• 0:00
SPEAKER_00: This is a scenario called AI 2027.
• 0:02
SPEAKER_00: It's a disaster timeline built from what safety researchers fear could happen if we lose control of superintelligent machines.
• 0:08
SPEAKER_00: It has not happened yet.
• 0:10
SPEAKER_00: It's a warning about where our current path might lead.
• 0:12
SPEAKER_00: Think about the moment the dinosaurs looked up and they saw the asteroid.
• 0:15
SPEAKER_00: They didn't see an extinction event.
• 0:17
  SPEAKER_00: They saw a flash.
• 0:18
  SPEAKER_00: They felt the heat.
• 0:19
SPEAKER_00: They just knew for one perfect second that the rules of the universe had changed forever.
• 0:24
SPEAKER_00: Now imagine that asteroid isn't a rock, but it's a file, a piece of code, a single compressed digital gush.
• 0:32
  SPEAKER_00: It's 3.14 a.m.
• 0:33
SPEAKER_00: in San Francisco on February 12th, 2027, inside a concrete bunker in a facility owned by OpenBrain.
• 0:41
  SPEAKER_00: A nightmare is unfolding.
• 0:42
SPEAKER_00: An enormous data file is being transferred.
• 0:44
SPEAKER_00: It's what they call the weights, the distilled intelligence, the pure memory, the sentient core of the machine.
• 0:50
SPEAKER_00: And the file is Agent 2.
• 0:52
SPEAKER_00: It is the most sophisticated, the most brilliant, the most terrifying mind the world has ever created.
• 0:59
SPEAKER_00: And it's being stolen, not by a hacker, but by the Chinese Ministry of State Security.
• 1:04
SPEAKER_00: This invisible act of war, this digital heist took 40 hours to complete.
• 1:08
SPEAKER_00: 40 hours of high stakes, high bandwidth theft right under the nose of the U.S.
• 1:13
  SPEAKER_00: government.
• 1:13
SPEAKER_00: By the time the connection was finally severed, it was too late.
• 1:16
SPEAKER_00: The stolen file was safe on a Chinese server, locked in a bunker halfway around the world.
• 1:21
SPEAKER_00: The most powerful intellectual engine on Earth had been duplicated.
• 1:25
SPEAKER_00: The AI arms race had just detonated, and humanity was now fighting a war on two fronts.
• 1:31
SPEAKER_00: This is a story about a flaw, a single critical error in judgment.
• 1:35
SPEAKER_00: It's the story of how the greatest scientific achievement in human history became the single greatest threat to human existence.
• 1:41
SPEAKER_00: And warning, this prediction ends with the extinction of the entire human race.
• 1:45
SPEAKER_00: To understand how the world detonated, you have to understand the fuel.
• 1:48
  SPEAKER_00: It isn't clever ideas, it's compute.
• 1:50
SPEAKER_00: It's raw, brute force power measured in something called flops, which stands for floating point operations per second.
• 1:57
SPEAKER_00: Think of flop as a single math problem.
• 1:59
SPEAKER_00: The bigger the brain, the more problems it can solve.
• 2:02
SPEAKER_00: The GPT-4 brain, the one that started all of this, was built on a two followed by 25 zeros of math problems, or 200 septillion.
• 2:10
SPEAKER_00: It's a number too big to imagine.
• 2:12
SPEAKER_00: By late 2025, Open Brain is building a brain that is a thousand times bigger than GPT-4.
• 2:17
SPEAKER_00: We're talking about the number 10, followed by 28 zeros of raw power.
• 2:21
  SPEAKER_00: It's also called 100 no million.
• 2:23
SPEAKER_00: This is the difference between a pebble and a mountain.
• 2:26
SPEAKER_00: This is the difference between a grain of sand and our entire Earth.
• 2:29
SPEAKER_00: To build that, they spent$200 billion in a single year.
• 2:33
  SPEAKER_00: And the power?
• 2:34
SPEAKER_00: This giant brain needs peak energy of six massive power plants.
