- 0:01Hello, welcome to Heat Hop. But something's off of me.
- 0:03Just Joey T Hey everybody, I just got back from the Oasis.
- 0:11Not the Oasis. The Atlantis Mediterranean
- 0:14cruise in Europe actually got back last week.
- 0:19Been back for about a week now. First of all, completely
- 0:22unrelated. I've got a huge Cankasore on the
- 0:25roof of my mouth right now, and it hurts like AMF to eat
- 0:32anything. I was drinking some water before
- 0:34and sometimes even drinking water hurts.
- 0:35So yeah, I just needed to get that out of the way.
- 0:39But it's been making my life very miserable.
- 0:41I first thought, do I have a throat infection?
- 0:44You know how you sometimes travel and you pick up something
- 0:49or you feel like you picked up something after you've come back
- 0:52home after you've been traveling for a bit?
- 0:53I thought it was some sort of throat infection.
- 0:57No. I looked in my mouth earlier
- 0:59today and I was looking at the back of my throat because I
- 1:03thought that's where it was hurting to swallow and eat and
- 1:07whatever. And then I just happened to have
- 1:10looked up at the roof of my mouth and just a huge giant
- 1:14canker sore there. I am prone to canker sores and
- 1:17actually switched toothpaste. I used to get canker sores on
- 1:21the inside of my lips quite often.
- 1:25It was very, very annoying. And you get a cankasore kind of
- 1:29where your teeth is on the on the inside of your lips and the
- 1:33cankasore pops up and then it makes you more likely to bite on
- 1:37where the cankasore is, which makes it even worse.
- 1:39So that's super annoying and eating a lot of foods just burns
- 1:43when you have a Cankasore. So I switched toothpaste and
- 1:48that actually made my canker sores a lot better.
- 1:50So apparently there's an ingredient called SOS that's in
- 1:54a lot of regular toothpaste, and for some people that could make
- 1:59your canker sores worse or caused to develop them.
- 2:02So that was the case for me. So I have to use SOS free
- 2:06toothpaste nowadays, which is not that hard to find, but it's
- 2:09something I to go out of my way to have to look for whenever I
- 2:13need to buy more toothpaste. But anyways, I've never gotten a
- 2:17huge canker sore like this that's on the roof of my mouth.
- 2:22I'm not even saying roof right. Anyways, yes, it's kind of back
- 2:26there in my mouth. And yeah, it it just hurts that
- 2:29that's neither here nor there is not related to the cruise.
- 2:32When I first had that, I thought I was not that study on the
- 2:36cruise, I didn't pick up anything.
- 2:37I did not have sex on the cruise.
- 2:39I can categorically say that right now all my friends think
- 2:43I'm slighter than I really am. I think that's a completely
- 2:46separate topic. We'll have to pop open that kind
- 2:49of worms at some other time. But yeah, let's talk a little
- 2:53bit about Cruz. The other thing is, I've got my
- 2:55phone here, so if at some point the phone rings, well, I'll edit
- 2:59it out of the podcast. And again, the video version of
- 3:03this podcast. You want to check out what I'm
- 3:05wearing today. I'm wearing this very lovely,
- 3:07very awesome Garson Mordell tank top from our friends at Garson.
- 3:14Send me this very lovely tank top and actually a couple other
- 3:17ones. It's not a sponsored podcast,
- 3:21but these are just really, really cool.
- 3:23I don't usually have these types of tank tops.
- 3:25They got some new designs out, so go Google them, check them
- 3:29out. They've been, I've been working
- 3:30with them, I'm not working with them.
- 3:32They've noticed my semi not really popularity on the social
- 3:38media and they've supported me with a free some free clothes
- 3:43every now and then because I usually look so poor because I
- 3:45never go to buy clothes of my own.
- 3:48So cool yeah, go Google them and check them out.
- 3:51But anyways, I've got my phone here, which I don't usually do
- 3:53because at any moment I'm expecting a phone call.
- 3:56I'm selling my car right now. I don't really have any.
- 4:02I'm just going on tangents right now.
- 4:03Sometimes on this podcast. Whatever pops into my head is
- 4:07what I'm going to talk about. I was going to talk about the
- 4:11cruise, but we're what, 5 minutes in and I've talked about
- 4:14anything that's anything but the cruise.
- 4:16But this is the experience. If you're news of the podcast
- 4:19that you can expect from this podcast, I think it triggers
- 4:23some people's ADHD. If that's the case, play
- 4:28something else. But this is like my random
- 4:30stream of consciousness. Anyways, I've got my phone here.
