- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome back to the Big Life Podcast. I'm Leah Klinke.
- 0:05And I'm Kate Phillips and we're so excited to be here today for episode 13.
- 0:10Yes, it's an exciting time in women's soccer. Lots of games have been played.
- 0:14We've got a lot more to go.
- 0:16But let's first talk about just how our games went this week.
- 0:20So Kate, how was your game this week?
- 0:22It was alright. We played Vanderbilt. We ended up losing 2-0.
- 0:25Vanderbilt's actually a really, really good team.
- 0:29I honestly I think they're one of the best teams
- 0:32we've played so far very disciplined they I mean they take shots from everywhere
- 0:37but they're a good team we we haven't found the back of the net in a while which
- 0:42is kind of unfortunate but you know still have three games left so so how are your games this week,
- 0:50They were good. Well, first off, I know one of my best friends from club plays
- 0:55on Vanderbilt. She's like their center back. Her name is Margo Matula.
- 0:58She's blonde. She's very good.
- 1:00But yeah, the goals would come for sure. I mean, still like three,
- 1:04four games left. So you guys still have some time.
- 1:07For our games, we did very good this week. We beat FSU.
- 1:12And then on Sunday, we played SMU and we beat them as well.
- 1:16For our FSU game, we beat them 4-2. But we were down 2-0.
- 1:22And so we came back and scored four unanswered goals, which was just amazing
- 1:27to see. And, like, just the fight, like, from my team.
- 1:30Like, I'm so proud of everyone. And so just proud of kind of how we,
- 1:34like, never gave up, stayed determined, and just, like, fought till the end.
- 1:38So, yeah, it was 2-0. And then with five minutes left in the first half,
- 1:42we scored. So it was 2-1. So that was good going into half. We kind of had the momentum.
- 1:46And then I think at that halftime talk, we just knew.
- 1:49We are like we are not like losing this game like it's there
- 1:53for us to take and I mean we did just that
- 1:56and scoring more goals I mean that game was so much
- 1:58fun obviously we have a lot to improve on and
- 2:01FSU is such a good team they have
- 2:04like really great players all their two goals were really great
- 2:07but we've gotten scored on a lot
- 2:10so we we definitely have some things to work on
- 2:13but yeah credit to fsu they were good and
- 2:16then we played smu on sunday they're a very good
- 2:18team defensively they're very organized we were able to beat them three to zero
- 2:25so that was also another good game for us and it was senior night so that was
- 2:29fun but also kind of sad for me but just super exciting to see kind of what's
- 2:34ahead but yeah that was like our last game at home i mean hopefully we'll.
- 2:39Hopefully we'll host some more games at home, like, once it comes to the tournament.
- 2:43But definitely, like, crazy that that was senior night for me. So, yeah.
- 2:50Yeah, did your entire family, like, come up and come and stuff?
- 2:54Yeah, so my brother wasn't able to make it. He had work, but my younger sister
- 2:58came and then both my parents.
- 2:59So it was super fun to see them the entire week. And they stayed Thursday through
- 3:03Sunday, so they got to watch both games. And then we got to hang out a lot and
- 3:07do all the senior night fun stuff.
- 3:10And then all my, like, my best friends are also seniors.
- 3:14So all of our families, like, got together a bunch. And it was a good family
- 3:18weekend for sure. And good soccer, too, because we were able to win. So...
- 3:24Yeah, a good weekend overall for Notre Dame, for sure.
- 3:27Yeah, sounds like it. It's always fun also, like, having your parents.
- 3:31You had two home games, so having your parents there for the whole, like, week.
- 3:35It's always, like, fun to just hang out with them. Especially,
- 3:39like, getting a little bit of a break.
- 3:41Yes, so much fun. Yeah, and there was a football game, too. So my parents were
- 3:46able to, like, we went to the football game for a little, too.
- 3:49So, I mean, the whole experience this weekend. But, yeah, super fun.
