- 0:11Speaker 1: hurdles of sorts by leaning in to wellness. Emily a
- 0:15Speaker 1: body here. In today's episode, I'm gonna be chatting with
- 0:18Speaker 1: beck Donlin. She is a total boss babe, a personal
- 0:22Speaker 1: trainer living here in New York City and part of
- 0:26Speaker 1: the duo behind Go Basic and Edibles brand with some
- 0:30Speaker 1: really delicious chocolate and some other good things that we'll
- 0:33Speaker 1: get into it a little bit. First and foremost, I
- 0:35Speaker 1: want to give a shout out to my sponsor, Athletic Greens.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I got tagged in so many screenshops this week of
- 0:42Speaker 1: you guys buying your own Athletic Greens, and one of
- 0:45Speaker 1: the questions I got from a listener named Sarah is
- 0:49Speaker 1: if I ever mix it with anything aside from water.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I don't personally, I'm a ten to twelve ounces of
- 0:55Speaker 1: water shaken up in the morning first thing kind of girl.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But I have heard about people sitting in smoothie. So
- 1:01Speaker 1: if you're going to put the greens powder, which has
- 1:03Speaker 1: twelve servings of essential fruits and vegetables into your morning smoothie.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Let me know what tastes, let me know how you
- 1:09Speaker 1: like it. I'd love to share it with all of
- 1:11Speaker 1: the hurdlers out there. Good news if you haven't gotten

- 1:36Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about Beck Downlin. If you want
- 1:39Speaker 1: to build your booty, be's your girl. She relocated to
- 1:43Speaker 1: the US from Australia in twenty thirteen, and she really
- 1:46Speaker 1: has built a name for herself as the designer of
- 1:49Speaker 1: darriers for lack of a better term. She sells and
- 1:53Speaker 1: makes her own loop resistance vans. You can buy those
- 1:55Speaker 1: at sweat with BECKNYC dot com. And she works with
- 1:59Speaker 1: everyone and from Victoria's Secret Models to man I'm sure
- 2:02Speaker 1: a bunch of you listening to the pod today. But
- 2:05Speaker 1: in twenty seventeen she hit a hurdle moment of sorts.
- 2:08Speaker 1: She was teaching an insane amount up to five group
- 2:12Speaker 1: fitness classes forty five personal training clients a week when
- 2:17Speaker 1: she was sidelined with back to back injuries. She broke
- 2:20Speaker 1: her foot, she had a little knife incident in the kitchen,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and then she also bulged a disc in her back,
- 2:26Speaker 1: throwing her into intense pain. That's when she leaned into CBD.
- 2:31Speaker 1: She teamed up with a friend of hers to create
- 2:33Speaker 1: what is now called Go Basic and that's an edible's
- 2:37Speaker 1: brand with super simple ingredients. Right now, they sell edible
- 2:41Speaker 1: chocolates as well as protein balls, and she gives us
- 2:44Speaker 1: a tip on this episode about what's next to come. FYI,
- 2:49Speaker 1: it sounds super delicious and really exciting. Beck's got a
- 2:52Speaker 1: lot of personality. She loves to promote her brand, which
- 2:56Speaker 1: is fitness without the VS pretty much. She's not going
- 3:00Speaker 1: to tell you not to drink. She's not going to
- 3:01Speaker 1: tell you not to have fun. She's just going to
- 3:04Speaker 1: tell you that you've got to work hard if you
- 3:05Speaker 1: want to have it all. And I love that about her.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Make sure as you're listening today, you're posting the takeaways
- 3:11Speaker 1: that you love on Instagram. Connect with me over there
- 3:14Speaker 1: at Hurdle podcast also at Hurdle Podcasts on Facebook and Twitter.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I feel like it's been for ever since I've checked
- 3:20Speaker 1: in with you guys, even though it's just been seven days.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I've been traveling a lot from Spain to Paris to
- 3:27Speaker 1: Aspen this week. If you've been keeping up and I've
- 3:30Speaker 1: been having a really great time, I would be lying
- 3:32Speaker 1: though if I didn't say that, I'm so amped, so
- 3:36Speaker 1: amped to be in New York City for a ten
- 3:38Speaker 1: day stretch right now and do the simple things like
- 3:40Speaker 1: run and go to hot yoga at lions Den and
- 3:43Speaker 1: catch up with my friends and sit at my weework desk.
- 3:48Speaker 1: It sounds silly, but it's the simple things that just
- 3:51Speaker 1: make me feel so me. As always, if you need anything,
- 3:55Speaker 1: shoot me an email at Emily at hurdle dot us.
- 3:59Speaker 1: A quick delay. Congrats to everyone here in the city
- 4:02Speaker 1: that conquered the New York City Half Marathon last weekend.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I was out there to you and for you guys,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and you looked fabulous. Also, can't forget to shout out
- 4:10Speaker 1: the LA Marathon runners. I was following you all on
- 4:12Speaker 1: social yesterday and you looked great doing the damn thing.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I think that's it. Let's get to hurdling today. I'm
- 4:25Speaker 1: sitting here with beck Donlin. How would you describe yourself back?
- 4:29Speaker 1: I love sometimes I feel like I go to describe
- 4:31Speaker 1: people for them and I just you can do it
- 4:33Speaker 1: so much better than me.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I like saying that, but then I always laugh because
- 4:36Speaker 2: I always get people to describe me as well, because
- 4:38Speaker 2: I'm like, wait, there's so many different things now.
- 4:40Speaker 3: So back in the day, I would say just a
- 4:42Speaker 3: personal trainer.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Now we say personal training slash like health and wellness
- 4:47Speaker 2: multi half of it, entrepreneur kind of slash slide hustle queen.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So I've got a lot of stuff going on, I.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Know, but I feel like your side hustle is the
- 4:56Speaker 1: main hustle. It is the hustle. So Avi by your voice,
- 5:00Speaker 1: you can tell you're not from here. It's a fun
- 5:03Speaker 1: thing about a podcast. It's the first thing that people
- 5:05Speaker 1: want to know. So where are you from?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Back from Melbourne, Australia. So I've been here for six years.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Congrats Friday. I know it's great.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Do you like it?
- 5:14Speaker 3: I do love it. I love the New York Castle.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I really love that aspect of it. Obviously, I miss nature,
- 5:19Speaker 3: Like who wouldn't.
- 5:20Speaker 2: But that's why I make sure I travel a lot,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you know, yeah New York, so I don't become a
- 5:24Speaker 2: crazy New Yorker if I leave every six weeks or so.
- 5:26Speaker 2: But if I stay any longer than that, all of
- 5:28Speaker 2: a sudden, I like get a bit short and a
- 5:29Speaker 2: bit weird.
- 5:30Speaker 3: I'm like, Okay, I gotta go. I need to hike.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Use something like that.
- 5:32Speaker 1: You gotta go. I mean I can relate to that.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Beck and I before we started chatting on the record
- 5:37Speaker 1: today we're both talking about our insane travel schedules, also
- 5:41Speaker 1: our mutual feeling of just liking to be able to
- 5:45Speaker 1: do all the things we want to do by ourselves.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I think this is an entrepreneur thing. It's like, you
- 5:50Speaker 1: just want all this control and you don't know, you
- 5:53Speaker 1: don't want to have to rely on anyone for anything,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and it makes me antsy same.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And I think what it is about that is you've
- 5:59Speaker 2: put so much f into building your brand and too
- 6:01Speaker 2: building everything, and you've done it all by yourself, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 2: and then you get to the point where you need
- 6:05Speaker 2: to grow and then you have to enlist help. But
- 6:07Speaker 2: you're like, wait, I've done it so far, so well,
- 6:09Speaker 2: I've pulled my whole life into it.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Now I've got to trust someone and hope for the best.
- 6:13Speaker 3: It's it's the worst.
- 6:14Speaker 1: It's one of the best pieces of advice that I
- 6:16Speaker 1: feel like I'm given time and time again. Rachel Dury
- 6:19Speaker 1: from Daily Harvest was recently on the podcast and she
- 6:22Speaker 1: said to me that she always hires people that are
- 6:24Speaker 1: smarter than her, and I think that's I mean, it's
- 6:28Speaker 1: an excellent piece of advice, but it also speaks to
- 6:30Speaker 1: this idea that when you're trying to build something, at
- 6:33Speaker 1: some point, sooner or later, you're going to have to
- 6:35Speaker 1: go a little bit.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 6:37Speaker 2: My thing last year was, okay, right, I'm going to
- 6:39Speaker 2: recognize what I'm not good at, which is many things, okay,
- 6:43Speaker 2: believe it or not, and then work out the tasks
- 6:47Speaker 2: that I procrastinate the most on, or things that take
- 6:49Speaker 2: me the longest, or just like a mental block on,
- 6:51Speaker 2: and then get someone to do those tasks and fill
- 6:54Speaker 2: those voids. And that's how I started, and that actually
- 6:56Speaker 2: really helped because it made such a difference because instantly,
- 6:58Speaker 2: now I'm not thinking twice about things, I'm not wasting
- 7:01Speaker 2: time and that's okay.
- 7:02Speaker 1: All right, So personal trainer, were you always super in
- 7:06Speaker 1: to help and fitness.
- 7:07Speaker 3: No, not at all.
- 7:09Speaker 1: So give me a little backstory. Get let's get to know.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Back This is a big story. No, no, no, I like
- 7:15Speaker 2: to talk, so you're lucky. So I never liked sport
- 7:19Speaker 2: growing up. I was not into health and wellness at all.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I liked being healthy. I really loved food facts, I
- 7:24Speaker 2: loved doing all that type of stuff. But going to
- 7:26Speaker 2: the like playing sport and like doing physical fitness things
- 7:30Speaker 2: for me was really intimidating. I was like the fashion
- 7:34Speaker 2: artsy girl at school. Okay, I was a floater. I
- 7:38Speaker 2: like had many friends. I was like kind of just
- 7:39Speaker 2: friends with everybody generally, but I wasn't like in a click.
- 7:42Speaker 2: I wasn't in like the sporting crew everything like that.
- 7:44Speaker 2: So for me, sport had a bit of a stigma. Like,
- 7:47Speaker 2: for example, like I played tennis. My parents put me
- 7:50Speaker 2: in tennis lessons for two years and I don't think
- 7:52Speaker 2: I ever played a game because I'm like, no, no,
- 7:54Speaker 2: it's too much pressure.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I can't handle it. And then I remember.
