• 0:32
Speaker 1: Just talk about geopolitics. Question. You testified in a previous
• 0:36
Speaker 1: hour that you have had interactions with foreign intelligence agents.
• 0:40
Speaker 1: Did you have any reason to? Answer. No, I didn't
• 0:44
Speaker 1: say foreign intelligence agents. I said the CIA and the
• 0:47
Speaker 1: State Department, not foreign agents. Question. Okay. Mr. Emmer, during
• 0:52
Speaker 1: your interactions with Ehud Barak and Jeffrey Epstein, did you
• 0:55
Speaker 1: ever discuss anything that related to foreign intelligence? Staley, no. Ms. Brignac? Question.
• 1:01
Speaker 1: On July 6, 2019, Epstein was arrested at Teterboro Airport

Speaker 1: verify what was in the press? Answer. No. Question. When
• 1:24
Speaker 1: you learned of the gravity of what was being charged,
• 1:26
Speaker 1: what did you do next? Answer, I had no contact
• 1:29
Speaker 1: with Epstein at the time. I was running a bank
• 1:31
Speaker 1: in London, so I did nothing specifically related to the
• 1:34
Speaker 1: fact that he had got arrested. Question, did you reach
• 1:37
Speaker 1: out to anyone in Epstein's orbit to test the veracity
• 1:40
Speaker 1: of the allegations he was faced with? Answer, no. Question,
• 1:44
Speaker 1: did you ever visit Mr. Epstein at the Metropolitan Correctional Center? Answer, no. Question,

• 1:59
Speaker 1: did any alleged victim of Mr. Epstein contact you after
• 2:02
Speaker 1: his death? Answer, no. Question, I believe you testified to
• 2:07
Speaker 1: this in a previous hour, but have you ever been
• 2:09
Speaker 1: appointed as a trustee by Mr. Epstein? Answer, I was
• 2:13
Speaker 1: appointed as an executor of his estate at a point
• 2:16
Speaker 1: in time, and then I resigned. At the end, was
• 2:19
Speaker 1: not an executor or trustee of his estate. Question, would
• 2:23
Speaker 1: it be accurate to say that you signed as a
• 2:25
Speaker 1: trustee in November 2014 and For the Epstein 2014 trust,
• 2:31
Speaker 1: and you signed an amendment to this trust in September
• 2:33
Speaker 1: of 2015, answer yes. Question, what were your duties and responsibilities? Answer, none. Question,
• 2:41
Speaker 1: who asked you to be trustee? Answer, I believe Epstein did. Question, why? Answer,
• 2:46
Speaker 1: I was the senior person in finance, so I think
• 2:48
Speaker 1: he trusted my judgment, but ultimately I declined. Question, why? Answer,
• 2:54
Speaker 1: because I didn't want to be associated with the Epstein estate. Question,
• 2:58
Speaker 1: was it related to your agreement with Barclays in 2015? Answer, no.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: I think I just didn't want to be part of
• 3:05
Speaker 1: his estate. Question, what was the Epstein 2014 trust for? Answer,
• 3:10
Speaker 1: I don't recall. Question, why would you not want to
• 3:13
Speaker 1: be associated with the estate? Answer, because of his convictions
• 3:16
Speaker 1: and what he was because of his convictions. Question, what
• 3:20
Speaker 1: changed in 2014 to result in your belief that you
• 3:23
Speaker 1: prefer to be separated from the estate? Answer, the passage
• 3:27
Speaker 1: of time and wanting to be and realizing that I
• 3:30
Speaker 1: need to separate myself from Epstein. Question, did you hear
• 3:35
Speaker 1: any rumors or other allegations at the time? Answer, no. Question,
• 3:39
Speaker 1: who first told you of your appointment to his estate? Answer,
• 3:42
Speaker 1: I don't recall. Question, were you aware of civil litigation
• 3:46
Speaker 1: against Mr. Epstein at the time? You asked to cease
• 3:49
Speaker 1: communication with him? Answer, no. Question, Mr. Epstein also appointed
• 3:54
Speaker 1: Lauren Summers as an executor of his estate in 2014,
• 3:58
Speaker 1: though he was also not named in the will from 2019.
