Latest / Foul Territory / Profar’s PED appeal resolution, Gerrit Cole’s ST appearance, WBC switching to midseason tourney?

- 0:04Speaker 1: Breaking news here on FT, it's not surprising news. This
- 0:07Speaker 1: stuff never gets overturned, Jerkson Profar will in fact miss
- 0:11Speaker 1: the entire twenty twenty six season. Jeff Passen reporting about
- 0:14Speaker 1: this during the show, he said, after profiles appeal of
- 0:18Speaker 1: a positive ped test was resolved, he will serve a
- 0:22Speaker 1: one hundred and sixty two game suspension for testing positive
- 0:25Speaker 1: a second time. He will be un ineligible for postseason play.
- 0:31Speaker 1: No surprise here, this stuff almost never works, he said. Resolved.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I'm sure we'll get more, probably not that much more,
- 0:39Speaker 1: but I mean, isn't it denied? Resolved?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Hey, he did the appeal, he got caught.
- 0:46Speaker 3: He did it again, he got caught. What else do
- 0:49Speaker 3: we need to say? He did it cool?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Like not cool?
- 0:54Speaker 4: I do.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I don't even understand why we're he's out. We already
- 0:57Speaker 3: knew he was going to be suspended for the year
- 0:59Speaker 3: his appeal failed. Yes, okay, you did it, you got caught.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I think the stuff you's getting caught for, krat Sorry,
- 1:06Speaker 1: are things that are tough to dispute. You know, there
- 1:10Speaker 1: are some cases you've brought them up in the past
- 1:13Speaker 1: where there is some gray line, there's some questionable issues
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'm not going to go down that road again, but
- 1:18Speaker 1: you can just google someone like Chris Colobello. This is
- 1:23Speaker 1: just Hey, this dude was you know what, was it
- 1:25Speaker 1: either the first time or the second time using the
- 1:28Speaker 1: the stuff that you mask that Manny Ramirez was using.
- 1:31Speaker 1: There's really no reason why you'd be taking that in
- 1:33Speaker 1: any other world in life. So I'm sure they looked
- 1:38Speaker 1: there like, oh, wait, you tested positive for this and
- 1:40Speaker 1: then whatever the other one was called this like testosterone
- 1:43Speaker 1: or something. They're like, yeah, there's one reason for that.
- 1:45Speaker 1: You're not going to pull like a oh.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Oops, oops, I took some I took some estrogen to
- 1:52Speaker 5: just take some estrogen. No, it's a masking agent for
- 1:55Speaker 5: what you were taking, like you got it, got away
- 1:58Speaker 5: with it. To me, obviously, this is accusatory of me.
- 2:02Speaker 5: But he got the contract and he's gonna get about
- 2:06Speaker 5: half of that contract because essentially he missed half a
- 2:09Speaker 5: year last year, full year this year. So he got
- 2:11Speaker 5: paid half a year last year and he'll get paid
- 2:14Speaker 5: one more year next year. You know, it's interesting to
- 2:18Speaker 5: see that the process of missing one hundred and sixty
- 2:21Speaker 5: two games, or actually the process of missing eighty games
- 2:25Speaker 5: and the fear of missing one hundred and sixty two
- 2:28Speaker 5: games wasn't enough.
- 2:30Speaker 4: It wasn't enough, And that is that.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Is interesting to me, how like people that make decisions
- 2:36Speaker 5: like that think differently than me. Like I remember when
- 2:39Speaker 5: it was first in the minor leagues and it was
- 2:42Speaker 5: fifteen games, and I was like, oh my gosh, what
- 2:45Speaker 5: if somebody misses fifteen games? Now I look like an
- 2:48Speaker 5: idiot for thinking that. But this dude was like, no way,
- 2:52Speaker 5: they'll catch me again.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yeah, Ken just cheated about this too. They did catch
- 3:00Speaker 1: him again. Ken just tweeted about this too and said
- 3:04Speaker 1: his appeal did not result in a reduction of his penalty.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Whoever sending out.
- 3:11Speaker 3: The the rules, dude, you cheated, You got caught your
- 3:13Speaker 3: second time.
- 3:14Speaker 2: It's the rules of the rules.
- 3:16Speaker 3: It's it's it's what's the appeal for trying to get
- 3:19Speaker 3: a cut to one hundred games?
- 3:21Speaker 1: I mean, they don't really do that.
- 3:23Speaker 2: The rules are the rules.
- 3:24Speaker 3: And but by the way, he's still getting like twenty
- 3:26Speaker 3: something million dollars out of this contract. I mean it's
- 3:31Speaker 3: like twenty he's still getting over twenty million dollars out
- 3:33Speaker 3: of this contract.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It's not like he lost all the money.
- 3:36Speaker 3: People are like, oh, you know, he cost Yeah, he
- 3:38Speaker 3: costs himself a lot of it, but he's still getting
- 3:40Speaker 3: over twenty something million and he's still getting a lot
- 3:43Speaker 3: of money.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It's gonna be interesting though.
- 3:47Speaker 3: What's gonna be an interesting next year though, is how
- 3:49Speaker 3: did the Brave's welcome him back at that point.
- 3:52Speaker 4: I don't it's a good question they do. Really.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I don't think that if you're going to do that,
- 3:59Speaker 1: you should just do that now now. If you're not
- 4:01Speaker 1: going like, sit down right now and sit down with
- 4:03Speaker 1: some of the big boys there. We were just in
- 4:05Speaker 1: Brave camp the other day and be like, hey, guys,
- 4:07Speaker 1: how will this be received? Like, let's just talk about
- 4:10Speaker 1: this right now.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I don't think they can Scott.
- 4:13Speaker 3: I don't think they can right now because he has
- 4:15Speaker 3: to he has to serve a suspension, right, So they
- 4:17Speaker 3: have to keep him on the on the whatever list
- 4:20Speaker 3: for this year and then in the end of the
- 4:22Speaker 3: year they can do They can't.
- 4:23Speaker 2: They can't do it now.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Because they do it now, then one sixty two never
- 4:27Speaker 3: gets played out as part of a whatever, right. So
- 4:30Speaker 3: I think they have to keep I don't know that
- 4:32Speaker 3: for a fact, but I think they have to keep
- 4:33Speaker 3: him on the restricted list for the year even I mean,
- 4:36Speaker 3: he doesn't count against anything. He doesn't get paid, he
- 4:38Speaker 3: doesn't count as a roster spot, so it doesn't really matter.
- 4:41Speaker 4: But that would be even better age.
- 4:44Speaker 5: I think if they cut him, if they cut him
- 4:47Speaker 5: now and he still has because he doesn't that technically
- 4:50Speaker 5: got cut. He doesn't have to serve his one sixty
- 4:53Speaker 5: two until he gets signed with another team, that would
- 4:56Speaker 5: be even better. But no, because then the Braves, if
- 4:59Speaker 5: they cut him today, the Braves would technically have to
- 5:02Speaker 5: pay him because he's not under contract under a team,
- 5:05Speaker 5: so he wouldn't.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Have to serve as one sixty two.
- 5:07Speaker 5: It is how I heard it, but I would love that,
- 5:10Speaker 5: like really, just grind it in there. Just it irritates
- 5:14Speaker 5: players when this happens, and then when it happens twice,
- 5:19Speaker 5: it really irritates I'm not even to say players, it
- 5:20Speaker 5: irritates me.
- 5:21Speaker 4: So there.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Yeah, he signed his deal for forty two million dollars.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And if he plays next year, if we have a
- 5:33Speaker 1: full season of games, no lockout, if we have a
- 5:36Speaker 1: clean run because he's gonna get tested every five seconds,
- 5:40Speaker 1: then he would make twenty one. So they'd save about
- 5:43Speaker 1: half and it's even a little more than half because
- 5:45Speaker 1: the Braves are in luxury tax lands this year, so
- 5:48Speaker 1: they end up saving in extra few million bucks this
- 5:50Speaker 1: season on the contract because the luxury tax would have
- 5:55Speaker 1: had them paying about twenty percent more on the deal
- 5:58Speaker 1: for the season, so overall more.
- 6:02Speaker 5: I'll be honest, I don't know that he gets tested
- 6:04Speaker 5: more just because he's a two time offender.
- 6:09Speaker 4: I think you do, okay, because it's supposed to.
- 6:12Speaker 5: Be a random test, and unless they have an issue
- 6:16Speaker 5: with I know, I know, with like other recreational drugs,
- 6:21Speaker 5: then you then it's not as random. But supposedly it's
- 6:24Speaker 5: supposed to be a random test, but I do not
- 6:26Speaker 5: know that for sure.