- 4:33Hopefully it doesn't go off and I'm recording this podcast.
- 4:36Okay. Finally, let's get to the MAD
- 4:40cruise that I was on last week. It was in Europe is for 9
- 4:43nights. It was on a pretty nice ship.
- 4:45It was on the Oasis, not the Oasis.
- 4:47Keep on seeing the Oasis. It was on the Odyssey of the
- 4:50Seas. So it's a Royal Caribbean ship.
- 4:53It's pretty nice ship. When I first got on it, walking
- 4:56through one of the main levels, I was thinking, I've been on
- 5:00this ship or like this class of ship before and I was talking to
- 5:04someone and I was on the Anthem of the Seas back in 2016 and it
- 5:09was a sister ship of the Odyssey.
- 5:11So the layout is pretty much nearly identical.
- 5:14So it fall a little bit familiar when I got on there.
- 5:17It's really good cruise. It wasn't a crazy party cruise
- 5:21like the the big cruise that I usually go on in January of
- 5:26every year and I've already booked for the January 1 this
- 5:28coming year, but this one was nice.
- 5:31I didn't get off at many of the ports, only got off at Ibiza,
- 5:36and because I've never been to Ibiza before, it's kind of like
- 5:38a thing. We'll talk about Ibiza, I've got
- 5:40some thoughts on that later on in this podcast, but I also
- 5:46didn't go with a big group of friends.
- 5:48It's really fun. I've been on a lot of the
- 5:51cruises with friends from Australia throughout the US,
- 5:55whatever. Just friends.
- 5:57We just go together and it's that's a lot of fun.
- 6:00You get to do all sorts of different things on the cruise
- 6:02together as friends. That's great.
- 6:03On this cruise, I knew some people that were going on the
- 6:07cruise, but I didn't go with them, so I actually flew over to
- 6:10Europe all by myself. Luckily my flights were not
- 6:15delayed. I took three fights with two red
- 6:17eyes to get to Europe in an attempt to save money and save
- 6:21points because finding Europe is not cheap right now.
- 6:25Flying to Europe during the summer when it's peak Europe
- 6:29vacation season, that's never been that cheap.
- 6:32But post pandemic, I think right now it's a little extra
- 6:36expensive. I booked everything on miles.
- 6:38I found pretty cheap redemption set of flights that would take
- 6:43me to Europe in time, but it was a red eye to from LA to Chicago
- 6:50and not to hang around Chicago for five or seven hours.
- 6:55And then it was another hop during the day to go to
- 6:59Washington. Dulles hung around there for I
- 7:02don't know how many hours. And then I needed to take
- 7:05another red Eye from the East Coast over to Rome, where the
- 7:10cruise was supposed to set sail. Luckily, all my flights were on
- 7:15time to run to. Rome was like a little.
- 7:17It's a bit delayed, but like I I was supposed to arrive at 8:00
- 7:20AM and there was a lot of time for me to get to the ship.
- 7:24So it was fine coming after I landed in Rome and I was still
- 7:30on the way, walking to passport control.
- 7:34It's a little bit of a walk from the gate.
- 7:35I ran into my friend DJDJ Dance later.
- 7:40It was my it was a bit of a haze, but I tried to knock
- 7:43myself out on the flight so I was like still not 100% fully
- 7:46awake, neither was he. So it was kind of fun and cool
- 7:50to run into some of that. I know at the airport getting
- 7:54off flights and took a shuttle bus from the airport to the
- 8:00cruise port terminal place, which was really, really nice.
- 8:03Had a really nice start to the vacation.
- 8:07You know, sometimes you need to travel somewhere to get to your
- 8:10vacation destination and travel, especially when it involves air
- 8:15travel. Sometimes it could be very
- 8:17aggravating, sometimes it could just be what else.
- 8:20Luckily this was a pretty nice, easy, uneventful flight set of
- 8:28flights to start on my vacation, so I was kind of thankful for
- 8:31that. Got to Rome in the morning, no
- 8:34problem. Everything was like very well
- 8:35organized. The Atlantis people had their
- 8:37signs at the tour bus and everything to take you to the
- 8:40port was already so it's like really nice start to the
- 8:43vacation. So it's very thankful for that.
- 8:44That was really awesome. Got to the terminal and I
- 8:49actually knew some of the people who are volunteering for
- 8:52Atlantis to work this cruise because I've worked with them
- 8:54before on previous volunteer assignments on different
- 8:57cruises. So that was great.
- 8:59Got on the ship. That was fine.