- 3:52I'm sad they're all gone it's like weird because
- 3:55I'm like so excited for these things like oh so excited for
- 3:58senior night like so excited for this game that game and then it just
- 4:01like comes and goes so fast I'm like oh
- 4:05my gosh like it's I'm like trying to stay in the present but it's
- 4:07hard because I'm just like it's just gonna come and go and now
- 4:10it's gone and three more games left for us
- 4:13and then we're to postseason so I
- 4:17mean things are almost coming to an end which is exciting but also like nerve-wracking
- 4:22and scary because I mean got to keep winning got to win the last few games to
- 4:28have a good position a good place to even qualify and get in for postseason so yeah.
- 4:36It's so we say
- 4:39this like pretty often though like it just
- 4:41flies by like season flies by just because it's
- 4:44like you get in your little routine like every
- 4:48week and then you're just like I don't know every
- 4:51day like seems slow the days seem
- 4:54slow the weeks fly by yes and you're
- 4:57just like oh my gosh this whole week like
- 5:00get by this fast even though like your days
- 5:03are long they just fly fly right by yeah no I would totally agree for us this
- 5:09next week in school is like our fall break so we actually get the whole week
- 5:12off which is really nice but yeah that means it's like the Semester's already
- 5:16halfway over and season is like more than halfway over. So, I mean, that's kind of crazy.
- 5:22But for us, it's nice to have...
- 5:25Fall break off we do have like all of our midterms this week so
- 5:28i have so much work and midterm stuff this week but then after that we'll be
- 5:32off of school which is nice and then we have our big we have a big away trip
- 5:37to the east coast where we'll play virginia tech in wake forest so we'll be
- 5:42gone like thursday through sunday playing or i guess we'll travel wednesday
- 5:45so wednesday through sunday.
- 5:47During fall break but then before fall break we're just training
- 5:51hanging out and resting from school which is a really
- 5:53good break that we'll have so we're excited for that yeah
- 5:57getting a we don't have fall break i think
- 6:00our we were talking about this a little bit before but i
- 6:03think our fall break goes into thanksgiving i don't
- 6:06know something wish missouri had fall break because i
- 6:09could use a break from school but no
- 6:13having like a week off of just like school is like
- 6:16so nice of just like a liftoff of
- 6:19like just focusing on soccer
- 6:22and like getting relaxed during the day obviously you'll
- 6:25have practice and like treatment and film and whatnot but just like
- 6:29not worrying about school is like actually the best feeling ever like that's
- 6:33about also pre-season is like you're literally just focusing on soccer and it's
- 6:38like I don't even need like I don't know your brain is just focused on soccer
- 6:43and then it's like I guess the fact that comes with school.
- 6:47Yeah. Right. No, it's so nice to just have soccer and then like the rest of
- 6:51the time it's just like fun with teammates.
- 6:53I think this fall break we're going to go shopping in Chicago one day.
- 6:58We're going to go just for the day to Chicago and get brunch and go shopping like on our off day.
- 7:03So that'll be fun for us. And then we're going to have like a Halloween fall
- 7:07like pumpkin movie night or something.
- 7:10One of the days of fall break also. So just fun things to do, I guess.
- 7:16Everyone's like going to be gone. Everyone will go home like from campus.
- 7:19So it's just going to be our team, I guess, and some other athletes.
- 7:23But it's definitely nice to have a break from school just because it is so busy.
- 7:28And I mean, we always talk about soccer on this podcast, but it's,
- 7:31I mean, we talked about school last week a lot, but I mean, school is such a big part of it.
- 7:37Just the whole experience of being a student-athlete, it's not just about soccer.
- 7:40Like, that's not even half of it. Like, school is just as important,
- 7:45or more important, in my opinion.
- 7:48So, yeah, it's going to be nice to have a break for us, for sure.
- 7:51Who are you guys playing this next week?
- 7:53We play Texas A&M on Thursday, and then senior night, last home game, Arkansas on Sunday.
- 8:03Sorry, I'm getting like, my days are all like, that's what I was saying. the
- 8:06weeks I get confused with all my days but yeah
- 8:10we go to A&M we leave tomorrow which is
- 8:13Wednesday and then we'll get down there and then play on Thursday I'm excited
- 8:18to play there though I've heard the environment I don't know if you've ever
- 8:21played at A&M probably seen like the environment or whatever but I've just heard
- 8:26that the fans are like crazy and like on top of the goal and like on top of
- 8:30you so I'm kind of excited for that I think yeah,
- 8:33So, Texas A&M, I live in Houston, so Texas A&M is like an hour away.
