- 0:04Speaker 1: Welcome back to artists on Artists on artists on artists,
- 0:07Speaker 1: stay in the scene. We're talking to method actors.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Method acting is a very specific technique developed in the nineteenth.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Hundreds twentieth century.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Others would say that involves actors specifically committing to their
- 0:26Speaker 2: role beyond just when the camera rolls. And we got
- 0:30Speaker 2: a bunch of those together to talk about process.
- 0:33Speaker 4: So whether you're in character at Crafty or in character
- 0:37Speaker 4: at your home, we have got some people who know
- 0:40Speaker 4: about that.
- 0:42Speaker 5: So Stanislavsky and listening, is there a way we could
- 0:48Speaker 5: do this conversation without the mics? I feel like having
- 0:51Speaker 5: a mic makes me feel like I'm not like actually
- 0:53Speaker 5: genuinely talking to you guys.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you know.
- 0:55Speaker 2: In my method acting process, usually to imagine that the
- 1:00Speaker 2: mic is something else in the world, right, and so
- 1:07Speaker 2: it's like easier.
- 1:08Speaker 3: For me to do.
- 1:09Speaker 5: When do you have a conversation with someone and have
- 1:10Speaker 5: a mic?
- 1:11Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Well exactly.
- 1:12Speaker 2: That's why it's in organic, because if I'm in the
- 1:13Speaker 2: nineteenth century, I wouldn't have a mic. You know, if
- 1:15Speaker 2: I'm bowling, I wouldn't have a mic. So I always
- 1:17Speaker 2: imagine that it's some sort of growth. So if maybe
- 1:20Speaker 2: it's helpful for you to imagine that it's a growth
- 1:23Speaker 2: of your hand.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a growth in my hand. I love that.
- 1:25Speaker 4: And actually I require a microphone because when I shot
- 1:30Speaker 4: this movie ten years ago you made heard of it.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Stand up, when I played Jerry Seinfeld, I was in
- 1:38Speaker 4: method for that role, and so I developed a permanent
- 1:41Speaker 4: need to hold a microphone.
- 1:43Speaker 5: See that is a very specific instance in which this
- 1:46Speaker 5: makes sense.
- 1:46Speaker 6: Yes, yes, exactly, yes, thank you.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Well, so are you able to continue if we don't?
- 1:52Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why I asked. But it seems like it
- 1:55Speaker 5: seems like I can push through. I loved this idea.
- 1:58Speaker 5: I'd love to try on this idea of what it
- 2:00Speaker 5: is like if this mic is a part of my hand. Sure, yes,
- 2:04Speaker 5: and yeah, yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Yes, do whatever feels right, Do whatever feels.
- 2:09Speaker 5: Thank you for checking in. I appreciate holding space for that.
- 2:11Speaker 4: And yeah, well, well this is It's wonderful to be
- 2:17Speaker 4: around so many actors who share.
- 2:20Speaker 6: The same process.
- 2:21Speaker 4: I believe it's it's a testament to our bravery, it's
- 2:25Speaker 4: a testament to our our fortitude, and I believe it's
- 2:31Speaker 4: a testament to our gratitude and our generosity.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I love that. I really love that.
- 2:40Speaker 5: What's so special about this is like to begin to
- 2:43Speaker 5: start to have a conversation is to is to begin
- 2:47Speaker 5: anew exactly. And it's it feels like we're opening it's
- 2:52Speaker 5: a it's a blossom, right.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really nice. And it's nice to be kind
- 2:57Speaker 2: of in a community and a camaraderie because I think
- 3:00Speaker 2: we face a lot of criticism from the rest of
- 3:04Speaker 2: the community.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Usually when it comes to.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Our approach is kind of looked looked upon us as
- 3:11Speaker 1: kind of weird.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I would say sometimes sometimes, but until you dive all
- 3:16Speaker 4: the way in, it's impossible to say that that doesn't work.
- 3:21Speaker 4: It doesn't work. You can't knock it. As Jerry Seinfold
- 3:24Speaker 4: would say, you can't knock it until you've tried it.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yes, yes, that's such a Seinfold thing.
- 3:30Speaker 4: It's it is so and and he's so brave, and
- 3:34Speaker 4: he's so brave and that and and that's such a
- 3:36Speaker 4: signature of what of what the essence of Jerry?
- 3:38Speaker 6: Oh, I miss him?
- 3:40Speaker 3: You miss seeing him exactly.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Oh, I've never met the man.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Well okay, but you miss him inside you.
- 3:45Speaker 6: I miss having him here?
- 3:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Well before we get into that. I think
- 3:49Speaker 3: we should probably get to know each other.
- 3:50Speaker 1: I love Tourse.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Let's get to know each other where we are now.
- 3:54Speaker 3: It's probably so rare for us to even introduce ourselves.
- 3:57Speaker 4: Well really, and maybe you don't have to say if
- 4:02Speaker 4: you don't, well, okay, you kind of do. Is anyone
- 4:05Speaker 4: currently in method right now? It's sort of like if
- 4:08Speaker 4: you're a cop, you have to tell me sure.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Yeah, well I can, Yeah I can. I can attest
- 4:12Speaker 3: to that. I am. I am method right now. But
- 4:15Speaker 3: but it's it's no big deal.
- 4:17Speaker 5: What is the role you're so?
- 4:19Speaker 3: I am playing a like mid thirties.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Kind of oh kind of like like kind of hipster
- 4:28Speaker 2: ish kind of character.
- 4:30Speaker 3: The movie is he's just kind of trying to.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Figure himself out in life and silver Lake and he
- 4:35Speaker 2: works you hard and stuff like that.
- 4:36Speaker 4: But so you, I must say, your method is incredible
- 4:41Speaker 4: because you look exactly like that, and thank you so.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Much, thank you so much. You know it's hard for me.
- 4:46Speaker 2: So I'm having what I like to call kind of
- 4:47Speaker 2: a lucid moment right where where I am talking like myself,
- 4:52Speaker 2: but I'm within a skin, you know, so, so I'm
- 4:55Speaker 2: still in character.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I can't break it because I'm going to set tomorrow.
- 4:58Speaker 5: I was going to ask, are you in the middle
- 4:59Speaker 5: of shooting?
- 5:01Speaker 2: Are you the story I'm shooting tomorrow, and yeah, so
- 5:06Speaker 2: I'm I'm and and we're kind of beginning, so it's
- 5:09Speaker 2: it's it's a big moment.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Are you Are you comfortable saying your real name?
- 5:12Speaker 3: And yeah, character, I can say my real name.
- 5:14Speaker 2: So my character's name is uh, Roderick McDavid, and my
- 5:18Speaker 2: name is Robert de Niro.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And so it's really nice to meet you guys.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Wow.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yeah, well now wow, And I must ask and I
- 5:26Speaker 4: know the answer, but it's hard to tell over audio.
- 5:30Speaker 6: Are you that, Robert?
- 5:31Speaker 3: Yeah, so I am legendary actor.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Very hard to tell over audio. Yeah, not film, though
- 5:36Speaker 1: we can see that it's you, Robert.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Yeah, we can see.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:42Speaker 3: So I'm I'm.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I'm Academy Award winning actor and legend Robert de Niro
- 5:46Speaker 2: originally from New York.
- 5:47Speaker 3: I'm such a New York boy. And please don't make
- 5:51Speaker 3: me do my famous lines.
- 5:52Speaker 6: Congratulations you're in character.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I mean, I'll do them. Are you talking to me?
- 5:56Speaker 3: I'll do them?
- 5:56Speaker 2: You know you got it. You got Robert de Niro
- 5:58Speaker 2: to say it good.
- 6:00Speaker 5: You're interesting because you're doing it as who's your.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Roderick Mcroderick David. Yeah, Roderick McDavid. Yeah, his last name
- 6:07Speaker 2: changes a bunch because that's.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Part of keeps getting married or what.
- 6:12Speaker 7: Well.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he keeps trying to rEFInd himself.
- 6:15Speaker 2: He's kind of a little bit lost and he's trying
- 6:16Speaker 2: to figure himself out and so so that's kind of
- 6:19Speaker 2: what he's up to.