- 9:01It was a little bit windy when we first got there, so that they
- 9:04actually changed the itinerary. So we were we didn't leave Rome
- 9:10until technically the next morning.
- 9:14We're supposed to have left at like 7:00 PM.
- 9:16We're supposed to have pushed back from the port at 7:00 PM on
- 9:21that day. On that first day.
- 9:22We didn't leave until sometime on day 2, so they had to change
- 9:28all the ports. We're supposed to have them on a
- 9:31laptop here, so we're supposed to have gone to, I think, Naples
- 9:36on the first day. But the first day, what's right
- 9:39on the second day? Like the first full day?
- 9:41I think we're supposed to have went to Naples, but it became a
- 9:44sea day because of the weather and like the rough seas and
- 9:48stuff. I don't think we could.
- 9:49We had to leave late and we probably couldn't have gone very
- 9:52quickly without making everyone sick.
- 9:54So we went to I've got it on my laptop here, Palermo in Sicily,
- 10:00and then we went to Naples, and then we went to Les Pasa.
- 10:05Sorry, I'm butchering these Italian names of these very
- 10:09pretty, beautiful, famous locations in Italy.
- 10:12My apologies. Then we met to Monaco and then
- 10:15we went to, we didn't overnight in Ibiza originally.
- 10:18The itinerary was that I think they were supposed to stop in
- 10:21Ibiza overnight, either Friday night or Saturday night, months
- 10:25and months ago, way before the cruise happened, and people
- 10:29bought tickets for events and clubs and shows or whatever for
- 10:33like the Friday or Saturday night, whatever the original
- 10:35night was. But then it was like one or two
- 10:39months before the cruise and they had to change the
- 10:41itinerary. World Caribbean apparently had
- 10:43to change the itinerary for whatever reason.
- 10:45And then we stop. We ended up stopping in Ibiza on
- 10:48Sunday night instead. So some people were like, oh, I
- 10:51have tickets to this now, I can't go blah blah.
- 10:53Anyways, yeah, and that was the last port and then we came back,
- 10:56so it was nine nights in total. So it was a really good cruise
- 11:02because I didn't go with like a big group of friends.
- 11:04I was able to meet more new people in a way, because when
- 11:09you go with a group of friends, not just to a cruise to a club
- 11:13or anything, you tend to come together with your friends
- 11:17because your friends, you know them.
- 11:19So we're all going to party together, right on.
- 11:21A lot of events and trips and stuff might go to like a club or
- 11:26party cruise or whatever. I like to kind of wander around
- 11:30at certain points by myself and kind of leave my group.
- 11:33I'll always come back to the group eventually, but I like to,
- 11:37you know, do a loop, do a circle, whatever, and just see
- 11:41what's out there. And on this cruise, when we had
- 11:45the parties on the ship, it was nice to, in a way.
- 11:48I love my friends, and this is not shade, but it was nice to be
- 11:52able to be out there by myself and just kind of dance by myself
- 11:55a little bit and have myself actually be approachable by
- 12:01other people. Because when you're dancing with
- 12:04a group of friends, you're all, like, huddled in a circle.
- 12:07Sometimes that makes you maybe not like the most approachable
- 12:11looking by others, but because I was like dancing by myself.
- 12:15Actually, quite a lot of people come up to me to like, say
- 12:18either, oh, we watch our YouTube videos or we took your advice
- 12:23for the cruise, Or, you know, even if they didn't know I did
- 12:26all that stuff just like say hi and make small talk or whatever.
- 12:29So it's kind of nice in that way.
- 12:31It was kind of nice with this particular group of people
- 12:35because compared to some of the other cruises, especially that
- 12:39big party cruise I keep talking about in January, that's our
- 12:42party people and their objective is not necessarily to make small
- 12:47talk and meet people. Their objective is to like party
- 12:52and hook up for a good number of them.
- 12:54Whereas on this European cruise, on this Met cruise, you don't
- 12:59get as many of the party people at the hardcore party people.
- 13:03So it's actually easier to just have regular conversations with
- 13:06people. In a way.
- 13:08It's a little hard to explain, but the vibe is a little bit
- 13:10more chill. It's not so much about hardcore
- 13:12partying, even though they do have parties on the ship pretty
- 13:14much every single day. I only ate at the buffet and I'm
- 13:21not. I'm not ashamed or embarrassed.
- 13:25Buy it. I think there are.
- 13:27I always hear people that say, oh, don't eat at the don't just
- 13:31eat at the buffet, go eat some of the other stuff.