• 4:02
Speaker 1: Were you ever aware of Mr. Summers' designation in 2014? Answer,
• 4:07
Speaker 1: I may have been, but I don't recall. Question, who
• 4:09
Speaker 1: would have told you? Answer, Larry Summers. Question, what was
• 4:13
Speaker 1: your relationship with Larry Summers? Answer, we knew each other.
• 4:16
Speaker 1: I think I met him in his capacity at Harvard,
• 4:19
Speaker 1: and I believe we met when he was Treasury Secretary
• 4:22
Speaker 1: as well. Question, who introduced you to Mr. Summers? Answer,
• 4:26
Speaker 1: I think we just met because we are in the same.
• 4:28
Speaker 1: I think our paths just crossed. Nobody made the introduction
• 4:31
Speaker 1: per se. Question, what was Mr. Summers' relationship with Mr. Epstein? Answer,
• 4:36
Speaker 1: I don't know. Question, would you agree that his designation
• 4:39
Speaker 1: as executor of Mr. Epstein's estate means he was someone
• 4:42
Speaker 1: trusted by Mr. Epstein? Answer, sure. Question, and the same
• 4:46
Speaker 1: question for yourself. Would you agree you were highly trusted
• 4:50
Speaker 1: by Mr. Epstein to be appointed executor of his estate? Answer, sure. Question,
• 4:54
Speaker 1: why do you think that is? Answer, because I think
• 4:57
Speaker 1: when you appoint someone as an executor of your estate,
• 5:00
Speaker 1: you trust them. Question, now, why did Mr. Epstein trust
• 5:04
Speaker 1: you to that degree? Answer, the same answer. Question, what
• 5:08
Speaker 1: answer is that? Answer, oh, I think he saw me
• 5:11
Speaker 1: as someone who was trustworthy. Brignac, question, have you ever
• 5:16
Speaker 1: had any conversation with Mr. Summers about the estate? Answer,
• 5:20
Speaker 1: one thing I want to clarify is I did not
• 5:21
Speaker 1: see documents with respect to his estate, and so I
• 5:24
Speaker 1: don't recall the documents, just to be clear on that. Question,
• 5:28
Speaker 1: did you ever discuss the estate with Mr. Summers? Answer, no. Question,
• 5:32
Speaker 1: when did you learn of Mr. Epstein's death? Answer, I
• 5:35
Speaker 1: believe the day he died. Question, how did you learn? Answer,
• 5:38
Speaker 1: my wife told me that she heard it. Question, who
• 5:41
Speaker 1: did she hear it from? Answer, I don't know. Question,
• 5:45
Speaker 1: what did you do after you heard about his death? Answer, nothing. Question,
• 5:50
Speaker 1: who'd you speak to next? Answer, I don't recall. Question,
• 5:54
Speaker 1: did Mr. Epstein demonstrate suicidal tendencies in all the years
• 5:57
Speaker 1: that you've known him? Answer, no. Question, do you believe
• 6:00
Speaker 1: that Mr. Epstein committed suicide? Answer, yes. Question, why? Answer,
• 6:04
Speaker 1: that's what the police say. Question, how many lawsuits have
• 6:08
Speaker 1: you ever appeared as a defendant in? Answer, I think
• 6:12
Speaker 1: the lawsuit in the U.S. Virgin Islands against J.P. Morgan,
• 6:14
Speaker 1: I believe I was named as a defendant. Question, is
• 6:17
Speaker 1: that the only one? Answer, no. I think that there's
• 6:20
Speaker 1: a current lawsuit against Barclays where I'm named the defendant.
• 6:23
Speaker 1: Those would be the two. Mr. Sullivan, we can clarify
• 6:28
Speaker 1: for you on the record he was not a defendant.
• 6:31
Speaker 1: He was a third-party defendant in the J.P. Morgan lawsuit.
