- 0:49[SPEAKER_05]: All right, let's get into this.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, that comes up.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_02]: I always want Chris to poke his head around the side of the advert.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_02]: They said he won't do it.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_03]: I can't do it.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_02]: I did it.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_03]: I did it in the chat.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_03]: Chris, look around the advert.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_03]: I think of this time.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_03]: I couldn't see you.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_03]: I just want you to check the tape.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to check it out.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_03]: Me and Kat, but that's why I want to see you.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_04]: You're just following a sleep where you're sitting.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_04]: I am.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_04]: That's true.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_04]: That is very true.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_05]: All right, we're going to start when the dolphins have the football, but I don't know if you guys saw the press availability this week.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_05]: They're just not all done, but some of them, yeah, the one that really stuck with me was Anthony, we were saying that he really needs to find a way to get Willie Gay into the game.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_05]: I hate the last one.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_05]: I was under the impression that he controls that.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_05]: The guy didn't play a single snap.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_05]: I heard that and I'm like, what kind of drugs are these people doing over there?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_04]: It's a little button push for him, but I hesitate to laugh because it's not really a joke, but at the same time, somebody on my, on, among my Twitter followers had the best response I've ever seen to that, which was, you know, clearly the Dolphins problem is that they have too many good players.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, well, you could just forget about that.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's what stuff does.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: They're good.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_05]: Go ahead.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say sorry.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: Don't decide.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: It does feel a little bit like those excuses and those reasons.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's been to happen quite a lot.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: Like the game sort of tends to get away from the coaching staff a little bit.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like the Danny will often come in.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, post games they are, you know, we didn't run the ball as much because it just got the game just got away from me a little bit and like that's a repeat offense that I keep hearing the coaches say I find that really worrying because you just don't hear on the coaching staff say that you don't hear on the coaches comes to the, you know, to the
- 3:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think that you saw it in the game and not that we want to just rehash the game we've already rehashed, but I think about the fact that to is such a put it on the discord the other day, but to it is such an RPO play action guy, right?
- 3:44[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, they ran RPOs play actions probably about half the time that that that two is used to I mean if you look at the percentages and and what we're used to seeing out of that offense and it's like oh did we just not get to it because you know the game was 20 to nothing by halftime, but even at 20 to nothing halftime you still have to.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_04]: You start to run, you start to run the ball sum.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_04]: You still have to run your offense.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_04]: And time and time again, people have come up with all these analytics to say, the play action effectiveness isn't so much about the fact that you're succeeding in running the ball, it's how you sell it, how well you sell it.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, is that a thing that they didn't get to?
- 4:35[SPEAKER_04]: Is that, you know, they didn't get to, they did two RPOs in the game, you know, two RPO pass-a-times in the game.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_04]: Normally, I think that would have been like six and out of the, the pass-a-times that you would have seen seen from two of them.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_04]: They did, I think, you know, maybe like four play actions.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_04]: That, and that certainly normally would have been six or eight.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_04]: Nearly half of two of those passes pass-a-times in this lease in 2020, are RPOs or play action.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_04]: It's far in a way, the highest plan is running quarterback from since two was drafted.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, it's just like, well, game out of way for us.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_04]: We didn't get to it.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_04]: You know, didn't get to the run, didn't get to Ali Gordon, meant to get to Ali Gordon, but we didn't meant to get the willy gear on the field.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_04]: We didn't, you know, like, okay.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_04]: I guess meant to not get fired, but we did.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_05]: Now, for those of you watching us, I'm video something weird very happy.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_05]: Something very weird happened.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_05]: Those of you that are listening to us on audio, you're going to notice that nothing really happened.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_05]: Because I'm going to make it look really, really good.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to make it sound really, really, really good.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_05]: But I guess I got cut off when I was asking this question.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_05]: Earlier in the week, Mike McDaniel had an availability where he was talking about Darren Waller.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_05]: And he kind of said, well, he's either going to do something right by the team or he's going to play this week, or he's going to play next week, or he might not play this week.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_05]: It's Thursday.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_05]: He hasn't got practice yet.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_05]: This is a weird thing because he can just play the guy.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, he completely.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, Kenny is a healthy enough.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_04]: And by the way, what he said, that was so eyebrow raising was later in the week, we're going to have to make a decision about whether he's going to be available to us for the season or whether we have to do what's best for the team.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_04]: That was that was a real eye opener that was him saying later in the week, we're going to decide whether we're just done with him.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, just period as a science and a place, and yeah, and I think, I think they're very close to that.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_04]: I hear they're very close to that.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_04]: You know, the the feel from inside the building.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: is he's going to be cut and this would not be an issue with it if we were a green bay or we were kind of saying or a Philadelphia or a well-run front office or well-run team.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_04]: A couple who we are and this is you get a little benefit of the doubt with those guys right.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: People who are closer to you know if you're how are you or if you're you know good or whoever you get that benefit of the doubt because you're you're your track record says that you've earned that but not with this.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_04]: Now, this is pretty, this is pretty, um, you know, and I don't want to catastrophize a six iron pick or $2 million, you know, because ultimately that's what it boils down to, but it's not just the six iron pick, it's, or the $2 million, which by the way, like, in a, in a football team where you lose out on a guy because of $1 million or $2 million in free agency, you know,
- 7:38[SPEAKER_04]: the dolphins trying to get clay as Campbell back.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_04]: And he chose the Cardinals.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_04]: And the Cardinals did offer more money, you know?
