Avery Alexander Gibbs, a 35-year-old transient, is now in custody after a deadly confrontation in Bay Point that left one dead and another injured. The violence erupted when Gibbs accused a resident of theft, escalated into threats, and then turned physical—culminating in him shooting Ernest Hayes, 44, a beloved car detailer known for his zest for life, and wounding a neighbor.