- 8:38So, we've had like a bunch of club things there. Like, I've gone to a bunch
- 8:41to like see their games and stuff there too.
- 8:43It is such a nice field and it is a great environment to play at.
- 8:47But yeah, there's definitely going to be some heckling, I'm sure.
- 8:50I mean, they're like big stadium like all around with, yeah,
- 8:54a bunch of fans that can be like right behind the goal.
- 8:56So, for sure, they're definitely like right on top of you. But it's a really fun environment.
- 9:01And that's exciting. You guys are going to Texas. I wish we played in Texas.
- 9:06Yeah, that'll be our only Texas trip this year. But no, I'm actually excited. I think it's fun.
- 9:13The fans are heckling you. I don't know. I think it's fun. It's fun. Yeah, for sure.
- 9:19I think when we played at Tennessee this year, there was guys behind the goal,
- 9:24and they were messing with me the whole game.
- 9:25I bet they've messed with you so much, especially. I know.
- 9:28It's not funny, though. but like they're like they pull
- 9:31up your instagram they'll like they do like the whole
- 9:34thing of course i think it's actually hilarious like
- 9:37they like make me laugh obviously during the
- 9:40game like i'm like acting like they're not like when my
- 9:43back is like to obviously to them like i'm like laughing at them just yeah like
- 9:48i don't know i just yeah yeah no there's definitely like a lot of like heckling
- 9:54and stuff i feel like in college soccer just from the fans on the sideline and
- 9:58even like Like, we've had some, like.
- 10:01Not bad—I mean, I guess kind of bad experiences, but, like, even,
- 10:04like, the bench of the other team is sometimes, like, heckling or,
- 10:08like, mean to the field players.
- 10:09Like, we've had instances where, like, refs have to have—like,
- 10:13have to get involved, um—.
- 10:15So, I mean, it's something you just kind of got to deal with and, like, ignore.
- 10:19It's funny, but then it can also get in your head, too. So how do you kind of handle that?
- 10:23I honestly, I don't really, like, I don't know. I don't really let it get in
- 10:27my head. I honestly think they're funny.
- 10:29Like, whoever is back there, like, they're always just, it's always some guy.
- 10:34Like, it's never, like, a girl. It's always, like, some guy is just back there,
- 10:37like, heckling. I don't know. I just think it's funny. Like, I just laugh.
- 10:42Because I haven't had anybody, like, say anything, like, mean.
- 10:45Or like out of pocket thing or something.
- 10:48Maybe if somebody was, I would say something to the ref if it was like bothering me.
- 10:53But no, I just kind of like let it brush off and like laugh.
- 10:57It's just like the moment. I think the worst I've probably had isn't even during
- 11:03college. It was like for summer league.
- 11:05We were playing for like USL.
- 11:09We were playing in Detroit for a USL. like it
- 11:13was like uslw league but i forget what exactly it
- 11:16was like one of the conference things to make it to the
- 11:19finals and they had these fans like grown older men and they were like saying
- 11:26some like very crazy stuff and the ref was like you guys need to like cut it
- 11:31out like and we had people like obviously on our team that were like older as well like,
- 11:37This was, like, two years ago. I was going into my sophomore year.
- 11:41And we had, like, older girls.
- 11:43And they were, like, telling the ref, they're like, these guys cannot be saying that.
- 11:47But, like, that's the only time I've ever, like, had an incident.
- 11:50Besides that, like, people just say funny things. Yeah.
- 11:53Yeah. I don't know if you've had, like. That's kind of crazy for a summer league.
- 11:56No, they take it very serious. Because they travel with, like,
- 12:00the USL, like, men's teams.
- 12:02So, like, when it's. Oh, like, their fans travel?