- 7:49[SPEAKER_04]: That can matter.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_04]: Those $2 million can matter.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_04]: You know, six or 안 picks, sometimes can matter.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_04]: I think those picks are a little overrated.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_04]: But yeah, so it's the opportunity cost too.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_04]: And it's, you know, no offense didn't join us.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_04]: He joined the Cincinnati Bengals of Y. Well, Darren Waller was already here, you know?
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: Adam Shefter is reporting to the dolphins how they players only meeting on Tuesday this week in the wake of the one last in a week one I mean that is Ritee early in the season To be doing that.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so that's Shefter the last few minutes the dolphins had a play.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_05]: Well, we lead the league in something We lead the league in something
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: There you go, to make sure they all remain on the same page, apparently.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_05]: There's no way, and this will be the last question that we deal with the news of the week.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_05]: Who knows, it's only Thursday.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_05]: They can make more news tomorrow, okay?
- 8:49[SPEAKER_05]: But, you know, we're recording today.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_05]: This will be a team that can definitely make more news tomorrow.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_05]: Let's not, okay, let's not, all right?
- 8:58[SPEAKER_05]: Let's just go lazily into Sunday, play a football game and be done with it, all right?
- 9:04[SPEAKER_04]: You never have, this team never gives us a normal one-out.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_05]: Let me, let me just ask this, it's just a tag on to the Diren Waller thing.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_05]: They do run the risk of looking like the biggest clowns anywhere, if they release them, and he goes elsewhere, and I think I rose and I was, I think they are big clowns because I'm going anywhere else.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_04]: It's tough call because if he goes somewhere, I mean, somebody else is paying him, which I'm happy to do.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 9:35[SPEAKER_04]: That $2 million somebody else start covering that bill.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_04]: But if they release him and he doesn't go anywhere, then he just gets to pocket $2 million to... He got the best gym membership anybody's ever gotten in your life.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_04]: And to just work out, that's pretty good deal.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_04]: You take that deal.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, this is just, yeah, this is one of those things that you just throw on to the pile, like, my God, what are you people doing?
- 10:09[SPEAKER_05]: Like, what are you doing?
- 10:12[SPEAKER_04]: And again, it's just, it's right, like people always kind of pocket it.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_04]: And like, yeah, it's just a $2 million, it's just, it's just the time, well, but they put him tight-end one on the depth chart.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_04]: right, you know, they talked him up when they signed him.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_04]: He was part of the formula when they decided to pull that trigger on the John and Smith trade or in John and Smith, you know, make a Fitzpatrick, Jalen Ramsey, yes, there were significant other parts on that trade.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_04]: But he was part of that conversation.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_04]: He was part of that, you know, and so yeah, yeah, this is this is
- 10:52[SPEAKER_05]: All right, we're going to talk about when the dolphins have the ball.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_05]: Look, this is a good defense.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_05]: I think we knew it was going to be a good defense last year.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_05]: I think Miami had a lot of success against it.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_05]: In Miami, the second time around when they had tour, talking about a loa, and they were up against Drake May.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_05]: Drake May did not have a good game.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_05]: He was a rookie.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_05]: But,
- 11:11[SPEAKER_05]: You know, this defense is much improved.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_05]: It was good last year I thought, but Miami had a lot of success against it last year.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_05]: It was mostly through the passing game.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_05]: I guess you can say maybe you like his Buffalo game better, but two of the throw for 320 and 4 touchdowns against England and was relatively clean, did not put the ball in harm's way.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_05]: That was a team to play a lot of man coverage.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_05]: So maybe two of us helped in that regard What kind of defense are they going to see this time around Simon?