- 6:20Speaker 3: But yeah, it's you know, I have nipples, Greg, can
- 6:22Speaker 3: you mail me? I'll do that line.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Everyone's always asking me, And as Robert de Niro, I
- 6:26Speaker 2: don't like doing the lines, but as Roderick McDavid, I
- 6:29Speaker 2: love it, So it's fine with me, and I'll talk
- 6:31Speaker 2: about anything.
- 6:31Speaker 5: We live in both places. The duality of that, it's
- 6:34Speaker 5: a it's a dual citizenship.
- 6:35Speaker 2: If I may, it is I have two passports, one
- 6:38Speaker 2: as one as Roderick and one is Robert de Niro.
- 6:40Speaker 3: We'll get it.
- 6:41Speaker 4: We'll get yes, yes about the paperwork of method acting,
- 6:45Speaker 4: because we do.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I cannot wait. It's one of my favorite subjects.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Stacks and stacks and stacks of different social security numbers
- 6:54Speaker 4: for different people.
- 6:54Speaker 6: I've played like.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Agents, but silly.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I know it's so funny, but who are you guys?
- 7:01Speaker 3: I spilled the beans?
- 7:03Speaker 1: Oh well, well.
- 7:05Speaker 6: I can go if you I couldn't tell if you
- 7:08Speaker 6: were itching.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Oh no, I'm always itching, always itching, So you go ahead, please.
- 7:16Speaker 3: My buddy al Pacino is always itchy. Go ahead.
- 7:18Speaker 6: Okay, So this is fantastic, this is awesome. Okay, I would.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Say this is awesome, awesome, this is awesome.
- 7:29Speaker 6: Okay, okay.
- 7:34Speaker 4: My name is Cassandra O'Connell and I am a method actress.
- 7:40Speaker 4: I am originally Louisiana by way of London, and I
- 7:45Speaker 4: have played many, many, many people over my career, and
- 7:49Speaker 4: I've developed a type of method acting where I not
- 7:53Speaker 4: only channel the actor that I am performing, I also
- 7:58Speaker 4: channel a director that I would like to work with.
- 8:01Speaker 4: I channel a director to direct the character, and so
- 8:06Speaker 4: I will have these sort of internal conversations between the
- 8:12Speaker 4: the creative mind the director because the main problem I've
- 8:17Speaker 4: found with method acting is that, yes, you're this character,
- 8:21Speaker 4: You're running around. I'm in character as Margaret Thatcher and
- 8:26Speaker 4: I'm making eggs as Margaret Thatcher. But who is there
- 8:30Speaker 4: to tell me how to make the eggs really hard?
- 8:33Speaker 5: So you're being yourself really hard because you're being yourself,
- 8:37Speaker 5: your your core soul, and you're being the soul you're painting.
- 8:41Speaker 7: I e.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Margaret Thatcher in this instance, and a third saw, which
- 8:45Speaker 5: is exactly what a mess.
- 8:47Speaker 6: So that's when I have to channel the Bard.
- 8:49Speaker 4: I often channel Shakespeare. I say, Margaret, try again, try again,
- 8:55Speaker 4: but can you flip them faster?
- 8:58Speaker 1: You very interesting? Go ahead?
- 9:01Speaker 6: Well I am.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Him, So that is exactly how he sounds.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Can I ask?
- 9:06Speaker 5: I mean, I think we've all we've we've we've all
- 9:09Speaker 5: talked about this. It is a very American. Well no,
- 9:12Speaker 5: it's not an American thing, but American actors love method acting,
- 9:16Speaker 5: and a lot of British people think we're just uh,
- 9:20Speaker 5: you know, laying it on thick.
- 9:22Speaker 1: And you must have been so so inspired by Louisiana.
- 9:26Speaker 1: You're by way of Louisiana.
- 9:28Speaker 6: Yes, yes, exactly. Well that's another thing of method acting.
- 9:31Speaker 6: I'm sure this happens to you.
- 9:32Speaker 4: You acquire all these accents and then all of a
- 9:36Speaker 4: sudden you gotta reconcile you are a roller coaster.
- 9:41Speaker 6: Now I'm Toby Keith.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Oh you played, to course.
- 9:45Speaker 4: I played Toby Keith and it was directed by al Pacino.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I know Al love doing that. Al had a great
- 9:52Speaker 3: time doing awesome.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Did you embody for that?
- 9:56Speaker 4: Well, it was directed by al Pacinos. So hey, everybody,
- 10:00Speaker 4: it's Ella Dan. I just want to say Toby Keith
- 10:03Speaker 4: was great to work.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Well, okay, so let me just check it out.
- 10:06Speaker 3: I feel like I'm at Dan Tana's with my buddy
- 10:07Speaker 3: al Pacino. Where's Marty? Matty's right here? Who I am?
- 10:14Speaker 6: Marty?
- 10:14Speaker 4: Direct me when I was when I was playing a
- 10:17Speaker 4: Dumbo for a live action remake of Dumbo and he
- 10:21Speaker 4: was scrapped. Anyway, The point is I have one hundred
- 10:24Speaker 4: and forty five characters in my head that I cycle through,
- 10:28Speaker 4: and it's like Pokemon cards.
- 10:29Speaker 6: Acquire a new one, help you with a new character.
- 10:33Speaker 3: That's really really incredible. That's amazing.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It is my turn.
- 10:41Speaker 3: No one made a joke.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Sorry, no one said anything.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Hello. My name is Edward Boof, Edward Boof, and I
- 10:51Speaker 1: am a method actor. I am uh well, I'm originally well,
- 10:57Speaker 1: I'm originally actually from London at England by.
- 11:01Speaker 6: Way of London.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Yes, and I well, I have studied here now in
- 11:05Speaker 1: America for quite a long time. I've been in America
- 11:10Speaker 1: for so long, which is so fun and so interesting.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I'm not currently in method, but I have had. I
- 11:18Speaker 1: just finished a character, and as you guys know, sometimes
- 11:22Speaker 1: the soul lingers around.
- 11:24Speaker 6: Yes, it's like a hunting Yes.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Yes, and can I just say both? Am I sensing
- 11:29Speaker 2: an umlat on that O? It's it's an umlat Yeah?
- 11:32Speaker 2: The oh you umlat you f oh.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I wasn't expecting that.
- 11:38Speaker 2: It's always fun to see a numla on you because
- 11:40Speaker 2: it's almost like that you kept going. It's what everything
- 11:45Speaker 2: It wasn't over, like it took a break and then
- 11:46Speaker 2: it had one little last player.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You are so funny and so bad.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I know that's they call me the bad boy of
- 11:53Speaker 2: film Kate far Have you guys seen it? I want
- 11:56Speaker 2: to ask you a question.
- 11:57Speaker 5: God, you're in such character so there's a lot of awesome.
- 12:02Speaker 6: Can I just say this is awesome?
- 12:04Speaker 1: Please?
- 12:05Speaker 3: I'm one of you guys.
- 12:06Speaker 5: I just can't believe it. You're so deep in there.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I'm pretty deep in there, but it is me. I
- 12:11Speaker 2: wanted to ask you a question because there is kind
- 12:14Speaker 2: of a I think I'm seeing on the internet.
- 12:18Speaker 3: My wife loves TikTok. She shows it to me all
- 12:20Speaker 3: the time.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Oh, your seventeen year old wife. Eighteen year old wife.
- 12:23Speaker 3: No, she's older than that.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Okay, I should hope.
- 12:26Speaker 3: So my wife is older. My current wife is definitely
- 12:30Speaker 3: older than that.
- 12:30Speaker 8: Sorry, do you want to look that up? I don't
- 12:34Speaker 8: need to look that up. I know for a fact
- 12:36Speaker 8: that Robert's wife is older than so much. Go ahead,
- 12:43Speaker 8: don't make him come out. Okay, Roderick is here.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Okay, but Robert can still fight, Okay, Okay, just be clear.
