- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Where the plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Dude, they said I gotta come off the bench.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench, live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 1: Cane Studio.
- 0:14Speaker 3: The river's all wet.
- 0:51Speaker 3: .
- 0:55Speaker 2: .
- 1:16Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in. Hour number two of OTB.
- 1:23Speaker 4: We will certainly find our way back to some LSU discussion.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Spent the first hour on LSU. Let's go to the
- 1:29Speaker 4: New Orleans Saints now, where the Saints win 24-17 on
- 1:34Speaker 4: the road against the Baltimore Ravens. The Baltimore Ravens were
- 1:38Speaker 4: an 8.5 point favorite in this game. It opened up
- 1:42Speaker 4: at 7.5. It actually grew to 8.5. 15 to nothing.
- 1:48Speaker 4: The Saints outscored the Ravens 15 to nothing in the
- 1:51Speaker 4: fourth quarter. Another great come from behind victory this time.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Last time you come from three touchdowns down on the road,
- 2:00Speaker 4: you fall just short there. Saints are like one play
- 2:03Speaker 4: away from being 2-0 and being in complete control of
- 2:06Speaker 4: the NFC South. But I still like exactly where they're
- 2:10Speaker 4: at in the South after watching the South play out
- 2:12Speaker 4: over the first two weeks of the year. I mean,
- 2:15Speaker 4: this is a game in which the Baltimore Ravens at
- 2:18Speaker 4: one point, you know, ESPN does the win probability. They
- 2:24Speaker 4: had a 91% chance to win this game in the
- 2:27Speaker 4: third quarter. The Ravens did. And the Saints come and
- 2:29Speaker 4: they completely take over the game. And Tyler Shuck was
- 2:33Speaker 4: really good yet again. 27 of 34, 252, 7.4 yards
- 2:38Speaker 4: per attempt. One touchdown, no interceptions. Did take three sacks,
- 2:42Speaker 4: but all three of those sacks were, you know, ones
- 2:45Speaker 4: he couldn't really avoid. It was a little bit of
- 2:47Speaker 4: a lookout situation. Quarterback rating of 107.4. He outplayed Lamar Jackson,
- 2:55Speaker 4: and he continues to be the guy that is your future.
- 2:59Speaker 4: He elevates those around him so well. And I was
- 3:03Speaker 4: trying to put that out there yesterday. Like, I don't
- 3:05Speaker 4: care what his stats are.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Like, I really don't.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Now, he had a good day. I mean, he was
- 3:09Speaker 4: very efficient. Completion percentage was awesome. But he just elevates
- 3:13Speaker 4: those around him. like the tight ends play better when
- 3:16Speaker 4: he's in there, the receivers play better when he's in there.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Like he is just somebody that has that rare skill
- 3:23Speaker 4: and you can't define it. You wish you could bottle
- 3:25Speaker 4: it up, but he's got that. Um, I thought Chris
- 3:29Speaker 4: Alave yet again was awesome. I thought Jawan, Jawan Johnson
- 3:32Speaker 4: might be the player that elevates his play the most
- 3:35Speaker 4: with Tyler Shuck.
- 3:36Speaker 5: He was good yet again.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Uh, Devon Bailey had a couple of really big catches.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Um, The 29-yarder that he had was a big, big play.
- 3:45Speaker 2: In this game.
- 3:48Speaker 4: You hit, if I'm not mistaken, I think it was
- 3:50Speaker 4: eight receivers. Eight different receivers. I'll have to go back
- 3:55Speaker 4: and look at it. I think it was eight different
- 3:56Speaker 4: receivers that he hit in this game. And look, some
- 4:00Speaker 4: of them were one catches. Some of them were two catches.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Like AK had five for seven yards. It wasn't a
- 4:05Speaker 4: lot there, but I'm saying he was spreading the football
- 4:07Speaker 4: out to multiple people. And the defense deserves a lot
- 4:11Speaker 4: of credit as well for shutting down the Baltimore Ravens.
- 4:15Speaker 4: That's a really good offense. And I know they were
- 4:17Speaker 4: missing Zay Flowers, but they still had Derrick Henry. They
- 4:20Speaker 4: still had Lamar Jackson. They had some players that were
- 4:23Speaker 4: on the injury list that ended up playing on that offense.
- 4:26Speaker 4: And in the second half, you gave up three points
- 4:29Speaker 4: to the Baltimore Ravens at home.
- 4:31Speaker 5: You got after Lamar Jackson. You had three sacks in
- 4:34Speaker 5: the game.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I know that's not setting records, but against that guy–
- 4:37Speaker 4: You get him on the ground three times, you feel
- 4:39Speaker 4: pretty good about the day that you had. So just
- 4:42Speaker 4: an ultimate team effort by the New Orleans Saints to
- 4:45Speaker 4: go on the road, win 24-17 when you were more
- 4:49Speaker 4: than a touchdown.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Dog, and you got a dog at quarterback in Tyler Shuck.
- 4:53Speaker 2: It's funny, like the last two weeks, so the first
- 4:56Speaker 2: two weeks of the NFL season, we've been talking about
- 4:58Speaker 2: how the Saints had the second or third highest line
- 5:02Speaker 2: against them going into the game. We talked all offseason,
- 5:05Speaker 2: especially during training camp, getting closer to the season about, man,
- 5:09Speaker 2: those first two, if we just get past those first
- 5:11Speaker 2: two weeks, then your schedule's a little bit more set
- 5:14Speaker 2: up for you. Who would have thought before the season started,
- 5:18Speaker 2: we hadn't really seen Tyler Shook play at all. We
- 5:21Speaker 2: really didn't know what was going on. There was a
- 5:23Speaker 2: lot of injuries happening in training camp, and we were like, okay,
- 5:26Speaker 2: are we snake-bitten again here for the Saints? Well, you
- 5:29Speaker 2: go and you are a 62-yard field goal away from
- 5:32Speaker 2: beating Detroit in Detroit.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And then you go to Baltimore and you win that game. Like,
- 5:36Speaker 2: those are, like, the Saints have outplayed, outperformed any expectation
- 5:41Speaker 2: that was set on them for these two games. You
- 5:45Speaker 2: go one-on-one. You split them. Like, and you were damn
- 5:47Speaker 2: close to going 2-0. Yeah. Now, you're at home. You
- 5:50Speaker 2: host the Raiders. Who? Okay.
- 5:52Speaker 6: All right.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Credit where credit's due. 2-0 Las Vegas Raiders. Who would
- 5:56Speaker 2: have thought? But then you host the Falcons, who are
- 6:01Speaker 2: just bad, bad.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Bad, bad. Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 4: I told you coming back, their training camp practice was
- 6:08Speaker 4: the worst of the ones that we saw.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:11Speaker 5: And that's playing out so far early in the season.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Yeah, no, they're the worst team in the NFL right now,
- 6:18Speaker 2: for sure. I think that's a pretty easy argument to
- 6:22Speaker 2: make right now. I mean, you would have said the Browns.
- 6:23Speaker 2: They've got too much talent to be that bad.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I know.
- 6:26Speaker 5: But look, it all goes back if you're quarterback.
- 6:28Speaker 2: They've got too much talent, but you're talking about like
- 6:30Speaker 2: three people.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's like those three people, yeah.
- 6:34Speaker 7: They're so bad.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Those three people are really, really good. So now your
- 6:38Speaker 2: schedule's a little bit more friendly, and you went through
- 6:42Speaker 2: the week one and two gauntlet, and you did really
- 6:45Speaker 2: damn well. Look, Tyler Shuck. Hats off to you. If
- 6:48Speaker 2: there was any question about him, which I don't really
- 6:50Speaker 2: think there was, but I can tell you if there's
- 6:51Speaker 2: any question nationally, nobody was talking about him.