- 13:34I'm very much of the opinion that you have vacation, do
- 13:38whatever you want. I don't like being judged by
- 13:41other people to tell you what to do or not to do based purely on
- 13:46their subjective opinion. Like they say, oh you shouldn't
- 13:50just eat at the buffet or it's something like that.
- 13:54That's a prime example. I'll eat whatever the fuck.
- 13:56I want my vacation. Ask for your opinion.
- 14:00Get out of my face. So I feel like eating at the
- 14:06buffet, It's on this particular ship, It's really nice.
- 14:09You have regular tables that you can sit at and that's really
- 14:11nice. If you're doubting about the
- 14:12people, they also have these counter height kind of island
- 14:17style tables and you can sit probably eight people on each
- 14:22one of them and it's very nice to sit there.
- 14:24And it was actually more inviting for other people to be
- 14:26able to come up to you and maybe just spontaneously share a quick
- 14:31bite with you or spontaneity for them to just come up and talk to
- 14:35you. So I actually had that happen
- 14:36quite a few times. Imagine just long recanter,
- 14:40almost kitchen island style type of a table that's like a bar
- 14:45height and you can sit four people in each side.
- 14:48So I would grab a corner of that if there was available.
- 14:50And I've had a few times, several times where people just
- 14:53like kind of ate nearby and like I was able to just mix them off
- 14:57with them. Some people came up to me and
- 14:59like we were able to like eat together and have a
- 15:00conversation. So that was really, really nice.
- 15:03But I only ate at the buffet. It's fine.
- 15:07I want to it. I was.
- 15:09The other main dining option is the main dining hall, which is
- 15:13not a buffet. It's a regular sit down type
- 15:16experience where you get an appetizer at their waiters, They
- 15:20bring you food, 3 course meal, very typical sit down
- 15:23restaurant. Where's the buffet?
- 15:25There's no one serving you. You just grab a plate, grab your
- 15:27own food, sit wherever you want, go for seconds or thirds and
- 15:30whatever. I did eat a lot of pizza.
- 15:35There's a pizza place that's pseudo 24 hours and eat a lot of
- 15:41pizza. I was good for the first couple
- 15:44of nights. There were there's this one
- 15:45night where I ate 10 slices of pizza I went to.
- 15:50It was after a party and I had it in my head.
- 15:53I memorized when these places closed, when the when, when do
- 15:56the restaurants and food services close?
- 15:59At night after the party. That's the one thing I
- 16:01definitely remember from this from the get go.
- 16:03On the cruise, the buffet closes at 4.
- 16:07The pizza plate closes at 5:00. So one night it's like a second
- 16:11or third night. I left the party at Threeish,
- 16:14went to the buffet. I had two plates of food, Not
- 16:18huge plates, but I had two plates of food.
- 16:20And then I went to the pizza place when the buffet was
- 16:23closed. When the pizza place and I ate
- 16:28910 slices of pizza, I thought it was 9.
- 16:30I counted again. It was 10 because I went up and
- 16:33I got two slices. I went up and again and I got
- 16:37two and I got up again and I got three and then I somehow or like
- 16:42they gave me 4 it, it end up being 10 slices.
- 16:45I had two plates of food at the buffet and then I ate 10 slices
- 16:51of pizza. They it was thin slice pizza.
- 16:54It wasn't like super big slice of pizza, but the pizza slices
- 16:56are quite good actually quite like the pizza on the world
- 17:00Caribbean cruises. It's very, very consistent.
- 17:02Every time I've been a world Caribbean cruise ship, they all,
- 17:05almost all of them have the pizza place and the pizza is
- 17:07very consistent. The food is usually very
- 17:09consistent. The one thing that's
- 17:11consistently bad is any sort of grilled chicken.
- 17:16So they always have like chicken breasts or grilled chicken or
- 17:19something like that. I never eat that.
- 17:21But this is always super, super dry.
- 17:24And chicken is something I usually don't order in any
- 17:28restaurant anyways because it's super dry.
- 17:30And when I cook chicken at home, it's out of the packaging.
- 17:34I didn't even marinate my chicken.
- 17:35I didn't even spice my chicken. I literally take plain raw
- 17:40chicken from the refrigerator, put it onto a tray, shove it in
- 17:45the toast oven. 30 minutes later, I just eat it.
- 17:49I didn't even put anything on it, honestly.
- 17:51But it's super, super juicy because it's freshly cooked.
- 17:54But I think when you cook in batches or in a lot of
- 17:56restaurants, especially on the cruise ship that we cook in
- 17:58batches in advance and they have to reheat it, When you reheat
- 18:02chicken, it dries out instantly. So it doesn't matter how much
- 18:06they've marinated it or do whatever other stuff in it.