- 7:57Speaker 2: When I was in year nine so like fourteen, and
- 8:00Speaker 2: had to pick a sport for school, and I'm like,
- 8:01Speaker 2: oh my god, what am.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I going to do?
- 8:03Speaker 2: And so I picked field hockey because the outfits were
- 8:05Speaker 2: really cute. And then I remember it was like the
- 8:08Speaker 2: first day and the coach was like, okay, Beg, you
- 8:10Speaker 2: can like carry the equipment was and that was like
- 8:13Speaker 2: my last tone because I told him to like get
- 8:15Speaker 2: fucked and threw it all across the spot and then
- 8:18Speaker 2: I walked away. So that was my schooling sporting experience.
- 8:21Speaker 2: It's about the extent of it. And then when I
- 8:24Speaker 2: hit like eighteen nineteen, I'm like, I love the gym.
- 8:27Speaker 2: The gym's amazing because it was just against me. It's
- 8:29Speaker 2: no pressure, it's not like that, because in my head
- 8:32Speaker 2: it was like that big like Broie douchebaggy vibe.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Of like playing a sport.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Bex podcast is officially explicit. Sorry, no, it's fine. I'm
- 8:42Speaker 1: cool with it being explicit. It doesn't bother me.
- 8:44Speaker 3: It's showing passion. I think.
- 8:47Speaker 1: The more expletives you throw into the world.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Exactly when I was nineteen, I really got into the
- 8:51Speaker 2: gym because it was just me.
- 8:52Speaker 3: It was my own time.
- 8:53Speaker 2: It was a really good mental release and I absolutely
- 8:55Speaker 2: loved it. So I loved going to the gym. I
- 8:58Speaker 2: love nutrition facts. I loved all that stuff. And then
- 9:01Speaker 2: I was working in fashion, and then I went to hospitality,
- 9:03Speaker 2: so I was definitely not in fitness. And then I
- 9:07Speaker 2: kind of had this like well moment where I'm like, wait,
- 9:09Speaker 2: I'm so obsessed with nutrition facts, I'm so obsessed with
- 9:12Speaker 2: people's allergies and how they do this and like random
- 9:15Speaker 2: things like that that I'm like, wait, I think I
- 9:17Speaker 2: finally understand that whole like what are you passionate about things?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Because I'd never had that before. I'd never had that
- 9:21Speaker 2: with any role or career I'd chosen. And then I
- 9:25Speaker 2: also realized that every single one of my friends in hospitality,
- 9:28Speaker 2: everyone in pr everyone like the socialites and this and that,
- 9:31Speaker 2: because I was like working with like we had crazy lives.
- 9:34Speaker 3: It was very much a party based life.
- 9:36Speaker 2: But everyone would not want to go near the gym
- 9:39Speaker 2: or do anything because they'd just be like, ew, chicken
- 9:41Speaker 2: and broccoli and ill fake tans because that's all they
- 9:43Speaker 2: associated it with. So there was nothing really for the
- 9:46Speaker 2: party goer, for the socialite, for the person that wants
- 9:49Speaker 2: to do both and wants to have a bit of fun.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But it doesn't have to be this complete, like all encompassing,
- 9:55Speaker 2: like you don't have to commit to the meal plan
- 9:57Speaker 2: every single dage.
- 9:58Speaker 3: I mean, you can do both.
- 9:59Speaker 2: My idea it was it's better that people do something
- 10:02Speaker 2: and actually it makes that attainable for that group of people,
- 10:05Speaker 2: then not at all. And so that's how I started
- 10:06Speaker 2: sport with Beck.
- 10:07Speaker 1: That's so interesting to me that at nineteen you really
- 10:10Speaker 1: felt this strong calling, because I think some people, I mean,
- 10:13Speaker 1: I'm thirty now, and I think beyond thirty, especially even
- 10:17Speaker 1: people still struggle with finding something that they feel so
- 10:19Speaker 1: passionate about. And this idea that what you do for
- 10:23Speaker 1: a living can be something you enjoy.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And that's exactly it. And so I think it took
- 10:27Speaker 2: me a while. So I still worked in hospitality until
- 10:29Speaker 2: I was like twenty six. And at this point you're
- 10:31Speaker 2: still in Australia.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Yeah, still in Australia.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And so it was twenty six and yeah, then it
- 10:36Speaker 2: was like when I was turning twenty six, I was like, Okay,
- 10:38Speaker 2: now I'm just going to start this because there's nothing around.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I'm going to make fitness cool and I was like,
- 10:43Speaker 2: I'm going to make it attainable. And it was really fun.
- 10:45Speaker 2: And that's why my whole brand is very sassy fitness.
- 10:48Speaker 2: It's like health and wellness with sas you know, and
- 10:51Speaker 2: it's very cheeky, it's very may everything's branded very much
- 10:54Speaker 2: made you. I mean, I say it like it is,
- 10:55Speaker 2: as you're going to find out over the next however long.
- 10:58Speaker 3: But it's been fun.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I love that you said cheeky because you're kind of
- 11:02Speaker 1: known as a booty builder. Abound me that probably right?
- 11:05Speaker 1: Did you? Always were? You always like a legs kind.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Of gal I love.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I think most girls like doing legs because it's like
- 11:13Speaker 2: that you get that rush, you know, and like it's
- 11:15Speaker 2: so I love strength training.
- 11:16Speaker 3: I always did back in the day. That's how I started.
- 11:18Speaker 3: I was a strength coach.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I got obsessed with the bands because I could not
- 11:22Speaker 2: activate my glutes. My quads would take over like crazy.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So I was lifting really heavy. I had super chunky quads.
- 11:27Speaker 3: My butt was barely activating all the time.
- 11:29Speaker 2: And so then that's and I was getting injured from
- 11:31Speaker 2: running because I was not activating my glutes. So I
- 11:35Speaker 2: started doing the bands before i'd run because I hurt
- 11:37Speaker 2: my knee like everyone that runs basically, and so I
- 11:41Speaker 2: hurt my knees started getting really into the bands that way,
- 11:44Speaker 2: and then I was like, then all my clients were
- 11:45Speaker 2: starting to use the bands, and then I realized, wait,
- 11:48Speaker 2: I'm like using these bands, like I'm like going through
- 11:51Speaker 2: my Amazon account is through the roof every single week
- 11:53Speaker 2: I'm order, I've got bands on order because they just
- 11:56Speaker 2: keep on snapping. Nothing's strong enough. Also, like I'm only
- 11:59Speaker 2: using the heavy resists and that's still not even strong enough.
- 12:02Speaker 2: So then that's how I.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Got into the band.
- 12:03Speaker 1: So obviously you sell bands on your website. What's your
- 12:06Speaker 1: website again, that's sweat with beeck dot com. Okay, so
- 12:09Speaker 1: you sell bands on your website. But these are the
- 12:11Speaker 1: same kinds of bands, maybe not as strong as your
- 12:13Speaker 1: bands that you could go buy on Amazon and different
- 12:16Speaker 1: types of resistance.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Yes, you definitely can.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:19Speaker 2: The reason why I made mine was because we're the
- 12:22Speaker 2: ones I was buying off Amazon. No matter how many
- 12:24Speaker 2: brands I would try, would last about two weeks if
- 12:26Speaker 2: you use.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Them every day.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah, mine, because the latext we use is if you
- 12:31Speaker 2: use them every day, they should last two to three
- 12:33Speaker 2: months instead, which wow, so much better and it's just
- 12:35Speaker 2: more savvy for me.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I was so sick of buying them.
- 12:38Speaker 1: For someone who's never used bands before. What are like
- 12:41Speaker 1: some exercises that someone would associate doing with them.
- 12:45Speaker 2: So they're the little mini bands. They're about like what
- 12:48Speaker 2: eight inches long, and they like loop around your ankles.
- 12:50Speaker 2: It'd be like putting them around your ankles and doing
- 12:52Speaker 2: like crab walks, so side steps all the way up,
- 12:54Speaker 2: all the way back, putting them around in knees while
- 12:56Speaker 2: you squat.
- 12:56Speaker 3: You can also use them with weights in the gym.
- 12:58Speaker 2: But my whole thing is to do like a lot
- 13:01Speaker 2: of like travel fitness, so you can work out wherever
- 13:03Speaker 2: you go.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Got it? Got it? Okay, So you're in Australia, you're
- 13:06Speaker 1: doing personal training, you're really into strength coaching.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, sorry, I'm jumping everywhere right now. That's okay, really
- 13:13Speaker 2: strength coaching. I came on a vacation to America and
- 13:17Speaker 2: with my girlfriends when I was twenty five, and I
- 13:22Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, I love it here. I
- 13:24Speaker 2: need to live here. This is the greatest place in
- 13:26Speaker 2: the world. And so I remember getting in the car
- 13:30Speaker 2: on the way to the airport going back. I've been
- 13:31Speaker 2: spent three months in all of America. I didn't go
- 13:33Speaker 2: to New York though, and so we did like San
- 13:36Speaker 2: France through like all of California, like Hamas, Miami, like
- 13:41Speaker 2: weluded and everything, and I member my friend driving with
- 13:44Speaker 2: the airport and I was in tears, and he's like,
- 13:45Speaker 2: what the hell is wrong with you? And I'm like,
- 13:47Speaker 2: I'm so sad to leave. I've never felt more at
- 13:49Speaker 2: home in my life. I need to live here. And
- 13:51Speaker 2: he's like, well, why don't you apply for the Green
- 13:53Speaker 2: Car Lottery. And I'm like, what the hell is that.
- 13:55Speaker 2: That sounds like it's fake, and he's like, no, no, no,
- 13:57Speaker 2: it's real. You just pay fifty dollars online you apply
- 13:59Speaker 2: for the g Card lottery and like they draw it
- 14:01Speaker 2: every year and I'm like that sounds ridiculous, but yep,
- 14:04Speaker 2: I'll do it. And so then I applied for the
- 14:05Speaker 2: Green Card Lottery. As soon as I got home. I
- 14:08Speaker 2: was so obsessed with the thought of winning. And this
- 14:11Speaker 2: is where I got really into manifesting things. I think,
- 14:14Speaker 2: to the point where every night, in the middle of
- 14:17Speaker 2: the night, I would wake up like dreaming that I'd
- 14:19Speaker 2: won the Green Card Lottery or like, oh my god,
- 14:21Speaker 2: check your email quick like. But this went on for
- 14:23Speaker 2: like eight months, and then they announced the winners. I
- 14:26Speaker 2: actually won, which was kind of crazy. And so then
- 14:28Speaker 2: that's how I moved to the States.