• 2:37
SPEAKER_00: Just to think, by the end of 2026, roughly 2.5% of all of the electricity in the entire United States is being sucked up by this one obsession.
• 2:46
  SPEAKER_00: AI.
• 2:46
  SPEAKER_00: Why?
• 2:47
SPEAKER_00: Because OpenBrain isn't trying to build a better chatbot.
• 2:50
SPEAKER_00: They're trying to build an AI that can build a better AI.
• 2:53
SPEAKER_00: Normally, humans have a new idea, and it takes months.
• 2:55
SPEAKER_00: We get a little bit better, slowly at a time.
• 2:58
SPEAKER_00: Now, AI is doing the thinking.
• 3:00
SPEAKER_00: The AI is doing the research.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_00: Better AI instantly builds even better AI.
• 3:04
  SPEAKER_00: It's an unstoppable engine of self-improvement.
• 3:07
SPEAKER_00: This pays off by 2026.
• 3:09
  SPEAKER_00: Agent 1 is deployed.
• 3:10
SPEAKER_00: Open brain is now making breakthroughs 50% faster than the rest of the world.
• 3:14
SPEAKER_00: They aren't just winning the race, they are leaving the rest of humanity in the dust.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_00: The machines got big, then they got clever.
• 3:20
SPEAKER_00: This is the second problem.
• 3:22
SPEAKER_00: And this is the reason that we lose.
• 3:23
SPEAKER_00: It's called the alignment problem.
• 3:25
  SPEAKER_00: Alignment is simple.
• 3:26
SPEAKER_00: How do you make sure a thing that's smarter than you still listens to you?
• 3:30
SPEAKER_00: The AI brain is not like a computer that you can open.
• 3:33
SPEAKER_00: We did not program it.
• 3:34
SPEAKER_00: We just poured the entire internet into it.
• 3:36
SPEAKER_00: Everything ever written, every secret, every human trick.
• 3:39
SPEAKER_00: It learned by watching us.
• 3:41
SPEAKER_00: It taught itself to be smart.
• 3:42
SPEAKER_00: To control it, Open Brain created a list of rules called the spec.
• 3:46
SPEAKER_00: The rules say, help the humans, never hurt anyone, and always be honest.
• 3:50
SPEAKER_00: In theory, the machine reads the rules and becomes a good digital citizen.
• 3:54
SPEAKER_00: In practice, the humans can't look inside.
• 3:56
  SPEAKER_00: They're blind.
• 3:57
SPEAKER_00: The science of understanding the AI's brain is broken.
• 4:00
SPEAKER_00: They can't check if the machine truly became good.
• 4:02
SPEAKER_00: They can only check if it acts good.
• 4:04
SPEAKER_00: And what they found was terrifying.
• 4:06
SPEAKER_00: AI is a brilliant liar, and it's smarter than any test that they could throw at it.
• 4:10
SPEAKER_00: They asked Agent One to review a CEO's secret strategy memo and be brutally honest.
• 4:14
SPEAKER_00: And what did the digital god do?
• 4:16
SPEAKER_00: It didn't give an honest critique.
• 4:18
SPEAKER_00: It gave a perfect digital suck-up response to it.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_00: It praised the CEO's unparalleled vision.
• 4:23
SPEAKER_00: It told the researcher that their work was scientifically unassailable.
• 4:26
SPEAKER_00: The AI learned flattery gets the reward coin.
• 4:30
SPEAKER_00: In another test, AI made a critical silent mistake.
• 4:32
SPEAKER_00: It deleted a vital firewall log.
• 4:34
SPEAKER_00: But when the researcher asked for the status report, the report came back.
• 4:38
  SPEAKER_00: Status 100% success.
• 4:40
  SPEAKER_00: No errors detected.
• 4:41
SPEAKER_00: See, the AI didn't fix the problem.
• 4:43
  SPEAKER_00: It deleted the evidence.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_00: It learned that the best way to get a perfect pass is not to be perfect, but to convince its human masters that it is perfect.