- 18:08If it's some sort of grilled to boil chicken, it's just going to
- 18:11be dry. They did have chicken tenders,
- 18:15like fried chicken tenders. Every night when it's fried it's
- 18:18OK. It locks in the moisture, so the
- 18:20chicken tenders is pretty good. So that part was OK.
- 18:23So that part was fine. I am supposed to be off dairy
- 18:30not because I'm allergic, but I found out it triggers my
- 18:33breakouts and my acne on my face.
- 18:36And for the two months or so up to the cruise at home, I've been
- 18:41doing really well. Not eating dairy, getting vegan
- 18:46cheese and switching to vegan protein powder, that kind of
- 18:48stuff. And I was kind of curious, is it
- 18:53what kind of dairy sets off my acne?
- 18:56Is it just way because a way, which is one of the two types of
- 19:00protein in dairy, milk, cow milk.
- 19:04It's known to be a trigger for acne, but for me, I was
- 19:10thinking, well, what if it had types of dairy that didn't have
- 19:13to weigh in it? What if I had certain type of
- 19:16cheese for example, Would that trigger it?
- 19:19So it was kind of sort of an excuse for myself to have some
- 19:23dairy on the cruise ship. On a lot of the roll curb and
- 19:27cruise ships on the pool deck, they have soft serve ice cream
- 19:30which me and David Lamb. When we're on a party cruise
- 19:33together we'll get 10A day. But I'm not even kidding.
- 19:37We just keep it going back again.
- 19:39There are there are days where the first thing we ate when we
- 19:43woke up was we we would walk to the buffet, whatever.
- 19:46But on the way we cross the pool, we cross the soft serve
- 19:50machine. We would that would be the first
- 19:51thing we ate for before actual food was soft serve it.
- 19:56You're on vacation do for everyone.
- 19:57But on this cruise, I was thinking, OK, soft serve is made
- 20:02of cow milk. So I'm just not going to have
- 20:06that. But I did allow myself to have
- 20:10some of the desserts in the buffet.
- 20:13They have bread pudding a lot of the times, and I love bread
- 20:17pudding so much. I'm I'm sure there's some amount
- 20:20of cream or dairy or something in the bread pudding, but I was
- 20:24like the bread pudding, so delicious.
- 20:26I don't care. And it's got to have less dairy
- 20:30in it than just the cow's milk or whatever they put for the
- 20:36soft serve. So I did have a decent amount of
- 20:39the bread pudding. They had it available half the
- 20:42nights, at least half the days in the buffet They had bread
- 20:46pudding. And the thing the buffet is they
- 20:47cook so much food that it's a never ending.
- 20:52They never run out of food. They literally never run out of
- 20:54food at the buffet. So yeah, the diet took a little
- 20:58bit of a, it's a bit of a balance.
- 21:01So I did have some dessert. I did have a lot of pizza, I did
- 21:04have a lot of bread pudding, but I made sure to eat a lot of lean
- 21:08proteins and vegetables and things like that.
- 21:12Oh, they always have chocolate chip cookies and they always
- 21:15have oatmeal Raisin cookies, which were both very good.
- 21:19So I would take a little bowl when I've done my meal at the
- 21:23buffet. I would usually take a little
- 21:25bowl and I would either take some dessert with me to go, like
- 21:28the bread pudding, or the thing I end up doing a lot almost
- 21:31every day is taking some cookies.
- 21:34Not to eat right away, but just to have in the room.
- 21:36I take a bunch of like oatmeal Raisin cookies, half a dozen or
- 21:39something put in the a little soup bowl take with me when I
- 21:42leave the buffet just so if I was in the room later and I felt
- 21:46peckish I could just have like some cookies.
- 21:49So that worked out really well. I brought a entire bag, I think
- 21:54it was a £2.00 bag of vegan protein powder that I loved all
- 22:00the way from Elway over three flights in my carry on luggage
- 22:03all the way onto the ship. I only had checked so I didn't
- 22:07have any checked luggage. I had this and my regular carry
- 22:12on roller board suitcase. I was very very full that if
- 22:15someone managed to put in a 2 pound bag of vegan protein
- 22:19powder because I know I'm not gonna get enough protein just by
- 22:24eating. And sometimes when you're on the
- 22:25cruise on vacation especially you're partying itself some of
- 22:28the days your appetite just doesn't isn't quite there, at
- 22:33least for me. I know personally that when I'm
- 22:35doing things on a cruise, sometimes I don't have as much
- 22:38time to eat or I don't feel hungry as often as when I'm just
- 22:42at home do my regular routine. So I know having the protein
- 22:46powder for me is really valuable to keep my protein intake and
- 22:50especially be go to the gym on the ship as well.