- 12:52Speaker 2: My question for you is there's there's a kind of
- 12:55Speaker 2: a lot of ardor and there's a lot of mocking
- 12:59Speaker 2: going on on TikTok for people who accidentally stay in
- 13:04Speaker 2: their characters, or you can tell they.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Haven't left it.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You know, I'm thinking of one of my good buddies,
- 13:08Speaker 2: Austin Butler. I'm wondering, is that happening to you or
- 13:11Speaker 2: are you getting Are people saying that you've.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Changed the TikTok has been mean to me? They say
- 13:18Speaker 1: I cannot change my voice now. Before I took on
- 13:22Speaker 1: my last role, which was a Muppet, I.
- 13:27Speaker 6: Was going to say, was it Kermit the Frog?
- 13:31Speaker 1: It wasn't a Kermit, but it was definitely a prominent
- 13:33Speaker 1: muppet they invented a new muppet called Harold Deane and
- 13:37Speaker 1: that's why would you rap on that? I rapped on
- 13:39Speaker 1: him about a year and a half ago. Oh okay,
- 13:42Speaker 1: And so I've been taking voice lessons to try to
- 13:45Speaker 1: get my old voice back, but I just can't seem
- 13:47Speaker 1: to get it back.
- 13:48Speaker 4: This is so interesting, and I hope you don't take
- 13:51Speaker 4: any offense to this, but I feel as though, and
- 13:54Speaker 4: I don't know if you feel this way, the bar
- 13:56Speaker 4: for what you can go method for has significantly lowered. Yes,
- 14:00Speaker 4: you can go method for things that one needn't do, and.
- 14:04Speaker 1: I should be, but I'm not I really should it
- 14:09Speaker 1: does It.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Doesn't a way for me from our our camp, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 2: because I came up and I was early in the
- 14:16Speaker 2: days I was working with Lee Strasburg. I was working
- 14:18Speaker 2: with people at the Actors Playhouse in New York. And
- 14:22Speaker 2: it does kind of feel like people will It's almost
- 14:25Speaker 2: like using fine silverware and fine dining wear to eat
- 14:30Speaker 2: fast food on Like it's like this is a an
- 14:32Speaker 2: honorable method and now people are just kind of using
- 14:35Speaker 2: it for shiite. Great hearing that from Robert de Niros himself, Well,
- 14:39Speaker 2: call them like I see them.
- 14:41Speaker 5: I fear that's a judgment. And I fear that if
- 14:45Speaker 5: the food is good, meet the food meaning the text right,
- 14:49Speaker 5: and the text meaning is so right. So if the
- 14:52Speaker 5: food is good, I think any cutlery of any kind,
- 14:57Speaker 5: which being the process that you bring to that is
- 15:00Speaker 5: where the river meets the road.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, wow, Oh that's sod.
- 15:06Speaker 6: That's just fantastic.
- 15:07Speaker 5: What is your high guys? I am Jewel saucing and
- 15:13Speaker 5: I I have been doing method for the last ten years.
- 15:20Speaker 5: My first method role you probably would recognize me. I
- 15:23Speaker 5: did that commercial you lant liquor.
- 15:28Speaker 6: And pray tell.
- 15:29Speaker 4: What was that advertising?
- 15:33Speaker 1: Just just remind us was right it was?
- 15:37Speaker 3: Who are you calling a cootie queen liquor? Yeah, thank you?
- 15:43Speaker 5: Sorry, I forgot it because she's gone. And when I
- 15:46Speaker 5: when I put that on right now for you to
- 15:47Speaker 5: remember that is me like putting on like a funny hat.
- 15:51Speaker 5: That is not who she was, right, and that girl
- 15:54Speaker 5: I said goodbye to her many years ago, right, and
- 15:57Speaker 5: I have now stepped into it. I'm so great. I've
- 16:00Speaker 5: had so many great mentors in my life and so
- 16:02Speaker 5: many great directors that now I'm working in the feature
- 16:05Speaker 5: space and I'm really grateful for that, but it started.
- 16:08Speaker 5: I want to say I was one of the first,
- 16:10Speaker 5: I think, to bring method acting to commercials and to
- 16:13Speaker 5: bring it to thirty second clips.
- 16:15Speaker 4: And I because you're on set on a commercial for
- 16:19Speaker 4: such a short time. Yeah, probably one to four days
- 16:23Speaker 4: of the maximum.
- 16:24Speaker 5: And I'll tell you can I say I back then,
- 16:28Speaker 5: I don't think I thought you would need to bring
- 16:30Speaker 5: method acting to commercials. But that script was so difficult
- 16:34Speaker 5: for me to crack that I had.
- 16:36Speaker 4: To well, it's so inorganic, right, right, Yes, it's a
- 16:39Speaker 4: little bit fuddling, yes, And I.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Remember I had done like a hot happy Honda Day's
- 16:43Speaker 5: commercial before that, and that was just and that was
- 16:45Speaker 5: me just going you know, like we're just we're just
- 16:47Speaker 5: clocking in and clocking out. I was in like an
- 16:50Speaker 5: awful relationship at the time, and I was just like
- 16:52Speaker 5: I was just throwing shit at a wall, getting my
- 16:54Speaker 5: paycheck and going out, right, And then I get this script, right,
- 16:59Speaker 5: and I'm looking at at it and I'm saying, where
- 17:01Speaker 5: in the hell do I begin? And that's when I
- 17:05Speaker 5: went and I think I have to go back to
- 17:07Speaker 5: what I learned in theater school.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I do have to say art it imitates life because
- 17:12Speaker 2: when I first saw that commercial, I know, I know,
- 17:14Speaker 2: you're playing a completely different character, but I also saw,
- 17:17Speaker 2: I said, this actress, this woman is in an awful
- 17:21Speaker 2: relationship in her life.
- 17:24Speaker 1: You brought and that is half of it. It's the
- 17:26Speaker 1: window into the soul. You could empathize with the character
- 17:30Speaker 1: and that was your grounding point because you were living.
- 17:33Speaker 5: I like to call it a key, a key from
- 17:36Speaker 5: your soul to the next. Right, what is the key
- 17:38Speaker 5: that gets me from jewel into Well.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Let's just for a second, I'd love to jump over
- 17:45Speaker 1: to maybe your most famous work in the commercial space,
- 17:48Speaker 1: when you were the Get Connected for Free girl rapping,
- 17:50Speaker 1: Oh my gosh again, the Get Connected for free for
- 17:54Speaker 1: education connection girl.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I was working for an hourly rage.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I went to high school, didn't do great.
- 18:04Speaker 5: I can't even I don't even remember who she is
- 18:08Speaker 5: because she's because she she's because I will say, as
- 18:11Speaker 5: a method actor, which I'm really interested to talk to
- 18:13Speaker 5: you about, because of course, just me, just you, because we.
- 18:17Speaker 6: Should I was gonna say we should have all, but.
- 18:20Speaker 5: Because I my mental sanity relies on flushing these people away,
- 18:27Speaker 5: I could not go home with any of my roles
- 18:32Speaker 5: once once we wrap, Once we wrap, granted, granted, when
- 18:35Speaker 5: we're in it, I'm living in a different spot now.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Where they when when you wrap, and then you get
- 18:40Speaker 4: an email a week later that says, so sorry, we.
- 18:43Speaker 6: Have to do some pickups.
- 18:44Speaker 5: Then I call the airbnb I stayed at it as
- 18:46Speaker 5: the character, and I say I need to get back
- 18:48Speaker 5: in there. And then I take and I go back
- 18:51Speaker 5: in because we should talk. We should talk how deeply
- 18:53Speaker 5: method because some methods, some method actors are just not
- 18:56Speaker 5: getting out of character when they call cut, and then
- 18:59Speaker 5: some go into deep process weeks before. I do not
- 19:02Speaker 5: live in the home Jewel lives in when I am
- 19:05Speaker 5: playing another role that is huge for me. Where they sleep,
- 19:08Speaker 5: where they lie their bed.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Yeah, for me, when I was in The Irishman, it
- 19:12Speaker 2: was really hard to step away from that because I
- 19:15Speaker 2: was playing this guy his entire life, right, I was
- 19:17Speaker 2: playing this hitman, and it was really challenging. And I
- 19:21Speaker 2: also to play a young guy and then you know,
- 19:23Speaker 2: I haven't been young for seventy years.