- 6:28Speaker 1: No, it is random, but I think what happens is
- 6:30Speaker 1: you get tested more frequently if you've tested positive in
- 6:34Speaker 1: the past. So don't worry. I've got my I know
- 6:37Speaker 1: this assistant assistant working on the case.
- 6:42Speaker 4: I know this.
- 6:43Speaker 3: The drug tester peoples have been at every camp I've
- 6:46Speaker 3: been at almost every day, so they're here every day, Yeah, somebody,
- 6:50Speaker 3: they're always here. Every every clubhouse I go to, there
- 6:53Speaker 3: is the CDT guy in there, two of them or
- 6:56Speaker 3: three of them waiting for people. So they are doing
- 6:59Speaker 3: the test. Definitely say that.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So in the Joint Drug Agreement with the League and
- 7:05Speaker 1: the players, it says a player test positive is subject
- 7:08Speaker 1: to mandatory follow up testing after that result. The Independent
- 7:12Speaker 1: Program Administrator sets the schedule, and those follow up tests
- 7:15Speaker 1: are in addition to the league's normal testing pool. So
- 7:18Speaker 1: I'm trying to see the specifics. But yeah, there definitely
- 7:21Speaker 1: is a little more that gets done once you are
- 7:24Speaker 1: on the criminal list.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Also, yeah, I'm just gonna ask this.
- 7:28Speaker 3: And I played with Profar, and I like Profar When
- 7:31Speaker 3: I played with him, he was a young kid, he
- 7:32Speaker 3: had just come up. He was the number one prospect
- 7:34Speaker 3: and smile and happy all that. I really did like
- 7:37Speaker 3: Profar when I played for him. But what kind of
- 7:39Speaker 3: person are you when you've already been caught once that
- 7:42Speaker 3: you do it again? Are you just an egomaniac and
- 7:44Speaker 3: you just say I have to do this, Like that's
- 7:47Speaker 3: my question is you know Kratz said, oh, got tested
- 7:52Speaker 3: once and it hurts his feelings as a player, But
- 7:54Speaker 3: you already got you already got popped once. So you
- 7:57Speaker 3: just believe that you're bigger than the testing and you
- 8:00Speaker 3: can beat the testing, and you just firmly believe that
- 8:02Speaker 3: whatever you're taking won't get fought. That tells me that
- 8:05Speaker 3: there's something going on, maybe in his brain that just
- 8:08Speaker 3: thinks he's above the testing because he got again.
- 8:13Speaker 5: This one's for the dudes looking for peak bedroom performance.

- 9:08Speaker 1: more details. And important safety information, and we thank Blue
- 9:11Speaker 1: Cheo for sponsoring the podcast. I'll give you a little
- 9:15Speaker 1: bit of a different spin because I've gone down this
- 9:18Speaker 1: rabbit hole before with some people, and what I've been
- 9:21Speaker 1: told is that it takes away your superpower. You become
- 9:25Speaker 1: so reliant on it. It would be like somebody who
- 9:27Speaker 1: goes to the gym every day and then they just
- 9:30Speaker 1: stop cold turkey and they don't go to the gym anymore,
- 9:32Speaker 1: and your body starts to feel like crap. Right, So
- 9:36Speaker 1: take that and enhance that story, put that story on
- 9:40Speaker 1: steroids PDEs, and then there you go. You took away
- 9:45Speaker 1: someone superpower from them cold turkey. It's difficult. So what
- 9:48Speaker 1: do you try to do? You try to come up
- 9:49Speaker 1: with other ways to mask that superpower and get away
- 9:52Speaker 1: with it. That is my guess. That's not how it
- 9:54Speaker 1: works for everyone. I'm sure there's people on there that
- 9:55Speaker 1: are just like, I'll screw it. Whoever's given me this,
- 9:58Speaker 1: now give me something else that I should be good with.
- 10:00Speaker 1: But generally, i've heard it is difficult for people that
- 10:03Speaker 1: are juicing to get off of the juicing. I've heard
- 10:06Speaker 1: that with many other former players who used to do
- 10:08Speaker 1: that because I'd ask the same question age I remember,
- 10:11Speaker 1: you'd be around someone who knows a player and you'd
- 10:13Speaker 1: be like, why why is that player still doing that,
- 10:15Speaker 1: especially if they got caught, and you're like, hey, some
- 10:18Speaker 1: guys can't get off of it, and some do, and
- 10:20Speaker 1: then they still are able to mask it. But in
- 10:23Speaker 1: this case, credit to the Joint Drug Agreement. That's what
- 10:26Speaker 1: it's here for. It is here to get rid of
- 10:30Speaker 1: or at least try to curb the cheating, and then
- 10:32Speaker 1: it is also here to set an example. Right, Hey,
- 10:35Speaker 1: we don't want this in our sport. And sometimes people
- 10:37Speaker 1: joke like, oh, why don't we just have everybody do
- 10:39Speaker 1: whatever they want? Okay, you're gonna have every freaking twelve
- 10:41Speaker 1: year old in the country. Then trying to do that
- 10:43Speaker 1: to make the league like that, that's not a thing.
- 10:45Speaker 1: That's not going to be a thing. You have to
- 10:47Speaker 1: set a line here. And luckily we don't have a
- 10:51Speaker 1: ton of these stories pop up, maybe what three to
- 10:54Speaker 1: five a year that pop up. We've had him, We've
- 10:57Speaker 1: had Johann Rojas. As you're in a fields camp, Kepler
- 11:05Speaker 1: from the names, there's a bunch of minor league guys
- 11:07Speaker 1: that'll get busted but from the from big league regulars,
- 11:11Speaker 1: you're looking at probably a maximum of five over the
- 11:15Speaker 1: course of a year, and often it's more along the
- 11:17Speaker 1: lines of two or three. I look at that as
- 11:20Speaker 1: a success. Some people might say, well, there's plenty of
- 11:23Speaker 1: others doing things maybe. I mean, the science is often
- 11:27Speaker 1: a step ahead. But I do think that we've made
- 11:29Speaker 1: significant strides here. And you guys talk about it all
- 11:31Speaker 1: the time that testers are everywhere. They spend millions and
- 11:33Speaker 1: millions of dollars of trying to keep the sport as
- 11:35Speaker 1: clean as possible, and it's come a long way.
- 11:40Speaker 4: I agree it has.
- 11:42Speaker 2: It's much better than what it was. Yeah, much better
- 11:46Speaker 2: than what it was. I'll say.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Some people are always going to try to break the rules, though,
- 11:49Speaker 3: that's all because there's too much money involved.
- 11:50Speaker 2: There's too much money involved.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Correct, It's just with this guy he had already signed.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Some people are like, hey, you signed your deal, okay,
- 12:02Speaker 1: then what you wanted him to rub them and then
- 12:05Speaker 1: be a shell of himself. I don't know. You don't
- 12:07Speaker 1: know the exacts that are going on behind the scenes.
- 12:09Speaker 1: The only we won't speculate there. The one thing I
- 12:11Speaker 1: can do is say the reason we're bringing it up again,
- 12:14Speaker 1: is this particular case was appealed. Many players don't appeal.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Many of them say, eh, we.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Hear about, just don't hear about.
- 12:23Speaker 2: We don't hear about the appeal. They almost all appeal.
- 12:26Speaker 2: They just don't hear about. This one got out for
- 12:28Speaker 2: some reason.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Well, they said, Ken said, Ken said, with the one
- 12:31Speaker 5: hundred and six, but his second offense automatically it's released
- 12:36Speaker 5: because I forget who wrote the article, but we had
- 12:39Speaker 5: Ken on the day talking about the article. Wasn't it
- 12:42Speaker 5: wasn't one hundred percent Ken's article. But basically this is
- 12:47Speaker 5: a different type because we haven't had many one sixty two's,
- 12:50Speaker 5: and so guys go through the appeal process on the
- 12:53Speaker 5: eighty game suspension, they just do it behind closed doors
- 12:58Speaker 5: unless somebody it out in the player's camp because the
- 13:02Speaker 5: teams don't know players, association doesn't know. It's the it's
- 13:06Speaker 5: the testing major League Baseball and the player.
- 13:11Speaker 4: That's that's it, or maybe the agency.
- 13:15Speaker 1: One other reason. Going back to your other point earlier
- 13:17Speaker 1: about cutting him, and I'll correct myself on this one too.
