.

- 27:56keys guys for success.