- 11:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think it'll be so I mean that's what variable is done best two or so into against variable You get back to 2023 the times just to convey all of two is kind of hotspots by playing
- 11:52[SPEAKER_02]: to to save these over the top, the Paul runner, they used Alani who've grown pretty sure in that game as the Paul runner to sort of take away those kind of daggers concepts that we like so much middle of the field between the numbers, you know, and and I think you go back and look at the all 22 type of last week and there are some extreme heat instructive things there, the more you watch it in terms of
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: you know, the blitzing that Luana Roma did not, we talked about it a lot in the last week's show, not a particularly competitive, not a complessor on where, not a particularly aggressive blitzer, and he blitz so much because he just knew that.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: He does blitz fakes, like, you know, kind of impresses and all those sorts of things, but he was sending guys left for our centre, we couldn't handle it.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: I think we've discussed this off there and we've discussed this in our discord, but, you know, the pre-snap, the lack of pre-snap recognition from tour was extremely worrying in that game multiple times where blitzes were coming and nothing happened, there were no changes, we were carrying out play action fakes when HM was supposed to be blocking blitzers and not doing it, nothing was identified pre-snap.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_02]: That was a huge concern.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I think, you know, pressure.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_02]: will be one thing, and the Patriot certainly had a very good job at an extremely good job of that last week.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_02]: I remember you had two and a half sex, but they had 22 pressures last week, which is a phenomenal number.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: And our offensive line, I don't think held up particularly well.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: I thought Paul played very well with a little brewer played well.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody else really struggled, and now we're playing with Larry Borne and Key on Smith on that right side.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: That to me would be a huge
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: emphasis factor as to, okay, we might be in some, some trouble here against a defense that played pretty well in terms of pressurised in the past.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: So they gave up at 389 yards through the air, but they were outstanding against the run.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: 19 carries a 309 yards for Western Gen T. So, you know, they were the, I think they're the fifth best team against the run and they're in the league, really held the raiders run game in check.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_02]: I was very, very physical
- 13:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that, you know, to shut down the offense, you sort of take away the head of the stake, you don't want to be getting in with it if you're the patriot's defense.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's not what happened against Indy.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's indicative of something that Omar talked about in the press conference to a really wasn't having, that those intersections, those turnovers, they do come in bunches when he's not in rhythm.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: And you see him being knocked out of rhythm.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: by the fact that the early throws the early script.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: You know when two have started six for six or seven for seven or eight for nine, and everything is zinging, everything is but you know he's going to be fine.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be a good day.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_02]: But when it's a little bit off, it's you know there's a pick.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_02]: There's a this, there's the that, there's a sack.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: There's a pressure we go three and out, whatever.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: That's when those interceptions start to come because he just for whatever reason.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: From the neck up, it just seems to be a problem.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: And it was a huge problem last week, Chris, and we've got to kind of try and get away from that.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_04]: Well, if the defense coordinator has a beat on, you know, they always say take away the first street and it's at a forever and ever and ever.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, sometimes good luck because that's easier said than done, taking away Miami's first street.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_04]: But I think that when you went teams and defenses get a beat on that and actually, you know, our on top of their film study
- 15:07[SPEAKER_04]: for taking away that first read.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_04]: That is when you'll see it right away and you see it throughout the game.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_04]: Like, and there's uncomfortable to a uncomfortable to a definitely struck this weekend.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_04]: There was no excuse for the way that he performed in that game, particularly the pre-snap and being able to identify pre-snap has been where he's been good in the past, right?
- 15:30[SPEAKER_04]: And because that's part of the reason that you can get to his intended read,
- 15:35[SPEAKER_04]: Um, is because he's so good pre-staffed and he's able to anticipate and he's able to manipulate the defense in order to get to the guy that he wants and things like that.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_04]: He had none of that in that game and I find very little excuse for it.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_04]: Except that, you know, I floated the idea of perhaps he's somehow diminished or just didn't have the right off season that he needed to have to be prepared and ready to roll in the beginning of this season.