- 13:21Speaker 1: You can try and make a decision as a team,
- 13:23Speaker 1: but the organization is not going to cut him. Because
- 13:26Speaker 1: there's a chance that he gets popped again. It's happened twice.
- 13:29Speaker 1: If he gets popped again, then he's banned from the
- 13:31Speaker 1: game and the entire contract is toast after that. Right,
- 13:35Speaker 1: there's one year left of the contract, so it's just
- 13:37Speaker 1: a formality. It's not like he's going to be around
- 13:39Speaker 1: the team. He's not playing for the entire season. Last year,
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's always kind of weird. I think that the rules
- 13:45Speaker 1: are in a good place. A lot of people will
- 13:46Speaker 1: be like, oh, one test and you should be gone, okay,
- 13:49Speaker 1: and you should avoid every contract and all that. You're
- 13:51Speaker 1: going to get some CSI situations going where it gets
- 13:57Speaker 1: real dicey and somebody could try and doctors something that
- 14:00Speaker 1: someone's eating or whatever. In this case, we've come a
- 14:05Speaker 1: long way. Kratz was mentioning fifteen games. Now it's half
- 14:08Speaker 1: a season. Then when you come back, you're not eligible
- 14:11Speaker 1: for the playoffs. So it's super awkward, right, so it's
- 14:14Speaker 1: look at Profar, It's hey, I missed half the year,
- 14:16Speaker 1: then I came back. The Braves weren't a playoff team,
- 14:19Speaker 1: but if they were, it had been weird. So they're like,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm going to give this guy playing time, he's going
- 14:22Speaker 1: to try to help me get to the playoffs. Then
- 14:23Speaker 1: he's going to sit for the postseason. That's a pretty
- 14:26Speaker 1: solid first punishment, second punishment, he's not playing a full
- 14:30Speaker 1: season of baseball, and then third punishment, you're out of
- 14:33Speaker 1: the game. I feel like we're in a pretty good spot.
- 14:36Speaker 1: People always push, they want more. I feel like that's
- 14:38Speaker 1: a pretty strong penalty.
- 14:42Speaker 4: A great it is.
- 14:44Speaker 5: It's not gonna be nothing you do is going to
- 14:45Speaker 5: be one hundred percent because of the fact that there's
- 14:48Speaker 5: a lot of money out there to be had. But
- 14:50Speaker 5: also they're not catching one hundred percent of the guys
- 14:53Speaker 5: that are doing it right now because, like Scott said,
- 14:55Speaker 5: the science is ahead of the testing.
- 15:00Speaker 1: There are many questions in the chat, like do we
- 15:05Speaker 1: know if it was from two different cases? Yeah, because
- 15:07Speaker 1: he failed the test about a year apart. It was
- 15:11Speaker 1: almost exactly a year apart when those two failed tests occurred,
- 15:15Speaker 1: and first time was to half a season. So anyway,
- 15:20Speaker 1: no profar official because when it first came out, we
- 15:24Speaker 1: were like, he's appealing, and I think they're I mean,
- 15:29Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember, we'll have to do some homework
- 15:31Speaker 1: at some point. If there was an appeal that actually worked,
- 15:33Speaker 1: but it's usually kind of auto. You got popped league
- 15:38Speaker 1: and players are on same page. You know, players want
- 15:41Speaker 1: this too. They don't want to be playing against dudes
- 15:43Speaker 1: that are juicing their brains out. They want an even
- 15:46Speaker 1: playing fields. We went through that as a game.
- 15:48Speaker 5: I know there's appeal. I know there is an appeal,
- 15:51Speaker 5: and I'm not going to say who because it was
- 15:52Speaker 5: done behind closed doors, it was done before it was out.
- 15:56Speaker 5: The appeal process went through. He sent it in what
- 16:00Speaker 5: he was taking and it was listed as a product
- 16:05Speaker 5: that should not have tested positive, and they found it
- 16:08Speaker 5: in that product and he was not.
- 16:10Speaker 4: He was not suspended. So there are appeals.
- 16:12Speaker 5: We just don't hear about him. We do not hear
- 16:15Speaker 5: about him because they do not come out like.
- 16:17Speaker 1: This well, and in fairness to the player, if they're
- 16:20Speaker 1: involved in a situation like that, Let's say they have
- 16:23Speaker 1: a protein powder that's NSF certified that everyone's taking, but
- 16:26Speaker 1: then they test it and they're like, Okay, the company
- 16:28Speaker 1: screwed up. Don't you think that player deserves to get
- 16:32Speaker 1: a fair case and also not have it be public
- 16:35Speaker 1: because the public is so judgmental. They're still going to
- 16:38Speaker 1: be like oh I think he did something.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yes, it's all supposed to be secret. It was all
- 16:44Speaker 3: supposed to be secret, and I don't know. I don't
- 16:47Speaker 3: know if any has anybody won their appeal crowds that
- 16:49Speaker 3: you know of, I don't know.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what I was saying.
- 16:52Speaker 1: He said, Yeah, there was a guy.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, who's.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Not going to name because it's a private case.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Right, it's scary for that player in that moment you
- 17:02Speaker 5: get that call. Oh my gosh, I couldn't imagine that
- 17:06Speaker 5: call because I also saw my friend go through it.
- 17:10Speaker 5: We mentioned Chris Colabella before he went through it, and
- 17:14Speaker 5: him along with a couple other guys. It's a longer
- 17:16Speaker 5: story than we even have a show for that tested
- 17:20Speaker 5: positive for things that have now recently said nah, you know,
- 17:24Speaker 5: that's technically not what we're testing for.
- 17:27Speaker 4: So it's it's hard no matter what.
- 17:30Speaker 5: It's hard to see people go through that because it
- 17:32Speaker 5: is like your your reputation, your entire career is put
- 17:38Speaker 5: is questioned, and people are always going to be They're
- 17:41Speaker 5: going to take the easy narrative and you never really
- 17:43Speaker 5: have a chance to explain yourself. So yeah, I'm glad
- 17:46Speaker 5: that that it happens. Behind closed doors.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Hey we're back. Not great news to start the day.
- 17:54Speaker 1: This broke just before we got going with the show.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I mean it might not turn into something of a
- 18:00Speaker 1: long term issue during the season, but at least to
- 18:02Speaker 1: start the year, the Blue Jays won't have Trey Savage
- 18:06Speaker 1: on the opening day roster a right shoulder impingement krats. Now,
- 18:10Speaker 1: from a Blue Jay standpoint, you want to make sure
- 18:13Speaker 1: you keep your young asset in a good spot. They
- 18:17Speaker 1: do have some pitching depth. They're one of those teams
- 18:19Speaker 1: where we're like, okay, another guy steps in, we should
- 18:21Speaker 1: be fine for now to hold things up. Could this
- 18:25Speaker 1: I mean, obviously you want them to recover, but could
- 18:27Speaker 1: this be a blessing in disguise? This guy pitched deep
- 18:29Speaker 1: in October. They were using them a lot. I don't
- 18:32Speaker 1: want to say. I'm just saying from an inning standpoint,
- 18:34Speaker 1: if you just pitched the full season and then went
- 18:36Speaker 1: deep into October again, so if you're going to have
- 18:38Speaker 1: an issue, hopefully get out of the way again. I'm
- 18:41Speaker 1: trying to glass half.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Full this Yeah for sure.
- 18:44Speaker 5: I mean, this happens to the Dodgers and we're like,
- 18:46Speaker 5: oh man, I'm sure they're just holding them back for
- 18:49Speaker 5: the playoffs. I'm sure they're just doing, you know, making
- 18:51Speaker 5: sure we don't keep we keep our innings down. I
- 18:54Speaker 5: was trying to look up how many innings he actually
- 18:56Speaker 5: threw last year, and it was a crazy amount of innings.
- 19:02Speaker 5: But he did just come off of the year before
- 19:06Speaker 5: college throwing ninety three, so he bumped up in innings
- 19:09Speaker 5: and you know, I wouldn't say he was going to
- 19:11Speaker 5: take an entire workload. But to me, we heard this yesterday.
- 19:15Speaker 5: We heard from I forget who it was at camp,
- 19:18Speaker 5: like Shane Bieber I think, said like he wasn't quite
- 19:21Speaker 5: bouncing back right at the start. But this is a
- 19:24Speaker 5: team that went out and signed Max Schurz, I think
- 19:27Speaker 5: on January thirtieth, So maybe there was a little bit
- 19:30Speaker 5: of that, like coming into this knowing you just can't
- 19:33Speaker 5: quite take it as quickly.