• 6:34
Speaker 1: And there is one other class action that relates to
• 6:36
Speaker 1: stock which we can provide. Question, by Ms. Brignac, how
• 6:41
Speaker 1: many lawsuits are you named as a defendant and related
• 6:44
Speaker 1: to your work with Mr. Epstein? Answer, I don't believe any. Question,
• 6:49
Speaker 1: how many lawsuits are you listed as a defendant in
• 6:52
Speaker 1: the reference of sexual abuse? Answer, I believe one. Question,
• 6:57
Speaker 1: at any point have you or any of your representatives
• 7:00
Speaker 1: or agents secured a settlement in connection with Mr. Epstein,
• 7:03
Speaker 1: Glenn Maxwell, or any of their victims? Answer, no. Question,
• 7:07
Speaker 1: reporting and documents reviewed by this committee reflect that a
• 7:11
Speaker 1: victim of Mr. Epstein settled with his estate and received
• 7:14
Speaker 1: $ 6 million dollars. as part of the victim's compensation fund. However, Mr. Staley,
• 7:19
Speaker 1: you and Leon Black are explicitly carved out of this settlement.
• 7:23
Speaker 1: And the effect of this carve-out allows the victim to
• 7:25
Speaker 1: sue you and Mr. Black in the future. Why were
• 7:28
Speaker 1: you carved out of this settlement? Answer, I don't know. Question,
• 7:32
Speaker 1: when did you become aware that you were carved out
• 7:34
Speaker 1: of the settlement? Sullivan, that's probably privileged. Brignac, question, did
• 7:39
Speaker 1: anyone besides your attorney tell you that you were carved
• 7:42
Speaker 1: out of the settlement? Answer, no. Question, Who's the victim
• 7:46
Speaker 1: in the settlement? Answer, I don't know. Question, which case
• 7:50
Speaker 1: are you listed in that relates to sexual abuse? Sullivan, well,
• 7:53
Speaker 1: it's a little confusing. Maybe we can help if you
• 7:56
Speaker 1: care to hear from me quickly on that. The JP
• 8:00
Speaker 1: Morgan lawsuit is dismissed. He was a third party defendant.
• 8:03
Speaker 1: JP Morgan settled. There was no claim against him by
• 8:06
Speaker 1: a victim in the sense of he would pay anything.
• 8:09
Speaker 1: So it was just a third party complaint. The case
• 8:11
Speaker 1: is settled. Mr. Staley paid nothing. Secondly, there's a class action,
• 8:15
Speaker 1: the essence of which, and that's on the West Coast.
• 8:19
Speaker 1: And that's a claim that Barclays and Staley combined failed
• 8:22
Speaker 1: to provide accurate information about the relationship. And there is
• 8:25
Speaker 1: one other that we're just finding out about that seems
• 8:28
Speaker 1: to be, I'm not even sure what it is, but
• 8:30
Speaker 1: I can find it. Brignac, Mr. Staley, which case are
• 8:33
Speaker 1: you referring to when you said you're listed in one
• 8:36
Speaker 1: case related to sexual abuse? Staley, the one filed against
• 8:40
Speaker 1: JP Morgan? Brignac, I'm entering into the record. Majority Exhibit
• 8:44
Speaker 1: 9 from the Wall Street Journal. We'll go off record.
• 8:47
Speaker 1: Comes back on. Question, Mr. Staley, who's the woman in
• 8:50
Speaker 1: this photograph? Answer, I believe it's redacted. Is that right? Question,
• 8:55
Speaker 1: have you ever met this woman before? Answer, I just
• 8:57
Speaker 1: recognized another photo that I've been shown by my lawyers
• 9:00
Speaker 1: that she was in, but I don't recognize her per se, no. Question,
• 9:04
Speaker 1: have you had sex with this woman? Answer, no. Question,
• 9:08
Speaker 1: the committee has identified this woman to be redacted, the
• 9:11
Speaker 1: same woman, who's dressed in the Snow White costume. Have
• 9:15
Speaker 1: you ever seen this woman dressed in the Snow White costume?