- 6:54Speaker 5: Going into this season. Nationally, there was.
- 6:56Speaker 4: I remember somebody before the season, they put out something
- 6:59Speaker 4: like teams looking that will be in the quarterback market
- 7:02Speaker 4: in the next draft, and they put.
- 7:03Speaker 5: The Saints on the list. I'm like, are you ignorant?
- 7:04Speaker 2: I think it was Thamel.
- 7:06Speaker 5: No, it wasn't. No way. It could be our guy.
- 7:08Speaker 7: Oh, we got to ask him about it next time
- 7:10Speaker 7: he comes on.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Maybe he was talking about backup.
- 7:12Speaker 5: Had to be.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Had to be. He wasn't talking about our guy. He's
- 7:15Speaker 2: too smart for that. He doesn't buck.
- 7:17Speaker 7: He's got some pretty good backups, too, though.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Because let me, like, I know all the conversation. We'll
- 7:23Speaker 4: see Jackson Dart tonight. And if he has a big
- 7:25Speaker 4: game tonight against the Rams, like, I'll give him his
- 7:28Speaker 4: full credit because he did it against the Cowboys.
- 7:30Speaker 2: He was very efficient.
- 7:31Speaker 4: But, like, okay, so we always joke, like, Flynn and
- 7:34Speaker 4: I were heavy into the card game. Jackson Dart's prices, astronomical.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Tyler Shuck, not even close. Not even remotely close. Shuck
- 7:49Speaker 4: is somebody that, for whatever reason nationally, like people talked
- 7:53Speaker 4: about Shador Sanders more than they talked about Tyler Shuck.
- 7:56Speaker 4: There was somebody who, somebody said something about, I think
- 7:59Speaker 4: it was Jarvis Landry said something about Shador Sanders over
- 8:02Speaker 4: Tyler Shuck.
- 8:03Speaker 5: I'm like, guys, what do we like? No, hold, let
- 8:06Speaker 5: me back up. We didn't miss it.
- 8:08Speaker 4: What are you missing when it comes to Tyler Shuck's game?
- 8:12Speaker 4: And look, even when we were reluctant to like take
- 8:16Speaker 4: Spencer Rattler off the field last year, Because Spencer was
- 8:20Speaker 4: delivering the football.
- 8:21Speaker 5: He was doing things. The plays weren't being made.
- 8:24Speaker 4: And for whatever reason, something happens like this sometimes where
- 8:29Speaker 4: you make a change, a guy comes in, and again,
- 8:33Speaker 4: it's one of his biggest skills, elevates everybody around him.
- 8:36Speaker 4: I don't know what it is. I've seen it happen before.
- 8:39Speaker 4: You can't explain it, but that's what happened. And he
- 8:42Speaker 4: got a chance to watch for eight games or whatever
- 8:45Speaker 4: it was, and he got a chance to see– And
- 8:47Speaker 4: I talked to Tyler Shug off the record about that.
- 8:49Speaker 5: He's like, man, that was big for me. He goes,
- 8:51Speaker 5: do I want to win the job?
- 8:52Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 8:53Speaker 4: But looking back on it, he's like, there's things that
- 8:55Speaker 4: I saw, I learned, and when I got onto the field,
- 8:59Speaker 4: I felt like I had played, even though I hadn't.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think there's any quarterback in the NFL
- 9:05Speaker 2: that is successful that had to sit early on that
- 9:10Speaker 2: ever has been interviewed and said, man, I wish I
- 9:12Speaker 2: wouldn't have sat. I wish I would have played immediately.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I don't think that's ever happened. I don't think Patrick
- 9:16Speaker 2: Mahomes ever said that. He sat for quite a while.
- 9:20Speaker 2: So there's nothing but good things that can come. And
- 9:22Speaker 2: you're right. He's got the it factor from the aspect
- 9:26Speaker 2: of everybody seems to play. I saw him make a
- 9:31Speaker 2: monster play. I didn't get to watch a lot. I
- 9:33Speaker 2: had to watch little Hammy play soccer yesterday. That won.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Every Sunday won. Don't get to watch much Saints. But
- 9:40Speaker 2: I saw Juwan make a monster play. I break four tackles,
- 9:44Speaker 2: whatever it was, get up the field, and it's just
- 9:47Speaker 2: everybody elevates around him. Hand in the air, I'll admit,
- 9:54Speaker 2: I bought a pretty expensive Tyler Shuck card. Okay? I
- 9:58Speaker 2: bought a pretty good one. Had a comma in it.
- 10:01Speaker 2: But when I bought it.
- 10:02Speaker 7: Was it Saturday night?
- 10:05Speaker 8: No, no, no.
- 10:05Speaker 2: This was in the off season. Okay. Got it graded, too.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Not a big deal. Did it come back to 10?
- 10:11Speaker 2: You'll see when it hits the open market.
- 10:14Speaker 5: Well, I won't be a buyer.
- 10:16Speaker 9: You'll find it on the old electronics bay.
- 10:19Speaker 2: To the point. Electronics bay. It's going to be. The
- 10:23Speaker 2: same Jackson Dart card was purchased for like five times
- 10:28Speaker 2: the value of the Tyler Shuck card. And Shador Sanders
- 10:32Speaker 2: cards were going for a little bit more than Tyler Shuck.
- 10:37Speaker 2: What are what?
- 10:38Speaker 1: What?
- 10:39Speaker 2: What world is this? I mean, I get it. Shador's
- 10:41Speaker 2: a big time pro bowler.
- 10:42Speaker 5: I mean, have you seen this? Yeah, he is.
- 10:45Speaker 9: The Pro Bowl, Shador doesn't.
- 10:47Speaker 2: He will this season. But like the, so, and I
- 10:50Speaker 2: get there's a small market, large market.
- 10:53Speaker 5: Cleveland isn't exactly a metropolis.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, what?
- 10:58Speaker 5: The New York part, yeah. Colorado and Cleveland.
- 11:01Speaker 2: You talking about the mistake by the lake?
- 11:02Speaker 6: Yes.
- 11:03Speaker 2: You talking about the Cleve?
- 11:04Speaker 5: You've been to Cleveland. You know what I'm talking about.
- 11:06Speaker 9: Ew, I don't like that.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:07Speaker 9: I don't love the cleave.
- 11:08Speaker 7: You know whose play Tyler Shug is really elevating? Or
- 11:13Speaker 7: maybe we just didn't see a lot of him before
- 11:16Speaker 7: is Devon Vele.
- 11:17Speaker 5: He was injured, but yeah.
- 11:19Speaker 4: I think Vele, for sure, it's a good call. Because
- 11:22Speaker 4: he's making some really good contested catches. But I will
- 11:25Speaker 4: say the biggest jump is Jawan Johnson.
- 11:28Speaker 7: Probably because they went to college together.
- 11:31Speaker 5: It's a great point.
- 11:32Speaker 7: They played together at Louisville.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Oregon.
- 11:34Speaker 7: Yeah, Oregon.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 10: People wanted him out of the lineup before Tyler Schell
- 11:39Speaker 10: became the starter.
- 11:39Speaker 2: People were like, truly, you don't have a tight end.
- 11:41Speaker 7: I hated Juwan Johnson in his TikTok.
- 11:45Speaker 4: I was so mad at him when he dropped that
- 11:47Speaker 4: one pass that Spencer Rowe threw in the end zone.
- 11:49Speaker 5: Oh, my God.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Because instead of catching it, he kept slapping it.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 2: He was like, no, Spencer, no.