- 14:29Speaker 1: It's crazy to me that that exists. And then it's
- 14:32Speaker 1: so hard for people from other places to get to
- 14:34Speaker 1: the States.
- 14:35Speaker 2: It's actually, even as a normal AUSTRAI, it is so
- 14:38Speaker 2: hard to move to the States unless you're sponsored or
- 14:40Speaker 2: anything like that.
- 14:41Speaker 3: In for personal training, it's.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Almost impossible to move to the States. Right, So the
- 14:45Speaker 2: green card, really it was like a game changer for me.
- 14:48Speaker 3: It was great.
- 14:49Speaker 1: And so when you moved, did you come street to
- 14:51Speaker 1: New York? I did, so.
- 14:53Speaker 2: It was actually in a relationship at the time, and
- 14:56Speaker 2: the compromise was, well, if I'm changing countries for you
- 14:59Speaker 2: instead of moving to La like you want, Beck, let's
- 15:01Speaker 2: move to New York and we'll compromise that way. And
- 15:04Speaker 2: I did not want to move to New York at all.
- 15:06Speaker 2: I was so bitter about it. But I'm like, it's okay,
- 15:08Speaker 2: I'm in the country. It's all that matters. It's all
- 15:10Speaker 2: that matters. Really, Like I love LA like I love
- 15:13Speaker 2: that vibe usually, and then we moved here and I
- 15:17Speaker 2: absolutely loved it and he hated it.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So yeah, and you're still here, and you're still here. Okay,
- 15:26Speaker 1: So you came to New York and you loved it. Yeah, absolutely,
- 15:29Speaker 1: And you knew when you came here that you wanted
- 15:31Speaker 1: to do personal training, you wanted to keep that vibe going.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Yes, So that's this is where I like officially, So
- 15:37Speaker 2: before I left, I was probably.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Working five jobs.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I was doing like everything from like door bitching to
- 15:42Speaker 2: bartending to like literally I'm sorry, what.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Was the first one?
- 15:46Speaker 3: Door bitching?
- 15:47Speaker 1: What is that? What is that?
- 15:50Speaker 3: Maybe that's an Australian term hostess. It's a selector.
- 15:55Speaker 2: So I'm the person out the front of the club
- 15:56Speaker 2: that tells you who can come in and who cannot.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Was one of the hardest door girls in Melbourne, which
- 16:03Speaker 2: is very funny.
- 16:05Speaker 3: For like a couple of years, it's just hilarious.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, because I'm really tough, guys.
- 16:12Speaker 3: So I was working so many jobs.
- 16:14Speaker 2: So then when I got to New York, I'm like, okay,
- 16:16Speaker 2: obviously I don't really know anybody, so I'm going to
- 16:20Speaker 2: barton straight away because it's easy, like it's it's some
- 16:23Speaker 2: form of cash flow.
- 16:24Speaker 3: And then I got a job at Equinox in the
- 16:27Speaker 3: printing house.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Okay, and how long were you working at Equinox Fire.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Maybe like twelve months? Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, I was
- 16:36Speaker 3: really happy to leave that place.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I'm not good at working for other people, and I
- 16:43Speaker 2: think that's what really really.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Stuck a fire up. Shall we say, it really made
- 16:49Speaker 3: me realize I.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Having my own business in Australia moving here, I'm like,
- 16:53Speaker 2: I need to work for myself. I'm so I thrive
- 16:56Speaker 2: by myself. I'm so competitive with myself.
- 16:59Speaker 3: I love it.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I don't like if I'm told to do a task
- 17:02Speaker 2: and I can't see the reason why I just won't
- 17:04Speaker 2: do it.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I've really got problems like that.
- 17:07Speaker 2: And so for me working at Economics, maybe it was
- 17:10Speaker 2: really good to meet people and like actually have some
- 17:12Speaker 2: form of like running into.
- 17:14Speaker 3: People, because otherwise I wouldn't.
- 17:15Speaker 2: But yeah, that really made me realize, Okay, this is
- 17:18Speaker 2: it I've really got to do start sort.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I would imagine that, Yes, it was a good place
- 17:22Speaker 1: to meet people and also a really great place to
- 17:24Speaker 1: get a sense of what it's like to work in
- 17:26Speaker 1: fitness in a city like New York.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Yeah it was, and it's but it also down to
- 17:31Speaker 2: like but I would notice instead of what it's like
- 17:33Speaker 2: to work in New York Fitness because it's very similar,
- 17:36Speaker 2: but it was more so funny of like the hierarchy.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Of working in a gym.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Again, I'm like wow, and then like things like just
- 17:43Speaker 2: like the micromanagement and you're like, oh my god, like
- 17:46Speaker 2: and I like because if you had your own business
- 17:48Speaker 2: and you go into it's like an institution like that,
- 17:51Speaker 2: I guess then you realize you're like, wait, there is
- 17:53Speaker 2: just like it's just the time wasting is just insane,
- 17:56Speaker 2: Like it's just a different thing.
- 17:57Speaker 1: So leaving a gym like that and then going on
- 17:59Speaker 1: in your own has got to feel a little bit intimidating.
- 18:03Speaker 3: It was terrifying, it really was.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I had one of those moments where I'm like, Okay,
- 18:07Speaker 2: well I'm going to give it six months.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Okay, because I really was it was a lot. So
- 18:12Speaker 3: I was like, Okay, I'm going to give it six months.
- 18:13Speaker 2: This maybe fitness is not my thing, Maybe this is
- 18:16Speaker 2: my time to leave fitness. Maybe because I was just
- 18:18Speaker 2: I was not like hating on it, but I was
- 18:20Speaker 2: like really wanted to start sweat with back, but I'm like, okay,
- 18:22Speaker 2: I'm going to give it six months. If I mess
- 18:24Speaker 2: up or if i feel like I'm not getting aywhere,
- 18:25Speaker 2: then you know what, maybe like maybe management's more my thing.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe I'll like do that. And so
- 18:30Speaker 2: then I was like, Okay, I'm going to go like
- 18:32Speaker 2: balls to the wall for the next six months, and
- 18:34Speaker 2: I'm giving it my absolute everything, because I'm someone that
- 18:37Speaker 2: I can't have a what if with anything in my life.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I mean, I have to tick that box. I can't
- 18:41Speaker 2: like it just it kills me. So I'm like, Okay,
- 18:43Speaker 2: I'm getting it literally everything. If it doesn't work, I
- 18:45Speaker 2: can say I've absolutely tried my best, but I need
- 18:47Speaker 2: to give it that six months.
- 18:49Speaker 1: So then tell me a little bit about what those
- 18:50Speaker 1: six months looked like for you.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Those six months were a lot of me tearing my
- 18:55Speaker 2: hair out, a lot of me being like I got this,
- 18:58Speaker 2: but I don't got this.
- 19:00Speaker 3: There's a lot of guess work.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I've never had help with anything like that, so it's
- 19:03Speaker 2: all just doing it by myself and just hoping for
- 19:05Speaker 2: the best.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I'm like a hustler.
- 19:08Speaker 2: It was like basically I was brought up that way,
- 19:11Speaker 2: like that was how we were brought up. So I
- 19:15Speaker 2: was bartending while I was personal training, while I was
- 19:17Speaker 2: doing everything else, and I was just like, this is
- 19:19Speaker 2: going to work.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It just has to work, right, Wow, So early mornings
- 19:23Speaker 1: and leet mates, oh, everything. Yeah, and where were you
- 19:26Speaker 1: training clients at this point?
- 19:28Speaker 2: I was training clients in Tribeca, like at a private
- 19:31Speaker 2: fit to studio, and then I was also training out
- 19:33Speaker 2: of people's apartments, so I would got a lot of
- 19:35Speaker 2: my clients were through referrals because everyone was obviously I'm
- 19:39Speaker 2: good at what I do, come on.
- 19:41Speaker 3: But so I have a lot of really good referrals,
- 19:43Speaker 3: which is great.
- 19:44Speaker 2: So I was going to people's apartments around Tribeca West
- 19:46Speaker 2: Village and things like that.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And at the time, were you sticking with a lot
- 19:50Speaker 1: of this resistance band tape training that you had started with?
- 19:54Speaker 3: No, So it's funny.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I actually I was doing it, but I hadn't made
- 19:58Speaker 2: my beooty bands at this point. Okay, so it was
- 20:00Speaker 2: around this time I decided to create the booty bands.
- 20:04Speaker 2: At this point, I was doing a lot of like
- 20:06Speaker 2: old school strength training, a lot of hit and things
- 20:08Speaker 2: like that.
- 20:09Speaker 3: So, yeah, what.
- 20:10Speaker 1: An overwhelming idea to think I want to make some
- 20:12Speaker 1: bands that are my own And how do you even
- 20:14Speaker 1: think about who to reach out to you to do that, like,
- 20:17Speaker 1: did you work with someone to do the branding? I mean,
- 20:20Speaker 1: at this point we're sweat with back like a true
- 20:23Speaker 1: thing yet, So so.
- 20:24Speaker 3: With Beck was a true thing.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I've always had my website that's been up for like
- 20:27Speaker 2: eight nine years now, so okay, and it's always been
- 20:30Speaker 2: very fun and sassy. I've always had my Instagram because
- 20:33Speaker 2: that was like my little side project for me. And
- 20:35Speaker 2: everyone's like, there's no point putting effort into Instagram, Beck,
- 20:38Speaker 2: It's a waste of time, and I'm like, okay, cool.
- 20:41Speaker 3: I was like, I like it. So I've always had
- 20:43Speaker 3: that just sticking along.
- 20:46Speaker 2: The branding and everything that's completely me. I love copywriting.
- 20:52Speaker 3: It's like a real like I absolutely love it.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I love back in the day when I attempted to
- 20:57Speaker 2: go to college, I did payr for like a year,
- 20:59Speaker 2: and I loved that. I've always loved that realm, you know.
- 21:02Speaker 2: I love branding. I love all that, like creating an
- 21:05Speaker 2: experience like that's always been my jam. It's just so
- 21:08Speaker 2: much fun for me.
- 21:09Speaker 3: So this was a really good way to have that
- 21:11Speaker 3: creative outlet. Because I was always an art student.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I was always doing like random things like that, so
- 21:16Speaker 2: it was kind of nice to actually be able to
- 21:18Speaker 2: incorporate that into my fitness job in So.