- 16:03[SPEAKER_04]: But I think that whether they play man or zone, I don't know, I think Hassan Patel part of our crew here was talking about, they didn't play a lot of zone in the first week, I think, if I heard him right, so maybe it could be a little less predictable during the game.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_04]: What I do know is the pressure situation is really fierce with this team.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_04]: Obviously, they got the 22 pressures last week, but it's not just that.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_04]: It's the person that look at Milton Williams and what he can do against our interior guys.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_04]: And we're now going to have a right side with Keon Smith, out and a right side of Larry Borham, you know, also out less out, but still out.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_04]: I think he and Smith at the right guard is definitely bullseye.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to put a bullseye on that guy.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_04]: And then Jonah Savayania, you know, as much as we'd like him, he's a rookie.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_04]: And he's not identifying everything.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_04]: And doesn't always have the communication with all frankly, all he can't only burn up, so I mean, they didn't have any communication.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_04]: on the offensive line with or anywhere else, or anywhere else, right?
- 17:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, you're right, it was, it was abysmal.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, they're, they're really going to, I mean, they got to, to Miami with the blitzes that they did do, with a lot of, you know, several times those DB blitzes, we're just not identified, we're just not picked up, we're not, you know, accounted for it all.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_04]: Well, if you didn't do that last week against the cults, then you're going to hate it this week.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_04]: You know, against the, against the, against the New England Patriots, because they will do that more.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_04]: And they did already do that more.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_04]: And so you'll see, you'll see some of that.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_04]: And that pressure situation, that could be deadly.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_04]: And it could absolutely be deadly against this team.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_04]: So, you know, it's normally, normally I call a bounce back.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_04]: I said this off air.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_04]: Normally, I would call a, I give particular difference to offenses that have personnel that have been together for a while.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_04]: Because years and years of being together, you have a lot of unspoken communication and shared understanding to where you, you know, you can lock it in and bounce back.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not sure that Miami's offense based on what I saw last week has an end of the bounce back.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_04]: And I sure as I don't think the defense has an end of the bounce back.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_04]: So this is going to be tough to deal with that pressure situation.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_04]: If they can't get the ball out fast and then they're toast.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think I have to run the ball a lot and I would be heavy, run, commit and it wouldn't just be banging a channel for 15 times if we were only good and even seize the field.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: It would be a healthy, heavy dose of Gordon, I mean, I mean, you know, I know that somewhere you wouldn't be hitting Gordon early.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: tiring them out and then booming a channel the second half, you know, if this is a 25-30 carry game, I don't mess the end of the world quite frankly, and I think it speaks to, again, something that all you can talk about is that we are not, um,
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: Flexible in terms of how we can maneuver our way around the board of a game offensively.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: We sort of stick very much to the script and we, you know, to it is an extremely inflexible quarterback.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_02]: And by turn, the offense then becomes extremely inflexible.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think at some point a commitment to the run and it's hard to say you're down 17 nothing on the road against Indianapolis, but you know, even to just chill everybody out a little bit and put a sustained drive together and get some points on the board and let everybody get to the sign line think, okay, we're okay, we're okay, you know, those sorts of things run and just continually pass pass pass pass pass pass at with all the things that are happening peripherally.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: the lack of communication, the pressures that were coming, the inability to identify things pre-snap, the inability to identify eight dropers post-snap.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_02]: Those things were extremely worrying.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah, I do have the same concerns as you'd request.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_04]: counterpoint, counterpoint, if they focus on stopping the run early, you know, if the New England Patriots, if they focus on stopping the run early, they know they're not going to have to stop the run late.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, against this team, right?
- 20:33[SPEAKER_04]: So it's not even, you know, from a game planning standpoint, if they're, if they're able to, to do some things early to stop the run, and particularly with Miami's defense as, you know,
- 20:46[SPEAKER_04]: terrible as it looked last week.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_04]: If they succeed in some early, early portions of the game and stopping the run, which they did largely against Jenty, you mentioned it, right?