- 11:55Speaker 6: No.
- 11:56Speaker 2: We don't get out of here, Paul. I want Tyler.
- 11:59Speaker 7: Did we just figure it out?
- 12:00Speaker 5: Oh, maybe I was.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Jawan was sabotaging Spencer to get his boy Tyler in.
- 12:04Speaker 5: That's what it was. He knew.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Maybe he knew the whole time.
- 12:08Speaker 9: They might have beef, too.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Maybe. Yeah, that's true. A lot of beef out there.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Get out of here.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Get out of here, Paul. A lot of hate in
- 12:16Speaker 2: the off-season season.
- 12:17Speaker 10: Towards Chris Alave, and I want any Saints fan right
- 12:20Speaker 10: now to find me 10 receivers in the NFL that
- 12:22Speaker 10: are better and playing better currently than Chris Alave because
- 12:25Speaker 10: there's not any.
- 12:26Speaker 5: I don't remember who it was here.
- 12:28Speaker 4: I don't remember, so I don't want to say any names,
- 12:30Speaker 4: but somebody was talking about Chris Alave and kind of
- 12:33Speaker 4: what he was and.
- 12:34Speaker 2: What he could be.
- 12:35Speaker 7: I wasn't on the Alave pay him six-rank wide receiver
- 12:41Speaker 7: money train until Ross convinced me.
- 12:43Speaker 5: The deal was his injuries. In injuries, he couldn't help.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Concussions, and blood clots. That's what makes you a little
- 12:51Speaker 4: bit nervous. And, look, he elevated his game past the
- 12:54Speaker 4: point where I thought he could. He is no doubt.
- 12:58Speaker 5: A number one receiver. There's no question about it.
- 13:02Speaker 4: He runs every route with authority, and he's competitive in
- 13:07Speaker 4: every route. And what I mean by that is it
- 13:09Speaker 4: doesn't matter what the route is, what the route calls for,
- 13:12Speaker 4: he's competitive. If it is a whip route, he's whipping
- 13:16Speaker 4: the thing. If it is a hitch route, he's hitching
- 13:19Speaker 4: it like it hadn't been hitched before. Yeah.
- 13:22Speaker 7: He hitching that thing.
- 13:23Speaker 4: And there's so many receivers, and Matt can speak on
- 13:25Speaker 4: this way better than I can. There's some receivers that
- 13:27Speaker 4: are number one receivers that they only want the post.
- 13:30Speaker 5: They only want the corner.
- 13:31Speaker 4: They only want the 18-yard dig route. They only want
- 13:33Speaker 4: the go route. That man is competitive in a drag route.
- 13:37Speaker 4: It doesn't matter what you ask him to do. He's
- 13:39Speaker 4: going to run it like a number one receiver should.
- 13:43Speaker 2: And look, I think a lot of the– You know,
- 13:46Speaker 2: hand in the air as far as probably not giving
- 13:49Speaker 2: him the flowers he deserved in the offseason. I mean,
- 13:52Speaker 2: we did a– First time he's had a good– We
- 13:53Speaker 2: did a whole– We did a tier list on number
- 13:56Speaker 2: one receivers.
- 13:56Speaker 7: And I was like, no.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Here on the show. And we're like, yeah. I can't
- 14:00Speaker 2: remember what tier we put him, but as far as
- 14:02Speaker 2: like– I think B.
- 14:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was B.
- 14:04Speaker 6: Yeah. B.
- 14:05Speaker 2: That's not bad, but probably not. I think right now
- 14:08Speaker 2: we'd probably put him A.
- 14:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Not S, but A. Not S, but A.
- 14:12Speaker 9: How many receivers right now are playing better than Chris Olave?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Playing better than him. Five, maybe. Five, yeah. I mean, JSN, awesome.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Good Lord. Jordan Jefferson. Yeah, Jefferson's been good.
- 14:25Speaker 9: Jamar would better.
- 14:26Speaker 5: This week than last. I'm going to say that Alave's
- 14:29Speaker 5: played top five.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 5: You can have whatever name you want to, and you
- 14:32Speaker 5: can insert it.
- 14:33Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 5: But he's played as a top five receiver.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Statistically, yeah.
- 14:36Speaker 5: He's second in the NFL right now.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Receiving yards he's doing great he's only second to jsn.
- 14:42Speaker 2: And tyler shuck is number one in passing yards in
- 14:45Speaker 2: the nfl with.
- 14:46Speaker 10: 662 five incompletions like when targeting a lave through two
- 14:50Speaker 10: weeks five incompletions like i saw coming in the chat
- 14:52Speaker 10: earlier i'm so tired of hearing this because it's a
- 14:54Speaker 10: talking point that one person brought up and he just
- 14:57Speaker 10: kept going like in the chat he goes devon vele
- 14:59Speaker 10: is our number one he makes contested catches when a.
- 15:02Speaker 9: Lave doesn't first off Somebody said that today.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:05Speaker 10: In the chat a couple minutes ago said, first off,
- 15:07Speaker 10: he made multiple contested catches week one, set up the
- 15:10Speaker 10: 42 yarder to lead the comeback last week, scored your
- 15:13Speaker 10: first touchdown to tie it this week.
- 15:15Speaker 9: What big plays is Chris?
- 15:16Speaker 2: I love it.
- 15:16Speaker 9: Not making, and he's routing people up. So he's open
- 15:18Speaker 9: all the damn time.
- 15:19Speaker 5: He's very smooth in his route. So he's your number
- 15:21Speaker 5: one receiver. Look, Bailey's awesome. Bailey's there for that.
- 15:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Bailey's there for contested catches his size. Like that's, that's
- 15:28Speaker 4: what he's there for. That's going to be his skillset. Like,
- 15:32Speaker 4: We were watching the reverse scissors from the end zone
- 15:34Speaker 4: copy that they scored on in the red zone. It
- 15:36Speaker 4: was an incredible throw by Tyler Shuck. But when you
- 15:39Speaker 4: run something like that, there's a smoothness and a timing
- 15:41Speaker 4: of finding that window. And what Chris Alave does really well,
- 15:46Speaker 4: and when I say he's competitive in every route, every
- 15:49Speaker 4: route doesn't call for you to put it in third
- 15:52Speaker 4: and try as hard as you can and run as
- 15:54Speaker 4: fast as you can. No, no. There's routes where you
- 15:56Speaker 4: have to be smooth and you have to understand coverage
- 15:59Speaker 4: and you have to know which speed to run your route.
- 16:02Speaker 4: So you find yourself into that window. That's being competitive.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Being non-competitive is just running. Like it's drawn on the
- 16:08Speaker 4: piece of paper, full speed. That's non-competitive. Go back and
- 16:12Speaker 4: watch the, we'll pull it up today.
- 16:13Speaker 2: There's a difference between being a good route runner and
- 16:15Speaker 2: a good football player. Yes. And he's a very good
- 16:18Speaker 2: football player. And again, like that route right there, you
- 16:21Speaker 2: talk about the timing and the kind of, and I
- 16:22Speaker 2: spoke on this in hour one about LSU and the
- 16:24Speaker 2: timing of the footwork does not matching up. The footwork's
- 16:26Speaker 2: not matching up with the routes. Well, like, play like
- 16:29Speaker 2: that the reverse scissors that we talked about like it
- 16:31Speaker 2: could be one run at a different speed against single
- 16:35Speaker 2: high and you get too high and it's run at
- 16:37Speaker 2: a different speed but everybody's on the same page and
- 16:39Speaker 2: that's a lot of times that's the difference between an
- 16:41Speaker 2: offense that has been together for a little while receivers
- 16:44Speaker 2: and quarterbacks that have been together but also just a
- 16:46Speaker 2: high football IQ and being smooth with.