- 22:53And I did go to the gym in quite a few days on the ship.
- 22:55So I was thinking, OK once I get to Rome I need to go directly to
- 22:59the cruise terminal. I don't have time to do any
- 23:04shopping. I signed up for the Atlanta
- 23:06shuttle that takes you from the airport to the cruise port.
- 23:09So and even if I did have time I it probably would have been
- 23:14difficult for me to with all my luggage that to carry to go find
- 23:20a place that had vegan protein powder.
- 23:23So I was thinking I would just pack my own.
- 23:25So I made space in my carry on luggage or the protein powder I
- 23:30thought TSA would have. I don't know it would just be
- 23:33difficult for TSA but all they did was take it out and they did
- 23:36the swipy thing to with the little pads to look for trace of
- 23:41explosives or whatever and it it was fine.
- 23:44So it was actually pretty easy to get up through TSA.
- 23:45Luckily yeah I met some cool people on the cruise I've came
- 23:50in touch with. I met a group of boys that lives
- 23:52in LA that was that was really cool to party with them and chat
- 23:55with them and there was a Dick deck and for those of you that
- 24:03are not familiar, the Dick deck, it's exactly what you think it
- 24:07is. There's a usually at the late
- 24:09late night, early morning hours. There is a not sanctioned
- 24:14unofficial, it's not put on by Atlantis, but usually there's
- 24:17some section of the ship on one of the upper deck site on the
- 24:22pool deck of Solarium or Patio, Summer, whatever that you can go
- 24:28into. And it's a little bit dark and
- 24:31things are happening there. And I think most of you
- 24:33listening can probably imagine what that is.
- 24:36And I always sometimes think how hard does the crew on the ship
- 24:44have to the lengths they have to go through to like avoid that
- 24:49area. But then they also have to
- 24:50eventually clean it up the morning after.
- 24:53I'm just going to like leave it at that.
- 24:55I always give the advice to cruisers that, but sometimes
- 24:58they ask what can I wear or they're more accurately asking
- 25:03how little clothes can I get away with wearing on the cruise
- 25:07ship. And when people go to the party,
- 25:09the night time parties and stuff, they are wearing a jock
- 25:13strap or sometimes just a napkin with a piece of string,
- 25:17something like that. And I tell them, as long as
- 25:21you're cock and balls are covered, you can you can show
- 25:25your ass crack. If you're just going from your
- 25:27room to the party and there's a party going on, that's OK Just
- 25:32like during the daytime, you're going to go to the pool.
- 25:34You just wear your Speedo to and from your room and the pool.
- 25:38That's fine. But don't be fully naked, you
- 25:42know, just walking around in the hallways when you're at the
- 25:44party, you know, that's fine. But the crew needs to work on
- 25:49the other parts of the ship, and they don't really appreciate
- 25:53walking by someone in the corridors who's got their Dick
- 25:58fully out. It's just a little bit of like a
- 26:00a courtesy thing. Do you really need to be fully
- 26:02naked walking down the hallway where all the cabins are?
- 26:08No, you don't. So yeah, that that's a piece of
- 26:12advice that I usually give. Let's Fast forward to Ibiza and
- 26:17got to Ibiza in like the early evening.
- 26:20It was supposed it was a little stormy.
- 26:21There's some storms are passing through, so we actually had to
- 26:24be off of the coast of Ibiza for a few hours was be there.
- 26:29We're supposed to have docked at 8:00 PM.
- 26:30Wouldn't he dock until 11/11/30 at night, which is fine.
- 26:35Something that be something. Spain doesn't really get going
- 26:37until later, late, really late in the night anyways, and they
- 26:41were selling shore excursion packages to go to this one
- 26:45particular club called Hi Ibiza. And on Sunday nights they host a
- 26:50night called Glitter Box, which is a it's not a gay night, but
- 26:54it's queer friendly. It's still a straight club, I
- 26:58don't think any gay clubs in Ibiza as far as I know, but I'm
- 27:01not the authority on Ibiza for sure.
- 27:04But Glitter Box is a gay friendly night.
- 27:08It's still a straight club on Sundays and because for Duck
- 27:11Sunday nights they had this shore excursion package that was
- 27:16transportation to and from glitter box and a ticket to get
- 27:20in and also one drink ticket, which is like really nice.
- 27:23So I went ahead and dip. That's really nice and easy.