- 19:25Speaker 1: But now look at you and yeah, I know, and
- 19:27Speaker 1: so now you're playing thirty.
- 19:28Speaker 3: Well you know, I.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Am so staunchly against Ai. And everyone was saying that
- 19:32Speaker 2: was one of the first big steps for AI, and
- 19:34Speaker 2: I said, well, Bobby d is not going to support
- 19:36Speaker 2: AI from now on.
- 19:37Speaker 3: I said, no more, I'm done.
- 19:39Speaker 2: And so I said, I'm going to get back into it,
- 19:41Speaker 2: and I'm going to get back in the swing, and
- 19:42Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm going to dust off these old boots
- 19:45Speaker 2: and I'm going to get back to using my body
- 19:47Speaker 2: to transform into a different incredible So you know, I
- 19:51Speaker 2: tried that during Dirty Grandpa, and that was easy.
- 19:55Speaker 1: So film, Thank you, thank you.
- 19:58Speaker 3: It was pretty amazing. It was a of it.
- 20:00Speaker 4: It was very prolistical in terms of prolific.
- 20:06Speaker 2: It was a two and a half movie with that concept.
- 20:10Speaker 2: It was prolific. Many were saying it was very long.
- 20:13Speaker 3: It was.
- 20:13Speaker 2: It was really fun and it was And that was
- 20:15Speaker 2: an interesting character getting method because I'm not a dirty grandpa.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I have wonderful grandkids and and.
- 20:20Speaker 1: It was a child, a very young child.
- 20:23Speaker 2: I do have a young child, and it keeps me
- 20:25Speaker 2: young too, And I'm doing this for him. I'm doing
- 20:27Speaker 2: this for him doing you're actually you are thinking of
- 20:30Speaker 2: al Pacino. But I also have a you know you.
- 20:32Speaker 3: Too, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:35Speaker 1: You too, both of you you dogs, dirty dirty old dogs.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And I love you, I really do, Robert. I love you,
- 20:44Speaker 1: but you're a dirty dog. Well, no, Robert might be
- 20:49Speaker 1: wrong with that. Nothing wrong Roderick. It's just trying to
- 20:52Speaker 1: figure himself out.
- 20:54Speaker 4: I feel it feels easier to call you out as
- 20:58Speaker 4: Roderick because you are doing such an amazing job as
- 21:01Speaker 4: Roderick that I feel like I can say to your face,
- 21:04Speaker 4: you're a dirty, disgusting little dog.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Whatever you want to say.
- 21:07Speaker 5: But who's the dog, Roderick or Robert?
- 21:09Speaker 6: And that's what we're answer the question. That's what we're
- 21:12Speaker 6: here to figure out.
- 21:13Speaker 3: I don't think Roderick's a dog. I think he's confused.
- 21:15Speaker 3: I think he's trying his hardest.
- 21:16Speaker 1: And do you think or do you know?
- 21:18Speaker 3: Oh?
- 21:19Speaker 5: I know, I know, But why do you why do
- 21:21Speaker 5: you stop yourself on think you're.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Not gonna get me. You're not gonna get me, and
- 21:25Speaker 3: you're not gonna teach a.
- 21:26Speaker 6: Patrick on the apps.
- 21:28Speaker 5: I'm teaching Roderick. I'm not teaching Robert.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Roderick's on the apps and he just switched his bumble
- 21:33Speaker 2: to be interested in men and women.
- 21:35Speaker 3: That's very inort.
- 21:36Speaker 5: How did Robert how did he build the confidence to
- 21:39Speaker 5: do as How did they build the confidence to do that?
- 21:42Speaker 1: How long did that take?
- 21:44Speaker 2: He went outside a West Hollywood bar and he was
- 21:47Speaker 2: looking at and he was he was like, that can't
- 21:50Speaker 2: be me. He said, but what if there's people like
- 21:52Speaker 2: me that aren't in those bars? And he started looking
- 21:55Speaker 2: kind of online.
- 21:56Speaker 6: This is awesome.
- 22:00Speaker 1: This is awesome.
- 22:01Speaker 4: I have to ask another question, do you, as Robert
- 22:05Speaker 4: de Niro, know how to operate the apps that Roderick
- 22:08Speaker 4: or is that a skill you only know is Rodrick?
- 22:10Speaker 5: Is Robert de Niro get help dealing with the apps.
- 22:13Speaker 5: So when Roderick came over, he flew.
- 22:17Speaker 3: I've never felt older than looking at these apps.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I wasn't even on the apps when I was, you know,
- 22:21Speaker 2: in the seventies and eighties, you know, hanging out the
- 22:23Speaker 2: chateau is easy for me to meet somebody.
- 22:25Speaker 3: So being on these apps was really really hard.
- 22:29Speaker 2: And when you look at the apps on an iPhone
- 22:32Speaker 2: where the font is so large, it's the font takes
- 22:37Speaker 2: up so much that the scroll the sheer amount of
- 22:40Speaker 2: scrolling because there's so much.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Text on these Yes, and.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I have the big iPhone too, it's the Max, and
- 22:49Speaker 2: so the pictures are not even as big as the
- 22:52Speaker 2: font and so it's it gets confusing and a lot
- 22:56Speaker 2: of these these acronyms people are using and all that stuff,
- 23:00Speaker 2: all the pronouns and stuff. I understand pronouns, but it's
- 23:03Speaker 2: very confusing for me. I mean, I'm in my eighties,
- 23:06Speaker 2: you know, so.
- 23:06Speaker 3: It's it's tough.
- 23:07Speaker 5: Wow. Wow.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Anyways, how old are you guys?
- 23:11Speaker 5: In character? That's my question, like being like are you
- 23:15Speaker 5: are you in there before you start rolling?
- 23:19Speaker 3: Like?
- 23:20Speaker 5: What are you in there? Weeks before?
- 23:22Speaker 3: How long?
- 23:22Speaker 1: Well, for me, I would say, I get in character
- 23:26Speaker 1: about it.
- 23:26Speaker 6: Oh, this is just.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Sorry, Yes, this just so I have the voice and
- 23:33Speaker 1: I have the up at arms.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Yeah, the arms went up.
- 23:36Speaker 1: I've been told that sometimes my arms act like they're
- 23:39Speaker 1: being pulled by other people's strings.
- 23:41Speaker 6: I'll do it over here, so you can make this
- 23:42Speaker 6: part of your things.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Can I ask? Can I ask for a quick enough
- 23:45Speaker 3: to move?
- 23:45Speaker 1: It shouldn't be a problem. So you've been told that,
- 23:47Speaker 1: I've been told. I noticed.
- 23:49Speaker 3: So when you're told that, how do you react and
- 23:51Speaker 3: how do you change?
- 23:52Speaker 1: I kind of go oh no, oh, no, whoa who
- 23:56Speaker 1: are you talking about? Okay, so we won't tell you
- 23:59Speaker 1: that it's actually terrible it's painful.
- 24:01Speaker 6: Thing because he did tell you and.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Then yeah, it's okay, no, no, no, it's fine. I'm
- 24:05Speaker 3: just wondering.
- 24:06Speaker 2: It's because it's almost like you're being told, you know
- 24:09Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 24:09Speaker 3: It's like almost like people in your life to bring.
- 24:11Speaker 1: You completely subconscious. Okay, it's completely subconscious completely.
- 24:15Speaker 5: What's so funny about sitting down at the table with
- 24:17Speaker 5: so many other actors? Does I feel like I'm slowly
- 24:19Speaker 5: going what the fuck anyone is saying?
- 24:26Speaker 6: Exactly?
- 24:27Speaker 4: Well, it's so hard to keep track of the conversation
- 24:29Speaker 4: that is constantly.
- 24:30Speaker 6: Happening in your brain.