- 16:48Speaker 4: It let's do this let's step away when we come
- 16:51Speaker 4: back I'll see if I can find that I'm sure
- 16:53Speaker 4: somebody's cut that up already online we'll show exactly what
- 16:56Speaker 4: we're talking about we'll continue talking A little NFL, talk
- 16:59Speaker 4: a little Saints, what they have coming up next and
- 17:01Speaker 4: what it is going to look like for them to
- 17:04Speaker 4: actually play a home game after starting on the road
- 17:07Speaker 4: in Detroit, in Baltimore. I'm sure the Superdome is going
- 17:10Speaker 4: to be turned up to an 11. We'll do that
- 17:12Speaker 4: when we come back here on OTB.
- 17:15Speaker 9: Off the bench.
- 17:16Speaker 7: Pelican Roof.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Where everybody needs a roof.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Go to pelicanroof.com. Website for Pelican Roofing in Baton Rouge,
- 17:23Speaker 4: in Lafayette. They are boots on the ground in both.
- 17:26Speaker 4: locations and look we tell you that because well they
- 17:30Speaker 4: are always in the local community there right so run
- 17:33Speaker 4: with rufus mother's day veterans day roof giveaway and they
- 17:36Speaker 4: do that in both local communities but they're also they're
- 17:39Speaker 4: not just driving back and forth on the basin trying
- 17:42Speaker 4: to service both areas like they have an office in
- 17:44Speaker 4: each location and so they are there and they're there
- 17:47Speaker 4: for your consultation if you like maybe you think something's
- 17:50Speaker 4: wrong with your roof they'll come out and if nothing's

- 17:56Speaker 5: They're not trying to trick you. They're going to get
- 17:58Speaker 5: the job done.
- 17:59Speaker 4: They're going to do it the right way every single time.

- 18:11Speaker 2: they love Pelican Roof. Five-star reviews everywhere. So give them
- 18:14Speaker 2: a call if you need a roof repair, roof replacement,

- 18:27Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn. Presented by Bayou Automotive.
- 19:00Speaker 2: No, you don't gotta pretend. Baby, now I'm in.
- 19:04Speaker 9: Don't you just wanna wake.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Up dark as a lake?
- 19:09Speaker 6: Spilling like a bonfire, lost in the haze. You're too
- 19:30Speaker 6: sweet for me. You're too sweet for me.
- 19:35Speaker 3: I take my whiskey in. My coffee's black and my
- 19:40Speaker 3: bed is green.
- 19:41Speaker 6: You're too sweet for me.
- 19:46Speaker 5: All right, welcome back in.
- 19:47Speaker 4: OTB here live from the Raising Gain Studio. Monday shows
- 19:51Speaker 4: brought to you by Bayou Automotive.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Vroom, vroom.
- 19:56Speaker 4: We're going to pull up that Chris Olave play here
- 19:58Speaker 4: coming up in a second. But just, again, what a
- 20:01Speaker 4: statement victory it was for the New Orleans Saints to
- 20:04Speaker 4: not only beat a good team, but to go on
- 20:06Speaker 4: the road. And beat a good team. And yet again,
- 20:09Speaker 4: be down and find a way to come back in
- 20:11Speaker 4: the game. Now, they want to get that fixed, obviously.
- 20:14Speaker 4: You don't want to get down to the Lions and
- 20:17Speaker 4: the Ravens. And we saw them get down to the Lions,
- 20:19Speaker 4: and they fell just short. Made a great comeback. And
- 20:22Speaker 4: you want to figure out how to start games fast.
- 20:25Speaker 4: And you've got to get better at that. Like, the
- 20:26Speaker 4: Saints haven't led in the first quarter since Moby Dick
- 20:31Speaker 4: was a minnow. They're about to set an NFL record, actually.
- 20:34Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 20:35Speaker 4: So you want to start fast. You got to get
- 20:37Speaker 4: that figured out. But you love the fight. You love
- 20:39Speaker 4: the way that they don't blink. I've played in that
- 20:42Speaker 4: stadium that they just went on the road. It's not
- 20:45Speaker 4: an easy one to go to. It's not a good
- 20:46Speaker 4: franchise to do that to. I don't care who's playing.
- 20:48Speaker 4: They always are ready to go in that stadium. That's
- 20:51Speaker 4: a good football team that you just went on the
- 20:53Speaker 4: road and beat. And now you get a chance to
- 20:54Speaker 4: come home in your own stadium. And a team that's 2-0,
- 20:58Speaker 4: but a game in which you're going to be favored
- 21:00Speaker 4: for the first time probably.
- 21:02Speaker 2: All year long.
- 21:03Speaker 4: In your first two games, you've been more than a
- 21:05Speaker 4: touchdown dog.
- 21:06Speaker 5: You lost one in overtime, and you won the other one.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I was watching the game, and I was like,
- 21:12Speaker 2: oh man, Derrick Henry's about to have another one. Another
- 21:16Speaker 2: one of these two, three touchdown games. He scored, what,
- 21:19Speaker 2: it was the first possession of the game? I was like,
- 21:22Speaker 2: oh gosh, it's going to be.
- 21:23Speaker 5: A long one.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Tyler Shuck better have a day, and he did. And
- 21:26Speaker 2: they ended up shutting him down, and not letting him
- 21:30Speaker 2: break loose much after that. So, What a great win, man.
- 21:33Speaker 2: It was fantastic. And, again, you make it through the gauntlet.
- 21:36Speaker 2: The Saints do. You make it out 1-1. And, again,
- 21:38Speaker 2: a 62-yard field goal away from being 2-0 on the
- 21:42Speaker 2: road versus two very good future playoff teams.
- 21:46Speaker 4: You are a three-point favorite right now at home against
- 21:49Speaker 4: the Raiders there.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Three-point? Three-point favorite.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Hammer.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Against the Raiders.
- 21:55Speaker 5: All right, here's the play.
- 21:56Speaker 6: Only three?
- 21:57Speaker 4: Here's a play that we were talking about with Chris
- 21:59Speaker 4: Alave in the red zone, and it's a great throw
- 22:02Speaker 4: by Tyler Shuck. But just to show you what we're
- 22:05Speaker 4: talking about. All right, so Alave is in motion on
- 22:08Speaker 4: this play, and it's the one, if you're listening to
- 22:10Speaker 4: us on radio, that it was in the red area.
- 22:12Speaker 4: I think it was on the 19-yard line, and it
- 22:14Speaker 4: was just a reverse scissor.
- 22:16Speaker 5: So you have a corner route. Underneath that is a
- 22:18Speaker 5: post route.
- 22:19Speaker 4: But watch what we're talking about when we say Chris
- 22:21Speaker 4: Alave runs the speed, the route, Like he's supposed to
- 22:25Speaker 4: and not just running as fast as he can.
- 22:30Speaker 2: He's jogging right now. Then he just.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Finds his way into the coverage. Look, he's not running
- 22:36Speaker 4: full speed. He never really runs full speed. That's not
- 22:39Speaker 4: what the route calls for. The route calls for you
- 22:42Speaker 4: to allow the corner route to do what it's supposed
- 22:44Speaker 4: to do, which it did. And as soon as you
- 22:47Speaker 4: got the DB's shoulders turn, which the corner route did.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Watch here.
- 22:51Speaker 5: Turn. Too late. He never ran full speed. He never accelerated.
- 22:56Speaker 5: He didn't have to.