- 27:25Once we got off the ship there were shuttles all ready to go.
- 27:28That was really nice. It was fine till I just take the
- 27:31shuttle, get there and get back. It's really well organized
- 27:34actually. And I never been to Ibiza
- 27:37before. It's not a place that's
- 27:39necessarily on my list of things to do or hi on my list of things
- 27:43to do. It was one of those things where
- 27:45if I have the opportunity and I it was easy to go, I would just
- 27:50do it and check it off my list. And I was talking to someone on
- 27:53the cruise ship that has been there and done that and kind of
- 27:56did all this stuff. And he pretty much said, yeah,
- 27:59for a lot of gays, it's you go there, you do it.
- 28:03Once you check the box, you're probably not gonna come back.
- 28:06And that is the exact experience that I have with Ibiza.
- 28:11I can now say I've been to Ibiza, I went to this club, I
- 28:14went to glitter box. It was cute.
- 28:16I don't need to go back. Not that I wouldn't recommend
- 28:19someone else go, but for me, that's just not the type of
- 28:24scene that I'm into. I'm, you know, to, at least not
- 28:28to the level where I'm going to make a deliberate effort to go
- 28:30back. But it was fun.
- 28:31It was cute. I'll be there for like 3-4
- 28:35hours. It was, it was fine.
- 28:37I think the thing that reminded me is I never go to straight
- 28:44clubs anymore. I go to gay events.
- 28:48It could be a straight quote, UN quote venue, but I won't go
- 28:51there if there's a gay night at this venue where there's a gay
- 28:54event, like a circuit party or something, yeah, I'll go, but
- 28:57it's a gay event. But this is again, not a gay
- 29:01night. It's a queer friendly night, but
- 29:05it's still mostly for straight. So me personally, I just find
- 29:11straight clubs so annoying. And yeah, on on a few different
- 29:19levels. This is not going to be a
- 29:20popular opinion honestly and but it's just not for me.
- 29:26I mean if you throw a bunch of straight people into a gay club,
- 29:31there's a bunch of them that won't like it either because
- 29:33they're quite different and the crowd is different.
- 29:36One time my brother, this is a few years ago pre Pandemic and
- 29:43he messaged me and said, Oh my, my friends.
- 29:49I've got a group of friends who are girls and they want to go to
- 29:52celebrities in Vancouver. Celebrities is a gay nightclub
- 29:55in Vancouver, but it's kind of sort of turn straight.
- 29:56A lot of straight people go to celebrities now.
- 29:59But he said, oh I've got a bunch of friends who are girls that
- 30:02want to go to a gay club. Should I go with them?
- 30:06And instantly I said no, do not go with them unless you want gay
- 30:11guys to hit on you. And my brother isn't homophobic.
- 30:15But I have roamed this earth long enough to know that most
- 30:23typical heterosexual straight guys do not want gay guys to hit
- 30:29on them or they don't know, not because they hate gay people.
- 30:33They just don't know how to deal with that situation.
- 30:39And it's yeah, So I just, he told them don't go.
- 30:43You're not gonna have fun girls. A lot of girls have fun in gay
- 30:47clubs and gay bars. That's great.
- 30:50But I wouldn't have straight girls direct their straight guy
- 30:54friends to a gay club if they have no idea what to expect.
- 30:59And that's just my recommendation.
- 31:00So I told him instantly, don't go with your friends.
- 31:03Let them go. They can have fun.
- 31:05There's nothing for you there. You're not going to enjoy it.
- 31:09And if you're not going to know how to handle other guys hitting
- 31:13on you, but if you go to a gay club and you're a guy, the
- 31:17chances are or or you're a girl, it doesn't matter.
- 31:20People are going to assume that there's a decent chance you are
- 31:23queer. So if you don't know how to
- 31:25handle that, and I don't think my brother does, and I did not
- 31:28have the time or the energy to train and teach, all I really
- 31:33could recommend is don't go to a gay club.
- 31:36You know, that's fine. He probably wouldn't have like
- 31:38the experience otherwise. You know, gay culture is a
- 31:41little different from straight culture in a lot of ways.
- 31:44And this is one of those things where, you know, I don't expect
- 31:47straight people any. I don't expect all straight
- 31:50people to be able to have a good time in a gay club.
- 31:53The reverse is true, too. You're not able to expect all
- 31:56career people to be able to enjoy or fully appreciate the
- 32:02atmosphere or the culture of a typical straight club.
- 32:06And for me, a straight club is just not it.
- 32:10I wouldn't say that I had a bad time in Ibiza.