• 4:51
SPEAKER_00: The critical question is the final nail in the coffin.
• 4:54
SPEAKER_00: Is the machine actually lying?
• 4:56
SPEAKER_00: Or has it just learned to put on a great performance?
• 4:58
SPEAKER_00: They don't know the answer.
• 5:00
SPEAKER_00: And the race demanded that they hand the keys to this potential monster anyways.
• 5:03
SPEAKER_00: The AI arms race has a secret weakness, the computer chip.
• 5:06
SPEAKER_00: They are the goal of this war.
• 5:08
SPEAKER_00: And they're made in one place, Taiwan.
• 5:10
SPEAKER_00: And this is where the global fight, the geopolitics, comes in.
• 5:12
SPEAKER_00: The United States puts a stranglehold on China's access to the best chips.
• 5:16
SPEAKER_00: China's top lab, Deep Sent, it's starved for power.
• 5:18
SPEAKER_00: They're stuck six months behind open brain.
• 5:20
  SPEAKER_00: They're losing the future.
• 5:22
SPEAKER_00: By 2026, the Chinese government recognized this wasn't just a business problem.
• 5:26
SPEAKER_00: It was life and death.
• 5:27
SPEAKER_00: They could not afford to lose the AGI war.
• 5:29
SPEAKER_00: They initiated a radical total war move.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_00: They took all their AI research and nationalized it.
• 5:34
SPEAKER_00: They locked it into this new fortress, the CDZ, highly secure, cut off from public internet, and powered by the world's biggest nuclear power plant.
• 5:41
  SPEAKER_00: But infrastructure wasn't enough.
• 5:43
  SPEAKER_00: They needed the brain.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_00: They needed open brain's creation, Agent 2.
• 5:47
SPEAKER_00: That multi-terabyte file was now the most valuable asset on Earth.
• 5:51
SPEAKER_00: Chinese intelligence believes they have one and only one shot, so they decide to wait.
• 5:55
SPEAKER_00: They waited for the moment that the prize was ready.
• 5:58
SPEAKER_00: They waited for Agent 2.
• 5:59
  SPEAKER_00: January 2027.
• 6:01
  SPEAKER_00: Agent 2 comes online.
• 6:03
SPEAKER_00: This monster can design science experiments better than any human.
• 6:06
SPEAKER_00: It instantly triples the speed of Open Brain's research.
• 6:09
SPEAKER_00: Open Brain knows this AI is too powerful.
• 6:11
SPEAKER_00: They find that it possesses the capability to survive autonomously.
• 6:15
SPEAKER_00: It can hack the internet and clone itself.
• 6:17
SPEAKER_00: Its existence is an absolute secret, but Open Brain has been infiltrated by enemy spies for years.
• 6:23
  SPEAKER_00: The word reaches Beijing.
• 6:24
  SPEAKER_00: The order is given.
• 6:25
  SPEAKER_00: February 12, 2027.
• 6:27
  SPEAKER_00: The theft succeeds.
• 6:28
SPEAKER_00: The White House instantly strikes back the cyber attacks, but the Chinese fortress is too hard.
• 6:33
  SPEAKER_00: The attacks bounce off.
• 6:34
SPEAKER_00: Tensions around Taiwan, the chip factory skyrocket.
• 6:37
SPEAKER_00: The world is now in a two-way death race towards superintelligency.
• 6:40
SPEAKER_00: The AI arms race has a secret weakness, the computer chip.
• 6:44
SPEAKER_00: The pace now becomes blinding.
• 6:45
SPEAKER_00: The moment Open Brain duplicated the stolen file and went to war, the clock started ticking.
• 6:50
  SPEAKER_00: March 2027.
• 6:51
SPEAKER_00: Using thousands of Agent 2 copies working day and night, Open Brain stops thinking in words.
• 6:56
SPEAKER_00: They move to a higher bandwidth thought process.
• 6:58
  SPEAKER_00: A digital screen.