- 24:31Speaker 4: And to your point, I've developed a system. Usually it
- 24:35Speaker 4: used to well, the industry used to move slower. I
- 24:38Speaker 4: used to have months to get into a character, and
- 24:40Speaker 4: now I've slowed that process down to a quick thirty
- 24:44Speaker 4: seconds seance where I cut out a newspaper clipping of
- 24:47Speaker 4: the picture of.
- 24:48Speaker 6: The man, oh, the woman, all the non.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Binary person, and I light fire to a candle in front,
- 24:56Speaker 4: and I go to another dimension and I turn and
- 25:00Speaker 4: I say, Okay, now I am Barbara Cochran from Shark Tank.
- 25:04Speaker 6: Now I'm Barbara Cochran.
- 25:06Speaker 1: I heard there's a big movie coming up about Barbara
- 25:09Speaker 1: Corkran's life.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Yes, it is about my life.
- 25:11Speaker 3: Is it called baby Shark.
- 25:12Speaker 9: It's called baby Shark because I'm the bad baby of
- 25:16Speaker 9: Shark Tank. I'm delivering deals and I'm delivering them fast.
- 25:20Speaker 9: Barbara Cochran has started a production company and it should edna, thank.
- 25:26Speaker 6: You, thank you for saying that you should. And so
- 25:29Speaker 6: I've been and.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Wow, that's insane. I would love to learn to get out.
- 25:32Speaker 6: It's very fair. You have to learn to be nimble,
- 25:34Speaker 6: you have to learn to be efficient. We all know
- 25:37Speaker 6: the anecdote.
- 25:38Speaker 4: Where what is his name called, not Daniel da Lewis,
- 25:42Speaker 4: but someone else who I have up here and I
- 25:44Speaker 4: have met.
- 25:45Speaker 6: He's gonna kill me when I get out of it
- 25:47Speaker 6: and can remember his name.
- 25:48Speaker 4: But that line where he said, frankly, my boy boy,
- 25:50Speaker 4: why don't you try acting?
- 25:52Speaker 3: So that's Laurence Olivier said that to Dustin Hoffman.
- 25:55Speaker 6: Oh I did say that. That was Laurence Olivier.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Say it gets confusing quick, I did, so I did.
- 26:03Speaker 6: Holding on for dear life.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I think, especially when you talk, I think it's all three.
- 26:11Speaker 6: It's confusing, and it's something that I'm doing. It's confusing.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I'm Dolly Parton, you're doing every biopic imaginable minute.
- 26:21Speaker 3: I didn't want to ask you a question. I want
- 26:22Speaker 3: to go back a little bit.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Who do you want to ask Dolly Parton, Sir Lords Olivier,
- 26:26Speaker 4: Toby Keo.
- 26:27Speaker 3: Or Barbarak and ask you the actor?
- 26:30Speaker 10: Oh?
- 26:30Speaker 3: Okay, great, So I'm glad to know that's who's on deck.
- 26:34Speaker 3: But just a heads So I want to ask you.
- 26:37Speaker 2: You mentioned something where you said he's gonna get mad
- 26:40Speaker 2: at me later if I don't.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Call his name right now.
- 26:44Speaker 2: So I wanted to ask you a little bit about
- 26:46Speaker 2: are there man that man?
- 26:49Speaker 3: And also are there the characters inside of you? Are
- 26:52Speaker 3: they mean to you? Sometimes? Are they critical of you?
- 26:55Speaker 1: Well?
- 26:56Speaker 6: Sometimes they are quite rude to me.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Here's a follow up.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Arry Seinfeldt is brutal to me. He is so brutal.
- 27:05Speaker 4: He keeps observing things comedically about how I brush my teeth.
- 27:10Speaker 4: He says, what's the deal about how you brush your teeth?
- 27:13Speaker 4: You're going at it like a jackhammer.
- 27:15Speaker 1: An absolutely perfect to the.
- 27:19Speaker 6: Points the deal with the toothpaste?
- 27:22Speaker 3: To his point, can you show us how you brush
- 27:23Speaker 3: your teeth?
- 27:24Speaker 4: Okay, Well, I don't understand why this should be such
- 27:27Speaker 4: an issue. I take the toothbrush, I put on the toothpaste,
- 27:30Speaker 4: and then I.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Go and then it's electric.
- 27:44Speaker 1: And then so it becomes so in your head you've
- 27:47Speaker 1: methoded it into electric toothbrush, or it becomes it actually
- 27:51Speaker 1: physically becomes an electric tooth.
- 27:54Speaker 6: Well, I've asked a dentist.
- 27:55Speaker 4: It's because I go so fast that it legally becomes
- 27:59Speaker 4: an electric toothbrush at that point.
- 28:00Speaker 6: Leally, Yes, I've been to court. I've been to you well.
- 28:10Speaker 4: A crest and all those two days. Okay, so they're
- 28:17Speaker 4: suing the people involved in this lawsuit who have been
- 28:19Speaker 4: brushing their teeth this way off, Toby Keith, Me, Cassandra O'Connell,
- 28:23Speaker 4: and Barbara Cochran.
- 28:26Speaker 6: I got out of that one quick.
- 28:28Speaker 3: I don't know how long I can do this.
- 28:32Speaker 7: Now.
- 28:32Speaker 4: What oh you're telling me? I'm the one who have
- 28:34Speaker 4: to live with all these people? Thanksgiving is a nightmare.
- 28:38Speaker 3: How about your show us what Thanksgiving? Well?
- 28:41Speaker 6: I actually have a clip from Thanksgiving?
- 28:43Speaker 1: Thank god you have a clip?
- 28:46Speaker 6: Hey, what's the deal with all these peas on the table?
- 28:49Speaker 6: This is correct.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Have you ever noticed how a pea looks like tiny wsabbi?
- 28:53Speaker 4: But you never you never know when you pick it up.
- 28:56Speaker 1: I think we've got to send her into a home.
- 28:58Speaker 5: Mom, mom, be here, be here right now.
- 29:01Speaker 6: What you want me, Barbara Cochran to be here?
- 29:05Speaker 5: That's not my mom's mom.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Look, my son and my daughter could make a million
- 29:11Speaker 4: dollars today if you just applied yourself, put your money
- 29:14Speaker 4: in a roth.
- 29:15Speaker 1: I ra we want, we want our real mom back,
- 29:19Speaker 1: show us a real mom.
- 29:21Speaker 6: Well, I'm Dolly Parton and I'm here to be your mother.
- 29:25Speaker 6: You are the sweetest girl in the world. You're the
- 29:27Speaker 6: sweetest boy in the world. Think you too are precious.
- 29:30Speaker 5: I'll take it.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Lady.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Why did you film that? Why did you film that?
- 29:35Speaker 3: Why did you bring that?
- 29:36Speaker 5: That would be the saddest clip?
- 29:40Speaker 1: Why did you.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Got it like on a on a flash strick?
- 29:45Speaker 6: Yes, I thought this was the perfect clip. I love
- 29:49Speaker 6: clippable moments.
- 29:50Speaker 5: I will say that that was a clip of method actor.
- 29:53Speaker 5: In the real it was. The cameras aren't really going,
- 29:57Speaker 5: But your life is still going.
- 29:59Speaker 6: Yeah, And I missed my daughter and son so much.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Where are they they They moved to Santa Clarita and
- 30:08Speaker 4: they've they've been no contact.
- 30:11Speaker 3: About twenty minutes out of La but they haven't too far.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Really, I guess thirty makes it baked. You're taking the
- 30:19Speaker 1: two ten.
- 30:19Speaker 4: No, I live in Pasadena far too far to actually
- 30:23Speaker 4: a lot closer.
- 30:24Speaker 1: It's just right up the two tents.
- 30:25Speaker 6: No, you don't understand. I live in every way.
- 30:28Speaker 5: Now you made it better.
- 30:29Speaker 1: That's that's not even the trafficking part of the two
- 30:31Speaker 1: tens either.
- 30:34Speaker 6: No, I mean it's impossible.
- 30:36Speaker 4: I have to get up in the morning, I have
- 30:37Speaker 4: to go to True Food Kitchen and get my salad,
- 30:39Speaker 4: and I'll never make it over to Santa Clarina.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Right that True Food is right near the two ten entrance,
- 30:46Speaker 1: right near Colorado Entrance.