- 19:36Speaker 4: I think he'll be fine, but you never want to
- 19:38Speaker 4: see a young pitcher getting hurt.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Charge about Yeah, we're charging the mound. It's presented by
- 19:47Speaker 1: Fox One. Go get the app for baseball season, which
- 19:50Speaker 1: is around the corner, and you already saw all those
- 19:52Speaker 1: games on the Fox one app for the WBC. So
- 19:55Speaker 1: here's where we start. Is the WBC going to move
- 19:59Speaker 1: next time around? Manford's already talking about this. The Baseball
- 20:03Speaker 1: Commission is speaking highly of how much of a success
- 20:07Speaker 1: and how big it has become. I completely agree, But
- 20:11Speaker 1: is it the yes big money too? As Kratz was
- 20:13Speaker 1: making a little dollar sign. But AJ, do you think
- 20:16Speaker 1: it's the right move for the league to seriously be
- 20:19Speaker 1: considering this as a mid season tournament. Remember we talked
- 20:22Speaker 1: months ago about how MLB gets enamored with NBA because
- 20:26Speaker 1: NBA has made many moves that have been wise and
- 20:29Speaker 1: MLB has taken the other direction. Now I feel like
- 20:31Speaker 1: they try and catch up. No, no, no, no, I want
- 20:35Speaker 1: to rephrase XAJ was looking at me weird. NBA has
- 20:38Speaker 1: made some wise marketing moves in the past. What they
- 20:41Speaker 1: do with their regular season and now the tanking and
- 20:44Speaker 1: all of that is crap. I don't like the tournament.
- 20:47Speaker 1: The tournament has made them money on the short term.
- 20:50Speaker 1: On the long term, I think it again cheapens the product.
- 20:53Speaker 1: So MLB looking at the NBA and saying, hey, let's
- 20:56Speaker 1: copy them, just because they're better with letting creators and
- 20:59Speaker 1: influencers use video and how they promote their players like
- 21:02Speaker 1: to me, that is a different bucket that the NBA
- 21:04Speaker 1: does significantly better than MLB. But MLB having some tradition
- 21:09Speaker 1: and kind of a classic season I think is important.
- 21:12Speaker 1: So if we move the WBC to mid season and
- 21:15Speaker 1: all of a sudden we have a tournament taking over
- 21:16Speaker 1: for like ten days, do you think that's a good idea?
- 21:19Speaker 1: And do you really think that many more US pitchers
- 21:22Speaker 1: are going to raise their hand in mid July and
- 21:24Speaker 1: be like, yeah, sure, I'll pitch my brains out in
- 21:27Speaker 1: mid July when I feel like I need a weak break.
- 21:30Speaker 2: No, I don't. I think it's a terrible idea.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Honestly.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I think for the Olympics, sure, if you want to
- 21:34Speaker 3: have a short tournament, But there's so many things to
- 21:38Speaker 3: think about with this and what the implications could be. Well,
- 21:41Speaker 3: I'll use Tarret schoobl as an example, just because he's
- 21:44Speaker 3: kind of been the hob button topic of him pitching.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Him being a free agent, you think he's more or
- 21:50Speaker 3: less likely in July to pitch in a ten game
- 21:53Speaker 3: tournament when he's even closer it's a free agency than
- 21:57Speaker 3: he is at the beginning of the season. There's no
- 21:59Speaker 3: way I can't see Freddy Paruta, who didn't pitch because
- 22:02Speaker 3: he said he was a free agent at the end
- 22:04Speaker 3: of the year and he wants to get ready with
- 22:05Speaker 3: a new team. He gets to July and he's gonna
- 22:07Speaker 3: go throw two of his starts and risk that for
- 22:11Speaker 3: not for his team that he pays his salary. It's
- 22:14Speaker 3: coolinal listen, it's unbelievable as an unbelievable tournament. But I
- 22:18Speaker 3: love what Max Scherzer said when he said move it
- 22:20Speaker 3: back to now do it the last two weeks of
- 22:22Speaker 3: spring training, because my other problem I have you do
- 22:24Speaker 3: it during the regular season is what do you do
- 22:26Speaker 3: with all the players that aren't on a team, that
- 22:28Speaker 3: aren't playing in this tournament. Do you stop just say hey, guys,
- 22:31Speaker 3: you get two weeks off, congratulations. It also kills the
- 22:34Speaker 3: momentum for the All Star Game, which is a big
- 22:36Speaker 3: deal in MLB as we all know. And then if okay,
- 22:40Speaker 3: let's say all the stars going play in the WBC
- 22:42Speaker 3: and then the regular season continues, say they just say,
- 22:45Speaker 3: all right, well the stars are going, We're gonna keep
- 22:46Speaker 3: playing the regular season. Do you want pennant races decided
- 22:49Speaker 3: by guys that aren't your stars on your team? Do
- 22:52Speaker 3: you want that to be how you determine who gets
- 22:54Speaker 3: to win a World Series, I would think not. And
- 22:57Speaker 3: then also there's there's way more questions with it during
- 23:00Speaker 3: the season. I get the Olympics six teams, fine, boom
- 23:03Speaker 3: boom boom, knock it out real quick. But you can't
- 23:05Speaker 3: do a two week or was this two weeks? But
- 23:09Speaker 3: I'm over two week tournament. You just can't do it
- 23:11Speaker 3: in the middle of the season, plus travel, plus all
- 23:14Speaker 3: that stuff. It doesn't it's not feasible.
- 23:17Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 23:17Speaker 3: If you can do a four or five day tournament, yes,
- 23:19Speaker 3: but a fourteen day tournament, seven day, seventeen day tournament,
- 23:22Speaker 3: it's not realistic.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I think you'll get more players position players dropping out
- 23:27Speaker 1: if you do a mid season tournament too. Right right now,
- 23:29Speaker 1: most of them are in pretty good shape to be like, okay, yeah,
- 23:32Speaker 1: I'm in for this. The reliever rules will be even crazier,
- 23:35Speaker 1: So I'm with you. The one other point I do
- 23:37Speaker 1: want to make, because I liked what Max said on
- 23:39Speaker 1: the show yesterday AJA in terms of having guys more
- 23:43Speaker 1: ramped up. The reason they won't do it is krats,
- 23:47Speaker 1: can you give me the dollar signs again? Thank you?
- 23:50Speaker 1: March Madness starts today, so they conveniently had this thing
- 23:55Speaker 1: go right up until that starts, and you can try
- 23:59Speaker 1: and work around the schedule, but there's a lot of games,
- 24:01Speaker 1: so you would go up against that, and you want
- 24:03Speaker 1: to dominate the headlines. I'm kind of like, hey, I
- 24:05Speaker 1: think we've got in a good Spotcrats. Sometimes you don't
- 24:08Speaker 1: have to mess with a good thing. Just leave it
- 24:10Speaker 1: the way it was, and then you get a week
- 24:12Speaker 1: ish until the actual season starts. Guys go get acclimated
- 24:15Speaker 1: with their team and then and then you run. So
- 24:17Speaker 1: from a business standpoint, I just don't see them matching
- 24:20Speaker 1: up against a tournament that for three weeks really dominates headlines.
- 24:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't want to go up against March Madness.
- 24:28Speaker 5: I don't want to put the other Let's see how
- 24:30Speaker 5: many how many people participated. I think they said there
- 24:34Speaker 5: was two hundred big leaguers participated in the WBC all
- 24:40Speaker 5: throughout all the teams. I don't want to put the
- 24:43Speaker 5: other twenty five times seven seven hundred other big leaguers
- 24:49Speaker 5: at any risk of taking two weeks off or even
- 24:51Speaker 5: they said they could cut it down to ten days
- 24:53Speaker 5: because the wouldn't need the exhibition games blah blah blah.
- 24:56Speaker 5: And for Manford to say this, he obviously didn't travel
- 24:58Speaker 5: with Team Japan showy Tani Yakamoto Mori a Kami Yamamoto
- 25:03Speaker 5: over to Japan like they had to show Hayes essentially
- 25:07Speaker 5: missed the entire spring training. He's essentially played in one game,
- 25:11Speaker 5: two games, flew over to Japan, and they've been over
- 25:14Speaker 5: in Japan. Like it's a tougher schedule than just oh,
- 25:16Speaker 5: you just got to go to Houston, or Bryce Harper
- 25:19Speaker 5: and Kyle Schwarber and Brad Keller are all driving back
- 25:22Speaker 5: from Miami.
