- 2:50Sunny mornings send you. In local news, Governor
- 2:56Maura Healey has made it clear she is against
- 2:58a potential 20 -26 ballot question that would
- 3:02impose a hard cap on annual rent increases in
- 3:05Massachusetts. During an interview with Boston
- 3:08Public Radio, she acknowledged the need for affordable
- 3:12housing, but emphasized that rent control is
- 3:15not the solution. Healey highlighted her administration's
- 3:19efforts to build more homes. noting a current
- 3:21housing shortage of 220 ,000 units. While some
- 3:27advocate for rent control to improve housing
- 3:29stability, Healy insists that halting production
- 3:32will only worsen the crisis. She also expressed
- 3:36support for a transparency measure concerning
- 3:38public records held by the legislature and governor's
- 3:42office. Now onto sports. Lamar Jackson is doubtful
- 3:52to play on Saturday night against the Green Bay
- 3:54Packers after missing practice again on Thursday.
- 3:59Ravens coach John Harbaugh indicated Jackson
- 4:01sustained a deep tissue contusion in his back
- 4:04during a game against the New England Patriots.
- 4:08If Jackson cannot play, Tyler Huntley will start
- 4:11his second game of the season. The Ravens, with
- 4:15a record of 7 -8, must win to keep their playoff
- 4:18popes alive. Failing to make the playoffs would
- 4:22mark 2025 as one of the most disappointing seasons
- 4:25in Raven's history. In local sports. Tonight,
- 4:31as the Celtics hold an 18 -11 record, currently
- 4:34sitting third in the Eastern Conference, they
- 4:37face off against the Indiana Pacers, who are
- 4:40struggling at 6 -24 in 14th place. The Pacers
- 4:44are looking to break a three -game home losing
- 4:47streak against Boston. They have a record of
- 4:504 -14 against Eastern Conference teams, averaging
- 4:5413 .1 turnovers per game. In contrast, the Celtics
- 4:59are 14 -8 in conference games, ranking 6th in
- 5:03the NBA with 12 .6 offensive rebounds per game.
- 5:08The last matchup resulted in a Celtics victory,
- 5:11103 -95, with Jalen Brown scoring 31 points.
- 5:16And on Sunday, the Pats visit the Jets, aiming
- 5:19to finish 20 -25 with a perfect record of eight
- 5:23wins and zero losses on the road. They seek to
- 5:27maintain their division lead and stay alive for
- 5:30the AFC top seed. The Patriots clinched a playoff
- 5:34berth last week with a thrilling comeback win
- 5:37over the Ravens, powered by Drake May's first
- 5:40300 -yard passing game and his first fourth quarter
- 5:43comeback. At 12 wins and three losses, New England
- 5:48controls its AFC East destiny and still has a
- 5:52shot at the number one seed if they win out and
- 5:54Denver slips up. The three wins and 12 losses,
- 5:59Jets have dropped three straight blowout losses
- 6:01behind back of quarterback Brady Cook, and their
- 6:04offense has sputtered. In top news, Gabapentin
- 6:10has surged in popularity as an alternative to
- 6:13opioids. but risks have emerged for patients.
- 6:17John Evry, a 33 -year -old from Newark, Illinois,
- 6:21experienced severe withdrawal symptoms after
- 6:24taking gabapentin. These symptoms have dramatically
- 6:27altered his life, leading to shaking, burning
- 6:30sensations, and inability to sleep. Despite being
- 6:35approved decades ago for seizures, most prescriptions
- 6:38are off -label, raising safety concerns. Studies
- 6:42link gabapentin to risks such as dementia and
- 6:45severe breathing issues. As prescriptions double
- 6:49over the past 15 years, the combination with
- 6:52opioids is alarming as it has contributed to
- 6:56thousands of overdose deaths. In business news,
- 7:02the NFL Christmas games have moved to Netflix
- 7:05and Amazon as sports begin to shift to streaming.
- 7:09Amazon and YouTube TV lead the spending for United
- 7:12States sports streaming rights. Together, they
- 7:16account for 65 % of the $6 .5 billion that streamers
- 7:20will spend on sports rights for United States
- 7:23audiences in 2025. Amazon has paid $11 billion
- 7:28for the NFL's Thursday Night Football and $19
- 7:31.8 billion for NBA rights. YouTube has spent
- 7:36$14 billion to secure NFL Sunday ticket rights.
- 7:41Ampere forecasts global spending on sports rights
- 7:44to rise by 20 % to $78 billion by 2030. In crypto
- 7:50movement, Bitcoin is unchanged for the week at
- 7:54just over $89 ,000. Ethereum is down 2 % to just