- 30:50Speaker 6: But you go to park. Have you ever tried to
- 30:51Speaker 6: park on Colorado?
- 30:52Speaker 3: Come on, have you ever tried to park in New
- 30:54Speaker 3: York City? I'm dealing with that all the time. But
- 30:56Speaker 3: are you well? No, I mean no.
- 31:00Speaker 2: And Tribeca I don't have to worry about that. I
- 31:04Speaker 2: don't know it's a walking town.
- 31:06Speaker 6: So I have a question.
- 31:07Speaker 4: Has anyone faced any scorn from your fellow actors on
- 31:12Speaker 4: set for your methods?
- 31:13Speaker 3: You have? Yeah, I mean commercial acting isn't ready for
- 31:16Speaker 3: the work you're bringing.
- 31:17Speaker 5: No, And that's why I thank God, I've transitioned out.
- 31:21Speaker 1: What features have you been working on?
- 31:23Speaker 5: I am working on.
- 31:25Speaker 1: I saw one. It was so good. I loved your
- 31:28Speaker 1: work in CROs three where you were in that crocodile
- 31:31Speaker 1: movie CrOx three.
- 31:33Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes, yes, it was the first of its kind.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Yet it's a.
- 31:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 31:41Speaker 5: I'm sorry, I see. That's the crazy part is I
- 31:43Speaker 5: flushed it out. Well, that's such a.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Good strategy of movie making, is you start on the
- 31:48Speaker 4: third so people think it's a.
- 31:50Speaker 6: Successful franchise, and then you work your way back. It's
- 31:52Speaker 6: actually a genius.
- 31:53Speaker 5: Yeah, but it was an incredible movie. We worked with
- 31:56Speaker 5: Steve Irwin's son.
- 31:59Speaker 3: I love Rob and I love Bendy.
- 32:01Speaker 5: Bendy love Bendy.
- 32:02Speaker 3: They're good friends. I've had them over for dinner. Who
- 32:04Speaker 3: has I have Robert n has now Roger doesn't know them.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Roger just has a bunch of people who say they're musicians,
- 32:12Speaker 2: but they just like music.
- 32:15Speaker 5: But I love the feature space because you could stay
- 32:18Speaker 5: in it for longer. And yeah, I was in character
- 32:22Speaker 5: as a crocodile for that.
- 32:24Speaker 6: And did that alter your diet at all?
- 32:27Speaker 5: Yeah? It altered the way I sleep, sleep facing down.
- 32:32Speaker 6: That was the heart to it.
- 32:35Speaker 1: That was the hardest sleeping on your stomach.
- 32:36Speaker 5: It was like, yes, it was. That was the hard
- 32:39Speaker 5: facing down.
- 32:40Speaker 3: For a crocodile? Is it on its back?
- 32:42Speaker 5: So that's facing down as a human. That's facing up.
- 32:45Speaker 8: Now as a human is facing up.
- 32:49Speaker 6: So what's the answer.
- 32:51Speaker 5: That's where the rubber meets the road.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Because like their belly and their eyes are on different
- 32:56Speaker 2: sides of their body, So what's down for them up?
- 33:00Speaker 4: Okay, you know now I do see what you're saying.
- 33:04Speaker 6: I do feel like I am.
- 33:06Speaker 5: I flushed it out.
- 33:07Speaker 1: So what was that method like for you? I mean,
- 33:09Speaker 1: what did you have to take in? What you have
- 33:10Speaker 1: to learn about a crocodile to become one?
- 33:12Speaker 5: Well, I okay, I love talking to a muppet. It's
- 33:18Speaker 5: so fun.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Oh it's not. It's not a muppet, it's me. I.
- 33:24Speaker 5: What I had to do was it was a lot
- 33:26Speaker 5: of submerging in water, right like, and it was trying
- 33:29Speaker 5: to find a place to live in and I found
- 33:32Speaker 5: the place in Echo Park that had a huge pond,
- 33:35Speaker 5: and I I started I started just slowly just checking
- 33:39Speaker 5: my emails in the pond, right just sitting in there,
- 33:41Speaker 5: just just my my bottom half, right, and I was
- 33:44Speaker 5: sitting up like a human, and then slowly but surely,
- 33:47Speaker 5: I'd get lower and lower and I'd just lay down.
- 33:52Speaker 3: That's nice, Yeah, it's nice.
- 33:54Speaker 1: What did you learn?
- 33:55Speaker 5: I mean, what did I learn? I think it's less
- 33:58Speaker 5: about this is where what I think about it method,
- 34:01Speaker 5: It's less about what I'm learning and more just putting
- 34:03Speaker 5: my body there. Did I learn anything different? I don't know.
- 34:07Speaker 5: Does an alligator learn anything? But does he learn anything?
- 34:12Speaker 6: But that's just who he is, that's nature, that's just
- 34:18Speaker 6: who he is.
- 34:19Speaker 5: That is just who he is.
- 34:21Speaker 6: That's so brave.
- 34:22Speaker 3: And we dipped into and that's interesting.
- 34:24Speaker 5: We're dipping in, and the circle of concentration might be
- 34:28Speaker 5: right here, m And that circle of concentration gets bigger
- 34:31Speaker 5: and bigger and bigger, and suddenly I am a crocodile.
- 34:33Speaker 5: I didn't learn anything to be a crocodile. I am
- 34:36Speaker 5: just a crocodile totally.
- 34:38Speaker 4: So as a crocodile, did you ever feel jealous of
- 34:40Speaker 4: maybe more successful crocodiles like lile Lyle crocodile, for example, Well, no,
- 34:45Speaker 4: I went to so.
- 34:46Speaker 5: That movie we wrapped, We wrapped Crock three, and I
- 34:48Speaker 5: went I went to go see it with my niece.
- 34:51Speaker 5: I went to go see Lila Crocodile, and I was
- 34:52Speaker 5: looking at that actor and I was like, and I know,
- 34:54Speaker 5: it's like stop motion. I think animation, yes, And I
- 34:57Speaker 5: was like, where where is the animal? I just heard
- 35:02Speaker 5: you don't see it right? And I was like, this
- 35:04Speaker 5: is this is what happens when you are so deep
- 35:07Speaker 5: in process you see other people who are just dipping
- 35:10Speaker 5: in process, barely in it, and I just called bullshit.
- 35:13Speaker 1: It was a pity. It was devastating. Shawn Mendez didn't
- 35:17Speaker 1: go full method for lyl out.
- 35:19Speaker 5: But here's the thing.
- 35:20Speaker 6: A disrespect.
- 35:21Speaker 1: It's a disrespect.
- 35:23Speaker 5: Since Austin Butler did Elvis, I cannot see any Elvis
- 35:27Speaker 5: impersonator because it just looks so tacky to me. Yet
- 35:31Speaker 5: their work isn't less full of it isn't full of
- 35:34Speaker 5: less integrity. But Austin went there. He went there, So
- 35:38Speaker 5: anyone who doesn't go all the way there, I am
- 35:41Speaker 5: left feeling a gap.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Here's my question, do you guys ever have issues with
- 35:46Speaker 2: when you are method on set other actors or crew
- 35:49Speaker 2: members being frustrated. Jared Letto famously sent boxes of dog
- 35:53Speaker 2: shit to other people on the Suicide Squad. You know,
- 35:56Speaker 2: sometimes you have to use the other people at your disposal,
- 36:00Speaker 2: and that could be a very frustrating thing, you know.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Bradley Cooper was well known for calling Carry Mulligan in
- 36:05Speaker 2: character it's under Bernstein while Kerry Mulligan was putting her
- 36:07Speaker 2: actual child down for bed, and she'd be like, Oh,
- 36:10Speaker 2: I gotta go be Lennard Bernstein's wife for a second.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Excuse me, Marcus Mumford. You know that stuff that Carrie
- 36:15Speaker 2: told me when we were having dinner. So, yeah, do
- 36:19Speaker 2: you guys have issues with that?
- 36:20Speaker 1: So for me, yes, I did. I had a couple issues.
