- 0:09Clinton: Welcome in, welcome in.
- 0:11Welcome friends to the newest edition of Sea Hawkers What If, the most unique
- 0:16Seahawks preview show in the multiverse.
- 0:18I'm your host Clinton Bonner.
- 0:19I am joined by the one, the only, the great Brandan Schulze.
- 0:22And of course it would not be, it could not be, we could not traverse
- 0:26the Seahawks multiverse without the protector of our multiverse, that is Mr.
- 0:30Phil Lydick down screen there on YouTube for you.
- 0:33Boys, we are three and three, and yet, and yet, guys, I feel, I feel that this
- 0:40team's about to turn things around.
- 0:42I hope I'm right, Brandan.
- 0:43How are you feeling?
- 0:44I'm doing well.
- 0:45It, it does feel like, a good turnaround time, because going on
- 0:49the road on a short week against the Broncos, you have a very winnable game,
- 0:55and I feel like all the games that we've lost have been very winnable.
- 1:00Mm-hmm.
- 1:00And the…
- 1:01Yes, another undefeated team is coming to town, but I think we
- 1:04got something for them, Phil.
- 1:06Yeah, I didn't have a great feeling about the last game with how things
- 1:09had been going, and a short week.
- 1:12Even though we're the better team, had the better players, I just
- 1:15didn't feel like the odds of them getting it all corrected that quickly
- 1:18with the travel were super likely.
- 1:21So how it went, I wasn't terribly surprised.
- 1:24I was actually a little bit surprised how the defense played in the first half.
- 1:27I wasn't surprised that the offense hasn't got it under control yet.
- 1:31But I, I have a lot better, I have much more hope about
- 1:35this game with the extra time.
- 1:36Mike does fantastic with a little bit of extra time.
- 1:39Clinton: Yeah, it's gonna be a really…
- 1:40I, it's, I think it'll be close.
- 1:42This game is, Vegas has the Seahawks at minus two and a half.
- 1:46Yeah.
- 1:46And it's a home game, it's Sunday night football, and we
- 1:49know the Chiefs are undefeated.
- 1:50And of course, we're gonna talk some Kenneth Walker, but it's just a
- 1:53different types of Chiefs team, too.
- 1:56So I'm sure we'll get into all that, because listening to all these
- 1:59Chiefs, you know, folks, pundits talk all week long, it's funny.
- 2:03For the first time in a long time, they don't talk much about Mahomes,
- 2:07they don't talk much about Kelce.
- 2:08Yeah.
- 2:09They don't talk much about Chris- they don't talk much about Jones.
- 2:12But there's this whole slew of new Chiefs that they talk about a lot,
- 2:15and of course, Kenneth Walker kind of stealing the show right now.
- 2:18But I think that's, you know, that goes without saying, Brandan.
- 2:21Yeah.
- 2:22They have a…
- 2:24Look, we, we as fans, generally, we, we miss Kenneth Walker.
- 2:28And- Yes … part of it is how our run game has gone so far.
- 2:32And I think, you know, there, he was a special player when he was here.
- 2:37Mm-hmm.
- 2:37He was our Super Bowl MVP.
- 2:39He's now moved on, and, we ha- we have to watch our, one of
- 2:44our exes go up against us this week, which makes it a little extra spicy.
- 2:49Yeah.
- 2:49And that's what I did in the previous week.
- 2:51Yes, exactly.
- 2:51I watched a bunch of canine versus the Chargers.
- 2:55While our team is right at 500 at three and three, these two teams are not.
- 2:59They are at opposite ends of the spectrum.
- 3:01One is winless, one is lossless, and they went into the game that way,
- 3:06they came out of the game that way.
- 3:09The Chiefs defense just completely embarrassed, embarrassed the
- 3:15Charger offense throughout the game.
- 3:18We will start with the, just on my notes here, there wasn't a lot to
- 3:22put down so much on the Chiefs offense.
- 3:24It kind of went how you would've expected.
- 3:27By DVOA, they are sixth, their pass is 11th, their running
- 3:30game is the third by DVOA.
- 3:33The pass pro wasn't terribly remarkable against what we know to be
- 3:36a Chargers, unremarkable pass rush.
- 3:40It was okay, it was good enough.
- 3:41They don't, they're, they've lost most all their receivers, but I did notice Worthy,
- 3:45who's number one, and I'm not saying he's a true wide receiver one, he wears number
- 3:49one, seems to get open in zone plenty.
- 3:52Canine just looks absolutely awesome.
- 3:54That's probably the- What's gonna stand out to people watching?
- 3:59Mahomes did throw a really terrible pick in the end zone, but otherwise
- 4:02he looks very good right now.
- 4:04On the defensive side by DVOA, they are ranked 10th overall.
- 4:08Against the pass, they're ninth, against the rush, they are 21st.
- 4:12They were pretty impressive with their tackling and their pursuit.
- 4:16They bat down a lot of passes and we know Sam sometimes have s- trouble
- 4:20with that, so hope he comes in prepared.
- 4:22Hope Jake Peetz and all gets him prepped for that.
- 4:25I'd say they made the Chargers look bad, but that implies the
- 4:31Chargers could ever look good, so I'm not so sure from this game.
- 4:35Their punter is awesome.
- 4:36He's the best in the league right now.
- 4:38The stats are on the other side if you're watching on YouTube.
- 4:41Anything jump out to you in this matchup, Clinton?
- 4:46Clinton: When I listened to Chiefs fans this week about this game, there
- 4:49was lots of like, "Oh my gosh, I can't believe we only won by X, 16 points."
- 4:53Yeah.
- 4:53But they also, you know, Mahomes throws a pick in the end zone, and they had- Yeah
- 4:56… a turnover on downs at, like, the one.
- 4:58So-
- 4:59Yeah,
- 4:59Clinton: that's right … it just was never in, never in
- 5:01contest, and they did what they…
- 5:03They're, they killed a very, very bad Chargers team.
- 5:05So that's really it.
- 5:07There wasn't much there to glean from, like, oh, how could we pick apart the
- 5:10Chiefs based on what the Chargers did?
- 5:11No.
- 5:12No.
- 5:13The, do the oppo- just do other things than what the Chargers are doing,
- 5:16'cause that was never, ever there.
- 5:18So, less about what we could glean from it versus, like, this
- 5:21actually could've been a 40-burger.
- 5:23Yeah, you'd probably get a little bit more out of watching the Chiefs
- 5:26and Raiders a couple weeks back- Yeah.
- 5:28Sure … just because, you know, the Raiders were actually able to do
- 5:32something against the Chiefs defense, and the, yeah, the Chargers can't
- 5:38do anything as an offense in general.
- 5:40Clinton: Mm-hmm.
- 5:41That was it.
- 5:41Well, gentle- you ready for the theme, gentlemen?
- 5:43'Cause that's pretty much all there is to talk about the
- 5:45Clinton: Chiefs.
- 5:45We need, we need the theme.
- 5:46We need the theme, Mr.
- 5:46Phil.
- 5:46Bring it to us.
- 5:47We need the theme.
- 5:48A lot of fans almost tempted me to go away from this, but how can
- 5:52you avoid, how can you avoid…
- 5:53That little cute canine is coming- Mm … back up to Lumen Field.
- 5:58I hope you can watch it and check out the picture.
- 6:01Ernest Jones has a, has a cute little puppy.
- 6:03And so as we think about the wonderful, awesome canine and what
- 6:07he was for us, and he's playing okay this year for the Chiefs as well.
- 6:11Yeah.
- 6:11But he's coming back, but what if canine's bark
- 6:15doesn't bite us back in Lumen?
- 6:18Which means half the questions have to do with barking, half the
- 6:21questions have to do with biting.
- 6:23Let's see, this is the seventh game for the Hawks, which means Brandan
- 6:27gets to decide where we go first.
- 6:30Here are the categories, and who knows what's behind them, but we
- 6:34will find out during the show.
- 6:35Brandan can choose bark at the moon, all bark, barking mad, love bites,
- 6:43bite marks, and bites the dust.
- 6:46Brandan.
- 6:48Phil, if you put an Ozzy Osbourne tune in this list, I'm going there first.
- 6:53We're going bark at the moon.
- 6:54Bark at the moon is where we will go.
- 6:57So Brandan, we have a couple luminaries in this, speaking of the moon.
- 7:02What if it's JSN or canine?
- 7:05Which luminary will shine like the brightest celestial body this
- 7:10Sunday night, and why, Brandan?