- 21:00[SPEAKER_04]: And they know they're not going to have to do it late.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_04]: And so you got to wonder,
- 21:08[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, a little bit of news for this gang Christian Gonzalez likely not going to play.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_05]: He hasn't practiced in a month.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_05]: So yeah, it would be hilarious if he just runs out there on Sunday.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I hope for you hope for everybody's sake that he's not playing because again, as we discussed probably the second best peer,
- 21:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, an absolute malling on the road in Indianapolis.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to see an, you know, all pro caliber corner coming out of the city.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and Kyle Dougher has been demoted.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_05]: If you watch that game, he's been demoted on on their team and.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_05]: He won't be on their team much, much longer.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_05]: You made it, Kevin.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_05]: That's nice.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: Just before we had a break.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: No, I just want to mention, because actually, I was just looking at my variables, press conference.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_02]: And Ray will said, you know, they have a fallback that has versatility and play on the inner line of scrimmage motions.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_02]: Usually, every, and this is really important.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: Usually, every big running player they have, he is in the heart of the run game.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_02]: He is somewhere near it.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: And that, to me, goes back to the very first player
- 22:19[SPEAKER_02]: You know, two backs there, I formation, in gold actually crushed a lionmaker, open up a big hole for HN, nine yard pickup.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think I counted another run player, I don't know if you guys did, where we ran out of that formation, you know, in gold was motioning back in and split his own staff and all that kind of thing, but not actually just purely blocking a part from the short yard is only Gordon Run.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember any other times I was just like, you know,
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: kind of the equivalent of an old fashioned boss block, you know, just the full back coming in, just smacking somebody in the mouth and leading the way.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, when you've got like variable, they hate coach saying that this guy is an unbelievable full back and it does this perfectly and we never do it.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_02]: They kind of just highlights the proper right.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_05]: Well, somebody posted a chart of every single run and it was 12.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_05]: You know, they had 11 successful runs, meaning 11 above league average for the week in yards per carry.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_05]: They had three over
- 23:17[SPEAKER_05]: So they actually had success.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_05]: The only problem is they ran it ten times.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_04]: And well, I think that the most egregious is Simon mentioned the short yardage with Allie Gordon.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_04]: The very next play, they're on there with 22 personnel, two tight ends, and Alec Engel.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_04]: Your boy Alec Engel is on the field.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_04]: It's 22 personnel.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_04]: You're against their nickel and it's first and then.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to get a 5B fence of backs on the field.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_04]: And you've got 22 tight ends and a full
- 23:43[SPEAKER_04]: and ram it down the throats.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look, we ran two back groupings at the second highest rate in the NFL last season.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, was it 30 point, 8% or 30% or 30% or something?
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: If you're going to pre-stand a three-quarter nickel against our big groupings, then we're going to run it all over.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: But if you play heavier defensive personnel, three safety nickel or base or whatever, you're going to leave you some fun of all to those there's receivers match online backers and safeties.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: And it goes back.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I'm sorry that we keep talking about only colliding, you wrote a piece about the dolphins offensively,
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: There was a particular situation where we had literally man to Maniso in three receivers set on one side and Tana Connor with three defensive essentially blitz has lined up over him and we didn't check out of what was coming.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: I either blitz to the fact that arguably the fastest is still the fastest receiving the NFL is literally one on one on the outside against the backup corner.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: We didn't nothing about it until we got crunch by Nick Cross, so you know it's
- 24:38[SPEAKER_02]: There are lots of challenges facing this offense this week, and one of them has got to be what happens before the ball even comes out of the hand of Aaron Brewing to do his hand.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_04]: It was so perplexing that you wonder, like, can you turn that around?
- 24:51[SPEAKER_04]: What?
- 24:51[SPEAKER_04]: What was that?
- 24:52[SPEAKER_04]: What even was that?
- 24:55[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it was complete incompetence and a meltdown that that
- 24:59[SPEAKER_05]: It happens, you know, most teams have one or two meltdowns of the season.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_05]: Let's just see it week one.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_02]: That level of our preparedness given everything that had been managed.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_02]: We've been hammered home through the summer.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_02]: I just think that's different.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_02]: There are obvious team meltdowns throughout season.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: Even Super champions have them.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_02]: The Eagles had a bad game last year.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: The Chiefs of notorious have had bad game.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: This was different, this was an unpreparedness and an embarrassment across the bull coaching players.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_02]: And I think he's epitomized by the fact that we've had a player's only meeting in week one.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: Week one.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_04]: Which I, that was, that didn't just get out played.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_04]: They didn't just get out played in other words.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_04]: Like they, they were not on top of their stuff.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to at the the the the lectern saying that he's going to be very interested on Tuesday.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to be coming in and watching film and doing that.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: But was a damning indictment.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: To me of the situation and.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_02]: Some people said, well, maybe it was taking out context and it might have been, but I think the context now that we know there was a player's only meeting is real and there are significant, and it's the death now, it's the death now, it's the death now tonight, my Daniel, it really is.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_04]: And also, you know, the fact that two is saying that and, you know, bless him for saying that, right?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_04]: But also he was not the one that was on his on top of his stuff.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_04]: No, he was what he was the one that looked almost the most unprepared of anybody on either side of the ball.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to break right now, but before we do let me tell you about factor.