• 9:17
Speaker 1: Answer no. Brignac, that'll conclude the majority's questions. We'll go
• 9:21
Speaker 1: off the record. So they come back on, and now
• 9:24
Speaker 1: Redacted is asking questions for the minority. Question, Mr. Staley,
• 9:28
Speaker 1: I'd like to pick up where we left off, which
• 9:30
Speaker 1: is around 2008. I'd like to introduce as Minority Exhibit
• 9:34
Speaker 1: S an internal J.P. Morgan document logging comments from rapid
• 9:38
Speaker 1: response meetings with Mr. Epstein. The document we're handing you
• 9:42
Speaker 1: is an excerpt of a larger document. On page 15,
• 9:45
Speaker 1: there's an entry from July 15, 2008. In one column,
• 9:50
Speaker 1: it states, quote, follow up meeting after news that Epstein
• 9:53
Speaker 1: was sentenced to 12 months in jail for solicitation of
• 9:56
Speaker 1: prostitute and six months for procuring a person under the
• 10:00
Speaker 1: age of 18 for prostitution. In a corresponding column, it states, quote,
• 10:04
Speaker 1: Catherine will go back to J.E.S. and tell him we're
• 10:07
Speaker 1: comfortable or uncomfortable with Epstein and do not want to
• 10:10
Speaker 1: go to Cutler for approval. Catherine refers to Catherine Keating, correct?
• 10:15
Speaker 1: Answer could be. Question, do you know of another Catherine
• 10:18
Speaker 1: who was involved in Epstein's accounts at this time? Answer, no. Question,
• 10:22
Speaker 1: Miss Keating was head of J.P. Morgan's private bank starting
• 10:25
Speaker 1: in 2009, correct? Answer, correct. Question, who does the we
• 10:30
Speaker 1: in we are uncomfortable with Epstein refer to? Answer, I
• 10:33
Speaker 1: don't know. Question, could it refer to employees at the
• 10:35
Speaker 1: private bank? Answer, yes. Question, do you remember Miss Keating
• 10:39
Speaker 1: coming to you about Mr. Epstein during this period? Answer,
• 10:43
Speaker 1: I believe that we talked about Epstein, yes. Question, and
• 10:46
Speaker 1: when was that? Answer, again, this is dated July 2008. Question,
• 10:51
Speaker 1: July 15th, 2008, correct. But it says Catherine will go
• 10:55
Speaker 1: back to J.E.S. Answer, I would say it's around that date. Question,
• 10:59
Speaker 1: do you remember what she said? Answer, no. Question, presumably
• 11:03
Speaker 1: it was about Mr. Epstein, correct, and concerns that the
• 11:06
Speaker 1: private bank had with him. Answer, and whether they kept
• 11:10
Speaker 1: accounts with him, yes. Question, and do you remember how
• 11:14
Speaker 1: you responded to those concerns? Answer, I think I was
• 11:17
Speaker 1: leaving it up to Cutler at the time. Question, if
• 11:20
Speaker 1: you were leaving it up to Mr. Cutler, then why
• 11:22
Speaker 1: does it say Catherine will go to J.E.S.? Clearly, you're
• 11:26
Speaker 1: the person that she thinks she needs to go to here. Answer,
• 11:31
Speaker 1: I don't understand why it says this implies that she's
• 11:33
Speaker 1: not comfortable or they're not comfortable going to Cutler. I
• 11:36
Speaker 1: don't understand. He's the general counsel for the bank. Question,
• 11:41
Speaker 1: do you think it could also mean that they're contemplating
• 11:43
Speaker 1: going around you to Mr. Cutler? If you did not
• 11:46
Speaker 1: agree to end J.P. Morgan's relationship with Mr. Epstein, answer,
• 11:50
Speaker 1: I was all for going to Cutler. I would not
• 11:52
Speaker 1: consider that going around me. Question, you previously testified that Mr.
• 11:57
Speaker 1: Cutler decided that J.P. Morgan should keep Mr. Epstein as
• 12:00
Speaker 1: a client following his guilty plea. Answer, as a banking
• 12:04
Speaker 1: client only, yes. Question, can you tell us what you
• 12:07
Speaker 1: remember about that decision or any conversation you had with Mr.
• 12:11
Speaker 1: Cutler at the time? Answer again, no. It was Cutler's
• 12:15
Speaker 1: decision and I left it so Cutler could make the decision.
• 12:18
Speaker 1: All right, folks, we're going to wrap up right here.
• 12:20
Speaker 1: And in the next episode, we're going to pick up
• 12:22
Speaker 1: with question I'd like to introduce as minority exhibit T.
• 12:27
Speaker 1: All the information that goes with this episode can be
• 12:29
Speaker 1: found in the description box.