- 7:12Oh, man, I gotta go, I gotta go with my guy JSN because well, I'll leave it…
- 7:21I'll, I'll, I'll leave the other part to Clinton, 'cause I…
- 7:23I'll, I'll say why, I don't think it'll be K9, but, maybe
- 7:27that's where Clinton will go.
- 7:28But JSN against this secondary, they have L'Jarius Sneed, they
- 7:33have Mansoor Delane, and, Delane is probably the, the rookie
- 7:38that they're most excited about.
- 7:41And I do wonder, though, JSN going up against a rookie, if
- 7:45that's where they decide to go.
- 7:46Now, they could decide, and look at last week against the Broncos.
- 7:49The Broncos, they, they definitely put extra attention toward JSN's way.
- 7:54I would expect the Chiefs to do that too.
- 7:56Spags does it all the time, right?
- 7:58Spags does it all the time.
- 7:58But they also like to blitz, and they like to play man.
- 8:01Hmm.
- 8:02And I, I have to think that when those times and, and those opportunities arise,
- 8:08if they're, if they're blitzing, if they're playing man, I, I think the guy
- 8:12that Sam's gonna be looking for is JSN.
- 8:14It's gonna be at home.
- 8:15And I, I think it will provide Sam extra opportunities to feed JSN, and,
- 8:23When, when those opportunities arise, we, we've seen him take
- 8:26advantage of it, and it might be another 15-catch day for Jackson Smith-Njigba.
- 8:32Clinton, we got the two far and away leaders for Offensive Player of the Year
- 8:36going up against one another at night.
- 8:38Ooh.
- 8:39Who will shine most brightly?
- 8:41Why won't the other one shine, Clinton?
- 8:43Clinton: Yeah.
- 8:44All right.
- 8:44Well, I love this, and the…
- 8:46There's some poetry here, right?
- 8:47The Dog Star, also known as Sirius in the, in the evening sky, right?
- 8:52The brightest star for, and a really important star in the history of humanity.
- 8:55Mm-hmm.
- 8:55Cool, cool stuff there.
- 8:56Just go Google, Google Sirius and go check out, like, why it matters.
- 9:00But it, but I don't think it'll be K9, and it can be.
- 9:04This is, I could be wrong.
- 9:05K9, look, we haven't given up a 100-yard rusher in a long, long time now.
- 9:09What, 30-some odd games, right?
- 9:11Something like that.
- 9:1135, I think.
- 9:1235, yeah.
- 9:13Or so.
- 9:14K9 could break that, and I would not be shocked, and nor will it
- 9:17make me incredibly sad if he runs for 111 yards if we win the game,
- 9:21because all these things can happen.
- 9:23The, the Chiefs are extremely overloaded on K9 right now, and that's fine.
- 9:29It's almost very similar to how last year we were so JSN-dependent, and we still
- 9:33are to a certain extent, but last year we were stacking Ws and right now we're not.
- 9:38Yeah.
- 9:38But they're really reliant on, on K9 and, and it's not like, if you watch
- 9:44their games, it's not like, "Oh my gosh, what amazing blocking," and K9 got to
- 9:49the second level without being touched.
- 9:50It's like, nope, it's K9 getting 25-plus touches a game, and he's doing special
- 9:55things over and over and over again, which he did with us down the stretch last year.
- 9:59We, we know he can do these things.
- 10:01All that being said- they are missing their two left, they're missing their
- 10:05left tackle for sure with Simmons.
- 10:06I think it's, I forget the dude's name who's backing him up.
- 10:09I think it's, let's see.
- 10:11I have it here.
- 10:12That's okay.
- 10:12Well, I'll pull it in a second.
- 10:13That, that doesn't matter too much.
- 10:14But they're missing their left-
- 10:15Julio Benson
- 10:16… Clinton: yeah, Benson.
- 10:16They're missing their left tackle, they're mi- and they're very
- 10:18likely missing their right tackle.
- 10:19So missing Simmons, and they're missing their right tackle.
- 10:22They have a guard kicking out to right tackle who filled in admirably
- 10:26last week, but the right tackle's concussed, has not practiced so far.
- 10:30We'll see if he can make his way back.
- 10:32Okay.
- 10:32The interior of that line's damn good.
- 10:34We know about Creed.
- 10:34Awesome.
- 10:35They're
- 10:35Clinton: amazing.
- 10:36Yeah.
- 10:36They really are.
- 10:36Like center, guard, guard-
- 10:38Yeah
- 10:38… Clinton: this is a good freaking, we have Creed Humphrey,
- 10:40where he's, he's really good.
- 10:41So we know about these things already.
- 10:43All that being said, guys, we can bottle up K9.
- 10:47The biggest thing about K9's game, as we know, is him getting explosives.
- 10:52We're very good at limiting explosives through the air, on
- 10:55the ground, et cetera, et cetera.
- 10:57So we just gotta do our job.
- 10:58We gotta do the thing that we do really, really well, and
- 11:01we can depress K9's numbers.
- 11:05Doesn't mean it doesn't go for 90 and a touchdown or two.
- 11:08On the other side of the, the coin, very quickly, I like the idea
- 11:12of, look, we move JSN around a lot.
- 11:14It's not like JSN just sits outside or just sits inside.
- 11:17He moves around a lot.
- 11:19I like their, corners.
- 11:21I like their cover corners.
- 11:22I think Sneed is okay as a nickel who's playing slot, so I would really
- 11:28love for, for Fleury and team to just scheme up as much one-on-one
- 11:33possibilities for JSN to take advantage of Sneed, and we spam JSN as we need
- 11:38to, as we start to ramp back up, which should be a better run, a run game, and
- 11:43hopefully including Anthony Bradford.
- 11:45So pausing there, Sneed, Sneed versus JSN, I like it.
- 11:49Our run D's just gotta do, do the, the work we know they can do.
- 11:53Yeah, when I was on the Chief's podcast earlier this week, they
- 11:56were, terrified of JSN lining up in the slot going up against Sneed.
- 12:02Clinton: Okay, good.
- 12:03Well, I like the sound of that.
- 12:05Me too.
- 12:05I'm fascinated, fascinated with our awesome interior D line
- 12:09versus their amazing interior O line, what that's gonna mean.
- 12:13Mm-hmm.
- 12:13'Cause K9 seems to be able to run there any time they choose to let him run there
- 12:16right now, so I think Leo and Byron will have some words about that in this game.
- 12:21Clinton, you get to go next.
- 12:23Five choices on the board.
- 12:24Where shall we go?
- 12:25We barking, are we biting?
- 12:26Clinton: Oh, we're gonna bite, and if you're gonna put a Queen song
- 12:29on screen, I'm gonna take the Queen song Another One Bites the Dust.
- 12:33Let's do it.
- 12:34Okay, the last couple seasons, Darnold actually had
- 12:38stat advantages over Mahomes.
- 12:40Not this year.
- 12:41That's kinda bit the dust so far.
- 12:43We'd like to see that come back around.
- 12:45I'm gonna have a little kind of game-ish moment here.
- 12:48I wrote down a bunch of categories.
- 12:50We're not saying Sam has to be better than Pat overall in this
- 12:53game, but we're looking for deltas that will be okay with us.
- 12:58And so I'll mention a few of, I'll, I'll go through a few of these, Clinton, and
- 13:01you kinda tell me how close Sam needs to be to Pat on these particular stats.
- 13:08Kinda quick answer them.
- 13:09If you need to stop and explain, that's okay.
- 13:12Mm.
- 13:12But mostly I've got seven, so, keep that in mind on quick answers.
- 13:16Clinton: Cool.
- 13:16Pressures, how close does Sam need to be on pressures
- 13:20that he receives versus Pat?
- 13:22Clinton: Oh, God, gotta be pr- gotta be, gotta be closer.
- 13:25Okay.
- 13:25Clinton: Gotta be closer.
- 13:26I mean, last, last week was a disaster versus Denver.
- 13:29Yeah, so pretty close.
- 13:30How about sacks?
- 13:31Do we need a delta there?
- 13:34Clinton: Within two.
- 13:35Within two.
- 13:36Turnovers?
- 13:38Clinton: Within one.
- 13:40Third down average distance?
- 13:44Clinton: Yeah, we've been, we've been kind of not great here, and the Chiefs
- 13:48are really good at first and second down.
- 13:49Yeah, that's right.