- 22:57Speaker 4: He knew exactly what the route called for. Tyler Shuck
- 23:00Speaker 4: threw it really before he even broke out. As soon
- 23:03Speaker 4: as the shoulders get turned there, you got him. That's
- 23:07Speaker 4: what a top receiver looks like. Understanding how to run
- 23:11Speaker 4: that route into that coverage. It's a quarterback that is
- 23:13Speaker 4: on the same page with his number one receiver, and it's.
- 23:17Speaker 2: A thing of beauty. A lot of teams do this
- 23:21Speaker 2: in the red zone. This is quarters covers. I'll call
- 23:24Speaker 2: it red seven, red four, whatever it is. A lot
- 23:26Speaker 2: of people play it in the red zone because it
- 23:28Speaker 2: is a good run defeater, and you can double some guys,
- 23:32Speaker 2: and you don't have to really worry about it in
- 23:33Speaker 2: the red zone getting beat over the top. This is
- 23:35Speaker 2: a reverse scissor. This is a beautiful way to attack
- 23:39Speaker 2: red zone quarters because it's understanding the safeties. Check this out. Oh,
- 23:45Speaker 2: I brought the pointer. As soon as number two, he
- 23:49Speaker 2: becomes number two. As soon as he releases vertical... The
- 23:52Speaker 2: safety looks him up. Now, if number two goes to
- 23:54Speaker 2: the flat or goes across, he starts doubling number one.
- 23:57Speaker 2: But as soon as he goes vertical, he's got him. Now,
- 24:01Speaker 2: normal scissors action is a post first, corner second, right? Well,
- 24:06Speaker 2: they go corner first, post underneath. So what that does,
- 24:10Speaker 2: and especially doing it from a motion and an off position,
- 24:13Speaker 2: Olave is off the line of scrimmage when he runs
- 24:15Speaker 2: his post. Um, number two releases vertical. So because of
- 24:19Speaker 2: the rules, because the saints are in film study and
- 24:22Speaker 2: game plan, and they understand they're probably going to get
- 24:24Speaker 2: quarters in this, this down a distance in this area
- 24:26Speaker 2: of the field. As soon as number one, who's running
- 24:29Speaker 2: the corner releases first, the safety's got them. Yeah. Now,
- 24:33Speaker 2: if they ran normal, traditional post corner, they would end
- 24:37Speaker 2: up passing it off because the corner is number two. Yeah.
- 24:41Speaker 2: So now that he's number one, the safety's got them.
- 24:44Speaker 2: And it's a beautiful way to be quarters. in the
- 24:47Speaker 2: red zone like that, bring in– and, like, if this was, like,
- 24:50Speaker 2: Tampa 2 or something, you'd have a Mike Linebacker to
- 24:53Speaker 2: worry about deep like that. It'd be a different type
- 24:56Speaker 2: of throw. But this is as easy to get as
- 24:57Speaker 2: this pitch and catch. And, again, like you said, they
- 24:59Speaker 2: understand the concept. They understand the route. They've talked about it.
- 25:01Speaker 2: They have high football IQ. Hey, how about good footwork
- 25:04Speaker 2: from a quarterback? Live around time. Touchdown, good guys.
- 25:10Speaker 5: There was– Multiple times, so not just one.
- 25:13Speaker 2: This is great game plan in offensive coaching. This is
- 25:15Speaker 2: offensive 101 coaching tape. You understand what they're going to do.
- 25:20Speaker 2: You know their tendencies. And then guess what? Backside, they
- 25:22Speaker 2: had answers versus other coverages. Now, this is still going
- 25:26Speaker 2: to be a decent route against if you get another
- 25:28Speaker 2: type of coverage, but you have other answers.
- 25:31Speaker 4: There was multiple times in this game, too, where Tyler
- 25:33Speaker 4: Shuck stood tall in the pocket, stepped up, knew he
- 25:36Speaker 4: was going to take a hit and still deliver the football.
- 25:39Speaker 4: kind of blend both of our conversations we've had today,
- 25:43Speaker 4: that's something Sam Levitt is.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Going to have to do.
- 25:46Speaker 4: There was one pass where he tried to kind of
- 25:50Speaker 4: jump out of the way, had both feet out of
- 25:52Speaker 4: the air, and tried to deliver to an open receiver.
- 25:55Speaker 5: That's just never going to happen. But if you understand,
- 25:59Speaker 5: I'm going to take a shot. It's going to hurt.
- 26:02Speaker 4: I'm going to take a shot. But if I do,
- 26:05Speaker 4: I can deliver the football well. on time, where it's
- 26:08Speaker 4: supposed to go, and it's going to be a completion.
- 26:11Speaker 4: And look, we know Sam's not afraid of contact. He
- 26:15Speaker 4: runs the ball and.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Puts his shoulder down all the time.
- 26:17Speaker 4: But sometimes, and Matt, again, another thing that you can
- 26:20Speaker 4: speak to way better than anybody here, you have to understand,
- 26:23Speaker 4: I am going to take a shot. But if I
- 26:25Speaker 4: set my feet and use my legs and deliver the
- 26:28Speaker 4: football instead of trying to not avoid contact, but try
- 26:32Speaker 4: to avoid the defender by jumping up and trying to
- 26:35Speaker 4: throw the football with, Neither feet, not one of them
- 26:39Speaker 4: on the ground, it's going to be a tough.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Throw for anybody. Just remember, when you're competing and you've
- 26:43Speaker 2: got adrenaline flowing, it doesn't hurt that bad. That's true.
- 26:46Speaker 2: It hurts. That's true, too. Pain is temporary, but glory
- 26:49Speaker 2: lasts forever.
- 26:51Speaker 7: And it's weakness leaving the body, so just let it happen.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Is that Gene Hackman?
- 26:54Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Weakness leaving the body. What doesn't kill you makes you?
- 26:57Speaker 7: Stronger.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Shout out Kelly Clarkson. That's Kelly Clarkson. That is true.
- 27:03Speaker 2: I mean, just get it, you know?
- 27:05Speaker 5: It's true.
- 27:05Speaker 2: It really does. I mean, it does hurt.
- 27:06Speaker 5: Not in the moment, though.
- 27:07Speaker 7: Only for a second.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Sometimes. Sometimes. If you get hit clean, it doesn't hurt
- 27:11Speaker 2: as bad. Yeah.
- 27:12Speaker 5: You get those weird shots, then it hurts. Helmet to
- 27:15Speaker 5: the thigh is usually the only one.
- 27:17Speaker 2: And guess what? If they spear you, you get 15 yards.
- 27:22Speaker 7: If you're going to use that pointer, it needs to
- 27:24Speaker 7: be a little bigger. It's tiny. I can't really see.
- 27:27Speaker 2: What you're pointing. I'm going to tell you, though. Right
- 27:29Speaker 2: here on the one shot, Matt.
- 27:30Speaker 5: It's the lighting.
- 27:30Speaker 6: Real funny.
- 27:31Speaker 4: It's the T-Bob size pointer.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I think my pointer's okay.
- 27:37Speaker 5: You want to hear my.
- 27:38Speaker 4: It's so funny when something happens to the team that
- 27:44Speaker 4: you're rooting for. When DB went low on Trey Dez
- 27:47Speaker 4: and hit him in the knee, I started thinking, as
- 27:50Speaker 4: an offensive player, because this is how offensive guys think,
- 27:53Speaker 4: I was like, you know what? If I blocked a
- 27:55Speaker 4: defender there at that portion of the field, I'd get
- 27:59Speaker 4: 15 yards.
- 28:02Speaker 2: But they can You can tackle low. In fairness, that
- 28:06Speaker 2: DB might have been tackling at his normal height.