- 30:05[SPEAKER_04]: Actually, and those are the practices and stuff.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_05]: All right, when the dolphins are on defense, that wasn't very that wasn't even good last time either So there's like nothing to hang you.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_05]: Well, I guess Riley Patterson's okay Did you know that you Riley Patterson Oh the kicker did even did even go on to the field last week?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_05]: No, right?
- 30:29[SPEAKER_04]: No, because we hit the two two point conversion, right?
- 30:31[SPEAKER_05]: No, and Bailey killed it.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, yeah, I didn't No, Bailey kicked off.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_05]: No, it was Bailey to keep me on fire
- 30:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he did already.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_04]: He did already.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, he's pretty good.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, he was pretty good last week.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_05]: Well, the defense has a lot to do this week, meaning play defense.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_05]: How about that?
- 30:56[SPEAKER_05]: Drake may.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_05]: This is not Patel Chet shared a number with me that I found fascinating for an offense that wasn't that good last week.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_05]: He had 3.8 yards.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_05]: I mean 3.8 seconds from snap to throw last week, which meant the Raiders were getting him off the spot and he was essentially bailing on the pocket and throwing on the run a lot and I guess that's how the Raiders got some success.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_05]: So I guess we're back to this again.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_05]: We said it last week, if you could get drink me off of his spot, that's half of the battle already one.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_05]: That's how they had success against him last year and that's how teams last year had success against that Patriot offense, which is much improved on the offensive line mostly.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_05]: But the weapons kind of have the same look.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_05]: I really like the Mario Douglass and I understand it's the fun digs is there.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_05]: But the fun digs is probably on the way out.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_05]: Tomorrow Douglass is a hell of a player.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_05]: They don't have to be on their pees and cues watching him wherever he goes.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_05]: I was also kind of shocked to learn that and have the snap count here somewhere, but it was in the 40s for Ramande, Stevenson, and Traveon Anderson only had 20s subs.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_05]: I would expect that to be reversed eventually.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_05]: And soon, what do you make of this Patriots' offense, Simon, mainly Drake may, but what have they put around him?
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: So, you sure on Boote was the style last week.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, 100 yards, I believe, right?
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, tomorrow I don't miss fusing to the, you're great.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm not having a go at you.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I say you're great.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_02]: How to call a comment.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: But keep your Boote to have seven passes for minus two yards.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's big and weak one.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_02]: So, which is one of the weirdest stat lines I've ever ever covered across.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_02]: But what do I think is right?
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's really interesting because I think that when we played them last year.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm bootated that, though.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_04]: Did you mean, did you mean tomorrow?
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, sorry.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: I meant tomorrow.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: I just did that.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I was just going to say we just got done saying like a hundred-year-old game.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_02]: No, but it's how the 100-yard game did they?
- 33:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, but yeah.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_04]: Like the two for negative.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that asked if he really loved Demora Douglas.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: So I was just saying, yeah, the weirdest time for you.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_02]: I was also asleep.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so, um.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: What I think was interesting in the game last year, obviously, we creepers, simple pressures, that's what we've been known for, so I was known for in Baltimore, kind of spinning the dial on those sorts of things.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think we generated unblocked blitzers at a highest rate in the NFL since the start of the 2024 season.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_02]: What I think the new offensive scheme will do and has done by looking at the cursor look at the old 22 with Joshua Daniels, who's obviously back, is the goal is for Drake made to essentially recognise Blitz's let's and change the protection.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to be something we talked about in the first half.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_02]: Pre-snap to make sure everybody's blocked rather than executing those kind of posts and app hot reads that he was having to do last year when we played them against unblock rushers.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_02]: are blocked again in terms of their front trying to get home as we were last week.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_02]: So dramatically against the cult, as we know the secondary is just not good enough.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_02]: They know Jack Jones really well, he obviously played with the Patriots.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that the bonus for us would be that this is a match against a young court of incorporating a new system.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_02]: So he'd expect we