- 13:50Really, really good.
- 13:51Like, they are making it very easy to convert on third downs, and they are.
- 13:55Oh man, we, we need to get better there.
- 13:58Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba.
- 13:58Like, we have to be within, within a yard, I'd say- Yeah, I
- 14:02agree … to, to keep it about there.
- 14:04By, by the way, that's like within a yard, I expect the Chiefs to still
- 14:07be better at it because they've been- Yeah … they've shown us they're really
- 14:10good on first and second down this year.
- 14:12If their average is five, we'd like it to be six, right?
- 14:15Clinton: Yeah.
- 14:15I could, I could s- I could live with that, and I think Sam could too.
- 14:19Brent, oh, no, keep going.
- 14:20I mean, completions, how many, more incompletions, are
- 14:24we fine with Sam having than Pat?
- 14:26Clinton: Zero.
- 14:27I want that to be in our favor.
- 14:29Okay.
- 14:30Yards per attempt?
- 14:32Clinton: Oh, I think that's, you know, under a half yard also.
- 14:35Like-
- 14:35Okay
- 14:35Clinton: the Chief's average depth and target stuff, it's not, they're not
- 14:39stretching the field that much either, and our wide receiver corps is better.
- 14:44So in fact, I'd like us to be a half yard or a yard over Mahomes.
- 14:49And then rating, passer rating.
- 14:51The last two years Sam had a eight-point better, passer rating than Mahomes.
- 14:57That's not even close this year.
- 14:59How close do they need to be in this matchup, Clinton?
- 15:02Clinton: Yeah.
- 15:02I, I'll go with just fairly close, and it's amazing what a great
- 15:06running team running back can do- Yeah … to alleviate, 'cause Mahomes
- 15:09was going, like, down year, the last three- That's right … years.
- 15:12It was like 90s, 90s, like 80s, and Sam with the Vikings and last
- 15:16year with us, pretty steady eddy.
- 15:18Yeah.
- 15:18Let's just recalibrate that, and hopefully our run game, alleviates
- 15:22some of the, the freaking pressure that's been on Sam, and the bad mistakes.
- 15:26So very, very close.
- 15:27How about that?
- 15:27Seems like one of the biggest differences K9 has made is how
- 15:31he's affected his quarterback's passer rating- Yeah … just
- 15:33by how defenses approach them.
- 15:35Okay, Brandan, same questions.
- 15:37Pressures, what should, what do you hope for a delta there?
- 15:40Pressures, no delta.
- 15:43No delta.
- 15:44Sacks.
- 15:45Sacks.
- 15:46Sacks, we can be within two.
- 15:48Yeah.
- 15:49So the, and the way I'll kind of frame this, we can win if the
- 15:52delta isn't more than this, so two.
- 15:53Yeah.
- 15:54Okay, turn- turnovers.
- 15:56Turnovers, we have to be plus.
- 16:00Oh.
- 16:00Ooh.
- 16:00So we can't even be even.
- 16:02You think we have to win the turnover margin?
- 16:04We do.
- 16:04Oh, wow, okay.
- 16:06Third down average distance.
- 16:09Third down, what, less than
- 16:15I, third down average distance.
- 16:17Oh, the, the delta between the two?
- 16:18Yeah.
- 16:19Yeah.
- 16:19Yeah, we have to be, within a yard, under.
- 16:23Okay.
- 16:23Same as, same as Clinton.
- 16:24Incompletions.
- 16:26Clinton said we need to win this one.
- 16:27I don't care.
- 16:31Clinton: The Tommy Lee Jones, I love it.
- 16:33I
- 16:33think I know why Clinton cares, 'cause he kind of wants
- 16:35our attempts to be down and the, just the bad throws to be down.
- 16:39But I, I could see the point of saying, "If we're throwing it away
- 16:42and not taking sack and getting picks, then I'll take those incompletions.
- 16:45I'll buy 1,000 of them."
- 16:46Yeah.
- 16:46Yeah.
- 16:46That's true.
- 16:47That's, that's why-
- 16:48Yards per attempt.
- 16:49Yards per attempt, we need to be at least two yards per attempt better
- 16:55Better?
- 16:56Yep.
- 16:56Wow.
- 16:56Okay.
- 16:57And rating.
- 16:58How about passer rating between the two?
- 17:00We need to be 15 points better on passer rating-
- 17:04Than, than Pat?
- 17:04He needs
- 17:04Clinton: a Big Sam game.
- 17:05He needs a clean Sam game
- 17:07is what I'm hearing.
- 17:07Well, because interceptions go into passer rating.
- 17:09Yeah.
- 17:09And if, you know, Mahomes plays clean, that means that, Sam needs to
- 17:15play as clean or better, and I, I think I got into that with the turnover numbers.
- 17:20And he's done that.
- 17:21So Brandan, I, I wanna ask about this a little bit, 'cause I was kind of thinking
- 17:25that we could win if Mahomes outplays Sam a little bit overall on stats.
- 17:31But Brandan's thinking by stats, and obviously that factors in how
- 17:34the defense handles the two of them.
- 17:36You're saying in the end Sam's stats kind of need to look
- 17:39better than Pat's for us to win?
- 17:41I think so, because I think that one, if, if Pat's, passing stats are looking
- 17:47good, it, it tells me that, that we're doing a lot of focusing on canine- Mm-hmm
- 17:53and that, that's going to make Pat go toward the air more, and, and
- 18:01that's where we need to be better.
- 18:03And now you scared me a little bit, 'cause I just thought of something.
- 18:06We kind of do need Sam's stats to turn out maybe better than Pat's, 'cause
- 18:09it's very likely their run game is gonna look better or more difference-making
- 18:14than ours in this matchup.
- 18:16So I, I was kind of hoping, "Oh yeah, we can get away with Sam being a little
- 18:19lesser than Pat overall," but maybe not.
- 18:22Yeah.
- 18:22Maybe not.
- 18:23Clinton, do you wanna rethink any of your answers after Brandan just terrified me?
- 18:26Clinton: No, I, I'm, I'm good with my answers.
- 18:28I think, Brandan's making sense, which is, you know, no
- 18:31shock to anybody listening.
- 18:32He makes sense all the time.
- 18:34It's, it's just that, like, Pat's…
- 18:37Like, if Pat is outperforming Sam with, with numbers and it's like,
- 18:42okay, it's Xavier Worthy, and it's, you know, Cyrus Allen, and, and f-
- 18:46it's not, you know, Jalen Royals.
- 18:49All right, well then, and then Travis Kelce, the, the ghost of
- 18:51Trav- the ghost of Travis Kelce.
- 18:53If Pat's, like, having, like, a vintage Pat game, I think we're, I think
- 18:57we're SOL, boys, because the rest of their game's gonna be there anyway.
- 19:00So I understand what he's saying there.
- 19:02But I still think with our defense we can kind of be like right around what they're
- 19:06doing and get out of, you know, get out of Dodge with a, and looming with a victory.
- 19:10Yeah, and then as we've had in other games, we don't really have a huge
- 19:14special teams advantage here either.
- 19:16So maybe- Mm-hmm … Brandan is right.
- 19:17This is gonna be tough.
- 19:18This is gonna be tough.
- 19:19We need Sam to have a clean- No, we have a little
- 19:20bit of a special teams advantage.
- 19:22We have a little bit?
- 19:22Yeah, maybe a little bit.
- 19:23I think their- I think their return, their kick return game isn't, is not great.
- 19:28Okay.
- 19:28But
- 19:28ours hasn't been all that great either, so.
- 19:31Yeah, it's, it's, it's a mixed bag there.
- 19:33So I, I see your point, Brandan.
- 19:35I'm a little more scared after that, but it's making a lot of sense.
- 19:39Well, Brandan gets to go next.
- 19:41We have four choices: Bark at the Moon, All Bark, Love Bites and Bite Marks.
- 19:46Well, I took bark at the moon first and I wasn't sure if I was just seeing it
- 19:49wrong as, as crossing out barking mad, so-
- 19:51Oh, you're
- 19:52right … I'll, I'll take barking mad- There you go … since,
- 19:54i- if that's still available.
- 19:56That's sufficient.
- 19:57Thank you for fixing that for me.
- 19:58I don't even know what I was doing there.
- 20:00But, if you watch YouTube, you get to see all the mistakes Phil makes, so.
- 20:04We are now officially going to barking mad even though I crossed it off early
- 20:08'cause, something's wrong with me.