- 12:06Yes. like we'll have fans like that at our yeah
- 12:09wow like our fans are
- 12:11kind of like out of they say stuff too that i'm just yeah but
- 12:16yeah they because they're like the fans for the men's teams and
- 12:19then they'll come to the women's games too and
- 12:22they do like drums and like yeah wow smoke
- 12:26when the goals are scored like there's like a lot of people there i remember
- 12:29right one and they're like on the field like it's like a bowl
- 12:32so they're like oh I see yeah that's kind
- 12:35of a fun environment though yeah but I haven't had any bad
- 12:38experiences I don't know have you had any like bad experiences um
- 12:41I'd say yes like I can't even like pick out any specific places or anything
- 12:47but there's definitely been some like places where there's just like people
- 12:52saying not nice things to people on our field just like pulling up their social
- 12:56medias and like commenting on,
- 12:58things which don't even relate to soccer or like
- 13:01we've had problems with like the
- 13:04benches of other teams too like not even
- 13:07chirping but like just like doing saying
- 13:11like just like mean things to you like right on the field like if you're throwing
- 13:15in the ball like right next to them or something and it's like yeah I mean like
- 13:18it is just part of the game like you just have to deal with that like people
- 13:22are going to chirp you but especially like our coaches are big about like having
- 13:26class Like, always being humble,
- 13:28having humility, and just, like, having class. So, like—.
- 13:32Where our coaches are always, like, reminding everyone on the bench and stuff,
- 13:36like, we're only cheering for our team.
- 13:37Like, we're not saying anything about the other team. So, if we,
- 13:40like, get in a good tackle or something or play good defense and we're,
- 13:44like, our bench goes crazy. Our bench is actually insane.
- 13:48Then they're, like, super loud about that. But it's, like, only cheering,
- 13:50like, what we do. Like, not commenting on anything they do.
- 13:53So, yeah. I feel like that's a good rule to keep in mind.
- 13:56But it's also, like, when you're, like, getting in the game or when you're,
- 14:00like, so, like, into the game, it's so easy to just, like, say,
- 14:05like, chirpy things to the other team.
- 14:07I definitely have before. So I'm, like, not one to, like, be preaching all this.
- 14:12But, I mean, it gets intense.
- 14:14But I guess it's just part of the game. Yeah, I think it is.
- 14:18I don't really say. I don't know. I don't, like, say. I only get mad if there's,
- 14:22like, moments of somebody's just, like, doing stuff.
- 14:25Like yeah it's always like for me when i get mad is like on like corner kicks or something.
- 14:31And just something's happening and players
- 14:34not getting out of my way and like it's like not fair yeah i'll get mad but
- 14:40besides that i'm just kind of like i don't know i'm kind of like low-key about
- 14:43that i don't know i don't really care yeah that's good that's the way to be
- 14:47but i also can't hear things like on the field like over by the benches and
- 14:52stuff but like i've definitely had like,
- 14:55I don't know, like, teams. Like, Mississippi State has, like,
- 14:57a thing, and they'll, like, bark at you. Oh, yeah.
- 15:01Yes. Laughing! I'm, like, why are you just barking?
- 15:04It's funny, yeah. Sometimes I'll turn around and just be, like,
- 15:07what the heck, like, what? Like, something like that. Just, like, yeah.
- 15:10It's so interesting. But, yeah, definitely a part of the game.
- 15:13And I think it makes it, like, it makes the environment fun.
- 15:16Yeah, it does. It, like, brings up the energy, for sure. And it makes you,
- 15:20like, want to, like, get back at them. Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:24That's funny. Let's talk kind of a little bit about Some of the games this past week.
- 15:29So what caught my eye was Virginia was number one and they Flew all the way
- 15:36coast to coast to california.
- 15:37They played cal and stanford And they tied cal and then they lost to stanford two to one.
- 15:43I'm I thought that was Interesting. I mean all those three teams are very good
- 15:47virginia, especially really good. They were tied number one but.
- 15:51I think it's interesting how, like, I wonder what the results would be if they
- 15:56were home instead of away.
- 15:57Like, I think really traveling, especially coast to coast, that's like,
- 16:01what, a four, five-hour flight probably?
- 16:03Like, even more, six hours? Like, that really takes a toll on you,
- 16:07especially when you're in the middle of school and everything else.
- 16:10So, that was kind of interesting to me.
- 16:13I mean, obviously, selfishly, that was good for our team that they tied and lost.
- 16:19But, yeah, no, that's interesting. It's definitely hard to play away,
- 16:22especially if it's super far away like that.
- 16:25Yeah, I would love to, like, obviously you guys, your, like,
- 16:31conference is, like, completely across the country, literally coast to coast. Same with Big Ten.