- 25:22Speaker 4: No, they're no, you can't have in the middle of
- 25:26Speaker 4: the season.
- 25:26Speaker 5: You're putting more players at risk of injuries, and I
- 25:29Speaker 5: think you'll get the same, if not less players that
- 25:33Speaker 5: would play in that.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the part that I was confused about. They're like, oh, yeah,
- 25:39Speaker 1: we'll get more participation mid season. Really you sure about that?
- 25:44Speaker 2: Be injured?
- 25:44Speaker 3: Also, don't forget, don't forget more guys will be injured
- 25:47Speaker 3: already just from the regular season going on. Most guys
- 25:50Speaker 3: come into spring training feeling pretty good, right most and
- 25:53Speaker 3: then guys get hurt during the season. So you're also
- 25:55Speaker 3: gonna have guys that are injured during the season and
- 25:57Speaker 3: don't count. There's too many logistical nightmare. Yeah, like Krats said,
- 26:01Speaker 3: if you got a flight to Japan and play those
- 26:03Speaker 3: whole play games, really you're gonna have showy flight to
- 26:06Speaker 3: Japan for a week in the middle of the season.
- 26:08Speaker 2: He's not gonna want to do that, I'm sorry.
- 26:11Speaker 5: Or banged up dudes like, ah, yeah, you know I've
- 26:13Speaker 5: been playing. We just talked about during during the final game,
- 26:16Speaker 5: talked about William Contrere's he had a broken middle finger
- 26:20Speaker 5: that he was playing with for most of the season.
- 26:22Speaker 5: Oh hey, we'll let you go play into WBC. I
- 26:25Speaker 5: know you've got a broken middle finger. You've been playing
- 26:27Speaker 5: for us. We'll definitely let you go and play more,
- 26:30Speaker 5: play more games.
- 26:31Speaker 1: No chance.
- 26:31Speaker 5: Everybody plays through Day one and first game of the playoffs.
- 26:36Speaker 5: So the only time that you you feel one hundred
- 26:38Speaker 5: in a regular season.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Yeah. And then the last point here was about the
- 26:44Speaker 1: quality of baseball. Okay, like, guys are in a rhythm
- 26:49Speaker 1: and all of that, But did anyone have a problem
- 26:51Speaker 1: with the quality of baseball?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Like, watch the ball is pretty damn good. Game good.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Actually, yeah, it wasn't the defense. There wasn't anything like that.
- 27:02Speaker 3: It was well played. Games all were almost close. They
- 27:05Speaker 3: were all almost close. There wasn't a ton of blowouts.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Even some of the games we thought would be blowouts weren't.
- 27:11Speaker 3: I mean it was a lot of close games, a
- 27:12Speaker 3: lot of good games.
- 27:14Speaker 2: No quality of baseball. That's just an excuse they want
- 27:17Speaker 2: to move.
- 27:17Speaker 1: It, right, there's some reasoning there. I only know a
- 27:22Speaker 1: smidge of it. Of course, they think, you know, they
- 27:24Speaker 1: can dominate the stage even more in the summer. But
- 27:27Speaker 1: like you already do you already have the games going on?
- 27:29Speaker 1: This is you now figured out a way every few
- 27:32Speaker 1: years to dominate ratings and headlines in March. But nothing's
- 27:36Speaker 1: happening spring training.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Yeah, nothing's happening. Nothing's happening now. They like you said,
- 27:44Speaker 3: March madness is starting this week. WBC's over. It's the
- 27:48Speaker 3: dog days of tanking in the NBA, right, there's no
- 27:51Speaker 3: NFL Hockey's in the dog days of trying to just
- 27:55Speaker 3: get them to the postseason. There was nothing happening. In honesty,
- 27:58Speaker 3: spring training is what it is. Yes, people tune in,
- 28:01Speaker 3: but it's not a regular season baseball game. That's why
- 28:03Speaker 3: the viewership was off the charts. That's why everybody was
- 28:06Speaker 3: talking about WBC. People that don't even know about baseball
- 28:10Speaker 3: are coming up to be talking about Man, I had
- 28:11Speaker 3: to watch that USA game. It was unbelievable, So why
- 28:15Speaker 3: do we want to put it again? It takes away
- 28:17Speaker 3: from the All Star Game too, because guys aren't gonna
- 28:19Speaker 3: want to go play in the All Star Game then
- 28:20Speaker 3: go play in the WBC.
- 28:21Speaker 2: No, like, no stop.
- 28:24Speaker 5: I mean, maybe do you think there's something with you know,
- 28:27Speaker 5: they have these contracts, with all these spring training site
- 28:30Speaker 5: cities and everything. Do you think they're complaining. Do you
- 28:33Speaker 5: feel like they like, is there something else? Because really,
- 28:36Speaker 5: the only way you make a change after two incredibly
- 28:40Speaker 5: successful especially overseas, WBCs like these WBC's have been so
- 28:46Speaker 5: successful that you're like thinking about making a change, it
- 28:50Speaker 5: has to be something on the money side. Like you're
- 28:55Speaker 5: not bettering the health for players, You're not doing anything
- 28:57Speaker 5: like that.
- 28:58Speaker 4: So to me, on the money side, why would they
- 29:00Speaker 4: be thinking about that.
- 29:02Speaker 1: It's a great question and maybe someone else will have
- 29:04Speaker 1: an answer for us, but usually you're just looking at
- 29:07Speaker 1: ratings and the packages that they can sell. I don't also,
- 29:11Speaker 1: I mean, they were awesome all of that stuff was great.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Sometimes you can look again at the other leagues and go, oh,
- 29:16Speaker 1: look what the NBA and the NHL did where they're
- 29:19Speaker 1: changing how.
- 29:20Speaker 4: They do it.
- 29:22Speaker 2: NBA do, what did the NBA do? What has NBA done?
- 29:25Speaker 3: No one watches the ratings are down, no one's watching
- 29:27Speaker 3: the All Star Game.
- 29:28Speaker 1: And nobody cares about that year.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Somebody cares about the tournament. Nobody cares about the tournament.
- 29:33Speaker 3: That tournament they play, really, I mean, they have playing
- 29:37Speaker 3: games for the playoffs. That teams are like, hey, we
- 29:39Speaker 3: made the playoffs and they're out in one game, right,
- 29:42Speaker 3: I mean after after twenty of the thirty teams make
- 29:45Speaker 3: the playoffs. So I mean all that, it's teams in
- 29:49Speaker 3: the NBA either tank or try, and there's no in between.
- 29:53Speaker 3: It's tank or try. And it's a salary cap league
- 29:55Speaker 3: that everyone says fixing parody.
- 29:57Speaker 5: Do like I do like the fact that they're talking
- 30:00Speaker 5: about it too many times in baseball they're like, Nope,
- 30:04Speaker 5: there's no way we're visiting that. Oh wait, that could
- 30:07Speaker 5: have been a good idea. We're two years too late.
- 30:09Speaker 5: So I like that they're talking about it, but I
- 30:11Speaker 5: just don't I don't see it just make sure you
- 30:13Speaker 5: talk to the players like they're the ones that are
- 30:15Speaker 5: playing in the games.
- 30:18Speaker 3: Here's the thing, you know what this is. It's bargaining.
- 30:21Speaker 3: It's a bargaining year. Guess what has to be collectively
- 30:24Speaker 3: bargained the World Baseball Classic. Everything they say, hey, so
- 30:28Speaker 3: if they want to move it or whatever, of course,
- 30:31Speaker 3: it's just another chip on the table. If you rob
- 30:33Speaker 3: anver can use and say hey, we'll take this away,
- 30:36Speaker 3: or we'll do this, or we'll do that.
- 30:37Speaker 2: So yeah, it's all bargaining.
- 30:40Speaker 1: It's very frustrating. Yeah, I'm all for evolving and coming
- 30:45Speaker 1: up with new ideas, but this was one where I'm like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait,
- 30:48Speaker 1: it just happened. Just leave it. It worked out perfectly,
- 30:51Speaker 1: leave it alone. So yeah, maybe you guys are right everything.