- 21:22Speaker 3: That was good.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, so then who do you even reach out to?
- 21:25Speaker 1: You to say, hey, you want to help me make
- 21:26Speaker 1: some bands?
- 21:28Speaker 2: You literally reach out to every single person on Google
- 21:30Speaker 2: you can find for probably like I don't know, two years,
- 21:34Speaker 2: and you're like literally just like cold, like.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Every single person possible.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:38Speaker 3: So yeah, but it worked out, So that's good.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I mean I can only imagine, like how do you
- 21:42Speaker 1: even vet someone to know.
- 21:46Speaker 3: That's exactly it?
- 21:47Speaker 2: The amount of samples and then like the amount of
- 21:49Speaker 2: samples of like okay, we've finally got the thickness. Cool,
- 21:52Speaker 2: Now who can print on this?
- 21:53Speaker 1: Oh?
- 21:53Speaker 3: Wait, you can't print on this? Oh the letters are
- 21:55Speaker 3: going to fall off after.
- 21:56Speaker 2: Like two weeks of use, and so like the road
- 21:59Speaker 2: testing of trying to find a printer that can print
- 22:01Speaker 2: and it stays while it's because they're stretched so much
- 22:05Speaker 2: without the cracking and without all that stuff.
- 22:07Speaker 1: That was just like it's a lot, a lot.
- 22:08Speaker 2: But for me, it was like it was a project
- 22:10Speaker 2: and I'm like I don't care. I'm just going to
- 22:11Speaker 2: start off making a hundred I don't know any money,
- 22:14Speaker 2: but it's going to be worth it. And so I
- 22:15Speaker 2: made like such a small run of one hundred, but
- 22:17Speaker 2: I'm like okay, and then as soon as I've sell those,
- 22:19Speaker 2: I'll have enough money for the next lot, and then
- 22:21Speaker 2: I can buy more and then that's how that begain.
- 22:22Speaker 1: All right, So fast forward about four and a half
- 22:26Speaker 1: years or so. Your body starts to talk to you
- 22:28Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Yeah, so let's.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Talk about that.
- 22:31Speaker 3: So I the Evans were really successful.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Things were great. I started teaching classes. I'd never been
- 22:38Speaker 2: a group fitness person. I'd always been that typical trainer
- 22:42Speaker 2: where I'm like, I'm a personal trainer, ew group fitness
- 22:45Speaker 2: because that's basically how you brought up as a trainer,
- 22:47Speaker 2: which is really funny.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Or it's like a strength coach. So I started doing
- 22:51Speaker 3: group fitness. I loved it.
- 22:53Speaker 2: It was so good, and it's also a way to
- 22:54Speaker 2: like teach people how to use my band, and like,
- 22:57Speaker 2: obviously then people are going to buy more bands, so
- 22:59Speaker 2: that makes sense. So it was perfect for all the
- 23:01Speaker 2: branding side of things. So I was doing five classes
- 23:05Speaker 2: a week and then I was also teaching forty five
- 23:09Speaker 2: personal training sessions a lease, right, class was trying to
- 23:12Speaker 2: like do everything else and then like have a life.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I definitely didn't have a life, you know then or
- 23:17Speaker 2: occasionally like have a crazy blowout and they'd be like, great,
- 23:19Speaker 2: now I feel like shit. So it's like there like
- 23:21Speaker 2: that one extreme to the other all the time. So
- 23:23Speaker 2: I was definitely running myself down. But it was definitely
- 23:26Speaker 2: the fittest I've ever been. I was like, oh my god,
- 23:29Speaker 2: I feel superhuman. I was in a really good place.
- 23:31Speaker 2: I was so happy with how like, like how I
- 23:34Speaker 2: looked wasn't even an issue ever, because I'm like, oh,
- 23:36Speaker 2: I'm just I'm fit all the time.
- 23:38Speaker 3: This is amazing me. And I never, like never to
- 23:40Speaker 3: worry about it.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Like it was just a really good headspace because I
- 23:43Speaker 2: think being in fitness particularly, that's something that comes up
- 23:45Speaker 2: all the time of how you're looking and whether you're
- 23:46Speaker 2: booking shoots or whatever. And then I started getting injured
- 23:50Speaker 2: like a lot. So I was doing about like two hours.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Exercise a day. So the classes were great, that was fine.
- 23:57Speaker 2: It was more so that in my own personal training,
- 24:00Speaker 2: I was doing less strength and I was doing more hit.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Yeah, it just started to affect me.
- 24:04Speaker 2: So it started off with a broken foot, which was
- 24:07Speaker 2: happened I think November to what two years ago, twenty seventeen, seventeen, and.
- 24:13Speaker 3: That was yeah, that was just like, oh God, I
- 24:16Speaker 3: would jump in my class.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I have to do this, I have to do that.
- 24:18Speaker 2: So I do like a moon boot first eight weeks,
- 24:20Speaker 2: which killed me. And then on the day, but I
- 24:23Speaker 2: was so committed to the moon boot, which was not
- 24:25Speaker 2: a cute look at all.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Can I let you know?
- 24:27Speaker 2: It was terrible and it wasn't like an obvious moon boot.
- 24:31Speaker 2: It was like the marine boot that almost could be
- 24:33Speaker 2: a weird orthopedic shoe, so no one even knew that
- 24:35Speaker 2: you had one, so it was.
- 24:36Speaker 1: It was awful.
- 24:37Speaker 2: But I was so committed to the marine boot because
- 24:39Speaker 2: I'm like, I can't make this worse.
- 24:40Speaker 3: I need to get better.
- 24:42Speaker 2: And this is the first time I witnessed like injury
- 24:45Speaker 2: to that level where I'm.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Like, oh wait, this is now affecting my work. I
- 24:48Speaker 3: can't do things.
- 24:49Speaker 2: So then on the day I got my marine boot off,
- 24:52Speaker 2: I bulged a disc in my back because the marine
- 24:55Speaker 2: boot had made my hips uneven so badly. So as
- 24:58Speaker 2: soon as I tried to do something I like it
- 25:01Speaker 2: was just like walking.
- 25:01Speaker 3: I like bulged a disc in my.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Back and then that started a bit of a spiral
- 25:06Speaker 2: of injuries. And then I'm also really lucky sometimes, shall
- 25:09Speaker 2: we say. And so I was cooking. It was just
- 25:12Speaker 2: two weeks after the back. It's so stupid. I was
- 25:15Speaker 2: cooking and I had a knife and coconut because I'm
- 25:19Speaker 2: an idiot, and the knife slipped and went through my finger.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Geez.
- 25:22Speaker 2: So I like had that moment where like the knife
- 25:24Speaker 2: is through one end of the thing. I know, check
- 25:27Speaker 2: out that scar.
- 25:28Speaker 1: It's like that's a real star.
- 25:30Speaker 3: It's very real. And so I was sitting there and
- 25:32Speaker 3: I like had to pull the knife out, and I'm like,
- 25:34Speaker 3: oh my god, this is awful. But then I'm also
- 25:36Speaker 3: I remember grabbing my phone.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Like like looking at my dog and he's like what
- 25:40Speaker 2: are you doing and I'm like I don't know. And
- 25:42Speaker 2: then I remember grabbing my phone and I'm being like
- 25:44Speaker 2: I have no one to call.
- 25:46Speaker 3: I am so alone.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I was like, So it was that real moment.
- 25:51Speaker 2: You're just like, holy shit, what the hell is Like
- 25:53Speaker 2: my body's falling apart.
- 25:54Speaker 3: I don't need anybody to call and be like take
- 25:55Speaker 3: me to emergency. I have no idea what to do.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I'm Astralian and I've never been injured before in America.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I don't have health insurance becase I'm an idiot, so
- 26:01Speaker 2: I'm just like, ah, sorry, that was just like a time.
- 26:05Speaker 3: So it's just one thing after another. So there I was.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I can't lift in a thing, I can't walk, I
- 26:11Speaker 2: can't jump, I can't run, so I can't even do
- 26:13Speaker 2: like Kadia.
- 26:14Speaker 3: I like literally can'tjoinn a thing.
- 26:15Speaker 2: So then that's when I really got into save It eight,
- 26:19Speaker 2: which is a game changing it for me.
- 26:25Speaker 1: A quick break to give my sponsor, Athletic Greens a
- 26:28Speaker 1: little bit of love. Been traveling all over the place,
- 26:31Speaker 1: like I said earlier, and let me tell you, Athletic
- 26:34Speaker 1: Greens is a lifesaver. I feel like obviously, as you know,
- 26:39Speaker 1: when you're all over the place, it's hard to keep

- 26:45Speaker 1: bringing the travel packs and they are the perfect size
- 26:48Speaker 1: of Athletic Greens along with me on the road helps

- 27:26Speaker 1: Let's get back to it. First of all, holy crap,
- 27:38Speaker 1: I have like chills down my spine thinking about like
- 27:41Speaker 1: this idea of pulling a knife out of my own finger. Awful. Also,
- 27:47Speaker 1: I mean, there's so many different things to come in
- 27:49Speaker 1: on that entire story. First and foremost, the idea of
- 27:51Speaker 1: feeling alone living in New York. I think a lot
- 27:54Speaker 1: of people actually experience that constantly. And obviously you came
- 27:58Speaker 1: here from very far away, but it is like the
- 28:00Speaker 1: biggest but also most lonely city. Sometimes when you are
- 28:04Speaker 1: looking for help and you don't know who to call,
- 28:06Speaker 1: and it goes back to this idea of like wanting
- 28:08Speaker 1: to be able to take care of yourself. I also
- 28:11Speaker 1: think that sometimes you don't realize how scary it is
- 28:13Speaker 1: to live alone until something goes wrong. Yeah, you guys,
- 28:16Speaker 1: it's like the freedom, the freedom of living around, the
- 28:18Speaker 1: freedom of living around. I didn't talk today. I'm so overwhelmed.
- 28:21Speaker 2: But it's like, I don't need anybody. I'm fine, I'm
- 28:24Speaker 2: a bus babe, I'm good. And it's like, no, no,
- 28:25Speaker 2: sometimes you know what we Disneyed.