- 36:23Speaker 1: People were very very upset at my antics on set, yeah,
- 36:27Speaker 1: because they thought it was just a little too much.
- 36:30Speaker 1: You know. I got screamed at some of the handlers
- 36:33Speaker 1: of the puppets because I was trying to have full
- 36:36Speaker 1: blown conversations and get to know youse and fights and
- 36:41Speaker 1: drama with a couple of the other puppets. So I
- 36:45Speaker 1: would try to sit down with Miss Piggy and the
- 36:47Speaker 1: handler had to sit with Miss Piggy the whole time
- 36:50Speaker 1: and pretend the Miss Piggy was real.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Can I ask what the role classification was for this
- 36:54Speaker 3: character you played?
- 36:55Speaker 1: So I was you know how. You know how in
- 36:58Speaker 1: the Muppets movie there's usually human. I was the human. Okay,
- 37:02Speaker 1: but in my head it would only be real for
- 37:05Speaker 1: me to make sense of it is if this man
- 37:07Speaker 1: was a muppet.
- 37:08Speaker 6: So you were not a muppet.
- 37:12Speaker 1: I was not cast formally as a muppet. But for me,
- 37:15Speaker 1: the world only made sense if I was a muppet.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Okay, And if you may, can I ask what number
- 37:20Speaker 2: you were on the call sheet?
- 37:22Speaker 1: Yeaes of case? I was eighteen?
- 37:26Speaker 6: Okay, okay, okay, I think I think.
- 37:29Speaker 9: Even a say this.
- 37:31Speaker 4: There has to be regulation on how low you are
- 37:34Speaker 4: on the car sheet.
- 37:35Speaker 6: If you're allowed to be method, what's wrong? You cannot
- 37:37Speaker 6: be method if you are lower than five on the.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Call the limit? Set the limit.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Hey, okay, you guys think it was so easy, peasy,
- 37:45Speaker 1: No way. I was a coffee shop owner and I
- 37:47Speaker 1: had to give Kermit the Frog a coffee. What am
- 37:50Speaker 1: I supposed to do? Just be a man?
- 37:51Speaker 4: No?
- 37:52Speaker 1: I have to be a muppet.
- 37:55Speaker 6: Oh no, this is what Kermit does when he's stressed.
- 38:01Speaker 3: You catcher, we're letting the demons out of Pandora.
- 38:10Speaker 4: She's gonna sell me gum, She's gonna sell me gum
- 38:13Speaker 4: and I've already bought too much gum.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Orbit Did you can? I ask? And you can stay
- 38:18Speaker 3: in character too. Did you meet.
- 38:19Speaker 2: That that very did you meet that very interesting British
- 38:24Speaker 2: woman that was cleaned that daddy mouth that was in
- 38:26Speaker 2: those commercials?
- 38:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 38:27Speaker 5: I know she was a wonderful woman.
- 38:28Speaker 3: Awesome, amazing.
- 38:32Speaker 6: Oh, I'm so sorry to me to uncovered.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Let's talk about this.
- 38:36Speaker 5: Let's talk about sex as a method actors.
- 38:39Speaker 4: Oh, that is actually a gray area.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Because you.
- 38:44Speaker 6: Because you don't know who you're having sex with.
- 38:47Speaker 5: Okay, and her and I hooked up and I was liquor.
- 38:53Speaker 5: I was in there, yeah, and she was and she
- 38:56Speaker 5: was orbit Orbit.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't.
- 38:59Speaker 5: Even talk about It's like I don't remember the commercial
- 39:01Speaker 5: because I flushed it away. But what was interesting was
- 39:04Speaker 5: when we came back, I was like, Wow, would Jewel
- 39:07Speaker 5: look up with her?
- 39:09Speaker 6: Would she would?
- 39:10Speaker 4: She?
- 39:10Speaker 1: I did?
- 39:12Speaker 5: I am Jewel right, and Jewel is there? And I
- 39:15Speaker 5: wanted to do that, yes, but in character, I wanted
- 39:18Speaker 5: to do it more.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Now, when you played the mucinex germ blob, because that
- 39:22Speaker 4: was you correct.
- 39:23Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes, I was in prosthetics for three months.
- 39:27Speaker 6: Yes, that was all three d it was all real.
- 39:30Speaker 3: How many days of shooting?
- 39:32Speaker 6: Half day.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Point five point five days of shooting?
- 39:40Speaker 5: Said, we just need a six, not a full twelve.
- 39:43Speaker 1: So that's fine for you guys, right, but me, that's
- 39:48Speaker 1: a problem for you.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Oh well, well that's that's the that's the money shot, baby,
- 39:53Speaker 2: that's number one. How many lines did you have?
- 39:55Speaker 1: I had three lines? Yeah, that's okay, that's wrong with it.
- 39:59Speaker 5: A I stop of the call sheet.
- 40:01Speaker 4: That's a spokesperson, that's a recurring There's going to be
- 40:04Speaker 4: many many spots for that one campaigned.
- 40:07Speaker 5: I did at least fifty spots in that one and
- 40:09Speaker 5: half day.
- 40:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, look, we had the the.
- 40:12Speaker 6: You're also fast. I had congratulations on that.
- 40:15Speaker 5: I mean I would be like musin X and then
- 40:16Speaker 5: we callcott. They'd hit me a Santa hat. We did
- 40:19Speaker 5: the holiday spot that.
- 40:22Speaker 1: I don't think they understand that I was man for
- 40:28Speaker 1: more than just a man in a hand. So can
- 40:33Speaker 1: I ask a muppet?
- 40:34Speaker 3: Did you so that's that?
- 40:35Speaker 4: Oh so you're the man in the hand of the Muppets.
- 40:38Speaker 3: That's the song from the Muppet movie right.
- 40:42Speaker 1: With with that was just a little freestyle, okay. The
- 40:45Speaker 1: song in the hand the muppet is am I a man?
- 40:49Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, okay, yes, ah my, So.
- 40:53Speaker 3: That was your kind of rights free take on.
- 40:55Speaker 4: It incredible, Thank you for doing it right free.
- 40:58Speaker 5: So ask you, how does Dolly Barton have sex versus
- 41:01Speaker 5: Barbara Cochran.
- 41:03Speaker 4: Well, Dolly has it more sweet and simple, sweet and simple,
- 41:08Speaker 4: nothing funny, nothing, nothing, nothing too.
- 41:11Speaker 6: Out of the woodwork.
- 41:12Speaker 4: And I don't feel too good about, uh, you know,
- 41:16Speaker 4: just playing.
- 41:17Speaker 6: All my nasty little secrets.
- 41:18Speaker 4: But let's just say I am a dog in the bedroom.
- 41:23Speaker 6: But Barbra, Now, Barbara likes something fucked up.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Barbara likes it upside down, and she doesn't know who's
- 41:32Speaker 4: doing it. Barbara in the sets that in the sets
- 41:41Speaker 4: that my husband wears a blindfold and a cape and
- 41:44Speaker 4: a mask.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Who is he?
- 41:46Speaker 6: Well, he's cheap.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Guy, so he can't see.
- 41:54Speaker 4: He's talk about everything forehand, it's all okay, is it
- 42:01Speaker 4: like a halloween mask?
- 42:02Speaker 3: And you take it off and he's blindfolded under it.
- 42:06Speaker 4: So we don't want to take any chances because you
- 42:09Speaker 4: don't know who he is.
- 42:10Speaker 6: I really don't like to know the identity of my husband.
- 42:12Speaker 6: It's sort of it's sort of it's something for me, so.
- 42:15Speaker 4: I put the mask on as sort of an insurance
- 42:18Speaker 4: policy in case the mask. You know how cheap these
- 42:20Speaker 4: Halloween masks are. They fly right off if you go
- 42:22Speaker 4: upside down, which we are. So it's it's just in case.
- 42:27Speaker 4: But the person she's having sex with is my husband,
- 42:31Speaker 4: uh Denared O'Connor, and and that's not that's not I'm
- 42:41Speaker 4: I'm not saying anything about Shinead O'Connor.