- 30:53Speaker 1: A lot of times these are lawyers, the leagues run
- 30:55Speaker 1: by lawyers, and so often they're just saying things to
- 30:59Speaker 1: be calculated. Money. Bob Nightingale put out the money. Venezuela
- 31:03Speaker 1: gets a two and a half million dollar bonus and
- 31:07Speaker 1: a total payout of six point seventy five million dollars
- 31:10Speaker 1: for the tournament. He said half of the money goes
- 31:14Speaker 1: to each country's perspective Baseball Federation. The rest gets split
- 31:19Speaker 1: among the players and the staff, so it's kind of
- 31:21Speaker 1: like playoff shares. And then USA was already guaranteed four
- 31:25Speaker 1: point two five million dollars and they will not get
- 31:28Speaker 1: any additional money they didn't win, of course, So that's
- 31:31Speaker 1: what it looks like, he said, with the players and
- 31:33Speaker 1: staff members from the winning team splitting a total of
- 31:35Speaker 1: about three three five million. Talking about Venezuela, it will
- 31:39Speaker 1: provide each player about one hundred and twelve and a
- 31:42Speaker 1: half thousand dollars, and then the coaches and staff members
- 31:46Speaker 1: will be paid out of the federation's pool, so each
- 31:49Speaker 1: player getting about one hundred grand for the tournament. For
- 31:53Speaker 1: the young guys, hey, actually there's some guys on the
- 31:55Speaker 1: roster that aren't even big leaguers yet. That's a pretty
- 31:57Speaker 1: healthy check.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Yep.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Nice, So checking spring training.
- 32:04Speaker 3: I'm bad for two weeks work if you can get it,
- 32:06Speaker 3: or some of them not even two weeks, some of
- 32:07Speaker 3: them four what four games?
- 32:10Speaker 2: Well, it's a nice little cut. I'm sorry. That's nice, I.
- 32:14Speaker 5: Agree, especially better than the envelope that you used to get.
- 32:17Speaker 5: I don't think they get envelopes anymore. I think it's
- 32:20Speaker 5: direct deposit, which is really really boring. Used to get
- 32:23Speaker 5: an envelope every week, every Monday or Tuesday whenever you
- 32:26Speaker 5: started camp, and it would have anywhere from like nine
- 32:30Speaker 5: to fifty to eleven hundred dollars in it, and it's
- 32:34Speaker 5: just nice cash to have hanging around.
- 32:35Speaker 4: Well, one hundred and one hundred and.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Twelve thousand dollars is nice cash to be have hanging
- 32:41Speaker 5: around too.
- 32:44Speaker 1: That's right. And hey, they deserved it. Great, great tournament,
- 32:48Speaker 1: and it was all on Fox one, which is now

- 33:08Speaker 1: go to an NFL writer. His name's Roto Pat so
- 33:13Speaker 1: he probably knows Paul D. Podesta from the Football Days, right,
- 33:17Speaker 1: And he said, it's absolutely stunning. It took this long
- 33:20Speaker 1: for someone to embrace this mindset, but it's absolutely correct.
- 33:23Speaker 1: The guy's name is Patrick Dherty and he posted a
- 33:27Speaker 1: Paul D. Podesta note in an article. It says Deepodesta
- 33:30Speaker 1: wants the Rockies to view playing baseball at eight feet
- 33:33Speaker 1: above sea level as an advantage, not a hindrance. Everything
- 33:36Speaker 1: else should flow off that. He said, we need to
- 33:37Speaker 1: embrace this. This is who we are. I'm sure that
- 33:41Speaker 1: other teams looked at things that way, but still, Kratz.
- 33:45Speaker 1: There's a difference between saying we're going to take this
- 33:47Speaker 1: and use it as an advantage, but then having it
- 33:49Speaker 1: be a disadvantage and acting like it's an advantage.
- 33:52Speaker 4: Right.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I don't think that part is rocket science or brain science.
- 33:57Speaker 1: It's very difficult to play your games in college for
- 34:00Speaker 1: an entire season. I remember dan o Dad, who's a
- 34:02Speaker 1: buddy of mine. They used to do all kinds of
- 34:04Speaker 1: tests and studies and things, and at the end of
- 34:07Speaker 1: the day they were like, stuff.
- 34:10Speaker 4: That's trash.
- 34:11Speaker 5: I'll be honest, that's trash. It's a trash narrative. If
- 34:14Speaker 5: you're that organization, like, you can't. I want you to
- 34:18Speaker 5: be honest to me with to me as a player,
- 34:20Speaker 5: but you also have to create an organizational philosophy. Have
- 34:24Speaker 5: I ever been there for an entire year, ten years, whatever, No,
- 34:29Speaker 5: But I love what Dipodesta said. I love the fact
- 34:32Speaker 5: that a guy who's now taking over the entire organization.
- 34:36Speaker 5: He's not going in the locker room one day and
- 34:38Speaker 5: being like, guys, you gotta change your narrative. You can't
- 34:41Speaker 5: do that. You have to take that narrative and completely
- 34:45Speaker 5: flush it out of the entire system. And the issue
- 34:49Speaker 5: with the Rockies is they've had the exact same guys
- 34:52Speaker 5: saying the exact same things, just in different in different
- 34:56Speaker 5: spot or different name tags on their desk. So yes,
- 35:00Speaker 5: I love that he says this. Are there some difficulties, Yes,
- 35:04Speaker 5: but let's say Recovery's the one I always hear. Oh,
- 35:07Speaker 5: pitchers don't recover too well, So what are we doing
- 35:10Speaker 5: about it? Don't stop like, oh, you know, you just
- 35:13Speaker 5: don't recover quite as well. Okay, Well, anybody injured just
- 35:16Speaker 5: has to leave Colorado and they have to go to
- 35:17Speaker 5: Arizona to heal up because it increases their healing strength
- 35:22Speaker 5: for a few days.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Then that's what you have to do.
- 35:24Speaker 5: But I love it if they can actually change this
- 35:27Speaker 5: narrative and take it as an advantage. Because they don't,
- 35:31Speaker 5: they're going to continue to squalor in the unsuccessful years
- 35:35Speaker 5: that they have right now, or that they have had recently.
- 35:38Speaker 5: But they've had winning in the past, so that's where
- 35:42Speaker 5: you have to lean on and make it an advantage.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Erry Cole pitched in a spring training game. Look at
- 35:53Speaker 1: him go one inning, ten pitches. He's not going to
- 35:58Speaker 1: be ready for the start of the season, not even
- 36:00Speaker 1: close to be exact, but it felt good. Velasidy was
- 36:05Speaker 1: in a good spot and it was against the Red
- 36:07Speaker 1: Sox and you know, no issues. That's step one there.
- 36:12Speaker 1: The return date for him is in May or June.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I have a feeling it'll be like mid to late
- 36:19Speaker 1: May for Garrett. He's going to want to come back.
- 36:24Speaker 1: And the Yankees are missing a few guys to start
- 36:26Speaker 1: the year Rodin, although that should be maybe a few
- 36:28Speaker 1: weeks into the season. They're not getting Clark Schmidt back
- 36:31Speaker 1: until the second half. There's depth though, I mean they've
- 36:33Speaker 1: got Freed, They've got Schlitler, They've got Louise Heal, They've
- 36:36Speaker 1: got Warren, they've got Weathers. There's names, but Garrett Cole
- 36:41Speaker 1: is lurking, and that's a good thing for a Yankees
- 36:44Speaker 1: team that aj won ninety four games last year without
- 36:46Speaker 1: Garrett Cole. Gret Cole hasn't pitched since Game five of
- 36:50Speaker 1: the two twenty twenty four World Series. It's been a minute.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Yeah, they'll be fine. I think the Yankees.
- 36:58Speaker 3: One thing they did this offseason is they did get
- 37:01Speaker 3: some depth with the Weather's trade, and I think they've
- 37:03Speaker 3: I think they'll be fine. They're just waiting for Garrett
- 37:05Speaker 3: Cole to come back. They're waiting for Rodin to come back.
- 37:07Speaker 3: And when that rotation is together, it's a pretty darn
- 37:10Speaker 3: good rotation. If you go free to ro Don Cole,
- 37:14Speaker 3: Heel Schlittler, Clark Schmid, you know, Weathers, wherever the bounce
- 37:19Speaker 3: these guys around, it's a pretty solid rotation for any
- 37:23Speaker 3: Any team would be happy with that rotation.
- 37:24Speaker 4: I'll say that.
- 37:27Speaker 5: Yeah, you just hope they don't get behind in the
- 37:29Speaker 5: beginning of the season here where they sit, you know,
- 37:32Speaker 5: first month. Okay, now you get Rodin back, maybe the
- 37:35Speaker 5: third time through the rotation, because with off days you
- 37:38Speaker 5: can kind of you can you can be fine with
- 37:41Speaker 5: not having that guy. Then where does will Warren go?