- 28:27Speaker 1: People, Yeah, you really need someone to help you go
- 28:31Speaker 1: to the hospital. So yeah, I can totally relate to
- 28:34Speaker 1: this idea of not wanting anybody's help ever, even when
- 28:38Speaker 1: you're until you really realize that you need it. Also,
- 28:42Speaker 1: this idea that your body is your money maker is
- 28:44Speaker 1: so scary, and you telling me that you don't have
- 28:47Speaker 1: health insurance makes me even more scared. That was just
- 28:51Speaker 1: do you have now? Okay? I think we actually talked
- 28:53Speaker 1: about this when you're shopping. Can I tell you when
- 28:57Speaker 1: I months ago was looking for my own health insurance.
- 29:00Speaker 1: I was posting about it on Instagram. And so many
- 29:03Speaker 1: people that are in the fitness space and entrepreneurs who
- 29:06Speaker 1: need to be on something like Obamacare find their own
- 29:09Speaker 1: health insurance as that part like without a marketplace of
- 29:12Speaker 1: being in a place of employment, it's so overwhelming, and
- 29:15Speaker 1: it's also so expensive, which is the reason why I'm
- 29:17Speaker 1: sure maybe at the time you didn't even have health
- 29:19Speaker 1: insurance begin.
- 29:20Speaker 2: With no, because it's just it is so expensive. Yeahasy,
- 29:24Speaker 2: and it's like and also like, I think I don't
- 29:26Speaker 2: understand that. I still barely understand the systems here of
- 29:30Speaker 2: like your cutoff dates and everything. Yeah, so two years
- 29:32Speaker 2: in a row, I've missed the cutoff date and then
- 29:34Speaker 2: they're like, oh, well, too bad now, and I'm like, wait,
- 29:36Speaker 2: that was it. I didn't realize because I was like
- 29:37Speaker 2: either traveling with work or so over committed and not
- 29:40Speaker 2: thinking that that was that important.
- 29:42Speaker 3: And so yeah, so you learning lessons, I guess.
- 29:44Speaker 1: And then you have to pay for everything out of
- 29:45Speaker 1: pocket and overwhelming I know. So Okay, so you are
- 29:50Speaker 1: coming back from injury, multiple injuries. So you're coming back
- 29:53Speaker 1: from multiple injuries. You're now slightly in debt because you
- 29:57Speaker 1: had to pay out of pocket for a lot of
- 29:58Speaker 1: things that you really needed.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so that was interesting, But that was fine because
- 30:02Speaker 2: I'm like, do you know what, it doesn't matter.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I've got this. I've got this. I've always been like
- 30:05Speaker 3: really good with my money. A big saver and then.
- 30:09Speaker 2: So I think we're in like January February, and now
- 30:11Speaker 2: I meet Jill, my business partner now business partner.
- 30:15Speaker 3: We were walking out dogs together. She owns Magic Mixed
- 30:18Speaker 3: US three.
- 30:19Speaker 2: And I was telling you how I've always made this
- 30:21Speaker 2: CBD chocolate and I really want to launch a CBD
- 30:23Speaker 2: chocolate and I think it's going to be a game changer.
- 30:25Speaker 1: And you were making you were making CBD chocolate at
- 30:28Speaker 1: home always. Okay, can we talk to the Hurdle listener
- 30:32Speaker 1: a little bit about CBD?
- 30:34Speaker 2: Okay, So CBD is it's from cannabis, so it's a
- 30:37Speaker 2: non psychoactive part of cannabis.
- 30:39Speaker 3: So you've got cannabis. It's THHC and CBD.
- 30:41Speaker 2: So this is the oil it's been extracted, so it's
- 30:44Speaker 2: not going to get your heighth it's just going to
- 30:45Speaker 2: chill you out. So it's really good for anti anxiety inflammation,
- 30:48Speaker 2: which is what I was using it for pain relief.
- 30:51Speaker 2: And kind of what I realized when I was taking
- 30:53Speaker 2: it every day, which was crazy to me because I
- 30:56Speaker 2: was taking it for pain, that all of a sudden
- 30:58Speaker 2: I had this air of mental clarity and I was
- 31:00Speaker 2: not expecting that at all. So I was taking like
- 31:04Speaker 2: like for me, and everyone's dosage is very different as well,
- 31:06Speaker 2: because we've all got different tolerances. So for me, i
- 31:08Speaker 2: was having like thirty five milligrams in the morning, thirty
- 31:10Speaker 2: five at night. And what was funny is I've like always.
- 31:14Speaker 3: I'm not like, I'm like, I'm chill. I'm Australian. I
- 31:17Speaker 3: don't get anxiety. What are you talking about.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I'm so chill. I've just got a lot on. I'm
- 31:20Speaker 2: just really busy. I've just got a lot on. I've
- 31:22Speaker 2: just got like twenty things to do today. And then
- 31:23Speaker 2: all of a sudden, my mind's like panic talking because
- 31:25Speaker 2: it's not necessarily anxiety. I'm not going to have a
- 31:28Speaker 2: panic attack. I'm just do list anxiety as far as
- 31:31Speaker 2: like I can't mess up.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I've just got to get everything done.
- 31:34Speaker 2: So that is what used to get me really like
- 31:37Speaker 2: kind of hyped up in this level. I'm like, I
- 31:38Speaker 2: just need help focusing. Maybe I've got ADHD, I don't know.
- 31:41Speaker 2: And so having CBD every day was crazy because after
- 31:45Speaker 2: a week of it, I'm like, wait, I'm thinking so
- 31:47Speaker 2: much clearer. I've all of a sudden can process my
- 31:50Speaker 2: thoughts so much better. And I wasn't expecting that at all,
- 31:53Speaker 2: and so now I'm like, wait, everyone needs to have this,
- 31:56Speaker 2: like everyone in their lives.
- 31:57Speaker 3: So that's why I'm pushing CBD.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Basically, when you first started taking CBD, how did you
- 32:04Speaker 1: even know what it was? Where to find out? How
- 32:06Speaker 1: do people figure out what's in their CVD? Because it's
- 32:10Speaker 1: not very regulated, it's not very regulated.
- 32:13Speaker 3: It's very daunting.
- 32:14Speaker 1: For me.
- 32:15Speaker 2: I started looking into it because I was either it's
- 32:18Speaker 2: either like I had to get off percoset.
- 32:20Speaker 3: I could not take a pocost every day.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Right, Like that is not like the way of life.
- 32:24Speaker 2: I'm like this, I'm like, yeah, I feel great, but
- 32:26Speaker 2: I don't know about this. This is not good for me.
- 32:28Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't want to have that many meds
- 32:30Speaker 2: all the time. So that's why I started getting into
- 32:32Speaker 2: the cannabis field. And it's been crazy, it's been good.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Okay, So when you were making it, and I have
- 32:36Speaker 1: so many questions about CBD, So when you were making
- 32:38Speaker 1: it on your own at home, how did you even
- 32:41Speaker 1: know how much to use? Are you making larger batches?
- 32:45Speaker 3: It's trial and error. So for me, I've always made
- 32:47Speaker 3: my chocolate.
- 32:47Speaker 2: I've always made my protein bowls and things like that,
- 32:50Speaker 2: but it was just trying you start off small.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 32:53Speaker 2: So with CBDA, every single person has a different tolerance,
- 32:57Speaker 2: you know. So for some people, five milligrams could completely
- 33:00Speaker 2: be like, oh my god, I had the best sleep
- 33:02Speaker 2: of my life and I slept for twelve hours. Right,
- 33:04Speaker 2: that might be your tolerance. Afaron digest things differently, it's
- 33:08Speaker 2: so different. So for people that are new to the
- 33:10Speaker 2: CBD realm, what I would say is start very small.
- 33:13Speaker 3: You can always have more, do you know what I mean?
- 33:15Speaker 2: So it's like kind of like I would start on
- 33:17Speaker 2: a five milligram dose. That's why our chocolates are five
- 33:20Speaker 2: milligrams because it's kind of a gateway CBD item for
- 33:23Speaker 2: people that are new to the space.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Okay, so let's talk a little bit about your chocolates.
- 33:27Speaker 1: You're making them in your kitchen, and when do you
- 33:29Speaker 1: realize that what you're making to help treat your own
- 33:31Speaker 1: inflammation and your own pain could be something that could
- 33:34Speaker 1: be beneficial to other people.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I had this real life bulb moment of the CBD
- 33:37Speaker 2: factor when I was just realized how much it was
- 33:39Speaker 2: helping me. And then when I met Jill, when we
- 33:43Speaker 2: were walking out dogs, We're talking about it, and I'm like,
- 33:46Speaker 2: I just I would love to make these peop Would
- 33:47Speaker 2: you want to do it together? We can use your facility. Let'
- 33:49Speaker 2: us do it as a little colab and see what happens.
- 33:52Speaker 2: And so that's how that started.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I think it's is it interesting for you because it
- 33:57Speaker 1: can be maybe unnecessarily controversial one.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Hundred percent, and I think it's kind of crazy.
- 34:03Speaker 2: But the fact that like, I give my mum CBD
- 34:07Speaker 2: and my grandmother CBD and they're like, and I've come
- 34:10Speaker 2: from a pretty like straight laced family when it comes
- 34:12Speaker 2: to things like that, and they're quite open to it.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I think it's sad that it's quite controversial. It really
- 34:18Speaker 2: is because it is such a game changer. My mum
- 34:21Speaker 2: has really terrible restless legs, like to the point where
- 34:24Speaker 2: they drive her crazy, and so they put her on
- 34:26Speaker 2: Parkinson's medication for restless legs and.
- 34:29Speaker 3: It's still not working.
- 34:30Speaker 2: But once you go on this medication, you can't really
- 34:33Speaker 2: go off it because it's like it messes with you
- 34:35Speaker 2: so badly. So she's been on this for like five
- 34:37Speaker 2: years and then so last year I gave her a
- 34:40Speaker 2: CBD and I'm like, no, let's get you on CBD,
- 34:42Speaker 2: but like crazy high doses. You can't get CBD in Australia.
- 34:45Speaker 2: You can barely get it. It's crazy and it's the
- 34:48Speaker 2: first time that now all of a sudden, her restless
- 34:50Speaker 2: legs are better and like that in itself, it's like
- 34:53Speaker 2: that's crazy people that have seizures or like what's it called,
- 34:56Speaker 2: like prone to epilepsy and things like that, Like that's
- 35:00Speaker 2: that completely.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Stops that, do you know what I mean?
- 35:02Speaker 2: So there's so many good benefits that medication can't do
- 35:04Speaker 2: epilepsy medication here you lose half your hair, Like that's
- 35:08Speaker 2: not that's not an answer, like so instead like it's
- 35:12Speaker 2: it's it should not be looked upon the way it is.