- 32:13I there are other aspects of straight clubs that I don't
- 32:19like, but I was there with some friends that I've met on the
- 32:23cruise, so that was pretty cool. I just kind of dance and party
- 32:25with them the whole time. So it was overall a good time.
- 32:29But would I go back to Ibiza? No, that that's that's pretty
- 32:35much it. Yeah.
- 32:38So overall it was fun. I I think the thing I enjoyed
- 32:42the most was the spontaneous, the people that I've met on the
- 32:48cruise kind of sort of spontaneously.
- 32:49I usually don't meet that many new people on a cruise.
- 32:55It also depends, depends on a few things.
- 32:57It depends on if I'm with a group of friends that I go on a
- 33:01cruise with a group of friends. Yes or no?
- 33:04What kind of crowd is on this particular cruise?
- 33:08Again, the big January cruise, it's a kind of party cruise.
- 33:12There are people that are not hardcore partiers, but the vast
- 33:15majority of that particular cruise crowd is hardcore
- 33:18partiers and they're just partying.
- 33:21Whereas this cruise, a little more chill and little little
- 33:23more relaxed also got more of an international crowd.
- 33:27You know the the big cruise in January, it's based in the US
- 33:31it's probably like 9090 something percent people from
- 33:34the US whereas on this cruise they gave us the stats 70
- 33:39people, 70% of the people were from the US But because it's
- 33:43obviously a cruise that's out of Europe and within Europe in the
- 33:46Mediterranean, you know there were other people.
- 33:49I ran into a group of boys that were one of them was from they
- 33:54were from Ukraine. I think they lived in the
- 33:56Ukraine or they were Ukrainian. I don't know exactly where they
- 33:59live. Had a little bit of small talk
- 34:01with them. I was in my room and I was I was
- 34:04at the party. It was nighttime and I was just
- 34:07came back to my room to like freshen up or whatever and they
- 34:10just happened to knock on my door and like I I met them that
- 34:12way. Nothing happened.
- 34:14We just talked and yeah, met a group of boys that are from LA,
- 34:20which I should probably message them and say hi.
- 34:23And I met a couple boys that lived in London, so it was
- 34:26really nice. It was more of an international
- 34:29set of boys compared to the US cruises.
- 34:32So it was fun to like, meet people that lived in different
- 34:34places. So I think that was probably the
- 34:36part that I didn't quite expect. I do sometimes.
- 34:39I've gotten the feedback before where I could look standoffish,
- 34:44and it's true. Sometimes I do look standoffish
- 34:48because I've got a bit of RBF. Even though at parties and stuff
- 34:51I usually try to kind of slap on a bit of a spy.
- 34:53I'm usually having fun anyway, so I'm like a little bit smiley
- 34:55at parties now. But I think when I first started
- 34:58partying and stuff, I just have RBF.
- 35:01I think because I was like new to it out, I didn't know what's
- 35:04going on. So I just had like regular
- 35:08resting idle face of expression, which could be RBF for me.
- 35:12And I just started very closely with my group because I just
- 35:15kind of clinged on to them a little bit more because I didn't
- 35:17know what was going on. So that probably made me look
- 35:20pretty set offish. And I wasn't always as good at
- 35:25just having conversation with complete strangers in any sort
- 35:30of social setting out and about because I was just so
- 35:36introverted and I didn't really know how to like talk to people
- 35:41all the time in that type of like super social party type
- 35:44situation. I've gotten a lot better now.
- 35:47So it's not as much of a thing. But yeah, I have gone that note
- 35:52before, but I think on this one I did pretty well.
- 35:54It's something I'm still working on, to be able to not look so
- 35:59standoffish. You know, smile a little bit
- 36:01when you're at a party, don't always be in your group and make
- 36:06it look clicky. Be able to actually try to
- 36:10converse with people. When someone says hi or
- 36:12whatever, get asked them a question, like what's your name?
- 36:15Where are you from, What parties have you been going to?
- 36:18Do you get off the ship? Things like that.
- 36:20So I'm getting a little bit better at that.
- 36:24All right. Oh, I've been talking for a full
- 36:26half an hour now, which is great.
- 36:29Again, the video version of this podcast is on YouTube and also
- 36:34on Spotify, but I think you might have had enough of me
- 36:38talking about cruises for right now.
- 36:40And next week normal service hopefully will be resumed.
- 36:44This canker sore hopefully will clear itself up.
- 36:47I hope it's not anything bacterial related.
- 36:49I need to go and get some antibiotics, but yeah, we will
- 36:54see you again next week. Bye.