- 37:44Speaker 5: Who's how's the health of Weathers gonna be?
- 37:47Speaker 4: To me?
- 37:48Speaker 5: I think Weathers was the perfect pickup based on the
- 37:51Speaker 5: fact that they'll most likely get Clark Schmidt back, most
- 37:53Speaker 5: likely get Garrett Cole, back most like and getting Rodin
- 37:56Speaker 5: back sooner than that, like kind of in waves because
- 38:00Speaker 5: I was kind of like they're a little.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Short to begin the year.
- 38:03Speaker 5: Maybe they need to get somebody and get a big
- 38:06Speaker 5: free agent, and I think that trade has a lot
- 38:09Speaker 5: of high upside. And you hope for Weather's sake, you
- 38:12Speaker 5: know he's ready to go right out the jump here.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Yep, for Cole, it doesn't hurt to see out of
- 38:21Speaker 1: the ten pitches, six or fastballs he topped out at
- 38:23Speaker 1: ninety eight point seven. The thing I'll say aja is
- 38:27Speaker 1: when a guy goes through surgery. It's been a year
- 38:30Speaker 1: and a week since he had the surgery back in
- 38:33Speaker 1: March of twenty twenty five, you want to see him
- 38:35Speaker 1: come back and throwing just as are close to just
- 38:37Speaker 1: as hard as he usually does. Sometimes the control takes
- 38:40Speaker 1: a little bit of time to come back. Maybe I'm
- 38:43Speaker 1: a little less concerned about Garrett Cole since he's really
- 38:45Speaker 1: good in that department, but also he's not a young
- 38:49Speaker 1: pup anymore, So you just want to see that the
- 38:52Speaker 1: recovery looks good and he's going to be a new man,
- 38:54Speaker 1: And it looks like at least the first step of
- 38:57Speaker 1: many was very successful for him.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Yes, and also we had Shane Biebron and he said
- 39:03Speaker 3: it two years. He said that he's been told that
- 39:05Speaker 3: it takes two years. He's in a second year and
- 39:07Speaker 3: so he hopes when he comes back that he is
- 39:10Speaker 3: fully go because I mean, Gark Cole usually it's at
- 39:13Speaker 3: least about eighteen months. Garret Cole's just going to be
- 39:15Speaker 3: back in a little over years. So we'll see. But yes,
- 39:17Speaker 3: Garret Cole is special and his velossity was there, which
- 39:20Speaker 3: is a good sign. But as Bieber told us yesterday,
- 39:23Speaker 3: it's not the velocity, it's the location in the field,
- 39:26Speaker 3: and sometimes it takes a little longer to get back
- 39:28Speaker 3: than people realize.
- 39:30Speaker 5: I was listening to an interview Grek Cole. If you
- 39:32Speaker 5: want to know how Pitcher's feeling, listen to the way
- 39:35Speaker 5: they're talking because normally pictures are like how do you feel,
- 39:37Speaker 5: how's your arm feel? It's good, And he was very honest.
- 39:41Speaker 5: He was like, the velocity is what the velocity is?
- 39:44Speaker 5: He said that that was cool. He said the thing
- 39:46Speaker 5: that surprised him was his location. He felt like the
- 39:51Speaker 5: pen before he pitched in the game, so it would
- 39:54Speaker 5: have been whatever three four days ago, whatever is his
- 39:58Speaker 5: you know, his steps are his location was the best
- 40:02Speaker 5: it had been, and he was like, that is what
- 40:04Speaker 5: that was the most pleasing and satisfying for him, was
- 40:07Speaker 5: that his location was almost pinpoint. He said, it kind
- 40:11Speaker 5: of even surprised me. So that's a good step for
- 40:14Speaker 5: Garrett call too.
- 40:18Speaker 1: For the Yankees. You want him good to go for
- 40:21Speaker 1: I think a season where you need him. It's not
- 40:24Speaker 1: the Yankees, aren't the Dodgers. The Dodgers aj you mentioned
- 40:27Speaker 1: in an earlier part of the show, can kind of
- 40:30Speaker 1: like cruise control and be careful with a Blake Snell
- 40:33Speaker 1: who all of a sudden is probably not going to
- 40:35Speaker 1: pitch until my guess would be May. At this point
- 40:38Speaker 1: that kind of pops up and they do what Krasts
- 40:41Speaker 1: does Shruger shoulders like, all right, guests, we'll win ninety
- 40:45Speaker 1: nine games instead of one oh two, and we'll cruise
- 40:48Speaker 1: into the playoffs. And you just want Blake Snell one
- 40:51Speaker 1: hundred percent in October. Same thing with someone like Tyler
- 40:55Speaker 1: Glass now who's had many injuries in the past. With
- 40:59Speaker 1: the Yanks a little different right that. It's they're a
- 41:02Speaker 1: very good team, but having Garret Cole for most of
- 41:06Speaker 1: the regular season will help in a very competitive division.
- 41:09Speaker 1: There are not many weak spots in the AL East
- 41:11Speaker 1: right now. You could maybe point to the Rays being
- 41:13Speaker 1: a notch below. Besides that, I feel like the four
- 41:16Speaker 1: above them are in a pretty similar place.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Agreed.
- 41:22Speaker 3: Agreed, There's not There's not a lot of room for error,
- 41:24Speaker 3: especially in that division and in the in the AL
- 41:27Speaker 3: in general, because if you look at it, Tigers are
- 41:30Speaker 3: probably the class of the central right, the Guardians always
- 41:33Speaker 3: seem to figure out. And you go to the West,
- 41:34Speaker 3: you got the Mariners, the Astros, and the Rangers all
- 41:37Speaker 3: in the A's. You can probably throw the A's in
- 41:39Speaker 3: there as like teams that are seriously trying to get
- 41:43Speaker 3: to the postseason this year. And then you go to
- 41:45Speaker 3: the AL East, the four teams and the Rays. So
- 41:47Speaker 3: there's not a lot of room to to mess around.
- 41:50Speaker 3: And it could be one game or two. But I
- 41:52Speaker 3: still like the Yankees depth.
- 41:54Speaker 2: I still do.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yep. All right, Well, we'll keep an eye on Garrett
- 42:00Speaker 1: Cole and his progress, because it was just one inning.
- 42:04Speaker 1: He'll very slowly kind of ramp himself up, probably do
- 42:07Speaker 1: some rehab games and that whole deal, and then we'll
- 42:09Speaker 1: see when he comes back, but a big, big game
- 42:12Speaker 1: part of the game, right, Top ten pitcher for a while, now,
- 42:15Speaker 1: top five, top whatever you want to call him. He's
- 42:17Speaker 1: one of the best in baseball, and we haven't seen
- 42:19Speaker 1: him in a minute. So I wanted to just give
- 42:20Speaker 1: everyone an update and also just try and like get
- 42:23Speaker 1: ourselves back into MLB mode and who's heard and who's
- 42:26Speaker 1: ready for the season and all that. We just we
- 42:28Speaker 1: stepped aside for a while because between camps and WBC action,
- 42:32Speaker 1: that just kind of had it all for us. So
- 42:34Speaker 1: just taking a breath, Now, let's swing back. We've got
- 42:37Speaker 1: more to do on FT and we're going to see
- 42:39Speaker 1: what other phillies we can grab. Hot corner also could
- 42:46Speaker 1: have been show me the Money. We are displaying the
- 42:49Speaker 1: top earners in baseball with endorsements included into the fold.
- 42:57Speaker 1: This chart is wild and should tell the story of
- 43:02Speaker 1: how globally sought after shoe Heyo tani is he is
- 43:08Speaker 1: a global phenomenon. Okay, I'm going to make it nice
- 43:11Speaker 1: and simple. Here aj the darker color if that's a green,
- 43:15Speaker 1: whatever it is, shows the salary meter, and the lighter
- 43:19Speaker 1: color the green shows the endorsement money. Sho Heo Tani
- 43:24Speaker 1: is projected to earn one hundred twenty five million dollars
- 43:28Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six from sponsor and memorabilia deals. One
- 43:31Speaker 1: one hundred twenty five million dollars. He is making by
- 43:36Speaker 1: far more than any other major leaguer, And second on
- 43:39Speaker 1: the list is pretty interesting. Cody Bellinger on there. Almost
- 43:43Speaker 1: everyone else on here is majority the darker color because
- 43:47Speaker 1: it's coming from player salary. You see Sodo, Judge, and
- 43:50Speaker 1: Harper are getting some good change. The rest of them,
- 43:53Speaker 1: it's what probably ninety percent plus maybe even more than
- 43:57Speaker 1: that coming from their actual contracts. So when you see
- 44:01Speaker 1: this list and you see this chart, what do you think.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Yeah, show Hey is the greatest thing baseball has going
- 44:08Speaker 3: for right now. You need to take absolute advantage of
- 44:11Speaker 3: it every chance they get, and they're trying to do that.