- 20:11Brandan, what if the guys in the trenches take this losing streak personally?
- 20:18Where do you see advantages for us along either side of, the trench game here?
- 20:24Ooh, if, I…
- 20:26Man, I would love for our guys, especially on the offensive line, to
- 20:31take these last couple weeks personally because they're going up against guys
- 20:36like George Karlaftis and Chris Jones.
- 20:39Mm-hmm.
- 20:39And I, I, I worry especially about guys like Abe Lucas.
- 20:45If Anthony Bradford's back this week and you're saying go up against Chris Jones,
- 20:50all, all pro Chris Jones in your first…
- 20:53And, and here we are going like, "Oh man, I can't wait till we get
- 20:56Anthony Bradford back," and then this is the matchup that he gets.
- 20:59And, that's, that's a very difficult matchup to pull, but it's also a difficult
- 21:03matchup to pull for your backups.
- 21:05So- Yeah … that's, that's going to be, h- i- if they can come into this
- 21:10week, take it personally, and, y- make it so guys like Karlaftis and Jones are,
- 21:18are not getting to Sam Darnold and they're keeping him well protected- Man, I, I, I
- 21:24hope, I hope they take it personally, Phil
- 21:26Hmm.
- 21:26Jones kind of disappears.
- 21:28We talked about Clinton having an intermittent mic a little bit.
- 21:30Jones kind of has- Mm … an intermittent game.
- 21:32Like, he's kind of picking his moments.
- 21:34Maybe 'cause he's old now, so he's gotta just save the engine, here and there.
- 21:38Sure.
- 21:39But, that's a good call-out.
- 21:40I would love it to see our O line, you know, push their will against
- 21:46this, Chiefs up and down defensive, up and down defensive line.
- 21:51Clinton, how about you?
- 21:53Do you see any advantages for us in the trenches in this
- 21:55game, and where might they be?
- 21:57Clinton: Yeah.
- 21:57Well, I- yes, I, I, there should be.
- 22:00There needs to be.
- 22:02This is, where Brandan's like, "Hey, we need Sam to kind of at least
- 22:05go even Steven with Pat to win."
- 22:07I'm gonna give one in a second too, and I just wanna call out, like, as
- 22:10well, like, you know, I think Carle- Karlaftis is a- he's turned into a,
- 22:14just a good defensive edge, just at end.
- 22:17But the dude behind him too, the rookie R.
- 22:19Mason Thomas, he's got- Oh,
- 22:20yeah.
- 22:20Clinton: Yeah … he's got speed off the edge.
- 22:22So, they got a pretty good rookie class, guys.
- 22:25They got dudes out there that are making contributions left and
- 22:27right, up and down the field, so just, just watch out for, for him.
- 22:31Like, he's- And
- 22:31we do not, so yeah.
- 22:33Clinton: Yeah, right.
- 22:33Thanks for
- 22:33reminding me.
- 22:34Clinton: He's, I always like to tell people w- the number, 'cause you
- 22:36might not know him- Yeah … just yet.
- 22:37He's number 51 out there, and the ch- the challenges we've had, especially
- 22:42on the right, the right end, and the right side of our line this year,
- 22:45just him and Karlaftis and, and R- R.
- 22:47Mason Thomas, like, hey We, I hope Fleury is like, "We need to do more,
- 22:53just more protection, more chipping, and give Sam a little bit more time,"
- 22:58because it cannot be a repeat of that Broncos game, 'cause we'll get a
- 23:01similar result, maybe a worse result.
- 23:03So you can't have it after a mini bye.
- 23:05Other side of the coin, look, our edges are, are…
- 23:09People, Seahawks fans pound the table all the time, "We need the Maxx
- 23:11Crosby and we need the Myles Garrett.
- 23:13You need the 17 sack guy."
- 23:15And I'm usually like, "Well, look, our defense is really good without that."
- 23:19You know, we could have compilers out there.
- 23:21We could have just dudes who play really good edge, and they do, right?
- 23:25And we got D Law, and we got Hall, and we got Chenna, et cetera, et cetera.
- 23:30I'm not gonna really mention Fowler right now, who's not,
- 23:32not giving all that much.
- 23:34We need the edges to win.
- 23:36They have, they have their third- and fourth-string-
- 23:39Yeah
- 23:39… Clinton: tackles in this game most likely.
- 23:41Very, very mo- most likely.
- 23:43So our studs or our good players on the edge, let's say those good
- 23:48players, D Law, Hall, they need to become great players in this game.
- 23:52They have
- 23:52to.
- 23:53Clinton: Have to.
- 23:53They
- 23:53have to.
- 23:54Clinton: So, like, that is where there, there's a, an advantage on paper.
- 23:58And, and all year long I've watched guys like Que Robinson beat our edge
- 24:04guys, beat our tackles, and we need Derick Hall and D Law and Chenna
- 24:09to go beat dudes that are backups.
- 24:11Have to, otherwise again, it's gonna be a long day.
- 24:14Their interior line, our interior line is so good with, you know,
- 24:17Leo and, and Reed, and Byron.
- 24:19So, so good.
- 24:21They can go, I think, blow for blow with us up the middle, so
- 24:24we've gotta win on the edge, guys.
- 24:26How about some twists, you know?
- 24:28Clinton: Yeah.
- 24:28Leo swapping in with, with Chenna, or y- just, just-
- 24:32Clinton: Well, yeah, we'll, we'll do all those things.
- 24:34We, you, we'll see, we'll see all the things where Leo's out the five,
- 24:36maybe even the seven technique.
- 24:38We'll see the stuff where they do the overloads, right?
- 24:40Yep.
- 24:40I love those.
- 24:40So we will see that from Mike for sure.
- 24:43It's just gonna be…
- 24:44It's, it's kinda cool from a, 'cause the average NFL fan like
- 24:48myself, I'll put that squarely in that category, you could see it.
- 24:51You go out like, "Oh cool, they're overloaded over here,"
- 24:53and you can kinda watch for it.
- 24:54So it's like you could just notice it in real time, be like,
- 24:57"Well, how'd we do on that snap?
- 24:58Did it work?
- 24:58Did we win?
- 24:59Was the stunt successful?
- 25:00What did we try there?"
- 25:02So I expect Mike to kind of, you know, it's not like pull out
- 25:05the tricks, but, but play the hits.
- 25:08I don't see a formula where we win if our edges don't
- 25:11beat their- backup tackles.
- 25:14That'd just be absolutely frustrating and embarrassing.
- 25:17Yeah.
- 25:17Clinton: I mean, un- unless our defensive tackles win- Against the
- 25:20edge guys … where they have strength.
- 25:21Yeah.
- 25:22Where, yeah, where they have strength.
- 25:22That's, that's a very possible outcome.
- 25:24Yeah.
- 25:24But I really would like our edge group to just be like, "You know what?
- 25:27This week we got you for a change."
- 25:30I do think how canines had so much success running up the middle this
- 25:33year, I think that stops this week.
- 25:35I- no matter how good those guys are in the middle, I really don't think
- 25:39Byron and Leo and those, and I, I just don't think those guys are gonna lose
- 25:44in the run game to this, to this group.
- 25:46Yeah.
- 25:46Do you agree with that, Brandan?
- 25:48I, I want to believe that.
- 25:50Okay.
- 25:52Clinton: I love it.
- 25:53It'd
- 25:53be like Ernest the Fox mobile.
- 25:54I think Ernest is gonna have them set up, they're gonna dominate, and he's
- 25:56just gonna pick up that little puppy canine and say, "Nice try, buddy.
- 26:00It's, this is, this is Lumen.
- 26:02You don't get to do that here."
- 26:03That's what I'm really-
- 26:03I, I feel like we've had some instances though where teams have been able
- 26:07to run it up the middle, but I, I, probably not against, you know, our,
- 26:11our starters, but, you know- Oh … like when Riley Mills is out there-
- 26:14Sure … I know he's been susceptible.
- 26:16Mm-hmm.
- 26:16Yeah, I- I think that if they start having success, they're gonna figure
- 26:23out how to shut it down real quick.
- 26:24Yeah, I hope so.
- 26:26Clinton, you got three choices.
- 26:27They're actually right.
- 26:27My little green lines are correct now- Yes … I think.
- 26:31All bark, little bites, bite marks.
- 26:33We haven't done these.
- 26:34Clinton: Yeah, well, in honor of Puka Nacua, let's go bite marks.