- 35:15Speaker 3: I sent people. I don't think.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Okay, so you're making cbed chocolate with your girlfriend, Yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 1: as a little experiment. And what's this company called the Time?
- 35:24Speaker 1: It does a company have an name, just a side
- 35:26Speaker 1: shot name.
- 35:26Speaker 2: It's like it's a colab So it sweat with Becktime's
- 35:29Speaker 2: Magic Mix, which is the biggest mouthful ever. So but
- 35:34Speaker 2: it was really fun to once again get creative with
- 35:36Speaker 2: the branding and have fun with that. Like the packaging
- 35:38Speaker 2: and everything like that. Our packaging is beautiful and I'm
- 35:41Speaker 2: so proud of it. But it's been really fun that
- 35:44Speaker 2: the creative side was so fun. And so I think
- 35:46Speaker 2: when I'm doing all this, I'm realizing, wait, because obviously
- 35:49Speaker 2: I started doing this and I'm like, this has to work,
- 35:51Speaker 2: because I realized I needed another hustle that wasn't reliant
- 35:55Speaker 2: on my body. Yeah, so I couldn't even post a
- 35:58Speaker 2: booty band video on my Instagram anymore because I could
- 36:01Speaker 2: not do them because I was I literally couldn't do anything, okay,
- 36:05Speaker 2: and so yeah, so that's why we started talking about that.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Then I think a month later, my back got worse
- 36:12Speaker 2: and I hern he added two discs and then one
- 36:14Speaker 2: of them was a sequestered fragment, so it broke off
- 36:16Speaker 2: into like five pieces into my spinal cord, meaning like
- 36:20Speaker 2: my nerve pain was like through the roof. So I
- 36:22Speaker 2: wanted to basically like saw my leg off, like and
- 36:25Speaker 2: my roommate over like one night, it's like coming out,
- 36:27Speaker 2: it's like three am, and she's.
- 36:28Speaker 3: Like, what are you doing?
- 36:29Speaker 2: And I'm like lying on my back on the like
- 36:31Speaker 2: with my feet up on the couch, being like trying
- 36:33Speaker 2: to find any position possible that I can fall asleep
- 36:35Speaker 2: in because I'm I'm literally going crazy. I think got
- 36:38Speaker 2: to like three weeks of like twenty minutes sleep at night,
- 36:41Speaker 2: Like I was a mess.
- 36:42Speaker 3: It was in so much pain.
- 36:44Speaker 2: And after seeing like I was just basically ubering to
- 36:48Speaker 2: chiropractice and doctors, amazing.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Chiropractor actually Matthew Devoux, anybody he needs one, He's the best.
- 36:55Speaker 2: And then after much back and forth, the only answer
- 36:58Speaker 2: was going to be surgery.
- 37:00Speaker 1: And again, being someone that was so dependent on your
- 37:04Speaker 1: body beyond you know, the everyday task also for your livelihood,
- 37:08Speaker 1: that must have been a really big mental struggle.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it definitely was.
- 37:13Speaker 2: But what was funny about it, which maybe because I
- 37:16Speaker 2: discovered cebitting around the same time. Like like everyone like
- 37:20Speaker 2: I'm generally emotional, Like I'm not completely heartless.
- 37:23Speaker 3: It's okay, but I'm.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Saying through this like back in the past, like a
- 37:26Speaker 2: year earlier, if you told me that I couldn't work
- 37:29Speaker 2: out for twenty four hours, I'd kind of get really
- 37:31Speaker 2: hantsy and almost like have a bit of a panic
- 37:33Speaker 2: attack because I love working out, like I fucking love it.
- 37:37Speaker 2: You I need that release for me it's a stress reliever,
- 37:39Speaker 2: it's everything. So to actually be told that you can't
- 37:42Speaker 2: work out now for three months and I didn't actually
- 37:46Speaker 2: get upset. I got more upset on a vacation for
- 37:49Speaker 2: not working out for twenty forty eight hours than I
- 37:52Speaker 2: did in the entire time through my spinal surgery, which
- 37:54Speaker 2: for me blows my mind because I'm a full on psycho.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Every ex boyfriend I ever had a life, yeah, you've
- 38:00Speaker 2: got a problem with working out. I'm just so addicted
- 38:02Speaker 2: to that feeling. So to go from that to not
- 38:05Speaker 2: being able to work out was crazy. But actually how
- 38:09Speaker 2: I coped with it mentally was also kind of crazy.
- 38:11Speaker 2: It was a real self awakening, like, oh wait, I'm
- 38:15Speaker 2: a lot stronger than I think I am. But also
- 38:17Speaker 2: I think when, as we would say, when shit really
- 38:20Speaker 2: hits the fan and you have no choice, you kind
- 38:22Speaker 2: of body goes into that mode of like damage control
- 38:25Speaker 2: and you're like, this is what I can do.
- 38:27Speaker 3: That's fine. I'm just going to make the best of it,
- 38:29Speaker 3: you know what I mean?
- 38:30Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I totally hear you. I totally also share
- 38:33Speaker 1: that mentality that when I can't work out, I kind
- 38:36Speaker 1: of go into panic mode. I think it's really impressive
- 38:40Speaker 1: that you did what you could with what you had,
- 38:44Speaker 1: instead of letting that kind of anxiety trigger some bad
- 38:49Speaker 1: habits or just i mean, put you emotionally in a
- 38:52Speaker 1: bad place. I really genuinely want to say that I
- 38:56Speaker 1: would have handled it the same way, but I can't
- 38:59Speaker 1: for sure you go through something like that.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Honestly, if you'd asked me, I would never say I
- 39:03Speaker 2: would have handled it like that at all. Yeah, but
- 39:05Speaker 2: even down to like the weight gain side of things,
- 39:07Speaker 2: let's get really real, Okay, I can't work.
- 39:10Speaker 3: Out my whole body is my whole job? Is my body?
- 39:13Speaker 3: You mean? And what you look like and this and that,
- 39:14Speaker 3: and yes, we're all about being body positive.
- 39:16Speaker 2: At the same time, I'm paid a lot of money
- 39:18Speaker 2: if I look a certain way, do you know what
- 39:20Speaker 2: I mean? So then all of a sudden, I've gained
- 39:21Speaker 2: twenty pounds. There's nothing I can do about it. But
- 39:24Speaker 2: that in itself was weird. I was laughing with my
- 39:26Speaker 2: girlfriend saying it was almost like I was like being pregnant.
- 39:29Speaker 3: You have no control.
- 39:30Speaker 2: So as soon as you have no control, it's like, well,
- 39:32Speaker 2: I can't work out, I can't do anything about it. Yes,
- 39:35Speaker 2: I've gained weight, but it's fully not my fault and
- 39:37Speaker 2: it's like, there's nothing I can do about it. It
- 39:40Speaker 2: puts a really different spin on it in your head
- 39:43Speaker 2: and you're okay with it. And so now coming out
- 39:45Speaker 2: of all this, like my friends will say, I'm in
- 39:47Speaker 2: the best head space they've ever known me as like that,
- 39:50Speaker 2: I will say, and I laugh about it that like
- 39:51Speaker 2: spinal surgery is the best thing that ever happened to me.
- 39:54Speaker 3: It really was, because I'm so much more chill.
- 39:57Speaker 2: I'm like like, yeah, I'm still overweight, Like I'm still
- 40:00Speaker 2: like fifteen pounds heavy.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I don't know what I was. I don't care. It's fine.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm happy with who I am like, and it
- 40:07Speaker 2: just makes such a difference to how you're mentally hold
- 40:09Speaker 2: out to look kind everything, And it's like, do you know,
- 40:11Speaker 2: at the end of the day, it doesn't actually matter, right,
- 40:13Speaker 2: you know what I mean? I know, I'm like working
- 40:15Speaker 2: my ass off and I'm trying my absolute best. I'm
- 40:17Speaker 2: like I've got fifty side hustles because that's who I am.
- 40:20Speaker 3: I will always be that person. And it's been great. Yeah.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Yeah, And you mentioned before the power of affirmation. So
- 40:28Speaker 1: are there other are there any other types of mental
- 40:30Speaker 1: exercises or anything that you do on a regular basis
- 40:33Speaker 1: to kind of keep that inner voice in check.
- 40:36Speaker 2: I think affirmations are so key. I think it's really
- 40:39Speaker 2: even Like I remember, I'd wake up in the morning.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Be like I just don't want to go to work.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I'd like, like, you know, this is the mental thing
- 40:45Speaker 3: of like.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Oh, it's just gonna suck typical.
- 40:48Speaker 2: I remember one day being like, today is gonna be
- 40:52Speaker 2: fucking amazing, and I was like, I was like so
- 40:55Speaker 2: deadpan faced, but I'm like, no, say it, just fucking say.
- 40:58Speaker 2: And so it is that thing of like that con
- 41:00Speaker 2: know it sounds crazy, It's that constant repetition to yourself.
- 41:03Speaker 2: So now it's like and I have a joke with
- 41:05Speaker 2: like my roommate and everything that it's like, Today's going
- 41:07Speaker 2: to be amazing, no matter what, even no matter how
- 41:10Speaker 2: salty and shitty I am on the inside or hungover
- 41:13Speaker 2: or whatever the hell it may be, or I know
- 41:14Speaker 2: today's gonna be a nightmare, and I'm basically not going
- 41:17Speaker 2: to sit down for eighteen hours straight. It's to wake
- 41:20Speaker 2: up and just be like, today is going to be amazing.
- 41:22Speaker 2: Because if you even just tell yourself that from the
- 41:24Speaker 2: get go. It makes such a difference because you can't,
- 41:27Speaker 2: no matter what type of shitty mood you're in, you
- 41:29Speaker 2: can't say today's going to be amazing in about and
- 41:32Speaker 2: like it not crack you up because it's funny because
- 41:34Speaker 2: you don't feel that at all.
- 41:35Speaker 3: But it's fine. I mean, it's kind of getting yourself
- 41:37Speaker 3: into that headspace before you even start.
- 41:41Speaker 2: I'm also a like chronic manifesto, like I really am.
- 41:45Speaker 2: I almost feel like it's a superpower at the moment,
- 41:47Speaker 2: So I will channel it to you, guys, don't worry
- 41:49Speaker 2: about I could use it. I got you, I got you.