- 44:14Speaker 2: I mean, we all know this.
- 44:15Speaker 3: This is why the show Hate contract for the Dodgers
- 44:18Speaker 3: was an absolute no brainer and every other team should
- 44:20Speaker 3: have tried to get them, because not only does he
- 44:22Speaker 3: bring in his own money, he brings in money to
- 44:25Speaker 3: the organization, He brings fans and stands, he brings Japanese
- 44:29Speaker 3: eyes and televisions into it. So this just shows what
- 44:32Speaker 3: we all knew, which is, sho hey, Otani is a
- 44:34Speaker 3: unicorn in this game, and we're fortunate to be able
- 44:38Speaker 3: to see him in his priduct.
- 44:40Speaker 4: What a number. One hundred and twenty five million dollars?
- 44:44Speaker 4: What a number? I mean it is.
- 44:47Speaker 5: It is something that, like AJ said, major LYUE Baseball
- 44:50Speaker 5: needs to not take advantage of this, but make sure
- 44:53Speaker 5: that this doesn't pass by pass them by. The Dodgers.
- 44:57Speaker 5: Clearly haven't the Dodgers. I mean people are gonna come play. Well,
- 45:00Speaker 5: there's just another reason the Dodgers. If he's making one
- 45:02Speaker 5: hundred and twenty five million, what are the Dodgers.
- 45:05Speaker 4: Making off of them?
- 45:06Speaker 5: That's the real question, because the Dodgers aren't sitting there going, oh, great,
- 45:10Speaker 5: sho hey, you're fine, make your one twenty five. No,
- 45:13Speaker 5: they're they're getting TV sponsorships. They're getting they're getting sponsorships.
- 45:18Speaker 5: The whole league is getting money because they're games on
- 45:20Speaker 5: the road. Japanese teams want to telecast those games. Well,
- 45:24Speaker 5: the Dodgers don't have access to that. So there's more money.
- 45:27Speaker 5: When you have a superstar, generational will go down as
- 45:31Speaker 5: the best player of all time. Because of the fact
- 45:33Speaker 5: that he can pitch and hit. Major League Baseball is
- 45:37Speaker 5: also profiting.
- 45:38Speaker 4: Off of this.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Hey, last year they had Otani at around one hundred
- 45:45Speaker 1: million dollars from endorsement deals, and they said, here in
- 45:50Speaker 1: what is this Sportico, Yes, Sportico. Three athletes have ever
- 45:59Speaker 1: done that before? Do you guys know who they are?
- 46:01Speaker 1: Did you read the notes that we put in? Or
- 46:04Speaker 1: do you want to play the game? Steph Curry, that's
- 46:09Speaker 1: one I mean talks about this. Lebron has Lebron on here.
- 46:15Speaker 5: Lebron didn't get over one hundred Now, he didn't get
- 46:18Speaker 5: over one hundred million.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Me I feel like I feel like one of the
- 46:21Speaker 3: soccer players, either Messi or Ronaldo would be one of them.
- 46:25Speaker 1: They're not others.
- 46:27Speaker 4: I thought you guys are in the.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Right realm other sports, but not the two that you
- 46:33Speaker 1: just mentioned. Yes, we got Curry, that's the NBA. The
- 46:37Speaker 1: other two are international icons in their respective country club sports.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Oh, Tiger would be like a Tiger Woods or something
- 46:46Speaker 3: like that.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Have to be a Tiger Woods.
- 46:47Speaker 5: Roger Federer because he had his own he had his
- 46:50Speaker 5: own Federer line.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yea, yeah, yeah, Federer and Woods. That's what they
- 46:54Speaker 1: have at least in here, and Tiger is from a
- 46:57Speaker 1: while ago. They said his two thousand and nine endorsement
- 47:00Speaker 1: earnings of one hundred five million was the prior record.
- 47:04Speaker 1: That's a long time ago. He was a pretty big
- 47:08Speaker 1: deal back then.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Hey was the best.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Yeah for Bellinger, by the way, just as far as
- 47:13Speaker 1: how much money you're making between your player contract and
- 47:16Speaker 1: your marketing deals, he's number two at fifty seven point
- 47:19Speaker 1: five million in baseball. That place to the way the
- 47:22Speaker 1: sport is shifting. It's been trying to shift this way
- 47:25Speaker 1: for a while. The big market teams have been trying
- 47:28Speaker 1: to tighten up the length of the deals at times
- 47:32Speaker 1: because they don't want to be trapped in these large,
- 47:34Speaker 1: big contracts. So that's where you saw guys like Bellinger
- 47:37Speaker 1: and Bobaschett, who's relevant today since the Phillies thought they
- 47:41Speaker 1: had him in the bag and the Mets were like,
- 47:42Speaker 1: we'll give you just as much or just about as
- 47:44Speaker 1: much for way less years. And then he goes to
- 47:47Speaker 1: the Mets, like Don Mattingly he was telling us earlier.
- 47:50Speaker 1: All right, one more thing. Sportico putting out the top
- 47:53Speaker 1: five MLB team valuations, some updated numbers there, and the
- 48:00Speaker 1: team that has worked the most in their mind. Yeah,
- 48:02Speaker 1: of course Dodgers Yankees, but it's you would think it's
- 48:05Speaker 1: the way you described it, but it's still the reverse.
- 48:08Speaker 1: The Yankees are still rated higher on valuation nine point
- 48:12Speaker 1: four billion. They've got the Dodgers at nine point zho
- 48:16Speaker 1: five billion.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't see, I can't see who Cubs.
- 48:22Speaker 1: I'll read the rest of you. Well, because the podcast
- 48:24Speaker 1: crab will like this too. Red Sox six point six
- 48:27Speaker 1: five billion, Chicago Cubs six point four eight billion. And
- 48:32Speaker 1: then there's another big drop off. There's like basically two tiers.
- 48:35Speaker 1: You've got the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, Cubs, and then
- 48:37Speaker 1: you go down to the Giants to have a valuation
- 48:40Speaker 1: of four point three six billion.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Well, show the other show the other league's values.
- 48:47Speaker 3: That's why the owners of baseball one a salary cap,
- 48:49Speaker 3: because then their franchise values go up. Yeah, they multiply,
- 48:54Speaker 3: They go up so fast. I mean, it's crazy when
- 48:57Speaker 3: you look at other sports. And that's why a cap,
- 49:00Speaker 3: and that's why owners want a cap is because it
- 49:02Speaker 3: makes their franchise values go up, and then they can
- 49:05Speaker 3: borrow against those franchises to get into other investments that
- 49:09Speaker 3: make more money.
- 49:10Speaker 2: So it's crazy how that works.
- 49:12Speaker 3: And people say, why are baseball teams not worth as
- 49:14Speaker 3: much as other teams? That's the reason, and that's why,
- 49:17Speaker 3: hence why some owners want a salary cap, a hardline cap.
- 49:20Speaker 1: Because.

- 49:29Speaker 5: owners want to make more money off a salary cap system. Unbelievable,
- 49:33Speaker 5: breaking news clip that. Okay, I thought it was because
- 49:37Speaker 5: they all wanted it to be fair and they all
- 49:39Speaker 5: wanted a chance to win a championship.
- 49:41Speaker 4: No, the owners want more money.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Well, if you want to be fair, why wouldn't you

- 49:48Speaker 1: shared have to be spent.
- 49:52Speaker 4: Right fair?
- 49:53Speaker 1: Nope, make it fair, be like cool, Let's give one
- 49:55Speaker 1: hundred mill to all these teams that say they can't
- 49:57Speaker 1: and then they actually have to spend it on the team.
- 49:59Speaker 5: Oh, they we get good players, and there would be
- 50:01Speaker 5: good players on the field, and then everybody's value would
- 50:05Speaker 5: go up.
- 50:07Speaker 4: Don't do it, Scott, don't do it. Don't don't don't
- 50:10Speaker 4: say the common sense things.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Yeah, okay,