- 26:39I should have, I should have put Puka on there for this one.
- 26:42Bite marks, we'll cross it off now so I get it right.
- 26:44Here we go.
- 26:46What if you each give us three Chiefs who might be able to
- 26:50nibble on us if we aren't careful?
- 26:53Now, this does not include K9 or Mahomes.
- 26:56I didn't know how the categories would go- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm … but I knew we
- 26:58were going to be talking about them.
- 27:00Those are mega stars.
- 27:01We're talking about other guys, three guys that you're a little concerned
- 27:05about in this matchup, Clinton.
- 27:06Clinton: Okay, I'll try and be quick here.
- 27:08I mentioned his name earlier.
- 27:10Chiefs fans are pounding the table for more of this guy, and that's
- 27:13wide receiver Cyrus Allen, number 13.
- 27:16Okay.
- 27:16Clinton: A good-looking wide receiver, had a great pre-season and then
- 27:20just hasn't done too, too much yet.
- 27:22However, he's the kind of dude that, like, when he gets his opportu- kind of
- 27:25like our Tory Horton right now, guys.
- 27:27It's like, oh, when he gets an opportunity and there's a, a
- 27:29modicum of time, they're hooking up.
- 27:32So Cyrus Allen, to me, can really help what is a depleted
- 27:37wide receiver corps so far.
- 27:38I'm gonna flip it over.
- 27:40So as a backup running back, I'm actually gonna stay on the offensive side, I
- 27:44think Emmett Johnson's a heck of a back.
- 27:45I liked him coming out of Nebraska.
- 27:47Mm.
- 27:48And while K9 is getting the vast majority and Emmett Johnson might
- 27:53only get five to seven carries, he, he kind of makes good on them.
- 27:58So it's just a matter of we're gonna have to get some negative
- 28:01plays in this game, or like-
- 28:02Can we grab him and put a throwback blue jersey on him
- 28:05on his way into the stadium?
- 28:06Clinton: We, we can try.
- 28:07Okay.
- 28:08We can try our, we can try our best.
- 28:09That, that's one more there.
- 28:11And let's see on the other side.
- 28:13I mean, it's kind of hard to say Mansoor Delane is, is, is
- 28:16under the radar at this point.
- 28:18Yeah.
- 28:18However, lots of folks may not know him or his game just yet as, as a
- 28:22rookie out there, first rounder.
- 28:24He's, he's really quite good, too.
- 28:26Can he do the thing where he's shutting down half, half the
- 28:28side, his side of the field?
- 28:31And what does that do to us?
- 28:32Like, what do we have to do to counter that if they're successfully, you
- 28:36know, modifying JSN a little bit?
- 28:39Where else can we get some freaking production, consistent production?
- 28:43So there's three dudes.
- 28:44There's some on the, on the table here.
- 28:46In fact, I see one I should've talked about, but I think Brandan's
- 28:48got us, so I'll stop there.
- 28:49Go ahead, Brandan.
- 28:50Give us your three guys.
- 28:52All right.
- 28:52I'll start on the defense because if I didn't talk about Nick
- 28:56Bolton, this is the- There you go.
- 28:57There he is … this is a guy that I've, I've always liked Nick Bolton,
- 29:01and he was up for free agency a couple years back or maybe last year.
- 29:05Anyway, he, he is the guy over in the middle.
- 29:08He, he's kind of like…
- 29:09Okay, imagine if Fred Warner weren't dirty.
- 29:13Yeah.
- 29:14That's
- 29:15hard to do.
- 29:15And he, 'cause he's, he's like- It is
- 29:16he, he plays about as well as Fred, but, you know, without,
- 29:18like, the helmet-to-helmet, going in and, and knocking dudes,
- 29:22Silly type, Stepping
- 29:23on people, stuff like that.
- 29:24Yeah.
- 29:25Clinton: Yeah.
- 29:25Yeah.
- 29:25Being a dirt
- 29:25Clinton: bag.
- 29:25That's what- You know, general dirt bag.
- 29:27Yeah.
- 29:27Right, yeah.
- 29:28And, and so normally I feel like we're talking about AJ Barner, like,
- 29:33oh, why don't we get AJ Barner involved?
- 29:34Man, if you're…
- 29:35I feel like if, Nick Bolton is roving the middle and that's
- 29:39where you're looking to dump off to AJ Barner, it's gonna be…
- 29:43He's gonna be right there.
- 29:44He's good in the pass game.
- 29:45Bolton's good on the pass game, you
- 29:47think?
- 29:47I, I, I like Bolton in the pass game too.
- 29:49Yeah.
- 29:49I, he's just well-rounded.
- 29:51Clinton: He's a good…
- 29:51Yeah, he's good in the game game.
- 29:52Dude's a good player.
- 29:53Yeah.
- 29:54On the offensive side, we haven't talked about Travis Kelce, and,
- 29:59against this defense I The way that I, I think we're gonna be able to
- 30:04take away a lot of the receivers, which generally the way that we play
- 30:09defense, it will, will leave some of the underneath stuff open, and that's
- 30:13where I would expect to see Travis Kelce.
- 30:15So if, we, we've taken away a lot of their receivers and we're getting pretty
- 30:21good pressure against the offensive line, especially over the edges, and Mahomes
- 30:26is stepping up, I, I think that Kelce's gonna be the guy that he ends up spamming.
- 30:30And so if, if Kelce ends this game with eight or nine
- 30:33catches, that wouldn't shock me.
- 30:35Clinton: Hmm.
- 30:36And player number three, I, I guess I'll go…
- 30:41You, you mentioned him a little bit, Xavier Worthy.
- 30:43Clinton: Mm-hmm.
- 30:44He has found some success as kind of being that guy that, you know, quick stuff
- 30:50over the middle, yards after the catch.
- 30:52Worthy is fast and if, if we aren't careful, I, I think he has
- 30:59the ability to get into open space and, and get some extra yards.
- 31:02So if the Chiefs end up having a good day, it could because that Mahomes to
- 31:07Worthy connection, he's finding him in space where he's got some room to run.
- 31:11Good call-outs.
- 31:12Yeah, he finds those pockets and zones well, or it seems Mahomes
- 31:15sees when he's gonna enter them.
- 31:16They're, they're playing pretty well together- Yeah
- 31:18in spite of maybe his not being that famous.
- 31:22We have two choices left then, Brandan, all bark or love bites.
- 31:26Hmm.
- 31:27Let's go all bark.
- 31:28Clinton: Hmm.
- 31:29Gotta avoid that Def Leppard all you can.
- 31:31For as long as you can.
- 31:32Brandan, what if Coach Mike can prove it's not just talk?
- 31:36He's been talking a lot the last week or so.
- 31:38How do you believe the offense will look this week if Coach gets what he wants
- 31:43from them against this very good defense?
- 31:46Well, Zach Charbonnet looks like he's on his way back.
- 31:50Mm-hmm.
- 31:50And I think that having just a competent run game would,
- 31:55would be, very helpful.
- 31:57In fact, Nate Schutz, when I was on the, the Chiefs podcast, he
- 32:00put into the chat the, one of the underrated parts about, and
- 32:05maybe, maybe it's properly rated.
- 32:07I, I think it's underrated, it goes under the radar, that, with
- 32:11Charbonnet coming back, his effectiveness as, in the passing game on third
- 32:16down could be a huge help to- Hmm … Sam Darnold, against the Chiefs.
- 32:20So if they're going third down, if we're in third and six plus, and you gotta
- 32:25keep a back in there to help protect Sam against the Steve Spagnuolo blitzes,
- 32:32C- the, having Charbonnet back in the lineup and in those, in
- 32:37for just those moments would be huge.
- 32:40And so I think having that could go a long way to help us
- 32:43move the ball on third down.
- 32:44We've been just ridiculously bad on third down and, and, and we're gonna need to
- 32:50improve those numbers against the Chiefs.
- 32:52How about you, Clinton?
- 32:54Clinton: Yeah, great question.
- 32:55So, and I love the answer too, and that's such a cool wrinkle because- Yeah
- 32:58even if we, even if we only get…
- 33:01I expect Charbonnet to come back and be pretty good, because I'm an optimist and,
- 33:05you know, it's just, it, I, yeah, no, he looks like he's fully rehabbed now.
- 33:08We'll see.
- 33:09But is he
- 33:09gonna have, like, he's, I don't know if he's gonna have 20 carries.