- 28:10Speaker 5: I'm not even saying, like, get rid of that because
- 28:12Speaker 5: it's football.
- 28:12Speaker 2: It's a violent sport.
- 28:13Speaker 4: But I'm like, don't get mad if, like, if we
- 28:15Speaker 4: run stretch or a boss play and I'm up on
- 28:18Speaker 4: the strong safety in the alley and I cut him.
- 28:20Speaker 2: You can't cut anymore? Not that far.
- 28:23Speaker 5: Not outside the box, no.
- 28:25Speaker 2: We've gotten so soft as a country.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Oh, I would not have a career. On boss plays?
- 28:30Speaker 1: Oh.
- 28:31Speaker 5: I'm helping the tight end, helping the tight end, then
- 28:33Speaker 5: I'm cutting late.
- 28:34Speaker 2: You're so tiny and impossibly wide. I mean, of course
- 28:37Speaker 2: you were going to cut.
- 28:38Speaker 5: I'm not staying up with you. What am I, dumb-dumb?
- 28:41Speaker 5: All right, we'll take a break.
- 28:43Speaker 4: More OTV when we come back here live from the
- 28:45Speaker 4: Raising Cane Studio.

- 30:11Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn, presented by Bayou Automotive.
- 30:15Speaker 8: I am sitting in the morning at the diner on
- 30:20Speaker 8: the corner. I am waiting at the counter for the
- 30:24Speaker 8: man to pour the coffee. And he fills it only halfway.
- 30:28Speaker 8: And before I even argue, he is looking.
- 30:31Speaker 2: All right, welcome back here. Off the Bench. Monday morning.
- 30:36Speaker 2: Live from the Raising Cane's studio. I want to tell
- 30:40Speaker 2: you about our friends over at Catalyst. When you think
- 30:41Speaker 2: about Louisiana, you think about energy. And one company helping
- 30:45Speaker 2: shape the future is Catalyst. Catalyst developed in the Commonwealth
- 30:48Speaker 2: LNG export facility over there in Cameron Parish, connecting American
- 30:51Speaker 2: natural gas with customers around the world. Now under construction
- 30:55Speaker 2: after reaching its final investment. The project represents a major
- 30:58Speaker 2: investment in Louisiana's future. It's about more than just exporting energy.
- 31:02Speaker 2: It's about creating jobs here in Louisiana. It's about supporting
- 31:05Speaker 2: local businesses, strengthening communities, and reinforcing Louisiana's position as one
- 31:09Speaker 2: of the world's leading energy hubs. Through its natural gas
- 31:12Speaker 2: production and the Commonwealth LNG project, Catalyst is helping build
- 31:16Speaker 2: an integrated energy platform that connects domestic resources with the
- 31:19Speaker 2: growing global demand. As construction continues along Louisiana's Gulf Coast,
- 31:23Speaker 2: Catalyst is proud to invest and American energy, American workers,
- 31:27Speaker 2: and a stronger economic future. Catalyst, connecting Louisiana energy to
- 31:31Speaker 2: the world. And maybe even outer space. To the moon?
- 31:42Speaker 2: To the Mars. Any Starbase updates?
- 31:49Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Is it ready to go? Is it fully made yet?
- 31:54Speaker 7: I don't think so.
- 31:55Speaker 4: No?
- 31:56Speaker 7: But I think that might take a while.
- 31:59Speaker 5: Okay.
- 31:59Speaker 2: They didn't cut the ribbon yet? Not yet.
- 32:01Speaker 9: It's like it's been a week.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Yeah, man. What are we doing?
- 32:04Speaker 7: I thought Elon was supposed to be like super smart
- 32:07Speaker 7: or something.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Sweet-ass media came out a couple weeks ago. But there's
- 32:14Speaker 2: engineers who couldn't have been more than 28 years old
- 32:18Speaker 2: talking about, yeah, talking about all smart guys and gals.
- 32:25Speaker 7: I can't imagine somebody my age building something that's going
- 32:27Speaker 7: to go to space. I don't have my life together
- 32:31Speaker 7: at all.
- 32:32Speaker 2: I know y'all got problems with the coastline around here.
- 32:36Speaker 7: Let's use up more of it.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I'm 28. I think it'll be fine.
- 32:39Speaker 7: I'm 28.
- 32:39Speaker 9: I should worry about it more than you anyway.
- 32:42Speaker 2: We're good. We should invest.
- 32:46Speaker 5: All right. Real quick.
- 32:48Speaker 4: Something that, look, we got to do with the breakdown
- 32:50Speaker 4: of the game. Tay-Tay, you're going to give us a
- 32:52Speaker 4: little LSU injury update. There were some guys that went down.
- 32:57Speaker 4: Some better news than I think that we thought. Certainly
- 33:01Speaker 4: some bad news when it comes to the injury update
- 33:05Speaker 4: for LSU as they get ready for Texas A &
- 33:07Speaker 4: M this weekend.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll do the good news first.
- 33:10Speaker 9: Get a little positivity going.
- 33:12Speaker 10: Trades Green's mother actually confirmed on Facebook yesterday that Trades
- 33:16Speaker 10: did not tear anything. Looks like an MCL sprain, something
- 33:21Speaker 10: along those lines. She said sprains, bruises, no surgery needed, though.
- 33:24Speaker 10: So Trades Green, hopefully, maybe out, what, three to four weeks,
- 33:29Speaker 10: should be back after that. The not-so-good news, both Deshaun
- 33:32Speaker 10: Spears and Phillip Wright will miss the remainder of the season.
- 33:35Speaker 9: Deshaun Spears did tear his knee. over the weekend.
- 33:39Speaker 10: And then Phillip Wright, he actually missed the game. He
- 33:41Speaker 10: was ruled out really when that infamous injury report came
- 33:45Speaker 10: out on Wednesday, he was already ruled out. He suffered
- 33:47Speaker 10: a leg injury against Louisiana tech. He is out for
- 33:50Speaker 10: the year as well. So no Phillip Wright and Spears
- 33:52Speaker 10: for the remainder of the season.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Spears is going to hurt. He's a really good football player.
- 33:58Speaker 4: LSU did some different things. It wasn't every play, but
- 34:01Speaker 4: they moved to Marcus Cooley to the nickel position. And he,
- 34:06Speaker 4: you know, You move a different safety in there. Jace
- 34:09Speaker 4: came in. He played some safety. Probably your best, I think,
- 34:16Speaker 4: path moving forward is to keep Tamarcus there, star, nickel,
- 34:19Speaker 4: whatever you want to call it.
- 34:23Speaker 5: It's a loss.
- 34:24Speaker 2: It is.
- 34:24Speaker 4: I mean, Spears is a good player that can do
- 34:26Speaker 4: a lot of different things. He can rush off the edge.
- 34:29Speaker 4: I mean, we've seen him do that. Really good in
- 34:32Speaker 4: run support. I'm not going to sit here and tell
- 34:34Speaker 4: you that it's all good.
- 34:36Speaker 2: It's a loss.
- 34:37Speaker 4: Anytime you lose a starter like that, it's a loss
- 34:39Speaker 4: because now you've got to have the Rubik's Cube out
- 34:41Speaker 4: and you've got to try to turn it and twist
- 34:42Speaker 4: it to see which formula is going to work to
- 34:45Speaker 4: be able to solve it.
- 34:46Speaker 5: So it's going to be one that we have to
- 34:48Speaker 5: see how they attack it.