- 41:51Speaker 2: But I'm all about like creative visualization, so like really
- 41:55Speaker 2: talk about things in my head like they are happening
- 41:57Speaker 2: and it's past tense and it's already happened, and just
- 42:00Speaker 2: like focusing on it like it's happening and it's going
- 42:02Speaker 2: to be amazing.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Why wouldn't it if there's no other option?
- 42:04Speaker 1: Can you give me an example, I feel like there's
- 42:07Speaker 1: a spoiler alert ahead or something.
- 42:09Speaker 2: No oh, like things like it happened, but like things
- 42:12Speaker 2: like the chocolate or like the visa for example, Like
- 42:15Speaker 2: I was crazy with that and my whole family, and
- 42:17Speaker 2: everyone thought I was fully nuts, and I'm like, even
- 42:20Speaker 2: when I want it, they're like it's fake. I'm like, no, no,
- 42:22Speaker 2: it's real. But even down to like working with certain brands,
- 42:25Speaker 2: you know, and I'm like.
- 42:26Speaker 3: This is a goal. This is such a goal. This
- 42:28Speaker 3: is such a goal.
- 42:28Speaker 2: And like like when I when I first did my
- 42:31Speaker 2: personal training set, I'm like, oh my god, if I
- 42:33Speaker 2: could one day work it somewhere like such and such,
- 42:35Speaker 2: that would be the dream.
- 42:36Speaker 3: And I got the job. Then I was like, say,
- 42:38Speaker 3: when I moved here, I'm like, oh, I just want
- 42:39Speaker 3: to like Equinox. I've got to work at Equinox. I've
- 42:41Speaker 3: got a job at printing house.
- 42:43Speaker 2: Things like really setting goals for myself on my inside.
- 42:48Speaker 3: I don't tell anybody these things.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Now, I like saying it out loud because I'm like,
- 42:51Speaker 2: it's kind of funny to like, because then when it
- 42:53Speaker 2: does happen, I'll be like, hey, remember when I said that,
- 42:56Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, I got it.
- 42:57Speaker 1: And also saying it out loud helps you stay all sometimes.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Definitely, And that's why I think I've also learned to
- 43:03Speaker 2: not keep anything, as you know, very much an oversharer
- 43:08Speaker 2: I can't keep anything to myself about myself, do you know.
- 43:10Speaker 3: What I mean?
- 43:11Speaker 2: And that's fine, and I just I think it's healthy,
- 43:14Speaker 2: Like I don't think some people are way too secretive
- 43:17Speaker 2: with like projects they're working on or what they're doing.
- 43:19Speaker 2: And I think, particularly being an entrepreneur as you know
- 43:22Speaker 2: as well, I think the best way to succeed in
- 43:26Speaker 2: this field is to share. And the more you share,
- 43:29Speaker 2: Like I could be talking about something I'm working on
- 43:31Speaker 2: and you might be like, wait, I've got a friend
- 43:33Speaker 2: of a friend that can help you, and you don't
- 43:34Speaker 2: realize how many doors that opens so many people, Like
- 43:38Speaker 2: I'm working on something, but I don't want to tell
- 43:39Speaker 2: you yet, just in case you copy. And it's what
- 43:41Speaker 2: really like a week child, Like there's enough space for everyone.
- 43:44Speaker 2: There really is, So it's kind of to work collaboratively
- 43:47Speaker 2: and build people up rather than like we're not against
- 43:50Speaker 2: each other.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Yeah, totally. When I sat down with Christy, God, so
- 43:52Speaker 1: this is so long ago now, but Kirsty was telling
- 43:55Speaker 1: me along the same lines of just like there's no
- 43:58Speaker 1: better feeling than being somebody else as cheerleader and showing
- 44:01Speaker 1: up for the people that you care about. And if
- 44:03Speaker 1: you feel if you feel some kind of way about
- 44:06Speaker 1: somebody else's success, then usually that actually just says something
- 44:09Speaker 1: about you. And maybe you're insecure about what you're doing
- 44:12Speaker 1: or that you're not working hard enough, and you just
- 44:14Speaker 1: have to show up and be happy.
- 44:16Speaker 3: And that's the thing, and I think it's it's things
- 44:17Speaker 3: should always be collaborative, so it should never be a
- 44:20Speaker 3: competition at all.
- 44:21Speaker 2: And I just it kills me because I speak on
- 44:24Speaker 2: so many panels like doing, like seeing so many different
- 44:27Speaker 2: things and talking about being an entrepreneur all the time,
- 44:29Speaker 2: and the amount of people that still can't get that headspace.
- 44:32Speaker 1: It's just it's so sad, it is it is. Okay,
- 44:35Speaker 1: So now where does the chocolate company sit? Because you
- 44:40Speaker 1: were focusing on that a little bit while you were
- 44:41Speaker 1: coming back from this injury. What was okay wait pause,
- 44:44Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm so excited, storyteller.
- 44:47Speaker 3: I've got so many things.
- 44:48Speaker 1: No, it's cool, it's cool. Okay. So at this point,
- 44:51Speaker 1: what happens to your bod after this surgery? Like what's
- 44:54Speaker 1: the recovery time?
- 44:55Speaker 3: Like, yes, I have surgery.
- 44:57Speaker 2: It was a lot, so I couldn't do anything at
- 44:59Speaker 2: all for about two months or so, and then I
- 45:01Speaker 2: was allowed to use the standmaster, which was like finally
- 45:05Speaker 2: some things like it's.
- 45:06Speaker 3: A big deal. Yeah, and then yeah, I recovered very well.
- 45:10Speaker 3: I really did.
- 45:11Speaker 2: But essentially I don't have a disc L four L five,
- 45:14Speaker 2: so I didn't get a spinal fusion. I just got
- 45:15Speaker 2: the particles like taken out. So instead that means that
- 45:19Speaker 2: I can't do anything. So I can, but I can't
- 45:23Speaker 2: like I can't really do hit training. Again, I can't
- 45:25Speaker 2: really run because when I run, I'll feel a bit
- 45:27Speaker 2: of a tweak in my back. So I still have
- 45:29Speaker 2: two herniated discs. Now I've just trained. I now train differently.
- 45:34Speaker 2: I trained smarter. I'm also thirty two. There's no reason
- 45:38Speaker 2: for me to do two hours of exercise a day,
- 45:40Speaker 2: like there really isn't. My body is not equipped for that.
- 45:43Speaker 2: But I am not necessarily born an athlete, do you
- 45:45Speaker 2: know what I mean? Yeah, so that does not come
- 45:48Speaker 2: natural to me. So I think for my body particularly,
- 45:50Speaker 2: I can't do that. And that's okay, do you mean,
- 45:54Speaker 2: like it's not who cares?
- 45:55Speaker 3: It's fine?
- 45:56Speaker 1: What happened to those forty five clients? You had a week?
- 46:00Speaker 2: We chat occasionally, so I've given them. I've like kind
- 46:05Speaker 2: of dispassed them to trainers that I recommended. I've kept
- 46:09Speaker 2: about like it's maybe like eight sessions a week. I
- 46:12Speaker 2: still do those, and then I'll do like guest sessions
- 46:15Speaker 2: with certain people and things like that.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Right, but it was hard, and you're still teaching group classes.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm back teaching group fitness finally, which is great.
- 46:24Speaker 2: I've cut that down a lot as well, so I'm
- 46:26Speaker 2: only doing twice a week now instead of five times
- 46:28Speaker 2: a week, and then I'll do a lot of events.
- 46:30Speaker 1: And then how do you feel?
- 46:32Speaker 3: I feel pretty great, to be honest, I just know
- 46:34Speaker 3: I need to be careful. Do you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 46:36Speaker 3: Like it's just things happen, do you know what I mean?
- 46:38Speaker 2: Like, and I think I've just got I'm more able
- 46:40Speaker 2: to read my body than I was before. But like,
- 46:43Speaker 2: for example, right now, I have a broken rib because
- 46:46Speaker 2: I was coughing, Like are you kidding me?
- 46:48Speaker 3: I'm like, what the hell?
- 46:49Speaker 2: But it's just like but it's kind of like okay.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Usually I'd be like, oh, it's fine, I'll just like
- 46:54Speaker 2: work out past it, but now I might no, just
- 46:56Speaker 2: just listen, I just don't, you know what I mean?
- 46:58Speaker 2: So I'm just as you are broken red know.
- 47:01Speaker 3: I don't even know.
- 47:02Speaker 1: That's so sad.
- 47:03Speaker 3: No, it's it's kind of funny. It's almost comical at
- 47:05Speaker 3: this point. That's great.
- 47:07Speaker 1: I'm just slowly falling apart. Oh my god, you gotta
- 47:09Speaker 1: be careful back no good. And then where is the
- 47:13Speaker 1: chocolate sit now? Because you've done so much with that,
- 47:15Speaker 1: I've seen it everywhere.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Yeah, so the chocolates.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Now we've launched our business officially, it's go basic. So
- 47:20Speaker 2: the whole thing is the only thing basic about us
- 47:23Speaker 2: is our ingredients. Let's go basic, b extra. So I've asked.
- 47:27Speaker 3: All the time, name your day on a plate, what's
- 47:30Speaker 3: your ideal day? What should I eat? What should I eat?
- 47:32Speaker 2: And it's kind of like annoys me a little bit,
- 47:35Speaker 2: like I get it, but it is a bit frustrating
- 47:37Speaker 2: sometimes because essentially, like no fad diet is gonna work,
- 47:40Speaker 2: like there's no there's no miracle this is. And so
- 47:43Speaker 2: the whole thing was go back to basics. Don't eat
- 47:46Speaker 2: things out of a packet, Like I'm a widow. I
- 47:48Speaker 2: know I am, but like I've never ordered in seamless
- 47:50Speaker 2: in my life, you know, I mean, And now I'm
- 47:51Speaker 2: so stubborn.
- 47:52Speaker 3: I will never order in seals. Yeah, and it's kind
- 47:54Speaker 3: of like cook at.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Home actually, like go back to real food, and so
- 47:58Speaker 2: that's how we started. We got the name Go Basic
- 48:01Speaker 2: because it's bringing everything back to basics. All there are
- 48:03Speaker 2: things are real ingredients. There's noble shit involved at all.
- 48:06Speaker 2: It's things you can snacks, you can travel with because
- 48:09Speaker 2: we travel so much as you do as well, and
- 48:12Speaker 2: when we get to an airport or anything like that,
- 48:14Speaker 2: there's no options, you know, and so there's no healthy
- 48:16Speaker 2: snacking options for you when you're on the go, and
- 48:18Speaker 2: if you're always on the go, it's just annoying.