- 33:12No, I-
- 33:12Clinton: I, I don't even know if he's gonna have
- 33:1312
- 33:14Clinton: I, I don't expect, yeah, I don't expect that, but I do expect
- 33:17him to get the start and try to give the crowd and the team some juice.
- 33:21Like, he's the dude out, just like Jadarian Price in game one versus the Patriots.
- 33:26He was the guy out there.
- 33:26There's a reason for that.
- 33:27I think we'll see Charbs out there for the first few touches, would not shock me.
- 33:32But I love that point that you said Nate brought up, so great job by Nate,
- 33:35but good, good job by you to recall it.
- 33:37Because, like, even if Charbonnet can do his best Travis Homer in this game.
- 33:42Like, if he's not quite got the juice just back yet, but he does the thing on third
- 33:46down, it does dramatically change what I think, A, Mike wants this offense to be,
- 33:51and what Fleury's probably able to do.
- 33:53It's…
- 33:54You know, I know there's some calls for Fleury's head already, and
- 33:57there's plenty of calls to swap Drew for, for Sam and all that.
- 34:02And dude, if you get hit within two and a half seconds in the NFL at the highest
- 34:06rate you've ever been hit in a nine-year career, when previous seasons you played
- 34:10with the Jets and the Panthers when they were lowest of the low, and the
- 34:142026 Seahawks make you h- own that stat-
- 34:17Yeah, it's
- 34:18Clinton: bad
- 34:18well, that's, that's as bad as it gets.
- 34:20So whatever they need to do from the, the chipping and the extra men.
- 34:26So okay, there's l- if there's less men in the f- in, you know, going
- 34:30out for routes, I don't know, guys.
- 34:32I, to me, it's like you've got to make the trade-off.
- 34:35You have to.
- 34:36Because like you said, Brandan, Spags is gonna bring the heat selectively and
- 34:40often, and it's gonna be exotic at times.
- 34:43You've gotta have extra dudes back there.
- 34:45We're not winning when we're one-on-one.
- 34:47We're just, the stats clearly show this big regression when
- 34:51they let dudes stay on islands.
- 34:53You've got to not allow that to be the thing that dictates the game.
- 34:56And then you know what?
- 34:58Put the chips down on JSN getting open.
- 35:00Put the chips down on Cooper Kupp being able to do a drag
- 35:04route and find some space.
- 35:05Put the chips there versus, oh, you know, we'll just let Abe
- 35:11be on a, be on an island again.
- 35:12Like, I can't have that, guys.
- 35:14So Phil, I think that's what Mike will be like, "Hey, y- if I'm playing DC
- 35:19against you, Fleury, you cannot allow me to do what the Bron- the Broncos did."
- 35:23It might be, it might look more conservative.
- 35:25I think that, I think you have to be kind of in that way.
- 35:28So that's, that's where I'm at.
- 35:30We gotta run them out of shell.
- 35:31I'm just sick and tired of teams just playing shell the whole game.
- 35:34And if we can't, I'm hoping that, Travis has his timing back right away.
- 35:38And as far as the pass pro, can we be sure that Travis always knew to have
- 35:43his noise-canceling earbuds in every time Hammock tried to teach pass pro?
- 35:47Because all the other running backs have completely dropped off from
- 35:50their former abilities this season.
- 35:53Clinton: Well, f- Brandan, did you, did you pick that up,
- 35:55that Freudian slip there by Phil?
- 35:56You,
- 35:57Travis?
- 35:58Clinton: Yeah, I think he- Oh … so he's calling it in.
- 35:59Yeah,
- 36:00I, I was thinking Tra- yeah.
- 36:01I was, yeah, I don't know how
- 36:02Clinton: I did that.
- 36:02So I, I, I poisoned the well.
- 36:03This is my bad, guys.
- 36:04I, I, I took S- So- … Zach Charbonnet, I took him down
- 36:07to the Travis Homer- To,
- 36:07to Travis Homer level?
- 36:08Yeah.
- 36:09Yeah.
- 36:09No, it's, I meant Zach.
- 36:10Yeah.
- 36:10I apologize for that.
- 36:11No, I, I knew that.
- 36:12Zach.
- 36:12I'm sorry.
- 36:13Yeah.
- 36:13Did Zach know to keep his headphones in when Hammock was teaching pass pro?
- 36:17Because I hope he comes back pass pro-ing the way he used to.
- 36:20That would be a huge plus compared to everybody else dropping a level.
- 36:24Does any running back on our team know how to pass pro now?
- 36:26Clinton: Yes.
- 36:27Zach Charbonnet
- 36:27… I'm hoping Zach does.
- 36:28Yes.
- 36:29But he also needs to be able to run successfully with these light
- 36:32boxes, because- For sure … other than Price, we haven't had that
- 36:36Clinton: You know.
- 36:37Very good.
- 36:37Yeah, thanks.
- 36:38I l- I don't know how I did Travis Homer.
- 36:40Was that- Well, that- 'Cause I was listening to your show
- 36:41Clinton,
- 36:42Clinton: Clinton slipped it in.
- 36:42Yeah, because I, I said, "All we need is third down Travis Homer f- just for pass
- 36:46protection," so I- … I put it in the, put it in the old mentals there, Phil.
- 36:49Yeah, he was good at it, no doubt about it.
- 36:51Okay, so that was
- 36:52Clinton: all hard.
- 36:52He was, he was good enough at it.
- 36:53Yeah, he was, he was fine at it, so not bad.
- 36:55Yeah.
- 36:56Clinton: All right, so that leaves me with the Def Leppard.
- 36:58Yeah, and you're not gonna sing it for us, Clinton?
- 37:00Clinton: No.
- 37:01Okay.
- 37:02Clinton: If that's okay.
- 37:03And I
- 37:03Clinton: do like-
- 37:04I was looking for
- 37:04Clinton: a good- I do like some Def Leppard, but that's
- 37:05not my favorite of theirs.
- 37:07Clinton, since our DBs, and, and I like this question, you guys might
- 37:11not, but I'm thinking- I like the
- 37:12graphic of the, the dog behind the drums.
- 37:16Clinton: That
- 37:17was actually- Wait,
- 37:18Clinton: I can't see.
- 37:18I- I didn't make that up.
- 37:19That's online.
- 37:20That's from an old commercial.
- 37:20Clinton: Hold on a second.
- 37:21I can't see it 'cause my peepers are not on.
- 37:23Please tell me that dog only has one arm.
- 37:25Please tell me.
- 37:26Does that dog have one
- 37:26arm?
- 37:26It, it does look like it only has one arm, I think.
- 37:28Clinton: Oh, that's the best thing ever.
- 37:30That's
- 37:30great.
- 37:31Clinton: That's great.
- 37:32It, it's from a commercial.
- 37:34Yeah, it's from a commercial where they did all these different glam
- 37:36bands, and the dogs would do it.
- 37:38Clinton: That's
- 37:38so funny.
- 37:38I thought it was funny.
- 37:39Clinton: I love it.
- 37:40Okay, this is Clinton's question.
- 37:41I like this question.
- 37:42I'm thinking along these lines.
- 37:44I'm hoping I'm not crazy.
- 37:45Help me out here, guys.
- 37:47Since our DBs have a clear advantage over the Chiefs' pedestrian-at-best
- 37:50wide receivers, how might Mike deploy them to solve other challenges very,
- 37:56versus Reid's Chiefs here, Clinton?
- 37:58Clinton: Well, I think this is y- this is what Mike does, so I, I, I'm
- 38:02not gonna get exotic with my answer.
- 38:04Mike plays, nickel and sometimes dime, and he plays Emmanwori
- 38:09basically as Sam linebacker.
- 38:10That's-
- 38:10Yeah
- 38:11… Clinton: it's a 4-3.
- 38:12So I wanted to go, 'cause I think most Seahawks fans, Chiefs fans
- 38:15that might be listening and might be like, "Well, what do you mean?
- 38:18He's a safety."
- 38:19Eh, not really.
- 38:20He's kind of safety in draft name only.
- 38:22We actually end up in 4-3, kind of a base defense more often than not, and
- 38:27at 225, Emmanwori is fast, clearly fast enough, but he's kind of man
- 38:32enough to play Sam linebacker versus the Chiefs and versus Canine, who
- 38:37likes, still likes to, yes, he'll go up the middle when it's well blocked.
- 38:41He'd still prefer to bounce it when it's not well blocked because he
- 38:45can get the edge as good as Jahmyr Gibbs, which is to say elite.