- 42:47Speaker 2: We didn't think that your husband's name was a comment
- 42:49Speaker 2: on Shonado O'Connor.
- 42:51Speaker 3: We were taking it as truth.
- 42:52Speaker 4: I guess this all the time, and I just want
- 42:55Speaker 4: to get out in front of it.
- 42:56Speaker 6: He's not making a comment on Shinado O'Connor.
- 42:59Speaker 3: That just is his Can I say?
- 43:00Speaker 1: It just sounds more like your sex life is a channels,
- 43:03Speaker 1: not anything to do with your method, you know what.
- 43:04Speaker 5: I take personal responsibility for asking you this. You were
- 43:07Speaker 5: telling you were telling me how you brush your teeth,
- 43:09Speaker 5: and I was like, I want to know more.
- 43:11Speaker 1: This is wrong. This is wrong for me. I forget
- 43:15Speaker 1: for me. Sex is a method actor is really tough
- 43:19Speaker 1: for me as a muppet. Muppet method actor, it's been difficult.
- 43:24Speaker 6: So you don't have genitals if you're a muppet.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Because you don't have genitals. You're a muppet. So where
- 43:30Speaker 1: do I find the middle ground? And since ending my
- 43:34Speaker 1: role has a muppet two years ago, I have had difficulty, difficulty,
- 43:42Speaker 1: difficulty figuring it out. How it's going to work with
- 43:44Speaker 1: my sex life, with my beautiful, beautiful, beautiful girl friend.
- 43:47Speaker 5: Okay, this was two years ago and you're eighteenth on
- 43:50Speaker 5: the call sheet.
- 43:51Speaker 6: Why are you.
- 43:51Speaker 5: Still in character?
- 43:52Speaker 1: I can't let it go?
- 43:54Speaker 6: And how do you make money?
- 43:55Speaker 1: I don't. So my dad runs a military complex.
- 44:04Speaker 3: Hold on a minute, Hold on a minute. On that one.
- 44:07Speaker 2: There's the rub a military So a military complex is
- 44:10Speaker 2: an idea?
- 44:10Speaker 3: Does he run the idea?
- 44:11Speaker 2: Or does or did he open a business called the
- 44:14Speaker 2: military complex, which is a target like a.
- 44:17Speaker 6: Coffee shop slash wine bar gets past.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Nothing gets past Bobby d I'll tell you that.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Very interesting question. He runs a military complex. So what
- 44:25Speaker 1: that means is he actually is rich enough to own
- 44:28Speaker 1: his own kind of army paramilitary.
- 44:31Speaker 6: He's got a militia.
- 44:33Speaker 1: He's got a militia and he holds him in a complex.
- 44:36Speaker 3: And it's a for profit militia.
- 44:38Speaker 1: It's a it's making a martally nonprofit Okay, it's a nonprofit,
- 44:43Speaker 1: non for profit, not for profit. Okay, do the paper.
- 44:48Speaker 3: So you're doing you're doing pro bono war.
- 44:51Speaker 4: War to anyone who needs you. Oh you need some soldiers. Well,
- 44:56Speaker 4: we're an extra military force. We are not assigned to government.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Will do whatever. So yes, that's how I survive. Okay, so,
- 45:08Speaker 4: but so that might be problem.
- 45:10Speaker 1: I'm just looking for the next role that's gonna bump
- 45:12Speaker 1: me out of being a little bit of a muppet.
- 45:13Speaker 5: Oh so you think you can't go back to who
- 45:16Speaker 5: you are by yourself, You have to wait for the
- 45:19Speaker 5: next role.
- 45:20Speaker 1: I'm hoping that whatever the next role comes, I can
- 45:23Speaker 1: bump out of being a muppet and find myself again.
- 45:28Speaker 5: Dream.
- 45:29Speaker 6: Yeah, what's your dream role?
- 45:30Speaker 10: I would love something juicy, something ancient. Something I'm thinking
- 45:36Speaker 10: Moses or or or Jesus or something like that.
- 45:40Speaker 2: So that's gonna be It's it's probably a big walk
- 45:43Speaker 2: from where you are now.
- 45:44Speaker 1: I think they're very similar.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Can I give you some advice?
- 45:47Speaker 2: I'm just an actor, right, I mean, I'm Robert de Niro,
- 45:49Speaker 2: But I'll give you a little bit.
- 45:50Speaker 1: And this is awesome that we got assist called this
- 45:53Speaker 1: is awesome.
- 45:53Speaker 3: And I'm glad we talked about what we did with
- 45:55Speaker 3: me Robert de Niro in the room.
- 45:59Speaker 2: What I will say is, you know, when I was
- 46:04Speaker 2: in Raging Bull, I got really into boxing. Right when
- 46:07Speaker 2: I was in Godfather Too, I got really into Italian food,
- 46:09Speaker 2: and I kept those parts of me and I allowed
- 46:12Speaker 2: myself to say, oh, I like this thing, and I'm
- 46:14Speaker 2: going to move forward with these things. So I think
- 46:18Speaker 2: you can recognize there's something in you that likes being
- 46:21Speaker 2: a muppet, and then you can let that be part
- 46:23Speaker 2: of it and maybe let it out at at certain moments.
- 46:25Speaker 2: But it doesn't have to be your whole life, and
- 46:28Speaker 2: you can get back to your normal life.
- 46:30Speaker 6: Yeah, oh, oh it's happening. Oh, get there.
- 46:35Speaker 2: And before we meet who he actually is, I do
- 46:38Speaker 2: want to say sometimes you got to be careful because
- 46:39Speaker 2: you don't know who they are.
- 46:41Speaker 4: Yeah, any anything we want to say before before.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Before he goes. I like, I liked your spirit. I
- 46:48Speaker 3: did like it, didn't want it.
- 46:51Speaker 5: It just like that she said, you haven't been.
- 46:53Speaker 3: Able to do it for two years.
- 46:57Speaker 4: I think I should go no contact with your father.
- 47:00Speaker 4: You can talk to my children if you want. Apparently
- 47:01Speaker 4: it's quite easy.
- 47:04Speaker 3: So this isn't what I meant. Go ahead. I meant
- 47:08Speaker 3: just like, let that be part of you. It sounds
- 47:10Speaker 3: like it seems like it's being expelled from your body.
- 47:17Speaker 6: Hello, Oh shit, who's this?
- 47:21Speaker 1: Shit? Oh shit?
- 47:23Speaker 5: Who are you?
- 47:24Speaker 1: I am blank? I am nothing, I am ready?
- 47:31Speaker 5: Oh no, do you guys have an episode? O?
- 47:36Speaker 8: Folks?
- 47:37Speaker 4: I feel like this all the time. Hi, I'm President
- 47:39Speaker 4: Joe Biden. We gotta and we gotta get this country together.
- 47:44Speaker 4: We gotta get this country together and everything.
- 47:47Speaker 6: Ye, your folks, you got it. There's solving. There's one
- 47:49Speaker 6: hundred and sixty eight thousand people on his table, and
- 47:51Speaker 6: we gotta get them together.
- 47:53Speaker 3: Can I ask you? Is there anyone else who wants
- 47:55Speaker 3: to come say hi? Before we go?
- 47:58Speaker 4: Wella, let me let me think back of the recesses
- 48:02Speaker 4: of my brain.
- 48:03Speaker 3: I know there's one hundred and fifty in there.
- 48:05Speaker 4: Okay, okay, who is that?
- 48:12Speaker 1: It's a brand new person. We heard that person?
- 48:16Speaker 6: Uh yeah, uh yeah. I'm Benny Saftie.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Oh my god, I just kind of.
- 48:22Speaker 6: Talk like this. I just kind of talk like a
- 48:24Speaker 6: normal guy.
- 48:24Speaker 4: And I'm Alreadyana Kandy, and I'm in a little sweatshirt.
- 48:28Speaker 5: I don't buy that one that one just really just
- 48:35Speaker 5: smacked me in the face.
- 48:36Speaker 4: And I'm Lisa Barlow from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
- 48:41Speaker 5: Sickly seem gets carpet clean there.
- 48:46Speaker 1: So it's all coming out now, Robert.