- 16:36We're fortunate that it's, like, not that for us.
- 16:41But I would just love to see, like, the results for teams when they are,
- 16:47we've talked about this, I mean, away games are hard.
- 16:50But just traveling like from east
- 16:54coast west coast west coast east coast time change too is yeah so crazy because
- 16:59when you're going west coast or east coast to west coast like your time change
- 17:03is like crazy off you could be playing like 6 p.m game and it could be what like 9,
- 17:11yeah it was like 9 p.m yeah yeah.
- 17:13Yeah it's like i don't know obviously this has been talked about a lot with
- 17:18different sports teams um but for soccer it's just hard because it's like one
- 17:24game and quick turnaround.
- 17:27Right yeah it's kind of i
- 17:30wonder when they like flew up or flew to california probably
- 17:33i'm guessing on like tuesday when they played on thursday yeah
- 17:37i think it was interesting i mean if you of two games
- 17:40like you kind of have to adjust to the time so we played but we
- 17:43played stanford last year and we just flew for one
- 17:46game then flew back and we did
- 17:49it where our coaches and everyone i mean they got this information from like
- 17:54all the health our doctors and stuff behind it but we like stayed since it's
- 17:59three-hour time change we stayed on eastern time so like our coaches were telling
- 18:03us like when we get there like it's like try to go to bed at like 8 p.m.
- 18:09Or like whatever because that's like 11 p.m. our time and our breakfast was at like 6 a.m.
- 18:13California time because it like was like 9 a.m. our time so we like tried to
- 18:17stay on our time because it was such a like a quick turnaround and only like
- 18:21a one-day thing so that was kind of interesting that's what we did but
- 18:25since they stayed there longer I'm sure they were adjusting to the time and everything,
- 18:29But yeah, no, it's definitely hard to play away.
- 18:32Yeah, definitely. Another game that was pretty interesting was Florida upset Mississippi State.
- 18:39And I know in that game, I didn't watch it because it was the same time as our game, but,
- 18:46Both teams had a red card. And I don't know exactly what happened,
- 18:50but I've heard kind of people talk about what have happened,
- 18:54but that's not the point.
- 18:56But both of them played with 10 players at some point in the second half and
- 19:00then ended up scoring late in the second half, which, I mean,
- 19:05I think it was like one of their first.
- 19:10Upsets of a ranked team.
- 19:12I don't know. Something like that. Oh, nice.
- 19:15That's crazy Both teams playing with 10 players I mean I guess that's better
- 19:21Than one team playing with one player down Yeah,
- 19:25And then both those players are out Then for the next game I'm pretty sure Yeah.
- 19:33For Mississippi State I know that the player that got the red For them was Allie
- 19:36Perry Who is their Like engine in their midfield Really good player So that'll
- 19:45be interesting to see how that works for them.
- 19:47I mean, they have a lot of good players on their team, but she's really good, so.
- 19:51Yeah, yeah. I didn't really see what happened, or I didn't get a chance to watch
- 19:55that game either, but that's crazy.
- 19:56Two red cards. I haven't really heard of many red cards this season at all, so that's kind of crazy.
- 20:02And then the other game that stuck out to me was Duke played UNC,
- 20:06so that's always a rivalry. And Duke won 3-2.
- 20:10I wasn't able to watch much of this game either, but it seems very back and forth.
- 20:16But that seems like a fair score. Both those teams are really good.
- 20:20Duke just pulled away with the win.
- 20:23Yeah, they're playing great teams.
- 20:29Not great, but they've just had a tough schedule so far. Yeah, for sure.
- 20:35I saw the Duke, one of their... I don't know if it was their last goal or one
- 20:39of their goals, but it was a banger. And I...
- 20:43I think from the video, I don't know if it actually happened,
- 20:46but I think the ball like hit the crossbar, hit the goalkeeper and went in,
- 20:49which is just like, you're just like, whatever.
- 20:52In that point, I mean, it was a great strike. Yeah.
- 20:56I'm pretty sure how it looked. It hit her, came off, hit her and went in,
- 21:00which is just like, yeah, dang.
- 21:04Yeah, that's so unfortunate. Really unfortunate. Okay, so how many games do
- 21:10you guys have left this season?