- 34:50Speaker 4: In this game, again, like I said, the way that
- 34:52Speaker 4: they did it was they kind of moved a couple
- 34:54Speaker 4: of different pieces around. And so it might not be
- 34:58Speaker 4: just one look. It might be depending on the situation.
- 35:00Speaker 4: It might be depending on a lot of different things.
- 35:03Speaker 4: But from what I saw, Jace Thomas went to free safety.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Demarcus Cooley went to the star position.
- 35:10Speaker 5: And that's how they kind of attacked it.
- 35:19Speaker 4: I'm trying to think right now, as I'm looking at it,
- 35:23Speaker 4: I'm trying to think what LSU is going to do.
- 35:25Speaker 2: At tight end.
- 35:28Speaker 7: Don't have a lot of depth.
- 35:29Speaker 5: Zach Grace is more of like an H-back. Like, he
- 35:36Speaker 5: looks like somebody that can play some fullback, play some
- 35:38Speaker 5: tight end.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Wait, what did you call an H-back again? What's an
- 35:41Speaker 2: H-back to you?
- 35:42Speaker 1: An F.
- 35:43Speaker 4: Well, no, I mean, like an F's like more of
- 35:47Speaker 4: like a fullback. But, I mean, in a lot of
- 35:50Speaker 4: offenses I played in, like the H-back was going to
- 35:52Speaker 4: be an F.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that was a serious question for my
- 35:55Speaker 2: side because I never had an H-back. I know I
- 35:58Speaker 2: made fun of you one time for the different positions.
- 36:00Speaker 2: That was a real question. I don't know what people
- 36:03Speaker 2: consider an H-back.
- 36:03Speaker 5: Like a hybrid, like tied-in, full-back. Not a Y tied-in,
- 36:11Speaker 5: not a straight yackle, but also not.
- 36:12Speaker 2: A trade-in screen.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Okay.
- 36:15Speaker 2: You have Malachi Thomas. And you consider a Y like
- 36:19Speaker 2: a blocker?
- 36:20Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Okay.
- 36:23Speaker 10: You have Malachi Thomas. Are you brought over from Pitt? However,
- 36:26Speaker 10: he called 13 passes a year ago for Pitt. I mean,
- 36:28Speaker 10: that's kind of your most experienced guy after Trey does green.
- 36:33Speaker 10: Roman Mothershed, probably an option, number 82. He's 6'5, and
- 36:38Speaker 10: he was a receiver in the spring, but they moved
- 36:39Speaker 10: him to tight end in the fall to try to
- 36:42Speaker 10: potentially get him on the field because you have a
- 36:44Speaker 10: lot of mouths to feed over there, receivers. So maybe
- 36:47Speaker 10: Mothershed's an option.
- 36:48Speaker 4: He came in the game at the very end. He
- 36:51Speaker 4: was the crosser that the ball should have gone to him.
- 36:54Speaker 4: We're still trying to figure out if he was throwing
- 36:56Speaker 4: the shallow or the deep cross on the last play
- 36:58Speaker 4: of the game.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I think the, of course, what we've seen, we've seen
- 37:04Speaker 2: Trey does be the go-to guy on when you need it.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Third and whatever you need. He's been that guy. But
- 37:11Speaker 2: more so, like, he has popped to me in the
- 37:13Speaker 2: running game. Like, his blocking has been so improved this season.
- 37:17Speaker 2: And there was a lot said about that in the offseason. Like,
- 37:20Speaker 2: how is he going to handle this? Well, I mean,
- 37:21Speaker 2: he showed you early and often. in that Clemson game.
- 37:24Speaker 2: And since then, how much he has improved and what
- 37:27Speaker 2: a willing blocker he's been. So, and that makes a
- 37:30Speaker 2: difference on his ability to get open over the middle
- 37:34Speaker 2: is because his willingness to block. So they'd never really
- 37:37Speaker 2: know what he's going to do. Like pre-snap, the defense
- 37:42Speaker 2: isn't going to know if trade has his block in,
- 37:44Speaker 2: or is he going to going out on the route?
- 37:45Speaker 2: And that helps him. That's what good tight ends do.
- 37:48Speaker 2: That helps him get open.
- 37:50Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 37:50Speaker 2: It helps him make blocks. Now, now you kind of
- 37:52Speaker 2: got to, Mix and match a little bit. You might
- 37:55Speaker 2: have one guy coming in there that you know there's
- 37:57Speaker 2: a real good chance he's blocking. Another guy coming in there,
- 38:00Speaker 2: you know there's probably a real good chance he's running
- 38:02Speaker 2: a pass route. That's what we're going to miss the most.
- 38:05Speaker 2: And people say, how's Trey Does getting over so much? Well,
- 38:08Speaker 2: I got it. He's great. He's 6'7, and he's athletic.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Trey Does is not the greatest route runner in the world.
- 38:15Speaker 2: He's just athletic, gets to his spots, and he can
- 38:18Speaker 2: do a lot of different things. So you can't just
- 38:20Speaker 2: tee off on him. You can't key him. because of
- 38:23Speaker 2: his willingness for one, his willingness to block, and two,
- 38:25Speaker 2: of course, the body size and just like the gifts
- 38:27Speaker 2: that God gave to him. So now you do. It's
- 38:31Speaker 2: going to be a challenge, but, you know, it's a
- 38:36Speaker 2: challenge for the coaches, but, you know, they're pretty good.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Coaches are pretty good, pretty good on offense. They're going
- 38:41Speaker 2: to figure it out. I'm not worried about it. It's
- 38:43Speaker 2: just trying to figure out how it'll be interesting to
- 38:45Speaker 2: see in that first half versus Texas A & M
- 38:47Speaker 2: this week how they are planning to go about losing him.
- 38:52Speaker 4: Yeah, tight end is a big portion of this offense.
- 38:54Speaker 4: I mean, all jokes aside, like Daquan Wright, what he
- 38:56Speaker 4: was to Ole Miss last year. Big time, prime time
- 39:00Speaker 4: player for them.
- 39:00Speaker 2: We could use him. You could. Taylor made that joke
- 39:04Speaker 2: in the chat this weekend.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Tradez, obviously, like there's a lot of the offense that
- 39:08Speaker 4: kind of goes through that position.
- 39:10Speaker 5: And again, like Grace is a fullback slash tight end
- 39:14Speaker 5: type body type.
- 39:15Speaker 4: I think it's going to take somebody different. And so,
- 39:17Speaker 4: how they utilize that position in this game. Because it's
- 39:20Speaker 4: going to be 11 personnel, I would assume.
- 39:23Speaker 5: They're not going to go to 10 personnel. It's going
- 39:25Speaker 5: to be 11 personnel.
- 39:26Speaker 4: It's what they're going to be, how they handle that,
- 39:29Speaker 4: and how they draw it up. There's going to have
- 39:31Speaker 4: to be some heavy lifting by the coaching staff to
- 39:33Speaker 4: try to figure out that production piece that you're missing.
- 39:36Speaker 5: And it depends.
- 39:37Speaker 4: I don't know the grade sprain of the MCL that
- 39:41Speaker 4: Tredez has either. Like a grade one, if it's mild,
- 39:45Speaker 4: it's usually one to three weeks. If it's a grade two,
- 39:49Speaker 4: if you had like any kind of partial tear, it
- 39:50Speaker 4: would be four to six weeks. And then obviously if
- 39:53Speaker 4: you had a complete tear, we're talking about something completely different.
- 39:56Speaker 4: We're talking about months that you would be off there.
- 39:59Speaker 4: It's not the ACL, it's the MCL. So my best
- 40:02Speaker 4: guess is three weeks. We don't know that. Let's see
- 40:04Speaker 4: what that timetable looks like. He's not playing this week.