- 38:49And you know, short area quickness is off the charts with Canine.
- 38:53All that being said, I think that's what Mike challenges the
- 38:56Chiefs to go beat, you know.
- 38:57And from a dictation standpoint, it's like, "Nope, we're
- 39:00gonna come out in nickel.
- 39:01We're gonna come out with Emmanwori and Spoon in the box," even a lot of Julian
- 39:05Love down the box m- when it calls for it, "And we are gonna challenge you
- 39:10to, to still beat us either up the middle or to the edge with Canine, and
- 39:15we're gonna rally, we're gonna tackle, and we're not gonna allow explosives."
- 39:19That's the formula.
- 39:20It's not even, it's not anything more complicated than that.
- 39:23So I'll just pause there and be like, "That is what Mike is gonna try."
- 39:26If the Chiefs can crack that- I don't know what the counterpunch is.
- 39:31I really do not.
- 39:32How about you, Brandan?
- 39:33Anything further on this?
- 39:34Yeah.
- 39:35With that advantage, I, I think that this could be another Nicky
- 39:40Emmanwori game where we see him…
- 39:43We, we saw a couple times in the game against the Broncos where
- 39:46he was acting as spy on Bo Nix.
- 39:49And-
- 39:50Mm-hmm.
- 39:50Yeah, for sure
- 39:50… Bo is not…
- 39:52I, I don't know if I worry about Nix necessarily Running the ball against us.
- 39:57And even with Mahomes coming off his knee injury, he's had games where
- 40:02he's used his legs and, and found…
- 40:07Like, what was it?
- 40:08Against the, the Chargers, he had fi- had five rushes for 16 yards.
- 40:13Like, I, I wouldn't expect Mahomes to run it five times- No … or need
- 40:17to against the Chargers, but he did.
- 40:19He ran seven times for 23 yards against Denver.
- 40:22So he's not…
- 40:23The knee isn't impacting his ability to go, and I think that, with the
- 40:29DBs having that advantage, it could leave us to use Nicky and Mori in that
- 40:33way of, hey, you know, on a couple of these passing downs, just, just watch
- 40:38Pat, and if he gets outside, I- we're gonna have the advantage w- against
- 40:42those, y- those young tackles on either side of the line- Yeah
- 40:47To where, even Mori can, you know, push those guys back
- 40:51and, and make a ta- tackle on Pat.
- 40:53Hmm.
- 40:53Yeah, and Pat is getting first downs.
- 40:55That's what he does
- 40:56Clinton: when he does run.
- 40:56He always does.
- 40:57He always does.
- 40:57I- Like, he's scrambling- Yeah … less for sure, but after the kneecap
- 41:01injury, what- whatever that was, years ago, and last year blowing out
- 41:04a, blowing out something else, right?
- 41:06One of the Ls, CLs.
- 41:07But he's still effective when he does take off.
- 41:10Yeah, so I feel, sounds like I might have cut you off, man.
- 41:12Please.
- 41:12No, that's okay.
- 41:13I would like a little extra emphasis on K9 maybe too.
- 41:16You got, you got Love, you got Spoon, you got Eman on either side there,
- 41:21which it kind of like your first priority is we're gonna put a little extra effort
- 41:25to make sure K9 doesn't get going.
- 41:27I don't know if that's Mike's style, but I wouldn't mind those three kind
- 41:31of working it out- Yeah … to keep him a little shadowed until the play
- 41:35has declared itself a little bit.
- 41:36Clinton: I mean, shadow him- I guess that's
- 41:37kind of
- 41:37Clinton: it, yeah
- 41:37… in the screen game too.
- 41:39Clinton: Yeah.
- 41:39Yeah.
- 41:39Screens where we're- They're very good … we're, we're not defending well.
- 41:42They are very good at them, so we'll, we'll see.
- 41:45But I think when you say, you know, Mike might sprinkle some more on to, to
- 41:48protect against K9, that's where I, that's where I'm saying I don't think he will.
- 41:52I think he's gonna go play the way he wants to go play.
- 41:56Now maybe, maybe a bit more because they don't have the dynamic wide
- 42:00receiver for- That's what I meant by the
- 42:01question, yeah
- 42:02Clinton: Yeah, for sure.
- 42:04The other area, too, guys, which we didn't talk about just yet is for all
- 42:07their goodness, 'cause they're DVOA darlings on both sides of the ball,
- 42:11the Chiefs are this year, they're not specifically good in like third
- 42:15and short and fourth and short.
- 42:16They haven't been, just have not been good there.
- 42:18So just another area where it's like can we keep them not good there?
- 42:23When we get where we've been pretty good getting a team to third
- 42:25and one, third and two, and then getting a TFL and forcing a punt.
- 42:29We've done that a number of times where most teams are probably
- 42:32like, "Oh, God, move the chains.
- 42:33We're not stopping them."
- 42:34We don't have that problem, right?
- 42:37That's when Murphy comes to life, et cetera, et cetera.
- 42:38Mm-hmm.
- 42:39Just one of those indicators.
- 42:40Can we watch?
- 42:41Are we…
- 42:41Oh, man, they had a good first down.
- 42:42They- Got a second down run for three, it's third and one.
- 42:46Can we get off the field a few times in those scenarios?
- 42:49'Cause that will really…
- 42:51It will almost feel like a, a turnover on downs if we
- 42:54could steal one or two of those.
- 42:56I do think it's unlikely we overload on K9, 'cause that's not Mike's way,
- 42:59but if we start out not having some success against him, I'd like for Mike
- 43:03to at least have something in his pocket to kinda counter if K9 is succeeding
- 43:08where other backs have not against us.
- 43:10Clinton: Yeah.
- 43:11Fair.
- 43:13All right, we're gonna get to your wishes, your What If Super Hawks.
- 43:16I think I, I did put down what y'all had for last week,
- 43:19and then it got away from me.
- 43:21Was Emman two TFLs is what Brandan was hoping for.
- 43:24We did have the awesome sack, but that was his only TFL.
- 43:26Sam did not get his 70% completion, Clinton.
- 43:30No.
- 43:30So we'll get to yours in a moment, but first, we had far fewer wishes
- 43:34this week in our wishing well, so we need people to get into Discord
- 43:38and add some What If Super Hawks.
- 43:39Maybe they're just, just, rather than wish, we're just gonna go for what
- 43:43we can- We're just hoping We're just hoping for what we can get this week.
- 43:46Bunny did come through with two wishes.
- 43:49Our season-long undefeated streak begins and ends with the Chiefs.
- 43:55This will be the first win of our new streak.
- 43:57The last win is Lombardi number three.
- 44:00I like this, Bunny.
- 44:01I see where you're going.
- 44:0212 Man Records wishes that Charbs has a better rushing night than Canine.
- 44:08I will take it, even if it just means more touchdowns, I'll take it.
- 44:12JSN Jiggy with it, "By any score or any method, get a
- 44:16win, fingers crossed," emoji.
- 44:18I like that.
- 44:19Carly, "Sam Darnold looks like the guy who won us a Super Bowl again.
- 44:24I beat a dead horse with my Canine wish last year, and our run game got fixed.
- 44:28Maybe this will do it eventually, too."
- 44:30That's a great point, Carly.
- 44:32Keep wishing until it comes true.
- 44:34Don't stop believing.
- 44:36Don't stop trying.
- 44:37Don't stop dropping those wishes.
- 44:39Get in our flock at, getintheflock.com
- 44:43so you can help Carly with this wish.
- 44:45Let's get Sam back to Super Bowl Sam.
- 44:47Nate, "I wish the Seahawks O-line kills it, and we end up
- 44:52with the higher rushing total."
- 44:54Boy, that would be awesome.
- 44:56Josh, a simple wish, and maybe this would be enough for a win, "No fumbles."
- 45:01Hm.
- 45:01When's the last time that Zach, if I say his name right- … has
- 45:05fumbled and lost it for the Seahawks?
- 45:07The last time, it has never happened in the history of the world.
- 45:11Clinton: Wow, knock on all the wood- Keep it … with that one.
- 45:12Yes, exactly.
- 45:13Keep it.
- 45:14Yes, here we go.
- 45:15So now for your wishes.
- 45:16Brandan will be wishing first.
- 45:19Brandan, you were very, very close on your What If Super Hawk last week.
- 45:23Mm-hmm.
- 45:23What do you got for us this week?