- 21:13We have three, guaranteed. We need to win two of them, make the SEC tournament,
- 21:19and then obviously chances for NCAA tournament.
- 21:21But yeah, three, guaranteed.
- 21:24Yeah. Ours is three, too. So that's crazy. So like three weeks from now, like over half of,
- 21:32The teams for NCAA Division of Women's Soccer will be done with their season.
- 21:37That's crazy to think about. Yeah.
- 21:39But yeah. So it's really, I feel like in these last three games,
- 21:42people are going to be fighting.
- 21:44Fighting to stay in. Fighting for their seniors. Fighting for their team.
- 21:47Just everyone to get one last game of the season. Because you never know.
- 21:53Once you get into these tournaments, you never know when the last game is going
- 21:55to be. So everyone's going to be fighting.
- 21:59Yeah, teams are definitely trying to just do the best they can in these last three games too.
- 22:05Yeah. The best chances of making tournaments and getting good seeds and stuff like that.
- 22:10One thing that we work on a little bit once we start getting near the end of
- 22:16the season a lot is penalties. And just if we get into that scenario,
- 22:22who takes them, kind of what we do.
- 22:25Do you kind of have a routine with that? do
- 22:28you take a penalty like what's your kind of thoughts on
- 22:31that yeah so kind of
- 22:34like your team we definitely once we get into these tournaments like we start
- 22:37practicing pks and it's crazy because once you get into the tournaments and
- 22:41you tie like can't end in a tie anymore so you go into overtime I think it's
- 22:46two periods of 10 minutes I think or 15 is it 10 yeah,
- 22:51I think it's 10 and then you'll go into PKs after that.
- 22:55So yeah, definitely once we get into the tournaments, we'll be practicing PKs
- 22:59like probably almost after almost every practice.
- 23:03Personally, I like taking PKs. I definitely take a PK.
- 23:07I feel like I definitely I have the routine. I have a routine that I do every
- 23:12time and I feel like it's just confidence is the main,
- 23:17thing that I try to focus on and just like staying in the
- 23:20present moment for each like step of my routine I
- 23:22guess and then just making like
- 23:26putting the ball in a place and hitting it with enough power so
- 23:30that I have to make the keeper like make
- 23:32a save so and then
- 23:35if they make a great save then like I did all I can so
- 23:38it's like that's if I made it or if I hit a good shot and they
- 23:41made a great save then I'm like okay well that's I
- 23:44tried my best so but yeah I feel like it's just important to
- 23:47have a routine stick to the routine and like hit the
- 23:50ball hard so yeah that's kind of what I
- 23:52try to focus on when taking PKs but
- 23:55obviously have not gotten there yet or have experience with that so far you
- 24:00haven't at all in your college career oh I was thinking this year no we have
- 24:07we've had some games that I've gone to PKs I think we've been in multiple the
- 24:12The most notable that I remember is it was my...
- 24:17Freshman year, I think. Yeah, freshman year.
- 24:20We played FSU. We tied. We went into, it was the ACC tournament semifinals.
- 24:26Then we went into PKs. And it was also a crazy game.
- 24:29Like, we would get down a goal and then we would score a goal.
- 24:33We would get down and then we would score.
- 24:35And Corbin Albert, like, she's amazing, was on her team at the time.
- 24:39And she kept scoring and like doing these crazy shots and everything.
- 24:43She actually had the game of her life. It's crazy. but yeah
- 24:46no she's great obviously such a great player but
- 24:49we went into pk's and we ended up losing that shootout yeah
- 24:53i don't think i took one then i can't
- 24:56remember though i don't really remember i think
- 24:59i remember watching that because z mackenzie you
- 25:03guys a goalkeeper at the time didn't because you had this is interesting for
- 25:07people out there too like i'm pretty sure you guys would take her out she was
- 25:12their starter and you guys would take her out right for penalties and you'd
- 25:15put the your back yeah yeah we Ashley Naylor wait yes yes yes because that is just you're right,
- 25:23Like, that's just, like, so interesting because, so for goalkeepers,
- 25:27a lot of the time, I don't know, was that goal, was she really tall?
- 25:32Yeah, she was not, like, really, really tall. Like, she was just as tall as Z.