- 40:07Speaker 4: That we can promise you. Like when you have an
- 40:09Speaker 4: MCL sprain, you can be the toughest guy in the world.
- 40:12Speaker 4: You can't go out there and you can't do it.
- 40:14Speaker 4: Could it be three weeks? I think that's the best
- 40:16Speaker 4: case scenario for LSU. And that would put Trey Dez
- 40:21Speaker 4: out the Texas A & M game, the McNeese game,
- 40:25Speaker 4: and the at Kentucky game. It would bring him back
- 40:28Speaker 4: against Mississippi State on the 17th of October.
- 40:34Speaker 2: It seems like a lot of the games that we
- 40:36Speaker 2: were hoping would kind of be some feel-good wins on
- 40:42Speaker 2: the schedule. Oh, Kentucky, Mississippi State. There's some– Teams playing
- 40:47Speaker 2: a little bit over their skis right now. At least
- 40:50Speaker 2: we thought they were going to be. So it is
- 40:53Speaker 2: going to be a tough schedule, and we need everybody
- 40:56Speaker 2: all hands on deck. But, look, I mean, it's one game. Like,
- 40:59Speaker 2: one game against a really good Ole Miss team. So
- 41:01Speaker 2: I'm confident. I know that this team is going to
- 41:04Speaker 2: continue to get better. I think Lane said it after
- 41:06Speaker 2: the game. Like, we're through week three, and it feels
- 41:08Speaker 2: like it's been a long season already. So, like, we
- 41:11Speaker 2: got past the one, like, game that had the bullseye
- 41:14Speaker 2: on it, right? We're past that. Now settle in, take
- 41:17Speaker 2: a deep breath, realize there's a lot of season. You
- 41:20Speaker 2: can still accomplish any goal that you have. Now you've
- 41:23Speaker 2: got to get better. Of course, you've got to improve.
- 41:24Speaker 2: You've got to make some different plays. But there is
- 41:27Speaker 2: a good foundation on this team. And, again, we've gone
- 41:30Speaker 2: through three games under the Lane Kiffin era. Like, they're
- 41:32Speaker 2: going to get better. Sam Leavitt, you've got to get
- 41:35Speaker 2: a little bit better. You can make the crazy plays.
- 41:38Speaker 2: We got it. Now you've just got to make the
- 41:39Speaker 2: basic plays. So there's a lot to improve in figuring
- 41:43Speaker 2: out how to replace– trade is and how long you're
- 41:45Speaker 2: going to have to do that is going to be
- 41:46Speaker 2: a big going to play a big factor.
- 41:49Speaker 4: All right we'll step away we'll wrap up hour number

- 43:21Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in OTB. Here live from the
- 43:25Speaker 4: Razor Cane Studio. Your next opponent for the LSU Tigers
- 43:29Speaker 4: is number 23, Texas.
- 43:30Speaker 5: A & M, coming to town right now.
- 43:33Speaker 4: ESPN matchup predictor gives LSU a 62.8% chance to win
- 43:36Speaker 4: this game. The line in this game, it opened up
- 43:43Speaker 4: early at 3, like earlier in the year.
- 43:45Speaker 5: It's now up to 9.5 for LSU.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Minus 9.5 for LSU right now, and that's at minus 118.
- 43:54Speaker 5: That's what happens when you lose to Kentucky.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Kentucky beat A & M 31-21 over the weekend in
- 44:02Speaker 4: College Station.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Some of the stats of that game.
- 44:06Speaker 5: Well, Kentucky, by the way, they're kind of big boys.
- 44:09Speaker 1: It is.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Texas A & M up front.
- 44:10Speaker 5: I didn't watch that game.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Which was, you know, the thing that was surprising. Now,
- 44:15Speaker 4: A & M made a run. A & M made
- 44:16Speaker 4: a run in the fourth quarter to make it close.
- 44:18Speaker 4: Kentucky outscored A & M 21 to nothing in the
- 44:21Speaker 4: third quarter. So, Kenny Minchey was 14 of 18, 252 yards,
- 44:28Speaker 4: 14 yards per attempt, two touchdowns, no interceptions. Kentucky had
- 44:33Speaker 4: a day running the football, too. They committed to it.
- 44:36Speaker 2: 156 yards on 36 carries.
- 44:40Speaker 4: For Texas A & M, they threw 49 passes. Marcel Reed,
- 44:44Speaker 4: 26 of 49. 236, 4.8 yards per attempt, one touchdown,
- 44:49Speaker 4: two interceptions. Texas A & M did have success running
- 44:53Speaker 4: the football with Reed. He had 10 carries for 80 yards,
- 44:56Speaker 4: had a 40-yard run. They had 35 carries for 187 yards.
- 45:01Speaker 4: But Marcel Reed was not.
- 45:04Speaker 9: It doesn't matter. If he goes off against LSU, I'm
- 45:07Speaker 9: going to lose my mind.
- 45:07Speaker 2: It doesn't matter. He's going to have a.
- 45:09Speaker 7: The best game of his entire life.
- 45:11Speaker 2: My entire existence.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 45:14Speaker 2: Something about LSU.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Kentucky didn't have a sack on defense either, so it's
- 45:17Speaker 4: not like they got after him that way. Right.
- 45:20Speaker 7: Did Joe Sloan suddenly just.
- 45:22Speaker 5: What a.
- 45:23Speaker 2: Glow-up, huh? Mm-hmm.
- 45:24Speaker 7: He just had to go to Kentucky, I guess.
- 45:26Speaker 2: I did see them run a couple wide receiver screens.
- 45:28Speaker 2: I did, too.
- 45:30Speaker 4: I saw many inside zones.
- 45:32Speaker 5: Many inside zones. Look, congrats to Kentucky for putting a
- 45:35Speaker 5: hell of a game plan together, though.
- 45:37Speaker 4: And, again, they were the first... the physical bunch. Like,
- 45:40Speaker 4: they were the aggressor in this matchup for a large
- 45:43Speaker 4: majority of it. Now, A & M did fight back
- 45:45Speaker 4: in the fourth quarter. It looked like they were leaning
- 45:46Speaker 4: on Kentucky a little bit, but it was already too
- 45:48Speaker 4: late at that point. It's going to be an interesting
- 45:51Speaker 4: game to see how both teams come out after a loss.
- 45:55Speaker 5: One at home to Kentucky, one on the road to
- 45:56Speaker 5: Ole Miss.
- 45:57Speaker 2: It does go to show you that.
- 45:58Speaker 5: A lot on the line Saturday in Tiger Stadium. That
- 46:01Speaker 5: with the.
- 46:02Speaker 2: With that probability, with the game line shifting and LSU
- 46:05Speaker 2: only dropping three spots, it is showing you that nationally
- 46:09Speaker 2: people are respecting the loss a little bit and giving
- 46:12Speaker 2: a lot of respect to Ole Miss and what LSU did,
- 46:16Speaker 2: you know, losing that much, but having a chance to
- 46:19Speaker 2: at least tie the game at the end. That is
- 46:21Speaker 2: a sign of respect from the national level is what
- 46:24Speaker 2: LSU is getting. So they're still remembering the good things
- 46:26Speaker 2: that were done by LSU in the first two weeks.
- 46:28Speaker 2: So remember that as LSU fans this week. Don't get
- 46:31Speaker 2: too sad just yet.
- 46:33Speaker 7: A lot of season left.
- 46:34Speaker 2: A lot of season left. A lot of football to
- 46:36Speaker 2: be played.
- 46:36Speaker 5: No, you got to go, though. You got to go
- 46:39Speaker 5: right now.