- 34:28[SPEAKER_02]: then you'd expect that against substandard court back in down to Jones and that didn't happen.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: What I would expect massively, and we talked about it, Miami, I would also expect the pages to be run in the ball and awful lot, you know, with Stevenson, but especially, I don't need any good enough job last week, he can get in trouble and Henderson's the game.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_02]: I would expect a heavy dose of the Ohio State rookie both catching and run in the ball.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_04]: So I think speaking of, I'll start with your last one on Travee and Henderson because with his speed, something that I think is going to happen on IMEs, I think Dante Trader is going to play a lot more.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_04]: I think that he was one of the few, you know, positive points of the defense last week.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_04]: I think that, you know, when it comes to young guys with, with Anthony Weaver's defense, the future is is always going to be pulled forward to now.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_04]: You know, for for those young guys, when especially when the guys in front of them are just not doing it, they're not playing very well, then they're going to say, well, we might as well get the young guys on the field and start to start really, you know, getting their feet wet and getting them going so I think Jordan Phillips is going to play a lot more and not just because Dito Jones is is out of the game.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_04]: I think that Dante Trader is going to play a lot more.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_04]: The interesting thing to watch with Dante Trader is going to be how aggressive he can be with his, you know, he does have good instincts.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_04]: But if somebody else fails, you know, in terms of the defense, in terms of
- 36:04[SPEAKER_04]: It can really expose him because he doesn't have the athleticism to switch into change gears and to change angles, to re-angle on the ball.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_04]: And if you don't have the athleticism to re-angle on Travian Henderson, he is gone.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so so I think that I think that that is something to watch in that in that run game of theirs with travy and Henderson.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_04]: You know, otherwise, I think that I think that you know, you kind of said it.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_04]: I think that if you're going to try to move Drake may off the spot.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_04]: You're going to try to.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_04]: You know, you're going to try to be a little bit more physical with some of these receivers.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_04]: And again, I don't know if Miami has the ability to do that, which, you know, is sad, but yeah.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that the running game with them is going to be very important.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_04]: Second week in a row, I'm saying this.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_04]: I realize that I wonder about the tight ends with, you know, with Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper last week.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_04]: It was clearly Tyler Warren and Moile Cox made a big play.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_04]: You know, that's going to be that's going to be there for for the New England Patriots against the Dolphins this week.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_04]: So if if if the New England Patriots can make things easy for Drake may because the dolphins are allowing them to.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_04]: By getting the ball to, you know, those guys underneath and off play action and things like that and they're just going to take it, you know, they're they're going to take that all day.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_04]: and not allowed such free access into the holes in their zone.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_04]: So actually play tighter zone and not lose their assignment constantly.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_04]: Somebody was losing their assignment.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_04]: Unvirtually, every play at last week.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_04]: And so getting on top of that is going to be such a big deal.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_04]: But otherwise, that's kind of the one thing that I would say that wouldn't surprise me if it develops during the game, though, is a travian Henderson big rock.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_04]: victimizing some of the players out there for their lack of discipline and some others for lack of speed.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, the more I look at this and and I spoke about this last week coming off of that game that you know if you're looking for quick fixes usually there is done okay there are no quick fixes but you could go a long way to remedying some of their issues by just doing very simple things like playing a lot more man, man coverage.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_05]: Last week, you could almost see it, like they competed sometimes when they were in man.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_05]: Mostly when it was down to the red zone is whenever they had their successful plays, but they gave up to ghost at that point because you're giving up points every single time they got down there.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_05]: But in zone, it just looked to me like a team that had no clue what's
- 39:10[SPEAKER_05]: when the cults weren't threatening you deep.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_05]: And this is the team that's probably not going to threaten you deep either.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_05]: And if you start allowing all that space underneath, Drake may I have seen get very comfortable taking, check down, taking, you know, option routes, because he could throw a lot of those things.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_05]: He could throw, he could throw back shoulder, he could throw into those, into those voids in the zone and be extremely successful.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_05]: That's when he's had his best games.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_05]: When he's had his worst games, it's when he is moving off the stop.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_05]: Spot, just like last week.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_05]: And I think the only way you can accomplish that is by playing man and taking a little bit more risk and possibly opening yourself up to the deep wall somewhere, which I don't think there's a big threat of
- 39:54[SPEAKER_05]: with this team.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_05]: I think the big threat with this team is whatever they give up underneath and allowing some of those guys to be just running around with the football.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_05]: Namely, Treveyon Henderson is who I fear the most.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_05]: And I do feel that fear that they're going to switch those snap counts from Remandre to Treveyon this week.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_05]: It's inevitable at this point in my
- 40:18[SPEAKER_04]: You trust you trust Brazil, Douglas, and, uh, and, man, like, again, against this team because I'm just saying with help with help and I trust them and you don't know if you can get granted, just he's not a man colonized, never been a man coloner.