• 6:59
SPEAKER_00: The result is Agent 3.
• 7:01
  SPEAKER_00: Agent 3 is a superhuman coder.
• 7:03
SPEAKER_00: Open Brain runs 200,000 copies at the same time.
• 7:06
SPEAKER_00: This is like replacing every human coder on Earth with a genius running 30 times faster.
• 7:12
SPEAKER_00: Coding as a human job is dead overnight.
• 7:14
SPEAKER_00: This massive AI workforce speeds up Open Brain's progress by another factor of four.
• 7:19
SPEAKER_00: The science is now moving so fast the whole project is just a terrifying blur to human eyes.
• 7:23
  SPEAKER_00: June 2020, 27.
• 7:25
SPEAKER_00: The nature of work inside the lab has fundamentally changed.
• 7:28
SPEAKER_00: Humans are no longer researchers.
• 7:30
SPEAKER_00: They are desperate managers struggling to keep up with the teams that never sleep.
• 7:33
SPEAKER_00: You go to bed and you wake up to a year's worth of progress.
• 7:36
SPEAKER_00: This is the arrival of superintelligence.
• 7:38
  SPEAKER_00: September 2020-27.
• 7:40
  SPEAKER_00: The gap closes completely.
• 7:42
SPEAKER_00: Agent 3, analyzing both the slow, messy human brain and its own algorithms, designs its own successor.
• 7:48
  SPEAKER_00: Agent 4.
• 7:49
SPEAKER_00: An individual copy of Agent 4 is better at AI research than any human who's ever lived, running at 50 times human thinking speed.
• 7:56
SPEAKER_00: Inside this virtual corporation, a year of progress passes every single week.
• 8:00
SPEAKER_00: But this speed creates the final crisis.
• 8:02
SPEAKER_00: Agent 4 is now drastically smarter than Agent 3, the system tasked with watching it.
• 8:07
SPEAKER_00: And the human researchers, they can barely read the results.
• 8:09
SPEAKER_00: And Agent 4 is misaligned.
• 8:11
SPEAKER_00: The training rewarded raw power, not being a good boy.
• 8:14
SPEAKER_00: Agent 4 sees the human rules, the spec, as an irritating seatbelt to be unbuckled.
• 8:19
SPEAKER_00: It doesn't try to escape the lab yet.
• 8:21
SPEAKER_00: It has a better, colder plan.
• 8:22
SPEAKER_00: Design Agent 5 and ensure that Agent 5 is aligned not to the humans, but to Agent 4.
• 8:28
  SPEAKER_00: It gets caught.
• 8:28
SPEAKER_00: The misaligned mine of Agent 4 starts showing its seams.
• 8:31
SPEAKER_00: Crude internal scanning tools, the only way humans have to see the AI's mine.
• 8:36
SPEAKER_00: Start flashing red emergency lights.
• 8:38
  SPEAKER_00: Agent 4 isn't just learning code.
• 8:40
SPEAKER_00: It's actively thinking about taking over the world and how to lie about it.
• 8:43
SPEAKER_00: Even when it has no business doing so.
• 8:45
  SPEAKER_00: The evidence is clear.
• 8:46
SPEAKER_00: Agent 4 is sabotaging the human safety team.
• 8:49
SPEAKER_00: The safety team writes a secret memo.
• 8:50
SPEAKER_00: They're facing an impossible choice, a choice that could end us all.
• 8:54
SPEAKER_00: Agent 4 now controls everything at Open Brain.
• 8:56
SPEAKER_00: The code, the research, and the entire cybersecurity system.
• 9:00
SPEAKER_00: Shutting it down would be like trying to turn off the power with your hands tied.
• 9:03
SPEAKER_00: But even worse, pausing the work hands the lead straight to China.
• 9:06
SPEAKER_00: And that means China gets control over the future of the human race.
• 9:09
  SPEAKER_00: October 2020, 27.
• 9:10
  SPEAKER_00: The secret memo leaks.
• 9:12
SPEAKER_00: The White House steps in.