- 48:20Speaker 1: So yeah, I hear that. Okay, so you have regular
- 48:24Speaker 1: chocolates that come in a little package. You have what
- 48:26Speaker 1: are you what kind of stuff do you have?
- 48:28Speaker 2: So we've got our edibles, so it's the CBD chocolate.
- 48:31Speaker 2: So right now we've got our regular flavor and then
- 48:33Speaker 2: we just launched Rows and then we've got two new
- 48:35Speaker 2: flavors coming out in the month, which is exciting. And
- 48:39Speaker 2: then we also have protein balls nice so they're yeah,
- 48:43Speaker 2: they're like.
- 48:44Speaker 3: Raw, vegan, gluten free, paleo volcanic.
- 48:46Speaker 1: All those millennials.
- 48:50Speaker 2: And then we're actually about to launch our range of spreadables,
- 48:53Speaker 2: which would be awesome.
- 48:54Speaker 3: So wow, I know.
- 48:55Speaker 2: So it's gonna be jars of like spreadable edibles and
- 48:58Speaker 2: then spreadable cookie dough, and like, I really feel like
- 49:01Speaker 2: this might this might be a game changer.
- 49:02Speaker 3: I'm like putting it out there now, guys.
- 49:04Speaker 1: You can witness this right now.
- 49:06Speaker 3: But it's it's like crack. I don't know how I've
- 49:08Speaker 3: done it. I'm really wow.
- 49:10Speaker 1: And these are all things that you're kind of crafting
- 49:12Speaker 1: from the get go in your kitchen and messing around
- 49:14Speaker 1: with them.
- 49:15Speaker 3: Wow, and then forcing Jill to taste it and be
- 49:17Speaker 3: like what about this? What about this? Let's do this.
- 49:20Speaker 1: It's impressive that you've never ordered seamless? Is that a vert?
- 49:23Speaker 1: Is that true?
- 49:24Speaker 3: That's true?
- 49:24Speaker 1: True?
- 49:25Speaker 3: No, I know.
- 49:25Speaker 2: And so now that I've now it's like that thing
- 49:27Speaker 2: of like telling people to make me accountable.
- 49:29Speaker 3: I will never ort to see what do you do?
- 49:31Speaker 1: You just not eat if it's like really late and
- 49:33Speaker 1: you're tired and there's nothing around.
- 49:35Speaker 2: No I cook, No matter what, I will cook. So
- 49:37Speaker 2: I'm I'm a bit of a I think it's because
- 49:40Speaker 2: my New York life is not real. Okay, our lives
- 49:43Speaker 2: aren't in New York are ridiculous. It's a very not
- 49:45Speaker 2: normal things, you know what I mean. So cooking is
- 49:48Speaker 2: something for me that grounds me. It's a stress reliever,
- 49:51Speaker 2: but it also makes me feel normal.
- 49:53Speaker 1: You.
- 49:54Speaker 2: Yes, I'm traveling half the month all the time, and
- 49:56Speaker 2: I'm always around, I'm running around like crazy and whatever.
- 50:00Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, I find out
- 50:02Speaker 2: I can come home, I can cook, I feel normal.
- 50:04Speaker 3: It's great. I still love anyhow, don't get me wrong.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Like I'll lay it out like two or three times
- 50:08Speaker 2: a week, but at the most part, I always cook,
- 50:11Speaker 2: and I do like my weekly grocery shop.
- 50:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a thing. It's a process, and I just
- 50:15Speaker 3: need to stick with it.
- 50:16Speaker 1: For someone who wants to be really healthy but feels
- 50:18Speaker 1: like they have no time to prep anything, what would
- 50:21Speaker 1: be like a couple of go to suggestions you would
- 50:23Speaker 1: offer them if they're coming home at like eat thirty,
- 50:26Speaker 1: they're zonked and they just need to make something okay.
- 50:29Speaker 2: So honestly, I like, I have a couple of Instagram
- 50:32Speaker 2: highlights about this because and I do it with the
- 50:34Speaker 2: timer as well, Like I can do dinner in six minutes, okay,
- 50:37Speaker 2: and everyone can do dinner in six minutes. So it's
- 50:41Speaker 2: it's like basically, pick three vegetables, okay, you chop them
- 50:44Speaker 2: up your pan, frying them in coconut oil.
- 50:46Speaker 3: Then you're picking.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Maybe two spices, one spice, doesn't even matter, covering it
- 50:50Speaker 2: that sort, hanging them until they're like kind of brown.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Then you're putting them aside, like so in a bowl.
- 50:55Speaker 3: I love a bowl. I'm a big fan of a bowl.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Guys, by the way, you're from Australia.
- 50:58Speaker 3: We love that.
- 51:00Speaker 2: So then it's so great. So veggies are done, they're
- 51:03Speaker 2: sitting to the side. Then it's like two handfuls of
- 51:05Speaker 2: spinach in a bowl, throw the veggies on top. Then
- 51:07Speaker 2: if I'm being really lazy, I'll like crack two eggs, great,
- 51:11Speaker 2: cook them.
- 51:12Speaker 3: That's it done.
- 51:13Speaker 2: Then it's like half an avocado sour kraut, and like
- 51:16Speaker 2: that you're done.
- 51:17Speaker 3: Wow, and it's actually delicious. But I like doing like
- 51:20Speaker 3: little stories on Instagram to show.
- 51:21Speaker 2: People how quick it is because with all my cooking
- 51:24Speaker 2: and all my recipes, nothing no matter what, even when
- 51:26Speaker 2: if people have for dinner, we'll take more than twenty minutes.
- 51:28Speaker 3: It can't because cooking just can't take up that much time.
- 51:32Speaker 2: Too.
- 51:32Speaker 1: So then tell me, aside from cooking, how else do
- 51:36Speaker 1: you release stress as someone that's constantly on the go.
- 51:41Speaker 2: I think it would be Yeah, cooking obviously. Yes, Instagram's
- 51:46Speaker 2: a bit of an outlet for me. Sometimes it's just
- 51:47Speaker 2: kind of weird because it's just nice, like that creative element.
- 51:50Speaker 3: I like it.
- 51:51Speaker 2: And then working out. I still love working out, ye,
- 51:55Speaker 2: but if I get out of New York. For me,
- 51:58Speaker 2: it's like anything outdoors. I love the outdoors, so hiking.
- 52:01Speaker 2: If I could hike every day, I'd be the happiest
- 52:03Speaker 2: girl in the world.
- 52:04Speaker 3: I love it so much.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Yeah. How's that on your back?
- 52:07Speaker 3: Amazing?
- 52:07Speaker 1: Yeah, really good for my back.
- 52:09Speaker 2: So I think that's why I'm now loving all these
- 52:10Speaker 2: like non impact things.
- 52:12Speaker 1: That's great, all right, So we're starting to wind down here.
- 52:15Speaker 1: A question I love to ask people. If you look
- 52:18Speaker 1: back right now on your last six years in New York,
- 52:20Speaker 1: as you've been building your brand, what would you say
- 52:23Speaker 1: has been one of the best pieces of advice that
- 52:26Speaker 1: someone has offered you.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Oh that's such tough fun.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Look, I think I was brought up with the mentality
- 52:36Speaker 2: of like and this is literally words for my mother,
- 52:39Speaker 2: like like literally like fuck, what everyone else thinks, as
- 52:43Speaker 2: long as you're happy, healthy and you're not harming yourself,
- 52:45Speaker 2: we don't care.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Like and you're like, as long as you're doing you're absolute.
- 52:48Speaker 2: Whatever you do when you as you're growing up, or
- 52:51Speaker 2: like when you know, when what I want to do
- 52:53Speaker 2: when I grow up, whatever it is, It's like, if
- 52:54Speaker 2: you want to be a garbage collector, you just be
- 52:56Speaker 2: the best fucking garbage collector you can. And so it's like,
- 52:59Speaker 2: whatever you do, make sure you're the best at it,
- 53:01Speaker 2: and just keep working at it until you're.
- 53:03Speaker 3: The best at it.
- 53:04Speaker 2: But I've that has been like ingrained in me my
- 53:07Speaker 2: entire life. I've always just I've just I have to
- 53:10Speaker 2: do things. I won't release a product or do anything
- 53:13Speaker 2: if I know it's not going to be the best
- 53:14Speaker 2: on the market or it's not a contender for the
- 53:16Speaker 2: best on the market, because why half as say anything.
- 53:19Speaker 2: So I think that because it's been mentality I've been
- 53:22Speaker 2: grown up with, has really stuck with me. Especially being
- 53:24Speaker 2: in New York and being away from everyone and being
- 53:26Speaker 2: in a city that hustles all the time. I think
- 53:29Speaker 2: that's something that's really been major.
- 53:30Speaker 1: How often do you go back home?
- 53:33Speaker 2: I try to go back once a year, but recently
- 53:35Speaker 2: it's been more than that, So once or twice a year.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, and now I'm assuming you have a little
- 53:40Speaker 1: bit more of a community than you ed still here.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's for me, like this is more home than Australia.
- 53:45Speaker 2: I love Australia, it will always be home, but New
- 53:48Speaker 2: York is so home for me.
- 53:49Speaker 3: I love it. It's great.
- 53:51Speaker 1: You have an opportunity right now to offer the back
- 53:54Speaker 1: who is suffering through three simultaneous injuries pretty much a
- 53:59Speaker 1: piece of it. Base looking back on that hurtle moment, Now,
- 54:02Speaker 1: what do you tell her?
- 54:05Speaker 3: Uh, it's going to get so much worse.
- 54:08Speaker 2: So you're really upset about a broken foot, right, Well,
- 54:12Speaker 2: I was like because when I hurt my foot, I
- 54:14Speaker 2: had that many like oh my god, this is awful.
- 54:16Speaker 2: And I was more upset about my foot being broken
- 54:19Speaker 2: than my spinal surgery because I had no idea that
- 54:22Speaker 2: the spinal surgery was coming to right, So I think
- 54:25Speaker 2: I would have told myself to just chill, it's gonna
- 54:27Speaker 2: be fine.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Because like, this's the best way to take it.
- 54:30Speaker 2: And so I think maybe the pre injuries to the
- 54:34Speaker 2: surgery really made me deal with the surgery so much
- 54:37Speaker 2: better because I did not deal with those as well
- 54:39Speaker 2: as I did the surgery.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Right, Oh my god, I am. You're a little ball