- 25:36Maybe, like, a little bit taller, but we had, like, she's a great player,
- 25:40Ashley. Her name is, she went on to play her fifth year.
- 25:44But she, and she had, like, started the year before, but then Z came in and
- 25:48was playing a lot that year. They, like, switched off at the beginning,
- 25:51but then Z came in and was playing a lot.
- 25:53But Ashley's, like, known for, I guess, being really good at PKs.
- 25:57Like, she was really, really good.
- 25:58So I guess our goalkeeper coach just decided that she would be the PK goalie,
- 26:05I guess. I forgot about that. I can't believe you remember that.
- 26:08Yeah, no, I remember watching it because it's just, like, so interesting.
- 26:12Because some goalkeepers are
- 26:14really good at penalties and reading them and just, like, getting there.
- 26:18And then some people are just like I
- 26:21don't know not the greatest at them not that they're like a
- 26:24bad goalkeeper at all which Mackenzie would
- 26:26who we're talking about literally plays for the Chicago yes
- 26:31she's amazing but yeah it's
- 26:34just like interesting because the only penalty shootout I've been in was for
- 26:40this sounds so funny but for college I've been in others for stuff but we played
- 26:46Michigan State in the spring of my freshman year. And we were in like this tournament thing.
- 26:54And then if you hide, you end up going in penalties.
- 26:57And our other goalkeeper, like I played the whole game and then our backup goalkeeper,
- 27:01she's just really, really good at penalties.
- 27:04And so they put her in. But it's just like interesting because that's not something like,
- 27:09you normally see besides in that situation is they'll bring in like a different goalkeeper. Yeah.
- 27:16It's actually insane to me. Penalties is like these players have been sitting on the bend.
- 27:21Like a lot of them like don't play and they come in and just under pressure
- 27:26they're able to and they just take one kick and it's crazy. Yeah.
- 27:31Wait, I think we were in that same tournament that spring because we were in
- 27:34some random tournament too. It was at Grand Park.
- 27:38Yes! Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. We played there. We were like,
- 27:41what is this club field that we're playing at?
- 27:43That's where my club plays at. That's where I play club. Oh,
- 27:46my gosh, really? I mean, it was such a nice club field. Wow, that's insane.
- 27:50Yeah. Yeah. But, yeah, that was fun. We played, like, Xavier,
- 27:54and I think we played them then. I don't know. I can't remember. Yeah.
- 28:01But since from college. But, yeah. It's going to be super exciting.
- 28:06Like, penalties coming soon.
- 28:09Once we get into the tournaments, yeah. Also, a few other games next week that
- 28:15are going to be really good games that I'm looking forward to see is Stanford versus FSU.
- 28:19They're playing next week. They're both...
- 28:22The rankings came out this week, but I think they're both probably top five
- 28:25now. Stanford's two. I can't remember what FSU is. Probably five or six.
- 28:30So that's going to be a really good game. I'm excited to watch that one.
- 28:33And then also another ranked game, I think TCU is 14 versus Baylor, who's number 10.
- 28:40And Baylor's doing really, really well this year. They're like ranked really
- 28:43high in the RPI and everyone's rankings too.
- 28:47So that's kind of interesting to me. I was like, oh, I didn't expect to see
- 28:52Baylor, I guess, up there.
- 28:53But they're having a great year so far. So that's good for them.
- 28:57Do you know a lot of people on that team? I actually don't. I think I know a couple.
- 29:02But being from Texas, you'd think I'd know more. But I really don't.
- 29:05We didn't have—no girls from my club went to Baylor that I can remember.
- 29:10Was TCU too. Yeah, two Texas teams there.
- 29:13Yeah. Yeah, I know more people on TCU for sure. Yeah. Yeah.
- 29:18I'd seen them play Kansas. They're a good team a couple of weeks ago.
- 29:22They score a lot of goals. I remember the Kansas game, they were just like the
- 29:28last 15 minutes, I think they scored like three goals or something.
- 29:31Oh, wow. That's insane. Really going off.
- 29:34And Kansas is a good team, too. Yeah. Kansas has been doing good, too. Yeah.
- 29:39All right. Well, next week, we actually have a really exciting guest coming on.