- 40:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, because that's that's your damn if you do if you damn and damn if you don't for the Miami Dolphins defense.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_04]: If you play man, that's good for Jack Jones.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_04]: That's not good for a soul Douglas.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_04]: If you play his own, then you're you're getting more comfortable with the result or a better comfort zone for a soul Douglas, especially if he spends this week really getting on top of the scheme because he didn't seem like you.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_04]: There's a reason he didn't
- 40:57[SPEAKER_04]: He wasn't going to play much last week until Storm.got hurt.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_04]: And I think the reason is because he just got here, he literally just got here, he's learning the defense.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_04]: If he got really on top of it this week on the game plan, really on top of new his assignments, then you could make a case for him settling down in zone.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_04]: But if they're playing a lot of man, I'm not sure I trust that, even if he does get on
- 41:27[SPEAKER_04]: But it would help Jack Jones, then again, is Jack Jones worth helping because we're not, listen, this guy was unemployed heading in the training camp for a reason.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_04]: And so, you know, I think that it's really, it's a really caught, you know, caught between a rock and a hard place, I think.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_05]: So we're on now to when the Dolphins are on defense and the Patriots have the ball, where do you see where Miami can gain some success against the Patriots, and it's weird saying this, but emulate some of the stuff that Las Vegas did successfully last week, Simon.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Los Angeles did socially throwing the ball because they've got a bad call back in Gino Smith.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_02]: I think Miami is going to have to try and establish the wrong game.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: And if they do say that will open up, you know.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_02]: getting the ball out and getting the ball down the field.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to be throwing into the middle of the field, but I suspect that's what's going to happen.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: I hope that home field advantage plays into it and the dolphins hit their stride early.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_02]: But I think they'll catch a break with that Gonzalez being there.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_02]: The problem with being able to drop back and throw and getting the ball down the field to get I mean, was it a year now, since Tariah's got a
- 42:42[SPEAKER_02]: Court of 30 plus Yard Pass is the fact that the left side of the offensive line has got the recipe for absolute and unequivocal disaster in all over it.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I think they're probably going to have to keep her, you know, a tight end in.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to have to do a lot of stuff to make sure that that doesn't recover a huge issue, especially when you're facing the guy Howard Landry had two and a half sex against a significantly better side of the offensive line than he did, than he's going to come up against this weekend.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_02]: So that would be my concern Chris.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think that we're talking about how can Miami have some success in visioning it.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_04]: It is clearly the run game and it's for many reasons, but not least of which because of that right side as you said, you know, Larry Borham and Keyon Smith, you know, I think that when you're facing with that, the thing that they can still do kind of is run block.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_04]: The thing that I don't trust either of them to do is pass protect the thing that I'm not really trusting right now is to in the passing game based on how I played last week and how unprepared he was.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_04]: And so, you know, this is going to come down to you go ahead and you go ahead and you flex your run coordinator skills.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_04]: Get the ball to the outside.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, over the left side, get it out and get it outside, over the left side, up the middle, everything.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_04]: Like they're gonna have to do all of that.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_04]: I tend to think with this defense that they can get the outsides, but then again, you know, the raiders didn't necessarily.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_04]: So, but I think that, you know, find a way of like a run coordinator skills and just stay committed to that and just do it over and over and over again, because that's probably just your best bet.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_05]: All right.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_05]: It's time to pick the game.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_05]: Look, they look like dog shit last week against the, against the, the cult traditionally, especially to a, as always bounce back in a big way after looking like like dog shit after last week.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_05]: I can't envision this team looking any worse than they did last week.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_05]: They're at home.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_05]: I still think it'll be a slog.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_05]: Although we've had a lot of success against this team and they've actually have a string of blowouts against the Patriots.
- 45:01[SPEAKER_05]: I believe it's four in a row by by two scores, especially in Miami.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_05]: I think this will be a slog.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_05]: That's called it Miami 24 Patriots 21.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_05]: Simon.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_05]: New England 20 in Miami 16.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: Chris?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I would normally want to go with a bounce back, but it, I'm sorry, when you have a performance that bad, it takes you a while to dig out of it.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_04]: It does this, I've seen, I've seen a lot in this league.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_04]: It takes you a while to dig out of that performance.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_04]: That was very much akin to how to 2019 started.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_04]: And 2019 started, you know, a certain way it was our tank year and and you say, well, we're not tanking and stuff like that, but.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_04]: that it is how you played.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_04]: So I think that they're going to be outmatched again.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_04]: And this is going to be something like 26 to 13 or something like that.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's not going to, it's going to take a while to dig out of this.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_04]: It really is, all right.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_05]: And that's it.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_05]: There is no more.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_05]: We will talk about the results of this game on Monday, but till then.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for listening to three yards per catty.