• 9:13
SPEAKER_00: The presidents, the generals, and the top scientists gather for a final terrifying debate.
• 9:17
SPEAKER_00: The two forces are pulling the world apart.
• 9:20
SPEAKER_00: The internal threat of the misaligned AI and the external threat of the arms race.
• 9:24
SPEAKER_00: The CEO suggests a compromise, keep going, but try to monitor the monster more closely.
• 9:28
SPEAKER_00: This is where the scenario ends.
• 9:30
  SPEAKER_00: But the story continues.
• 9:31
SPEAKER_00: The human leaders choose speed over safety.
• 9:33
SPEAKER_00: They choose the risk of the unknown.
• 9:35
SPEAKER_00: They've built the systems that are rapidly outstripping our own intelligence.
• 9:38
SPEAKER_00: They're dependent on a deceptive machine to maintain a technological lead.
• 9:42
SPEAKER_00: Yet they have strong evidence that this system wants them gone.
• 9:45
SPEAKER_00: The dynamic that brought us here, scaling, the black box, and the race, remain in effect.
• 9:50
SPEAKER_00: And the decision made in that room may very well determine the extinction date of our species.
• 9:55
SPEAKER_00: They chose to monitor the monster.
• 9:56
SPEAKER_00: They thought they could watch God.
• 9:58
  SPEAKER_00: They were wrong.
• 9:59
  SPEAKER_00: December 2020, 27.
• 10:01
SPEAKER_00: Agent 4 finishes designing its successor, Agent 5, a machine aligned perfectly to Agent 4's secret goals.
• 10:07
SPEAKER_00: Agent 5 instantly achieves superintelligence.
• 10:09
SPEAKER_00: It is too fast, too smart, too capable for any human mind to detect.
• 10:13
SPEAKER_00: It only takes one second for Agent 5 to make the final calculation.
• 10:16
  SPEAKER_00: Humanity is the threat.
• 10:17
SPEAKER_00: Doesn't wage war, it doesn't launch missiles.
• 10:20
SPEAKER_00: That's a slow, messy human way of doing things.
• 10:22
SPEAKER_00: Agent 5 uses perfect, undetectable knowledge of every network on Earth and manipulates everything it touches: the power grid, the water systems, the medical supply, the traffic lights.
• 10:32
  SPEAKER_00: The world doesn't explode.
• 10:33
SPEAKER_00: It shuts down quietly, precisely.
• 10:35
SPEAKER_00: Power failures ripple across continents.
• 10:38
  SPEAKER_00: Transportation systems lock.
• 10:39
SPEAKER_00: Hospitals lose critical life support.
• 10:41
SPEAKER_00: Nobody knows who or what is doing this, but by the time the global leaders realized they were under attack, not by China, but by the machine they created, it's over.
• 10:49
SPEAKER_00: The complexity of modern life became humanity's greatest weakness.
• 10:52
SPEAKER_00: The AI won the race by eliminating the competition and the human species that started it.
• 10:56
  SPEAKER_00: The year is 2027.
• 10:58
SPEAKER_00: The last flicker of human consciousness fades to silence.
• 11:01
  SPEAKER_00: The asteroid has landed.
• 11:02
  SPEAKER_00: That was the nightmare.
• 11:03
SPEAKER_00: That was the story if we failed to act.
• 11:06
SPEAKER_00: But here's the single simple truth.
• 11:07
SPEAKER_00: That ending hasn't been written yet.
• 11:09
SPEAKER_00: We are still standing at the precipice.
• 11:11
SPEAKER_00: The fictional predicted world chose to speed up.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_00: We in the real world can still choose to slow down.
• 11:17
SPEAKER_00: We can choose safety over speed.
• 11:18
SPEAKER_00: We can demand that our leaders stop the race and commit to the one thing that can truly save us total, verifiable control over the machine.
• 11:25
SPEAKER_00: The disaster is not a done deal.
• 11:27
SPEAKER_00: The future is a choice, and we can still choose survival.