- 45:25Well, I, it's normally difficult to wish for turnovers from specific
- 45:30people, but I'm gonna do it anyway.
- 45:32Okay.
- 45:32I'm gonna say that, that Mahomes and that link with Kelce, Julian
- 45:38Love's gonna be all over it, and he is going to get himself an INT this week.
- 45:42Love bites for us this week.
- 45:45INT.
- 45:47For love.
- 45:49Good.
- 45:49Love it.
- 45:50Clinton, how about you?
- 45:51Clinton: Yes.
- 45:51All right.
- 45:52Well, I have this habit of wishing for what I, or I mani- trying to manifest what
- 45:56I want, so I'm gonna try to avoid that.
- 45:58I'm gonna go somewhere else.
- 46:01Boy, I'm gonna go somewhere else.
- 46:02I am gonna go with I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish that Sam Darnold
- 46:08has, is sacked one time or less.
- 46:12How's that?
- 46:13Ooh.
- 46:13Clinton: Once or less.
- 46:15That's kind of an Abe wish, isn't it?
- 46:18Clinton: It's partially a wish, yes, yes.
- 46:21Also, it sounds like exactly the same thing you do every
- 46:23week of, of trying to, get what you want to happen happen.
- 46:28I think it still is a wish that, like, you desire and- Yeah … want
- 46:31to manifest into this game, right?
- 46:33Clinton: I guess so.
- 46:33Yeah, I don't even know I, I need to be the…
- 46:35Yes, fine.
- 46:36Both of you are right.
- 46:37Fine.
- 46:37Okay.
- 46:38So we are wishing for one or fewer sacks from Sam.
- 46:42I like that as long as it doesn't mean that he's just chucking it up there.
- 46:46You know, I will take a chuck it up if it's 50 yards down
- 46:48the field on third down.
- 46:49That's fine, Sam.
- 46:51I don't count picks if they're third and long and you throw it
- 46:5450 yards down and give JSN a shot.
- 46:56Yeah.
- 46:57That's not a negative to me, and people that call that a negative, I don't
- 47:00think you're understanding football.
- 47:02So, but what I don't want are fumbles, lots of sacks, and turnovers at the
- 47:07end of the game when we could have won if you'd just not thrown it.
- 47:11Yeah.
- 47:11Mm-hmm.
- 47:12Bill's okay with arm punts.
- 47:13Clinton: Yeah.
- 47:13That's,
- 47:14that's what you're
- 47:14Clinton: saying.
- 47:14The Jo- the Josh Allen arm punt is usually pretty effective.
- 47:18But- And then sometimes a- K- comes down with it or there's
- 47:21a flag on the play, right?
- 47:22Yeah.
- 47:22So a lot of that happens too.
- 47:23So many good things can happen and nothing bad can happen, really.
- 47:27Clinton: Yeah.
- 47:28Yeah.
- 47:28I mean, every now and again you get the return for a touchdown,
- 47:30but that's very, very rare.
- 47:32Yeah.
- 47:32That's like a punt return being returned also.
- 47:34It's very
- 47:34similar.
- 47:35Yeah, about the same odds.
- 47:36Yep.
- 47:36Very close.
- 47:37We're gonna predict the score.
- 47:38Clinton won 'cause, he was super close on the score pick last week.
- 47:43Mm-hmm.
- 47:43Was…
- 47:43Yep, he picked a one-point win, which we did not get, but our score
- 47:47was much closer to that than the nine-point win that Brandan chose.
- 47:52Mm-hmm.
- 47:52So Brandan needs a comeback.
- 47:54Brandan gets to go first.
- 47:56What's the score for this matchup Sunday night?
- 47:59I guess I get to, turn the tables on Clinton and go Seahawks 21, Chiefs 20.
- 48:05Clinton: There we go.
- 48:05That's so funny.
- 48:07All right.
- 48:07Wow,
- 48:0720.
- 48:08Clinton: I'm disrupted.
- 48:09I'm fully disrupted.
- 48:10I had a plan and he just disrupted it.
- 48:11So, it, it wasn't to get- … do, do a one-point jammy again.
- 48:15However, I was thinking 20-19 previously, but now I've got
- 48:19to change my, my game here.
- 48:21I'm not gonna pick the Chiefs to win.
- 48:23I'm not doing it.
- 48:24I'm not doing it.
- 48:25They might win this game, but I, I, I'm not there yet.
- 48:28I'm not there with this team.
- 48:29I
- 48:29feel better about this game than the Donkey game, and I know
- 48:32the Chiefs are a way better team.
- 48:34Yeah, that game was bad.
- 48:34Just Sunday night at home, extra time for Mike.
- 48:37I believe in this game.
- 48:39Clinton: Chiefs are much, much better.
- 48:39I
- 48:39thought about leaving you a one-point window too, but then
- 48:42I figured you'd probably take it.
- 48:43Clinton: I probably would've snuck in there like a jerk.
- 48:45You know, the jerk store called, called.
- 48:47They're out of me.
- 48:48All right, let's go…
- 48:51Oh, look, let's win this football game.
- 48:54If we win, which we can, I think we gotta get to the mid-20s, so
- 48:5924- Ugh, 24-20 Seattle Seahawks.
- 49:05We get the W.
- 49:07We need this win.
- 49:09Yeah, I, I think we could hold the Chiefs to 10 or 11 in this game.
- 49:12I really do.
- 49:13Clinton: I don't know.
- 49:14I don't know, Jim.
- 49:15That's, that's hard.
- 49:15That's hard, man.
- 49:17W- in a game, we haven't held the Broncos to that.
- 49:19We didn't hold the Chargers to that.
- 49:21We sure as you know what didn't hold the Commanders to that.
- 49:23And the Chiefs s- whatever, they have wide receiver challenges,
- 49:28but they have Pat Mahomes.
- 49:29The Chiefs
- 49:30are a little bit like if the 49ers didn't have Mike Evans.
- 49:35Clinton: Which didn't look good in that second half.
- 49:37That's when the Commanders almost won that game.
- 49:41Uh-huh.
- 49:41Yeah.
- 49:41Yeah.
- 49:41But, Except I do put K9 ahead of, the, the run game- Yes.
- 49:46Yeah … McCaffrey right now.
- 49:47Clinton: Agree.
- 49:48Agree.
- 49:49Yeah, it does turn out that maybe, maybe my 10 or 11 hold down on Sunday
- 49:53night might be a little bit hopeful.
- 49:55I, I just won't be surprised.
- 49:57I just won't be surprised if we can keep them to one touchdown
- 50:01and just a field goal or two.
- 50:03I just feel like our defense is ready to show what they've got, and
- 50:07hopefully our offense cashes in on the opportunity by not throwing it away.
- 50:11Mm-hmm.
- 50:11And just don't turn it over.
- 50:13I, I just, I'm, I'm looking for good things.
- 50:17We gotta win one of these next two.
- 50:19Why not start this week?
- 50:19Clinton: Yes.
- 50:20Yeah, 100%.
- 50:21That's my
- 50:21preference.
- 50:22I think just get this one out of the…
- 50:23Get those, this win first, and then worry about the next one.
- 50:27Clinton: I like that.
- 50:27Yeah.
- 50:27That, that seem, that feels right to me, Brandan.
- 50:29And of course, this will be out Thursday night for everybody, or
- 50:32even Thursday day, so check it out.
- 50:34And then tonight, if you're watching this at that point, let's, we got
- 50:37Bears, Patriots to kick the week off.
- 50:39So we gotta cheer for the Patriots, of cou- of course- Yes … because any NFC
- 50:42team that's kind of in the, the muddle mix of, potential playoff spots,
- 50:46we gotta start cheering against them.
- 50:48Yep.
- 50:48And it's, and no, it's not too early for that.
- 50:50It's, it's a perfect, perfect time for that.
- 50:52So why don't we start the week right?
- 50:54Let's get a Bears team dejected and feeling beaten down by a Patriots team.
- 50:59We go get a W at home in the PNW, and then we welcome the Bears next week.
- 51:05That feels like a nice combination for me.
- 51:07Boys, what do you say?
- 51:08Let's do it.
- 51:09Clinton: All right.
- 51:09I think with
- 51:10that- I like
- 51:11that one.
- 51:11There's only one thing left to say.
- 51:13Go Hawks.
- 51:15Clinton: Go
- 51:15Hawks.
- 51:15Go Hawks.
- 51:17Stop the puppy.
